Hello and welcome to talking baseball. The AL East. Yanks and O's go down hard. There's something rising in the West. And I'm not talking Trevor Plouffe. Let's talk ball. Cardinals?
Ball schemes. Time. Time. It's too late. You're out.
Walk off pitch clock at Coorsfield. Hello and welcome to talking baseball. That is Trevor Plouf.
BPD on the ones and twos.
Myself, Jake Storieli, as we talk about all of it,
might be a Blue Jays funeral.
We haven't even discussed that before the show.
There was so much around the league this weekend.
Paul Skeen's 102 to finish it off.
My 102 to finish me off.
Trevor Plouffe, got to see you all weekend.
You can hear it in my.
voice.
I sure can.
How you doing,
Big Poppy?
How was the flight home?
Flight was good.
I was trying to explain to the lady next to me
why I was making these like,
uh,
noises,
you know,
like I was,
it was tough for me.
Yeah.
And so I showed her some videos and she was like not of that realm.
Please stop talking to me,
yes.
Yeah,
pretty much.
But I charmed her,
obviously.
Yes.
But I'm feeling good.
And I just noticed we look like,
couple summer treats like sherbert ice cream lick us all up are you kidding me right now i'm fired
i'll be honest with you yeah there are times i come out here in the morning especially after a warehouse
weekend where i'm like damn pretty i'm tired man let's just get through this up that's not today
like i'm fired up the baseball was good like some teams are finally doing what they're supposed to be
doing uh i got some guys i want to highlight cj abrams we're gonna talk about you bro because there's
some things that I need to just get off my chest.
So that's how I'm doing. I don't know, man. I'm just, I'm in a good mood. I got a lot of
energy, which is shocking. And I look like a treat.
Dude, I was between wearing that shirt or this shirt. So I'm bummed. If we went double tie-dye
today, I mean, this would be this would be off the rails. I'd have to call nameless, Jeff,
and get him over here. We'd have to put an NR17 label on the episode.
I mean, let's get into it because Trev, we have a new playoff team in the AL, which we haven't had in a while.
I've been calling for them for two weeks, three weeks.
I think last step you tried to call them the third best team in the A.
I think I did it. Maybe they are. I'll tell you what the best team in my A.L.
Is it seat geek? Seat Geek, Code Talking 10.
Go see a game. Look at that seat. Look at that seat. That's what you'll be saying with seat geek.
Go see a concert.
Summer's here.
Like, it's hot.
I'm going to a concert on Wednesday.
We were talking country concerts before this.
Go see some baseball.
Your team is probably in it because the whole National League is in it.
And there's some teams in the West that we thought might have been dead in the AL,
but they're coming back to life.

It's Monday.
It's American League Monday.
Yes.
Well, well, well, well, it was a bit of a Texas two-step this weekend.
The Houston Astros, they sweep the Baltimore Orioles.
Okay.
Starts out a four-term.
14 to 11, chaos bowl.
Gunner, two homers.
Adley, five for five.
The Astros simply do not care.
Joey Loporff?
Is this your guy, Trev?
We're going to talk about him.
We're going to talk a lot about Ronel Blanco, doing it again.
Alex Bregman, 4 for 4 in the finale with Framber on the bump.
Altuvae, Pena.
A lot of the names.
and now the Houston Astros.
Are they in the mix?
Get out of here, Albert Suarez.
The Atlanta Braves, they came to New York this weekend.
It was hot.
They take two out of three.
The Yankees win the middle game.
Me and Trevor got to watch this game together.
Marcus Stroman, sure.
Aaron Judge.
Outside of that game, it was a lot of Atlanta Braves.
How's your lefty?
Chris Sale, five innings, one,
Run. Your boy, Maximus Fried, six innings, one earn run. He's about to be so rich.
Young Thick Austin Riley is going. The Little Monster Ozzy Albies. Braves are hot.
Yanks have lost their last three series, okay? Speaking of A.L. Least, the Toronto Blue Jays
get swept by Chris Rose's Guardians. It is ugly in the Great North.
Uh, Yario Rodriguez, Trev's Cuban pitcher, rocked.
Guardians did it early and often.
Stephen Kwan is competing for the best OPS in baseball.
Never mind trying to hit 400.
Uh, it's getting dark early in Toronto, and I think the trade machine's about to open up.
Um, guard dogs are also just really good.
Stop shit talking them, Chris Rose.
The Kansas City Royals.
They've been in the dance since April 6th.
And now they are currently out after getting swept by the Texas Rangers.
W-4 for them.
Nate Evaldi has been shoving of late.
John Gray, six shut out.
Wyatt Langford is starting to go.
Okay.
What is going on with Out West Jose Urania?
Good for you, dude.
Texas.
They sweep and they're an interesting conversation.
The Detroit Tigers take two out of three from the White Sox.
Okay.
Hey, Drew Thorpe.
Nice outing, bro.
Jack Flaherty, where's he going to be pitching soon?
Jonathan Cannon, flame to shame.
I think that's an old talking baseball reference.
He got rocked.
You didn't watch this series, people.
Colt Keith playing some good baseball.
We like that for him when Seale Perez and Riley
green and trev the series everyone's talking about the minnesota twins take two out of three from the
oakland athletics a's with a nice little comeback in that first game shea gonna swing from the
langela here's don't sing when you're losing your voice jake uh they had a pitcher get a win who
didn't face a batter technically the twins took the next two games they blow them out nightmare bailey
Ober nine innings, Pablo Lopez eight shutpiece, twins take two out of three. Hey, this is what
happened in the A. Okay.
Great job, Pop. Unbelievable.
I know you're hurting a little bit right now, but you're getting through it. And for that,
we appreciate you. Yeah. Are you looking for something?
The warehouse. I would love to hear the standings.
Well, because it's Monday. It's Monday, and they have changed. And because it's Monday, we're
starting out west.
The Seattle Mariners still holding court.
45 and 35 out there in the west.
But as you mentioned, a couple of those Texans.
Yo!
Um, in.
Houston Astros, 38 and 46 games back.
Pet division is within reach people.
Texas Rangers, 37 and 40, six and a half games back.
Then you got the Angels at 30 and 46.
Then you got the Oakland A's at 29 and 51.
in the central Cleveland's still doing it.
I'm going to put a little...
I'm going to talk about Cleveland
in a way we used to talk about a certain team
that won a World Series.
So check that out later in the app.
49 and 26 for the guard dogs,
43 and 35 for my twins, 7 and a half back.
Sheesh.
Guardians are doing it.
The Royals taking a little spill here,
42 and 37, 9 games back.
Tigers, 36 and 41, and the White Sox,
21 and 58. Sheesh. Out east. The New York Yankees, they do not have the best record in baseball anymore.
52 and 28, Baltimore Orioles after getting swept, 49 and 28. They're one and a half gains back of the Yankees.
And here come the Red Sox. My team, 42 and 36. The Tampa Bay Race, 38 and 40 and Toronto. Are we burying them? I don't know.
35 and 42, 15 and a half games back in the wild card.
Baltimore still sits on their perch way up high in that first wild card spot.
There's seven and a half games up in that.
Minnesota has the second one and the Boston Red Sogs are a playoff team.
Behind them, the Kansas City Roads are a half game back.
And then a bunch of teams jumbled up there, Houston, Tampa, Texas, all within four and a half games.
of that third wild card spot.
And those are the standings in the American League.
That was a movie, Trev.
Unreal job.
Unreal job by you getting through the standings.
Just read those numbers, Pop.
Okay.
Dude, hey, we're feeling good today.
We got the bright colors on.
Let's start with the good.
And I guess that's mostly out west
Seattle, you're probably not going to talk to much
You're in the NL
Because the Marlins have just been beating everyone lately
We'll get there
The Houston Astros
They sweep the Baltimore Orioles
The Texas Rangers
They sweep
The Kansas City Royals
Who had been in the playoff picture
The whole season
Let's start with the Astros
You start with the Astros.
You're a Joey Low guy, Cook.
So I think for a lot of the season,
we've been expecting more out of the Astros, obviously.
And, you know, we've just seen it for so long.
It's like an episode or a TV show.
Like, you know what's going to happen.
And we just, it was different this year.
It felt different.
Things weren't going their way.
But in this series, I mean,
and don't let that 14 to 11 game,
like make you think differently.
This was a shalacking by the assholes.
They beat the brakes off of the Orioles.
The game was 14 to 3 at one point.
Yeah.
They scored eight unanswered runs.
Who cares?
That's a joke.
We'd care a lot more if it was 11.
What?
Like if they, if the Orioles had done this,
I'd be the first thing we were talking about.
14 to 3, dude.
Like they were beating it.
Whatever.
It happens.
Okay.
But they got back to like typical Astros baseball.
Framber looks great.
They have another great starting pitching performance by Blanco.
We expect that.
They're starting pitching to be good.
So okay, we get that.
In Sunday's game, what does Altuva do?
First pitch bomb.
Like that's, that's Astros baseball.
They add on.
They're starting to steal bases.
They're talking about intent and attention to.
detail after the game. When the Astros start talking about intent and attention to detail,
that's trouble for the rest of the league. We're sack bunting. We're sack bunting. We're stealing
bases. We're getting youthful, which is a thing that I don't think, I don't think the Astros have
been youthful in years past. I mean, you get, you know, we're a few guys here and there. Pena
comes up, he's youthful. He brings the energy. But we're getting Joey Lowe. My
guy to come out. He's running around. He's a big boy.
