Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
The first half has ended.
The All-Star break is here.
Let's chat all about it.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball, presented to you by Seat Geek,
coming to you live from the Shady Ray Studio in Los Angeles.
We're in Trev's hometown.
He's in the middle of the couch.
Jake is on the far side.
BPD is set up on the other side of the billiards.
table.
We're going to talk some baseball.
Someone just put sun tan lotion on?
Luke just walked in with sun tan lotion.
Unbelievable.
It's a good smell.
It's like a vacation smell.
Not bad.
Not bad.
Jake, how you feel over there?
Don't talk about Luke.
I'm feeling good, man.
We're in L.A.
We had a nice little soiree last night.
Mixing it up with the people of L.A.
You were.
You were mixing it.
Okay.
Dance a little bit.
Got a little handsy with me.
Okay.
I was wondering where that said.
send and you're right you're right uh so that was fun honestly my like go-to because you know i
when i'm in that setting i was in last night i have to talk to everyone i can't stop basically my
go-to thing was i'm so excited for the homerun derby because it's my favorite sporting event so i am
juiced up to get to the derby in a little bit wait that's what you're saying to everybody kind
it was like my yeah how are you i'm so excited to the homerbuby how does it even nobody like talking to
You're a nerd.
Nobody.
He was.
You know what, though?
How are you guys?
I'm good, man.
I'm so excited for the homerun derby.
It's one of my favorite sporting events.
We're going to be in left field.
Our necks are going to be broken.
I do think one of the John Boy media crew will get hurt tonight.
No, it's funny.
I'm thinking it's going to be jake in a broken nose.
The derby can actually be kind of miserable because we're going to be baking in the sun.
And we're in, like, scary home run ball territory.
Like, we have to pay attention.
Yes.
This isn't like leaves a head.
Like it's kind of phones down.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Which is going to be tough for three hours.
Joe's is getting hit.
Joe's will take a ball to the chest.
I brought an extra glove.
He go, what the fuck?
And then he'll have a great reaction video.
So, yeah.
We win.
I'm great.
You are great?
I'm great.
Thanks for asking.
Kind of like we just know it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All-Star games in L.A.
Safe assumption.
Yeah.
Nameless, Jeff, ad.
Yeah.
Nameless was all over that.
I definitely not handing people funky things last night.
I asked him.
I said, do you know how often your name gets said on the podcast?
And he was like, no.
I said, yeah, you're like a character.
Yeah, he is.
Yeah.
And he is.
Well, episode's going to be a little different today.
We're going to give our burns, like recaps, the baseball boogie.
The song's called of each N-L-A-L-I-L.
And then we're just going to have, like, kind of general thoughts about where the first half landed,
the standings going in and all of that.
So that being said, Jake.
And Jimmy, the whole show is brought to you by Shady Ray's.
We actually have a Shady Ray's model who's going to poke his head on the screen for a second.
If anyone's watching live on the YouTube, he's the Thunder down under Pierre Moylan.
Ever heard of International Hoddies?
Have you ever heard of international hotties?
Shady Ray's has.
And every pair, every pair, they're backed with their lost and broken replacement guarantee.
If one of our people
You make Jake look tiny
The way you're doing that
Massive
Jeff Passon is bigger than you
Yes I mean not thick wise
No no
Nobody's thicker to me
Total mass
We could go to the homerun derby
All of us leave our glasses there
And Shady rays will get us a new pair
You're bigger than Passon like
Soul
Like you have more soul than him too
Like when you die your soul's big
Like in a fight I would wreck Jeff
Yeah
He's so true
He's got a lot
we're quitting him.
Shady Ray's $20 off each premium
polarized sunglasses at Shadyrays.com
with code Jomboy AS.
That's All-Star.
Jamboy Oz.
John Boy, All-Star.
Shady Ray's is the best.
They're letting us do all this.
You need sunglasses this summer.
You need sunglasses in L.A., baby.
You do.
I might just leave my sunglasses at the game on purpose.
Just a test.
As an ad.
I just don't understand the business model.
Shady Ray's, you're doing something.
We might be blowing it.
Thank you.
Shady Ray's. Thank you to Peter Moyland. Pete, say hi.
Hi, everyone.
Hot take for the second half.
Brave's going to run away with the East.
And have more wins than...
The Jankies.
All right.
Okay. Wow.
He said he placed that bet with someone.
Interesting. More Braves wins than Yankees.
I have the NL.
Hit it, Chad. I like that bet, Peter.
I have the NL. And if you guys want to hear what happened in the NL,
you have to just listen up real quick.
Yeah, yeah.
The Brewers and the Giants played four games to end this season.
The Brewers took game one in extras.
They're going to go into the break strong.
Wrong.
Giants win the next three.
How about that?
Hater struggles continue.
He gave up three homers.
In a blown save.
Yikes-diky-di-ykes.
The Cubs and the Mets played four games.
The Mets one game one in a blowout, one game two in extras.
game three and extras.
Then they let the Cubs win game four.
So Cubs go into the break feeling great.
Mets down.
I don't think so.
I think the Mets are feeling great about themselves.
Besides some scary to Grom news.
I didn't see it.
Blummer hasn't happened.
They haven't released it yet.
They just teased it.
It might not be real.
Wow.
I can Google this?
The Braves and the Nationals played four games similar to the Mets.
The Braves won the first three and then lost the four.
because their heads were under the All-Star game, and they didn't care anymore.
Soto Homer's in the eighth inning.
Soto and Will Smith had a fun interaction.
Good times. Braves also rolling.
And now I think they're going to play the Angels without Trout.
They just keep getting good opponents.
Phillies, sweep the Marlins.
How about the Fills, man?
They hold the Marlins to one run over three games.
Nola, 8.1 shutout innings, 10 strikeouts.
The Reds and the Cardinals played two
Because game three got postponed
And the Cardinals swept the Reds
Good, that needed to happen
I'm happy about that outcome
Padres took two out of three
From the D-backs
Darvish versus Bumgarner
Two guys that were such prominent pitchers
That are afterthoughts for me now
Manaya versus Gilbert
Forgot Mania was on the Padres
He is
Totally forgot about that
Pirates and Rockies
They play three
three games, and the Rockies win the first two Pirates take the last one.
Another bad Kintana start brings his ERA to 399.
So trade value down.
That's the National League.
Clevenger's also on the Padres.
I know that, but when they traded for Mania, it was like a big deal.
But I feel like Musgrove has taken all the highlights.
even McKenzie I've heard more about.
Okay, I can see that.
And then you and Cleve.
I just kind of forgot about Sean Monia.
Mania would wreck Jeff Passing.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
He's huge.
There's a chance he could take all three of us.
Who?
Naya.
I mean, no.
Three of us?
I'm not going to help much.
Yeah, you'd underestimate our participation level.
Okay.
Well, I like shot.
So I might actually give a jab in your ribs.
I might just turn on you.
You two.
We're about to get a beat up.
Yeah, I was join Sean against you, too.
That's an easy victory.
Well, then we'd be against ourselves, too.
What should we talk about in the national league?
Standings.
Well, the standings.
Let's talk about the East.
The Mets.
I agree.
The Mets finish in first place, two and a half ahead of the Braves.
They're 58 and 35.
624 win percentage.
That's impressive.
Okay.
But the Braves are there.
I kind of like where this is standing.
The Phillies are winning.
I guess that's my question for you guys.
The Phillies go into the break on a three-game win streak.
They go into the break, six and four in their last 10, 12 and 8 in their last 20, 18 and 12 in their last 30.
So they've been playing a good brand of winning baseball for a little bit.
Not ever since the firing, really, right?
Like that's the one firing that's kind of been like, yeah, they launched them a little bit.
Well, the Madden one.
Other direction, plummet.
Launched them.
You launched them down.
Launch them to the depths up the sea.
I think the Phillies are going to get in the mix here more than people expect.
With trades or just the roster and going second half?
Potentially both.
Potentially, but I don't think they're going to make huge trades.
They don't need to, but Dombrowski's in charge.
Like if there's a guy that can go nut job and do something weird,
he's the guy and they're literally, that's their whole game plan.
So they're trading for Soto, guaranteed.
Soto to the Phillies.
The Phillies, when I first brought up the Sannings, they jump out.
because yeah, they have been playing a better brand
and can they even get in the mix with ATL and the Mets at some point?
I don't know.
But the other thing that jumps out here,
not to send us too far,
because this involves the Phillies,
is that it looks like the NL right now,
one team is going to be disappointed this year.
And it looks like it would be the Giants or the Phillies currently.
Giants, Phillies, St. Louis,
and Milwaukee are kind of all just joffered for that position.
I guess you can add the Padres too.
Yeah, I mean, it's going to be a lot of,
It's me a mess, but that's why they added the extra one.
Because they want a mess.
They want the races in September to be good, and they're going to be good.
Whenever I don't want people to miscontrue what I'm saying.
Okay.
I said the Phillies, I think, are going to get in the mix.
Right.
I still have the Braves and Mets.
I mean, in the end.
Phillies are kind of in the mix.
Yeah, they're in the mix.
But they can get further in the mix.
There ain't a half back.
Okay, so what do you do?
There's a gap.
