Hello and welcome to talking baseball. It's a big one. It's all JM. It's through July 1st.
Oh, my God. A lot of Jambino. We got to talk some ball.
We've got to talk some damn ball. Max Meyer.
Oh, man. Austin Martin.
That's the end in the inning. That's the end in the inning.
The fish win another game.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball, present by Fanatics Markets, where fans,
trade on sports. Fanatics markets available now on app stores. Welcome, people. It might be a hot one
today. A, it's, we're sneaking up on 4th of July weekend. You got a lot of, you got a lot of pride
in this chat as Pride Month just wrapped up. Now it's American Pride. We need to get those,
we need to get those two sides back together a little more. Treves running hot today,
and I like that. I like that a lot.
And we're going to talk about the best players in baseball.
If you're interested in that, Trev, how are you?
I mean, we shared some photos today on the group chat.
I am running a little hot.
I got up early today, you know.
I think if you're a dad out there, you understand.
The quiet time in the morning before everyone's up is like sacred.
Sometimes I don't get it because I want to sleep a little more.
but when I'm up and you get out there,
I start the fireplace,
I have a coffee,
take the dog out, sit outside for a little bit.
Oh, so I did that this morning.
And look how energized I am, Jake.
I love that.
I obviously, I don't know any masculine feelings, really,
but that's got to be up there.
That's got to, like looking at your land you own,
waiting for your family to get up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
No, no, I just got high in the,
couch and watch Mexico ransack Ecuador last night.
Equally is nice.
And then our local Dunkin shut down.
So the office is really, we're hurting right now.
I had to go to a new coffee place.
I got, aren't we moving anyway?
Oh, whoa.
Hello.
Bleep that out.
Let's talk some baseball.
It's all JM people.
Enjoy your holiday weekend.
And yeah, this should be a fun one.
We, uh, judge John Boy should be
on his way in. I don't know. I know
Dahl is buried in the stats right now. I don't know if we can find Judge John
Boy's wig. Oh, it's right next to my desk. So that's where all the shit ends up.
Hello, cussing. Rumors about the company moving. We've got it all in these first
five minutes. And if you're new to all-JM, I'll try to do it as fast as I can.
Years ago, we're debating players in All-Star Games. And All-Star Game, as it sneaks up on us,
We'll see you guys at our live event, by the way, July 14th in Philly.
My mom, RSVP'd yes and my new dad, Jim.
So watch out, everyone.
Watch, yeah, I know you like those words a lot.
Me and Mama Story, I'll be going to chop it up.
Wow.
Okay.
Oh, I did not compute that yet.
Okay.
Yeah, well, the thing is, Taylor Jackson's mom might be there too.
Right.
And shot, can we say one thing?
Shout out to the moms.
Yeah.
Shout out to the moms.
We talked about that dad power energy that you, me, and Rob have.
But shout out to the moms.
Moms have the real power.
Whoa.
The power.
Life.
We talk about mostly baseball here.
And for all J.M, it's all-star games can sometimes be deceiving.
If you have a couple good months or there's not other good players of your position.
Or if you're a star, maybe you're old.
overshadowing someone who's having a better season.
Shout out Otto MF and Lopez,
not to get ahead of ourselves, but, and we do it by month.
So whoever has the best April,
and then who has the best April-May combined,
who has the best April, May, June combined
leads us through this episode,
not just the best June,
it's the best season to this point.
We give out pedals for each month
that leads to a silver daisies.
That's led to Joe's McFly on the road,
handing out awards to players and their teammates to give to players.
It's been sloppy, but it's a best way to highlight the best players in baseball
because we get caught up watching our teams a lot.
And sometimes you might see a player for a weekend.
And if that's their slump, shout out to Okamoto.
I don't think he's going to win A.L. third base,
but the first time the Yanks played him, he was in his first slump of the year.
He's like, ah, this Okamoto guy.
And then he hit two absolute ding-dongs, a one on an up-and-inch Schlittler pitch.
It's like, oh, yeah.
So we're finding the best players in the league throughout the season.
Coach, anything you need to get off your chest before we do this.
I think, Jake, this is going to be an excellent episode.
Before the show, usually we talk about what we got going on here.
We learned that we have four different votes on the NL side.
One, we talked extensively about already.
behind the scenes. I can't wait to share it with the people. Let's do it, man. Yeah, yes. Then let's.
So we'll start with the NL because it's going to be a little clunkier. We, yeah, we only have
one not lockstep in the AL, which maybe that'll be the hottest thing we go through.
Anyways, in the National League, we'll start off with the catching position. And it had been Drake
Baldwin, Trevor. He got off to that incredible start. Is he, I'm doing, is he the best catcher in
baseball, which I don't know, maybe I was just spurning Mariners fans, but he was also playing
out of his mind. He then gets hurt. He still holds it through May. I don't know if that's
going to continue because he has only played 60 games, so a lot of the stats are still there.
And when he came back, he was in quite a funk. I remember a one for 31 at one point. I think
it got worse than that. William Contreras has constantly hung around this list. Hunter Goodman
looks like he's going to be around whatever list he's invited to coming up.
And then Liam Hicks and the amount of runs he's been driving in early on this season.
Coach, I believe this is one that we agreed on,
so I will let you tee up who it is.
Well, I always say a good inning catcher is a cheat code.
There's one guy that's just been going off.
Salt with my own eyes against my own team.
He just bludgeoned us to death, although we did win the series.
Thank goodness.
I have Hunter Goodman.
He and his 26 homers
and one of the things that I've
really leaned into this year,
and I think that people are going to eventually catch on
because that's what happens.
Usually I do it first,
and then people all join on, right?
Hunter Goodman is actually the guy we talk about with that.
You know, it's okay.
I get it.
I get it.
Big brain over here.
ABS challenges with a catcher is so important.
We don't let pitchers do it.
Unless you're show, hey, Otani, you're mad at your catcher.
It's catchers and batters who are challenging now.
There is a stat, overturns versus expected.
Hunter Goodman is second in that, a 67% flip.
He's won 44 challenges out of 66.
A couple of that with just hitting absolute nukes.
You're going to get my vote for player through June.
Okay.
Yeah, I agreed with you.
You try not to be home runs or everything.
We do a lot of that on our show.
But man, the 26 for Hunter Goodman that end the month as a catcher.
Baldwin's sitting there at 14, Hicks at 13.
Hunter Goodman has the most runs.
He's beaten in RBIs by Contreras and Hicks,
but those have been two of the most electric offenses in baseball.
that I think if Hunter Goodman was on the fish
or if Hunter Goodman was on the Brewers,
I think those RBI numbers would be in a crazy place.
He does get knocked in batting average on base,
and he strikes out.
But if you're going to strike out at that level,
you better be hitting homers.
And I believe he was second in baseball and home runs to Kyle Schwerber.
So think about what we're talking about here.
Kyle Schwerber, who's a guy fighting for MVP votes from the DH position,
Hunter Goodman is the guy homering close to that level that I think it's the pick.
It's not case closed as the year goes for sure, but I do think we got this one, right?
You talk about strikeouts real quick.
It does strike out a ton.
But another stat that I want people to start thinking about when they think about catchers
and what they do for the team, strikeouts gain by challenges.
Hunter Goodman second in the league with 15 strikeouts.
So that's flipping a count or even a walk.
It could be a walk into a strikeout.
15 times he's done that this year.
Ooh.
You love ABS, huh?
I think it's going to, I'm telling you,
we're going to wake up and these catchers who are good at it are going to get paid.
They're going to be the guys.
Congrats to Hunter Goodman.
So we will not,
Drake Baldwin will not get the Silver Daisy,
obviously some injury and some play there.
And congrats on Der Goodman.
And the Rockies getting some love that they deserved.
I think it's time we almost start this episode.
Because NL First Base was one of the toughest positions.
And Trev, I mean, in a beautiful way, it's kind of the guys we thought, right?
If I had told you it was going to be Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, and Matt Olson,
before the year you'd say, yep, Luis Garcia Jr. and Alec Burleson have been turning it up lately.
The first two months it was Matt Olson.
Part of that, Braves, dominant beginning of the season.
He posts every day.
The power is there.
And Trev, this is, I mean, it's the mix that these guys bring.
Freddie Freeman with a little more contact.
Harper and Olson are going toe to toe in a lot of stats.
Olson with a little more pop, Harper with a little more on base.
