Hello and welcome to Talk in Baseball, a special Sunday episode?
Two of the best rivalries in the sports are going right now.
And yes, everyone, the Yankees Stick.
Let's talk about it.
Welcome.
Welcome.
Esther Cortez.
Giladel?
I don't know.
Get it out of the seats.
Maybe a Homer.
Hello and welcome to talk in baseball.
Presented to you by Seat Geek.
I'm Jake Storelli.
That is Coach Trev.
Trevor.
Ploof, Bobby Sarachi on a Sunday.
We're going to have some live updates that won't be live for you guys.
We made a little adjustment.
Jolly Olive, his family has a annual charity golf tournament.
Maybe we'll put a, you can donate.
Maybe we'll put a link in the bio there.
Jolly was taunting me because Jolly sometimes likes to be a bully.
And he's like, there's no way you're coming, bro.
There's no, every year you're,
you say you're coming you're not coming so me and bobby are getting it done on sunday so we could
be there tomorrow uh so it'll be a fun day uh for a good cause uh but right now it's ball talk with treff
that's a little reverse psychology by jolly it's the oldest trick in the book and you got you
yeah okay um i'm happy for jolly i think i sponsored a hole on one of the t's so just be on the lookout for that
And yeah, man, look, we're not going to have all the updated standings because there are some games being played right now, something later in the day for your Yankees and my Red Sox.
So we'll get through it the best we can, but there has been some fun, some fun games throughout the league this weekend, Jake.
Yeah, I was in the stadium yesterday.
It was one of the more interesting vibes I felt at a Yankee game.
go see where they are at in the standings.
Because it's not great, Bob.
I'll have that later in the show.
Trev will have that later.
Let's get into it because it's Sunday.
We'll start off with the Inder League.
Let's do the ale.
Let's do the ale.
Oh, and would you look at this?
The Red Sox and the Yankees.
It's a series is not complete, so we'll just skip.
No, I actually, let's talk about it.
The Red Sox are embarrassing the Yankees,
pulling their pants down and embarrassing them in front of everyone.
They took game 1-6-3.
1-0-0-Bey-O-verse freed.
Connor Wong with pitcher hitting stats on the year.
He gets the big RBI.
Crochet shuts him down yesterday.
It's 12 to 1.
You know, I'm going to take a chance on this one.
Red Sox sweep tonight all four games.
The Roman Empire has begun there.
We're going to talk a lot about that.
Meanwhile, in Baltimore, the Houston
Astros took the first three games of the series, including Game 3 being one of the more dramatic back and forth affairs of the season.
You could say the same with game two.
Some new Baltimore young talent is showing up, Jeremiah Jackson.
I got to show you Dylan Beavers' home run swing, Trev.
You want to talk about short into the ball.
Hey, they lost three out of four games.
Hazu Sanchez, five hit day.
and Christian Walker against his drafty team.
Three straight games with a homer.
Okay.
Cardinals and Raids, they've split the first two.
They were in rain delay, so they're going to finish that off.
Maybe during the show, Jake Magnum, four-hit day.
Sure, Josh Lough with three of them.
Carson Williams, his first major league homer after the Cardinals hit the first game.
A fun one in the Central.
We don't often say that.
The Tiger take two out of three from the Kansas City.
Royal in those first two games,
Zach McKinstree, Spencer Torkelson,
with the deep home run to left center.
And then another really fun game today.
You want to talk about back and forth.
It was also Tom Selleck Day or Magnum P.I.
day at the stadium, a lot of Hawaiian shirts and mustaches.
Detroit with a dramatic comeback, but Kansas City too much.
Vinnie Pasquantino is out of his mind.
right now. We'll talk about that. Twins, White Sox, we may not talk about. Did the better team win,
White Sox take two out of three. Hey, everyone learned the name Colson Montgomery. My dude has some
real power. Ball jumps off his bat as he homers in the final two games of that series.
Royce Lewis with a good game. Does that mean anything? I don't know. Your A.L. Wildcard
teams outside looking in, the Rangers hosted the Guardian. And the Rangers,
get her done. We haven't said that a lot this year. They sweep the guard dogs. It starts with a
Jack Peterson, Boing, walk off RBI double, Jack Leiter with his best start as a young major
leaguer, and then Merrill Kelly seven inning chup piece to help bring out the broom sticks.
The A's and Seattle Mariners are finishing up right now, and I'm going to tell you what.
I think the Mariners are going to win the series, because as we record this, they're up 9-1,
and Cal Raleigh has just homered twice to have the most homers by a catcher ever in a season.
It's August 24th.
Brian Wu went six innings again because that's all he knows.
He's doing stuff that Cy Young did.
And hey, Trev, I've got a special one for you.
Not only are the Cubs are Best Western Road Warriors.
We're going even more specific.
Road Warrior brought you by Best Western.
It's King Tucker, Kyle Tucker.
We tried to tell you. Coach Trev was telling you. Yes, he was banged up. It's baseball. He's
Kyle Tucker. He's going to come out of it. 25-game homerless streak. He homers. Eighth career multi-homer
game first since May of 2024. King Tucker is back and the Cubbies are back as they've taken
the first two against LAA. That's what happened in the American League.
Snaps for you, Jakey boy. Nobody does it better. And I got the standings for the AO. I know you want them. I'm not even going to ask. Start out east. The Blue Jays, man. They are, are they inevitable? 76 and 55. They got a four and a half game lead on the Red Sox as we speak right now. Red Sox 71 and 59. The Yankees, 69 and 60. 62 and 67 for the rays, the Orioles, a nice clean 60 and 70. Yankees six games. Six
games back of the division. Boston, four and a half games back. Okay. The Central, I think,
is decided, Jake. The Tigers, 78 and 54, a nice series against the Royals who were 67 and 64, 10 and a half
games back of the Tigers. The Guardians fall in two and eight in the last 10. They're under 500 now,
Jake, 12 and a half games back of the division, 64 and 65 for them. My twins and white sucks,
not even going to throw your record out there because I'm disgusted by it. We'll move out
West, Jake, we're the Astros.
As of right now, 318 p.m. August 24th on a Sunday are 72 and 59, two and a half games
above the Marin, who's, I believe, are about to win right now.
So let's just call them 70 and 61, which would make them two games back of the Astros,
I think.
I don't know if my math is right.
The Rangers, dead even, 66 and 66 for them.
There's six and a half games back in the division.
We'll get to the wildcard shortly.
A's in athletics.
don't deserve my time right now.
Not on a Sunday, Pop.
Let's get to the Wild Card where the Red Sox have the number one seed.
They are above your yanks.
You have the two seed.
The Mariners right now holding on to that last one.
Two and a half games up on the Royals,
four games up on the Rangers.
And that's all that's getting mentioned because nobody else is over 500.
