Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. It's trade deadline season. Did your team do enough? Scooter accidents. We're on the road, people. Let's talk ball. Robbie Ray. Cody Clemens. Hello and welcome to talking baseball presented by Fanatics Markets. I'm Jake Storeeally. That's Trevor Flew for Rob's Cheraco producing. Dalton Feeley. Putting the sheet together somewhere. We're looking for everyone's remote. I am in the beautiful. North. If the internet fights me, that's on the Blue Jays, right? The bell, bell internet or
Starting point is 00:00:47 communications, whatever they got going on. Don't they own everything? Trevor Plouffe is live from Seattle. Wow, double great north episode. And I will apologize to the people, setting up my microphone before the show and the USBC connector for those who are tech nerds. it just went away that I literally can't plug it in. So my audio is going to be a little jacked up. So it's trade deadline. We don't know if we're selling or buying still. How are you doing, Coach?
Starting point is 00:01:21 I know what the twins are doing. We buy in, babe. We just bought last night. I love that. I'm doing great. Yeah, you sound terrible, but we'll get through this pie. You're good, man. As long as the info is pertinent and entertaining.
Starting point is 00:01:34 That's all the people want. And I think you got that in space. I have the standings ready to go. I think we just get into it. Yeah, I think we run hard. I think we're going to run hard and fast today, people. Not only are we both road dogging it as we get ready for the trade deadline, but everyone's head is in the deadline.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Robbie Ray pitches and it's literally hugs in the dugout, see you later, pal. Like, we're at that time of year. And yeah, I wish I was video recording me 20 minutes ago. There was two screws in. this mic i undid him with a knife because i'm at an air b and just like i'm gonna fix this i don't fucking know anything no you don't you don't know anything we and there will be some odyssey talk i did see the odyssey so we'll mix that in at some point oh also stay tuned for my take on dominic canzon's wife what did you uh letter grade school letter grade what would you give the odyssey
Starting point is 00:02:32 Ooh. I'm going B plus, which I think that's a hot take. I will also go in that B plus A minus range. I thought the movie itself was really, really good. Some of like the accents or non-accents got me. I was like, am I back in ancient times or am I on the streets of New York right now? What are we doing? I did. I saw some commentary on that. For me, it is what it is. Like, we're making a movie. I don't like movies that kind of repeat the same sequence multiple times. Like, I had the same struggle with Mad Max Fury Road. Like, okay, we're going to an island.
Starting point is 00:03:15 We're going to get fucked up. We got to sprint off the island. Like, can we do that four straight? Spoilers, let's talk baseball. That's the story, Jake. What do you mean? It's Friday. We're in the National League, Coach Trev.
Starting point is 00:03:30 And the Miami Marlins, they were buying. Then they're selling. and now we're buying again because we just swept the Phillies. How about do we talk enough how Mr. Marlin, Jeff Conine's son, plays on the Marlins, and he got the walk-off RBI in that first game? Sandy, in a one-nothing game, is he going to stay a Marlin? It's so deadline season, it hurts.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Put some respect on Ryan Gusto's name, although he got rocked. But the fish sweep, they take down the Phillies. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Are we buying? Are we selling, Pop? I think we're buying because we took two out of three from Pittsburgh. We're one of the hottest teams in the National League. And if you've ever seen a Diamondbacks game, check out game two of this series. They're up six nothing in the seventh. They give up six. We're going to extras. They win it in the 12th, obviously, because James McCann went four for six. What? They take two out of three. The Dodgers take two out of three from the Seattle Mariners.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Mariners win that first game. Are they buying her selling? I think they have to buy. They win that first game. Muno's shaky in the ninth, but gets it done. And then it's Dodgers the rest of the way. Is this Emerson Hancock last game as a mariner? I don't think of.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Did you know Edwin Diaz is back? Fire up the trumpets in L.A. The Cubbies, they take three out of four from the Cardinals, and it comes down to the final two games in extra innings. So many extra inning games. Cardinals Ivan Herrera had the walk-off two-run double to win game three. Otherwise, it's Cubbies the rest of the way. Nico Horner and Alex Bregman.
Starting point is 00:05:11 How about some clutch hitting like that? They take three out of four. The guard dogs take two out of three from Cleveland, the Battle of Ohio, Chris Rose, testosterone through the roof. Guard dogs, they take the bread games. One of these games got rained out. Oh, we moved it to the next day. Excuse me.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Guardians win. If they score six runs, win the Reds, the game they did win in the doubleheader day. They shut them out. Nice bullpen effort. Tell me about Jose Franco, Trev. Ohio Cup, no chance. Mets take two out of three from the Braves. They win the first two games, Francisco Lindoror. That's fun to say. Along with AJ Ewing in that second game with a big one, how about the kids? Carson Benj with the go-ahead RBI double. But Chris Sale writes the ship on that final game as the Braves salvaged the set. Weaver, where will he be? The Giants take two out of three from the brewers. Excuse me? Baking
Starting point is 00:06:08 powder? They win the bread games, including a 16-run effort. Louisa Rise with four of 17 hits. Daniel Susak, two homers, the first of his career, so let's do it again. He homered again. That didn't happen yet, though. Okay, Giants steal a series. And then the Padres and the Rockies, they played two. The Padres won them both, though. Fernando! Five for five and Merrill Renhifo and Sheets in that final game. Padres, doing what they have to do to not sell will they? Let's talk about it. Let's get to the standings.
Starting point is 00:06:44 What a go, Pop. You ever heard of Frank Coradon pitchers slash first baseman in the early 1900s? Check them out. Died at 60. I have the standings, though, if you want those. Is he one of your baseball reference front page guys today? Yeah, he is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Eyes are like white, like a white walker. Very strange. Let's start out in the National League East coach, where the Phillies. Kind of down bad right now, aren't they? Atlanta, 64 and 45, they got a seven-game lead over those Phils who are 57 and 52 after getting swept by the Marlins. They've been playing awful as of late. Bryce Harper's got some words.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Miami, the aforementioned team is 55 and 55, tied with Washington. who's also 55 and 55. That makes sense if they're tied. They had the same record. The New York Mets, 47 and 63 for them. Jolly Olive, Jolly Olive, Jolly Olive. In the central, a five and a half game lead for the Brewer, 67 and 41, the Chicago Cubs, 62 and 47 there.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Another team that's straight up 500 at 55 and 55 is the Pirates. I got to imagine if the Pirates went out and got some freaking bullpen out. imagine 54 and 55 for the Cardinals 51 and 57 for the Reds then out west best record in baseball is the Dodgers 69 and 40 for them they got a 12 game lead over the dimebacks were 57 and 52 Padres one game over five at 55 and 54 Giants down bad fire trucks in all 47 and 62 and the Rockies are 42 and 67 in the wild card Jake. It would be the Chicago Cubs with the first wild car. Then a tie between the second and third with Arizona and Philadelphia, the San Diego Padres, two games back. The Marlins, two and a half.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Pittsburgh, two and a half, Washington, two and a half, St. Louis, three. And that's where all and those are the standings in the National League. Treb, I want to give you credit, because you were kind of the first to figure out that the National League turned into the mild card. Like, what are we doing? The Padres, or excuse me, well, Padres also involved. The Phillies, the last team currently in the wild card, they're two and eight in their last ten. The Pirates, three and seven in their last ten.
Starting point is 00:09:17 The Marlins three and seven in their last ten. Like, this was kind of, I kept saying it was the best case scenario for a wild card. this was the model example. It's starting to get shady. And there's two months left. We have the deadline left. These teams are going to change their debt. How do we have two months left?
