Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Happy Labor Day people, but it's time to talk some ball because the Astros are here.
Are the Cubs here?
The Central.
Oh, fly me over.
Let's talk ball.
You say Cicucci.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Present to you by Seek, Code Talkin' 10.
Go see your team's September call-ups.
Did you call up some kids?
Did you call up the future?
Did you call up some slap d's?
Either way, go check them out with Seat Geek 10.
Some innings out of the bullpen this time of year.
Seek, Co-Talkin' 10, 10% off.
Whether you've used any of their discounts before,
doesn't matter.
Green means good in the app, red means bad.
We're going to talk about that in a little bit.
Make sure you guys download the Seek app.
And go watch some ball.
Because it's Labor Day, Trevor.
It's September.
Yeah.
How are you doing?
You recovered, bro?
Big Friday.
Big Friday night.
A little top gun, 215.
Dude, that's foreshadowing, baby.
You just crushed it right there.
I can't wait for people to get to the end of the yet now.
Nice.
Don't you dare fast forward.
Can't.
Listen to this whole dang thing.
I'm doing good, though, man.
There's a lot of good ball.
I was excited on Friday because we had a bunch of these series going on.
I don't know if they held up to it
like good teams kind of did the good teams thing
but there's some stuff I want to talk about
I can't wait to show you one video during this episode
which is going to be fun
to answer your question
am I recovered for my Friday night
yes
health is wealth I'm back I'm doing this thing now Jake
I saw it on
well I don't think it was on Instagram
it was on some social media platform
4-21 method
4-1 method
4 workout days
2 up or 2 low
2 cardio days
1 mobility day
starting that today
Wow
If you guys want to join me
Yeah
And a fitness quest
Summer bodies are made in the winter
And fall
Let me know
Okay
I'm big boy
How was tennis
Reach out to Trev
Yeah
Went to the U.S. Open Saturday night
It was a good
time. The whole honey deuce thing is like a whole deal. Um, 23 bucks. Okay. Okay. Uh, honey deuce.
What's in that? Okay. $100 for four drinks. Um, I think it's like lemonade, uh, vodka. And I think it's a,
one of those like bottles that you see like in your mom's liquor cabinet that you're like,
what is it? It's like jam board or something like that. And you're like, okay. Okay. Cool.
bottle that's booze.
Like, who used to drink this?
Your mom had her own liquor cabinet.
Don't worry about that.
Don't worry about that.
It's a nice little wet bar.
Oh, God.
That was good.
So, went to a Yankees game for the first time in a whale,
went with Joe's Mcfly,
saw kind of Johnboy media adjacent,
Katie Wu, briefly after the game.
Talked, about some Cardinals and Yankees' disappointment.
So, that was, you ask her about that?
Pool, rooftop pool?
That came up briefly.
We'll see what we can line up next year for you and me out there.
Shout out Katie Wu.
And she, you know, I was trying to get some dirt on the Cardinals, and she's like, no, cards are great.
Like Kyle Gibson's the best ever.
I was like, I know that, Katie Wu.
We know.
We started that narrative.
So, yeah, it was a big sports weekend.
It's a big Labor Day.
and I'm excited to talk some ball with you, Trev,
because I think I'm going to keep hammering the drum
that the Astros are not only all the way back,
but maybe more than all the way back
after what they did to the Royals this weekend.
The Brewers and the Guardians
don't care about your flyover state narratives.
The Phil's put in some work this weekend
that might have secured
secured the rest of their destination.
And there's a young kid who pitched for the Angels.
I don't know if we'll talk about that.
But we're going to talk about a lot more.
Let's do some AL.
It's Labor Day.
This country was built on the American League.
And man, the Houston Astros, bro.
Four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals.
And it started out with that first game.
It was the Vinnie Pasquentino up the line,
seventh inning.
ball that got away in a tie game, and now Vinnie Pasquentino's out with the thumb.
They lose that first game.
It was Lucas Ersig's first blown save with the team.
And then the Astros walk it off the next night, Altovae with the RBI double.
Basically, if you're an Astros pitcher, you're going to throw half a no-hitter.
Erigetti, seven no-hit innings.
Framber Valdez the next night.
Don't look at some of the stuff he was throwing.
Your guy, T2, Trevor May, was breaking it down.
I find myself on his Instagram way too much.
It's him, dogs, and, like, pretty girls.
Anyways, I'm trying to break that algorithm with more Trevor May.
Astros, four-game sweep, man.
They are chasing down the guards for that two-seat in the American League.
Cardinals took two out of three from the Yankees.
Man, Marcus Stroman, nice seven-inning start.
Austin Wells getting in the rookie of the year mix with a two-homer game on Friday night.
Oh, Trev doesn't like that.
But he likes Kyle Gibson going seven innings, one earn run.
And then he likes the Cardinals.
St. Louis Rams, 14, the G-Men 7.
Yanks came back from down 7, 2, only to give up another seven spot.
Jordan Walker, five hits. He's back.
Treves Lucan Baker goes deep fly.
You know he's going to talk about that.
Padres took two out of three from the race,
and that's about right this time of year.
Rays are kind of spiraling a little bit.
Junior Caminero, again, put that little feather in your cap for next year.
He is exciting.
But Mani Machado's been exciting for a decade.
He goes three for five with a homer in that first game.
Man, the freight train David Peralta.
God, he's balling out.
And Dylan Cease, I think most strikeouts in baseball, Padres, they win the bread games.
Trev has a sack fly to show me from those games, excited for that.
Is it time to talk some Tigers baseball?
The Tigers, they take two out of three from the Red Sox.
They lose in 10 in that first game, Duran Rafael in extras.
But then Cy Young winner, Terrick Scoobel, goes eight innings, one-earned run.
and then look at Spencer Torkelson
cranking some extra base hit since he's been called up.
Riley Green goes big fly.
Trev, you know what?
I might have BVD show you a clip.
The boys are young and they're having fun
and they're like hugging after homers.
I don't know.
The vibes are immaculate for a slightly over 500 team.
Them in the Red Sox close in the standings.
Guardians take two out of three in the Pirates from the Pirates,
and that's obvious.
Treves Luis Ortiz
drops it on him in game two.
He tried to tell everyone.
Try to tell you.
He tried to tell everyone.
They win that game three nothing,
but the Guardians win the other two
because Alex Cobb,
he's throwing his half game no hitter out there.
They put up a 10 spot in that first game.
Andres Jimenez,
three for five with a home run.
You know John Kenzi Noel hit a homer to give them the lead.
That's all he does.
And then, hey, you know what?
Josh and Aler's banged up.
I think we're going to call up Kyle Manzardo, former top 50 prospect.
Oh, he's going to hit two home runs.
There's Jimenez again.
Getting hot this time of year.
Sure, that's what Cleveland does.
The Twins, they take two out of three from the Baby Jays.
Go check out who the Blue Jays are rolling out there.
I think it was the most inexperienced Blue Jays team they've ever done by games played,
something crazy like that.
Pablo Lopez is back.
That could be significant come October.
7.2 shuddy little innings consecutive streak.
Shut out.
We love that, Treb.
The middle game, Will Wagner, Nathan Luke,
go check out your Blue Jays right now.
Wow, juicy American League.
Say Lo Perfito.
Joey Lopito, huh?
Don't run the music back, Beavs.
Rangers took two out of three from the A's.
It's that time of year, people.
Met swept the white socks, thank God.
And the Angels took two out of three from the Mariners.
Oh, my God.
Actually, some fun tidbits from those series, so we'll get there.
But first, I want to hear the standings from Trevor Goof.
What's like your favorite accent here?
Say, like, you know, you talked about your pretty girls on the algorithm.
Like, what's your accent that you're into the most?
Oh, God.
Southern?
Why don't you get the standings and then?
I just, when you say, Joey,
Lopifito, all I think about is
what's the movie, is it my cousin Vinny?
Or what's the one with the lawyer?
My cousin Vinny.
I love her accent.
Yeah.
Oh my gosh.
Sorry, when I hear Joey Lopifito's voice,
I hear it with her accent.
Or his name.
Anyways, you want the standings?
Yeah, I watch my cousin Vinny once a year.
And yeah, there's something, I mean,
Joe Pesci is so short and, like,
kind of respected as like a power.
powerful Italian for being so...
I don't know how he...
I don't know how he did that.
Obviously, I know some of the movies he did and stuff,
but, you know, I think Joe Pesci's ringing in at like 5'4?
Joe Pesci height.
Not standing on that bank account.
All right, let me give you the Stanneys.
People are clamoring for them.
It's Labor Day.
Yeah.
and 58, Orioles 79 and 59. The Red Sox, three games over 570 and 67. 67 and 69 for our raise. The bet not looking good for us in the Toronto Young Jays, 67 and 72. In the Central, the Guardians, three and a half game lead over Minnesota and Kansas City. Kansas City, as you know, has been struggling after the sweep. 78 and 59 for the Guardians, 74 and 62 for the twins, 75 and 63 for the Royal.
and those aforementioned tigers.
70 and 68, two games over five,
and then the White Sox doing historic things, 31 and 107.
Imagine showing up to the ballpark.
Imagine that.
It's the big leagues, but it's not because you're playing on the White Sox.
Holy.
