Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
It's always been a West Coast pod, but my God, what's going on in the N-O-West compared are the Braves, Mets?
Feels like a lot of teams are dying on me.
Dog days.
Not us.
Not us.
And I get it.
Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball, presenting you by Seek Code Talking 10, 10% off any tickets.
What are you want to watch the rocks beat up on the Braves?
My Rocks, the Winger Pole.
Seat Geek, scale of 1 to 10, green means good, red means bad,
get yourself some good tickets, go see a show.
If you're in Nashville, go see some music.
I did some of that.
It's a great weekend, danced my little legs off in that beautiful city.
Trev, and for me, I'm interested to see your thoughts,
and maybe that'll change in a couple hours
as you're winding up down in that Wabo Cabo.
I don't know.
I have my annual fantasy football golf trip.
It's a great trip for me every year.
Dude, it feels like it went from middle of summer
to like end of summer this weekend.
How are you doing, Popo?
What?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Only three days passed.
Only three days past.
Yeah.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
So, okay.
I feel like we're still kind of in summer here.
I mean, we're still in August.
We're still doing that.
End of summer.
When does that come?
I don't think it ends until September pop.
It's usually Labor Day, but I don't know.
I just felt something in the air.
What happened to you over there in Nashville?
Okay.
Yeah.
I'm still down here in Kabul where time is still the same.
I didn't experience much simulation stuff over the weekend,
but I did experience a lot of good ball
that I can't wait to talk to you about
and I do have to start this off with a compliment
because I did talking baseball
as of the host on Friday with Jolly Olive
and I had to do the burn
and you know I'm not good with the burn
number one that's your thing
right you have you know
that's this is what you do
and I also can't hear the music
so yeah and pop I had one of those times
where like I just kept going
and music it was embarrassing
it's hey
It ain't easy being cheesy, Treve.
I don't know what to tell you.
You, Jake Burger and the Burns, man.
I'll say Jake Berger right now.
I've been craving a burgy for a while.
That might be, oh, God, that's a heavy lunch.
Maybe tonight.
Trev, it's time to hop in.
Astros Mariners.
I mentioned NL West, and everyone is cooking out there.
The A.L. West,
The Mariners, that pitching we know about it and the Houston Astros, they're both coming.
I can't defend my East Coast right now.
Although the Yanks and Birds are still doing their thing, it's time to talk baseball.
That's it.
And it starts out in the American League this Monday.
And we're starting out in beautiful Fenway Pack to Sox, kid.
Oh, no.
They ran into the Houston Astros at the wrong time.
And that Red Sox bullpen, they got roughed up a little bit,
especially in that first game late Altovae with the two-run homer that sparked the offense.
His 224th, fourth all time in Astros history.
Wow.
The next day, the Astros went up early and Spencer,
and again, he mowed them down 13.
strikeouts my god
his third consecutive quality start you might hear more about him later
and then the boys bopped on Sunday
Bregman hits his furthest homer of his career
over the monster I know a third baseman like that
Astros they've beat up on Boston recently
they are at their season best seven games over 500
uh oh the bad man is back
but they have a dancing partner out west right now
because the Seattle Mariners, they sweep the New York Mets, Mets, offense, or Mariners pitching?
Bryce Miller, Lowe Gill, and Luis Castillo, man.
They gave the Mets some West Coast nightmares.
In that first game, hey, Trev, you talk about it.
You need contributions from everyone.
Ryan Bliss and Leo Revis up the middle.
Absolutely.
BPD's got the scouting report on them.
How is your trade deadline?
Justin Turner.
And Randy in that second game, okay?
And then this is a dumper.
Cal Raleigh, he hits two homers.
Our guy, Jorge Polanco, with a three-hit day.
And the Mariners are back in business out in the West Coast.
Trev, I'll let Utah.
Twins guards, the battle for the Centrallet.
Your twins have closed the gap.
And after winning the first two games, they dropped the final two.
You're telling me that they are hunting for pitching, that some guys are getting tired this time of year.
You're my central, an analyst.
I say that right.
Twins were at one and a half game back at one point.
Good on Cleveland to bounce back.
Oh, that's the talking the baseball today bowl, huh?
Wow.
Cannot wait to tune into that today.
Orioles!
They take two out of three from the Tampa Bay raise.
Zach Eflin Revenge game.
seven innings, shut piece.
Corbin Burns. He does Corbyn's things.
But, man, Jackson Holiday has become one of the stories out there.
He homered in three consecutive games, just what they needed.
You know, Albert Suarez had a big boy start, because that's all he knows.
But the race come back in that one for the two-one dub Caballero with the big pinch hit double.
The Rangers and the Yankees teed it up for three, including a double-header day on Saturday.
They split that one, Rodan, five shuddy.
Austin Wells, man, go check out what he's been doing behind the plate for those Yankees.
And you know what Judge and Soto are doing?
They combined for three homers in the last game.
Big Jeege and Carlos Stanton with the home run after Judge got intentionally walked.
That's going to be important for the Yanks going forward.
Ugly late there.
Yanks survived.
Royals and Cardinals, a little barbecue bowl.
They split two.
Oh, why not?
Wilson Contreras with the two homer game.
All J.M.
We'll evaluate that at the end of the month.
And then Michael Waka, Waka, Waka, Bobby with Salvy.
Sure.
Kyle Isbell, like his glove, like his stick,
with a three-hit day in that final game.
White Sox and Cubbies, they split two.
Excuse me, the cubby swept.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry, fam. The Cubbies are hot, by the way. Are they back in the mix?
Trevor Plouf seems to think so. They knocked around Garrett Crochet.
Been a post-tuff deadline for my guy. Where's that extension? That's a little rude.
And then the Cubs get it done. Mikhelemaia and E. Soch Peretti's with the RBI as they win that game three to one.
And then the series everyone's talking about, the Oakland A's and the Toronto Blue Jays. That rhymes.
The A's take two out of three.
My God, it's getting dark in Toronto.
Ask Drake about it.
That's what happened in the American League.
Unbelievable.
You're the best.
I will catch everybody up on the Twins Guardians Bowl.
That's all we're going to talk about today.
I know that's what the people want.
So we'll give it to the people.
Jake, do you want, my friend, the American League standings?
That's what you just talked about, right?
Yeah.
I'm excited to see where you go.
I'm excited to see where you go.
I'm going to go American League, I think.
You're going to do it.
Yeah.
We're going to start out.
out east.
Where the Yankees and the Orioles share an identical record.
70 and 49.
My goodness.
Here we go at the top of the division.
And I am reading the wild card standings.
Let me get back.
I'm on it today, people.
70 and 49 for the Orioles and the Yankees.
7 and a half games up on those Boston Red Sox who are 61 and 55.
Tampa still hovering around that 500 mark,
59 and 58. They got to get it going for the boys. That was our double lock of the year. Let's go.
And then Toronto, you mentioned it's dark for Drake. Isn't he putting out new music on some weird Instagram page? 54 and 64 for the Blue Jays. In the Central, you mentioned the twins got within one and a half, but the guards took the last two games of that series. They're three and a half games up. They're 69 and 49. Nice. Twins, 65 and 52. And the Royals are a half game behind that. It's six.
65 and 53.
Then it's the Tigers and the White Sox at the bottom of the division.
56 and 63 for the Tigers.
Jake, just guess how many games the White Sox have lost so far.
It's a sorrow than eight?
91.
They're 28 and 91.
And then out west.
We have two teams tied above or on top of the standings.
Excuse me.
The Astros and Mariners.
Astros 62 and 55.
Mariner 63 and 56.
So the Ashes have it by the percentage point.
But as I like to point out,
the Mariners right now have the tiebreaker
between those two teams.
The Rangers are sitting at 55 and 63.
Seven and a half games out.
Angels 52 and 66.
A is 50 and 69.
And then we'll get to the wild card here.
Currently right now,
the Minnesota Twins would have this,
I guess the second wild card,
depending on what happens with Baltimore.
and the Yankees.
They have whatever team is behind,
we'll have the first wild card,
then it's the Twins,
then it's the Royals,
and sitting right behind,
either the Mariners or Houston
would be two and a half games out.
And then it's the Red Sox at three.
And then after that, Jake,
it's five and a half for the race,
nine and a half for the Tigers.
I think we're seeing some distance
being put in between the teams here
in the American League wild card race.
Although two ties at the top of the division
kind of make it a little weird,
right now.
And those are the standings in the American League.
Thank you, Trevor Plouf, the best standings man.
Who has the season series between the Orioles and the Yanks?
Oh, good question.
We'll get...
Orioles.
Is it done?
I think if the Yankees win out, they can do it.
Yeah, that's right.
I think the Yankees, those first two series early on,
they got the business from them.
I want to go, yes, go west, young man.
Yeah, what was that? Go yes?
I don't know.
A lot of tequila sodas.
Trev, Seattle and Houston.
They kind of take out the East Coast equivalence of each other,
the Boston Red Sox and the Punchy Mets this year.
