Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball.
Houston, do we?
The Mets are hot.
Trevor Plouf announces one team dead.
Early release?
Sanchez.
Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball presented to you by Seat.
Yeek.
Welcome to Talking Baseball.
April 18th Thursday night.
A little warehouse action going on.
So we're getting the record in
And we'll get it out for you people
And I hope a lot of you can enjoy it
Maybe first thing Friday
When you're normally waiting for it
And it could be out for you
What are you always waiting for, Trev?
What am I always waiting for?
In the morning, I like a nice cup of coffee
That's like something I look forward to
Every single day
But I got to have water
Before I have my coffee. Does that make sense?
Yeah, same.
You don't want to pour that coffee
Right on the bottom on your stomach, right?
I don't know.
I kind of do.
Look, try to talk ball.
today, though, Jake. You look great. Bebers, you look great. And yeah, early release for the people.
It's all we know. Yeah, we got, not only do we have our slapball stuff going on in the warehouse,
but we're recording a little blitzball. It's almost, it's almost that time of year, Treve.
God, when you come through the bat back in your hand, that natural, natural speed in your swing.
I got to get back on my game, coach. It hasn't been great for me the last two tourneys.
we've got
you watch a little bit of Jack Leiders debut
a name that we've been talking about for a little bit
I do love that we're at the part of talking baseball
where we're seeing like full prospect cycles
it's like oh hey at Leiter's kid's gonna be drafted
pretty good and now he's actually in the show
him and Volpey same high school team
a lot of action Trev
a lot of big topics
how about Tanner Hauke start
I see you, Red Sox, we love you.
Are the Mets?
Are the Mets real?
Let's start talking some ball.
But first, I have to tell you about a new partner.
Arena Club, card collecting, Trev.
You're in the game.
I know.
I know you are.
And sometimes it feels like a nervous game to get into.
How do you do it?
What do I get?
Arena club does a lot of the hard legwork for you.
So when you go to arena club.com, they got slab packs.
Bang.
It's a repack that provides real value and a complete view of all possible cards and clear hit rates for each one.
So when you buy slap packs on Arena Club, it finally feels like you know what you're getting.
I'll be honest with you.
I checked in with our team.
I was like, what's going on here?
I was like, is this the real deal?
They were like, yep.
So you can, if you want, you can get the cards and they'll hold.
hold onto him for you, or you can just get the cards and get in the game.
So a lot of you listening probably are already involved in this.
There's a whole world in this.
Trev was like, you were in the sauce.
What was that, 2021?
I felt like every-
I loved opening, I loved opening packs.
I would do it with Teddy, and it was just fun, man.
Still, do it.
A little family activity.
So whether you're buying, selling, trading, or displaying Arena Club is the card
collecting platform you have to check out.
And right now, you can get 10% off your first purchase by going to arena club.com slash talking.
Okay.
10% off a $400 slab pack.
That's 40 bucks.
Bang.
Math guy.
Anyways, that's arena club.
com slash talking 10% off your first.
Topique.
Let's do some National League ball.
It's Friday.
Almost Friday.
And Trev, a team that's been money, money, money.
The Milwaukee Brewers.
They get taken down by the daddies.
Their first series lost.
Padres going for the sweep.
Joe Musgrove and Dylan C.
Ew.
That's why you'd like the Padres.
The reason I've started to love the Padres,
Jackson Merrill is a guy, man.
Oh my God.
We saw both Jackson's in this series,
along with Fernando,
a little three-hit day in the middle.
Michael King, he's got a no-no going
in the third game after Musgrove and C.
they finally get the hit, they get the run, and they win one nothing.
So the Brewers, that's got to feel good.
You survived a series where San Diego kind of had your number.
Milwaukee drops their first series of the year.
How do you like that?
Cubsnakes Treb.
Know what I'm going to tell you about this one?
Give me five or seven of these in October.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, we had two.
Okay.
Two extra inning games off the rip.
Ben Brown is cruising.
Michael Bush only hits home runs.
That's just all he does.
Cubbies, they fight back in the night.
Nico Horner from second on a wild pitch to tie it up.
They get the RBI from Nico Horner in the 11th,
a pitch over his head.
Crazy game in the next one,
considered game of the year listed by snakes,
Van Dalton Feeley.
The snakes get it done, 1211,
Ian Hap, Grand Salami,
Ketel Marte, four hits.
Absolute chaos, pure back and forth.
And then the Cubbies, they take the final game in this series.
Balsy performance by Hayden West Nesky, who just got called up.
Counsel managing his ass off, Trev, give some respect.
Said it was the pitching performance of the year for his team.
Pirates played the Mets.
Pirates been playing a good brand of baseball.
But the Mets have been playing a better one.
Let's bust out the broomsticks.
Okay.
Harrison Bader with a couple big hits.
Know who's on this page?
Reed Garrett, formerly Red Garrett for us.
We know.
All he's doing is striking people out, Trev.
I think he's got the most strikeouts from a reliever.
What?
Mets came back in the first game.
Chapman got tossed in this one.
Nothing to do with that video of him before the season.
and Brandon Nimmo with the big final game.
Starling Marte with a big home run.
Okay, Mets.
Everyone had this.
Nationals take two out of three from the Dodgers.
They take down glass now.
Mitchell Parker's debut.
Sure, kid.
C.J. Abrams goes nuts in this series.
A couple homers in the sandwich games.
Mookie Betts goes off for five hits in the middle game,
and they win that game.
But Nats get it done.
Jake Irving.
shuts them out.
Nationals, I wasn't familiar with your game.
Philly sweep the Rockies, and unfortunately we've heard that.
How about their pitching treff?
Christopher Sanchez.
Ranger Suarez 9 shutpiece.
Yep.
Aaron Nola goes 7.1, and you kind of know the guys that get it done offensively for the Phil's.
Rocks.
Chris Bryant goes to the I.L.
We hate that.
And your final NL series.
The Giants take two out of three from.
the fishy. Giants take the bread games. Wilmer Flores adds on. They get three straight RBI
played appearances to take the lead in the seventh of that first game. In the final game,
Keaton Win and Trevor Rogers, Keaton Wynn lives up to his name. Outduels him,
young prince Tyro Estrada gets it done. In the middle game, how about Ryan Weathers just
punching tickets? Rise with a couple hits. But the Giants take two out of three and
Trev, that is what happened in the National League.
Nice job, Pops.
You and it happened to have the standings.
You wouldn't happen to have the standings that you remembered to do.
I always remember.
I was on a different page of baseball reference.
I do like doing the standings.
I'm looking at the guys they have listed.
JJ Hardy is one of the pictures on the front page.
I love that.
And an Orioles hat.
Great.
In the National League, in the East,
the Braves still on top because they are an absolute wagon even with some
injuries to the roster. They're 12 and 5.
The Phillies after the sweep, 11 and 8.
The New York Mets, we're going to talk about them
after starting 0 and 5. They are
10 and 8 people. The Nationals
8 and 10 in Miami, 4 and 15.
In the central, Milwaukee,
even though the series loss, they salvage it,
like you mentioned in the last day,
11 and 6, they top the division.
Cubs right behind him at 11 and 7. Pirates right
behind them at 11 and 8, and then CINC-9-N-N-9
and St. Louis. Allie Mar-Mall,
my guy. We'll talk about him
in a little bit.
He's, their 9 and 10,
excuse me,
at the bottom of the Central,
but on their way up.
And in the West,
the Dodgers are sitting on top,
12 and 9,
the Padres,
one game over 500,
at 11 and 10,
Arizona, your snakes,
Dalton snakes,
9 and 10,
San Francisco Giants,
8 and 11,
and the Colorado Rockies
are at 4 and 15.
Oof.
When do we actually
have to care about the standings?
Mid-May?
I would say it's a,
probably even a little bit after that because, you know, Juneish, Juneish, because then you start
thinking about, hey, are we going to add, are we going to sell, what are we doing? And even then,
that's really all you're worried about. I mean, the standing, it's just a long season, man.
End of July, we can start looking at, like, playoff races and stuff like that. But right now,
it's what's the vibe of your team? What direction are we headed? Hopefully we're staying healthy.
but the standings is a little tough for me right now still.
Well, it was beautifully done.
Did I say that?
Oh, thanks, bro.
I think you're really sure.
In the National League topic-wise,
let's do some Mets quick.
100%.
Mets, I think the stat I read after their tough start
and a lot of people were getting Metsie pretty early,
I think they're nine and...
They've won nine out of that.
10 and 3 since April 4th.
nine out of their last 12, something like that.
They're getting some efforts out of the bullpen.
Drew Smith got his first save of the season in this one.
They rally back in the first game.
Severino has a good start.
I'm seeing good numbers from Tyrone Taylor.
And when we do the TPPs, we always have a laugh when we get to teams like 13.
Because teams 13 through 22, we look at their rosters and we're like,
oh, dude, it's baseball.
