Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
It's All-Star season.
We're going in a couple days.
Who got snubbed?
Who might be joining?
Who's the better team?
We're yucking ball hard.
Hard.
Got to be in the box and engage.
You have to look at the hitter in the eye.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Present to you by Seek, Jake Storelli, Trevor Ploof,
big baby David Mendelssohn, on the road to Arlington.
As we fly out Sunday, a little bit of a homecoming for me, excited for that.
We're going to rank our favorite All-Stars from 1 to 54.
How many All-Stars are there?
I don't know.
Why did you start laughing at me?
You started laughing.
Trep?
Because you were talking about you got to be engaged.
You've got to look at the picture in the eye.
I don't know. What if, like, you had a wonky eye?
Oh. And you were looking at the picture, but, you know, you had one going over there.
Yeah.
I just, I thought about that for a sec. I don't know.
Alex, uh, like, who's the guy in, oh, man, I don't know what I'm saying right now.
I think it, I think it's in the water boy and he's got wonky out of it.
Yeah, I thought you were going there.
Adam Sandler's never scared to use a guy, a cross-eyed guy looking the wrong way.
my dad was cross-eyed growing up.
Really?
They didn't have a surgery, yeah.
Damn.
Yeah.
How about that?
And that's always one of those, because, you know, what year did that surgery happen?
You know, I feel like eye technology has come a long way.
You're right.
What were they doing?
We're going to talk about that.
We're going to talk about that and a whole lot more as it is yuck and ball season.
We have, dude, no one always gets.
me,
uh,
34 first timers.
That's pretty cool.
And like that number's there every year.
Awesome.
Yank signed Tim Mezzo,
sorry.
Oh,
no.
Uh,
pitch clock,
well,
okay,
I remembered my cross-eyed pitch clock thing.
Alex Verdugo,
he has like one of the most boring,
like,
I'm bored pre-batting stances you can have.
And sometimes he just like kind of drifts off into the distance,
just as like a clearing the mechanism thing.
And I think he,
got called once and he was just doing that.
And it's like, well, this is what I,
this is what I do in the box.
You could go the other way too and just like,
just scare the pitcher.
It'd be good.
We need a good crazy-eyed hitter.
I saw a guy on one of my buddies' Instagrams the other day that I was like,
those are his real eyes.
That's not a filter.
Anyways, 34 first timers.
We'll chew through it.
It's snub season.
the people like to talk about that.
Although I feel every year with the pitchers,
it's like there's first wave all-stars
and then there's second wave all-stars.
Our guy Glass now I'm a little bummed out.
He just went out with back.
Sure, was I DMing with his lovely girlfriend, Megan,
and see you in Dallas.
And now I don't know if she's going anymore, so we'll see.
That's just, I don't know about that one, coach.
She's a wedding friend.
You weren't there.
So you just don't, you don't fully understand what happens in Tulum.
Let's go through.
I think we should go through the starters because this is a fan vote.
We're speaking to the fans right now.
And I think they did a really good job for being on this year.
And that's where I, you know, we're, hopefully we're doing about talking about All
Stars for the next 50 years, Trev.
And I can't wait to, can't wait to listen to those episodes.
But where do you stand?
I guess on the starting lineups to start,
like, you know, it's fan vote right now,
that there's one or two that you can tilt your head at
and, you know, not to jump, I don't know,
it's Wednesday, so I don't know if we do AL or NL,
but like Trey Turner has missed a chunk of time.
He's been really good when he's been out there,
but there's arguments that players have had better first halves.
Like, do you think it should just be star of stars?
like if you won the fans, you've won a little gladiator?
Do you think it needs to be balanced out more of?
Because at the same time, if I've got a star in a lesser market who's been balling out,
this is the one time they should be getting displayed.
As a player back in the day, back when they were doing eye surgeries with butter knives.
I didn't like it because there was a lot of guys who I thought slipped through the cracks.
And then, yeah, you're talking about media.
you know, what am I trying to say?
There's media markets that are bigger.
We had the one year that the Kansas City Royals
were just like all voted to the all-star team.
That really pissed me off.
Division foe.
A lot of guys weren't even playing.
Who was the guy?
Placito Polanco.
He wasn't even like playing.
It might have been him.
It might have been somebody different.
So as a player, I didn't love it
because I felt like I was kind of like
more in tuned with who should make the team.
And then that was a fan.
out of the game
it's like dude this is
this game is for them
and I know it still means
so much to players
and maybe it shouldn't mean that much to players
and we've had talks about how
maybe like the all MLB team
at the end of this season should way
way more heavy it should be on your baseball
reference page instead of this one
because this is only two or three months of good ball
at the end of the year
that's what we're talking about that's the one that should count
so maybe
we just as a society need to look at the All-Star game a little bit differently.
But I think, again, this one's for the fans, so I'm okay with it.
And again, this year they did a good job.
I don't know if there's like, if there's like a safeguard in place now, but I feel like they've
been doing better and better lately with voting the starters in.
I mean, looking at the American League, I don't know what you would really switch out here.
You had Adley at Catcher.
You know, there's some discussions there, I guess.
Vlad, he's come on, he's starting at first base.
Jose Altuva at second base,
J. Ram at third base,
Gunner at shortstop.
He's the best player in baseball right now.
Judge Soto, Kwan, in the outfield.