Making diving catches out there in left field, putting together good at bats.
Mariso Dubon has just been, he's been doing it.
He has been consistently a threat there. So it adds length to the lineup.
All of these things are just typical of the Astros winning baseball games.
And they're just like kind of getting back to that. Like Bregman is starting to really go.
And this is all like Kyle Tucker's missing time now because he fouled
that ball of his shin, like, when he gets back and this team is still going the way they're going,
it's hard not to see an astro surge.
And we've been like waiting for it, kind of calling for it.
It hasn't come.
And now all of a sudden it's here.
And it's like, oh, yeah, like, obviously they were going to do it.
It seems like very obvious that this was going to happen.
And now that it is, it's like, okay, here we are.
And now they're not going to trade Bregman.
And now it's like things, everything is back in line.
like down there in Houston?
They're on path to get back in line.
And they deserve, like I said from the start,
they deserve all the credit in the world.
And I'll get in front of this because obviously, like,
am I rooting for Houston?
No.
I'm a Yankees fan.
They've dominated us.
Like, it's not go Astros go.
But I'll say this.
If Houston, we've been begging all these teams to make an early move,
Imagine if Houston added someone today.
If Houston was just like, hey, no, we're here.
The whole league would take notice.
Like, that's it.
It's done.
They've got two with Colorado coming up.
The Mets, Toronto, who is spiraling.
Your twins, Miami, the Kingslayers right now.
And then they finish with Texas.
Six series left.
They've won their last five.
two against the White Sox, three against the Orioles.
I mean, you just got to keep the train going.
Get to 500, get over 500.
I think the train is going.
That's what I'm saying.
It just needed, like, here's the hill.
And they were climbing it, climbing it.
And then once you get over the hill
and the momentum starts with the ashes,
we just seen it time and time again.
Once they get momentum, they go.
Like what it shows?
shock you if by the end of the year the Ashoes won the AOS. There's six games back right now.
Like, it wouldn't shock me at all.
Wouldn't it shock me? Seeing that six game lead, a Seattle team that I've been trying to give
respect to and how could you not with the rotation. I respect the Mariners. Of course I do.
I'm just saying we've seen this movie before. We've seen seven Houston movies and we've seen
one Texas movie, man. Last year. Last year.
And they're starting to get some of the good sauce that,
I don't know, I guess the image in my head this morning,
because the last couple episodes we've done like,
wait, Boston's got some sauce.
Like, one of these teams is going to join the AL Wild Card Mix.
I think we're lining up for a big AL summer.
Like, I think the National League is going to feel weird and disappointing.
And we'll get there later in the episode.
Because, yeah, I mean, we're talking sub-500.
teams. We are with the Astros too, to be fair to our national...
And the Rangers.
But those teams have...
We have last year's World Series champion.
The year before is World Series champion?
When did the Astros win?
So we're talking about the last two World Series champions.
Never mind everything else on Houston's resume.
And yeah, this is...
This is go time.
It's that before the All-Star break.
Who are we going to be talking about that went 21 and 10?
And it's looking like both these teams have the potential
for it. I guess I'm not ready to say it's going to happen.
Because we've, Houston had one other stretch that the train was gaining momentum and then they
kind of hit a wall again. So I don't know, you know, is it grimace in the Mets? Probably not.
But maybe it is. Maybe it is. Why are you shaking your head?
I just, I mean, they've dealt with so many injuries to their starting rotation and,
but they've had guys like Blanco come and kind of fill the void there. And I don't know, I just,
And maybe it is that.
Maybe it's the fact that we just
seen it time and time again with them.
That's why I have this feeling.
But when I get feelings like this, man, I don't know.
I feel like I'm pretty spot on.
When I say a team's about to go, they go.
Okay.
How about your guy, uh,
Breggie with his son Knox at the presser?
Does it get any better, you know?
I mean, yeah, it's my guy.
We're texting buddies.
That's everything you're about.
He hasn't, he hasn't texted me in two years.
Whatever.
It's not a big deal.
It's weird.
It's weird.
Maybe we'll have to give Jim as another all-JM team.
Let's talk some Texas Rangers.
I mean, it's a little bit,
I don't want to say it's a little bit of the same story,
but, man-alytics, you need your players to play well.
Texas's offense hasn't really gone this year.
I was shocked to see, you know who's leading the Texas Rangers in war this year?
And putting up a pretty big war number?
Josh Smith.
Yeah, I was going to say he's up there.
Josh Smith, low-key raking while filling in for our guy Josh Young,
followed by Simeon and Seeger, who are coming,
but they shut out the Royals in back-to-back games, yo.
And they sweep this series, who, by the way,
Max Scherzer started the last game.
You need the Jimmy's and the Joe's to perform,
and Texas is starting to get that.
Houston is starting to get that
that I think I
raised a yellow flag for Kansas City
that flag is still up
and I don't know
Texas is telling themselves
the same things we said about Houston
So getting a guy like
Max Scherzer back does so many
things obviously you like the performance on the field
he goes to five innings pitched
one hit no one runs so you're happy like
okay this looks like Max Scherzer
but it also just gives a spark
to the team like okay like we've kind of
waiting for this guy to come back. We're still waiting on DeGrom to come back. You know,
we lost our, our third baseman in spring training. Like there's, you get to this point we're like,
okay, like, let's just tread water and then get our guys back. And then once you start to get those
guys back, things start, the energy comes back into the building. And I think we're, I think we're
seeing that. We've had, and we have, like you mentioned Josh Smith, fill in and do great things.
But as the summer comes on and we're getting back to a more, and we've been talking about this for
while. Like once we get these, once you get a full roster, that's your team. That's when you feel like
you can really, you know, start to analyze and see where you're at against the league. And I think
we're kind of at that point for the Rangers now. I'll say this. And this isn't, there's really
no basis in this. But I believe in the Astros more than I believe in the Rangers. And I don't,
I don't really know why. That's just me being a slave to history. I don't know. I don't know.
Yeah, you can make arguments for either side.
I think Texas, it's tough because it was Houston starting pitching.
And their bullpen was blowing some tough games, like at the wrong time.
Yes, yes, yes.
Texas, it just felt like nothing was clicking for a little while,
and now it's starting to feel like things are.
I don't know.
I'd listen to either argument on that.
If you
Baseball reference does playoff odds
percentages
And I mean they are what they are
Like they're they're doing their best
It's a number
In the last seven days
The Kansas City Royals
Playoff odds have gone down 30%
In their calculation
That's a little bit of them coming down
That's a little bit of the socks coming
That's a little bit of Houston and Texas coming
And I mean
I think it's
Kansas City is a great baseball town.
They have top end talent on the lineup.
They've had some awesome pitching performance.
Before the season, if we were comparing Kansas City, Houston, Texas, heck even Boston,
we were leaning those teams that, I don't know,
I'm starting to, my yellow flag for Kansas City is starting to turn red.
Because if you like everything that's going on in Texas or hell the bean,
that means you can't like what's going on in Kansas City.
If Wyatt Langford continues to kind of work on this series and propels forward,
and then we get Evan Carter back and he starts going, that's a difference maker for me.
That's the length in the lineup that I like to see.
As far as the Royals, I said this from the get-go.
You know, they found gold in the starting pitching to start the year.
That was great for them.
They also were just crushing with runners in scoring position.
And over this road trip, I don't think I had it complete.
I was trying to do it while you were doing the burn.
there, they didn't hit, they haven't hit with runners in scoring position at all on the road trip.
I have three for, three for 30 in six games. I think I'm missing one game in there. Three for 30
runners and scoring position. That's how you take that step back. That's how you, you know,
let Minnesota jump in front of you in the standings. Like you, that's the name of the game, dude.
That's why the guardians have been able to do what they've been able to do. You have to hit
when you get runners on
and the Royals were doing that
with the best in the business
early on in the season
and you know that's going to take
it's going to regress to the mean at some point
and for them it's been this road trip
it's how you get sweat man
like that's just how you get sweat
and hey maybe we need to start being more schedule snobs again
because everyone is saying Houston's got
the easier part of their schedule coming
although they just played the Baltimore Orioles
but now if you give them that
with Colorado and the Mets, although, you know,
the Mets are one of the best teams this month.
What a sport, Trev, what a sport.
The Royals, there were some numbers after game one that Dahl has on here.
I mean, they lost now, what, I guess, 11 of their last 14 games?
That'll do it.
That's not good.
Yeah.
That'll do it.
It's all bad news out east.
Sounds like writing a war letter back home.
It's all bad news out east.
The Orioles got swept by that Houston team.
I don't know what you say.
Everything good about Houston would be the Orioles did not do that this weekend.
They don't care.
Like record's still fine.
Yankees, you got some of the pulse of Yankees Nation this weekend, Trev.
I complimented them and they were mad at me.
Yeah.
Like, okay.
That's where we're at.
Hey, you're guys are a rabid fan base.
I've never seen anything like it.
You just, you're from Minnesota.
You just expect average ball.
I'm like, what?
Yeah.
And another thing.
Check my stats at Yankees Stadium.
Second deck.
The Braves have sneaky been one of the best teams in baseball for, I don't know,
the last 14 days, something like that.
