Tech Over Tea - #72 I Guess I'm A Hypocrite Now | Solo
Episode Date: July 14, 2021YouTube comments are always a sight to behold and I guess I'm a hypocrite now, that's news to me. I didn't know I help a position of Free Software that I didn't hold. Moving on from that I talk about ...some more games and also the new keyboard I finally decided to buy. ==========Support The Channel========== ► Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/brodierobertson ► Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/BrodieRobertsonVideo ► Amazon USA: https://amzn.to/3d5gykF ► Other Methods: https://cointr.ee/brodierobertson =========Video Platforms========== 🎥 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBq5p-xOla8xhnrbhu8AIAg =========Audio Release========= 🎵 RSS: https://anchor.fm/s/149fd51c/podcast/rss 🎵 Apple Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tech-over-tea/id1501727953 🎵 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3IfFpfzlLo7OPsEnl4gbdM 🎵 Google Podcast: https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8xNDlmZDUxYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw== 🎵 Anchor: https://anchor.fm/tech-over-tea ==========Social Media========== 🎤 Discord:https://discord.gg/PkMRVn9 🐦 Twitter: https://twitter.com/TechOverTeaShow 📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/techovertea/ 🌐 Mastodon:https://mastodon.social/web/accounts/1093345 ==========Credits========== 🎨 Channel Art: All my art has was created by Supercozman https://twitter.com/Supercozman https://www.instagram.com/supercozman_draws/ DISCLOSURE: Wherever possible I use referral links, which means if you click one of the links in this video or description and make a purchase we may receive a small commission or other compensation.

Good morning, good day, good evening.
I am as always your host, Brodie Robertson.
And I was waiting for the audio file to actually appear inside of my file manager
before I actually started speaking.
Because there's been a couple of times lately where I think that I've started recording
and I actually haven't.
Luckily, those were for like, you know, short clips in an actual video.
So like, I lost a minute of content, I lost like
30 seconds of content, not
I lost two hours
of content because I'm dumb
um, just had to make sure
it was starting
yeah, so
I didn't know how to start this stream
I usually sit there for
a couple of minutes being like, do I want to
start like this, do I want to talk about this topic? that topic?
I usually don't like to get directly into topics straight away
unless there's some like really big topic
that I need to talk about
and I had an idea
and then I decided to
shelf that idea because I got
a way better idea
I got a way better idea
because someone left a
really dumb comment, like a
actually, maybe step back for a second and, like, re-evaluate your life choices kind of comment. So,
uh, not, okay, not as bad as the other one that I got, but this guy's been, uh, getting on my nerves
recently. So, he said, uh, okay, full context.'s been getting on my nerves recently. So he said,
okay, full context. Someone said to me, hey, unrelated to the video, but I think you should
stream Persona 4 Golden. I'm guessing he saw the podcast from last week where I mentioned that I
bought it during the Steam sale. So yeah, not related to the video. That was on my co-pilot
video. Not related to the video at all. But I'm happy to answer the question.
I was like, yep, I'm considering it.
I don't know whether I'm going to stream Golden.
Golden's a very long game.
It will take probably like half a year at the rate that I stream.
So I'm not really sure whether I want to.
But definitely considering it.
I will be playing it in my spare time otherwise.
And then the comment I got as a reply is,
Hypocrite alert, professes the importance of freedom, yet it's considering to promote proprietary games.
Now, the funny thing about this guy is every single comment he leaves, no matter how dumb the comment is,
always has one like on it.
no matter how dumb the comment is, always has one like on it.
Now, I don't know about you, but I have a feeling he might be liking his own comments because they get a like within a minute of them going live.
Maybe he just has like a bunch of fans following him around,
always upvoting his comments.
Very possible.
But considering that most comments in a YouTube comment section
don't have any ratings on them whatsoever,
I'm going to have to guess that he upvotes his own comments
to make them look like someone's actually agreeing with him.
Yeah, so he complained that I was going to play Persona 4 Golden
even though I talk about free software and i promote free
software my response to this was and you have a bank account like even stallman even stallman who
is you know was okay was the leader of the fsf and is like the face of the free software movement
even stallman has a bank account and I guarantee the bank account he's with doesn't operate on free software
do you know how I know that?
because none of the banks operate on free software
because there's just not
banking software to do that
so even Stallman
is willing to use proprietary software
and yeah
I don't think that
Atlas is going to start releasing
their games as free software.
And I want to play those games.
So, do I not play those games in the hope that one day Atlus will?
Or do I accept the way that reality is
and accept that while a lot of software can be made free software
and should be,
and I'm more than happy to promote that, you know, like say a text editor, a browser,
your operating system, your video recorder, things like that.
I'll promote those as like the options that are free software,
or if there are any free software options, at least the open source option.
And for things that will never be free software, I'll just accept it as it is.
That's the boat that I'm in.
I'm willing to accept that some battles will never even be started.
There's not even like, oh, will it be one?
No, that battle is just never going to be started.
You're not going to be able to turn the entire world of proprietary software into free software.
But that doesn't mean there isn't some benefit
in encouraging more free software.
I think that taking a step in the correct direction
is better than getting stuck at the starting point,
being confused why nobody else is agreeing with
you wrong i know that there's a lot of people especially like hardcore free software guys who
are really against the idea of making some compromise to get progress in the correct
direction but i'm willing to accept compromise in like especially in this case like i'm not going
to just not play video games because they're not
free software. If that's what you wanna do,
if, like, you wanna live a, like,
if you wanna try to live a utopian
free software life, be my
guest. I don't care what other
people do. That's fine.
But,
I wanna play some
some Persona.
So, I'm gonna play some persona.
Let's see if we can find some other comments this guy left because they're all lots of fun.
Because a couple of people whinge last time I showed a name,
I'm not gonna show the person's name, even though you can very easily find it by just going to the video
I mentioned and looking for the comment that I said.
Oh wow, that's actually a good comment.
Wow, that's a first.
He left a comment that was actually positive.
So, another thing that he got really annoyed about
was with the RMS video I did recently.
In that RMS video, I was basically...
Actually, I'll show you the article.
Words to avoid.
I don't have hotkeys set up in this one, do I?
No.
So this is an article talking about... It's from the GNU website.
Presumably written by Stallman and other people in the GNU Foundation.
Talking about words to avoid or use with care.
Did I say GNU Foundation?
I meant free software
foundation, words to
avoid or use with care because they are loaded
or confusing
and a lot of the words in here that
Thorman or whoever
else was involved in writing this
suggested as being confusing
and then suggested the alternative for
in many cases the
alternative was actually more confusing. I just realized the way I said that was
nonsense. A lot of the words that had an alternative, the alternative was worse.
There we go, that's a much more succinct way to say that. And one of the ones in
here was alternative, where basically the argument was that if you describe, say,
proprietary software as, oh sorry, if you describe, say, proprietary software as,
oh sorry, if you describe free software as an alternative to proprietary software,
what you're effectively doing is saying that proprietary software and free software are morally equal.
And by doing that, you're effectively, I guess, throwing away the work that the Free Software Foundation has done
to try to promote free software by...
Rather than just make...
Rather than saying that free software is the only correct way to do stuff,
saying that there's different ways to do stuff.
Now, the reason why I completely disagree with this point,
also the fact that if um, if you say something
is an alternative, you're saying that they're both good options. I don't know if I said that already,
but that's also one of the main points. Um, the problem though, is that's not what alternative
means. Alternative simply means that there is a different option to what you're currently using.
So my example in the video specifically was that,
what was it?
It was that a bed of nails is an alternative to shoes.
And that is 100% true.
A bed of nails is an alternative to shoes.
Is it a good alternative?
No, it is not.
But just saying the word alternative doesn't indicate
whether what you're saying the other option is actually is good or not.
And this is the argument that he was getting very stuck up on.
And he left a comment on another, after doing like a massive back and forth, where I just kept sort of gaming him for the algorithm, which is always fun.
him for the algorithm, which is always fun. He left another comment after I said that
the alternatives to... what was it? At the end of the day, for anyone who doesn't care about GitHub mining their code, keep using it, but there's so many good alternatives that complaining
about it doesn't make sense. And then he said, need I roast you for the use of the word alternative
yet again? And my response to that is, please do. It's good for the algorithm.
Surprisingly, I got a positive comment
from that. So hey, he is a good sport as well.
I thought he was
just going to be trolling me. But no, he actually is just
a hardcore free software
guy that doesn't accept any
other opinion. But he is willing
to joke a bit
about it, which I can
respect, not expect. Yeah, respect is the word I'm thinking of there which I can respect, not expect.
Yeah, respect is the word I'm thinking of there.
I can respect that position.
He said, you're such a good sport, Brody.
We need more hackers like you.
Not a hacker, but I'll take the compliment.
Yeah.
Actually, because I'm talking about videos
that came out recently,
I want to talk about the uh
the copilot copilot copilot video so if you don't know what github copilot is basic actually the
website um basically what it is is a gpt uh gpt3 powered ai pair programmer uh gpt3 is basically um it's a massive ai project that is aiming to take over
the world or whatever whatever you do with neural networks these days um i forgot what the name was
for a second maybe i need an ai pair programmer um so your ai pair programmer with GitHub Copilot gets suggestions for whole lines or entire functions right inside your editor.
And you know what?
Really cool tool.
Absolutely amazing tool.
The problem, though, is there have been many instances where it's been regurgitating code that is licensed in a way that may get you sued. So it's been regurgitating
some GPL code. Now, this is a problem because if you regurgitate GPL code into a proprietary
project, well, now you have GPL code in there. And that's not good because if your code has gpl code in it that code also must be gpled
that's a simplified way of saying it but effectively if you have gpl code in your project
legally you need to make that code free software and uh github doesn't really um doesn't really think this is much of an issue.
Because they just allowed the neural network to be trained on GPL code.
So, I'm worried for the future of development.
I know there's people talking about, oh, GitHub Copilot is going to like steal developer jobs, all that. And one day, yeah, some sort of AI system like this will
absolutely be able to replace human developers. If you think that development is somehow never
going to be automated, you are absolutely out of your mind. Anything that can be automated will be automated at some point.
And while development is a creative task,
I don't think that it's...
I don't think that it's outside the realm of AI.
I look at AI as a very...
What would be the word for it?
I look at AI in sort of a...
Or AI and also
human creativity
in a very
I guess mechanistic would be the best
word
I don't know what the word
I'd be using for, but
I don't think there's anything special about the way
that humans approach problems
that can't be replicated by a machine
maybe that will turn out to be inaccurate and one way that humans approach problems that can't be replicated by a machine. Maybe that
will turn out to be inaccurate, and
one day we'll find out that the magic gooey
stuff in our brain isn't just a bunch of
electrical signals... uh, signacles?