You could say, oh, well, Kwan didn't play the whole year,
but he's qualified for the batting title right now,
and he's leading all the big leagues in average
and playing like a monster.
And then Alvarez at D.H.
So, I mean, there's not too many changes I would make to that.
Yeah, and I don't want to jump ahead to a second convo that I think is just fun, good people yucking ball,
whether that's with your lads or your ladies.
I currently think, I think the AL rolls the NL, and maybe I've got some bias there.
But let's get the NL starting lineup.
It's brought to you by Momentus.
And Momentus kind of fuels.
I like momentous.
Momentous.
They're in, I think, all but two MLB teams clubhouse as their omega-3, pro team.
What two teams?
What two teams?
Yeah, right.
We might have to find that out.
You know, creatine.
Go look at some old picks of Trev that June of 2012 when he hit 11 homers.
That was momentous.
I'm a little bit of a meathead.
I know, I know you're commenting below, Jake's arms.
And yeah, you got to fuel that.
And Momentus is where you can get that from.
So find out why the world's best athletes and experts use and help develop Momentus products.
If you're like me and you want to take what champions take, go to livemometus.com.
LiveMomentus.com.
Use code talking 20% off your first order.
There's a link in the description.
code talking 20% off.
Take care of yourself.
Let's get big.
Let's get juicy.
You want to give the NL starting lineup, Trow?
I do.
This one's interesting.
I don't know why you say they're going to roll the AL
or the AOL will roll this roster.
I'm not so sure about that.
William Contreras of the Milwaukee Brewers,
not Wilson, William.
That rivalry's got to be so good at home.
So freaking good.
Or you think they're best friends?
I don't know.
Bryce Harper, who just came back,
from injury. So I'm curious
if he's going to play.
Do you think he's going to go to the game
and say, I need a break. I just came back
from the I L guys. I don't know. I mean
when I could say the opposite, right?
Like I was just not playing. I'm kind of rested.
Bryce is one of those we did this combo the other day.
Like that mid-year
four days off in July, Harper
doesn't have that as days off in July.
It's so true. He's going to play.
Ketel Marte. He's been fantastic at second base.
Alec Bull.
at third base for the Phillies. They got a bunch of
representatives here. Three starters
in this lineup.
Trey Turner is short like
you mentioned, and then Profar, who
will be the fourth most experienced
first time all-star in the events history.
Nice. Good for him.
Good for him, man. Then Tatis
who is hurt right now, so I don't think he'll be
partaking in the game. Yeli, who's had
a great year to start. And then
Otani at DH.
Do we have word on who's filling in for Tatis?
I don't.
Jackson Merrill up went out there.
So Jackson Merrill's on the board, which is crazy.
Crazy for him.
And, you know, you guys heard on talking baseball early on how much I liked him.
So, yeah, I don't know, man.
I think just starting lineups going through them, like, and, you know, I shouldn't, I
shouldn't dock pro far.
for how incredible his start has been.
But like, when you look at the AL outfield right now,
and you mentioned Gunner Henderson's the best player ever,
where are you going?
NL. Trev? Is that you? Is that you, girl?
Why did our social team post your Kikew walk off yesterday?
I don't know. Listen, I knew you were going to go there.
We've got Soto and Judge compared to what they got there.
what does that even mean
Paul Skeen's going to start
the game and shut it up
Aaron Judge and Soto's you know what
I don't know what I'd love
keep going
Yelly's got an MVP in the bag
I don't know who's going to go for Tatis
but ProFar is you know having one of the
better seasons
you could say okay he match him up with
Stephen Kwan how about that
and then Yelly versus
Soto
Yeli wins he's hotter
I mean listen
to yourself. Debatable, debatable, actually.
Listen to yourself. And you're talking about the
outfit. Okay, let's get off of this. This is ridiculous.
It's a bad conversation for us to get into.
Okay.
Sorry, Trev.
Sorry for getting dunked on like that.
Do you want to go snubs?
Because that's people like that. People get the most
hot to trot about that.
Or do we need to like kind of finish out the lineups to
the rosters to get to the snubs?
We can go pitchers, I think.
Okay.
That's an interesting one.
And I don't know if you could put this up on the screens, Beaver.
I don't know.
I think it might be easier for people watching on YouTube.
Tyler Anderson, good for him.
He's had a great year with the Angels.
He'll be there, I believe.
Is he there, lone representative?
Yeah.
I think he is.
Corbyn Burns obviously is there.
Emmanuel Claisse has had a great year.
Garrett Crochet is the White Sox only representative.
Sorry, Eric Fetty.
Logan Gilbert has had a great one.
This one's a little head scratcher
because you guys are not happy about this guy.
Clay Holmes
making his second
All-Star team and you guys have not been too fond of him
as of late, although he had a great start to the year.
Tanner Hauke, been a revelation for the Red Sox.
You can say the same thing about Seth Lugo.
Mason Miller will be the A.
No, no.
Yeah.
Yeah, he is the A's only representative.
Sorry about that, Brent Rooker.
Yeah, Rooker.
current snubby.
Cole Regans
for Kansas City.
Cole Riggins.
Yeah.
I can never say this guy's name, right.
Say it for me.
Terrick.
Terrick.
Terrick Scoobble.
Derek.
Eric like Derek.
Derek Scubble is kind of a baller.
So is Terrick.
It's a better name.
So is Terrick.
Eric Scooball.
Just call yourself Derek.
No.