I think they're going to, I think the three teams are going to look the same.
So you think.
You think there's a 10% chance the Phillies get in the mix for the NL East?
Yes, that's what I mean.
Okay, okay.
I'm a stats.
No, at the end of the day, I don't think they're going to win the division,
but I do think we're going to be looking at the East at one point.
And right now you would draw a line underneath the Braves and then the next tier.
And they're going to be a three tier.
Is Bryce Harper going to be back?
Yes.
Yeah.
Like, that's the biggest question, Mark.
I mean, Dombrowski has to, like, envision in his mind.
yes, Price's going to be back.
And that way he can go after and get people.
But also, are you trying to replace him for the time he's out?
Like, you're going to go out and get somebody, like,
you can't really replace Price Harbor,
but you can add to your roster and try to supplement a little bit.
Or do you just wait it out and address other areas?
Take Gallo.
They're saying that.
I think it, I think he would, I think he would welcome it.
I think he needs to get out of there.
That's for another day.
You might be out.
Anyway, Joey Gallo needs to do.
trade in his beard, hit one home run, and start over.
Yes.
And boy, do I know that thing.
Yeah, you do.
You like the Braves, Jake?
Can't grow a beard.
Do you think the Braves will make moves?
Don't hit home runs.
All three of these teams seem primed to, like, fight each other for trades.
So the other NLE's storyline, and the fish look like they're fading.
Sorry, Trev.
And the Nats, their storyline is the guy that's going to be rumored to go everywhere.
The Braves have a chance to fully go.
And, like, if they catch the Mets and they continue to go,
like, this is going to sound rude to Mets fans,
go check out Shay Station.
Don't tell this to Jolly and Jerry.
But if the Braves are three losses back,
three in the loss column back from the Mets,
that can happen quick.
This Braves team is bona fide, man.
Look at the kids they're calling up, Strider, Michael Harris, too.
Like, as an organization, the Braves need to be respected.
Yeah, we don't have put a...
series less.
We don't ever put them in the top tier of organizations,
but their window is exponentially open right now.
Like the Braves are going to be there at the end,
and they might be going.
Like, Peter, I mean, he's a shipback,
but he,
like he had that genuine crazy look in his eyes.
He's like,
I think the Braves,
the Braves have a chance to have more wins than the Yankees this year,
and the Yankees are on pace for, like, 108.
Oh, he thinks they're going to win more overall.
I thought it'd be in just second half.
I like this just the second half.
Now, let's say the Mets,
DeGrom and Scherzer, one of them gets hurt.
both of them get hurt, something like that.
Then you're talking about the Phillies and the Mets and the Braves going.
So I love the Braves.
I mean, I guess there's a little bit Metsy in the back of my head for the second half of the season,
but they don't deserve that.
They've been incredible.
They've been incredible, a dream first half.
They have faced adversity where in years past, yeah, we called it Metsy.
They got messy a little bit, but this year they've gone that way and it's been fine.
What happened with DeGrom?
Because Jolly was like, I can't believe Sailing DeGrom go down on the same day.
I've been looking to.
He got like a rumor of a rumor.
It's not something we should be saying on talking baseball.
Oh, it wasn't public?
No.
Oh.
Still isn't.
Still might not be true.
Yeah, it's not true that we know of.
I had no idea.
Dude, that would be, I would be like genuinely sad if Jacob de Grom was hurt.
Yeah.
You need to see those guys pitch on the same.
same team need to see them hot in September getting into a playoff series.
I mean, that's the scariest one-two combination in all baseball if they're healthy on the field.
I guess that's the bigger point.
For the Mets, they're going to be in October.
Yes.
It's, for them, it's pure health.
If those two bad boys are ready to go come October, man.
I mean, in a five-game set or seven-game set, they could start five of the games.
Four.
especially if they've done some short short notice starts before
is the east going to give the is the east going to get a buy
is the team that wins the east going to beat the team that wins the central i think so right
yes yes yes so yes for sure all right so then winning the east is very important
because you're probably going to have the second best record in the league
meaning you get a buy so say now
Now, the Braves and Padres, Braves and Cardinals, whatever,
the other two teams that are playing, the three games set, three in a row,
they're burning three pit, minimum two starters.
Yeah.
Imagine now going to play the Mets, and they have Scherzer and DeGrom,
and you have nor neither your three-four starter.
You're three-four.
That's how much winning the division can help you now.
It means a lot.
And you know Atlanta has their eye on that because, yeah, you want to win the division so you get that.
You also want to have home field advantage in that wild card, round two.
All three games in one spot.
So, you know.
I have a question.
Sure.
I don't know if you guys won't know the answer unless you oddly do.
Is there a break?
I don't think there's a break.
I think the team in the wild card are going to play game one, game two, game three, game one.
Well, you know what?
No, there's got to be a break because, A, if they win the first two games,
you'd have to have that third day built in anyways for game three.
Well,
but I'm saying that there's got to be a travel day.
Maybe not.
That's a long time to wait for the wild card winners.
I thought they were doing it in a row.
I'm getting it up right now.
I mean, they'll have them all staggered.
Yeah, sure.
It'll be like A-L-N-L.
Right.
But if the wild card goes three games,
I think they don't get a break.
I think I remember when it first came out,
articles were saying, like,
that's only like one more day than,
the one seat was getting under the old format.
Like, it's close.
I'd love a double check, but...
No, they don't have it down.
Yeah.
What else we got?
We're going to go out West?
Do you that already?
No, that's the East.
I think that's the good East conversation.
West is...
The Central's fun, and it's...
I'm going left to right here, so...
The Brewers and the Cardinals actually both end the first half with 50 wins.
But the Brewers...
only lost 43 games, and the Cardinals lost 44.
So, Brewers are in first place, but tied in the wind column, tied a lot of places.
Brewers got to go, dude.
This is the window.
And this is a two-team division.
Like the Pirates, Cubs, Reds, they're playing for different reasons in the second half.
Yes.
This is the Brewer's window.
You're not going to get a window like this where you have these horses that can throw the ball like they can.
and they're cheap.
Like, they're going to get very expensive if you want to keep all of them.
So, like, this is the time.
They've got to make some moves, but we've been waiting, and it just hasn't happened.
And I think, and I love, I love you, Yelly, so much.
You are the key, bro.
Like, if you can just get hot, just get hot, dude, that changes everything for them.
And he just hasn't yet.
He's been slightly above average, according to OPS Plus, at 106.
But they need him to be, like, middle of the order.
Christian Yelich.
They've played six games against each other,
or 12 games against each other,
and they're six and six.
And I believe that it was,
I believe it was a four-game set that they split.
Yep.
And then a four-game set that they split,
and then a two-game set that they split.
Split-y-split.
Like, they haven't left,
no, three, four-game sets, split.
But, huh, so they haven't left each other.
I mean, like, we just best of you in that series.
That's as even as it gets.
They play each other seven times.
And five of them are in St. Louis.
We're Milwaukee guys.
The brewers have been incredible to us.
Love the crew.
I like the Cardinals roster better.
Oh, yeah.
Their lineup is deep, man.
They're lineup for sure.
They're line-up.
You can talk about the pitching, I think, is pretty close.
But, dude, I think...
I mean, I think the Brewers have still a starting pitching advantage,
but Waino's doing it.
The Cardinals have arms.
There's just been some funky stuff going on.
Michaelis has had a good year.
Palante is listed as a starter now for them.
Matt's was out for a while.
He's back.
You know, Jordan Hicks, they were messing around with him starting yet.
He's in the pen now.
But at least he's there in the pen.
So, like, I think they have enough arms.
you just kind of don't know where they're all being lined up.
But I like the Cardinals.
I do kind of like the storyline of this deadline.
Those teams have to be looking at each other and be like, we're pretty.
We're pretty locked up.
Like one of us, I hope one of them makes the move.
Or I hope both of them makes the move and we go, okay.
I mean, some good news for Cardinals fans, we saw Jay Flair last night.
Hot.
Talking to him about his army says he feels great,
that there was like a slight mechanical issue.
that was causing his arm to drag a little bit,
so putting some extra pressure on his shoulder,
but he says he feels good, he's throwing,
he's doing, you know, he's rehabbing,
but he's going to be fine,
and he's going to be back,
and I think if we get that mechanical issue,
we clear it up,
and we get, like, a healthy J. Flair out there,
then, I mean, yeah, the Cardinals,
they're pitching is close enough
where I think, like, you could probably lean either way,
but I like the lineup of the Cardinals,
much more, much more.
I'm excited to see them set up their rotations for those series against each other.
Yeah.
And I really like...
When is it?
So they're spread out pretty decently.
The first one is August 12th in St. Louis, three games set.
And the Cardinals have an off day beforehand, or the Brewers have an off day beforehand.
I'm not sure if the Cardinals do, but that might help them set up their rotation a little better.
And then two games, September, 13, 14, again, the Brewers have.
have an off day before the series.
I don't know if that's positive or negative and bats-wise.
And then they play Tuesday the 27th.
And again, the Brewers have an off day beforehand.
Trevor, is that a benefit?
I mean, if you want to set up your pitching,
it helps with Wiggle Room.