Like if Severino puts it together for the Mets,
if Kintana turns into that quality start king he's been,
if Bader can be a four-war player,
hey, early returns, the Mets, everyone got their jokes
and they've been pitching a lot, the hitting's catching up,
and I don't know, you can kind of do a head tilt
when you look at that pitching in the lineup and be,
hey, if Jose, my guy Jose Butto, Budo,
if he's pitching like he's doing,
the Mets have some life, Trev.
Does he get just booty put on the back of his players week?
Do they still do that?
I think that's out, right?
I think it's been out for a little bit.
Maybe it'll come back.
I don't know.
I don't know if booty,
you know like the all-white ones?
I don't think Uncle Rob's lay on booty-by.
They messed up that one and it kind of went away forever.
Yeah, as soon as I did the all-whites.
All-whites for salt blacks.
Okay, okay.
Yeah, look, it's interesting with the Mets.
Obviously, you don't want to start over.
and five, but a nice turnaround here.
But it hasn't been a lot of the guys that you'd think it would be.
You know, Francisco Indoor has just had an abysmal start to the season.
You kind of hate to see it.
Same with, you know, Nimmo and Francisco Alvarez.
Those are some of the guys you'd, you know, offensively you're saying,
okay, these guys are going to be, you know, right in the heart of these things,
especially in a streak like this.
But it's been the auxiliary items, if you will.
And I think you've got to point to a little bit of David Stearns on this one.
It's kind of why you bring him from the Brewers.
over to the Mets.
David Stearns with money is kind of like
when you say the Dodgers or the raise with money.
Like give David Stern some times.
He's going to find some diamonds in the rough
and then you can go after players.
You mentioned Tyrone Taylor.
He brings him over.
He's been a huge piece for them.
A guy like DJ Stewart producing at the plate,
like he's been,
Jay,
DJ Stewart has a 932 OPS right now.
Okay, like he's getting the job done.
Brett Beatty's taking some really good at bats,
has had some big hits and some big moments for this team.
And then,
You know, your guy Joey Wendell's there.
Hey, hey.
He's there.
Like, these are all pieces that if,
Joey Wendell, if they get going, that helps the team,
especially when some of the starters that you'd expect haven't been there.
But really, it's been the bullpen.
It's been some of the starters.
You mentioned Severino with some great four starts there.
You've seen a lot of them in a Yankee uniform.
He just loves New York, apparently.
He's doing really well.
Udo, 0.75 through two starts.
And then, yeah, the bullpen's just really gotten it done.
So I think that's the biggest thing.
When you're looking at like streaks like this,
and particularly for the Mets, when you get a lead
and you have the ability to hold that lead,
okay, that's when you get the momentum.
That's when you start winning these series.
That's when you start getting that feeling in the clubhouse.
And that's what the Mets have been able to do.
And now we're looking at, okay, well, what if Peter Lanzo has been great,
but what if Nimo starts to go?
And what if Lendor starts to go?
And what if Alvarez is this power threat that we think he can be?
These are the things that can happen to the Mets and can propel them into, you know,
I don't know what the ceiling is for the Mets.
I think that's kind of a question for everybody.
Like, are they a World Series contender?
Like in your mind right now?
Like, I don't really have them there yet.
But definitely like a wild card playoff team.
Like they have that in them, Jake.
Trev, get to the dance, man.
You know, we can't always play the like Lugiduss
snakes last year because they they had a pretty fun young special formula but the Mets because I
mentioned I started off with standings when when should we really care I think one of like three teams
in baseball that really care are the Marlins so Marlins are four and 15 like it is not looking good
can that turn around sure it's a long season chip away whatever marlins made the playoffs
last year. So if you're the Mets and you're looking at that division, and Braves and Phillies,
they run it. But if the Nats are going to have a funky year, I'm buying all the Natt stock
for next year. I'm in on next year's Nattitude. I still don't know about this year. The fish
are sinking. A little water pun there. I guess fish just swim. I think they float when
they're dead. They die. They float. Yeah, pretty sure. The Mets could find themselves.
If you're above 500 at the All-Star break, you're in it.
So I don't know.
I think the Mets fans, they're a little nervous West Coast trip.
They're going to play the Dodgers and the Giants.
Six games.
Like a genuine goal is about three wins.
That would be checking the boxes.
If they do that, I think, I don't want to say Mets fever, but believing.
I think the Mets saw how ugly their start was.
everyone got scared.
They've done this now.
If they can survive a West Coast trip,
I think the Mets are going to be in the mix.
Alonzo's going nuts.
Contract year Alonzo.
J.D. Martinez should be joining the fellas after the West Coast trip.
So, like, there's a formula here, man.
Their back end, the names kind of look good on paper,
and they've been pitching well.
Again, it's what can you actually believe in for their expectations.
But I don't know.
like you said, GM's first year.
If they could get to the dance in the wildcard
where it was supposed to be a rebuilding year,
I think they take that as a win.
But I sangha.
Not there right now too.
So like you're getting these guys back.
And it's funny because we're talking about all these,
like we're talking about Tyrone Taylor.
We're talking about DJ Stewart.
And M.O, like I said he hasn't gone yet.
He's been productive, but, you know,
I think there's more in the tank there.
He's got a pretty hefty contract, right?
The thing is, like, this is the highest paid
team in baseball.
And we're talking about the auxiliary pieces that, you know,
don't cost much at all.
It's kind of like a funny thing.
I know there's some dead money there in some of these contracts.
But right now,
the New York Mets, man, starting pitching,
fourth in baseball with a 329 ERA.
So, like, they're getting the job done.
Like, if you're a Mets fan, like, all right,
you're feeling it.
After that 015 start, man.
Like, to be able to change your fortune
that quickly, that's got to feel good as a fan base.
It's a good feeling.
It's a good feeling.
You got to believe.
You mentioned, or we mentioned, and Pirates fans, I don't know, brush it off.
Chappie gets tossed.
Well, Pirates fans are not, they're feeling it because of what happened last year.
Hot start this year, hot start last year, what followed the hot start last year.
Now you get swept by the Mets and.
But you had that.
That's in your mind.
You had that first game.
You kind of had the last game.
And then in that middle game, Jared Jones is shoving our guy,
but he gets pulled because it was first time pitching on four days rest,
which I, looking at that pitch number, I was a little shocked,
but they're being careful.
That was maybe the weirdest thing we've seen in a while
because they said we were pulling him after the fifth inning,
no matter what.
The guy had 59 pitches through 50 of them for strikes, Jake.
So now it's not pitch count, it's innings count.
Like, I don't understand.
Can I tell you?
I'm with you.
I had no idea.
And how about Jared Jones?
I know we get biased to anyone that shows us love.
He got told he's on a short leash
and he threw 50 strikes and 59 pitches.
I'm coming at you.
Yeah, I don't understand the thinking.
I talked about a little bit on baseball today.
Like, I'm happy to have a plan.
Like any time a team has a plan,
because especially in this, what we're talking about here, Jake,
We're talking about arm injuries and nobody understands them.
Even the surgeons and the doctors that perform, you know, these surgeries, which are the surgeons.
Right. We'll call them.
They don't know what's going on.
So, you know, there's no right or wrong, I guess.
But to me, the 59 pitch thing is interesting, at least.
And we're seeing that kind of like what the Marlins have done with Max Meyer and
sending him down saying you're going to throw three innings every so often down in the minor leagues.
Like, I appreciate the effort.
I don't want to just bang on teams because I don't think that's right.
But, yeah, I wish we had just a set way to handle arms that would prolong careers and avoid Tommy John surgery.
We just don't have that.
We don't have any sort of process.
If we did, you, me, Beebbs, John.
We'd be silly rich.
Oh, you and us.
I meant this in general.
Because we'd be advising these teams.
The talking baseball advising firm, which is open.
And if any teams, Rockies, would like to reach out.
We're ready for business.
If we solve the pitching injury thing, we're good.
This is what they said.
And we're kind of getting off on a tangent.
But I read that the owner collateral ligament doesn't fully develop.
into your 26, similar to your frontal lobe.
Here we go.
So are we just going to hold these guys off?
You got to have kiddie gloves into your 26?
Like, I'm being serious.
Like, maybe that's the answer.
I was daydreaming.
Is there a future where...
Which is ridiculous.
Until you're 26, you kind of have to be like a bullpen guy,
and then we build you up.
Wouldn't that be a solution?
Guess what?
Nobody knows.
Nobody knows.
And you know what?
What's funny is we're seeing that all the time now.
These bullpen guys are going to...
the starting rotations and having massive success, at least this year.
It's crazy.
It's not even guys that were like, you know, multi-inning relievers that are clearly just starters
had and figured out like, Ronaldo Lopez, setup guy.
How about that?
Ronaldo Lopez, Jordan Hicks.
Renaldo Lopez, my God.
Kind of one of those guys.
He was a starter in the minor leagues.
And you mentioned Stearns running the Mets.
Milwaukee drops their first set of the year.
Michael King, bullpen guy, getting reimb.
restretched out and he has a great start.
It is the only game, the crew win.
Brew crew fan, let us know how you're feeling about your team
because a reminder, you guys know your team better than us.