Starting point is 00:09:35 What? The dog days are coming up. Everyone gets so excited about the deadline. It's like, oh, shit, we have two more months. The dog days get dogy real quick. Same with this show, doggy style. But yeah, the NL Mile card, I don't know, doesn't have me excited right now, coach. I think it should, though.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Who cares if it's what their team's records are? Like if they're competing in their closest, isn't that what we want? Yeah, fair. Because if they, I mean, they were talking about the sixth and seventh and eighth best teams in the division. They kind of should be right there. Don't do that. If they had better records, then that would mean like four teams would have just abysmal records in each division. So like, I'm fine with this.
Starting point is 00:10:17 This is great. I think this year is what the extra wild card was meant for. Like all these teams still in it, all these fan bases still engaged, and we got it right now. This episode is sponsored by Shopify. Our merch store has grown so much from day one. And by the way, license MLB merch. You got to check out our new glitch collection. And if you've ever thought about building something of your own, start your free trial at Shopify.com. Trev, we teed this up a little bit and we peel back the curtain whenever we can. I think everyone's being honest, like everyone cares about the deadline right now, that
Starting point is 00:11:43 we're going to be pretty high and tight with these series. Again, I think it's the spirit of them. So like this Marlins-Filly series, I mean, the Phillies stuff is getting loud now. They're three and nine coming out of the All-Star break. They blew a six-run lead, and everyone's talking, Bryce is talking, Donnie baseball's talking, that for them, the conversation is very clear. Like, if they don't get help at this deadline, my goodness, watch out in Philly. And now the Marlins have everyone back in a pretzel again. Yeah, I mean, they've kind of gone back and forth, and they still probably have a decision here, what they want to do with, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:20 especially some of the pitchers, namely Sandy, who had an excellent start in the second game here. The Phillies, the problem has been the offense. You know, the Schwerver has been struggling, Harper's been struggling. In this series, I mean, they end up scoring enough runs. But I think after that first game, when you have a lead, you're facing a team with a 12-game losing streak, and then you have one of the best closers in the game, and he can't get it done. I got more on this game in particular coming later. but for the Marlins, I mean, they could have rolled over in that first game, and they didn't.
Starting point is 00:12:54 So they get that win, they get the momentum, they get Sandy the next day. They win one nothing. And then they finally get the sweep, you know, trailing six to nothing, one hit through five, and they come back. So, I mean, this is a huge series for the Marlins. If it goes the other way and they get swept, we're talking a fully different, you know, kind of take on the Marlin season right now. So almost a season saving type series for them. Yeah, and I guess maybe that should be what gets highlighted, because I don't know what the Marlins are going to do,
Starting point is 00:13:28 but I know Sandy was great. I know I mentioned Griffin-Konine on the way through. He's got the game-winning RBI in the first game. And then he gets it in the last game too. And he makes a sliding catch in the second game. The Jacob Marcy catch in the second game. I think expected batting average of 920, which, okay, like what's that actually mean? but I know Lamborghini Marcy.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Like he's, when the Miami boys are bopping, it's so much fun. And if they just didn't lose 12 in a row, we're having a totally different convoy. We are, we are. But they're right in it. They're right in. I just read the standings, Jake. They're two and a half games out of the wild card. Look at my pizan, Jacob Marcy, into that.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Is that a good wall? Because it's got protective stuff kind of before. No, there's no padding. No, it's just, I think right in front of that. Oh, that is a padded wall. Never mind. Okay. Yeah, it's, it's got like chain links, so it has some give, but.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Is that a video board wall or is that a padded wall? I think there's video behind. I'm not. Oh, yeah, no, I'm out on that then. Okay. Okay. Philly's, it's going to be a fun Monday. We're going to be live, people.
Starting point is 00:14:45 John's going to be around. Chris Rose hopping in. if any of our creators' teams, if Shelfys, Phillies, Phillies, if Jolly's, Metropolitan, Swilly's A's, Trev's, Trev, you're going to be live, pal. We'll give you one bath. I'll be there.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Debacks, Pirates, Trev, you and I both noted before the show, so many extra inning games in this Pirates DeBack set has two of them. And, yeah, it's been a running joke on this show for probably three years now, but the Diamondbacks have a way
Starting point is 00:15:17 of playing the craziest games. And game two is maybe their number one example of the year. It looks like they're cruising. By the way, D-back's hot. But Paul Seawald gives up back-to-back taters, and he loses the closer role in this series. Tori Lavello says that because Tori Lavello says whatever the hell he wants. I mean, they have a bunch of capable arms there in the bullpen.
Starting point is 00:15:42 So it makes sense. I mean, they are in the thick of it, in the wild card, as of right now. So, like, you can't be giving away games. You just can't. I mean, that's, like, the worst way to lose a game is a bullpen, coughing up a lead, a big homers, walks, whatever it is. But for them to come back after that, win that game, that's huge for them.
Starting point is 00:16:04 You're talking about a big time deflating loss, although I feel like the Diamondbacks are kind of just used to the up and down kind of ride. And listen, D-Backs fans, they keep getting on us about our trade deadline sheet. I had Gabby going to Yankees. It's like a wild card pick. It was two weeks ago. They were teetering on what they were going to do. It was a shot in the dark.
Starting point is 00:16:27 We understand the position they're in now. I don't think Eduardo Rodriguez is going anywhere. I know Gabriel Moreno is not going on. Everyone just relax. Okay, guys, it's a fun episode. But yeah, I mean, a huge series for them. And like I mentioned, you know, if I think the pirates are positioned like better than I think we're giving them credit
Starting point is 00:16:49 one of the better offenses in all of baseball you have that pitching staff that you could really dream upon like pairing it down in a playoff series they just need some bullpen help the defense does not help as we're watching some of these plays here but um bullpen help would go I think this team would be then in my twins would would what's the word I'm looking for would be would improve the most with some bullpen help.
Starting point is 00:17:17 So pirates go out and go and do it. Come on. Dback starting pitching this series, 20.2 innings pitch, zero earn runs. That formula plays. I mean, do you see the record when Erod starts? Yeah. And five in his 22 starts this year. I mean, what a guy.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Pirates have lost five straight games against lefties. Are they one of those teams looking for a righty hitter potentially? And just another thing. I know we jokingly talk about managers. Sometimes we seriously. I genuinely think it's so cool that Tori Lavello is actually a true manager. And he's got Perdomo and his bench coach, Bannister, are yelling to keep Kelly in, or not Kelly, excuse me, Erod.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And he's like, they're doing this in live time. And he's like, I'm not letting Erod throw 120 pitches. I don't know. I just, I love the way that franchise operates for one year. They were our golden goose and then they kind of gone missing. They're back. They're in the playoffs as of today. I do like this note from Dahlts here when Gabby took Jared Jones up top.
Starting point is 00:18:35 First of all, extended his franchise record streak to 45 straight starts reaching base. It's the longest active streak in major. baseball. It also took Jones streak of retiring 27 consecutive right-handed batters without a hit. Crazy. Crazy. See ya. You want him on the Yankees?
Starting point is 00:18:55 I put him on there. Yeah, dude, I want him on the Yankees, but that was never happening. I want Otani on the Yankees, too. He was a free agent. People forget that. Speaking of those Dodgers, they take two out of three from
Starting point is 00:19:11 Seattle. Seattle. If it's not Dom-Kanzone, they're not winning. And do you have a Dom-Kanzone? What's going on with you, dude? I flew to Seattle yesterday. Shout out Dom-Kanzone, obviously a big first game in this series before the Dodgers just threw Eric Lauer to beat you because that's what they do. I get on the plane.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I sit next to a young lady, and she's got some friends she's talking to. I noticed they have some Mariners gear on and then kind of just put two and two together and I said hey let's like you guys like traveling with the team you guys wives we start talking I got one two words to describe Dominic Ken zone's wife you ready for this I hope so man ball knower absolute ball no we talked ball we actually didn't talk at all until like we landed nice and we just had like a nice combo we went over like the CBA we went over Toronto's struggles. We went over all sorts of stuff.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Huge ball nowhere. So shout out to Kenzone. We talked WBC. It was awesome, man. Very, very cool. Nobody cares. Do you think I was going somewhere different with that? Mariners, 08 and 1 in their past nine road series.
