and was like old but kind of like running. He played for the Yankees. Oh my gosh, for 74 games. Oh, no, that's not true. There's more seasons there. Okay, so you do know him. Yeah, Mickey Rivers. I didn't know.

Yeah. I just picked him out of the blue. No, he's, yeah. He was Miami before Miami was probably like Miami. Oh, like that. Yeah. Drafted by the White Sox in the first round of the 68 draft, in the eighth round of the 68 June secondary phase draft,

the Washington Senators in the first round of the 1969 draft, and the Braves in the second round in the 1969 secondary phase draft. What does all that mean? I don't know. I don't care. Mickey Rivers stud fast. MVP 3 and 76. Not bad.

And if we're doing the National League, you've got to talk some Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals because they teed it up for a five. banger and the Brewers took four of the five games. Kyle McGreevy held him off in game four with 90 pitches and some Jordan Walker. But Trev, it's brew crew season. A ton of pitching. Mizorowski, Drone, Bobby Gasser, Logan Henderson.

That's how the Brewers get it done, man. They've dominated St. Louis this year at one point. They won seven straight games. against St. Louis in this season. Dominant. Bryce Terrang showing up in a lot of the box scores. Jake Bowers, having an amazing, amazing first half. Brewers take four out of five. The fish sticks live on.

They sweep the Seattle Mariners. Wow. Jacob Marcy with the walkoff in that first game. Tyler Phillips in the bullpen shut them out in game two. And then they knock around Bryce Miller. Don't leave that splitter up to Otto Lopez, bah. Because that's going to be a two-run triple to open up the game. They're real.

Miami is in Fuego. The Diamondbacks and Padre split a four-gamer. Eh, eh. Both of them have the record of 46 and 47. Eh, eh. Mani Machado is about to have the lowest batting average for someone on pace for 30 homers. Eh, eh, eh. That's all I'm...

Max Kepler's back in homering. Trev likes that. Although, uh, cleanest guy in baseball. Max Kepler. Roll your aurs when you say Anduhar. I don't know if I care about either those teams right now. I do care about these two teams. The Braves take two out of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates win that first game, known as the Ryan O'Hern game. Might hear more about his 10 stakes coming up, uh, an all-time performance. But then it's Braves the rest of the way. Joey Bart Redemption series, as he's now in ATL against his former mates in Pittsburgh, and then the Braves win the series. A fun final game that, yes, Yostremski hits the grand slam in the ninth to open it up, despite Jake Mangum's best effort.

Great name. Got to talk about him more. Mangum Condom Studios. The Nationals take two out of three from the Astros. First game, as electric as it comes. these two offenses, 12 to 11. Houston looks like they're coming back. Bryce Matthews.

Sure, Braden's shoemake. It wasn't enough. They win that second game, but a tremendous bullpen effort for Houston. But then Foster Griffin, we talked about him, and he went out and he did it again as they take the series from Houston.

Dodgers and Rocks played a fun one. My goodness. Extra innings in that first game, Dalton rushing thinks I'm lining is my pockets somehow from him. I'm not. I'm broke, Dahl. He gets the walk-off hit in that first game. The Rocks hold him off in game, too,

and then the Dodgers win a one-run game. His name is Mookie Betts. I say, Poppy. Can he play baseball? Dodgers take the set. Those Phillies, can't wait. Can't wait. They take two out of three from the Reds, and it's kind of obvious.

Wheeler and Lazzardo shut him down. Kyle Schwarber's 3-0 Homer, one of the calls of the year, maybe. Duran shuts it down in the pitcher's duel in that final game. Phillies take the set in our final NL series. Of course, it's the Blue Jays. They take two out of three from the San Francisco Giants. Elliot Ramos and the boys put on a big effort, scoring 10 runs in that first game.

But then it's Blue Jays, rest of the way, they score 9 and 10. And Dylan Cs? No, no. into the ninth, sorry. But they get the win. Dalton Varsho made plays all over the place. Okamoto driving in runs. That's what happened in the National League.

John Schneider was some good quotes there about the no-hitter. Okay. Get Cody Clemens to the All-Star game, John. If you want my respect. I got the standings, Pop. I got the standings. I think I want to start out West today since it's Friday, where the Dodgers have a 14.

and a half game lead 61 and 33 for them on cruise control. The 14 and a half game lead, well, that's over both the snakes and the Padres, who are 46 and 47 as you so eloquently put during your burn. The Giants, wow, 39 and 54. Colorado, wow, 38 and 57 in the central. We thought this was going to be tight, pa. We thought it was going to be tight.