You're going to lose a series.
If I'm going to lose a series,
seeing Musgrove Cease and what King did,
and then still scraping out an ugly win,
and they got the tying or leading run to the plate in the first game,
that's a sign of a good team.
That's a sign that you're fighting.
That's a sign that your team believes
and you're in every game.
You're going to lose series in baseball.
And they did.
And Trev, I mean, my biggest thing,
A, we get another Jackson update
and now Chariot has met both Jackson's
early on in this season.
That's nice.
Yeah, so that's kind of a flex from him.
And Jackson, Merrill, I'm a chips all in.
Sick gambling reference,
but I love, I love him.
No, he's a stud.
I mean, kind of all the Jackson's are stud.
Give holidays some time, people.
My goodness, the big leagues is a tough thing to conquer.
I guess we'll start with San Diego.
Yeah, I mean, that Jackson Merrill has changed, I believe, you know, offensively
the way that you have to approach San Diego, Luis Capuasono, the same way.
Like, these are some, you know, these guys, again, like, if you don't, you're not
counting on these guys coming into the season being, you know, some of your best
offensive players or lengthening your lineup the way they have. But when you get these efforts,
that's when teams go. You know, Bogart's hasn't had a great start to the season. For now,
Tatis Jr. looks amazing. I'm in on this Padres team. The Seas trade turned it around. But really,
I think it's Merrill and Seas together. And then what we've seen from King early on,
they look like a legitimate baseball team, like a team that could beat any team on any given day.
and I don't think I had that in my head, you know, going into the season. Sure, every once in a while you're going to beat, you know, the Nationals took a series from the Dodgers this year. That's not going to happen too often when they play. But I believe, like, legit the Padres, they have the roster to do it against anybody. So it's going to be fun to follow them. You know, you got to keep it up for 162. Then you get into the dance and see what you can do. But right now, my confidence level in the podres,
is pretty dang high.
Can I give you, you know, Jakey Man-Alytics?
Sure.
Padres are the number one team in.
Run scored.
Oh, I like that.
Why not?
It means something.
Why not?
That matters at a certain point.
Brewers, hey, a series of loss is coming.
Some weird Brewers, fun facts from Dalton.
They're on pace to have 76 starting pitchers this year,
which, again, I don't like that.
I think that's some early season,
funny money math. The record
is 24
shared by the 1915
Philadelphia A's and the
2023
Oakland Athletics.
Both teams lost over 109
games, so the Brewers who have been electric
we're going to have to start
covering some innings fellas
because right now the bullpen has
pitched basically as much as the starters.
Yeah, you don't want to see
that
also Brew crew crew. I mean, you scored
what seven runs in the series
over three games. No Kristen
Yelich. I mean that hurts that lineup
a lot. He was balling too.
When you got Yelly doing what he's doing in the middle
of lineup it's, you
game plan around it and you have to do
these certain things and obviously that's a
big blow. So I do agree, look,
you're going to lose some series. You salvage that last
game, but you've got to get Yelly back
in that lineup.
Treve, I think the
only other NL
one I think I want to dive
into for a minute because I said it was a little preview of hopefully playoff baseball.
Cubby's and snakes, man.
There are some spunk.
Sometimes those desert games can get going and that 12-11 middle game had it all.
Pure chaos to watch.
It was also the night we did our first draft Kings Daily Fantasy League.
A lot of guys in that game.
It got insane late.
I don't know, man.
Both these teams are hungry.
Like the snakes have the, you know, the kind of successful season but failed season, taste in their mouth.
The cubbies, it's go time.
And I don't know, man.
This had a scent to it of like a three-game wildcard series.
I hope we could get more in October.
But I don't know.
What would you see?
Well, obviously a very fun series, two extra inning games.
Game one, you see Michael Bush do his thing.
five games with a homer
hits it off Merrill Kelly. That was the only blemish on
Merrill's day. Chris Rose said that he thinks
the Arizona Cardinals, oh my God.
The snakes might have the
one of the, I think he said the best
one, two, three in baseball.
Here we go. If George Montgomery is who we think
George Montgomery is. Oh, I thought you were talking about the lineup.
No, Gall and Kelly to
That makes more sense, I guess.
I guess that makes sense.
Yeah.
Which is interesting to see you can't wait when that happens.
They got a couple guys coming back,
are coming into the rotation.
It'll be nice for the snakes.
The Nico Horner pass ball was awesome to watch.
I mean, that happens from time to time
where the ball just bounces and the catcher has no idea where it is.
Shout out to Nico for continuing to run hard all the way through.
I never had that speed people.
I wish.
I always thought, maybe I'll go two bases on this long pass ball.
Never did.
Just, you know, you're either born with speed or you're not.
didn't have it.
And then that second game was absolutely nuts.
I mean, the twists and turns,
Ian Hatt puts the Cubs up big with the grand stamp,
Cotel Marte, working at bat,
tying the game up, back and forth, back and forth,
before the debacks finally won it.
It was that fuck, wasn't it?
Grychick.
And I don't mean to call on that, people.
That's the Jake Storealli, Jimmy O'Brien thing.
That's a pet name.
It's a pet name.
It's a pet name.
We mean it.
we mean it with love.
I do want to say that game,
and this is a question for somebody that can find statistics out.
I don't think Bieber's ended up getting it.
I tried for a while to find this.
On baseball today, in passing, I said,
Kyle Hendrix versus Tommy Henry
is that the slowest matchup
of starting pitchers we've had in 20 years?
I don't know.
I just said it in passing.
Then I went back and looked afterwards
and I looked and at the time I looked it up,
Kyle Hendricks was in the first percentile
of fastball velo.
He's got bumped up to the second percentile
in fastball velo.
And Tommy Henry was in the fifth
percentile in fastball velo.
So like, can someone else find a slower matchup than that?
I would love to know if he could.
Were you drooling a little bit?
When I saw one, I was like,
oh, okay, I'm on this.
something here.
Then you got bumped up to two.
You know, I've gone, I'm a full anti-vilo guy.
So I'm all about that.
Well, now if you do, if you, if you're throw slower or you're throwing a sinker or you're
mixing your pitches up, that's old school, new school, you know, Ron Washington
communicating with his players, there's lots of reports, how, you know, refreshing
that is.
I'm like, what?
What are we talking about here?
Was there anything on research and development on that?
I know it was a tough ass.
It's a weird one to try to search for
Yeah
Yeah
If anyone can you let us know
I thought it was interesting
They didn't have great starts
Either of them by the way
In that game
Thanks Travis
And then the Cubs win the series
Five to three
Fought with a nice start there
But you know
The Cubs
The Cubs have some guys
That can beat you man
They really really do
And that I do agree with you Jake
Like that would be such a fun
Playoff series
Between those two teams
Cubby's half game back of the Brewers.
We talked a lot about their Fuego start.
They are right there.
And what if I told you this?
What if I told you a month ago
that on Friday night,
Jordan Montgomery for the Diamondbacks
will be facing off against Blake Snell
for the San Francisco Giants.
Love that.
I love it.
What a sport.
Couple NLS guys.
You did mention West Neski.
Yeah.
Coming in and four scorings in relief.
Yeah.
And the story behind that is you got woken up at 1 a.m. from his roommate in AAA,
said, hey, you got to get down there.
You know, tried to sleep on the plane, got no sleep.
Obviously, your adrenaline's rushing as you're getting called back up to the big leagues.
Awesome for that guy.
Yeah.
It's not an easy thing to do.
Hey, if anyone's, and by the way, it's a holiday this weekend, 420,
if anyone's late night, that giant snake series, that's line enough to be fun.
Zach Allen, Kyle, Harry.
Marrill Kelly, Jordan Hicks in the final game.
So get a, get ready for that.
I mean, hey, are you giving, I mean, Nationals.
O'y, good to go.
Nationals are going to get talked about a little bit later.
Okay, okay, okay.
How about it? Dodgers, what's going on with the second half of that lineup?
I mean, we all know what's coming, but it's.
You know what, when they mess around the lineup a little bit, it can get, it can get pretty top-heavy.
I think when they go A-A lineup, it's still pretty good.
Philly swept the rocks.
Yeah, you're going to hear some more.
Oh, we forgot to talk about that.
Christopher Sanchez.
Yeah.
How tall is he people?
You know, when you watch him pitch, I was just talking before the show,
and I said it kind of looks like a nightmare.
You know I don't like tall pitchers.
I said, how tall is this guy?
He's got to be at 6-4.
Baseball reference has enlisted at 6-1.
MLB.com has enlisted at 6-1.
There's no chance.
This guy's 6-1.
I guarantee it.
So if anybody out there has, you know, been around Christopher Sanchez
and could relay how tall he is, I'd really, really appreciate it because he's nasty.
All the baseball websites say 6-1, except something does pop up and say 6-5,
and he very much looks 6-5, so we're going to believe that.
Best pitching staff in baseball right now?
Red Sox.
But Phillies are looking good.
Phil's?
I don't know.