Make everyone's life easier.
Terrick Scubel and then Kirby Yates.
Making his second All-Star team.
Those are the pitchers for the
America League. We have had some
guys step in, I believe on the
National League. Tyler
Glass now, he's out and Hunter Green
is in for him.
Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals,
Jeff Hoffman, good for him.
He's had a great year for the Phillies. The Phillies, I believe,
have six or seven guys on the team.
Good for them. Number one team.
Shoda Imanaga
for the Cubs.
Is he their lone representative? I think he is.
I'll double check.
Are they all one team only?
I mean, it would make sense, right?
Galeigh.
Rinaldo Lopez of the Atlanta Braves.
How about Chris Sale?
All-Star.
Of course he is.
Alex Anthopoulos.
By the way, the Braves signed Eddie Rosario again.
Yeah.
And I believe he raked the first couple games.
Like, this is it.
Everyone's in trouble there.
Tanner Scott of the Miami Marlins.
Paul Skeens made it.
Uncle Jeff made it happen.
Good for you, Jeff Passing.
Your fingerprints are all over this roster.
How about Matt Strom?
That card-breaking long-haired son of a gun.
Good for you, man.
Making his first all-star team.
Rangers Swarres made his first all-star team.
Is he going to start the game?
That's interesting.
Who is going to start the game?
Robert Swares of the San Diego Padres,
Logan Webb of the Giants,
and Zach Wheeler of the Phillies.
And I don't think Wheeler is participating
either. Okay.
Yeah. So that'll be a replacement spot.
Teams with one All-Star. This is fun.
And hey, for those of you listening to this episode,
is this a little wonky pre-all-star break? Yuck and ball? Absolutely.
And I think some of you like that. So we're going to hop around a little bit.
Teams with one All-Star. Halos. Okay. Athletics, sure. Blue Jays? Kind of, yeah. Cardinals.
Kind of interesting,
Hellsley, the only representative.
Well, who else would you put on there?
Yeah, I mean, that's the interesting question.
I don't know.
It would have to be like...
It would be like, Mason Win, maybe.
Well, I guess Sonny Gray's had a good year.
Sunny's been good, missed a little bit of time.
We'll see, that feels like a potential good replacement guy.
Shoda for the Cubs,
Cattle Marte for the D-backs,
Logan Gilbert for the first place Mariners
as the only all-star.
That's...
I wonder if the pitching changes there.
Tanner Scott for the Marlins, that kind of adds up.
National, C.J. Abrams.
Yeah, kind of.
Rays, Issock Parades.
Rockies, McMahon.
Crochet, White Sox, yeah.
The two teams that jump out big time.
Right now, the Mets-only all-stars, Pete Alonzo,
and they're probably the number one snub factory.
And I don't think people think Pete should be an all-star.
Yeah, that's insane.
We'll talk about that, Christian Walker.
Wait, and he's not, and he didn't get voted in.
This is the players voting, right?
So the players put Pete in and left Lindor and Nimmo off.
What are we doing, guys?
Man, you know, if you want to get here.
Get off your phones.
Get off TikTok.
Yeah.
Watch some balls.
Watch Christian Walker play defense.
Trev, the other team that I think I saw,
your boy, John Morosi, tweet out the stat this morning.
The best record in the American League since April.
22nd, coming up on a little plug over two months,
your Minnesota twins, and they only have Carlos Correa going right now.
It's very interesting.
Yeah, they got some guys snubbed for sure.
What's that about?
But these are, if you want to get into it,
Willie Castro's kind of played a little bit all over the field.
She doesn't really fit at one position.
And utility guys almost always get overlooked.
and then Jose Miranda.
I don't know.
I guess he's not enough of a household name.
It's been very recent with Miranda too.
I don't know.
A, snaps to you and your twins
for that stat for being so good.
And I felt better
that I've actually kind of been believing in them recently.
Teams with the most all-stars.
I like going down this list.
Phillies was seven.
We named who they are.
The Dodgers have six.
Mookie will not be partaking.
Glass now out.
Oscar makes it your guy.
Yeah.
Freddie Freeman as a reserve.
Will Smith as a reserve.
Good for them.
And then right behind them, this is probably the most shocking of the list.
Can you guess the team?
I mean, I've been looking at this all morning, so I can't.
It's the Guardians.
Yeah.
Class A, David Frye.
We'll talk about him in a little bit.
Stephen Kwan, Josh Nader, and Jose Remier.
I mean, the Guardian's offense has long been the problem there.
They've been struggling to find consistent, you know, threats on that side of the ball.
And here we are with four offensive players making the All-Star team.
It's why they're still in first place, man.
Is Josh Naylor going to do the home run derby?
Like, okay, Jay Ram, I'm happy that you're in it.
Right.
Josh Naylor is home run derby.
Like him versus Pete
Like come on man
Who's the bigger meathead there?
He's home run derby crack
I was surprised to see J. Ram
Obviously I'm stoked to see me some J-Ram
Let's start the petition
J-RAM take it aside
You already knocked Tim Anderson out of the game
Like let Josh Naler
Get some shine
That'd be awesome if he was like hey man
Actually you go
I had I mentioned this on Wake and Jake
and this was a Jakey shower thought.
Just, you know, getting kooky with the home run derby,
like, you know, warehouse in it, John Boy Media.
Dude, a tag team home run derby
where it was like three minutes on the clock.
J-Ram, you go for a minute.