I think it's, yeah, I mean, it's setting up your starters,
but also giving your bullpins and to come in,
rested, and you're going to have everybody available for these,
or at least the first game.
Bullpen rested is like, yeah, it's probably the biggest thing.
and then, you know, sometimes as a hitter, you don't like those days off.
You're feeling good.
You don't want to lose that muscle memory.
But I think it's definitely an advantage for the team that has the day off.
The Brewers or the Cardinals are going to be in Colorado and then fly home and play them no day off before the first series.
And then day off before the second.
And day off before a third.
Wow.
Those last two sets of two series are going to be, I hope they're fun.
I hope they hold weight.
That's a two.
Anything else in the Central, Jake?
I don't think so.
I mean, for the other teams, it's kind of Cubs.
It's time to sell, baby.
Sell, sell, sell.
You know, obviously, like the trade deadline,
bullpen guys, you're expecting that,
but will they make an in-hat move?
Wilson Contreras, dude.
He's starting the All-Star game.
His stats are nuts.
Nuts.
Dude's like for a hitting catcher, like one of the better hitting catchers,
like his OPS has to blow out Real Mudo's best years.
I know Real Mudo could run and I think he was playing elite defense at the time.
But like Wilson Contreras, Ian Hap, these are guys that if they're playing somewhere in October,
like, I think of some of the teams we just talked about, if you had those dudes,
like I know Yankee fans have been dreaming about Happer, like, if Ian Hap ends up in the Yankees like eight hole.
I don't think you
Put him in the middle
They would
He switch hits
I looked at teams
That the team catching war
Is the lowest
Of teams going to the postseason
Okay
Houston
St. Louis
And then Cleveland
If they're in the mix
Then the Mets
Mets have been rumored
Houston
That would be
I mentioned that on the show
I said
Can you get away from Aldonado
and Cash
I know they value defense there more than anything,
but they've got an abs.
I mean, talk about nothing offensively.
Well, has the kid been?
I know he debuted well.
Has he continued to hit?
You got to check that out.
This is the AL now that we're doing.
Oh, yeah.
Why are you talking about the AL?
Well, I'm just talking about teams that Contreras might get traded too.
If they, that would, and again, I guess this ties to the Cubs,
but it's about Houston, but if they traded for Wilson Contreras,
the whole fucking league is like on full watch.
I'm telling you.
And they totally could.
And you could even...
He's a rental.
Like, he's very good, but he's a rental.
And you could, like, start him and then defensive replacement,
if that's, like, a thing.
Oh, they probably wouldn't do that.
Waste of catcher.
I've been saying that.
Even the Cardinals, they really have to lick themselves in the mirror and said,
look, I know we love Yadi.
He's there.
He's our guy.
He means a lot to our pitching staff.
But we're trying to win a World Series here.
Oh, I don't know.
Cubs catcher, St. Louis.
I don't...
Well, you know, maybe it's not him, but...
somebody could come in.
If you look at Yadi's stats, like the offensive stats are just,
they're just not there.
And this is, it's not a, I don't know, man.
Pirates keep having fun.
And that's kind of hitting the central.
Over, what's that?
We're 25 minutes in.
All right.
Over to the West Coast.
West side?
It's a mess.
It was fun for a little.
It's not fun anymore.
Well, we knew the Dodgers.
Cincinnati have fun too.
The Dodgers are.
Musa be a great Yankee.
Trade Luis Castillo.
Moose would be a great Yankees.
Luis Castillo and Moose to the Yankees.
Yeah.
The Dodgers are 10 games up.
Yeah, just like that.
Out of nowhere.
I'm trying to find how close.
The Padres caught him at one point, right?
Yes.
And then just, bam.
They like casually went into the Allsar break
and went on like a 14 and 2 stretch.
They had a better record than the Astros.
They're only trailing the Yankees and they're close.
On July 1st, they had a three and a half game lead.
Freddie Freeman.
All-Star.
Grats.
It's the hottest,
maybe the hottest stretch of baseball we've seen this season.
Dude, it might be the hottest stretch we've seen ever.
Is everyone going to fire their agent now?
Because Secret Sauce might be that.
Hire my friend Ollie.
Trying to get it.
At the party last night.
At the party. You get the best.
Top gun haircut and all.
We're pretty similarly built.
Yeah, you actually are.
I've got a couple extra in the middle.
Can you bunt like he can?
I was a pretty good.
Okay, good.
Dude, okay, wait, what is 90 minus 74?
90 minus 75.
16. 15.
15 games ago, there's a one and a half lead for the doctors.
That's what I'm saying, dude.
In 15 games, they gained nine games in the standings?
What?
Yeah.
What have the Padreys been doing?
I'm looking at the Giants stuff right now because I'm very curious.
I'm happy the Giants go into the break winning.
They've had three.
months. One month
at June was 13 and 13, so exactly
500 ball, and then May and
July, both under 500.
So, I don't
know, man. I
never was on, I wasn't on the Giants train last
year, missed that boat, okay?
And then this year, I just felt like the same kind of
thing, and sometimes
I look at them when they're playing, and I think, this is a really
good baseball team. And sometimes I look at the roster
and I see them play, I'm like, I don't know.
Like, they're in that same level as
the Dodgers and Padres, but
I was talking to Dodgers fans yesterday at the party.
And they were saying, like,
last year's team was better,
but they could never clip the Giants.
So we just focused on,
as Dodgers fans,
they just focused on all the negative.
Like,
this is what's wrong.
This is why we can't keep to beat the Giants.
You're like,
this year's team is worse than last year's team,
but the division is worse.
And they're 10 games up,
so they're just like happy and giddy.
It's like the weird, you know.
Giants had a historic regular season last year,
and this year they're,
closer to mid than that.
They've dealt with injuries.
There's no doubt about that.
What are they going to do with the deadlock?
Great question.
The Dodgers?
The Giants.
Great question.
Like, they're a little bit of a wild card, man.
You're telling me that's, that team operates differently.
The Dodgers are going to trade for Luis Castillo.
Who's getting Jock Peterson?
Because that's exactly like a move the Giants could make
where it's like subtraction, but
pure rental for a year and a half
It might be best case scenario for them
They sign him to a one year six
He goes off
They get a guy they think they can fix
And no it would be gross
Who's you gonna go to?
Oh never mind
What I was gonna say is stupid
I take it back
Does he go back to the Braves?
Oh my God
How fun with that
Oh my God
Get the pearls back out babe
He would be a star
if he came back to Atlanta.
The pearl necklace on you?
Just a mercenary at that point.
I love it.
I'm actually rooting for that now.
I'm sorry, Giants fans.
I want you to give Jock Peterson to the Braves, please.
I mean, how awesome would that be?
If Jock Peterson, like the Jolly Olive video comes out in 10 years,
it's like the guy that got traded to a contender, every deadline.
Like Jock signs the most money with a bad team every year.
Like next year he's a royal.
Yeah.
And then it's like, all right, where's Jock going now?
Love it.
He just signed with a good team and then just sit out the first three months.
I'll just, I'll meet you guys when it's closer to, like, game time.
Rolled my ankle.
Yeah, I'm okay.
It's smart.
Smart move.
Gavin Lux, really awesome, dude.
Everyone.
Oh, yeah, you guys got the season, Dodgers.
Talking baseball.
Gavin Lux is now a friend.
Yeah.
Full-blown.
You're a Gavin Lux fan if you listen to this show.
Gonsland, super nice.
Starting pitcher.
Yeah.
Likes cats.
Likes cats.
Hates me.
We kind of beefed on that a little bit.
I told him the story about how you saw him at the high school game,
and he was kind of like...
He told him the story.
He was fucking there.
He was like, stop talking to me, little man.
Of course he knew about it.
You don't think he knows who I am?
No, he knows who you are.
Yeah, he knows.
You know.
Keep your hat up.
Brought up cats a bunch.
He did.
He brought up cats on you.
Why?
He loves cats, dude.
He loves cats.
I know, but...
I overheard, like, 35.
second in conversation.
I heard him bring up cats on his own, not provoked twice.
He loves cats.
Is he a sneaky roped up, or what do you got on him?
He's in shape.
He's a pitcher.
He's pretty naturally big.
Good legs.
He runs.
He likes cats.
He throws a ball.
Okay.
Okay.
I guess that is that it?
How many wild-car?
Favorite team in the National League?
Ooh.
Wow.
Prepare to be hated.
Like, team I think.
is the best or the team like I really want to win?
Team you think is the best. I'm probably
Braves. I like what
you said, Jim. I think the Dodgers
are not as strong as previous
Dodger years. Yeah, but I think they're going to trade for
But if they get a L.Skastee. I think they're going
to too. Which they could.
Yeah. Luis Castillo and Malibu Mike, bro.
Back in L.A. I could see it. It's like Max
Muncie 2.0, bro. Just hitting
absolute mucs. Malibu Mike is
an October guy.
Yeah.
I would not like to see him on the Yankees.
He needs the beard.
He's not,
you need the beer, Mike.
Yeah.
Yeah, it would be bad.
The porch.
He doesn't need the porch.
That dude hits absolute tanks.
Dude, right now, every, in the NL,
every division is sending two teams, I think.
Thank you.
What do I have cashed my bike you so much?
What just happened?
Yeah, that's wild.