I guess how did you chop it up and vote?
When you look at, you know, what I thought were the three main guys.
I really it really came down to me actually between Freddie and and Matt Olson.
I end up going Matt Olson.
He's kind of a guy that does everything.
I love Freddie Freeman as well,
but Matt Olson on the defensive side is just a tad bit better than him.
He's got six OAA on the year to Freddie Freeman's two.
When you look at the offensive stats, I mean he's got more homers than him.
He's got more runs driven in.
He's scored more runs.
I mean, they both stolen two bases, not that that matters.
I don't know that they were very close, identical OPSs through June 875,
where I thought the defense to me was a separator, plus the counting stats were in Matt Olson's favor.
So I went with my guy Matt Olson.
This was arguably the hardest one, although second base also ugly in a second coming up.
A couple of these are tight.
Matt Olson had had the throne for me
As I look at these offensive profiles
I have them both above Freddie
I know Freddy's charging right now
But I had Harper and Olson
Just still slightly above Freddie
Outside of the slugging felt like it was in a different realm for me
God but it is really close
I again I'm not trying to put Frederick down here
eventually you've got to pick someone.
I did go Harper.
I thought the extra OPS points
kind of mattered.
And for me, I guess when I break it down to Harper and Olson,
I see 275-276 batting average.
Okay, I can't really split that one.
The on-base percentage for me,
a 375 on base from Bryce Harper
compared to the 345 and Matt Olson,
that's a significantly different player.
That that is kind of what took the vote for me.
375 is an elite elite on-base player.
Matt Olson, that's, you know, it's plus,
but I was a little surprised when I saw it.
And then the slugging is just neck and neck.
So essentially I went on base on it.
Look, I love Bryce Harper.
Negative 9-0AA for me.
That was a separator,
because their offensive stats are eerily similar.
All three of those guys, if we're being honest.
You talk about extra base hits and RBI and stuff like that.
Matt Olson and Harper are basically neck and neck like you mentioned.
But to me, the separator for in this exercise, we got to find something.
To me, it was a defense.
Yeah.
We're talking to 15 runs, 15 outs above average split right there between the two.
And I'll tell you what, Treve.
I have no shame if this one goes one way or the other.
And when it has to go one way or the other,
there's no person better to decide than our rightful judge,
Judge Johnboy, looking for his gab.
He just found it.
Yeah, those are your ears if you want to.
I mean, maybe you don't want to hear what the people say.
The judge, I guess the judge listens and then doesn't.
How does that work?
Good judges listen.
They listen.
You have to listen.
That's the whole job, kind of.
Yeah.
But then at a certain point, it's over.
Yes.
And this is that point.
This is Harper Olson.
This is Harper Olson.
Again, for the people that are tuning in, and this is going fast.
I feel like I was just here.
Is this a quick month?
It's a quick month.
Eh, 30 days.
People that are just tuning in,
I'm trusting that you guys saw all the normal stats, and it was even.
And I'm bringing it to my tiebreaker stats.
I value these stats that I'm about to talk about as tiebreakers,
not as how you judge a guy.
For first base, you're good.
Freddie Freeman has an argument, but they're all in the same bucket.
Well, I get told her to look at, so I only look at it.
at Harper and Olson.
Yeah.
Okay.
So the decision is easy based on the tiebreaker stats that I'm looking at,
which we have a custom, like, website that people can go look at for every player if you want.
It won't update daily, but it'll just be through the month.
Bryce Harper has a better OPS with runners on base, which I value, than Matt Olson.
But that's not enough.
The empty game stat, how many games do you just do nothing?
No sack flies, no sack bun.
no hits, no walks.
You don't reach.
Bryce Harper, 25%.
That's high, fellas.
That's one out of every four games.
Matt Olson, 15.7%.
So he is helping his club in some way more consistently.
And then this is the true kicker where Matt Olson wins it for me.
No match.
You cannot bring in relievers for matchups at the end.
Vers righteys, he's an 899 OPS.
Versed lefties, he's an 847 OPS.
Try to manage against that.
If you have a lights out lefty reliever,
you are happy to use him against Harper.
One dotting versus righties versus lefties 684.
So who would you rather manage against?
Harper, if you have the weapons to get him out.
Olson wins.
Well done.
Well done, Jimmy.
Well done.
I have no qualms.
Judge Jimmy, sorry.
I have no qualms going down with that one.
Obviously love Maddie Olson.
And he continues his pursuit for a Silver Daisy,
with that phone.
I don't want to be privy to that information.
I'm glad I wasn't.
You're not.
I'm not telling you that.
I'm glad I wasn't.
No, no, no.
You can tell me that now.
I'll forget that in a month.
Play with your hair a little bit again.
Yeah.
That's very nice.
I think I need to change the sweatshirt
because it looks kind of like drab.
I need a darker sweatshirt and then it really popped more.
I'm open to that.
I don't know if you want to stay right now.
Is second base on the on the tie-up list?
I'm checking with our judges.
No.
No.
No.
All right.
Then why don't you change your hoodie?
You do look great in that hoodie and that wig.
It's just they don't go together.
Well, I'll figure it out.
All right.
Let's hop over to National League second base.
And Coach Trev, I thought when, so we were pulling back the curtains asking Robin Dahl.
We submitted our votes blind.
And then they told us, yeah, we have five tie, or necessary tiebreakers or votes that needed it to be broken.
I thought NL's second base would be one of them,
just because it's been the juiciest position,
whether you're looking for pop and Brandon Lowe,
whether you're looking for contact and arise in Edwards,
whether you're looking for all around in Terang and J.J. Weatherhole.
It's just stacked that, Trev, I believe we've landed on the same fella.
We got a couple of young pups in the game right now
who are coming in and who are just absolute dogs, ballplayers,
and the guy that I ended up choosing,
because you're right,
you could go up and down this list of guys between,
I mean,
Luis Reyes has been a revelation out there in San Francisco,
Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez,
our two favorite middle infielers together.
Again, be loud what he's done for Pittsburgh, all these things.
I went with JJ Weatherholt for a couple different reasons, Jake.
Number one, he is holding his own offensively.
that's and when you're looking at this exercise he's not going to be the best offensive player although
i think in time he might be um but what i want for my second baseman is well i think defense comes to
mine first uh i need somebody they can turn the double play i need somebody that's going to you want
the ball hit to uh and he's one of the best defenders in all the baseball right now 15 outs above
average is higher than any of these guys and by quite a margin.
Also, nine stolen bases, no caught stealing.
So he's getting on base at a 358 clip and then also stealing some bags.
To me, there wasn't enough, like, offensive separator for me to say, okay, this guy stands
out above.
When the offenses are this similar, usually I will go to stolen bases.
But the defense here, I think, was the biggest thing for.
for me, he's, he's the best in the business right now.
So that's why I went with JJ.
Yes.
And I, you know, you and I, we talk about defensive war a lot.
And it's what do we do with this or any of the defensive stats?
Because guess what?
If there was one that worked consistently, you would hear about it a lot more.
And that would be the way we measure players that you have to hop all over the board.
With JJ Weatherholt, the eye test, which still matters to me.
And I heard a, I heard an analytics quote I like to.
it was actually for my guy Ryan Rissillo about the NBA.
He was like, we have more data and information,
but we still make decisions wrong, like, especially for sport.
Like, just because there's more stuff there doesn't mean the end game is solved.
That for defense, I guess that's what I was tying that quote to,
and I just want to say it today.
For me, this came down to a rise in Weatherhole, weirdly enough,
because a rise's hitting profile is just very impressive.
like he's being that guy again.
And even with the extra base hits, like the doubles are there.
So obviously Weatherhole has the homers.
But I think a rise is offensive profile is a little above Weatherholt's,
but Weatherholt has the speed and he has the defense.
And it's game-changing defense.
I mean, every Cardinals game that I'm catching,
even if it's the highlights, his defense makes the highlights.
It's like impact plays in the game.
these plays that are changing games that I'm complaining about
that teams like don't care about them anymore.
Like J.J. Weatherhole is responsible for them that he got my vote.
He also has a really low babbip.
So like some of these offensive stats should tick up.
Like he's hitting the ball hard and he's squaring it up.
But his bat up is 288 compared to Louisa Rise, who's 326,
Xavier Edwards 342.
Now some of that, you know, with Xavier Edwards,
It has to do with some speed, I think, as well.
