Good morning, good day, good evening. I am as always your host, Brodie Robertson, and today...
I forgot to close my other notes when I was recording videos just before.
This is episode 95 of Tech of a T.
I'm your host, Brodie Robertson. Did I say that? I don't know. If I said that, then I said it twice. Whatever.
95 Tech of a T. We're not starting again.
This is basically... I think this is the last episode of the podcast
that you guys are going to see this year.
I still have an episode to record because I always record the episodes
usually around like the Wednesday or Thursday before they come out.
That's why if I talk about news, you know, the news is always very,
very out of date.
But that's what happens.
So I don't actually have any like end of year stuff planned for the podcast.
I can say, hey look, here's how much
the podcast is growing. Actually, you know I'm going to do that.
Let's have a look at how much the podcast is growing over this year.
If Anchor's
going to load. It wasn't working yesterday.
Okay, we're good now.
Ignore the big dip here.
That's because I just uploaded an episode today.
This is normal.
But, let's see.
So end of year last year.
So I don't usually look at the peaks.
Because as you can see, the peaks don't...
Well, they've certainly grown.
But they don't grow as much as...
What's more important in my case is the floor.
And as you can see, the floor has definitely been going up for quite a while. Now,
like on a bad week, like we still get like 96 views on the audio version. So clearly,
I think this is just counting the... I actually don't know what it's counting. I think it's just
Spotify. It might be counting other platforms as well. If it is counting other platforms,
I don't know how it is magically doing that.
Maybe it's just counting with hits.
I don't know.
Either way, podcast is clearly growing on the audio side.
The video side is doing basically how it's always been doing.
It is going up for sure.
I believe we are a bit less than 80 subs away from 1,000.
I'm not going to monetize the podcast for quite a while
because there's literally no reason to enable monetization
when I'm getting...
How many views does it get on?
I think it's maybe a couple thousand a month.
Let's see.
But at that point, it's...
Let's see.
I'm going to give you the exact number actually
so where is it analytics
3 700 last month like that's what maybe on around this time of year like four dollars four dollars
um like a month and that would mean it would take literally
two years to get a payout. So, like,
I'm not monetizing the podcast
anytime soon. Maybe at some point, I'll be
able to get, like, a sponsor on the, uh,
a sponsor on it, but as for
enabling AdSense, even if I could, I
won't actually have a, um, even if I could do it
because I don't have enough, uh,
view, or enough hours watched on
YouTube, I wouldn't bother doing so.
Also you may have noticed that I actually changed out.
If I remember to do so.
I'm going to remember to do so now that I've said it.
Changed out the way that I'm actually doing my thumbnails.
So now I'm doing like a highlight around myself.
So I sort of pop out more from the background.
Because I felt like.
I don't know.
Because I have a dark background.
I usually wear dark shirts. I sort of blend too much into the background. It doesn't make the
thumbnails pop as much as I'd like them to and it then keeps it more in line with what I do on the
the main channel as well. I am not 100% set on how I'm going to make the changes and whether I'm
going to keep the same changes I've done, but I will be making slight changes like that going to the new year, and just
sort of working out, I guess, the new style that I want the, uh, I want the podcast to have.
Yeah, um, we've got a lot of things on the list, as always, because I, I've sort of been planning
too much over the past couple of episodes, and getting to the end of the podcast being like wow i still have like seven topics left um which makes it easy because then i can like things
that aren't news topics i can roll into the next week and that's less work that week that means my
list then gets longer and i roll more into the next week until at some point i will get to a
week where i have so many topics from the previous week that it's basically, I don't have to plan anything.
We're not there yet, but it might happen. Speaking of planning, I didn't plan to record
eight videos this week. So normally I do six videos and I plan out six videos this week,
or in a week. This week I planned out seven and recorded eight. I had extra
time because I am not doing a podcast this week because I want to take a break, but next week,
I'm not going to be doing it. The reason why I did eight videos this week is because at the end of
the week today, as I'm recording this, I actually recorded them earlier today uh two sort of relatively big topics came out that i wanted
to cover sort of as quickly as possible um the first one being the new theme on the arch wiki
and the second one being the whole uh tiktok obs situation if anyone who didn't sort of
who doesn't know anything about either of those situations,
basically the Arch
Wiki, we'll start with that one. Yeah, we'll start
with that one. So the Arch Wiki now has
a new theme.
Why is it showing me
Why is it not showing me logged in? I literally
logged in before.
Oh, so you can't see it because
it decided to break. There we go. So, this is the
new theme. You can't really see it super well, but yeah, you can see like half the screen. So,
basically, there's a lot of extra white space now. I'm not a fan of it, but as you can see,
it works out pretty well on a more compressed window. I think this actually looks pretty good.
on a more compressed window.
I think this actually looks pretty good.
And this is a change that was made to make it work better on mobile.
Now, the developer decided to make this change
without really asking any of the user base.
So clearly, it led to a little bit of backlash
when this happened.
Luckily, as I said, if you make an account,
you can disable it.
There's also a query string you can pass in.
I think it's like use skin version equals one,
if I recall correctly, and then it swaps back to the old skin.
Basically, the reason why it was done is because MediaWiki,
the project that the ArchWiki is based on,
like most wiki projects, like say Wikipedia,
is making some changes upstream.
One of the things they were using to have responsive design before
now no longer works in the version 1.36 of MediaWiki
that they're using now.
So if they wanted to have that same responsive design...
Sure, camera dive for a second. If they wanted to have that same responsive design Sure camera dive for a second if they wanted to have that same responsive design then they would need to go and
basically
swap to the new theme
And go like that which is really strange because the new theme isn't actually part of the stable build yet
Or it's not like it's not officially supported like it's in the build
But you have to go out of your way to enable it.
So it's weird they disabled the responsiveness of the old skin
when you're not really supposed to move to the new skin.
You probably noticed that Wikipedia and most other wiki sites
have not moved over to the new version yet,
so it's really strange that you would do that.
But that's one of the things I wanted to cover.
The other one, is there anything else to say about that?
It's basically just a new theme for the Arch Wiki.
Personally, I don't like it.
As I said, it looks fine for a smaller
screen like this, but like, this is
dumb. I don't want to see half my
screen just not being used. You can make
the argument that it's better for readability
because, you know, you don't
want to have text stretching across the entire screen, all that fun stuff. I don't know how true that is. I find it
easier to read text that is going across the entire screen because it means I don't have to scroll as
much. But there are arguments the other way as well. so as long as I have the option to disable the new layout,
I'm going to be fine. If I don't have that option, well there are tools to go and basically query
from the Arch Wiki and then just open it up in your terminal and maybe I'll just end up having
to do that instead. Or maybe I'll just live with it or come up with a new CSS theme that fixes it anyway.
I'll just live with it or come up with a new CSS theme that fixes it anyway. As for the OBS situation,
basically, TikTok decided to make a project called TikTok Live Studio. TikTok Live Studio is basically, it's a live streaming app. Now, like most live streaming apps, it's based on OBS,
app. Now, like most live streaming apps, it's based on OBS. Like, because it's just easier to base it on OBS than build your own thing. Because OBS is just, it's just a good application.
This is why Streamlabs built Streamlabs OBS on the OBS project. Now, building it on OBS isn't
the problem by itself. Like, that's not a big deal. You can build something on OBS perfectly fine.
The problem is that OBS is licensed under GPLv2.
So if you're going to be building something on top of the OBS project,
you need to make sure you actually follow the license that is applied to OBS.
Now, being a GPLv2 project,
that means that you either have to distribute the source
code through some means, or you have to provide a method that people can acquire the source code.
Typically most projects that use GPLv2 are just going to distribute the source code online,
because for the most part that's the easiest method to do it and
unless you're hiding something there's really no reason to not distribute it
but there are and some people did argue with me about this there are sort of ways that companies
can get around the whole just distribution requirement while still technically following it
so you'll see some companies like umidigi for example that will actually start with that one. We'll go with that one second.
The more common one you'll see is companies requiring you to like send them an address and then they'll send you a
CD or a thumb drive that contains the source code. So by the time you get the source code it's multiple
weeks out of date that's perfectly valid and while that's annoying i don't think anyone would complain
about that the one that people may complain about is what companies like umidigi did for example
where to get the source code they required you actually visiting their headquarters I can't remember what city it's in in China
but
they required you visiting
their headquarters
in China so obviously
for most people that's
completely ridiculous
and nobody's gonna go and get that
source code unless you're insane
and you actually do spend
the time unless you actually do live in
china and you do go and actually visit the headquarters like um sexy cyborg did naomi woo
or you know if you just catch a plane to china and you do it like that anyway um
that is it's a really scummy way to handle the GPL requirement, but it's a problem that's built into GPLv2 because of how old the
license is. GPLv2 was made in 1991. In 91, yes, there was internet. The internet's existed since
like the 60s or 70s. Obviously not public use, but it has existed in some form. But most people still didn't have internet in 91.
I know for sure that I didn't,
even though we did have a personal computer at home.
So that being the case,
it was made in a time when the internet was not this widespread thing.
It was not as easy to store hundreds of megabytes of source code on the internet.
So that's not something
that's built directly into the GPLv2 license. It's not built into GPLv3 either.
Even though GPLv3 came out, I want to say 2006, but I could be wrong on the year.
GPLv3 2007 okay that was close
GPLv3
doesn't have that requirement either
it does have some other
things that weren't really a thing at the point
at that point addressing things
like some stuff related
to smart devices
but even so it's still
it's still very much lacking
in terms of what is
possible on the internet nowadays.
I don't think anyone would really argue against requiring the source code to be stored somehow online.
But that might get you into a weird situation where you could then...
At some point, we'd move past the Web 2 standards we're using nowadays,
At some point, we'd move past the Web 2 standards we're using nowadays, and then you'd have to sort of argue whether those Web 2-based...
That camera... Oh, that poll looks really leaning.
Would those Web 2-based licenses then apply on Web 3?
Or if this Web 3 is sort of, like, different to the Web 2 internet?
It's very...
Restricting your licenses in such a way
makes it so you either open up loopholes
or you make the license too restrictive
and no one really wants to use it.