Houston, six-game lead over the Seattle Mariners.
They're 75 and 62.
The Mariners, one game over five.
at 69, nice and 68.
Texas Rangers, I said they should be
trading people, they didn't listen to me.
65 and 72, Oakland, 59
and 78, and the Angels,
57 and 80. In the wild card,
Jake, my guy. It's Baltimore.
Right now with the top spot. And then the two
ALE Central teams, my twins,
your Royals,
they have a four and a half game lead over Boston
and only a five game
lead over Detroit.
And I'll briefly
mention the Mariners, five and a half
games back for the wild card, but those are the
standings in the American League.
Is the AL Central the best
division in baseball?
Four teams over five.
Nobody else can say that.
Trevor,
thank you for the standings.
The AL standings were brought to you by
or gain.
Trev kind of just mentioned it.
Are you trying to get flabby?
Are you trying to
gain? I'm just saying,
live.
Oh.
went into our pantry and made me a beautiful protein shake with organ last night.
Yum.
They sent us their brand new 30 gram complete protein shake, and it's awesome.
Man, designed to satisfy your cravings without all the sugar.
Trev, hate sugar.
That's kind of his secret.
If you're one of the people that tune in and you're like,
How did Jake and Trev keep their bodies that way?
It's passing on the sugar.
Get out of here.
For me, happy hour, too.
But Orgaine 30 gram protein shakes.
Available, Costco andorgaine.com.
If you want to get in on the delicious protein pack nutrition today,
head to orgaine.com slash talking.
Code talking 20% off your order.
Once again, that's Orgain.
O-G-A-N dot com, backslash-talking.
20% off.
Kind of on the go.
One of those 30 grams.
They get kids protein shakes on the go.
My kids love those too.
That's like the best thing
because they just drink them
and they think they're like chocolate milk.
But it's a protein shake.
Teddy's going to be a beast.
It's happening.
I know.
Don't get me started on this
because I'm a little upset with him right now.
Oh.
He's going to be a pitcher.
I can tell.
No.
He has the attitude.
That's his person.
No, dude. That's just the new generation, bro.
I mean...
I know it, Jake.
It's just the new generation.
I know it in my heart, dude.
I got...
I'm gonna hate my son.
You know, I don't...
Just kidding.
Trev, you know, I don't say this a lot, but I'm gonna pray for you.
Because I don't...
God.
It would suck if your son became an MLB pitcher.
Trev, great standings.
Great standings.
It starts with the Houston Astros.
and Trev, I guess this is two-sided,
and yet I don't know how much of a deep dive will truly need,
because like I said, with the Astros,
basically half of their six-man rotation
has thrown five innings of no-hit ball this week.
I know, I think you're talking a little you say in a little bit.
I keep shouting them out.
Go check out T2, Trevor May,
on his Instagram was looking at Kukuchi, or excuse me, Framber, it's just a fastball.
It's just Framber's fastball.
And it's one of those, it's one of those dumb baseball reminders, like when we do like,
what's the best pitch in the game?
It's probably a good fastball because it's faster and it's nasty.
I think change up always has an argument because a change off plays off a good fastball.
That's for the off season.
I think the story here continues to be.
I feel like I tried to be the guy putting this on the radar first.
The Astros are full tilt back.
Since the end of April, April 24th,
they have the best record in baseball.
They have a six-man rotation going now.
The back end of the bullpen is good.
The lineup is good.
They're chasing down the Guardians and probably the Orioles or the Yanks
to have a buy in the playoffs,
they're here.
The other side of the coin is,
and for the Kansas City Royals,
who that buffer in the wild card is enough.
But man, when you have
Vinny Pasquantino's a dude,
on the field and off the field,
talk about my cousin Vinny.
Like, he's that guy for the Kansas City Royals
that, hey, you can wash any sweep in baseball.
But, man, that sting of losing your,
star young first baseman and trying to get to the finish line.
I have them circled for this next week because they need the bounce back.
Otherwise, what's everyone going to be talking about?
You know?
I think that's a huge part of it, losing Vinny in that first game.
Obviously, going up against Houston for four is incredibly difficult,
especially the way their stars were throwing.
And the starters got it done.
25 and two-thirds innings pitch for the starters, only one earned run.
it's going to get you a lot of series wins
and, you know, got them to sweep this time.
So, yeah, I do, if we're talking about the Royals,
I do think that is obviously a massive blow.
As you mentioned, on the field,
but I think in the clubhouse as well, like you said,
like that's just, it's a vibe thing right there.
And now some teams kind of thrive off that
and you could look at it that way,
somebody's getting an opportunity.
They made moves, they went and brought Tommy Fam in,
Robert Grossman came in.
Gereal.
They keep doing that, which is awesome to see.
And you know, you can look at it as an opportunity for somebody else.
But Vinny, like, they're so based on clutch hitting and hitting runners in a scoring position.
And he was one of the guys doing that.
That top of the lineup was so massive.
It's wit, Salvi, Vinny.
And then, like, you know, you brought up Melendez had a hot streak lately.
but that top of the lineup, you know, they have to get juice from there.
Yeah, they have to get juice with that.
And then, you know, I think it's so tough because you,
you reel off three out of four from Cleveland.
You get within, you know, like one game.
You get tied for the lead in the A.L. Central,
and then you go ahead and you get swept there.
I mean, I think you shake it off.
You mention the wild card standings and having that buffer.
They got to figure it out.
Like, they could ride Bobbywood Jr.
Offensive.
they could ride that guy.
You got to basically.
And someone's got to step up.
So I think they're okay.
I think running into a buzzsaw in Houston
and having the Vinny thing
kind of looks really bad for the Royals,
but I think you just got to shake this series off big time.
And if you're Houston,
you don't have Kyle Tucker back yet, man.
Like think about that.
You bring in Jason Hayward.
He hits a double in his first at bat, I believe,
an RBI double in game one.
That first game at a four-run bottom of the eighth,
which is like the best feeling ever.
If you're a home team and you take the lead in the bottom of the eighth,
like yes.
Especially if you have a closer,
you know,
Hayter ends up getting his save streak snapped in the second game
because of a pain you air,
but,
um,
when you take the lead in the bottom of it.
That's something that doesn't get talked about enough.
An eighth grade,
an eighth inning home lead is like,
yeah.
All right, so three outs and we win?
Exactly.
And if you're tied, you're like, oh, what's going to happen?
Extra innings, whatever it is.
But when you score that go-ahead run, you're like, okay.
Like, lock it down, bring in the defense, let's go.
Like, I love it.
A little more, it's slightly more demoralizing than the walk-off.
A little bit.
Yeah, because you get the closer entrance coming in and like all that stuff is going on.
The crowd is hyped for like every single out.
Yeah, it's, it's.
it's awesome man
okay
uh is jason hayward a good uni guy
or is he just so like
in good shape that he just looks great yeah he's
yeah i think that's it dude he's
massive in shape yeah yeah he's got
what's in his basement still like a great defender
like an astros level defensive replacement at what age 37
he can like like the wall in right field he just like
Yeah, Jason Hayward will rob a home run this October.
That's great.
He might not play, dude.
Like, Kyle Tucker's going to come back.
If he does, he'll rob a home run and hit two doubles.
I think he's got, like, vinyl records in his basement.
Yeah.
He's just probably so sensual in his basement, like plush rugs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, hey, Royals, sure there's a little bit of fear.
Shake it off, baby. Shake it off.
They're playing Cleveland and Minnesota.
Holy smokes.
It's a Royals week.
Didn't see that on the schedule.
Okay, you better shake it off.
And then my Yankees.
It's go time.
Yeah, I mean, week and a half for your season, Royals, excited to keep up.
And Trev, I do think, hey, maybe this is bullshit.
And maybe Royals fans, I guess Royals fans, every team.
You guys know your team better than us.
That's a huge part of this.
Bringing in all these veterans,
in a week and a half,
it can either seem super desperate,
and it's like, wait, we've got Robbie Grossman,
Yuley Garreal.
I forgot Yuley went there.
Wasn't he in Tripoli with the Braves?
Tommy Fam?
Yeah, he was playing,
he was killing it, minor league.
Oh yeah, we mentioned the Gwinnett Hooters
that I'm so fond of.
Paul DeYoung has been killing it for them.
I could see this going either way,
And I know that's a cop out,
but it's either like,
hey, we brought in these vets for a reason,
and there's a reason they're vets,
and hope,
I'm going to root for the Royals, man,
because I think baseball needs more veterans
and not like, you know,
we've done the whole price tag thing,
and it's like,
am I going to bring in a vet for $1 million,
or am I going to call up two kids for the minimum
and hope one of them will click?
I hope this veteran presence,
Salvi, with all of these guys,
and Bobby Witt chasing the MVP pays off,
because they also didn't play bad this series.
They just almost like Kansas City,
after seeing some of the box scores and stuff,
it's almost like a Houston light.
Like Seth Lugo shoved, Brady Singer shove.
They just got outdone at their own game pretty much.
Yeah.
And I'm very curious how like the Sal Perez, Tommy Fam, Clubhouse,
what's up went?
I don't, I just need to hear about it.
We need to find out.
Oh, we haven't mentioned Yordaun Alvarez,
who 1.2ed in August.