But I expect the offensive numbers to take up.
And you're talking about a young guy.
I mean, how old is JJ Weatherhole?
He is 23 years old in his first season.
Just, again, where the Cardinals are at making an impact, I think we got.
There's a couple right choices.
Yes.
But I think in the end, we settled on the right player.
It was Bryce Terang in April.
It was Xavier Edwards in May.
And my goodness, it'll be J.J. Weatherholt.
through the month of June.
The NL second basement position stacked.
Stacked.
Stacked.
Because the AL is not.
No.
Make the trade some AL team because it's charring.
Congrats to the kid.
Wow.
I'd be seeing a lot of weather hole coming up.
Shortstop position.
I guess I'll be interested to see.
Because through the first couple months,
it was C.J. Abrams and N.
Ellie de la Cruz. I mean, just two offensive guys packing a punch with speed, power, and a beautiful
mix. Maricio Dubon made the sheet for NL shortstop, which snaps for him. I mean, maybe he could be
a util vote kind of guy. Trev, the one for me, I'll jump ahead of you. We talk about that Marlins
infield a lot, and Xavier Edwards probably should have gotten more love in that last segment,
because he's tied for the most steals, the batting average and on base are
crazy, and he's just an amazing ball player.
Otto Lopez, who he's paired up with in the middle, I went with him, 333 batting average.
We don't see that anymore, man.
You just don't.
Along with doing enough defensively, especially if I'm comparing him to Ellie, when I'm comparing
him to C.J. Abrams and what they bring on the defensive side of the ball, that for me,
Otto Lopez, 16 stolen bases, 366 on base and 852 OBS.
He was the, this one was shockingly easy for me.
Yeah, another plus defender.
If you can complain about one thing with Aral Lopez is the walk percentage is low,
but he gets hits me.
He's getting on base still at a 366 clip,
which is kind of funny because he is hitting 333.
So you understand where I'm coming from there a little bit,
but you're right.
Base running value is there.
I think when you're talking about guys up the middle,
I want my guys to be able to run the bases.
Otto Lopez does that
And defensively again
Yeah just another guy that's getting the job done
Kind of like on all facets of the game
And I'm thinking of middle infielders
That's what I want
I want guys they can pick it
I want guys that are going to hit
But I also want guys that I want the ball hit too
And Otto Lopez is one of those guys
So I think he is the right choice here as well
Congrats
To Otto Lopez
Wow Abrams Ellie De La Cruz
Otto Lopez
I think we've got another speed one before.
I'm very interested.
I think Judge Johnboy is going to have a lot to rule on the rest of the way.
I don't think it's NL 3rd Base because Max Muncie had it in April.
Max Muncie had it in May.
And Max Muncie, and I'm not saying this with Shade because these are the guys that made the sheet,
currently competing with, and these are Daltz, Daltz NL third base competitors,
Nick Gonzalez, Curtis Mead on the dock.
Yeah.
And big old Sal Stewart, who 32 games at third base, I didn't even know.
I knew he could.
I didn't know our Reds would.
That Max Muncie is just in another territory than all of those players.
He's having one of the best offensive seasons at age 35, almost turning 36,
August 25th, happy early birthday, big guy.
He's the forgotten man with the Dodgers.
Unless you talk to somebody on the Dodgers team.
This guy is a stalwart in that lineup and has been for quite some time.
Glue guy, if you will, 361, 512, 873.
That's, yeah, I guess that's the stats.
It says July 1st for reading this.
Maybe I shouldn't have said that because we're dropping this episode on July 3rd.
I don't know.
Max Muncie is the right play here.
Congrats to Max Muncie.
And yeah,
not many glue guys putting up seven war seasons,
which he's currently on pace for,
but that's a Dodgers glue guy.
God,
what did Sean McVeigh tell me
glue guy stood for again?
Oh,
God.
If I Google it,
you think it'll come up.
Guy lifts everybody.
Guy lifts up everybody.
Guy lifts up everybody.
Yeah.
He does.
He does.
He does.
Strong.
See the pictures of Sean McVey lately?
Yes, you bring them to our attention.
Oh, yeah, I did, didn't I?
On that Bowden, Khan.
Cans?
Khan.
I don't know.
James Khan.
USA, baby.
USA, it's our birthday.
RIP,
although France helped us out with that.
Trev, I guess I'm scared where the rest of this is going to take us.
I know our pitching controversy, and I can't wait to hear Judge Jimmy on that one.
The outfield, I'm shocked because we're not aligned on DH, which you and I are
both scared of, and I think we...
Yeah.
Maybe we both thought we were going to go with the other guy.
It's Shoah and Schwaber,
which I guess we will see who won that war.
And then there's going to be a util vote, which we leave to the fan.
So some of this will get sorted out.
I guess walk me through your outfield.
I think I knew...
I think I now know who you went with.
Well, number one, we always have to have a center fielder.
This should be easy.
So far that year, it's been...
been Andy Pah has.
Correct.
We're going with PCA.
He had one of the best months in baseball history.
PCA, welcome to the 11 homers in the month club.
Wow.
Welcome.
It's a short list.
I know.
You know, he's probably thinking about texting Caleb.
He's you in another life.
You each have your quarterback.
You each have 11 home runs.
You're both Cali boys.
God, I wish I was just.
I mean, if I was just this much better at baseball,
you ever think about that?
I do all.
Every day.
Every day.
Shout out PCA.
An electric month, and remember it followed,
like, were people were questioning what was going on with this guy?
I'm playing into it with fans.
I'm playing center field for Central Connecticut State.
We upset Florida State in the first round of the tournament.
On a seventh round pick of the Brewers,
I'm Caleb Durbin.
Oh, my God.
They immediately turn you into a bullpen.
catcher.
No knees. I can't do it.
PCA, congratulations. 20 steals, 18 home runs,
the defense, a 373 on base,
which I think that's the one for me.
When you looked at PCA's stat line last year,
I think he landed around 293.
Like, he's getting on base at an elite.
Everything's elite right now.
And it's part of what's kind of saving the Cubs right now.
So now, do we have four disagreements the rest
the way the two corner outfielders, the
DH and the starting pitcher. Oh,
boy. It sounds like it.
And I actually can't believe you don't have this guy.
Only one corner outfielder.
Okay. I'm expecting you to have
your snake on there. Yes, I do.
Corbyn Carroll, who's been fantastic.
And one of the more
underrated guys in all of baseball
extra base hit machine,
I will call him.
Ten triples already.
It's just what he does, man.
And every time you look up, he's pulling a ball down the right field line in Arizona for a triple.
Yeah.
That is what he does.
It's incredible.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah.
Snaps for Corby and Carol.
The extra base hits are there and they're crazy.
Yeah.
There's not much to say.
He's an absolute speed demon.
The sole bases aren't wild, but, you know, he can, he's turning things into doubles and
triples and scoring.
Yeah.
I think the defense has improved.
Corbyn Carroll, you're right. You're right. So I'm glad I missed count it there.
Okay. So this last outfield spot was, was wide open to me. So I'm interested to see where we landed.
There's, I think there's three people that we could talk about here. It's Soto, it's James Wood,
and it is Andy Paez, in my opinion. Andy Paa has, man, I love watching him play defense.
There, there, there was a play against the twins where Mookie Betts,
gets the assist because he got the relay throw from Andy Pahez.
But the way Andy did it, he played it like a shortstop, got a ball in the gap, didn't set his feet whatsoever.
He threw it sidearm, like almost like not GDRS, because he didn't really jump for it.
He just kept going with his momentum towards the left field foul pole, but just slaying it in their sidearm like a shortstop would right to Mukki Betts.
because that's the fastest way to get it to your infielder's hands,
and they end up throwing out my twin at the plate.
And it's just like he does things like this all the time.
And I think when you mix that with what he's able to do at the plate,
because he's playing center field,
that's what put him over the other two for me.
If you're doing these things at the center field position,
if your offense looks like that and you're playing a bang or a center field,
I'm going to put you above the corner outfielder that bangs.
Like, that's just how I will rate you in an exercise like this.
So I did go with Andy Paz for my third outfield spot.
You're all over it.
I think Brian Reynolds, is there some love here and the heater he's been on?
For me, a Soto ruled out because of games, 67 games to me.
Paez with 85, wood with 87.
Like, that's a significant gap.
