Good morning, good day, good evening. I am as always your host, Brodie Robertson, and today we are back for episode 96 of Tech of a T.
Now for me, it is currently December 29th, so this is actually going to be the first episode we upload for the new year.
So that will be out on whatever day that- I don't know what day it's going to be.
Whatever day it ends up being, January 4th or whatever it is. So I guess, um, Happy New Year or something like that. I hope
you guys enjoyed the new year. I don't know what I'm going to do at this stage because that's still
in the future. My plan, probably, um, so Friday is going to be, uh, New eve so it's very possible that i do my main channel live stream
on the friday yeah on the friday and then stream like into the new year i'm not gonna like stream
until the morning that would be insane but like stream past midnight do new year's celebration
go to sleep do all that fun stuff or maybe i'll just play final fantasy i don't know i'm definitely
gonna play final fantasy the following day though uh it's just depending on what i decide to do for
the stream itself because we've been off streaming for two weeks now i believe yeah two weeks so i
took my christmas break and the break before christmas as well because i yeah because i did
my christmas stuff the week before Christmas
and I didn't want to stream on Christmas, because, look, who's watching a stream on Christmas? Like, go
do things, go do anything else. Actually, I played Final Fantasy anyway, so I'm not doing anything
anyway. Don't take my, uh, my, my example as what you should emulate. Take my, take my words, not my
actions, that's one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how we do it.
Now, a lot of people like to, you know, create New Year's resolutions and all of that fun stuff, but I don't really ever do that. Like, the problem with the New Year's resolution
is most people, when they make them, they don't commit to them. Like, sure, you can make a New
Year's resolution and then commit to it all year, but if it's something you're going't commit to them like sure you can make a new year's resolution and then commit to it all year but if it's something you're going to commit to anyway then you probably had already started
like if you're like oh i want to run 5k's i want to lose 10 kilos or 20 pounds or whatever you
whatever you want i want to read a hundred books this year things like that anything that you were
going to or anything you actually committed or anything you were actually committed to do
you were probably committed to doing it before the new year happened it's not like the new year
is this magical time where oh we just reset the year especially for a lot of people because you
know most people don't get a long break over the new year anyway if you work in retail, for example, you get zero, there is no break, no,
there are no breaks on the retail train, people want to buy shit every day, so stores are gonna
be open every day, you want to buy stuff on, uh, on Christmas day, well, look, I wouldn't be
surprised if it's gonna be maybe a year or two until, uh, every store's just open Christmas day,
because there's a, um, there's a, I think it's an IGA.
There's an IGA or a Foodland, something like that near me
that's open all the time.
And most of them are open all the time.
Obviously, the bigger stores aren't,
but like the more, the smaller parts of the chain.
So I don't know how they decide
which ones are going to be open public holidays or not,
but some of them are open public holidays.
Some of them are open just all the time.
We don't have any 24
hour, what's the word,
supermarkets like you would see in
the US. Also, I don't think
we're ever going to see them because if you
want groceries any other time, just like
go to a servo.
But I wouldn't be surprised if that does
happen though. Just, who
needs sleep, who needs
days off, none of that matters anymore, people want to buy things, so people are gonna buy things,
and that's, that's sort of where I expect that to be, that got very derailed from New Year's
resolutions, but, um, if we, okay, if I was going to actually set them, which, as said, I don't
really care about them, if we're gonna go with some of the things that I'm already doing, that I'm going to continue into the new year,
I realized that over the years of my channel,
and someone pointed this out earlier in my comments,
I think it was the first person who mentioned it,
mentioned that I actually put on some weight.
Because when I started my channel,
I believe I was doing keto at the time.
So I was considerably lighter than I am now.
I think I was around 63, 63 kilos.
I was a bit underweight at that time.
Uh, I'll give you that in pounds.
63 kilos to pound.
Um, I, 138, there you go. Like i was lighter than i should have been uh but i i'm pretty sure
i probably should lose a little bit of weight like not a ton not go back to 63 but
currently i'm at about 80 something ish so i'd like to get back down to like 75
i'd be happy at like anywhere from like 75 to 78.
That's sort of where I want to be at.
So I've been getting out,
trying to exercise more,
do all that fun stuff.
We'll see how that goes.
Hopefully I lose just a little bit.
Or maybe I don't.
I'll just eventually just,
you know, the graph keeps just going
upwards and upwards and upwards.
And it just, just eventually I am
all of this
Now I don't think so we're gonna get I
Okay, yeah, there's a trajectory. There's a trajectory there even though the current state is not is not
Really bad. I don't like this trajectory. I would like to limit the trajectory.
And bring it back down to something a bit more.
Not trajectory upwards.
Flat.
Flat is where we want to be.
Not gaining.
Not losing.
Just living.
And hopefully that goes well.
Also I started reading more.
Or reading again.
I used to read like every night before I went to bed, and then I stopped, because I was watching anime, and playing a lot of Final
Fantasy, um, now I'm still reading through this, I think I showed this last week as well,
that is, maybe my lights are a bit too bright, maybe, um, anyway, yeah yeah still reading through Spice and Wolf volume 8 uh yeah that's that's going well
it's a good volume I like it Spice and Wolf is great if you haven't read Spice and Wolf
I uh really recommend doing so the anime left off well the anime also skipped an entire volume but
it left off sort of just before the story really starts picking up, just before Eve becomes a really important character,
just before Cole gets introduced,
if there was another season of Spice and Wolf,
I feel like the rest of Spice and Wolf would just all be adapted.
But it is what it is.
Besides that,
I make videos every day., upload every single day. It's not like I've been doing that the past year
or two already. Just keep uploading every single day. Maybe, look, maybe I'll change,
oh I guess I don't upload every day. Oh no, I did take two days, two days off, yeah,
because I didn't stream on two of those days. So I usually fill out the Saturday with a stream, but no stream, so no upload.
So, hey, maybe I actually broke what I said.
I'm not going to say I'm going to upload every day.
I might just decide at some point I'm going to take a week off.
There's still going to be content, but I just won't do a live stream.
Won't do live streams on the gaming channel, won't do live streams on the main channel, things like that.
Just take some time off.
I've been wanting to do so for quite a while
and I just haven't gotten around to.
Like, I've taken weekends off,
but I'd like to take off, you know,
an entire week.
I didn't do so
earlier in the year because I was waiting for it to be
good weather, then it took forever
to be good weather, and now it's 34
degrees Celsius. So, I'm just never going to get good weather, then it took forever to be good weather, and now it's 34 degrees Celsius. So,
I'm just never going to get good weather.
Maybe I'll take some time off over my birthday
or something like that. I don't know.
I'll work something out.
But, it'll happen
at some point. So, keep making
content, lose some weight,
read book.
Besides that, you know,
I don't really have anything that crazy. Like, I'm gonna
keep playing Final Fantasy.
I'm going to
eventually finish Shin Megami Tensei
3.
It's like, hey, I could play
Shin Megami Tensei, or I could play Final
Fantasy. Well, which one's gonna win?
Most of the time, it's Final
Fantasy, and that's why I'm still playing this game.
I'm like 30 hours into it
even though I've been playing it for a couple months at this point
it's a good game, it's a very good game
it's just, I like Final Fantasy
a little bit more
as I said, I don't really
spend too much time
thinking about news resolutions or anything like that
so I don't really have anything
too much else to say about that
really, I do have a um
i'm probably i don't know i there's been times in my life i'm like i'm going to
uh i guess plan out my day and keep a i guess keep a schedule uh keep like a journal
journal diary day planner whatever you want to call it. Keep track of what I'm actually doing.
My mom just gave me this the other day.
And she's like, I'll just have this.
I'm not going to use it.
I guess her work.
I think she said her work just gave her a, I think it's a week planner.
Sorry, it's a month planner.
It's a month planner.
Oh, that is, Jesus Christ, that's bright. Um, okay,
I'm gonna lower the light a bit. There we go, now you can see it. There we go. So, it's a month
planner. Um, I'm not a big fan of month planners. Problem with month planners is, you know, if you
want to write stuff for the day, you don't exactly have the room to do so. So if I'm going to be using a planner,
I usually like to go with either day
or I will compromise for a week planner.
Like a month planner,
really all you can do with a month planner
is you can say,
oh, I'm working on this day
or here's someone's birthday.
That's about as far as you can go with that.
So I don't know if i can really make use
of this but maybe i'll do something in uh in thunderbird or something like that i usually
usually what happens when i try to plan stuff is i'll do it for like maybe a month and then realize
that i don't actually do anything and that all of my stuff happens at the same time like every single week so I don't actually
need to plan stuff but then there'll be
like one you know one random
thing out of like out of nowhere
that shows up like oh I need to do this
maybe if I don't do
I guess I just want to try to do too strict
of a planning maybe if I try to
have it a bit looser just maybe
this actually will work just you know because I'm
bad with birthdays, for example.
Maybe just writing that down or maybe just writing down my workshifts or something like
that.
I don't know.
I'll see if I, I'll let you guys know if I actually decide to use this or if I, I might
do it, as I said, I might do it in Thunderbird.
The reason I like doing stuff like that in Thunderbird or whatever my email client is,
is because I check my emails pretty much every day.
So if it's in my email client, I'll actually see it.
If it's something I have to go out of my way to find,
then usually I just...
Yeah, usually that makes me forget about it considerably quicker.
Now, this week's...
I didn't even mention what we're talking about this week
this week's episode i wanted to have you know like i normally do have some random tech news
going on but there's fucking no tech news so i didn't realize this um but cs is in a week
so nothing's being announced like there's no there's no like oh here's this cool new
thing here's this cool new robot. Here's this cool new robot.
Here's a, I don't know, dumb phone.
Like, all of that stuff is just sort of baking, waiting for CES to happen.
There are some, like, pre-show CES stuff and things like that.
So you're getting some, like, teases about stuff.
But the big news that's coming out, all of that is being saved for CES.
So I guess when CES happens, then we'll have more to actually talk about.
But at least right now, most of what we have is just random,
random ass things that I found.
Like, hey, that sounds fun to talk about.
Maybe, why did that peak?
Maybe I'll just talk about that.
I know that there are some big companies
that are pulling out of CES
but I don't think that's really going to affect
the news that we're going to be hearing
so who do we have
that's pulled out
so T-Mobile bailed
Amazon bailed
Hisense bailed
Waymo's bailed Bailed. Hisense. Bailed.
Waymo's.
Bailed.
That is Alphabet Self-Driving Car Company.
Oi.