And I think he started September with a two-homer game.
He officially, as of today, is 3-4-5ing it.
He gets a 400 OBP.
Houston's here.
Full tilt.
Yes.
Full send.
Let's see, Trev.
And there's more Houston coming later.
Tune in.
Let's crom pot it real quick.
Give me the cards, Yanks.
In an unexcited way, I don't have too much for you.
Both of these teams are frustrating.
And maybe Cardinals fans are like, you know, Yanks have a great record.
Yanks are first place in the ALEs.
Yankee fans would have easily taken that before the season coming off a year
where they missed the playoffs.
But some of the frustrations are just odd.
And, you know, the big topic, I'm sure you saw because you're Yankees' Twitter
adjacent.
Jason Dominguez, one of their top prospects, got the call last year and then got Tommy John.
He's been killing it in the minors recently.
You know, a lot of Yankee fans thought he would get called up for September call-ups.
He did not.
He still can.
He still can.
And there's some debates around service time.
And if they're trying to keep his rookie stuff intact for next year, so they'd be eligible for the pitch.
which, again, a lot of that conversation for a lot of Yankee fans doesn't feel very Yankee.
And let's see.
Let's see.
But, man, they're just, they're worse against 500 and under 500 teams than they are against
above 500 teams.
There's still some weird stuff in the bullpen.
There's still some holes in this lineup.
There's frustrations defensively.
And Cardinals fans are probably saying, like, the same thing.
Like, everything I just said echoed.
They're just in a very different spot in the standings.
Again, I mean, dude, the Sunday game was one of the ugliest, weirdest baseball games.
You'll see this season.
And it's not because my Yankees lost.
I would have told you that when they came back and made it 7-7.
And they still had ducks on the pond.
Like, it's not about that.
That I don't know, the Yankees, every year they think they can hit a go button.
Like, they've lined up Clark Schmidt and Louise Heel to come back.
in the same series.
And Jason Dominguez, probably coming up that same series.
That they think they can, all right, time.
Let's go full throttle now.
And I get it, man.
162 is a grind.
And you can't let some of the tough losses hurt you as much as it does as a fan.
I get that.
But you also just can't shrug it off and be like, yeah.
So I don't know, man.
I think both these teams are equally frustrating.
We'll see if the Cardinals have a kick in them,
but that's what I have.
Cardinals currently five games back of a wild card spot.
I just watched Luke and Baker's Homer.
He went down and got a Cortez Kerrbalt.
Like that.
Crush his lefties.
Crushes lefties.
I think both fan bases were watching all three of these games
in more of how is my team going to lose this?
game.
Okay.
That probably sounds pathetic for where the Yankees are at, but it's just the honest feeling.
Very strange about the Jason Dominguez thing.
I assume they're going to bring him up.
There's Luke in.
Go down and get it, big boy.
285.
6-4.
What's he putting, I mean, the Yankees famously have one of the better visiting clubhouse
food situations going on there.
some of the best pasta in New York is in that clubhouse.
I've mentioned that many times.
What do you think he's doing?
There's a good pregame meal.
There's a good after the game meal
and there may be something in the middle of us.
My big boy.
Padres Tampa,
I'll take this one.
First two games blowouts on either side essentially.
Third game to me was like the Padres to a T.
Jackson Merrill.
to run Homer.
Padres, they like the
freaking bunt, dude. They do.
They're such a well-rounded offense.
So Mason McCoy, my guy,
the shortstop on
the team full of shortsteps.
America's shortstop, Mason McCoy.
Sack bunts for a pro far
sack fly. And then they take
the lead, Jake,
on a Xander Bogart's
sack fly.
The sack fly.
The sack fly.
Here we go.
I think we're getting it.
Here it comes.
Sandra Bogart's.
Let's go.
Let's get the lead.
Okay.
Top of the ninth.
Who's there?
Jose Siri.
Oh my gosh.
Tyler Wade.
Tyler Wade running.
Oh, no.
Jose.
Mani Machado went first to third.
I get how it happens.
No, you don't.
What happened there?
Show it again, Beavis.
Please, because he got behind.
the ball did everything perfect here and then just absolutely sailed this thing i'm not saying he was
going to throw tyler wade out he's pretty far back there but watch this what happened that's what
happened he's not going to throw tyler weighed out from there so it's frustrating because it man
major league outfielders really shouldn't be missing throws by that far um but you shouldn't you see it
a lot every year and i i i think it's just Jose syria is trying to do some Jose syria has a fantastic
arm. He was never getting Tyler Wade there. Tyler Wade runs really well. That's a ball to deep center.
Yeah. Yeah, you just try to do more than your body can do. You're hoping to find a moment of
brilliance where Jose Siri throws at 105 and it's not happening. So,
I mean, good team, bad team at this point in the season. My raise bet is done.
The race walk 10 batters on Sunday as well.
No thanks.
No, thanks.
Let's see, a little central double dip.
I mean, guards, pirates is a little bit good team, bad team at this point.
Tigers, Red Sox are two teams basically fighting, jockeying each other in the standings to keep wild card hopes alive.
And yeah, I might distract.
I might send BBD on a hunt.
I forget, I think it was Riley Green.
Rees Homer.
You, Trev, you would really like it.
Because Detroit is a bunch of kids.
And they're playing like kids.
They had a hug at home plate.
That wasn't like, you know how teams,
they hit a homer and guys hit home plate
and there's just a little bit of, like,
the man embrace, like, nice home run.
They were like, they were jumping around, like,
they had just called, like they had a sleepover,
and one of them called their crush,
and their crush had just, like, agreed to a date with them.
And they were like, I couldn't, look at this.
Like, the boys are just happy to be playing baseball.
And they're playing winning baseball.
They're above 500.
I don't know if either of these teams,
oh, Torkelson on Rich Hill, that's just, come on.
It would be his daddy.
corked up. I like that.
I don't know. The kids are having a blast,
and I don't know how close it's going to get them.
I mean, they're close, man.
Now, like, do you think they're mad?
They've traded Jack Flaherty away?
But at the same time, couldn't this offensive come around earlier?
Couldn't you have figured it out?
I don't know, man.
In this series, you get Scoobel doing this thing.
I found, by the way, a Scoobel signed a rookie card in my closet yesterday
as I was going through some cards.
That's nice for me.
he's going to win the Sion.
Yeah, I think it is a little bit too late for the Tigers,
but it is nice to see them get this going.
I mean, they took advantage of just a bullpen for the Red Sox has been so bad.
Take advantage of them, game one.
And then, you know, they pitched great.
Talked about scoubs.
In game three, they did it as well.
Get to the bullpen again in game three.
Like, I think both of these teams.
are seeing their season kind of slipping away, which is tough.
I saw something on the Red Sox side.
I didn't know what's going on.
This is a foolish Bailey thing.
Okay.
What's his last name again?
Bailey.
Bailey Freeman.
Like Freddieman.
Yeah.
That's right.
What's that Bailey?
I never know if I love you or just like you a little bit.
He pointed out that Jaron Durant has an 8-8 baseball reference war,
bro. At one time he was leading over Bobby Wood Jr.
Only behind Aaron Judge.
What the freak?
He's having an amazing year.
All-Star Game MVP, obviously tarnished by some bad words on the field.
But it's insane.
He's an electric baseball player, man.
I love center field and third base, anyone that tunes into this show.
And yeah, he plays with his hair on fire.
playing great defense.
He's got nine outs above average of center field.
That's 96 percentile.
The sprint speed is there.
96 percentile.
He's got 32 swipes, 21 homers.
Batting run value.
I mean, baseball savon is kind of just a quick snapshot of how a player season is going.
93rd percentile in the batting run value.
100 percentile in the base running value.
and the 96 percentile in the fielding run value.
You can't get much better than that.
Tigers, I'm going to regret saying this.
Don't get swept by the Padres.
Three games.
They have Oakland and Colorado after.
And, man, maybe I'm getting too into two young players
sharing a hug after a home run.
But go look at that whole...
A little bit.
Trev, your boy, Matt Veerling,
at 28 is...
The old man on the club.
Jake Rogers, sure, Andy Abagnas.
But the day-to-day starting lineup,
Kerry Carpenter's old at 27, and he's bawling out again.
They're so young that I don't,
there's something beautiful to being young and dumb,
and if Kansas City really starts to go through it,
I don't know.
They have Oakland and Colorado after San Diego.
They have the Cy Young winner.
I don't know
I don't know
Jakey analytics saw something on the field that day
Okay I like it
Guard dogs pirates
I'm gonna be honest I have something
Coming on them in a little bit
Did you're anything from your twins
J series that I think the Pablo
consecutive inning street is important
I don't know what else is
Pablo came I mean he's been great
Over the last I don't know how many starts
he's really, really picked it up in a time where they really need it.
They're starting pitching just is kind of in shambles.
We have these young guys.
I mean, Zebby Matthews gives up 10 runs and two innings.
That's not what we need.
Bailey Ober with a nice bounce back start after we think Kansas City
and then whoever was hitting against him in his last start.
I forget who they played.
Felt like they had something on him.
Nice bounce back start here.
It could be just he's just locating middle against those teams.
I haven't found anything.
Sorry Twins fans, I'm trying.
