Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball Tampa defends the turf kind of J-Ram. We're going to talk about it, maybe tee up tomorrow a little bit. Let's talk ball, though. That's what we do. What's that guy's name? Kyle Barraclaw. Evan Longoria. Oh, get it out of the ocean.
Starting point is 00:00:28 That's a cricket reference. Hello, and welcome to Talking Baseball. It's presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. if you're locking in. Baseball bets, Fanatic Sports Casino is the place to do it. Winning hits different here. I'm Jake Storelli, the denim man. That's Trevor the goof ploof out in L.A.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Getting ready for a big one tomorrow. Dalton Feeleys here in the sheet. Rob Chiracco's producing. And Trev, I don't know if it was the juiciest game of the postseason. But the race tied up in Tampa, low-scoring a fair playoff baseball. Kind of came down to one. Well, nothing comes down to one play, but there's going to be one we talk about a lot.
Starting point is 00:01:08 How are you doing, Coach? I'm doing great. I disagree a little bit. I think people in Tampa might disagree. They love this game, getting back in the series. I don't know what's going on with your wardrobe. Are you trying something new? Is this a costume?
Starting point is 00:01:22 Are you cosplaying in 90s? You want the truth? Yeah. You can't handle the truth. Sorry, Pat. Got me. Nice reference. No, it's been a weird running joke in the company now.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Taylor Jackson, one of our favorite people on this show, shut up Brewers. Taylor, one day she wore like a sick denim-on-d denim outfit. And I was like, Taylor, if you're going to go denim-on-denum, you need to tell me before you come into work. And then that became like a joke in the office. Anytime anyone wore denim, I'd be like, yo, if you're going to wear denim, you've got to let me know. And so the other day on my birthday, yesterday, they all wore denim without me.
Starting point is 00:02:01 So I was Michael Scott on the outside looking in. I got to say you got to be kind of like a manly man to wear denim so I don't know if you pull that off thank you thank you all right go on you got one more it felt like you had one more I actually kind of had that lined up I just you just walked right into it I love you so much we're just happy belated I don't know we had an off day uh sorry about sorry about your guy nine they know it's a long season they're going to be fine and I think you me were just happy jollies you know me and nine did today? What's that?
Starting point is 00:02:35 We sat and watched our daughters at soccer practice and we shared a bag of seeds. What a treat. It was a beautiful night. That's just really nice. It was. What kind of seeds, if you don't mind me asking? Oh, they were that Japanese brand, like cha-cha, I think it is. Okay. A coconut flavor.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Delicious. Best of the quality of the sunflower seed. If you know, you know. One more thing before we get into the game, an upcoming game, I swear. Are you good with seeds? Oh, yeah. I mean, I know. I would assume so.
Starting point is 00:03:08 I'm like a squirrel. I could, they can just be. Oh, you can be pouched up and just nice. Would you say compared to teammates you were considered better at handling seeds? Like,
Starting point is 00:03:19 do you have a teammate that you know that was like a, no, I'm not making this dirty. No, no, no. Swear on my life. No,
Starting point is 00:03:25 I mean, I think most baseball players can, can, right, you're around a lot of seats. We just spit seeds. We can blow a bubble. We get spit.
Starting point is 00:03:35 That's it, huh? Let's get into the game. It's game two to decide the American League. Cleveland and Tampa. It's time for the ALCS burn, brought to you by Best Western. Game two in the trop in the race would turn to fastball. Freddie. Former Brewer met Freddie Peralta while Perc, while Messick would try to keep Tampa in the park.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And so he did. It's scoreless into the fourth, but that was also the problem. Too much edging for J-Ram. The ball squirts past him, and then this hicks, this hicks. Unstoppable. Former Fish, current Ray, Liam makes it 3-0. Peralta, six innings pitch, zero-er-runs, 6Ks for Fredward.
Starting point is 00:04:33 But DeLauder they come, DeLauder they go, Chase with the RBI double. but that's all the guards would get Peralta to Kelly to Seymour to Baker, Tampa, ties up the series with a 3-1 fine. Make sure you get your double points on every qualified stay at more than 4,000 hotels worldwide with Best Western. Life's a Trip. Make the most of it, book direct and save at bestwestern.com. Coach?
