Good morning, good day, and good evening. I'm as well as your host, Rudy Robertson, and today, I have made some very minor modifications to my EQ on my mic. If you're watching on a phone, if you're watching through bad speakers, you probably won't hear it. Frankly, you probably won't hear it on good speakers, but if you do notice the difference, let me know. I'm not exactly the audio expert. I'm just doing something that sounded good to me and is a general recommendation. So, yeah.

Anyway, moving on for that one. We're going to spend time on that because I don't have shit to say about audio besides I bought a Shore SM7B because everyone else buys a Shore SM7B. That's pretty much the reason why I have one. Also, there's a lot of space to, you know, put stupid sticks on it. Anyway, moving on from that one, as I said,

we're not going to spend too much time in that one. Something you are going to spend a bit more time on, though, is right now we're in a pretty good state if you care about Linux gaming. So, obviously, we've had Proton for a long time. Before that, we had the original steam machines. After Proton, we got the Steam deck. Now we have the Steam machines. Obviously, there's not a problem with the machines. It's just they exist in a terrible market.

But when it comes to game clients, the only one... Okay, the only general client. Yeah, I don't think any of the others. The only general clients are a client that is for more than just like a single game or like a single company. The only one we currently have on Linux is Steam. Now, there is unofficial support for the others. So if you want to do epic games, for example, or GOG, a lot of people make use of the heroic games launcher. And to the best of my knowledge, it's a great project.

I don't really use it that often because I don't really play games on either of those platforms. But traditionally, they have not had support on Linux. Now, I say general platforms because obviously we have various individual launches, right? Like the Minecraft launch is officially supported on Linux, even though a lot of people do use a third-party launcher. I believe OSRS, old school RuneScape, is going to officially support Linux. Again, even though we were using third party launches anyway, so it's not like you actually need it to be there. But I do care about the official support because having official support means that the company actually cares about the platform. It's not, oh, you know, we're not going to stop you.

You can play the games on Linux if you want to. But if you have official support, that means at the very least, they are willing to put engineer effort towards it. And if they're willing to put engineer effort towards it, at the very least, they put some level of value in the platform, if nothing else, just so they have a present in case something happens. So you might recall from the other week that GOG Galaxy is coming to Linux. Now, the thing about that, where is the gaming on Linux? There it is. Here it. So, this one is from last month.

they announced their work on a client. Now, the reason why I don't put too much stock in this one is they did announce their work on a client also about a decade ago. That client never came out. I believe it was with the original GOG Galaxy. Then when Galaxy 2.0 came out, they dropped the plan or dropped any mention of it. Now with the new old owner, so the co-founder of the company, re-bought the company as now the owner of the company, the whole mess there. Now with that, he basically said, I care about Linux. I'm going to bring it over to Linux now.

When that's going to happen, we don't know, we've not seen any screenshots, any sort of indication of it running or anything else like that. So, again, we will see if and when that happens. However, there is another platform that also appears to be working on support, the Epic Game Store. So, it says confirmed. My understanding is this was just a message from an engineer on Discord. Is there something I missed here? I think it might just be people. over-exaggerating.

That's what I'm seeing. It confirmed according to that article that is linking to the tweet. Not very useful. According to PC Guide, what is PC Guide's source for this? Oh, it's... Yeah, okay. Okay, so once again, it's not actually officially confirmed. It is one engineer on the official Discord.

that said they are working on it. Okay. So, again, people are just taking it to mean more than what is actually said. We've not seen any press release, any demo of it running. Right now, this is the entirety of the source. It is, it's a post on the Discord. But they haven't pushed back on that. Now, the interesting thing here is, I was going to say Tim Apple.

No, that's, no, wrong Tim. Tim Sweeney. Tim Sweeney, that's the one, that's the epic guy, Tim Epic. Tim Sweeney. That's Epic. Yes, that is Tim Epic. Okay, okay. Tim, we're just going to call him Tim Epic. Tim Epic has said on many, many occasions that

Fortnite is not coming to Linux. And that's been basically because the way the Antichite works on Linux, it works in user space, it really easy to circumvent. But it would be very weird if Epic Games came to, like the Epic Game Store came to Linux, and your premier game, like your tech demo, the game that is Epic Games, did not also come to Linux. Now, again, there has been no confirmation of this, no statement about this. Tim Sweeney, Tim Epicus said absolutely nothing about this.

just scroll through his Twitter, and you'll see absolutely nothing in regards to this. But it would be very weird. Now, would I play Fortnite if it was on Linux? No, no, I don't give you sure of Fortnite. When Fortnite became popular, I already was on Linux. I've never played a game of Fortnite. I'd probably be terrible at Fortnite because I am not a 13-year-old that is about to OD on Adderall. So it's not exactly a game for me.