Both have inserted themselves into the mix.
Mets still in better standings currently than the Red Sox.
Red Sox are starting to get in that nervous area for Wild Card contention.
I think three games out.
But the story for me is Houston is playing their best ball of the season.
The lineup is continuing to put up big boy numbers without Kyle Tucker still.
We'll see the next update.
My guy Spencer Erigati has been pitching his gourd off.
And then in Seattle, I mean, it's a – I mean, talk about pitching your gourd off.
And it's what this team is built on.
and the numbers from the weekend are insane.
I think it was a 033 ERA if you're into that kind of thing.
Meanwhile, while getting the offensive contributions they needed throughout
with, you know, a 12 spot in that last game.
And Cal Raleigh is going to have another 30 homer season for a catcher.
Julio comes off the aisle.
Bad game, but you'd like to think he can contribute.
So I'll let you pick, H-Town, Funky Town, or Seattle?
I mean, both these teams are kind of coming alive at the exact same, or right time, I guess.
Like Seattle, obviously we know the pitching, the offense has been good or late.
You mentioned Julio's coming back.
Like, this is, this is crunch time for them.
Only really one of these teams is going to make the playoffs.
I think that's kind of overlooked in this whole situation, unless something drastic happens in the wild card,
maybe both these teams go off.
But as we stand right now, it's whoever wins this division.
I mentioned that Houston will have to sweep the three games at the end of the year to get the tiebreaker between the two teams.
I kind of love what Seattle's doing right now.
I think you bring in Randy, you bring in Turner.
Turner hasn't been great for them since coming over.
I believe that OPS is in the sevens, but he contributes in the series here.
Randy, obviously, is a stud.
He's got a 921 OPS since coming over.
He's driven in five, you know, five runs hit the homer.
So they have that offense coming along.
You get Julio back who was on fire before he got hurt.
And this could be kind of who cares what the offense look like.
It's now you're in this position, you're in first place, and how do you go from there?
We know who has been much better in the second half.
So he can go ahead and carry your team offensively along with like you mentioned.
Big Dumber.
People get so mad.
I think Big Dumper is almost like the equivalent of Will Smith in our all-JM team.
He just hasn't won a lot of a.
awards for us, but he continuously puts up these massive Homer seasons. And I believe he's,
I mean, Beeps, check the defensive metrics for Cal Raleigh. Very curious. He's great defensively.
Yeah. Like, how has he not been more on our all-JM radar? And maybe I'm misthinking this or
misremembering, but I feel like he's, he's getting, you know, Sal Perez or badly rushment out of there.
He's had a huge second half.
I mean, his first half, his numbers landed at 2.16, a 299 on base, a 734 OPS because he hits with Pop.
In the second half, he currently has an 852 OPS.
So his numbers were doing a funny kind of like series by series.
If he had a big series, he'd kind of be in the sevens, and you'd be like, Cal Raleigh, like, he's playing with Pop.
If he had a bad series, he'd hop back in the sixes and you'd be like, I need a little more out of that from you, Cal.
especially if the Mariners are going to do what they want this year.
Second half, he's really locked into gear.
He's now had an OPS in the nines the last two months.
So, yeah, that changes your standing.
I think the question between...
What's that?
His walks are up, like big time in the second half as well,
which I think is helping boost everything too.
I guess the question is, and we've asked this before,
but it's getting down to crunch time.
you talk Seattle's pitching, but Houston, their starters have been great, especially
of Araggetty, you know, continues the way he's pitching right now.
I would still would lean Seattle in the starting pitching, you know, overall, but Houston's
been great.
Lean.
Who's lean?
You can't lean.
I mean, it's still no contest.
As of late, Houston's been great.
Their starting pitching has been great.
Yes.
I'll still give it to Seattle,
but then you go to offenses,
and I think you have to,
I think you have to choose Houston there.
Taylor Scott.
Bregman's been going.
Taylor Scott had a huge strikeout of Devers
with the bases loaded that ended up setting the tone
for that series a little bit.
Yeah, I mean, hey,
kind of closing the loop on Seattle.
Justin Turner,
you mentioned his OPS has been in the sevens.
Seattle is begging for that.
Like they've been looking for that.
And yeah, I think I undersold the Randy trade a little bit on here
and Wake and Jake just for how good he has been.
And I know teams don't like to talk about this around the trade deadline,
but Jorge Polanco had been missing for them for chunks of this season.
So if Polanco can come in and be a contributor,
if Cal Raleigh is going to pick it up in the second half,
Randy Turner, second half, Julio,
you're talking about a new Seattle Mariners office.
which would be massive for them, which is kind of what you're saying about Houston starting
pitching. I know, you know, Ronel Blanco has been kind of their stable guy this year, but we've
gone through the Hunter Brown stuff. The Arrogati numbers are getting crazy. You're going to hear
more about him later. Yeah, I mean, Yordon is one of the freak shows of the game, and he's been
showing that lately. And when you're, whoever it is on the other nights, Yiner Diaz, Breggman,
Jeremy Penao with a couple three hit days at the office that I think his numbers,
he's been above average hitting wise this year.
Yeah, I mean, 709 OPS, 101 OPS plus that Houston's peaking at the right time.
It feels like the Mariners have tapped into something new that the Houston,
Seattle, race for first.
I think one of those teams can still get a wild card.
And the East, East Coast, West Coast.
That's always what the show has been built on.
on the Mariners Astros race for first place out west
and the Yankees Orioles race for first place out east.
Couple really fun ones with some like new age rivalry energies going on.
I'm going to give you a stat right now, okay?
I got it off.
I got it off X.
It's for my guy Tony Adams.
He's the one that logged all of the bangs for Jose Altuvae
and he brought all of that to let.
I follow him.
He's an Astros guy, okay?
on May 8th the Astros were 12 and 24 since then
they're 50 and 31 that's the best record of Major League Baseball and during that span
Jake they've allowed the fewest runs of any team
good that's what I'm saying man the back end's been good I think
a hater 25 consecutive saves like here we go
like this is the Astros team that everyone expected
and this drama of Seattle Houston it's been kind of
Roaring over the last few years has been really fun to watch
and we're going to get another episode of it in 2024, Jake.
Man, Houston's got Tampa in the White Sox,
two teams that haven't been known for their hitting coming up.
In Seattle, where are they going?
Detroit and Pittsburgh.
So it's a roadie, but those teams have been on the struggle bus
as of late or this season.
Let's hop out east
My yanks got their business done
It was scary at the end
My God
The bullpen
Made what should have been a fun Sunday
Soto Judge Stanton Bowl
Into a scary
And if you saw the last play
If you think pressure isn't real
Which if you follow sports, you know it is
Watch Glaver Torres fielding
The Final Ground Ball
that would have been an interesting talking yanks and talking baseball open
and then yeah the the Orioles get it done over the race so I'll pair these two together again
for obvious reasons and maybe if it's finishing out west the Texas Rangers I think they
you know at the all-star break we did our trade deadline episode and we were like hey you know
the Rangers, you know, we kind of had them all selling, and then they went on to,
they had like an one eight out of ten, we're around it, we're not selling.
They've now lost each of their last five series.
They haven't won back-to-back games since July 25th, seven and a half out of the West,
10 out of the wild card.
It's kind of good night in Texas.
I think so
I said it on this show before
I think it was okay
the reason for them not selling
you want to give your boys a chance to get it going
you won the World Series
you owe it to your fans I'm okay with them
making that decision
even though in hindsight now it looks like obviously
you could have sold some pieces and replenished
this and that but as a fan
you're okay with it I think
yeah
yeah
hey
World World Series
is the goal. They did that last year,
so that's probably why this isn't stinging
as much. But yeah,
I don't know. It's kind of one of those
things that was lurking throughout this year
that we were wondering, you know,
we'll talk about my diamondbacks
out in the National League and what they've kicked
into. I think we all kind of
expected Texas to do that and we'd be doing
episodes and we'd be like, the offense kicked
in and here's some pitching
and it just hasn't.
It just, we've been waiting for everyone to come
back from injury and save the season.
in and to just, yeah, it just hasn't happened for them.
You got any questions about my Yanks?
No, not really. You want to hear about my twins?
Not yet, because let's do a little Orioles raise.
Because I don't want that to get glanced over.
My guy.
It's the Zach Bowl. First game, Zach Bowl.
Do you prefer an H? Do you prefer a K?
Oh, where does my Zach land?
This is tough because we, you know, we have a Zach at our company that,
That's, you know, probably one of the highest Q score ratings here.
Oh, my gosh.
Is he a K or a C?
I think he's a K?
He's a K.
I like, I'm a K.
I think K is like the traditional Zach, maybe.
And I guess if we're going to baseball version this,
especially if we're talking pitchers, you want that K in there.
Ooh, right?
Nice.
I think Zach would.
That's tough.
All the Zaks, comment and make sure you're subscribed.