So if we started the playoffs today, Jake,
the Houston Astros will be hosting the Seattle Mariners
and the Boston Red Sox will be hosting.
the New York Yankees.
Those are the standings in the American League pop.
That'd be kind of fun.
Probably not for my yanks.
And I do think that's where today starts.
Amazing stuff per usual treasure.
Treasure?
A lot of people used to call me that growing up, yeah.
Wow, treasure.
Treasure ploof.
Shout out, Betty Duran.
Betty Duran called me that before anybody else did.
Great name for, I don't know, if you get another dog or something.
Anyways, Trev, we're doing this funky episode Sunday.
This is the rare time I haven't done talking Yanx yet,
which should be an electric episode tonight.
Like I mentioned, I was at the ballpark yesterday as the wheels just came completely off.
The Red Sox maybe get the sweep tonight.
Maybe they don't.
Either way, I think the sentiment feels pretty much the same,
as the Red Sox have now taken eight in a row from the Yankees this year.
Where do you want to start, coach?
I mean, it's tough for you because we're seeing all sorts of just nightmare scenario for Yankees fans.
A young budding star in Roman Anthony coming in to the house that Ruth built and saying,
I'll shack up here.
Seems nice.
Seems real nice.
He's got a great first game.
The Trevor Story Resurgence continues for Boston.
He takes game three, basically, for them.
You got a pitcher's duel in game two.
Bayo and Freed, which, you know, Bayo ends up winning the pitcher's duel because he goes one
extra inning and just shuts down the Yankees offense. I mean, yeah, it's been all Red Sox.
You mentioned on your Instagram live that you thought everyone felt comfortable in the stadium.
Things are going good for the Fenway faithful, man. And it couldn't be going worse between,
you know, the lack of offense, some more vulpey stuff, some lack of sedesical play.
I mean, it's just kind of all going bad for the Yankees.
but, I mean, if you're a Red Sox fan, like I am, I mean, wow.
You're a Red Sox fan, right?
Yeah, I don't know.
I guess my Yankees bit for anyone that doesn't know or you don't check out talking Yanks or whatever.
Yeah, this is kind of the straw that's breaking the camel's back.
Is that the phrase?
You know, the Yankees had a tough summer, man.
I mean, since June 1st, they have not been a good baseball team.
they came back this past week,
you know, got a little five-game win streak going into this.
And it was like, okay, they jump Boston in the standings.
If they handle their business against Boston at home,
which they've been good at home this year,
Judge Stanton is playing incredibly,
Judge trying to get healthy.
And then they just get embarrassed.
And they've been so bad in division
because the division teams know them.
And it goes back to last year's World Series
that Jimmy's running,
throughout the year was if you want to beat the Yankees, just bunt, like, just make them make
place because they won't. And then we saw it in the World Series. And now this year, they got
off to a good start and Cody Bellinger felt different. And some of the brand of baseball felt
different. But now it doesn't. They've got the most errors in the last 81 games. They have the most
in-field overthrows. Like, they're base running. The things that you can do to win games, the Yankees only do
one. They hit homers. If they don't do that, they're not a good team. And sometimes it's really
hard to hit homers. I think when you construct a team that you're basically saying, let's go slug.
And that's where I think a lot of fans get frustrated with teams that are manufactured like that,
is that you're going to go through phases where it just doesn't happen. You can't have a team
that slugs its way through the entire year. I mean, that's definitely a peak and a valley type
offense to have. And yeah, when you're not hitting them and then you're also giving away free bases,
which they did a lot, a lot of walks, especially in game one for the Yanks. And then you're also,
you know, committing errors. Like that's just, it can be very, it can be a very bad brand of
baseball, which you've seen this year from time to time. Trev, you like the Red Sox a lot coming
into the year. It got weird. We didn't think Devers was going to be gone. We heard all these
prospect names.
We didn't know, you know, you don't know who's who or when, when it's going to click.
Roman Anthony since day one, it feels like it clicked that I guess we're, you know,
should we be talking about the Red Sox as one of the favorites in the AL?
I mean, they are a very complete team.
Like they have a deep lineup.
They have a bench that they can, you know, kind of move around and Alex Corp can do
his things with the different compliments of players that he has.
Obviously, they can play great outfield defense, which makes a ton of sense and is awesome.
to see and yeah when we talk about this all the time jake like this this is was a weird year in
the regards to yeah devr should be the guy in the middle of that lineup just going nuts and then a
guy like roman anthony is a complimentary piece and that's when you have these big seasons uh but we get
rid of devours and you know story kind of makes up for that uh he's got the third 20 20 season by a short
stop it's him no more john valentine uh is that you say his name john valentine valentine valentine i think
Julio Lugo, some lists came out with him.
He's always one of the best names in the sport.
Yeah, so look, you're getting, you know,
they have like a full lineup.
And Carlos DeVia is what he's been able to do offensively this year.
They have a full lineup of guys that can produce
and have produced throughout the year.
So, yeah, I like the depth of the roster
and the well-roundedness of the roster.
Again, you can run the bases.
You can make plays defensively,
and these guys can hit homers too.
It's Alex Breggman is who we thought.
It's not awesome.
Like, so it's, they, everything is kind of gone to schedule for the Red Sox, except it hasn't at all.
Right.
You know what I mean?
It's weird.
Like it just did, I guess it did come to fruition what we thought just in a completely different way.
Yeah.
And I'm, you know, the other thing that's different for this Red Sox team and going back,
remember last year they got off to a great start and it was a lot of pitching.
Garrett Crochet is going toe for toe with scobs for this A.L.
Cy Young.
I think he passed him in innings.
and strikeouts putting together just an amazing season.
Brian Beyo with a massive shut start.
So like when Boston gets those efforts,
their lineup has kind of always been there.
And like you mentioned,
with story going and some of these young guys
and some of their platoon players, it's, they're tough.
How about all this chatman?
I think, you know, every time he gets signed somewhere,
everyone bats an eye and you and I are like,
every, you should sign this guy.
He's a freak.
He's one of the freaks to play this game.
And he's sitting, Jake, guess what his whip is?
Have you looked at it?
I know where his ERA's at.
I'm not sure where his whips at.
So 108 ERA.
It's a 0.7 on the dot whip.
He's arguably having his best season.
And the guy is kind of a Hall of Fameer,
depending how you do your Hall of Fame relievers.
Jake, 50 innings pitch just your 71 strikeouts.
Yeah, man.
And there's just, there's a lot of twist the knives
on this. Chapman. I think game one, every reliever that came in was a former Yankee. It was Chapman.
It was Whitlock. Justin Wilson had a little bit with them and Greg Weiser. Their catcher.
Former Yankee, like, I don't know, man. They, they smell blood in the water when they play the Yankees.
And so do all of the good teams. I think the bad teams are like, oh, shoot, let's not give up a bunch of homers.
and they do.
The good teams are like, hey, if we play solid baseball, that team loses.