Interesting.
Interesting.
Trev, let's talk some American League ball,
and it's brought to you by the farmer's dog.

Bing bong.
Chris Rose's Guardians took on.
John Boy's Red Sox, and they, on the final day, make it three out of four in the Commonwealth.
They ruined the first game.
That was the day game, the 11-15er, the old Boston Patriots Day celebration.
Oh, my God, kid, you got to get down here.
Red Sox were shut out.
Their second time in four games at that point.
Guardians, they come back.
They win it in 11 the next day, 10-7 game.
While you're a brave flying around all over this series, sure.
Garrett Whitlock had to leave with injury in that second game.
And then we had the fastest game in the season.
We had the fastest game since Armando Gallagher is no-hitter.
Hour 44 minutes.
How about that?
Tanner Halk.
Maddox.
How do you like that, Traff?
Shutout?
Only needed a couple pitches.
And then the guard dogs finish it off with a 5-4 win today.
They got a good record.
Rangers take three.
of four from the Detroit Tigers.
Michael Lorenzen, how's your debut?
Five shut piece out duels, Reese Olson.
John Gravers, Casey Meisen, that second game,
Jesus was a Carrie Carpenter, your Trev.
Your guy, Trev, two hits in that one.
And then Adolese, sure.
Every series we could talk about him.
Jack Leiter debut game, how's 3.27?
Earnies, welcome to the show.
But the Rangers scored nine.
they win. Pretty nice to have that offense behind you, huh?
Down in Tampa, they split a four gamer. We got our first 13 inning game of the season.
Extras. I'm Ed Rosario with the walkoff in the 13th. Ryan Pepio. Hey, Pepe. Nice start to have
the Reyes win 2-1. And just a reminder, and we've said this a couple times, Mike Trout is still
Mike Trout. That's your Halo's update, man.
He's a, that guy's a sick puppy.
Yankees, I mentioned the Brewers lost their first series of the year.
The New York Yankees have lost their first series of the year.
Toronto Blue Jays, they kind of took it to them.
Really strong starting pitching from Chris Bassett.
Chris Rose rotation.
You say Kukuchi.
I say Kukuchi.
Yanks need a late rally in the eighth inning.
They come back from three runs down to win it.
they would have got swept.
Juan Soto, Trev.
That guy's different.
That guy's different in the best way possible.
Blue Jays win a nice series at home.
Braves sweep the Astros.
Uh-oh.
What?
Including a 5-4 extra inning game to get the sweep done for the Braves.
Their team, Marcelo Zuna, is leading the league in home runs.
Ron Lucuna.
Just got his first homer of the season, so watch out for him this week.
Astros only scored seven runs in the series.
They dropped to six in 14.
Third time being swept this season.
What?
We're going to talk about that a lot.
Speaking of sweeps, Trev.
Minnesota Twins.
They get swept by the Baltimore birds.
Cedric Mullins.
He's here, he's there, he's every fucking where.
walk-offs, diving catches.
Unbelievable, man.
You know Gunner Henderson had a couple two-hits day,
and then he had a three-hit day in between them.
Orioles get it done.
Pablo Pish well, but I don't know, Trev.
There's a little bit of a contagious, not-hitting problem going on in Minnesota.
Speaking of sweeps, the Seattle Mariners.
Hey, welcome back, Seattle.
Little slippery start for them.
They take it to my run.
Reds. They hold them to less than three runs in every game. Kirby, Gilbert, Bryce Miller.
All he's doing is getting it done. I think seven straight starts from the Mariners. That breaks my hitting analytics playbook.
And they get enough done offensively to get it done. Julio with a big defensive highlight in the middle game.
Cal Rally hits a big homer. Cal Rally. Cardinals take two out of three from Oakland. You might hear about
about a couple guys later from that series.
Sonny Gray returned, six scoreless against his former mates.
Lance Lynn had a fine start in that one.
Oakland avoids a sweep.
And then your Kansas City Royals, they win another series.
They take two out of three from the White Sox.
They end up playing a double header on Wednesday.
That that's a split.
Shout out to Eric Fetty.
Fetty Wop, 5.2, zero earn runs.
Vinnie Pasquintino's got a hit shot.
streak going. Michael
Waka pitch, good. Salvi Perez
went yard. Seth Lugo, former bullpen.
Seven innings. Zero earned, run.
Hey, that's what happened
in the American League. Give me them standings.
I need them. Give me a sec, Poppy. Way to go, man. You're crushing
it today. All right.
In the A.L. East.
Congratulations to your Yankees.
Tied with the Cleveland Guardians
for Best Record in baseball. They are 13 and 6.
Baltimore, right behind them at 12 and 6, Boston, Tampa Bay, Toronto.
All 10 and 9.
So the AL East is looking really good.
Now the Central, that's a different story.
I mentioned the Guardians.
They're actually at 13 and 6 right now.
The Kansas City Royals at 12 and 7.
The Detroit Tigers.
Well, I believe they are 10 and 9 now.
After the loss today, baseball reference is not updated just yet.
And then my Minnesota twins, six and 11.
Chicago White Sox, three and 15.
And in the west, the Texas Rangers should be 11 and 9 now.
The LA Angels 9 and 9, Seattle Mariners 9 and 10.
Oakland, 8 and 11.
Hey.
Hey, Oakland.
Hey.
Think I took your under.
I'm sorry.
Wasn't familiar with you guys game.
Paul Blackburn, more on him later.
Oh.
And the Houston Astros are 6 and 14.
their worst start in franchise history.
Treve, it's very easy for us, and thank you.
It's very easy for us to say the Houston Astros are going to be there.
I know their whole lineup.
I know they've got a bad man on the back end with some other help.
I know Justin Verlander is coming back.
That helps a lot too.
when can we actually be like whoa
what is going on in Houston
because if we're being honest it's not yet
like I think we all think we're going to get to the end of April
and be like oh Houston got a little hot there
maybe a couple games under 500 here they come
but six and 14 man if you don't do that
you've had an egg of a month that you need two great months
just to get out of
Well, I think people are going to say, okay, you said the Marlins, this means something already to them.
Why wouldn't it mean the same thing to the Astros?
They're in different, they're in completely different stages.
Seven years of championship series mostly?
Veteran players, contracts, all these things.
The Marlins right now, you know, they could look to trade, I mean, literally anybody.
So, like, they are in a different window here.
I mean, look, there's no sugar coating.
It's been bad for the Houston Astros.
You mentioned the offense.
the offense is actually going.
They're tied with the Orioles for the best OPS in the American League at 769,
so that's nice.
But they still have some guys that are underperforming.
Jose Bray, you bro, I got your back, man.
I know you came back hot at the end of last year.
You helped in the playoffs, all that good stuff.
But I'm looking at the numbers right now.
It's got an 078 batting average, an 098 slug coach.
We're talking about a 256 OPS through 57 ABs.
I don't know if the age is caught up.
I don't know what it is.
But that's not going to get it done.
But really, what's happened here is their starting pitching has been decimated by injuries.
They have a whole starting rotation on the IL.
And if it wasn't for Christian Javier and Ronelle Blanco, we'd be talking even worse.
I mean, these guys have performed excellent to keep them in games.
And then when they are in games, Jake, when they do get in these games and they have the lead,
they've only converted one save opportunity
in five chances, the bullpen,
which we thought would probably be
one of, if not the best in baseball,
has been crazy, crazy bad.
So for how many years have we been on this show saying,
you better have a lead
and you better continue to score against Houston
if you want to win,
because at the end of games,
they're going to shut you down,
their offense is going to go,
they're going to get to your guys.
It's not happening right now for them.
They're not getting the starch that they need.
When they do get the starts, the bullpen isn't there.
And the offense, as good as they, you know, have been OPS-wise.
I mean, they have been able to overcome that.
So right now we're sitting here at 6 and 14.
Did you say they've gotten swept three times already?
Three times.
Insaying all that.
It's too early.
We're getting Verlander back.
They said Framber is going to be back before the 27th,
which is when they go to Mexico to play.
So Framber's on his way back.
So now, look, if you got,
we don't know what Verlander's going to look like.
If you got Verlander and you got Framber and Javier,
and if Blanco, Combeo Blanco is like a thing
and he's a guy and he's going to do this,
then we're going to be okay.
There's no way, Jake.
There's no way this bullpen continues to do this.
There's just no way.
The guys are too good.
The backs of their baseball cards are too good.
Hater has given up eight earn runs in 8.2.
Presley has given up 6.2, or given up 7 in 6.2.
It's the walks, too.
How could you guys not take them into bullpen draft?
Somebody did. They didn't?
I don't think we did. I think that was one of our misses.
I think we got yelled after that.
We took everything else on their team.
You couldn't take them.
Here's what I'll say.
Obviously not hitting the panic button.
We could look up and laugh if Framber and Verlander are them
and Javier and Blanco are nasty,
and it's like, oh, do they have the best rotation in the AL?
I guess the only thing I want to look out for,
and even the fact that you mentioned
that they have the Mexico series coming up,
baseball, the momentum of baseball is real.