They handle their.
business against it. They miss out on the sweep, which would have had them a game up, but a little,
how about those rays with a little comeback? Gunner gone through a little funk right now, but here's
Jackson Holiday, who at one point he had a six consecutive RBI streak. He had a three-homer
streak. I mean, I think there was a little when Jackson Holiday got called up. A, it happened
during the trade deadline that we thought the crochet trade was going through for a second.
a little egg on our face there.
But it seems like Jackson Holiday is going to be a part of this season going forward.
Well, he's a stud.
I almost gave my award today, but I decided to go a different route.
But he just exactly what the doctor ordered for the Orioles offense.
And it's kind of, I talked about this guy, I think last episode,
we talked about it on baseball today.
He's just, he's, he is who we thought he was.
It just, I think a lot of times you come up and you struggle with the lights and the
pressures of major league baseball but then you start to realize hey it's it's just the same game i got to
learn how to slow it down he's slowed it down dude that's that's the biggest takeaway that you can
get from watching jackson holiday from the beginning of the season to what he's doing now i think
that the pressure is still there but it's alleviated a little bit obviously having success helps with
that um but i i just think he understands now it's the same game i just got to learn to control the
emotions a little bit and he's been going off man.
Rays are now five and a half back of the wild card.
They are on,
they are on life support.
If they want to go,
it's got to start soon. We kind of thought they
looked like they had the sauce for a second.
And, you know, sometimes we don't highlight the studs enough.
Santander's 35th home run.
Yo.
And then I mentioned Gunner.
I think he had an 0 for 12 or 0 for 16.
And then he followed that up with back-to-back three hit games.
So another young prospect coming up for them.
Kobe Mayo has still, he hasn't got a hit yet.
So that's, you know, it goes to show you can be the biggest prospect in the world
and lighting up the world in AAA, but you get it to the big leads is a little bit different.
I'm sure he'll be okay as well.
But I'm curious to see what they do with him and how long that leash is.
And is he just up for good?
Because they're in the think of it.
They sure are.
Hey, speaking of thick, tell me about your Guardians twins series, the top baseball today bowl.
The great series is it really is.
I mean, the Guardians have really handled their business against the twins.
They've kind of owned them this year.
I believe they were 0 and 5 going into this series, so now they're sitting at 2 and 7 against the guards.
First two games were great.
You got some buck truck stuff.
Matt Walner with the 3-0 hack against Alex Collins.
Bob just an absolute
and middle middle heater 3-0
and he clobbered to put him ahead.
That was the second game on Friday.
So they win those two games.
It's one and a half games back.
They're feeling it.
And the Guardians just do what they do.
Gavin Williams had a great outing.
Jose Ramirez hits the Homer.
And then yesterday they had a chance.
Class A in there.
Basis loaded nobody out top of the order, down two runs.
And Willie Castro strikes out,
had a great bat struck out,
and then Trevor Larnick double play.
You know, it's same cast of characters offensively for the Guardians.
It was Kwan.
It was Ramirez.
It was Nailer.
Even David Fry had a homer in the last game.
They're a good team, man.
They just find ways to win.
They really do.
Gavin Williams and our guy, it's a bye,
bibe with good starts to finish it out for them.
And hey, good on them for bouncing back.
Their lead in that central down to one and a half at a certain point,
they stretch that back out.
I think finishing off in the AL,
the cards in Royal Split 2,
there's also a bang-bang play
that the Royals challenge in the eighth inning.
Our guy Tommy Fam, your buddy,
you guys attend the same clubs.
He beat out a double play that was, you know,
as bang-bang as it gets.
if that got turned over or called differently on the field.
Kansas City could go in with a lead.
Instead, they do not.
St. Louis opens it up,
and then they bounce back the next day.
You guys at home, no, I don't love a two-game series.
Don't love a two-game split.
I think maybe the thing that closes us,
closes us off and transitions us to the National League,
The Chicago Cubbies, sure, it's the white socks.
And like our guy Blake Snell, they were standing on their business.
But the Cubbies are, they never got called dead.
What's that meme of that guy in the hospital?
I'm not dead yet.
What is that one?
I woke up.
Ambulance, not for me.
No, not.
I'll see if I can find it.
Cubbies are, I don't.
I don't know. They're a game under 500. I shouldn't be excited, but they are playing good baseball lately.
They're eight and two in their last 10. Still one game under 500. Three out of the wild card. We're going to keep an eye on them. How about that?
We'll keep an eye on. And, and this is going to happen, okay? The Cubs travel to Los Angeles. This is so stupid. You're mentioning this. But I am finally going to bring Ian Hap, his bottle of Bordeaux.
Yes.
I'm going to do it. I have to.
You have to. It weighs on my, it weighs on me almost every single day.
I mean, I'm glad you brought it up because now I can hold on to that. And if you don't,
I got to be like the Lannisters. Pay your debts.
Yeah, absolutely.
That A.L. Recap is, oh.
Last thing in the A.L. Oh, I forgot to bring this up. Houston.
Excuse me, New York Mets up in Seattle. Seattle turns us great.
double play, Jorge Polanco, gloves it.
You know, Jimmy did that, like, what's up
with the Mets? Why don't they slide in the second base?
Right. It was another one.
Lindor, there,
just went in standing up
on a play that if you would have just slid
probably would have, not
probably, definitely would have broke up the double play.
And he didn't. I don't get it, dude.
I just... Weird.
It's weird stuff.
A's. They won against
the J's. Shout out to our guys.
Bito with the big start.
Trev Zach Gilaugh getting back in this season.
L but.
El off.
Brent Rooker.
One of the best hitters in the game.
Kind of.
The L recap.

Let's talk a little juicy.
Oh, hand-raised by Trev.
Happy birthday, Ian Hap.
Happy birthday, Ian.
Let's talk a little National League.
And why don't we start off with, I don't know,
the defending National League champions,
the Arizona Diamondbacks that don't lose series anymore,
even after losing that first game
where Real Mudo and Harper and Colby Allard got the job done.
It was all snakes the rest of the way.
Adrian Del Castillo with the walk-off Homer,
his first with the squad.
And then they were just rolling.
from there. Jake the Rake McCarthy
with a two homer day.
Kattel Marte has to leave with an injury
after he homers. We don't like that
at all. But they do like
Corbin Carroll has homers.
I think it was five out of the last
10 games. It looks like
something has clicked with him and if he
is back, oh boy.
Zach Gallin had to leave with
a leg cramp. That was another scary moment
but it don't matter. Snakes
are rolling. He's not going to miss his next
start. Uh,
Eighth straight series they've won.
Best record since July 1st.
It's middle of August, people.
The Diamondbacks are fully at the party.
They even knocked around seven foot tall Chris Sanchez.
The Rockies, not going to be invited to the party,
but they're doing some work for other people who are
because they beat the Braves.
Two games out of three.
My goodness.
Breton, you'll never be Doyle.
He has a homer and 2 RBI in the first game.
The Rockies, Charlie Blackman, Ryan McMahon,
we're interviewing the Braves manager after the game,
and he's talking about, yeah, you make your own luck.
Sure, there were some balls right out of our reach.
Victor Vodnick, former Brave with the redemption saves in the first and final
bread games of this series.
A Rocky six-run comeback in the first.
final game. I mean, I don't know what you do. I don't know what you do. Braves fans in a place
they haven't been in a long time out of the playoffs for a day. They're back in, well, we'll get
the standings from Trevin a little bit. The Los Angeles Dodgers, they sweep the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pirates, baby. Oh, no, what is you doing? I think an L-7, I think L-7, yeah, got that big trade deadline.
about. Didn't matter this series. Hey, Freddie, hey show, hey, sure. Tyler Glassnow with the seven
innings, two earn runs. Another Skeen's Day gets spoiled by River Ryan, who you met, Treve, but he also
gets hurt. I don't think there's any correlation there. There's the fun McCutcheon, two homers in front
of the kids, the McCutcheon kids. I don't know what we're labeling that. If you know, you know,
I suppose.
Dodger sweep, and by the way,
Mookie is coming back.
So, okay, I think we're going to see
some more Dodger stuff coming up.
The team that a lot of people are talking about,
the San Diego Padres,
the comeback kids, including two
extra inning victories in this one,
Jackson Merrill,
with three hits in the first game,
a homer in the second.
Martin Perez, sneaky little deadline
ad. He gave them seven innings. Ha-Song Kim.
And then we got one of the weirder highlights of the year as the Marlins win the last game.
But the Padres game, another scare.
But we had a home run that wasn't a home run that got knocked out of the field.
Kind of a weird loopholeish ruling on that one.
Little teaser, you might see it in the Weekly Dumb.
Oh, hey, Jake Burger.
Benchers. Benches cleared after a Crohn's own smile.
Sure.
It's hot in August.
Brewers take two out of three from the Cincinnati Reds,
and unfortunately that's obvious.
And maybe it's highlighted the most after the Brewers won their first game
where Big Willie style goes yards.
Savali with another start.