And then it was, I mean, they're about to lose this series, Jake.
And then Royce Lewis clips one.
Three run Homer to give them the lead.
That's it.
I mean, they were about to lose this series.
The twins need their guys back.
They need Carlos back.
They need Byron Bucksen back.
They got to figure out they're starting pitching,
which they're probably not going to
because they just don't have the horses, man.
They didn't make moves.
They didn't make any...
They cut payroll after last year.
the only trade deadline acquisition they made,
they've already shipped out of there.
There's my guy Royce.
Great at bat by Royce right here, by the way.
Fowled a bunch of pitches off,
like very defensive swings until he got that one
a little out in front of it.
But he's just,
you wish you had him on your team.
He's that guy.
He's so good.
So yeah, I mean, they salvage this series
and they're still up in the wild card.
And, you know, Boston is,
kind of helped them in that regard and Kansas City has been struggling so they just have kept pace with
everybody but I don't until something changes crazy like I'm not looking for this team to
make a deep postseason run I don't know how they are unless they get everyone back they got to
get everyone back and people got to go off they're going to have to outslug teams and they can do
that they can do that but everyone needs to be healthy travel I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of super burn
through some of my final thoughts here.
Josh Young, walk off Homer, off of Mason Miller.
Hello.
Did you see where it went?
Hello.
Just right down the right field line.
It's about exactly what you'd expect off a guy throwing a thousand miles an hour.
It counts.
It did count.
Matt, Trave was first to tell you that Sean Mania is kind of like the next Chris sale.
And speaking of Jolly Olive Foolish Bailey video.
and Jesse Winker with a massive series.
And then, hey, man.
You're trying to pull that ball.
And in L.A., they're just putting kids on the field.
Cade and Dana, your youngest Angels pitcher to ever get a win.
We love that.
And Samuel Aldegheri, the first Paisan.
Full blown.
Full tilt.
Is that a thing like only Italians can say or can I say that?
No idea.
I think Paizan is fine.
Paizan's okay?
I think I just said it.
I think some of the other.
There's a couple other ones.
There's a W one.
There's a G one.
I think you're out on that.
I don't know if I know either of those words you just said, but I don't want to know them.
I don't want to know.
Pause.
I think I'm about to put my pants.
Okay.
Is, yeah, here's my thing.
Seattle, like we were starting to believe in you.
I mean, you sweep the Mets, things are looking good,
and then, you know, it's just, no, you're too far back now.
I can't believe in you.
Mickey Monex, shout out, tied the game up,
then walked the game off with the homer.
My fingerprints are all over the angels.
I think that's kind of it, though, Bebes.
Like, Mets, I think that's a talking point.
the Mets are taking care of business when they need to.
They had that crazy 10-game stretch.
Yeah, they went.
Survived that.
What's that?
Survived that.
Did they go 6 and 4 in that?
I think so.
6 and 4 in that.
You needed.
And then you go and sweep the white socks.
You're right there, man.
What are they in the wild card right now?
I'm looking it up.
Haven't done the NL standings yet,
but I'm going to get this little preview right here.
Those are coming.
One game back with the Braves.
Okay.
Sheesh.
They lose.
Well, and all results are coming, but they played the Phillies.
Okay.
It's good stuff, man.
I'm happy for the Mets.
You know, I think they've kind of done it the right way.
Under the radar, made adjustments, brought people in.
I think Steve Cohen's not his gun slinging anymore.
He's trying to do smart baseball.
fall moves now.
Are they going to be in on Soto?
They're going to try to.
And we have to always mention every single episode
because people get mad.
Francisco Lendor MVP talks.
I don't think he's going to win it because
Shohay is going to go 50-50 people.
Like that's just going to happen
and he's going to win the MVP,
but Lendor is having...
They'll appear on some ballots.
Lendora's having a crazy, crazy season.
I'm happy about that.
Really good.
Do we have an ad read I can go before
Jake reads the NL?
Jake has all of them.
Jake has all of them. Why don't you read it, Bebs?
I think Jake's in the bathroom. He's doing a duty, I think.
Is that what he said? I don't know. Bebe's getting the read.
We'll read that, and then as soon as Jake gets back, we'll start with the burn.
Get it going. Keep this show chugging along.
Beavis, go ahead and read that ad read right now.
Oh, no, he left it again.
The NL recap
is brought to you by
Arena Club, Trev.
Oh, this is great, because I was just going through cards.
I went to a card shop yesterday, and I'm in on Arena Club.
What do they got, Bebs?
And for most fans that like collecting cards, the idea of spending $2,000 or more on a Luca, Ellie, Holmes, whatever.
It just isn't happening.
It's a lot of money.
It's a lot of money to drop.
But thanks to Slab packs from arena club.com, now it's possible to score J.
gem mince for a fraction of their retail price.
Every card that I listed was a hit from last week's Arena Club's Slab Pack drop.
Arena Club is the only repack that provides real value, a complete view of all possible
cards, and clear hit rates for each one.
We pulled a number to 20.
Louisa Rise from the pack they sent us.
True story.
I have that in my inventory.
It's my account.
It's under my name.
The Arena Club grading process is.

your National League.
How about the Philadelphia Phillies?
They host the Atlanta Braves.
What would we be saying if this series went a little differently?
What if we said they split two out of four?
We probably wouldn't talk about it as much.
But the Phillies in the final game in 11 innings,
Big Dick Nick, his fourth walkoff of the year,
Castellanos gets it done.
Man, he had a big series.
him and Marsh in that first game.
Dude, this series could have went very differently.
Philadelphia had been shut out, I think, for 16 innings or something like that.
Marsh breaks through, then Castellanos breaks through.
There's like a mini-Trey Turner documentary out.
Has anyone watched that yet about the standing Ovate, the turnaround?
Really?
I don't know.
I haven't dove into it.
I'm sure our fans have.
Let us know, did you like it?
Braves won one game.
Rinaldo Lopez shoved
Sean Murphy and Orlando R.C.
had a two-homer game.
But the Phillies, three out of four big.
That pushes the Braves down
and maybe gets them kind of back on the right track
finishing out this September.
The D-Backs and Dodgers are finishing off a four-game series today.
The Dodgers took the first two.
An electric first game.
Shohei Otani.
Okay, hey, Shohei Otani, Shohei Otani, times 43 for stolen bases and home runs.
No players ever done that. Reminder, he pitches. Reminder, he's really fast.
The snakes try to come back. Eugenio Suarez brings them within one, but it's not enough as they win that one.
Dodgers run it back. Freddy Otani Mookie, back to back to back. Not bad. Tommy Edmund. Welcome to the Dodgers.
Here's a game winner.
Uh, snakes, though, they pounce back 14 to 3.
Uh, they put up a crooked number that they're going to try to salvage the series today, uh,
or the Dodgers will take three out of four.
Speaking of three out of four, that's what the Brewers do to the Reds, and that's obvious.
Um, man, D.L. Hall, remember?
He's the guy they got for Corbyn Burns.
There's some prospects.
Seven-in-in' shutout. Uh, okay.
Okay.
Um, the only thing.
the game the Reds win. It took them 11
innings. Your guy
Jonathan Windia and Santiago
Espinall. Again, it's done
at the end there. But man, it felt
like everyone in
Milwaukee is going. Garrett Mitchell,
Reese Hoskins, William Contreras,
Sal Freelich. People are
saying Willie Adomas is the best
three-point shooter since Steph Curry.
Another three-run Homer.
I read that on a Brewer's tweet. I thought
it was weird. Cubs!
They sweep the nets. My
and Trebs Nats, you'll find out in a little bit.
Asking, you shall receive.
I ask the Cubbies to go against this week's schedule,
and they have nine and one in their last 10.
Ian Hap looking for a bottle of wine.
Danesby Swanson in a lot of these box scores.
Nico Horner.
And the Cubbies, dude,
like they have entered a very real part of the conversation
finishing off this season.
The Orioles took two out of three from the Rockies, and that's obvious.
You know, Big Albert Suarez shoved.
Jackson Holiday, first pitch from his dad.
He played in Colorado.
Do you know that?
Whole big deal.
Rockies, Drew Romo, Nolan Jones.
No, I'm good.
Zach Eflin back, though, seven innings one, earned run,
and Gunner Henderson, the two for four.
And your Giants, drop two out of three to the Marlins.
it's getting late early.
Shout out to Griffin Conine,
Mr. Marlin's son with the homer.
Connor Norby.
I don't know about his parents,
but I bet they're delightful.
You didn't watch.
That's what happened in the National League.
Great job, pop.
I will be so obnoxious.
Like, if I was Matt Holiday,
I'd be all over my son's game.
I used to play two.
Yeah, but your son's a pitcher, so you're not.
Look at my muscles.
You're going to be embarrassed.
You're going to be in the bleachers.
I guess Matt Holiday so big.
I got to get it on his workout.
He'll be in the bleachers with a fake mustache on.
His pitcher's okay, huh?
He's going to be a starting pitcher.
I just know it.
Do you want the standings, Pop?
Every day.
Nico Horner, barely know her.
How can we start out of east, Jake?
For the Philadelphia Phillies.
Now, does that say, seven-game lead over the Atlanta Braves?
They are 81 and 56.
The Braves, 74, and 63.
the Mets only one game back at 73 and 64.