Like, I'm laughing right now.
Verlander's coming back,
and they're going on the road to face the Nats,
who they just beat the Dodgers.
Like, this Nats team is young.
They're having fun.
Like, Jesse Winkers hitting.
They're not having a bad time yet.
which they thought, if they were being honest,
they thought their season could have gone that way.
There was a team last year.
It was really good on paper, really good franchise.
The Cardinals just kept getting punched in the mouth.
If you're Houston, you got to shake that quick.
Because otherwise, you know, we did this with the Cardinals,
and it was May, and it was like, wait, their record's awful.
It's different.
It's Houston.
Coach, it's different.
Yeah, we've just seen it too many times.
I'm not talking about slow starts and them coming back.
Like, that's not their M-O.
But, like, these guys are too good.
And I don't think they're that old
where that's totally catching up.
There's just, I just don't see that.
And I got posed this question on baseball today.
Like, is Bregman, Al-Tuva, Tucker and Alvres,
the scariest four-hitters that you can face, like, when it means something?
Because there's some good four bag.
Like there's some good four player...
What am I looking?
Or compilations?
Like groups?
Yeah, you've been watching a lot of compilations?
What does that even mean?
Nothing.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
You can talk...
Okay, look, we got the Dodgers...
Nothing wrong with the top.
Mooky, Freddie, Otani, Will Smith.
Tough to argue against those three and anyone on the Dodgers.
And then the Braves and what they have.
Yeah.
But like for some reason, when I think...
of Kyle Tuck.
I think Yordon Alvarez to me is the X factor here.
I don't think there's any other person in baseball that I would say I'd bet everything on
this guy coming up big in a big situation.
I just, that's the guy that I would call personally in the biggest situations.
Now he had, he's had a World Series where he didn't show up.
There are, you know, like he's not perfect people.
It's not going to always do it.
But that's the one guy I'd point to.
And when you have him anchoring a lineup, like you're, I think that.
the team's going to be okay.
I'll do this quick.
It'll make some people mad.
It might make some people turn their head.
On Soto.
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
I don't know.
Those aren't two bad ball players.
They're not.
I'm not saying that the guys that you like are bad people.
I'm just saying the one guy that I had won up is your own Alvarez.
Yeah?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Depends the situation for me a little bit.
No splits. He just crushes everything.
I mean, I got no qualms with him.
That dude's a freak.
show.
Terrify.
Houston.
And by the way, the team on the other side was the Braves, who they have, you mentioned
OPSs, they continue to hit as a team at an all-star level.
They did.
I have it here.
They did.
It's ridiculous.
They lost Ozzy.
Ozzy Albiz goes to the IL, so they'll have to get through that, our guy, Guillermo.
They lost Albi, Sean Murphy's on the IL.
They lost Spencer Strider.
for a season and a half.
Jake, this team is, as a team,
it has an 842 OPS.
Yeah.
They're a waggon.
And they continue to do it.
And look, they're figuring it out.
You know, Bieber mentioned Ronaldo Lopez.
Like, that was a great signing for them.
Max Fried had it going his third start.
This last one was okay.
Like, there's room for improvement for this team, too,
which is actually really scary.
Treve, I think the other big one I want to hear,
hear about because it's it's
pats on the back and you might be hearing more about
Cedric in a little bit so
I don't know the Orioles are kind of
oriolesing that they're coming up
with big hits and big defensive plays when they need
it they will wear you out
they're pitching more than enough hello
Albert Suarez
not not super familiar
thanks for coming back yeah if I'm being
honest
Treve I think the
I guess the story I kind of know
the Orioles story I think they're going to do this
to a lot of teams, and maybe that can be what Minnesota can lean on a little bit.
But I don't, there's a yellow flag up in Minnesota, right?
I mean, they're not hitting at all.
I mean, at all whatsoever.
They've had some decent starting pitching.
The bullpen's been good.
They got got God a few times in this series, but really it's just come down to the hitting.
And can they survive a season with no Royce Lewis, would know Carlos Correa,
Buckson hasn't gotten it going
they probably can't
like they need like they don't have the depth
of some of these other teams
like they have to have their stars in their line at producing
it's great that Byron's played every single game
but you know when you're
they're just not getting it done
they're not hitting with runs and scoring position
they're just not hitting it in general
so things have to
they have to balance out
and they're not going to be this bad offensively
all year they're like they're like legitimately
the worst offensive team
in baseball, that's not going to be all year long.
So things will turn around, but they've already created a hole in the division.
The division seemingly has just gotten better overnight.
I mean, maybe that's just us not doing our TPPs the right way,
because some of these teams have looked really, really good.
It's going to be, I mean, for them to get in the playoffs,
as we're looking right now, that's going to be a dog fight coach.
When we thought this team was going to win the Central
and, like, they were probably going to do it, you know, pretty easy.
easily, you know, somebody might be nipping at their heels every once in a while.
That's just not the case.
They're going to have to scratch and claw to get in the playoffs whatsoever.
And it's just the offense right now is really, really bad.
30th and batting average, 28th in OPS, 28th in runs.
That's a little scary, man.
I wonder, do you hit a Brooks Lee button, their top prospect?
He's hurt right now.
Really?
He's hurt right now.
And, you know, look, there are some things they could have.
addressed this year in the offseason and they didn't really do it. They did shed some payroll.
They weren't sure about the Bally's situation. That was kind of the reasoning. How much do I really
believe in that? I don't really know. But it's yeah, it's not good right now in Minnesota, man. I'll be
the first to admit that for sure. I think the, I've got two pivot points off of that and then I'm
kind of good. Like, no offense, Cardinals or Royals, but eating Oakland and Chicago, like that's
not going to move a lot of needles this year.
Trev, for me, a couple storylines,
you mentioned the Central, and we've talked about this a lot,
but the Cleveland Guardians, they just take three out of four from Boston.
Their record is starting to look impressive.
It seems like on different nights they can tap into their pitching
or tap into some hitting, which that's nice.
That's nice to have winning different ways.
And then I guess piggybacking off of this
and whether you're a Twins fan, maybe a Houston fan.
The Mariners had a bad case of the not hit and not winning.
They put up a nine spot on Monday, five spot on Wednesday,
and they're pitching, which their team is built on,
has kind of hit another level where they sweep the reds
that they were hitting a pivot point of their season.
So I guess whatever you have on the Mariners bouncing back,
and Cleveland, you know, kind of,
of planting themselves back in the central.
Yeah, look, Mariners are still struggling offensively,
but the pitching has come around.
I think through like the second time of their starts,
it was pretty bad and some really, you know,
household names weren't performing.
Bryce Miller's kind of been doing it the whole year.
But, you know, the next time through the rotation they've had,
I believe, I don't have the numbers right in front of me.
It was like seven straight starts and six plus innings.
That's what you need.
That's what you need to get back.
That's the name of this Mariners game.
Julio needs to figure it out.
I don't know what it is with April's in him.
I don't.
Maybe it's just the cold.
It could be anything.
Sometimes guys are just notoriously slow starter.
So I believe in the Mariners.
I think they're going to be fine.
The pitching is just too dang good.
And I still like, I like a lot of their offensive players.
I think it's going to start to come around.
The sweep definitely helps that.
Cleveland, I mean,
they're figuring it out
man, Stephen vote as the manager
is he doing anything? Maybe
I mean, look, he's firing the boys up.
That's every single post-game interview
you hear from him is like, man, we're really fighting
every single day.
Doesn't matter what the situation is.
When our backs are against the wall, that's when we're the best.
And you mentioned they're getting different
looks. Like sometimes their pitching is coming through.
They're starting pitching hasn't been great.
I mean, the last couple,
like the last series, they got some good start.
like Hookie Carrasco, nice start,
but they've had some poor starting pitching as well in the mix,
and their offense has picked it up, their defense has picked it up.
They're scoring runs in different ways.
You know, they're really, really getting the timely hit.
I think that's the biggest thing with the Guardians and this fast start
is runners are in scoring position.
They're doing great.
If you look at Jose Ramirez's overall numbers,
you're not like super impressed with them,
but go look at him with runners on.
Like he's crushing the ball.
I think he's one dotting it with the,
in those situations.
So timely hitting, good defense, you know, pitching when they need to.
They're moving a lot of different guys around, you know, there's a lot of guys with, you know,
kind of similar amounts of A-Bs because votes just kind of mixing and matching.
So I guess that's something you can hang your hat on with him.
But they're finding ways to win ball games.
And even when your ace was off to an incredible start gets shut down for the year,
like they didn't curl up.
you know, they said, all right, we got it.
Next man, that mentality.
It's been fun to watch them.
Yeah, I'm interested to see that when the Yanks played Cleveland,
it didn't feel like Cleveland played their best ball.
So just from that sample size,
I want to see more from them day and day out.
And, yeah, Mariners.
I mean, that starting pitching, seven straight, six plus.
Like that kind of stuff doesn't happen in baseball anymore.
that take advantage of that, and they did against a good team in the Cincinnati Reds.