And that's pathetic at its core.
Congrats.
Move on.
Congrats.
You played yourself.
Let's talk.
Whoa, voice correct.
Let's talk Houston Astros.
They take three out of four from the birds, the Orioles.
And, hey, again, the Orioles have been getting some impressive efforts from different players,
Trevor Rogers that we've been highlighting on a couple new young guys.
but I think the story here is Christian Walker.
He's on a bit of a Homer streak,
and he was brought in to be a big part of their solution.
Correa continues to have some great games for them.
They crush lefties.
So when we start eyeing playoff matchups,
let's say they drew the Yankees in that first round.
The Yankees would throw freed and rode on.
That would not go Bueno.
That the Astros, Jesus Sanchez,
I'm talking about him a little bit later.
So I guess what do you have?
I mean, really is, yeah, Christian Walker, Haysu Sanchez, like the offense got going.
They came into the series on a four-game losing streak.
They were outscored in that series 30 to 2.
And then, you know, they come in and just bang the ball around the park there in Baltimore.
So, I know a couple, you mentioned back and forth or at least closer games.
But the story is the Astros offense kind of getting hot.
And Christian Walker, if he can, if this is what we're going to see, a Homer, like, surge from him.
and an offensive surge and Sanchez gets it going as well.
I mean, this is exactly the time to do it for the Asho.
So this is a great series for them.
You know, you get the Orioles, Gunners going.
You know, we got the young kid.
What's his name?
Why am I already blanking on his name?
Basayo.
Besayo, I'm sorry, yeah.
You're all right.
He looks great.
He looks great for the Orioles.
Hey, there's going to be another Orioles hype train next year.
A very interesting offseason coming for them.
I saw Rob messing around with it.
You got that Dylan Beaver's home run?
I don't know if you've seen this,
it's one of the,
I don't know if you'd say short into the ball.
I don't know.
Something about this looks so funky.
Oh, yeah, that's an interesting swing, right?
What is that?
Almost look like he was fooled.
Is that how a swing always looks?
No, I mean, he's new to it.
This side angle's insane.
It almost looks like he got fooled
and then just the side of the swing last second.
Someone said it looked like he was being pushed by a ghost to swing.
Maybe he was shy and they're like, just get out there on the dance floor.
Come on, just one swing at it.
So yeah, we'll get the Orioles hype train going this off season.
I mean, he's crushing it.
Dylan Beaver is crushing it.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Jeremy Jackson.
Yeah, and you know, you can't predict baseball.
I think Dean Kramer had like killed.
Houston four and oh against them in his previous five starts a one four seven he gives up five
runs in the top of the first so that's you can't predict baseball coach trev um i think the other
juicy a l series really is detroit and kansas city uh kansas city trying to work themselves
back into the mix of the um wild car chase here and detroit who they were going through i've said
this the past couple episodes. They were going through their own swoon a little bit. Now they are
in back. They have full control of the division. They're back to playing that Detroit Tigers baseball that
even in the loss today, they're down a handful of runs. They mount a nice comeback that
they're just a good baseball team and we're getting different hinge stories. What was,
do you see that one? That was the sheriff. They pulled paddock after like 50, 62 pitches or
something and he was like that's he's he's such a special manager it's like okay i i didn't get that i got
more on the tigers coming up some other fun stuff from this series i mentioned it on the way through
viny pascuntono is playing out of his mind right now uh five straight games with a homer that
tied the kansas city record uh and today's game i was watching that one live he's just so locked
in he took a down and away flarity curveball out to a deep part of a deep part of a deep
ballpark.
And then the next at bat, they try to beat him up top with the heater.
He's in one of those special locked in modes where like his whole season,
there's a couple guys doing that right now, like Shea Langaliers that are so locked in.
They're changing their whole season's numbers.
And if Kansas City is going to get back into this, it's going to be Vinny and Witt
and help from Garcia and Salvi and the whole gang.
But he looks as good as any hitters kind of look this season.
Yeah, no, he's on.
And I hope the Royals continue to stay in here and just take this series and just kind of move on from it.
Because they do have a good ball club and they can be in the thick of it.
So I'm happy for them.
The Tigers, on the other hand, I got more coming for my award for them.
But I will say this.
If the Tigers hit, they are the scariest team in baseball.
Like, that's just how I feel about that.
And they're doing that.
Their offense has been going off as of late.
They're winning games because of it.
And I think, I mean, that's as simple as you can put it.
If this team scores runs, like even, it's almost like the Mariners.
Like if their offense goes and gives them four runs, gives them five runs,
like they are going to win that baseball game.
Yeah, and it's my new, it's my new corny line I'm rolling with.
But like the two best teams in each division right now, in my opinion,
are the Brewers and the Tigers.
They both pitch pretty well.
And they both just play really good baseball.
And they put guys in opportunities to succeed.
and they play defense.
The Tigers are the best team going first to third by a mile.
Like the graph that I forget if it Robert Dalt sent it before,
but it's like shocking where they are.
But that's part of what makes them a really good team and things like that.
All of it adds up.
There's a lot of ways to win baseball games.
And the Tigers and Brewers can arguably do the most different things to win.
I mean, look at game one,
the guys that had runs driven in.
McKinistry, Green, Baez, Andy Abagnas had a pinch hit,
Glaber Torres, Wenzel Perez.
Like, they were just getting it done from every single part of their lineup.
Having great at bats.
And you can, I was listening to the game today,
and Jason Benetti was talking about, like, using the alleys,
using the big part of the field as hitters,
and then just run all over the place.
So they're understanding, right now they have what I consider, like,
the best game plan for an offense is use the big part of the field.
Like, homers will come.
like if you're just trying to drive the ball in the gap homers well i know they're not mistakes
and that used to be a common phrase in the baseball world homers are mistakes like no no not you can you can
juice up for some every once in a while but if you consistently use that approach of using the big
field you're going to be more consistent uh than the other teams for sure trev we're both hitters
and i going through watching the baseball from this weekend you know sometimes you go through
and there's a lot of highlights like oh
Okay, Torkelson's Homer yesterday was a middle, middle pitch that he just cranked and that was it.
A lot of hitters won.
Like a lot of pitchers pitches got hit this weekend that kind of got me going.
I know you're talking about my guy Javier Sanoa coming up.
But there is just a lot of, a lot of hitters won the battle this week.
This Torkelson one, that's deposited.
Sheesh.
Yeah.
But like, again, I mentioned Vinnie versus Jack.
that that was crazy um coach what else what else do we need in the in the mighty american league cards
raise i'm not super locked into twins white socks explains itself i guess the texas rangers deserve a
little discussion as they are one of the like they're on their final legs and they got some
performances but man it's so crazy we're what'd you say 66 and 66 so we're we're a buck 22 games in
and they're just 500 on the nose.
I mean, the same thing they've been doing all year happened in this year.