However, it would be very nice to see because this is one of those, this is one of those major blockers that some people have, right? There are some things where, you know, there are needs and there are wants. And sometimes the overlap between them is kind of loose. And for a lot of people, the want of having a certain game, a certain piece of software, is greater than the want of your own. using Linux. Some of those wants being things like the Adobe Suite, right? For a lot of people, Adobe Suite is a want. If Adobe is used in your job, obviously, that's a need unless you,

you know, changed another job. For a lot of people, it's something like a certain video game, they play Valorant, they play Fortnite, they play League, they play, I'm pretty sure the latest Battlefield, doesn't support Linux. Corrections for wrong there, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. What is, you know, let's just check. Latest Battlefield, because I, I feel like EA explicitly blocked it with Battlefield 6 or with their new anti-cheat. Battle for 6 on Linux cannot be played. Okay, cool, I was right about that one. When they changed over to, yeah, EA Javelin, they ended up not supporting Linux.

With their old anti-cheat system, which I think, I feel like they were on Battlelight before. Um, what anti-cheat did EA use before javelin? Um, uh, EAC,

EAC or punk buster mostly. Um, yeah, okay, okay. Either way, um, if you are like a,

if you're like a, a one-game Andy, right? You play Valoran, you play Battlefield, you play whatever your one game happens to be. If that's your only game, like going from Windows to Linux means no game. Now, you could say, oh, you could have a second machine, or you could dual boot, or you could play on console, and yeah, all these things are valid. But is the value of swapping over to Linux view worth going through that hope. And for a lot of people,

frankly, it isn't. So they end up staying on Windows. Fortnite would be another major... Oh, Roblox now is another one. I believe Roblox nowadays, you can't play on Monarchs. Maybe you can still do the Android version. Either way. I'm going to distract it by examples.

Fortnite is a really popular game. Fortnite is a really hoplar game. That's my point here. And if you have Fortnite on Linux, if you can play Fortnite on Steam Deck, on just, you know, preferably not just on the Steam Deck, but on Linux in general, then that would be another reason just crossed off the list. That would be another one of those points.

I can't play Fortnite. And here's the thing about if Epic Games does come to Linux. That is another company to the saying, we're okay to support Linux. And that might by itself not be a, you know, a major deal. But every single slight movement gets the ball rolling. And eventually you hit this point where it's no longer about companies saying, do we want to support Linux?

It's, we're going to support Linux how many people are on the platform. Right now we're still in those early stages, but companies have to actively say, we're going to do this because we think there is a platform here. When the platform is there, there's no more thought. It's just, this is the thing you do, how valuable is the platform, how much support is it going to get? Do I think we're ever going to get to that point? I don't know.

I legitimately don't know because I didn't think we'd get to the point where we are now. We're at a point now where, you know, you can play most games natively on Linux. Yes, obviously your anti-cheat stuff is a problem, but, Outside of that, like, I don't even, like, I just buy a video game and it just works now. I don't know the last time that I bought a game and it was just unplayable. Outside of games that I bought that were just unplayable on PC in general. I think the last... What was the last?

You know, I don't even think I've had to return a game. because of Linux. Like any game that I was interested in, I don't buy games in launch, right? I don't like paying full price for a game. So usually by the time I buy a game, all those problems that dealt with. There were been games that I wanted to play,

which had problems at launch. Pesona 5 Royal, for example, where it had one of DeNUvo, one of the big, one of the big bullshit DRM systems, and it had a problem where the game would crash on launch, The problem with DeNovo and Proton is different proton versions are treated as different installs of Linux. And DeNivo counts the number of PCs the software is installed on.

This is a major problem the Nuvo has that they need to resolve. And I kind of wish that that problem got resolved because testing Proton versions with the new games is a fucking nightmare. Because it would like, oh, well, you can't play your stuff. single-player game you bought because De Nouveau Fuck you! Fuck you De Nouveau!

Well, people have You know, oh, it's always funny with DeNovo. A new version will come out, they're like, this is uncrackable, this is unbreakable, all games that use DeNovo and now are protected, and then like six months later, someone cracks it. I think

De Nouveau, there was a thing I heard about recently, De Nouveau cracked again. Yeah, like three months ago, the latest version, as of that point, had been cracked again. Every time we have this new denouvo

that comes out, and it's unbreakable, it gets cracked because it's software and eventually, especially if you start talking about how powerful it is, how unbreakable it is, that's a challenge. That's just a challenge for people that have nothing better to do with their time.

So that game had problems on launch. If you tried to change stuff too much, it would eventually lock you out of the game, which made testing it a little bit annoying. Eventually, these problems got dealt with, and then, you know, it's mostly just been fun. To my understanding, let's find out right now. P5 Royal Proton DB.