Everyone knows how much I love them.
And we talked about standings a decent amount as you crush them both times.
You know, it's so early in the season.
Like it felt like Seattle was like slumping through almost a month now.
You know, they're technically like a game and a half back.
If they went through three weeks of cold and they get three weeks of hot,
We could be talking about the first place Mariners.
So,
got to be careful with the early season over reacts.
I want to give a shout out to the Angels.
Shout out.
Shout out,
I believe he's leading the league and runs batted in.
Good for you.
Obviously, my child's doing his thing,
but their schedule has been like a gauntlet.
I know it's a little early to go on schedule watch here,
but what are they sitting right now?
They're sitting nine and nine, right?
They played Baltimore, Boston, Tampa,
and the Marlins, who they swept.
But the rest of those teams are over 500.
Yeah.
And the schedule is not letting up anytime soon,
so here we go.
Sincy, pretty good team.
Baltimore again. Minnesota, get right series
for anybody right now.
And then it's Philly,
Cleveland, Pittsburgh,
Kansas City, St. Louis, Texas.
They're facing all these teams
that are, it's a very tough
first month and a half,
a month and three quarters for this team,
but they're finding ways to win.
Stay in it.
Stay around 500.
Ron Washington turns around the Angels culture.
I mean,
put that man in the hall tomorrow.
Have you seen, like, all the things he's doing?
He's doing things.
It's hilarious because he's,
everyone's like saying,
oh man, like this is crazy.
You know, we're not crazy.
I'm thinking of the adjective
what people are using to describe
what Ron Washington is doing.
But really what he's doing has been,
he's been doing for what,
decades in the big leagues.
He's communicating.
He's leaving his little notes in their lockers.
He's making sure that he's seeing every guy, making you feel good.
And then he's going out there doing the defensive stuff.
Him and Ryan Goans are going out there.
Shout out Ryan.
And they're just working.
And like they, I believe they're like a top, you know,
two or three team in defensive run saves because of it.
They're just putting the work in people.
This is not like, this is not.
new-age stuff. Ron Washington's bringing it back old school. Communication and hard work,
just like protein shakes and lifting weights are all you need, people. Go back to basics.
Angels, hey, shout out, man, 500 with a difficult schedule. I really like it. Now, with the rest of the
offense, you're going along with Trout and Ward. That'd be nice. I like it. A little angel soliloquy.
Blue Jays, you took down my yank, snap for you. Oh, yeah, please talk about that. Don't shy away.
You made me talk about my friends.
That's fair.
I guess what I'll tell you again.
Bassett and Cacucci.
I've kind of always been a big Bacett guy.
Jom's always been a big Cacucci guy.
They shoved.
They kind of, they changed the tone of the whole series.
And Gossman had a bounce back start too,
which was big for them.
And then Toronto ends up losing the last game,
but their bullpen was semi-thinned out,
but they just added Romano and Swanson back.
So the guys that are supposed to be their ninth and eighth inning guys, they've been without.
They are now back.
I'm holding on to a little bit of Toronto stock,
and I'm just going to plant this out there because I've had the thought before,
and I just had it again.
Luis Arise on the Blue Jays.
It just, if the Marlon season keeps fading,
I forget if Luis has one and a half years or two and a half years.
But my God, they are.
looking for that left-handed bat at the top of the lineup to break up the righties
and he could play some second base in DH and Turner could play third like it makes too much sense
that I don't my my jakey whatever the hell's wrong with me is just like blaring like a rise to
Toronto they gave away Pablo Lopez to get him I don't know what Toronto will be able to
offer to make that like salvageable I'm very curious
Here's Addison Barger and Adam Maco.
Quick, quick, quick, real quick on this because it wasn't great.
Jack Lider, welcome to the show.
We've been waiting for this for a long time.
I was watching it live.
First batter, Riley Green.
I think he went one, two, three, all looking.
Case him up.
I'm like, dude, this is electric.
It kind of fell apart after that.
But shout out.
It was awesome to see my takeaway, more changeups.
from Jack. The change that looked really good.
Fastball's really straight. Really
straight. It's 95. It's 96.
I get it, but that's
what average in the big leagues right now. And if you're throwing it straight,
it doesn't matter. You were throwing all these sliders.
I think Kana was his, Kana was a second
batter. Slider, slider, slider.
I think he went three or four in a row.
And then throws a fastball to him and
just turns on it like that. That ain't going to get it done.
So a little bit of movement in the fastball might help.
More changeups.
I like that a lot.
The slider actually looked pretty good when it was located.
I think location is going to be air amount for him.
You can't just, you can't out stuff people in the big leagues anymore.
You just can't.
Not with the stuff that he has, at least.
If any of our listeners happen to be Major League Baseball's getting shipped off this weekend, Atlanta, Texas, in ATL,
Yeah
Yeah
Texas
Back at it
Trev let's go on
To the second half of the program
And it starts out with
Standout performances
Standout performances
Are brought to you by
It'll be nine innings
You like baseball
You're listening to us
Talk about baseball
And you probably have a phone
You know what?
If you don't
This isn't for you yet
But if you get a phone, or if you have a phone, MLB 9 innings, 24,
they got a ton of game modes from league mode to live PVP,
2,000 player cards to collect, up-to-date rosters, logos, ballparks,
unies, and even some of the historical guys.
How about Mariano Rivera, Cooperstown, Joe Morgan, yep, Bobby Gibson,
people call them Bob, Eddie Murray, Eckersley.
If you like baseball, you're listening to this.
If you have a phone, check out and download MLB 9 innings 24 today.
Click the link in the description.
Trev, I'll let you start with your standout.
It's a guy who's been mentioned a couple times for good reason.
Cedric Mullins, what a freaking series you had against my twins.
It all started off in the first game with that catch in the first inning, I believe it was.
My guy swerving Irvin on the mound.
Sorry, I think I had some kids yelling.
Oh, I heard that.
Nice.
I'm going to go give a knock real quick.
They're playing outside.
The catch was insane.
And I might have given him my stand-up performance on that alone.
If you haven't seen it, go watch the highlight.
Full extension.
He caught the ball.
It seemed like he was like four feet in the air when he caught it.
I like, I like diving catches when they're close to the ground.
But I like him way better when they're way high off the ground.
Just balls that you don't think he's going to get to.
He gets to.
He also had a homer in that game.
That was on Monday.
Then on Wednesday.
There's another one for four,
another homer.
This time it was the walk-off two-run homer
against my guy, Griffin-Jack.
Fastball down then,
just turned on it.
He knew it.
He looked great.
A hell of a series for a guy
that I believe is bad
in like seventh or eighth for this team now.
Yeah.
So shout out Cedric Mollins.
I guess not just a one-game standout,
but a series stand-out.
Congratulations.
And I'm going to go yell at some kids.
Go yell at the kids.
I will...
Get into Cedric for a little bit.
859 OPS, currently a 151 OPS plus.
BPD's got the catch on the screen for us.
And I saw this catch was so good at, like, left baseball.
I saw, I think the BBC was posting about it,
and now we got BPD posting about it.
Yeah.
Didn't realize he got vertical a little bit.
Yeah.
No, that's a real one.
And I know.
Oh, wait.
You showed them highlight.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, just real quick.
Click back on that.
Yeah, it's a tasty one.
Oh, it's a Kyle Farmer, too.
Trevor Plu-Fast swing.
Oh!
That's a tough out.
That's Kyle Farmer was counting that as a double in his bank account,
and that's tough.
He's entertaining.
He's one of Jimmy's favorite players to watch.
Cedric Mullen's,
and Cedric had some pretty clear splits last year
from when he was healthy to when he was hurt.
That, you know, if you look at Cedric Mollins last year,
160 games, a 101 OPS Plus.
That's not really who he was.
He was a lot better when he was healthy.
He's a lot worse when he was banged up.
And yeah, right now, towards the bottom of that Orioles lineup,
here's a guy making catches like that and hitting at a Pete Alonzo level,
basically, so far to start the season.
It's a great standout, Trev.
There's a couple pitchers that really,
could have gotten it.
We had two guys go Niner,
Ranger Suarez and Tanner Hauk.
Crazy snaps for you guys.
For everything we talk about pitchers
and not providing innings in length,
for Halk to get the Maddox
and Ranger Suarez to just be Ranger
Suarez. We didn't talk about
Tanner Halk? He was on the list.
We were going to.
We talked about, I mean, talk about them now.
I watched it. It was incredible.
I'd never seen someone
with command like that
with movement like that
yes he's throwing the slider
the splitter his fastball like he just
commanded everything
and and I mentioned this on baseball day
how do you command a splitter the way he was doing it
I think it's kind of a split change
so you get a little bit more of the seam
a little bit more friction on the fingers I guess
but the thing is dancing all over the place
and he was just all over the peripherals
can't say enough about the Boston Red Sox
pitching staff and what they've done
because you can go back and talk about Cutter Crawford
and his start to the year.
But Howick watching him pitch there was like,
seriously like nightmare fuel.