It's just incredible pitching from them.
Eivaldi, Leiter, and Merrill Kelly all go for, excuse me, seven innings,
one earned run from the starters in the entire series.
They kind of push the guardians down, you know, far in the pecking order as far as that,
you know, the AO Wildcard, do we have a chance rankings?
Cool to see Jock do his thing.
Yeah, we need to see, you know,
guess it still is interesting to me because you get Adelaise Garcia back.
He hits a Homer in his first game, but Marcus Seaman goes on the IL.
Like you kind of need all these guys together and they all need to start raking.
And it can happen, Jake.
Like we're at the point now where we know these guys can pitch and they're for real.
And I mean, I guess that's the theme of the show today.
It's just hit a little bit and you're going to win games.
That is the recipe here for the Texas Rangers.
If they start going now and the offense picks it up in the last.
last 30 games, I think, is what we're at, right? It's like a sprint now. I think we're at the 30
game mark. A team can get hot for 30 games. The offense can go wild for 30 games. Like, go look up
and down teams months what they do offensively. If the Rangers could find it, man, like,
who was to say they can't sneak in the playoffs and just have a crazy, you know, underdog
story type season. They've done it before. Right. If they could put up like a 21 and 9 stretch,
Does that get them in the dances here in the ale?
I don't know.
And they still have to prove that.
And they haven't.
And they, I wouldn't be shocked if it's Friday's up.
What's that?
21 with 87 wins.
That'd be tight.
But again, they don't even, they don't fully deserve us talking about them like that.
They haven't done that, you know?
Let's, uh, I think the other two things to mention.
Dale Central, two individual performances.
It snaps for Kyle Tucker.
He gets the break, comes back, hits homers.
Looks like he, you know, he should look, essentially.
So very happy that he got those days.
Little mental reset looks good.
The Cubs obviously desperately need that.
And then Cal Raleigh, we mentioned at the top of the show,
but a single season home run record for a catcher,
and we're just getting started here.
Yeah, it's going to be awesome to see where he lands it
with the way he's playing and where the Yankees and Judge are playing,
he might be becoming the MVP favorite again.
And this is just another weird one.
Dalton was in his bag with this one.
The Mariners are the first MLB team in history to have five players hit their
hundredth career home run in the same season.
Cal Raleigh, Mitch Garver, Randy Roserana, Julio, and Josh Naylor.
So that's something and nothing at the same time.
Welcome to the club, guys.
And then, yeah, you mentioned Brian Wu, too.
25 straight starts, six innings pitch, two walks or fewer,
longer streak to begin a season since Cy Young had 30 in 1905.
Pretty good.
Since Cy Young.
Since Cy Young.
Let's hop over to some NL, huh, pal?
Let's do it.
We're starting out in beautiful Arizona.
The Diamondbacks hosted the Reds, and they took the first two games,
including the final one, a walk off in 11th.
Lordus Gurriel gets that one done.
They come back.
My guy behind the dish, Gabby Moreno's back for them, driving in some runs.
And Geraldo Perdomo continues to be one of the best players in baseball that I don't know if we need to treat him that way.
It looks like as we record this, the Reds are up six to one.
Emilio and his pagan ways are in the game right now.
I'm going to say they lock that up.
that up like the Pittsburgh Pirates did. Should we talk some pirates? Uh, they sweep the Rockies.
So maybe not. Um, but the pitching performances were pretty incredible. Skeens goes seven
shut piece. Bubba Chandler makes his debut a four innings safe where he gives up, uh, no earn
runs. Mike Burroughs with a very similar stat line and Braxton Ashcraft. Uh, yeah, I, I don't know,
pirates. You, you guys let me know if you want to talk more about that.
The Phillies take two out of three after dropping the first game with Riley Adams with the three RBI game.
They bounce back Ranger Suarez, another amazing start by him, seven-inning Shup viz.
Aaron Nola with his best fastball of the season.
Will that matter?
They're going to need it to matter because we did get the news on Zach Wheeler that he will be out for the remainder of this season.
Sadden.
Blue Jays take two out of three from the Marlins.
One of the games of the year, that middle game, goes 12 innings back and forth.
Boba Chet has four hits. Springer with three.
Javier Sanoa is everywhere.
Trev's going to talk about him.
And oh, yeah, Shane Bieber's back, six innings, nine Ks.
That might matter a lot.
Mets take two out of three from the Braves.
We had a homer, homer game.
Viantos and McNeil both double up in that middle game.
After the Mets offense went for three.
12 in the first game. Brave, come back to salvage the set.
Yeah, yeah.
The Giants take two out of three from Milwaukee.
Milwaukee's first time dropping back-to-back series in a long time,
and they blow it late as there going to be a closer situation.
McGill gets hit again.
The Willie Adamas returned, and he did it with some flair.
Willie with a couple home runs in that first game,
but William Contraris, it's.
the walk off for the crew to win it.
Logan Webb, Casey Schmidt, the rest of the way.
And then the series that everyone's talking about, Padres, Dodgers, the Padres take game
one. Snellverse, Darvish, does it get any better than that?
Nestor Cortez in game two with a little redemption, six innings of one hit ball against
the team he lost two in the World Series.
Maybe it was the defense behind him too, not on the ball he gave up to Freddie.
But the Dodgers, as we record this, they're up.
to two in the ninth, so I'm going to say they're going to win on getaway day. And that's what
happened in the national. Coach Trev, you know I need the standings. And I don't know if this is
even updated on your page yet. There is a tie atop the NL West. Oh, it is not updated on the
page. Congratulations to the Dodgers and I guess the Padres too. You guys are tied. That's nice.
Both in first place. Participation trophies. That's not the same thing, Jake, at all. Let's start off
with the Phillies. We're playing the twins in Iowa next year. That's the big news. That's the show, guys.
The ploof bowl is coming up. Anyways, the Phillies, 76 and 54, seven games up on the Mets who are 69 and 61.
Marlins, 61 and 69, Braves, nationals. No, I'm going to stop doing it. I'm not doing it, guys.
Not now when my computer's not working and you got Robot Treve going. You just can't have it.
The Brewers, 81 and 50, best record in all the land.
Five and a half games up on the Cubs who are 75 and 55.
The Reds 68 and 63.
Cardinals under 500, 64 and 66.
And the pirates, I'll do it because Paul Keynes is good.
You're 57 and 74.
The Padres, 74 and 57.
The Dodgers, 74 and 57.
That means they're tied, Jake, at the top of the division.
The Diamondback, 64 and 67.
Giants, Rockies, who are officially eliminated from everything.
Let's go to the wild card, Jake, because that's what the people need.
In the National League, right now, it's either, well, the Cubs have the number one spot, no matter what.
And then the Padres or the Dodgers, whoever's not in first place, will have the two spot,
and the Mets will have the three spots.