Starting point is 00:20:36 Dude, Big Glove Rokey. Is this going to be the new pitching thing? like pitchers are just going to try new gloves? I don't know, dude. Because he switched to a big glove and now Roki Sasaki's amazing again. Yeah. I mean, we got teams with the programs
Starting point is 00:20:56 picking out pitches and stuff. I'm sure pitchers are going to try to hide it as best as possible, whatever they got to do over there. Tay Oscar, man, with a great, one of his best catches as a Dodger with a big swing in the series. It was, this series had a little bit of reminder of, well, every series has a little bit of reminder of who these guys are. But I know there's been a lot of eyes on scoble and we're daydreaming some Hunter Green or someone of that ilk.
Starting point is 00:21:21 And they probably will because you mentioned Eric Lauer, who's been solid for them. But, yeah, it's kind of how are they going to be on Monday? And I think we're all, if you're not a Dodger fan, you're just a little nervous because, God, they can, they can, they can swing whatever they want. I want to see what they're going to do with Show Hey. Yeah. Didn't play the last game. Knee soreness.
Starting point is 00:21:47 He's dealing with a right biceps issue as well. So it's like at what point are you like, hey, show, let's take a few weeks off here. And then kind of like recoup and get better. I'm very curious if they decide to do that because you need. I mean, there's a completely different team clearly without Show Hey, Otani. And he seems to be a little banged dump right now. Yeah, he doesn't play in that last game. I don't know, some people who care probably more about awards than us.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I do care about the MVP. If he sits out for a couple weeks, what our guy Peter is doing for the Cubbies, and he put that on display again in St. Louis, it seems like he likes playing there. I don't know if it's the memory of the fans yelling at him. But, God, if you like center field defense, watch the play he makes in the final game and extras to essentially, instead of making it a hairy extra innings, basically ending the game. I have some more Cubby stuff coming later on a guy named Alex Bregman, who had a big game and some clutch hits, so I'll let you go for a minute, and I'll wait.
Starting point is 00:22:51 I can't wait to hear what you have to say. I mean, we saw some magical moments in here. I mean, Cubs took care of business. Cards kind of got lucky to, I don't want to say they had lucky to win that one game. you know, Pete Carr Armstrong looked like he called game with that freaking pimp job Homer, which was awesome. Herrera ends up walking him off there. Great for them, great for the Cardinals.
Starting point is 00:23:14 It seems to me like they're leaning towards selling. Herrera himself was basically like saying Dustin Mays, you know, he gave him the farewell hug through a quote. So there's that. Then I was looking at kind of like who's on that team and who they could go. They might be one of the most important. teams at the deadline going the other way players out for them you know you talk about newt bar you talk about uh obviously dustin may um would they be willing to move off of
Starting point is 00:23:43 riley o'brien who's at a breakout season like there's a there's a bunch of guys there they're kind of you know we could see a move alec burleson jojo romero like they're they have a lot of pieces that i think teams will covet curious to see which way they go cubs kind of like you know cubs are cubs are i think who we thought they were a very good team. They need some help. They're going to be an interesting team of the deadline too with what they bring in. Feels like they've had an exhale recently. Like things got so bad for them. They're near 500. And now like Horner, Bregman, the top, top to bottom lineup. Like it feels like it's coming back. They just need pitching,
Starting point is 00:24:22 getting healthy, and the deadline. Well, I mean, how about our guy Javier Assad? What he's been doing? A two, three, one and 50 and two-thirds inning since May 1st across seven relief appearances and six starts. So we've always been at Javier Assad pod. We kind of have. Those guys make the world go round. Trev, I'm going to be honest with you, and this might scare you a little bit. Rest of the National League, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:50 We're at that time a year, dude, that did this Guardian's Red Series matter? Did the Braves Met Series matter? The Giants beat the Brewer? Like, honestly, and I, I can't believe, you know, Dalt might be disappointed because a lot of two-game sets we don't deal with. I think the Padres winning their games against the Rocky, I think that's the most important thing left in the National League. Tatis five for five. You know, they're kind of getting going there a little bit. That's big time for them. They need some arms of the deadline. This is deadline season. Let's wrap it up. Let's go to the Yale. Come on, baby.
Starting point is 00:25:26 I love me some American League. And I'll tell you what. The Motor City Kitties. Scoobel is at his last start. He shoves. We're up. Oh, my God. They blow the lead. It's a 10-9 final in extras.
Starting point is 00:25:48 It's the Orioles largest comeback in 17 years. And maybe that's a summation of the Tiger season. Maybe it's not. They just called up Max Clark. Orioles take two out of three. The Yankees, they split four with the White Sox. They win the first two games. Max Fried, Garrett Cole, clutch hitting, and then they're going to get three out of four.
Starting point is 00:26:11 But, oh, no, Edgar Caro, is he a top 25 catcher? He wins it in the 12th. And then another extra inning games, we end up splitting four. Yankee fans don't know how to feel about this team right now. The Rays take two out of three from the Rangers, because of course they did. Because after Cal Quantrell and Austin wins took advantage in the first game, the raise shut them down the rest of the way. Ryan Valade, of course. Midnight Johnny DeLuca, Shane McClannahan injury scare. Don't love that. But the race take the final two games to take
Starting point is 00:26:45 the set. The Boston Red Sox, Trev, you want to talk about F or F? Look what is going on in Boston. They take three out of four from the athletics. We're screaming at each other on the field. Duran and Contreras, like a little sack fly. I don't even know. Chad Tracy, I don't know if he has control of the team, but it doesn't matter because they keep winning game. Their record looks pretty good. We'll talk some Bow Sox coming up. How about the buying Minnesota Twins? They win the first game.
Starting point is 00:27:19 They get shut out. How about Randy Dobnack and that big old beer dropping it on them in that second game? And then they're going to lose the set. Trev, they're down three nothing. Two outs, two strikes. Rockets boy. Cody Clemens, into the seats to win the game, to win the series. Maybe that's more a summation of the royal season as they lose the series to the Twinkies.
Starting point is 00:27:44 My Blue Jays, the Great North, we take two out of three from the Nationals. Max Scherzer is back pitching on his 42nd birthday. Is that funny? What a sick puppy. What an absolute sick puppy. Ernie Clement RBI double, absolutely. Shane Bieber, yikes, that's tough. But they win the series.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Trey is Savage with a big outing. Could you be my Okamoto drives in two runs as they get the win? And your final American League series. Is something going on in Houston? They sweep, Swilly's Halos. Let me see your gong in that second game. Is Cam Smith happening, Trev? Formerly your guy?
Starting point is 00:28:29 Is it back? They sweep the halos. I cannot wait to see where they are in the standings, because that's what happened in the American League. Nobody better, Pap. I can't wait to talk to you about the American League. My twins. Go Royce Lewis, baby.
Starting point is 00:28:48 I have the standings. I'll start out east. Your Yankees, three and a half back of the Tampa Bay Rays were 20 games over 500. I feel like we still don't put enough respect on them. 64 and 44. the Yankees 61 and 48. Boston Red Sox, 57 and 51, seven games back in the division. The Byrds, three games under, 53 and 56.
Starting point is 00:29:12 In Toronto, 50 and 59. In the central, White Sox, two-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians, 57 and 51 for them. Guard dogs, two games over five at 56 and 54. My twins, another 55 and 55 team, dead even at 500. The Tigers, six-and-half games, back in the division, 51 and 58. Kansas City, 20, excuse me, 18 games under 546 and 64 for them.