Oi.
Sorry, you heard a messenger ping.
Why do I even have the audio there enabled?
I never have that enabled. intel it looks like they yeah they've pulled
out they're doing a digital first live experience hyper x has pulled out uh gm like everybody is
pulling out of the uh the physical c yes experience i know that's obviously going to be a big part
related to also meta so facebook um obviously that's going going to be a big part related to also meta so facebook
um obviously that's going to be part like rona related with like the big spikes that are
happening right now but i wouldn't be surprised if come a couple of years from now this is sort
of the direction it goes anyway because when they do a also lenovo pulled out uh back in the 722nd when you do your own
live show, you have control
over how much time you get, how much
space you get, like what
you actually want to show
in a much more
free way, like there are limits on what
CES is going to allow you to do
what stage time they're actually going to give
you, what booth space they're actually going to give you
but when you run your own thing well that's not a limit you have this is sort of the
same thing that happened with e3 a couple of years back where a lot of the big studios a lot of big
studios and publishers like well like we're just going to do our own thing like people are still
going to watch it like if you do if you're son, if you're Microsoft, if you're, maybe not Blizzard right now,
if you're EA, people are still going to watch your show
even if you don't go to E3.
This seems to be basically the same idea that's happening.
A lot of the stuff, like, even these companies have pulled out,
obviously because they were going in the first place,
like, they had things to show.
So they're just going to do their own
online shows or
host their own show somewhere down
the line
and I think that just makes more sense
to be completely honest
it is
kind of like shows like this are kind of
fun like it is exciting to see all
of these people all being here
to all see
he like all this cool tech but from the perspective of these businesses i can totally see why they'd
pull out and why it just didn't really make any sense especially right now for them to actually
uh for them to actually do this especially because anywhere they go the people they send
would have to like quarantine for X amount of times
that if you paid for that time by the company.
It's just a lot of extra expenditure that right now,
I guess, doesn't really make any sense.
Plus, CES is going to have limited capacity as well,
so you're not going to get the same sort of in-person coverage
you would have in years gone by
so i i don't think it's a bad thing i i personally think this is fine i look i live in australia i
was never going to go to las vegas and go to ces anyway so nothing really changes for me um and if it the only concern i would have is with companies not giving out useful
materials to the people that were going to cover it like obviously they're going to give out some
marketing materials some like pr materials to like the youtubes and people like that the journalists
who are going to be covering the show but it's a bit different to have the device
directly in front of you.
Because when they say something like,
oh, this has a nice tactile-feeling keyboard,
if the keyboard's in front of you,
you can tap on it and see,
is what they're saying actually true?
But it is what it is.
CES is pretty much going to be mainly online this year,
which shouldn't really surprise anyone.
And yeah, that's basically how it do be.
I'd actually like completely lost track of time today.
I was planning to not record the podcast today
because I, for some reason,
I thought that two hours after two o'clock was six o'clock.
Right?
Okay.
Follow my mentality, right?
I'm really tired right now.
I don't, obviously, don't seem as tired as I normally am.
It's like my brain died rather than physically tired.
So I do everything in 24-hour time
because I'm a sensible person who liked
my clocks to make sense. So I do everything in 24 hour time. Now, for some reason, I just forgot
that I do everything in 24 hour time and also dropped one of the numbers on my clock. So if you
look at four o'clock, four o'clock is 1600, right? So if you forget the 1, right? You forget the 1 at the
start and then you forget that you're using
24 hour time, 1600
then becomes 6 o'clock
I thought the 2 hours after 2 o'clock
was 6 o'clock. This is how fucking
stupid I am. Why do you guys
watch my videos? But
yeah, I had time to record this today so we're
recording it. I was actually thinking of doing
a shorter podcast because of that.
Maybe it will end up shorter, but at least
at least at this stage, that's not
the plan.
Yeah.
It's been a long, long year.
Very, very long year. Long week.
Not really a long week, I guess.
This week's been a weird week, actually.
So, Monday
I was apparently like supposed to work but, like, I didn't.
Things happened, and I just didn't go in.
Then my day was, like, really messed up because on Tuesday I had a shift that, like, is not my normal shift.
So, like, completely threw out my day.
It was, like, a couple hours earlier than it normally is.
So, I'm just, like, what am I even doing right now?
Like, how do I move stuff in my day like my brain is so accustomed to just having everything
in like a set schedule that when things move out of that schedule i'm like so there's the same
amount of hours but how do i use them like okay it's gonna take me two hours to plan and record
this video let's just say that or maybe three hours we take me two hours to plan and record this video. Let's just say that.
Or maybe three hours, we'll say.
Three hours to plan and record this video.
Now, if I have that three hours in three hours that it normally would be in, that's fine.
Now, if this three hours moves a couple of hours later, I'm just like,
but how do I fit this in?
My schedule doesn't make any sense now.
What do I do?
Like, it's the same amount of time but like when
it gets to and i know it's the same amount of time but when i get to it because of the differences
in when the time is is located i just don't know how to approach it this is a problem i have to
deal with and i've sort of gotten better at it as time's gone on but uh I'm definitely not
as uh as good at handling that as I would certainly certainly like to be um
speaking of like to be that I don't know where I'm segwaying this uh I would like the steam deck
to be available when Valve has said that they're going to make it available.
Boom, there's a segue.
Got it.
I am professional.
Valve has said that the Steam Deck is still on track for the February launch.
So if you guys didn't hear a couple of weeks, months, whenever it happened,
Valve ended up delaying the first shipment of the Steam Deck.
So I believe the first shipment
would have been out now, if I recall
correctly. I believe it was a
December launch, wasn't it? It was either
December or January. Let me just check.
Uh, Steam Deck.
Uh,
can we find some news?
Say it was announced. Delayed by two months.
Yeah, it was originally set for launch in
December.
Delayed by two months in February.
Whatever. I'm just going to accept it.
It was delayed originally because
of hardware constraints.
You know, basically, there's a
fucking chip shortage. Getting
chips for
anything is difficult
whether it be gaming consoles
whether it be
you know
a car, whether it be for a
vibrator, literally everything
getting chips for it
is very difficult, if you don't know, there's actually a lot of
car companies
down the vibrator route, a lot of car companies, I'll let you know down the vibrant route, but a lot of car companies
that have car lots
filled with new cars
that they can't send out because
modern cars are so computerized
that they don't
really function properly
without that chip. So if they don't
get the chip, we can't sell the
car. This is why cars from the
early 2000s are great because they don't get the chip, we can't sell the car. This is why cars from the early 2000s are great,
because they don't have this problem.
Or the early 90s, or like...
Chip cars, cars from the early 2000s and 90s are great,
because no chip problem.
Also, I was loving this news about the Steam Deck,
because one of the guys who always talks about it
is Greg Coomer.
Valve, you have a guy at your company
whose last name is Coomer.
It's such a good name.
It is such a good name, and I love it.
There's no way that if he
was in school right now,
this kid would not be
horribly bullied.
Obviously, you know, being an adult an adult he's gonna get mocked on
the internet and people are gonna make memes about him but like uh that's the sort of name
that you would not want to have as a kid you do not want to have the last name kuma
uh anyway it's a real product launch so many thousands of people are right away going to receive decks as soon as we're able to ship them.
But even talking about thousands would be quite low compared to the volumes we're shooting for in the first few months.
We don't- okay, we still don't know like how many devices
firstly have been pre-ordered, but secondly how many actually going to sell, because those aren't the same numbers.
So the pre-order, you can reserve, like, for example,
you could reserve whatever the Cybertruck.
You can reserve the Cybertruck, but that doesn't mean you're going to buy a Cybertruck.
It's the same case in this situation,
because there's such a big gap between the pre-order opening and the thing actually selling,
there's no guarantee on how many of those pre-orders are actually going to convert into sales.
Plus, we don't actually know how big those pre-order numbers actually were.
We do have that one report of really early numbers when the site crashed
and there was a bug in the site that showed how many people actually did pre-order at that time.
But besides that,
we don't know. We don't
know if it's 100,000 units,
10,000, a million
units, 10 million. We have absolutely
no idea. All we know
I thought this cat was making some noise.
All we know
is it is a number greater
than zero. That is what we are aware of because
some of the uh dev kits have shipped out so clearly there is more than zero steam decks
in existence wait don't buy me what are you doing
anyway uh yes steam deck it's cool device i am I am very excited for it. I will not have
one on launch, but I'm excited for it because I can milk the Steam Deck for lots and lots of money.
There will be Steam Deck videos coming from my channel. Obviously, uh, I'm going to make,
try to make good videos from it, but, you know know I can make a video talking about How good is the new version of SteamOS?
How
What games are gonna work on the Steam Deck things like that? Maybe I won't do that one, but I'll definitely doing a look at
SteamOS 3 and talking about sort of the way that Valve has approached it because the iCell is going to be available at some point
so when it is, yeah, I will be giving that a sus, giving that a look.
I really, can I talk about something?
You know what I really hate?
I really hate that after Among Us happened, I cannot say the word sus.
If I say the word sus, people think I'm talking about Among Us, think I'm making an Among Us happened, I cannot say the word sus. If I say the word sus, people think I'm talking about Among Us,
think I'm making an Among Us reference.
Sus, like, the common usage for sus in Australia is to say, like,
you're going to check something out.
You're going to look at something.
You're going to, you know, examine a thing.
Like, if you say, I'm gonna give that car
a sus.
That means I'm gonna go and check it out.
I've said this in videos before and in
livestreams. People are like, why are you talking about
Among Us, Among Us, Among Us, Among Us?
The word sus existed
before Among Us.
It existed before Among Us. I can say
the word sus. I can also say the word
sus as a joke in reference to among us
it's just that I I
use sus in my day-to-day life and
After after that whole among us trend happened. It is very difficult to use that same
Vernacular that same slang on the internet without weird people having no idea what the
hell I'm saying. And it's normal for no one to have any idea what I'm saying because I'm Australian
and I like to throw in like random shit that no one has any idea what I'm fucking talking about
anyway. But at least let me say sus. Just let me do it. I want to say sus. I'm not talking about
you stupid among us. If I am, I'll make it very obvious by doing a stupid accent.
Because that's the way, that's the way you,
that's the only like actual way you can talk about Among Us at this point.
You have to talk about in the dumbest way possible.
You have to like sort of, you have to embrace your inner mudaha
and just channel that through all of your,
through all of your being and through all of your actions.
And then at that point, you can truly say that something is sus.
I'm not going to do it now because I'm really bad at it.
