From executive producer Isaac Saul, this is Tangle.
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, and welcome to the Tangle podcast, the place we get views from across the political spectrum.
Some independent thinking without all that hysterical nonsense you find everywhere else.
I'm your host, Isaac Saul, and we're in a little bit of an odd day today. Today is Yom Kippur.
This is the holiest holiday of the Jewish year. And like millions of other Jews today,
I will be abstaining from eating and drinking, among many other prohibitions, like bathing or sexual relations or wearing leather shoes. There's lots of interesting stuff in ancient religions. That means no food and no coffee for me. It also means no work.
that lead up to Yom Kippur, Jews are supposed to spend the eve of Yom Kippur, which began at sundown last night, and the entire day today in prayer and meditation. So I'm violating that a
little bit right now by getting up early to get this podcast recorded. It's a time of atonement,
not just with God, but among friends and family. And tonight, prayers will close with the ritual
blowing of the shofar, the ram's horn, which is a tradition many people are familiar with that happens after sundown. If this is your first time listening to
the Tangle podcast, I apologize. It's pretty unusual for me to take a day off in the middle
of the week. You can read yesterday's newsletter or listen to yesterday's podcast with links in
today's episode description. There's also a preview of a newsletter that we
published a few weeks ago. That's one of our most popular newsletters ever. There's a link to that
in today's episode description. You will run into a paywall if you're not a paying subscriber. So
just a heads up, it's a preview. In years past, I've managed to get ahead of the holidays,
the high holidays around this time. So I could take a day off without listeners or readers
noticing. But this year has just been wild. It's been really demanding. There's obviously a
ton of stuff going on. We're in the middle of the midterm season. And we also had this big launch
of the advertising stuff last week. And I'm just been kind of underwater, really, working hard,
which I love. But I just wasn't able to get a couple of days ahead so I could avoid taking today off.
So tomorrow we'll be back here with your standard podcast. We'll be covering the voting rights case
that was argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. So there's a little preview of what's
coming tomorrow. If you are someone who observes Yom Kippur, I wish you an easy fast. If you'd like
to read more about the holiday, there's also a link to that in today's episode description. I get a lot of questions whenever I talk about Judaism
and stuff like that in the newsletter or the podcast. So there's a quick, easy way for you to
read for five minutes and learn about something a lot of people are doing today in this country
and across the world, obviously. Also, since today's kind of a weird day, I just want to say this is a great
day to help us out. You could use today's brief intermission to spread the word about Tangle.
As many of you know, we are running a charity drive this month and maybe longer. We're going
to see how it goes. Hopefully it goes well and we'll keep doing it. Readtangle.com slash give.
Anyone who signs up for free for our newsletter under that URL, readtangle.com slash give. Anyone who signs up for free for our newsletter under that URL,
readtangle.com slash give, will trigger a $1 donation to Meals on Wheels or No Kid Hungry.
So that link, readtangle.com slash give, it's in the episode description. If you just share it on
social media and your friend signs up for the newsletter, then a dollar is going to go to charity.
We're putting aside some of our advertising budget to see what kind of growth our readers
can spur.
I'm really excited about this.
I hope you think about doing it.
And if you've already done that or you want to support us in a different way, obviously,
it's always a great time to become a paying subscriber of Tangle.

Thank you for the understanding.
We'll be back here tomorrow. Before we go, as always, some quick hits.
First up, Twitter says it is planning to close the deal to sell the company to Elon Musk
after receiving an offer, avoiding a potential
trial. Number two, former President Trump's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to intervene
in the Mar-a-Lago search case, arguing an appeals court lacked the jurisdiction to remove them from
the special master. Number three, North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan, the first
such launch since 2017. The US, Japan, and South Korea
conducted their own military drills in response. Number four, the United States committed an
additional $625 million to Ukraine, bringing the total aid provided close to $17 billion so far.
And number five, the United States national debt surpassed $21 trillion for the first time.
All right, that is it for our quick hits. That is it for our podcast. Like I said,
we'll be back here tomorrow, same time. Thank you all for understanding in advance. I really
appreciate it. And once again, an easy fast to those of you who are partaking. We'll see you tomorrow. Have a good one. Peace.