And the production isn't that far off, especially when you include
the defense. I know that Soto highlight went around
the other day that kind of allowed an inside
the park home run. So, Soto
ain't there to play defense in the nicest
way. Now here it is. Here's the Pahas
play. Look at this. On Buck, Daddy.
Austin Martin,
why aren't you on your horse, kid?
You got to, yeah, they got to show it again.
They got to show it again.
What was that? From the side angle.
They don't have just the isolated on him.
You can tell what he does here.
Watch him going here. He just doesn't even take, just
Sard him. Yeah.
He missed it, but he just slings it in there.
It was an amazing play.
I'm impressed by him.
I didn't love what I saw from Austin Martin there.
For me, you're right.
Everything he said about center field is right.
Trevor James Wood, he's got him by five home runs.
He's got Pahez by, what is it, eight stolen bases.
He's got him on-base percentage.
by almost 50 plus points.
And the thing, as I was looking at these National League outfielders,
that there's an impressive group here,
I was looking for anything that jumped out.
Trev, I know this is an old-school stat that we don't, like,
give the love to it should.
James Wood has 73 runs scored.
Pa has with 52.
Like, on this sheet, I know that a lot of it goes to the Nats' offense,
a lot of it goes to James Wood being really good.
He can also fly, dude, that I don't know.
On this whole page, runs rarely jumps out.
Know what I like?
20 more runs.
So that's where I went with it.
All right.
I think some of that has to do with where he's hitting the lineup as well.
But I don't think there's a wrong answer here.
James Wood, incredible.
I will say the strikeout percentage is pretty high.
But he makes up for it because he hits homers.
and I get it.
I like the offensive profile.
I just went with Paix because of the center field play.
I, God, I respect you.
And let's remember that with these upcoming conversations.
Speaking of respect, the ultimate respect,
the judge and the jury himself,
James O'Brien, Esquire.
Got Trev with that one.
James will start off with it.
There's an outfield position battle between James Wood and Andy Paez.
Yeah.
This one is very close in my stats.
So I backtrack to the stats you guys have and it's not close at all.
So I'm confused.
As far as the empty game, they're the same 18%, 19%,
which I don't know if you'd think that due to James Wood strikeout rate being so high,
but Pahas walk rate is incredibly low.
So he actually very slightly has more empty games than James Wood.
there are OPS with runners on base,
which I think is of value when you're looking at a differentiator.
Both great, 978 and 940.
And then they're both basically split-proof.
The weakest OPS is Pahas versus right-hand pitchers,
but it's 805.
So all of that, Nolan Void, went to base running.
James Wood, base running value is higher than Pahas.
And then I just went to straight-up OPS,
and it's almost 100 points higher.
So I'm going to go with James Wood.
with my selection.
Can I make my case just quick?
I respect you, Judge, and I won't, you know,
don't want to take away.
Yeah, careful.
I respect you, Judge.
I think the center field position means something.
But this is just outfielder, right?
He's an excellent defender in center field.
So that's why I gave him my vote over James.
Now, when I was a member of a three-person panel,
we already have a center fielder.
We have a center fielder,
which means any remaining center field that doesn't win the center field
loses the extra value there
because that would be rude
to the corner outfielders.
That's how I always do.
Yeah, well, everyone's a center fielder till they're not.
Everyone's a shortstop till they're not.
Exactly.
Everyone's starting pitcher till they're not.
James.
Besides Greg Weissert,
think he was always...
If you play the reliever position
shortstop or pitcher, I guess,
fucking pitchers, get out of here.
Oh, we're about to have that talk.
I don't know. I respect you.
Congrats to James Wood.
Thank you.
It's good.
I heard I'm staying.
You are staying, Jim, and this one...
This is insane, Jimmy.
Okay, easy.
Judge Jimmy, excuse me.
Do you even know what we're talking about yet?
Oh, we're not even there yet.
Yeah, we're doing...
Okay, thank you.
I'm sorry for his actions.
Okay.
The DH position.
This one, actually, Trevor and I are both...
We might have actually flipped coins at home
and each landed on the opposite pick.
Shohay Otani versus Kyle Schwerber.
It's different...
Oh, Jeff.
I have a question.
Did Shohei Otani win the fan vote last?
He did.
He did.
That's crazy.
He won that somehow.
Yeah, Schwerber won it the first.
Oh, I shouldn't be saying this stuff in front of the judge, so I won't.
It's Schwerber versus Otani.
Otani has a lot of all-around stats that are a little better.
Kyle Schwerber has that thing he do.
Judge, what did you see?
This is also incredibly close.
It's scary close.
I mean, their OPS is the same, basically, 954 and 951.
Otani has the lowest split versus lefty pitchers.
It's 846.
He also has the highest split versus varieties.
It's one dot.
It's good.
Schwerber, where Schorber wins out in one margin, a lot,
is his OPS when runners are on base, which is his job.
Like, these are RBI men.
You're designated hitter.
If you're a designated hitter and you're not coming through with runners on base,
get out of here.
Like, I almost think they, like, I don't care what they do with the base is empty that much.
Otani's fast, so that helps.
But he's got a 1.223 OPS when runners are on base, Schwabre.
So when the team needs him to help out, he's doing his job.
Otani's got a 912.
He's not knocking Otani.
It's just like that's a crate.
That's 300 points higher.
Getting in front of the Otani people, Your Honor.
He does lead off.
Yes, that's one.
He's losing one at that.
Schwerver did lead off.
He doesn't anymore.
Remember when he did let off?
Yeah.
Never liked it.
Never liked it.
He made much sense.
Otani's got a lower empty game percentage.
This one's like very tough.
Is Otani stealing bags or has he stopped doing that?
Six swipes to two.
to two.
That's not enough for Otani to win out on that.
I'm going to go with
Shohei Otani,
beyond base percentage, the empty game rate.
He's day in, day out, doing everything.
That's really tough because I like what Schwerber's doing a lot.
That's probably the toughest decision I've had to make as a judge,
so I don't want anyone to ridicule me in any way possible, or you're done.
That's okay.
I think it might just be a little over.
I could see Kyle Schwerber in the fan vote this time,
and he might be able to find his way in that way.
And yeah, I, you're great.
You've been a lovely judge.
Thank you.
Thank you, Judge.
You're one, one v.1, by the way, or one in one between Jake and I.
It's very impartial of you.
It's not about that.
To me, it is.
Well, it's about to be split.
Haven't I done three?
You have to, he has done three.
Oh, who'd you pick then?
Uh, first base was.
Harper Olson.
Was the first one.
He was Olson.
Oh, two to one me.
Okay.
Yeah.
Again, it's not about that.
It's never been about that.
And it might be four to one because let's do the pitcher.
Pitching has always been tricky on this one because you get a lot of different flavors of ice cream, as I like to call them.
These are two of the more fun ones.
Judge, it came down in a stacked group.
Shohei somehow pops up here, too.
People forget that.
Max Meyer's been incredible.
But I think there were two guys head and shoulders above, if you,
will, Jacob Mizorowski and Christopher Sanchez.
Crazy.
Now, I have my own stat, average game score.
I think everyone should make their own average game score
and put in the numbers that they value.
So this is what I value.
And it's very simple.
It's called simple game score.
It's how many outs you record as a pitcher.
And every out after the sixth inning is worth 1.33.
So if you complete the seventh,
instead of just getting three points, you're getting six.
I value going deep and getting innings.
Every earned run docks you one of those points.
And every unearned run docks you half of a point.
You know, pick up your fielders. Be nice.
They're very close and that.
Christopher Sanchez is higher.
18.6.
Average simple game score, Jacob Mizraowski is 17.9.
Now, the most you can get is 30.
You go complete game shutout.
That's 30 points.
Both these pitchers have done that this season.
They both topped out at 30.
If you get 16 points, I call that a chance to win.
If you lose that game, it was not the starting pitcher's fault.
They did everything they could to give you a chance to win.
It's a little better than a quality start.
Christopher Sanchez, 72% of his starts, he's given his team a chance to win.
That beats out Jacob Mizrowski at 69.
Then I have what's called a dud percentage.
If you lost, it's a starting pitcher's fault.
That's under 10 points out of the 30.
No duds from Mizorowski.
Two duds from Christopher Sanchez.
If you go to the game log on those duds, how bad were they?
5.1 innings, six earned runs is one of them.
That's not great.
And I think five innings pitched five earned runs.