A bunch of electrical
signals going back and forth. Maybe it
actually is magical stuff
in our brain doing whatever...
I don't know, connecting to, like, the
DMT hive mind or something, I don't know.
But, unless that assumption is correct, I'm going to be under the assumption that anything can be automated with a complex enough system.
So, I'm not worried about Copilot doing that yet.
GPT-3 is very, very far away.
Maybe GPT-4, GPT-5, but...
I don't...
Yeah, at this stage, I don't think it's going to happen.
The point that I'm worried about with Copilot, though,
is new developers basically using it
without really thinking about
the legal
ramifications that can
come along with doing so.
The problem that we have is that
code synthesis is in
one of those very
grey legal areas.
I know
more than I wish I knew.
About fucking US copyright.
Because I did an entire assignment.
Based around AI.
And US copyright.
I obviously don't know enough to be a lawyer.
But I know more than like the average person.
And.
AI is in this very weird.
Legal grey spot.
Where we're not really sure how to actually treat the system.
We don't know if we should be treating the AI system as a tool.
Like, say, if you were to, I don't know, plagiarize someone else's book.
And you did that with a computer.
The computer isn't treated as some separate entity that can be sued. It's not like if you use a Dell computer to, you know,
plagiarize a book and then go and sell that book,
that Dell can be sued for that.
Because it's thought that the tool that you're using
can only get that task done because you're the one controlling it.
So that's the way that most traditional things work.
But there's also this So that's the way that most traditional things work. But there's
also this idea that maybe the AI system should be treated as its own separate entity, like as if
it's someone else doing the plagiarism. So if, say, your friend was to plagiarize a book,
you wouldn't be the one to actually be at fault for that. The way this would effectively work is,
be at fault for that.
The way this would effectively work is at least one of the methods
it would work is if, say, Copilot
was to, I don't know, plagiarize
the Quake code, for example, and
put that into a proprietary game
engine, then it would be the
company behind the AI system that would be at
fault for doing so. And
at this stage, because of how
rudimentary AI systems have been
really up until maybe
the past 10 years, lore is very far behind on how to actually approach this situation.
So there's an article right here from The Verge, actually, that I presume sums it up
well.
GitHub's automatic coding tool rests on untested legal ground.
Yeah. Also, there's
an about page here, which I talked about in the video,
where when
you try to get it to generate an about page,
sometimes it will just
literally output
part of someone else's about page,
including their GitHub and Twitter link.
Which is amusing. Very amusing.
Hmm. Including their GitHub and Twitter link. Which is amusing. Very amusing. Apparently the about page was.
Supposedly generated for a fake person.
But it linked to an actual GitHub profile.
That's beautiful.
I'm not surprised that my public repositories.
Are part of training data for Copilot.
Yeah.
Well if your code is on GitHub. it's part of the training data.
I'm not going to read all this on the podcast.
But this is a really, really questionable legal ground to be on.
Because if you derive...
Okay, so if I was to take GPL code,
right okay so if i was to take gpl code and then i basically copy that into an mit project that would be a violation of the gpl license now if you were to train a network on gpl code and
other code as well and then it outputs a new block of code but it has
segments, not just one line
segments but significant segments
like for example
it outputted the
fast inverse square root from
the quake code
if it outputs a significant segment like
that, is that the
equivalent of copy and pasting
the code? Copy and pasting the code copy and pasting the code i don't know
what i do know is that there is going to be a team of lawyers that make a shitload of money
trying to answer this question and what i would say i made this conclusion in the video
if you are operating a company or you're a developer at a company and you
have somewhere to contact your company's legal team,
do not
use Copilot
in a development setting
if you are worried
at all.
I think that being worried is
how you should be with Copilot.
I do not think that Copilot should
be used in a commercial context until
these questions actually
get asked. Because if you
do, and you're the first one to go
down,
that's going to be
a very big problem for your company.
And I don't
know who would ultimately be responsible
if it would be the company who
ships the code they copied for or they they generated or synthesized with copilot or if it would be github i really
don't know and that's why i think it's ultimately safer just to give this some time i think it's
perfectly fine to use in an open source context no No one's going to go after some random project that has one star on GitHub
just because they have some code that violates the license.
Unless you are incredibly petty, no one's going to do that.
But if, for example, I don't know, you're a Facebook,
and you use Copilot, you release something under MIT and it has GPL code in it.
That's a much bigger problem. And if you are operating a big open source project, like say
a GIMP or a Blender or I don't know, any of the big open source Facebook projects or just anything like that,
I think if you're a high profile target, using Copilot as it currently stands
is probably not legally advisable.
That's what I would say.
Now, as I said, I am not a lawyer, but I think the safe approach is to just wait until lawyers have actually answered this question.
And it's also going to come very much down to different regions.
I wouldn't be surprised if, say, the US and Europe have very different rulings on how this is handled.
I think this had to happen at some point.
I don't think there was any way we were going to get much further into the future
without having some AI pair programming tool that does as much work
as something like ProPilot does.
It makes sense that GitHub is the first company to
properly do it. I know there have been other tools
but GitHub trained it on
the billions of lines of code on GitHub
and it's actually a really useful
tool. You can get amazing
output from this.
So it had to happen at some point.
And these questions had to be answered.
I just don't know
what the answer is ultimately going to be.
This isn't something that can be simply answered by some dude on YouTube.
All I can say is just be careful with what you do with it.
Yeah, that is pretty much it.
I think it's cool.
I do think the tech is really cool.
I will give it that.
I like the idea of neural nets. They're pretty cool. You could do some fun stuff with them.
But be careful.
I need to get an ASMR mic just to do some stupid stuff like that.
I've been considering buying a
new mic. I've mentioned it before. I want to buy
a Shure SM7B.
Uh, they're probably still stupid expensive
because it's a Shure, and Shure mics
are very expensive.
And the answer is, it is very expensive.
Fuck off. Stop pretending
like the recommended retail price is $1,000.
Um,
anyway,
we're not going'll get back into
microphones i've talked about microphones too often on this channel uh what i want to talk about
is you know what actually yeah we'll do that i want to talk about my new keyboard so can i put
the cable there we go so i've replaced my vantar my kuga vantar i now i now have a Cherry Stream. It is once again a, uh, a scissor switch keyboard,
but the build quality is considerably better. So, okay, the problem with my Vantar is my Vantar,
it feels amazing. It's an amazing feeling keyboard, but the build quality is, um,
keyboard but the build quality is um how you say lacking yes lacking is a good way to put it so occasionally i would notice if i bumped it the lights would flicker out for like maybe half a
second maybe in like a tenth of a second but if you are like pressing any key during that time that key would not be
registered so i think that the keyboard was sort of i think the cable internally wasn't properly
connected or something weird was happening on the inside that made it so it disconnected briefly
it wouldn't happen like every couple of seconds it'd be like maybe maybe a couple of times an hour
on the worst days like usual days it'd be like maybe once an hour which i can live with but when
i was recording videos and it happened it would make me have to like restart that recording and
it was annoying to deal with so i went and actually before that, I was looking at keyboards that I
could consider getting. Let's see, let's see if we can find-
What was the other one I was gonna get?
Actually, I was considering just buying another Vantar, that was the first thing.
Actually, I was considering just buying another Vantar.
That was the first thing.
I was considering getting another Vantar.
I decided against that because I wasn't sure if it was a problem with the keyboard itself or a problem with just the product in general.
So I decided against that.
And after looking at some of the user reviews, it seems like a lot of people have a similar problem with it.
Like, after a year and a half, two years or so, it starts to get a bit flaky with how well it works.
So I decided to try something new.
The first thing I was looking at was this right here.
right here.
This is not a scissor switch keyboard,
which already was going to be
something I was going to have
to get used to,
but this was
one of the low-profile
Cherry switches, one of these boys,
which, they're more low-profile
than the full switches,
but still a bit
too big for my liking.
Yeah, that was the main problem I had with that one.
Also, it's 10 keyless.
And I know that a lot of people don't care about the number keys.
I use the number keys as a macro bay.
So unless you have a macro
bay, I need my numpad.
That's basically my
minimum requirement.
I don't do 10 keyless, I don't do
60%.
I want my full keyboard.
So,
after that, I went
and looked at another one. It was actually another
one of the mechanical
keyboards, which for me, as I said, kind of rare. There was that one. Yeah, there was
that one. And what was another one we had? Yes, that's another one. So,
let's see if their website loads.
This was another one I looked at. This was a
very low-profile keyboard.
It had chiclet-style keys.
It had the same sort of
mechanical key switches, but
rather than having the regular desktop
switches, this one was
chiclet, which
I prefer my chiclet keys uh this one once again
also 10 keyless i don't know why so many of the really nice keyboards are 10 keyless
i guess because if you're a gamer you don't really need the numpad unless you are not dumb like presumably me and if you're a streamer and you want some
fucking macro keys so once again uh no macro keys because it's a 10 keyless which is annoying
but this would have been if it had a if it had a numpad this probably would have been my next keyboard.
I'm not a big fan of the mechanical switches,
but I can learn
to live with them if it has
chic-style keys.
But I need my numpad.
And if someone knows a version
of this keyboard that does have a numpad,
please let me know and I will consider
buying it as my next keyboard.
Now, one after that. This is the first one where I was like okay I am I am very
interested in buying this it has it's okay doesn't have a numpad it's got like
this weird merge thing I don't know what you call this this are this format which
isn't great but I can still use I can still use these as a macro base, so it's fine.
Two problems though. First problem, a fucking Bluetooth keyboard. Here's my other problem.
All of the really good keyboards, like this one has a wired mode, so that's fine,
but all of the really good keyboards I was looking at were Bluetooth.
I don't want to charge my keyboard.
I just want to plug it in and have it work.
So this was going to be good.
I think this one was actually, I think this was, oh no, this one was mechanical.
I was going to say it was a scissor switch, but no, it is mechanical.
And it looks pretty good as well.
It's got some weird font choices,
but I can accept them.
So I didn't end up going with that one.
Then I was going to get like really fucking desperate.
And I actually was thinking of getting
something that maybe people would get triggered by
if I told them I had it.
And that would actually make it funnier.
Um...
I was actually considering buying... where is it?
No, not the... not the laptop version. I want the desktop version.
Uh... where is it? Give me one second.
Here it is! No, not the... not that, not that one. It was the older version.
