Starting point is 00:00:06 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. It is the AllJM Award show edition. We got three months of the season. We're pouring through. Let's do it. Hello and welcome to talking baseball. I'm a seat geek. My name is Jimmy.
Starting point is 00:00:32 I'm sitting here with Treb and Jake and producer BPD. And we are talking about the best guys in Major League Baseball up until this point in the season. BPD after this is posted. changed the title because June All-Star team trips everybody up. It's like April through June All-Star team and then to our social media team as well because I can't fight that battle anymore on the interwebs. But I'm excited to give out some daisies. Trev, you look like a fancy soccer player. That's what I'm going for. This is an Inter Milan jersey. Don't ask me about who plays on the team or even what positions are played on a soccer field
Starting point is 00:01:17 because I have no idea, but it looks good on me. And I thought Jake was going to bring a little bit something more today for well-dressed Wednesday, but then he explained to me kind of what's going on there. So I get it now. But yeah, I just thought I'd throw on a collar today for the show.
Starting point is 00:01:32 You know, be a little professional. I like that. I'm also wearing a colored shirt because I had to buy this from, Sam bought it for me from Macy's because I needed a shirts for, the Yes Network to look good. This was option. It got cut. Didn't make the Yes Network cut.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Jake, wrapping the renegades. How are you doing? This is my angry Italian raccoon face. The renegades, Hudson Valley, they are represented by that. And yeah, there's some extra swag that goes with it, Trev. The well-dressed Wednesday is actually going up in a minute. You never posted it yet. Yeah, I know. Dog, dad's been working.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Bobby. Dad's been working busy couple days at John Boy Media, but this is why we do it, people. The all-JM team through the month of June, we will find out whose career is on a trajectory to change their life and potentially get the Silver Daisy. Baseball reference, their knees are shaking with what updates they'll have to put in after this episode.
Starting point is 00:02:39 And I'm excited because what it's all about, Trevor, that's your real name, is highlighting the best players in the league that deserve the love. And today is a day when we do that. Okay. Is Archie Bradley going to be part of this? Come on. Oh, it's tough.
Starting point is 00:03:03 That is tough. I feel bad about that. It's, I think about how Phil Nevin feels now. It's got to feel horrible. Well, I mean, he can't be a fault for Bradley falling over the railing. But, you know, a lot of guys jumped and didn't. Baby, can you change my screen? So all I have is Trev waving and nodding from the start of the show on repeat.
Starting point is 00:03:23 It's like a gif. Oh, wow. And he, waving. You want out. Changed? What? This is confusing. What?
Starting point is 00:03:32 Can I get the gift? I don't know what just happened. Can I get the Trevor waving gif on my screen? Oh, I can see you guys now. It was just Trev slow waving for like so long. That's who I was talking to. Just a giff of Trev. My,
Starting point is 00:03:48 my babysitter came over this morning. Olivia's doing a tennis match today. So shout out, Oh, dog. And she came over. The first thing she said to me was, you look tired. And I was just about to go on camera with C.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Rose and I was, hey, it's not what I want to hear right now. You're 20 years old. You never look tired. Like, try being 36. And looking like this. Wow. I didn't tell her that.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I just walked away with my head in my hands, being like, dang. All right, you ready to get into it? I sure am. And why don't you grab a seat and geek out over the best players in baseball? Seat geek, you can go to a stadium and see some of these best players in baseball. I've got the app on my phone. I was a little surprised by the color of the app I'm going to be honest
Starting point is 00:04:42 Seatkeek I'll talk to you It's kind of orange and black It's kind of Halloween themed But what is great about it when you get in there If you know the North American stoplight You are going to know how to operate this app They show you the best deals in the house Little red, yellow, green green means go baby
Starting point is 00:05:06 Those are the best deals I went and I sat with Coach Ballgame a little while back, and I got a Seeky ticket, and we had a nice time. We had a nice time. He's bigger in the TikTok community. I'm bigger on creep talk, creepy TikTok. But with Seekek and Code Teakkeek and Code Deak and you get $20 off your first Seek order.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Code talking, $20 off your first Seek order. Go get the app. Trevor, it looked like you had a question. All right. So we talk about this quite often here. like go see show hey otani play right yeah i'm on the seek keep website right now seek geek dot com tickets starting at four dollars to go see these dudes mike trout show hey otani so if he used talking baseball's code you's get for free
Starting point is 00:05:55 how does that work i don't think they'll send you money but like you might get your tickets go try four dollars to go see mike trout play on seat key go ahead and do that. And of Tom. Right. Not Archie Bradley. Okay. Okay. Jimmer, we got you? I'm playing blind. So if I am lost or look like I'm not looking at you guys, I can't see you. Okay. So that says it's going to be an interesting one. There we go. All right. At least I don't have you
Starting point is 00:06:31 now, Jake, but at least I have, no, don't give it to me, BPD. It's just not going to work. It's, I just can't. We love technology. I can't give it to. Just Trevor. If one of these is going to have to play, not seeing somebody. All right. I'll play blind. I can't talk to a gif of Trev. It's very confusing.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Just slow-mo waving at me. You guys want to do A-L or NL? Let's do A-L. I think we always start with the A-L. And we start with the NL on regular shows. So we start with the A-L here. Okay. Behind the dish?
Starting point is 00:07:07 Behind the dish. Past winters through April. It was Sean Murphy through May. it was Jonah Heim and now through June. What do we got? Oh, is this true? Because actually we wanted to make a little bit of a change maybe because we did the through May. And there was two days left.