So if the playoffs started today, the Brewers would have a buy.
the Phillies would host the Mets
and then the Dodgers or the Padres
I believe
No the Cubs would have a buy too
Phillies would have a buy as well
I'm getting all confused here because the standings
aren't updated yet
Phillies would have a buy Dodgers would host the Mets
Dodgers or Podgers would host the Mets
and then the Cubs would host whoever is not in first place
in the NL West
Wow
not my best NL standings but we got through it pop
Tech Monster is fighting us.
You're still the best in the biz.
And so is Caldera Lab.
Fellas.
It's time to grow up.
Take care of your skin care game a little bit and do it with Caldera Lab.

That's where Caldera Lab comes in.
They've redefined men's skin care by combining advanced science with high-quality, non-toxic ingredients to create a simple, effective routine that,

Coach, let's start off with the other, you know, probably the best rivalry in the game
right now.
It's Padres, Dodgers.
They just wrapped up.
Dodgers salvaged the set.
Like I teased and then you brought home with those standings.
Straight up.
Zero games back.
The Padres and the Dodgers, they don't play each other again.
It's going to be a straight sprint to the fifth.
finish line. It's going to be fun to track the rest of the way. And we just had some really fun
baseball, especially the first two games. I know Dodger fans would disagree with that. But the pitching
performances, some of the defensive plays, you know, two of the best teams in the league, easy.
Yeah, and you can really think about it this way. And I guess this is people are going to call me
a Dodger Glazer. They do have the season series. So technically, I guess they're a half came up.
That's how it would work. If the season ended today, the Dodgers would be in first place in the
NOS and the Pogers would have to go play that wildcard game.
So with that being said, yeah, a beautiful series here.
I think game one, you know, Blake Snell, Udarvish, that absolutely can be a dominant
type pitching scenario and it was.
Snell looked great.
He gives up two runs over sevens pitch.
Udarvish.
The only blemish is the Alex Freeland Homer.
The Dodgers offense just really didn't show up the first two games of the series.
And I thought there was some interesting stuff in game two snaps for.
Nestor Cortez.
Tyler Glass now was just like all over the place.
At one point when I was watching the game,
it was almost 50, 50 strikes to balls,
the ratio there.
So not good for him.
They intentionally walk Manny.
Bogartz comes up and does a good job there
in a big situation for him.
And prior to that,
I believe it was in the fourth,
anyway, prior to that big hit that he got,
he was trying to lay a bun down earlier,
first and second, nobody out.
Like your middle of the lineup,
bad is trying to lay a bun down. So you can tell how important, like, these types of games
are that they're thinking that way. And, like, I guess also how much they're trusting in
Nestor and the bullpen. Like, hey, let's go get a lead here or, you know, and will let our guys
do the work, which is basically what they did in this series. I have one question for Dave
Roberts, which I know he's getting a ton right now. Conforto is really struggling for the Dodgers.
A lot of people are calling for him just to not play anymore. He ends up pinching.
hitting for Miguel Rojas.
I believe it was Jeremiah Estrada was in the game.
They announced Conforto and Schult just brings in Morahone and four pitches later he
strikes out like it was kind of a head scratching move to me.
Like you know that Schultz is going to make that move to get a lefty up.
Miggy already had a base hit in the game.
It's not like Conforto like he hasn't really shown any signs of life lately.
But that's kind of what he ended up doing.
Didn't work out for them.
And yeah, the Padres, they handle business.
I think this is a great series for the San Diego Padres, even though they lost today's game,
8 to 2.
I'm just a good bounce back from last weekend where, you know, the Padres had all the momentum in the world,
and it felt like the Dodgers took it back and you start doing big brother stuff.
I love it, man.
You know, if you had told us before the season that on August 24th, the Dodgers and Padres
were going to be tied for the best record in the NL West, we'd be.
I think we'd be saying like, holy smokes, did the Padres, did the Padres go nuts this year?
It's not exactly what happened.
Like the Dodgers kind of haven't been the full team that we thought they would be.
Kirby Yates is back and he closed out today's game.
So, you know, that Dodgers bullpen has been, has been rough throughout different parts of this season.
I love it, man.
And I, hmm, how do I want to phrase this?
I'm very interested to see how San Diego responds.
Like this San Diego team who has the most hate for the Dodgers
and all the offseason, you know, two games to one,
they were up on them and then they get shut out the rest of the way.
You've got an opportunity to win the division
and maybe get that first round buy instead of ending up in a three game wild card.
And on the other side, if you're the Dodgers,
the super team that was supposed to be,
and they end up in a three-game wildcard series,
they both could, like if the Cubs keep pace ahead of them.
And it's just scary that your season can come down to that.
Yeah, absolutely.
I don't know.
I think there are better days ahead for the Dodgers.
They're getting a lot of their complimentary pieces back.
Edmund, Kiki, they need Muncie back in the worst way.
The offense kind of works when he's there.
So I do see better days ahead for them.
Although, again, like, there's just some, there's been some moments, like,
for Bleski being in there in game two, I don't sure, like, why was he still in there?
You get the non-platoon matchup there with Bogarts.
I don't know.
A lot of question marks, but I'm looking forward to more good NOS baseball down the road.
Well, a little NLS, the team that we thought would be more involved in this season,
the San Francisco Giants, they have not been as much.
but they do.
They end up winning the series against the Brewers.
They come from behind against McGill, which, okay, we've,
I guess this was my thing.
The Brewers weren't going to win every game the rest of the way.
They weren't going to go 15 and 1 in every stretch the rest of the way.
It's no need for panic.
I just do think for all of these really good teams,
you know, we're going to start thinking postseason more and more.
and with all the armed talent the brewers have,
if something like McGill and the closer roll becomes louder,
then that becomes an interesting storyline.
And dude, seeing Milwaukee how much love they have for Willie Adomas,
I like that.
Yeah, big ovation for him,
and he hammers the first pitch, see it later.
That was great.
John Axford back.
I guess he got inducted into the Brewer's Wall of Fame or whatever that is.
So congratulations to him.
I got to face off against him plenty, and he was filthy.
No doubt about that.
Yeah, look, you're going to have some times where you blow games.
The back end of their bullpen has been obviously a strong part of the team for them.
I think the only weakness, I guess you could say, of the Brewers, is possibly like the middle inning relief guys.
I don't know how great they are, but if they need at one point to maybe switch off of McGill,
and I'm not like saying you need to do that because of this,
but there's plenty of options there at the back end of game.
So I'm not worried, you know, take the,
you could have won two or three,
a big comeback in the first game.
I think you just wash it here and move on to the next series
if you're the Brewers.
Man, that William Contreras walk off a,
just who he is as a ball player.
Again, I need to do better job of not putting Robbie on the spot on this.
Did you see the play he made it catcher?
Oh, yeah.
He had to come across his body.
And then he makes a whirly bird tag at home.
And then he just started juggling the baseball just to show off even more.