Starting point is 00:05:01 You're lucky I'm a professional. Same. You're lucky I'm a professional. I can keep going. after that. Where do we even start here, Coach? Where do we even start? It's your question every time. I don't know. It is. It's interesting.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I don't know how people want us to do these episodes. Clearly there's one massive play here. I guess we go with the starters, right? We go with the starters. Parker Messick, who's had a lot of success against the raise this year, who's really, you know, I don't know if he's, he pitched well tonight. He deserved a lot better.
Starting point is 00:05:35 His dad was in the stands, getting all jazzed up. I thought that was really cool. I wanted to see his face after J.R. I made that air. We'd always love to see that. They did one going into commercial that it looked like it was. It looked like it was him reacting to that play, which kind of tough. And by the way, the side view of him, and our guy might not love this, little Peter Moyland.
Starting point is 00:05:59 A little Peter Moyland and the dad. I didn't get that. Yeah. There was one cut. they showed the mom and she was like full mom like jitters and I was like I actually don't like this please do not show that yeah I mean imagine how nervous you are for your son can't it's like nothing else matters in the world except for him getting an out it's it's amazing love that love moms on the other side Freddie Peralta who's just been fantastic for them since coming over at the
Starting point is 00:06:26 deadline he what he goes six scoreless um 0.81 era over his last eight starts with a regular season the postseason for the race. He had almost a five. He had a five with the Mets before the deal and the raise were able to work the magic with him and he continues that into the postseason. So I don't know. I think that was the beginning. These guys both lived up to what they were supposed to do in this game. Parker Messia again, like, you know, gives up the three runs all unearned. I think we kind of, I think that's where we go, coach, to that inning. Yeah, I think both starters came now. You were wondering how each team is going to look after this. There was a fun. We were doing, you know, like fake Chris Rose questions, like which team is this more important for?
Starting point is 00:07:12 And I think my Chris Rose Baseball Today answer, which, by the way, have we heard from Chris Rose yet? Because he was at Dancing with the Stars for this game. He had his phone turned off. He decided to turn it off. So I think he, I told him that the two things he could do are Apple watch it up and just kind of like check the box or whatever. Or turn it off. record the game and go home, watch it. I think he's doing the latter. He definitely is and, like, still hasn't turned his phone on. That's pretty wild.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Don't watch the bottom of the fourth. Yeah, fast forward that. Yeah, both starting pitchers bring it. Messick, not a ton of strikeouts tonight. It's interesting looking back on that and just, again, thinking of the Ray's approach. Yeah, dude, I think it does build up on this, the one inning, the fourth inning.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Camerro, full pitch walk. So how about that? And the 2-2 pitch could have been challenged. It was a weird, it was an up-and-away slider, so it's not what they were looking for. But I don't know, Treb, now do we, I guess how much do you still question pitches like that? Because back in the day, we kind of didn't think of it
Starting point is 00:08:18 if you saw a catcher reach across and be like, that was a clear miss. But now that we have the box, I mean, again, looking back at this game, that could have changed a ton. It's just so difficult, so hard on these catchers. They have the same reaction to Will Smith. with a couple pitches for Yamamoto in that game between the Brewers and the Dodgers. So these guys do such a good job of knowing the strike zone.
Starting point is 00:08:40 And now we're so spoiled because we have the box on TV. I think if we took the box off TV, I think people would not even, you know, you don't bat your eye at stuff like that. We're like, oh, it's clearly on or off. And, you know, guess what? They don't have the box. Yeah. I know they're there.
Starting point is 00:08:56 But you can't fall to him. No, that's, Trev, that was. It was perfect. If the box wasn't on TV, I don't think we'd even be mentioning it. Yeah. So there's that aspect to it. Yeah. So basically, the bottom of this raised lineup came through for them.