Starting point is 00:29:39 And then out west, the Texas Rangers, Jock Peterson's Rangers, 55 and 54, a half game lead over those Houston Astros who are 55 and 55. Seattle, just waiting on them to get going, wait one more series because my twins are in town. I don't get it, man, 53 and 57 for them. only two and a half games back in the division the A's 45 and 64 The Angels 42 and 67 Tied for the worst record in all of baseball
Starting point is 00:30:10 With the Rockies In the wild card your yanks would have the first spot Boston would have the second spot And then the guard dogs Have a commanding one game lead Over Houston and the twins Baltimore two and a half back Seattle three back
Starting point is 00:30:26 And Detroit I'll let them sneak in today at four and a half games back. Those are your standings in the American League. Trevor, thank you as always. The American League, it would be Yankees Red Sox as of today doing the three-game playoff over again. Yankees Red Sox, Texas, Cleveland, is that what it would be?
Starting point is 00:30:48 Yeah, not as juicy. No offense to our Texans or Chris Rose's guards. But, man, I did this with the NL, and maybe I'm just a flavor of the weak guy. But yeah, I'm starting to get jazzy about the American League, and it's a little bit of your twins, and it's a little bit of the Astros. Like, it's not pretty, but I don't know,
Starting point is 00:31:12 give me Yordon in a playoff series, because he might just put the whole damn, I was going to say city on his back. You might put the country on his back. Like Yordaun is out of his mind right now. Trev, let's tell the people about ethos a little bit, because life insurance, being a father, it's important, man.
Starting point is 00:31:31 I think one of the days where I was at by, like, calmest I've ever been was when I got life insurance because you understand if something happens to you that your family is taking care of. And that's basically what being a husband and a father is all about. So I'm big on it. I think if you're thinking about it, you need to start planning and executing that plan. And Ethos makes it easy. It's fast, completely online. You get a quote in seconds, applying minutes, and you get same day cover.

Starting point is 00:32:22 E-T-H-O-S dot com slash talking. Application times may vary. Rates may vary. Let's shoot through. Again, probably the biggest news in the sport right now is Scoobel still. We've been doing this for a while. And Trev, I don't know. I gave a whole passionate speech how it shouldn't come down to one game.
Starting point is 00:32:40 And even it shouldn't come down to one week. That last scoble start, they're up. They're feeling good. It's 7-0 in the sixth inning. They lose the game 10 to 9 and 12, coach. That's tough. And it looked like, has Cole Tucker's text me right now?
Starting point is 00:33:01 Okay. 14 to nothing in game two, they win. They scored in every inning that they batted, which is nice. Then you get scoble up 7-0. You're feeling good. And yeah, I'm sure the guys in that clubhouse are sitting around wondering, okay, what is going to happen?
Starting point is 00:33:17 Are they going to give us a chance to get back in it? But it seemed like when he came off the mound and some of the stuff that we've been hearing, you know, from passing or whoever, it seems like this might be his last start. So that's a tough way for them to go out. You need to win those games. You need to win pretty much every school game for the Tigers, and you lose that one very, very tough.
Starting point is 00:33:42 But I do, I'm in the camp that he gets traded. I don't know if that was, you know, we talked about this before the year, and we'll kind of just stay on this, I guess. You know, Scott Harris running the team, did he want to trade school in the off season? What was the best plan for it? We have the Shohei Otani kind of blueprint where the angels should have done it and they didn't. I think if he, I had this discussion with Rosie a little bit about Scoob.
Starting point is 00:34:04 I don't think the package for Scoobel would be any different if they would have traded him in the offseason. So I think they gave themselves a chance. Tigers just didn't get it done. I mean, dude, they're sitting right now. What do they say they are? There's seven games under 500. You didn't get the job done. If you were 500 right now, I don't think Scooble gets traded.
Starting point is 00:34:22 But they didn't get the job done. So now I think he ends up moving. And can they still compete without him? And depending on the package, they get back. Sure. I mean, the American League, as we mentioned, is kind of wide open. They're only four and a half games back. But it's going to be a big hit.
Starting point is 00:34:39 I do think he gets moved. And I guess we're just, it's the biggest waiting game in baseball right now is to see who gets him. Yeah. And the way Passing's talking about it and the way everyone's talking about it. Because, again, just a reminder, these are people with information. and we are not, besides Trev's insider trading with the twins, it seems like Scoobel's getting traded.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Like, who knows? Who knows what's going on? And I think you're right. I think as we talk about trade value sometimes, I think the value of having Scoobel for a guaranteed playoff run, if you're trading for him now, then before the season, I do think the package is the same. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:23 It's the offseason optimism. Yeah, exactly. The offseason optimism. Everyone thinks, hey, my starting pitching staff is going to be healthy. Hey, we're going to be in the right position. Now it's like you have a clear picture of how your season's going. I mean, look, hey, the Tigers, you bring Max Clark up, which is exciting. I've followed this guy on Instagram since he was in high school, which is weird to say.
Starting point is 00:35:43 But one of those guys you just see, like, crushing the ball. I think he's from, is he from Indiana or something like that? And just making kids just look like kids in high school. school but now he gets the call so we we you know i think if you follow the game you know who he is big prospect guy that's not a big prospect getting the job done my guy adrardo valencia i told you i had a comp for him did you guess it yet no i i just saw a thick tiger and i was thinking like abysail garcia but he used to get compared to minnie big rara i know but so i didn't again i didn't think it was that but i'm interested give me one more look at him eh eugenio
Starting point is 00:36:23 So it's not really like who he looks like, but as a player, you know, spending a lot of time in the minor leagues, finally getting a crack at a good hitter. Joey Manessus. Okay. Yeah. So you're going more so the spirit of Eduardo Valencia. I mean, the swing's not too dissimilar either, buddy. Okay. Shout out Joy and Vanessa.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Still doing it. I think he was with the A's as recently. Dude, he did show up somewhere and I was like, damn, Joey Manassas is still. Batlin. Yeah, Tigers and Rob just showed us on our side screen here. Bob Nightingale just said Casey Mize scratched
Starting point is 00:37:03 and they're going to pitch him the day after the deadline. Okay. Yeah, okay. We're starting to see some signs in Detroit. I think people forget about Casey Mize impending free agent because all the talk is about Scoobel. Like this guy's going to help somebody.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Yeah. He's a big time He's a big time pitcher. He's got great stuff. Tigers, yeah. I mean, the Tigers hold the key. The Cardinals hold the key. I mean, there's a lot of, there's a lot of these teams who are like, okay. Because when you start to think about, we've done a lot of trade stuff as
Starting point is 00:37:38 recently and you're like, okay, who are the teams that are going to sell? Like who is going to be this one of the teams that's two and a half games out of the wild cards? Like, let's take advantage of this. And I think we're starting to start, we're starting to see some teams. Treve, I'm going to save more of this speech, but we talked about there was more extra inning games. I saw more situational hitting. I saw a lot more two strike swings. Huh.
Starting point is 00:38:03 So that can exist. Anyways, we talked nothing about the series because nobody cares. Orioles great comeback. Dean Kramer, you're out. Colton Kouser with a great catch. Colton Kouser with a missed great catch. And hey, the Orioles right now are talking about we're going to rally and Kobe Mayer. bash's lefties.
Starting point is 00:38:23 I just don't know what to do with it. Okay. Okay. Here we go. Is this cows in the gap? It's a nice catch. Yeah, he can go get. This is the squirrel series, too.