My Nats, 61 and 76, and then Jake's Marlins, 51 and 86.
In the Central, the Milwaukee Brewers have a nine-game lead.
They're 80 and 57.
I believe they're one of three teams with 80 wins.
They're all a national league.
Nine game lead over the Cubs, 71 and 66 for them.
Cardinal, 69, nice, and 68.
The Reds, 65 and 73, and 73.
out west the Dodgers now
I think they got down to like two and a half
maybe it was three game lead over the D-backs
they now have five game lead over them and the Padres
82 and 55 for the Dodgers
the Diamondback 77 and 60 the Padres 78 and 61
Giants two games under five at 68 and 70
in the Rockies 51 and 87 in the wild card
it is those NL West teams though Jake they have a three game
lead over the Atlanta Braves.
We have the third spot right now.
But as I mentioned, the Mets only one game behind them.
Steve Cohen is saying, I'm watching the game.
He's rooting for the Phillies.
And the Phillies took care of business.
Now, Mets one game back, and I think really the only other team that we'll talk about
will give St. Louis a mention at five games back.
But those Cuppies and the soft schedule, which we'll probably get into here,
three games back.
Plenty of baseball left.
I can't believe it.
And those are the standings in the National League.
Thank you, Trevor.
Yeah, reshout out to the Mets for that White Sox sweep.
I know that's what everyone's doing to a historically bad team,
but they did it.
So Mets, one game back, rooting for the Phillies.
For chaos.
Routing for chaos.
And there's a couple teams that the chaos meter is climbing.
Let's do Braves Phillies first.
Like I said, Trev, this could have been a very different story.
It's Braves 4-0 into the sixth inning.
And then Marsh hits the three-run homer.
BDN, Castellanos hits a two-run homer,
Philly's bullpen,
Kirkering, Strom Hoffman.
That's been a big part of their story.
story.
They pushed Chris Sanchez for the start.
Like this, you know, this series meant a little more.
This was top two teams, two teams that have known they're going to lock horns this year.
Braves answer in that second game, Arcea has a big day at the office.
Man, some of the Harper stuff has entered a weird territory.
But then the Phillies take care of business.
The next two, again, we see that bullpen kick in after Zach Wheeler.
and then we see the Phillies in Castellanos again with the walkoff.
Yeah, I guess what?
Power is power.
Power is we've been saying it.
Okay, like this team is too good to struggle offensively the way they have.
I think Bryce had some decent at bats here.
He had kind of like a little bloop single down the left field line.
I believe that was in Thursday's game.
You're hoping that gets him going a little bit.
my big takeaway here
was
Emundo Sosa
in the depth that the Phillies have
Alec Bone gets hurt
in the first game something going on with his hand
I guess he's going to be okay
it looked like a hamate bone thing but they had x-rays
and everything is negative
he comes in makes a couple of great
defensive plays comes in on a bunt
he's got one like diving down the line where he saved a run
and then in game three I mean it's the
run and the RBI double.
It's basically all the runs.
It was all the runs, wasn't it?
The depth there is something that, you know,
you need to have when you go on these runs
and you're going to deal with injuries.
I thought it was really cool of him to come in,
especially in this type of series,
where, you know, it's all on the table.
You come in early for an injured bone
and you freaking plant your flag a little bit, man.
That was awesome to see.
Also in that game three,
Wheeler obviously nasty
Out Dules Freed
Who freed looked pretty dang good himself
Basically only got
Edmundo Sosa got him
Did he have two RBSs or three
I think he only had two
Yeah, Bryson Stott also right?
Yeah
I don't know
No, it was Trey Turner, that's right
Trey Turner hits the home run
Nice looking swing right there
And then the Harris catch
In that game was awesome to see
And you're Austin Hayes
And you hit this ball
And you're heck yeah man
was that him?
I don't freaking know.
I'm blanking on it right now.
What's going on over there?
You haven't seen the Harris catch.
Bebers, maybe you pull it up,
but it was something like you just don't see.
Travis Janikowski made that catch in Chicago not too long ago.
This one might have matched it at least,
maybe even overtaken it because of the stakes at hand right there.
I mean, it was something to see.
And Castiano's coming up big.
Here it is.
That was Austin Hayes.
Seven game lead.
In the division.
I mean, basically throwing pitches in the bullpen.
That's insane.
Crazy catch.
Go check out the YouTube.
Subscribe.
Philly's seven-game lead in the division.
It's Jover.
You know, we even daydreamed some, you know, well, if the Braves and you put a little heat on them and it turned, you know, five games turns to four games, it's over.
The Philadelphia Phillies are going to win the NL East.
You know, we kind of, we dreamt it up before the season.
Would it ever happen?
Are the Braves just built different for the regular season?
And the Phillies have put it together this year.
Austin Nola, tied for the most quality starts.
Yep.
Zach Wheeler, being Zach Wheeler, yep.
And yeah, man, that back end of the bullpen, that,
God, this whole team, it's built.
It is built for this.
And everyone, like we've talked about a lot,
a lot of these NL teams this October
are going to be left with a sour feeling in their mouth
because there's five teams that expect to win the World Series,
four teams?
I did see, I was watching the game,
and all of a sudden I see Whitmerfield messing with Bryce Harper
and flick his hat off.
And I was like, oh, my gosh.
That's pretty like,
I know Witt's been around for a while.
I know they were teammates, all these things.
But that's a level that you better really know a guy to flip his head off.
And then, as I was doing research, I saw that Bryce did it to him first.
Ah, see?
There you go.
Good for Witt.
Good for Witt.
Just two guys. Good for Witt.
Ficking hats.
Wow.
Wow.
Like, that's a good one.
but
imagine that just turned into a full brawl
it might have
full brawl
anybody else
I don't know man
yeah there you go
wow
just two guys
just the fellas man
that's ball
they're both really rich
one's much more rich
one's real real rich
what's in Bryce's basement
slot machines he's a Vegas guy
I think Bryce is
I think Bryce and LeBron have nice here's
Welcome to the first Jake
I think Bryce and LeBron are both like
Just kind of boys
Like I think it's pop a shot
I think there's like a laser tag
Like I think it's just like
Some sort of game
Yes like I think
Like the best ping pong table you could have
Like we're
every video game system
you think he was like here is
three million dollars
person
can you just make me a sick basement
right
um I think he was involved in the planning
I think Bryce is very detail oriented
you see his outfits I don't
I see I'm opposite I think he's
so you don't think he does his outfits
does he have good outfits
yes
extremely detail oriented
I don't know if his outfits are good
just because he wears cowboy boots
all right I'm over you
What's up with that?
Is Las Vegas a cowboy town?
Maybe if that makes sense.
Dodgers, snakes.
Yes.
Man.
Reach around series.
Okay.
A lot of offense.
You're going to need eight runs to win.
And that wasn't enough for the snakes in game one as they lose 10 to 9.
Again, I said it as a joke as like a fake AI algorithm thing.
But show hey, show hey, show hey, I don't know.
No, he's incredible.
I was watching that one live with a little barbecue on Friday,
watching that one live.
We're talking about Shohei.
And it's honestly like,
he's the only person in the big leagues that like everybody knows.
Even all the ladies are like,
oh, what's up with Showhead?
He's really good, right?
I'm like, it's really good.
Hits a homer on cue was awesome to see.
That game was interesting, though,
because Arizona, I mean, they're up five.
it was 10 to 5 going into the 9th,
and the Dodgers put Anthony Band out there,
and I think he had pitched like three straight games.
He gives up four runs and only has one out,
and they let him finish the game.
Like, that's kind of a ballsy play there by Dave Roberts.
So usually at that point, you get four runs,
you go one run lead,
maybe you get somebody going.
He ends up finishing the game.
Okay.
Game two, back to back to back, as you mentioned.
The first time that's ever happened,
Dodger history,
which obviously is a long history.
I've been on that train.
I thought it was going to be San Diego.
Was it Machado?
Don't.
Don't.
Don't.
And now there's like,
there's a couple teams that could do it now,
bro.
The Yankees have it.
With Soto,
Judge, and Stanton.
That's nice.
Dodgers do it.
Anyways,
that was a back and forth game.
And then Tom Yedman
kind of just sticks the bat out
on a Justin Martinez.
splitter and find some grass for the two RBI in that um i believe that was the top of the ninth
in game two to put them ahead and then the d-backs just kind of ran it in that last game uh in the
bottom of the third the top of the third i think it was show hey mookie and freddie freeman
all struck out like just three up three down three strikeouts and then in the bottom of the third
mookie freddie and tiosker all got taken out they're keeping show hey in these games i think
they want to like that he wants 50-50 I don't think he wants to be taken out but at the bottom
of the third all the starters are out of this game.
A lot off day. Why not? It kind of sucks man if you go to like a if you're like a Dodger fan
you go to the game and all of a sudden those guys are out but don't give up eight runs in the first
two endings I guess. Good point. Fair. Uh, snakes split it. More on some snakes later in
the show. Really? I don't think I knew that. Um,
Brewers take 3 out of 4 from the Reds.
I, you can hear it in my voice.
I don't know.
The Brewer's offense is going nuts again.
I feel bad.