It's not. It's just not. Seven game lead for the Brewers, 59 and 34, for them. They do it every year. This took four out of five from the Cardinals. Crazy. The Cubs, 52 and 41. Their seven games back. Now

the Cardinals, 10 and a half at 48 and 44, Pittsburgh and even 47 and 47. And then Cincinnati falling and fallen fast. 42 and 50 for them. Out east, there's been a shakeup. The Braves, everyone thought they were going to run away with it. They've been playing some pretty bad ball as of

late, 54 and 38 for them. Still nice looking record, but they've, they started to go the wrong way. The guys that are going the right way. The fish, the fish sticks. 52 and 42 for them, only three games back tied with my Philadelphia Phillies. The Nationals, 48 and 46, and then Jolly's Mets, 40 and 54. In the National League, wildcardi, it would be Chicago with the top spot. Then Miami and Philadelphia tied for the second and third spots.

St. Louis, three games back of them. Washington four games back and then Pittsburgh five games back so a little bit of separation happening in that NL wildcard race so if the playoffs started today it would be Atlanta and between

either the Cubs or the Marlins or the Phillies right? Yes I think I don't know if it's tiebreaker it currently has the Marlins below the Phillies but tied so in theory I believe it would Chicago will play the other team of those two teams those are the standings in the National League

How about the NL East showing up without the New York Mets, who we thought could be a powerhouse team this season potentially? And yeah, Triv, I'll be honest, it was the first time I looked at the NL playoff standings and with my new acquired taste for fish and what's going on in Miami, because I think they're real. I think it's so real,

even though they just lost Owen Casey again. Winners of six straight, eight and two in their last 10. your NL playoff teams, there's a chance this is it. Like the Phillies, the Cubs, the Braves, the Brewers, the Dodgers are... Yeah, there's a chance. It's too early. It's too early.

I know. But I guess I just want to tell the people that's how much I actually believe in the Marlins. Because the way they are playing right now, the lineup is relentless. They're getting high-end pitching efforts. And I'm looking at the teams behind them, and it's like Cardinals leaking oil. Nats have kind of been the same story.

My pirates, as much as I admitted, I like them. They lose Connor Griffin, the reason that I said, like, I kind of missed on this team. And then, dude, the D-backs and the Padres right now are doing nothing for me. With all of that, let's talk about what's doing something for me. Beers, the brewers. Oh, yeah. Four out of five, man. And, Trev, I, again, there's almost a board side that comes out of it,

but like, dude, Shane Drone, I just had to look up, like, am I saying his name right? Because I'm, you know, not super familiar with the guy. He gives him 7.2. Like, that's, we don't see starting pitchers do that. And then earlier on in the series, they get an effort, or that was game one, excuse me. But like Robert Gasser, it's guys we almost forget from the brewers or guys that are right in the bus sometimes for them. and they still get the same effort somehow that puts them in position to take four out of five games

from a good divisional opponent. This just kind of shows the separation of, I mean, honestly, talent on the field, up and down and kind of different types of ways to win for the brewers. You mentioned the guys. You mentioned Mizorowski in that because you have other guys doing things that you want to highlight. How about, you know, young Cooper Pratt finishing a Homer

try of the cycle or another 21-year-old Luis Lara coming up, he drives in two in his debut. And it's like they don't need new toys. They don't need new toys, but they continuously are able to bring guys up that know how to play the game, to play the game kind of their way. I don't want to call it the Brewer way, but you can say that. You know, they got up and down the lineup, and especially in this series, if you kind of like look at, hey, who had the big hits or who helped them? You mentioned the pitchers.

I mean, you got the guys like David Hamilton. Yeah. He tweaks his hamstring minute bat still hits a double. Obviously, Bryce Terang's piss, he's not an all-star. He has the go-ahead two-run single in game one. And it's just up and down the lineup. They're able to do it. And that's before you get to the starting pitching.

That's before you get to the bullpen. They're just such a complete team. They don't make mistakes. And you take four out of five from a divisional opponent. I mean, it's like, it's hard to do. Yeah, man. And this reeked of like what the Brewers do to the Reds. They're just like a little better and they win the game.