And either of those outcomes really aren't great.
So you have to be very careful
with sort of like the kind of terms you actually include
when you're going to be including things like that in a license.
So I don't think the way that GPLv2 handles it is bad,
but it does lead to some companies not really...
Following GPLv2 by the letter of the law,
but not really following the
spirit of GPLv2. Oh god,
the cat's very close to the...
No, don't knock that over.
You guys, if you're
listening to Audio Version right now, then
you won't see this, but my cat
is leaning right up against the light
stand and has been bumping
it.
What are you doing? Don't attack me. My cat is leaning right up against the light stand and has been bumping it.
What are you doing?
Don't attack me.
Eh?
What do you think you're doing?
Hopefully, that doesn't fall down during the recording of the podcast,
but I would not be surprised, to be completely honest.
So, let me know in the comments what you guys did over Christmasmas so in my case i didn't really do a ton um i went to go spend some time
with my family um basically that meant i had to go drive like two hours to get to my parents place
and then i spent there uh spent the weekend there basically doing nothing but suffering from the heat
because it was very hot that weekend.
I believe it got to like 36, 37 degrees Celsius.
Not as bad as the previous year where there was a day that was 51 degrees Celsius,
but still hot enough where I'm like, I don't want to go outside.
So we stayed home for the most part drinking
because that's what you do on Australian Christmas.
It's hot and you drink.
My sister was there as well, and we played some board games,
and that's about it, to be completely honest.
We had some lunch.
Not a very Christmassy lunch.
My sister's boyfriend brought some, uh, brought
some fried rice. It's like,
okay, fried rice, the most,
the most Christmassy thing you'll
ever imagine. Um,
and then besides the fried rice, there was, like,
ham and, uh, we had
chicken there, uh, but we never
actually, like, pulled the chicken apart,
so we didn't actually eat any of the chicken.
So we had ham
and other forms of ham
and more ham and some salad.
So like, you know, very
very Christmas-y dinner.
Let me see if I can annoy the cat.
What are you doing?
What are you doing, hey? Don't attack me. I just want to pat you.
Hey, is that good?
I can feel your claw. Hey, I can feel that claw. Let me just record
the podcast. Stop being adorable. Anyway, um, yeah. Christmas. We don't really ever do that
much for Christmas anyway. That's usually, like, that's sort of the extent of Christmas, just lunch and
drinking, sometimes we'll have a barbecue, I don't know why we didn't do a barbecue this year,
actually, it actually would have been nice, I haven't had a barbecue for quite a while,
we do have a barbecue here that I could use, I'm just lazy, and I don't want to clean it,
I've been, I've needed to clean it for, like, a year now, and I just haven want to clean it. I've been... I've needed to clean it for like a year
now and I just haven't.
And that means I just haven't used it for a year.
Also, I think the gas
bottle with it is out of date as well.
So,
I probably should replace
that before
it becomes a problem.
But,
I also could just not.
And just not.
Maybe I'll deal with it when I get to the new place.
When I move there.
I believe the.
I've been saying February.
But I think the tenants move out in March.
So I'll probably.
Hopefully be there.
I doubt it.
But I might be there before my birthday. I might be there. I would I might be there before my birthday
I might be there, I would like
to be there before my birthday, that would be great
but
I really doubt it, my birthday is in
April for anyone who doesn't know
I've been having thoughts about like how
I actually want to
approach the new room
so
I'll see if I. So, I'll see
if I can find... I'll find a
picture of the room and not show you the address
because that would be really stupid.
Oh, I didn't search for it on
here?
I believe the room is
4x3.
4x3 sounds correct. I believe the room is four by three.
Four by three sounds correct.
Where is it?
Here we go.
Property photos.
Got a last one.
Why are there so many property photos?
Jesus Christ.
Okay. Here we Christ. Okay.
Here we go.
Okay, so save that one.
Put that there.
And then if we close that one so you can't see the address anymore.
And then open this up in my browser.
Here we go. So here is how the new room will look.
So it's 4x3. This right here is how the new room will look. So, it's 4x3.
This right here is a window.
And then this right here is the built-in wardrobe.
So, I'm not sure if this 3 is based on where the door is located or where the built-in is located.
My assumption is because this built-in was clearly built there with the house,
it's based on the location of the door.
So that should effectively give me 4x3.
So...
Or 4x3.
Yeah, 4x3.
So what I'm thinking is probably splitting this room...
I should have actually...
There actually is a tool I can use to like
draw on stuff that I should go and actually set up, but I don't have it set up right now.
So I'll split this room in half probably like this. I'm not sure... I think I'll put
the the desk on this side. So on the side closest to the window and then the bed
on the other side. The bed's probably going to end up like mostly blocking the built-in,
but I really don't give a shit.
And then probably have like a bedside or bed and table to put like the TV on.
Then this, basically half of this room is going to be my studio.
So no longer will the bed be in the background.
Then I'm not sure what's going to go in the background.
I'm probably going to put my bookshelf there, to be honest.
And the bookshelf is full, so maybe I'll get a second one.
And I might, if I have space, I might put, like, a table in the middle or something.
And put something there.
Fancy, I don't know.
Maybe.
I'll think of something.
I'm thinking maybe, a... Like a...
A penguin plushie that looks like Tux and putting it there.
That might work.
Maybe put a light around it or something.
I'm also probably going to do sound foam.
I'm not sure how much it's going to cost.
I'm not sure how much I'm going to need to worry about.
Because I'm not going to sound from everything.
Say if I have
what's the word?
The bookshelves
here. I'm not going to bother putting sound foam
behind them because the bookshelves will already disperse
the sound anyway, but any points that
either aren't this built-in
wardrobe or
aren't being covered, I'm probably going to put sound foam up.
So that means it's probably going to cost quite a bit,
which is not great, but it's fine.
I'll make it work.
And I kind of want to put lights between some of the sound foam as well.
So I can't obviously sound foam the entire wall.
I'll have probably a better solution
than my current solution, so in case anyone doesn't know, my current solution for blocking out my,
the light from here is, uh, not great, this is a bed sheet, uh, it, it's also a bit thin, so it lets in
more light than I would like, I'm probably gonna to get something not set up to be like that.
Maybe I'll get blackout curtains.
That might not be a bad idea.
If I don't get blackout curtains,
I'll just get something better than the setup I currently have.
But those bits that aren't the window,
I'll probably get a tube light.
I know you can get Phillips hues that will probably do what I want it to do.
I think that's what Connor,
CdogVA, uses.
Philips...
Basically, I'm going to copy that from his
setup. Philips Hue
tube light.
There are other tube lights that will work as well.
The advantage of the
Philips Hue, though, is
you get the amount of gradient.
With a lot of tube lights, the way you change their color is you apply different gels to them.
Which is fine if you're doing shooting.
But if you want to just have something during a live stream or something like that.
Like image shooting, not video shooting.
If you want to have something during a live stream,
it probably would be a better idea to do it like that.
That's my thought anyway.
Either that or I could get...
I do have a thing of RGB lights that I could use as well.
They're sitting in my wardrobe right now.
They've been in there for a year
because I was going to do something with them here.
But now that I'm moving, I'm just not going to bother. So maybe
maybe
I put tube lights
between some of the
sound foam here and here
and then somehow
make use of those
LED strips as well.
I'm not sure where I would make
use of them. Maybe...
I don't want to...
The problem I have with my current setup is I feel like
I have too much coloured light.
Obviously there's just that one there,
but I sort of want it to be a bit more
subdued in the new place. The only reason
I have so much light back there is
because there's nothing there. Like, it's a boring
wall.
But I feel like there are better ways.
That I can handle this.
Given a better space to work with.
So I'm still.
I'm still debating on how I approach this.
And how much money I want to spend sound foaming.
I may not even just sound from the entire room.
I might sound from half the room.
And just see what it's like.
Because if it's eliminating most of the echo then,
then it's not really that big of a deal.
My current room, even though I know it's going to be echoey,
I'm certain it's going to be echoey because my current room,
it's echoey as it is.
So a bigger room is surely going to be more echoey. I believe my current
space, for anyone who is curious
is, I think it's like
two and a half by three
so it's sort of like
an extra meter and a half to work with
which might not
sound like a lot, but
when you are in this absolutely
fucking tiny space
it really, really is a lot.
And it's really going to make shooting a lot easier.
It's also going to make it possible for me to do things where I'm not sitting at the desk.
I want to get a standing desk as well.
We wanted to get one for quite a while.
Then I can have that there.
Because the TV then won't be on the desk, it'll be easier i'll have more space on the desk i can move the camera back
further i can make use of a new lens so that'll blur out the background more um i might also get
myself like a card table that i'll bring out every so often and stick it like obviously it won't be
there in most shots but like if i need it for i
don't want to b-roll for a product review maybe i want to do something on a live stream um i could
bring out a card table and do stuff there as well i think that would be really really cool as well
um and i do have a green screen i want to make use of and that i'll actually have space to be
able to make use of it so maybe during live streams every so often,
I'll use the green screen.
Maybe I'll do that for regular videos.
I don't know.
I'm not set on anything that I want to do.
This new place and then any places I move after that,
I'm going to make sure that I actually have the space to work with.
I moved in here when I had basically no
money um but my situation is very different from then um so I sort of want to give myself more
space and give myself the ability to be more creative with what I actually have um and I think
just having more space will also mean I can very I can much more easily rest right now
like I basically just get out my chair and I'm in my bed like I can't move my chair back
further than this this is as far back as my chair goes this is still at a point where I can
comfortably use my desk that's how tiny this room is right now.
But this new place will give me a lot more space to work with.
I don't think I'm ever going to get myself a studio like DT has, but I can't say.
Maybe if I hit 100k subs or something, at some point I'll decide, yeah, maybe I do want to do that.
subs or something at some point i'll decide yeah maybe i do want to do that but there are things that there are things before a uh a studio that would improve the content that i think
would make more sense first like an editor um way before i even consider uh getting a studio
like i'm happy having a house studio if i can have it in a separate room then like where i'm
sleeping that's all i'd want like when i get my own place i'll get a house studio if I can have it in a separate room where I'm sleeping, that's all I'd want
when I get my own place
I'll get a three bedroom so I can have
a guest room so if people want to stay over
they can use that, but then turn one of the bedrooms
into an office, then have the other
bedroom be
an actual studio
does it studio twice?
one be a bedroom, one be a studio
basically separate them out so I don't have them in the same room.