I feel like I kind of got off the Brewers wagon,
looking at the other pretty lights in the National League.
And I think the numbers in August came in.
I think they had the second best offense in baseball in August,
the Brewers.
You know, we normally get caught in whoever they're tapping into in the bullpen
or even the rotation now.
But they take three out of four from the Reds
and it's a little bit good team, bad team,
unfortunately, this time of year.
I think we're seeing some of the best center field play
we've seen in quite some time.
This one, Blake Perkins in this series,
robs the Homer.
We saw the Michael Harris play.
Kyle Isbell of the freaking Kansas City Royals.
Let me get my hands on Kyle Isbell.
Okay.
Let me get my hands on him offence.
I'm going to turn him into a star.
obviously Kevin Kiermeier still kind of doing his thing.
We saw the Michael Harris catch.
I might have just said that twice.
But yeah, this is good team, bad team.
We talk about the Brewers and the kind of the length they have now
on their line up to different ways they can score runs.
Jackson Trio beans, like, that's been the biggest thing for them, I think.
You can talk about Willie Domas and the three-run homers, which are amazing,
but having that extra bat.
What's the OPS at right now for Trio?
Is it in the nines?
Keep putting me on the spot
I'm getting it up
In the nines
Yeah
Trio's a 7777 on the year
He but since he's come back
He's been crushing as of late
In the second half, yes
Yeah
I think that's why I saw that
In the second half he's
In the second half
38 games Jackson Trio's 335
375-9-51
Yum
It's a star
He's a star
20 years old still
What else we got in the National League? Cubs
Yeah, I think that's the last thing.
Brewer's a little more coming up.
The Chicago Cubs,
you know, it was an 18-game stretch against losing teams.
They're still in it, and they sweep this time.
They're 9 and 1 in their last 10.
For any of the teams, we're talking about being kind of alive.
The Cubs are kind of alive.
and we talked about this before the show.
No, the Cubs are alive a lot.
They're not kind of alive.
They're not kind of alive.
They have Pittsburgh coming up.
And then it's Yankees, Dodgers,
but then it's more tough teams the rest of the way that they're 71 and 66.
There's a lot of numbers that like the Cubbies.
There's a lot of guys in their lineup who are balling out right now
that they have entered the chat of this season.
the offense has been incredible.
99 runs in their last 10 games
can you do the math per game, Jake?
9.9 runs per game.
Yeah.
Yep.
I knew you could do it.
I knew you could do it.
I mean, that's been massive for them.
I think we're schedule pod.
Like you mentioned,
go look at the schedule the rest of the way.
It would shock me to see them not within striking distance
at the end of September.
It really would.
Is the offense going to put up
nine runs per game? No. Obviously they're not.
But I think
they have the team
and the juice now, the feeling
like, hey, we're in it to go
and again, like it's going to be
Braves, Mets,
or Cubs. And the Cubs, by
far have the most favorable schedule.
They've got to make up some games,
but I think they're going to be right in the thick of this thing.
I think they're going to be looking at that series
between the Mets and the Braves at the end
and being like, okay, you guys beat up on each other
and let's go win some games.
Yeah, it's, I mean, they've shown,
and they're feeling good that they're,
at this point in the year,
they're going to beat the bad teams.
They've showed that for the past two weeks.
Their season's going to come down to that Yankees, Dodgers,
six games.
Three or three and better,
and like the Cubs will be at the finish line,
which is insane.
For a team I was tough on this year, and I feel a little bit bad because I'm a schedule guy.
So when I did see that part of the schedule, I left that part of my heart open to it.
And yeah, the whole lineup is bringing it right now.
How about Porter Hodge, your guy at the back end?
Okay.
Okay.
I'd like to see you get your cans on Kyle Isbell.
I think we got to keep it going.
It's that time of the year.
Orioles, you did enough.
Great, happy for you.
Giants, you did not, not happy for you.
Which brings us to
Standout performance.
Who stood out for you, Treb?
Man, a lot of people.
I mentioned my guy, Mickey Moniac,
when you were in the bathroom a little bit there.
Could have went that way.
I could have went Luke and Baker if I wanted to,
but I didn't, Jake.
I went with a guy who we kind of talked
about on the way through.
You say Kukuchi.
He's been absolutely dominant since going over to the Astros.
On Saturday, he goes seven innings pitch, five hits, one earned run.
And he's, he's, I don't get it.
They don't need another starting pitcher, though now we talked about this, a six-man
rotation.
And he's been absolutely lights out.
We talked about like, what's he changed?
He's basically like stop throwing his curveball since he's been over there.
and really going four-seam or slider for the most part.
But that fastball is fastballing right now, man.
It is nasty.
He's getting a lot of swings and misses on that.
Talk about the upshute that he has.
And for a lefty to have that velo is really kind of unique,
especially a lefty starter.
So he's providing on that.
So basically the difference between like his pitches,
his pitch mix.
I guess isn't that much.
I thought it was a little bit more.
He's throwing the four scene fastball,
a little bit more with the Houston National.
48.6%,
45 with Toronto.
He's throwing the slider.
I guess he's just added the changeup,
even though I don't know.
I don't think he's,
I guess he hasn't made that much
of a pitch change.
I thought he did.
But now that I'm looking at the numbers
and the percentage,
a couple games he's leaned
a little bit more heavily
on the fast ball slide.
and a couple of games he's throwing the curb ball more.
So I think it's kind of between the curveball and the changeup,
depending on the lineup that he's facing and how he's feeling with that.
He's just going.
I don't know what it is.
I thought I had something.
Guess I didn't.
But he's been nasty for the Astros when they really don't need him.
That is an embarrassment of riches.
So shout out you say Kukuchi.
He's been great.
It was one of those armed talent times organization.
You're just like, okay, like I'd,
I don't think I'm going to be shocked if Kukuchi goes off for Houston.
And yeah, I'm interested to see how things start lining up
playoff rotation-wise for them.
He could potentially be a bullpen guy, but I don't...
I need somebody to tell me what the heck is going on because I'm looking.
I mean, the numbers are almost identical.
The change-up has been better with the Astros.
So 188 batting average against 254 with the Blue Jays and the same.
same exact pitch, but everything other than that is kind of the same. Slider's been a little bit
better. Herball, I guess, has been a little bit better, but I don't know, man. They must have made
an adjustment on the change of. That's what it looks like. He's got a 35.7K percentage with the
Astros with that pitch and only a 14% with the Blue Jays. Maybe he changed some of these. Maybe he's
got that seam shifted away. Kick change. One good bullpen. One good bullpen.
I'm going to keep it lefty, and I'm glad you're highlighting Houston some more.
I want to highlight Milwaukee some more, because I mentioned that offense to you.
Now fifth and runs, third and on base percentage.
And we've kind of always known about the bullpen.
It's Devin Williams, and they just tap into guys down there, Jared Koenig, Brian Hudson this season.
D.L. Hall, currently not listed in their rotation.
but threw 83 pitches against the Cincinnati Reds,
and is easily his best outing of the year.
Seven innings pitched, five strikeouts, only four hits.
It looked like the fastball ticked up a little bit.
And it was just a reminder to me,
he was the big piece in the Corbyn Burns trade.
That was the highlight.
People were saying, don't be shocked if D.L. Hall's an All-Star this year.
He's dealt with some injuries this season.
By the way, Joey Ortiz, also in that trade, has been fantastic for them.
But D.L. Hall, and for me, it's just a reminder as we head towards this postseason stretch.
And I think more teams have this than we lead on.
Or maybe it's the appeal of the Phillies.
Like, we know when the Phillies get to the finish line that it's like,
all right, Nola, Wheeler, you know who's going to be in their lineup.
You know who's going to be in the back end of their bullpen.
I think a lot more teams, it's kind of.
of like, who gets to the finish line?
Like, Freddie Peralta for the Brewers, he's going to be out there.
He's, he's their guy, he's a stud, he's been great of late too.
The rest of their rotation, like, it's a fight.
Like, if Savali keeps twirling it well, he'll get a postseason start.
They traded for Montas.
Your guy, Colin Rye, you know, he's had a brewer's season.
Tobias Myers has been talked about a lot in this podcast.
Whoever pitches the best going into the finish line for these Brewers
is going to get big time postseason innings
on a team with real world series aspirations.
And I don't know if it's D.L. Hall.
But if he goes out and shoves again his next time out there,
he'll be in the conversation for it.
And I don't know, man.
I just wanted to make sure we talked a little more brewers
who called up a guy with the first name Brewer, Brewer Hicken.
Love that.
Yeah.
So they've got everything going on right now.
So D.L. Hall, let's see.
He could get a Brewers postseason start.
He could be in the bullpen.
He could not be on the roster.
Welcome to October.
Love that.
Who else could we have mentioned?
Oh, my God, Trev.
Will Wagner.
I talked about Yordaun.
Terrick Scouble has been getting
screwed over. Pablo Lopez,
scoreless. Kyle Gibson always.
I mean, that fuck. We do a quick check in on Brent Rooker's stats.
We're not mentioning him ever
because he plays on the A's.
Although they've been like a pretty dang good team as of late.
These are guys that had two homer days
over the weekend.
Brent Rooker, 295, 372-579
for the 951 on the year. 33 home runs.
92 runs driven in.