And I mean, some of these Brewers numbers, it's a historic first half for them. Like I believe with that last game, they locked in their best ever first half in Brewers history. And it just feels like they're constantly adding seven through nine hitters in this five game set. The Brewers, 18 of 54, that's a 333 average. Cardinals 7 through 9, 4 of 51. That's an 07-8. We've talked about the importance of flipping the lineup, and it feels like there's going to be some analytics thing

that comes out one day, how important that truly is. The brewers have that, whether it's the matchup. And I'm glad you mentioned Luis Salara, because we got an all-story eleic team guy, 57-170? It's just what they do. It's them and the guardians going after the short guys.

Short guys that can play baseball in the sport where everyone, it doesn't matter your size, you can play baseball. I mentioned this on the broadcast because I was watching some clips online and Dustin Projoia came up and I click on Dustin Projoya videos. I just do. And he was talking about like before he got drafted talking to another, he said he was talking to an A.L. East Scout would it name the name? Nice.

He goes, I raked against this team. He goes, actually I raked against every A.L. East team. So I'm not really giving anything away. He's just the dog. He goes, so you're telling me if I was, this much taller, I'd go in the first round. Right. And that is, that is the problem, or it's the beauty of the sport, but the problem that used

to be. And I don't think we're seeing that anymore. The smart teams are like, okay, I don't care if you're 5'9, 510. Like, can you put the bat to the ball? How are your eyes? Like, can you play defense? Can you run? We'll figure it out.

Like, those are the smart teams, man. You can, you can. I mean, Rob, just run that, run. this play. This is Luis Lara up, his first Major League RBI's two outs, one run game, base is hucked. Yeah, get to that three hole. We got a runner going first to third.

Like that video is so Brewers coded, it's disgusting. And yeah, I've seen, and by the way, you know, Cooper Pratt, we talked about him getting that contract extension. Luis Lara is one of those guys. Seven years, 31 mil. So like, 21 years old,

Brewers believe in that cat. But yeah, they're adding to their recipe as they beat up on the Cardinals and the Cardinals. Like I said, Alec Burleson almost hits the furthest homer of the season, misses by one foot. That's the game they do win. But yeah, the Cardinals have lost a little bit of momentum. Jordan Walker, 73 runs driven in already. Holy Snikey. Can't wait to see him in the homerun derby.

But yeah, 10 and a half games back in the division for the Cardinals. is got miserowski that's a nice one off the big mac land yeah that's fun that's fun he's a he's a big boy um yeah derby's gonna be go caminero ben rice my guy tegleone no philly put schwarber in at the last second maybe whoever wins gets to go against schwabs i don't know didn't you see they dom madingly basically admitted that that was going to happen oh i didn't see an accident Whoops Yeah, Bob Get that video up

We'll see. We'll see. Trev, we're talking a lot of Marlins, Poppo. And it's because they're amazing. They get the walk off in that first game. Otto Lopez, who we both highlighted, him and Xavier Edwards of guys that we want to know more about. Dude, this was going through some Mariners stuff,

their fans were like, we're not surprised by this result. And I think if you're a Marlins fan, you're not surprised by this. They're 10 games above 500 first time since 2023, 26 and 8 since June 1st. And they're every fat, I mean, to have that record, every facet has to be operating. And they are, man. I'm, I'm in. I'm all in. They're another team up and down in lineup.

You know, they have their main cog at the top, but they're getting, you know, performances. We talked about how much the 7-8-9 does for a series or a team when they get going hot. And then to be able to do this against, look, a Mariners pitching step is very, very good. Very impressive. But yeah, you mentioned Jacob Marcy getting to going. You got Kyle Stowers, four straight games with a homer. You got Edwards and Lopez up the middle. It's just, it's a lot of fun to watch this team go. And now they've actually come out and said, which is pretty obvious. 26 and 8 since June 1st, best record in all of baseball, we're not trading Sandy.

Make me look to be very strategic at the deadline. Of course, like you can't be in a playoff spot and say, yeah, we're trading guys away. So everyone that thought they were going to get Sandy or Yuri Perez or whatever, like it's not happening because the fish are for real. The fish are for real, man. And I can't. We love, we love Miami having a good team.