Man, like that dude.
Hey, I know we bring it up a lot.
Sneaky, one of the crazier trades of the past few years is them getting that cat for what?
That's for Ruiz.
It's crazy.
It's crazy.
It is crazy.
It's crazy.
let's see bopping around the rest of the NL.
Do you want to talk Toronto Miami now?
I know you have some stuff from this series.
Do we do it here?
Do we save it?
I think I mean, I'm talking about the Marlins a little bit later.
I think Toronto tip the cap to them.
Bieber comes.
That's a huge first start for him.
Or huge start for him, excuse me.
They need that in the worst way.
So he gets the job done.
Boba Chet continued to do what he does,
you know, picking up some slack in the offense.
George Springer.
doing it. I'm going to talk about a guy
from Miami who kept chipping
away at the Blue Jays, but the Blue Jays held
served there, man.
Did a really good job taking two out of three
because this Miami team, they can
be a sneaky spoiler team
this year. I mean, they hit with runners in scoring position.
They're always having good at bats.
They got a bunch of young guys who are kind of
playing with reckless abandon, and you
can kind of get snake bit by these guys, even though
they're a fish, if that makes any sense.
But the Blue Jays
did a good job of not letting that happen.
continuing to put the pressure on a game two and taking that game.
Yeah, you lose game three.
Yuri Perez was nasty.
So I don't know.
I think if you're a Blue Jus fan, you're stoked in this series.
And mustache Shane Bieber, watch out.
A, the mustache works.
Kind of has changed his whole personality for me.
Okay.
I like it.
And, you know, it was one of the buzzwords before the season.
I think Shane Bieber's throwing a kick change now.
which, okay, I don't know how much more sense.
Look at him with the mustache, Trev.
This isn't even like, this isn't like, oh, weird, goofy, Jake.
Like, like, that, that guy looks, that guy looks different.
He's entering his second half of his career, Jake.
He's growing up a little bit.
Like, that guy looks like Joe Ryan's cooler, older brother,
which was not Bieber's vibe before.
I don't know about that.
I know that's tricky for you for how much you love Joe Ryan.
I'm just trying to say it a complimentary to Beaver.
Look at the chain, the mustache, the Toronto Blue.
Is that a Puka necklace?
I don't think that's a Puka necklace.
I can't really see.
I think Puka necklaces are back in, Jake.
Alex Gold.
Okay.
He's got the money for that gold necklace.
And he might be getting himself a lot of money coming up if he pitches like this down the stretch.
Trev, the rest of the NLLs.
gets a little hodgepodgey for me.
Like, Reds in Arizona should matter a little more to me,
but the D-backs take that series.
The Mets are obviously one of the conversation points
of this season going forward.
The Pirates were kind of the most impressive.
It is against the Rockies,
but you just start drooling over all that arm talent again.
So I'll, if there's somewhere you want to take it before awards,
I'll let you run there.
I want, you know, everyone's seeing this right now if you're on YouTube,
I am battling huge tech.
monster. So I'm in to keep the show rolling because I don't know when this computer is going to
crap out on me.
Trev, for the behind the scenes, people like when we peel back the curtain, Trev is on two
laptops. We've had a couple overheatings that we don't know what to do. We don't know what to do.
I have no idea what's going on. It's never happened to me before. And now my, my, both my
laptops are just like on fire. Like lava, Mount Doom.
type stuff. And yeah, we're shrugged them through this a little bit, but we're grinders now.
We're going to get it. We're going to get it done. So I appreciate everyone that's sticking with us here on a difficult, a difficult that for us.
Let's, with that, let's, let's move it to standout performances.
It's time for stand out for performances.

Where are you going, Coach Trev?
I could have went the entire Mets offense,
who's been on fire lately.
Bo Bichette's a good pick.
I forgot to mention he threw a runner out of the plate
that would have changed the complexion of that game completely.
So shout out Bo on the hit that he threw the guy out.
It was our guy, Javier Sanoa.
I'm going to him on Friday.
He goes three for five,
not one but two game tying hits and just kind of like a short king i believe he's listed at
five eight jake so you got to love that can't weigh more than a buck 50 got a quick lightning
swing kind of gets the barrel of the ball the barrel of the bat to every single ball in this series
went six for 12 uh i don't know like there's something about watching these marlins it gets to be fired
up like i said a lot of guys are trying to establish themselves young guys you know how that's
going to be for them for a couple years.
But I like, I like me some Javier Sanoa.
As soon as I saw him, I was like, that's a guy that Jake is going to gravitate towards.
He's an all Jake team.
Yeah, it was cool hearing their broadcast talk about him.
Just, you know, when a guy's hot, you're hot and you're, you're the king.
And that's what Javier Sanoa is right now with those two game tying hits in that 12-inning.
Blue Jays Marlins classic.
You don't hear that enough.
And yeah, we can put them on the all-story all the team.
This was a big weekend for, at least for me,
the, am I going to be hyped about them next year?
And Marlins have their own case with Sandy bouncing back
and just a lot of young players on the field.
Jacob Marcy continues to kill it.
The pirates, like I mentioned,
the pirates call up another freak pitcher that it's like,
okay, when you'd like to think it's sometime the light bulb is going to go on there.
I don't know when.
And then what was, there was another team I was trying to,
to talk myself into for next year.
I'll,
I'll figure it out along the way.
And then I was kind of like, Jake, what do you?
Oh, the White Sox.
The White Sox?
You have a little Colson Montgomery going?
Look at the names on the White Sox of who are playing.
Kyle Teal, Colson Montgomery,
Caro, like, they're Chase Midroth.
They're playing a lot of young, talented guys that, you know,
there's always a team that the light bulb goes off.
We can talk about them in the off season.
Jake, real quick, I'm sorry.
He's listed at 5-7-150 on the baseball reference.
Pump it into my name.
Dan Canobio would have a field day with him.
Remember Dan Canobio?
I do.
I DMed him the other day.
He's posting a lot of thirst traps.
He's getting a lot of-
I barely remember Dan Canobio.
Trev, my standout.
I'm going with Hazo Sanchez,
a guy we've talked about a lot since the trade deadline
And from those fish, he goes over to the Astros.
We kind of throw our arms up and like, this is a talented guy.
Don't be surprised if Houston knows something we didn't.
It wasn't going as planned.
0 for 29 skid coming into this series against Baltimore.
And then he comes up.
He gets a first inning single.
Sure.
Then he gets four more hits.
The first player in Major League Baseball history to snap a 10 game.
hit list streak with a five hit game. So, you know, baseball, we can have some fun with numbers and
you see something different at the ballpark every day. Jesus Sanchez going from 0 for 29 to a five hit
day. Big for Houston. Man, his swing is, I want to say long in a complimentary way, a deep follow-through.
that yeah, if his hot streak is coming, again,
as we start looking at the powers in the American League
and see where the Astros land,
if he's an everyday top of the line of bat for them,
that's going to change their outlook.