Christopher Sanchez has made two more starts and pitched more innings
and has a better average simple game score.
Christopher Sanchez is my vote.
I might be held in contempt right now.
That's insane that you.
you went with Christopher. Both of you thinking Christopher Sanchez has been a better starting
pitcher than Jacob Mizorowski this year is crazy. He's allowed more than double the hits,
more than double the hits. It's not a, it's not a Jacob Miserables. It's not a hit competition.
It's a lot. I think that's kind of what pitching is. They're a run.
guys off base. 0.77 whip for Jacob Miserowski.
0.77. But it's a run scoring competition. He has a man.
Well, he's got a two ERA. He's started, made more starts. He's pitched deeper, helped his bullpen out more.
It's not his, it's not his, Miserowski didn't miss starts, dude. It's not his fault. It's just the way the schedule has lined up. That's crazy. Why? How does he have two more starts? Schedule wise.
I'm sure Jacob Miserowski is probably pitching today or tomorrow. And they maybe missed a game. Like, there's, it's, it's, it's, that's negligible. It's not. He's got more, more, more, more, more, more, should.
Okay, more strikeouts in two less games than Christopher Sanchez.
What are, what are innings?
What?
Miserowski's pitching, Mizorowski's pitching on six days a lot.
You're saying that's just schedule?
It's not his, it's not his fault.
He's not the one doing that.
Okay.
He's been by far the best pitcher in baseball this year.
I can't believe, I can't believe you guys went that way.
I'm actually upset.
Oh, there's, there's predict, there's predictive, uh,
I love Christopher Sanchez.
I do.
I think he's been more valuable.
I think you're like dead wrong.
That's fine.
That's why this country has a judicial system
where we bring in a well-respected member.
That's crazy, dude.
It looks like it went from 2-1 to 2-2, didn't it?
Opponents hitting 143 against Jacob Mizorowski.
That's great.
It's fantastic.
14 hits out of 100 batters.
It's really good.
It's really good.
All right.
Congrats.
I respect the judge.
Christopher,
Christopher Sanchez has completed eight innings twice.
Mizorowski has only done that one, or three times,
and Merzorowski only done it once.
It's trending that way, big time for you.
We're going to look back to this and Jacob Mizorowski should have won the Silver
Days of this year and we're like, oh, you guys, you guys screwed up in June.
We've always been contentious with the,
starting pitching.
Show heads.
Because I take all the predictive stats.
Actually, I was just talking to Logan in here that the, the GMs, the advanced scouts,
they made all these stats to predict the future of players.
And the general public is using those to grade past results.
And that's not even what they're using it for.
No, not at all.
So we are using measurements that front office is built to say,
How will this guy do next year or in the coming months and saying this is how they did it last year?
But they're not even, that's not what they're meant for.
So we've got a big issue in the baseball stat world, in my opinion, where we're using these stats to tell you how a guy's season was.
But it's not result stats.
It's predictive stats.
Or using result stats here.
This is bigger than this combo.
It's just like everywhere I see is like not results conversation.
They're predictive conversation.
So that's my judge had the floor and he took it.
I want on record that I think this is the wrong pick.
Misarowski wasn't in line for the full Silver Daisy.
Anyways, it was Shohei Otani in April,
Jacob Miserowski through May and now Christopher Sanchez through June.
Maybe we put a little Sanchez-Mezerowski cheese on it, Trev.
And maybe that's a way you and I can sort this out.
What does that even mean?
Maybe a little bet.
Oh, like a Saw Young?
Yeah.
Saw Young side?
I don't know.
I don't know Miserowski's going to be better than Sanchez the rest of the way.
Gosh, that was.
That hurt.
That was a tough NL.
You thought you had that on lock.
Yeah, I did.
Okay.
So wait.
This says,
and this is what I was told behind that,
the brewers are actively pacing Miserowski by skipping him
and using a six starter.
They also have a better bullpen.
Okay.
But it's not just scheduling.
They're,
their,
his innings are being limited.
his fault, not his fault.
Christopher Sanchez's innings are not being limited.
He's a horse and he's been taking the ball every five days.
I mean, you're acting like Mizorowski.
He's got two less starts.
I wish my hands are tied here.
I can only grade between two people.
I mean,
Otoni and Schwerber was closer than this and you're grading between two people.
If you were to talk about Shohei, who's really getting the ball every six days,
that's different.
He didn't come to arbitration.
I didn't even look at Chohay-A.
He's not involved in this process.
Yeah, I'm an arbiter.
I get two things.
I choose between the two.
I can't bring in any third options.
You love that process, the arbitration process.
That's getting negotiated over, huh?
Let's, uh, while we have Judge Jimmy here, there's one AL position.
Should we just, let's fast forward to what that position is so we can let him get back to maybe, like,
or reading some lips or something crazy out there.
And hey, guys, a little internal thing.
We're working on something fun.
We're looking for the best broadcast call, TV or radio from your team this season.
We want one call from every single team.
If there's a call from this season that's been stuck in your head,
tell us, submit a link to the clip or write it down word for word if you remember it that well.
Link to the form is in the description.
Give it a check.
We're going to make some fun content out of it.
Thank you, guys.
So what's the AL position that we're not agreeing on?
Second base.
Really?
Oh, okay.
That's fine.
That's fine.
And I wish there was a third option, no one.
Because these guys stink.
You're not wrong.
I mean, you're the judge.
There's a chance.
It was shocking.
Please, Trevor.
Mine sucks because he's a guy that plays all over the,
he's truly a utility player.
But I went with Ezekiel Duran.
because he plays great defense,
kind of no matter where you put him.
And again, second base,
one of the things I value most about that position is,
like you want the ball hit to him.
Again,
hasn't played a ton of second base.
Only 30, or should be 23 games,
30 at shortstop.
It also plays left field.
So, like, it's a weird choice.
But nobody, like, nobody is running away with this whatsoever.
So I don't, I mean, yeah,
I'm okay with you choosing someone different.
Yeah.
kill duran i believe also and i know you're not supposed to hear this had the first two months and you have to
in my mind you have to be knocked off oh my god oh my god what did they say and we short that from the record
strike that yeah strike that we used to talk about that when this show when this show used to mean something
it was you had to be knocked off the throne so i i partially agree with that i can't jazz is if you like
war and stolen bases but he's kind of been like almost a disappointing season um
Pazana doesn't have games.
Cole Young has been solid, but Duran and Ernie Clement,
who again both have some like utility stuff there,
that's what it came down to for me.
I ended up liking Ernie Clement has, what is it,
25 more hits in my head that matters.
But this was gross.
I didn't like this.
I, you know, again, with the good judge here,
I went Ernie Clement.
With the good judge here,
there has been a time when we've done a.
rollover month that if someone goes and wins it truly in July, they get both months.
I'd be open to something on the table, but if the judge would like to rule in a favor, I'm also
Why we have a judge. I'm out on that. Why we have a judge. The judge likes that. But if you want
to just hear the process here, he saw all the great numbers. And I know second base in the American
League stinks. stinks. So it's just a marker on everyone else. These guys are pretty similar.
both have the same splits versus lefty and versus righty in the 700s, low 700s.
Empty game, you're going to have Ernie Clement has less empty games.
Ezekiel Duran has more.
So Ernie would win that tiebreaker.
Ezekiel Duran has much higher OPS with runners on, 881 versus Ernie Clement 752.
But that would balance it out.
That would be one in one.
And then you're even there.
So I go to base running.
Turns out both these guys don't run the base.
at all.
They don't go first to third.
They don't score from first on a double.
They don't steal.
Didn't know.
I thought I was going to go and get some base ring numbers.
We were just me and Logan and were back there.
What?
These guys don't move.
They're station to station players.
That was a little bizarre as we show one of the.
That's the one time.
No.
Clement has done it once.
Duran's in at five.
First and third.
So here's the judge will throw it back to the there were a democracy here.
I brought up flip a coin.com.
If you'd rather push it to July.
But I can't.
There's nothing here that makes me even interested in the case.
If I had like an underling judge, I'd be like, hey, take this for me.
There's bigger things at hand.
So I can't do.
I'm good on, I can't do that.
This is this.
And I vote to, I vote.
I vote to table.
it to July. FSC.S.C.
Well, I think he did, I think
Trev doesn't want flip a coin. He would
would you rather table. Oh, I thought he didn't want a table.