They're starting to win a lot of series.
The Yankees have lost three straight.
And then the Toronto Blue Jays.
Yo, L6, starting to get to a dark spot in the standings.
I think the fourth worst team in the American League.
What is going right for them?
Question mark.
Oh, and what you would say is going right for them,
Or Elvis Martinez, like kind of one of their next tier of prospects,
comes up.
First Major League hit, 80 game suspension for PEDs.
That's not good.
Said it was for fertility.
fertility drug in the Dominican.
Gotta get these things checked out.
Yeah, I would, again.
Just check it out.
I know what it's like to be young, and there's still days I act young, but I'd like
to think if I'm a ball player, I'm taking some fertility drugs.
You know they check to test you for ingredients.
I'd want to know.
I'd want to know.
So who do you want to rip a new first?
Your Yanks?
I think I'd rather give the Guardian some love for the sweep of the Blue Jets.
As you mentioned, the Blue Jays are, they're, you know, they haven't established an identity.
It's over.
It's over.
You look at their team and I want to like it, but they just haven't done anything.
It's over.
It's over.
This was supposed to be like a golden generation.
It's over.
And Toronto, beautiful city.
I want to come up there.
You're great things.
We spent time with a lot of people from the Toronto area this weekend.
It's a beautiful place.
Drake loss, though.
Is that what's going on?
Ooh, is this a Drake ripple effect?
I mean, Drake definitely lost.
There's all sorts of stuff on.
Did you see the Shaq Instagram story?
That was tough.
Kendrick out in L.A. doing his pop-up show was.
Six times?
Do you want to see Zach get out?
Guardians.
Yeah.
Guardians.
Guardians.
Now, this team is something else.
And every time I talk about him,
C. Rowe says it's not sustainable.
But I beg to differ because this series is exactly how they've been playing all year long.
All they do is get out to early leads and get the ball to their bullpen.
Now, this is dating myself, but I love to date myself.
I'd be a dream date.
Beat you too.
Oh, my, yeah.
Dating myself age-wise.
But, like, you know, think about, I always go back to this team because I played against him so much.
The Kansas City Rolls in 2014 and 15.
If you were down in the game and it was the sixth inning, you were going to lose the game.
And that's exactly what happens if you're down to the game against the Guardians.
They have the best bullpen in baseball, bar none.
They don't give up leads.
Claisse has been insane.
And look, they just, they score first.
go out and score first.
You got Kwan doing his thing.
I think people, once he gets qualified for the, you know,
is a qualified batter and he starts showing up a more stat pages,
people are going to start to understand the kind of season he's had.
You got Josh Naler continually hitting with, you know, big moments.
Obviously, Jose Ramirez doing his thing.
David Frye out of nowhere.
Like, they are, they just need to score first.
They just need to get out to leads.
And that's what they've been doing, man.
in this series is that's exactly what happened and like is that model sustainable like i think it
is dude like as long as you're you know resting the guys in the bullpen giving them ample days
off they have enough it's not like there's like two guys doing it you know like as long as
you're rotating and vote is i mean talk about stephen vote like he he this is the hand he was
dealt and i don't think that this is like the best hand in baseball by any means um
But he's playing it right.
So I'm a, I've been believing in the Guardians, man.
Like they're playing that good, like, take the extra base, play good defense,
and then just get the ball to that beautiful bullpen that you have.
And this is the way baseball's been going for quite some time.
It's just not everyone can do it.
Like the bullpen is fickle.
It changes it all the time.
Like, you know, you have to read the room in your bullpen to see who you can trust.
You really have to go with the hot hand.
hand and find out when the hot hand is starting to cool down mix a match it's nice to have a
couple guys at the back end who you can count on 100% but you know playing you know playing the
matchups the lanes all these things i mean it's what managers actually have to do during a game
it's like they're one thing that like they need to do is find the lanes figure all that out
when to get guys warm and voter as a catcher a former catcher fresh out the game like who knows
better than him and it's showing up man so guardie
are they're legit.
They're legit.
And I can't believe it, to be honest with you.
They got a fun week coming up.
They've got Orioles and Royals,
so we just talked about what's going on there.
But they've been one of the best teams all year,
and we haven't given them the proper respect.
And there's something amiss.
Like, you know, Chris Rose not fully bought in.
You know, you still look at some of the depths of that lineup,
And it's kind of like, wait, what's going on down there?
It doesn't matter.
Hasn't affected them.
Their run differential is crazy.
Like, there's no, if we threw out all of our predisposed dispositions, is that right?
Did I get that right?
Redisposed dispositions?
Predispositions.
Sounds like I didn't get it right.
and you just jumped into this season
you would say they're one of the best teams in baseball
so Ben lively
let's go
your guy your fingerprints are all over this league
Mike Tonkin
12 games
12 games started with a 303
Cole Irvin
Mike Tonkin
Ben lively
let's say it was a mentor to a lot of these guys
I don't think that's my calling in life
okay
I wasn't that good of a player but I can sure mentor
some dudes.
Ooh, calling in life is fun.
I like to think...
I can pump guys up.
I could do that.
I like to think I'm a symbol of like,
you'll figure something out.
Like, you know, I just...
I want to tell, like, the young kids, like,
hey, I...
If you're not great at homework, it's okay.
It's okay.
Like the...
If you put in some hard work and some effort,
like, that stuff goes a little further
than your pre-
recalc Trevor Plouf homework.
You know what I'm saying?
I like that.
You can still figure something out.
You figure it out.
Hard work.
I think we need to like
glamorize like trades in this country more.
Like we don't glamorize that.
We glamorize stupid, silly shit.
It doesn't.
Thank God.
Well, I mean, we're right now it looks like we're two hippies talking about baseball.
So maybe we're glamorizing the wrong stuff.
But I, people would laugh if,
the mics were on before this show
and we were
like, ah, nobody likes to work.
Hey!
Well, my mom wanted me to be a plumber.
We're around a lot of, like this weekend,
we're around a lot of young kids.
And a lot,
a lot of them are just like,
I don't know what I'm going to do.
And that's okay.
But we have some examples of some young kids
who just like gotten an opportunity
and run with it.
And really, I don't know.
We can't, we can't go
to this right now, Pop. We can't. Sorry.
Anything about the East. It's the third
time I've asked you.
The East?
I think there's three great teams
out there in the AL East. I really do.
I think the Yankees are a great team.
I think the Orioles are a great team. I think the Red Sox
are really coming. I think that they're one
of the teams that's like taking advantage of the new
rules, understanding about
athleticism on the field and putting pressure
and I guess.
Here's my question about the Red Sox. And maybe Red Sox fan.
do Red Sox fans listen to the show?
I don't know.
Okay, they do.
I'm big in Boston.
You are big in Boston.
Okay.
This is all Himes' roster.
Right?
So we just didn't give Hymne enough time, and maybe Hymne just didn't hire Andrew Bailey in time.
Because that's been the difference, right?
Like, they brought these guys up.
Tyler O'Neill.
I guess they brought in Tyler O'Neill, so that's not Himes guy.
not Heim's guy
and that gets up for everything else
everything else
is Heim's guys
and then Bailey comes and fixes the pitching staff
and here we are
just in one fell swoop
he's like here
he sprinkled some
fucking magic dust and spring training
and here we are
but there are fun team
I'll say this
I like watching the Orioles
in the Red Sox better than like watching the Yankees
that's going to get me hate clicks
I'm sorry I don't mean like to hate against the Yankees
I just enjoy
that type of ball.
I like watching the Yankees too.
I shouldn't have said that.
Gosh darn.
Yeah, that was slightly ugly.
I know what you were going for.
I mean, the Yankees.
I don't.
I like, I really enjoy watching the Yankees.
I think they are very, I've told you this off air many times.
This is a great year of baseball for the Yankees.
They're doing everything I like with an organization.
They went out and made shit happen.
And I love that.
They're literally the Bronx bombers.
Like it's Judge Soto.
It was standing.
who he gets his first IL stint,
so watch out for that.
It was supposed to be Rizzo who really struggled
and now he's on the IL.
You know, the Yankees were leading the league in homers
for a long time.
That, like, they were doing it kind of the old school Yankee way.
Not a ton of youth on the field,
not a ton of athleticism.
And like those other teams,
that's kind of how they're doing it offensively
and defensively.
The Orioles just bang the ball around too.
They do everything.
I think I just love Gunner Henderson
I do love Anthony Volpe
I love watching him play
We're gonna talk about short subs later in the show
There was a tweet that was like Gunner Henderson's on pace
For a 12 and a half war season
He's insane dude
He's insane everything just looks solid
Like it's you look at him
You look at him like oh yeah
That's what it's supposed to look like
Did you bury the Blue Jays or no
You were one of you call him dead
I'm not calling him dead
But dude they ain't alive
I am
I am
It's over.
Treve, you just said you liked three other AL East teams.
And I bet you like the rays more than the Blue Jays.
It's over.
Dude, I think Vladdy, let me double check,
but I think Vladdy, like, gets paid paid.
Like, I think because he's been around so long
and he's won awards that, like,
I think he makes close to 20 mil this year.
Really?
He's making 19.9.
Like, it's not like we're on cheap,
contracts right now.
What does that do with anything, though?
He's actually been playing very well lately.
What are you getting at with that?
He's been solid.
