Starting point is 00:00:00 Read something online that really hits a nerve. It could be disinformation, specifically targeted for that exact reason. Stop and question the source before you share. Learn more at Canada.ca slash disinformation. A message from the Taskmaster podcast. It is a big day on the Taskmaster podcast and in the history of Taskmaster because we are talking about the final episode, episode 10 of series 15. A new champion has been crowned.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Of course, this should go without saying, but if you have not seen Episode 10 of Taskmaster, then you should not be listening to this episode because it's an interview with the champion. So go away, turn off now, and go and watch Taskmaster on all four. Okay, those idiots should have gone by now. We are, of course, talking to the champion today, the champion of Taskmaster Series 15, Mae Martin.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Was it ever in doubt? Well, towards the middle of the series perhaps but these last few episodes, oh boy Mae Martin has absolutely smashed it. Very excited to talk to Mae about this final episode and about their experience in Taskmaster in general. We will get on with that
Starting point is 00:01:24 ASAP. Very, very exciting. It's been an incredible series. Everyone has knocked it out of the park in their own specific way. Ivo Graham has not knocked it out of the park. He's knocked it directly into the floor, but it was fantastic to watch. Let's get on with it. This is the Taskmaster podcast talking about the final episode of Series 15 with the champion, May Martin. about the final episode of series 15 with the champion may martin welcome series 15 champion may martin to the taskmaster podcast i'm really honored i'm like i gotta get a therapist because anytime i even won a task i was like i was so like highly competitive and desperately wanted to win and then if i did win i was like, I was so like highly competitive and desperately wanted to win.
Starting point is 00:02:05 And then if I did win, I was like, the British public is going to hate me and they're going to like, I don't deserve it. Like I got really in my head about it. But thank you. I really I feel passionately about Taskmaster and I'm honored. Well, I do understand that that feeling. I actually think it's a very British way of being. I guess that sort of extends into maybe this is one of the similarities between Canadians and British people
Starting point is 00:02:29 we do want to win but uh when when suddenly all the focus is on us on us for doing something well yeah how are you supposed to react to that yeah exactly the worst is at the end filming just holding the trophy and you're supposed to like hold it aloft triumphantly and i like all i wanted to do is hand it off to someone else i was so but then of course like now i have it proudly displayed you can see yes it's there yeah there it is perfect yeah i had to have it i had it mailed to la yeah this is great look you you should you should take this just just for this moment take take this uh you know this fanfare you have won and you won emphatically i don't think anyone i don't think anyone was thinking that someone else might sort of uh sneak past you towards the end i think the
Starting point is 00:03:18 last sort of three or four episodes there's been some pretty outstanding performances from you that made us all think i think may's got this in the bag thanks ed but then still also some truly foolish moments as well it's the best that's why the format's so good like no one gets out unscathed everyone has to face like the idiocy of their own mind you know totally totally and that's why it's a great format and that's why you shouldn't feel that sort of like embarrassment at doing well, because, look, there's there's been plenty of disasters. Do you are there any I mean, we're going to come to your favorite moments and your triumphs, of course. But are there any things that stick out in your mind from this series that make you wince when you think about them? Oh, man. Well, OK, to start with, wish I'd chosen a different outfit in general, like my,
Starting point is 00:04:06 my like track suit. So then that means every task really has a tinge of embarrassment because in my mind, I looked like kind of an American skateboarding boy. Like I looked like Rufio or like, I don't know, some cool dude. And then Rufio from, from hook. Yeah. I don't know. It's been a while since I've seen hook may, but I'm pretty sure Rufio wasn't Hook yeah I don't know it's been a while since I've seen Hook May but I'm pretty sure uh Rufio wasn't wearing a tracksuit yeah you're so right it was the energy of Rufio like a sort of Bart Simpson kind of energy but um in reality I feel like I looked a bit like like Judi Dench kind of in it I don't know but so that that's the beginning and I like I like the outfit personally and uh I And the producer of this podcast,
Starting point is 00:04:46 when we got sent the initial links for this series and we were watching them, the producer messaged me saying, I love May's outfit. So there you go. There's at least one person who specifically said they loved your outfit. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:05:00 That's really nice. Did they also say that they don't mind when I get my disgusting feet out? Because that is my main regret. Like so many things where I didn't have to get them out. And I chose to. Yeah, the feet came out a lot. Yeah. Again, like therapy, I think would dig into this because it's the part of my body that I am the most embarrassed about. And then I somehow felt compelled to get them out in a kind of masochistic, long, disgusting toes, very bony feet.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Like I, yeah, I would say they're my worst thing. And then I'm like, well, I guess I gotta get them out. Like, it's- Is that not, would you, could you not twist that into a positive thing that you're, if anything, maybe realizing that that's in your own mind that they're disgusting and maybe
Starting point is 00:05:45 show them to the rest of the public look at no point may when you got your feet out multiple times in this in the show did i think those are disgusting feet i'll tell you what twitter would disagree with you like twitter was like you know and i'm obsessively checking twitter every episode of course and people are like why did they do that? Someone was like, I really enjoyed this episode, but I had to turn it off at one point. Well, people get weird about feet in general, I think. Yes, they should. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:15 So what did you say? Is it long toes? Did you say that's what you're worried about? Yeah, they're like sort of the length of my fingers they're too long and they are sort of just pale and bony and um not in any way either dainty or or masculine they're just like some like alien thing so this is perhaps why because you use them in the in a musical task correct where you you were playing uh a double bass that you'd made yeah yeah and to peel an egg so you obviously thought they're so long they can be used for finger jobs yeah they're like prehensile for
Starting point is 00:06:50 sure for finger jobs yeah yeah yeah um i mean it was all highlights for me i absolutely love that that suddenly your feet are out again and this is from someone who i think on more occasions than you got your feet out for some some reason, babies were involved. It was like I used a baby's head for something. I made a clay baby. I pretended to be a baby to sing the Taskmaster theme tune. So there's multiple reasons why that could be happening. It's so weird, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:07:17 How your brain just starts vomiting up some recurring theme. up some recurring theme yeah yeah yeah i my other worst moment was um like the scandal about the string on the ball with the drum kit yeah yeah we could i mean i have huge regrets about it but um i think what was so tragic about it was how much i thought i'd smashed it and i was like this is the brief of the show i'm thinking outside the box. Yeah. And just hearing the silence in the studio audience and feeling Kyle next to me, like fuming. And just, and then like, and that coming back from watching the task and just, there's a really long pause