Maybe I'll make...
When I eventually get my soundboard that I said I was going to make two years ago,
I'll put a Muda Ha sound in it.
Look, at some point, I will get around to using a sound board in my livestreams. It's just
I never got around to
doing so. So,
uh,
it's still sitting there. Like, the project's still
like, in my repos folder, and I could
try it out, like, right now.
It's just, I haven't.
So,
yeah. Anyway,
uh,
I hope some of you guys yawned moving on from that uh gaming on linux posted a amusing amusing article the other day so this is a doom mod i love so there's so many
great doom mods out there uh this is a hilarious doom mod that takes aim at NFTs.
NFTs, they're freaking everywhere.
And NFT bros become some of the most annoying people on the planet.
And so, of course, now there's a Doom mod to mock them.
Also, Valve, a few months back, banned NFT games on the Steams,
which is good.
I appreciate that because I really don't like this idea of pay to earn games anyway it's not particularly it's not a particularly fleshed out mod with the main
aim of it just being pure mockery you get to run around with your trusty camera taking snaps of
everything like running around and right click saving on images that would be nfts released by
modder ultra boy which is a great name uh last week it's certainly been turning
some heads across the internet especially because of just how toxic things become in the nft
community what is this one i have no idea what this tweet is uh hi everyone we are unfortunately
suspending our regular posting indefinitely because last night one of the nft bros that
we quote treated are quote tweeted as well as their goons docked one of the doxx, one of the NFT bros that we quote tweeted,
as well as their goons, doxxed one of the owners of this account.
And they were spamming it in the replies of our tweets.
Fortunately, we have reported these to Twitter.
And they seem to have been taken down. However, for his safety, we'll cease posting until we ascertain the situation has calmed down.
Fuck NFTs and fuck anyone who has enabled this awful behavior.
You know, I can fully respect that.
Let's actually see some of the quote tweets.
Let's see.
Come on.
If there's quote tweets in here,
there's going to be people that are defending NFTs.
Come on.
Come on.
Where are they?
Come on.
No, I can't find one.
It's just people quote tweeting and actually being positive,
which is rare for quote tweeting because this is Twitter.
It's all very meta and the game is basically just
a meme, but a good one.
NFT fans seem to really
hate the jokes aimed at them in regards
to ownership. Owning NFTs basically
means that no jokes are allowed.
This is like being a Linux YouTuber.
It's really like anything involving
Twitter.
If you like a thing, no jokes
are allowed. If you make jokes, that
means that you hate it.
It's all completely ridiculous, and every day
there's more and more reports of
artwork being stolen from the original artist,
turned into a ridiculous NFT,
and then sold to someone else.
Things have gotten so ridiculous
that popular art website DeviantArt
implemented a system to notify people
if their work is detected as an NFT.
Oh, I did see this
in their deviantart protect software.
I did see this, actually.
We'll talk about this in just a moment.
So if you want to go and play this mod,
it is available on ModDB
and works fine with GZoom,
GZoom, GZDoom, and Doom 2.
Basically, yeah, I saw this...
Oh, it came out a while back, actually.
Oh, I only just saw people talking about this a couple of days ago.
Basically, the idea is that if you upload art to DeviantArt
and then you pay their sub fee for their DeviantArt Protect thing,
then if
there is an NFT created
of your art
then it will alert you to it.
That's cool.
Or if people like
actually, oh the NFT
oh the NFT detection
is new.
Oh that's why people are talking about it.
So previously if people re-uploaded
your art, that was how that was
being used.
It's just the NFT thing.
Oh, that's why people are
talking about it. Okay, makes sense.
That's cool.
But also, it requires
you using DeviantArt, and that also means
why would you use DeviantArt?
Man, Deviantiantart what a site
maybe it's better nowadays all like my entire perception of deviantart is set in like 2010
with like sonic uh sonic ocs so look maybe maybe my uh my opinion of deviantArt is stuck in the past and is actually a good site nowadays, but hey, maybe not.
Anyway, so yeah, if you use DeviantArt and you like your art
and you don't want people to sell it as an NFT,
then this is a thing that exists.
I don't know how well it works.
So, like, clearly there is some sort of machine learning here if they're able to detect
images that are similar but not the same so it's like you know this is clearly flipped and they've
changed some colors around um clearly there's some sort of either human operation which i really doubt
or machine learning to detect it.
But hey, if someone does make an NFT of your art,
you can't really do anything anyway.
Because what are you going to do?
It's been made an NFT.
It's on the blockchain.
I guess the image, no.
The image isn't.
But the NFT exists. The NFT containing a link to the image,
that's on the blockchain,
so as long as that image it's pointing to is available,
yeah, nothing you can really do about it.
The NFT exists?
Well, hey, you're screwed now.
Enjoy your day.
And then people can make, you know,
they can make NFTs of the same image.
Like, you don't...
NFTs are not non-fungible
because you can just make more NFTs of the same image
because this is a really stupid idea.
I might talk...
I might have to do, like, an entire episode
on, like, play to earn because NFTs are one entire episode on play to earn.
Because NFTs are one thing.
But play to earn, I feel like play to earn is, honestly, it's more annoying.
Because I don't, look, as much as I don't like the NFT thing,
it's pretty easy to ignore NFTs.
Even if you're an artist, if someone takes your art and then sells it, well, people
are taking your art anyway and
doing whatever they want to with it.
The fact that they're doing it
through crypto now, sure, it's also
annoying, but it's nothing new than what
they were already doing. As for the
play-to-earn idea, the
problem I have with this is it sort of...
What's the best
way to put it?
The reason why you play video games,
the reason why most of us play video games
is because we want them to be fun.
We want them to be a distraction from our regular life
and be something where it doesn't feel like work.
Now, not everyone's like this.
Some people are fucking crazy
and try to go for like,
I don't know, rank one warrior in Final Fantasy.
I saw a clip from Xenos the other day.
Rank one warrior.
That's fucking insane.
But like most people aren't insane like that.
Most people play games
because they just want to have fun.
The problem when you introduce play to earn mechanics
is it really changes up the, I guess, the reason why you're approaching the game. And it becomes very easy
to start treating that like it's something that is an actual job. And I don't like that.
I would be fine with it if it was just, you know, developers doing their own thing,
not like new developers coming and doing their own thing,
not bothering the things that I like.
But when it's companies that we all know,
companies like Ubisoft and EA and companies like that,
who are like, yeah, in our future games,
we're going to include NFTs and play to earn mechanics.
That's when it starts bothering me.
It bothers me when it starts infringing on the things that I actually like.
And you might like play-to-earn mechanics.
And that's fine.
If you do, be my guest.
But I don't.
And I want nothing to do with them.
But that's why indie games are great.
Because then you can find indie devs who just like making games.
Who like making good games rather than play-to-earn trash.
Oh, that's the other problem with a lot of play-to-earn games.
A lot of them... A lot of them... They're not good games rather than play-to-earn trash. Oh, that's the other problem with a lot of play-to-earn games. A lot of them, a lot of them, they're not good games.
Like, it's...
The problem when you...
Okay, you can make a good play-to-earn game, sure.
Like, if you took a good game and then you add play-to-earn mechanics in it,
it would still be a good game.
It would just be, I feel like, hurt by the fact
that it's got these play-to-earn mechanics in it. The problem though is a lot of these play-to-earn games are made
as crypto projects first, and then a game second. And you can clearly see this in the way they
actually play, because they're fucking garbage. Like, I haven't seen a single play-to-earn game that's actually good.
With the exception of digital
horse racing, which,
look, it's horse racing.
It's not going to be good either way, but you certainly can't
make it any worse by
digitizing it. I guess unless you make it
so it's very easy to cheat.
Um, yeah.
Anyway, that's enough
me ranting about how much I like crypto.
Not how much I like crypto.
I like crypto.
I hate the fact that crypto is trying to become this thing
that is ingrained in everything.
This push for Web3 that's going...
I'm very convinced that this push for Web3
is going to lead to a big, big crypto crash.
Because there's so, so many scam projects right now,
there is no way that in the coming year,
coming two or so years,
that there isn't this massive i guess public shift towards crypto
and it just obviously it's going to come back up at some point but i'm going to be really surprised
if this this bull market doesn't end at some point like we've been in the bull market for
too long way too long and there's so many scam projects. You can make money just from fucking anything.
Meme.
Meme.
What is it?
Meme token.
Meme tokenomics.
That's the one.
Meme tokenomics.
Like the fact that you don't actually need an actual use case for your project.
The use case is the fact that people know about it.
Like that's the entire use case. The fact that people know about it. Like, that's the entire use case.
The fact that this is the state we're in, this can't go on forever.
Like, I know the crypto bro is going to say,
oh, it's going to go on forever.
We're going to bull market forever.
It's going to go forever up.
But you can't go on forever when your entire basis of your economy
is on nothing like yes there are projects
that actually do have use cases like you know bitcoin cardano ripple things like that and
projects like this are going to stick around but i can't see meme tokenomics being this thing that is a legitimate investment in the years going forward.
And I know a lot of people are going to get burnt and a lot of people probably disagree with me,
but that's where I stand on it. I do have money in crypto, absolutely. And I've put money into
meme tokens before, but when I do that, I don't put, the meme tokens I don't ever put money in that I'm not
willing to lose
as for the
not just not willing to lose
not expecting to lose
when I put money into Dogecoin
a while back
I think it was just after
the first
big pump
I expected it to go nowhere, and then
I made a bit of money off, and that was cool. Then I
just reinvested that shitcoin money
into more shitcoins.
But I actually do have legitimate investments in
various crypto coins as well.
And I don't think the entire
market itself is bad.
There is just a very high percentage,
like 95%
of the market,
which is complete shit and should probably go away.
And we need a complete refresh.
We need a, what's the word?
We need a economic reset.
That's the one.
Economic reset on crypto. But it do be how it do be it is what it is and i should probably go to the next uh what
is that i'm gonna pause i can't speak speaking is hard uh speaking is very hard anyway moving on
from talking about crypto and crypto and more crypto and other crypto uh here is this fucking scary robot here we go
look at this thing okay so this is a humanoid robot right but it's got also look at this robot
in the background i love this one this one has like humanoid um what's the word expressions and they're they're a little bit they're a little
bit a little bit cursed like i don't like this i really don't like this it's it's a little bit real. Like Anyone listening to the audio version
right now, I don't know how
to explain this.
But think of
think of a robot movie
just before they came to
kill all of us.