Nailer, he subs in for a minute.
J-Ram does another 30-set.
Like it's a live running clock, hockey subs.
I don't know.
I'd watch.
I'd watch too.
I'd watch.
A pair of teammates make a bracket.
That's for another time.
Hey, good for Cleveland.
This kind of goes in the, well, A, positionally, you know,
that's kind of one of the weird things with the All-Star game,
that if, you know, if one All-Star is making it from each team,
sometimes that blocks up some spots.
But good on the Guardians for getting rewarded.
And I know David Fry's been your guy,
although I do think it probably came down to him and Willie Castro for one spot.
And I think Fries go with everything, a wise man once told me.
Can we talk about,
the Padres who also have five,
but Louisa Rise, that's on the players again.
Like, guys, first of all,
the batting average is 309.
Great, not a lot of people can hit 300 in the game,
but that's what he's known for.
This guy needs to be hitting 350 to be an all-star,
in my opinion.
342 on base, 377 slug for the 719.
He's got a 104 OPS plus.
Like, this guy's not an all-star.
I love Arise.
He's not an all-star this year, but he is an all-star this year.
This is one of the guys that's taking a spot away from somebody.
Trevor, I'm glad you said it because, as I said, we're opening with snub,
so we'll get there in the 23-minute mark.
But that's always the great game.
That's always the, oh, dude, how could you not have my guy in there?
And it's like, well, you've got to pull someone off.
And, dude, Arise is a perfect example.
Like, dude, I know we're not always, you know,
war doesn't dictate every decision we make.
And I like that.
And I think Luis Arise would normally have a good argument
that if he is hitting 335, like, okay, that matters.
Being the best contact hitter can be important.
But if you're not playing defense.
and dude is you know
OPS is sitting at 719
that yeah that
that should have been another body
that's a that's kind of a tough one
on a team that has other representatives
yeah like they're they're full
exactly I guess I can give you a little snapshot
into how the players like get
how they decide or how they get
presented with options
and again maybe this has changed
but I doubt it because nothing ever changes
in the big leagues
you get a packet on your chair.
You show up to the field one day
and there's a packet on your chair
and it's got a massive stat sheet.
It's got all the stats you could think of in it
and then it's got another piece of paper on it
and it's just got like the positions
and you got to write them in.
So guys are like, dude, I got to play today.
Right.
And then my here's, oh Luis Rice, he's good, right?
Boom, boom, boom.
Like, that's how it goes.
I don't think there's a ton of thought given
by the players.
this. Some guys might take it seriously.
You know, I think if you're like
a potential All-Star, you're diving in being like,
okay, let me take this seriously because you think
you're going to do that. You want everyone to do
that. But guys who are like having
a bad year or something, like, whatever.
Right. So it's not
a great process.
If we're being honest about
the All-Star selections, that's why I say, like, this
All-Star game should not be the one that's on your
baseball reference page. It should
be the one at the end of the season. That should be
the one that you reference all the time.
Now, obviously, they play this one.
You can't play an also game at the end of the year.
So everyone sees this, whatever it is.
But the process of players picking is, it's average at best.
In fact, it's probably a below average system.
Yeah, and I just, I tried to, again,
my player mindset is a little different than yours sometimes.
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
We got babies in the office.
Looks like Jimmy's sister.
Ritsy.
Oh, I follow her on IG.
What's that Ritz?
Visiting just had a
baby. So now we got babies
in the office.
And speaking of Denver, and speaking of those
snubs we're going to open the show with,
booking.com.
Trev,
this whole episode of talking
yuckin ball is brought to you by
booking.com. Booking dot, yeah.
If you're going to see one of the great
U.S. cities,
hell, Denver.
I lived there.
There's a baby in our office from here there right now.
We're going up to Boston at the end of the month.
We're going to Arlington, Dallas in a couple days.
And whether you're looking for bed and breakfast, vacation rentals, resorts,
hotels are so much more.
Booking.com is the place to do it.
Man, it's hard.
If you book the right place to go to any U.S. city,
it's hard to have a bad time.
And with the official accommodations partner of Major League Baseball,
booking.com,
go check out the site or download the app and book your summer travel today.
That's booking.com.
Treff, the snubs.
Yes, finally.
The pitchers, again, that gets a little tricky because most of those guys
are going to get tapped in, whether you,
if you're a starting pitcher and you start that Sunday game,
Whether you're just kind of over it, innings-wise, or you're one of the olds,
I think you can kind of tip your hat and say, no, I don't want to throw more.
I'm interested to see how they handle it with some of the kids this year that are, you know,
breaking their innings limits.
Well, I'll chew up from the athletic article that is the biggest snubs.
And I'll just, I'll read them down and we'll go from there.
Patrick Bailey's been getting thrown around from the catcher spot a little bit.
He's got numbers on both sides of the ball that are very impressive.
Christian Walker, arguably your biggest snub right now that I think he's got to find a way.
Otherwise, that's brutal in a contract here.
And your manager's the manager.
Yeah, we got to, let's figure that one out.
Price Tereng, who's been one of the best second basement in baseball.
Frankie Lindor.
I mean, Mr. Smile, people are saying he's the biggest snub.
This article had Jordan Westberg.
He's in now, right?
He's part of the day.
He's replaced Rafi.
Good for him.
They listed your guy, Willie Castro, is an outfielder.
We'll see.