Yeah. It was this right here. I know I'm using Google. Don't complain. I was going to buy...
I was actually going to buy an Apple keyboard. I wasn't going to buy a Magic keyboard. I don't
like Bluetooth. I was going to go find one one on eBay. That was one of the older.
One of the older.
Ones you plug in.
I was actually going to buy it.
Because I know these keyboards.
Are beautiful to type on.
I know that's going to trigger someone.
To be like.
Actually no.
I think it's membrane actually.
I think that one actually might be membrane.
Very well built, though.
Very much considering that.
I know, someone's going to complain about that,
but I think it's a good keyboard.
Actually, no, I think you can use this one wired.
Yeah, because this one has a USB bay on it.
I also looked at a...
Here it is.
I also looked at one of these,
because it's the same sort of idea.
I was going to get a Surface keyboard.
Once again, I think it would have been hilarious
if I did buy that.
And just to see sort of the response that I got
any time I mentioned that I got anytime I mentioned
that I had a Microsoft keyboard.
It would have been funny.
But also this one was just
obscenely expensive.
It's like, do I really
want to pay that much for a keyboard?
My answer was ultimately no
because I think it would have cost
I think it was going to be like $160
Australian which for a keyboard with no bells and whistles is a little bit much.
So I ultimately went back to one of the things that I initially thought about,
and that was the Cherry Stream.
This keyboard, quite difficult to get in Australia.
There's not really many shippers for it um but i eventually
found one i found one on amazon and this was actually the um the us version with a uh a euro
symbol i i don't care about the euro symbol i I still have my dollar there, so that's fine.
But, yeah, there's a Euro on it as well,
which I guess I can just say I have a Euro on my keyboard.
So it doesn't have the chiclet-style keys,
which did bother me.
I've gotten used to it,
because they are... I don't know if you saw it well before,
but this thing, like thing is very low. I don't know if you can really tell. The keys on this
are incredibly low profile. If I put something next to it for scale, here we go. Here is
one of the pens I got from Vivaldi. So you know how big a pen usually is so if you look
at like how high it is compare that to that just like it it's actually tiny there is basically no
travel on this keyboard and that is exactly what i want i want no travel in my keys i want to be
able to press it and it just presses the thing. And also,
the other nice advantage of this one,
it is $60.
I guess, technically $70 for $10
shipping. But,
this keyboard, so far,
has actually been really nice.
It did take a bit
to get used to, because I'm not used to the
keycaps.
But I'm liking it.
It also has, I don't know if you noticed those, it has media keys on it.
It has dedicated media keys.
And one really cool thing about these media keys is that under Linux,
these media keys actually show up as separate keys.
It's not like, oh, I press like, I don't know, I press a media key that is merged together with my F keys, for example, and it's just like, not really a media
key. It's just like, it has an icon on there saying it also is a media key. No, these media
keys are actually dedicated buttons that show up as the proper media keys.
And that's really nice to have.
I haven't actually bound them just yet.
But if I run them in XEV, it just says like, for example, I'm going to, I don't know if I can show, no, I can't show you because of the way I've got my thing set up.
But like, if I press, say like the volume key, it says XF86 audio raise volume.
Or if I press the play key, it shows up as XF86 audio play.
So I can like use this perfectly fine.
And I need to do that because it's going to make my streams
just slightly more convenient.
Also, it has a dedicated email key,
which I don't know if shows up properly.
I haven't tested that one.
The lock key shows up as
no... wait.
What does it show up as?
It shows up
as...
Wait, super L?
Wait, what?
Huh, okay, sure.
Maybe that one doesn't work properly.
Um, but my...
There's a home key button on here, which I guess is to open up your browser.
There's an email icon, which shows up as an XF86 email.
And there's a calculator icon, which I'm not going to use for a calculator, but I'll find something for it.
Maybe, like, notes or something.
So, I'm going to say... it's still very early having this keyboard but for $60
honestly it might be worth it. So yeah I'm gonna say it's probably worth it for that much.
If it breaks that's fine. I could
buy another one.
But it...
It already feels like the build quality
is considerably better than the Vantar
anyway, so...
I'm expecting it to last longer than
a year. I didn't even spill anything
on the Vantar.
It just like stopped properly working,
which is just honestly annoying.
Yeah.
Things.
I do need to fix up the bindings though.
Oh yeah, one thing that I was going to have a problem with, the only sellers that I could find in Australia for the Cherry
were selling the European version.
Now,
this version had the dumb
enter key, where you have the big enter key,
which also moves some other keys around.
I'm just like, can you
not? I want the US
version, please. I'll take anything
along with the US version just to get
the US version.
I finally got it, and yeah.
Now we're good.
There's not really much else I have to buy.
I want to buy.
I think there's only two things right now
that are even catching my attention,
and it's just a matter of deciding to.
And that was the lens and also the shore.
Both are very expensive to purchase,
so it's just like, when I
decide to do it... Actually,
speaking of... Purchases?
Yeah, purchases.
I've been applying for a credit card
recently. I don't think I mentioned it last
time, but the other
week I started applying for a credit card.
Because at some point I want to buy my own house
and right now I don't
have any sort of credit rating.
And getting a credit card is just the easiest way to do that.
But holy crap.
I think the banks want more information than the tax office does.
I honestly cannot believe how much they were asking for.
So they obviously wanted the basic information information, you know, like your age, birthday.
Why is it age and birthday?
Your birthday, your name, your address, your phone number, email, your employment, things like that.
Basic stuff that sort of makes sense.
But the problem, though, is that a lot of the the other information they are so like
uh your income and like how much um how much your expenditure is and proving that information
it's just like guys you're gonna confirm this stuff with the tax office how about I know it's gonna sound crazy how about you just ask the tax
office because like all of the stuff they asked for like can you send us your
tax return can you send us your your recent pay slips can you send us in
Australia we get this thing called a PAYG summary which is pay as you go
basically it's like it's a overall summary of how many pay as you go. Basically, it's like, it's an overall summary of how many pay
slips you got throughout the year.
They ask for that. They ask for bank
statements. The bank
that I'm with asks for
bank statements
from me. So,
how about
you check
your own database?
Why do I need to send you something in your own database what
is the point of that like the reason why i say that map heart specifically is dumb is because
at the start of like applying for the credit card it says are you a new customer or are you someone
already with this bank and confirm you're with the bank.
Basically, you log in with your online banking details.
So they already knew that I was a customer with them.
And they still asked for information that they had on file.
I don't understand.
It baffles my mind how they are this incompetent. I don't know if this is just like a normal thing for
applying for a credit card or if it's just like, if it's just specifically my bank,
but it was annoying. And this morning I actually got a call from the bank
10 minutes before I was about to start streaming. And it's like, mate,
can you call me at literally any other time of the day?
Like, not right now.
Actually, to be fair, if he didn't call me then,
he probably would have called me, like, in the middle of the livestream
and be like, look, I'm working right now.
Don't fucking call me.
So, yeah, he called me and was like, oh, can you send us his extra information?
Once again, extra information that he didn't need
because they're going to confirm it with the tax office.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All this extra information they didn't need,
and you fucking confirm it with the tax office anyway.
Like, they literally asked me for my tax statement.
Like, the tax office
has that. It's in the
fucking name. It says, tax statement. Who do the tax office has that. It's in the fucking name. It says
tax statement. Who do you think has
that? The guys you're gonna check this information
with. Stop asking
me for fucking... It's not even like I was asking
for, like, a big credit limit either.
I think I set the limit to
3,000 because I
basically just want it to be there for, like, daily
purchases so I can pay it off
or I can use it, pay it off straight away
and just build up that rating.
So it's not like I even ask for that much either.
They just ask for so fucking much information.
It would be one thing if I was asking for like
a 20 grand limit and I
like I'm making in the
realm of like 30 to 40 thousand
like that would make sense. But no
not for 3 grand not for a
tenth of my income stop it stop banks maybe it's easier with other banks i don't know
but my sister's in the same boat um wanting to buy a house in a couple years either
and i talked to her about it and she hasn't even applied for the credit card yet so i don't know
what her plan is to actually get a loan.
I know obviously it's going to be different because
she has a partner. Presumably if
they're still together in two years.
But
yes,
she doesn't have a credit card. So I don't know what her plan
is to actually get the loan.
I know she has like a
car loan. No, the
car loan she has. Does she have a car loan. No, the car loan she has.
Does she have a car loan?
Wait, does she have a car loan?
Does she borrow money from our stepdad?
I think, wait.
I think she might have borrowed money from our stepdad.
But she does have like a phone plan.
And I guess that's something.
It's just not much.
I guess she's had it for a while. So maybe that does count to more than i would think yeah okay i guess that makes sense to be fair she
probably isn't thinking too much about it though she's about as uh about as scatterbrained as i am
sometimes so it's very likely uh very likely she hasn't thought about it yeah
I think we've talked on this podcast
about how much I want to spend
on a house
I'm looking like the
the cheap
range for a house
that's the range I want to go for
because look
at the end of the day,
as long as it's a roof that I own,
that's good.
Being in my own place would actually be really, really good.
It's going to be set up
as an office, basically.
I'm not going to do the DT thing
and get myself a separate office. I'm going to
set up my house as an office. I want a place that's at least
probably at least three bedrooms.
So I'm going to have my room, a guest room, and an office. I want a place that's at least probably at least three bedrooms. So I'm going to have my room,
a guest room, and an office.
Or a dedicated office would be fine
as well, but
in that price range, you're probably not going to
get one.
And there's some guy
at work who
is a little bit younger than me, actually.
I think he's 19. He actually
owns his own place, which, honestly, is
very impressive, considering
how many people complain about
how impossible it is to buy a house.
And he was just like, yeah, I'm just gonna
save up working
in a supermarket
and just buy a house. And that's
cool. I can very much respect
that. And anyone who wants to put that effort in
to go and do that, good in my books. Where's my drink? There it is. I ran very much respect that. And anyone who wants to put that effort in to go and do that, good in my
books.
Where's my drink? There it is. I ran out of tea, so
I want my water.
So one day it'll
happen. One day in the
hopefully
more near than
distant future. Yeah.
Maybe like two or so years. I don't know.
By that point, if I'm still doing the YouTube
thing, hopefully
we'll be in a much better state with like how
much we're sort of making from it.