That is
this smile is so perfect
at the end, though.
It's such a strained smile.
I think this is cool.
I'm not trying to disparage
the engineers actually working on this.
This is really cool
from an engineering
and a computer science perspective.
I just don't like it. I just don't like it I just don't like it
it's too
too real for me
let's see what the comments are saying
combine this with Boston Dynamics and we'll have
mobile emotive Fortnite dancing
robots
you know what
that
Fortnite dancing robots
I can get behind that
um
the constant eyes blinking
are probably the key that makes all facial expressions
so realistic and convincing
um almost out of
uncanny valley I don't think
so I think we are very
we've fucking taken the uncanny valley
and just dug a hole 10 kilometers down.
This is too deep in the uncanny valley.
I don't like this.
Maybe I just don't like the idea of humanoid robots.
I think we should just not do that.
This has gone really badly in every sci-fi movie it's ever happened in. Maybe we just shouldn't build humanoid robots. I think we should just not do that. This is going really badly in every
sci-fi movie it's ever happened in.
Maybe we just shouldn't build humanoid robots.
But, hey, you gotta build...
You know what's gonna push this industry forward?
Sex.
Because that's what pushes every industry forward.
Wait till
the super
expressive... Hey, look, it sent Dex.
Wait till the super expressive humanoid look it sent Dex wait till the super
expressive humanoid
sex robots, because that's happening at some
point, because of course it is, why wouldn't it
um
the engineering this must have taken
is mind numbing, good job
yes
uh
just, the more I watch
this, the I guess the less I like it yeah, that's a good way to put it,
like, this, this robot here, he's, like, cursed enough where I can accept that he's a robot,
this thing here, if you gave this, like, a, a actual, like, humanoid skin, it looks too real,
and I like that, I know I'm just saying I don't like that a lot, but I think it's,
that's a good way to sum up my entire opinion on this i don't like it it's scary and uh we should not do
it i to be fair boston dynamics is kind of scarier if you actually look at like what the robots can
do uh you know attaching guns to them and stuff and like fucking parkour robots but from like a intrinsic
emotional
perspective, this worries me more.
But that is the direction of tech.
One day we'll have human
butlers and all work
will be done by robots and
we will have no jobs
and everyone will be an entertainer
I've actually like heard this
as an argument like one day
we don't actually need
a what's the word a fucking
universe
based income we don't need a universe
based income because one day
everyone will just be entertainers
because that's a successful
economy I guess
I don't want to
get into ubi in this but i'm in i'm not in support of it today but i am supportive in the future when
we automate every bit of work that is ever possible because that is going to happen um
as much as some people think that some work is not going to be automated i really i have my doubts that there are there's anything that is intrinsically
intrinsically only possible by a human i really have my doubts that like even knowledge work
even knowledge especially knowledge work actually but even creative works i feel like even in the creative space, there's there is
room and possibly
possibly
even, not just room
the ability
for these things to be
automated. Obviously in the case of creative
works, it would be much
more long down
the line, but
as for knowledge work, like programming even um programming legal work
uh medicine i guess medicine's not really knowledge work um it is a very knowledgeable
job but it's not knowledge work as in you're sitting at a desk uh i guess if you're doing
medical research that's different um but i don't think there's any reason why these
cannot be automated and there's a lot of the work that is being automated because you know we're
not uh spending our time writing you know libraries from the ground up anymore we have these libraries
already made we have tools like github cop, which automatically generates sections of the code.
Obviously, this is very basic,
but it's not impossible to go from that to then one day you can remove the need for the human intervention
and basically just have that being fully automated.
I've not read or heard anything from people who are knowledgeable in the field
that indicates to me that something like this is impossible.
I know there are people who say that it is,
and people who are very smart to say that it is,
but I've seen more compelling evidence that it's not impossible,
it's just very, very difficult.
I don't think there's anything special about our
meat prison our meat prison and the the gloopy meat in the meat prison that uh allows you to do
work that couldn't otherwise be done through a i guess a digital recreation or a digital
interpretation of that structure uh why am i talking about
robots and neuroscience i know the rule why am i talking about neuroscience and
engineer i don't know how we got here um but we're here anyway speaking of i don't know how we got
here um i don't know how we got here to thinking this was a good idea.
XPG imagines a gaming mouse that can store one terabyte of games.
Hopefully this doesn't stay a CES concept.
I really hope it does.
I really hope it does.
That would be a very power hungry mouse.
And a very heavy mouse as well so there aren't many details
for it but the current
prototype can integrate a 1TB
solid state memory
running at 985
Mbps
like it's fast
but
having that given that it's a wide mouse obviously yeah you'd
have to have it be wired that makes sense um having that in the the device is going to be
quite heavy like not you know not as heavy as batteries probably yeah definitely not as heavy
as batteries but quite heavy um also I wonder what the sort of
heat output from that's going to be
because right now we do have chips
on board on most mice
they can store
here's a lot of the time
it's only like a couple hundred kilobytes
we can store like the config of the mouse
that doesn't really take
much to keep cool
a terabyte of solid state memory though is a little bit different mouse. That doesn't really take much to keep cool.
A terabyte of solid-state memory, though,
is a little bit different. A little bit different
and might be a problem.
Let's see.
There's certainly room for a few titles
as long as one of them isn't Call of Duty.
How big is the biggest Call of Duty?
The latest, sorry.
Hoo!
Wait, game? Oh.
COD game collection is 500 gig. Okay.
Uh, I know that wasn't there one
game that was just 500 gig?
Uh, I feel like there was.
XPG
says that visitors to its
CES booth will get a peek at the vault.
So it's all is possible that we'll hear
more details soon. You probably will.
Given this is being built as a
concept and prototype, it's
possible this is
most we'll ever hear about this mouse
so that it's not exactly uncommon things in
CES.
The other problem with this mouse is I kind of wonder
how expensive it would be.
So...
Obviously...
Obviously, we're not fitting
a...
Assuming this is a regular-sized
mouse, you're not
fitting a 2.5-inch
SSD in this. That's not happening.
So... It would have to be something... fitting a 2.5 inch SSD in this. That's not happening. So,
it would have to be something
you'd either have to have a custom
PCB design to somehow fit it in this
or do something
more akin to the way that
like a
M.2 drive is structured.
And when you're getting the things like that,
prices just go
whoo!
This mouse, if it ever existed, and, like, it's not even a very impressive mouse,
if it ever existed, it would easily be in, like, the $400 or $500 range, without a doubt,
but, like, as a gaming mouse, it actually looks really shit, uh, this is my G305,
that has as many buttons, sure, it doesn't have an LED many buttons sure it doesn't have an LED
actually it does have an LED, it has one right here
but like sure it doesn't have as many lights
but like
not going to be super expensive
I feel like this is one of those things which
is only going to stay in the
prototype and concept stage
and never actually make it
to the public and I kind of and never actually make it to the public.
And I kind of hope that it stays there,
because just buy a fucking external hard drive.
We don't need to put everything into everything.
Like, you don't need a fucking terabyte of storage
in your stupid mouse.
Just buy a terabyte SSD. Let's actually
see how much a terabyte
external
SSD actually is.
1 TB external
SSD.
$450.
That's on the expensive side.
$88.
Or is this just an enclosure? No88 or is this just an enclosure
no this is not just an enclosure
this is
sure it probably isn't the fastest one out there
but
this is
$88 this is $150
like you can clearly get
these for fairly cheap
it doesn't need to be in your bloody mouse.
You don't have so little...
If you have so little space that you need to put your storage in your mouse,
just stop playing video games.
You don't have enough space for a mouse mat at that point.
Like, I'm sure there is somewhere you could put an external SSD.
I know the reason for, what this is like the reason why this thing exists
is because
hey
you could go and take your mouse
to like your friend's house
and have all your games there
and all that fun stuff
but like
you can also just take an SSD
let's see some of the comments actually
A mouse and SSD storage
Is not high up in the list of things
I'd like to combine
Yep this year's CES is going to be real fire
I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up cancelling it
I wouldn't be surprised either
Considering what we heard earlier
Seems pretty dumb if it was this easy
To carry PC games and run them
On any PC as if they were a game cartridge Oh wait if it was this easy to carry PC games and run them on any PC as if they're a game cartridge.
Oh, wait.
If it was this...
If it was...
Wait.
If it was easy to carry games and run them on any PC as if they're a game cartridge, okay, but that isn't the case.
No, it actually is the case, though.
Like, what do you mean that isn't the case?
If you just plug the drive into a new system and you point steam at it
then it's going to work
exactly as you'd expect
if the storage medium was
removable from the mouse then sure
why not just package an external SSD
with the
imagine this
imagine
so imagine bundling
a good mouse with an ssd
it's not the worst idea i've ever heard for a peripheral yeah it's true it is not the worst
i love this get it the comments getting worse um and that's about the best thing i can say
about this ridiculous idea for a peripheral uh Shouldn't this be on the keyboard instead?
You could probably fit...
Like, a lot of keyboards, you could reasonably make them a little bit thicker
and easily fit it in somewhere.
No, it should be on the headphones instead.
I agree.
Headphone instead.
This seems like it'd be a decent idea if the whole computers themselves were micronized.
Micronized.
Down to the size of a mouse or smaller.
But I doubt that the technology required to pull that off successfully is quite there yet.
You mean like a raspberry pi?
Like a raspberry pi.
Definitely a gimmick only.
Absolutely.
No doubt.
Raspberry Pi.
Definitely a gimmick only.
Absolutely.
No doubt.
It's really hard for me to imagine.
But there's a large market for this kind of product.
No, there's no market for it. Because the product doesn't exist.
Essentially, it requires you to have multiple computers in different locations.
But for some reason, no capacity to just install the same games on all those computers.
I've never heard of someone having that kind of situation.
Let alone it being common enough to build a dedicated Frankenstein product to solve it.
XPG has more market data than I do.
No, they have engineers who are bored.
I don't think they have market data indicating that people want this.
I think they are just fucking bored
and are trying to justify their their job still existing so like
yes we need something to show off at ces we're gonna make this really fucking weird mouse that
has a terabyte of storage in it because lol why not that sounds kind of funny
and you know i think they they succeeded it does sound kind of funny, and I hope that coming out of CES, we see
some, like, ridiculous things
of this caliber.
Sure, there's going to be the boring stuff, like,
oh, here's a new sheep-o-you,
here's a new...
Probably not graphics cards.
Here's a new... Maybe graphics
cards from, like, you know, EVGA.