Yeah, he goes five for five in the first game.
He sits the second game but gets a pinch hit appearance.
And then today we're recording this on Sunday, people,
two for five with a homer and a double.
So maybe he's found the stroke.
And we talked about that.
We're talking about the Houston offense.
Walker, Hasey Sanchez, those guys get going. I mean, that's how they're going to be able to
hold on to that division lead and keep the Mariners at bay. So, uh, definitely a welcome sign
for Astros fans. Treve, there's a lot of guys. Um, you know, I'm, I'm looking at
I'm looking at Reese McGuire with five RBI day. I'm King Tuck like we already talked about. Out of
the park. Mark, I know Kana has that, but I think Vientos hits more homers. We did too many
pitchers last episode. I want to know who is Enfuego.
Dirt nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
We're going to do In Fuego just a little differently this time around because we don't have
the complete stats for the series. So I'm going to go for the week here and starting off
with Angels out for Joe Adele. He was my doppelganger at the beginning of the show. 10 for
22 on the week for homers, seven runs driven in. He's got 13 homers, Jake.
on the first pitch of the best season.
That's tied for the most in majorly baseball.
My dad was so big on that growing up.
Like, go after the first pitch.
Like, why wouldn't you?
They're trying to throw a strike.
It worked a lot when I was young.
And then Joe Mauer, like, never swung at the first pitch.
I don't know.
Let's move on.
Swaggy V, your guy.
We talked about him and his kind of whole persona.
Like, what does it mean now?
He went nine for 24 on the week.
Two doubles.
Four homers, found the power stroke.
He had three homers in his first 55 games.
games, or that was through May 1st through August 16th, but three homers in six games this week.
He's doing it.
Good for you, Swaggy, B.
Laura Scurrell Jr.
Is he going to be one of those guys that plays till he's 45, like his brother?
Kind of love that for him.
He goes eight for 24, three homers, 11 runs driven in.
Oh, my gosh.
28 in August, Jake, it's the most in all of baseball.
You mentioned Royce Lewis flying by seven for 22, three homers, seven runs driven in.
He's still feeling himself the twins are in.
a bad, bad spot.
For the two weeks,
there's the list you want to be on.
Jake Breton Doyle,
I believe got your award last week,
or at least their standout.
Somebody did it.
No, that was Dalton on baseball today.
Shut up, Trev.
He was 17 for 43 in these two weeks.
Five homers,
14 runs driven in.
He had some family stuff going on
at the beginning of the season.
They kind of put him in a bad spot.
He's coming out of that now.
Happy for Brent and Doyle.
Wyatt Langford for the Texas Rangers,
14 for 42,
four homer, seven runs driven in.
He's got,
10 homers on inside fastballs this season.
That's the most in baseball.
Don't throw them there.
Go it away.
That's the scouting report.
How about Bobby Wood Jr.?
Love to see him on this list.
20 for 46.
Three doubles, two homers, six runs driven in.
Scored 13 times.
He's riding an AL best 12-game hit streak.
He has an OPS of 735 with two strikes this season.
That's the best in all of baseball.
Love that.
Brett Beatty, 15 for 41, four homer, six runs driven in.
Raldo Perdomo.
seen you and him in the same room together.
17 for 49, a double, a triple, three homers,
nine runs driven in, coming to the defense of Cattel Marte.
He does it all people.
84 runs driven in, they're the most by a D-Back shortstop in franchise history.
His August is nuts.
359, 479, 551.
The dude's three, four, five in it.
You'll love to see it.
That's who's in fuego, Jake.
Perdoma, where his final season numbers are going to land.
he's at five war right now.
The on-base percentage on the season's at 392.
3-92.
Special ball player.
Yeah, I think friendliness-wise, me and him grade out similar.
Everything else, he's so much better then.
Oh, yeah, I think so, too.
I think you're right.
I'll take what I can get.
Hey, let's slow down the whole episode with batters who are struggling.
Amen.
The whole goal, kind of like Hazu Sanchez.
Get these guys out of here.
A lot of young bucks.
Blake Perkins, Pat Murphy's favorite person in the world.
Three for 28.
No extra base hit since August 6th.
Brandon Marsh in a 5 for 33 right now.
His 194 on base over the last two weeks.
Second lowest in the national league.
Ye.
Elliot Ramos for the Giants, 7 for 49.
He's hitless in 25 at bats with two strikes.
That's a bad feeling, and that's the worst of the last two weeks in the NL.
Addison, how's your barger?
Part of the Toronto breakout, he's having a rough go right now.
Six for 42, a 143 batting average, even worse with runners on base.
And then Drake Baldwin, who's in a 5 for 30.
and right now he's got a weird case of he's been awesome at home a 913 OPS at home a 661 on the road so I don't know if it's home cooking I don't know if it's something else but those are the guys who are struggling let's get them over to Enfuego for next episode the other just tough part of the episode folks it's the IL and we had a bunch oh guys go on the IL Evan Carter for Texas right
wrist out for season. Man, that guy's story is an interesting one.
Ryan Brazier in that cubby's pen. He's got a left groin. Might see him mid-September.
Joey Ortiz left hamstring a couple weeks for Mila-Wa-K. Bennett-Susa, a piece in that Houston
bullpen. That's lining up interesting with the playoffs. Jackson Merrill, man, tough year for the
kid, left ankle sprain. He's going to be out a couple weeks. Marcus Simeon, with a
left foot contusion, TBD.
And man, that guy...
That guy plays every day normally.
That's going to be weird to not see him on the field.
Frankie Montas, out for the season, UCL.
Tough break.
Jordan Westberg for Baltimore.
There's a couple more.
This is a Aaron Bummer.
This whole segment is.
But the good news is when there's guys going,
on the aisle. There's guys coming off of the aisle. We told you about Shane Bieber.
Treves Lance McCullors Jr. Snap dragging it. I told you about Gabby Moreno for Arizona.
Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates for the Dodgers. That's important. Adoles Garcia is back in homering down
the line. Matt Chapman for San Francisco. They've missed him. Young Jacob Wilson for the A's,
Tyler Stevenson.
And then Victor Robles is back for Seattle.
He is appealing his 10-game suspension for throwing his bat at a pitcher in the minor leagues.
If you haven't seen that breakdown from the John Bino, it's an all-timer.
Go look at that one.
That's who's back.
Let's go and start everyone's week the right way.
Awards are brought to you by Seekek.
Go see your team.
I had a weird moment.
Seat Geek went to the Yankees game yesterday and I was like, wow, this is probably going to be my last, like, summer ball game I go to.
So go get it in, people.
Even if your team's having a bad time right now, in a couple of months, you're going to be wishing it was 7 p.m.
And they were on the TV.
So go to Seat Geek, the number one rated ticketing app.