Starting point is 00:38:36 It is the story series. Rob, roll some squirrel highlights and a little tease for the offseason, you know, as we're going to be in lockout hell. You bet your ass there's going to be a day when we drop animals on the field, mixtape because that's what we do at talking baseball. I had a good squirrel joke. I forget what it was. God damn it.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Did you see? Okay. Here's the squirrel. And it just took a gaggle of grounds crew members to to rally that thing. And then I guess the squirrel after they got it off the field got loose underneath the stadium. So that has a new home. I did hear that. Like we're going to see that squirrel again.
Starting point is 00:39:20 we had the Harrison Bader scooter accident, which sounds like, you know, unconfirmed here. It sounds like he teaboned a fire truck with scooter. And then the fire truck ran over his foot. That's the reports right now, which is just a wild sentence to put together. Because you're already banged up on your foot. You shouldn't like the bird is not a good idea for that. Yeah. Especially after some pops.
Starting point is 00:39:47 That's also being reported. there was a minor league game where the mascot was on scooter going around the warning track and did it was it Zach Gelloff did I see that correctly was he like rehabbing and got nailed by the Alec Thomas Alex Thomas you know he was in some he was in diamondbacks world series game he played in some big games with team Mexico he gets popped can't happen that can't happen. Wait, where is that? And you mentioned your,
Starting point is 00:40:25 you mentioned your scooter accident? Do we need to ban scooters? Oh, is that in Sacramento? Is that a minor league game in that? Sacramento. I, sorry Alec Thomas.
Starting point is 00:40:42 I will say, Alec Thomas, I believe winning off the field. Okay, good. Just, you know, just that helps. Give us your Yankees, white socks, go. I'll less than 60 seconds. They can pitch Max Fried, Garrett Cole, Cam Schlittler, Ryan Weathers. The offense still, you get one chance a game it feels like. And they could have four games swept this and Yankee fans could be walking tall right now. Instead, you got some sloppy base running by Dominguez. It just doesn't feel right. And they're, dude, they're missing Judge Belly and Stanton. So I,
Starting point is 00:41:22 That's normally they're two, three, four. So yes, your offense should feel different. I don't know. Hey, honestly, good for the White Sox for battling and grinding and winning those last two games. Because those games could have went either way and they went the White Sox way. Good for them. That's what I got. I was going to ask you like, yeah, your take on the White Sox.
Starting point is 00:41:43 You're giving them credit. You're not that good of a team. How do you feel? They are the White Sox. They are in this year's American League. around a 500 team. They're pesky. I don't know what it means because I honestly, Trev, the team I like probably the most in the American League Central right now is your Minnesota Twins because I kind of feel like I know what I'm going to get. I feel like they're going to,
Starting point is 00:42:10 they've got a punchy offense up and down the lineup. They've been pushing runs across. When your twins pitch, they win. The guards are kind of the opposite. It's like if they hit, they win because they pitch. That the White Sox, it's pesky I will say this and the Yankees pitched amazing you know we're Paul Blackburn who's been awesome and now we're rolling on this
Starting point is 00:42:34 this is White Sox conversation the lineup didn't feel super threatening it felt like you could navigate it which I feel like it didn't feel that way earlier with Colson Montgomery and Murakami but outside of that I guess it
Starting point is 00:42:54 feels like you can get around the white socks. They're a little piranha-ish where they can kind of bite you up and down the lineup. They have guys they can do it. They move the ball. They can do all that. If Murakami and the top of the lineup is also firing at the same time, that's when their offense looks the best. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Okay. Fun deadline for both teams. Again, two more extra inning games. Let me tell you, your catcher and Ryan McMahon trying to pick off. Murakami was they they plan that that wasn't a spur of the moment thing because you see McMahon taking off from his position early on giving up his position is crazy in that situation with two outs like I just I don't I don't understand that thinking whatsoever I know Aaron Boone kind of defended it and said oh they just need to play catch just like no dude like that's
Starting point is 00:43:46 just a dumb time to do it it's a dumb time to do it go listen to talking yanks Joe's You can't. Brian. I can't. I can't. I can't. That's the difference between winning a game. And speaking of winning games, it's what the Red Sox do now.
Starting point is 00:44:08 And their record is full-blown. Like, it's a good season. It's 57 and 51. And they take three out of four. And they come from behind in that final game. And Treb, I don't know if people, the talking baseball people, if you listen to our show and you like it, I got some love in Toronto last night.
Starting point is 00:44:27 My buddy Jeff thought that was cool. And, you know, Trev, you got some love, some people saying nice words about you. We all watch our teams, you know? We're baseball people that sometimes you don't hop around the league. I know people listen to talking baseball in a lot of different ways. Some people only want to listen about their team, and then they do some, maybe they do awards, or they do the whole thing. If you don't know the F or F energy that's going on in Boston right now, if that's something you enjoy,
Starting point is 00:44:54 enjoy. Jaron Duran yelling at Contreras for not tagging up on a very shallow flat ball. Like these guys are Wilson Contreras is
Starting point is 00:45:08 what was it last series when he was yelling at the dugout for like someone said good swing and he was like shut the hell up. These guys are out of their minds but it's working. Well he foul the pitch off to keep the bat alive. Yes.
Starting point is 00:45:22 They were like, good job. this uh okay horrible look because he keeps going duran uh every hitter feels this you're struggling you hit what you think is a sack fly you're like okay at least i didn't i didn't like make an out with nothing to show for it i get a ribby great i do something good for the team and then all of a sudden the guy on third doesn't tag up and you just feel you're mad you get mad it's just part of it you can't do what he did though you keep that inside you you you you bury it as deep as you can and maybe go into the tunnel and yell at yourself. But yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:58 Not on this Red Sox team, Trev. You can do whatever the hell you want, bro. Holding Intreras, screaming at his guys after foul balls. I told you that's the energy that kept this team afloat. With Contreras and Sonny, he had a great discussion last night. Went out to dinner with,
Starting point is 00:46:16 I mean, just a who is who a baseball player. Joe Ryan, Ryan Jeffers, Bailey Oberg, T. Plouffe. just a big dinner and we talked about sunny gray a lot and you know how much he means to teams by the way we're going to have to look in his basement because he's about to get another deal who gets the tab um last night we all split it sometimes i'll pick it up just depends on the night we all split it last night yeah not very show but so yeah four four show guys at the table we
Starting point is 00:46:51 It's a bunch of vets. It's a bunch of vets. It's a bunch of vets. So we split it. If it was young guys, I would have picked it up. These guys are- I hate to tell you this. You're not on the team. I kind of am on the team.
Starting point is 00:47:02 You kind of are. I'm on the team just a little bit, like the smallest smidge. Who's collecting the most? Is that Joe Ryan right now? Ooh. I don't know. I think maybe it might be Jeffers. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Yeah, let's check that out. Glad you guys had a nice dinner. I guess we kind of skipped over the series. Red Sox take three or four. It's kind of obvious. There's no serious. Yeah. I mean, they're running hot right now, man.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I want to see what they end up doing. Do they sell and buy at the same time? They're not selling. Is Jaron Duran trying to get out of Boston right now? Well, so that is interesting. And I credit to whoever it was, there was kind of a viral Red Sox tweet that was like breaking. I think it was Jaron Duran traded to San Diego for a couple passes. to the zoo, which it's a fantastic zoo in San Diego, so in a way that's not insulting,
Starting point is 00:47:56 but in a way it is that, yeah, I would love to know their next move because, again, they already, they did the Curtis Meade like there. And then he's out for the season. I think they're pot committed for our poker players out there. So, I mean, listen to these stats. And we know that they just went on this run, but seven straight series, 20 and three since July 5th, 12 and 1 across last two road trips. They've come from behind and eight of the last 12 wins and they've won 23 straight games from scoring four or more runs. Go Red Sox, go, baby. Their
Starting point is 00:48:31 pitching's been great. Trev, you get a minute on the twins because sadly I'm talking twins later. Yeah, I won't steal your thunder. I mean, this is a series of twins could have got swept. Like literally like we're about to get swept. Royce down to one in that last inning. He's had some interesting swings, man. Like it's even in the last game where before Clemens did his thing, he gets this knock where he's just his, we call it ass out, ass out kind of hands extended, able to keep his hands through the ball just enough.