Starting point is 00:07:29 And Alejandro Kirk went off in those two days. And there was a petition. It's like, hey, you guys should rethink this and give him May. I don't have that data. I don't know if that's allowed or we have the time to do it. I was interested in it for a little bit. But Alejandro Kirk is listed as the top option for the AL catcher. I know we talk about my short thick king a lot,
Starting point is 00:07:53 and we usually emphasize that he's a short thick king, but it cannot be overlooked that he has run away with this currently, a 941 OPS 325-414. Some people break the mold, My man does it. I don't think we're going to need a vote here. I think if we're looking at these stats is obviously Alejandro Kirk. Funny thing about this, as I was prepping for baseball today, I stumbled upon a video about some Blue Jays pundits talking about how they need a veteran catcher there.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah, they like these guys, but they don't, aren't handling the pitching stuff well enough. So that's an interesting take. I think you leave the offense and worry about that later. he actually has a positive defensive war, at least on baseball references page. So maybe this guy's far off, but I think he was like a former Blue Jays catcher that was saying this,
Starting point is 00:08:47 that they need somebody to handle the staff. But if you're looking at these numbers right now, you're talking about all JM team for June. Alejandro Kirk has got my vote. I'm interested to hear Blue Jays fans' opinion on that. I mean, obviously, can a catcher affect the starting pitching staff is one of the more nuanced opinions?
Starting point is 00:09:08 I think they can affect them good and they can affect them bad, but how much can they really swing that pendulum is up for debate. But you see his K percentage, I think that's out of all the impressive stats for all 100 Kirk, 9.7K percentage, way lower than kind of. There's only two people I see up for a daisy at any position in the A.L that have a K percentage lower than that. So that's awesome. Not a lot of guys you can look around the league and say you're going to strike out. and walk at the same rate. He's one of the guys. He actually has more walks and strikeouts this year.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Like Carlos Santana's done it a bunch in his career. He's kind of, I think he might be doing it again this year. And he just gets traded to the Mariners. I think Louisa Rice, we might be talking about later is done doing it. But I agree with you, James. I love,
Starting point is 00:09:53 I love guys that can do that. Just put the ball in play, but also, you know, you're walking too. He's not walking. I love it. Jake, anything else on Kirkie or should we move on the first base? No. I think we got to keep him moving.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Sometimes these Eps get away from us. So when we got to run away like Kirkie, we tip the cap and keep him moving to first base where Tony Riz won April, Yankees first baseman. Thai France, ha ha ha. He won for May. I know he's hurt now.
Starting point is 00:10:29 So Jimmer, what is the ALE first base situation looking like to you? What is his injury? Is it, um, uh, he aims to return in the next 10 days as of, eight minutes ago. So that's fine. That won't affect his standing here. He looks to be the runaway. I mean, OPS wise, Luis Arise is neck and neck, but he's only played
Starting point is 00:10:50 30 games at first base, which is less than 50%. So I do knock that a bit. I think, I see, Vladie's coming for him. That's the other thing. Vladie is heating up. At least he was last I checked. So I do think my vote's going to go to Thai France here. I'm going to stay with Thai France, except I want to see because I feel like a rise has played a lot more first base as of late and I'm looking that up right now. Nope, that's totally wrong. He's been playing a lot more second base as of late.
Starting point is 00:11:22 So he's been going off. I hope he ends up making it to the All-Star game just because he's just like a fun type of hitter to watch. But for me, this is Thai friends as well. Yeah, give the Mariners some love. Vladdy Jr. is coming. Jose Bray, who deserves a little bit of a shout out. his numbers are getting to Jose Abraeuland.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I still think Ty Francis' hot start keeps him on top. And yeah, Luis de Rize, but by the end of this year, he's either got to find a position or we need to make a util spot because he might be screwing himself pedal-wise. Yeah, we're anti-util, so we may have to change that. I don't know if that actually reflects our opinions, but our voting process is anti-U-Til. Yeah, we are.
Starting point is 00:12:07 We like games played at one position. But that's, you know, what sucks is, you know, that's not really his doing. No. What are you talking about first base when Lysa is not a first base. And to be fair, his, I mean, he's leading and batting average in OBP, but some of the other categories he is getting beaten. So if he was, I think if he was a head or maybe head and shoulders above these guys, then you say, well, let's find a spot for Luis Arise.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I think, I think he'll find a way later this year. but as of now, I think he's getting chipped. Tiebreaker. Two are games. Yeah. All right. That goes to second base in the American League, where we have had Andres Jimenez win in a very, like,
Starting point is 00:12:53 no one deserved it, though, if I remember correctly. And then Jose Altuvae took it through May through June. It's the same two guys. And then Luis Saras, who again, only played 25 games at second. So tough for him. We have Jose El Tuva again as a higher OPS. He has a higher slugging. He has a higher on base.
Starting point is 00:13:16 And he has a lower average. He has more home runs. He has a lower K percentage, a higher walk percentage. For me, this is El Tuva and it's easy. I think Kamenez gets, you know, he gets a few pegs, or gets knocked down a few pegs. Excuse me. He doesn't get pegged.
Starting point is 00:13:39 that's a Jake thing. Four, again, playing multiple positions. He's got 46 of a 62 at second, and what was it at short, or whatever it was? He's got 17 at short. But I agree. I think Al-Tuve, if you kind of look over the overall numbers, you just, like you said, he leads in more categories,
Starting point is 00:13:59 the homers and the runs, less RBIs, but obviously that's, he's sitting at the top of the lineup. But I'll get my vote to Al-Tube for this June. This is tough. Jimenez, man, he really is having a great year, man. Great year. He's up for a daisy. Of course he is.
Starting point is 00:14:18 And I think, you know, I think defensively, I haven't watched enough day in, day out. I think what he does, it at least grades out higher defensively. That being said, as someone who just watched what Jose Al-Tuvae does at the office. My God. And I think anyone, if they,
Starting point is 00:14:40 being honest with themselves, who if you were playing it, if your favorite team was playing against another team today, would you rather see Andres Jimenez in the box or Jose Al Tuve? I think you know the answer. So I, I don't know. I don't know if those emotions should be coming through me, but they are and I'm giving it to Jose Altuve. I mean, defensively right now, it's Andrew Jimenez,
Starting point is 00:15:04 kind of by a landslide, but I don't know, man. I agree with you. If you are watching this, you guys. well that still means something it's a fourth most meaningful defensive position in the infield it's tough I know it's tough
Starting point is 00:15:19 you get turned to play I'm I think they were anonymous or anonymous unanimous yeah without two big unanimous okay and an honest
Starting point is 00:15:28 congrats to jalt imagine if that's what they called them like a rod they called them jalt jelt sounds like a band it's the opposite of a band all right shortstop j p crawford tim anderson we're the last two winners we got uh four potential on our list here
Starting point is 00:15:50 we got bogarts him and as again 17 at shorts up he's out we got three potential bobby whit junior corseeger and bogart so the two daisy winners of past have been completely jumped jumped Damn. That's wild. How bad were their maze or were these other guys just like so much better? I love hearing Bobby Wood Jr. in the mix. I'll tell you that much. Yeah, but he's a lot better.