Because right now, I'm certainly not
like making a little from it, but
you know, not enough
where I would be comfortable like doing this as my main
thing. And I don't know if I'm even going to do it
as my main thing or like always just
keep myself with a second job. I really don't know. I don't know if i'm gonna do it as my main thing or i always just keep myself with a
second job i really don't know i i don't know how far this is gonna go maybe it it stops at
20 000 i don't know i have no idea how it's gonna go the future has the future has mysteries in
store yeah we'll say that that's that's how we'll say you know that's the dumbest way i could ever think of saying that um but yeah things will happen in the future i don't know what those
things will be so i'll deal with them later which is certainly a good way to sit on my degree
but hey my logic is if if I do successful without using my degree,
surely the people who are complaining about it
won't have too much to complain about.
Specifically my mother.
Yeah.
She does.
She doesn't openly complain about it,
but she definitely does.
The mother hinting thing where like well she's
disappointed in some way about how much time i spent on it and then and money i guess and then
not really using it um yeah and now that my sister's in university and she probably is
going to go and actually use her degree.
It is kind of funny.
But hey, if this continues doing well, I don't know.
Maybe we'll be in a good state someday.
Maybe I'll be in a state where, you know, like DT, I actually could afford an office.
I don't know.
Oh, actually, on that note, I did notice.
I don't know if this guy's like set that note, I did notice, um, I don't, I don't know if this guy's,
like, set up the correct amount, because it's a lot. Um, okay, I can't actually do it like that, because it's logged me out. I'll just go to my page.
Uh, Brie Robertson's profile. I got an email from Liberapay before. I don't really ever use Liberapay because there's like, you know,
no one actually on the thing.
Except now there is.
Because one person decided to become a patron there for $5 a week.
I know it says $7.38, but that's Australian dollars.
$5 US a week.
That's a lot of money.
That's $20 a month.
Like,
that's,
that's,
that's more than a Spotify subscription or a Netflix subscription.
And they're like,
have it.
I'm like,
oh,
okay.
Sure.
I'll take it.
But like,
um, I, I appreciate it. Uh, sure, I'll take it, but, like, um, I, I appreciate it, uh, I, I got that email out of
nowhere, because no one's been using Liberapay, it, like, I have it there in case, you know, people
want to, want to donate money, and don't want to use a site like Subscribestar, or, or, um, Patreon,
but I, I hadn't had anyone using it at this point, so whoever you are, one person,
very much appreciated, I can't actually, um, I can't see the names of people who actually,
um, who actually subscribe over on Patreon, so I don't really know who, I, I have no idea who it is.
I don't really know who... I have no idea who it is.
I did notice that one of the people I had on the Patreon has disappeared.
And I don't know who it was.
I need to go and actually cross-check the names.
Because I have 24 names on my list, but there's only...
Sorry, I've 24
24 Patreon names on my list
but only 23 people on Patreon
um also the way
the way Patreon works is
if someone subscribes to your
Patreon and then
leaves before
they've done their first
payment it doesn't show up as
like a declined or cancelled.
It just removes it from your list.
Which makes it difficult for me
when I'm trying to, like, maintain a list
when a name just suddenly disappears.
So I have to go back and actually find that.
And I guess...
I wonder how to handle Liberapay.
Maybe just put, like, a total there of, like, how much I'm making a week on Liberapay. Maybe just put, like, a total there
of, like, how much I'm making
a week on Liberapay. That might be, that's
probably the best way.
Yeah.
Like, I don't like making, like,
how much I make secret. I
think if I'm gonna be, if I'm gonna be
making money from people tipping,
I think it only makes
logical sense
to make that number public.
I know you can very easily hide it on
Patreon, I just, I don't feel comfortable
doing so. I know a lot of the
really big channels actually do that,
probably because when
you're at the size of, like, you know,
um, a Markiplier
or, uh,
I was gonna say PewDiePie, PewDiePie doesn't need donations to survive, or... I was going to say PewDiePie.
PewDiePie doesn't need donations to survive.
He just literally can retire tomorrow.
Like, when you're a big channel, even over, like, 100...
Maybe even, like, 200k subs.
I get if you have, like, a big number there.
A lot of people may not feel like actually supporting the channel.
So, hiding that number, but still having...
Still having how many total patrons
uh members of the the patron are there i think i think makes sense in that case um i i just don't
i just don't feel like that i i don't feel like that is the most honest way of doing it.
I want to make the number public.
Yeah.
I can't think of any
reason why I would ever go and hide
it. Like
yeah.
I really don't know of a reason.
I would make how much I make
from ads on YouTube public if
I could make that public.
Jesus Christ
DT makes a shitload of money
my man
285 patrons
1748 dollars
that's fucking mental
and that's just from Patreon
I can tell you
how much DT makes
because I can do math
so if we do actually I want to sort of work that out I can tell you how much DT makes because I can do math.
So if we do... Actually, I want to sort of work that out.
How many views is DT getting?
DistroTube.
And I know he doesn't have any sponsors.
So his Patreon plus his his
ad revenue should be
everything, assuming he doesn't do
a live stream and makes extra money
from that. Okay, so
over the last 30 days, he got
988k views.
Yeah, 988k views.
So,
divide that by...
I'm going to do a rough number. Divide that by 180. So, divide that by... I'm going to do a rough number.
Divide that by 180.
So, let's say 5.5.
And then let's do 350 times by 5.5.
Okay.
And now...
1925 AUD to USD.
So that's 1400 USD,
give or take a few on either side,
for how much DT's making a month on ads by itself.
And then on Patreon,
that would be...
$1300. So let's say he makes like $2800 a month. That's rough. That would be
roughly about correct. That's a lot of money. Fuck you know, that's a lot of money.
Obviously, you can make more doing, you know, like, a dev job, for example.
I don't know about other countries,
but an Australian dev job
entry salary
is usually around $40,000 to $45,000.
This is why
Australia is a very
expensive country to be a
company in, because
of how stupid our junior salaries are. Actually, how
stupid all of our salaries are.
I think I've mentioned it before, but
my job is putting boxes
on shelves. I am a night
filler. I, you know,
I
put boxes on shelves. Nothing that crazy.
And because I also work at night, we that crazy. Um. And.
Because I also work at night.
We also get a benefit from that.
So above 6pm you get like an extra.
Pay benefit on top of that.
And also because I'm casual.
There is like an extra benefit from that as well.
So I'm on like.
$32 Australian an hour.
To put boxes on shelves.
Like it's not a difficult job
at all.
But like, you get paid
stupid money here.
But also, tax is also very high
and general living expenses are high as well.
But it still works out to be
a lot of money.
Like,
way more money than it should be.
like way more money than it should be i don't know maybe maybe people are bored about me talking about how much
how how stupid pay rates are in australia actually this is why there's a lot of people out there
like i know people in their like 30s and 40s who still work in supermarkets because it's a
very easy job and because of how much you get paid.
Like, there's no reason to really get a better job.
Like, obviously, at some point,
at some point, jobs like this will be automated,
but that's still a very long while away.
Unless you work on the checkout,
then that's probably a few years away.
But, like, stacking shelves,
that's probably a few years away but like stacking shelves that's that's difficult to
replace because of like the the different what's the word um the different level of strength you
actually need to hold the objects and because the shelves are designed to be interacted with by
people not interacted with by robots. Actually, that reminds me.
This morning, I saw this video from Tom Scott about exactly that.
So, Tom Scott robot.
Sure, that should come up with it.
Nope.
Oh, here it is.
So, it's a video titled,
How many robots does it take to Run a Grocery Store?
Basically what this is, is like a massive factory.
Effectively, a massive factory where these robots basically will pick up items
so they can be sent to customers who purchase them.
It's just a mostly, mostly fully automated grocery
store, with the exception of human
operators to make sure that the
machines don't break down
and become a problem then.
Where was I
going with this? Oh, where I was going with this
was there was a really funny
point in the
video. So the lady he was talking to,
he was explaining the whole factory thing.
She started talking about like how it works.
And she mentioned one term
that I feel like regular viewers
probably think is some like really fancy term
specifically for this sort of factory.
And that word was tote.
specifically for this sort of factory.
And that word was tote.
Now, tote basically just means box.
Let's see if we can find a tote.
Tote box.
Here you go.
This is a tote.
A tote is a box. It is a plastic storage box.
And we use these very heavily at work.
Basically, we will put products in them.
I think if we get fruit delivered, some of it comes in totes.
The meat you get delivered in totes.
A lot of things get delivered in totes.
A lot of things get delivered in totes.
And the way she said it made it seem like it was some, like, fancy robotic term.
It's not.
It literally is just a plastic box.
We use them in regular stores as well. The impressive thing, though, is she said that they have, like, stacks of 11 high totes.
have like stacks of 11 high totes.
Usually they'll be like,
maybe,
you know,
a bit over head high,
like maybe like,
I don't know,
four or five Brody heads long.
11 high is very high.
Uh,
and if you had like a human trying to,
trying to manage that,
that would not work.
I reckon,
I reckon if you put regular totes.
On top of each other.
I could probably reach.
Without jumping up to the 8th. Any more than that and it's not going to happen.
11 high is a lot.
If that got disturbed.
And somehow fell.
That could do a lot of damage.
But this is.
Sort of a look
into the future
of grocery
stores. This is just one place.
But at some point,
this is probably going to be
how all grocery
stores are run. Because at
some point, it's just going to, frankly,
be cheaper.
Because Because at some point, it's just going to, frankly, be cheaper. Because assuming the traditional model continues being followed,
where as technology improves, it continues getting cheaper,
at some point, a setup like this will actually just be cheaper
than hiring and training people.
Even if,
even if the initial upfront cost is going to be more,
um,
over,
over like the,
the way you'd usually work it out is over the course of how long you would
have that employee.
Uh,
is it going to be cheaper to have this machine or have the employee?
This is the reason why,
even though you can
automate a McDonald's right now
and there actually are machines to
do it, you still have
15 year olds working at
McDonald's because right now
especially in Australia, it's
still cheaper to actually
have
children running
that store.
But hey, you can definitely get away
with not hiring adults.
Like, my
first job was at McDonald's. I got it when I was
18. And when
you do that,
you're treated like...
I guess you're treated like you are less
than dirt. Less than dirt is a good way to put it. Because if you're treated like you are less than dirt.
Less than dirt is a good way to put it.
Because if you're young, you'll get the shifts.
If you're young and any decent, they'll give you work
because they could pay you nothing.
But because I was 18,
18, you still don't actually get paid minimum wage,
which is actually crazy in Australia.
At 18, they are allowed to pay you,
I think it's 70, 80%.
I think it's 80%.
They pay you 80% minimum wage,
which is stupid.
You can buy a house,
but they'll pay you less than minimum wage.
Anyway.
But that's still considerably more than when you're 15,
which is 50% of minimum wage.