Starting point is 00:07:56 before even Greg and, like, it was just so humiliating. Well, look, to be a champion, you can't always make friends with everyone along the way right so yeah it was an interesting way of doing it i uh personally i mean on this podcast i don't think i necessarily agreed with it as a correct way that's fair yeah because you were throwing it each time incorrect but we can't get bogged down in this mate no we can't i could yeah i was i was jerking it i mean in the studio that debate about what was throwing and what was casting and what was all of
Starting point is 00:08:32 that was went on for you know in the edit was like seven or eight minutes it felt like so god knows how long it went on oh it was it felt like a about 25 minute debate and then kept coming back in subsequent episodes when even like the studio audience is different for each record. So they didn't know what we were talking about, but it kept coming up again. And oh, yeah, it was rough. Let's put all this negativity to the side. Did you have what was your what was your biggest triumph do you feel like in the series what will you look back on and go i absolutely nailed that
Starting point is 00:09:11 yeah this is a good therapy task yes because this is taking you a lot longer than the uh yeah yeah but that's what that's how trauma works you know it creates little uh flags in your memory and everything else becomes kind of mush but i think okay finding the ball of string in the drawer yes in the when i had yeah that was like truly uh an amazing feeling that was pretty euphoric um that was so hard that to find that ball of string yeah well firstly to think well i don't have to use this string i can find a ball of string somewhere else so obviously you're a fan of taskmaster and thought they must have left a ball of string somewhere so yeah so that's the next step and then to immediately just walk over to a tiny little hidden drawer and go boop it felt so good
Starting point is 00:10:05 it was like oh and those drawers are kind of exactly the size of that ball of string and i had clocked it earlier like that that one of them was a real drawer and some were fake but oh man that that it's always good to to see alex's delight as well yeah like in that was good to see his face kind of light up um so that was pretty good i liked driving the barge a lot yes um i liked the potato hat um and this is but this this is why i think you were such a good contestant because you thought you thought outside the box you realized there'd be tricks for things you'd normally found those tricks and then also the silly practical stuff you managed to execute as
Starting point is 00:10:46 well as the tricks so you're thank you so much you're an all-round player may thank you so much i do a lot of escape rooms and um i felt hot yeah but it's so weird i don't know if you felt this but like going into it because i've seen every season like i and i really had this vision for myself as being like like the funny one like being hilarious and just like not taking it too seriously I don't think I said a single funny thing the whole series again with that 100% disagree with that um the the intent you were incredibly intense you can see how focused you are you can but you are competitive but you managed to keep your dignity not something I can claim claim for myself but uh and definitely the escape room thing i've mentioned it a lot on the podcast
Starting point is 00:11:29 actually talk talk to a lot of people about may does escape rooms and you can tell that because there are more and more now in taskmaster tasks that are popping up that employ escape room engineering and i'm thinking specifically of the team task uh with um with the different uh flavors uh and the periodic table that's the flavored jelly babies yeah as kyle mentioned after that task that it was edited favorably for him it was also edited favorably for me because i kyle and i are friends we really get, but we almost came to blows. Like it was such, cause I was so flummoxed and bewildered that he would, he wouldn't eat the jelly babies. And he just kept going.
Starting point is 00:12:12 He just dug his heels in and was like, I'm not putting that in my mouth. And then I said some things like, I was sort of half joking, but I think I said people at home will despise you. I said like crazy things that i didn't mean i said like our friendship is over like i really was like yeah so they they edited it um yeah but i love they should have left all of that in i'd like maybe a youtube video edit of you absolutely
Starting point is 00:12:38 taking kyle apart during that task that would be great um yeah it's so interesting that though isn't it that you went into it being like i think i'm gonna be the really relaxed fun one yeah i'm gonna be so chill and then when did you realize that wasn't gonna happen was it the first task or was it when you were watching it back in the studio oh day one first task yeah day one first task and then and then and then really in the studio and and and really I was like, I'm sure I'll immediately develop an electric rapport with Greg. And just, you know, was trying to get there, like experimenting with different angles, flirting with him. You know, and he was pretty impenetrable.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And also, I'm sitting next to like the most charismatic, funny, chill guy in the world. Yeah. I thought Kyle's so likable on the show everyone is it was such a good cast i had the best time but kyle sort of strikes a balance between quite quickly realizing i think that he's not going to do well so he immediately just doesn't give a shit and i think that's what greg respects i think greg tunes into people more when they're when they clearly don't give a fuck and yeah uh they sort of not half-assedly do things but just like toss them out there whereas i think you and i have
Starting point is 00:13:50 similar energies where we're quite plucky and we want to do well yeah and he does not like that when people are clearly are clearly showing off for him to try to try and get into his good books completely yeah because it's yeah that's like we're respecting alex's tasks too much or something yeah yeah yeah and i think ivo has ivo has elements of that during prize tasks as well where i think most people when they do prize tasks they go oh this is what i brought and then they sort of riff why they brought it ivo and we'll come on to this later because he does it in this one almost has a sort of dragon's den style pitch fully written out and prepared in his mind he's so verbose and and quick as well and then yeah it's so funny when he gets flustered and Frankie described him as like a
Starting point is 00:14:37 chimpanzee whose habitat's under threat yeah like self-harming it's like so funny our group our our team tasks me and jenny and kyle have such a surreal combination of energies and um i laughed jenny made me laugh so hard yeah she's so great she's so great and just yeah and i mean not only was it a surreal combination of energies between all three of you i find jenny and claire herself a surreal combination of energies yes she has so many energies within one within one person yeah absolutely i like when she suddenly switches to rage like you fucking freak or something called to alex and then the next minute she's really jovial yeah i love it a personal highlight for me in this series was definitely um the team task where uh kyle had to wear the um the camera uh goggles and you and jenny had to guide him around the garden to pick up spoons because he is so instantly annoyed if you put the
Starting point is 00:15:38 all the team tasks back to back i think kyle is annoyed for the whole day from what i can work out yeah yeah i think he really was i I think he found us really grating in his ears. And we were having the best time. Yeah, it's the high voice, the high voice. At one point, I think you say, walk forward until you feel the grass on your feet. And it was just like something out of a Disney film. It made me laugh so much. We should talk about this episode, the episode that sealed your victory, although I think it was probably sealed a few episodes ago.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Let's talk about the prize task. The best Greg Davis merchandise that isn't on the market, but should be on the market now. Good prize task, solid prize task, I think. I think occasionally, although you've won, we can talk about this. I think occasionally you've been shortchanged in the prize tasks, May. Thank you so much thanks i feel like you put a lot of effort in a lot of effort in to make unique things that stuck to the theme and i think this is yeah greg mark you down that's partly because i um i was sort of around for when charlotte was charlotte ritchie was compiling her list and i gave her tons of