Starting point is 00:16:22 He doesn't play a lot better. This looks like a runaway. Yeah, this isn't really a question. We got Zander leading the way in pretty much every single category. He's got a three and a half F war. The guy's hitting 328 with a 400 on base percentage. I mean, at the shortstop position, baby. Give me that all freaking day.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Power hasn't been there necessarily, but the other numbers are, and I think Xander's our guy. He a free agent after the year? I think he's got like an opt-out or something like that, right? Opt-out, okay. That might be interesting. 3-28-400. How about that?
Starting point is 00:17:03 Good for use it. Hey. Hell yeah. Only six homers, only six homers, but it's the shortstop position. I think he's got how many doubles? 21 doubles. So I think you'll take that. The slugging is still 474, so it's not bad.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Zander across the board. Use that monster, kid. Wait, hold on one second. What's wrong? No, he doesn't, he has no, he doesn't have any options. Yeah, he's a free agent, right? Yeah, I think so. No.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Are we just completely off here? I'm looking at his baseball reference page. He's got 20 million coming to him in 23, 24, and 25. There's a vesting option for 26. Did they just do a deal and we just missed it? Sandra Bogartz is going to leave Boston Red Sox. I'm on his baseball reference page right now. So he's signed through 2025, six years, $120 million.
Starting point is 00:17:59 He's eligible to opt out after the season. Yeah, eligible to opt out after 2020. That's what I thought. It does not list that on his baseball reference page. So. FanGraphs has that. Okay. So all right.
Starting point is 00:18:13 All right. We continue on the third base where we have, and we don't want to this to influence us, but we have a Silver Daisy potential guy, J. Ram, J.R.T. Sounds awful. I'm not pulling for it at all, but it's an option. J. Ram has won it. the first two months of the season, he's been the best. But we have Devers and these guys last year just seesawed back and forth, back and forth.
Starting point is 00:18:44 J. Ram ended up taking the daisy. Devers did get some pedals along the way. Devers has a higher batting average. Devers has a higher on base percentage. Devers has not a slightly less slugging, but it's slight. And Devers has a higher, no way is a less OPS, but it's, They're basically tied in OPS. Wow. 17 home runs for Devers. 16 home runs for J. Ram.
Starting point is 00:19:11 12 stolen bases for Ramirez, only two for Devers. So when they're that tied offensively, this is your first time watching our voting process. We can basically say that's a wash offensively. They're so similar. So then you go to defense, you go to base running, you go to the walks and the other stuff,
Starting point is 00:19:32 because the offensive numbers are, in my opinion, a wash. So what do you go to next, Jake, when you're looking between these two guys to find a winner? God. Yeah, you do. Because I don't know, man. I don't know. I see that 332 is sticking out at me like a sore thumb.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I think people are beginning to re-appreciate what batting average means. Yes, on-base percentage is cool and can be important, but batting average can also, also means you hit. If your team needs a hit, you hit. And 332 from Rafael Devers is insane. And the thing, the two things that are holding me up, stolen bases. Jose Ramirez is still snagging bags.
Starting point is 00:20:23 He's got 12 this year. Defensively, in my head, I have Jose Ramirez as a better defender. It hasn't graded out that way this year. These guys are kind of in the same boat. So I'm all sixes and sevens right now between stolen bases and batting average. I think I'm leaning Devers. I have a different way of looking at it. You know, we do love to talk about games played at the position.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Right now Devers has 72 games played at the position while Jose Ramirez has 57. He does have a higher F-4. The batting average to me doesn't, I mean, I know. get it. 332 is amazing, but J-Rams hitting 300, essentially, $2.99. So they both can hit for average. They both can hit for power. I'm sort of leaning Devers here as two. I am getting a little influenced, James, by that potential for a Silver Daisy with J-Ramp. First of all, we know he's going to be good every single month. You can kind of say the same thing about Devers. But I think I've had to vote right now, and I am voting right now. I think I'm going Devers.
Starting point is 00:21:28 man I was looking at just like the game log to see who has more empty games so a game started where they didn't reach base no hits no walks it's seven for Devers it's eight for J-Ram I mean these guys have been doing this for two years now just incredibly tied nonstop I haven't seen the defense and I also don't value
Starting point is 00:21:55 defensive metrics and numbers at all So for me, I haven't seen enough of either team, either guy to like use that. And then when you look at the walks and all that, I mean, it's just, it's a wash. So I do. I like the stolen bases a lot. But, man, Devers has only had 10 games without a hit. 17 for J-Ram. Just bringing it every single day.
Starting point is 00:22:24 I wonder how many games do you have without reaching at all. And think about this. So the Red Sox have dug themselves out of a monstrous hole. At one time, weren't they like 10 games under 500 or something like that, right? In May, 1.133 OPS for Devers, in June, 1.015. So as they're digging themselves out of this hole, I mean, it's been on the back of Devers. I want to hear a fun stat. There's one game where Devers had zero hits, zero walks, zero.
Starting point is 00:22:57 He did not reach on error. He did not have a sack flyer, sack hit. So he must have reached on a fielder's choice. And nobody did. Stole a bag. Boom. Just to get in the fucking column for that day. I'll go Devers.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Spice it up. Sorry, J. Ram. No, no daisy for you. They're tough to come by. J. Ram gets swept off the podium. Disgusting. Yeah, that was unanimous. I love that word today.
Starting point is 00:23:24 All right. All right. Let's go to the outfield. we got Kwan won through April, Yordon Alvarez won through May. And Trev, you were in Italy. Basically, we gave it to Ben Intendi, I believe, but said, if Alvarez doesn't win DH, then he will win left field. So then Ben and Tendi got bounced out.