So, yeah.
By the time I was quitting that job, I was getting like one shift
barely a week. Some weeks I didn't even get a shift.
Which is not fun. And that's why I now work in a supermarket
I just looked at my
Notifications and I saw
That I got another notification from
The guy who likes to
To
To say dumb things
Let's see if we can find the reply
Let's find out what the reply is
Let's see if we can find the reply. Let's find out what the reply is.
Let's see.
So, this was about him calling me a hypocrite for playing video games.
And I said, he has a bank account.
The comparison is flawed.
Bank accounts are unfortunately necessary in present day,
non-third world societies, whereas games are completely optional. optional secondly the fact that everyone has at least one bank account doesn't imply that
i specifically use proprietary software which i assume is why you brought up bank accounts in the
first place wait what secondly the fact that basically everyone has at least one bank account
doesn't imply that i specifically use proprietary software no it actually does like
unless your bank uses uh free software
you use proprietary how do i spell proprietary software on a day-to-day
basis.
Let's see. What else can I bring up?
Maybe he said, okay,
games are optional. What could I mention
that is optional that he probably uses
in his daily life?
Hmm.
Hmm.
That's a good question.
I don't know.
This is one of those times when having a
chat would actually be incredibly useful.
Also, once again, he is liking his own comments, which, you know, is always, always, always fun to see.
Always very fun to see.
Hmm.
Bank accounts are unfortunately less necessary in present-day non-third-world societies, whereas games are completely optional.
Actually, here we go.
You don't need a bank account.
You can do everything with cash purchases.
Getting paid from a job that does cash in hand.
Yeah, you don't need a bank account.
You can do everything the cash purchase is getting paid from a job that does cash in hand.
There we go.
I'm just going to give a dumb example like that just to see what sort of response I get.
Because boost up that algorithm.
If I can game the algorithm with interacting with someone,
I'm going to do so.
Because that sounds funny.
Oh yeah, I mentioned my sister earlier.
So this actually has to do with the topic I brought up last week.
So this actually has to do with the topic I brought up last week.
So I mentioned Millie during the end of that podcast,
and Ransom sent me a message being like,
yo, why did you not tell me about, what was it?
What did I mention?
World Execute Me and was it String Theocracy?
I think so.
He was like, yo, why did you not tell me about this earlier?
I was like, I literally mention Millie every time
that we talk about Dead Cells.
But you didn't mention this song specifically.
Google Millie and you'll find it
literally straight away.
But last night when I was at work,
this is how we get back to the sister part of this.
She sent me, or not sent me, she showed me a song on Spotify.
I don't remember what the hell the song was called. It was some, like, weird, weird fucking song.
Is it?
I don't remember what the hell it was called.
It was like an 8-bit version
of like...
Uh...
Yeah, I can't
find it. It was an 8-bit
like...
Pirate-y sounding song.
Like, if you put this into like a uh you know an NES uh Pirates of the
Caribbean game it would be like right at home like that sort of music and she's like this is weird
I'm going to show it to you it's like okay we listened to it I was like this is weird for sure sure anyway uh i then proceeded to uh get her to bring up um millie world execute me
and she was like i have no idea what is being said but i think her voice is cute
and then i i told her some of the lyrics like uh what was it so we had like uh
if i was a eggplant i would give you my nutrient if i was a
tomato i would give you antioxidants uh switch my gender from f to m switch my role from s to m
but you can't really tell she's saying that like when you're just casually listening to it because
she has like a a very distinctive voice that unless you get used to it um it all just sounds like adorable noises
then i i went to put on uh mushrooms and mushrooms is mushrooms is a song i will i will i will show
you some of the lyrics to mushrooms um so i have successfully managed to, uh, managed to create another fan of Millie.
She, uh, was definitely, um, definitely interested in her music, which is good,
because I love Millie, and she needs more fans.
Uh, here we go.
Verse two.
All the mushrooms looked at me, looked at me.
All the mushrooms surround me, surround me.
All the mushrooms looked at me, looked at me. All the mushrooms surround me surround me, all the mushrooms looked at me, looked at me, all the mushrooms
surround me, surround me
uh, the mushrooms
spoke, I've sat here
all my life feeling sorry for myself
and they spoke, trampled, used
and dumped, got no pride to
push down, uh, to push them down
finding peace in her suffering
as I go, uh, as I go
up a place in the hierarchy since when have i
become uh since when have i have i become became me i gave up crying i gave up waiting i gave up

screams your paws clinging onto my skin.
Powdery snow cleared up my sins.
If you don't think Millie's lyrics are just fucking strange.
I don't know what's up with you.
Oh, here's the outro.
Mushroom, mushroom, shroom.
Mushroom, mushroom, mushroom, shroom.
Mushroom, mushroom, shroom.
La, la, la, la, la. Mushroom, mushroom, mushroom, shroom. Mushroom, mushroom, shroom. La, la, la, la, la.
Mushroom, mushroom, shroom.
Obviously in a much more lyrical fashion.
But, yes.
I need to show her more Millie songs.
Because I've managed to hook her with these two songs.
I guarantee that I can get her to listen to more.
Which is good.
Maybe I'll just show her the Ender Lily soundtrack, because, man, man, the Ender Lily soundtrack
is so good.
It came up while I was listening to stuff on Spotify, and I just let it play.
It's like, this is okay.
I've listened to this countless times during the playthrough of the game,
but I'm going to keep listening to it because it's just gorgeous.
And actually properly listening to the music actually made me notice a lot more of the little subtle background details that I didn't notice before.
Like some of the sections that I didn't even realize had humming actually had humming in the background.
And it's lovely. i highly recommend it millie is a uh
very good artist and the reason why i would probably say that it's probably
i think millie might be my favorite artist right now like i i've got i've got a lot of artists that I'm a big fan of, but I love Millie's
stuff.
Demon Dice, obviously, as well, but like,
yeah. I could just
chuck, like, any day, I can just
chuck anything in Millie's discography
on, and I'll enjoy it.
So,
yeah. I think that's a, um,
a good, uh, that's a good...
What's the word? Good...
Recommendation?
Yeah, recommendation, we'll say.
Oh, yeah.
So, after last week's podcast on the Saturday,
I finally decided to go and play a game a game that was being shielded to
me by hex dsl that game is uh yes eight or is eight i don't know how to say the name uh ed man
oh it broke um wait where is? Oh, I'm on the wrong
window. That would be why it broke.
Man, this
game is so
good.
Can we...
Can we see the combat?
I don't want to hear the music. Let's see the combat.
Like, this game
is honestly really,
really fun to play. I don't think I've ever played an action RPG that has combat that is this fluid.
So the two characters I've unlocked so far, I've got Adel and Laxia.
They both play amazingly. Like I thought
ever since playing Tales of Berseria, I sort of expect the JRPG to have some characters that
aren't fun to play. Like maybe, uh, there's, I don't know,
one's a bit too slow to, you know, use comfortably, but no, they both attack really quickly. This game
sort of emphasizes very, very fast-paced combat. And speaking of soundtracks, holy crap, this soundtrack is so, so good.
I wish I could play it, but it'll get copyright claimed probably straight away.
Um, I don't know, maybe, because it is a game soundtrack, it might be fine.
But I highly, highly suggest, uh, where's the thing?
I highly suggest listening Uh, where's the thing? I highly suggest...
Listening to the, uh...
Actually, I'll find out what the first song in the game was called.
Um, do you...
Is it 8?
Yeah, 8.
OST.
Um...
The song is called Sunshine Coastline.
This is the first song in the entire game after you do the introduction area.
It's just like fucking metal the entire...
You're just in a grassy field.
There's nothing that crazy happening on.
There's a couple of little enemies coming and attacking you.
And it's like...
What is happening? What is happening what is happening i
don't understand this wait why is this music so hype i am in a grassy field there is nothing going
on i don't understand this it's a very good game and apparently the entire series is very well
known for having just good music and this is rare not for just JRPGs, but for games in general.
Most of the time,
game soundtracks are very
forgettable.
But both this and Ender Lilies
have a beautiful
soundtrack.
Presumably, the rest of this game is going to have an amazing
soundtrack either. Honestly, I would
put the soundtrack for
Ys VIII on the same level as like
the persona soundtracks like maybe even higher i adore the persona 5 soundtrack and i will listen
to it constantly in my spare time but there are sometimes like some um some songs in the soundtrack
that i'm not a big fan of i have not found a song I don't like in the soundtrack.
They're all fucking insane.
And it's not just for this game either.
The older games have amazing soundtracks either.
Either?
As well.
As well as what I meant to say.
So I'm only a couple of hours into this game.
I love the combat.
I love the soundtrack.
It's got this really interesting dodge mechanic actually. That I don't think I've ever actually seen in any other game.
So most games will encourage you to dodge roll to, you know, not die, which is a fairly good
encouragement. But this game actually encouraged you to dodge roll at the last second. And this is
a really cool mechanic. So normally when you dodge roll in the game, you're like roll at the last second and this is a really cool mechanic so normally
when you dodge roll in the game you're like dodge the attack if you dodge at the last second it
activates this uh this mode called flash move like i'm gonna say flash flash move called flash move
and what flash move basically does is you get like a speed boost.
And not just movement speed boost, but also like attack speed boost as well.
So if you manage to dodge at the last second, you can actually chain into doing more damage to the enemy.
It encourages you to play this game like on the edge, trying to play as quickly as possible.
And it is such a cool mechanic that absolutely fits with the way this game works
and i'm so happy it's there i don't know if there are other games that have
done that presumably presumably something else has
but man it's it's it looks it's it's so cool and it's very it's kind of difficult to hit on the smaller enemies.
Because sometimes the smaller enemies sort of get...
What's the word?
You can't really see them.
Because it's got sort of spectacle fighter sort of combat.
Or combat effects.
Where there's just shit everywhere.
There's like effects constantly happening.
And some of the little enemies you literally cannot see. Um, and some of the little enemies,
you literally cannot see, but most of the time, the little enemies don't do much damage anyway.
But for the bigger enemies and the bosses, it's fairly easy to actually work out the timing as well. It, the attacks are not telegraphed in like the most obvious way, but once you get hit,
like maybe once or twice, you can start sort of piecing together the actual timing.
Oh, the other
thing. It actually
encourages you to just use
your abilities. This is a problem I have with
a lot of JRPGs, especially turn-based
ones, where you'll have all these really cool
abilities you can use, but your
MP is going to be very limited.
So you can use like a couple of them, and then
you have to use like an Aether.
And then you have to use another one.