I'm going to guess it's like a gold. What does it got? What do we working with? We are on a platinum. Yeah, okay. So it was literally unplayable launch. and now it's platinum. I don't know what the problem was.

I think it was some like rendering issue, something like that. But the other thing about when we have problems like that, every time one of those problems gets dealt with, it's one less game in the future that is going to have that same problem. I think for all the,

for the Horizon 6 also had some issues. Granted, I haven't played that. There's too many games that I'd be interested in playing and then I go play a J-Lyrox. LPG or I play Monsduntle Wild and then you don't see me for a couple of months. Uh, yeah. Um, so whilst I might be excited to play some of these games, I don't end up getting to some of them. But, but, but every time we get a new handheld, every time we get a new

company that is shipping Linux out of the box, every time I get a new game launcher natively supporting Linux, even if, you know, not a lot of games on the platform support Linux or, you know, maybe not all of them even work properly in Proton. It's one more step along that path. It is one more step along that path to the point where eventually it's not even a question where you can just install Linux,

you can just install Windows, and pretty much you'll just be good. I believe Epic also Epic hired anti-cheat Dev Linux. They're also working, two months ago, they're working on better Linux support for Epic. Now obviously, their anti-Gate system already supports Linux. Like, they could enable it if they wanted to with their own games.

This is more about general other people. However, however, it would be nice, it would be nice if we got more support on Linux. We'll have to wait and see. I don't know. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't. If it doesn't, eventually Fortnite dies, people move on to another game. And hopefully that game doesn't have a crazy anti-cheat. And, you know, you don't have to worry about it.

Speaking of anti-cheat, though, I didn't realize this was even a thing. Over on gaming on Linux, they do have a... I can't do that. I keep forgetting that I've got to have it like this. Right now, I've got the window taking up half the screen because of the way my overlay works. If I do this, it does that. If I full screen it, like, yeah.

Anyway, anyway. There is a site called Are We Antichite Yet? Apparently that site is pretty outdated. That's what people were saying. Are we anti-cheet yet? That's what I heard people were saying. So there is a new list being worked on over on gaming on Linux. of these are a bad resource, I feel like it's worth highlighting both of them. So check them

both out. This one I just heard about recently, so if there's anything that you might be interested in, be sure to check this one out. A lot of games, you know, we're in a state where things are... things are better than they could be, but it would be nice if they were just in general, better. Right? Some games do require a new version of the Proton, which is fine, except if you're playing Path of Exile,

where Proton 11 changed the way copying, I think the way your clipboard worked, which means that you can't use always P-O-E-Trademil, which is annoying. So you've got to play with a slightly old version. Either way, either way. If you're curious about games that work and don't work, check this out, and yeah, yeah.

All of the, all of the, battlewood games that changed over to javelin. Oh, Punkbuster also didn't work. So I guess it would have been EAC that worked. Playable if you manually update Punkbuster, what the fuck? Okay. What? Okay. Sure. Sure. Righto. I actually didn't even know that Modern Call of Duty didn't even work on Linux. I don't care about it because I don't care about modern Caller Duty. Um, last cot I played was Black Ops 2. And that's not going to change, uh, anytime soon.

I have, I, I, I've no interest in getting into any sort of semi-competitive multiplayer game at this point. Two reasons. One, I haven't played them for a long time, so I'm terrible. And two, the people that do play them now, again, like Fortnite, are about to OD on Adderall and play these games in a way. that is fucking ludicrous. If you've not looked at like modern shooter gameplay and just movement, like people are describing a lot of these modern shooters as like movement slop, where it's no longer about are you quick to aim?

It's how fucking weird and broken can you abuse the movement system and do things that are just no one, like if you were to go back to like when I played shooters, if you saw someone doing that. Everyone, like, everyone would gang up on this person, be like, no, no. We're not, we're not doing that here. Now it's just the standard. Now, now the, like, the skill ceiling is so high for a lot of these games that I, I have zero interest in getting back into them. And if I wanted to get back into them, the amount of time I'd have to put into them to be able to have any sort of fun with it. Like, I just cannot justify it.