Starting point is 00:23:52 He's leading now in left field. Only 30 games played. Is he playing more DH now? Man, I mean, it's Austin Hayes on the list now. How about it, kid? Let's go Orioles. I'm looking at Alvarez and the games he's played in left field. And in June, he's played, I don't know, like 13 games.
Starting point is 00:24:21 So he's kind of like half. He's half in the whole season. Let's speed this up. I think J.D. Martinez had a bad month. So I think Yordon can win the D.H spot easily. If you scroll down to D.H. And then that opens up left field. Yordons at D.H.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Yeah. Yeah. J.D. fell off. Shohay is not keeping up with Yurdon. So Yudon's going to win the ALDH, which then opens up a little bit of a battle between Ben and Tendi and Hayes. And that's an interesting conversation. I'm going to go Ben Intendi right now.
Starting point is 00:25:01 These two guys are doing it on a team that's not that aren't good. Hayes can't play for a trade. Ben and Denny's playing for sub and it's not a contract year, but what is a contract year? You're in a trade year. So I love that aspect of it. 71 games at a 72 in left field. He's got a 303 batting average, a 368 OBP.
Starting point is 00:25:20 He's not hitting for power. I think a little bit by design. and he's just utilizing, slapping the ball around. And if you're going to do that and kind of sell out, not sell out for power, then your batting average has to be good and your on base has to also be good and he's crushing both those categories.
Starting point is 00:25:42 So where Austin Hayes does have him in power, which leads to a higher OPS, I still like what Ben and Tent is doing day and day out of left field. I don't, I don't want to take too much away from Hayes, you know, in the games played category here in left field, he's playing defense. He's just switching between left field and right field. He's not going to win right field. We know who's going to win right field. So I want to give this one to Hayes, because besides, you know, the numbers that you just said, James, I mean, Hayes is kind of the guy
Starting point is 00:26:13 there. Like besides batting average non-base percentage, you know, he's got more homers, he's got more runs, he's got more RBI, he's got a higher F war. Like, I know Benetennie's played 71 games in left field and Hayes only 39 but he has been playing the other outfield position and so you can't try not to fault him i think i'm going with the numbers here i'm going to go with hayes i would like to be the first to award a baltimore orio a pedal because austin hayes trev you said it uh he's playing every day in the outfield he just happens to be splitting his time between left field and right field andrew bentendie he only has five more hits than Austin Hayes on the season.
Starting point is 00:27:00 And most of those are singles, 20 more singles than Hayes, but Hayes has eight more doubles. He has eight more home runs, more runs, more RBI. Austin Hayes in the middle of that bird's lineup playing some corner outfield. Proud of my O's, man. They answered this year. Congratulations, Austin Hayes. I think these next two are pretty easy, right?
Starting point is 00:27:27 we can kind of just gloss over them. What do we got? Right field, that's got to be judged. I've been with the numbers, it's got to be judge, right? Judge is doing it in right field. He's also up for center field, but he's played. He actually is a center fielder now. That's the only thing that's keeping me back is that, yeah,
Starting point is 00:27:49 he's playing a lot of center fields of 35 games at right field, and he's got 37 games in centerfield. So if you look at those numbers, he's played more center. And I don't know how much we can. about this anymore if we do or if we care a lot but I don't think judge has played right field in a long time he played one game in right field in June like he is the yankee center fielder right now okay then that turns everything on its head because it was supposed to be Mike trout going for the silver daisy and center field but now he's got a lot of competition with judge that's going to be a
Starting point is 00:28:21 hell of a discussion so if we're in right field then we're taking judge out of there I think we have one month to buy our time. I think for qualifying this month. Aaron Judge, 35 games in right field, 37 in centerfield. You are right. He has begun to play center field every day and at a high level. Kind of, if you haven't been following the Yankees closely, pretty well to see. What's today's date?
Starting point is 00:28:50 I don't think we can include him in the right fielder category. I don't know. He's played all exclusively in center field except for one game this year. Or in June. In June. But this isn't just a June award. Remember, this is a season award. If it continues another month, yeah, he probably won't have enough to qualify for right. Well, he's played more games in center for talking about that.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Hey, this is tough guys. If you guys are saying it, I, again, it's why it's three of us. If you guys want to rule Aaron Judge out for right field, I will support that. How many more days of June do we have left? It's June 29th, right? He just hit a two-run home, or I'm wondering how much that changes. As a center fielder. As a center fielder, I'm wondering how much that changes these numbers versus Trout.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Because they're similar. Tomorrow's last day of June. They're similar. I might want to put the center field on ice. Let Judgey and Trout battle it out for two more days. Wow. Tough for Trout, who's in line for a silver day. That's the great game.
Starting point is 00:29:50 They put the other best hitter in baseball. to you? It is tough. He's like, hey, sign Brett Gardner put him in center field. Right. He loves it out there. He's a sick guy now.
Starting point is 00:30:04 So does that not mean we're talking Kyle Tucker in right field? If judge is gone, then yes, we're talking Kyle Tucker in right field. I mean, I'm rooting for, and I like Mike Trout, but I'm rooting for our judge right now in the game that's being played right now.
Starting point is 00:30:23 I'm sorry, I'm saying on center field because we're kind of there. He hit two, he had a two run home run, which brings his OPS as it stands to 1.007. Trout has 1.042. I want to put, my vote is to put center fielder on ice and let them truly ride out the month. Maybe we should have done that with Devers and Bogarts too,
Starting point is 00:30:46 or Devers and J. Ram too. Going into today also, Judge does have 40 more. played appearances, give or take. It's been there. They're tied for war right now. I'm down to put it on ice. And this just means that Kyle Tucker is going to win right field.
Starting point is 00:31:09 This isn't like a thing like if judge loses center field, he's going to get the right field, right? No, I think he's not a right fielder right now. I think he might be able to get back into right field. But right now it's less than 50% games of the season at right field. Judge is the center fielder for you guys. Like for the rest of the season, right? they're not going to sign a center fielder.