But we've got a one-nothing win in game two where Nick Martinez
goes toe-to-to-toe with Tobias Myers,
but there's Reeser with the home run.
Red salvage it on the last game,
but obviously too late.
little too late in Cincinnati this time of year. Jackson Cherio. The Giants, they take two out of
three from the Tigers and they have been rolling. A really good stretch out of them. Robbie Rye.
Logan Webb. Giants went on a walkoff. Mark Kanasack Fly, another sneaky little deadline move.
What was that? They've won 12 out of 15 in San Francisco before the final game they lost.
in that Nationals Angels series that everyone's talking about.
The Nationals, two walk-offs, Alex Call, Jose Tanya.
Yep.
Angels won the last game.
It looks like Jack Kocenevich started that last game.
Missed it.
I'll be honest, missed it.
That's what happened in the National League.
Little long.
Juicy NL.
It was a juicy NL.
It was juicy.
You had a lot of teams to talk about.
Do you want the standings?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm going to start out in the NL East where my Phillies are seven and a half games up on the Braves.
They're at 69 and 49, Brave 61 and 56.
Right behind the Brave, 61 and 57, though, that's the New York Mets.
You just mentioned the Nationals, 54 and 65, and the Marlins, 44 and 75.
In the Central, the Brew crew has a demanding lead on the Cardinals.
Seven and a half games up, they're 67 and 50.
Cardinals 60 and 58.
Those are the only two teams above 500.
We mentioned the Cubs at 5960.
The Reds falling out of it at 57 and 61.
They're 10 and a half games back in the division,
four and a half in the wild card.
Pirates, 11 games back in the division,
five back in the wild card.
They're 56 and 61.
And then out west, this is where the best baseball
is being played right now, Jake.
69 and 49 for the Dodgers.
Padres and the Diamondbacks,
both three and a half games back of that.
They're 66 and 53 apiece.
the Giants two games over 500.
61 and 59.
They're nine games back in the division,
but only one and a half in the wild card in the Rockies,
44 and 75.
In that wild card, Jake,
I mentioned some of the teams,
so let's go over it fully.
Right now, the Diamondbacks and the Padres
have the two top spots,
both, again, tied at 66 and 53,
four games up on the Braves,
who are a half game up on the Mets,
and then there's,
the Cardinals and Giants both sitting at one and a half games out of the wildcard.
I guess I'll mention the Cubs at three games back,
but really I think you got to be at 500 or better for us to really give you something.
So again, NL Wildcard very close.
There's four teams within three games of that last spot.
It's going to come down to it.
I'm excited.
Jake, those are the NL standing spot.
Magnificent, a demanding lead.
Did I say demanding?
You did.
I think commanding is what you wanted, but it...
I like a demanding lead.
I got this pimple on my face right now.
A lot of my focus is going...
I don't want to make excuses for my verbiage,
but, you know, when you have something like this,
it takes away your brain power.
Everyone knows that.
You're never going to say words right with that, you know?
Everyone's playing banged up this time of year.
I'm like Jackson Hall, his first go-around,
like Kobe May.
I'm a little nervous right now.
typically not my game, but I'm feeling.
I'm on the big stage.
Yeah, it's something like that.
Okay.
Really similar.
Let's, I said the West Coast is bringing the noise.
And I'll start where I started with the snakes.
Our guy, Dalton Feeley in the stands,
went to the final three games where they won.
People are saying.
The Phillies, they remain kind of struggling in a big way.
I talk about it.
I guess ironic's not the word,
but the fact that the Braves are struggling now worse
and the Mets have slowed down.
But the Arizona Dimebacks,
I mentioned it best record since July 1st.
That's a month and a half now.
I mentioned not only did they get injury reinforcements back,
but I mean, Corbyn Carroll,
turning it back around is just massive for them.
And I'm glad I brought up my guy, Jake McCarthy, a couple episodes ago
because the season he is now put together as just kind of,
there is a hodgepodge of young D-Backs outfielders that were like,
how is this going to sort out?
Will there be a trade?
He looked for a while like he was going to be one of the trade guys.
And now he's become a stalwart for them.
Is that a word?
Stalwart?
Yeah, that's a word.
Yeah.
I don't know what it's from.
Did you add an H at the end of that or did you get ended with the T?
So I added the H like the old wide receiver, Dante Stallworth.
Yeah, don't do that.
Hey, it's August.
We're all playing hurt, coach.
Oh, man.
I guess give my snakes some love and that'll leak into D-backs and Dodgers.
Yeah, I mean, Philly is, you know, they take the series from the Dodgers coming, they win the first game,
and then the snakes just answered, you know, got Dalton the stands doing some weird Instagram video,
and you got Adrian Del Castillo.
Second game in the show.
It's the walk-off homer for his first Major League home run.
That was awesome to see.
Then it was all snakes, and the offense just absolutely exploded.
I'm talking to 13, or see, be 23 runs over the last two games.
And you mentioned Corby and Carroll.
He had a homer against Alvarado.
Lefty, left.
He'd 99 miles now.
He hits it the other way.
I mean, just shows you where he's at right now with his swing.
The numbers support it.
This team looks good, man.
This team looks so good.
They can beat you in so many different ways.
They've got a full pitching staff now.
Everything is coming up snakes.
I mean, this is, I know the Phillies haven't been playing great ball as of late,
but they just went into Dodger Stadium, took that series.
Now, you take three or four from then.
I mean, this is, the snakes and the Padres are both going to threaten the Dodgers in that division.
And I don't think I was ready to say it last episode.
and I think I'm ready to say it now.
Like that is going to be a dogfight.
I know it's easy to say that when it's three and a half games
with just the way that they're playing
and the health that they have now
and the Dodgers kind of combating some more of the injury stuff.
Like this is this is going to come down to it.
We might see the Dodgers in a wild card series.
Man, that would be,
uh, that wasn't on a lot of people's bingo cards.
And that goes back.
You know, every year we do our kind of Draft Kings,
Draft Kings Betts episode and stuff like that.
It's funny every year they've done a couple like, you know,
these teams to win the division.
And like Braves Dodgers seemed pretty like as locked as you can be.
And Braves ain't going to happen.
And Dodgers are in serious question.
Snakes have some fun conversations about going.
to Ryan Nelson has been in the rotation.
Merrill Kelly's coming back.
Tori Lavello said they're not going to go six men,
which would kick one of them out there.
We actually saw the Phillies kind of deal with one of those situations
earlier in the season that they usually sort them out,
but it can lead to just a little bit of drama, you know,
if you start having bad starts.
Snakes are here, man.
I mean, Catele, we keep talking about,
is sneaky MVP, like vote getter type guy this year.
And yeah, if Corby and Carol, if Corbyn Carroll is this with Jake McCarthy,
Philly's tough West Coast trip, four and six, tough little stretch for them.
They are going back home and they'll host the Marlins and the Nat,
so maybe that can be the kind of final thing to get them out of this.
but again they've been
they've been
a little bit lucky that
Atlanta
and well Atlanta's been on the
struggle bus big time Mets
a really rough weekend
yes
did you see your guy
I guess we're transition
over to
the West
just real quick Braves Rocky
is probably not going to spend a lot of time on this
do it
Matt Olson's
Homer, Grand Slam?
I did not see that. No.
It's back, I mean, he's back into date your daughter.
Yeah, okay.
He went at triple deck
in right field,
the launch angle of a 50, I don't know,
it was so high and majestic.
I thought, I got to show Jake's story alley this
because he needs to be back dating your daughter.
Hey, man.
Watch this swing. Here it is.
I would love that.
Oh, God.
That's third deck, huh?
Oh, yeah.
That's on the way to the bar up there.
He had another one later in the game, so he had two in that game.
I just wanted to shout that out.
But I guess the Rockies really deserve the talking point.
Coming back in that last game,
only the second time in franchise history,
they overcome that type of lead at that point in the game.
So snaps for Ryan McMahon, Brendan Rogers,
all the fun guys that the Rockies have.
That's nice.
Bravo's, man.
Like Jorge Salar is hot.
Matt Olson is getting hot,
but the wins haven't followed yet that,
I don't know, they're still on the West Coast.
They're about to play your Giants for four,
who they're becoming a story.
Hey, yeah, I,
something is slightly off.
And hey, baseball, that can change quick.
That can change with one series,
and then it's go time again.
The top half of their lineup,
it's still a lot of the names that you want to see.
The top part of their rotation,
Max Fried's second start back.
It looked like he found a groove by the end.
But right now it's not coming together for them that,
you know, on a day-to-day basis,
they could be in or out of the playoffs,
which is just insane.
And the offense needs to go more cohesively.
Their numbers on the year still aren't anywhere near
where they need to be for this team.
Agreed.
Dodgers real quick, I guess, on this.
They ended the pirate season.
I think, I don't want to officially call them dead,
but I think they're dead.
You mentioned the big trade deadline
that really didn't happen for them.
But the Dodgers are responding
after losing a series to the Phillies.