We do. World baseball classic. We were there this year. That was this year. Yeah, I mean, they're going to be, they lose Owen Casey again, which he was getting back into form and playing really well, so let's see how that feels. Yeah, man, like they can use an inning eater maybe at the end of that rotation.

And again, like we thought Sandy would be the guy. We thought Scoobel would be the guy. Right now, not sure who the guy is going to be, because, you know, not to get ahead of ourselves with the Tigers, but tigers, Red Sox, and Marlins are the hottest team in the sport right now. I want to look at Phillips' game long.

I know they're trying to build him up. He's built up, right? So he went six against Texas. He went seven in a third against St. Louis, both quality starts. Then he got roughed up a little bit in Sacramento. Don't even count that. Illegal.

And then here he goes five, uh, shuddy. against Seattle. So, I mean, hey, man. In my mind, he hadn't been built up that much, but he has been.

So now you're looking at Sandy, Yuri, Max, and Phillips, who's been really, really good. Yeah.

Okay. Yeah. And like there's, you know, whether we're talking a three-game wild card, which we just tease, like,

okay, Sandy, Yuri, Meyer, well, Tyler Phillips, little, they got it, man, and they bang the ball around.

Otto Lopez with a club record, 127 hits before the All-Star break. That beats Luis a rise in 2023. Liam Hicks, he was kind of the early on guy for this team. He's still there, just chugging along. I guess the other story, Trev, the Mariners, what a flat first half.

actually I have it up right here. Twins. No, no, no, no, no, no. Or Toronto. Like, who do you believe in? Right. More, like most out of those teams. I said Seattle because I'm like, look, like the guys that are struggling offensively,

I feel I can flip a switch. Now, Mariners fans are probably saying, no, they can't, and then they just haven't. Like, Josh Naylor's been bad. Cal Raleigh's been bad. Like, do I think those guys, if they got into the playoffs and sell zeros on the board and like the bright lights came on, would they show up? Like, there's a chance. But until they get going, yeah, it doesn't matter what your pitching is doing if

not scoring runs. I mean, the offense has been tough for them. Yeah. I mean, they're 25th and OPS, 26 and runs scored. They finish at Tampa. Tough, tough plays in that I think if they're being honest, like they're waiting for that All-Star break and kind of like, let's try this again because it's, it's been clunky, it's been disconnected, and it's in an ALS, the Texas Rangers are on top at 47 and 46. I don't know, man. It just feels like they're walking a tight rope

But at the same time as we're watching the Red Sox reemerge As we're watching the Tigers reemerge Like, we know it's in there They know it's in there They just, they need a couple balls to bounce the right way So they start believing again But the other side of that is if you come out of the all-star break And a reliever has a bad day

A ball hits the bag when you don't want it to Like those dark thoughts can start creeping in again I mean, they're one of the most disappointing teams in baseball, and nobody's really talking about it. I guess Mariners fans, maybe. And they're still, look. Right. They're in the playoffs.

They're in the playoffs as of right now. I know. It just feels so off. I'm still a believer. Good. Let's see. The rest of this National League, Coach Rev. I mentioned DeBax Padres.

I was making that weird noise. on the way through and I kind of hurt my throat, if I'm being honest with people. I don't know, dude. Both these teams are 46 and 47. And an NL that's not the AIL, so they don't get the Mariners like, hey, good things are happening.

This is probably going to be fine. In the NL, I don't think they're going to be fine. Are you giving up on, you're giving up on both of these teams already. Look, what I've seen from the Diamondbacks is they have, an offense that can get going. They have some fun players, especially towards the bottom of their lineup,

that I think, you know, if they produce, um, there's enough with Carol and Marte and Pradoe and Prado kind of easy to go in as well. But there's, there's still enough in that lineup to get excited about. It's just that I don't think they have the pitching to get it done. There's some,

there's some good arms in that bullpen. Zach Gallen continues to get just absolutely smashed. Um, Merrill Kelly had a good start in this series, but I don't think they got the horses to really keep up, especially in that starting pitching staff. You'd probably say almost the exact same thing for the Padres, although I don't believe in that offense.

I feel like I believe in Arizona's offense more than the Padres' offense at this point, and that's not saying a lot. Yeah, man, like I'm looking at the dimebacks right now at one point, at one point they were 31 and 24. Like it looked like things were developed. We're seeing them get guys back. I mean, now they're sitting here 46, 47, and Padres are kind of the same story. Like, both these teams got out to an all right start.