Starting point is 00:31:28 They just might buy time and, like, give him some rest and then split days. But I think come postseason, he's probably the center fielder for the Yankees. All right. Let's put this on ice then because that is going to be a big discussion between him and Troutt. Right field. It leaves Kyle Tucker, Adelis Garcia, and then Taylor Ward, who, you know, he was hurt for a while. So he's kind of, I think, was he in line for a Silver Daisy? He was.
Starting point is 00:31:55 he's off he's off lines off my votes Kyle Tucker and right field and center field will figure out in the upcoming days yeah it's kind of interesting I would expect the right field to have better numbers not no knock on Kyle Tucker it's just usually a like that's where you find your like one daughter's not center field
Starting point is 00:32:20 judge and drought doing it judge getting moved I think Tucker's there well judge and then you got mookie he's in the NL But, you know, usually right fielders are bringing the pop. All right. Tucker and right. I'm sorry. Tucker's in right.
Starting point is 00:32:44 And then are we putting center field on ice? That's a little bit of Yankeeism, but I'm okay with that. What do you mean? They're close enough. I think as it stands right now, like on our sheet. Because we didn't, we didn't do this for, you know, like we said, J-Ram and Devere. So as it stands on a sheet, I think there's a discussion to be had, but I think Trout, I would get my vote.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Because of Centerfield eligibility, I would go Trout just because he's played 63 games at Center Field. And this is a season-long award. That's where I was fine leaving Judge for one more month and right, but I understand the whole predicament. But how I value Centerfield in that position on the whole, playing it is important to me. where I'd Trout playing almost double the games. I think that would matter. The numbers are actually, I don't know. The numbers are so close.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Judge has them and some. Definitely, obviously, the plate appearances helps him with some of the counting stats there. I don't know, man. I think it's smart to let this cool down a little bit. We'll have to make a decision soon, though. It's one more day, right? We'll reconvene before we put the official graphic out.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Friday. Today and tomorrow? Like, if the votes today, it does seem like. Let you know on the recap up. All right. Then we got right field covered, center field on ice. I mean,
Starting point is 00:34:07 the official votes are in for Kyle Tucker, right? Yes. Yeah. Okay. So DH, obviously we already said who's going to win that one.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Unless we need to rework how we do this. Like if, if they're eligible, they're eligible and we don't take games played into account or I don't know. Otherwise, we'll have to do a percentage wise of games then. And then I think a lot of people
Starting point is 00:34:25 will miss out on everything if you're playing. Yeah. That damn versatility. That'll come back to bite you. In the past, I believe the precedent we've set, at least during the season, end of the years when it was the biggest discussion, but it was like if you played 40% of your games at a position, we were kind of fine with that during the season. By the end of the year, it might be different, but the final award. So as I'm looking right now, if we're going through, we have only, only have a couple more. Oh, we actually know.
Starting point is 00:34:58 And now we have plenty of guys that could still get a Silver Daisy. Okay. Let's close out AL starting pitching. Shane McClanahan is your ERA leader. No one has pitched more games than him. He has the third most innings pitched of potential pedal winners, a 177 ERA, a 083 whip. He's my easy vote. Oh, man. I also like whip as a statistic for pitchers. No defense helps out with that But you know thinking about when you're on the field playing defense This guy is not letting base runners on He's just not I mean Not even allowing a full base runner on per inning
Starting point is 00:35:46 And there's a couple guys that are like that And you know Verlanders close to him in whip He's got a 0.87 can't ignore what he's been doing Martine Perez is the F war leader Somehow how is that just a little bit more Some more pitches you got two more innings than Shane McClan This is tough, man. Treve, I'll take the sword out of your hand.
Starting point is 00:36:08 It's Shane McClanahan. Thank you. I appreciate that. Anytime. Then my vote, just for shits and giggles. Give your vote to Tyone. I'm going to give it to Verlander. I don't doubt that Verlander's going to be coming for him. He's very close in the ERA and the whip.
Starting point is 00:36:28 He's got one less game started, not fully his fault. they're kind of maneuvering him. And is he pitching like today or something? That's another thing we have to look at. No, I don't. I don't know. I don't believe so. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:47 They're moving him around. Because he was supposed to pitch tomorrow, but I don't think they moved him up, right, Jake? So they moved him back. Yeah, they pushed him back. They said, uh, or no. Is he pitching against the Mets today? Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:37:00 He is. That's what I'm saying, dude. Oh, boy. What would he have to do to lower ZRA? Not allowed any runs. He's got two something, right? He's got two, two, two. So he's got to allow, you know, one run over six.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Let's do it because, all right, so he's got two, two, two and a one seven seven. So give me, uh, give me like a, like seven in a zero. Let's just like, like, see that. Zero. Where's that get him? Chad's saying he's already scoreless through three today. Okay. Seven zero.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Wait, we have a. chat? Yeah, we're live right now. What? Oh my goodness. Let me get in the chat. Get in there. Seven innings would be 96.1 and zero would be 22. Would that get him lower than Shane Mac? It would get him to a 206. So I don't think it's possible. I mean, if he goes complete game shuddy, we're talking about a 98.1, 22 complete game shut up, gets into a 202 ERA. I don't think it's possible. All right.
Starting point is 00:38:12 You guys win. I'm still voting for JV, but McClana. And congratulations on your day too. Appreciate it. All right, Jake, who's going to bring us to the NL? The National League is brought to us by Trevor Ploofs.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Roman knows because a little known fact, Trevor uses Roman swipes on his nose for when he goes down there. Roman Swipes, if you're struggling with premature ejaculation, these may be able to help you out. We're supposed to get some in for a demo. We'll post it on the main YouTube. Starting point is 00:39:10 You're thinking about it. It's on your head. Literally. Try these Roman swipes. It could change your life. It could change your relationship. It can make you enjoy sex. Go to get roman.com slash talking.