Like, here's the new 3090
Wind Force Extreme cards from like you know evga be like here's the new 3090 wind force extreme magical gamer edition
or something uh i is wind forces i don't know which company makes wind force i have no idea
um anyway yeah so hopefully ces is just as exciting as, uh, as that, but probably won't be.
Speaking of things that are exciting,
but also very terrifying and shouldn't be allowed on the road.
Tesla's.
So I didn't know this.
Um,
Tesla has a thing called Tesla arcade,
right?
Apparently you could use it while you were driving,
like in the front seat as the driver, you could just it while you were driving. Like, in the front seat, as the driver.
You could just play games.
How are Teslas allowed on the road?
Like, I genuinely don't understand how Teslas are allowed on the road.
So, Tesla won't let people play video games on its cars built in display while in motion anymore.
Wow. Crazy.
This change, which The Verge confirmed is included in the Friday V11 software update,
comes right on the heels of the NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,
announcing an investigation into the feature,
which would include the evaluation of over half a million cars.
When the Verge tested out the feature,
could passenger play earlier this month, we could
play a few Tesla arcade games while the car was moving.
A warning popped up on the screen
saying only passengers are allowed
to play while the car is moving, along
with a button asking to confirm the player
is a passenger.
Because as we know, having
big prompts on the screen
always deters people doing something
that is really, really stupid.
But nothing really stops the driver
from pressing the button
and playing a game while driving.
There's no argument that can be made
that the feature isn't dangerous,
the executive director
of the Center for Auto Safety said.
True.
Tesla told the agency it would change the feature
that shouldn't have been there in the first place.
The NHTSA said in an emailed statement,
the Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers
from selling vehicles with defects
posing unreasonable risks to safety,
including technologies that distract drivers
from driving safety.
Straight up saying that Tesla's cars
are just defective.
I love that. That's a great take.
The regulator agency
has been paying a lot of attention to the automaker
over the past year. It
opened an investigation into its autopilot
feature after Tesla's repeatedly
crashed into parked emergency
vehicles. It's also
publicly asked the company's
rollout of its full self-driving
beta, which used a safety score
to determine who got it, and initially
came with an NDA.
Oh my lord.
How are Teslas allowed on
the fucking road?
Um.
Even if it's just for passengers,
I would find it annoying and distracting
to have someone playing games in the car display
while I'm driving.
Not just any display, it's also the gauge
cluster.
Wait, wait.
Sorry, I don't own a Tesla because I'm not fucking
rich.
Wait, no way that
they don't have the gauge cluster
in front of the steering wheel?
Wait,
so if someone was playing a game, you wouldn't
be able to see, oh my god, that's
actually fucking amazing.
I mean, Tesla doesn't have a 360
degree camera. It has a lot of smart
intuitive features. It also has a lot of surprising
and baffling omissions.
Mine is routinely fooled by placing
groceries on the front seat.
Tesla only detects
the existence of a driver one
time at startup. Why would
they do this? Tesla does not appear
to care about their customers or their workers
safety.
Including tech... here we go, here's
actually something I wanted to mention. So,
this point right here
that I mentioned earlier, the Vehicle Safety
Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles
with defects posing unreasonable risks,
including technologies that distract drivers
away from driving safely.
Um, and where is it
so like the majority of cars that removed most physical buttons and require people to look at
a computer screen to interact with a button uh i really don't like this idea of sticking
touch screens in cars i like the physical knobs in my cars because i can look at the road and if i
want to change my car volume i can just at the road and if i want to change my
car volume i can just reach over find where the knob is change the volume i don't need to be like
oh where's it on the screen i like here here wait here here oh now i'm dead like i can just do it
and this is how how we ever got to the point where we allow car companies to sell cars that
where we allow car companies to sell cars that do not have physical buttons for their radio
is fucking beyond me.
I'd be quite curious to know which buttons you personally can
and do reliably hit without looking in your car.
Wait, this person's actually defending it?
In my touchscreen-less Toyota,
the only thing I can hit blind is the volume knob,
and I might just as well use the steering wheel for that.
Yeah, the vast majority of them.
They're consistently in the same place, have different sizes, and etc.
A touchscreen menu has no tactile feedback.
This can be addressed.
You can have touchscreens that do have a tactile vibration sort of thing.
And buttons move, shift, appear, and disappear
depending on where you are in the menu.
This is actually the big problem with touch screens.
Not just the fact that you cannot feel where the buttons are.
The fact that between different menus,
some buttons just may not exist.
So you may be trying to do something,
and nothing's happening.
You have to look away and now
you're dead
how? how is this a thing?
anyone who doesn't
find any difference between the two is fooling themselves
absolutely true
um
let's see
I have an older car from the 2000s
but for me, volume on the radio,
FM to AM, it's easily located on mine.
Yeah, because that's sensible.
Volume controls are not something
I can do literally without looking.
I think most cars,
you can probably do that just fine.
Like, there's a knob, you just turn the fucking knob.
It's just muscle memory
through repetition
and feel, how do you think people play the piano
witchcraft, true
comparing
touchscreens to actively playing games
an enormous stream, edgy hot take, no it's not
an edgy hot take, touchscreens just shouldn't
be in cars, it's such a bad
idea and I really hope
at some point there is a
I really do hope that as time goes on
and as companies like Tesla are looked into,
there is more thought put into the idea of touchscreens in cars
and we go back to just having physical knobs.
We don't need all these smart features in cars.
Most of them are just safety hazards.
Like, why do you need all of this information in a car most of it is meaningless
sure having things like your mileage is fine but like that you can just have them your gauge
cluster um but there's so much information going on in here or like the the tesla what is this
is this supposed to be the um i know this is part of the self-driving
thing, but I think this might also be a map.
Like, that's fine, sure, but like
does it need to be along
with all of this other stuff? That's sort of my
main point. And I'm gonna
argue no. I feel like modern
cars have got way, way too much
going on in them.
And we've sort of accepted
this addition of new features,
even though it is coming
with a subtraction of safety.
I would like to
actually see a study done
on how much less
safe
having touchscreens in cars
actually is. I'm sure
that studies have been done,
I just haven't seen them myself
I would have to guess
that there is a fairly
sizable difference
between the two situations
especially if it's a new car
like it's one thing to have a car
that you've owned for a couple of years
and you sort of
understand where everything is in the car
like you can use the touchscreen sort of understand where everything is in the car like you can use the touch screen sort of half
half without looking at it
but with a new car where you're like
I don't actually know where anything is located or if you switch
from like Android Auto to
like whatever the Tesla thing is, you switch from
Tesla's thing to Apple's
thing, like all of these have
completely different layouts
and you're going to have to
if you want to change to if you want to change
volume you want to change stereo you want to change music anything like that while you're
driving you're gonna have to go and take your eyes off the road i feel like it's a new car or like
not not just a new car like a new car for you that is always going to be the most dangerous in this
way um yeah that's enough talking about that. Let's talk about stupid
people. Uh, do you want to lick
windows? Like,
unironically lick windows.
So,
a Japanese professor
named, uh,
Homei Miyashita
from Meiji University
uh, suggested this could be
used to train cooks or sommeliers remotely.
So this dude,
straight up is like,
I'm going to build a taste TV
because I want people
unironically licking windows.
Taste the TV.
I've actually watched this video,
but this single screenshot by itself sums up how dumb this is.
What is this?
This device allows you to taste what appears on screen.
And this totally isn't a- this totally isn't a this totally isn't a
extreme
safety hazard
I'm thinking of making a platform where
taste from all over the world
can be distributed as taste
content, it's the same as
watching a movie or listening to a song that you
like, I hope people can in the future
download and
enjoy the flavours of the food from the restaurants they fancy.
Regardless of where they are based in the future.
Now, let me just tell you something about food, right?
Do you know what makes food good?
Like, taste is great, right?
Taste is great.
I'm sure we can all appreciate taste.
But do you know what is better than just taste?
Food.
Being able to
eat. Eat food.
The TV
has ten
flavoured...
Go away with the audio.
Sure.
Okay.
Such as salty, sweet, sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and savory.
Someone's going to argue, but savory is not a taste.
Their spray combines to create the flavor of a particular food.
What is this?
My katakana is bad.
I can't remember what that katakana is.
Skinner.
I cannot remember what that katakana is.
Pick your food. the TV could be used
for distance learning by sommeliers
and cooks
oh I love it's so good
I genuinely adore this it's
look I'm not saying this professor shouldn't
be making this I'm not saying
professor shouldn't be making this what I am
saying is it's really dumb
and I love it.
The asteroid
can't come any sooner.
Let me know when they
Let me know when they add a
flashlight holder.
Look, it is Japan.
So
don't be too surprised when that's the first
thing that makes it to the market household pets be like yep sure great for pandemic true
perfecto why do i feel that in a world on fire this may not be the best but a budget research resources. This dude's an engineer.
What's he going to do for the big
roaner?
Is this meant to be...
Is this meant for visually impaired when watching
cooking shows or something more adult?
It's Japan after all.
Well.
Well.
As I said.
The way this is going to make its way to market is uh in the uh in the adult
use case side because that's usually what happens with a lot of technology if there is an adult use
case that is going to be the uh that is going to be the primary one uh coming soon to mcdonald's
near you can't wait for those to replace menus at restaurants.
Super sanitary.
Hey, look.
I'm not saying that this shouldn't exist.
I'm just saying that I'm thinking of fucking getting too old.
I'm 23 and I feel like I'm getting too fucking old for tech.
Man, the tech world is too much.
It's too much.
Man, the tech world is just too much. It's too much isn't it?
Why do we need fucking windows that we can lick?
We don't need that do we?
But they're gonna exist anyway so...
Yeah.
Yup.
If window licking wasn't enough for you, have you ever thought that maybe some people are just too dumb?
Just,
just too dumb.
So here's a fun story.
Um,
Alexa tells child to do potentially deadly TikTok challenge.
Mom claims.
So,
okay, let's, let's, uh, Potentially deadly TikTok challenge mum claims. So, okay.
Let's, let's, basically what happened is the kid was like,
I want to do a challenge.
Asked Alexa and Alexa gave an answer.
Gave a pretty good answer.
So here's something I found on the web.
It suggested per the Twitter screenshot,
according to our community now.com,
the challenge is simple.
Boys.
Challenge is simple.
Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet.
Then touch a penny to the exposed prongs now this would only
work in the u.s uh because the u.s has the worst power plug system known to man uh in the uk this
wouldn't work in australia this wouldn't work actually no sorry in australia it might work
um no no it wouldn't if it wouldn't work for anything that has a ground plug.