They're all sending the central has both theirs in,
Milwaukee and St. Louis.
The East has the Mets and the Braves, and the West has the Dodgers and the Padres.
Bottom line is, I hate divisions.
I'm like so out in divisions.
My official stance now is that we should just not even have divisions.
The Phillies aren't in as of right now?
Nope.
The Giants are actually ahead of them.
There shouldn't even be an American League or national.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, everybody.
That's so wrong.
I thought that was wrong.
I'm sorry.
Why?
Not what you're saying.
My stats.
I pulled up the page on July 1st.
God, I hate when I do that to the audience.
I'm sorry.
I pulled up the page on July 1st to do the how many games have the Dodgers played.
And then I went back to the standings page and it was still that.
So I'm a piece of shit.
Yes, listen, I know I'm doing the A.O.
I know I'm coming up next.
I need to go real quick.
I need a 90-second break.
You guys fill the air, okay?
Phillies are in.
So the East is sending three.
Yeah, right?
Phillies and Cardinals by games back.
Because my question that I wanted to ask was, is the central of two-de-one-team division.
I'm a war of attrition guy.
I don't know their schedules exactly,
but being in the Central helps those two teams.
And they're both good.
They're both quality teams.
The Cardinals.
I mean, Brewers, Cardinals, Phillies Giants.
I kind of like the Brewers and the Cardinals over those two teams.
Like potentially, if the Phillies stay this version of the Phillies,
we're going to like them.
It's kind of like Trev talked about them all year.
Like if that starting pitching happens with their lineup,
which it has been and the bullpen's been good,
that like the best version of the Phillies is better than the NL Central teams,
but we don't know if the Phillies will be that Phillies team.
The Cardinals are 24 and 14 against the Central.
The Brewers are 28 and 19 against the Central.
Hey, the Brewers?
Dude, these teams, there's some like stats that I don't like about either of these teams.
I can't be the question as I left.
The Brewers and the Cardinals both have losing records against teams from the East.
They have losing records against teams over 500.
It's not really being tested.
You know what, though?
It's the first half, and I hate to say this.
What does it matter now?
Like, we're here where we're at.
I think teams coming out of the break can totally change the trajectory of their season.
They can.
Like, the momentum is gone.
You know, there's, there are.
are trades that are about to happen.
You get a little bit of a breather.
You see where you're standing.
I don't know.
There can be complete changes.
Yeah.
But all I have to talk about is the first half.
I love the base.
I love when we're getting towards the end.
That's all.
I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
I just love like when the races are kind of clear and we see what's going on.
And it's like you have Scherz are talking about how big the series are against the Braves because they know what you were saying, how much homefield advantage is going to mean.
How much the buy is going to mean.
Like, this is, this is the shit that I love.
Dude, that's where, and looking at the Giants, man,
they're a team that, even if they did the jock thing we talked about,
which I don't think they're going to, like, the Giants are competing next year,
like they're going to.
So, like, is that a team that's out on Luis Castile?
Like, that's what I'm saying.
Like, the Giants can do something that we're sitting there like,
okay, this team won 100 plus games last year.
They love their organization.
And like, they're going to add at the deadline.
And especially if it's a year and a half guy, like someone who can be a part of next year,
that's, I'm circling the Giants.
I got a question.
The Giants, all the breakdown of numbers that I was doing that I don't know if people
care about it all, but the Giants are good.
Winning record versus the East, winning record versus Central, winning record versus the West,
winning record in international, winning record at home, winning record on the road,
they win.
Second half team.
Okay.
Marcus Stroman.
Yeah.
He can be traded.
Think so?
He got a player option in 2024.
Like, he was hurt from, you know, at the end of May,
he missed all of June, basically.
He made one start in June.
He's come back.
Pitch count's not necessarily there yet.
59 pitches in his first start back on July 9,
four innings pitched.
No earned runs.
Comes back four in a third this last money,
but he gets it up to 83 pitches.
Like, the guy's a good pitcher,
and the Cubs aren't doing anything.
So it's two and a half years.
Dude, I mean, I think the Cuthers was one of the only team that offered him that much money.
What I'm saying is they want to get this money off the books probably if they're not going to be competing.
But I'm saying that a lot of other teams had the chance to pay him that much money to pitch for them and they didn't.
So what's changing that?
So what they could do is they eat some of the money.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, you eat some of the money.
Eat some of it.
Eat some of it, you know, because you know they're going to try to get their payroll down.
And a team could pick up Marcus.
And this is a guy.
seems to
thrive.
Could put together
a good half
pretty easy.
Thri.
In those big pressure
situations,
he always talks
about how he loves
those situations.
He might be,
you know,
one of the guys
who we're not really
talking about,
you know,
we're talking about Montes,
we're talking about
Castillo all the time
and a couple of guys.
Stromen.
Strowman's a guy
could be traded.
It's two years.
Well,
it's,
he has a player option
in 24.
So it's like...
Oh, he does?
You don't have that on here.
This is my,
this is what it says here.
Contract company.
Yeah.
All right.
We've always been good at contract.
We're so good.
I'm up, right?
You're up.
It's the American League.
Guys, I'm just going to tell you this right now.
You're going to find out what's going on.
Just as I'm fine.
No, what's going on.
And we are going to start in Texas,
the Mariners, Gandalf the White,
zombie, walking dead,
whatever you want to call them.
They are doing it.
They sweep the Rangers in a four-game set.
My goodness.
Trevor Plouffe, what is you doing, baby.
Six, five Mariners, eight, three, mariner's.
Three, two, mariners in ten.
And then six, two mariners.
They came back down five to one in game one to win their 11th in a row.
France with the go-ahead two-run single.
He got named to be an all-star.
That's awesome.
They've won 14 games since July 2nd.
The Angels have won 14 games since May 22nd.
Jesus.
That's a great, that's a great staff there, Max.
I love it.
Per 538,
must be a website.
Mariners had the third best odds
to make the AO playoffs
behind the Yankees and the Astros.
That is absolutely insane.
I thought they were dead.
They are very, very much alive.
Moving on, you guys,
your Yankee fans, right?
The Red Sox came into the Bronx.
Yankees take two or three.
Red Sox won the first one in next roundings.
Five, four, I watched that game.
The Yankees had a chance right there.
Didn't get it done.
Next two games,
blowouts.
14-1, Yankees.
Yankees, 13-2 Yankees. My goodness. Sale goes down. It's not looking good in Boston. Are they going to be sellers? We'll talk about that. Yankees still looking good. The White Sox went into Minnesota. They took care of business. Did exactly what they needed to do. Took three of four from the twins. 12-2 White Sox. Quato, six innings pitch, one-run in that one. Then it was six-two white socks with Copic. Twins won. The third game, six to three, before the White Sox went and shalact them. 11 to nothing.
White Sox making their move.
Are they going to buy?
Are they just going to get healthy?
Twins, what are you going to do?
It's going to be a mess in the Central.
I love it.
They take three or four the White Sox do.
Then we got that series.
The Royals basically sent a minor league squad up into Toronto, and the Blue Jays took three or four.
You guys cannot be happy about that.
Three-one Royals, they actually won the first game with all those guys.
But then the Blue Jets said, nah, we're good.
8-1, 6-5-10, 4-2 in the last game.
What did Barrillos do?
I'm checking it out right now.
six and one third innings pitch, two earned runs.
Oh, yeah, they fire their manager.
Do we talk about that?
I think we did.
I don't know.
Blue Jays take three or four.
Royals, you know, what is you doing, baby?
I don't know.
Orioles go down into Tampa.
They lose two out of three.
The Rays win two of those games.
Five, four Rays, six, four Orioles in extras, and then seven, five, raise.
A Rose Raine had a two-run homer in the first game.
Phillips three-run homer in the third of game three.
I don't even know.
That might be wrong.
I'm reading these notes right now. Don't hate me. Okay. Mount Castle had to go ahead to run single
on the 11th of game two. I do know that for a fact. Hey, McClanahan, you name an All-Star game
starter for the A. Of course. Is he starting the game though? Yeah. He's starting the game.
Starting it, yeah. Congratulations, bro. That's awesome. Do we have an NL yet? Kershaw.
Kershaw's doing it? Great. Love that. Okay. What is that? Royals took two or three.
No, there's two. Athletics at Astros. The A's take two at three. Houston. You're fine. You're
doing just great. 5-1-A's, 5-0-A Shros, then 4-3-A's in the rubber match. Our guy
Odarezi pitched in that one. Five in a third, three earned runs, vote.
Our guy, go-ahead single in the eighth. The A's take the series. Okay, Astros, you're fine,
though. Last series, and this time I mean it, tigers, rolling to Cleveland and the Guardians,
sweep them in three games. It was supposed to be a fourth game, but that one got postponed.
four nothing guardians, six five guardians,
and then they shellact them,
10 nothing in that third game.
What are they going to do?
What are the guardians going to do?
Like I said, the Central is a mess right now.
It's going to be a mess.
But that's what we love here in talking baseball.
It's just messes.
And that, my friends, is what happened in the American League.
What are they going to do?
Jake, you want to just rip the aisle?
Because it doesn't make sense to like talk about all this stuff.
You want me to rip the aisle.