They have this kind of firepower.
We are getting mooky bets back.
But River Ryan, as you mentioned,
he's gone. I mean,
I think Walker Bueller's
like on the way back and we'll see what he can contribute
but right now
I mean they just been keep
they keep the pitching staff keeps getting crushed
and I don't know if that's going to catch up to him
by the end of the season. They've always seen to figure it out
you know great on them for going out
and getting Flaherty and bringing him over
because they desperately need that depth
and they just
as much as we want to count the Dodgers out of
I'm trying to create this drama like, hey, man, like they might be a wild card team.
You know, they're only three and a half games up.
You know, they just, they're going to find a way, aren't they?
I mean, they just swept Pittsburgh, who Pittsburgh's in the bad place,
one in nine in their last 10, lost seven straight.
Like, it looks like it's over.
I mean, they are, they're the fourth worst record in the National League now.
Yeah.
That, yeah, and, yeah, the Dodgers part just becomes interesting because this,
this sounds like a cop out, but we know what they're playing for.
Like the regular season, sure, and hey, everything we just said about the Braves,
how they're now fighting for their lives.
The Dodgers aren't in that position.
Mookie Betts comes back right after they swept.
Like, we could, the Dodgers conversation, I think we know where it's going to land around,
although they got three teams in their division who are hot right now.
But the question is, like, what are they going to look like come October?
because Glass has done it all year and has been awesome.
They just added, I mean, the Trevor Ploof's team, you know,
Flaherty's there and he's still looked good.
But what's Kershaw going to look like?
Right now, Gavin Stone's fighting for his life in the rotation.
Like they don't have a starter listed for Wednesday.
That if the Dodgers come to the finish line and they don't have the arms ready,
it's just this is the team's window, man.
paid Teosker one year. You paid Shohei 700 mil for 20 years.
I think the biggest thing for them, I guess you can say this about any team, but really,
I believe this for the Dodgers, they don't want to have to go play three games and three days
and then have to figure out the rotation for, if they win that wildcard series, figure out
that rotation for the divisional series. They'd rather, I mean, it would suit them maybe more
than any other team to be able to skip that round and line up the rotation for the divisional
round. You know what I'm saying. Hey, and maybe the spin can be different. Like, where are, like, right now
the offense, Max Muncie, Tommy Edmund, we, like, I don't know, is he going to get in the mix at
some point? Mookie, obviously, that, yeah, the Dodgers, I guess more question marks than we
we expected as we approach September. Still think they can answer most of them. Should we be more
disappointed in Pittsburgh?
I feel like no,
because we knew that this was going
to happen by the end of the year
if they didn't significantly upgrade their
offense and then you have
you know, we knew the pitching was good
and it still is good, but you know,
just can't really, when you have one of the worst
offenses in all the baseball, it's
tough to keep things going.
The other,
well, there's two teams out West
that still need to be talked about for
what they're doing. The San Diego Padres, the comeback Padres, are becoming who we thought
they were. Like, they're this electric baseball team must watch television. And yeah, I mean,
we had it all. Croninworth hard slide into the bag. We got benches clearing on that. The
Ha, Ha, Song. It wasn't a hard slide at all. I don't know what happened right there. That was the
silliest thing.
Nothing,
it wasn't really a benches
clearing incident.
I guess it technically was,
but it was pretty tame.
I mean,
he slid into the base,
like directly into the base.
I don't know what,
people need to relax a little bit.
And your second base been like,
dude,
you're going to get a spike every once in a while,
okay?
It's not that big of a deal.
Wow.
Look at you.
You've gotten...
Sorry.
Being behind the mic changes you, man.
That's, you know...
Man.
We were ballplayers here.
Padres are a lot of fun
Again, the highlights out of this one are pretty well.
Donnie barrels with a pinch hit two-run Homer.
And then there was the Ha-Song Kim.
This is the one you need to look out if you just haven't seen it.
Hassan Kim hits one off the top of the wall.
It pops up.
It looks like it's returning to the field of play,
which would mean double.
Kyle Stowers, formerly of that Orioles,
freaky blonde AI-generated.
players. He goes off his glove and over the fence as he's pursuing it.
It was initially called a home run changed to a ground rule double. It's an odd one.
It's one of those, you know, I can only imagine how like hot and bothered this got Tim Kirkson,
because this is one of those like baseball plays that are, if you go to a base, you're going to
see something you never seen before. That's pretty good Kirkson right there.
It was okay, right? I mean, Jackson Merrill, you know, tying the game up for them in the
first two games, a big comeback kids is your calling them, and then this in the last game,
you're like, oh my gosh, they did it again in the ninth. Two outs in the night. Hassan Kim gets up there.
So, I mean, there's kind of a lot to unpack here. So it hit the wall and then hit the defender
and then went over. And that's why it's technically considered a ground will double. If it hits
a defender and then the wall and then somehow still goes over, it's a home run.
It's just in the rule book.
I guess, dude, if you were to ask me,
prior to seeing this play,
and again, you know, I don't know if people would remember this,
I played Major League Baseball.
Did you know that, Jake?
Yeah.
Important to remind the people sometimes.
Sometimes you got to remind people.
People get all over me sometimes.
I would have said this is a home run.
I would have said that's a home run.
And here we are and it's just not a homer.
And it kind of stinks, dude.
Like, if you're a Podrus fan,
like I saw our guy Ryan Cohen going nuts on Twitter.
Can't believe they just did it again.
Oh my gosh, Hassan Kim.
You love the moment for him.
And then all of a sudden, sorry, 7-6, you guys lose.
This hasn't happened very often because I really feel like I would have remembered something like that happening.
A wall person over the wall, not a homer.
Just remember that equation.
Yeah.
I mean, it's one of, it's, uh, everyone.
You know, it felt like Konseko-e.
Everyone remembers that famous play,
but because it hits the wall first.
And I don't think they can complain too much
because it does look like the trajectory of the ball
was coming back.
But at the same time,
dude, those little...
He knocks it over the wall.
Those little paddings on top of the wall,
which, okay, great, we've got padding on top of the wall.
How have we forgotten about the bottom?
Wake up humans.
But, dude, those paddings are always messed up.
That, like, that padding before the ball hits it
is tilted. Like, what is that? This is the field of play. Um, maybe I am Kirkjin,
mad dog. Um, you kind of sounded like him right here. And you weren't, and you weren't, like,
imitating him. You were just speaking how you speak. That was just, I was just speaking how I speak,
someone might say. Um, yeah, I, I want to finish out the West Coast. Well, given,
Milwaukee will give a little love on the way out and they're getting some other stuff along the way.
the San Francisco Giants, Trev.
I don't know whether to compare it to the Cubs,
because maybe they shouldn't be,
because they are above 500.
They are two games above 500.
If they weren't playing in this division,
what would we be talking about?
The Giants are playing over the past two weeks,
some of the best baseball around the league.
Robbie Way, Robbie Ray,
even. Shout out to my speech impediment friends.
Genuinely, Jimmy used to have one. Look at him now. King of the world.
Hayden, show me your bird song.
Trev, you've always kind of like this Giants team.
And I don't know, the ball's rolling, but it just better, like zero room for error at this point.
And that division is brutal. No way.
I think it's a good way to put it.
Zero room for error. But they're kind of, you know, hitting their strong.
tried finally. We like this team because of what they did in the off season,
made a ton of additions. And now like the pitching staff is healthy. Everyone's back.
You know, Blake Snell kind of looks like, you know, he's still known hitters. He's looking
like he's supposed to look when you sign that deal. Okay, I didn't have spring training.
People relax. He's back now. Robbie Ray comes back. He looks good. Logan Webb is
the ace that's still the workhorse, which is just such a rarity in all the baseball. So they
have one of, if not the best starting three in all of baseball.
Their pitching staff has been excellent.
They had to make an adjustment in the back end of their bullpen.
Duval's out.
He gets option down.
So you got Ryan Walker in there.
He gets his first save, which is really cool to see.
So they're making these adjustments.
Now they're starting to hit a little bit.
Matt Chapman's been really good.
But yeah, it's just they need to.
stay on this same path,
pretty much the rest of the season, Jake,
if they want to kind of get into the playoffs
because they are the teams ahead of them
that are just, they don't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon.
Man, and if you don't know how sick this sport is,
the fact that Camilo Duval can get sent down.
I mean, one of the most talented pitchers,
I think I've seen and, like, just couldn't feel like
a more uncomfortable at bat for me with how long he is and all that.
Yeah, he gets sent down to AAA, good for Ryan Walker,
for trying to pick up the slack.
And the rest of the Giants' pullpen,
who had a couple good games there.
So, yeah, if you're the Giants,
you got Cardinals, the Mets, and Atlanta in front of you.
I don't see them as, like, that far behind any of those teams.
I feel like all those teams kind of match up well right now.
So one and a half games back of Atlanta in the wild card,
this is, could we see four?
Or NOS teams in the playoffs?
Is that ever happened?
I mean, no.