It's like.
It's fine.
But.
I wish the game.
Let you just use abilities more.
This game.
The abilities are a far less damaging thing.
So it's not going to be like.
Hey.
You just cast like a Fire Argo for example.
And everything died.
But the abilities...
The abilities are very useful because you actually get bonuses from using them as well.
So if you kill an enemy with an ability, I think you get...
I think you might get bonus SP so you can use another ability Or it might be like bonus HP or something.
And it just encourages you to spam
them out. Also
when you just attack things, you get
SP to do attacks.
Or to do specials or abilities.
Which is awesome.
And the other reason why you want to
keep using abilities is because if you
use enough abilities, you have two gauges. You have your SP gauge and then your, I guess,
finisher gauge. I don't remember what it's actually called. But the SP gauge is filled
with attacks and then the finisher gauge is filled with abilities. Once that's filled up,
you'll do some massive finisher attack
and do a ton of bonus damage.
So it really encourages that fast-paced,
just attack the thing as quickly as possible
sort of gameplay.
And the other thing that very much feeds into that is,
so it's got at least,
Ys VIII has a party system.
I know the older games didn't,
but this one does.
And the different party
members you have, have different
damage types they'll do.
The two characters I have right now,
Adel, the main character, he has
slashing damage, and then Laxia,
she has a rapier. A rapier?
Rapier. Whatever.
And obviously that does stabbing
damage. And different enemy types
actually take different damage, or different enemy types actually take different damage,
or take more damage from different damage types.
So right now there is these flying enemies,
and if you stab them,
they will take a lot of bonus damage and fall to the ground.
Now, most JRPG character switch systems
don't really encourage character switching,
because if you swap characters,
you'll go back to where the other person is standing.
Not in this case.
In this case, if I swap characters, it swaps the place of the characters.
So if I'm attacking enemy directly in front of me and I swap from Adel into Laxia,
I will just basically transform into Laxia and I can just not even just transform,
I keep my combo going. So if I am doing say an air combo and I do one attack as Adol and then I
switch to Laxia, I can do the second attack as Laxia which is... I've never seen that before!
It's such a cool system, I actually love it. So it really encourages you actually
swapping back and forth between the characters.
Also, you get different bonuses
whether you use air combos or
ground combos. I think if you
do an air combo, you get bonus
XP, and ground combos
you get... might be bonus
SP.
If I'm not mistaken.
And both... I've never played a JRPG where the air combos feel as good as the ground combos we've we've found
it we've found it it doesn't feel too floaty it doesn't feel like it is a
little bit floaty because it is a JRPG and you know you're hovering in the air
while swinging your sword but the thing that really saves that is you can dodge roll in the air.
There's not many games that do this.
I know Dead Cells does it.
I know that Ender Lilies does it.
But there's a lot of games out there where when you're in the air,
you can't guard, you can't dodge, you can't do anything
except take the damage and fall.
The game doesn't care.
It's like, hey, you want to do a flash
move in the air go right ahead and you can do it and then like switch into another character and
just keep going like that it's it's such a cool system man i i could keep talking about yes a
all day i've only played a couple of hours of it, but I am genuinely in love with this game.
It is so good.
Speaking of Ys VIII, though, Ys IX just came out on PC.
And apparently, according to the gaming shelf, it is the best Ys game ever,
which is a very fucking high bar to come over, because Ys VIII was the best Ys game ever. Which is a very fucking high bar to come over. Because Ys VIII was the best Ys game ever.
Like everyone who likes this series.
Basically says that VIII is the best game in the series.
If IX is also really good.
That's pretty cool.
There was a demo that's been available.
But.
The.
What was I saying?
The demo apparently works fine on Linux.
And then, we have this new game where apparently the full version also, it just works fine on Linux.
Um, oh, one of the really cool things this game does do, I don't know if it's gonna, yeah, briefly shows it here.
There's actually, like,
hardcore elements outside of just, like, jumping around the environment. So you can, like, climb
up buildings in this game and, like,
jump around the city like it's a fucking
Spider-Man game.
I don't know why, but you can do it.
And
Adel looks actually pretty cool
in this game. Adol is the main
protagonist in all of the games but
the story of the games aren't exactly
connected
it's
Hex mentioned on his episode when he started
shilling the game to me but
basically they're entries in a journal
talking about the life of Adol
so it
you could sort of treat Adol.
Like he's not even a real character.
He's sort of like.
The idea of an adventurer basically.
I really like the character designs.
In this game though.
Everyone sort of has like a.
They sort of have more of a Berseria look.
To be honest.
Which I think is a good thing.
I like the character designs of Berseria.
Adol looks like a badass here. And is a good thing. I like the character design to Berseria. Adol looks like a badass here and is a
cat girl. So like
both of those are good reasons to
play this game.
And also, finally,
look at this. The game
doesn't look like a PS3
game. Now it looks like
an early PS4 game.
So we've improved.
That's the one thing that is sad.
About this series.
Because the series hasn't been that popular.
Up until 8.
It looks kind of shit.
Graphically it looks kind of shit.
It plays amazingly.
But it looks like an early PS3 game.
But I think.
With 8 and now 9.
We've finally hit. Where Final Fantasy was back in,
um, 98? When did, wait, when the hell did, uh, FF7 come out? Uh, FF7.
97.
I feel like... I feel like
Ys sort of had...
It sort of had
the same sort of
approach to becoming popular
as... Oh, not approach. Same sort of
way
of becoming popular as Final Fantasy.
Where before 7, people
did play it, but it certainly
wasn't as popular
as 7. Then 7 dropped
and boom, everyone now
knows about Final Fantasy.
And the same thing sort of happened with
Ys as well.
No one knew about the series, then
8 came out and it's like, holy shit.
This series is amazing.
Why did we not know about this before?
And then after that you continue
getting more and more better games.
It also doesn't help that
I think there was like a 10 year gap
or 8 year gap between Ys games.
Let me see.
Ys series.
When did the games come out?
Wikipedia to the rescue.
Because this series has been around the first game came out in
1987
87
On on the PC 8801 the x1 the
PC 9801 the FM 7 the MSX 2
the Famicom, which is the Japanese NES, the Master System, MS-DOS in the US.
Actually, two years later.
Two years later for a Japanese release in the 80s.
That's actually like a...
That's a really good time.
It came out on the Apple...
The IIGS? 2GS?
I don't know how to say that.
And the X68000 in Japan.
I'll show you the list.
So, YIS 1.
YIS 2.
Then YIS 3.
And also, YIS 1 and 2.
I do love that YIS 1 and II are like now bundled together.
Basically, Ys II is like effectively an expansion pack for Ys I.
So now whenever there are re-releases of Ys I,
it's always Ys I and II.
Then there was a three-year gap.
Then you got four Mask of the Sun and four The Daughter of Ys, then a year gap,
then you got five, and then there was a eight-year gap between five and six, so, like, it sort of
makes sense, um, maybe, maybe in, like, I don't know, Maybe in like. Ys X.
Ys X.
Do we get a game that looks like.
It's actually from the current year.
Possibly.
I don't know.
I'm.
I'm interested in what can be done.
With like the.
The anime style.
With the like.
The next generation consoles.
I guess the current gen now.
I don't know.
The problem that I see.
With a lot of games uh is they sort of
a lot of anime style games they start taking in more realistic elements rather than you know
doing what nintendo does where if you look at say uh super mario odyssey while they're like the
humans in a bit funky looking like you can look at that. And it looks like a contained experience.
Or like Breath of the Wild.
Breath of the Wild has a very specific art style.
But it actually makes use of the fact that it's on the Switch.
Whereas there's a lot of games out there.
Like say Kingdom Hearts for example.
Where they have the art style,
but they start breaking it a little bit
to sort of force the usage of, like, the higher-end specs.
Like, Sora looks a little bit funky in KH3,
but, like, here's Adol.
Like, Adol still looks like he makes perfect sense
in this entire series.
And like, his best mate Dogi,
like, they still sort of fit
the art style.
Ys also does sort of
benefit from the fact the art style isn't
100% set.
But what I would like from the
Kingdom Hearts series
is something with the style of KH1,
but with the models and the, I guess,
the effects actually upgraded to a modern standard
without compromising on the style.
Take, for example, Tales of Arise.
I think the problem with the kingdom hearts series is now that the game's looking so good i don't think
square enix knows whether they want it to be a whether whether they want it to be a Final Fantasy game or a Kingdom Hearts game. Like, Tales of Arise.
Like, this is a Tales game.
You look at this and you're like, yes.
All of this makes sense in the Tales art style.
Like, you don't make stuff too real looking.
You still keep yourself faithful to the art style.
You make use of modern effects that weren't possible on older systems.
art style you make use of modern effects that weren't possible on older systems but you you don't you don't go too far down too far down the realism level like this lava and this wall look
beautiful but it still fits in like the way the way you would imagine a tales game to actually look
that's where i think the kingdom Hearts is I think that's where
it's getting a little bit sidetracked.
Maybe you think I'm completely
wrong and you like the new Kingdom Hearts art style
but
I don't know. I think after KH2
the art style sort of
I guess
maybe because there was such a long
break between 2 and 3
they sort of lost how they should be doing it.
I think it's a good way to put it.
The Neptunia series is a very good example of this being lost as well,
where if you play, like, Cyberdimension, for example,
the trees and the grass look like they're sort of taken from a different game,
and it doesn't give you as...
I think a consistent art style is very important to having a convincing experience.
Like, obviously, a game like this doesn't look real.
But it looks like it's all set in the same world.
And I think that's the ultimate goal of an art style.
And Nintendo is a company that really understands this.
Nintendo is a company that has always had, like, the least powerful console in their generation.
With the exception of the GameCube, which actually was a very powerful system.
They've always had the least powerful console in their generation.
So they've had to very much lean on their art style.
And Nintendo does an absolutely fantastic job at actually doing that, where when a new
system comes out, it still looks like it's a part of the franchise.
It just, it takes advantage of just what wasn't possible before.
I don't know.
I think that
Kingdom Hearts at some point will have to
decide on
where it's going to head.
I think the big part that really
hurts Kingdom Hearts in that
way is the fact that
it does have the Final Fantasy characters in there.
So it makes sense to try to push that Final Fantasy art style.
And when you have someone...
Let's say you were to take...
Actually, that's a good example.
The final secret boss in KH3.
What's his name?
Yuzora.
KH3 Yuzora.
Like, if...
God.
Like, if you take Yuzora,
and then you put him into, like...
And then you just put Yuzora into, like, Final Fantasy XV,
he would not look out of place.