The same reason why I stopped playing Marvel rivals, every time a new shooter comes out where people don't know the game, it is a lot of fun because everyone's a moron. And, you know, I'm a moron, so I can fit in just fine. But when you start getting people sort of digging deep into meta systems and how to abuse different systems and all the understanding how combos work, over time people start getting much better than I do and I don't have the time to invest in that

so I just I bounce and I go play something else because you know I don't got time for that I want to go play other things I don't want to be a one game Andy and I don't have the time to spend 10 hours a day perfecting my

I don't know Valorant gameplay or fucking BlackOps 7 gameplay or whatever it happens to be. And even if I did have 10 hours a day to do that, I'd much rather go play literally anything else. Granted, if I had 10 hours the day to do that, I also probably wouldn't even play

games, like the entire time anyway. It's got into a point now where I have other things I want to do as well. Like for a long time, gaming was the one thing I wanted to sit down and do. Then I got other hobbies. Then I actually enjoyed going out. Then I actually, you know,

you make friends. I don't know. crazy thing and it's like, I enjoy gaming. It's just, I like these other things as well, and I'd like to spend time on those as well and not just on this singular one thing. However, however, sometimes there are singular one things I do care about. So, so, so, so, Kingdom Hearts. I don't know if you guys saw the trailer or the extended trailer at D23, but after that came out, Kingdom Hearts on Steam became a top seller in the US. I don't know where it is at right now. Was it a top seller in Australia? Top seller Steam. What is on there? What is on the top sellers right now?

Top sellers by revenue, this is set to US, and it is number five right now under Why is mortal show? Are people that excited that mortal show too? I did not realize that. If you've never played Kingdom Hearts and you want to play Kingdom Hearts because of Kingdom Hearts 4, it's 30 US dollars to buy the entire franchise. I'm excited for Kingdom Hearts 4. I really am excited for Kingdom Hearts 4. I am, let's say, slightly wary about it. Like, we're going to do a Kingdom Hearts 4 be right here. For anyone who doesn't care of the gaming stuff. So if anyone hasn't seen the trailer, it was mostly a Disney World focus. In Kingdom Hearts 4, we're going to have the Cocoa. World, which is, I don't know, some movie about the Mexican afterlife.

What year to come up? 2017, yeah. Also, they announced Cocoa 2 for anyone who cares about that. It looks like it's good movie. People say it's good movie, so, sure, good movie, whatever. But besides that, there was a lot of fun little confirmations in the trailer, along with some little law implications going. on. So people were not really sure who, they were mostly sure, but not fully confirmed on who

some of the unnamed characters appeared to be. We now know 100% they're from the mobile game, 100% confirmed, Sigurd is in the game, Vali is in the game, there was another one that I'm blanking on the name. Is there another one blanking on the name? No, no? No, Siggin and Vali. Yeah, those are ones people weren't sure about. The combat, we haven't really seen enough of the combat to really comment on it. The little bit that I have seen,

it looks like Kingdom Hearts 3, which, look, that's honestly one of my main concerns that Kingdom Hearts 3 was a mind-nummingly easy game until the Remind DLC. Because basically every encounter

was spam the biggest AOE you have and everything dies. Because rather than what Kingdom Hearts 2 did, DDD, basically every other Kingdom Hearts game did, which is generally small encounters, unless it was tons of heartless, in which case then you had like really weak heartless. But generally smaller sighting, uh, smaller encounters focused on enemies that you actually had to like somewhat care about. three, it just threw like 30 guys at you and you're like, I don't care about any of your mechanics, I guess unless you're on critical mode, then even so you don't really care about them, just spam thunder, or spam shot locks. I hope that there is more of a focus on smaller scale, big and scary. Like that is more fun to me personally than every encounter spam the biggest AOE. you have. And like, it's fine if there's that from time to time, right? A thousand heartless in Kingdom Hearts 2 was really cool because it was a one-off thing. It was like thousand heartless

at once. Now, technically it wasn't actually a thousand heartless. It was like 15 and then they used some fancy PS2 tricks to make it seem like there's a thousand. Basically, there's like a, there was like a radius around you. Let me just show you. KH2,000, Heartless. Here we go. Where's a shot of Sora actually being surrounded? You know what this actually works perfectly? So, all of these...

Maybe it's like three or four, actually. This heartless here, this heartless here, this heartless here. There's like probably one or two over this side. They're the only real heartless initially. All of these back here, they're just... they're just they're just P&Gs. Like, I think

they might be 3D models. I actually don't remember. Um, but none of them actually have any AI attached to them. They just stand there and just repeat their idle animation. This was a real. Also, I'm pretty sure it culls everything as well.

You know, normal optimization stuff. But this was a fight which was so insanely impressive. because you would never see anything to this scale on the PS2. The problem is when everything is this scale, I guess there's nothing at the same scale. There's nothing like a thousand heartless, but like 50 at a time wasn't uncommon.