Starting point is 00:09:15 And every time Chandler Simpson is up, like if he makes contact, there's a chance, a pretty damn good chance. Yeah. He's going to get to first base and he ends up having this infield single here on a, I guess we want to show the double play first. I'm sorry. Sure. You can show that. or the non-double play. Non-double play.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Call the double play on the field. Victor Mesa Jr. gets down the line. They end up challenging both. Rokio was on the base year. And then early southern Nathaniel Lowe just comes off just a little bit. So it ends up being runner on first base, one out instead of nobody on two outs.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Yeah. Man, Victor Mesa Jr., it feels like he's impacting a lot of these games, even though, you know, not every box score, but he's, you feel him on the field. And then Chandler Simpson, like you started teeing up. I mean, he's just, you wonder, I guess we wondered if we'd ever see a Chandler Simpson again. And I don't want to be rude to him because his speed, you know, it's not like there's a lot of kids in their backyard that can say,
Starting point is 00:10:21 hey, let me be Chandler Simpson. Like, no, you need to be one of the fastest people on the planet. but on Tampa, on the turf, with the way he turned his season around, he hits what we know as a Baltimore chop, which might get renamed. And then how about the base running here by Mesa Jr., just doing the run through that gets into third base? Yeah, I mean, he sees it all the way that's, you know, we're getting shortstop third base been kind of in the middle there.
Starting point is 00:10:47 And even those, even if Ramirez gets back to third base there, it's going to be some sort of a pass pattern of a throw. So it's worth the, I mean, if Nate Lowe wants to throw that, go ahead, dude. Because chances are you're going to miss and he's going to end up scoring. So yeah, a nice, aggressive but also just smart base running by him. So it does make it first and third right there. And we do have two outs because our guy Midnight Johnny struck out in between the Chandler Simpson single and the Victor Mesa Jr.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Fielder's choice. So two outs first and third, Parker Messick does the dance. thing gets the ground ball and man when that happened i said what happened right there like he i didn't like the way that hose arre meres approached that ball um and when you got the the replay as we're getting it right here you see it does it just kind of hits that lip and what he was he thought was going to happen it was going to hit the turf it was in a bounce up you see him kind of come up with the ball but hos will tell you you just got to go get it you got to go get that short hop as best you can and you read it right away and you go as soon as you i tell my youth team on this all the time if you're
Starting point is 00:12:00 not going forward for it you better back up for it because if you stay in place for a ball like that it's it's a recipe for disaster so um you know bad hop you could say but i also think it's more of go get that hop like he had a chance to uh take what maybe like one maybe one and a half steps and reach his glove out one hand to go get that either on the hop or on a short hop right there. He makes that play, I think, 99 times out of 100. This one, he just read it wrong, tried to stay back on it, and it took the bad hop. And he gave himself no chance for adjustment right there. When you're flat-footed like that and you got like this action, like it's just, you're not, it's not happening for you. And so they get that run there. And then Liam Hicks.
Starting point is 00:12:47 We talked all about, and they mentioned this on the broadcast too, all about the guardians and their trade deadline and how much they impacted game one. And here comes Liam Hicks. And he's like, I'll make it three nothing. Pretty swing. I mean, you know, sometimes that feels dumb in baseball when it's a nice hit. But it just was. Like that was everyone's reaction when we were doing the live stream.
Starting point is 00:13:10 And yeah, I mean, really tough because before this was kind of when they were showing the Messick parents. Yeah, I guess I want to go back to the J-RAM play because, you know, when it comes to third base, I think people are here for me, not you. Watching that replay, I guess is there anything else we should be looking for? Like, you know, he's kind of playing a medium depth there. Like, is that, if you're doing that, should you be more conscious that you're near the lip? Like, I don't know. Like, what else should we be looking for on that play?
Starting point is 00:13:41 And I do like what you're saying. You can almost tell by J. Ram's reaction, like, you know, you do go get that ball. But, dude, that's also bang, bang, and you're on the turf, and you can't tell how hard that ball's hit in the moment that it's, it's a tough, like if that ball doesn't hit the lip, I think J. Ram feels that cleanly. But it may be like the way you're coming up like this, it's, it's, you're trapping it anyway.
Starting point is 00:14:03 So it's not going to be super clean with it. I do think he was in a little bit of like no man's land. If we're talking about lips and like kind of at that, you know, at the third base position, you're constantly dealing with the cutout. And you have to know, okay, what's this cutout look like? Some are different than others. It is a weird thing with baseball, how some places have a rounded off cut, some places have squared off, and you just have to know what you're doing there.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I try to not be in a spot where I would get hops like that. You either got to get, for me, if I'm like, whatever reason he was playing, basically he was playing like level with the base. I don't know why. Maybe for a bunt just to stop. I don't know how much Ben Williamson has bunted this year. So I'm not really sure why he was there. but if I'm going to play up and there's someone that I'm maybe
Starting point is 00:14:51 worried about a little two out first and third bun I'd play, I'm just on the lip I'm all the way up like on the grass or the turf in this instance I never want to play like one to two steps behind it, maybe one but not two because that puts you in that weird position
Starting point is 00:15:07 he could have been back I'm not really I'm not really sure why he was playing where he was playing yeah I mean that you had you know Mesa Jr's getting a lead off third is he thinking about that a little bit? You know, Williamson potentially putting down a bunt or, you know, I don't have Ben Williamson's spray chart on me.