And that's the problem that's sort of
happening with the art style.
I don't know.
I'm not saying it looks bad.
It definitely doesn't look bad.
That's the thing.
It just doesn't look consistent.
One day though,
one day maybe they'll work something out
or maybe they'll just keep going down this route
and make Mickey Mouse look really weird
standing next to a Final Fantasy character.
I don't know.
We'll see what they ultimately do.
I have no way to control it.
I'm still going to buy the games regardless
because regardless, they'll still be fun games.
It's just that they won't be as artistically consistent.
A company that's really good at that as game i do want to talk about anyway
is um i want to talk about smt3 shin megami tensei 3 which i am i very much want to play
i don't know if i'm going to play it on stream.
But man.
I've been looking at a couple of videos.
About Shin Megami Tensei 3.
Came up back on the PS2.
Got an HD remake recently.
I don't know if I'm going to play the HD remake.
Because apparently it's a little buggy. I might just go emulate the PS2 version.
This game.
This game. Is apparently very hard.
Very difficult.
Apparently it's the hardest game in the series.
So if you don't know about... If you don't know about Shin Megami Tensei,
basically, this is the series
that spawned Persona.
If I remember correctly,
Persona started as a...
I think it started as a spin-off series.
I think that's the story.
Persona...
SMT spin-off.
I think the early Persona games...
Yeah, yeah.
It started as a spin-off series.
Like, the early Persona games were like...
Shin Megami Sensei...
Shin Megami Tensei Persona. Ori... Shin Megami Tensei Persona
or Persona Shin Megami Tensei, whatever.
Whatever the...
However they ordered the name.
So, I want to play this
because it takes the...
Basically, if you take Persona
and then minus out all of the boring life shit
and you just make it about battling demons.
Um,
yeah,
that's what this is.
And the MC,
it looks pretty cool.
If I say so myself,
he's got like these,
these,
these dumb tattoos.
I don't know why he's got the dumb tattoos that I'm sure there's a reason for it.
Law wise,
but he's got these dumb tattoos, and they glow in the dark.
Because, hey, why not?
I don't think they're actually tattoos.
I think they're some sort of magic demon powers.
I don't fucking know.
Also, I can't play the song.
But please go onto YouTube right now.
And look up...
Look up SMT3 Fierce Battle.
When I heard this song, this was the main reason why I wanted to play this game.
I think I saw this video.
Yeah.
It was this video right here.
Yes, I know.
I watched one of these fucking bird memes in 2021.
This song. Man, if we're talking about music from earlier this song
apparently it has lyrics i couldn't tell because it was just screaming apparently lyrics are
something that like god has rejected us and i don't know i don't know what's happening, but it's pretty awesome.
So yeah, I will have to play
that at some point. If I don't play it on stream, I'm gonna
play it regardless. It's just a
matter of where.
And I'm happy to go back and play an old PS2
game. Especially a very
good one.
There's so many good games
from the past that I just haven't played.
I haven't played most of the Tales series.
I haven't played most of the Ys series.
I haven't played any of the
Shin Megami Tensei games.
The other thing that got me
interested in playing this game is
that on the Switch, this might actually get me
to buy a Switch finally after all of the
games that have come out.
There is a...
What is it?
Shin Megami Tensei V.
Not 4 for the 3DS.
Yeah, not 4 for the 3DS.
Shin Megami Tensei V got announced at E3.
So, you know what that if there's any reason to go and actually um actually buy
a switch it might be that like there's there's so many games that I've been meaning to play, but I just haven't bought a Switch. I usually
buy a console at the
end of the generation. And we
might be getting close to
it, because Nintendo just
announced
actually a new version of the Switch.
This came out, I think
it was announced today, actually.
Like, literally today.
Where it's a, I love Nintendo for this.
Nintendo's such a great company for re-releasing products by making minor changes to them.
Like, if you think that, you know, like the the PS4 and the PS4 Pro, uh, was
a minor change.
Mate, fucking Nintendo.
Nintendo is, uh...
Nintendo's the kings of this.
Uh, this is the
Nintendo Switch OLED.
Which is
a Nintendo Switch
with an OLED screen.
It has.
Apparently the screen is slightly bigger.
Um.
And it's brighter.
And the storage is bigger.
Oh there's a wide LAN port.
That's good.
But I'm not going to play online anyway.
Um.
That's it.
I think they also fixed the...
There was problems with the stand or something.
I don't know.
Yeah.
The good thing about this, though,
is this means that
the older Switch models will become cheaper.
I don't know how much a Switch is right now,
but it's more money than Brody wants to pay.
But if I stream stuff, I could justify it, I guess.
I'm not making money on streams, but...
I've got so many games I want to play anyway, so like...
I don't know.
That's expensive. play anyway, so like, I don't know. Ooh!
That's expensive.
$540
for the, uh,
the OLED model. Let's
let's go and find out
how much
not the OLED model costs.
Why have I now
suddenly got hiccups?
No, we're not getting hiccups like 2 hours into a podcast
uh
okay so $425
for the regular switch
uh
do do do do do
you can get a switch light
for $240
that's the refurbished version
okay
okay okay I see. I see you.
I see you.
I don't know whether I want to pay that.
I really don't.
Is this... Wait. Is this a switch
with no games? You just...
Is it just a switch by itself
for...
It is a switch by itself
for $425.
Fucking hell.
Let's see if we can find a bundle.
Presumably there is some sort of bundle
happening right now.
Switch bundle.
Uh...
I kind of find it hard to justify
buying a console.
Switch gaming bundles.
Are there any bundles?
Are there any bundles with good games?
Wait, is this...
Wait, this can't be...
Wait, what the fuck?
Wait, hold up.
Oh, sorry.
It's a Switch Lite.
I was wondering why it was so cheap.
Wait, wait, wait, what?
$403
with a game, but
hold up, hold up, hold up.
Hold up, hold up, hold up.
Hold up, hold up, hold up.
Um.
$425
dollars.
Uh, guys.
No, I don't want to buy the stupid OLED one.
I don't care.
I'm not paying $500 for a fucking game console with no games.
Go away.
So, yeah, it's...
Okay, Neon Controls, so it's the same one.
$425, no games.
And this is on sale, apparently.
And then $403 with a game.
Now, I don't give a shit about the game that it comes with.
So, I'm'm gonna sell it.
So that's like...
What? Let's say I can
sell it for like $30.
That's
way cheaper.
Big W. How did you manage
that one, guys?
There's gotta be... There has to be something
weird about that. Maybe it has like...
Is that like a smaller storage or something?
Um...
I don't know.
Huh.
That's so weird.
How did they manage that one?
I don't know, but hey,
if you want to switch and you're in Australia,
I guess go and buy it from Big W
and you'll get a game and it'll be
cheaper. So
you could sell the game
and
yeah.
Yeah, that's very confusing.
EB Games is weird with pricing sometimes.
If you don't know, EB Games is the Australian version of GameStop.
I was going to say GameSpot.
No, no, that's the game journalist website.
Yeah, it's the Australian version of GameStop.
And if you know anything about GameStop,
you'll know the pricing can be weird sometimes
and way more than it should be.
Actually, on that note,
let's go to Oz Game Shop.
Oz Game Shop, if you don't know about it,
is basically the best website in the entirety of Australia
to actually buy games.
Because the problem with Australian games is they are
excessively overpriced.
Um,
for no, seemingly
no reason.
Uh, but on this website,
it basically goes and imports the US
version and cuts out
the Australia tax.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know like, why games in Australia are. Yeah. I don't know
why games
in Australia are so expensive.
Plus, this doesn't have a brick and mortar source,
so that also does help out as well.
Let's learn how much a Switch is.
Surely it's going to be cheaper here.
I haven't checked it, but it could be.
They might not even be selling
consoles.
No. Can I look at a console?
Wait.
Gaming.
Actually, they might not even sell the console itself.
They might only just sell games.
Okay, they only sell games.
Okay, that's sad.
Okay, well, I can't save a shitload of money then.
Like, new games in Australia usually are, like, at the $90 or $100 range.
A lot of the time here, you can save at least, like, $10 or $15, which is really nice.
And for older games that still end up being,
you know, as expensive as they
were, like, day one,
like, here you can get them
so, so much cheaper. Like, look at this.
Persona 5 Royal.
$48.
Now, if we go to EB
Games, let's find out how
much they're selling Persona 5 Royal for.
Because I guarantee it's not $48.
Wow, actually they are.
Okay, they're having a sale.
Okay, they're having a sale so we
can forget that one. Usually it'll be more
expensive.
Okay, that completely forgets about my point.
But in a lot of cases
the games are considerably cheaper.
Let's see. GTA 5.
Yeah, here we go. GTA 5 is
$2 cheaper on
PS4. Oh, the other
nice thing is you can still go back
and buy PS3 games.
Which, for a lot of
brick-and-mortar game stores, basically don't have PS3 games anymore because it's for a lot of a lot of brick and mortar
game stores basically don't have
PS3 games anymore because it's like
now two generations ago.
You can even go back and buy some
PSP and PS2 games here.
And they've got retro stuff as well,
which is just awesome.
Oh wow, they've got copies of
the Naruto Uzumaki
Chronicles games.
What the hell?
Obviously, they don't have that many games because, you know, it's an ancient console.
But it's still cool to see that there is a very easy way to get games like this.
Like, look at this.
You can even go back and buy SNES stuff. This is just cool. Oh, actually, no. go back and buy, like, SNES stuff. This is just
cool. Oh, actually, no.
This is a re-release SNES stuff.
Okay. Forget this. This is not as cool as I thought
it was. Um, but
having the option there to, like, buy PS2 and
Wii games is cool. Um,
yeah.
I recommend Oz Game Shop. If you don't know about Oz Game
Shop, good
guys.
It's probably cheaper to buy from a US store,
so if you're, you know, not in Australia,
don't buy from there.
But, for the Australians,
avoid giving your money to like,
GB Hi-Fi, EB Games,
Big W maybe, give you money to, because they apparently are charging
not that much for a Switch.
Which is good.
I've been sitting down way too long.
Make sure you stretch
when you stream or something.
I don't know.
I've gotten through...
Actually, no. One topic I want to talk about. I think I got through gotten through... Actually, no.
One topic I want to talk about.
I think I got through most of the topics, though.
What I've been considering doing is...
So, on Mondays...
Mondays is where I usually plan out all of my videos.
And I've been considering...
Actually, not doing that from home.