I'll answer that question.
No.
No, it hasn't.
Yeah, let's, hey, it might be a fun late-night watch
to see if the giant, actually, any of the late-night watches.
Like, whatever N-L-West team is out there,
hell, even my rocks with that comeback, maybe not.
But you're going to find some good action out there.
Treb, I think I want to close it off with
Entires. I, you know, hey, who did I?
I saw Parker Meadows.
10 for 22 since coming off the IL.
Matt Veerling.
You know Matt Veerling.
You know he was involved.
Also shout out Mark Kana, who hits the walk-off sack fly
against his revenge.
I saw him before the trade deadline.
I was there in Detroit doing the game
when they were playing against the twins.
I talked to him in the tunnel.
And so how's it going?
He said, I'm just waiting.
Waiting to hear.
eventually goes back to the bay,
which is nice for him,
gets the walk off sack fly,
like I mentioned,
against the tigers.
Like,
times are good for Mark Kanner right now.
He's going out to,
like, nice dinners
and documenting them on his instrument.
Oh, like that.
He loves food.
Where's Gabe Kapler?
Um,
where is Gabe Kapler?
Is he in your neighborhood?
Um,
I want to close off with the,
the Reds Brewers Quick.
This is a little unfortunate to the Brewers
who had their five-game
win streak snapped in that final game.
I think a couple things of note here, and you're highlighting a Brewers player in a minute
or two.
Reese Hoskins had a 14-game hit streak going at a certain point there.
His numbers were very much teetering on a mad place.
He's kicked into gear a little bit.
I think the other thing that just kind of one of those head tilt moments for me when
talk about how weird a season could be, Devin Williams, with his first save on
Saturday. Something to just note in pocket as the season goes. On the other side of things,
the brewers have dominated the Reds. I think they've won 29 and 11 in their last 40. And again,
I don't know if you can control it. I don't know if it comes down to defense or bullpen or
luck or whatever. The Reds are 9 and 21 in one-run games this year. Like what would their season look
like if they were just 500 in those.
We could get you the actual numbers on that,
but they're not.
We said that about the Padres last year.
The Padres are crushing it in extra innings
and in one-run games this year,
and that's been a massive difference for them.
The Saturday game for the Brewers,
when you play in those games,
it's nothing, nothing bottom of the eighth comes up,
and you have a guy homer for you to go out one-nothing,
you bring your clothes in to lock it down.
Best games that you can play.
Best games.
that you can play because you're like, okay,
are we going to go into extras?
Are we going to have to walk it off?
And Reese says no.
Crushes the solo homer,
Devin Williams in, shuts the door.
You're just,
it's the best feeling in baseball,
especially in August.
Get that win, quick.
Like, tie it up nice and tidy.
Love it.
See how I tied that right there?
That was beautiful.
That was beautiful.
And he used to play baseball.
Let's go on to the second half of the show,
and it starts with,
standout performances.
Standout performances are brought to you by LinkedIn.
There's a ton of standout performers on LinkedIn.
That's where all the standout performers are.
That's where you've got to find them.
If you are hiring for a small business or wherever,
86% of small business get a qualified candidate,
and you're like, okay, 86%.
You like to think maybe they'd flex even higher,
even though that's a great number.
That's 86% in 24 hours.
And one day, you're more, more than likely to find a candidate who fits your job.
It's LinkedIn.
It's the one-one.
It's who you know.
Post your job for free at LinkedIn.com slash talking.
That's LinkedIn.com slash talking to post your job for free.
There's a link in the description.
It's LinkedIn.
It's where the people are if you're looking for the people.
That's just off the top of my head.
I sent you an Instagram.
It was
Casey Musgraves.
Yeah, you did.
Who's the new kind of country queen right now?
It was Casey Musgraves and Sabrina Carpenter.
Your first pitched.
Oh, that's what it was.
Yeah, so you have to choose one.
Who do you choose?
How do you mean?
Well, my old question used to be
Doja Cat or Duolipa.
Right.
And now I'm going,
Musgrave, Sabrina Carpenter.
I'm saying musically.
I mean, if I'm being honest with myself,
I'm more of a Sabrina just because I'm more poppy,
small.
Okay.
But, yeah.
I think I'm going Casey Musgraves.
I like that she writes.
I think I'm Sabrina your case.
I like Sabrina too, though.
BPD's the beautiful microphone that we put our lips to.
Who's your standout?
my standout is going we mentioned him a little bit
Jorge Salere who has been
you know obviously jacked looks great in a Braves uniform
you knew that already
but he had four homers in three games
on Saturday he went three for four with the homer
three runs driven in
against the rocks to get the dub
since going over to Atlanta
he's played in 10 games Jake he's almost
three four sixing it he's two ninety seven three ninety five
649 for the one daughter in 10 games.
43 played appearances,
four homers, a double,
10 runs driven in already,
and six strikeouts to 12 walk.
So in that 2 to 1 ratio, which is good.
So shout out Jorge Salar.
He's got to continue to go.
As you mentioned, those four teams kind of jumbled up there
at the bottom of the wildcard race.
Look at that bad boy.
I know it's in Colorado.
I know.
I know people.
That's okay.
That's a good feeling right there.
That's a good feeling.
Did he go into a little cave right there, the staircase?
That's always nice.
I like that.
You're out there, you're going to get, you know, a burger,
or do people who get hamburgers at baseball games?
They don't.
Then all of a sudden, the ball's coming your way.
That's nice.
People get burgers.
The hot dog, it's like the one place where the hot dog wins.
Yeah, like burgers are not necessarily a ballpark food, which is just strange.
They should be considered more.
Yeah.
But available to you.
I think it's just a little messier.
like the hot dog you can kind of eat and wipe the hand on the leg.
Burger, you need a washdown.
Wait, no, the reason
they invented sandwiches is because they're less messy.
Right, I'm saying the burger is a little more messy than a hot dog.
I don't think that's...
It's not a wide gap, but...
Let us know in the comments if you think a burger
is less or more messy than a hot dog.
Tell us why hamburgers fell off in the comments.
And just a reminder, Braves Devil Magic, not hot in the streets right now.
Jorge Soler, his career with the Atlanta Braves, he has an OPS in the Nines,
career 795, the rest of his career.
Playing right field for them because Marcel the bear is locked up in the DH spot.
That's a big right.
One of them has to play the field.
That's a big right field for Jorge to cover.
And yeah, Braves fans, I think they already have.
But that brutal loss, that six-run comeback, you have it circled because the math isn't mathing right now.
So Lair is bawling out.
Matt Olson has found it.
Austin Riley has picked it up a little bit, that it's like they're either about to be mentally broken and go one way or they're about to get hot and lock in.
I'll tell you what.
I might be late night watching Giants Braves this week.
Snell versus snail.
Sail versus Snell, excuse me.
Like that?
Sail versus Snell.
The Thursday game winds down with Max Fried and Logan Webb.
So, yeah, the Giantship going the right way, the Braves going the wrong way.
A lot of talent on the field.
Speaking of, again, I know we did talk about this a lot.
And Treve, we could have gone so many ways.
I mean, any Seattle Mariners starting pitching.
Zach Eflin Revenge game.
Judge.
How do you feel about Logan Gilbert on the sticks after the game?
How do you feel?
I love it.
College football is my most played game of all time.
It just strikes a chord with me.
It's not even playing the games.
I just like running the dynasty.
It's a weird little, I don't know what it is.
I need more context on like when exactly that was, all of that.
I need more information.
I don't care necessarily, but part of me thinks not a great look.
If like the game is still going on, I know he probably has ice on his arm, I'm guessing.
Or maybe he's got some contraption hooked up to his legs.
Like there's some sort of post-game rehab, I'm assuming going on.
I mean, if you've got the adrenaline pumping and you want to hit the recruiting.
trail. I mean, that's when you got to do it, you know. Um, but this people, look, I'm not trying to
like harp on this, but this is kind of why I always make fun of starting pitchers right there.
So I do get that. Um, you know what I mean? But you know what? I'll say if you get your work done,
like I don't care. If my starting pitcher gives me seven shut piece, then yeah, go knock yourself out.
No, I am, I am on it people. I understand. I would, I would, I would,
I'd go pat him on the back if I was in that clubhouse,
but I'm just saying it's pretty funny that they can go do that.
It is pretty funny they can do that.
Okay, let me ask you this.
Let me harp on it one more time.
Oh, God.
Say that I started the game at third base.
And I say I hit a homer, a double.
I went two for three, three runs driven in, maybe even a walk.
And then I got lifted for a pinch runner.
So I did my job
Right
And strunners in
But then I went back
And started playing video games
It's a great point
What would you
Is it different?
There's different optics to it
I think how about this?
I'm not hating on Logan Gilbert people
I'm not
In a one game scope
Seven innings pitch shut out
What would that be equivalent to at third base?
That would be like
I don't know
Like three or four runs driven in
Yeah two for three
Homer and a double.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think if you do that,
I think it's okay.