Starting point is 00:17:06 suggestions that she ignored she came up with a list of just stuff basically from her house and then um I was when when her series was airing we we were in communication a lot so I was like I gotta make stuff like I have to yeah and then uh the one that I thought was pretty good was the like blow-up doll up doll on your head. But Greg didn't like that at all. But sometimes they'd cut out like they've edited out often near the end of an episode. He'd say, oh, yeah, I really shortchanged you there. Or like, yeah, that was something you go.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Yeah, that was really unfair, wasn't it? And then he'd laugh. Yeah, it just shows it's all based on his whims in that exact moment. I also thought the toothpaste roulette was underscored thanks thanks as was the brian cox pop tarts thank you thank you so much all of these should have got should have got good scores but it just you know it's almost like you put too much effort into them and he disrespected that it's exactly what yeah what we were just saying like i you can sense my nervous energy as i'm presenting it just like desperate to get to get
Starting point is 00:18:05 those sweet points and yeah whereas Frankie clearly doesn't care and did very well in in a lot of the prize stuff even though I mean god knows how many pieces of art he brought in I know I know that was weird that the art ones were really weird the one that he said he kept throwing out and it kept just reappearing I was like I why didn't we dig into that more what do you mean yeah i mean i think what he meant was he before they sent him the prize task categories he made a list of 10 things that he wanted to bring in and then he sort of he sort of bent them around to the category i mean even this one so let's talk about frankie's here it's the best greg davis merchandise that isn't on the market but should be on the market he's brought in artwork again uh which is a euthanasia bean bag that
Starting point is 00:18:48 turns into a body bag and in the artwork it's greg on it and it says greg davis on the side of the bean bag yeah yeah yeah he's had an idea and he's gone i'll just put that in yeah and there's yeah how does the bean bag euthanize you it just suffocates you suffocates you i think and then turns it i mean it's very funny it's very frankie boyle but it has no relevance to this to this prize whatsoever not at all and and the mechanism of the euthanasia is unclear and yeah but it it is funny but yeah there's a lot of death and euthanasia coming up with frankie and a lot of the tasks yeah a lot of darkness there yeah a lot of darkness which I think we knew about Frankie right and he's very verbose and uh in his darkness and that's
Starting point is 00:19:31 what we do like about him but also I think sometimes when he speaks to Greg he almost brings Greg down to his left like Greg almost seems more sort of like a bit a bit not depressed but just a bit more even in this he says oh we're on the verge of death and and greg goes her every morning i wake up and think i cannot believe i'm seeing another son you're like greg you're a dark poet i know frank he's like it's almost like he's saying to greg like yeah never forget that we're you and i are like mortality's just knocking at the door yeah you're right he brings him right down he's we um by the end of the you know we have like a whatsapp thread all of us and by the end for this episode in particular Frankie
Starting point is 00:20:11 kept making this joke that we should all be on acid for the final recording and we all would laugh about it and then it got kind of he got more insistent and then he's like and then it was like and then it was like so who's got the acid like Like he was really, he was like, wouldn't that be funny if we didn't tell anyone and we were all on acid dressed like the Beatles. And then we couldn't figure out, I still don't know if he was joking. He was really, I think, disappointed that none of us took, I mean, maybe he was on acid. Maybe. I mean, it made no difference to his personality, I would say.
Starting point is 00:20:39 No. Well, that's an amazing thing to do as well. If he was serious about the acid thing, that in the run-up he's going who's got the acid you're like well Frankie if it's your idea I think it's definitely your responsibility to get the acid yeah 100% go and find it yeah we should talk about the the outfits actually because you all look amazing whose whose idea was that to to wear those outfits for the final episode that's a good question I think it might have been me and Kyle I think we were we were like adamant that we should be wearing something and there I think in the house there was kind of a 60s theme and so we went we went also yeah I I was I really wanted to
Starting point is 00:21:17 be Macca and and be in the pale blue yeah yeah I loved wearing that I wish i've worn that for the tasks well look hey you've got champion of champions that's true so you can wear anything you want you know if you want to go down the bart simpson route you could you could just simply dress as bart simpson yeah you could dress as rufio oh you know what i think i'll do that i'll do rufio but you need things like the like a sort of feather earring and stuff like that and you need to dye some of your hair red i can do that yeah i'm gonna start pumping iron too so i'm just i want to be like hench just like inexplicably swole just for that as well nothing no other public appearance should you be swole just for champion of champions you should be ripped yeah get a personal trainer like tons of protein yeah yeah i'd love that
Starting point is 00:22:05 so it was what it was one point for frankie finally greg has seen through this that frankie just brings in art all the time um let's talk about kyle's uh greg davis morph suit um i thought it looked good but then also there was sort of it felt like i don't know if it felt like in the studio when it came up no one really knew what it was it wasn't immediately obvious what the what the actual bit of merch was yeah i would have liked to see someone in it moving in it because that's what that's when more suits are weird and funny like the you know the weird body movements and stuff but yeah pretty good pretty good yeah i think it was pretty good it felt it felt maybe i think if you said best greg davis merchandise you do think of a mask or something like that so it maybe felt a little bit uh a little bit route one maybe but also i think it horrified greg yeah a lot a lot did in this task yeah i think yeah he was
Starting point is 00:22:58 horrified by jenny's coffee stencil as well that it looked like colonel sanders and i loved the coffee stencil was a really good idea if you're talking about merch that can actually be marketed yeah i feel like that is what that is one that would actually sell and people actually might buy and it's cheap to produce yeah i would buy that and and then um and have it in greg's as well that was her suggestion yeah i liked that a lot she thought about it but this is my problem mate because i'm now this is what i'd say if i was in the studio i'd go well this is why the coffee one's good because if you look at the spreadsheets it's actually very cheap to produce and you'd sell quite a lot of them and you can use them easily it's like no it's about fun it's supposed to be about entertainment yeah we're having fun
Starting point is 00:23:36 but i'd buy one of those i'd happily make a greg a greg greg's coffee every day yeah ivo brought in the cheeseball catapult referring to greg's 2010 uh edinburgh show and subsequent uk tour um i thought this was it was great research this i thought yeah it was really good but can you believe there was still a moment where greg was unsure whether to give that catapult or my handcrafted puppet the five points. He actually didn't want to give me five points. He felt obliged because I think maybe because I told him my dad's a huge fan of the show. My dad's for sure. My dad just got Instagram.