I've been considering going back down to my old uni
uh because i do have an alumni account and i don't know if that works on like logging into their uh
their network and if it does i'm considering just taking my laptop down and working from there i
think i think it'd be good to like you know get some fresh air and not be at home all the time.
Because as much as I like working from my desk, it's nice to get a different environment.
Obviously, I wouldn't be able to edit videos from that.
That would be a bit difficult.
I know I used to in the past.
I really don't want to do that now, though.
Now that I've got a good system to edit from, I don't want to go back and use it on a bad one but if i'm going to be testing out like cli applications and things like
that or even when i'm doing videos that aren't um aren't program related if i'm just like doing
something let's say news related it will be less convenient having a second screen but i still
think that um i still think it'd be beneficial to
get outside and not be here
sometimes.
So I'm considering it.
And I've got some mates who actually
either work at the uni or
actually still take
classes. I've got one of my mates who's actually going back
and I think doing
a PhD or
something like that, or master's um so he's
at campus as well and that gives me an opportunity to catch up with him as well which I think would
be I think would be nice obviously I'm going there to work so I'm not going to be like hanging out
with people the entire time but being able to meet up with people like that during the day I think
would be uh would actually be a nice change.
And I think also not being at home would help me with, uh, not getting distracted.
Cause I find that when I'm sitting like at my computer normally, I don't get distracted all the time, but I get distracted enough where it's starting to bother me.
Like where it's taking me a bit longer to get stuff done.
Then, then I really would like it to.
Like, I usually plan about five videos on a Monday.
And I usually try to spend like an hour and a half to two hours
on most of the videos.
And I'm spending a bit longer than that on some of them.
Some of them that, obviously, some do need that.
Like, if I'm doing a big research topic, for example,
absolutely, I want to put, like,
good time into it. But if I'm
looking at a terminal application,
I should be able to get that done
considerably quicker than that.
And that's
just not happening in a lot of cases.
Which I
consider to be a bit of a problem.
So hopefully that would be one way to address that.
I'm probably going to head down after my...
Maybe after my live stream tomorrow or something
just to check if it logs in.
Or maybe I'll go down on the weekend.
I'm not going to go in anywhere
just so I can make sure my thing actually works.
If it doesn't work, then it doesn't matter but if it does um yeah i think it it'd be uh i think it'd be good
maybe i'd even make a vlog from the campus as well that could possibly happen i know i talked
about doing that while i was actually studying and just never really got around to it. But I think maybe doing it now.
Would actually be kind of fun.
I could be that weird guy.
Who's not studying anything.
Who could just walk around campus all the time.
I would become the legend of the campus.
The one that all the students are now afraid of.
Maybe not.
Maybe that's a bad thing to do.
The other part of it I think would be fine.
But maybe that part specifically.
Could be a slight problem.
Things that are not slight problems though.
Is I've been keeping an eye on.
How the podcast is doing.
And I think it's just past it.
Nice.
So when I look at my podcast statistics,
I typically ignore this dip.
This just came out today.
So of course it's going to be low.
I typically judge how well the podcast is doing
based on the lows.
Like obviously the peaks go up quite high but i judge if the
podcast is growing based on how well the the worst performing episodes are doing and in this week
this just hit a hundred views on like something that's not like a performer. That one hit 174. So obviously I've hit way more in a week.
But you can see that the podcast is very steadily growing,
which I think is a sign of hopefully me making better content.
I think.
I don't know.
Let me know on YouTube if the podcasts are better than they were
back when I would get two views in an entire week.
Hopefully they are.
But I don't do the podcast
for money, as you can see.
You can get sponsors
on Anchor, it's just that it's not available
for Australia
right now. It's only available, I think
it's still only available in the
US.
Yeah, so I don't make any money on the podcast, at least on YouTube.
I make a bit on Odyssey.
But I still like the idea of seeing the podcast grow
so I can get what I'm trying to say out to more people.
And maybe, I don't know, maybe by the end of the year,
we'll be at like, I don't know, 150 or so.
That would be really cool.
I know the video version...
The video version does well on some episodes.
So, I've noticed that...
I've noticed the Connor episodes aren't really doing too...
Oh, my God.
Wait, you can't see it.
I'm going to.
Oh no you can't see it.
Because you're going to be on the different screen.
I can.
Yes I can bring it up.
I can bring it up on YouTube.
I was just looking at the stats of my.
Of my.
My episode.
And someone
I remember that
someone did this, but
it didn't click
with me until just now that it had happened.
So, Ransom
went and sent the podcast
over to Cyan,
the VTuber I talked about last week.
And she went and commented
on the fucking podcast.
Thank you, Cyan.
I appreciate it.
And now people are trying to get me
to debut as
a VTuber, which
might happen. If people can
bother me enough about it, I might just have
to do it just to make people shut up.
It's not the plan
currently.
But we'll see.
But yeah, as I was saying,
the Connor episodes
aren't doing that well. They're actually being
my worst performers right now.
And I like talking to Connor.
But I think that the episodes that come out from that aren't the most exciting.
I don't know.
I might stop doing the Connor episodes for a while.
Like, the solo episodes do
considerably better. So presumably that means
that people are enjoying them more.
That's how
that logic works in my mind.
But maybe I'm imagining it.
Did the new Hex
episode do better than the old one?
Uh... Wait, if I just look up HexDSL,
surely the new one is done better than the old one.
Not yet.
Okay.
It's on track to do better, I think.
So that one...
Okay, maybe it's not on track.
The old one just did better.
Sure, whatever.
I want to bring Unforunt to the podcast, talk about that. There. Sure. Whatever. I want to bring it on for the podcast.
Talk about that.
There's a couple other people I want to bring on.
It's cool that more people are starting to discover it.
That I think is cool.
And it's cool that more people are watching more of it.
So that indicates to me that people are enjoying it.
I make the podcast because I enjoy
talking. Like, if I
didn't enjoy talking, I wouldn't, like, be
making YouTube videos to begin with,
but I enjoy just rambling
off the top of my head for, like, a couple of hours, and
that's just what this ends up being.
So, I enjoy the solo episodes, I enjoy
the guest episodes.
As I said,
Connor
might, I might
stop those for a while.
That's what I'm thinking. Maybe I'll bring
him back in like
14 episodes instead of
7 episodes, but
that's my thought right now.
I do need to
send DMs to people though and actually
actually ask them to come on
that's my
that's my problem with not that's my problem with bringing
people on I forget to
message them and then I'm like
hey I keep doing solo episodes
uh yeah
it's a problem of my own making
I could very easily have
like a guest on every episode.
I'm also lazy.
I don't know.
Maybe it's less lazy to
message someone
than talk by myself for two hours.
Maybe.
But
the messaging someone...
Hey, look, you might get rejected. You don't want to do it. That's the messaging someone, hey look, you might get rejected
so you don't want to do it. That's the whole thing.
Even though, there are people
I know, who I've brought on
before, who I know would say yes.
Like Hex, for example, who I could just message
straight away and be like, yo, you want to come on?
And be like, yo, when?
But, when it's new people,
there's always that slight little
worry they just won't say yes.
Or they'll, like, ghost you for a while.
Yeah.
I get it, though.
People are busy.
It would just be nice if everyone just responded.
Even if it's not a good response.
Just the tiniest response would be like, no.
Honestly, a no is better than not a good response, just the tiniest response being like, no. Even a no, like, honestly,
a no is better than not having any response whatsoever.
Maybe someone disagrees,
but I feel like at least knowing,
knowing the result is,
it's something.
It's something you can at least work with.
What?
Okay, I'm done. I just looked at Twitter, and I'm done,
so we are getting close to the end anyway, so let's see, who do I want to say you should go check out, let's go to my YouTube subscriptions, and find someone to mention,
someone to mention i think i think you should go actually yeah that's a good one i think can we stop i think you should go check out the trash tapes hot trash taste highlights channel i never
watched like the full trash taste stream um because these guys oh I guess the whole podcast, these guys are so good at clipping.
They clip out basically the entire episode.
Like, you can literally re-watch an entire episode of their podcast
from the clips.
That's way more effort than I have,
but they also have, like, a company backing them.
This is just insane.
And the thumbnails are actually pretty good which is why I
potentially
am partially stealing their style
but they do it better
but yeah go watch Trash Taste Highlights
if you want to hear random
stories from the anime man
Gigguk and SeadogVA
I guess
that's all I have to say really there was a bit earlier in the TheAnimeMan, Gigguk, and SeadogVA, I guess.
That's all I have to say, really.
There was a bit earlier in the podcast that I have to go back and actually cut out.
I showed someone's email address, and I should probably fix that.
Yeah, I'll do that.
So, I think that's going to be pretty much everything for me.
Before I go, I want to thank
I want to thank my supporters.
Wait.
Oh, my thing broke.
My Vim broke because of
dumb plugin stuff that I forgot to remove.
A special thank you to

If you'd like to go on support work, there are my links down below. It's my Patreon, subscribe,
star, leave a comment, that sort of stuff. I've got
the audio version of this available
over literally anywhere
you can find audio podcasts. The video
version is available over on Odyssey
and YouTube, and
my main channel is Brodie Robertson
Plays. No, it's not Brodie Robertson Plays. It's
Brodie Robertson, where I do Linux
videos. My gaming channel, on
the other hand, that is Brodie Robertson Plays,
where I livestream twice a week.
The day after this
comes out, there will be a, probably an
end of the list. No.
The day after this comes out, there will not be a livestream, because the day this comes out, there will be a, probably an end to these, no, the day after this comes out, there will not be a live stream
because the day this comes out, I'm
going, sorry, the day after this
comes out, I will be up at my parents' place.
But,
the following week, there will be live
streams. Um,
and then there's also live streams on the main channel as well.
Will there be guests on this
next week? Probably not. Will there be guests
at some point in the near future?
Hopefully.
Yes.
Hopefully, there will be.
Maybe a certain VTuber that was mentioned in this.
When she eventually decides she's up for it.
Yeah.
That'll be everything for me.
And...
Think I'm out?
I think I'm out.
Yeah.
And...
I'm out.
Actually, that's one thing. I've been
testing a slightly different outro. I'm not sure if I
like the, like,
this thing. This, like, spirit finger thing.
Or if I like the, like, salute thing.
I'm not sure which I prefer. I'm
switching back and forth in some videos.
And I still
haven't worked out which exactly I like. Because, like, when I
say hi to people, I usually do the, like,
salute thing. So, it sort of makes sense
in the real world, but it also
feels weird after how long I've been doing this
to not do this in a video.
So, I don't know.
I'm out.
I'm out. I don't know.
Pick which one you like, let me know in the comment section
down below.