Starting point is 00:39:27 if approved, you will get $10 off your first order. That's get Roman.com slash talking today for $10 off. That was the most graphic you've got, just so you know. What's that? It was a little much right there. You got me. Wow. I keep pushing.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I love it. The National League catcher situation, J.T. Romuto, and then Wilson Contreras. I'm interested and curious in this. and looked at it. Looks like Contreras might be still the leader with Darno, creeping up on him. This is a runaway for me. Badding average.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Darno's played every game at catcher. Does that mean he's not good enough at D.H? Ooh. No, they just use their D.H a little differently maybe. I don't know. I think Wilson Contreras runs away with this. I would have to agree. And he could be coming to your team.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Just wait for the deadline. He's not going to be a cub. He'll be somewhere. Hopefully it's with a good team. Hey, we called out, last time we called out the NL catchers. We said get involved. You know, I think next month, I think next month is going to be a bitch of a catching position.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Will Smith is starting to get it going. Darn, no. Man, when his swing is right, that dude is a bad man at the plate. I think the praises have been band him in that top part of the lineup here and there. It's still Wilson Contreras for now. And J.T. Realmudo, starting to grind. Get hot.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Need you. Need it. But congrats Wilson Contreras. Congratulations. Maybe he'll be an AL catcher next time we do this, huh? Oh, my gosh. Oh, here's a good way to speed up the episode. One, two, three, and all first base, Paul Goldschmidt.
Starting point is 00:41:27 You think so? And we just say amazing, no competition, amazing, no competition. He's an L player. So 429 OBP, the one daughter OPS. How many? You got 24 doubles already. And how many homers? 19.
Starting point is 00:41:50 He's doing it. Paul Goldschmidt, congratulations. Goldschmidt, good job, Goldie. All right. Second baseman in the NL. We had Tommy Edmund. We had Tommy Edmund. And he's the leader of the way it's being presented to us right now.
Starting point is 00:42:07 This is another one. He's played 49 games at second. He's played 33 at short. He's starting to become the shortstop. Yeah, because they got Gorman at second base. So we're talking. Is this a judge situation where he just doesn't, how many did he play in June? I think this month he kind of became shortstop.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Yeah, he's like exclusively at shortstop. This month. This is tough. Uh, okay. well yesterday he played second hey first time he started at second since june 7th four starts at second uh in june well i don't love this we got to change our system yeah this is tough we got to change her we got change our system versatility cannot be a bad thing if we're trying to say that this is the official all-star vote
Starting point is 00:43:00 or all all jm team so i am uh i'm up to a new system leave your comments on how we can better have one system to vote on these and like kind of like a rule and whoever has the best uh suggestion because judge deserves a solution is just a utility but judge isn't getting utility judge deserves a daisy like i think maybe we go back to just three outfielders i think that maybe that was better hmm i think going in At the end of last year, we wanted, like, a center fielder that should be mentioned, and then it's two other outfielders. Like, one certainly should be a center fielder.
Starting point is 00:43:40 And again, I think during the season last year, it was always just like 40% of your games. It can be two center fielder. It just cannot be three corner outfielders. Correct. Yes. I like that. And that's going to help us out tremendously. And also, until Tomi does lose a pedal.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Yeah, Kyle Tucker just lost a pedal. Shit. Houston sound off in the comments. Oh, no. Alvarez's going. I think, you know, with a guy like Tommy Edmund, who's still, I know he's playing a lot of short now, he still played more games at second base. That could also be a thing like, where is the most games you play?
Starting point is 00:44:15 Dude, you know what, though? Like, if we're retroactivelying this, then Stephen Kwan also loses a pedal. Because Judge was, Judge was the April. Judge lost out the Taylor Ward in April just because they both played right field. But if we're going center field or outfield, I mean, I don't know how retroactive we can get. Judge wasn't a center field or then. Judge was pedalless until a minute ago.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I know. Saying Stephen Kwan would be bumped and Judge would get it over him. So confused right now. I don't think we retroactive. You just, in baseball reference, you put one of those asteris that's like this is pre-Civil war error. I just fear that we're losing out on a Silver Daisy easy winner here. At least no one will be mad at this graphic. when we put it now.
Starting point is 00:45:03 That's the main thing. If it was up to me, we would not post this graphic. I think Tom Yebens stays at second base. He's played more games. I understand he's playing short stuff now, but until he crosses that threshold, because Judge crossed the threshold, he's played board games at center field.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I like our new outfield system. Okay. We have to recognize the best center fielder because that's a tough position. Otherwise, they might never get an award. And then you get two outfielders. It can be another centerfielder or it can be two corner outfielder.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I think it's a good system. We just didn't want to slight the center field position because it's way more demanding defensively. We got to talk infield now. Or have it only be centerfielder's and not given opportunity for corners. It was also our fear last year. Because Tommy Edmund really puts this thing in a pretzel.
Starting point is 00:45:53 He's a shortstop. He's a fucking shortstop. I mean, is he going to win the shortstop? Because I think he has an argument there. but then we'll fault him for not playing enough games at short stuff he's played more than 50% at second base April through June yes 49 games at second base out of 75 then he is second baseman
Starting point is 00:46:16 god people are gonna be like we're gonna put him at second base um on our graphic and people are gonna be so upset about that no one's ever been happy about the graphic from this episode no I think in a month it becomes interesting conversation, which one should he be? It'll be closer to a 50. Here's a thing. Yeah, because if we put him at shortstop, Dan's Bay is close to him.
Starting point is 00:46:39 So like, it makes it, I think right now, Tommy Eben's second base, and then we'll talk shortstop. I think it's going to be Dan's Bay. That's how we got to do it. Okay. I'm in favor. Everyone's in the chat saying, we know he's a shortstop chat. I love you guys, but we just said that a million times.
Starting point is 00:47:03 understand he's playing exclusively shortstop right now, but he hasn't crossed the threshold yet at a time like this. You're out of your mind. Chat's mad at me right now. Sometimes when you love people, you can get mad at them. Okay. I vote I. He's played more games at second base than shortstop so far through the season. I think it will be changing. You may have a weird situation where we have a Silver Daisy, but there's two different positions represented. That's interesting to me. Or he might lose out, but unlike judge, it's different. Judge had played less. He'd less than 50%. He's still more than 50% at second base. I'm Tommy Edd into my vote for second base. They already won. All right. Yep. Short stop. Trev thinks it's Dansby. This was Lindor's position.