Anything that is just a two-pronged one, it will work.
But the UK, it won't work because they've actually got sensible plugs.
The US, though, US, it's fine.
US is going to be like, yo, you want to die?
Well, you can do that.
You don't even need to make a suicide cable.
You just plug a wall outlet in.
Just don't plug it in the entire way.
This,
okay, I shouldn't need to say this.
Do not
do this. This is a
stupid idea and you will
probably die. I am
speaking from personal experience.
I don't think I've talked about the times I've
electrocuted myself on this channel.
But yes, I have electrocuted myself multiple occasions.
So this is referring to the Penny Challenge,
a viral stunt from several years back with the potential to create...
There's no potential here.
It's going to happen.
Damage electrical outlets and even fires.
Die.
You mean die.
What? None of these things matter.
Oh no.
I create some sparks.
Or I start a fire.
Like whatever.
You could die.
Don't do this.
Ironically the article.
That Alexa generated this suggestion from.
Actually cautions parents.
Against letting their children.
Participate in this asinine pastime.
Oh my lord.
According to Amazon, Alexa uses Bing
as the default search engine for all her queries
and the company asks users to help improve answers.
The tech Twitterati found the incident alarming regardless.
I think it's kind of funny actually
why then in the in the love of all that is holy would an organization that should know better
like amazon sell a product that randomly selects content from the mess of the internet
using conversation with any random person at the level of critical thinking ability um
this is how every single one of the the stupid thingies work the digital assistants
this is not a lexa problem another argued is an internet literacy critical thinking problem
whatever uh what do i mean this challenge existed nowhere what do you mean this existed it definitely
existed people died from it probably um there is literally no reason to have an Alexa in your house.
True.
True, though.
What is this?
This is the screenshot of it actually saying it.
Alrighty, then.
Hi, this.
Sorry to hear this.
Please reach out.
This was directly using the following link.
Oh my lord.
So you don't even...
Dara.
Fucking Dara.
Customer trust is at the center.
Blah, blah, blah.
Corporate speak.
Amazon is not the only company.
Michael Priem?
Preem?
Preem.
I'm going to say Preem.
Preem.
I don't know.
Chief Executive of Modern Impact chalked up the phenomenon to the platform's use of models that collect data on our content consumption and peers' influence network.
You mean it uses a search engine.
As specific videos gain
momentum, the algorithm then promotes them
more widely across the platform, he explained.
Hence, the users are intuitively
asking each other to help this go viral.
So let me talk about my electrocution
stories. So,
I am not the
smartest person. I know, crazy crazy you might think i'm super intelligent
coming from my videos actually some people do think i'm smart like why why you why you think
that uh well anyway as a kid i was quite dumb um quite dumb in like the the the real world i'm not
not at school quite dumb in like the the living your real world life sense. So when I was, I think I was like seven or so at the time.
Now, the second one isn't as young and should have known better.
When I was, I think, seven or so, I had a little touch lamp.
If you don't know what a touch lamp is, it's a lamp that you slap and it turns on.
They're cool things. I like them.
lamp that you slap and it turns on. They're cool things, I like them. But at that time, for whatever reason, it didn't have a light globe in the light socket. But for whatever
reason, my mum had left the light turned on. So, I, being a stupid kid, didn't realise
there was no light in there. I thought, like, I tried to touch it and turn it on, I thought
that, oh, maybe, I don't know what I was thinking. I was trying to check if there was a light globe in there.
And I put my finger in, literally into the light socket
and touched the prongs in the light socket.
Obviously, breaker went off and turned the power off in the house.
And, yeah, that was fun.
That was quite fun.
I still remember that situation very vividly.
Do not put your finger into a light socket.
It's not a pleasant experience.
And it's basically the experience you're going to get
from sticking a penny against exposed prongs
because the US has a shitty power prong system
that should have gone away years ago.
And they should have gone with something used by a sensible country.
Anyway, that was the first time I got electrocuted.
Nothing was really done about that.
I believe I just went back to sleep after that.
I went to tell my parents, and they were like,
Oh my god, you got electrocuted? Okay, that's cool.
And then I went to bed.
It wasn't a big deal. I was fine. I didn't die.
Probably should have gone to see a doctor deal. I was fine. I didn't die. Probably should have, you know, gone to see a doctor.
But, like, she were right.
Second time, I was in high school.
I was, I think, 16?
15.
15 or... What was it?
Grade...
I think I was in grade 10.
So, I would have been 15.
Yeah, I was 15 at the time.
Of 15, I was in science class.
I think it was chemistry.
Yes, chemistry class.
So in this chemistry class, we were playing with electronics.
Basically, the idea of that class or that specific lesson is we were building a kettle.
We were looking at how kettles work and all that fun stuff.
So basically, we had these
prongs in the water. They weren't
super high voltage, so if you put your finger in
the water, you wouldn't be electrocuted.
But,
obviously, there was a lot of electricity running
through the wires
themselves.
So, I
didn't, I thought it wasn't working. So, we had
the voltage up to where it needed to be.
It was taking a long time to boil.
And I was like, yo, why is this kettle not working?
To find out if it was, if there was actually electricity going through it,
I put my finger in there and touched...
Sorry, my thumb.
I think it was one of these thumbs.
I think it might have been this thumb.
This thumb on one of these thumbs. I think it might have been this thumb. This thumb on one of the
wires and
got shocked.
Obviously, went home from class
that day. My parents got called
and like, yo, your kids are fucking moron.
He just fucking electrocuted
himself. I was like, I'm good.
I'm happy to go home. That's fine with me.
So if you want to go home from school, electrocute yourself.
Don't do that.
That's not advice you should follow.
Don't actually do that.
But like, it's a good way to get out of school.
So I got electrocuted.
We ended up going to see a doctor.
This doctor gave me a prescription for, I think it was anti-vomiting medication.
Even though I didn't feel like vomiting at all, I was like actually a-okay.
I just had a burn.
If I wanted anything, I wanted some fucking cream for my burn.
It's like, mate, this fucking finger hurts.
Just give me something for that.
I don't care about vomiting.
Go away.
After that, because it was around lunchtime, I believe
my mum then took me to go get some
lunch at McDonald's, and
then I got a haircut. And that was the end of that.
So, I have
multiple experiences of being electrocuted, and both
of them were quite fun. I don't recommend
it.
But yes,
the moral of the story is,
do not put a penny on Mane mains power, because if you do that,
actually, wait, doesn't, what is, is the US, what is the US, is US 240 volt, um,
mains voltage, is it 240, or am I thinking of the, no, okay, I'm thinking of, um,
No, okay, I'm thinking of, um, I'm thinking of, what does Australia use?
Uh, so US is 120, Australia, what does Australia mean as voltage?
230.
Oh yeah, okay, so that's probably also why it was quite bad.
Um, the, uh, the second time we got electrocuted, that was a much lower voltage, because we're going through, like, a, uh, power supply thing, we can control the voltage, but, um, yeah, the, uh, the, the, what's the word, the first time I got electrocuted, that would have been basically 230 volts, uh, into my finger, so, yeah, fun times, fun times, moral of the the story is don't let you treat yourself and uh
don't do tiktok challenges just don't use tiktok that's a good step a good good step to actually
take actually just avoid tiktok entirely and you'll be uh you'll be basically good to go
um speaking of actually in this case i this is actually one of those rare cases where something
good actually comes out of tiktok I don't usually like Logan Paul,
right? Because that's a sensible take to take. Because generally, he's Logan Paul. But sometimes
he does something cool. So the other day, I saw this retweeted by Mudaha. First epoxy resin project, Game Boy Colors and a metal Pokemon frame
made for a nice little tabletop.
This actually is really cool,
and I'm sort of genuinely impressed
by sort of how well he did this.
So basically, he resins up...
Oh, wait, go away.
That's probably... I don't want that.
So basically, he makes up the resin,
pours the resin in the box,
resins up the devices.
I guess the reason why you resin them up separately
is to avoid there being air bubbles, maybe?
I actually don't know the...
I've never done a resin project like this,
so I don't know the reason why you resin them beforehand,
but I imagine it's probably something to do with air bubbles,
but someone correct me if they uh happen to know or maybe it just makes it easy to fit them in the uh
maybe if you like do the resin like you resin them first and then you put them in it gives it
a better effect or something maybe that's it i don't know uh anyway so he resins up the box
puts more resin in there seems to do a really good job like it's
a really really clean resin job i am actually like very impressed by the fact that like he did this
himself he didn't pay someone to do this like this is him actually doing it it looks really cool
i think it actually looks really really really cool here is the end result I personally think it's a great project
I think the frame is shit
and the frame could be so much better
but like the actual
resin project itself
I don't have anything negative to say about it
and because gamer
you gotta put some
lights behind it as well because gamer
I'm an elite gamer so f***ing lights And because gamer, you got to put some lights behind it as well. Because gamer.
I'm an elite gamer, so... Fucking lights.
Anyway.
Anyone sensible would look at this and say,
Hey, look.
That's cool.
Here is some...
Basically, here's some trash.
Because, what?
They're Game Boys.
No one's going to go out of their way to buy a Game Boy.
Unless you're in this very tiny, tiny market who cares about a Game
Boy, so most of these are just gonna
end up being landfill.
I think this is a good project.
That is the sensible take.
Now, the Twitter take is
oh my god, I
cannot believe that you're wasting
a Game Boy. Fucking hell,
you could've only
used all custom shells and button
replacements without any electronics in them
and done that. But destroying
the hardware is just so wrong on so
many freaking levels. I mean, the chance
of some surviving it isn't 0%,
but it isn't close to 100%
either.
It's a fucking Game Boy Color.
It's a Game Boy
Color. Here's the other problem.
118 million units sold.
It's not like getting a Game Boy is difficult.
If you want a Game Boy,
go to Twitter and get a Game Boy.
That is all you need to do.
Like, it's really not difficult uh let's see you could have done something like
they do at the nintendo store but hey you do you baby that actually you know fair take uh fair take
um yesterday there was some better comments in here uh oof, I mean, it looks pretty, but it still hurts.
Are beautiful Game Boys put into
resins like bra? Game Boys
are supposed to be used not only
for collection, but also for playing,
but now they're in resin.
Could probably be better behind a normal glass.
No. No, it
wouldn't be, actually.
It's debatable if these Game Boy colors should have been ruined for this piece.
It's, uh, it's be, be easier to justify if they were broken.