But an editor
I think would improve the content. I've been
trying to mess around a bit with my editing,
trying out a little bit more
every so often, but
there's only so much time I want to spend
editing, really. Editing isn't
the thing that I find fun
about content creation. I sort of enjoy
the research side and the recording
side. If I could offload the editing of someone who actually enjoys it and someone who's actually
good at it, I think it would be a good idea. That's not me offering a job for anyone who's
asking right now. I don't have the money to pay for an editor, but at some point, if I did,
then I would like to have that.
And somehow, we've already got to the 30-minute mark.
So I think we'll just take a break there.
So I was speaking about Christmas before.
And I mentioned that I was up there with my sister.
She's got a Switch and her partner has a Switch as well.
I'm kind of really tempted to buy a Switch lately.
Unlike the PS5, which is very expensive. I think it's like 750 dollars in Australia if you can buy one
Let's see. I think it's 750 or 800 ps5
750 yes, but you cannot buy them
Or can you buy them? Maybe you can buy them here. Oh, maybe you can buy them here. Okay, that's cool. Anyway, there's like maybe one or two games I care to play on the PS5.
That would be the new Ratchet and Clank game and Demon's Souls.
Anything else, I can play on my PC.
If I want to play Tales of Arise, sure, I could play it on the PS5. But I could play it on my PC. Like, if I want to play Tales of Arise, sure, I could play it on the PS5,
but I could play it on my PC.
If I want to play...
Let's say I care about the new Assassin's Creed
for whatever reason.
Yeah, I could play it on PS5,
but I could play it on PC as well.
There's just really not anything on the PS5
or the new Spider-Man game.
I don't usually play superhero games, but if I
did, it looks like a really cool game.
But I can play it on PC
anyway.
If I want to play a party game,
overcooked, like the
what is it? Overcooked All You Can Eat.
I can play it on PS5,
but yeah, I can play it on PC. Like, everything
that is available that I'd want to play on the PS5,
I can play on PC.
Besides those like three games that I care about.
And I can't really justify a $750 console for three games.
Obviously, it does act as a PS4 Pro as well.
And that is slightly tempting, I guess, but not really.
It just doesn't really matter to me that much.
Now, the Switch, on the other hand, the Switch is considerably cheaper, being $450 in Australia.
So, obviously, still a lot of money, but $300
less. Like, almost half
the price of the PS5.
Um,
and, there's more
games I want to play on it. Like, I want to
play the new Pokemon game. I want to play
Bro- Oh, it's not new, I guess.
It's the remake of the old games.
My- One of the
um, or the first Pokemon game I
got new was
Pokemon Pearl.
So I do hold like Shining
I will hold Brilliant Dione and Shining
Pearl up to a high standard but
they look like fairly
faithful remakes even down to
all of the bugs they had.
That looks fun.
I want to play the new Pokemon game that comes out,
the Legend of Arceus, or Arceus, however you want to pronounce it.
I want to play Shin Megami Tensei V.
Like, even though there's still...
I also want to play Breath of the Wild.
I've heard Breath of the Wild is an amazing game.
And there's this next Breath of the Wild game that's coming out at some point.
Plus there's a bunch of JRPGs that are worth playing that are only on the Switch as well.
There are more games I want to play on the Switch.
And it's cheaper.
And you can get pretty good bundles with it so you have this one
here which is the switch with two games which are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and you
know I'm I don't really care about Mario Kart too much but like hey I'll take
free Mario Kart I don't even remotely care about Mario on Rabbids a Rabbids
destroyed the Rayman series but hey chuck this one in
here and that gives you slightly uh a slightly cheaper console it basically just cut the price
just you know by 10 or so dollars this is a pretty good deal and because the ps5 is always sold out, I don't think any deals really exist from what I can see.
Like there are
reasons why I might want to buy this console. I am very much considering it and
maybe I'll buy one before Christmas or before like the the Christmas sales end.
I don't think this one's on sale. Yeah, it's not even discounted. This is just the regular price.
I'm thinking about it.
Maybe I'll do it, maybe I won't.
You'll hear about it if I do do it,
but I'm
certainly thinking about buying the Switch.
And yes, I know
I could just go and, you know,
I could go and emulate it through the
Yuzu emulator yeah yeah yeah i'm
well aware but i don't want to do that like firstly my pc is not going to be powerful enough
to do that at a point where it'd be justifiable secondly like i actually want to go and support
a good system like the switch seems like a probably one one of the better consoles you can get right now
and I want to support it if I'm
going to be playing games on it
have I talked about the way
that I approach emulation?
the way that I
approach it basically is
if the game is off market
and you can't
or if the game and the console it's on
or the system it's on is off market
i don't really care about emulation like if you want to do it go ahead if you don't
that's fine like i don't ever get the idea of oh i bought a second-hand copy of the game now
it's okay to emulate it like you haven't given the developer for that game any money like you
buying a second-hand game is just you giving money to either the person
selling it or the second-hand store that's selling it. You're not actually supporting the developer,
so I don't really know why people hold the idea of buying a second-hand game as this weird
requirement to emulate stuff. So take, for example, I'm playing through Shin Megami Tensei 3 right now.
I don't own a copy of it. Like, it's,
it's a PS2 game. Sure, I could have bought the HD remake, but I didn't want to play the HD remake.
I want to play the original version. So, I played the original PS2 version, and I don't feel bad
about it. Like, some people might say, oh, you buy the, buy the remake, and yeah, I can, I can
understand that. And in many ways, I probably should have played the remake because in some ways, it's actually a better game.
For example, when you fuse demons,
basically, you get abilities from both the demons on that new one.
In the original version, when you fuse them,
you got random abilities.
So you basically had to keep re-rolling
until you got abilities you liked.
In the remake, along with SMT5,
you can select the abilities, which is a much
much better system, and will save
me re-rolling a demon for 20
minutes trying to get a good set of rolls.
And sometimes
you think all
the abilities are transferable, but sometimes
some of them aren't. So you keep rolling
and rolling and rolling and never find the set you actually want and you're like why am i even doing this like why
am i just spending my time re-rolling this demon for something i have no idea if even exists
but anyway um yeah that's the way that i approach emulation at least and it's fine if you don't care
about it like that if you if you're happy to emulate games that are still on market,
I'm not going to tell you not to.
Because I can't stop you.
I can say, you shouldn't do it.
That's bad.
Buy the game, whatever.
But if you're going to do it like that,
then you're going to do it like that.
And that's basically as far as it really goes.
But back to the Switch anyway.
Um.
Actually was there anything I had to say about the Switch.
Besides what I said.
Actually maybe not.
Maybe there wasn't.
Hmm.
Hmm.
It's not like I need more games to play.
I already have like.
A lot of games to play.
I really should do a bit of like spring
cleaning in this room this is something I've been
considering also for a while
I've got a lot of just shit in here
that I don't know why
I ever bought
that I probably should just get rid of
like there are some games I have here that
I don't know why I ever bought it because there's no
chance I'm ever actually going to play it
like most of the games I have here are like JRPGs and I like my JRPGs, so I will play those.
But for some reason, I have a copy of Burnout Paradise.
Like, I don't know why.
Why did I buy a copy of Burnout Paradise?
I really don't know.
Yeah.
I really don't.
I actually have no idea why that's there.
Like, I bought it a while ago,
and it's just been sitting there,
and I haven't had any desire to actually play it.
But under this bed,
I have a bunch of stuff that I've bought over the time.
I've been here, and at the last place I've been at...
Oh.
Oh, I'm very shiny right now.
And... Yeah, just like, it's very shiny right now. And.
Yeah, it's just hot in here.
That I probably should get around to getting rid of.
Because I'm going to do so when I get to the new place anyway.
So maybe I should just spend the time a little bit earlier.
Just to save myself a bit of time then.
Moving is going to be like a bit of time then. Moving is
going to be a weird process
because I'm going to be doing it
probably over the course of
a week or so.
I'm going to get a lot of my stuff out,
all of the smaller stuff out,
probably
a week or so beforehand. Any of
the books here, any of the
stuff on my desk i don't need um
obviously you know the recording stuff is going to stay for as long as it basically until like the
last day or the last day that i record stuff but i don't actually have the ability to transfer my
bed so that's going to stay here until my parents help me move, and, um, yeah, that's, that's basically, basically
how that goes, I guess, um, oh, actually, I did have something else about the Switch here,
so if you buy Pokemon Shining Diamond and Shining, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl,
I always get the names backwards, uh, and you then go and buy the new Arceus game that's coming out,
named backwards, uh, and you then go and buy the new Arceus game that's coming out, uh, like with those games, you get some bonus Pokemon, so there's going to be a, uh, I guess a Darkrai
sort of event that you unlock, which actually is kind of cool, um, I think it's sort of, it is kind
of cool to encourage you to buy the other Pokemon games, like, hey, here are the other, these other
cool games we're working on. Go and
support them, I guess. But I do like
the way that it's sort of
laid out, the rewards.
Because even they know
the rewards that people actually care about.
So, if you
end up playing these
games and you have save file in your console,
you'll get Darkrai, or you'll have
an event to get Darkrai, and you'll also get a new costume the uh designed after the modern galactic outfits and
that's cool um if you have a copy of sword and shield you'll be able to get a shaman which also
is pretty cool but i love how they they're fully aware that no one gives a shit about Let's Go Pikachu
and Let's Go Eevee,
because you won't get a Pokemon,
you'll receive a free Pikachu or Eevee mask,
which is cool.
Cosmetics are cool.
And sure, maybe someone will really care about a cosmetic,
but like,
the cosmetic is going to be uh far far less uh focused on than the other two in here
maybe i'll go and play sword and shield as well i've heard the sword and shield aren't
great pokemon games but i can't remember the last time i even played a pokemon game
to be when was it what was the last game played? I don't know what year it was.