Starting point is 00:15:27 It looks like three bunt attempts this season. So, again, he's played limited time. So it's something he has in his bag, but is he going to do that? Yeah, so if that's in the scouting report, you're like, okay, I at least got to take it away. And maybe he was thinking I'm, because sometimes at third base you play the cat and mouse game of,
Starting point is 00:15:44 I'm up enough or he's not going to bunt, but I'm giving myself, at the same time, I'm giving myself room where they can't, like kind of scream one by me. So that's the, that's the game you play.
Starting point is 00:15:55 A lot of times you'll show one pitch up. Right. And then you move back, or in the middle of the pitch, you kind of take another step back. You're just showing the hitter, hey, I'm up here, you can't bunt.
Starting point is 00:16:04 And then you're trying to get as much space as possible to increase your range. But yeah, I didn't like where he played. I didn't like how he played it. And I think he would tell you the exact same thing. Yeah. And it was,
Starting point is 00:16:17 you know, I think you and I are wondering how to do the rest of this game because you could zoom in a lot. I mean, I guess the next jumping point, I mean, I want to do more snaps for Freddie Peralta and even probably end the game with Freddie Peralta because I jokingly on the stream, I was like, what does fastball sit at this year? Like, 94-5? 94-3 on the season. And, man, he was, I think we saw a 99 tonight, like steady 97, which, again,
Starting point is 00:16:45 in a world where, you know, sometimes we have debates on how much VLO matters. If you're someone like Freddie Peralta, that fastball goes up, that change up goes, like, everything. He looked nasty tonight, and it's, you know, he was the ace for the Brewers before they found this other sicko that they have now. And good for him, like in what's been a kind of gnarly contract year for him, like you mentioned, the way he finished up September and now with this outing. Oh, he's he's completely regained whatever he lost when he was with the Mets. Please put that. Please put that on the soundboard. Rob, next time Jolly's here.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Is that not the truth? No, it's 100%. I mean, he's talked about it. Yes. The guy went to the Mets and lost a ton of money. Going into his free agency year, people are like, okay, your platform year, not good. Now, do you have a track record? Sure. But is this where we're going to get going forward?
Starting point is 00:17:46 And he goes to the raise. And instead it's like, oh, like, hey, you're still a really good pitcher. And he's shown it. And now teams like, okay, like he is who we thought he was. So I think he's, it's been a massive end of the year for him. And obviously, he's been great for the race as well. Cleveland did have a few more chances. Yeah, let me.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Trev, you know I'm not normally the stats guy, but some of these Peralta numbers are wild. Fastball average 96.9. That was the highest of his career. He threw 71 of 99 four-seat fastballs in this generation of like, you know, do you need to be one of these six pitch guys? Or like, you know, you got to have three to be a starter. Dude, if you got the one good one, man, you can make that work.
Starting point is 00:18:32 If you locate it where he was locating it today and have that change up to play off of it, yeah. I mean, like, yes, yes. It's funny because we'll look at this and be like, oh, you can't just do that. But it's like, if that's your good pitch, you just spam it. Go. Throw that good pitch. You're right.