Orioles have a couple guys between Kouser and Santander that they have an argument.
Brandon Nimmo has been going nuts for the past couple months.
They have your guy, Brent Rooker, who we just mentioned.
And then if you want to hear some pitchers names,
and I do think a chunk of these guys are going to get there.
Ronel Blanco for Houston, Jack Flaherty, our guy.
Luis Heel, George Kirby, Christopher Sanchez.
What do we got?
Trevor McGill is listed as a bullpen guy.
You could list a couple Brewers' bullpen guys.
You know, listed a couple of the big ones there, Trev.
But I guess who continues to stand out for you as like,
this guy's got to be an all-star.
There are a lot of them.
I think you talked about Christian Walker being one of them,
namely because, well, you got Harper.
Okay, great.
You got Freddie Freeman.
Okay, great.
But Pete Alonzo over Christian Walker is not a good choice.
Let Pete come to the All-Star game
and do the home run derby.
But right now, he doesn't deserve to be an All-Star
over Christian Walker.
you can do the head-to-head split on stathead,
and he's just, Christian Walker is winning every single category,
like literally every single category.
Hits, homers, I mean, he has 22 homers to Pete's 18.
That's Pete's calling card.
Right.
He's outdoing Pete.
64 runs driven into 48 for Pete.
Batting average on base, slugging, OPS, OPS plus is all Christian Walker
while playing an elite D.
Defense, 2.8 baseball reference for to 1.0 for Pete. Any way you slice it, Christian Walker should be an All-Star. And he's had some moments too. Like the crushing of the Dodgers. And again, the fact that your manager is the manager of the All-Star team, there's got to be a way. Somebody's got to dip out. I don't know. I don't know how it's going to happen. But surely he deserves to make the team. He's one of the bigger snubs.
Yeah, and I guess if, again, if someone's in, someone's got to go out that like,
I don't know, as much as I love Jackson Merrill, we've got a chunk of Padres.
If Nimmo had been in the outfield instead of Merrill,
does that mean you don't need the Met representative from Pete?
And then that has Christian Walker there.
Because my God, this guy, and dude, when he's an upcoming free agent.
And I know teams are smarter than like, oh, hey, my God.
guy was an All-Star this year. We know they look at
whatever metrics they're about,
and they're projecting, they're going to project
Christian Walker's next four years when they give out his contract.
But man, that would be
for a player that deserves it, who hasn't been an All-Star,
he's, like, we always talk about how first-based defense,
like it kind of just doesn't register properly.
Like, almost everyone gets negative points for playing first-based
defense. Somehow Christian Walker
does not.
And it passes the eye test, too,
when you watch Snakes games.
He's probably the one that I'm the most...
We got to write a wrong here.
Yeah, I agree.
I think the...
I mean, we talked about Louisa Rize already
about how he's probably not deserving
of an All-Star nod.
Bryce Terang, a guy that plays great defense,
swipes bags.
He's got 29 bags already.
The war stat loves him
because he can do all the things.
on the field.
He surely should be in consideration for the Allsartee.
And if you're comparing him against the rise,
you don't want to do that either because he's going to win the comparison.
So I think that's, again, a lot of times when the players are voting,
not a lot of them are familiar with Bryce Terrang's game.
Right.
And they'll overlook defense.
They'll overlook the base running.
They'll go straight to the offensive numbers,
which is what baseball has done for so long.
with the All-Star game, with the gold glove how it used to be.
That's gotten a little bit better now.
But like that you go straight to the offensive numbers.
And even those though are better.
He's a big snub in my opinion.
Yeah, again, the one-in-one out game.
A rise to Rang really shouldn't.
And do the Brewers have been electric all season long?
And Terang's been in the heart of that.
That that's kind of.
tough. I did, I had to take a mental laugh early on when I saw
mooky in this and I was like, oh, okay. Like I was like, is that a spot for
Nimmo? And then I was like, wait, no, mooky bets is a short stop now. That's so
dumb. Probably a second base when he comes back. That's my,
I think of your row stays as short. Coach Trev getting in there. Um,
do you feel more passionate about the pitchers than I do? Because like it,
again, like I got my first wave, second wave thing. Um,
I don't know.
I obviously root for Jack.
I think Luis Heel, the timing of,
timing is everything in life that he'll having his,
if He'll had his bad stretch to start the season
and then went on his insane run,
there's no doubt he's an All-Star.
He went on his insane run, had a downstretch,
and now it's like, oh.
Yeah, you just don't need that many pitchers in this game,
so that's why I think a lot of them, you know,
you get, um,
it'd be nice for them to, like, be on the All-Star,
team but not like like extra you know like you're on the all-sart team you're not going to pitch
don't even worry about it but you're you played well enough to make the all-star team i i feel for
guys who are in the bullpen who aren't in saved situations because most of the time those
guys are the ones they get overlooked um you can talk about i mean Trevor mcgill's been
closing games for the brewers um there are two players this season jake with 18 or more saves
and a sub 1-6.
It's
Emmanuel Classet.
He's on the All-Sor team
and Trevor McGill.
We know his name.
We know his name, Class A.
And McGill has stepped in for the Brewers.
This is not his role.
Yeah.
Stepped in.
It's held the ship for them.
Is that even...
That's not a saying.
Held the ship.
What is that?
He's held the ship for them.
Straighten the ship?
Kept it steady.
Steadied the ship.