And now it just feels like it's going the wrong direction. And everyone's looking around kind of like, what are we? Like, I hate to be rude to my snakes, but it hasn't felt like they've actually been a part of the picture in the NL this season. And maybe that's root because the other teams, maybe we had higher expectations for them. the Padres were and then we did the same thing for about three weeks where we're like, yeah, they're winning. That bullpen's good, but everything else not. I don't know, man.

Yeah, I'm, I'm, it's hitting that time. Summer's getting hot. We're in the All-Star break. These teams got to show something or, you know, pick something up for next year. I don't think either of them have the horses to get back in it. I really don't. That's what I'm saying. I guess the exercise that I was saying with the standings before.

If the Marlins are legit, which I think they are, I think their record, the 28 and 6 or whatever it is, 26 and 8, obviously that pace isn't sustainable, but they are damn good. So like if you respect the Phil's, if you respect the Cubs, Braves, Brewers, Dodgers, we're running out of seats at the party, man. And like those teams are playing an uninspired brand of baseball right now. that, hey, Fernando, play like an MVP candidate. Corbin kind of does, but Gabriel Moreno's been great this year.

He's been great. I didn't fully realize that, but I don't see it. Brandon Faud is starting games again. He's had a couple nice ones. Stop going over his head in the wind-up trap. There you go. Hey, sometimes you need it. That's it.

How many more starts can they give us that gallon? Ooh. Here's the game log. Last four starts against my twins. Four innings, nine earned runs, six and two-thirds innings, five earned runs, five and two-thirds innings,

six-earned runs, and then six innings, four-earned runs. Overall, in the year, it's a six-three-four with a one-five whip. We love the guy. Love the guy. It hasn't been there.

It hasn't been there. Hasn't been there for either of these teams. Braves Pirates, I know you're going to highlight. Ryan O'Hern is going to get his own segment of this show because what he did three-home or 10 RBI game in that first game. Again, Jared Jones, this one kind of got overshadowed. He was perfect through 77 pitches. He gets pulled, which, you know, that was a hot topic around baseball this weekend

between him and CIS and how are we managing all this. Yuri Perez. he has had some significant injury, so it wasn't really, that no one was really beefy about it. There's something that just doesn't feel right, and he talked about it, but he was also like,

yeah, it's the right thing. Like, I've been heard. I'm on my way back. I can't be doing that. I think the Bray's really needed this, coach, because you come in here, limp in a little bit. Pirates, you get the O'Hern

and the Skeen's game in game one. And then Jared Jones comes out. It is perfect against you. then who's the guy that gets them up in that second game. It's got to feel good. Joey Bart. He traded them away three weeks ago. So he's as the Tour and Homer in the 8th.

And then even that last game, just icing it like that the way they did with Mike Yeshemski-Semschemschi at the end. I mean, I think they really needed this series. So Braves take the momentum. Pirates that do feel like are kind of going the wrong way. And now without Connor Griffin for a while, six to eight weeks. Yeah, man.

Like, he out. He's out. We're running out of weeks in the season. A couple guys that need to be highlighted. We've debated doing just like a highlight the studs in the league episode to show everyone how good they are. Matt Olson, 740th straight game that ties the Braves record by Dale Murphy, not too shabby.

He also hits one into the Allegheny that game because that's what he does. Yes. And then, Trev, we have a new, I think, and baseball celebrity we need to talk about. The Braves called up a fella, the little alliteration, Jim Jarvis, playing some shortstop. The lettuce is flowing.

Like, it was a happy talking Yanks last night because it was,

we expected, we kind of expected the race to win three or four and almost bury the division. Yanks survive. Yeah, man, it's just a lot of talk of what can they acquire and how can they make this team better and when can Judge come back. The raise, McClanahan was awesome. I hadn't seen him look like that in a little while,

just like against the Yankees. And the rays, man, it's that high testosterone. They were playing these games to try to bury the division. And you saw it. There's a lot of fist pumps for the catcher and Jonathan Aranda with a big double and his chest flying around. It was fun.

The Yankee strikeouts are kind of crazy. I do think that got overblown just a little bit. Like one of the big strikeout games, they had 11 hits and like the offense kind of looked good, but they did strike out a lot. So I don't know. They're still in the bad place. Rays are good.