Starting point is 00:47:51 He won the first month. He won the first and second month. And now he's got competition because Dansby Swanson has really turned it on as has Trey Turner. Yes. Uh, $2.99. batting average for Trey 311 or for Dansby 311 for Trey shout out Cole 361 obp for Dansby 358 the same exact slugging 495 which gives them a very similar OPS they've played both of them have played all their games at short Dan's played 75 games Trey Turner has played 73 wow I think Danesby's defense has been more well regarded this year than Trey Turner's. They're pretty close.
Starting point is 00:48:40 I'm looking at it right now. Like Dan Spees ahead of them a little bit. And like overall metrics. So like maybe that's what's the separation in war. Kind of closer than I was giving it credit for. Yeah, it's really close. Trey Turner is striking out less. Damn.
Starting point is 00:49:02 We have good news. These guys are both short stops. That's nice. Trey Turner has recently turned it on. Like I don't know if we're going. to end of the month caveat here, because these are eerily close. You want to put it on ice?
Starting point is 00:49:18 I'm debating icing. Too much ice this episode. I know it's hot out on people, but we got ice. We took, we took Judge and Trout off ice. The ice just opened up. So we have no one on ice right now, unless we want to go,
Starting point is 00:49:34 Debra. Wait, wait, how is Judge the right field? We just said he played more games in center so far. No, we're, We're not doing that anymore. You were very confused. It's a one center fielder and then two other outfielders. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:47 So you need a center fielder. Austin Hayes over Kyle Tucker? Now we're talking. You know, now we're talking. Now we're talking. Austin Hayes, you just got a round of applause for your first Baltimore Orioles pedal. And I think it's getting ripped out of your hands. They make sure we're right on that.
Starting point is 00:50:10 He only makes sure we're right on that. It's Kyle Tucker. It's Kyle Tucker. Oh, my God. Austin. Brutal for Austin. I can't let that slip by. My guy.
Starting point is 00:50:19 That's a great catch trap. That's a great catch. Abraham Lincoln out there and I don't feel he's got to get an award. Yeah. Fans. Wow. You already pop the champagne. Who.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I love it. Okay. Sorry, Austin. How do we decide between, Trey Turner and Dansby. Well, they're both good-looking guys, too, which sometimes I'll go to that. Like, who's more handsome?
Starting point is 00:50:49 Like, Dansby, maybe, like, more rugged, uh, handsome. But I think Trey Turner might be, like, more Hollywood handsome. Like, if he'd give him the Hollywood makeup, like, makeover, like, he'd be a leading man. I mean, you have an L.A. guy and an Atlanta guy there, right? Like, Danzby, Dansby could spend a weekend in the woods. Trey is taking you out to the nicest restaurants.
Starting point is 00:51:09 And he's tipping his hat at Trevor Plouf on the way out. Trey is from born in Florida. I'm going Trey Ternard. I just went Trey Turner. You did? Strikes out less. That helps. I'm voting for Danesby, James.
Starting point is 00:51:27 That's all on you, baby. Ah, you mother, you mother efforts. I'm going to one tiebreaker. It's most games with a hit list, most hitless games. Oh, oh, Trey Turner hasn't gotten a hit. Oh, no. Trey Turner hasn't gotten a hit. in 10 games, but in six of them, he got a walk.
Starting point is 00:51:49 So he is hitless and walk lists in one, two, three. Oh, wow. Wasn't it just 10 minus six? I think that's four. Four, yes, but in the fourth game, he had a RBI. One of his outs was productive. So he's been a non-contributor at the plate. three games out of 73.
Starting point is 00:52:19 I'll go to Dansby. I don't think he's going to beat that. Danzby's got 21 games without a hit. It's Tray Turner's my vote. I mean, oh my God. I'm fine. He has offensively done something positive for the Dodgers 70 out of 73 games.
Starting point is 00:52:39 That's nuts. Good job, Tray. I mean, he's the man. Wow. All right. Now let's do center fielder first because we need a center fielder and then we will decide on the next best two outfielders in the NL. The center field position looks like we have, it's just one option, Brandon Nimmo. It looks like Nimmo. We have a few guys coming Harris in Atlanta. You know, obviously I haven't played enough games there, only 29 compared to Nimmons.
Starting point is 00:53:17 M.O. 67. So he's not going to be in the running just yet, but that's something to watch for in future days. It's tough for him to win when he didn't even play in April or May. Yes. So, but he could, he could get there. I think we can take that into account maybe. That's another thing that, you know, these rookies coming up. Figure that out. Not yet. And Nimmo's the winner. Nimo's the winner in Centerfield. And this is why we have Centerfield as a position, you know? God, the rest of this is Mike Trout and Aaron Judge just. blowing our doors off.
Starting point is 00:53:54 All right. So now that it's just two out. Let's get some of these out of the way to. Bryce Harper wins DH. Yeah. And it's a little bit of like a. Yeah. Sorry about what's going to happen to you next month, Bryce.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Yeah. At least he wasn't in line for a silver day because Volga Boc took it in April. Congrats, Foggy. That's Fogie. Because he was the only DH, right? Remember he was the only guy that was D.H. At the time.
Starting point is 00:54:19 Yeah. Enough. Okay. So the battle here looks to be between Jock, Peterson, Schwarber, McNeil, and Hap. Let's see. I think McNeil. McNeil's playing more second base. McNeil's playing more second base, yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:42 My vote quickly, because I don't want to be the third person again, is Jock and Swarber. All three cubs. Hap also was a cub at one point. I'm just looking at slash lines here, but I think that's what I'm going to love. You don't want me in right field? I love Ian, but I think I'm going Jock and Schwerber. Yeah, those are my two votes.
Starting point is 00:55:15 I'll take Jock and Mookie. Oh, where's Mookie? I didn't even see him. Yeah, I think Mookie. Oh, sorry, I didn't even see him. Yeah, Mookie's there. So now it's, it's where do you go, Happer, Schwerber, Jock, I think is the next. I'm mooki and hap.
Starting point is 00:55:34 Well, the thing with the thing is, guys, I don't know if you see this on the sheet. May didn't have, I believe it would be a left field winner. We rolled it over until June. I remember actually talking to you guys about that when I was in Italy. Yeah, it was a rollover double. Well, who were the options to roll over?