I think the last game I played
was Pokemon
Black or Pokemon White?
Whichever one it was in that generation.
And I got maybe like
three gym badges in.
I was like, I'm done. I don't want to
play this game anymore.
I'm going to go do something else.
I think the problem that Black and White had is they were coming off of HeartGold and SoulSilver,
which I think you could probably argue are two of the best Pokemon games ever made.
I genuinely love HeartGold and SoulSilver. I think they are actually amazing.
And not just for DS Pokemon games.
I think they were
probably the best
Pokemon games we've had.
Probably in the entire franchise.
Plus it had the ability
to have a Pokemon actually
following you, which has only really
just been recently brought back.
But unlike in Shining Pearl,
Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl, BDSP,
unlike BDSP, the models don't look ridiculous.
So BDSP, Onix, Follow. Some of the Pokemon, like Onix follow.
Some of the Pokemon like Onix following you look kind of dumb
because they sort of just shrink down the 3D sprite
and it just, it doesn't really work.
Whereas with HeartGold and SoulSilver,
they had these like chibi sprites instead.
And the chibi sprite, I think, works.
I think the chibi sprite makes a bit more sense.
And fits with the art style of the game.
Having an Onix or a Wailord that's smaller than the size of the player, I think, just looks really, really strange.
And it just stands out, basically.
sort of just it just stands out basically but i don't know how else you'd really approach it without having custom i guess custom models
probably would be the best way custom models that make it look chibi alongside your player
because that's sort of the way the player characters are handled so you have these chibi
models in the uh the overworld and then in battles you have the bigger form.
I think that actually does work.
If that was done with the Pokemon as well, I think it would have worked as well.
The problem is that then you'd have to create tons and tons more models just for the follow feature.
And compared to creating sprites like you'd do with HeartGold and SoulSilver
obviously that's going to be considerably more work
and yeah it would be but I guess Game Freak does have the money to do it
maybe they just didn't have the time considering the wing goal animation in Sword and Shield
you know I wouldn't be surprised if they're just on an extremely strict,
uh, extremely strict, uh, strict schedule that they're just not allowed to leave.
But that's Pokemon. It's an incredibly, uh, incredibly successful franchise that doesn't
have the money or the time to actually do anything, uh, do anything great.
time to actually do anything uh do anything great and that people joke about things like fifa being basically the same game every single year but that's what pokemon's been since the first game
if you break down pokemon to its like its gameplay loop and the mechanics that exist in it
sure there have been some changes over the years, but it's basically the same game
from
99... I want to say 98.
Uh, Pokemon...
We'll go with the Japanese
version. Pokemon Green. When did
Green come out? 99.
99
is when those versions came out.
So, a little bit later in
the, uh... A little bit later in the a little bit later in the
American market. When did
red come out? Red and
blue.
Wait, are the way, what?
Oh, wait, no. Wait, what?
Oh!
Wait, you just gave me the wrong date.
Okay, so red and green came out in 96 in Japan.
Then Blue...
Wait.
Oh, right.
Red and Green came out in 96.
Then there was also a Blue for Japan as well.
And then Red and Blue, the different games that are not the same as the Japanese original games, came out in 98.
Right, okay, there we go.
Finally got an answer.
I like how for Australia it says it came out in 98.
It doesn't say when it came out.
I just don't know.
It just came out at some point in 98.
Where was I going with this?
Where the hell was I going with this? Where the hell was I going with this?
Uh...
Right, Pokemon same game every single game.
The gameplay loop, like the get 8 badges,
do the Elite Four,
maybe have a post-game boss?
That's basically it.
I guess the newer games have added some extra things,
like the...
What are they called?
Like the... We can go things like the Elite Trainers.
There's basically more end game bosses.
And there is the go back and fight the Elite Four again and I'll have harder Pokemon.
But besides Sun and Moon, I guess, there wasn't really a major shift in the gameplay.
But even in Sun and Moon, it's still basically a gym system.
It's just a gym system with a slightly different name.
I don't know how you sort of get away with that without completely ruining what people actually care about in the franchise.
But there's just been so many pokemon games that
are basically the same formula that at some point if you play all of them it is going to
it is going to start wearing you down i guess one of the benefits the newer games have now
they've sort of scrapped the whole national decks idea is that you are going to see new pokemon
every generation sure there's going to be your
repeats, like in Diamond and Pearl, you can still get a Magikarp, but we don't have the whole,
I guess, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, we don't have the whole National Dex, you don't end
up seeing all of the exact same Pokemon, which I can sort of understand why you'd be annoyed about, because, hey, the
National Dex is a really cool idea, but also, it's, like, the National Dex is something that gets harder
and harder every single generation to make. Like, sure, when you had, uh, Kanto and Johto, fine, you have, it wasn't that many Pokemon. I
want to say around 200, but I might be wrong on the number. Maybe it's close to 250. But then you
get into fourth gen, or third generation, and fourth generation, and fifth generation, and the
number keeps going up and up and up. And at some point, you're going to hit a thousand Pokemon. And
especially when you're going up to a game that moves to like a newer graphical system that's a lot of work to do
once again though pokemon company and game freak do have a lot of money and can sort of justify it
but it is a lot of work um and i can see why you would why you would just not bother doing it
especially when most players probably are
not going to finish the entire National
Dex. Like, sure, maybe some of them
will spend the time
trading stuff in and all that fun stuff,
but like, outside
of those people,
outside of those people, it's really just
not going to happen.
But moving away from
whatever the hell
I was talking about, National Dex and all that fun stuff,
do you want to know
what the
Microsoft's Cortana would have been called
if Steve Ballmer ended up getting
his way? Because it wouldn't have been Cortana.
And do you know what? I feel
like it would have been a better idea if he
got his way. Cortana would and do you know what? I feel like it would have been a better idea if he got his way.
Cortana would be named Bingo if Steve Ballmer got his way.
Ballmer? Ballmer? Whatever you want to say it.
Uh, Bingo. Like
the dog.
Steve Ballmer wanted
Cortana AI to be called Bingo
so it would be more Microsoft branded.
Also because it would be
Bingo, get it?
Because bing, bingo, haha funny.
I think everyone would just joke about it being a dog.
That's according to former Microsoft product manager
Sandeep Paruchu.
I don't know how to say that name.
Who recounted the story of how Microsoft's AI system
got its name to writer Alice Newton-Rex
as part of a
deep dive into Cortana's origins.
You know,
I think Bingo probably would have been better.
I think
the reason why they scrapped it is because
Bingo is a dog name. I think
that's the reason why they did ultimately
scrapped it.
Scrap it. Scrapped it.
Scrap it.
But I don't know anyone who actually uses Cortana.
Like, the only people I know who use Cortana
are people who try to disable Cortana
and it just does not want to be disabled
and it ends up just turning
itself back on, and not letting it go away, like, you can disable it in registry edits,
you do a system update, and then it's like, hey, I'm Cortana, you want some help? I'm like, no,
my, fuck off, my, I don't want your stupid AI bullshit I just wanna fucking work and that's
basically how it goes that is basically how it goes mmm Oh air-conditioned on Oh You get there, Chase? Hey?
Come here.
Come here.
Hello.
Can you not claw my hand when you do that?
Hey?
Can you not claw my hand?
Ow.
Cat's an arsehole.
Don't get yourself a cat.
Bad idea.
Like, they're cute. Then they'll be like, oh, yeah, you know what, your hand is a scratching pole, oh, yeah, oh, even though I'm
happy with you patting me, I'm just gonna, like, claw at you, because that's what I do, because
I'm a fucking cat, ow, ow, I have got many scratches on my hand right now.
I've actually got a big scratch on the side of my stomach as well.
When he did not want to leave my room because he'd seen a dog in the lounge room a few hours earlier and assumed that if he was going to be put out there, he would be eaten.
But that's just how it is, that,
that do be life, that's what happens when you have a cat that's never seen a dog in its entire life,
it's just, I don't know what to do with this, I am going to run the hell away, and if you're
going to put me anywhere near it, I am going to make sure that you do not ever, ever want to come near me ever again.
Yeah.
Yup. I'm actually burning through these topics much, much
quicker than I thought I did.
I don't know how that happened. I thought these were
going to last the entire time,
but
hey, that's fine then.
We might just have a shorter episode.
Maybe we won't. I don't know.
Speaking of something,
Airbnb tightens their anti-party rules for rentals as New Year's Eve approaches.
I didn't know they had anti-party rules.
I literally had no idea.
I assume the reason that you get an Airbnb is either you
don't want to pay for a hotel
because hotels are a scam,
or
you want to party.
Who's
going to an Airbnb besides
those people?
So, Airbnb
banned house parties in 2019
following... Oh, apparently... Jesus oh, there was apparently, Jesus Christ,
there was a shooting there, um, have you banned house parties? Like, I know people that have
rented Airbnbs for the sole purpose of a house party, what do you mean you've banned them?
How do you determine if someone is having a house party?
Like, the whole idea of the Airbnb is that the owner of the house is not in the house.
So as long as the house is cleaned up by the time you leave and, like, there's no damage, anything like that,
how would you know there's a house party? Like, obviously, I guess if you have a house party and then you just don't clean,
but then you also just get a bad
rating on your Airbnb account,
then you just won't be able to rent places.
But like, how would you know?
I think there's
just a lot of people who have house parties
and then just don't clean up
or they have a house party so big
that the police end up getting
caught. I guess in that case,
then I guess it'd be pretty easy to work out.
But besides that, I'm trying to work out how you'd find out.
I really can't think of a way that without the renter being an absolute moron,
that you'd actually be able to find that out.
But granted, if you're throwing a house party,
you probably are a bit of a moron.
Speaking as someone who has thrown a house party.
Speaking from absolute experience there,
you've got to be pretty dumb.
Especially if you're the sort of person who throws a house party,
and then you don't try to, like, manage the party.