Starting point is 00:18:51 The guards did have a few other chances. We get Joe Adel in a big spot. Chase DeLotter, him, you know, as of yesterday, he was the bad man in the series and J. Ram. J. Ram also had a couple tough outs, a couple quick at bats in this game. but basically after that point it came down to the seventh inning where De Lauder he does have the double
Starting point is 00:19:13 where they also could have sent Kwan there? I thought they might send Kwan there. I wasn't really sure why they didn't. I just feel like if you can get it to within one run and it's just one solo pop away from tying the game
Starting point is 00:19:27 you do it. I never really got a good look I guess I'm going to get one right here as to where he was when the ball came in the infield. Do we have a better look at that? Yeah, we have the high home. here so I can, I know this is probably small on your screen, but, uh, you got Mesa going to the corner. He retrieves it, throws it into Palacios. Palacios gets it in Kwan. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Probably a good hold from what I'm seeing right here. And again, it is small on my screen. Yeah, the, the only, well, the, the two counters here is you have Joe Adele coming up versus lefty. Although if we're doing a lot of Kevin Cash decision making, Ian Seymour is better, uh, he's reverse splits. De Lauder is one of the better verse lefty hitters that, like, that one, I don't know, that was an interesting move, but then Joe Adele is coming up, who's normally a lefty mauler, but again, that's the side Cymour's better against. He does get him striking out, and it wasn't a very pretty at bat, that, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:24 I think the guards are maybe, hey, it's a borderline send. We have Adele coming up in a spot that should, in theory, be good for him. Yeah, that high home doesn't help. I guess the other thing, if you're Cleveland and you're just thinking, about that one. It does the relay man is Richie Palacios, who's a little more of an offensive platoon player for him. That's how he came in this game. And you see the throw he has coming in, but the runner's not going. But yeah, it's just two outs and Stephen Kwan going down the line. In our heads, I think everyone thought he was going to initially score.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Yeah, and I guess give Mesa Jr. credit for getting in as quick as he did. He can throw. Because if there's any sort of, you know, misstep or Bobble, I think they do send Kwan, but the relay was clean. They got it in and then they'd have slopped on. Yeah, I think we were all on the same page that maybe we would have liked to have seen a little bit more aggressive of SEND there. Joe Dale did in the top of the fifth. He flew out to end the inning.
Starting point is 00:21:18 So there's the rallies that they had. He was up with a chance to do it, did not get the job done tonight. That was basically the difference in the game is you have the J.RAM area that's one in. And then Liam Hicks, first pitch slider that drives in the run. So like, you know, when you're up with running and scoring position, you got to do it, Pa. I'll tell you what, coach. Yeah, I mean, the rest of the game, because that's the seventh inning, everyone goes down one, two, three, the rest of the way, both sides.
Starting point is 00:21:44 So 12 outs to end the game, which, hey, as this series develops, I know Cash was getting a lot of junk for not using Baker, and maybe he gets to save him for an outing. Maybe he doesn't, I don't know. Some couple arms in the guards pen do their job. But yeah, it was a tough moment watching this game. Because, you know, the Rays played a good baseball game. with seven hits to six hits.
Starting point is 00:22:07 It was kind of a tough moment being like, wait, they only scored on the error inning. The chopper double play ball, or excuse me, the Chopper Simpson ball, the not turn double play. Like that was, that was a little jarring after nine innings being like,
Starting point is 00:22:25 oh, that's a little gnarling. How many of these games come down to that, though? Isn't it fun? We always say, every plays under a microscope in the playoffs. You have to take advantage of the extra 90 feet that you get.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Good teams do that. Razor a damn good team. Yeah. Yeah. I got one for you. Please. Perfect. Patrick Bailey's been like the best hitter in the big leagues in the postseason. He's just absolutely crushed the ball, which is shocking. As you followed his career, it really hasn't always been that way.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Or at least, you know, definitely not this year. He's turned the pitch. Parker Messick has sort of a personal catcher. Hedges? Did you have a problem with him starting tonight? I did not. I mean, I know they've split time through the year and then we're like, oh, how much is it? Like there's a, you know, we got a group of baseball people in the room and then we're like, 31 out of 32 and then the two playoffs starts. So like, hey, man, it's one of those situations where during the season, sometimes that's fun. And, hey, when you got catchers,
Starting point is 00:23:30 you need to give them days off and it feels that way. When Patrick Bailey starts having a postseason, then it becomes a lot more interesting. That for this start, I mean, you're Cleveland, you're up one nothing in the series. Hedgy had a very nice season that, like, I think you just go, okay, yeah, but I mean, if we get to another Parker Messex start and depending how Bailey or Hedges is playing,
Starting point is 00:23:54 that becomes a massive conversation. And it's why some people, like, it's one of Jim's big things that, like, a personal catcher kind of makes him sick because sure there's a beauty to, like, what Greg Maddox used to have. But then there's a postseason side to it that you can put yourself in handcuffs a little bit.