I believe.
Yeah. Jesse Chavez
obviously has been
incredible for the Braves
because why not?
It's just how it works.
And then Kenley's done a really good job this year.
He's got 18 saves.
He's been coming on as of late.
You know, Hunter Gaddis of the Guardians
they don't need any more representative,
but he's got the second lowest ERA
in the AO next to Claise.
So I think guys, you know, like him
who aren't getting the saves,
I think a lot of them get overlooked.
For the twins,
it's a guy like Griffin.
He's been really good for them.
I don't know if Josh Stammon has an ERA yet.
Let me look that up.
I know he gave up some runs,
but I don't think they were his.
I love when you start Stilemont and me.
Nope.
19 games, only 19 and 2 thirds of innings pitch,
but zero ERA.
It's where you want it.
That's right where you want to be, man.
Yeah, bullpen gets so tricky.
because, I mean, when you start looking at the leverage innings
and, like, I'm, you know, I kind of don't, like, okay,
maybe I'm talking myself out of it.
I was just going to say, I don't care if your one, two, three hits in the eighth.
I mean, I kind of do.
Getting those final three outs, still like, it's just a little different.
Kenley should be in there.
Boston's bullpen has become a strength for them.
Kenley has the name that we recognize.
he's an all-time closer.
The Clay Holmes thing, I'm wearing a Yankee hat right.
Joe's McFly, I'm wearing a Yankee hat.
I still don't get it.
Clay Holmes was put in by the commissioner's committee,
so he wasn't a player's vote.
You're not, not the player.
I think that decision is probably,
whatever group is part of that,
saw him, Kenley, someone else on the same.
There's a few phases of things.
Saw him, Kenley, someone else.
on the same sheet and they're like
which one has the most saves, Clay, you're in.
I think that's probably
very close to verbatim
how it worked.
Interesting.
A couple of starting pitchers that got
snubbed, Renel Blanco,
you love this stat, I love this stat,
has about three runs or fewer
in 14 of his 16 starts.
If you talk to a position player
about a starting pitcher,
that's all they want to hear.
Did they keep us in the game?
Are we going to have a chance to win this game with this guy on the hill?
Clearly, Ronell, he's been a revelation for the Astros,
a huge part of why they're still,
I think there are only two games back of the Mariners as of today.
And the record backs that up as well.
They're 12 and 4 in his starts.
Yummy.
Mm.
Jack Flaherty, snubbish.
I don't think he cares.
He's like going to go try on some six.
clothes and look awesome.
Some of his outfits, I, I typed out a, I typed out an Instacomacom and I brought it back.
He posted it was just like a bunch of fits.
A couple of them were, they felt like gag outfits.
Well, you saw his fit at the wedding.
I, I was privileged to see a few different looks that he was going through for that wedding.
And what he settled in on was, you know, it's a nice look.
He rocks it.
If you're 6'4 with an Adonis V-shaped body and you're, you know, a multi-millionaire, you can get away with a lot.
And same goes besides me.
Same goes for Flahery.
Hey, again, this isn't supposed to be a shots fired episode and this is a guy we like a lot.
Marcus Simeon.
Oh, yeah.
That's a good point.
We need to talk about it.
His offensive numbers.
I know.
He plays some of the best second.
and base defense in the game.
And he's, dude, I, you know, I gave my weird,
Yelly Borderline All-Star, if he, or Borderline Hall of Fame,
or if he puts together four or five really good ones.
Marcus Simeon with 44.2 career war, good on you.
But this year, I mean, he's at a 93 OPS plus.
He's at a 300 OBP.
Like, that's, you know, let's, I don't want to be rude to Marcus.
games also in Arlington.
Tough sport.
Let's say if Marcus Simeon has a tough final five games
or whatever the Rangers have,
like these stats are going to be...
So he was another player vote.
Not great.
I do agree that you need more than one representative.
If you only have Kirby Yates as your representative,
a bullpen guy at the home stadium.
You can't...
You've got to have something different,
but you have a deserving guy in Josh Smith.
Like he's one of the biggest snubs.
He's been a huge reason why.
That's nuts.
What?
That he's in over Josh Smith.
That's nuts.
And knowing Marcus,
actually I'll be at a party with Marcus on Sunday night.
Knowing Marcus,
I'm sure he's gone up to Josh and be like, dude,
like maybe I'll find a way to get you on a team.
Like I know him and he's,
He feels badly about this.
Yeah, that's always...
Yeah, I mean...
Because if you're Simeon, I mean, technically you get the All-Star nod.
He's been in All-Star games.
Also, Corey Seeker's numbers.
He's come on hot as of late.
They look great.
17 homers, 45 runs driven in.
He's got an 833 OPS plus.
Like, his and Josh Smith's numbers are like,
almost identical. If you told me
Corey Seeger was on the team over John Smith,
I'd like, yeah, that makes sense, too. Sorry, Josh.
Like this guy is, you know,
your $400 million player, whatever the heck he signed for,
in his home stadium. That makes sense.
I mean, there's an argument
Simeon is
fourth out of the guys
in the infield. Like, Nate,
him and Nate Lowe,
similar, Nate Lowe's got a 113 OPS
plus right now. And then we just
did Smith and Seeger.
That's a...
I think you mentioned
the player balloting and
you know, Simeon had a really tough month
that I don't know when the ballots get submitted
but I think there was some time
between...