Just like, oh, people come here and get drunk, and potentially do substances of potentially not illicit,
not illicit, potentially illicit kind. you gotta be like, you gotta be at
least a fraction, fraction bit dumb to just not go to someone else's party, because if you go to
someone else's party, then you could just be the one of those people that don't clean up anything
and just leave, like most people that go to a house party, that's the other problem with throwing
a house party, most people are gone by the time the clean up happens
and then it's just like, well, I have to
clean up after every single person
that was here and this seems
like a lot of work that I really
really don't want to
do.
Oh god.
I'm always tired in the afternoon but I'm always tired in the afternoon,
but I'm far less tired than I have been up until
recently.
So I once again started reading
before I go to bed. I used to
read a lot before I go to bed, like,
spending time reading some light novels, reading through volume
8 of Splice and Wolf right now.
But when I got into Final Fantasy I just stopped
I just played Final Fantasy until I went to bed
plus there's been a lot of days when I just watch
anime until I go to bed
and my sleep's been an absolute fucking mess
because of that and
I've woken up feeling
not feeling
refreshed at all so I've wanted
to try to change that.
I know the weather changing and it getting hotter and stuff
is going to affect it as well.
So I don't want it to get worse than it needs to.
So going back to what I was doing before,
I've been doing that for maybe a week or so now
and it has been giving me a much better sleep.
So I'm going to keep that up.
And hopefully, hopefully that means that I actually can make better content
because when I'm recording that I'm not like fighting against falling asleep.
There's been some days recently where it got so bad where I'm like,
I'm going to take a nap in the middle of the day.
I'm going to go to sleep for like 15, 20 minutes between two videos.
And just, just... I love thinking about sleep. I want to go to sleep for like 15, 20 minutes between two videos. And just...
Just...
I'm not thinking of sleep.
I'm wanting to sleep.
Just take the sleep.
And when I do that, I usually feel far more refreshed than I did from the sleep that I had overnight.
Which sort of explains how great the sleep I've been getting actually is.
One of the days, I actually had this guy here
just like climb up onto the bed
and literally sit on my chest as I was sleeping.
He's like, oh, what are you doing?
Stop that.
Literally sit on my chest as I was sleeping.
And you know what?
It sounds uncomfortable,
but, ow, I'm a fucking moron, uh, I got my thumb stuck in this, it sounds uncomfortable,
but surprisingly, it actually wasn't that bad, I guess if it was really hot that day,
it'd be a little bit different, but I think that day it was probably in, like, the early
different but i think that day it was probably in like the early 20s or so so like fairly cool day and uh it's nice if you ever feel tired during the day just take a nap because sometimes like
my problem if i didn't take the nap is i would have been i think i was planning out videos or
something one of those days i would have spent more time like struggling to focus while planning the video
than it would have taken to just take the nap.
So taking the nap ended up actually like it counterintuitively
wasting time taking the nap actually ultimately saved me more time
than it otherwise, than actually working more would have.
If that makes sense.
It hopefully did, but I cannot guarantee it.
I would love to say it's time for the obligatory Final Fantasy XIV section,
but I actually didn't play much last week. I played maybe, maybe two or so hours last week,
so usually I would play, like, on Thursdayursday maybe even on friday and then on the
weekend so i didn't play on thursday because i was busy getting stuff ready before i went to my
parents place for christmas um friday i actually went to my parents place for christmas and then
obviously i didn't play it while i was there so i got home on sunday and I felt great for a little bit, but after about an hour or so, I was fucking exhausted.
And I was like, I can't keep playing right now.
I'm loving this.
This is great.
I think I'd done maybe one dungeon and maybe like three Beast Tribe quests
and I was like struggling to stay awake.
So I'm like i'm i'm
just gonna go watch some anime chill don't have to like use my brain at all i did that and then
basically i was good to go um so sadly didn't get to play much last week i did get like a level
in my black mage but that's about it. I'm going to play some more, probably tonight, actually,
and more definitely on the weekend.
Maybe some on Friday as well, but maybe not on Friday
because I'm going golfing with my mates as well.
So we'll see how much time I have for work on that day,
and then I'll work it out as I go.
But yes, you can expect your obligatory Final Fantasy XIV section
come next week. go. But yes, you can expect your obligatory Final Fantasy XIV section come
next week.
I won't be talking about
the new
Endwalker raid because
I haven't played it because I
am not doing Endwalker yet because I'm in
Heavensward. No, sorry, I'm not
even in Heavensward. I'm in
still in a Realm Reborn. I'm
in Realm Reborn patch content,
like, that's how early in the game I still am, so, like, that's not a problem, but, um, sadly,
that did mean that I missed something that happened in, in, uh, it happened, I did miss
something that happened in Endwalker, That being the Endwalker grapes.
So, it's honestly great.
In one of the towns in Endwalker, there were these grapes.
Now, these are questionably grapes.
I would call them more crystals.
Crystals with a grape skin on them um that look really bad but also like really endearingly bad so they made them really low poly count because you know you're not gonna look at
the grapes that often you don't want to be like wasting poly count just on these random ass grapes
they ended up patching them and people argue the new grapes look worse and
you know what i feel like they do they made them like more round but like when they were literally
just a fucking what is it five whatever it's like i'm just gonna call it crystal they like when it
was literally just a crystal like like, it looked bad,
but you can laugh at how bad they look now.
Now they just look bad.
Now it's just like, here is a very low poly count grape.
Because it's beautifully low poly grapes, true.
Sadly, I'm never going to get to experience the original grapes
in their original glory.
I'm never going to get to experience the original grapes in their original glory.
But at least we have records of them taking place.
So I can always go back and look at the beauty that was the grapes.
I do love that people have been comparing the grapes to Heidlin,
which is actually great.
Because fucking hell, it really really really looks like the crystal.
Doesn't it?
I believe the.
The.
English.
FF14 Twitter.
Tweeted about it.
Grape.
Twitter. I recall seeing...
Yeah, here we go.
So they released 6.01.
We will miss you, Grapes.
You were truly remarkable.
But then they also forgot to fix the grapes in Wineport.
I love it.
I genuinely love it.
But it's better than the...
This is sort of the opposite problem that FFXIV 1.0 had.
Where it had an incredibly high poly plant.
So, do we have a picture of the flower pot?
Um.
So, here we go.
Uh, the original- Okay, here we go.
So, the original flower pot in question, second from the left, in front of the roost.
So, this one right here.
Blender says 436 triangular polygons.
A bit off the thousand claimed.
That larger flower bed behind it has
1245, though.
If anything, they added more
colour variety in Rom Reborn.
That's
explaining why it's not a problem.
Where is the explanation of it
she was distracted from 1.0 not 1.1
ah okay so they actually changed it in
one of the updates to 1.0
anyway there was this flower pot in 1.0
that had this ridiculous poly count
and basically looking at the flower pot That had this ridiculous poly count. Uh.
And basically. Looking at the flower pot.
Just killed your frame rate.
Because.
Let's just.
Let's just have.
Let's just have.
This stupidly high.
High poly count flower pot.
Just sitting.
I think it's in Gridania it was.
Yeah, that's Gridania.
They've got the twin adder flag behind it.
So sitting in Gridania.
Yeah, and that's the other Gridania stained glass as well.
Like it just showed like how how arbitrary some of the weird design choices were in 1.0
it's like yeah this this isn't something you like this is clearly a great model
but when it comes to like a model you'd use in a video game you want to sort of minimize the
poly count while keeping it as detailed as it needs to be for the sake of a
game for example you could make an incredibly high poly count um toothbrush for example where you
individually model every single like what are they called like the the the things on the toothbrush
the strands of plastic i guess you'd call them,
you could individually model every single one.
But that doesn't make any sense.
That's just a waste of...
It's just an absolute waste of polycount
because no one's going to examine it that closely.
What you usually want to do is just make it a rectangle.
You want to make it a thingy,
a rectangular 3D shape, whatever that's called. I haven't been to make it a thingy. A rectangular 3D shape.
Whatever that's called.
I haven't been to school in a long time.
And then just give it a texture.
That makes it look as it should.
And that's usually going to be good enough.
And good enough texture work.
Can hide the fact that it isn't a.
Perfect 3D model.
Obviously it can't hide it perfectly.
And an actual good 3D model is better,
but sometimes it just...
Sometimes it really just doesn't matter.
Sometimes it's just a better idea to not worry about it.
And in the case of the plant pot,
well, you just shouldn't matter.
You shouldn't worry about it.
Things you should worry about, though,
is when Twitch
clearly has no idea how to run
their platform. So,
you guys should probably know
that Amazon is the owner of
Twitch.
Amazon-owned Twitch
bans Amazon account after breast
revealed on air. So,
obviously, Twitch has their, like,
their very, very very very loose
anti pornography
anti pornography
rules where you can
Really push them, but don't show a nipple definitely show nipple
So the official Spanish language prime video channel was suspended from Twitch on Sunday with no public reason given.
However, it followed a segment on the talk show
Esto es un
late
where the incident took place.
Twitch has strict rules around
partial or full nudity.
It is not a strict
rules around partial nudity.
It definitely is no strict rules around partial nudity. It definitely is no strict rules around partial nudity.
As long as there's a hot tub, partial nudity is okay.
For those who present as women, we ask that you cover your...
That's just from their guidelines.
So they were doing stuff and someone said,
We're about to be banned, come on
they're gonna ban us
the stream then cut to a title card for a moment
but then returned to the live feed
for a split second before
Miss Alvarez's breast
vanished from view, the Twitch stream
quickly ended but within a few hours
the channel was banned from Twitch
from what I know
there's not been.
Any.
Any reply.
On whether the account is getting unbanned.
I feel like.
That's a pretty easy situation.
For Amazon to solve.
They're just like.
No.
Don't touch the Amazon accounts.
It doesn't matter.
If they accidentally show a boobie.
It's fine because
we literally own you.
We literally own you.
Now stop banning our fucking
accounts.
Honestly, I love it. It's great
how just, how Twitch
doesn't even know what they're doing
with literally the owner of their platform
like nope ban but like hot tub meta hot tub meta is a-okay give a hot tub fuck you can get almost
all your all your clothes off just make sure you keep make sure you keep a little bit on. I do wonder how far you could push the idea of the hot tub meta.
Like, how little clothing can you wear?
Like, obviously you have to wear a bikini,
but could you wear a small bikini?