Yeah, rip here.
Just take my computer.
Your eyes.
Your eyes stink.
They stink.
I have great eyes, bad hearing.
It's because you have a lot of hair in your ears.
We are going, going back, back to Callie, Callie.
We are in Los Angeles.
And the Battle of the 405?
Yeah, bro.
I hopped on the 10 the other day, and then I got to the five.
The Dodgers went to the Angels, Los Angeles, Angels of Anaheim,
because they had to get Dodgers Stadium ready.
Home Run Derby.
All-Star game, we're going to it.
Clayton Kershaw, starting the All-Star game.
Perfect into the 8th?
I turned it on.
Oh, Jerry Blevins is here.
Let him.
Hammercock.
Oh, my God.
It's so big.
Kirshah is perfect into the 8th.
He gives it up.
Justin Turner, three hits and four RBI in Game 1,
and he had a nice charity foundation bingo that we showed up to yesterday.
That was a good time.
Really nice guy.
I won.
Dodgers, they won the second game, seven one.
They're really good, and the Angels are dead.
They're two and 12 in July.
Haven't won consecutive games since June 26th.
June 26th.
What?
Consecutive games?
Yes.
They've ever won two in a row.
Yeah, it's tough.
Freddie Freeman is as hot as a hitter's ever been.
Trey Turner, two home runs.
So the Dodgers are nasty, and the Angels suck.
Back to you.
Like, like the angels, good job, Jake.
The angels, like, you are who we thought you are.
They're worse.
Worse than we thought they were.
I actually screwed up the AOS so bad.
I declared the Mariners dead.
And then, before that, I gave, I said, angels, I gave you permission,
Angels fans, I gave you permission to be cocky.
Yeah.
They were going nuts.
Taylor Ward was like, fucking another Mike Trout.
Two Mike Troutes plus Otani, and they were going nuts.
And they were like, this is awesome.
Jake and I back the Mariners.
You guys are smarter than me.
I mean, I was on the Angels early.
The Rendon injury hurt more than it did,
and then everything just went on control.
It's not just Rendon being out.
No, it's not the Angels until you're not the Angels.
You're not the Angels, man.
How many pitchers are they draft so far?
Ooh, check out Farm to Fame.
That's what I like, though.
They drafted 20 last year.
I don't know what they did this year.
But some of them got to work.
It's a numbers game, right?
game.
They've got to have pitching coming up.
Unless they've got to develop them.
But yeah, I'm interested actually.
Can you ask Farmer fame?
I want to know the Angels.
They should have drafted 20 more pitchers.
So far, shortstop.
Pitcher, pitcher, pitcher, first base, pitcher, pitcher,
two-way guy in the eighth round.
So he's probably picking aside outfield.
Okay.
All right.
What aves?
It should have been a thing for them for the next five years.
Just all pitchers.
First time I've ever seen TWP listed as a guy's position.
I assume that's two-way player.
Yeah.
I'm sick of it already.
People, you're not going to be a two-way player.
You should not.
Like, all of you that are listening to this.
I'm sick of it already.
You're not Otani.
Dude, like,
because one person does it,
everyone thinks they can freaking do it.
It's ridiculous.
Good luck.
I would love.
Get out of you.
I would love.
For a little 17-year-old Trevor Plouf,
the number one pitching prospect in California.
I wasn't.
Chris Rose said that the other day.
Two-way player.
Number one, two-way player.
Yeah, in the country.
I would have loved to talk to him.
In the country.
I would have loved to talk to him and ask him, you know, he probably couldn't be a two-way guy.
Treb, that's cool.
Were you a piece of shit?
You were a piece of shit?
Oh, my God.
What's that even mean?
No, it was.
To be 17 years old and then, like, you're walking around, like, I'm the best two-way baseball
prospect in the country.
It comes from pool men, so he's a good guy.
Yeah.
How'd you stay so grounded?
Oh, my gosh, you guys.
Um, no.
If Jake was the number one tool player in the country, he'd have no friends.
I kind of am the number one.
tool in the country.
Yes.
The first picture of the Angels
drafted this year is Ben Joyce,
the guy who throws 104.
Oh, nice.
Hey.
Okay.
Oh, how about that?
Yeah, what do you go?
What is that?
He was third round pick,
89th overall.
I don't know why he dipped.
Don't know what his deal is.
I guess he's a four-year senior.
I think he's had, he's had TJ already.
I'm pretty sure.
I don't know, man.
Throws 105, so he's going to have it again.
How about the net?
A lot of nepotism at the draft this year.
Oh, a lot of nepotism.
Nice word.
It was crazy.
Every 10 minutes, I was like,
Carl Crawford's son.
Someone, someone's son.
You know what?
That old generation of baseball had a lot of sex.
Yeah.
It's basically what we're finding out here.
Teddy Poof is the number one two-way
and class of 2035?
No, I'm not going to, he's not going to pitch, okay?
I'm not going to put that in this kid's brain.
Okay.
I don't want him to think like a starter.
Dusty Baker son
Drafted
Do that
Do that to my kid?
Really?
Andrew Jones son
Dusty Baker's son
Is the famous one that like bonds and
Drafted
Yeah
Had to rescue him
Matt Holiday's son
Yeah first overall
Drafted
C Csabathia's son
Drafted
When did he get drafted?
Carston
D do
I wonder if he's gone
Because he was
He was supposed to go to Georgia Tech
In the first round
I believe it was
Sorry, this might be like a sons of that may be draft.
It was it was Holiday's son number one,
Jones son number two,
Justin Crawford, who is Carl Crawford's son in the first round.
I think 10 to the Philly or something?
Something like that, double check.
17.
To Philly, right?
Yes.
So Jackson Holiday, Drew Jones, Justin Crawford,
Cam Collier.
Jace Jung, Josh Jung's brother.
Not a son, but connection there.
the young.
So,
baseball runs deep.
I hope he's got the neck.
I want to,
I'm sure he does.
I want to tell you
about why Jeff Passen and I
became best friends
because it coincides
what we're talking about.
Okay.
So a little tension between us.
I asked,
I said,
Jeff,
we need to take a picture.
He goes,
is it just going to be a picture?
It's like,
I said,
can we take a picture,
bro?
What do you think?
Like,
he doesn't
to prank him or something,
I guess.
I'm like,
Jeff,
I just,
I just, I just,
I just, I just,
I just,
I said,
up there,
pick going to be. He goes, I don't know. I was, oh, you don't know? It's like, well, I only
don't know because I don't care. I was like, oh, that's pretty good. I was like, I was like,
I was that's a pretty good answer. I was like, okay. And then he came back and goes, do
me to find out? And I go, yeah, I do. And I swear, this is before, I was like, I don't even
think I was on the clock yet. Right. And he goes, hey, it's, uh, Brooks Lee. I'm like,
okay. And sure is so? Brooks Lee. He, like, loved that he did that. So, like, I gave him,
I gave him doubts.
But then I just stumped him.
Wow.
Because I was like wondering.
I was like,
sounds like a goddamn war zone.
It was.
Me and Jeff just,
you know how I am when I first meet people.
It's,
yeah,
whatever.
So,
um,
God,
I'm a piece of shit.
Um,
uh,
I was,
I was looking at the board.
I'm like,
why,
why aren't the Dodgers listed here anywhere?
Like the Mets have two picks because of Kumar.
I get that.
I was like,
why are the Dodgers not here?
You can't trade draft picks?
What the fuck?
I said,
Jeff,
why can't,
Dodgers here.
He didn't know.
Wow.
We both had to look it up.
Do you guys even know?
No.
Got lost?
They spent too much money.
One of the things that if you go over the luxury tax, they take you down.
So they went, I think they dropped from 10 picks to whatever.
So the 40th pick was their first pick.
But I stumped Jeff Passon, which is a proud of mind.
Now we're best friends.
Yeah, it's great.
We started like, yeah, whatever.
All right.
In the A.L. East, the Yankees are 13 games up on first place.
and then the other news of it is that the Orioles
are five games out of second now.
I guess there's some separation.
They were on that crazy stretch,
but they end 500.
So the AL East doesn't have a single team
with a losing record going into the All-Star break.
That's pretty cool.
That's insane.
Yeah.
That's insane.
Yep.
Yeah.
The other stat and Chris Sale breaks his pinky,
and this is the most interesting conversation right now, I think,
because, yeah, some Red Sox fans in our house were like,
I think we're going to trade some people now.
They're going to.
We were really banking on sale coming back and, like, doing all that.
The Red Sox also, Trave, have you heard this?
They have not won a series against an ALE East opponent.
I have heard that, actually.
Yeah, that's tough.
Oh, okay.
Their record versus the ALE East is 12 and 26.
That's not a good recipe for, like, the end of the year.
They had this stretch of 15 games against tough opponents
with three against the Cubs mixed in.
and everyone been saying like,
let's see how they get through that stretch.
And granted, they had a bunch of injuries
that they had to lean on some younger pitchers,
but they went six and 15 in that stretch.
So I don't know, man.
All I know is that when the Red Sox go down,
they go down hard.
They never...
It's a lot of red.
They're never a...
You know, if they...
They're teeter-totter, I guess,
but they don't bounce back.
It's like a weight on one side.