They've got everything, everything that has a seat.
So maybe if you don't want to see your team, go to a concert, go to a festival.
Some other sports are returning soon, wink, wink, wink.
And save yourself 10%.

Use code talking 2025 at Seatkeek.
What's your award, Trep?
I got kind of a simple award today.
I just kind of came through.
There was a special moment that happened this weekend.
I'd inspired it.
My award is called timing is everything.
How about that?
Okay.
It is everything in life, people.
Let me just tell you that.
I got a couple good examples.
Anthony Swarzak, my roommate, kind of doesn't have great years,
ends up going to Korea playing a little bit,
decides he wants to come back to the States and play,
has a good year and just hits, like, the reliever market perfectly,
where relievers all of a sudden we're just getting super valued.
And he had some numbers that were great.
So he ends up getting this contract.
and like just timed it perfectly.
Over in Korea comes back,
times it perfectly.
And then another kind of time aspect to my award is
not a big watch guy.
You know,
like they all kind of do the exact same thing.
It's really just,
it's a show piece.
And people will say they can be an investment.
I'm really,
I don't have like no nice watches.
So I don't really,
I'm not really into it.
I always just say like,
you know,
you don't really need a watch.
That's just to show off.
And that's okay if you want to do that.
that's fine. All you have to do is be able to tell time. And I'll tell you the one person
who really timed it perfectly in the baseball world. My good friend Jason Benetti. Now, if you
don't know who he is, he's the play-by-play guy for the Detroit Tigers. And previously,
he was with the White Sox from 2016 to 2023. And if you know anything about the White Sox
like in that time period, like it just, there was a couple teams that should have been
really good and they just like all the sudden were one of the worst organizations in all of the
sport and just it was dreadful and it's still like it's you know you're talking about maybe you're
excited for them next year but just it hasn't been like a good atmosphere there um jason and eddie
leaves after the 2023 season to go to detroit there were some rumblings of like him in the front
office not getting along he kind of has more of a style that i uh personally like in a broadcaster
where it's not strictly just the game.
Like, he can go off and it's entertaining.
He's fun.
Him and Andy Dirk's do a really good job.
Anyways, he goes over in 2024.
The Tigers out of nowhere are one of the best stories in all of baseball,
especially in the second half.
So he gets to leave the White Sox organization
and go to the Tigers,
who now have the best record in the AL this year.
Time that up personally.
He's even now calling preseason games for the Detroit Lions.
who are like one of the best teams in all the football.
And so he finds himself perfectly timed with the city of Detroit.
And I just think it's really cool.
The reason I brought that up was on Saturday,
he called the Lions preseason game, rushed over right to Comerica Park,
and called the Tigers game as well.
That's something that Chris Rose would do.
That's like for like the dogs of the industry.
And Jason Benetti is one of those guys.
He gave me a ride back to the hotel.
from the game when we're in Detroit,
we beat all the traffic because he knows
all the little ways to go.
Just an absolute stud.
And I was just thinking about it in my head,
like, what timing this guy had to leave Chicago
and go to Detroit?
We hadn't been on a great run over the last decade or so,
but now they firmly are entrenched in both baseball and the NFL.
So great timing by him.
And just a shout out in general,
because I think he's one of the best in the game.
He's a guy that baseball is lucky to have.
I think he understands where announcing is currently at between A, just being a good announcer.
B, it's baseball.
You got three hours.
You can have some other conversations along the way.
They had Tom Selleck in the booth today, and it was a blast.
They talk some ball.
They talk some not ball.
And it's these guys end up in your living room every night for years that you're right, man.
I mean, that's a crazy change, dude, that like he's now going to become this Detroit kind of figure.
He already is.
And deservedly so for him and the city.
Because he's he's one of the good guys.
That's a good one.
And there's some Tom Selleck Magnum P.I. Day stuff that was going on in Detroit today.
You know, explain that to the average European mind.
You can't.
You just can't do it.
good award trev i'm i'm going to audible my award just a little bit um to the arms race award
uh there was a there's a lot of pitchers i want to talk about originally this award was going
to go to nestor nestor cortez uh you know a guy traded now twice this year traded from the yankees
for Devin Williams, ends up in San Diego.
And there was a little bit where this story of Nestor Cortez was like,
oh, this is a guy that's been, you know, waived from different teams,
and he throws funky.
And hey, man, I watched that guy be a stud for back-to-back seasons for the Yankees,
a 2-9 ERA and then a 244-ERA.
He's dealt with some injuries.
He's dealt with some new environments.
He's in San Diego and he's getting the pill.
and he just had a big boy start, redemption start against the Dodgers,
like I mentioned earlier in the episode.
But dude, as I keep looking at these names, we talk Shane Bieber.
Like, what's that going to mean for the postseason that Toronto's in?
And when that guy is right, he can be one of the best pitchers in baseball.
You mentioned the Brian Wu stat, man.
First time since Cy Young, the dude that the best pitcher award is named after?
like that's what he's doing and people mention him as Seattle's like fourth starting pitcher
Kate Horton I think he threw 24 straight strikes
six innings clean for him he has been the best pitcher in baseball since he also break
what does that mean for the Chicago Cubbies and even I you know we'll see if it ends up
mattering but I guess how about I'll loop in a couple of the young bucks
Brian Bayo with his seven shut out that guy's probably
we're going to get a postseason start this year, and he has the potential to be special.
And Jack Leiter, his seven innings, no walks, 10Ks coming downhill, aggressive at you, that,
yeah, in this home stretch, like you said, about 30 games to go, a month of ball, a couple off days.
It's going to be fun to see who in the arms race can bring their team to battle.
It's dramatic.
I love it.
You know what? Sometimes pitchers need credit to, and especially at this point of the season.
My favorite thing is this late starting pitchers going deep into games.
It's almost like they're on their last leg, like they're giving you everything they got in the stretch run.
This is where you know you need to kind of try to save your bullpen as much as possible.
You got through the season using them or maybe it's the other way around.
But starting pitchers going deep into games in September.
and then obviously into October, which doesn't really happen anymore.
Like you got to be throwing some kind of special ball to go deep into postseason games.
I'm into it.
And, hey, I guess Padres fans, man, what a job Preller did with this roster?
How do they have a full rotation?
How do they have a full lineup?
It's impressive on paper that NL West Race is going to be so fun the rest of the way.
And so is everything else.
My yanks have gone.
It started.
If you want to see some angry Yankee fans, go tune in to talking Yanks in a little bit.
And again, thank you, everyone.
We really wrestled some technology today.
Coach Trev was, I thought a laptop was going to catch on fire.
So thank you guys for your patience today.
I appreciate it.
Only out here for four hours trying to record this episode.
Want to do talking yanks?
No, Jake sucks.
Everything sucks right now.
Let's go.
It's dog days.
It's official.
We're all feeling.
We're all feeling.