He doesn't want either. I want a, I want a
resolution judge. I'll give it to the people. These are
their only two choices. Ernie Clement just won the fan vote.
Ernie Clement just won the entire American League fanbo.
We can't bring this to the people. Toronto. Toronto's got a little bit of a
Kansas City 2016 situation going on. They just found out.
about baseball, they're voting for all their players like crazy.
It's nuts.
I'm putting my glasses on and making a big boy to do you know, there's, do you know,
has MLB rigged that yet?
Not yet.
Every time a T, a fan base takes over the voting like this, it never pans out.
MLB just like alters it, like, okay, never mind.
Mosaki's lost by one vote.
Oh, no.
If we can't even make a decision,
and you're trying to table it or flip a freaking coin.
Ezekiel Duran needs another month to see if he can get the silver.
He's the incumbent.
I will say as someone, you know, I've wanted to get into the jury game.
Actually, I have a bad jury duty.
No, what's this, Rob?
Cole Young won one.
Oh, my God.
Am I reading the sheet wrong?
You might be the in.
Well, no, Zeke Duran won last month.
That's the incumbent.
Yeah.
Correct.
Yeah.
These guys are never
That was going to be rude
These guys are never getting it silver days
Good young ball players
I think Zeke Duran says there is
What how do they phrase in court
When there is history that something stays
Are we?
President?
Yeah
I don't know if that's a couple of April as well
I did not
Okay Duran stays
Yes
Congrats
If Ernie grabbed a couple bags man
What are we doing?
Trev station to station base
ball.
Kirk Herb Street doesn't like it either, bro.
So.
Kirk Herb Street is kind of right.
No, he's not.
He says there's no athleticism.
Yeah, that's wrong. That's wrong. That's wrong.
It's too much athleticism in the game.
I almost responded saying, no, Kirk, we have too many athletes and not enough ball players.
That's what the, if you want to be an old head, that's what you say.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He had a good follow up to Brady.
He's like, I just missed watching the game how I grew up watching.
And I was like, yeah, it is, it is different than that.
It's getting back to it.
I mean, the stolen bases are fun.
I really like the way baseball's going.
Jimmy, real quick.
I shared a very hot take.
I can't say it on here.
Oh, I here's my thing, Jimmy.
I think you're going to love it.
Okay, because we have, you and I have big baseball minds.
We still have not seen the third pickoff attempt come into play.
And why not?
If you know these guys are going to steal the base,
anyway? And now he's not even listening.
No, I can hear you. He knows.
He knows. I hear you.
If you're going to let, if you're a guy that can't hold runners on or maybe your catcher can't
throw, whatever it is, or maybe the guy is just a great base dealer.
If you pick off twice, why are, why are we not just trying a third time?
The leads they get after two pickoffs are egregious.
They're ridiculous.
So, so some places, some teams are doing.
I know Toronto will Toronto will throw over a couple of.
twice and then they'll run a catcher back pick
thinking it's like an advanced strategy
because now the guy's going to take a deeper lead
and will because it's off
and now we'll throw a catcher back pick. I've seen them do that
a couple of times. The Orioles
and
and
Burns, Corbin Burns, they didn't give a
fuck in the year when he was on the Orioles
about that rule at all. They would
always throw over twice so I'm not sure if that was
an organizational or they shifted away or if that was
a 14. He's picked off a third time.
Yeah, he would throw over three times.
So I want you to take it to Boone and say,
keep this one in your back pocket for the playoffs.
That's what I thought was going to happen.
I thought these guys were like, all right, during the playoffs,
we're going to actually bring this out.
The guy that comes in to swipe a bag,
we're going to pick twice,
he's going to get a big lead,
and then we're going to pick a third time, and he's out.
What I've seen is that teams are trying to run
involved pickoff plays.
It's definitely the Yankees.
I've seen other teams do it more,
like they're trying to,
navigate this by running more like football drill plays like break to the bag timing plays and they
can't do it like it's like they didn't do it in spring trains yeah you don't practice it i um i got a
gripe with all you baseball players hating practice treff like like it's it's dude what a bizarre
world that like you know that will mire's clip where he's talking about andy green he's got us doing uh relay
drills. It's terrible. I'm like, yo. Football players practice five times for one game.
You guys can't practice basics of the game once a fucking week. I mean, they don't play every
day. That's different. I understand it, but there's like this stigma that MLB players have against
practicing like between the ball skills. Well, I will say this. I somewhat agree with you.
they are taking more ground balls and doing more infield work than I've ever seen in my life.
Like everybody is doing the Ron Washington stuff.
Every single day they're out there doing that.
Plus they take a ton of ground balls before batting practice.
So if you were just to take some of that out and then instead do some like outfielders need to throw.
Jake and I haven't talked about this forever.
And infielders need to do cutoff practice.
Dude, the cutoff is gross.
I think that's an outfielder problem.
I think infielders, that's like something like that's pretty easy.
for you to do like in and out of your glove the outfielders and maybe you guys are watching something
different maybe is volpey just stink at it or something jazz is got a lollipop in his mouth which
by the way is ridiculous i don't care what anybody says it's insane that people think it's okay to
have a lollipop on the field but outfielders can't throw anymore um there's just they don't practice
there's just not like the ladder drill going on uh relay throws from middle infielders used to be
so fluid and smooth even carlos carrie in 2018 like i haven't seen a highlight of him do it anymore
Great.
You know, Jeter used to do it all in one motion, like a slow-mo horse gallop.
And you just don't see that anymore.
I feel like team practice should be back in.
But MLB players fucking, like, despise it.
They'll do the individual practice, no problem.
And that is the growing Kirk Herb Street thing of this has just become an individual sport of,
I'm going to hit, I'm going to pitch.
and the between the ball team play has just gotten so sloppy.
Agreed.
No bump plays or pickup plays ever get practiced, ever get practiced during the year.
Yeah.
Relay plays are part of that, yeah.
Teams don't throw to the, to get the trail runner.
Like trail runners are advancing like crazy,
which now kills the double play.
So I know every team is different,
but I feel like there's just not a precedent on it anymore.
Well, now more than ever, I think it's like,
can you hit, we'll find a position for you.
Can you just freaking make contact with the ball?
We'll find a position for you.
People are playing all over the field.
We're coming out of it a little bit.
Yeah, the shift helped that because second base was truly a DH
when Muscoqas went to the Reds and they were like,
I think what you're saying, Trev, it's a little bit of what used to happen.
I think it's this conversation combined is so many guys are short stops or centerfielders
or whatever it is.
And then they get to the big leagues and then they're playing another position.
But they're not practicing that.
position.
Yeah, I agree.
That's what I'm saying.
Like, if you come up as a shortstop, you probably don't need to practice relay throws a
bunch.
But all of a sudden, you're at first base, and it's just so you got a different glove on.
Rice Lewis.
Yeah, it's interesting.
The twins of chains are infield.
We're getting off topic here.
And Chris Rose has already texted me.
Yeah.
Okay.
I miss our baseball combos.
Judge, you've been fantastic.
Thanks.
Yeah, thank you.
I could watch that all day.
I do.
And I fit into the shirt nicely.
You look great.
It's a medium.
I was worried about it.
I told you.
I've kind of switched.
I got an Excel in that.
It's massive.
I've switched to medium for a lot of our shirts.
Sometimes it works.
This is a medium.
I look great.
Yeah.
It's snug.
Those people are like,
yeah,
looks good on you.
I feel not good.
Yeah.
This one,
I feel fine.
So if you guys are want to,
the tie die talking baseball,
the tie dyes run a bit big.
Go get it.
But they're nice.
They're like nice structured solid shirts.
Yeah, nice.
They're like a.
Love you.
Warm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Ladies and gentlemen.
Coach, we got to rip through the rest this.
Yeah, no, I mean, I wasn't trying to, well, I could have done this in a douchey way.
My calendar is so jacked up today.
A little ad I signed up to do casuals with Katie Nolan, so I was excited about that and excited to be invited.
But boy, has it fucked my day, and we are running a little late.
So let's do one thing.
Let's close a loop on the National League.
We need to get our fan vote lined up.
I didn't want to pass that.
That means it would be Schwaber.
Shwerber.
Freddie Freeman.
Oh, boy.
I like it.
Oh, and Harper.
Let's go Harper.
You had Harper.
Oh, wow.
Big boy.
Done.
Trev.
You and I have our differences.