It's like that stops having any meaning when you just have it over and over and over again. Where three did things best was in those either small scale fight or better yet, the solo fights. And this is why the Remind D.L.C. was so popular because Kingdom Hearts 3, like, the combat worked in like a small scale. It just, like, because it worked so well on the small scale, I don't think they had any idea what they were doing with the large scale. That's my overarching point there. But I'm curious about a lot of various

details. So there were some things when I saw the trailer, although I didn't actually know about, that I've been made aware of afterwards. So, one of the things Sora mentioned was something about the dandelions. I didn't know this. Apparently, this is a group from the mobile games. Basically, they are people that go fight the darkness. That's the TLDR.

I didn't know this. So now we know that Sora is a member. of this. However, we also know that all of the characters we've seen have had like some correlation to it. Strelatia was like a member and then Sigurd and Vali various adjacent sort of things. I don't know what Kingdom Hearts for is going to be because there's a lot of interesting systems they've not done before. Like playable Donald and Goofy and yes, I know

you can play as Donald and Goofy in mission mode in days. Sure. Outside of Day's mission mode. I don't... Did you... Did you have to unlock them? I don't remember.

K.H. Days Donald. Donald Mission mode. Yeah, see, okay, unlockable character. Donald, playing as the Donald. Secret character equipped with various... Unlock him, one must play story mode up to day 225.

Oh, okay, that's not exactly a secret. You just play the game. Yeah, okay. And Goofio Unlocked by Game. getting to day 296. Again, not a secret if you just get it by playing the game. Mickey, yeah, okay, Mickey you have to get a certain item. Sora you're secret. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Oh, you just buy the item. Okay. Again, not really super secret, but I guess I'll give you, I will give you that one. Outside of that, um,

Donald and Goofy have never... Have they ever been playable in any other form? The mouse has been playable. I don't think you've ever been out of play as Donald and Goofy outside of Day's mission mode. I'm curious to see what that is like because they didn't just do the thing that they did with H2 Ricou playable section.

So the Riku playable section at the end of the game, of course I can't find a picture. of it, um, had like a custom menu. A custom menu that was just like specifically for that one bit. Then in three, I guess obviously you did have a lot, the whole, um, uh, I don't, was, I don't know the section was called in, in chain of memories. Um, but there was the Rikyu section in Chained of Mories, then DDD, then three also has a bit of Riku playable as well. But my, my point being in Kingdom Hearts 2 where you play as Rikyu,

there's a custom menu. With four, Donald and Goofy have the regular menu and Goofy even has like a separate skill menu that is not a thing that Donald and Sora have because Goofy doesn't use magic, so he has skills, which means are they just going to abandon this

later in the game? Have they made this entire playable, playable Donovan and Goofy section and then just going to fully abandon that later on? Are they going to use it in some form like a secret mission, a secret play-through-through-the-game again as Donald and Goofy, which I guess could be neat. Maybe they learn from all the modders from the earlier games that they actually, people really want to play as the other characters.

We did see Riku in the trailer as well, and I don't know, are we going to do a thing where maybe you get to play as Riku? Some people are speculating with the whole Dandelion thing. Maybe you're actually going to be out of players the other members of the Dandelion. Maybe you're gonna get to play as Trilicia, maybe you're gonna get to play as Vali and Sigurd. We don't really know. Like, that was our presumption, because Sora did die at the end of three. But we don't know what dying in Kingdom Hearts actually means. Because no one's actually died. Like, there, okay, there have been people who have lost their heart. There have been people who have been injured. They're, like, all of these things have happened. But dying in Kingdom Hearts is, from what we can tell, like, a different thing, probably.

Then there's a matter of, there was a scene in the trailer where if you play DDD, there's a concept known as dropping. So, Saur in that game is in the sleeping worlds, which are like, worlds that are, let me fucking double check what it was. Is it worlds that have fallen to darkness? Is that the correct term? Yes, okay. Sleeping worlds are worlds that have fallen to darkness. Yes, yes, yes. Okay, okay. Now, in DDD, basically, Sora and Riku are not awake at the same time. So it's dream drop distance.

Every time you go between one of this, you go back and forth, Sora or Riku will drop. And they drop between the different worlds. And this whole sleeping world's thing is all about Saur and Riku trying to gain the power of waking. What's the power of waking? We don't have time for that. We're not going to talk about that one. But in the trailer, saw a outline of Donald and Goofy, saw like a, what would you call it?

Like a hologram, a mirage, like a vision of Donald and Goofy, which was very similar to what happened in DDD when he saw Riku, like Riku's side of the sleeping worlds and immediately upon seeing that he drops and the trailer then cut to donald and goofy in the cocoa world so this very well may be another DDD style situation i hope it is not a fucking drop counter like DDD had where you're forced to like switch between the different

characters i hope it's like some more controlled thing now that sorra has gone through the Mark of Master exam. Even though he didn't become a key blade master from it, I do hope that it's not like a, this is, like this is going to happen constantly throughout the entire game. I hope it's more of like a first time it happens, it's forced and then like overtime. It's like, there's more of an explanation of what's going on. But a lot of people speculating that we're in a situation somewhat similar to the sleeping worlds, possibly. Again, there is so much we don't know about four and don't know about quadratum,

don't know about why the mobile game characters are here, because we know they became dream eaters with DDD, so after the events of DDD, did they somehow, did they somehow come to Quadratum for some reason? Who the fuck's the master of masters? What is the box? That's another thing. KH3, the box.