He just, he said it after the game.
You only have like that kind of stuff once, twice a season.
And for that, I mean, obviously once twice a year,
every couple of years.
He was dialed in.
It was really, really fun baseball to watch.
That's what I got.
They're pitching in Boston, first in ERA,
first in whip for starting pit.
Andrew Bailey?
Sure.
Are you the guy?
Are you that guy, pal?
So, yeah, I mean, I guess in a way,
Halk just got it.
And yeah, from the righty hitter perspective,
he is the nightmare.
So if he has that split change thing,
that if you can neutralize lefties,
that's kind of what he's been looking for.
Speaking of lefties,
my standout was supposed to be Kyle Schwerber.
Kyle Schwabber, two home run day at the office,
casual for him.
another lead-off homer, which is going to be funny,
the names he ends up with on the lead-off home run list,
because it's all these, like, long-time lead-off hitters
that took 20 years to get their home runs,
and Schwabber kind of got moved there a couple years ago,
and Phillies are like, just go set the tone, dude.
And he has.
And he had a quote, I think it was his 250th home run,
which we love that and snaps for that,
Schwarbs. But also, he had a quote that was like, they asked him about his 250th home run.
And he had some ball player quote that was like, I don't know, man, that's something for baseball
who talk about baseball to care about more than me. And, hey, Kyle. Here we are. Here we are,
but. So I don't know. We talk a lot about how much baseball changes and my
modern baseball and sometimes we don't like stuff, sometimes we like stuff.
Some of the Schwartor leading off for that Phillies team is perfect.
It's perfect.
You mentioned Hout being nightmare fuel for the way he throws.
Seeing Schwerber up there as a pitcher coming on to the new mound to start a game and just
knowing if you're not perfect, the ball's going 480 feet, it embodies that team a little bit.
As a manager, it's an interesting decision you have.
What do you want at the top of the lineup?
Do you want a guy that's going to get on base a lot,
see a lot of pitches to set your team up,
or do you want a guy that can give you one-nothing?
You know, Schwabber is a guy that's going to give you one-nothing.
And I think when pitchers get there, it's like, okay,
first pitch of the game, you can't,
you can just lay a fastball over the plate?
No.
It's probably going to be swinging.
I saw this with Brian Dozier.
Saw this happen all the time.
And then if you miss with your fastball
or even if you throw an off speed pitch,
which is kind of rare first pitch of the game.
But if you go down 1-0,
they are hunting your freaking heater
and, like, rabid dogs.
So it's a...
As a pitcher, it's just not fun when you see a guy like that.
Hey, give a single, whatever.
But get popped your first at AB of the game,
that's a whole different ball game.
Yeah, I think the number is 34 of those.
And I think the players he was listed with
with ball players to have 250 home runs in less than a thousand games,
if I'm reading that right.
Him, Judge, and Stanton are the current active players to do that.
So that's not a bad list.
It's not a bad list.
Trev, we could have talked about a lot.
Gabriel Arias, sure.
I see you, Cleveland.
Mookie had a five-to-hit day normal.
Cattel Marte.
like didn't say his name in the Arizona series, four hits.
He's been going nuts early on the season.
But let's bring him here.
Dirt nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
No, I don't like that.
Nobody does.
I don't like that at all.
Irresponsible people.
Okay, in Fuego, this is one of our favorite parts of the show.
I'm going to start it off here with.
this series and we talked about him a little bit gunner henderson you are he's an absolute stud i think
we are seeing like a corey seger like player in the making that's how good he is and if you don't know
how good cori seger is don't know why you're listening to the show welcome go check out his baseball
reference page gunner henderson went seven for 13 against my twins three homers five ribbyes
for a one point eight o ps he's homered in three straight
games for the second time in his young career.
He's going to homer in three straight games a lot.
His swing is electric.
It is powerful.
It is pretty.
I'd like to date his swing.
How about Atlanta shortstop?
Orlando, I don't want to date his game.
I'm happily married.
Everyone knows that.
Just want to throw that out there.
Orlando Arcia,
five for 10, double homer, five ribbies in the series.
625 average 1.6ing it in Houston.
And then Catelle Marte.
we mentioned the homer, but he also went seven for 14 with a double.
Two homers in the series, 500 average 1.5 OPS for the series.
Now for the week, you mentioned this guy too.
Jesse Winker, 11 for 23, four, two backers.
Scooter gang.
Two doubles, so yeah, six extra base hits in the week.
That's nice.
Only three runs driven in, but he did score six.
He had a stolen base.
He's recorded 20 hits in his first 55.
ABs this season with 33 hits in 166 AB's last year.
So he's off to a real, real nice start.
Feeling good.
Leading the NL and on base percentage early on, Jesse Winker.
Feeling good.
He was always a hitter.
Give me that all JM.
Give me that all JMA for Jesse.
Oh, my goodness.
Can't wait to record that app.
How about Dalton Varshow known for the defense out there, but he was six for 17 in the week?
Four of those hits were homers, eight ribbies.
He even had a stolen base.
353 average, 1.5 in it for the week.
And then Craig Himbril, 2-0, 2 saves, 4-nings pitch, 2 hits, no earned runs.
He struck out 7 in those four innings.
That is a nice way to go.
And then for the two weeks here, this is the list you want to be on.
People, I always say it.
And one of these guys we haven't even mentioned,
I don't think on the show yet this year.
Happy they were doing it now.
Rinala Lopez went three games, started 2-0, 18 innings,
pitched 11 hits, only one.
earned run. He struck out 18 in those 18 innings. He's a stud. Ranger
Schweris, he's been our guy on this show for a long time. 21
innings pitch. I just love when he feels a comebacker, namely. He's just the best at that.
21 innings pitched, only 13 hits, only two earned runs. He struck out 20 to three
walks in those 21 innings pitched. He's 3 and 0. He's got a 173 ERA, so the lowest ERA by
Phillies left you through four starts to start a season since you know who it is.
I could have guessed this too.
Steve Carlton hit a 169 in 1983.
That's a pretty good company.
Ranger, keep doing it, big boy.
And this is the guy we haven't mentioned a lot of.
Dallas Braden, he wants to date this one.
He really likes him.
And how could you not like him when you watch him pitch?
Mason Miller, five games, four saves, six innings pitched 12 days.
He can blow by you.
You think you could hit as fastball you can't.
103.
He's not allowed to hit over his last four appearances
and is posted a 9 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio
through those games.
And a big reason why the A's rate and 11.
Yeah.
Lockdown at the back end.
That's who in Fuego.
I love how much Dallas Braden is loving him some Mason Miller.
That's nice.
Well, he's got to find something.
Yeah.
Hey, they're playing ball.
dripping red on that
Oh, yummy.
I love all these graphics for bringing out Bebers.
It does.
Who would have thought?
Just a couple, you know,
you a pool boy from California.
Me, the son of two state
department workers in Connecticut.
BPD with the world on a string,
the golden goose.
That's here in the business, Beaver.
Here we are looking at Mason Miller's
baseball savant page.
Trev, a beautiful Enfuego segment, as always.
It brings us to the worst segment of the show.
The I.L.
Updates placed on the AAL.
Jake, how's your burger?
That's not going to help Miami's offensive woes.
Kiebert Ruiz with the flu?
Okay.
Saye Suzuki for the Cubs.
They'll feel that one.
Sayah's good.
Sayah's good.
Speaking of Ozzy,
We talked about that one a little bit.
Tyler Wells for Baltimore.
Yelly, Chris Bryant, you Darvish, whoa.
Make it stop.
Tyler O'Neill collision in that first game with Devers.
Whitlock, Eli, Moore.
That's a real list.
But I have good news.
Returning from the IL.
Our guy Bay from Pittsburgh.
Edward Cabrera.
I think he went out and threw really well.
Is it Zavion Curry?
His name starts out XZ, so I get a little nervous on that one.
Yeah, you got it.
Eloy's back, one of my favorites.
Michael Lorenzen, we talked about him.
Romano and Swanson in the back end of that bullpen.
Nick Senzel, sure, go nuts, gnats.
Haggerty, Ben Lively, your guy, right?
Yes.
Be Lively.
I might get that tattooed.
Came on to throw for the Guardians today.
That is the I.L.
A little too...
Did you say you might get that tatted?
Be lively, bro.
You're something else, man.
Weird guy.
Hey, was that dancing video recent
or was that an old one?
You've been doing some older clips lately.
We are social media team.
Slash, actually, I'll be honest with the people.
Ryan Cohen, who's popular on Padres' Twitter
and is doing some warehouse game stuff with us.
he's helping out with some social media accounts
so he's trying to boost me, Jimbo, some other stuff.
So we're just posting, man.
We can get him on you.
Yeah, let him get on me.
Actually, I was somewhere the other day.
See all your creepy DMs to all these young baseball players?
Yeah, there's a lot of those.
Really love your game, dude.
Keep it up, bro.
Someone mentioned, like, hey, I'm a Paudress fan.
I really love Ryan Cohen.