Starting point is 00:24:11 But I don't blame that for what happened here today. If a ball goes in J-Rams glove that I think, you know, you said he makes 99 out of 100, we could be talking about how Hedgy caught a shutout today. So I don't mind it at all. I just think when the guy like Patrick Bailey gets on a heater, you got to let him ride it out. Because, and you knew he was going to come in the game,
Starting point is 00:24:33 as soon as Messick was done. You knew that was going to happen. That's the one thing as a manager I would worry about. I got this guy, he's hot. If I sit him and he misses the day, gets one a bat, whatever it is. What if that turns that faucet off, dude? And they need him.
Starting point is 00:24:49 They need every single bat that they can get. I know their offense had been going pretty good until tonight. Last like four games. But I like to keep my guys hot. They're in there. You got to put it. You ride the hot hand in the postseason. So I didn't love the move.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I can see the argument for the other side and maybe wanting to get Parker Messick making sure that he gets back on track. But you can say like, you know, hedges caught in the last two times, short outings in the postseason. And it's like, okay, maybe it's time to switch up and I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:25:24 The next time Messick's spot in the rotation comes up, I bet there's a different decision. Yeah, and that's, you know, vote before the game. is saying we want Parker to be the best version of himself, and we think that's with Austin. That, yeah, I think sometimes we can get in our way a little bit, because even if you like their connection and there's something there, and again, Parker Messick is like a rookie, like, I don't know, and Hedges is a veteran. Like, so is Bailey and he's also a defensive stud.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Yeah, so I'm saying there's not, the defensive thing isn't there. Normally that's like part of the caveat when it comes to these situations. But that's where I would look back at the regular season, be like, we didn't, we didn't try this like five times? Like there wasn't, I don't know. That used to come up with the Dodgers because who was like Kershaw's catcher? Wasn't it? Austin Barnes.
Starting point is 00:26:11 And so like, and then you get in the playoffs. You're like, we're like, we're not starting Austin Barnes. So like, yeah, I think at the end of the season, you kind of got to like start to mix the other guy in a little bit. Yeah, that personal catchers. I think you need, I'm cool with it, comma, use the other guy sometimes because you might need it. Like, what if he gets hurt before the playoffs?
Starting point is 00:26:32 It's like, that blows my mind. And the other thing is that once a month, teams don't use their closer for multi-inning outings. Because, like, if you get to the postseason, you're going to do that. So why not? Like, once a month. Interesting. I'm just a guy in a denim jacket who loves me some neuter fall.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Every guy in the clubhouse has a routine. Same order, same time. Every day. Nobody gets to October by winging it. Your hair works the same way. Neutrefall men isn't a Hail Mary. It's a routine in the official hair growth partner of Major League Baseball. Step one, the men's 2-1-champoom conditioner dissolves, build up, and replenishes hydration.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Step 2. Men's hair serum is lightweight, fast-absorbing. It helps improve visible thickness. Step 3 does the heavy lifting. 4 capules a day. Can't say that word. With a meal. Two formulas, Nutrafall, men for visibly fuller hair, and men 50 plus that helps hold on to the hair you have.
Starting point is 00:27:27 All of it, physician formulated, clinically tested, and 100% drug-free, and the only hair crow supplement NSF certified for sport. Three steps, same time every day, give it three to six months and watch what happens. Find the routine built for you at Nutrafall.com slash men. That's Nutreful.com slash men, the official hair growth partner of Major League Baseball. Trave, you mentioned it before we jump to, you know,
Starting point is 00:27:49 we got a game tomorrow and then we'll have the next game of this one. I will say, I don't know if this ends up being a Jolly Olive video, as we should give him some love and we thank Jolly for filling in. He's the best. I know we're tough. We give him some little brother love sometimes, but that means we love them. Exactly. Man, you got to know that, y'all.
Starting point is 00:28:06 These, uh, Trev, we can only hear so much of the broadcast. The trade deadline, dude, Freddie Peralta and Liam Hicks. I mean, the Guardian guys in that first game, like, uh, this, this series has some potential if you're, if you're looking for impact pieces when we talk future deadlines. I mean, and I mean, a starting pitcher who had Peralta's pedigree, kind of lost it over half a season. And then the year Liam Hicks was having as a catcher and everyone was just like, I don't know, he's a Marlin. And it's just like, I don't know, he's playing out of his mind.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Like they got him with years, dude. Yeah, Victimesa Jr. As you mentioned, I don't even like talk about the bottom of the lineup today. I was like, that doesn't even really include Victimasa Jr. Because he's kind of been doing it. He hit cleanup today. He hit cleanup today, yeah. It was funny.