Starting point is 00:49:06 But this was huge for him and the twins, walk off triple in that first game. And then Randy Dobnack, our guy who was with the twins, just shuts him down. just absolutely shuts the twins down. Their offense kind of goes numb. Noah Cameron's, no hitting him through that last game for a while. Vives are bad.
Starting point is 00:49:27 And yes. I mean, they were down to their last strike in that last game. I want to say three different at-bats. And I'll let you talk about what happens next. But they are, I mean, they're buyers. We bought, I mean, AJ Minter last night. At the table we're having dinner. Jeffers goes, oh, got a trade alert.
Starting point is 00:49:46 He's on high alert still. Right. You know, he's, he's, I asked him, I don't think it matters if I share this. And I say, hey, like, how are you feeling nervous? Like, what's, what's the mindset right now? He goes, I just want it done. I just want the, I want Monday to be over with. It's a weird time for him to be in there.
Starting point is 00:50:04 But, yeah, AJ Minter comes over, a left-handed reliever. You know, people forget, we got Tommy Nance earlier. So there's like that way. They've been trying to upgrade the bullpen as best they can. And I don't think, I don't think we're done. So, yeah, buyers, one game out of the wild card. This is a big series against Seattle. Royals, you're out.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Jays and Nats, you guys are kind of out. Again, Toronto, you're beautiful right now. I can't wait to explore more of you, but sell is the word around town right now. Andrew Yon is in the big, excuse, Eddie Yeen. I guess anything you want on Houston, Trev, because again, in the American League, it's a talking point. They sweep the halos, which not much of a surprise, but it's hard to sweep any team. And they, again, they could steal the deadline. I don't know if you said this or not going through the burns.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Sometimes I miss some of your beautiful words. But yeah, back at 500 for the first time since April 7th. They've won eight of nine. at one point we're 11 games under 500 at 20 and 31 they're 35 and 24 cents they're on the right path and they do this team does hold a bunch of trade chips I just don't think it's going to happen now
Starting point is 00:51:28 or maybe they will be one of those teams just like you know why not let's take advantage but they're trying to the other way right now and we used to say what about this Houston team they're inevitable And maybe they just... Are they? I don't.
Starting point is 00:51:45 We said that for a long time. And right now they're winning games, putting themselves right back into it. Last year, they kind of took it off. Even though they won 87 games last year. People forget that, dude. I don't. So, I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:52:01 The Astros are fun. They won series like they needed to win, man. Let's go to the second half of the show, because we do have some juicy, juicy stuff coming and of course it starts off with standout performances it's time for standout performances stand out performances this guy stood out for trev say what coach i went off the sheet for mine how about that there are times where we always say one game doesn't define a season i think this one game have defined the season for the Miami Marlins.
Starting point is 00:52:46 We talked about game one, 12-game losing street going into that game. You're facing Zach fucking Wheeler. It's not a good time to be a Marlin. Philly's score first, but you know what, Auerberta Hernandez says, I'm going to hit a homer and answer that in the top and the bottom of the first to tie the game. Thank you very much. and then later in the game, what does he do? Ties the game with a two-run single up the middle off of Yohan Duran.
Starting point is 00:53:18 Imagine doing that. Wheeler and then Duran, we know what happened in the season. They end up sweeping. They get back to 500. And if it goes the other way and they lose that first game and, you know, all of a sudden it's 13 games in a row. It's 14 games in a row. We're talking about the Marlins having a completely different outlook on the year and the trade deadline. Instead, boom, our guy, Ariberto comes up, does it.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Check out his year he's having. Nice to year. You mentioned Griffin Cohnai, what he did at the end of that game with the walkoff. I don't know, man. I just thought that he might have saved the Marlin season with his 2 for 5, 3 RBI game on Monday. I love it. I love Aiberto. And, dude, I'm honestly, a little inside Jake, I'm a little mad.
Starting point is 00:54:14 I put the chips on the table with the Marlins, and they literally had the worst losing streak you possibly could. I really like this team, and I was really hoping they were going to add, and now they're taking offers for Odo and everyone. Hey, you got to take offers and do your job, Pedy Bendix, but like, I really like this team. I should have just added Griffin Conine in there as well because he had a similar line. He also took Zach Wheeler Deep. He had the walk off like both of those guys together. How about that saved the Marlin season? I think Dalton gets sad when we go off sheet.
Starting point is 00:54:53 No, I think he's proud. Okay. That means we're doing the work. Speaking of doing the work, and you mentioned you fake did a double at the end because Griffin conine out of his dome. A lot of the things I'm about to say I could have said about Nico Horner who went nuts, although I think you're talking about him a little more in a second. I'm going Alex Bregman, Coach Trev.
Starting point is 00:55:18 Another team that I professed my love for, the Chicago Cubs, and then they had a double-digit losing streak. So maybe I am. Maybe I'm the problem. It's me. The Cubbies in St. Louis this weekend. A lot of hits. Breggie, he goes four for five on Monday.
Starting point is 00:55:40 Ten for 18, 10 hits, Trev. That's, I can get you through a couple weeks. Seven hits in a two-game span. That matches a career high for him. Two doubles and a homer. And Trev, the other thing, and I love the way you phrased it before, butt out hitting. As out hitting, excuse me.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Breggie had a couple swings that was, hey, two outs. We need something here. And that's who Alex Breggman is. And that's the reason they brought this guy in. And Trev, I was having a weird looking at the Cubs when things were spiraling. And it was like, wait, what are Nico Horner stats? What are Breggman stats? And these are supposed to be, we gave them so much credit.
Starting point is 00:56:30 You got these baseball rats, baseball dogs. Well, okay, being a baseball rat and baseball dog is cool, but if you got an OPS plus of 82, your ratiness goes down a little bit. But the problem, or not the problem is, it's a long season coach. I think we're going to be talking more cubbies coming up. I think they got through their version of the dog days. I think we're going to get some help at the deadline. I think we're going to get some pitchers healthy.
Starting point is 00:56:57 Your guy Shoda has turned it up a notch. Big week coming, Yankees' dog. But with what Peter's doing in the outfield, we haven't talked Bregman. Trev, think about how much ball we talk. We haven't talked Bregman or Horner at all. No, we have not. But I'm going to talk Horner a little bit more coming up. So I'm glad you brought our guy Breggy up because he deserves it.
Starting point is 00:57:20 We kind of did a double there. Trev, Jackson Holiday could have been brought up. We talked to Duardo Valencia ad nauseam. Tommy takes. Say Tyrone Taylor. Tommy. Where's he playing in a couple days? Tommy tanks with a four-hit day.
Starting point is 00:57:38 Andrew Monasterio, excuse me? Always Troy Melton and Gage jump. Trev, I'm hoping we see some of these guys on Enfuego. Dirt Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco. It's time for Enfuego, powered by Amazon. Just like Amazon helps you get maximum value out of every dollar this back-to-school season. We're talking about the players who have been delivering maximum value on the field.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Am I one person removed from Jeff Bezos? I am. Shout out Amazon. I love to see this guy on the list. We talk about him all the time, or at least we used to. Our guy Lawrence Butler out there in Sacramento goes five for 11 for those hits, Jake, are doubles. The other one is a Homer. He's got his average up to the highest.