I said, I like him too.
So shout out Ryan Cohen.
His energy is tough to match
Tough to match
Yes
And that's coming from you
You always, yeah
You always wonder with those people
You know, is there a dark side in there?
You know, I'm pretty clear with mine
420 and some suds
But I think he's just a good guy
So that's the good news
Speaking of good news
Treve, we're going to start everyone's weekend a little early
Kelsey Wingnut is the best

I don't know.
Help.
You got an award, Trev?
I do.
And usually I got some gimmick with this award.
And I've done Tolkien baseball,
which may or may not get back into.
I'm interested in it.
This one's going to be straightforward, man.
We don't talk about this team a lot.
Because, well, frankly,
there's a lot going on off the field that we talk about more. I'm talking about the Oaklandais here.
Now, we talked about Mason Miller a little bit at the back end of the bullpen, and he's a reason
why they're 8 and 11. But like sliding, you know, or slipping through the cracks or, you know,
hiding, I don't know what I'm trying to say, people, basically non-existent in our world.
There's a guy throwing the ball at a record-breaking pace.
That doesn't make sense at all. It's not what I'm trying to say. This guy,
It's had an incredible start to the season, and we just haven't really talked about it.
And one of the things that we like to do with these awards is highlight guys that maybe aren't getting talked about a lot.
Did anybody notice that Paul Blackburn was going for the modern record of consecutive starts without allowing a run to start the year?
I mean, you obviously know, I know.
You knew it.
But through his first three starts, he hadn't allowed an earned run, started off against the course.
Cardinals, three innings, no runs. Okay, okay, they end up scoring against them. So he doesn't
break the modern record, which was, I believe the last time someone went four score that starts to
start the year was like 1893. So we're talking a long, long time ago, which is kind of a crazy
thing to think of that that has not happened. What I love about Paul Blackburn is he is a pitcher.
and I get excited when I see guys that maybe don't have the most electric stuff
have the success that he's had.
And listen, they've won all of his starts,
so they definitely would not be 8 and 11 if it wasn't for Paul Blackburn.
But Jake, this is, I talk about hitters nightmares a lot.
Those is cutter 20% of the time.
There's a change up, 20% of the time.
Those a four seamer, 20% of the time.
There's a slider, 17% of time.
a sinker 11% in time and a curveball 10% in time.
We're talking six pitch mix.
Every single one over 10% none over 20.
What are you going to do at the plate?
If this guy is locating, it's a guessing game.
You don't know where to look, what to look for.
You're going up there blind.
And when he's executing his pitches,
it's one of the more fun things to do.
And now you're saying, well, has he always had this type of success?
And the answer would be no, he hasn't.
But some things that he has changed this year, which I like to look at, you know,
has he changed anything in his pitch mix?
Is he throwing something more this year than before?
And yes, the sinker has basically gone down.
He changed that with his cutter.
Or, excuse me, his, the cutter is now his highest pitch.
His sinker was his highest pitch last year.
His sinker is down now to 11%.
It was at 24% last year.
So he's making that change.
So basically, and the reason I bring that up is he's throwing his cutter and his sinker.
Now those two pitches are moving away from each other.
You tunnel those two pitches.
They're moving away from each other.
But they're about the same speed.
So he's taken now, instead of throwing the cutter and the sinker, he's going cutter.
and the change-up.
So now you're getting that different speed variable
that he's throwing more.
And, you know, he's getting,
it's been a plus pitch for him.
It's made his foreseen fastball play up
because he's throwing that change-up more.
Like there's a lot of things that can happen
if you have that right-handed change-up.
And I mentioned that with Jack Lyar.
It looks really good.
You should throw that more.
Last year, his foreseen value
was negative three on the run value.
Those that change up a little bit more
has had a positive three already this year.
That's a counting.
stat. Go up and go down. But it's changed everything for Paul this year. So he's had an incredible
start to the year mixing up his pitches. And again, like, you know, I know we're not going to talk
about the A's a lot this year. But when a guy does something like this to stand out, we got to
highlight it. And if you haven't, you know, checked out one of his starts, watch him pitch.
It's a lot of fun. Even go check out just highlights of his game. When he's locating, it's nasty.
and you see guys take just bad swings because they're up there guessing.
Because what are you going to do against a guy like this?
You can't necessarily game plan for a guy like Paul Blackburn.
So no gimmick, I guess, no, you know, talk before the award.
It's just straight up.
Congratulations on a great start to the season.
Paul, hopefully maybe we'll be seeing you on the all-JM team.
Maybe if you keep it up, you'll be an all-star.
Things like this happen, people.
So congratulations, Paul.
I love it.
And if you are, you know, we brought up Mason Miller's baseball savon a little bit of go,
guys throwing 103 easy.
You know, sometimes the guys that throw a ton of pitches, Miles Michaelis, Chris Bassett,
sometimes their baseball savant doesn't look as pretty.
Paul Blackburn's does.
So, hey, I know we cover a lot on this show, but, you know, a team,
we talked about the Brewers are looking for innings.
I don't know.
Paul Blackburn, we think the A's.
A's of control left, too.
I think the A's are going to fade it sometime.
Paul Blackburn may be an important person to know on your squad.
So I love it, Treve.
I've never seen the percentages like that.
That was pretty sick.
It's nasty.
I mean, Sunny Gray is another guy that's kind of like that.
It's just can't game plan.
Trev, I love it.
And I think you laid it out Trev Paul Blackburn as your award.
I didn't have anything funny.
He had nothing.
And I barely do.
My award is what is in a name.
You obviously know I'm a classy girl that likes his Shakespeare.
And Trev, this is a little lame, but my name is Jake.
And I'm attached to all the other Jake's in the world, man.
There's not a ton of us.
There's not like Jake Gyllenhauls, like the one-one Jake, I think.
Like, I don't know, the Jake's...
Just watch Roadhouse, the new one.
We are here.
And I think there's more Jake's coming.
And speaking of, Jake Irvin, Trev.
Okay.
You mentioned we're not going to talk about the A's a lot.
We're not sure about the nationals.
That's just straight up.
I told you I'm buying national stock for next year.
Jake Irvin as a rookie last year, had a rookie year.
24 starts, 121 innings of 4-6-1 ERA.
Sure.
This year, four starts.
a 3-13-E-R-A, and he's gotten better each start.
At Cincinnati, five innings three earned.
Okay, it is what it is.
Reds are solid.
Against the Phillies, we talked about them a little bit.
Six innings pitch, four earned.
All right, whatever.
Your Oakland days, six innings, one-earn run.
Sure, good for you.
It's Oakland.
Whatever, man.
How about at Dodger Stadium?
the vaunted Dodgers lineup.
And this kid goes six innings.
Four hits, zero earn runs, six Ks.
Only 73 pitches to get it done, too.
Jake, we skipped over Dodgers Nats a little quick,
and you mentioned that.
That's because I want to talk about it here.
Go, baby Nats, go.
I'm all in for next year.
Let's have some fun this year.
But man, to stare down,
to stare down that Dodgers, at least top of the lineup for now,
even top-middle if you want to take out the bottom that's been struggling.
But Jake Irvin's part of the reason.
So shout out to a fellow Jake, getting it done against the Big Bad Wolf.
I like they were talking about the Nationals.
They got some prospects that are still on the way.
Now, I don't know if it's pitching that they have coming.
Jake could be one of the answers there.
I know it's James Wood, Dylan Cruz.
James Wood is a specimen.
Those two.
Dylan Cruz was the LSU dude, just raking.
So, okay, we got that coming.
I'm looking at the other guys.
I know Brady House, are you on the way?
Looks like a 20-25.
He's a third baseman.
We're going to find some pitching going on there.
I like that you highlighted this guy.
And yes, anytime you go into Dodger Stadium
and you're able to do what he did,
you deserve some snaps.
And maybe in an award on talking baseball.
Look at that.
CJ Abrams has taken another step up.
I love watching him play.
Kate Cavalli's rehabbing still, I think.
I already bought all the CJ Abram stocks last year.
That's fine.
It's gone.
I'm getting that stock.
It always blows my mind that second baseman,
Luis Garcia, is 23.
He's been just in the league playing.
Hey, how about it?
The beauty of talking baseball.
We talked about a lot.
Even the A's and Nats got some love.
They may not come later in the year.
There's a lot of Nats talk today.
Jesse Winker?
Hot.
Scooter gang.
Thank you guys for tuning in.
Let us know in the comments.
What'd you like?
Who deserves some more love?
Because we just want to spread love.
It's a Brooklyn way.
You know?
Jigsaw.
Stink.
Cardinals fans.
I already apologize to Oli Marmalt.
He's my guy.
You know that.
Five minutes I took on top.
Talking baseball to apologize to this guy.
Thank you, Kyle Gibson, for showing me the light.
Team Alder.
Cardinal fans, you won't care about this.
Hit a nice little parlay on the Cardinals Tuesday night.
They don't care.
They won.
That was part of it, so they like that.
Go to the rooster and get a nice brecky, okay?
