Starting point is 00:00:00 Based on Charles Yu's award-winning book, Interior Chinatown follows the story of Willis Wu, a background character trapped in a police procedural who dreams about a world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web, his family's buried history, and what it feels like to be in the spotlight.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Interior Chinatown is streaming November 19th, only on Disney+. Chinatown is streaming November 19th, only on Disney+. From executive producer Isaac Saul, this is Tangle. Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening. My name is Isaac Saul, and this is the Tangle Podcast, a place where you get some independent thinking views from across the political spectrum and some reasonable debate without all that hysterical nonsense you find everywhere else. you find everywhere else. Today, well, today is a very special little mini episode announcement. It is really just a brief message from me, Isaac, and I wanted to let you all know that I have quit my job this week. For those of you that have been around for a while, since the beginning of Tangle, you probably know that for the last year and a half, two years, I have been building out Tangle,
Starting point is 00:01:31 this project, while simultaneously working a full-time job as an editor. As you can imagine, this has created a lot of early mornings, long nights, stress, and exhaustion. It has been nearly two years of 12 to 14 hour days, juggling both jobs, planning a wedding, trying to maintain a relationship, having a life outside of work. It's been a lot. And I've been burning the candle at both ends. And for the last few months, the support from all of you, from readers, from subscribers, it has inspired me to think about taking this leap of faith and to jump full-time into Tangle. And on Wednesday, I finally worked
Starting point is 00:02:12 up the gumption to pull the trigger to do it. And I put notice at my job where my last full day will be May 5th, and then I will be all in, all the chips on the table on Tangle. It's a place that I've worked for nearly seven years. So it's a big change for me. It's exciting and scary. And, you know, frankly, I'm, I'm thrilled. I'm nervous for sure, but I'm mostly just excited and blown away that it's gotten to this point. If you've been a subscriber, I can't put into words the gratitude that I have. I can't say thank you enough. Your support has made my dream come true. It's a dream to create a unique, fresh, intellectually challenging place to consume political news. I always say this, and I believe it, that I think Tangle is aiming for something a little bit bigger, a little bit more impactful than just telling people what's happening in
Starting point is 00:03:12 politics. It's about bridging a divide, but it's also about exposing people to ideas that they like, ideas that they don't like. It's about making sure we all get a little bit uncomfortable. It's about understanding other people in the country outside the people who are in your immediate social circle. And if you're not a subscriber, maybe you're on the free list. Maybe you've just found Tangle through the podcast world. This would be an excellent time to throw your support behind what we're building. In today's show notes, you'll see a link to readtangle.com backslash subscribe, where you can get our daily newsletter and Friday editions for just $5 a month or $50 a year. That's less than a dollar a week. As I tell people often, the yearly subscription is both cheaper for you and better for me since I lose revenue on fees
Starting point is 00:04:03 each month when you're on the monthly subscription. So every time there's a transaction, Stripe takes a fee. So the yearly is better for you, better for me. There's also a founding membership where you can show a little extra support by subscribing for $199 a year. You get a couple extra perks. Quite a few people have done that to those founding members. Again, I don't know how to put into words the gratitude that I have for your support. Finally, I also just wanted to post this just to let you know that we're taking a small breather. There actually is no new podcast episode this week. We've been posting podcasts now for the last nine weeks, nine consecutive weeks, typically
Starting point is 00:04:42 going live Sunday night, Monday morning. And this was a new space for me. I've been writing for many years, but podcasts were new, and I'm really happy with them. I've been thrilled with the guests we've had, the conversations we've had, the reception's been really strong, really positive. And I just wanted to pause for a moment, both to do this announcement, also to reevaluate, to line up some guests, to look back on the last nine weeks with a critical eye and think about how to improve things. And we have some awesome stuff in the pipeline. We're planning to roll out some new
Starting point is 00:05:14 features, including daily readings of the newsletter, which is something a lot of you guys have asked for, and I'm excited to deliver on that. And we have some new perks for subscribers in the newsletter coming out soon in the next couple of weeks. So stay tuned for that. We're already lining up our next guests. And that is all for now. Nothing is going to change, I guess, in a sense, except that I hope the product gets a little bit better in every facet because this will have my full attention and nothing else going forward. Really, I just wanted to thank
Starting point is 00:05:49 all of you guys so much for your support. I want to nudge those of you who are not subscribers to please consider becoming subscribers because I am relying on that support now in a big way. Of course, the best thing you can do better than anything else is just to tell your friends and spread the word about Tangle. You can punch that five-star rating on this podcast, which is also super helpful. I am so excited, so appreciative, so humbled by where things are and where I think things are going to go. So thank you.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Thanks for listening. Thanks for reading. Thanks for helping making this dream come true. I'm so excited for the next year. And you will see us in your inbox this week. Peace. Today's podcast was produced by Tangle Media in partnership with our friends over at Impostor Radio. If you enjoyed the podcast, be sure to give it a five-star rating.