This is why I've been so sad that it's taken so long between games, because this series is fucking just ludicrous. It makes no sense what is going on

and I love every moment of it. One thing I do hope is I do hope the Disney worlds feel like they are more integrated into the story than they did with three. Three, it kind of just felt like you went to the world, you repeated the scenes from the movie, and that was all.

Whereas in one and two, they felt like they were more part... Like, they made sense in context of Sora's journey, right? Sora went to Deep Jungle, and in that world, he was having, he was having trouble with Donald being a friend. And the whole story of Deep Jungle of Tarzan was about, like, you know, becoming friends. And knowing that you can be friends with each other, knowing your differences. And like every other world, like going to Olympus Coliseum, Sora at that point was really weak. He fought Cloud.

He became stronger. he fought Herculees, Fort Hades, he became strong. It was like, it was training Sora. The Peter Pan world, Sora learnt to fly. That became a very important thing. Monstro, like Riku was heavily integrated into that world. Also, Neverland as well. Riku was heavily integrated into that world.

Wonderland, you could argue, is less important, but Wonderland sort of got more into, like, what Heartless were. two did very similar thing. Not as much as one, but then three came along and it was literally just, hey, here are the highlight of Frozen. Here are the highlights of Pirates of the Caribbean.

They're not gonna play video games. Now here's the problem. Basically no one cares. And it's seven days. What the fuck is seven days? Oh wow. A week? Oh my God.

Oh, you're not gonna play your PlayStation for a week? No. Sony's never gonna be able to survive that. No. No. They feel so strongly about it. They'll be back online a week later. Many won't.

No, here's the thing about any video game boycott. Every video game boycott is one trailer away from ending. In this case, it's seven days away from ending. If you actually want to do a boycott, do a boycott. Get rid of the PlayStation. Sell it. Get rid of it. Get rid of it.

There has been an interesting trend going on lately. I talked about this in the last solo episode, but there has been this trend of these AI decomps. AI seems to have gotten to a point where it is good enough to now decompile relatively complex video games.

So here's one about Modern Warfare 2, the original Modern Warfare 2, not the remake or the new game. I guess it's not new at this point. MW22. When did MW2 come out? That was 2022. Yes. So the original MW2, which would have been 9? MW2, Xbox 3.

360. Modern Warfare 2, that was 2009. Good guess, good guess. Okay, cool. So I generally know early cod numbers. That one, for some reason, like, all of my cod numbers are based around 2007. Why, 2007, that's cod4. So I just count up from cod4.

Anyway, so we have this AID comp. We have another AID comp. This is of Animal Crossing. Now, people will say in the comments, AI-coded Slough, I don't want this, it's Slop, it's Slop, it's Slop, it's Slop. It is really interesting. This tech has gotten to the point where this is actually viable now. If I look up AIDCOM, you actually see a lot of people,

you'll see a lot of people talking about it on these various subredits. And there is this very mixed opinion on it. Because some people are just, you know, they don't like AI because AI, and we'll get more into the... We'll get more into that in just a bit. But then other people are saying, well, a lot of these games would have never been decompiled anyway. so like what's the harm in it

because we've now sort of there's this whole like there is this whole sort of subset of projects that just appearing out of nowhere we're seeing we're seeing like

a revolution in like decomps of old games and maybe you don't like it maybe the quality would be better if somebody had done it by hand absolutely but I think it's really interesting this is happening.

I don't know where this goes. And if... It's one thing if it's a game that's already been done, right? You can just say, oh, well, this is something that's already been done and the AI already knew how to do it because that game's already been done. That's a task that's already been completed. But when we talk about games that haven't been done in engines that haven't been approached, that's no longer just a matter of, oh, it's just AI copying things that were already

done, this is now it using the knowledge base that is out there to I guess you could say synthesize new knowledge. There's a lot of things that have happened this year with AI, where I think it really has

entirely shifted the equation on where this tech's going to be. Because I was very fucking skeptical up until frankly, like February this year. Because before this point,

a lot of what was being generated was utter garbage. It was all useless. A lot of it was just like replacing people in roles that didn't need to be replaced and just replacing them worse. Then you had the, obviously, the AI security report stuff, and a lot of that was just... A lot of that stuff was not great.

a lot of projects really complained about just being inundated with just unusable reports. Then something happened around February or so this year. I presume one of the, one of like the latest models that people are using now would have come out. Best AI model currently. What is the best thing right now? When did Opus 5 release? Because I hear a lot about that one. That released July.