Starting point is 00:55:56 Yes. Whoever got it. I thought we were deciding between two. one of the two. Well, we said whoever gets it regardless of where they stood. Whoever gets it. This month gets May also.
Starting point is 00:56:08 It's the rollover day's pedal. I'm going to put my vote to Kyle Schwerber. He's single-handedly like kept the Phillies like in. Yeah. I'm going, I'm going Schwerber and, and Mookie. I'm also doing that.
Starting point is 00:56:22 So congratulations, guys. Jake, any thoughts? I took Mookie and Hap. I took Mookie and Hap. Wow. Tough stuff. I mean, Acunni's coming for him. Ronnie's coming.
Starting point is 00:56:39 Soto's always around. Although the numbers are a little not as flashy as you'd think. Man, Harris, too. If he keeps playing like he is in center field, he is going to be some fun conversations later. Congrats to the congratulated. Congrats to the congratulated. Wow, starting pitcher.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Is it Trebs guy? Tony Gonsland? Did he steal it from Alcantana? I think my vote would go for Alcantara because he does have almost 32 more innings. Yes. Yes. So he's, I think he's our guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Wow. You can pitch that deep in the game still. Strikeouts are there. Everything's there. I think Sandy's our guy. You boys know I love me some Tony G. But. Sandy, Sandy.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Getting a lead on the Yankees is the dumbest thing a team can do. Oh, yeah. Santone. Can you give me a meow real quick, Jake? Meow. How many Ws have we gotten at meow so far? That was three. I think he's at nine, right?
Starting point is 00:57:59 Oh, for Cadder Day. Nine victories. Nine Ws and that meow. Joe Musgrove still doing it. Corbyn Burns. Always kind of lurking, but Sandy. I mean, Sandy's got to be on pace for what? Like 230 innings or something?
Starting point is 00:58:23 Maybe. It's Sandy all the way. Now, we have to go back, guys, and fill this one in. Because we have a potential still for the Silver Daisy. Where? National League. third base.
Starting point is 00:58:40 Oh, we skipped that? I don't know how many times I'd tell you guys. We skipped it, but nobody. This also looks like to be a runaway, and Machado's been out for 10 days now. They never put him on the IL, which is crazy to me, but he's been out for 10 days. Still, his numbers are heading shoulders above everybody else. Hopefully he returns back because he will be in line for a Silver Daisy because I'm voting for him to win this also.
Starting point is 00:59:04 No contest, my opinion. NC IMO no contest in my opinion oh I didn't what the fuck was that is he oh him and Tommy Edmund oh no so okay last we're trying to be done with this episode we got through everything but Tommy Edman if he wins the next three months at short stuff which might be tough for him you know you got a couple good guys there do you get a silver though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:43 You run the gauntlet. If you get every month, your Don's playing a similar game. Ah, shit. He might not even get a daisy. He might have enough pedals to make up a daisy, but he might not get a daisy because they're limited. Like if he doesn't have majority of the pedals at shortstop,
Starting point is 01:00:05 he doesn't get that daisy. If he doesn't have majority of the pedals at second, he doesn't get that daisy. So he might not even get it. You could run the gambit. You could win every month. month, but not get a daisy if you're too versatile. I think they're a year, Daisy.
Starting point is 01:00:19 Like, I think it would be a 20, 22, Daisy. So they're not limited. I could get on that. They're limited. We're seeing too many people moving around right now. We're adjusting to the game, you know. I will, I will say this isn't going to be a problem next year if the shift gets instituted. People are going to play positions.
Starting point is 01:00:40 as we stand right now. Brandon Nimmo, congratulations. You're still in line for a Silver Daisy and Center Field. Mike Trout, congratulations. You're still in line for a Daisy and Center Field, Silver Daisy and Center Field. And then the only other one is Manny Machado. And then Tommy Edmund,
Starting point is 01:01:01 if we decide that a Silver Daisy can be multiple positions. Yeah. And if we were to go vote the way that we are now in Outfield, Judge would be eligible. but we can't retroactive judge probably not going to do that your don also in line for that with his left field month last month oh yeah your don's going to have a misshapen daisy or whatever oh my gosh i just saw that what's going on here the crooked daisy crooked daisy i like the crooked daisy some of my best friends have a crooked
Starting point is 01:01:29 daisy i don't hold that against them you know i knew an australian that had a left turn signal basically. Our guy Nick just shoots out. Question before we get out of here, can I ask who we landed on for an L starting pitcher? Sandy. Sandy. Sandy.
Starting point is 01:01:46 Thank you. Sandi. Accentata. Didn't Blevancy Alcantra? We don't even know people's names. We don't know positions. Yeah, but I will say this, and nothing against Trev and all MLB players.
Starting point is 01:01:59 They don't know how to pronounce their teammates names for shit because they just call them nicknames. Nicknames. I mean, we've talked to Yankee players who have just like no idea how their own teammates pronounced their actual name because they just call them nicknames. And Sandy's a great name. Sandy's a great name. Like Todd Frazier didn't pronounce Glaber correctly.
Starting point is 01:02:18 And he was his like, you know, on the Yankees. Actually, they were never teammates. But they're not a good resource because they just call each other by nicknames. Damn. Treb, is that kind of true? That's true. Yeah. He's a media guy now.
Starting point is 01:02:34 I know. But the media. If it's Alcantra, I'm going to be so pissed because we were in Alcantra pod. And our own audience just told us we were wrong. And then we were bludgeon to death. And I listened to him to say it a lot and the Spanish announcers. And I think that's a little bit of just the white people not refusing. Like Robert.
Starting point is 01:02:55 It's not Robert. He just got sick of correcting Americans. Yeah. I've had that one from the start. Bro be. Since we had that big. All right. All right.
Starting point is 01:03:10 There we go. People will be happy about this graphic. My goodness. The graphic has to say April through June. Nobody on ice? Maybe some asteris. I don't know. Nobody's on ice.
Starting point is 01:03:22 Zero ice, baby. I'm going to dab right now. Big soaps.