I don't think it is.
I don't think it is.
I know you know it's not,
but I think it is.
I'm not hitting on Logan.
Like you're the ace,
you're a stud,
you do your thing.
You continue to do you pop.
I just,
we're just talking.
Every indication doesn't seem
like the teammates are minded,
so.
No,
they don't care about it at all.
They don't.
Speaking of,
Spencer Ergetti.
We talked about, and I told you a stat before,
that Houston's allowed the least amount of runs since blah, blah, blah.
Recently, Spencer Arrogati has been a big part of that equation.
There's a few ways you can butterknife it.
The thing for me is the two most recent starts.
Six innings, one-earned run, 12 strikeouts.
seven innings, two earn runs,
13 strikeouts.
At Fenway Park, man,
where you give up a walk
and what looks like a fly ball to left,
you could give up two runs pretty easily.
Strikeouts,
this show has a love-hate relationship with strikeouts sometimes.
But a certain level of strikeouts,
that's just a form of dominating, domination.
You know, you're walking up to the plate
with a bad feeling in your mouth.
And Spencer Argetti has kicked into gear back-to-back 12 strikeouts games.
If you want to go back to, say, mid-July, 31-innings pitch, a 3-1-9.
That's not too gaudy.
But for what this Houston Astros offense needs, it's more than enough.
And, yeah, like we talk about when October comes with the Dodgers,
who's going to be throwing for them.
I mean, Spencer Argetti has gone from like weak spot in the rotation,
seven earn runs to the Detroit Tigers on June 15th and 1.1 innings pitch.
Toronto gets them for six, first week of July.
He has now become a staple and a guy you don't want to see on the bump
if you're facing the Houston Astros.
And I love, you know, I'm a good Paizan, Spencer Erageti.
Did you give that stat or is that me?
Tough to say.
I'd have to re-listen.
I'd have to watch the replay.
There was a strikeout for Erigetti that I thought he maybe looked over into Boston's dugout
and kind of like did a little something something to it.
Maybe it was to his own teammate because they didn't show who he was looking at.
Curious about that.
Kind of like the attitude.
So I'm into it.
Okay.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Oh, you got a lot.
Is he from there, too?
We're big, we've always been a big Louisiana pod.
He's from Texas.
It says he went to Katie, Texas.
That's outside of Houston.
Oh, yeah.
Katie, yeah, it is.
It's like born to Albuquerque.
Born in New Mexico.
Someone gave us the erigating.
Is that by Tomball, Texas?
Excuse me?
Yeah.
Okay.
Trev, there was a lot of standouts.
and some of these guys more than others.
Can you give us the best segment in the show,
the Corona Extra, Enfuego?
Dirt nasties on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
As you mentioned, Enfuego brought to you by Corona Extra.
I just talked about Jorge Salary,
seven for 13 in the series, four home runs,
nine runs driven in.
How about Yoron Alvres, Alex Cora,
I believe it was Cora said he's like Aaron Judge.
He's like David Ortiz.
And I got to be honest with you, I know how good judge is and I know how good pop he is.
But I get it.
Yordon Alvarez is on par with those guys.
I think, Jake, this is just me talking here.
I think he might be the guy that I pick, like, life on the line need a guy to get a knock.
Like I think I pick Yoron Alvarez.
I think he is just that consistent and, like,
I don't know.
Okay.
That's just me.
Anyways, six for 10 in this series,
a double three home runs, five runs driven in.
He's got a 488 average, a 1.6 in 12 career regular games at Fenway,
seven homer, 16 run driven in in those games.
He leads all qualified hitters with a 363 average,
a 1.1 OPS on the road this season.
And that's why you're getting those Alex Cora comps right there.
How about this guy?
We've talked about him so much,
and he was your big free agent signing for the Dodgers.
To Oscar Hernandez, hits the Homer off skiing splinker.
10 for 25 this week, four doubles, three home runs,
eight runs driven in for the 1.3.
We mentioned Alex Bregman is really, really getting it going as of late.
12 for 27 over the week, three doubles, three homer, six runs driven in.
He extended his multi-hit streak to a career high five games.
That's awesome when you go on those streaks.
I'm watching this guy climb up this wall right now.
I'm sorry.
Whoa.
What do you mean?
They do things different in Mexico.
This guy just like climbed this wall.
I don't know what was happening.
Okay.
He works here.
That was awesome.
On Sunday, Bregman, I mentioned.
He extended the multi-h hit streak game to five games.
He's slashing 336, 418, 583 with a one dot.
36 homers, 145 runs driven in across 870.
70 career play appearances in August.
This is best month by far September,
not too far behind.
So you know Breggie is going to be a big part of this Astros push here in September.
How about starting pitcher Nick Martinez of the Cincinnati Reds?
Two games started, 12 innings pitch, zero runs, zero walks, 12 Ks.
That's what you like to see.
Hey, also last eight games, he's had two starts at that time.
Three and O, 24 and a third innings pitched, 25Ks, only one.
unearned run for the point three nine.
Nick Martinez. What's up,
dog? Okay. And then for the two weeks,
Joey Bart, we've been talking a lot about him
as of late. He went 15
for 44, four homers, 10 runs driven in,
nine runs scored. Logan Webb
Unreal. Three games started,
21, two-thirds innings pitched.
Only two earned runs, 18Ks. That's a 0.83
ERA. He leads the major leagues
in innings pitch with 157, Jake.
He pitched seven plus
innings for the 13th time this season.
No other player is thrown seven plus innings more than 10 times in 2024.
That's why he's the guy.
And then relief pitcher Tyler Kinley of Your Rock.
Six games in these two weeks.
One save, three hold, six games pitch, only one hit.
Seven K's, no runs.
That's a zero ERA.
And it is time now, Jake.
As you know, for the Corona extra player.
This guy just did a little bit more.
and he did it in front of our guy Dalton's eyes.
Jake McCarthy,
eight for 18.
That's a 444 average.
Three homers,
a triple 11 runs driven in
in the four game set against Philly.
He has the highest average in the NL
since the All-Star break at 385.
He's just another reason why we're so high on the debacks.
That added depth in the lineup
what he's been able to bring to the table.
Now you got Corbyn Carroll going again as well.
shout out to jake mccarthy our corona extra player of the app
trev beautifully done make sure you guys go out get some coronas

Get yourself a Corona.
Feels like a big Corona Extra October coming up.
God.
Am I seeing you this weekend?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
I got a lot of like weird stuff coming up.
Just real crazy trips all together.
I believe Blitzball 5 is happening soon.
That's sneaking up.
Sneaking up, coach.
So yes, I'll be seeing you this weekend, though.
Glad my life's going to be slowing down.
What is slowing some people down is the IL.
It's the worst segment of the show.
Placed on the IL.
Cookies Carasco, you hate to see that.
I hate to see that.
Austin Hayes, new Philly legend.
He goes on the aisle.
Joe Ryan, Trev's Guy Guy, guy,
along with Brooks Lee, the super prospect for Minnesota.
Let's see, a lot of arms.
We talked about River Ryan,
Wenziel Perez for Detroit.
A lot of chunky bullpen list on this.
I'm going to knock on wood.
It's a little scarier.
James Paxton expect to go on the aisle if you didn't see that one.
That was a tough one to watch.
It looked like his calf just locked up.
I don't know.
It was a weird one.
He's expected to go on the aisle today.
Returning from the aisle.
How about Alex Cobb?
You mentioned that in the Cleveland series.
Another could have been Giants pitcher.
throwing it for the guard dogs.
Trev's Kyle Farmer.
Hey, you're guy guy.
Reed Garrett for that Mets bullpen,
Emilio and his pagan ways for Cincinnati.
D.L. Hall for Milwaukee.
Remember, that was supposed to be the piece
in the Corbyn-Burn Strait as Joey Ortiz.
Homer's again.
Merrill Kelly for the snakes,
making that six-man.
And Julio, grab the stretch.
Mookie Betts coming back.
Joe Musgrove, just what San Diego.
Diego needed more reinforcements and Taiwan Walker for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Can we finally start off everyone's weekend?
Or no, it's the week.
God, where am I?
Trev?
I'm just getting one page up real quick here.
That's all right.
I'll tell you the awards are brought to us by Momentus.
You may assume you're getting everything your body needs from a diet or a green juice here
and there, but most people are still short.
Mm-hmm.
I'm essential nutrients.
Our bodies need to function at our best.
That's where Momentus comes in.
Cretine, omega-3 protein.
I've been having a lot of creatine conversations around the office.
I didn't realize, like, what creatine is.
I just had, like, old high school football memories of creatine.
Cretine, really good, and it can aid cognitive function to reducing inflammation and muscles in Joyce.
And momentous.
You may have heard this before.
When we originally started talking to this,
we're like, what's your guys deal?
You guys are silly.
You guys, they're like, we're the best.
Oh, excuse us.
And they are found in all but two MLB teams clubhouses
as they are their trusted supplement provider.