Starting point is 00:28:54 They started off the broadcast because they got Ron Darling met. and they got BA who does the play for the brewer. So they all know Freddie Peralta. And so they all had their kind of like takes on like, well, he used to do this. And now he did this. And I thought it was good banter because they truly, truly know this guy.
Starting point is 00:29:15 They've seen him pitch so many times. I thought that was good. But yeah, they were talking about, gosh, now I'm forgetting his name right now. Is it Chris Antonetti, president of baseball ops for the Guardians? I think so. They showed him before the game, right?
Starting point is 00:29:30 Yeah. They were talking about him and how happy he was yesterday. And then, okay, now you go to here and it's Eric Neander and the guys that he brings in. By the way, we don't talk about Eric Neander enough on this show. You're right. One of my favorite guys. He shot me straight to my face. And I'll never forget that.
Starting point is 00:29:47 That doesn't sound. That didn't sound right. Oh, yeah, clip that. He looked me in the eye, told me that he was going to send me down but bring me back up. And he did. And a lot of guys would lie about that or just. not even do it. But I've always had it.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Yeah, a big respect for the Tampa Bay front office there. And clearly, the rest of the league does too because everybody's from the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Not that I've ever daydreamed of my team getting a new GM, but if they were and you start playing that game, like, okay, actually, Trev, this is fun to play with you. Who, if Brian Cashman, like, retired, because he has had an amazing career and the Yankees' GMs, spot was open. I mean, it starts with like Neander and Theo Epstein are the two I think of. Crazy. You left the biggest one out. Sam Fult. My bad. Yeah. He's like the guy. Wait, you're serious? I'm not even kidding. Yeah. Oh my gosh. You're insane if you don't. He's the smartest guy in sports right now. I'm, I'm being dead serious. I mean, you know I'm not out on Sam Fult.
Starting point is 00:30:54 You're giving him more credit than Neander? The roles that he has filled, I think, are more applicable to a new hire than anybody else. I know these guys have a track record, but Sam's been with the race. He's been small market. He's now under Dombrowski, so he's learned that end of it as well. He's gone to like the Wharton Business School.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Like they sent him there on top of a Stanford education. What more? The guy played in the big leagues was a grinder. Can relate to all the guys in the club. He speaks Spanish. What else are we doing here? The A's tried to get him. He's like, no.
Starting point is 00:31:33 He's like, fuck that. I'm not a Vegas guy. Like, you know where he lives? There we go. Give the address. I think he, I think he moved. He's closer to like the Philadelphia area. But I believe he was like in Connecticut,
Starting point is 00:31:45 which is where a lot of the rich people that like live in New York go, right? That was the going to be part of the cell. Isn't that true? All right. Okay. I'm kind of in. I'm kind of in. You're welcome, Sam.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Just freaking singing your praises everywhere. Just answer my text when I send him. That's all I ask. All the Raising Guardians fans are now, shut the fuck on. You too. Let's see. We're going game three in Cleveland. Chris Rose will be watching.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Gavin Williams will be lined up. Last time we saw him, he was taking the team to this championship series and looking like one of the best pitchers in baseball. Your guy Griffin Jacks, thank you for your service. He will be getting the pill initially for Tamp. in one of those, you know, pitch as long as you can rolls, essentially. And it looks like Nick Martinez is going to be game four. I mean, I think it was really important that Tampa won this game.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Going 2-0, going up against Gavin Williams, that seems like a tall task. I love Griffin Jacks. He's one of those guys that he can come out and match Gavin Williams' pitch for pitch on his best day. I've seen it. Like, he's got the stuff to do it. But, yeah, I mean, this is.
Starting point is 00:33:01 is this one to me is an uphill battle for the guard for the race just because Gavin Williams seems to like be rounding into form not putting it past the raise to do it against him but right now he's he's kind of that guy yeah I'll be interested to see I mean hey there hasn't been a ton of action against Gavin Williams I wonder if that raised baseball you know some I don't know how Gavin Williams field so I don't want to be sizes right now but if I was the raise and I wanted to shake up the big I might drop a Chandler Simpson Bund and see, see how that looks. You know, sometimes that's how you can mess with those guys.