Starting point is 00:24:18 And I think he only got it so that when this episode airs, he can post a little video of that puppet in action. He was so adorable about it and proud of it. It was really amazing that he did it. It blows my mind though. So your dad genuinely made that puppet? Yeah, yeah. He's gone a bit mad. He's a writer, but he's very artistic.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Your dad wrote sex books, right? Yes. Oh my God. Good memory. He wrote one, a book called Cooking for Success, which was the seducer's cookbook. Yeah. This is in the 70s. I say sex books.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It's because that is the only sex book you need, I'd say. Yeah. That's the definitive sex book. I'm sure it's a cancelable book now. I haven't, I haven't really read it in detail and I'm sure it's a cancelable book now i haven't i haven't really read it in detail and i'm sure it's problematic but um no then he started making these bizarre puppets in lockdown and they're all kind of different some of them he'll glue his hair onto or he'll take like one of my mom's socks and they're really grotesque and uh yeah very different and then he loves taskmaster and he yeah he really spent months
Starting point is 00:25:27 making that and and uh whittling wood and crafting clay and and um yeah it's pretty uncanny yeah it is i i mean it's just it's an amazing it's an amazing piece of art really i think so and look ivo made the point it looks like lord sugar yeah it does it does and also I think it looked more like Lord Sugar because on Harry Hill's tv show he used to have a puppet of Lord Sugar did he yes that does look a lot like your your dad's puppet of of Greg but oh interesting we've got to push that to the side because it's an amazing it's an amazing piece of work is it merch may if I'm being pernickety is it much yeah it's uh yeah i don't think that merch necessarily has to be like easily mass produced i think it could be like like sometimes you go to a spreadsheet yeah take your spreadsheet like
Starting point is 00:26:17 like uh where was i the other day i don't know like let's say you go to like the disney store yeah there's gonna be a bunch of tat and then there'll be like a two thousand dollar sort of you know like uh yeah it just it might take my dad he can only make a few per year and they'll be really expensive but the true fans can uh can get them it was so cool seeing it sat on greg's lap and seeing them both turn on alex was really like something out of goosebumps or like some yeah yeah halloween something yeah yeah yeah where's the puppet now who who owns the puppet now uh taskmaster owns the puppet they wanted to keep it because they want to film some stuff with it i want it to stay in the house i want it to live in the house i think there's i think it should stay in the house i want it to live in the house i think there's i think it should stay in the house for sure yeah or maybe awful i mean we're all worried about ai taking
Starting point is 00:27:09 over the entertainment industry what if the next series starts and greg's not there it's just a puppet that would be amazing and and we somehow get it to move on its own and yeah that would be really good oh poor greg he's done well he'll be all right he's all right so it was of course five points for your greg davis puppet four points for ivo's cheeseball catapult three points for jenny's coffee stencil two points for kyle's a greg davis morph suit and one point for frankie's concept drawings for a euthanasia beanbag okay we've been on a journey. Who has won the journey? Well, then this is going to surprise you. Not Frankie.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I don't want the Greg Davis death beanbag to be on the market. So is it one point to Frankie? One point. Yes. Kyle, two points. You're joking? Yeah. It's better than yours. Mine was better than yours. OK, two points to Kyle. Jenny gets three points.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I sort of don't want to give... THEY SCREAM ..that horrible thing five points, but I have to acknowledge the amount of work that's gone into it. And you are talking about the puppet, not May. Yeah. So, I'm going to give Ivo four points. You stuck a sticker of Greg's face on a catapult. And that's better than my high-concept death badge.
Starting point is 00:28:28 I've owned an admittedly cheap but well-researched catapult before. OK. And my animated corpse gets fired. Welcome to Martin! Thank you. Every veteran has a story. Starting point is 00:28:55 A message from the Government of Canada. Task 1. Fill the glass up to the line from the furthest distance if you use the hose and someone else uses the hose both hose users are disqualified furthest distance between contestant and pint glass whilst filling wins you have maximum of 20 minutes your time starts now this is the sort of task that would have panicked me immediately may yeah i i went into full meltdown i think not my finest hour uh yeah also one of those beautiful like editing moments on taskmaster were like so funny that both me and kyle immediately impersonated each other for some reason yeah like we both yeah it was so weird i know you're both right you're both right about each other as well i know i know yeah yeah um but i i think
Starting point is 00:29:47 they i i tried to throw like wet toilet paper into the i had weird ideas and yeah uh i mean the most embarrassing was just pouring the glass down that wide gravel slope and then hoping that like a few drops would but at the last minute i remembered the tubes which i always feel a bit cheap using the tubes because they're so handy for so many things but um i love those tubes it gave me horrible flashbacks we'll get that out of the way quickly of trying to send the duck uh down the driveway for champion of champions so just seeing you tape uh drain pipes together really made me shudder but i'm glad someone actually put them to good use yeah and and you got five points because oh my god worst day of my life um yes definitely the you throwing a pint of water in the air as if it was going to then just fill up the pint glass like a cartoon yeah so often you the things you visualize it's clear you have no understanding of like basic sort of physics
Starting point is 00:30:46 yeah yeah like you so often in the show like with the uh the boat race that where we had to make our little boats and i was like convinced mine was going to be a speed demon and like of course it was just a mess yeah um but how good was jenny with the fucking darts yeah i mean it's so the the pipes thing the shame the shame about jenny's is if they'd just shown the balloon uh nestled in the bricks throwing the darts everyone would be like she's an absolute genius but before that they showed her previous attempt which was using pipes but one of them's a solid pole so that was wild that was absolutely insane that it i don't think it ever occurred to her that that like there was never a moment where she went oh right sorry those are solid pipes it was just like well okay that's not working
Starting point is 00:31:35 that was crazy but it's i think it's a good tactic though to be to have one idea see that it's not working and then dumping the whole idea and moving on to another because that's where i struggled with that duck task that we mentioned um i i just got too stubborn you need to be able to be willing to go like right fuck that gotta try something else yeah the second thing she tried was so good it was so good such a good idea and definitely the funnest to watch i think as well yeah imagine if she'd if she'd had that idea to begin with and she'd had the full time to just get further and further away and like i bet she could have got pretty far away and and really hone that yes great outstanding stuff from jenny um ivo again i thought the idea was strong like he sort of he worked it all out he taped the funnel and he was going to
Starting point is 00:32:21 pull the pull the the water down I thought it was a good idea, but he just, he didn't put enough water in the thing. Yeah. I know he was so close. To fill a pint, you need at least a pint. Yeah. Minimum pint. Yeah, he kept gravitating to that Greg statue a lot
Starting point is 00:32:44 over the course of the series yeah he kept checking he kept checking things and the drums he moved all the drums over to the greg statue didn't he for no reason yeah yeah i think it was a sort of deferential thing yeah hoping subconsciously hoping to uh curry favor with his sort of adulation i love that not only have you marked the things you need to talk about in therapy uh because of taskmaster but also you're ticking off other people's as well yeah oh i mean we learned so much about i vote i learned so much about him and but i i always knew because i'd seen him i'd seen the video of him on the weakest link when he was a teenager yes have you seen you've seen that video yeah he played it in one of his shows didn't he and yeah stand-up shows yeah has he
Starting point is 00:33:28 talked about it on this podcast no i'm not sure he mentioned it on here because it just it was a real precursor to this performance like this sort of flustered twitchiness and and just getting humiliated by and what's her name you know the host and robinson and robinson just decimated him but yeah yeah he's such an interesting guy over because he's so funny and has such an amazing wide vocabulary and is such an amazing writer and so precise in the things that he says but the way he says them he's always panicking and flustering so yeah he's so much more charming than he would be if he was just a posh man being able to deliver perfect turns of phrase i think oh completely yeah yeah the fact that there's a little quiver in his voice that just humanizes him yeah yeah he's so so articulate
Starting point is 00:34:16 though like it it added such a great flavor to those studio days because like yeah anytime you'd come to him he'd make just the stupidest task sound so so erudite and like yeah yeah he i mean i think he's he's had a few titles when they take phrases and turn them into the titles of the episodes i don't know the stats that's not my area but definitely this one i think yardstick for failure oh yeah that was so good is ivo's for sure and the the the interplay between him and frankie was always very funny as well because they're two completely different people yeah yeah could not be more different could not be more different and just the way the entire relationship was set up on the first team day when ivo walked in and Frankie completely ignored him yeah yeah yeah it was so good so good and then Ivo sort of being too afraid to correct Frankie if Frankie was all the time yeah doing yeah in that in the um yeah the one with the jelly babies knowing that Frankie's method was insane and
Starting point is 00:35:19 just his his eyebrows twitching yeah Frankie I respect so much, but I don't think this is the way we have to do it. Yeah. So funny. And it was a shame this didn't work out because this was a good idea, but just awfully executed, I think. Yeah. Kyle, again, he did an impression of you.