He's been solid.
I think since like the end of May he's been great or since early May.
7-7-4 OPS.
So, hey, I hope he's trending up.
But I don't know.
Bichette is hurt and played poorly this year when he was out there.
You look at the rest of the lineup.
And you're like, what is this?
And I was banking on their pitching, being special.
And it's been fine, but not enough for this, that we got to retool this whole thing.
Because it's not working and the Orioles aren't going anywhere.
Maybe my Yanks are, but that's kind of not their history.
He buried him.
Oh, bury my mentions.
Can I tell you about, Trev, this is a big one
and something I think I'm going to start using a lot.

Go somewhere.
It's summer.
It's what it's about, man.
I want to go.
We've got a lot of National League.
A lot of National League.
Let's get to it.
How about a little NLCS rematch?
Arizona Diamond and...
backs in the Philadelphia Phillies.
The D-backs, they take game one.
Jordan Montgomery. The Fulmonte is back, but here come
the Phillies. Zach Wheeler, 7-1,
and the boys put up a 12 spot.
Sorry, Tommy Henry.
And then Christopher Sanchez, how's your extension
really long?
Because he's tall.
He got paid.
So that's pretty good.
We'll talk about them a little bit. I see a David
Dahl, early talking baseball settler.
Trev, you're San Francisco Giants.
Go talk to someone because they get swept by the St. Louis Cardinals, north of 500.
We are balling out.
Sunny Gray couldn't stop if he wanted to.
How are your thick boys in Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson?
I haven't seen them in the same room, yet they're on the same team.
Confusing to me.
And Mason Wynn, man.
That guy's got, I don't know what it is.
Mason Wynn hasn't.
Giants.
Yo.
The Milwaukee Brewers, they lose three out of four to the San Diego Padres.
Okay, the Padres, they take the first three games.
Kind of a bad series to be a starting pitcher besides Tobias Myers in that last game.
But it's always good to be Manny Machado.
A couple big days at the office for him.
My hat buddy, Jake Croninworth.
The kid Jackson Merrill, three for three with a homer in that third game.
Brewer salvage the series in that final one.
Haven't seen the Brewers lose?
A lot of series.
And the Padres, they get one against a good team.
Can they get the good juice for like an extended period of time?
The Grimets, Treves.
You saw it.
You were out here.
Mets fever is sweeping the country.
And it happens again to those Chicago Cubs, and they get to Shoda.
Ten earn runs against Imanaga.
James and Tyone rings the bell in that second game.
But on Sunday night baseball, Seve and the boys get it done against the Cubbies.
The Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball in June.
The Cubbies, they keep struggling.
Treve'll tell you about the Boston Red Sox, my Boston Red Sox.
And they played my Reds and they took two out of three.
They dropped the first game.
Chamer Candelario, two home or day.
I think in his first two at bats too.
But the Sox kids, they come back.
Connor Wong, Sharon Duran, Bobby Ref Snyder.
I don't know.
But they know.
They keep winning baseball games.
They are currently in the playoffs.
The Tampa Bay Rays are not,
but they just took two out of three from.
the Pittsburgh Pirates who say they're buying.
They say we're all in.
Chips on the table.
Rays win the bread games of this series.
Josh Lowe, God, when he runs into one, that ball goes.
Former Yankee great Ben Wirtbeth.
And you know Jose Siri was involved in the win.
That's all he does.
Jared Jones, he's the pitcher the day they win.
He also caught Willie in the fate.
Or not Willie.
Scary moment.
He gets Rosario in the face.
You hate to see that with a hunch.
Paul Skeen's Day, put the raise win.
Three to one.
Mariners and the Marlins.
Marlins are just doing the damn thing lately, and I forgot that your fingerprints are all over that coaching staff.
Tim Anderson, walk off.
Yeah, they are.
John Jay?
Yeah, they are.
Tim Anderson, walk off piece.
The game the Mariners,
win low guilt eight shut piece dominic canzon and ryan bliss popping around the yard uh but like i said
jesus sancho nick gordon and jazz chishol and the boys they can't be stopped dodgers in the halo split two
games uh what you need to know glass now good and show hey homering against his old team classic
and then america's team i think it's official the washington nationals they take two out of three
against the Rockies.
You're going to tell the people about C.J. Abrams.
The only way they can lose these days is to the pitch clock.
Rockies take, Nats take the other two games.
That's what happened in the National League.
Just, way to battle through it right there.
That voice is going.
Constantine.
Bad case of warehouse in actually being sick.
Should I have played floorball games this weekend and a heat wave?
Probably not.
Yes, you should have.
I'm that guy.
That's called grit.
Jamie Carroll will be so proud of you this weekend.
Do you want the standings in the National League?
Your fingerprints are not on John Jay?
You said the entire coaching staff.
I only know John Jay.
You and Skip Schumacher?
He's Cuban.
You know I love him.
You and Skip Schumacher when it'd have a good day together.
I don't know.
Possibly.
Give me the standings.
What are we doing in that day, golfing?
I probably would hate it.
Anyways, you want the standings, Poppitz Monday.
We're starting out west.
The Dodgers, 48 and 31, 8 and a half games up on those 500 Padres, 41 and 41 for them.
38 and 40 for your snakes, 36 and 42 as the Giants get swept.
And then the Rocks, 27 and 51.
In the central, Milwaukee hanging on to that lead, 45 and 33.
The Cardinals on the come up, though, 39 and 37.
five games back. The buying Pittsburgh
Hyrits, who they said, they want to go out and do it early.
I've been saying that. We're in lockstep.
37 and 40. They're three games under, but they know what they got in that
pitching staff. I like it. There's seven and a half games back right behind them
of the Chicago Cubs at 37 and 41. And right behind them,
the Cincinnati Reds at 36 and 41. Somebody make a move
in that division. It's difficult out east. Is that what you
said before in the show? I don't know.
The Phillies with the best record in baseball.
Give that tall alien-looking Chris Sanchez some money, baby.
51 and 26, there's seven games ahead of the Atlanta Braves who are 43 and 32, and then
it's the Nats, 38 and 39, the Mets, 37 and 39, and then the Marlins who are hot, and my
fingerprints are not on them. They're 27 and 50, and the wild card is a, it's ridiculous.
Atlanta's got the first one.
St. Louis is one game up for the second wild card.
And then the Padres right now at 41 and 41 are in the playoffs.
So the only teams above 500, we get six of them now.
They're all in the playoffs.
And then we got one, two, three, four, or five, six, seven teams within three games
of that last wild card spot with the Giants being the last at 36 and 42.
Washington, only a half game back.
America's team.
America's team.
Literally. Wow.
Trev, phenomenal standings.
And I do want to give, you know, some love to the good people that tune into this program.
A, thank you guys always so much.
B, subscribe on the YouTube if you're not.
And C, to the gentleman who tweeted out the picture of Christopher Sanchez signing his contract.
Next to Dave Dumbrausky.
Standing next to Dave Dumbrauss.
who's taller...
I'll get his name.
I'll get his name.
Who's taller than Trey Turner.
We need...
I mean, look, we knew it, but we just needed some...
That Christopher Sanchez, who's listed at 6.1...
Yeah.
...is very clearly at least 6.5?
What happened?
That's what I want to know.
When did the growth spurt happen?
Like, are those...
Okay. This was...
I believe it's Cole Davis.
Cole D. 523
on Twitter.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Anything for Philly snakes?
Phillies regrain.
Regain.
There's the pick.
And yeah, Dombrough.
I think Dombrose is what?
Look at Samfold.
That's Sam, oh, God.
Fingerprints all over the Phillies.
Who's that guy in the left?
That is agent?
Or is that me?
Yeah, there they all are.
Wow.
There's Chris Sanchez next to Dave Dom.
That's not his agent.
That's somebody.
I know that guy.
Is that the owner?
No.
No.
Middleton's jacked.
He was busy that day.
Okay.
Trevor, your Phillies are back as the best record in baseball.
They slow down the snakes who have been playing some better ball of late.
Your guy Jeff Bannister gets ejected in this one after a pitch,
pitch clock violation.
I guess the biggest thing that was going around in the baseball world about the Phillies,
they have the top three starting pitchers in National League ERA right now
with Ranger Suarez leading the way Wheeler and Nola.
Qualify.
There's a couple guys that are close that aren't qualified just yet.
But yeah, no, that's, it's been a strength of that.
There's along with, you know, a bunch of other things.
I mean, they're just playing good baseball.
They really are.
I don't know where I was going with that.
I had a thought in my mind and it just completely escaped.
First game, you got to give credit to the debacks.
They go out and they score early.
There's a big moment with Bryce Harper.
He's got a chance to do it.
He gets hits into a one, two, three double play to extinguish the threat.
But then they come out and bang the ball around the next day, 12 to 1, answer back.
Sanchez comes out first game after signing.
the contract, get on him. They went four to one. And it's kind of just, it's what they do.
I mean, it's very difficult, I think, to slow this offense down for a series. And then if they're
getting their pitching like they have been, what are you going to do? I mean, the Phillies look like,
I mean, they look like a World Series team. And that's what they are. I got a, I got a weird
clickbait type question. Okay. If we said, if we were
trying to make a perfect MLB.
Like our dream for Major League Baseball.
Okay.
Would we say the ideal team we'd love to see everyone copy as the Phillies?