Okay.
Like just bam.
Last place.
If you look at the roster,
and we mentioned this on baseball today,
the Red Starz has to look in the mirror,
and they can say,
hey, we might be able to sneak in the playoffs,
but, like, really,
can you do damage in the playoffs
against these kind of elite teams,
whether it be the Yankees,
which I think, you know,
that's a fun series,
and maybe that all evens out
just because of the rivalry,
whatever.
But, like, can you compete with the Astros?
Like, can you really,
realistically think you're going to go
far in the postseason. Because if you could look in the mirror and say, probably not,
then you have Bogart's who has the opt-out, J.D. Martinez is a free agent,
Eovaldi is a free agent, Vasquez is a free agent. Kika Hernandez is a free agent, I think. Yes.
I don't think they're going to go sell everyone. I think they'll move some and they'll do like.
But why wouldn't you, if you're going to sell a couple, just suck and sell them all, dude.
I don't know. Don't lose the fans, like point of pride. I do think if they had sale back and he looked good,
But then even not only like, yeah, there's a chance to, like, you'll be in the postseason ship,
but there's a chance to win series.
But their pitching is, and I don't know sales timetable, but.
Right.
Pivotta.
They were saying he might be okay in pitch, but he just broke his fucking finger.
I don't put it past him.
Can it not break?
No, it broke.
Well, it was, is it dislocated because it would look like a, you know, like?
No, no, I thought they came out and they said it broke.
What's the guy in that one movie, like, scary movie parody when he has, like, little claw hand?
Yeah.
He broke his finger.
Okay.
That's what it looked like.
He'll miss four to six weeks.
Okay.
But he will pitching it in 2022.
That's tough, man.
Especially when they have so much they can sell to switch it up.
I don't think so.
I mean, I think if you're the Red Sox.
Jackie Bradley Jr.
Let's think about this.
The Red Sox went to the CS last year.
Like, they had playoff goals this year.
They have playoff goals next year.
And they were planning on all of these guys hitting free agency.
Like they might, you know, there's been re-signing rumors, but they've gone in knowing that these guys were going to be free agents.
So at this point, for them, it's kind of easy.
You get a pure rental first baseman.
They got Kossis in the minor leagues.
You get a pure rental at first base.
Bell.
You get another arm, and you hope you're the Red Sox.
And like Jimmy said with the teeter totter, that's a city that if the good juice gets going, the good juice gets going.
I don't love this team.
Not as a Yankees fan, as a baseball.
ball fan. Trevor story's out right now.
Like, if story comes back and you make one or a pure rental and an arm, and then sale does
come back at some point.
Like, Avaldi just came back.
There's a recipe for the Red Sox to be in the playoffs.
Yeah.
And, I mean, you got to play the Red Sox in a three-gamer at Fenway, five-gamer
with, I don't know.
Yeah, but right now they're pretty top-heavy.
I like the top of their lineup a lot.
That's incredible.
Their staff and their relievers.
It is injury, and I feel like no one has a solid place and vibe about it.
And then, Treve, their defenses.
Hey, why was Halk pitching yesterday in the blowout game?
Dude, because they had, they threw some.
Double blowout.
Also, they just had to, he, like, he had to pitch.
I thought, okay.
Sale.
Sale, came out early.
Oh, that's right.
Okay.
Trev, look at this.
This is the game before they used one, two, three, four, five pitchers.
And then that Sunday, they, look how many pitchers they used.
Yeah, they had to.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight pitchers.
We used everybody, so.
Going into the All-Star break.
Yeah, because he threw 40 the game before.
Okay.
That makes sense.
I forgot the sale went out early.
Yeah.
I was watching the game.
I was like, wait on the fourth batter.
Yeah.
But their defense is kind of brutal.
Wait, Hicks was hitting fourth?
Maybe he was hitting six.
Okay.
There's some errors and stuff, yeah.
Okay.
For dogo, big second half.
I just think.
He's a lot better.
He's a lot better.
He's a trade of Bucy bets, bro.
It's true.
Like, Heimblum, doesn't care.
If he, if he, in his head says, you know what, got to do it.
All these, I mean, they haven't been able to get any extension talks with Bogart's going.
Devers, they haven't had any, like, substantial, like, offers to him.
He's got one more year.
Like, I don't know, man.
Do you know what?
Sucks.
Are they going to compete?
Hold on.
I'm sorry.
Are they going to compete next year?
Yes.
All these guys are going to be free agents.
They're all going to be free agents.
So, you have to have to have.
a whole new team next year.
Give him some time.
Okay, whatever.
This is a plan.
Can I,
I don't want to rag on a rookie.
Okay.
But they are putting Duran in the leadoff spot.
Yeah.
And it's maybe the worst strategy I've ever seen a team have.
It's like,
it's a free out.
They did it both series.
In his last nine games in the leadoff,
he's got a 0.67 on base percentage.
Zero 97 on base percentage.
We have three walks I'm looking at right now.
And all of July, so that's so far.
And not a lot of hits.
And only in June one, two, three, four walks in June.
Is Kiki like done?
Like what's going on with him?
Because he used to be their lead-off guy and give them good energy.
And now Kora likes to spark things.
That's why he tried to ran up there, but that didn't work.
What's the sparking, bro?
I'll spark it.
Okay.
I get sparked up later.
He's got a strained hip flexor.
I don't know.
I don't feel good.
I think I've got that.
From floorball?
Yeah, and sitting like this.
Well, Yankees crushed them.
And that game that I was talking about,
the Yankees could have won.
That was, dude, Trevino's up there.
Base is loaded, nobody out.
And I'm like, you're an all-star.
Yankee Stadium is fucking rocking.
Like, the bright lights.
I was like, dude, he's going to have his fucking moment here.
He's going to have his moment.
And he started sizing up halk.
Like he saw enough pitches where you could just tell he was getting comfortable with like the slider.
Like he knew that he could let the fastball get deep and then so still see the slider.
But then helped me that real good pitch and I don't know why he swung like that.
No play. Tough. Tough. Tough. But they came back. They came back that next game. Like they were all mad.
Yeah. Yeah. Even Tyone. 27 to three in the next two games.
Time give up two hits in the first inning and then no hit the rest, the next five innings.
But if you get beat like that,
and I understand Sale came out, so was a bullpen game.
Like, I don't know, man.
If you're the Red Sox, you have to be considering kind of just going full-low.
I think they'll do a half-assed, like 2016 Yankees.
You think they go full?
I don't know.
You just said they're teardotters.
They got so much talent.
You know what?
What's their schedule until the deadline?
Pure rental reliever.
Let's see.
They start with Toronto.
Tough.
In Toronto?
Cleveland.
These are all at home.
And then Milwaukee.
Oh, baby.
And then Houston at Houston.
So is that a,
was that a whole home stand?
Toronto.
Is that like a nine-game homestand at the All-Star break?
It's a big homestand.
Right up to the deadline.
10.
10.
10 games.
But it's Toronto,
Cleveland, Milwaukee.
And then you have at Houston.
And then there's a trade deadline.
So, I mean, dude, I mean, 12 games before the deadline.
They just went 5 and 13 in the last 18 game stretch against tough teams.
Toronto, Cleveland, Milwaukee, all teams potentially in it.
If they go in those 10 games, they go 3 and 7 before they get to Houston.
Oh, my God.
Their schedule is tough, bro.
Yeah.
Atlanta, then they got New York.
Enough socks.
Let's talk about the good team in that division.
Oh, my God.
The Orioles.
Yes.
That's the biggest surprise.
and there's some talks about the Orioles trading for guys.
I don't think that's going to happen.
No chance.
But I also think you don't trade away some guys.
Well, Rick Garali put out a article.
Shout out, Britt.
She's having like a baby today or something.
Hell yeah.
Like very soon.
She's still squatting because she's awesome.
She said, you know, don't trade Mancini.
What you're going to get back isn't worth what he's going to give you
You know, as far as leadership.
And then just, and for your fans, the juice,
you just finally got back.
Like, you don't want to do that.
And the carryover effect to next season.
So I agree, don't.
Unless the return is, you know, when they had Machado.
And it's like, well, fuck, the return here is going to be pretty good.
When they trade them to the Dodgers.
Yeah.
But I don't think it's going to be that.
For anyone they have, unless they want to trade in Mullins.
He's so good.
Watch Cedric Mullins play baseball.
Very good.
I like the reads he gets.
What about the raise, guys?
Where are we out with the race?
I don't know, man.
I can never figure the race out.
I feel like a lot of people.
By design.
It's their 10 games over 500.
I wanted to write them off.
I kind of did write them off,
but then a couple guys started hitting Harold Ramirez.
Hold on.
I can't even name the lineup day to day for the raise right now.
Do you want to try and guess?
Oh, I have it up already.
Oh, damn.
Yeah.
I mean, I do know these guys' names.
I think you would be able to figure a lot of them.
But I don't think a lot of people could.
casual baseball fans not knowing a lot of these guys.
Maybe, maybe best of all time, Randy, they know.
Maybe.
G. Man, Choi.
I only think Yankee fans would know that.
Maybe.
I don't think.
He's been around to a lot of clubs,
and he's always a fan favorite.
Yeah.