Starting point is 00:35:38 And then Alex then obviously loved this and made him do impressions of all the other contestants as to what they would do with the hose. But he was right no one else used the hose he then yeah this is my favorite taskmaster trope is someone finding a hack or successfully doing something method-wise and then completely screwing it up i was like jaw dropped in this watching him do that in the studio that that he still was yeah i couldn't believe he didn't just put the that was crazy and then his that his face when uh when alex explains how the hose should be used it's so like that deadpan kind of rage that he does so well yeah
Starting point is 00:36:19 it was so good i mean he was like the bad boy of uh this i think frankie thought he was gonna be the bad boy of the series but actually kyle is so cheeky like he's so cheeky he's so cheeky such a cheeky face like a cheeky little boy's face i know someone uh because kyle was on off menu recently uh and my friend uh sent me a message saying oh did you did you talk about Junior Spech? And I said, oh, I'm not sure I know what Junior Spech is. And then I realized what it was. It was when Kyle was like a viral star quite early on in his career, like years ago when he was much younger. And it's a song about £1.50 chicken and chips.
Starting point is 00:37:04 And you see him in the background bopping and i mean obviously same face but it's without the facial hair and it's and much younger and he's just such a he looks about four years old he's so cheeky that guy he's always gonna look for yeah he's so sweet his face yeah he kept um we had charlotte richie come and watch one of the records she she came she was in the studio and the studio audience immediately clocked her and then and greg and so everyone just kept asking her after each task like who she liked more me or kyle and like really putting her on this one but kyle's cheeky face like he kept just because before the recording she said oh just don't embarrass me you know like it felt like we had our our parent there or like you know throuple girlfriend that we were well yeah on
Starting point is 00:37:49 screen lover that's now a uh that's now a prerequisite for taskmaster is you have been an on-screen romance with charlotte richie yeah so who who else is there this well i've already suggested the uh the lead actor from you oh yeah yeah he's a long shot he seems like a long shot he seems like he'd be deadly serious too um frankie's idea is very frankie which i think he claims he's putting the bubbles in to soften the glass when it goes into the water and it's going to magically fill up but i think he just wanted to smash that glass yeah i think so too i mean i love the sort of whimsical idea of like of bubbles being it's like thinking that clouds are something you can bounce on like it's so it's so cute yeah um but then like his when he digs in about the like head when he gets pedantic about like the full versus like
Starting point is 00:38:46 you know submerged and it could be it's past the line because it's outside of there or but he still picks and chooses what he is pedantic about because he'll like battle me on something but then like he's like a banana the word banana is a banana but that helped me with my pineapple situation yes of course it did with the pineapples the drawing of the pineapples which if I was in that studio I would have been very angry with you yeah I know I was angry watching it I once now that I watched the whole series I and then it got to that task I realized no this is not this should not fly I can't believe it was allowed yeah there was so many pineapples greg often just sort of gave me points to piss off kyle i think yeah because kyle indignant is very funny very funny if you get him to go what just like really angry yeah it's always just no no
Starting point is 00:39:38 no no no no that way are you joking that as well a lot um now i i assume you tried this may did you try moving the line on on the pint glass no no that's genius but i don't know because i can't see how is it stuck on or is it painted on because no it was just stuck on it was just tape fuck that's so smart of course i should have done that yeah move the line right to the bottom and then you could yeah yeah or make a new line make a new line like yeah that yeah move the line right to the bottom and then you could yeah yeah or make a new line make a new line like yeah and yeah you're so right yeah but you know these things you know i i thought of that when i was just chilled out watching it on my laptop you know pressure yeah oh my god the adrenaline just makes you get your feet out and try to put them on an
Starting point is 00:40:21 egg it's so insane did you try getting your feet out for this one i feel like you've got your feet out and try to put them on an egg it's so insane did you try getting your feet out for this one i feel like you've got your feet out probably yeah i try to like um so it was nought points for frankie nought points for kyle uh nought points for ivo uh four points for jenny and five points for you mate this is when it really you know in the final episode if you're bagging points when when some really, you know, in the final episode, if you're bagging points when some other people are getting nought, that's when you know you've got it in the bag. I feel like no-one else is going to use the hose.
Starting point is 00:40:55 Even though you might get disqualified if someone else uses the hose. No risk, no reward. Is that true? I don't know. Right, if I'm someone else and I've read that... Who are you pretending to be? Me. What are you doing? I'm not going to use the hose. It's too scary. I'd quite like you to be Frankie now.
Starting point is 00:41:14 I think that the hose should be left alone. I'll do the rest, just cos I'm here. Yeah, Ivo. Hose? Er... No, I don't think so. Well, maybe... No. No, I'm here. Yeah, Ivo. Hose. Uh, well, no, I don't think so. Uh, well, maybe, no. No, I'm not going to use the hose. And then Jenny. Uh, Jenny. Where is the hose?
Starting point is 00:41:32 Where is it? I can't be bothered with it. I've changed my mind. Right, you're going to use the hose then. Yes. Nobody else is going to do this. No way, hosey. Task two.