Like we're extending guys who are succeeding for us.
We're giving some young guys shots.
And when they achieve, we're taking care of them, while we're also doing a lot of our
business in free agency and bringing.
in the big pieces when we want.
I would say, I mean, who are like their homegrown guys?
That's the only thing I would say is I think a lot, I prefer a mix of everything.
Right.
I mean, it's Alec Bome.
Alec Bome's great.
Love that.
Great reference there, obviously.
No, Nola.
Annabels, or Annable Sanchez.
Chris.
Christopher Sanchez.
Let's see.
Okay.
I mean, I guess that's enough.
Rice and Stott?
Are you, I don't know what your question is, really.
It just feels like they do it in every way plus having a big budget.
So like they are, they're extending guys if they need to extend them.
They're signing for agents if they need to assign them.
They've traded for guys.
They've traded for Marsh.
They traded for Rural Mudo.
Like, I don't know.
It just feels, it feels like they run a franchise if we were rich guys trying to run a
successful baseball team.
Agreed. I mean, it's like, it's them and the Dodgers. You have to have the
homegrown talents. You have to have the scouting and development to do it. I think the
Dodgers are probably still the gold standard with all of that stuff. If you talk to people
around the game, they're like, okay, this is what they're doing in the minor leagues.
We're trying to figure out how they're doing it.
So, yeah, yeah. I mean, the fact that you are willing to make trades, you have a guy like
Dave Dombrovsky that's like, yeah, I'm going to trade. And the fact that, yeah, we're
going to spend money in free agency. We're going to lock up guys who we think are giving us the
right effort. Like, yeah, it's, if you're a Philly's fan, like, you're locked in right now.
Like, this is, for the foreseeable future, you're going to be able to root for a team that you
can be absolutely proud of. And, and, I mean, how many fan bases, I guess, can say that.
So to your point, yeah, it's, how about that for a clickbait? How many, how many, how many,
how many fan bases are proud of their team?
Wow. Now we're talking.
I would venture out to say it's less than 10
proud of their team
like proud of the way that things are going
the future the present like how like everything
I'm getting dizzy just thinking about that
we might have to pocket that for a midweek at some point
okay um my bad
no it's it's brilliant save that for August
that's brilliant um
speaking of brilliant I mean we a little teaser
we have some cardinals love
coming up later in the program, which is exciting for Cardinals fans.
They sweep the Giants.
They are above 500 and in the playoffs.
And well, hell.
In the National League right now, that makes you the fifth best team.
And I don't know.
Maybe more of the story is unfortunately on the other side where the Giants,
Giants are in a bad place, man.
Hasn't been a ton of winning baseball in San Francisco since the last.
one magic season.
Yeah, there's
stuff going on the internet about like what
happened in that magical season with Gabe
Kaptur, what really was going down.
I'll speak on the Cardinals a little bit.
Obviously they got some great
pitching performances, one by
Sonny Gray who took the perfect game in before
Slater hits the bomb off him.
In that game, he was 16 of 22
of first pitch strikes. He's been talking about
attacking and remembering that
he has to do that. After
the game. He said there was a 3-1 count where he's like, okay, took a step back, deep breath.
I'm going to throw the ball down the middle and see what happens. And when you got like 17
pitches like Sunny Gray does, you can do that because guys can't sit on anything.
So he's just been incredible. And there's, every time I'm out on Sunny Gray, I'm thinking like,
okay, like it's going to come down. Like he just gets better. And he's one of the guys.
It's very good for baseball. It's very good for a clubhouse. He's funny.
like he
he works hard
helps people with their routines
like he just kind of does everything right
he's a leader which is awesome
he's a vandy boy just like you
the Cardinals 24 and 13 since May 12th
it's the best in the NL
the Cardinals
people I don't think people
I don't think we started giving credit to them
like until what
like last week
well dude it because it hasn't
happened how if the Cardinals
Cardinals came out of what's been going on with them the past year and a half,
we thought it would be like, okay, Goldie returns to his MVP form.
He's 231, 299, and a 662 OPS.
Nolan Aeronado, okay, the other guy that you would have been like, well, he's probably
back to his MVP ways.
257, 315, a 686 OPS.
Like, we always knew there was a chance to car.
Cardinals were going to kick in a gear, but we didn't think it was going to look like this.
And now that it has, if those other things kick in a gear, the Cardinals will reenter the chat as like, wait, this was a franchise that was a great franchise for the past decade.
Yeah.
So, like, they have the pieces there.
Like, Helsey's been, like, incredible.
Yeah.
Like, they have the back end of the bullpen.
Their starters have been, by and large, great.
And then the offense, yeah, it's taken some time.
and win has been great for them.
What's interesting is there's just an article that came out.
Shout out to our guy, Eno Seris,
and I believe is also Jason Stark.
They wrote it for the athletic,
and it was talking about like hitting.
It's down this year.
And why is it down?
Let's talk to some people.
And two of the guys they interviewed
and with big quotes in this article were Nolan Aeronado
and Paul Goldschmidt.
And they're saying what I've been saying all along.
It's like the pitchers now can just make.
make adjustments so quickly and everyone is learning how to, you can, they're learning how to have plus stuff.
Yelich had like the best quote I've ever seen in an article like they really encompassed it.
And it's why hitters are just like, what the hell are we?
It's hard right now.
Yeah.
He goes, guys used to have pitches before we had the data on every single pitch that you threw.
He goes, guys used to throw pitches that just weren't good.
And they didn't know
because they didn't know
that they weren't good pitches.
They were, you know,
quote unquote,
dead zone pitches.
Now, if you throw a pitch
that's not a good pitch,
they don't let you throw it anymore.
And they say,
don't throw that pitch.
It's a bad pitch.
Like,
you need either,
you know,
vertical depth or horizontal,
like,
it has to be somewhere.
It can't be in the middle of the plot.
So,
like, guys just aren't throwing
those pitches anymore, dude.
Like,
throwing bad pitches anymore.
And they might not have the greatest command of some other pitch.
But they're not throwing just meatballs, essentially.
Velot training's gone up.
Like, every guy throws three different fastballs right now.
So you can't really just hone in on a heater.
But it's a really good article.
I don't want to get away too much of it.
You should definitely go read.
I think the athletic subscription is probably the,
well, it's the only subscription I think I have.
really good.
But yeah, so Goldie and Aeronado talking about that
how hard it is, but these are two
like the hardest working guys in baseball,
guys, they'll figure it out.
And if they start banging the way they can,
combining that with everything else
that the Cardinals have going for them,
and if Ali Marmal gets the hell out of the way,
like we, I've been believing in this team
stupidly for a couple years,
even all throughout last year,
But this is more of kind of what I expect from them with the roster that they have.
Because they have a lot of talented players on this freaking team, dude.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yes.
I'm fascinated to see the next steps.
This is a team that, you know, the reports last year was everyone was looking around at each other.
Like, why are, we're a good baseball team.
Why is our record so terrible that them have, um,
Them having some good juice could be huge for them.
They are hosting the Braves, who have been hot, just took down the Yanks.
And then they've got a nice little, oh, they got a, like this is what I love.
St. Louis, it's all in front of you, but I don't know how it's going to play out.
Because look at this.
Four against the Cincinnati Reds, let's find out.
Three against Pittsburgh.
Let's find out.
Four against the nationals.
I'm not betting on those games.
Royals, and then they wrap up with the Chicago Cubs,
which I would say I'd take them over the Cubbies right now,
but you've got six series in front of you,
St. Louis Cardinals fans, to like,
grab a seat at the table.
Please.
Please.
Separate yourself from those teams.
But, yeah, they're,
are they so much better are they a tier ahead of any of those teams they should be they can be
they should be they should be but we're a gnats pod so um giants fans Elliot Ramos we know he
exists he's a stud yeah we know are they selling I don't know man how far back are they right now
I just had the standings up I mean technically three games out technically three were
They're going to sell?
Who are they going to sell?
Matt Chapman?
Maybe.
Maybe.
Player options, right?
Yeah.
After this year.
Trev.
God, there was a lot of ball this weekend.
No wonder we were hyped up, dude.
I'm still fired up.
I don't even, you know, we kind of talked about the Red Sox already because you're so hot
to trot on them.
The Mets are out here, which if we're doing the standings, the two next series are
San Diego wins a big one over the brewers for them, three out of four,
while the Mets win another series about the Cubs.
And I know we've got a little more on them later.
So whatever you want, Big Dog.
Credit to San Diego is not an easy series,
but they came out and look, man, the usual suspects.
Like this is the team, we want, like you said before,
like do this for an extended period of time.
I talked to our guy Ryan Cohen, and he's like, man, you guys are so tough on the Padres.
I was like, yeah, well, we want them to be good.
We expect them to be good, but they just, you know,
have had such like a start and stop season.
It's not even a roller coaster.
It's just like start, stop, start, stop.
And this is a great springboard series.
If you go take three out of four from the Brewers,
like I had a chance to sweep them,
like this is what it's about.
So I'm happy for them.
I want to see them keep going.
I'll be in San Diego.
I'm calling the games against the twins.
I'm bringing my son's youth.
youth team down there.
Me and Tyler Waite are just talking all the time in the DMs.
I like this team a lot, dude.
I do.
This team and the Red Sox are the teams I'm like,
they should just be way better and they're going to go on a run.