Could you wear a micro bikini?
At what point does it become a problem for Twitch?
I don't think they know.
And I think they're just waiting for someone to push it.
They're just waiting for someone to push it
and they'll work out the rules at that point.
But only the rules for that one situation.
They'll change the rules the next time it happens.
Um, yes.
What else do we have, let's talk about video games, we, actually, we're not talking about video games, we're talking about video game hardware, um, so, I've been mentioning I've been tempted to buy
a new GPU, the reason why I haven't bought one is because GPUs are stupidly expensive.
And I don't want to pay for it.
So, there is a new generation coming.
Now, some people have said, oh, it's like not very exciting.
Oh, blah, blah, blah.
No one can buy the current generation.
Yeah, that's true.
I fully agree.
So both Nvidia and also AMD have new generations coming.
So the 4000 and the 7000 series, respectively.
They're going to be fast, obviously.
And because I got a card from last generation,
that means my card's going to be two generations out of date. Now, this is a big enough gap, and this is what I've been saying I've been waiting for
for buying my new card. I've been wanting a two-generation gap so that when I buy the card,
even though it's going to be expensive as fuck, it's still going to be a big enough jump where I can justify it.
I feel like my current GPU,
because I didn't get a great GPU to begin with.
I got like a lower mid-range card.
It's been slacking a lot,
or slacking, lacking, whatever you want to say.
It's been not at the level that I want it to be at.
Especially in FFXIV14 i want to crank
that game more i want to be able to run some shaders and all that fun stuff and outside of
that game like i just want to have a better gpu because it's going to give me it's going to give
me the ability to crank my games more i'm one of those people who do like to crank my games even
though i've said that i don't really think that we need games to look better.
I think if I can get my, not just cranking my games, also getting a consistent 165 FPS.
If I can get that in FFXIV, I'll be very happy.
That's pretty much all I want.
If I can crank the settings and then, because the game looks like a PS3 game.
If I can crank the settings and get 165, I will be happy. So I'll probably end up getting like a 7700 or maybe a 7600,
something like that, depending on, uh, depending on what the prices look like at retail. I don't give a shit about MSRP. Look at, at retail and what their performance is actually like.
Um, I'm not gonna, I could buy an Nvidia car,
but I just don't care. Especially because I'm considering trying out Wayland at some point. I
just, no, it's not happening. AMD is just the only thing I'm going to be using on Linux for
probably the foreseeable future. So when these actually do drop, I hope that we end up getting a really big jump.
And even though they're going to be hard as hell to buy, I'm probably going to buy one.
My assumption is the 6600 is probably going to be at the $800-ish mark in Australia,
which is fucking expensive.
I remember when
600 class cards were
what?
600 or 60 class, depending
on what generation it was
and what company it was from, were in the
range of like
$400, $300
even. So currently
the $6,600 is $ 700 at the minimum and then the 6600
xt where is the gpu section the graphics card section i believe that sits at 800 yeah 800
uh so that's his 800 then the 6700... Why do I keep scrolling too far?
6700's a thousand?
I guess there's no 6700, it's the XT.
So 1150.
I'm not paying that for a GPU.
That's not going to happen.
I'll probably end up getting the 6600,
or if they end up releasing...
Sorry, 7600 or 7600 XT,
depending on whether they end up releasing one.
But it will all come down to the benchmarks.
If the benchmarks do not show that it is a big enough gap, then I just will not care.
Actually, how big is the gap right now?
So 6600...
Let's go non-XT variant.
6600 benchmark.
Show me...
Okay, cool. It is showing
modern 6600, not an older
card called a 6600.
6600
GPU benchmark.
Give me a good company. I don't care about your stupid things. Give me a good company.
I don't care about your stupid things.
Give me the Ars Technica one.
Wait, did I show this on a podcast once?
I don't usually read
Ars Technica.
329
MSRP in the US. Jesus
Christ.
Okay, now this doesn't show...
I'm going to look at the Guru 3D one,
because Guru 3D usually shows a much bigger range of cards.
So, Guru 3D...
Maybe I showed this...
Maybe I just read this at some point.
Maybe I didn't show it on the podcast.
Let's go with, I guess, Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
So my card right now
is
somewhere around
this range, I think.
I can't remember exactly what card I have.
I think it's like a 570
actually
I don't remember what card I have
I literally have no idea what card I have
somewhere around this range though
so 20 FPS
that's a big jump
but like
not enough to really justify it
if it's then let's just say it goes up to 90
i think having like a double performance from where it was before i think that's justifiable
i think i can justify the purchase especially because i can still sell the gpu and it's still
probably going to be worth uh quite a bit Obviously not as much as it is now when the new generation isn't out,
but still quite a bit.
You still won't be able to buy cards.
Cause I really doubt that when these cards come out,
which is probably going to be sometime in 2022,
you're going to be able to buy cards yet.
Like that'll be for sale,
but like,
that's about as far as it's gonna go.
And as I said, I can get why people aren't excited.
Like, you can't just easily
go out of your way, and the prices are
super hiked up, but
I can't
help being excited about really cool uh really cool new hardware
even if even if it is hard hardly justifiably expensive um i guess is a way to put it
but um speaking of gaming actually so... Oi, there we go.
Recently over on ProtonDB, we actually hit a new milestone.
So, 80% of the top 100 games on Steam are now supported.
So, that only means that... So, that means that only...
Is it anything that is bronze?
Wait, this is
a really weird way to lay it out.
I think it's anything that's lower than
silver isn't counted
as working well.
But that's a lot
of games.
And if you enable provisional, it doesn't change that much.
That is a lot of games. And if you enable provisional, it doesn't change that much. That is a lot of games.
I saw someone comment on one of my videos
recently saying,
stop talking about
Linux gaming. Linux gaming
only supports a fraction
of what's supported on Windows.
And yes, technically,
79% is a fraction.
That is 79 over 100. You are objectively correct that is a fraction. That is 79 over 100.
You are objectively correct that is a fraction.
That's not what they meant.
What they actually meant is that a small portion of games work.
And that's just not true.
Like, that's just not true nowadays.
Sure, there's a lot of games that don't work.
Absolutely.
And a lot of those games are because of anti-cheat.
But to say that there's a lot of games
that, or to ignore
the fact that a lot of games do work
is just ignoring people
actually playing
on Linux. Like, I only play,
like, when I'm not playing on my console, I
only play games on Linux. And the
only thing I'm playing on my console
are games that are only
available on the console, I can play everything I want to play on PC. Yes, you have to decide.
Maybe I don't want to play a certain game because that game is not going to be supported,
but most other games, most other games are. So there's plenty of games to play. I'm sure you'll find at least one thing
that, uh, one thing that suits your fancy.
Even if
maybe you can't play the latest
and greatest triple-A
multiplayer shooter game.
I, uh,
I used to be really,
really big into, uh,
really, really into
multiplayer shooters.
And I just, I can't touch them anymore.
I really can't.
I was never great at them.
My problem is I get really competitive.
Like the second I feel like I'm getting better at the game,
I got way too competitive at them and it just stopped being fun.
Like I would play games like Black Ops 2 for hours upon hours,
even though I was not having fun,
because I just felt like I
had to get better, and I just don't feel like
the relationship I have
with multiplayer
shooters is a healthy one.
Obviously, I mean competitive shooters,
not cooperative games like Borderlands.
Borderlands is a very different situation.
Um... Same reason why I don't usually play many multiplayer competitive games anyway.
Like, I don't care about PvP in an MMO,
or in Dark Souls for that matter.
Get fucking PvP out of my Dark Souls.
I really don't care about it.
I play the games offline,
so I don't have any chance whatsoever of being invaded,
because I just don't like the mechanic.
If you want to play with it, that's fine, but
I'm just not going to deal with it.
I just
get too competitive when I play these games,
and I play games
for fun. I play games for fun,
so I'm going to eliminate those things
that
sort of take the fun away
from the game for me.
I'm happy to get competitive against myself.
Like if I'm playing a game like Hades or Dead Cells,
I want to get better at that game
because I want to get better than myself.
I'm not trying to get better than someone on a leaderboard
or someone else on the other team.
I'm just trying to get better at the game.
And I think that's a...
I find that to be a better way to play
the game. And I certainly have a lot more fun when I am doing it like that as well. But everyone is
everyone. It do be how it do be and play games how you like to play. I'm not going to tell you to
play games the way that I play them because I totally get why some people just don't want to do that and why some people just want to play, want to play certain games and just, you know, they actually do enjoy competitive
shooters and that's cool. And it's clearly a market for them. And there's a lot of people
in that market. I'm just not in that market. I'm happy to sit here and play, uh, play, play my, my JRPGs and, uh, enjoy, enjoy all of that fun stuff.
Speaking of that, uh, one of the guys in my Discord, uh, Donald, who's been on the podcast
before, he mentioned he started playing, uh, Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch, which is a
fucking fantastic game, and if you have not played Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch, I really,
really suggest you go and do so. Um, it is a great JRPG, it is, the animation is a, it's a Ghibli
style animation, uh, the combat system, I guess it's a sort of, it's a real, it's a real-time
combat system with, like, a turn-based interface.
And it's sort of got Pokemon-y elements to it as well.
You've got these... I guess they were spirits, if I remember correctly.
And you capture them and use them to battle.
It's a really good game.
It's a very long game.
I think it took me 95 hours to finish or something.
Obviously, I was doing side content. And I wasn't trying to rush through the game,
but like getting through the main story took me about 95 hours and it was 95 good hours, even though
a lot of those hours were- a lot of those early hours were the tutorial.
I think the tutorial was like 20 hours long or something like that,
because why wouldn't it be? Um, I haven't played, uh,
Revenant Kingdom yet. Revenant Kingdom is sitting on my shelf, and I really should go and play it,
because it looks like a really, really, really good game, uh, because, you know, first game was
really good as well, and it just looks like more of the first game which i'm honestly happy with like you don't need to completely change your game if you've got a uh
a good formula and it's only the second game um but i will play it at some point maybe i'll uh i
don't know i don't know if i want to stream it because it'd be a very very very very very very
very very very long very long stream series.