Starting point is 00:41:42 This was just chaos. Do what Alex does. Immediately after alex does it in exactly the same time as alex does it you must press your button when you're satisfied you have done what alex has done if you do not complete an activity 10 seconds will be added to your time closest to the same total time wins your time starts when alex presses his button yeah i needed that explained to me like 15 times just because it was so confusing. You can see on my face when he says, oh, we're basically playing chess. And I go, oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:12 But that still made no sense to me. I was like, we're not. I think saying it's chess makes it more confusing. Yeah. Cause I'm so glad that they put this task in the final episode. Cause it was just like a perfect summation of everyone's character the fact that kyle just stole the code for the box yeah i think i would have done something similar to that i mean i would have panicked but what i definitely wouldn't have done though which a couple of people did is somehow fuck up on the first one where you're eating a banana it's clearly
Starting point is 00:42:43 you have 30 seconds you just have to press your button after 30 seconds yeah people were running over or taking more time to eat a banana than they should have done yeah but kyle's weird about eating stuff and yes as we've seen yeah with the jelly babies and like he doesn't want to feel sick ever or i think maybe it's a phobia of like throwing up or something because yeah or being full something like that or being full yeah yeah because or it was on Kyle's therapy list yeah definitely yeah yeah he needs exposure therapy yeah but yeah he it was like he was playing chicken with himself like I'm gonna eat this banana really slowly and then catch up later or something like that yeah
Starting point is 00:43:19 and and Jenny of course had had four bananas already that day. Yeah. So that explains why she ate a bit slower. Yeah. We'll talk about Ivor. I mean, I think Ivor's just... Personally, I'm surprised Ivor got four points because it looked like the biggest disaster to me. Frankie, character-wise, he stamped on the box to open it. So that sums him up, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:43:41 Very in keeping, yeah, with his character. Jenny going... Yeah, i think calling him a saying you fucking freak when when uh when being asked to use the vaseline and then me just characteristically kind of intense and humorless yeah just like absolutely i'd say like clinical and calm in this task thank you so much thanks really stressed by the math um i love that ivo why did he put the the rubber bands on his eyes on his eyes because everything ivo's done in this series he has done unnecessary things that get in his own way every single time completely and he was setting up the drums by the the uh the statue for no reason it's covering your your eyes
Starting point is 00:44:26 in in rubber bands it's going into the kitchen even though you've got two seconds to get back to the lab with all the spoons yeah it's um making a seven minute egg for alex when you you could just deposit money in his account like yeah or or you could just do the task yeah wild he and he was he was for sure my my pick to win at the beginning of the series was he yours no absolutely not it was you do you know you know him too well i know i know him too well and i he's brilliant and i i'm he did win some episodes which uh is great but somehow still came uh still come rock bottom but um yeah i know he gets flustered uh and panics and also sometimes i think Ivo's Ivo's more
Starting point is 00:45:07 he is competitive but he's also constantly battling between being competitive and being funny yeah I think there's a couple of times where he might have deliberately I think the the rubber bands over the eyes in this he did that because he thought it would be funny yeah well it was it was really good yeah and of course the live task which i think is my highlight the whole series the live task where everyone does an impression of jenny's walk and iva doesn't have to but he just does it because he thinks yeah that killed me that was so funny i loved it um but he didn't he didn't open the box this was his own fault he didn't open the box he didn't have the gloves and then his he sort of managed to get the banana skin into the vaseline pot
Starting point is 00:45:49 but then still ended up with vaseline all over his hands it was like a horror film it was horrible yeah it was it was the whole task was pretty like just in those glaring lights and and with the rubber bands and the vaseline and it was all a bit a bit intense and horrific but yeah yeah the vast him covered in vaseline and that the sound of it on the balloon i would nobody really commented on the fact that kyle knows how to make a balloon dog like just did it effortlessly yeah that was so cool imagine jenny's was funny because he was uh jenny's like oh it's a dog curled up in his basket but yeah did it perfectly i know he's like a imagine what a fun uncle he'd be yeah he must have all these tricks up his sleeve i feel like he can like make coins disappear and do cool things
Starting point is 00:46:39 and yeah yeah him stealing the uh stealing the thing just like he stole the gold pen. And he's just like a cheeky, cheeky guy. Cheeky little guy. Jenny did have a bit of a disaster here. But Jenny's reaction to a popping balloon, I think is going to live with me forever. Yeah. Anytime she screams. Yeah, I love her scream. I love her cackle.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Such a contagious laugh. Like, laugh like yeah yeah she's the best yeah but no one came out of this with dignity apart from potentially you you remain you did remain pretty calm it felt like you'd done this before is what it felt like um i liked that i liked that it was i liked that it it was clear what you had to do that there was there wasn't much sort of open-endedness it was like do this exactly as i've just done it i liked i like those parameters and you did you did do that because i've missed something and had penalties uh frankie did something wrong deliberately just to speed it up i think you did everything as it should be thanks and you almost because you did that were were slower than yeah
Starting point is 00:47:47 because you wanted to do everything right well yeah if you think about it if you it's only a 10 second penalty if you don't do something so you could have not done anything yeah that was my that was my thought how could you have won by doing nothing and just hitting the button at the right time when a Alex hit the button. Jack Bernhardt is the Tasmaster statistician. We'll leave all the maths to him. Oh, yeah. It might be a way of doing it. In our WhatsApp thread, we've got a lot of screenshotting Jack Bernhardt's tweets.
Starting point is 00:48:16 Of course. Yeah, a lot of Kyle fuming. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jenny got one point. Kyle got two points. You Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jenny got one point. Kyle got two points. You got three points, Mae. Four points for Ivo somehow
Starting point is 00:48:31 and five points for the violence-stamping Frankie. Ivo, do you think there was something you did that might have sabotaged your attempt a little? Narrow it down. It was the moment where you blinded yourself with the last of buns. When I was on the train about five hours after this task, someone on the train asked if I'd been in an accident.
Starting point is 00:48:56 It sort of looked like an Anne Summers party that had gone wrong. You know, the balloons and the Vaseline and all that. Yeah, I'd gone right. Oh, very. Very right. Task three, the final filmed task of the entire series, series 15, and what a series it's been. Write the name of a profession in this hole, then open the task.
Starting point is 00:49:17 And it turns out you had to perform an original lullaby for the profession that you'd written. Your team picked artist, and Frankie and i've picked dog walker uh most soporific profession specific lullaby wins you have 30 minutes your time starts now this this was kind of i mean they were both had things to recommend them i think i love that i love that your team picked artist i think that said said a lot about your team yeah we were we were really trying to guess
Starting point is 00:49:46 what the task was gonna be. And that felt like that we thought we're gonna have to do what the profession was and maybe we could do art. But I really loved Frankie and Ivo's. It was kind of like, yeah, folky, shanty. It was so, someone should remix that. It was really good. It definitely felt, it did feel so horrific.