Like I fully expect the Padres to go to run and make moves to continue to go on runs.
I'm buying Padre's stock like, like,
I'm almost guaranteeing it's going to go like this for them.
I need to stop looking at schedules because here's your Padres.
Nat's America's team.
At your Red Sox.
At Texas.
At Texas.
At Texas.
Snakes.
Mariners, Braves.
So.
Go show it.
I'm in.
I'm buying in.
I've bought in on the Padres.
Didn't I say this last year?
Or no, I said the period of time of like the All-Star game to the trade deadline.
I was looking for a cool phrase.
Oh.
Did we land on one?
We kept saying treadline, but the whole time we were like,
We're calling it this, but we don't like it.
It feels like we've got an extended treadline.
Okay.
And we still just need a cooler term for it.
Sound off in the comments.
Good for you, Padres.
But yeah, you're treadlining.
So are the Mets, I guess.
I was talking about the Mets a little bit later.
I was excited for them to sell.
I just, I don't know.
I don't know.
I think it is interesting if we move on,
raise, take two or three for the pirates,
but the owner comes out and says,
we're going to make moves.
We want to make them earlier or sooner than later.
Like take advantage of this.
This is exactly what I said.
Like, hey, if you're a team, like, go be first.
Like, why are we waiting?
Why are we waiting?
Like, show your fan base, show your roster.
Like, yeah, we believe in you.
Like, let's not like, wait.
Oh, I'm not sure if we're going to be in contention.
There's these, dude, go do it now.
Go cement your contention status.
Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And this is all.
Think about this.
This is all because Paul Skeens and Jared Jones.
Yeah, a little bit.
Mitch Keller.
No, it's all, no.
Mitch Keller's been there, bro.
Yeah, but adding these two guys, I get what you're saying.
Add these guys, oh, you can, well, barely faltered too.
He's been great.
Nice.
Add those two guys to the mix, and you're talking about, like, national media attention.
You're talking about, you know, moving Paul Skell's starts back so we could pitch in pits,
like it's a different feeling there and they know exactly what they need and go get some offense.
I'm excited for the pirates and pirates fans over the next couple of years.
And hopefully they make the right moves this year and they are really in the playoff mix
because that would be really fun to see them in the playoffs rolling out those three or four guys.
And you know what Yanni Diaz said?
First pitch of the game, Paul Skeen's Hock Tua.
Get out of here, bro.
We tried to pull it and then fucking hit it off the right field.
A little late, but he got there.
Whoops.
I've been there.
Put the barrel on it.
I think you hear it in my voice.
I'm kind of good if you're ready to go to standouts.
I'm good.
There's more to.
What?
I'm going to talk about CJ Abrams, too, I think.
Did I get to talk about CJ Abrams?
Am I talking about CJ Abrams?
Okay, okay, I have to talk about CJ Adams because I'm not talking about the rest of the show.
I looked at his baseball reference page, and I was like, what the freak?
Like, he's having a great offensive season.
Yeah.
Okay.
He's at 2-3 war right now.
Like, that seems like a little lower.
Halfway through the mark, he's been playing better than that.
I'm expecting like a 3-5 out of him or something like that.
270 hours.
He's got 12 bombs already.
Okay.
So 320 on-base percentage, that'll come.
It's not there yet.
4-96 slug.
though. So he's got an 817 OPS,
134 OPS plus,
11 stolen bases.
I'm like, what is happening?
Right.
Like this war doesn't line up.
Then I went on his savant page
and he's in the first
percentile
for outs above average
and fielding run value.
He's got negative 10
outs above average.
and it doesn't add up.
I've watched this guy play a lot.
And he looks like a sound shortstop out there.
So I guess Nationals fans let me know
or somebody that understands these metrics,
let me know.
Is his range really that limited?
I've heard, like, to the left is the problem for him,
which is shocking because usually that's the better side
for most short stops.
the arm is like
it's not like a bad arm
like what's the problem here
he's only made five errors on the year
like he's getting
I feel like when I watch him
like he makes all the place
he's not like a
guy that's gonna throw the ball away
or make dumb decisions
like he seems like a
like at the very least
an average
to slightly above average
defensive short stuff
but the metrics
are not showing that
what the fuck is going
I don't think I've mentioned catcher war needs to be changed a little bit.
I think there needs to be a little booster button.
I think shortstop war, however they're doing it defensively or somewhere else.
He's the worst shortstop in the game, according to the defensive metrics.
That's not, it's crazy.
National fans, you let us know.
Like, are we just missing it?
Or do we just have 27 banger shortstops and he just happens to?
to be the worst one.
We know there's ways to cook the books defensively war-wise.
You've talked about it.
Yes, there is.
I need to get him in touch with Mark Simon, my guy.
He should chat with Trey.
He started standing in a different spot, too.
Right now, and I know this guy was a target in Yankee land unfairly for way too long,
I KF has a two and a half war season going.
I know what he looks like defensively at shortstop.
I know he's moved around.
What C.J. Abrams is doing this year, I think 30 out of 30 teams would prefer.
Yeah, I don't, I don't understand what the, what it is.
So, I mean, I guess, look, his range isn't as good as anybody else's?
That's kind of crazy. I don't know.
He's an alien.
I had to get that by chest as I was looking at it. This doesn't make any sense.
Well, something you need to put on your chest is Mando.
People, we smell a lot.
lot of stuff this weekend. It was hot. It was a heat wave. You got a Mando up. Full body deodorant.
We're talking back, cracks, balls, anything that smells bad. Let's take care of that. And you can take care of that with Mando.
They loaded up our office and thank Gort. We have a lot of young growing boys here that needed to get Mando.
And so they, yes, so they've decked out our office.
They got the solid stick deodorant, cream tube deodorant.
That comes in their starter pack along with two free products of your choice,
like the deodorant wipes, the mini body wash, and free shipping.
So not only with that, but we also have a 40% off.
Oh, you get 40% off all in when you use code talking and get their.
starter packet. Shop Mando.com. S-H-O-M-A-N-D-O.com. There's a link in the description.
It's hot. It's worth trying out. You're sweating. Get your Mando on. It's a little bit of a game
changer. So that's code talking. Click the link. Thank you Mando. And let's see our standout.
I told you I was going to go with Sunny Gray as my standout.
Then I started talking about it a little too much.
I was wondering.
That's my bad.
It's my bad.
I picked another one real quick right now.
We talked a lot about the Houston Astros and the usual suspects and typical Astros winning baseball is what I said.
We didn't really go too far into our guy, Alex Bregman.
So I'm going to give Alex Bregman my standout.
He went four for four with the double and two runs scored.
yesterday's game.
Where's this?
There it is.
The Astros,
like they need their centerpieces
to be their centerpieces.
And since May 26,
so we're going about a calendar month here.
101ABs,
36 hits.
He's hitting 356.
He's got the on base percentage
at 409, 594 slug.
He's one dotting it over the last calendar month.
Five homers,
13 runs driven in.
this is who he is people
this is who he's going to be
probably the rest of the season
and that's why the Astros are going to be in it
even though most people
don't want them to be
they don't care what you want
they don't care and I've called
when they were struggling
I called for him to be traded so they could trade him
that seems like an Astros thing to do
but now that they're they're back in it
they're not trading him.
They'll take the qualifying offer.
They'll get the pick for him.
That's it.
Like, he's staying.
He's going to go play out this year, one last hurrah, the last dance, whatever it is.
But Bregman's been going on.
So I wanted to give him my standout performance.
He's a great one.
The 108 OPS Plus, like thinking about where he was a little bit ago in a contract year.
His numbers are going to land right where they're going to land.
And at age, May 25th, the day before I started this, he was hitting two.
to 204, 270, 319 for a 590 OPS.
He's risen those numbers all the way up to a 732 OPS.
He's here, and that whole team might be here, which,
watch out Seattle, watch out Yankees, watch out Guardians,
watch out whole American League.
The Big Bad Wolf might be coming.
I need to see a little more.
Get me over 500, and then I'm all in.
What do you need to see?
Get me over 500.
Give me over 500.
It's not a big ask.
Okay.
It's not a big ask.
I'm almost there.
I'm just not ready to finish yet.
Danny Margo?
Mani Margo?
Jose Miranda?
Stop it.
Oh, Pablo Lopez, 14K.
Stop it.
What do you even talk about my twins?
Stop it.
Ben RoartVett.
Saly ober.
Complete game.
Cardinals, I'm looking for teams to give love to.
You guys are currently doing it in the National League.
And I mentioned the guys you'd expect to be doing it.
Kind of ain't.
No, who has been, Trev?
Beefy.
Alec Burleson.
It's in his name.
He's a burly guy.
And this weekend, he put up a two-home or night at the office with a stolen base.
Okay?
I smell you, Alec.
He, if you go to baseball reference
and you look at the St. Louis Cardinals,
and you look at their starting nine.
I'm looking at him right now.
You know, it sorts out by who's played the most games and stuff.
So like Wilson Contreras technically is not listed as their catcher
because he's only played 31 games.
Reminder, St. Louis is doing this without Wilson Contreras.
He's almost back too, because he's a fast,
Healer.
Yeah, sure is.
I think he may be coming back tonight?
Sure is a quick healer.
The highest OPS plus.
He grew up drinking goat milk.
You know what I mean?