Starting point is 00:58:27 It's been since April 9th. How about that? Von Grissom goes six for six. 12, five runs driven in. Nico Horner. We talked about him a little bit. Those 8 for 15, 6 runs driven in the series, that's nice. Griffin-Konin has the walk-off RBI single
Starting point is 00:58:42 in game one. In game three, he gets to go ahead, pinch it two-run Homer. His dad's in the stands going nuts. You love to see it. For the week, Tyrone Taylor? Five for 15, two homers, eight runs driven in, playing a defense out there. Okay. Mets
Starting point is 00:58:59 already selling. So we'll see what happens with him. Love to see Murakami of Chicago on this list. Nine for 28, two doubles, three homers, that's what he does. He has the highest hard hit percentage in majorly baseball amongst players
Starting point is 00:59:15 with three appearances or more this season. So that's a good thing to have. To be leading in that, good. This is an interesting guy, Jake. Jackson Holiday for the Baltimore Orioles. Still 23 years old, 11,
Starting point is 00:59:31 for 20, five runs driven in since the break is the highest batting average in all of Major League Baseball amongst qualified hitters. It's 429. He's been mentioned by our guy Jeff Pass and brother Jeff possibly being shopped by the Orioles. If I'm a team, I'm looking, I'm looking. I think there's a lot left with Jackson Holiday. Interesting to see. Dylan Cruz goes 7 for 22 with two doubles, two homers, three runs driven in, and that is who's in Fuego. Jackson Holiday trade rumors? That's what Brother Jeff is saying, not me. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 01:00:13 Thanks to our partners at Amazon, shop back to school at Amazon, and spend less on your kids. Yeah, I don't know. Jackson Holiday, it feels like to play him and let him be good. I don't know. I don't know. Orioles fans, you let me know. I say
Starting point is 01:00:31 Lawrence Butler have a second half. Come on. Come on. Great job, Trev. Let's do the stuff that people don't want to hear. Batters who are struggling and who's hurt. Hey man. Lately, it's time to pick it off.
Starting point is 01:00:52 I hope every one of these guys is in Fuego soon. And my God, have the dog days come for some of the young pups? Anhele Martinez, 0 for 15 since coming off the IL. Sorry, pal. Lucas Spence down in Houston. He's in a one for 16. Okay, nine strikeouts. Garrett Mitchell's in a one for 16.
Starting point is 01:01:17 Doesn't like the low ball. Missed on 53% of swings on low pitches. That's the highest in the NL. That feels scouting reporty. This one kills me. Jimmy baseball. Jim Jarvis is in a one for 50. It really, it comes for everyone, trust.
Starting point is 01:01:36 It comes for everyone. Two weeks, Trent Grisham. Couple good swings, hopefully this gets them out of it, but a five for 46. Yikes, third lowest batting average on pitchers in the strike zone. About to text Jimmy that. He's not going to like that. Brandon Marsh, kind of looks like Shelfy.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Five for 39. Troy Johnston, go rocks, four for 28, and Denzer Guzman, four for 20 night. That's who's struggling. My microphone's struggling, put him on the list. The only list you don't want to be on, the IL. Carrie Carpenter, Trev, okay, does this change anything in Detroit? Maybe it allows Max Clark to come up. Remember him wearing the chains at spring training?
Starting point is 01:02:26 Rob, that's a deep cut, but if we could find him. that. Sorry, Max Clark. Carrie Carpenter, planter fasciitis. Spencer Steer, four weeks or the rest of the season. Same with Casey Schmidt. These were two trade guys. Buck Daddy, that right hip. What's going on with Buck, Trev? His hips been bothering him. It affects his swing. It kind of affects everything. He hasn't been himself, and they want to make sure he's good. So, yeah, we got a guy like Max Clark waiting Walker Jenkins. They didn't call him up. Called Tristan Graf instead. They compare this guy's swing to Joe Mower. All right. Curtis Mead just joins the Sox, left wrist fracture. He's going to try to get back
Starting point is 01:03:13 for the end of the season, brutal. Vinnie P. Right wrist. Um, hoping for three to four weeks. Tough, tough injury year for him. Returning from the aisle, our guy, Everson Pereira, Andy Rodriguez, Javier, the young man in Detroit. Kike Hernandez for your Dodgers. See him in October. Bob Ref Snyder is back in Seattle. Couple catchers, Stubbs and Darno, Edwin Diaz, Jeremiah Estrada, A.J. Smith, Shaver. Back for Atlanta. Shuffer? Shaver? Matt McLean, Jake Irvin. Trevor Williams? Trevor Williams is back. Let's fucking go. an OG talking baseball COVID interview, Trevor Williams.
Starting point is 01:04:05 Trevor, I have some good news for you. That's who's coming off the IL. It's a tough segment. Bob Seraco has something for us. He has, what do we call this, Rob? Pitchers getting rocked. The agony of the long ball. The agony.
Starting point is 01:04:20 The agony of the long ball. Here we go. Welcome to the agony of the long ball. Tyler Soderstrom now first pitch swinging well struck to left with Duran back at the wall and that is God. Oh, the spinny do that's what I call that yeah oh shame shame shame Valencia oh not again
Starting point is 01:04:58 and he hits this ball to Valencia this is Dean Cameron for audio only Taking a poop Is that Cade Cavali? It is. Yeah. A little F-Boy energy out of Cade. Like it. Definitely F-boy. Let's
Starting point is 01:05:22 kick everyone's weekend off the best way we possibly can with awards. Awards are presented to you guys by Seat Geek. Go to something because Seat Geek has everything and we got a code coming for you in a second. What's your award, Trev?
Starting point is 01:05:41 this is like not a no it is an award because it's the award segment but this is more of a like hating myself uh type of situation here let's bring it back to like different times of our lifetime where if you would have just made one sort of call or or smart play that you know you're you're raking in the dough you could say okay early on bitcoin you hear somebody to talk about it. These guys are paying thousands of Bitcoin to buy pizza. If you were that pizza place, you probably really liked that. Guys are giving their salary in Bitcoin early on. Now, it went from 120. It's sitting like 65 right now. But if you got in early on Bitcoin, you could have made a ton of cash. I always say this. You know, where I grew up, there's Los Angeles and then the
Starting point is 01:06:37 suburbs. The suburbs are like almost ever expanding. I go, why couldn't my like, My grandpa comes over from Montana. Hey, Gramps, why don't you just buy some land outside of Los Angeles? Because we could have been sitting pretty. We're talking about Porter Ranch. If you're out here, you know there was nothing. Now it's just built up. Santa Clarita Valley, Westlake, any of these places,
Starting point is 01:06:59 you could have just bought some land held on to it. You would have been like Rick Caruso right now, essentially, who is our developer out here in Los Angeles. Ran for mayor, didn't win, or even for governor, I'm not really sure. You can go up and down the history. Hey, you wanted to buy Apple stock. Any of these tech stocks would have been big. Nvidia is probably a good one to talk about.
Starting point is 01:07:20 Could have loaded up on that. Hey, maybe you invested early in John Boy Media. Oh. Maybe that would have been a good one. There are times in our life where we could have made a right decision and it could have changed your life forever. We talk about it with Shohei Otani. Why didn't we just buy a bunch of rules?
Starting point is 01:07:41 rookie cards. This guy coming over. I don't know what it was, Jake. I think a lot of people still couldn't grasp the idea of Shohei Otani and what he could mean for the sport. He also came over and in spring training looked bad hitting. So people
Starting point is 01:08:00 kind of wrote him off and said, this isn't going to work. It's worked. He's going to end up being the greatest player that's ever played the game. He's going to win seven MVP's. He's the guy. And if you would have bought in on him early, you could have been sitting pretty. I'm sure there's some guy out there that was just like, hey, this is fun.
Starting point is 01:08:20 I want to follow this guy. I'm going to PC, which means personally collect him. I'm sure there's a guy sitting on a ton of Showhay stuff. And one day, he or his kids are going to cash it in and be very happy. Do you know what a recent card of his just sold for? There's this whole thing going on. It's called the National right now. It's a big card convention.