I don't think guys would know him.
I mean, honestly, it's probably Wander and Randy that people would know.
Kiermeyer.
No, it's interesting.
I think, K.K.
He's hurt right now.
How about this?
Like, the raise are going to raise.
You know they're going to win games.
You know they're going to be around.
Wander got hurt again.
does he come back in September?
I forget his timeline.
And then, like, imagine if we're talking about a race team and we're like, yeah, they're in the wild card.
They're around.
And, like, Glass now comes back.
Wander Franco comes back.
Like, then the raise could really, like, they could sneak up on you.
They always do.
So, five to eight weeks for Wander.
Fasting or slow-heeler.
When was that posted?
When was that posted?
This was July 11th.
So, August 11th, September 11th, so he's out.
It's four to seven weeks.
So he's going to play the last two weeks of the season.
That's a huge blow to the race.
Yeah, he's not.
But he's been out.
Yeah, they don't care.
He's been out.
Yeah.
So that's if he does come back.
If Glass now comes back, they've had a few other injuries.
Like, I don't, I don't know.
I don't know.
The race are going to be there.
They're just going to be there.
Yeah.
talk about them. They're very good. They're so good.
They might... You know a whole podcast about them. Yeah, yeah. They're really good. And people always hate when you
guys talk about the Yankees. I love reading your comments. I can see the opposite now. I think we've faded
the fade so hard that people are like, please talk about the Yankees on talking baseball.
No fucking chance. Well, let's go to the Central then. White Sox take care of business.
Quato has kept their season alive, essentially, what he's done since he's got there.
Another great start. Kopeck doing the same thing. So the White Sox are going to get going.
White Sox are above 500?
I think they're at 500.
At 500.
Twins, I don't know what they're going to do.
I mean, it's kind of all coming down.
Like the pitching staff for a second there was like kind of hot.
People are all over it.
But, you know, it's crashed back down to Earth.
You know, guys like Smelzer who started out hot, he's been tough.
I think he just got option down.
Can I say something rude?
Sunny Gray.
That's going to make everyone mad at me again?
Sure.
Because I'm the most honest guy in the world.
Okay.
I'm so interested in looking at the results of the AL Central.
games and
tracking the standings
and I have just as little
interested in watching those teams play.
Okay.
Like, it's like, I'm excited for that race,
but if you tell me the twins
and the White Sox are battling it out,
I'm like, I'd rather watch so many.
I'd rather watch all the other top battles
and other divisions.
I'm like, I'd rather watch those.
Unless my guy Lance Lynn's pitching.
Yeah, I mean, there's some really fun players,
I mean, on those teams, so.
I know, but they're just been
playing, like, the White Sox have been, like, top to watch.
White Sox are going to go.
They've got a crazy, easy schedule out of the break.
They're back to 500.
I mean, twins are mid.
I'm not even counting Quedo.
Can you even count Quedo?
I mean, when you're talking White Sox starting pitching,
he should be the fifth guy you mentioned.
But he's been dealing.
G. Alito needs to kind of get things going a little bit.
But, yeah, you have C's at the top of the rotation right now,
who should have been an all-star, not an all-star,
150 strikeouts leads the
doesn't say it leads the league, but I think it does.
Somebody must have got him.
Kopec has been great.
I'm happy that he's had a good year.
I don't know.
This is a team that if you just look at the roster,
you're soaked.
Cease Gileido, Copac, Quedo, Lanselin.
Should be great.
No, that's why we like this team going into the year.
I just, not last year's Braves vibes,
but with their easy schedule coming back,
the fact they're back to 500.
Lance Lynn is back.
I think they're going to hit it hard out of the All-Star break
and I think the Central's on.
I stamp that.
I fully agree.
I can't.
Don't.
I don't stand that.
I'll get in trouble for stamping that.
But I do,
I did pick the White Sox to go to the World Series.
That'll be interesting.
Like, who are they going to,
I think they make moves.
I really do think they make.
Like, this is also their window.
There's not that many moves to make.
Second base.
I think.
No, not for the White Sox specifically.
I just mean, like, everybody,
there's more buyers than sellers.
And the sellers only have so many to sell.
Yeah, no, I get it.
I get it.
Unless some teams just, like I said, like Red Sox could change all these races
drastically if they start releasing guys.
Guardians, do you want to talk about them a little bit?
Could?
I think they're just going to be a pest the whole way through.
They're young.
They're having fun.
Tristan McKenzie has been a stud.
Another great start.
Eight shoddy, 12Ks, no walks.
that is my guy right there
is curb all has been electric this year.
It's like the best curve in baseball.
Yeah, yeah.
And they have pitching.
And like they're,
I don't know,
like they're scary.
I'm not scared of their lineup,
but their pitching's always good.
I like watching Josh Naylor and Jose Ramirez play.
They,
yeah,
I mean,
maybe I'm a Guardians fan.
You could see them in a wild card series
being like,
okay, they could fucking go get it.
Like they could,
they could go.
Jake's out on the Guardians again.
He'll be back.
Once Connor Pink,
Pinkleton comes back.
I'll be back.
Connor with the K.
Yeah, need them, need them.
It's going to be a great race.
You may not be looking forward to it.
I'm very much looking forward to the Hale Central race.
I could be talked into it.
I just kind of talked myself into it remembering Lance Lynn,
Buxton, and Sticks.
I like watching those guys.
Yeah, I mean, Buxton is quite the...
It's more so I just don't think they're going to...
I think they're just going to lose.
In the post season.
Yeah.
I can't wait.
Gosh, I like love September and postage baseball so much.
And then we can go out.
West, you guys, where the Mariners are the best team of all time, 14 in a row.
Triv, did you hear that my sprinkle bet?
I didn't.
Was the Mariners to have the longest win streak in baseball on the show?
I remember that because we're talking about good, they were a good team in close games last year,
and, like, they have that fire and whatever, they have the it factor in those games.
They just always go on a hot stretch.
But Jake got his sprinkle right last year with the Cy Young.
if the show has a sprinkle right two years in a row
We're the premier sprinkle show
What's my sprinkle?
Your sprinkle
Trev Julio Reyes-Sai Young
What was my odds on my Mariners
Longest Winstreet?
Plus 3,000
Hell yeah
That's nice
Urius
Having a great year
Buck's an MVP
Get hot kid
Not in too hot a lot of not too bad a spot
But in the other games
That Otani guy is a person
This is why the Dodgers is silly.
Why?
Because you don't, in my mind, I'm like, you know, the starting rotation took a little bit of a hit, whatever.
No, they didn't.
Tyler Anderson's pitching to a 2-9.
Kirsha is pitching to a 2-1.
Tony Gonson is pitching to a 2-0.
Urius is pitching to a 28.
Walker Bueller, 60-day I-L, understand that, afterthought gone.
Like, just when you think they're out, they're not.
Dustin May is about.
come back.
Look at those ERAs.
It's a joke, dude.
It's a joke.
Tony Gonsland is 11.0.
I don't care if you don't give a shit about wins and losses.
He's 11 and O.
Tyler Anderson, 10 and 1.
Four starting pitchers with ERAs and the two.
And Gonslin and Tyler Anderson,
you weren't even talking about them before the season, dude.
This is what we say all the time with good organizations
is they just get guys to step up.
Gonson and Tyler Anderson on the Angels
across town would be
Terrible.
They'd be DFA guys.
Maybe.
Possibly, bro.
Except probably not Gonslyn.
He's different.
He's kind of...
Hey, you know who I am, bro.
Don't do that.
That's just...
That's silly.
Tony was nice.
Do we even talk about the Blue Jays?
Well, we didn't talk about the Mariners.
The Mariners just led us into Dodgers.
The Dodgers talk.
Oh, yeah, my sprinkle.
Yeah, I went sprinkle, and then we went Sprinkles.
So we got to talk about the Mariners.
Because they're on a 14-game winning streak.
Love them.
They, you wrote them off as dead, and they're not dead.
They were dead people.
What's dead will never die?
Yeah.
How many days do you think it's been?
John Snow.
Dude, you said Mike Trout killed them.
They killed the Angels.
Mike Trout and the Angels.
They're like a virus or something.
You guys remember that series.
We're like, Mike, stop it.
Mike Trow.
Yeah, I don't want to talk about that anymore.
People are just so, they make fun of me.
Chris Flexen has turned it on in his last,
three starts. He has a 1-1 ERA over this stretch. Robbie Ray has really gone off.
And then George Kirby's last two starts in the stretch have been good.
And then who's not carrying their weight?
Marco Gonzalez, E.R.A. is bad. I don't know if that's, like, actually his games in this stretch, but...
Do you want to know why...
Do you want to know why they're turning it around?
Louis O'Eardier he is. Yes. Yes.
I saw you bring him up on your screen.
Yeah. June 20th is when I pronounced them dead, okay?
What's he done since then? June 19. They had an off the end.
June 20th.
June 19th.
He was a 265, is that right?
Yeah, 265 with a batting average, 745 OPS.
So kind of like, just like average dude.
Like a solid rookie year.
Solid rookie year.
A good rookie year.
But not going to turn your season around.
Good.
Like you're happy.
Like, hey, he's getting his feet wet.