Starting point is 00:50:05 I mean, Greg seemed to have a problem with some of the content of the lyrics about putting a dog to sleep and all this sort of stuff. But what are you going to do? I'd imagine Ivo tried his best to curb some of that when Frankie was suggesting lyrics. I don't know what the original lyrics would have been. I know.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Well, a lot of fairy tales are about killing children and stuff stuff aren't they so yeah kids can handle it they yeah um and ivo ivo sleeping is so sweet that i think it immediately dilutes all of the horror in the lyrics i know and frankie having him on a leash was kind of interesting the battle between that team of ivo being like I'll just be asleep and Frankie going I'm gonna put a leash on you I'm gonna put a collar on you yeah yeah um and the the very inventive using the dog poo bags as a sort of uh maraca situation oh yeah that was good yeah that was really good and then Kyle and I were excited to to be on task together. He's so musical. And we got really, and Jenny sort of early on was like, her job would be just to make a list of colors. And that was kind of good that she was occupied doing that. And then even I wrote down some of her like, some of the things she, what is Mars black? That was one of the colors that she listed at the end mars black and then
Starting point is 00:51:25 french ultramarine they were pretty rogue choices yeah yeah i think jenny does do art doesn't she i think she she might paint and things like that so i think she she does know what she's talking about when it comes to colors uh yeah but mars black is that a thing black i don't know mars red wouldn't it be well i'm gonna google it we're gonna have to find out let's do a little google yeah mars black uh mars black is a denser more neutral black with stronger tinting power oh my god i take it all back she's a genius i didn't know there were different types of black yeah yeah i thought you know black's black i didn't think it could get any blacker yeah i thought black was the absence of color yeah apparently not it's a denser more neutral black with stronger power um there you go you were wrong you were wrong to doubt her
Starting point is 00:52:15 um i do i do think that without you on guitar that it would have been a very different song i feel like you were doing a lot of heavy lifting with that guitar thanks because otherwise it would have been kyle tapping some sticks and jenny sort of mumbling colors yeah yeah i did a lot of jazzy dreamy chords i tried to uh yeah the bubbles i thought we had a good we had a nice vibe yeah you definitely you nailed the lullaby aspect of it i think and it sort of had that folky sort of uh distant floaty sort of almost yeah modern american folk thing that yeah i was into it i'd listen to it again we liked um saying you're loved baby artist i thought that was a really sweet moment yeah a lullaby that says you're you is so nice. It is nice. I think some of that was definitely ruined by the fact that the baby had a paintbrush sticking out of its head.
Starting point is 00:53:12 Yeah, and the lyrics were about it breathing in fumes and like breathing in turpentine and like, yeah. You are a loved baby artist. But you're loved, yeah. Well, they were both lovely. And I do like it when a series ends, when the last film task, both teams do well or everyone does quite well. Yeah. You know, it's a nice, warm, fuzzy way to end a series.
Starting point is 00:53:35 But it was four points for Ivo and Frankie and the big five for you, Jenny and Cael. and Kyle. tired. Sleep baby artist, your pains have expired. Your breathing in tubes will give you a burn. You're our baby artist, your loved baby artist tonight Aquamarine Cadmium yellow Viridian Mars black Burnt umber
Starting point is 00:54:46 Pink blue More sienna Light ochre Alizarin crimson Magenta French ultramarine Sterolium Blue
Starting point is 00:55:12 Let's talk about the final live task did you enjoy doing the live tasks may oh in general yeah but this one i didn't quite i didn't quite get and uh i didn't really understand how i could stand not in the ice when the ice was taking up the whole area so i was like i was like well my my legs are gonna it's gonna be obvious that i'm not standing the ice because you'd have to stand like in a different position i got really confused i should have just at the last second i stepped out of the ice having stepped into it right yeah i should have just stayed in it yes so this task was of course convince the taskmaster that your feet are not in ice when they are in ice or that your feet aren't in ice when they
Starting point is 00:56:03 are in ice you must keep your feet either in ice or not in ice for 30 seconds before the taskmaster makes his judgment if the taskmaster is correct you are disqualified last player standing wins i mean it wasn't just you who had an unsuccessful final live task here yeah because i'd imagine they'd planned for this to run maybe three or four rounds yeah yeah that's oh you're right you're probably right yeah that's so true and we all just yeah everyone's Jenny was the only one and I think she'd like triple quadruple bluffed it yeah by going oh no oh and Greg thinking oh she's trying to pretend she's in ice but she's not in ice but she was in ice so she's just overacting so that's the game really I mean it's a tricky one i'm very bad
Starting point is 00:56:45 at these sorts of tasks we had uh we had a breadstick one uh where we had aprons with breadsticks on uh and that was our final live task and i was i got knocked out straight away and you can see me sat on the bench absolutely livid trying to do the maths to see if i've won the whole series or not wait what was the what were the breadsticks doing i think some of them were whole breadsticks and there was maybe one half breadstick i think it was like that it was like drawing a short straw and i immediately immediately got found out just any sort of pressurized acting task the same champion of champions we had to do bricks or balloons in our in our suitcases um and in fact that worked out similar to you guys because i think greg got everyone the first four
Starting point is 00:57:28 of us right and then richard herring was the last and he got that wrong and richard won the whole episode um it's funny though that's why i like taskmasters sometimes it won't go the way the production company thought it was going to go and it might just be a bit and they just have to roll with it yeah yeah yeah and. Yeah. And especially. Yeah. Alex is so invested in those live tasks at the end. And so desperate for them to be a hit. There were a couple like that where he was.
Starting point is 00:57:53 I think the musical chairs he was really. Yeah. Really excited about. And then they go differently. And yeah. I love it. Well look. Jenny wins.
Starting point is 00:58:04 And Jenny wins the episode on a tie break, which I'd imagine by this point, mate, you're not going to begrudge Jenny winning that episode, are you? On the tie break? No, I know. Not at all. I wish someone else had won the whole thing. I mean, I don't. But like, I, of course, you don't. No, I mean, of course course i was desperate to win but i i hated um going going up and
Starting point is 00:58:28 receiving all the prizes yes at the end of an episode is is it's hard to to make that funny and uh yeah um no i was happy jenny won and uh yeah like absolutely fizzing in my blood with the knowledge that i'd won the series, but like trying not to show on my face, like the true glee and, uh, yeah. So excited to tell a Charlotte that I'd beaten Kyle.
Starting point is 00:58:53 Yeah. Cause you must've known at the time, scores wise, you must've known by the end of this episode. I mean, probably by the end of the previous episode that you had it, you had it wrapped up. Right.
Starting point is 00:59:03 I thought so. Yeah. Well, but you never, you never know, know but yeah but definitely halfway through this episode the final episode i was like okay yeah you got it so pumped and also my dad genuinely is such a fan of the show that that was nice he's he loves it they've been watching it every week oh great in canada and sending me but yeah and it's it really explains like where i get my approach from because they're not at all interested in anyone being funny they want the tasks completed like to their utmost correct capability yeah correctly so that's i get that feedback from
Starting point is 00:59:35 my parents yeah so you did draw with jenny in this episode with 18 points uh but jenny won on the tie break scream the loudest with your mouth closed um using a vase which i don't know if that helped or not but uh she did very very well um and it was ivo on 12 points frankie on 10 points and kyle on nine points meaning the series scores the final series scores ivo is in bottom place with 131 points Frankie quite a few points ahead of him on 150 Jenny in third on 152 Kyle in second on 158 strong grouping there for those three and then you way out in front 174 points the champion thank you so much yeah I'm I'm really pumped for a champion of champions that's to be wicked.