But God, when it's time to get down to business,
when it's time to get dirty, you and I.
We're coming up on the All-Star games, where we shine.
Oh, ho.
Shaking hands.
Oh, Phidly.
us returning. I'm not going out with Jeff Passon. I'm going to put that out there right now.
Us returning to our Philadelphia. All right. Let's do some American League baseball. And like we have now told you guys, I guess what is it, 10 picks? You and I, nine out of 10 in lockstep. So let's go around the horn, Big Dog. Who's your catcher?
My catcher is going to be the same catcher as last month. It's Dylan Dingler, who he's been incredible.
at the dish also again with my aBS he's one of the best if not the best um he has 12k's flip uh the
overturns versus expected he leads the league in that 71% win rate 45 out of 63 challenges one
mix that with the offense that he's putting out there right now a 19 homers from this guy
59 runs driven in if it wasn't for dylan dingler where would the tigers be i mean
they're already kind of like hanging on by a thread.
He's my AL-catcher.
Yes, so Langalears had been setting a world-beating pace at the catcher position.
Dingler went nuts last month.
He won dotted as a catcher.
333 batting average of 1.0.0.0.
Not the quickest transfer time, but God, that throw is on the money.
And yeah, you're absolutely right.
I mean, it's one of the, it's the weird Tigers conversation.
It's like, wait, Dingler's a beast and McGonagall's a beast,
and how is this team still not?
It might be happening soon,
or they're just playing my Yankees as we record this.
But he overtakes Shea Langalears,
who had it for the first two months.
We had a nice Langalears Dingler debate last month
because you had the ABS numbers.
Langalear still had the offensive numbers.
Dingler caught him, and I think defensively he hasn't beat that.
Shout out, respect.
I think Petriello or someone wrote an article about him being the new best catcher in baseball,
which I'd say the throne's open.
That's what I would say.
Ryan Jeffers still like top seven in war and hasn't played in two months.
Stop with the Yankee bias.
Let's go.
Got to all with that one.
Let's go to first base.
Trev, we've got a, we got some mallers.
Pete Alonzo has, oh, shocker, he's having a Pete Alonzo.
season. Weird. Ben Rice was set in the world on fire. He slowed down a little bit. Wilson
Contreras and Jonathan Randa in that ALE's both bopping the ball around. But a big man,
a big old Amish boy, is doing historic things that 937 OPS, the walks, the strikeouts. I know sometimes
we act like we fight true outcomes, but when you're a certain level of good at it, he has 75 walks. I
I think that's almost, it's almost double these other guys.
Yeah, I'm with you.
Nick Kurtz offensively just, you know, I think that's what, I mean, Ben Rice had it
the first two months.
So you got to be able to beat him, especially at first base on the offensive side.
And I think Nick Kurtz, when it's all sudden done, at the end of the year,
we're looking at a top five or six hitter in all the baseball.
So I'm in on the Nick Kurt's train.
I love Ben Rice and what he's done.
but I think he just gets edged out here by our guy out there in Sacramento.
And it was a tough June for Ben.
He really limped down the stretch.
He finishes June with a 196 batting average and a 657 OPS.
So that's how it's going to go down, Benny Boy.
Second base, we obviously had the fantastic Judge O'Brien help us get through that nonsense.
So we can fast forward to shortstop where it's been an A.S.
Central Party this year.
McGonigle had it the first month.
Bobby Witt, Jr.
came in guns ablazing.
And I think it comes down to those two yet again.
Pena's been missing game.
Rokio and Montgomery are on the leader.
This A hell central, Trev,
it's what you've been telling the people.
Where'd you go between McGonagall and Witt?
I think Colston Montgomery is fantastic.
I love watching this guy play.
Somehow he's got a ton of swag,
but he's from Indiana.
Dude, like who's the only other guy that has swag coming out, Indiana?
Is it Larry Bird?
That's it?
I could make an argument.
Schwarber is an Indiana guy?
I know he's kind of a reverse swag.
Oh, H-I-O.
He went to University of Indiana.
Is Larry Bird from Indiana?
Did I make that up?
I believe, yes.
If Larry Bird's not from Indiana, then end the simulation.
That's my mind.
The Hick from French Lick.
Okay.
I love Colson Montgomery.
I truly do.
Follow me back on Instagram.
dude what the hell weird um mcgonigal great uh great story offensively he's awesome uh he has
been mixing in a lot of third base as well the pro look there's a bunch of guys having great
seasons mcgonigal is going off dude he's 21 years old another tiger having a great year yet
there's still what nine games under 500 or something like that uh it's bobby wood junior man
it's the second best player in baseball,
third best player in baseball,
whatever you want to call them?
This one was tough.
Man,
McGonagall has Bobby Widd
and on-base percentage by almost 30 points.
Wits got him in slugging by almost 50 points.
The weighted runs created plus is almost the same exact number,
and you're like, dude, this McGonigal freak,
maybe I'm letting the name do too much work.
I don't think I am because Bobby Witt double the home.
28 swipes.
Double the homers, the stolen bases,
28 to 11.
Those are different baseball players speed-wise.
And, you know, I know McGonigal is a dog over there.
Bobby Witt defensively is the best in the business.
Someone else would just tie with him for 15 ounce above average.
I mentioned it early on the show.
Weatherholt.
Weather hole.
Weather hole.
Yeah, Bobby Witt, who earned the throne.
And we already saw the precedent.
to stay on the throne.
Bobby Witt, Jr. is your American League shortstop.
McGonigle go ahead of in April.
Bro, and he could it?
This is, I was surprised the vote didn't get split here,
but I don't know.
It's not bad going with Bobby Witt,
and those 28 steals are mind-bottling.
And you know what else was weird to me?
And maybe this is why people,
this is why this show is different.
We reveal you all our insights.
to me there was something icky about McGonagall and Dingler being on this team
and somehow the Tigers are bad.
I don't think it affected my vote,
but it was just like, wait,
the best catcher and the best shortstop are on the Detroit Tigers
and they've been buns.
What is going on?
They've had some good things happening for them.
They just haven't won ball games.
It might be coming together.
The Motor City Kitties,
rounding out the infield coach Trevor Plouf.
James Outman's been a revelation for the tiger.
That's, is that toxic?
No, he really has.
He's been so much better than he was for the twins.
That's not what the stats said.
778 OPS.
That's good.
That's good.
Revelation.
At third base.
At third base this year.
Jose Ramirez got the nod in April.
I believe him and Josh Young might have went down to a judge vote.
Miguel Vargas for those Chicago white socks won it through May.
and Trev, I believe this turned into a two-horse race
because Okamoto is flirting, young, Paredes,
Junior Camerro and Miguel Vargas.
Again, you get two different brands.
Caminero has obviously gone insane with the Homer swing,
and his whole offensive profile is a 294 batting average.
Obviously defensively, he lacks a little bit there.
Miguel Vargas has kind of the all-around, some steals as well.
Trev, you're my AL third baseman.
What do you see?
Look, Junior Caramero's offense tops Miguel Vargas's offense.
There's no doubt about it.
Pretty much in every single category.
He's got them in homers.
Here's a thing.
The production-wise, which I like at a third base,
Miguel Vargas and him are actually tied with runs driven in.
The slash line isn't particularly close.
939 for Camerro, 853 for Vars.
It is, to me, a defensive game.
Junior Cameronero, one of the worst defenders at third base, negative 11 outs above average.
Miguel Vargas, above average, not of Bobby Witt's ilk or anything like that.
And he has been moving around a little bit.
But you factor that in, and then you get 11 swipes to two-cut stealings to no swipes and two-cuttealings for Junior Camerner.
I ended up going with a more well-rounded ball player here in Miguel Vargas.
And let me, I guess I want you to call me out on this,
because I also went Miguel Vargas, offense, defense speed.
Like I think the all around won him over for you and myself.
For Comanaro, I guess I docked him for this,
and I don't know if this should be right.
Because he's so hot right now, like the last eight games,
he's hit eight homers, or excuse me,
the last seven games, he's hit eight homers, a 1.9 OPS,
which is Looney Tunes.
I mean, absolutely.
That means you're on second base every time you come to the plate.
It's crazy.
I guess in a way, it didn't take away points, but it was like, okay, so a week ago,
you and Miguel Vargas were the exact same hitter.
Oh, a flash forward a week, and by the way, the raise went six and one.