Okay, so that's a little bit newer then. I don't know. I don't know exactly the point it happened, but we did hit a turning point where I think the output of garbage to useful information, it's starting to shift. and for people that were concerned about this like being a bubble, I think that... I don't know.

My prediction for a long time has been... I don't think the bubble is ever going to burst. I do think it is going to deflate to a healthy level, though. There is obviously like with crypto early on or NFTs, especially, where it's just being injected into everything. I think a lot of that stuff has mostly pulled back. There's still a lot of it in places where it shouldn't be that's just simply cost cutting because cost cutting,

you know, customer service, for example. That was an area that had already been cooked for a long time. So I'm not surprised he got extra cooked with AI. But when it comes to actually like producing something useful and like other places where this tech could be used, it does seem to be a lot of, a lot of the focus now is on places where how do we

like optimize value from this, I guess, is good to put it. And I don't know. I legitimately don't know where we're going to go because if you'd ask me like a year and a half ago where we were going to be in a year from now, I would not have said where we are right now. I would have said the tech was still going to be pretty much unusable.

And it was, you know, it would have just been, oh, you know, the kernel, for example, just get a bunch of AI reports and that's about it. Now we're seeing the kernel, like the Linux kernel, like fully accept this tech, fully embrace this tech. We're seeing it in like every other project in random little places. There are these like little, like holdouts,

these little bastions of we are not doing any AI code. We are fully going to be this artisan developer. but I think those holdouts are going to be like, I don't want to repeat topics I talked about in prior episodes, but I do I have noticed, and I know people in education, right? That, like, everyone's using AI in these situations.

So, like, if you're going to say, I'm a project that has no AI, like the amount of people that are going to be interested in that, it's going to be like, again, the example of you used before, it's going to be like woodworking where, yeah, you could, you can use a lathe and all this modern tech. I guess the lathe isn't really that modern tech, but you can use like electric tools and stuff,

or you can do things by hand. There's nothing wrong with doing by hand, but the electric tools are always going to produce a cheaper result. Maybe not better in every case, but a cheaper result and more done more effectively. So these AIT comp stuff, I think it's interesting. I think it's very interesting, like what's going on. And I don't know where it's gonna go.

I don't, I'm just, I can't make any predictions any longer on where these things are going to go. Because, like, any prediction that I make is just going to be wrong in just a couple of months. It feels like, in some ways it's maybe kind of speeding up. I don't know. Like that, that, like, early thing where it was like, you know, you went from nothing to there being AI. Like, that's a big jump.

And for a long time, it did kind of feel like it was, you know, very plateaued. But then something happened. Then something happened. I don't know. I don't know. I'm just kind of rambling about where, like, how things are right now.

But, like... I don't know, man. Like, I'm... Overall, I am... I don't know of concerns the word I want to say, or just interested. There's something going on. There's definitely something going on.

They don't want to eat the price of a warranty because it was totally fine to eat the price of a warranty when the price you paid or the price of the new device is the price you paid or maybe a couple of dollars more expensive, better yet in some cases couple of dollars actually cheaper. There was a time. Okay? where PC hardware, I was gonna sound crazy to anyone who is like five years old and wasn't around like a few years ago, there was a time that PC hardware got cheaper. you're going to have a rough experience. I am now pretty much over that, like, that initial hump. That initial hump of, everything sucks every day. There's still a little bit, like my legs, especially like inner thighs, like still a bit, a bit,

like the joint on my hip. It's still a little pain. A little, still a little pain there. But I've been enjoying it. It's been nice to get back to it. I will say, there are people who put up the reserve signs for the saunas and then don't take them down overnight,

Because I've been really enjoying the sauna, man. Like, I love the sauna. It's been like three days since I've been to the sauna now.

Here's the problem. Maybe this isn't a good thing. But like, the days that I don't do the sauna, I just feel worse. Like, it is such a mood booster to go out and go to the gym. On the top of things that surprisingly do work now, um, I mentioned the other week that I was going to start playing Monster Hunter Wilds. And if you go to the Steam page for it, is it still mixed? It is still mixed from recent reviews because a lot of the recent reviews browse all... Why is it not showing me the actual reviews?

Just reviews by friends? Why can I not just see reviews? Positive. Why are reviews not loading? The fuck... Why the fuck a review's not loading? Okay. Steam's a little broken.

Um, most recent. Fucking hate this game. Um, keyboard and mouse controls and UI are extremely unintuitive. That's called Monster Hunter. Game is not paused by simply opening the menu. That's because it's a multiplayer game. Secret Mount frequently used automatic movement. You can turn that off.