Starting point is 01:00:25 So who would I be against then? Because this is the... Well, let's work it out. Sarah Kendall. Sarah Kendall, Dara O'Briain, Morgana Robinson, and... Sophie Duker? Sophie Duker. Iconic.
Starting point is 01:00:41 And Sophie Duker. Yeah, that is a very strong lineup. Do you fancy your chances? and who do you think your biggest threat is i think me and dara have a very similar approach yeah very with that intense and um and sir kendall as well yeah i think those are my two biggest threats dara and sarah i would say yeah well it all it all comes down to this for me. How many episodes is it going to be? Because when we did it, it was one episode.
Starting point is 01:01:09 So it was sort of all up for grabs. Different approaches. You can't have an approach that sustains across a few episodes. You need to come in all guns blazing. So it could be any of you. Because you're all obviously very strong. I feel like you or Dara are the front runners but then also i think you never know with morgana because she's so wild yeah that if the right tasks crop up she's
Starting point is 01:01:34 absolutely going to smash everyone else out the park did you get in your head about like having watched your season were you like i'm gonna right the wrongs of my past and go in with a different attitude or did it once you got there you just went full i went full i panicked i went all in i dressed up as a dog i don't know why i did that yeah i went mad basically and one day is it's impossible to know how well you've done or what you're doing really which is why the the prize task is so important i'd say champion yeah if it's one episode yeah what a great show what a great show i was like the best the most fun i've ever had the definitely the best job i've ever done i loved i was so sad to not i just wish my life was just tasks and like it's so calming and clear to be like this is what i have to achieve and not waking up in the morning being
Starting point is 01:02:23 like i could do anything yeah i loved it well look let's do an escape room together soon and then we can we can make our lives Taskmaster now listen to this although we rejoice in you as champion May Martin and this is your lap of honor unfortunately the whims of taskmaster sometimes mean that your time in the sun is cruelly snatched away early when they announce a new series lineup which i believe they have done and what's very exciting for the listener is we're recording this you know two or three weeks before the final episode actually comes out of this series may does not know the series 16 lineup but i have the series 16 lineup in front of me would you like to hear it may yeah i'm so excited i genuinely because i've i've been out of i feel like if
Starting point is 01:03:16 you're in london you kind of catch wind of who of your friends are doing it and you kind of hear but i've been out of london so i have no idea do you know i i've i've heard i've heard this okay and they've got it right here here we go okay i'm gonna i'm trying to work out which order to do them in i should probably yeah actually they are presented here in alphabetical order but i i feel like the first person doing it to me is the person i'm most excited about so um yeah okay uh julian clary no way oh my god what oh my god that's incredible television that's so exciting already and then when you hear the people that julian clary is with you never thought you'd hear julian clary on a list with these people okay hit me lucy beaumont great amazing yeah sam campbell no oh my god oh my god i'm so happy for sam and for the world yeah i mean we've always wanted to
Starting point is 01:04:17 see how sam campbell and julian clary interact with each other so i can't imagine this uh and two two very strong people still to come uh susan wacoma oh my god what this is great sue perkins holy shit what a lineup what a lineup and i mean okay there's some you know big stars on that list and then also i think for people in the comedy community to see sam campbell yeah thrown in there is is amazing he's like the comedian's comedian he's his brain is insane wow and i think he'll take it pretty seriously yeah but he really is one of the most creative people i i know and and his brain works like no one else. I'm fixating on Sam. Yes. That's amazing.
Starting point is 01:05:07 It's very exciting. I mean, look, you've just found out we don't know how any of these people really would be in a Taskmaster situation. Do you have any predictions as to who you think might flourish? Yeah. I think in terms of like a sort of forensic approach
Starting point is 01:05:24 and a highly competitive approach, I think Sue Perkins could easily take it. I think she's a big poker player. Like, yeah, I know she's competitive. She's so funny. Okay, so she could take it. And then I think Sam could take it, although there's a chance he's going to be like an Ivo presence. Like he's going to get flustered andreg will delight in like torturing him um julian what will that be like we don't know this is why it's so exciting i feel like yeah like how are they gonna edit that into
Starting point is 01:06:02 the family friendly version because julian is like filthy it's in his puns and yeah that's gonna be yeah i've seen julian in the in the palladium panto many times and it's you know a family audience and he just says whatever and it's still absolutely yeah it's not even in the end there'sers anymore yeah i susan wacoma i think could do really well lucy she's great yeah lucy's a mystery to me in terms of how her brain works i think i think she she'll be so funny and deadpan yeah um yeah but so she's super smart lucy so i think i think she's definitely definitely a dark horse when it comes to taskmaster so we don't know but I think it's a lineup uh that for the first time in a long time I've got an absolutely no idea yeah yeah yeah who's gonna do well does this mean they've already filmed it they have already filmed it I think they finished the studios on Friday
Starting point is 01:06:59 I got it just gone I'm gonna email Sam right now yeah and the fact that I'm saying email because I don't think he even owns a phone like I mean he does like but he's he really is like from another era or planet like we I mean he one time for my birthday he animated a full cartoon for me with an original song that he'd written oh wow like I had told him an anecdote from my childhood about when my brother sang me a song about that i was small or something and then sam just went away and animated a full cartoon and emailed it to me like he's so creative and it's effortless he's very creative and taskmaster fans might want to know actually in series seven uh james acaster for one of the prize tasks brings in a drawing that someone has done of him
Starting point is 01:07:47 where he's got two dicks. I think I'm right in saying that's what the drawing is. And that is a Sam Campbell original. So we've already seen some of Sam's work on Taskmaster. That's good niche knowledge. Yeah, I think we'll get some visual art for sure from him. Yeah, definitely. But all very exciting. But for for now may you you are the reigning champ so you need to get that open top bus and you need to travel around the world with it um we always ask our
Starting point is 01:08:15 guests on the taskmaster podcast to rate their experience on the taskmaster podcast between one and five we all know that your experience on taskmaster in general is five out of five but specifically this podcast please in the style of the taskmaster give me a point score definitely five yeah yeah this is great this is great we we meandered we always came back to our focus and i loved it it's an honor that's a very may martin way of describing it going like look we had we did have some fun, but yes, we got done what we needed to get done. We didn't stray too far from our objective and we did make sure that we checked off all the boxes.