But even if they're not, there are many, there are many gamebook colors out there.
Okay.
You know, okay.
This is actually a good take.
I thought it was going to be a bad take, but no, actually a good take.
Here we go.
This looks decently cool, but part of me is bothered how you just ruined 15 Game Boy Colors.
Some of which were limited edition.
They're not that rare yet, but this sped up the process of 118 million units being made rare.
And you could
have probably made fake Game Boys
that look the same thing when in resin.
Don't even care. This looks amazing.
I love it. Absolutely.
That unfollow
button. Real tempting with this take, bro.
Why? It's a Game Boy
color.
Why people hate it and it looks really cool yeah it does absolutely does like i don't know why anyone would be like yeah
like it's a fucking game boy like why you ain't it's a fucking game boy okay so anyone who wants
to buy a game boy right let's go to e eBay right now and see how much a Game Boy would cost.
Considering this is Australia and you have Australia prices on things.
Game Boy.
So, if you would like to buy a Game Boy.
Let's see.
This is an a Game Boy. Let's see. This is...
No, an actual Game Boy.
Here is someone...
Massive grifter.
$217.
That is not how much you would be paying for it.
Game Boy Color boxed, $130.
Game Boy Color, $60.
Game Boy Color, $81. Game Boy Color, $60. Game Boy Color, $81.
Game Boy Color, $66.
It's not like Game Boy Colors are difficult to get.
Game Boy Color Clear, $33.
Game Boy Color Purple, $100.
There's so many Game Boy Colors out there
that even today, they're not a collector's item. $100. It's a game. There's so many Game Boy colors out there
that Even today, they're not a collector's item. Sure, you can buy it because you like a Game Boy, but it's not like it's not
It's not like you know a difficult game to get or is a difficult console to get it's the same idea as the people
Who scalp copies of like the first Mario game
There are so many copies of it out there the fact that any of them are worth more than like ten dollars
Doesn't make any sense
It doesn't make any sense whatsoever
And the other thing is he owns them
He owns the game boys
He didn't steal them.
He bought them. And it's not like
he was gonna sell them again anyway.
So,
it's, like,
it is what it is. Like,
it's a fucking Game Boy.
If you wanna play a Game Boy game,
like, your phone from 2007
can emulate a Game Boy
perfectly well. Like, actually perfectly. If you wanna play a Game Boy perfectly well.
Like, actually perfectly.
If you want to play any Game Boy games, you can
do them. You don't need hardware,
but if you want hardware, it's not difficult
to get anyway, so it doesn't matter.
And hardware's gonna
break... Like, the hardware
has a limited lifespan anyway,
so
even if they, like, even if he breaks a couple of them,
they're gonna break soon anyway, or break at some point anyway, so, like, what of it?
I hope more people do this, actually. Just to piss off the people who are really, really big
Game Boy fans who think they're this rare thing. There actually was this one comment I saw the other day, like when that first went
up, saying, I've been
looking for a Game Boy for years
and I've never been able to
find one. I've wanted to buy a Game
Boy and then Logan destroyed
15 of them. Just like,
have you ever been to eBay?
Have you ever been to eBay?
They're not rare. You can buy them.
Go to like a thrift store.
Every single thrift store is going to have,
like,
they're going to have some sort of retro hardware there.
And there's probably going to be at least a Game Boy.
At least one of them.
People just wanted a reason to be angry.
And they found it.
But it's going to happen no matter what happens, I guess.
Because people always want to be angry.
Speaking of...
I have a segue.
What do we want to segue into?
Oh, here's one.
So, this is just a short topic. I just want to
mention this that I saw the other day.
So, Cyan retweeted
this.
This is Ravioli.
This is really
cool art. So, this
is a, I guess,
anthropomorphized version of Arch
Linux, and then another version for Debian.
And you know what?
I really like the Arch one.
This is a really, really cute design.
There are a lot of really neat touches to it.
So, obviously, we have the Tux hoodie,
which I think is really, really cool.
And I kind of want one of these, to be honest.
It looks really cool.
There's also the little Pac-Mans here as well.
I didn't notice this the first time I looked at this.
But when I looked at it again, I was like, oh, that's actually really cute, isn't it?
Also, it says pseudo here and system D here.
Then on this side, we have arch,
and I'm not sure what it says over here.
My assumption is it says arch there as well,
but it might say arch in Katakana.
As for the Debian one,
the Debian one is more of like a Ojosama character, or like a...
I don't know, it's sort of like a Ojosama, like a Nersan character, sort of.
I'm not sure where you'd actually put this.
I feel like it'd lean more towards the Ojosama side, though.
Anyway, because the Debian swirl here, there's all these swirly elements in the design.
I think this also works really, really well.
Both of these, I think, are super cool,
but I do prefer the arch one
because I'm a big fan of bob cuts.
The only thing you do to make this better is add glasses,
but now I'm just talking about fetishes.
Also, it has a tail, and tails are cool.
I kind of want to see Ravioli do more of these, though.
I really, really hope that more of these are done,
because these two were really cool.
Like, maybe do one for Ubuntu and Pop OS and all that fun stuff.
I don't know one thing i'm not sure about is if this is inspired by uh inspired by cyan because it very well might be because i know
i know that ravioli does like has spoken to cyan before and there are clearly elements of cyan in
this design as well i I don't know.
Look, I'm not saying that it is inspired by cyan.
I'm just saying it's definitely got some cyan-y stuff in it. Also, I didn't notice this new just now, but the different knee socks,
one of them with the stripes on it and one of them without.
I think that's really cool as well.
Honestly, I just, I really, really like this art. Like, this is actually really, really's really cool as well. Honestly, I just really, really like this art.
This is actually really, really, really
cool.
So I want more of it. Ravioli, if you see
this, make more.
Make more, please.
I would really like more
because you've
done clearly
very good art. Like this,
this is really cool. I love good art. Like this.
This is really cool.
I love this art.
Also, I didn't notice this before, but there's the Pac-Man here as well.
Oh, signs on break.
Cool.
Anyway, I've now followed this artist and I'm going to find more.
I love this. Just some beginner artist.
Just some
beginner artist.
Beginner artist.
Yup. Yup.
Mate, I'm just
a beginner Linux user. I've never
used Linux before. Don't even
know what a terminal
is.
Yeah, I guess if you haven't been doing art is. Yeah, I guess
if you haven't been doing art for 20
years, I guess if that's your standard,
sure, you can be a beginner artist.
But look, I
don't think you're a beginner
artist. I think you're
really
you're really, what's the
word? I guess
being overly modest.
Overly modest in saying that you're a beginner.
But I guess if you are sort of talking about how great you are at something,
maybe you aren't actually as great as you think you are.
You know what?
I'll give you that.
Sure.
Anyway, because we are on the topic of anime and stuff,
a while back, like a year or so back
I started watching Naruto
And I just never got around to finishing it
Because I got busy with
I think I was busy with uni at the time
And I was busy with work
And busy with lots of stuff
I was doing the channel at the time alongside uni
So lots of stuff going on
And I just never got around
I think I finished the Chunin exam But i just never got around i think i think i finished the tuning exam
but i just never got around to watching past that but in the past couple of days i restarted naruto
because i do want to watch all of it like i do think it's really fun i'm now start basically just after Kakashi does the
the test
to decide if
Naruto, Sasuke
and Sakura are going to actually be allowed
to be ninjas or if he was going to fail them
just finished that episode
and now I guess
they would be going, if I remember correctly from when I
watched it before, they'd be going onto their first mission
now, I think so I think'd be going on to their first mission now.
I think so.
I think maybe they're doing like their first basic mission or something like that.
But I could be mistaken about that.
Either way, I think Naruto was fun.
Like, sure, it is peak shounen trash.
But I also just like shounen trash
like I've said before I love
my isekai garbage, I love my
shounen garbage, I love my idol
garbage and I'm just gonna
keep enjoying it. Going into the
next season of anime though I'm probably
gonna be watching a lot less
than I have been in a lot of
seasons because I feel like
I feel like I've just I've been in a lot of seasons, because I feel like, I feel like I've just, I've been
watching too much, I know, it feels like, it sort of feels like, um, sort of, I'm watching stuff
for the sake of watching anime, not actually enjoying a lot of it I'm watching, uh, I've
sort of cut back in last
season but I'm probably gonna cut back again. I haven't decided on what I'm
actually gonna be watching though but I do know obviously some what I'm watching
like obviously Shingeki, keep watching Komitsu no Yaiba, Arifureta, Maybe I'll watch the second season of this.
Definitely watching the second season of that.
I haven't actually watched the first season of Princess Connect yet.
So I'll get around to that one.
Takeki-san, I really enjoy.
I don't think I've seen...
Have I seen season two yet?
I don't remember.
seen have i seen season two yet i don't remember um and i'll sort of i'll sort of play it by ear what else i'm gonna watch uh i haven't i'm probably gonna try to keep it under like maybe
i don't know i think i kept it under like 25 last season which still sounds like a lot for most people but previously i watched like
everything that aired like everything with the exception of like male harems that's and like
male idol shows but everything else like i just watched um so i'm probably gonna keep it closer
to maybe like 10 or 15 this time, uh, because I, I like
having time to do things that are not watching anime, and I don't want, I don't want, I don't,
I don't want watching anime to feel like it's, it's work, like, that's my problem, I've been
watching too much, and it's like, if I don't watch stuff for a couple of days, then there's like,
much and it's like if i don't watch stuff for a couple of days then there's like a massive backlog to watch and this break between seasons is kind of nice because it means there's no there's like
there's nothing to catch up on like that's my problem the thing i i like about seasonals is
there's like there's people around you who are watching them and you can all chat about like
what happened in the latest episode but when it's too much, when it's too many seasonals,
it becomes a little bit overwhelming,
and you can't really enjoy the content in the same way
that you would have been before.
It was fine when I was back in high school
and didn't have anything to do,
but nowadays, obviously, it's very different.
And I actually do have things that I do.
Plus, I like playing Final Fantasy.
Yeah.
Look, I'm not going to lie and say that I would like more Final Fantasy time
if I could get it without eating into you know the
things that I'm already doing but there was only so much time in the day and sure I probably could
use some of that time to do more productive things like working on the channel and stuff but like I
could also not like I enjoy the state the channel's currently in, and I don't think, besides maybe sort of putting more effort into the...
Putting more effort into...
What's the word?
Into the editing and the production,
that...