I think that's all I have to say about that. All right. I'll give my Guardians twins talk. Great. The people just can't wait to hear. Can't wait. Guardians kind of are who you think they are without Jose Ramirez. Not a ton of offense going on there.

Let's talk about the two teams that are becoming stories in the American League, that we thought they were going to be stories in the American League, and then they weren't. The Boston Red Sox kid. They are hot. Winners of six in a row. Every day it feels like they are now getting that starting pitching effort. Totally has full on broken out. Jake Bennett is unhittable.

And these socks, man, Raphaela on both sides of the ball, Caleb Durbin has made those swing adjustments and he's contributing. Like, again, if you covered up a lot of the numbers and you saw the Red Sox are two and a half games, out of the playoffs, you got to respect that. And there is a long part of this season where we did not. It was weird watching them struggle so much because they did have the starting pitching staff.

And they did have Aralda Chapman at the back end of the bullpen games. And they do have this outfield defense that can run balls down like they do here in this series. It's just like they weren't getting anything from that lineup whatsoever. We talked about it. Again, I hate to keep doing this, but Mickey Gasper shouldn't be in the middle of the lineup, man. Come on. Come on.

And that's just how it was for them early on. But now we're seeing, like, you know, the strengths of their team kind of carry this, this team. I mean, the White Sox, who are a good offensive team, especially at home. Now Murakami hasn't been there. He's coming back today, I believe. Two runs, 15 hits, zero extra base hits across these three games. So that's a recipe for success. Hey, go do that against any team.

You don't really need a big offense. But they're starting to hit a little bit too. And definitely cannot count the Red Sox out at all. I think whether it was two weeks ago, a lot of people were. Trev, these final couple series, Cubby's Baltimore, Cubs, again, have kind of turned it around sneakily when they were in the bad place getting near 500. I think at one point they've won 11 of 14. they almost get the sweep here, some late inning dramatics, turn it around. Baltimore has kind of been irrelevant for a little bit now.

I know everyone, I keep saying everyone involved in the AL, but you just mentioned that Chris Rose question where it's Toronto, Seattle, Detroit, and we keep forgetting a team. Boston, like Baltimore doesn't get mentioned anymore. They're kind of out. This was an interesting series. We did get, you know, some good Cubs.

Matthew Boyd, as you mentioned, coming back throwing hard 95 point on his hardest pitch of the season um always didn't get a hit in nine of bats with runners on so that's the way to do it if you're a pitcher you got to love that and they desperately needed some some good matthew boy to in that rotation PCA continues to do his thing you mentioned the 2020 stuff he's an absolute stud um a little late comeback um by baltimore in game two but chicago was able to hold on to it and then in that last the last game you got to give our guy Craig alber and as a little credit here a little pinch hiter announced the reliever pinch hit for the pinch hitter and and jackson comes through for them

i always like when managers do stuff like that that's fun because that's a chess piece just match like you knew you were going to do that from the get go and i and i got to believe that Craig counsel also understood that was probably coming and it's just like you know hey you make your call let's see what happens. There was a little bit of the Nico Horner getting thrown off of the bag oversliding the base. Gunner Henderson blocking the bag, if you will. But if it's not called on the field, people, it cannot be reviewed, which is crazy. I get so lost in that man, because I do too. This rule always freaks me or I don't know what to do with the blocking the base and second rule.

because I think this is blocking the base, right? So, I mean, I don't know. How do you interpret that? Because I don't think you have to give the entire base to them. You have to give them a lane to slide in still. But then you're almost like, right now. And you have to have the ball too. Right now the way the rules are written,

it almost is encouraged that Nico Horner should slide into Gunner there to like draw the foul, which that doesn't feel right. Yeah. I mean, he shouldn't have came off the base. I don't necessarily agree with that. But again, I don't really, my interpretation of the role is that you need to give him a lane. What does that even mean? And you have to have the ball. You can't block it when you don't have the ball. So you have to be able to see that. And in a real time, I feel like that's really a different. call to make for the guy on the field,

Two for four, Homer, three RBI, two runs. I was just going through, like, the best first baseman this year. And I was shocked to see how high he, T.J. Rumfield, deserves a shout out here. We're on that list. And it's just like, Jake Bowers, kind of a post-hype.

the guy was a real prospect. He's 30 now from California, obviously. And yeah, he's just going gangbusters for the Milwaukee Brewers. Him. Andrew Vaughn has an 893 OPS. White Sox fans look away. Oh, yeah. Just up and down that lineup.

weekend This is just a straight up Respect Award I'll call it the Respect Award If you hadn't seen the news Justin Verlander has come out and said this will be his last season. And with that, Rob Manfred,

who's been making a lot of good decisions over the last couple of years, used his commissioners pick, if you will, to put him into the All-Stra game. I actually really liked that they do this. They did it with Poo-Holes. They did with Miggy in their last year. Bryce Harper got the nod as well for him this year, if he didn't know that.