Yeah, I think the player vote happened
second week of June or so.
Which, by the way,
we have technology
pass an iPad
around and do the vote
the day of.
Not the day of the
I'm saying the day of announcement.
Not like
Peekaboo, it's the All-Star game.
Here's some guys.
The day they announced.
Like, we have that technology.
I hate to go tech guys.
At least week before.
Nuts.
Simian does lead the league in outs above average.
We know he can play.
He sure can.
And I like him.
I think he should be like a movie extra.
I've talked about that before.
Should I go up to him at this party?
Marcus, you shouldn't be on the All-Star.
Give up your spot.
What if he comes up and slaps me?
I heard what you were saying.
That would be awesome.
That would be awesome.
No, we're teammates, bro.
It used to be freaking left side of the infield partners.
Don't hit it over there.
Uh-uh.
Marcus, you got it.
You got the hole.
I got the line.
I'm playing the line.
No doubles.
No doubles.
Brent Rooker's missing out now.
Speaking of Brent Rooker.
Can I tell you guys about Shady Race?
Please.
I love Shady Ray's.
I busted out the blue light glasses the other day in the office
because the laptop TV and lights were getting to me a little bit.
Shady Ray's in the eyewear game, no more butter knife eyeball stuff.
Take care of them with Shady Ray's.
There's the personal Jake in Jom Shades that are pretty sick.
They're my biggest flex.
I've actually been rocking the Joms lately.
And they have so many other pairs that you need to go check it out.
Summer's here.
It's the middle of July.
Go take care of your eyeballs with shady rays.
And it gets even better because with code talking, 50% off 2 plus pairs of premium polarized sunglasses.
And that offer applies to the custom Jimmy and Jake GlabShade.
So go get a couple pairs.
Go maybe gift them to someone.
I don't know.
You got some summer B days.
Beeps just had one.
Shady rays, use code talking, 50% off two or more pairs of premium polarized shades.
Trevello, what's on your mind, big dog?
Excuse me?
That shirt's been throwing me off all episode.
Is that, um...
So my sister made me this shirt, I don't know, maybe it was for Christmas or my birthday.
This is my dog.
It's the only dog that was actually, like, my dog that ever had.
So, uh, Stony, my good girl, we rescued her from Stony, P.
point pound out in Chatsworth.
And it was right when my parents got divorced.
We got this dog.
So like it was like a thing for me.
She passed away years ago.
I actually have her ashes in my closet.
So she's kind of follies there.
You're out?
You got your dog's ashes in your closet now for how long?
Years.
I don't know.
Seven years probably.
I mean, I don't even know what my judgment is right now.
Because you know I'm a dog person.
that I guess part of me respects that.
Part of me is like, damn, dude.
She got a beautiful little box with a lock on it.
It's in a velvet case.
Can I tell you a quick story about Stoney?
I guess so, yeah.
Eat it.
So, man, I think we were still in high school at this point, I believe.
Yeah, still in high school at this point.
I'm living with my mom and my sister.
Me and Delman end up going out when I, Delman Young.
And he ends up.
up sleeping over and he's sleeping on our couch in the living room.
And Delman, you know, had a shaved head at the time, like a bicked head.
It was like clean shave.
And I'm up first.
I'm out there like in the kitchen.
I can see the couch and Stoney comes up to me.
He says hi, you know, wagging her tail, all this stuff.
And then she's like, you know, who's on the couch?
I go, what's going on over there?
And all she sees is that big old bald head.
and she goes, and she had a big tongue.
And she goes up, it just starts licking gentleman's bald head to wake him.
I feel like I was there.
That's not a good, that's not like a great way to wake up.
We're being honest.
It's true.
Like a dog's tongue on your bald heads.
I shouldn't have kicked it back to you.
Sorry.
Do you want to, Treve, we're going to the All-Star.
game this year. Do you have any Trevor Plouffe, like any any tweaks to the weekend you want to see?
So I do, I do think this is, we've been hearing this a lot lately. Chris Rose has mentioned
it. Jeff Passen has mentioned it. Like, I think like the starters of the pitching starters of
the game are important. Okay. And they have not been announced yet. Uncle Jeff. Is he uncle or
brother Jeff?
Brother Jeff.
I think it's brother Jeff.
Brother Jeff has been calling for
Paul Skeens to start the All-Star game
just because he thinks, well, he's a star
and we need to showcase the stars.
He also references, hey, who's going to be hitting
at the top of this lineup? It's going to be judge.
It's going to be Soto.
So seeing, and maybe
Bobby Witt leads off, I don't know,
seeing Paul Skeens
have to navigate those
three. That's what the game's about.
Yeah. That's what you
want to see. Like, I was, like,
I remember Pedro Martinez going up and striking out, you know,
whatever it was, six in a row,
uh, you know, to start his all-stery. I'm like,
those are the moments that like people are tuning in for. Like,
it is, that's what you want to see. So like,
yeah, like if, if you're Ranger Suarez or whoever has had the best year,
like, I get that starting the all-star game means a lot.
But for the fans, which is what we've got to start thinking about, man.
For the fans, it's Paul Skeen's going up against those guys that would really move the needle.
Yeah, I mean, I don't disagree with it.
I was looking at the list of starting pitchers, and it's, I don't think you can beat the Skeen's argument.