But also a lot of games that are like very story focused.
I don't know about streaming them.
I don't know.
I'll decide as I go.
I have so many other games I want to stream.
Once I finish the latest Kingdom Hearts game I've been playing,
that being Rechained Memories, as in the second game,
of like the nine games
or whatever it is in the franchise at this point,
I'm probably going to play Hollow Knight.
That's my current plan for the gaming channel.
Hollow Knight and then...
I don't know.
I don't know.
Maybe after I finish Bloodborne,
I'll go finish the Spyro trilogy.
I've got one more game to play, that being the third game.
The first two games, really good.
I've really, really enjoyed them.
And if the third game is also good, I will enjoy that as well.
I've never actually played the third game.
The second game was the only one I'd actually played,
but I'd never actually finished it.
So that was a good experience to be able to do that.
I should also play Nier Automata.
That's also on my show.
And it's been there for a long time.
I've also got Nioh up there as well.
I've got so many games up here that, like, are really good games.
Oh, I've got Final Fantasy XV as well.
Like, here's the problem with being into JRPGs, right?
Like, JRPGs are great, and you have a lot of great experiences.
But they're a lot of time.
Like, this is a big fucking time commitment.
If you're into, like, you know, small indie games that, like, take a couple of hours. Like, this is a big fucking time commitment. If you're into, like, you know, small indie
games that, like, take a couple of hours to finish,
you can play a lot of those games.
But if you like JRPGs,
just, like, well,
they're good
games, but, like, holy
shit, you gotta, like, you gotta be committed.
I also want to get a copy of
Persona 5 Royal as well,
because I never finished the base game.
So I might as well just go play Royal
rather than going back and playing through the entirety of the first one as well.
But getting a copy of Royal is slightly difficult.
I've noticed there's not many places selling them.
And if they are selling them, oh, is it in stock now?
Or is it in stock?
Or is it, okay, it's in stock now.
Okay, cool.
Last time I was looking for a copy of Royal,
it was not in stock and I couldn't buy it.
But it is here now.
Like, it wasn't in stock
and they straight up weren't even listing it.
But maybe I should just go and buy it.
So it's just more games sitting on my shelf that I don't have time to play. This is the eternal struggle. There are
so many games I want to play, but there's going to. Uh, yeah.
Wait, what is this?
Little Friends... Dogs and Cats. Is this like
Nintendogs? Is this
Nintendogs, but on the Switch?
Is it? Yes.
That is exactly what it is. This is Nintendogs,
but on the Switch.
Shit. I never actually had a copy of Nintendogs, but on the Switch. Shit.
I never actually had a copy of Nintendogs, actually.
I think I played it a few years later as a...
What's the word?
As a...
On my Action Replay, yes.
But I never actually had my own copy
of it.
Oh, X and X-2.
I've played through
Final Fantasy X. I've never played through X-2.
I got to the first cut
scene in X-2, and then I
stopped playing.
Maybe I should go back and actually finish
X-2 and give it, like, a proper shake.
Maybe I'll do that at some point,
but at least at this stage,
I have no plans to do so.
But as I mentioned before,
there's a lot of JRPGs in here I do want to play.
There's so many games on the Switch that I want to play.
Do I just buy a Switch and then just burn my money
just buying games that I don't have time to play?
Maybe I do, maybe I don't.
I'll decide it when we get there.
And now we are in the last section of the podcast.
I mentioned OBS earlier and completely forgot
about the other OBS topic
I actually had here. So
OBS is finally getting
a, I guess
it's an official flatpack. So OBS
has had a flatpack for quite a while. Right
now, you can go and install the
OBS flatpack. The problem
though is the way the build was being done
is they were basically like
manually making the build and it wasn't a
great experience
So obviously from the user perspective doesn't really matter but from the developer perspective wasn't great
So they plan to be making the OBS Flatpak actually official
so what this means is
Finally there's going to be an official build of OBS
on Linux that
isn't on Ubuntu. So
what I mean by official
is there are some features in OBS
which I
would love to make use of.
So things like
wait is this
oh my
even gaming on Linux is fucking reporting this article,
shut the fuck up, stop reporting on this stupid news, this is not news, um, okay,
okay, let, I'll get to this in just a moment, it's not news because it's not true, um,
a moment.
It's not news because it's not true.
So,
Obis is going to have this flat pack.
The flat pack is going to, in the official version of Ubuntu, and obviously the
Windows version, it lets you do things like
integrate Twitch directly into it.
Integrate some sections of
YouTube into it.
There's things in there that require
the API keys of the OBS developers that aren't there
in the other versions. Obviously, most of the features are there, but those API key integrations
are not available just because of the way that they are handling them. So I'm really excited for
that to be available. Also, I'm really excited to not have to worry about compiling OBS
from the AUR. Because that's
the way I'm doing it right now. Because
when I use OBS,
I want to have access
to things like the
browser plugin. Because
the fucking version in
the Arch repos is still
broken, and the Arch developers
refuse to fix it. Like I'm usually
not this angry about volunteers not getting something working but they have been given a
patch to fix it and they refuse to fix it because it would mean they'd need an extra package in the
repos. Basically OBS requires a specific version of CEF
minimal and this version usually lags behind or maybe in some cases in front
of the version in the Arch repos. So it needs to line up exactly. Now most
packages get around this by just packaging CEF minimal in the package
itself. OBS doesn't, uh, doesn't contain a right, or doesn't, um, what's the word,
ship the dependency with it, um, so it sort of has to pull from the system.
Most, most of the time, not a big deal. If you can get that extra version, it's fine,
uh, but they don't want to put an official, they don't want to add this version into the OBS repos,
so it's just never going to be fixed. So you have to
get it from the AUR and do it like that basically. I've been using the
Titan 652 version and it's great but if I can get rid of that and
then just go with the Flatpak version I'm going to be doing so. Now what I was
annoyed about here is that Gaming on Linux, Liam Dorr, is fucking spreading this information around.
This absolute fucking fake title that made its way around Reddit as well.
So, Red Hat did donate $10,000 to OBS, right?
That did happen.
And OBS
is going to be making the Flatpak
the official version. These
are not related
stories. These have
nothing to do with
each other at all.
The developer, like some of the developers
of OBS have come out and said
stop saying that these
are related. The flat pack has
been a work in progress for about a year now. And like, it has nothing. It has absolutely nothing
to do with the fact the red hat just donated money. I actually didn't read this story. I just
read the headline and I'm annoyed that Liamr, who I feel like usually has some
level of credibility, is spreading this around
as well. So, little
bit of good news to start Tuesday.
The excellent livestream, blah blah blah, got a good donation
from BreadHat. BreadHat certainly aren't the first
big company to help OBS development.
Software, blah blah blah, nice to see big
Linux and open source companies.
Yep. In other
OBS- news. Right.
So you've put these two stories together.
As if they are the same one.
But you are well aware yourself.
That these stories aren't related.
But you're also aware.
That by titling it like this.
You know that you're going to be pissing people off.
Because there are some people.
That have like this allergic reaction to Red Hat.
And anything Red hat touches must be
bad i honestly expected liam door to handle this better i'm like it makes sense if redditors do
this like redditors are going to be redditors but like come on put like a line in here or something like that saying these stories are not
related. That's very important.
Let's see if other people in the comments here
In addition
to Rodney, allow me to clarify another point
there is no connection between Red Hat's donation
and the Flatpak work.
Publishing OBS to Flathub was an effort
led entirely by the community and
contributors have been working on it for many months now. Right, yeah, that's fair.
I'm just annoyed that this story keeps getting shared around
as if it's a real thing that's happened.
It isn't.
It's not a real thing at all.
So stop sharing it around,
and then we can stop having more misinformation out there.
So OBS has actually been doing a lot of really cool stuff recently.
So besides that one,
I got an email, because I donated to the OBS project a while back,
I got an email mentioning that the OBS project is going to be working on the OBS WebSocket project.
So OBS WebSocket is, it's something that if you don't need, then it's not really useful.
But if you do need, man, OBS WebS socket is an absolute fucking game changer so what this
basically does is gives obs web socket functionality so basically it allows you to connect to obs
over a web socket um so you can make things like a web interface for obs that's cool but not really
that useful i guess you control obs from like a remote system if you really want to.
What's really cool though, is it allows you to control OBS outside of the OBS application.
Allowing things like the OBS CLI tool.
So OBS CLI is basically what it sounds like.
It lets you control OBS from your terminal. Why this is useful is because then
you can go and take this and then map it to something like the program that lets a stream
deck work on Linux. So stream deck Linux, stream deck UI. So you can combine the OBS WebSocket
to give you WebSocket functionality.
You can combine that with the OBS CLI
to actually control the WebSocket
and then map this to buttons on your Stream Deck
and then have the Stream Deck working on Linux.
These are such really, these are such great features, and I'm so,
so happy that the OBS project is actually supporting it, because the plugin itself was
already good, but the fact that they are taking them under their wing and working on the project
themselves is really, really great. I believe in the official version of OBS this has actually been merged
in as well, so the WebSoccer
functionality is actually available
there, and I'm so excited
to actually be able to try that out, and
I've been meaning to try it out for quite a while, but
because it's going to be made an official part of OBS
soon anyway, I'll just wait until
that's actually happened.
It's awesome. I love what's
been happening with OBS.
And I really hope that going forward,
we keep getting more really, really cool features like this
that really improve the usability of OBS on Linux.
Because even though it's probably the best,
no, it's not probably,
it objectively is the best open source video recording software available.
There are places where, yeah, you can improve it.
And I've run into some of those things.
Like sometimes OBS has trouble loading my cameras and things of that nature.
So there are places where it can improve.
But the official version not being limited to just Ubuntu because it was a PPA
and having OBS WebSocket built in is going to be great.
I know the official version or the official,
the package in the Arch repos is going to still be bad
because the Arch devs don't want to fix it
but I can also just say,
fuck you to the Arch devs and use the flat pack anyway.
And that's basically what I'm going to do.
And that's what I recommend everyone else to do.
Just don't install OBS from the main repos
because it's going to be a worse experience.