So there's a reason why the world's best.
Who are those two teams?
Who are those two teams?
I have to find that out.
I don't know if there's an NDA.
But the best.
Also, just real quick, I don't think you
want to be labeled as like the silly
Yeah, that's true.
The silly nutrient company.
That's a great point.
That's why I probably didn't have too many job offers there.
Go to live momentous.com.

That's live momentous.com with code talking.
There's a link in the description.
A good deal, a good product.
That's what you want, Trev.
Your standout?
My award?
Or even better.
award?
My award is called the Flying Under the Radar Award.
Okay.
Something I'll just never understand as, you know, I like, you know, I like Top Gun.
I like Top Gun Maverick.
I watch it frequently when I'm on the airplane.
It's kind of in my go-to movie.
But you watch these plane movies and they frequently, you know, say, hey, we're going to fly
under the radar.
Like, they literally mean under the radar.
There's a scene in Top Gun Maverick where they have these, they call them Sam missiles that are on top of this canyon.
And if you go above, you hit the radar and they fire missiles at you, right?
But somehow you can fly below radar.
Why can't radar just reach like the ocean?
It's a great point.
Why can it reach the level of the ocean?
Great point.
What do we do?
How can you fly below radar?
I'd even understand if you flew too high for the radar,
but below radar always, I just never really understand that.
I guess it makes sense with like mountains and buildings or stuff,
because then that's what's blocking, interfering with the radar, right?
I guess, but you know, you can go under the radar on an ocean level as well.
Yeah, it's a good point.
It's a good point.
Great point.
Thanks.
I just don't understand it, but I do enjoy it.
I enjoy when you fly under the radar.
I'm like, yeah, look how low those planes are to the ground.
It's so sick.
I wish I could fly these things.
Tom Cruise tried to and Topgum Ever.
They said, no, Tom, you can't.
Even though he just repelled down the Eiffel Tower,
I believe and brought the flame to Hollywood.
Because people, 2028 Olympics are in Los Angeles.
I will be a coach on that USA baseball team.
Anyways, there was one guy that was flying under the radar.
We went into this season with the Jackson 3, right?
It was Jackson Merrill.
Hey, shortstop, getting the nod out there to play center field for the Padres.
You were all over, Jake.
I got to give you credit, man.
You were all over Jackson Merrill being kind of the difference maker for the Padres.
And he surely has been.
And then you got Jackson a holiday who really stole all the hype.
It was going to be him.
And he makes his debut.
It's bad.
He goes down.
People are talking about that.
Now he's back up.
He's going off.
good for him gets a lot of hype but the other jackson i think is really flown he's flown under the
radar for the for the most part and that's jackson shorio of the milwaukee brewers so i think there's
something really important to point out first of all he's playing uh really good baseball since
the beginning of july jake which is 30 games uh he's in 320 365 500 for the 866 ops but then
in just typical
Brewer's fashion, dude.
As soon as things seem to be
bleak or dark,
Christian Yellich, who's playing
incredible baseball this year, he ends up
going out. And that was on
July 23rd.
Since July 23rd, the numbers
have been even better for Truro.
353, 389, 559
for the 948 OPS.
Jake, did you know that the Brewers have the
second best
run differential in all of
baseball?
I did not.
Like, what's up with that?
Why did, whenever the Brewers face adversity with their lineup, with their pitching staff,
they just seem to get better.
Since Yelly's gone out, Jake, they're 10 and 6.
And not mostly, but partly because what Jackson Trio is doing.
I just, I think he gets, he gets left behind in the Jackson talk and the rookies.
This guy's 20 years old.
Jackson, freaking Trio doing it.
I really liked what he has been doing since the beginning of July,
but then I looked at the numbers since Yelly went out.
You know, can you step up? Can you be a guy?
Can you be a cog in the offense to help your team, you know, retain that division lead?
And obviously, yes, 68 at bats, 24 hits, four homers, 10 runs driven in,
948 OPS, Jackson Turyo flying under the radar.
But he won't be because he's going to be playing in the playoffs,
and that's kind of when these things blow up.
So stay under the radar for now.
And then we'll see you in the postseason.
My guy Jackson Trurio,
under the radar where goes to you.
Beauty Trev, yeah, I know he had a,
I think he had a mess Sunday game,
but outside of that, he's been electric.
And it's kind of, I guess,
what I was saying with that,
you know, kind of where we are at in the season,
it's going to be exciting to see where these teams land.
Like if Jackson Truroo continues like this come October,
you know, he's going to be one of,
if not the most feared lineup in the Brewers team.
And there was a while where his rookie year
was looking disappointing.
And yeah, he's having a two and a half war season.
He's got a positive OPS Plus.
Like for a 20-year-old rookie season, you know, for what can truly be expected, he's doing some great stuff.
And he's under Brewer's team control if they want it through 2033.
So you can get familiar with him in Milwaukee and everywhere else.
I'm going to go a slightly different way with it.
I was debating just pairing on the other Jackson's
because everyone is bawling and just kind of rolling off of that.
There could have been some love for Dansby and Mallory Swanson.
I'll give them their snaps.
Mallory with the goal and the gold medal game.
Danesby got a thousandth hit.
Pretty cool as the Cubs are surging late.
Instead, I'm going to...
That's a great award.
Why didn't she go with that one?
I know, because I'm kind of mid.
And I'm a homer.
I'm going to give out the unique New York Award.
Unique New York.
The Human Torch was denied a bank loan.
Trev, there was a little bit of slight history made the other day.
Giancarlo Stanton, wow.
Remember him?
Meady dude.
MVP, 59 homers.
He's been forgotten a little bit this year.
between an injury and the Stan judge, or excuse me,
the Judge and Soto show that we get to see every night.
Stan became the 17th player in baseball history
to hit 20 homers in 13 of his 15 seasons.
He's a historic power hitter.
And Trev, the unique New York, A, just the Anchorman opening scenes.
They'll always just get a little gig a lot of me,
certain time in my life.
Dude, the home run he hit the other day.
It was one of those 115 exit Velo, the launch angles like zero.
But Trev, something really cool about it.
I think he knew the slider was coming.
I don't know if he was guessing or I don't know if he maybe had something on the clerk.
He went down and got it and there was just something weird about the way he swings,
the way he attacks the baseball and the way he balanced his body in that swing,
it's oddly unique that nobody does it like that.
Nobody hits the ball harder.
And Trev, something I'd like to know, while he was out,
was also when the Yankees played their bad baseball.
When Giancarlo Stanton is in the starting lineup,
the Yankees record is 50 and 24.
50 and 24 with Big G in the lineup.
Is that luck?
Is that having Stanton as protection for Judge and Soto?
There's something there.
And I don't know.
His OPS is sitting at 797 right now.
There's some numbers trending the right way for him.
That, yeah, he is as unique of a watch as it gets.
And boy, is he going to be tested?
Because pitchers know not to pitch to Soto and Judge.
They're not sure if they should pitch to Stanton yet.
And he's a huge part in where the Yankees are going to land the ship this year.
I'm happy you got your Stanton fix in there.
I think everyone needed that.
You guys have been talking about,
hey, wait till we get John.
You know what, you haven't been talking about that,
but my good friend Dan Rourke has been talking about that.
He's a big,
on Carlos Stanton believer.
Yeah, yeah.
Wait till we get G back, man.
He's awesome.
I love watching him.
I think it is very unique.
Jeez, I just combined unique in New York right there.
You norc.
New York.
That should have been the name of your award right there.
Unork.
He's the bat harder than anybody.
He's got the closed stance, which is a little bit different.
He does, he did go down and get that ball.
That was crazy.
I don't know, man.
He's been great in the postseason too.
I think people forget how good he has been in the post season.
So obviously, very much welcome back for G and the Yang.
He says that you guys need it, man.
I guess need it.
It's, there's something about being a threat.
He's been really good with running.
in scoring position this year.
Yeah, and I think if I wanted to, this overlaps
with his time being out,
but his last, what is it, 28 games or so,
he's been knocking the cover off the ball.
So, and dude, he's a historic player.
Like, I know his body.
I've been saying he's going to be a Hall of Famer.
Everyone laughs when I say that.
He's going to hit 500 homers.
He's going to get in the Hall of Fame.
His body doesn't move like it used to,
Yeah, the last 19 games, excuse me, a 9-63 OPS.
And yeah, if he has a couple more scenes like this,
he's going to be 500 homers, MVP in the bank.
Good having the big fella back.
Good being back with my big fella.
Trevor Goof in the booth.
We will see you on Wednesday.
Maybe a funky episode?
I feel like it's that time of year.
We'll talk about it.
We'll talk about it.
For now, enjoy the week, everyone.
About it.
Jake sucks.
I got some fans down here in Mexico.
A couple Jake sucks thrown my way like that.
Oh.
Got some love in Nashville.
No Trevor Ploof commentary.
You think that bothers me?
You think that bothers me?
Maybe we'll do Jake sucks.