So I guess I wasn't knocking him, but it's like it hasn't been steady.
Like the offensive profile.
He's been pretty good all year.
He's just really on a heater right now.
He's really on a...
Yeah, I guess I'm sorry, Ray's fans.
That whole speech was bad.
I...
It was a tough decision.
I think we both just went with the more well-rounded baseball player.
All teams in first place in their division.
I mean, let's go.
How about that?
Hey, congrats to Miguel Vargas.
It feels like Camerro is coming,
but Miguel Vargas has been there all year.
Congratulations.
Also a great story.
Sad boy to happy...
You know I love that.
We love Sad Boy to Happy Boy here.
Should make those shirts.
That leaves the outfield, the DH, and the starting picture.
Picture? Okay, Jake.
In the outfield, previously, this got a little messy.
It was Judge and Trout the first two months.
And then Buck Daddy in April, Cody Bellinger took that spot the next month.
a spoiler for D.H.
It's Yordon Alvarez and kind of a non-compete.
Arguably.
I think Joe Ryan's so far up top.
Yeah, after the pitch challenge from Altova.
Dahl and Rob texting about that in live time.
That's messed up.
I mean, it's just honest work.
It's just the boys watching the game knowing how to pull your threat a little bit.
Yeah, Grand Slam, too.
Outfield, walk me through, coach.
Well, I think the guy who's been on each time, Aaron Judge, he hasn't played.
He cannot be on this list for me.
I didn't have him.
Okay.
So for center field, it's been Mike Trout, Mike Trout.
I ended up going with Byron Buxton as my center fielder.
Not that it really matters because I also have Mike Trout in the outfield here.
So I don't know how you want to do that.
I think Byron Buckson has been the better center fielder through J.
June so I wanted to give him that like you know you get the center field not because I think that is
important so I went bucks in with my center field then I went trout uh and then looking around at
the rest of the guy I mean bucksin's been incredible 25 homers um just he just doesn't get caught
like he does not get caught stealing like he may not swipe as many bags as he used to but when
he goes he's safe it's crazy he's just he's been everything for the twins we'll see
him in Philadelphia.
And then Trout on the IL right now,
but has still done enough, I think, for me to hold his spot throughout this.
Then after that, it was like, do you go a Sedane Raphael?
And what he does out there defensively.
Randy Orozarena, been on a heater.
The offensive stats look great for him.
19 swipes for Randy.
In the end, I feel like Cody Bellinger deserves to be there.
I know he's taken, the month hasn't been great,
but overall defensively, all around.
ball player, Cody Ballinger, remains on this list, in my opinion.
As we've kind of already told the people, yeah, we've landed in the same spot.
That last outfield vote was brutal.
And yeah, it's the talking baseball proceeds with the outfield that we start with the center
fielder, which is a little tricky.
It had been trout.
I give Buxton the nod as well, because I think between injury and Buxton's play,
he has been the best center fielder.
I was shocked that Trout's counting stats are still there.
As far as home runs, his runs, as walks, like he's still leading or ahead of everyone.
And a lot of the stats, which Judge can't say at this point.
Ficking Cody Bellinger last 12 games really is going to hurt our case here.
Sure.
But, you know, all of the final outfielder have a case against them.
And it's a little shocker.
It didn't go to the judge.
But like, Raphaelah, who you're right.
I mean, war-wise and some of the steals,
but he's obviously a very different player than Cody Bellinger.
You mentioned Randy.
Jack Caglione pops up on this list.
And you're like, all right, I don't know.
I've seen him go nuts.
Do I want that?
Cody Bellinger, I think, a little bit having the throne
because he was on the team last month.
He does play the best left field in baseball
at a very difficult left field, a big boy left field,
while having a very skilled offensive profile
that I think you and I are thinking maybe we should have had shame
or this could have came down to a split vote,
which it could have.
I don't think it needed to.
I think, yep, belly limped in.
This whole Yankees team limped in to end the month of June.
But it'll be Buxton, it'll be Trout,
it'll be Cody Bellinger with Yordon Alvarez as the D.H.
Who are our util guys, coach?
Or a fan vote, excuse me.
So I put Junior Camerro in mine.
I also have Kevin McGonagall and I went Ben Rice.
And I'm open for discussion if you like it.
The first two are locks for me.
I probably have too much Yankee salt right now to be addressing Ben Rice.
Yandi Diaz hit in 334.
Holy smokes.
Who is Yondi Diaz?
He's 3, 4, 5 in it.
He just wasn't in discussion because of what you.
Yordon's doing, he's three, four, sixing it.
I mean, again, this might have the salt of a, ah, if you look at war, I would put Yondi in over
Ben Rice.
Okay.
So that's Yandi Diaz, so we're going to split the Tampa vote.
Yandi Diaz, junior Camerro, and Kevin McGonagall for the fan vote this month, which leaves
the starting pitcher, which, by the way, last night's game made things a lot tight.
You and I had a chance to change our vote from Cam Schlitler.
I think the numbers are still there with the lowest ERA,
with the most innings pitch between C. Seas, Messick, Rasmussen.
Ranger Suarez on the list, by the way.
Sneaky has been a fantastic free agent signing.
All the numbers jumped up last night.
I still think it's kind of a consensus that Cam Schlittler has been the best.
Drew Rasmussen is right, right there, right there.
But Campsula has been just consistently good.
Yeah, the start last night, no point.
He said a couple in a row, right?
Did the Red Sox get him as well?
He did.
They're all unearned because the Yankees' defense was horrific.
And he mid-in-air as well.
Yes, you know, a double play ball goes through Razor.
It was, it was fair and not fair, mostly fair.
I have
Schlittler, yes.
The quality starts
tied with Resbius.
The ERA is better.
The innings pitch more.
The whip,
very similar,
although Respeason has been that.
It's usually my stats that I go to.
0.87 for him,
0.96 for camp.
If you have under a one,
I'm very much into you.
The strikeouts go Cam's way.
And they both don't walk people.
So got to love that.
They don't give up homers either.
I went Schlitler.
And a close one.
Congrats to Cam Schlittler.
Again, there's my Yankee energy is linking through this, which it shouldn't.
He's still the favor for the Cy Young.
He's been great.
Basically one and a half blips to get him to this point.
Yeah, shout out to Rasmussen.
Parker Messick, not getting talked about enough for how good he has truly been this year.
That rounds it out, people.
I think we've, Judge Jimmy has the spark that has been ignited in the,
the All-JM show.
Your catchers, Al-L, Langelliers and Hunter Goodman.
Look at that.
How's your pop?
Or no, it was not Langalears.
It's Dylan Dingler.
That's okay.
The graphics still beautiful.
Dingler and Goodman.
Still, the pop stays pop.
At first base, Kurtz, common Nick and Matt Olson, a couple celebs in this show's history.
Zeke Duran, one of the more.
controversial things we've seen.
J.J. Weatherholt in the NL.
Bobby Wood Jr. and Otto Lopez,
Miguel Vargas, and Max Muncie.
How about that?
A couple Dodgers legends.
Buxton and PCA in center field.
America.
Fourth of July.
Corbyn, Carolyn Mike Trout.
America.
Fourth of July.
Cody Bellinger and James Wood.
America.
Fourth of July.
Jordan Alvarez and Shohey Otani.
congratulations
at two of the best players in the world
and then on the bump
Cam Schlittler and Christopher Sanchez
with the fan vote in the ale of
Caminero McGonagall Yandi Diaz
and then Schwarber Freeman and Harper
America
in that national league
although Freddy's got the whole Canadian thing
going too
Yeah
Treve your final thoughts
I think we did
a really really good job
Only a few.
I mean, there's one, the Mizorowski versus Sanchez thing.
I'm still thinking about that.
I'm okay.
I'll get over it.
But other than that, I think we did a good job.
Perusing the numbers and coming up with this beautiful All-JM team.
Thank you.
Thank you to everyone.
Rob Seraco, Dalton Feeley, Judge Jom, and all of the people that tune in,
enjoy your 4th of July.
Have fun.
Be safe.
Safe.
My Chris Rose?
Jake some.
Take that.
Picture of you and Sophie Cunningham.
What are we doing?
Whoa.
Fan vote.
Yeah.
That's one of those good...
I can't wait to do baseball today.
Chris Rose just put me in a bad position.
Hey!
We play for rings.
Play for rings in the desert.
Barely tell she's taller.