Starting point is 00:33:40 And, you know, the race, depending how they do their lineup that day, they could have a lot of guys that can mess with them. Because if he's on, he just showed, like, you don't, he's not a guy that your best beats him a lot. If he's going to look like he did last start, you're going to have to be creative to score and get him out of the game. I just look at Griffin Jacks, no starts against. or even appearances against Cleveland at all this year.
Starting point is 00:34:05 So it'll be their first time seeing him. His stuff is nasty when it's right. That will be, what time is it? Wow, it's not past midnight yet. That'll be Thursday. Tomorrow night, your guy, our guy, Snell, taken on Bobby Gasser. Dynasty on the line, coach?
Starting point is 00:34:23 Yeah, I mean, yes. Kind of, right? Yeah, absolutely. Bobby Gasser, what's he doing that? What are you rooting for in that series? Truly. I'm ruined for Milwaukee. I like the way they've done everything.
Starting point is 00:34:36 People that know the company. I mean, going back to the hot dog, like the sausage race. Sorry. Sorry, Milwaukee. They've been very nice to us as like a company, like their social media team and stuff that there's that. And like, I don't know, do I have a little bit of dumb Yankee pride that wants to be the last three P?
Starting point is 00:34:55 Unfortunately, I mean, there's part of me that wants to shake it during some of my dark moments. But yeah. Gavin Williams, seven and two-thirds, five hits, zero earned runs against Cleveland and the only start I see, against Tampa, excuse me, the only start I see. That was in April. Different team. Big, big time different team there.
Starting point is 00:35:17 He's still the same guy. Cleveland's going to be rocking. Yeah. That'll be sick. Do they still call it the Jake? That was always a cool thing for me growing up. I don't think anybody called. I mean, I never referred to it as the Jake as far as like when I played there or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:35:35 And now I'm getting... You're getting a phone call right now. Sam Fold? You know what Olivia did for me? Here we go. Here we go. I took a little practice. I said, Liv, you know what I want?
Starting point is 00:35:48 So I love to have some chili. I think I was like, I'm going to make some chili. And she's like, well, you got to make it because I just don't really feel like cooking tonight. So maybe I'll make it when I get back. But I knew like I was going to get back late. That wasn't going to happen. What's there? for me when I get home?
Starting point is 00:36:02 Nice big old crock pot of chili. It's like the first cold day we've had in L.A. And I got a nice bowl of chili. I'm so happy and so full. It's so nice. Do you take care of the car today? I saw there is you posted some content on social media. I did, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:22 I stopped to my local gas station where on Tuesdays, usually my guy is not there, but he was there. And so we had to laugh about it. We did the windshield wiper fluid. That was out. The tires pressure down. And only one of them, but really all four of them, the light was on for one of them. Changed the key out in the battery for her clicker.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Wow. Yeah. And there was one other thing I would do. I don't know. Was it one of those like weird little flat circular batteries? Yeah, it's horrible to get into those batteries. I did it though. That shit blows my mind.
Starting point is 00:36:53 What are we doing? What are we doing? Every now and then you got to track one of those down and you're like, what? Do you remember the series like a land before time? I don't even think that's what it was called. They used to put like crystals in like the batteries and then like those would work. Are you, a land before time is a dinosaur show.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Yeah, I kind of know what you're talking about. It's the animatronic dinosaur show. They had like, do you know what I'm talking about? No, not anymore. I think I was there. Not the father. Didn't they say that? The dinosaurs?
Starting point is 00:37:30 Yeah. Oh my God. I love that show, dude. Is it just called the dinosaurs? Yes, dinosaurs. Not the mama, not the mama. Not the mama. The great show.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Oh, yeah, they did. You kind of look like that baby. I do kind of look like that baby. I think that's just honest. That's why I had it. Okay. Feels like it might be getting late. Welcome to this episode of the Giggly Squad.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Thank you guys. We're back. tomorrow night? Why not? Dynasty on the line. Snell. Ponce. Jake sucks. Big Dad, I was texting with all my guys. He lost when he was with the Mets.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Oh, there it is. Jayflair, Joe Ryan. We're just getting in the back of the swing of things. Really? The boys are bopping. Boys are bopping. In the hood. Jay, Flair and Joe, that's an interesting. It's an interesting pitch mix. I don't know if I, that's a big one for me.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Yeah.