For the 4.8 B-war.
Get 40.
He's making the league minimum.
I would love to know the trade offers.
I would love to know the trade offers.
The guy's been in the league since 2020,
but he's still making the league minimum?
I guess he just doesn't have the service time.
Okay.
Guys that hit two homers,
Arcia, Brent Rooker, Austin Wells, Joe Adele,
Mickey Moniac, including a walk-off,
Yordon hit two homers,
Kyle Manzardo hit two homers.
So there was a lot of guys that could have been standout.
But maybe they'll be Corona Extra and Fuego players.
It's the best part of our show.
Maybe it's the best part of your Labor Day.
Have a couple Corona extras.
It pairs perfectly with baseball.
Whether you're in the park or watching from home,
go grab yourself some coronas.
get yours at order corona.com.
21 plus relax responsibly,
Corona extra beer.
I cannot wait to see who Trev's Corona Extra
standout player is.
Dark Nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
We just talked about this guy for the series.
Brent Rooker, he went 8 for 13.
A double.
Two homers, four runs driven in for the 1.7.
Willie Adamas, six,
18. Four of those hits, Jake,
were for home runs, eight runs driven in,
six runs scored. He homered
in all four games of the series, and has six
homers in his last eight games. He has an
MLB leading. 12.
Three run, Jimmy Jacks
this season. There is
nothing better than a three-run homer. I think
a three-run homer is better than a Grand Slam. How
silly is that? That's wrong.
I'd be wrong, but
I don't know why. I just think it's better.
Mickey Moniac,
my guy, fingerprints all over
this Enfuego sheet.
Four for 11. Jake, three of them
were for homers. Four runs driven in.
He recorded his first career walkoff homer and
first career multi-homber game on Saturday night.
He's batted.
359 with six homers, five doubles, and 13
runs driven in in 19 August
games. Okay, sweet. Swinging
first overall pick, people forget that
of the Philadelphia Phillies.
For the week,
Dansby's Sponson,
man, I feel like we don't talk about this guy ever.
He had a tough
few months to get the year gone.
And maybe because he's so handsome.
We're like, ooh, you know, get away from me.
We like the uglies.
We like the Luke and Baker's.
Hey.
Hey.
Hey.
You said Luke and Baker was my doppelganger.
Just in the spirit.
The spirit of Luke and Baker.
Eight for 23 in the week for Dansby.
Two doubles, two homers, 11 runs driven in.
Okay, Dansby.
How about Jazz Chisholm?
Back with the Yanks.
Third baseman, Jazz Chis, and I always like saying that.
Nine for 21, two doubles, two homers, two runs driven,
and seven runs scored, though.
He became one of five players with 20 homers and 30 stolen bases on the season,
joining an electric group.
Oh my gosh, Jess.
Jaron, Ellie De La Cruz, Shohei Otani, and Jose Ramirez.
Wow.
That is the group that you want to be in.
I'm going to skip the next guys.
I want to talk about him a little bit more.
Jaron Duran, we talked about him going off.
18 for 48 in these two weeks, seven doubles,
five-harm runs, eight runs driven in,
12 runs scored.
Ryan Kirkring,
your favorite name in the big leagues besides
what's the one I'm thinking?
What are you thinking of?
Huh?
I forget, it's going to come back to me.
Don't worry about it. He had six games started.
Not six games. He's six games
not started.
One-on-0, one holds six and a third to Ings pitch,
two hits, no earned runs for the zero ERA.
Luis Ortiz
of the Pittsburgh Pirates
I tried to tell you man
I saw him pitch back
in back way back when
he was like an opener
he was still in the bullpen at this time
and I was like why isn't this guy a starter
he's got starter stuff he's nasty
like what is going on
and then on July 7th
they turned him into a starter
and he has a 3-1
ERA in that time
so I think the pirates have found
something. He just needs to be around the zone a little bit more.
But he's been really, really good, Jake.
In the week, two games started, 12 innings pitched,
five hits, no earned runs, 10Ks.
He pitched six innings of one hit ball on Saturday
to earn his first win since July 20th.
Now it's 15 consecutive scoreless innings.
So try to tell you.
It's good. It's not just Paul Skeens out there
and Mitch Keller.
It's also Louis Ortiz.
And now, Jake,
the thing everyone's been waiting for.
Corona Extra player of the app
and I think you're gonna like, I think he's kind of your
doppelganger too, Corbyn Carroll.
I don't think he'll like
hearing that. You got big broad
shoulders, does he?
In the two weeks, Jake, he went
15 for 47, 6
homers, 14 runs driven
in, also 13 runs scored.
He has 17 homers
since July 7 that's tied for the
most in the National League over that span.
His 667
slugging percentage since that date
is the highest in the National League.
Over that time period,
he's reached base in 40 straight starts
setting a new single season streak
for Debeck's franchise history.
And did you see the lead off inside
the park homer on Saturday?
14.34 around the bases.
Like, Kiermire tries to make the play.
He goes up.
The ball hits off the wall.
And from the get-go,
you see Corbyn Carroll is going to
like make it all the way around the bases.
He's so fast.
The turns are so.
precise. 14.32 seconds around the bases. It's the seventh fastest home-to-home time since
stat-cast tracking began in 2015. I'd love to see a list. I'd love to see a list. Who's faster?
Bobby Witt. I think Caswell, maybe I think of the Cruz. Your guy PCA just did it.
But that wasn't inside the park homer, I don't think. I think it was an error, wasn't it?
Oh, I thought it was. I'll double check. I guess it's just around the basis. Yeah,
Home to home. Doesn't matter. You're right.
Okay.
We'll love to see that list.
Anyways, Corbyn Carroll, your Corona Extra player of the app.
Broad shoulders.
Power.
Ball jumps off the bat.
He's got a big head, too.
He's kind of everything.
He's kind of everything.
Trev, great job.
Corbyn. Have a big day today. Have a big labor day.
Something of note.
I'm an analytics guy.
Dansby Swanson since August 10th, an 800 OPS.
Why August 10th, Trev?
Someone won a gold medal?
His wife, Mallory, won your America a gold medal.
That's right.
Have the game winning goal, right?
Yeah.
So yeah, that, uh, yeah.
Great job.
Magnifico.
We follow up the best segment of the show with the worst segment of the show.
Who's my name rival with Orion Kirkering?
We'll see if Trevor remembers.
The IL.
It stinks.
It stinks, but it keeps us updated in a way.
Vinnie Pasquintino.
Hate that.
We've hated that.
A brutal loss for Kansas City.
I hope we get a cool story about it come October.
Clayton Kirshaw left after one inning.
I think a bone spur in the foot, something to watch.
Joe Kelly, you know he's pitching in the sixth inning of a playoff game,
so we've got to get him back.
And then some odds and ends.
Mani Margo, everyone knows him as Coach Ball Games' favorite player to the aisle.
Returning from the aisle, it's bigger than the other list.
We love that.
Cutch, he's back, sure.
Tristan back out a while for San Francisco.
that. Alex Cobb for Cleveland.
Zach Eflin, seven innings
for your
Baltimore Orioles. Rake Freley,
Brooks Lee, for them
Minnesota twins, huh?
Zach Lattel for Tampa,
Wandi Peralta for those
Padres. Anthony Rizzo
for the Yankees, Trev. How about that?
That's interesting.
Jordan Wicks for
Los Cubs. Michael Cianney
for St. Louis.
Some more body is in than out.
We like that, especially come September.
You know, Brooks Lee coming back has pushed Royce Lewis to second base,
which is interesting.
I don't love it, to be honest.
Definitely don't love it.
You got to do what they got to do.
Brooks Lee's nasty at third base.
Second base.
Yeah, trust me, I've said on the broadcast,
I don't know about second base.
Royce is big.
Royce is big.
I like him better in the outfield, but I don't think that worked.
I think they tried that already.
I don't know, man.
I thought they were going to keep Royce at third,
put Brooks at second,
but they love Brooksley at their base, man.
Shocked.
It's not the other way around.
Let's start everyone's holiday.
Brought to you by the Draft King's sports book.

Whatever. What do you got?
My award is called the Plant Your Flag slash Where Your Hat Award.
Plant Your Flag slash.
I don't know how this one's going to go. I'm going to keep it short because it's politics, kind of.
Like, everyone knows the red hat. Red Hat, that's a Trump thing.
You see a red hat on somebody? You're like, okay, I think that's a Make America grade again.
You see the red you associate it.
That is, I don't, you can, you can love it, you can hate it.
Right.
But you got to say, wow, like I get, like, I think genius marketing,
because they've just captured the red hat game.
Like, right?
Yes.
They've captured the red hat game.
If you see a red hat with somewhat writing on it or you can't see,
it's kind of the assumption.
Like, sorry Cincinnati Reds fans, but yeah.
So that's, that's the Republican side now,
Democratic side now with the candidates being Kamala Harris and Tim Walls
they created a hat of their own which I think was also genius because they went with
the real tree camo so like I think they kind of stole that from the right a little bit
which is I think I like that that's good and we all know where this is going so keep
going they have their hat real tree camo Democratic side red hat Republican side
I, though, Jake,
am going third-party candidate.
I am planting my flag,
and I am claiming my color hat.
I love a white hat.