Like the milk, is that a real thing, you think?
Why not?
I don't know.
I didn't drink any milk and I broke this bone, my ribs.
I'm a loser.
AJ Pollock.
Your best OPS Plus, which means your best OPS on the St. Louis Cardinal's
starting lineup is Alec Burleson.
Meaty, 25 years old, East Carolina boys, sure.
And yeah, I think him,
him, Nolan Gorman, Brendan Donovan,
I mean, him and especially Brendan Donovan.
If you're not tuning into Cardinals games,
like you see both of those big meaty guys at the plate
and you're like, wait, is that?
which one
Did you even mention
Pedro Pahes?
Who wins in a fight?
Go easy.
Go easy on Pedro Pajas.
I don't want to see that.
Pedro 6-1-2-45.
I don't want to see that scene in the showers.
That's all I'm saying.
That I don't know.
I think all these guys get jumbled together a little bit.
And Alex Burleson has kind of given them some stability.
If I remember correctly,
double-check's note.
I mean, he's been their two-hole hitter,
the majority of the games.
I'm guessing they slide him down against lefties sometimes.
But otherwise, in the month of June,
your two-hole hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals has been Alec Burles.
Getting it done, he ripped up the whole San Francisco Giants series
with a 7-for-11, 7 RBI, and three stolen bases.
So, yeah, I want to give my guy some love.
I keep looking at this roster.
I keep liking it.
Are you looking and you're a liking?
The starting pitching scares me.
I'm sorry, Givie, I love you so much.
The Fips aren't exactly where you'd want them to be,
except for Sunnies, he's doing it.
Let me paint a picture.
Okay, pin.
Ring, ring, ring, ring.
Hello.
Hey, it's the St. Louis.
Well, it's the St. Louis Cardinals.
That's why I'm calling you the Detroit Tigers.
Oh, hey, St. Louis Cardinals.
How are you doing?
We just want to bring an old friend home
Are you just talking about Jack Flaherty
Sure, we signed him to a one-year deal
Would you give us some prospects for him?
Because we're not going to compete this year
Yeah, but no high-level prospects
Because it's only a couple months of Jack Flaherty
Click
I blew it
I watched Draft Day with Kevin Costner
No, it's nuts, I haven't
Are you serious?
Yeah.
Jake.
Everyone said it was awful.
It's like not a fucking...
Right.
It's not going to win an Academy Award, dude, but it's right up here.
Well, it's such a...
That's a good not actually.
I have learned that in my life, Jake.
I don't care what everybody...
Especially...
That's not true.
I do care what people say.
I do.
I take that into consideration.
It's not my end-all-be-all.
With movies?
and music?
I could give a shit what somebody says.
I need to see it for myself.
Like, that's such a personal thing.
You're right.
I was pretty mad at a couple of my buddies.
They said the movie semi-pro wasn't funny.
And then I watched semi-pro and I was losing it.
So it turns into expectations and stuff a little bit.
But speaking to expectations,
people probably expected us to give it to Colt Keith for his forehead outing.
Oh, Jimmy Norp?
Oh, God.
Chas McCormick, stop leaving him out of that Houston conversation.
Hunter Glass now has just been, he's incredible.
It can always be Lane Thomas, but it wasn't.
But let's get to the best part of the show.
Dirt Nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
I'm not doing it anymore, Pop.
I am.
Maybe I should today.
And Fueo, it's a great, great part of the app
And we're going to start out in Tampa Bay
Of course we are Josh Lowe
He went six for 11, 546 average, a double two homers
Five runs driven in a stolen base to boot
And that was in three games versus Pittsburgh
Where they took two out of three schemes
What?
Yeah. Skine's hot
No, he's not he's not hot
We talked about this guy already
CJ Abrams 6 for 14, 429 average
Three doubles, a homer three runs driven in
with the Stolm Base, but I guess he can't play shortstop.
Yeah.
What are we doing here?
My goodness.
For the week, I'm going to be talking about these guys maybe a little later in the show,
but the New York Mets catcher, Francisco Alvarez, you want 11 for 22?
Quick, what was that average?
Seven for, uh, oh, 11 for 22.
Oh, 500.
Boom.
Yeah.
Three doubles, two homers, six runs driven in, three runs, and four walks.
He has the highest average in baseball over the last week with at least 20.
Played appearances.
Oh, this is, this is scary.
This one, it's scary.
Outfield of Nick Castellanos is getting hot.
11 for 23, 4-Double.
Do you think Nick Castellanos cares what somebody says about a movie?
Oh, my God.
You think he cares about anybody's opinions?
He doesn't.
He's never asked about a movie.
He does not.
Four doubles, two homers, eight runs driven him.
Castianos recorded his first five RBI game
since June 2nd, 20203,
and his second time overall with the Phillies.
How about
Wyatt Langford?
The kid.
Out down there in Texas.
Speaking of Texas.
I just got that ad that we did
for the All-Star game. Lookout.
White Langford, he's getting it going, people,
and that's a welcome sign for the Rangers.
Eight for 22 in the week.
That's three doubles, two homers,
10 runs driven in a walk,
a hit by pitch, and a stolen base for the 1.1.
And this is the list that you want to be on.
Brian Reynolds is always like just good.
Wish you talked more, dude.
Like wish he just kind of like wanted us to have something to talk about.
I don't know.
Vandy, back off.
Maybe he is and he just doesn't want to let everyone know.
I respect that.
Honestly, only time I've heard his voices when he asked for that trade
and then he got the contract out of that whole thing.
So it speaks when it benefits him.
It worked.
I kind of love that.
How you just put that, Bieber,
you kind of just put me on his side.
So thank you for that.
16 for 46 in these two weeks.
Four doubles, a triple, four homers,
eight runs driven in, eight runs scored.
His hit streak is tied with Nate McLeod
from the Pirates' longest hit streak
in the last 20 years.
Shout out Nate McClough.
Sneaky Gold Glove winner as well.
I think he won it with the Orioles, though.
Great fantasy player.
Renel Blanco.
Yeah.
obviously.
Three games started 20 innings
pitched in those three games.
Only seven hits, only two earned runs,
20Ks to seven walks.
That's a 0.7 whip.
His 0.9 ERA and 104 average
are the best marks among starting pitchers
over the last two weeks.
104 averaged against.
The change app is back.
It's so sexy.
Yeah. I never understood
what pitchers really.
I can't do a right on right change.
Well, yes, you can, bro.
Stop being so,
Pitchers are so soft.
Except if you're a reliever, then I respect you.
Colin Poshay, seven games.
Two holds seven and two-thirds innings pitch in those seven games.
Only two hits.
Seven K's, one walk.
That's a point three-nine whip over his last seven games.
And my friends, that is who's in fuego.
Incredible stuff, Trev.
I talk myself in and out of the race getting in the mix this season.
I just don't know.
No.
Agreed.
Like they've got some guys back
and they weren't getting bullpen early on.
They're starting to get a couple performances out there.
I have no clue.
I talked, this is off the mark a little bit here.
This guy named Kickball Dad.
He's going to be, I don't think that's a secret I asked.
He's going to be in our four ball.
People love Kickball Dad, bro.
He's big on YouTube.
Yeah.
And he goes, hey, he's an older guy.
He goes, give me some of your war stories.
Yeah, what do you mean?
He's like, what about like traveling?
I said, okay.
I was out of nothing
this is a war story
and I gave my speech about
the first time I went on
a Tampa Bay race chart of flight.
It was different than my flights
that I'd be on with the twins.
Very wholesome organization.
Tand Bay,
not a wholesome organization.
Just to let the fellas do
what the fellas want to do organization.
And I told him that.
And he was like,
he like,
one was like disappointed in Major League Baseball
for letting that happen, but then two also, like, kind of wished he was on that fly.
Right.
Saw both sides to kickball dad.
I didn't get enough kickball dad.
I really want to know what makes him hum because that engine.
I was calling him dad all weekend.
I think he just loved it.
Dad, you're doing great.
Trev, best segment in the show and lived up to the billing,
ending with Colin Poshay.
That's what the people want.
What the people don't want is the IL update.
because seeing Chuck nasty to start it off placed on the IL.
I hate that.
A bunch of catchers, keratinny, Campasano, Herrera, Moreno,
Jakey no likey.
Hazers Lizardo, is he on your team's trade deadline wish list?
Sandoval.
Keaton win, I feel like he's been there too much.
Yistremski, God, San Francisco.
Braxton Garrett, the Marlins, I think they've got seven start.
pitchers on the I.O.
That's a problem.
All of them.
Big Cheege and Carlos Stan.
Taiwan Walker.
Somehow the Phillies
make do with any news.
Ryan Kirkring will just be a starter and be fine.
What a name.
We need to talk about that name.
Yeah, I almost made a dirty joke about that last name.
Gallegos is back for St. Louis.
Jacob Junis.
Hunter Renfro solving Kansas.
city's problems.
While you're a pre-you for Boston, go check out his stats.
He's a stud.
We mentioned Scherzer, Eloy.
Will you say that the Red Sox have good outfield defense just so everyone shuts up?
Yes.
Yeah.
Thank you.
I was, oh, there you go.
I was complimenting Raphaela.
That kid can do whatever he wants out there.
It just, it wasn't a footwork clinic, but he's going to make the play.
because he's an athlete, just like us.