He's seen some pitches, some dirt in his spikes, but he's not saving your season.
Okay, dude, that was June 19th.
Okay.
Look at his number since then.
He's all the way up to 814.
Yeah.
Okay.
At one point he got it up to 824.
Like, the guy has just turned it on, driven in a bunch of runs,
like been just an absolute stud.
And you get a guy like that to go off.
That's just the energy resonates throughout the clubhouse.
Ty France is like playing with a chip on his shoulder, I guess.
Finally an All-Star.
Congratulations.
Dude, I think they've had some sneaky holes in their lineup that shouldn't be.
Like, Winker hasn't fully gone.
He definitely doesn't have Jesse Winker numbers.
I think Adam Frazier's been less than mid.
So, like, I don't know, man.
Those are two MLB veterans.
Do they go?
Jake, that was rude.
I think Adam Fraser would admit that.
Yeah, he would.
And I think his 75 OPS Plus would tell you he's less than that.
Oh, my God, really keeping going.
And this is my last week saying mid.
Highest, highest slugging percentage since June 19th in the American League, Trev?
Julio Rodriguez.
Like, they don't turn it around without him just absolutely going off.
So.
Of qualified hitters.
Highest, uh,
Highest runs created plus, Harold Ramirez.
It was Ramirez.
Okay.
All right, let's schedule watch the Mariners real quick.
His walk percentage stinks.
So out of the break, it's the Texas series.
They had Houston, and then they get Texas.
And then they get Houston again.
So we're talking at home in Seattle.
They're going the Texas three step out of the break.
Yeah, Texas three step.
Houston for three at home.
Texas for three at home.
And then they go four at Houston, four, and then three in New York.
Oh, that's your stretch.
What's that stretch?
At Houston, at the Yankees.
You know what, but like, if you want, if they think they're a good team.
Yeah, if you want to be big dogs.
Yeah, this is, you're going to have to go into these cities anyway.
Yeah.
During the postseason, so let's see it.
Dogs that don't eat don't get big.
Fuck yeah.
Fuck yeah, James.
Okay.
You ever heard the term spotting and dotting?
Yeah, bro.
Moylands heard it.
Spotting and dotting.
Like if you were talking about a pitcher.
You say he was spotting and dotting today?
I mean, no one uses that, but I get it.
I said it, and Jake and Joe's trying to say I invented it, but I don't think I did.
I think you did.
I haven't heard it.
What did you say?
He said he was so horny.
So we talked about the Mariners.
The Blue Jays.
Talk about the Blue Jays.
Talk about the Blue Jays.
What do you want to talk about?
Yo, they're still very good.
They need to show us something, dude.
I'm getting mad at them.
It's not the movie.
Can I go behind the scenes?
This movie stinks right now.
Can I go behind the scenes?
Actually, they could be setting up for like a great full story.
That's how you do a movie.
Like you can't just, a movie can't just be success.
Once upon a time in Hollywood.
Wait, Vladdy might have been on to something when he was like,
last year was the preview, this is the movie.
Because a movie needs ebbs and flows and an arc, yeah.
And they got their manager fired.
Can I?
They clapped when you walked out the door.
What was that about?
That shit's crazy to me.
Let me tell you behind scenes, guys.
So one of our listeners sent me Matt Chapman's defensive men.
metrics. Now we're not a defensive metric pod.
If it's DRS, you got to like cut it out.
They are not good.
Okay.
So you guys know my friend Mark Simon that works at SIS, our guy, he's helped out me.
Ian Hap, Jackie Bradley Jr., I said, look, dude, take a look at these numbers.
Tell me what you think for Chapie.
And I asked Chapman, I said, look, I have something, but I'm only going to give it to you
if you want it.
I started talking about it.
He couldn't have been happier that I reached out.
and I sent them and Mark Simon sent over
Are you the fucking infield coach for the Blue Jays?
For everybody.
I mean, I'm going to Google Toronto Blue Jays coaching staff
and I'm going to just,
like you just stole this guy's job.
I did.
Well, you know, the thing about all these metrics is,
and I don't understand why this is happening,
but they won't tell you,
organizations won't tell you how to fix things
or like what you're doing wrong defensively.
I don't know why.
Maybe there are some teams that do it.
Most guys that I talk to say they don't get,
it explained to them at all.
So Mark Simon is a guy that just knows how to explain it.
So he sent Chappies and things.
I want people to remember that.
And let's see where his numbers go.
Because Ian Haps had a great defensive year this year.
He talked to him before the...
The only thing that I...
Sometimes you play to the metrics not to better defense.
He...
Chappie feels...
He said he feels like he's not playing good defense.
He says he knows it and, you know, he wants...
He's like, I really want to know why.
he's like, I need to be an elite player in this league.
He was like, no, I am.
He goes, I haven't done it this year.
So you get fucking Chapman going off in the second half,
defense elite, which is automatically going to help his offense
because the confidence comes.
Lujas are a problem, guys, no matter what you think about him, they are.
I think Vlad and Springer have to be special.
Like, I know Kirk had an awesome first half.
He's leading the team in war.
Dude, Manoa, like, fully broke out.
Like, he wasn't guaranteed this year,
and he's been one of the best pitchers in the league.
Oh, I think he was guaranteed this year.
I don't think he was guaranteed.
Like if Alic Manoa had a 4ERA and we were like, you know, he's going some through second time seeing him through stuff like that.
He's bona fide.
18 starts, 2-280 a.
I need Vladie to go.
I mean, what are Vlad's stats this year?
Get off my computer, bro.
271, 346, 830 OPS.
That's good.
That's good.
Do you know what his numbers were last year?
No.
I do.
They're right here.
He won dotted.
Yeah.
He won dotted.
He won dotted.
He's not a 1.30 OPS.
I don't think he's a 1-daughter.
Not many people are 1-daughters.
So, like, I need Vlad to go.
There's 5-1-daughters.
Five over 9 every year.
I love butter-knifing George Springer's numbers.
He's a stud.
Like, he's got a go-go.
The go-go's.
Why do you say that?
Go-go?
Yeah.
Because, I mean, you can go.
Oh, but he's a guy guy.
He's a guy who should go-go.
Yeah.
Ross Stripling has been really good for them.
I didn't know that.
Really good.
Chicken trips.
Ever since Jimmy went on his podcast.
Yeah.
Nice.
He hasn't given up an earn run.
No, I mean, they put him in the rotation because they wanted,
they needed a six-man rotation for a stretch,
and I believe he has stayed in it because he has a great numbers.
Because he has a great numbers, is what I said.
We don't care about the A's taking two of three from the Astros.
The Astros are an elite team.
They're probably going to trade for Wilson Contreras.
No, I think Astros might win the AL.
So we got to get to the derby, so.
Let's go.
We're done.
That's all.
We're not doing awards or anything else.
We're just talking about Montes.
I forgot about Montes.
That dude's got to go somewhere.
I'm excited to start dreaming on that.
Worst he at because he was hurt.
Is he back?
I'm looking right now.
That's why we have Google.
Houston's so good.
I know we've said it on here before,
and there's some of you that are listening and think they,
they suck and you mentally hate them.
And if you want to do that, that's fine.
But they are so good.
Frankie Montes, the first headline is,
all systems go after bullpen session.
Two hours ago.
That's the news.
Passing.
Hmm, what's happened?
Hey, good-looking guy.
Me and passing her friends.
He looks a lot younger than he is.
That should age pretty well.
Okay.
Like, do you know how old he is?
It's not 6.
Jesus. He's 43.
Something like that, yeah.
That's not that old.
He's not that, but if you saw,
I think if you saw Jeff,
passing in the streets and you didn't know his story or anything.
I think he'd think he's like 33.
Yeah, I could see that.
He looks like a young college professor.
Yeah.
Wow.
Oh, Peter's talking all about Jeff Passon's reader.
Let's finish with two minutes on how we think pass and sex games.
Thoreau.
Thurow.
Yeah.
Scheduled.
A lot of foreplay.
Behind the scenes, Bill?
Taste other dudes.
Oh, God.
I knew that was kind of.
Behind the scenes Bill was like,
another sex guy.
Backstage.
He was staying out of the heat,
smart guy,
acting like he was part of the crew.
You were in the heat?
I wasn't in the heat, no.
Other people were.
He was behind where Passon was,
and Passon's Twitter was open.
And Bill says,
I've never seen mentions like that.
He said it was just like a...
Yeah.
All Jeff Passon.
How do you even use Twitter?
You probably go through that.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Mine's not like that.
then.
Start tweeting at Trev.
Just don't tweet at me that much.
Just nice stuff.
You have a cat.
Tweet me a picture of your cat if you have a cat.
Like, the animal.
Well, Gonson's going to be happy.
You said that.
We're leaving.
We're going to the derby.
One of us will get hurt.
Broken nose.
Oh, there it is.
Peter showed me his cat over there.
Love you guys.
My standout is Clay Kershaw.
Almost the first.
Perfect game, no big deal.
My award is talking to Tolkien baseball.
It's the Kershaw Award, and he's Aragorn, and he's the True King.
My standout with sticks, 12Ks, 8 innings, zero and runs.
My standout's the New York, MF, and the Yankees.
Joe's McFly, too.
And Joe's.