I mean, after that, if this is a game of stars or highlighting stars, I mean, who would even be the back of
Like, I think there's almost a cool Chris Sale
Just because how Chris Sale is
And it's his eighth all-star appearance
Like that's half cool
Otherwise, it's like I'maaga
Who I don't know has been a cool story of this season
But
Logan Webb
I like Logan
It's great
But I want to see the guy throwing a 104
Trying to shoot it past Judge and Soto
Man
It's an exhibition game
because, you know, he's going to pitch, I think.
I want to see him pitching those guys.
And the American league can be the same thing.
Like, I want to see, let's see, who's a great starter for the American?
How about this?
Let me blow your mind, Trevor Goof.
Oh, my gosh.
Throw Mason Miller out there for the first.
It's an exhibition game.
I'm like that, too.
That might get a couple more eyeballs, no.
We got these two kids that are throwing...
It's an opener. That's what we do now, people.
Two kids throwing a buck 04 out there?
No one's throwing more than two minutes anyway.
The top of the National League lineup, right?
Sorry, guys.
Well, hey, top of the A.L might vote against Skeens.
I think, again, no offense to friend of the company, Logan Webb,
but, you know, that 95 sinker.
That gives me nightmare.
I know that's...
I think I'd rather face made similar than Logan Webb.
Now we're talking.
I don't think I want to face either of them.
They will just blow my...
Yeah.
I think you'd be in a tough spot either way.
I'm trying to look at this rotation or these pitchers
and see who I'd want to face, and it's none of them.
Tyler Anderson, lefty.
Yeah.
That's it.
I was looking at those 2012 lefty numbers today, Trev.
OPS and the nines.
Thank you, Bruce Chen.
And that too should be starting it.
I mean, dude, who's, who's the AL going to start?
Like, Corbyn.
Burrne Burm's like the alumni pick.
Like, that's the, okay, this guy's,
pedigree.
This guy's a regular, you know,
you respect Corbyn's starting the All-Star game.
Yeah, otherwise it's like,
howker crochet is the new kids on the block
who are not giving up hits.
All right, let's just look this up.
I mean, as far as WIPP, it's, as far as WIP, it's Terrick, Scoobol, Logan Gilbert, Garrett Crochet.
But we don't care about WIP.
This is the All-Star game, bro.
I'm just looking at, like, who's deserving of it is all I'm saying.
I mean, Seth Lugo has the lowest ERA, then it's Corbyn's.
I bet Cortman Burns ends up starting the game.
I like Corbyn's.
I've always said it.
One of my favorite parts about podcasts and because there was a,
originally the idea of podcast was like, yeah, fire up some mics.
Let it, let it hang out.
And, oh, who knows what we'll talk about?
A little spoiler, that's not it.
You need, like, kind of an organized plan.
And then you can have...
Except for today.
And then...
For most shows, the plan helps.
We're going to get to the snubs.
We're going to get to the Adam Fraser trade.
You know, it's having those tangents within organized conversations.
Mason Miller.
I don't know.
I mean, maybe I've become too click-click-bait Jake.
But if you told me the All-Star game is opening up with Skeens and Mason Miller.
I'm in on that.
I'm in on that, Jake.
Should we still?
I think that's a talking baseball exclusive, exclusive.
Yeah, sorry, Jeff, we won up to you, bro.
Just like always.
Just like always.
I mean, that's a nice guy.
Always been really nice to us.
I'm looking at this right now.
Okay.
So right now,
Mason Miller's strikeouts per nine are 15.8.
It does not lead the big league somehow.
How do you ever?
For qualified pitcher,
strikeouts per nine,
it's Garrett Crochet at 12.4.
Qualifying issue.
Mason Miller, Paul, schemes to start the All-Star game.
Crochet starting would be cool, too.
There's some weird white socks combos that would take it up.
But I guess same with Mason Miller and the A's,
but at least it would be something cool and new.
Have you like,
have we like experienced crochets like,
like vibe?
As like a person.
Yeah.
Like how's the vibe there?
Never heard them talk.
Not sure.
I mean,
I just,
I remember the highlights from Tennessee and it was like,
whoa,
kids in college throw a buck now.
And now,
I got to find out how the vibe is.
Okay.
Well, let's end it with Garrett Crochet's hometown.
Where do you think he's from?
I got his page up right now.
Sorry.
Dang.
Okay, I don't.
I just saw it, though.
And it adds up.
I think we've gone over this before.
There's an ocean in Mississippi.
Yeah.
What?
But I don't think, yeah, it is.
Ocean Springs is like on the water.
It's in the Gulf.
Let's see.
Google, sir.
Oh, we're on the, oh, yeah.
I bet we would have a good time in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Is he like an Outer Banks character?
Like, is he like, you know, one of those guys?
Like, he wore Pooka shells, for sure.
Oh, I don't know.
Yeah.
Alabama Coast.
I know.
Okay.
Cucal's double polo, collar up on the beach with some boat shoes.
No doubt in my mind.
Thank you, everyone, for tuning in.
We will see you Friday.
Hopefully we'll be seeing some of you in Dallas.
for the All-Star game.
It's all happening, then it's
treadline season? Oh, boy.
Jake sucks.
I can't believe your friends
thought I didn't shoot an 83 at Pebble Beach.
That's, like, ridiculous.
I'm off your friends.
98 the next day?
99. That's five glass.
I don't know if that helps or hurts, you know?
I'm on the Ginn app. You can go check out all my scores.
Wow.