But he uses it for Verlander, who obviously is like he's he's on his way out he's said it himself but to get you know one big last big like uh not ovation but recognition um because this guy has been an absolute stud if you haven't been on his baseball reference page in a while uh go check it out he should have been the one one pick uh in 2004 my draft wow uh but then the padres had it they end up going with Matt Bush. And so the Tigers were able to select Verlander's second overall. Possibly could have changed the trajectory of the franchise

because that's exactly what Verlander did for these Tigers. When he came up, helped make the playoffs for the first time since 1987. And then he's just, he was an absolute stud for the Tigers from 06 to 14. Then he goes to Houston for the rest of, for a long time, from 17 to 23. Yeah, 17 to 23. He's in Houston, wins a couple World Series there. This is a guy, here's some accolades, if you don't know.

Three Cy Youngs, he won the Triple Crown, I mentioned the two World Series. He won the MVP. He won the rookie of the year. Nine-time All-Star, ALCS MVP. He won the ERA title twice. And he's finally hanging up. He's 43 years old.

if you are wondering my numbers against Verlander, eight for 37, three doubles, two runs driven in, 10Ks, no walks, 216 average, 514 OPS. I faced him a ton when he was a stud. And I will say this, I think Justin Verlander ushered in kind of the new era of pitching

that we're seeing now. Velo, obviously. Like he had it. was a guy that would save it, which was a very unique thing to Justin Verlander, where he'd be sitting 94, 95, all throughout the first part of the game, and then all of a sudden the six or seven, he'd reach back and it'd be 97, 98. But he was the guy that started throwing top of the zone, top of the zone, spinning fastballs, had the life on it. And guys did not pitch to the top of the zone. And honestly, like, you know, on purpose,

until Verlander. Everyone was like, we need to get the ball down. Let him hit the ball on the ground. Elevated pitches are for homers. And Verland was like, no, dude, not with my fastball. I'm going to get on top of their barrels. And I'm going to blow it by people. And I think it really ushered in a new way of thinking about pitching.

But so much success, I have so much respect for him. And he's got a family now, wants to go home. I guess it's more of a hat tip than anything, too. Justin Verlander, man, a guy who I have immense respect for. So congratulations on a great career. Hope you enjoy the All-Star game. Hopefully we'll get to interview on the red carpet. That'd be really cool.

that Chris Sanchez didn't make the All-Star team. team when he very clearly should have made the All-Star team. But he was going to pitch on Sunday. And if you're going to pitch on Sunday, you're not going to throw in the All-Star game. And that's how we got Jacob Mizorowski starting last year, which, remember that whole hubbub, which, again, ended up being fine. And my God, look what Mizorowski's doing. And it highlighted him.

I don't know, man, for this All-Star game that gets a lot of, like, do guys want to play in it? Would guys just rather have the three days off, blah, blah, blah. No, it was kind of cool. Seeing 36-year-old Zach Wheeler being like, I want to be an All-Star. Like, I want to do this, and it's messed up. That, I don't know, man.

In a way that was kind of refreshing to me, like, for a guy that's done, kind of every song and dance in baseball, sure, it's a home game because it's Philly. he also deserves to be there. because obviously if he's not going to pitch, what are you doing, blah, blah, blah. I don't know. I don't care if Zach Wheeler gets a fourth or third All-Star game. He's great. He kind of deserves the nod. So not. Yeah, I don't understand.

Like, okay, I'm fine with the rule. If you pitch on Sunday, you're not pitching in the All-Star game. I'm fine with that. But just. send him there, give him the notation on his freaking baseball reference page that he's now a four-time All-Star three in a row. He deserves it. He's also, yeah, again, it's in Philly.