I need more time to spend on stuff
sorry I just saw a comment from someone
saying please stop covering
drama
I'm covering tech news
this was about the
the stream lab situation
I actually was going to cover this
earlier but I just didn't get around to doing so.
Streamlabs, or I guess their parent company,
Logitech, basically just paid OBS
to make the problem go away.
Make the whole, hey, look,
we sort of tried to trademark your name
and we've been using your name
without really having your permission
and we've never really committed back up upstream
Just make that go away by donating about bit over $50,000 a year and it seems like you know what?
It's gonna work
So no, I'm not gonna stop doing that. I'm going to cover the things I want to cover so uh
Yeah, I'm gonna reply right now. I cover the things I
Find interesting There we go Yeah. I'm going to reply right now. I cover the things I find interesting.
There we go.
You don't like it?
Well, I don't watch the channel.
That's fine.
I don't care.
Other people seem to enjoy the content.
So I do the things.
I make the videos I want to make. And if you don't like that, well, good thing that there's other channels out there and you can watch whatever you want.
And if I find like this, that you know,
this is not really working for what I'm doing and I don't really enjoy covering this, then I won't do it.
But as it stands, I think that things like this need more attention. so I'm going to give them more attention.
Yeah.
I actually did have some Final Fantasy topics
that I wanted to mention,
but it just didn't happen
because we are now basically at the end of the show
and I just forgot to mention them.
So I'll just briefly go over them.
I think it's gone live by now.
So on Christmas Eve
there was a
concert. There was a concert
in Limsa Liminsa.
I believe the group was called Heaven's
Bard. It was a group of
all Lalafell.
There was a big group of Lalafell
and they were playing various songs.
They played, like, the End...
I think they ended off the session I stayed there for
with the Endwalker theme, which was...
Mate, I love the Endwalker theme.
But I recorded that one, and, hey, sure,
there are probably better things I could do on Christmas Eve
besides watching a band of Lalafell playing random music.
Or I could just do that and just stay at home and just enjoy it.
I think that was the first full-on concert I saw in Final Fantasy.
Like, I've seen sort of individual bards, you know, playing,
hey, look, here's the Kimetsu no Yaiba opening.
Here's Sword Art Online.
Here's random other music.
Like, I've seen individual bards doing it.
But having an entire band of bards playing music
is a very different experience.
And if you ever get an opportunity to just sit around
and watch a concert in Final Fantasy,
I really recommend it.
Just stick around there for 10-15 minutes, and then you'll realize it's been an hour,
and you're like, wait, I was going to play this game today.
That's sort of what happened.
I was like, I'm going to play this game.
I'm going to work on leveling my...
I think I was doing my Black Mage at the time, and then I didn't.
I just saw this concert, and I just stood there for like half an hour or so like what am I doing with my life right now?
Like I'm playing a game and I'm just straight-up not playing
But that's why Final Fantasy is great because there are these just there are so many fun player events like that
We like I don't actually need to play the game if I don't want to. I can just enjoy being in this world. And that's what makes the game, I think that's part
of what makes the game so great for me. It's why I've really, really been enjoying it. Besides that,
I also have been now, I've got my Black Mage to 50.
I'm really still, I'm actually sort of, I still do my Judy Relettes and stuff like that as my Paladin.
Just because, you know, better benefits as a Paladin.
Especially if you're trying to get things like your Grand Company Seals.
But for just generally running around the world, I'm actually enjoying playing a Black Mage.
I really am.
But for just generally running around the world,
I'm actually enjoying playing a Black Mage.
I really am.
Obviously, I'm still going to try out my physical DPS and my ranged DPS and also healer at some point.
But I'm still really enjoying the Black Mage.
I like the...
Look, as much as Paladin and much as tank is fun,
I totally get the DPS thing.
Like, DPS is a more complex job.
It's more complex when it comes to how you do your rotations.
Obviously, Paladin, you have to worry about positioning
and making sure your team doesn't die.
But when it comes to your rotations,
at least a level 50 or, uh, my highest
level content is 50, I, I have, like, further stuff unlocked, I'm at, like, 63 on the paladin,
um, but in dungeons, the rotation at 50 isn't really that complex for a paladin, it's,
you do your, your fucking, what's it called? Your riot, is it riot blade?
Is that the starting attack?
FF14 Paladin.
I should know this.
I just hit the buttons.
I know what the buttons do.
I don't know what the buttons, I don't, I know what the buttons do and I know what the abilities are.
I just don't know what the attacks are called.
So you do your fast blade, your riot blade, and then your rage of, rage of Halon I guess is how you say that and then you just repeat that
you just keep doing that and then sometimes you'll get your
uh, when you get
your fight or flight
you pop that and then straight away
you pop a circle of scorn
and that's pretty much how it goes
sometimes there are groups of enemies
also your spirits within
sometimes there are groups of enemies and then you just your spirits within. Sometimes there are groups of enemies, and then
you just go back and forth between
Total Eclipse and
Prominence, and you just do that.
And then you win. That's pretty much what you
do.
Yeah.
Obviously, it seems like there's more
a bit later, like at
54, you get Goring Blade.
At 58, you get Clemency.
But because I don't have content at that level,
like I can't...
Oh, so it's a job quest.
So I can't get it anyway,
because to do the job quest for Heaven's Ward,
you need to be in Heaven's Ward.
And I'm not in Heaven's Ward.
I'm at 2.1.
But what I was going to get to there is I've now actually
also been working on my crafters
and gatherers
I've got my
I think my goldsmith is at like 44
now
I think my miner is at
like 41 or 42
or so
the only
I haven't actually
even started all of the crafters and gatherers
I haven't started culinarian
I haven't started
um
the plant one
um
I can't remember what they're called
FFXIV craft probably because I don't play them, that called. FFXIV, Craft...
Probably because I don't play them.
That's why.
Crafters, Gatherers.
Let's see.
Gathering.
Botanist.
Botanist, Fisher, and Miner.
I haven't worked on Fisher in a while,
but I do actually enjoy fishing.
And Crafters, I haven't started the the i haven't started actually a lot of them
i haven't started the armorer the blacksmith the culinarian or the weaver um
so i look if i want to work on those that'll take quite a while to do so
So, look, if I want to work on those, that'll take quite a while to do so.
But I do enjoy the crafting and gathering jobs.
The only problem with the crafters is crafting is quite expensive,
especially at low levels where no one wants your shit.
Gathering, you know, people, obviously, if you're doing gathering,
the crafters who are leveling are going to want your low-level crafting gear. So going to want that but like it's not the same in reverse no one's going onto the uh onto the
market board buying like level 20 jewelry at least for the most part because you don't need it jewelry
doesn't matter at that level uh so it really just doesn't get sold and there's just not many people
trying to sell it obviously be different if you're doing like current expansion content uh or just actually
really any of the expansions after after realm reborn because then gear does actually matter
between uh those levels because you can't just easily buy it from the shops as at least as easily
as you could back in Realm Reborn.
So crafting is burning money,
so I sort of have to do more gathering to get myself a bit more gear.
But yeah, I should try out botanist because I'm pretty sure botanist is just going to be minor,
but with an axe instead.
That seems to basically be what it is. Like it's just a minor, but with an axe instead. That seems to basically be what it is. Like it's just a miner but with an axe.
Also, and I think that's how you get flowers as well, presumably.
So I'll check that at some point and I'll let you guys know what I think about it.
I don't know what it is about like the gathering jobs though that I enjoy.
I think it's just the fact that I don't have to play the game.
Like I don't know, I feel like gathering jobs in every game that I play is always fun. Like Stardew Valley, for example,
I have literally spent entire, like, entire real world days just fishing in Stardew Valley. And I
don't know why. Because fishing isn't the best money-making stride. I'm just like, I just like
fishing. So if the game is fishing, I'm going to do fishing. If a game has fishing, it by default gets extra points in my review.
Hades has fishing, better game. FFXIV has fishing, better game. Stardew Valley, fishing,
better game. If your game has fishing, it is inherently better than it otherwise would have been.
Even if the fish mechanics are not very good.
Just having fishing there is just by default good.
Anyway, that's the end of the podcast.
Let me just check my things.
So that's 40 minutes.
And that's also...
Wait, no, we still have like 10 minutes.
Oh.
I said we're going to end it.
So we're going to end it 10 minutes early.
Unless there's anything here I want to desperately mention.
No.
I think that's everything, actually.
I think I actually hit everything.
Wow.
I think because I knew I was basically near the end that I just rolled stuff out.
Anyway, we're going to end 10 minutes early and I'm
going to go do something.
Probably just get
this rendered
out of the MKV format.
Also out of the individual clips.
And
yeah.
I've got work later.
Enjoy that.
It's work.
Anyway.
Thank you guys for watching.

If you want to watch the video version and you're listening to the audio,
that is available on Odyssey and the YouTubes. I said I was going to upload the video version to Spotify,
and then I forgot to.
So that will be there at some point when I get around to doing that.
It's not going to be for the legacy episodes,
just for the new ones going forward when I remember to actually do that.
If you want to go to my main channel, where I do Linux content,
and apparently just only cover drama, according to this person,
that is Brady Robertson.
I upload six days a week, Monday to Friday,
skip Saturday, that is a live stream day usually,
and then Sunday.
And then I've got a gaming channel called Brady Robertson Plays
where I've been sort of inactive for a while
because I haven't been streaming.
But I will be streaming now
and we're going to be finishing off Bloodborne,
probably not anytime soon, but finishing off Kingdom streaming now and we're going to be finishing off Bloodborne. Probably not anytime soon.
Uh, but finishing off Kingdom Hearts Reach and Memories.
That is our next game that is on like the, the nearing the end.
So that'll be done soon.
And then I'll replace that with, I believe Hollow Knight we're going with,
which is going to be a lot of fun.
Uh, maybe I'll throw in some Final Fantasy streams here and then.
Uh, no promises because I like Final Fantasy
off stream but I like it on stream as well
it's fun either way
and yeah
hello what are you doing
you gonna ruin my ending
do you wanna go outside
hi
what do you want Chase
you gonna meow for the camera
meow
you're meowing all day and you don't want to do it
nah okay well I'm gonna end it there
thank you guys for watching
this has been episode 96
the first podcast of
2022
and yeah next week I'll actually record the first one
that I'm actually recording
in 2022. And now you're actually going to get on my lap.
Cool. So after I'm done with the show
you're going to get up here. Cool.
Ow, ow, hello. You're adorable.
You're adorable and you're really annoying.
But mostly really annoying.
Anyway, I'm going to go. See you guys later.