Can we start the week for everyone?
Awards are brought to you by Shady Rays.
I wear my Shady Rays every day.
War them all weekend.
You really do.
I mean, it's the biggest flex I have.
Yes, these are my sunglasses, quite literally.
And you can get them at Shady Rays.
There's a Jamboy pair as well.
No Trev pair yet.
But they also have an array of so many sunglasses,
and most importantly, five stars by over 300,000 people,
and they're at a good price.
They're not at that some sunglasses company.
What they're charging is just out of this world.
That's not shady rays, and it's even better
because at that already good rate, that good rate,
they're giving you 50% off two plus pairs
of premium polarized sunglasses with code talking.
That applies to our sunnies.
That applies to all of their sunnies.
summer's here it's heatwave season
please go to shady rays
go get a couple pairs of sunglasses
with code talking
save 50%
whenever you save that kind of amount of money
it feels good to spend
I don't know how they're in business
I do not know how they're in business
50% off just send us your broken shades
we'll just like they're a great company
they figured it out I don't know
speaking a great company
who's your award going to
okay okay okay I
I haven't been giving
like witty awards lately.
I've just been getting
just down to brass tactics.
Okay.
And I felt like we needed
to give the Mets a little bit more love
as they've been going on their run.
So this one's going to be
I love you jolly,
Olive and Steve Cohen award.
Wow.
Okay.
And Jerry Blevins, most of all.
Yeah.
Love you guys.
Hot.
The Mets have been
one of the hottest teams of baseball
The grimmest thing, I think is silly.
I think it's, no offense.
I think it's stupid.
It's silly.
It's coming close to running its course.
Let's see what happens next.
I think it's stupid.
For me, it's Rands course.
The Mets are playing good ball, though.
13 and 6 in June, Jake.
Let me repeat that.
13 and 6 and June.
Okay?
And there's quite a few reasons for this.
Number one, I'm rooting for the Mets because,
like there you talked about how we want if we were rich and had a franchise like how would we run it like it'd probably be like how the Mets are trying to run it how Steve Cohen's trying to run it now he's you know he brings over one of the best executives in baseball over to his side they start you know figuring out things at the minor league level like okay let's get our development set up like they want to fortify that to have a sustainable future for their franchise so we love that for them so they're doing that
right way. They made big
splashes right away. When they didn't
work out, they traded them
and took on the salary to get
better prospects. Like, okay, love
that from you. Even in a year where they're
supposed to be kind of retooling
or like it's going to be a gap year.
They go sign JD Martinez.
How many
how many times we say your team should sign J.D.
Martinez? A million
times. The Mets went out and did it. Okay?
They signed Harrison Bader
to a deal. They extended
they extend their own.
They give a nimmo contract, okay?
The Pete Alonzo thing, they're trying to figure out.
But by and large, they're,
I know it hasn't been pretty or always looked pretty,
but I think they're like,
they're giving it an effort.
And like Mets fans,
like you have to be happy with the way,
I've said that many times,
you have to be happy with the way
like your franchise is going.
Again, on a day-to-day basis,
sometimes it doesn't look pretty.
but if you zoom out and get some perspective,
like things are getting a lot better with the Mets.
Again, 13 and 6 in June.
And initially this award was going to go to Luis Severino.
Then I just feel like I'm going to jumble it all into a bunch of good things for the Mets.
It's going to be Mets talk, okay?
Severino, remember 17 and 18 when he's with your Yank?
Sye Young 3, Sigh Young 9.
You remember that?
very much beloved
with Yankees fans
bad season last year
has dealt with some injuries
he's Josick Fly's best friend so I love that for him
Noah
Joe's son
shook his finger at me
when I asked him do you have any favorite players
that are not on the Yankees? He says
I will never have a favorite
player that isn't on
the Yankees. He did that to me and said okay
I know who your dad is I understand it
then I asked Joe's about he said if there's one guy
it's Luis Severino he loves him
in May. Sevi was having some problems.
206 average against in May for Sevy.
320 on base, though, because he was walking a lot of people.
16 walks and 29 innings pitched.
In June, though, he's rectified that, Jake.
258 batting average against, but only a 291 on base because
only four walks in 26 in a third innings pitch.
And in June, I had his stats up.
he's going off. He's pitching like a
273 and that's with a blow-up start
where you have six earned runs and six innings.
He's been pitching extremely well.
On Sunday he goes six innings pitch
with 10 K's no walks against the Cubs
to win the series.
It's looking like a
like a comeback player of the year situation possibly.
So I love that they tried that out.
They gave him a one-year contract.
Hey, if it works out great,
if it doesn't, we can run in the hook for one year
or we can trade you.
if our team's floundering, well, with this 13 and 6, they're back.
And it's not only because of that, Jake, this team's been hitting.
Yeah.
In the last 30 days, the only team, teams above them in OPS, I'm sure you could guess.
They're the juggernauts, the Orioles and the Dodgers.
The Mets in the last 30 days have an 805 team OPS.
That trails the Dodgers by 0.001.
The Dodgers have an 806 OPS.
They're on base percentage in that time is second in all of baseball trailing, only the Red Sox.
They have a 342 on base percentage.
So they're getting beautiful starting pitching performances out of a guy like Luis Severina who they brought in.
And now collectively as an offense, they're doing it 13 and 6 in June.
It's not just because of Grimmis.
I'm so, I can't.
We can't be shining light on McDonald's.
Get out of here.
McDonald's is milking this thing for all it's worth.
Get out of here.
I'm sorry.
The Mets are doing it on the field,
and I wanted to shine some light on them.
Congratulations, Mets.
You're running your franchise is the right way.
It's my award.
J.D. Martinez, 152 OPS Plus.
You know, you talked earlier about hitters
and how pitchers don't throw bad pitches anymore.
Well, 36-year-old J.D. Martinez does not care.
I'll keep hitting them.
Francisco Alvarez is back for them.
He's hitting.
Mark Vientos, did you see the ball he hit last night?
Hitting bombs are giving chances to the homegrown guys.
Yes, it's, yes.
You can put a very good lineup together with that Mets team.
You know, I'm a lineup guy.
Very interested to see that.
Jose Iglesias is hitting 400.
I mean, that's hilarious.
You know, I could see that slowing down.
But things are good, things are good.
Treve, I don't know if you know this.
Subway series, two games.
I know.
Col and Heel.
We didn't mention Edwin Diaz.
We did not mention Edwin Diaz
who got tossed from the game.
But what do we say at this point?
He says it was just Rosen, like a lot of Rosin.
The pictures are pretty like gross if you look at them.
So I don't know.
Pre-tacify ball, please.
Jesus.
That's the thing.
Like I don't think there's much of a.
combo for us because it feels like we've done it now.
And I was also laughing like,
Max Scherzer had this happen and nobody cares.
Like none of your baseball buddies are like
Max Scherzer the cheater.
Go say that to Max's face.
I'm just kidding. I didn't.
I didn't say that to Max's face.
I love Mac. I respect Max.
Trev, great award.
Mets. Best record in June.
Nuts.
It's been seven sticky stuff suspensions.
Three are mats.
Targeted.
Trev, you mentioned that you haven't been giving out witty or good awards, thanks.
I am going the opposite route of that.
I'm giving out the Hat Trick Award, Trev.
Because, you know, I'm a sporty gal, and we got a big hockey game tonight.
Game 7, team was down 3-0.
The Oilers are coming back.
Go enjoy it.
Last hockey game of the year.
Knock yourselves out.
and then come join us for baseball season.
Also, the San Diego Padres won three games
against a good Milwaukee Brewer team this weekend.
Been waiting for our Padres to get it going fully,
and maybe they will.
And Poppy Gordo's been wearing a new hat
because his buddy Jake peer pressured him.
Jake Croninworth gets the Hat Trick Award.
Could have been my standout.
Trev, five for five day at the office.
You ever put up a five-knock day?
To my knowledge, no, but maybe.
And I just, obviously I'm biased
because he was nice to me once
and now I purchased his hat.
And it's apparently a cool boy hat.
I didn't realize how hot in the streets
Lega House was,
but I'm sexy now.
It was kind of the conversation at the warehouse this weekend.
It wasn't.
Jake Cronenworth,
125 OPS Plus this season.
He's been bawling, man.
And this was a guy that people were this offseason
we're talking about as a salary dump.
So honestly, go Padres, go.
You mentioned, hey.
49 runs driven in already?
Dude, he's in the middle of that lineup.
He's their lefty balance.
He's been having a great year.
And the Padres,
used to be the example of how everyone wanted a team to be run.
Go out and get some guys.
Sign your young talent.
Extend them.
I still think they are.
And they still might be, we just need wins.
We just need wins on the board.
That's what Philly's got.
And hopefully San Diego has coming.
Hux on net runs on the board.
Who do you got again?
Oilers Panthers?
Oilers.
I'm a Canadian, dude.
Yeah.
You told me you liked what Oilers fans were putting on the internet.
Um, enjoy the sports tonight this week.
We'll be back for the midweek.
It's the mid-season check-in, people.
Mm-hmm.
We're there.
Half, half happy.
Jigsucks.
No five hit days, but two four hit days.
Whoops.
Add them to go.
It's eight.
Double twice in one of them.
Pitch top.
Four for six.
pitches in an inning. The last time that happened was the 2014 twins.