We're both wearing a white hat.
So I think I'm going to corner the white hat market.
So whenever you think of a white hat now,
this is what I want you to think of.
2025 Washington Nationals.
Crazy.
Boom.
There's my flag.
2025 Washington Nationals.
I was trying to tell you guys.
early on and TPP's
they said look this team's not gonna
they're not gonna make the playoffs this year
they're not but they do have some fun players
and it's gonna be fun to watch them
and I think I've been right about that
they made it close I believe they got over 500
briefly or maybe right at 500
they've fallen back a little bit
but they have
basically brought up their farm system
and let these kids play they still have a few left
like they still have
Brady House to call up
which will be interesting
but they have brought up
James Wood who's 21 years old
CJ Abrams is the veteran on the team
he's 23 years old
you can talk about Luis Garcia Jr
who's had a great year
he's 24 years old
I don't know about Kbert
Kbert Ruiz
I thought he was going to be the guy
they sent him over from the dog
He's had a really tough year offensive.
But he's only 25 years old, so things can turn around a little bit there.
They just have a very young roster.
And they just brought up Dylan Cruz, who's also 22 and through six games, has an 829 OPS.
He's got a couple homers.
He looks like he's going to be part of the future.
The average age of this team, they're the fourth youngest team in baseball.
Can you guess the teams?
fourth youngest
Yeah
I would go
Marlins
No
Okay
Athletics
A's are one of them
Who was I just
Yelling and Raven about
Before that they're
A goddamn bunch of kids out there
Having fun
The Tigers
They're right behind the nationals
It goes Brewers
Which is scary
Number two
And Guardians number one
That's very scary
For everybody
You
but the nationals are fourth
in age
a bunch of young kids man
and I just think
they have these guys there
and none of them are making any money
they're all making minimum
salary so what does that tell you
if they think these guys can get pushed a little bit
I think the nationals can make a play in free agency
there's talks about
Juan Soto
I'm just saying I know it's a Scott Boris
thing leveraging the two New York
teams, fine, but wouldn't that be awesome if all of a sudden they went out and got
Juan Soto back?
I mean, you don't like that.
I think national fans would like that.
There's also some pitching that can be had.
So I like the roster as is already.
There's a bunch of young guys, exciting guys coming up.
I think it's going to be a lot of fun to watch them in 2025.
White Hat, Washington Nationals, I think they're going to go spend in free agency too.
I think they're going to be a dark horse team in the off season.
Let's go get it done.
I'm planting my flag, 2025, Washington Nationals, White Hats Only, baby.
That's definitely something.
They are going to make a splash of off season.
They remind me of the Mariners a couple years ago of like, whoa, have they opened up a window
a little more balance than the Mariners?
And Treve, I know something you want to highlight in this award, although, you know, you got there in your way.
Darren Baker, a guy that's a guy that's a guy that's a highlight.
one of the all-time baseball highlights,
gets his own baseball highlight,
gets a hit in his first at bat,
I believe first pitch, Dusty Baker's son,
famously being a bat boy too young
and had to get saved at home plate.
Otherwise, he was,
we're going to have a low light
that baseball would never show.
And anytime you can get dusty,
Dusty's in the front row, you know, showing Dusty Baker-esque emotion,
aka as cool as the other side of the pillow.
Shout out to Stu Scott.
Yeah, no, the Nats are in next year.
Patrick Corbyn coming off the books,
so you can almost like put that money right back in there.
They've got young pitching.
They've got young hitting.
It's going to be fun to see what they're doing next year.
Next year.
I made sure to look up white hat to make sure it wasn't like something bad already.
It symbolizes the good guy.
Look at us.
Trev, great award.
I'm going to give out the Best Damn Sports Show Period Award.
As you know, our guy Chris Rose, you know, the revolutionary show, Best Damn Sports Show, period.
At Fanatics Fest, they did a thing on stage.
I mean, Chris Rose, C.C. Sabathia, Michael Irvin, Kevin, Sally, Stephen A. Smith, Jalen Rose.
Like, the boys were bopping. It used to be on every, I think it was Monday through Friday, every day talking sports.
Tom Arnold, a little bit borderline controversial.
And they did a 20 or 25-year reunion at Fanatics Fest, which was a good time.
It was cool to see Chris Rose running the show up there.
Chris Rose will be doing the best damn sports show today.
Not the best damn sports show.
Joey Chestnut versus Kobayashi.
Who do you think would be getting involved in that?
It's Chris Rose.
It's Chris Rose.
I cannot wait to check that out.
I think Netflix live crazy that they're in the live sports game now
and that that's sports.
Couldn't be more happier when I found
Chris Rose was getting involved in that.
I cannot wait to see him goof and gaff on there,
the original We Got Ice, Chris Rose.
Chris Rose is Cleveland Sweet Prince.
And the Guardians, man,
I just don't know.
I feel like I've been rude to the Central this year
with just like a non-belief.
And, man, okay,
It's time for September call-ups.
Kyle Manzardo gets the call.
Two homers.
You know, kind of that speech I was given about D.L. Hall.
You could see Kyle Manzardo in a playoff game,
or he might not make the roster.
I don't know if Cleveland knows.
And I don't know if they care.
That's like just not how they operate.
If you're playing well, we'll find a spot for you.
Obviously, Jose Ramirez is Jose Ramirez.
Josh Naylor has put together a very big season.
Kwan Jimenez with a couple big swings over the weekend.
Treve, I've just been laughing out loud at their pitching staff
because I'm looking at box scores and here's Alex Cobb
twirling the pill.
Matthew Boyd giving them good outings.
In Emmanuel Class A, if Tarek Scouble slips up,
if Terrick Scuba
somehow, some way
throws up
a five inning, five earned,
and then a four inning seven earned,
I'm not saying that's going to happen.
I think it's his Cy Young to win.
But my God, get ready for the baseball show debates
if Emmanuel Class A should win the Cy Young this year
if Scoobel slips up.
And I just don't know.
I'm shell-shocked after coming and checking out
the sheets from over the weekend
that the guard dogs are added again
with that best bullpen.
Some of the other stats aren't there.
They've got a big roadie coming up.
It's Kansas City, the Dodgers,
but then the White Sox.
And they've just found a way all year
that they are now back three and a half games up
on the Twins and the Royals.
And I don't know.
They're Cleveland's best damn sports show.
And they've done it all.
season. So I just, I couldn't believe going through the weekend and seeing some of the names
that bawled out for them. And that's just what the guardians are up to now. And like you just
mentioned, Trev, top three youngest roster in the game, same with the Brewers.
The youngest roster in the game. It's insane. It's insane. Yeah. They kind of, like,
they have guys that do certain things right, you know, all the Tampa Bay raise. They always said,
hey, you're there for what you do, just do you?
Like a guy like Rokio. He's not hitting, but statistically he's been one of the better
defenders than all the baseball. And, you know, they haven't, overall, the offense hasn't
performed. I believe they're 18th or something like that in OPS. But then you put
runners in scoring position and they're the fifth best team with a 798 OPS.
Josh Naylor had a little scare. I think he's back. They're going to rely heavily on those
guys, you know, that those Jose Ramirez and Josh Stanley. I mean, Stephen Kwan has been in kind of like a
nose dive as of late, but they're going to have to rely on those guys to get the job done.
And then obviously, we talk a lot about the bullpen, but you mentioned some of the starters
are getting the job done. Yeah. Like at least enough. Ben lively has been that guy for them this
year. And Boyd, it's like, you know, seeing him do what he's done has been incredible.
They're letting the guys, they're putting him in advantageous positions, which I think is important.
as a for a manager to do.
If you tell people that, hey, like,
we're not going to be,
you're not going to be the best at everything, dude.
Like, I wish somebody told me that.
Nice.
I really wish somebody told me when I was a player,
hey, you don't need to be this.
Like, this is what you do well,
so go do that well.
Like, we've constructed a roster where,
where you're deficient,
somebody else is good.
So just go be you.
I think that's what they're doing there.
Guys feel comfortable in their own skin.
So, you know, Rokio, he has a,
whatever,
his OPSs. Obviously they want him to be a league average hitter, but he understands, hey,
let me go play some defense and we'll win games because of that. I think it takes a little bit
of pressure off for everybody, and to have a roster that young, you need to take the pressure
off then. I'm kind of seeing that. So the Guardians are just one of those teams, man, where they're
going to find ways to win and they have their own formula, and it's worked for them this year.
It's going to be fun to see who voter puts out there in some of their playoffs.
lineup. They've got depth, which we've talked about a lot. It can be a beautiful thing,
or it can be an ugly conversation point if you're losing. But they've been winning all year,
all year. And they got that scare by the Kansas City Royals last week. They win that final game,
and now they're back to three and a half in playing the Royals again this week. So,
Trevor Plouffe, a man of labor, white hats, I guess.
I made that one out, but I don't know, guys.
Thank you to everyone.
I don't ever hat you want.
Enjoy the day, enjoy the week.
Enjoy baseball.
Enjoy baseball.
I like Beaver's hat.
I can see right now, little billies, okay.
That's some good times there.
I'd be next year.
Black hats?
What?
White hats next year, black hats the year after that.
Bad guy.
It's a Philly's in the field situation.
I'll be the bad guy.