Obviously, if you don't need those features,
then hey, go ahead, go and do that.
You'll be good to go, I guess.
But I'm sure most people, especially if you're a
streamer, are going to want things like
the embedded browser.
I didn't
include a link for this for some reason.
But
LG has a very
strange
form factor monitor.
16x
18.
16x 18. 16 by
18.
So, it's
like 16 by 9,
but then you take another one of the
16 by 9s and then
put it on top.
So it's effectively a square?
It's pretty
square.
I guess it's probably, maybe it's just a square? It's pretty square.
Maybe it's just the angle here, but it looks more rectangular.
Anyway, the point I'm getting at here is this is a very strange form factor.
I don't know how I would enjoy it.
I think I'd prefer something ultra-wide. I prefer
more horizontal space
rather than having to move my
head up further.
I guess it depends on the sort of work
you're doing and the way you like
to work. If you're the sort of
person who uses
multi-monitors anyway, and you're used
to having to turn your head,
I feel like an ultra-wide would probably
be better, or maybe a super
ultra-wide if you want to go absolutely ridiculous.
If you don't know what that is.
Super ultra-wide.
It's
ultra-wide, but it's gone super saiyan.
Here it is.
Super ultra wide.
Can I see the picture?
Or are you going to bother me with cloud flare?
Show me the picture.
Show me the picture.
Picture, picture, picture.
Here we go.
She's fucking stupid.
Like this thing's actually... actually Super ultra wide is actually stupid
I think this is too big
It's basically a triple monitor setup in a single monitor
I don't remember what the aspect ratio
32 by 9
So ultra wide is 21 by 9
Super ultra wide is
32 by 9
So basically
Oh sorry I said 3. It's actually 2.
Oh, maybe it's not that bad then.
I run double monitors.
Maybe you'd be fine.
Is it curved super ultra wide?
I think it is.
Okay, that's even funnier.
That's the way that I prefer to work.
But I guess if desk real estate is more valuable to you,
maybe having it go vertically makes more sense.
Like, I'd want to actually try one before I can say
if it's actually a good experience or not.
You need to have a system that can tile.
If you aren't running a system that can tile, it's just unusable.
But most modern operating systems now and desktop environments
do let you tile.
Because otherwise, manually dealing with floating windows like this just would not be a good experience.
But on a tiling window manager like I have, I think if you had the spiral layout, it probably would work pretty well, I would say.
So it gives you the same screen real estate as 220... So this one specifically,
221.5 inch displays.
Oh, so this is basically 221.5 inch displays
glued on top of each other.
That's not a lot of horizontal real estate though i feel like it needs to be bigger horizontally
maybe like a 36 inch variant would be better maybe a 36 or a 40 inch variant because then
you get basically the screen real estate of a 24 or 27 inch i If my maths is remotely correct.
Hmm.
I don't know.
I think it's cool.
I think it's cool.
And there are absolutely use cases where it might make sense.
Like this for example.
Having a video editing use case. where you have your video editing timeline
and then above it, not just like a little preview, you have a full preview.
Like that, I think, is actually great.
It'd probably be horrible for gaming.
It would, yeah, it probably would be pretty bad for gaming.
Like you'd have, because there's no, and I doubt there'd be any patches that
actually take advantage of this.
One thing it'd be great for,
actually, I take back what I said.
It would be great for
Nintendo DS emulation.
You buy this
$3,000 monitor, or however much
this thing costs. I don't see.
I would have to guess it's at least
$2,000. and then you buy it just
to do Nintendo DS emulation, you know, you know, I would do it, I would do it, it's not the worst
idea I've ever had, it's certainly not the best idea I've ever had, but there are worse ones out there as well. I don't know. I'm happy with my setup right
now with my
curved 27
inch gaming monitor
that I can lift up
and down. I don't know why I'm lifting because you can't see it.
I can lift
it up and down. I can change the
angle of it. I've never had a monitor this
expensive and it's nice to have
like
swivel and tilt. nice to have like, like
swivel and tilt and
does it have tilt?
No, it doesn't have tilt. It has
swivel. It has swivel and height
adjustment, and that's all I need. If I need tilt,
I'll just get a monitor arm. Actually, that's one
thing I want to do at the new place. I didn't mention this earlier,
but I want to get monitor arms
just so I can clean up my desk more. So,
monitors on arms, camera on an arm up my desk more so monitors on arms
camera on an arm, lights on arms
everything on fucking arms
desk is just a big desk Matt
and that's how it do be
that's basically
how it do be
I don't know what I'd do with the extra desk space
but certainly more than I'm doing
with the desk space right now
you can see a bit of my desk with the new camera angle. This is basically the clean part. You can only, it looks
clean, but like if I move stuff slightly out of like from out of frame, there's like a bunch of
shit here. Uh, it just makes the desk look clean. It wasn't my intention when I had that angle there,
but like, I think it kind of works. Um, and it makes it look, it makes it look like I know what I'm doing more than I do.
You can sort of trick people into thinking you have a clean setup.
If you are tricky with the way you handle your camera angles.
I am not.
I am just like winging it and just making it work.
But I'm making it work somehow.
And that's basically how it is.
I think we've basically gone through everything I wanted to say.
Oh, actually, one other just brief topic.
It's not much of a topic.
I came back from my Christmas weekend.
And I went onto my computer.
I was like, oh yeah, let's just see what's happening.
And I realized I was being followed by someone.
And I don't know why I'm being followed by that someone.
So like, Luke Lafreniere just followed me on Twitter.
I'm like, okay.
Hi, Luke.
How's it going?
Like, I've been a fan of LTT.
When did I start watching LTT?
I actually don't know.
Like, I was well into watching LTT when the whole room water calling challenge happened.
Like, that was seven years ago.
I was already watching LTT for a long time by that point.
I don't know when I started.
It had to have been maybe like
two or three years before that
I genuinely couldn't
tell you
but seeing
Luke follow me on Twitter
it did
make me freak out for a little bit
I was like oh
I'm actually like a content
creator now, aren't I? Like someone, someone that I've been a big fan of for like a lot of my life,
like nearly half my life is just no, firstly knows who I am and knows who I am enough
who I am and knows who I am enough to want to follow me on Twitter. And that's just cool.
I think that's just really, really, really cool. This isn't me like gloating about it saying,
oh, I'm such a great, great YouTuber. Look, Luke Lafreniere follows me.
Like that's not what I'm doing here.'m just really really surprised that Luke knows that my content exists the reason why I think he did follow me is because he seems to have followed
a couple of the um a couple of the Linux channels that made some uh reply videos so Jason Evangelo
uh Gardner Bryant I believe that Nick from the Linux experiment is in here as well.
Linux experiment.
Is he Nick?
What does he go by?
No, that's Nick Lyatt.
Maybe he doesn't follow Nick, actually.
Or maybe he's somewhere earlier on the list.
I don't know.
He's somewhere on this list.
Nick.
Does he not follow Nick?
Maybe he doesn't follow Nick.
Okay. Apparently it's just
me, Jason Evangelo
and Mr. Gardner Bryant.
Also Dankpods. Dankpods is cool.
Go follow Dankpods.
I guess I'm not following Dankpods.
Go sub to Dankpods if you're not already subbed to Dank Pods.
But that's basically all I have to say, really.
I don't think there's any other topics on here I want to mention.
I thought some of these topics were longer than they actually were,
but I guess not.
Oh, here you go. Here's one last thing I guess we can go to before the podcast ends. Who needs to give your computer better cooling when
you can just put it on top of a fan? Now, I would be lying if I said that I have not done basically the same thing. Putting like a fan near my desktop,
letting that cool it down for me.
If I said that I had not done that,
that would be a bit of a lie.
Also putting my computer right near my air conditioner,
things like that.
It's a great plan if you don't want to buy better cooling.
But hey, at the end of the day,
you probably should just get better cooling.
Even if it's just, like, my current system, I haven't got, like, great cooling in it.
But there's enough fans where I can brute force the cooling.
I'm not using super incredible parts that I need crazy water cooling to deal with.
I can just stick some fans in here and we're good to go.
But, you know, on a laptop, you can't really do that. So, unless you want to liquid metal your
laptop, which is a good way to kill it, this is a good plan. Also, it basically acts as a desk.
So, judging by this person, it seems like they don't have a desk. Maybe they play the game with,
like, a controller or something? Maybe. Or maybe they have, like, another desk where they play the game with like a controller or something? Maybe. Or maybe they have like another desk where they uh, they play keyboard and mouse. I don't know. Either way,
this is a great setup and I uh, I recommend everybody do the same if you need better cooling or
clean out the fucking dust from your fans and it'll probably be better.
Anyway, I think that's gonna be pretty much it for me uh yes so if you like the podcast and you
want to see more of it it is available every thursday on the youtubes the early version is
usually available on tuesday on odys uh, but sometimes I just forget to upload
on Odyssey, and then it just never comes out, but when it does come out, it's usually early,
um, the audio version is available basically anywhere, right, um, Spotify has given me the
ability to upload video podcasts to Spotify, so this might be a video podcast on Spotify. So
you can watch this on YouTube, Odyssey, or Spotify, which is awesome. Absolutely awesome.
But there's also the audio version there as well, if you don't care about the video.
I've got my main channel, that is Brodie Robertson. I do Linux-y videos and other tech-y related stuff.
I've got a gaming channel where I've not been active for a while
because I've been taking a break over Christmas.
But by the time you guys see this,
I will be doing a live stream the same day this goes up on YouTube.
I'll be playing Bloodborne, I believe.
Yes, Bloodborne.
And yeah, that's pretty much it.
I know the podcast is ending a couple minutes short today, but
I literally have nothing else
to say. So, unless I just drag it out by staring
at the camera for the next five minutes,
yeah,
I don't have anything to do. So, we're just
getting into here. Thank you guys for watching.
Have a great New Year.
If you celebrated Christmas or
whatever holiday event you celebrated i hope
you had fun i hope you didn't get too drunk and for new years i hope you didn't get too drunk again
because i know that i will uh i'll probably be live streaming for new years so check that out
on my main channel and uh yeah that's gonna be it for me and i'm out