Starting point is 01:08:42 and the card business is out of control right now. Some people in the hobby love it, and a lot of people hate it, because there's kind of almost like private equities moving into every single facet of our life. There's like these big groups now running through this card game, buying up these big cards, elevating prices throughout the thing.
Starting point is 01:09:07 It's a whole situation. What is your award? Show Hey Otanis. Let me get to it first of all. Where do you? You got somewhere to go right now? Get somewhere to go right now? You're talking real estate in Montana for a little bit?
Starting point is 01:09:22 I'm getting to it. Yeah, Al Plouf moved from Montana to L.A. back in the 60s. Come on. Shout out, Al. Shout out Al Plouf. There was a new card that Tops put out. It's a dual logo, man. There it is.
Starting point is 01:09:36 It's got two Otani gold, a logo man's from his 24 and 25 MVP and has both of his signatures, his American signature, and his kanji signature, which he doesn't do too often. So this card gets, the, Tops puts it out that this is going to be in one of the packs. And what they're doing now is they're putting bounties on this card. So somebody put immediately a $2.5 million bounty on this card. Somebody's like, that's not enough. They put a six and a half million bounty on this card. Publicly, it got up to 10. If you pull this card, someone will give you $10 million for it. It ends up going to auction and, what enough went to auction, actually? Topps says that the card was pulled at a hobby box of
Starting point is 01:10:25 Topps Chrome baseball by a collector at his local card shop in Boca Sport. Yes. In Boca Raton, in Boca Raton. It's a redemption card. So they don't have it yet, but somebody in Boca Raton gets it. Kevin O'Leary of Shark Tank fame, him and his people at secure collectibles end up paying $11 million for this show hey card. $11 million. It's now the third all-time highest publicly known sports card sale of all time. Kevin O'Leary and his gang also have the number one, Jake. Can you guess what it is?
Starting point is 01:11:07 What is it? Like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant card? Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, 2007, 2008, Upper Deck, dual NBA logo. And that one won for $12.9 million. There's one in between that and the show. Hey, you got any idea what that is? I don't, and I only got the other one because Rob had it on his producer screen.
Starting point is 01:11:27 So I don't want to take credit for that victory. The other one is the Mickey Mantle 52 Tops, which is like a very famous card. And it was in a very high grade. That one went for $12.6 million in 2022. So some of these cards, man. Some of these cards are incredible. I had seen that show head card.
Starting point is 01:11:49 I thought it was great. Did I ever think it was $11 million great? I don't know, man. Is it too late? Should I get into the hobby now and start buying some? Probably not, right? I don't know what it is. I wanted to share of the people.
Starting point is 01:12:00 That's a great card right there. Sheesh. That's my award. I don't know, man. I just wanted to shine some light on. it is going to you for maybe buying more cards so teddy can have a better life i i started this out by saying i don't think this is an award but i wanted to share the story and it's i can do whatever i want at this portion of the show i i liked it um shout out show hey kobe mj and al ploof
Starting point is 01:12:29 10 million dollars for a michael jordan the brains similar dual logo man card that's I tell you what? Should we be buying cards in Boka? What are we doing? I guess that's the whole award. Congrats to that guy. Congrats to Shohei. Congrats to Decoy.
Starting point is 01:12:51 Haven't listened to the Ipe 30 for 30 yet. I heard that's interesting. Maybe check that out. Great award, Trev. I think I'm going to give out the bend the knee. You and I are both Game of Thrones guys. I'm now watching. House of Dragon. I'm three Epsom, I like what's going on.
Starting point is 01:13:12 The original Game in Thrones, there's a lot of bend the knee talk. John Snow, Danny, if you're respecting a king, you've got to bend that knee. I don't think I'm bending it to you. I think I'm bending it to Cody Clemens. Because, hey, man, no, no, it's tough having a legendary Papa. Roger Clemens, Inner Circle Hall of Fame, has an argument for, like, best pitcher ever. Put him in the Hall of Fame, actually.
Starting point is 01:13:42 What are we doing? And Rockett's on a run right now. He's showing up in the booth. He's showing up everywhere. Goofy guy. This is a boy Cody. And I remember when he came up, and it was like, people were like,
Starting point is 01:13:54 yeah, it's Rockets boy, but, you know, kind of the, it's like, ah, he's not like a real prospect. Like, he's, you know, made it to the bigs. That's cool. But, you know, it don't. don't buy Cody Clemens rookie cards. Maybe we should have. Because your guy Cody Clemens has been awesome for the twins this year,
Starting point is 01:14:13 versatile, a fierce, a threatening lefty bat. And Trev, he hit a historic home run. Bottom nine, bases loaded, two outs, 02, losing three to nothing. And he hits the ultimate grand slam, flipping the scoreboard from 3-0 to 4-3 on the last out, on the last strike to go from a loss to the win. First time in MLB history that a team broke up a no-hitter in the seventh inning or later, then hit a walk-off grand slam in the game. If you're a win probability person, it added 9-23.923, like a 93% chance of not winning to winning.
Starting point is 01:15:02 And this all started with two out. They had two outs and nobody on and a shutout. This game's over. And then it wasn't, Coach Trev. The twins had lost 508 straight games when trailing by three plus runs entering their final at bat. July 2015. I wonder who's connected to that twin squad at all. And then the other fun fact here,
Starting point is 01:15:27 twins only the third team in MLB history to hit a walk-off slam after having two outs and no one on base that inning. The Diamondbacks in September of 2011, the Pirates in July of 2001. Derek Shelton having his 56th birthday on Thursday. Treb, if there's one thing I believe in, as I'm in the Great North where I thought Toronto had magic last year, there's a little bit of dust on your twins. I don't know what to do with it.
Starting point is 01:15:59 I kind of believe, and I hate it. But congrats, I'm bending the knee to Cody Clemens, not you. It was incredible. My award was the guy that opened the pack that got the show hey cart. Fantastic. Full circle moment. Full circle moment. It was Noah Cameron pitched great.
Starting point is 01:16:22 They get him out of the game. Lucas Urshage comes in, gets two outs right away. He hits Jeffers. And that's kind of how it started. Royce, two strikes on him. He asses out. outed a ball up the middle. Josh Bell with a great bat.
Starting point is 01:16:37 He got down to two strikes. He ends up walking. They bring in Matt Strom, who is, you know, lefty-lefty. You'd expect some of that slider stuff to be going on. He throws first-pitch fastball down the middle, second-pitch fastball. Cody takes a great hack on it, fouls it off. And Morny's like, well, you know, it's weird. You usually expect the lefty-lefty to come and throw on those sliders,
Starting point is 01:17:00 but Strom's slider has been getting pummeled lately. he goes to the slider and then what happens the first time majorly baseball history an oh-2 walkoff grand slam so cody clemen stud i saw him last night gave him big hug he's like man like that was the coolest moment i blacked out around the bases don't remember anything and you know his nickname is son of a rocket the missile okay sure yeah the missile you like that you like that you like that right? I'm in on that. Yeah, I thought about fighting it. I got no reason to. That's fantastic. Wow. What an award segment. And everyone, I guess I hope your team wins or loses this weekend. I don't know what you guys want if you're buying or selling. We're going to be live
Starting point is 01:17:55 through the deadline. I think we're going live around 4 p.m. Eastern Standard on Monday. The deadlines at six. John's going to be there. Chick-Sacks. Chris Rose showing up, all of our people. Hopefully it's a big one. Maybe some breaking news. Who knows?
Starting point is 01:18:17 Do you know the Astros have used 15 starting pitchers this year? Robbie Ray, you are an Astro. Robbie Ray did the twins.