During the story of the game, force to put the player on the mount. That's called a story. Um, what else do we have here? Targeting the melee weapons does not feel intuitive. Uh, stop playing on a keyboard and mouse. Stop being fucking weird. The interface contains a large number of icons. That's called Monster Hunter. Normal gameplay cellular cannot be disabled.

Okay. Um, a lot of the, a lot of the reviews of this time were like, I don't like that I have to buy the DLC again. Um, because, oh, I'd not even again, like, a lot of Hulu bought the DLC, uh, bought the premium edition, didn't like they'd, like, buy the DLC, uh, the rest of the DLC pack. Um, when I first originally played the game, the performance was incredibly terrible. Really, really, really, really bad. Um, that was my concern with getting back into it. Now, there have been some technical problems.

There absolutely have been. There's been a few flickering textures, uh, little things like that. I haven't had a crash yet, which is good. I did have an issue where the game just didn't open. I just stopped it and then it just opened it. I don't know why it didn't open the first time. Still don't know. No idea.

So that was a problem. But besides that, that. I've got the game running at a solid 120 now. I did have to lower some settings, but I'm to, you know, look, this game should run better. It is a, it's an R-E-engine game. It still could absolutely run better. On my system, this game should run at like high 120. Yes, I have a 6750x-T. This is the way that video games were optimized in the past. They weren't built for the latest of latest GPUs, they'll build for the GPUs and like the performance that people actually have. That stopped happening about eight years ago, maybe 10 years ago, and now we build video

games for cards that people don't have. But considering the state of PC gaming, it performs quite well on my system. There are some issues I have with the game design overall. Monster Hunter World, I've not played the previous games, but my understanding is World streamlined a lot of things. I really like World. World is a really fun game. Wilds streamlined even more

to the point where I can understand why some people may not even consider it a monster hunter game anymore. So in World, you had to actually track monsters. You were hunting the monsters. So, like, eratholose would leave scales on the ground

or maybe an engineer would leave some footprints or various, like, you know, you can, you see monster tracks, you can see things the monsters dropping, monsters will shit on the ground. You know, other things that an animal might do just scaled up five times bigger. Wilds doesn't have any of that. Wilds does not have any monster tracking. So in World, initially, monsters are not on your map. You actually have to track the monster down based on tracks.

when you get to a high enough tier of tracking the monster, then it is automatically on your map. So once you've done this like, you know, 10, 15 times, then you don't have to do it anymore, and now the monster's on your map. In Wild, it skips that part, and automatically the monster is on your map. So you can just suddenly run to where the monster is

and immediately start hunting it, or immediately start fighting it. So a lot of people are calling it Monster Fighter, not Monster Hunter. And I get it, right? Because that is like a... That was a really cool part of world. Like, being able to do that was super cool.

And you got to really, you really got to understand the environments, how to navigate around them. I feel like even at this point in World, and I've not been playing Wilde's for that long, maybe like 15 hours or so, at this point in World, I had a much deeper understanding of the zone. And I think a big part of that as well is Wilds gave you way more zones, way more quickly. Like within the first 15 hours of the game, you have five zones. unlocked. Whereas in Wilds, you, I think by that point, would still be in the forest. So you really start to understand what that environment is like, where items are located, where monsters go, where their dens are, how to get ahead of them, all this stuff. And that doesn't really exist in Wilds. And it does feel like a downgrade. Now, it's still fun fighting

the monsters. Don't get me wrong, that is still really fun. But I do miss that component. Now, my understanding is that Rise didn't have that. So what a lot of, what often happens in Monster Hunter is you have the main series and the portable series. Rise is part of the portable series. World and Wild is part of the main series. Oftentimes the portable series is where a lot of ideas get tested. So the portable series, you tend to have a lot more, like, weirder. Like, the monsters are a lot faster. You tend to have a lot more. You tend to have a lot more. a lot more experimental game design. You tend to have, like, I think, I think it was Rise to introduce mounts. I want to say, maybe I'm wrong there. Like, actually, like, proper mounts. Um,

also Rise didn't have monster tracking. I'm going to keep playing wild. I'm enjoying it. If it, look, if it stops being enjoyable, I'll stop playing it and that's fine. It's a video game. You don't have to play it until the end of time. Um, yeah, I'm curious to see what the DLC is like. because I don't know if we have a date for that one. MH Wilde's Ascendance, release date. 2027. Okay, yeah, so it's supposed to come out next year. So we'll see.

We'll see. Also, when D.L.C. from Monster comes out, they usually introduce some, like, new core mechanic. World introduced the very divisive clutch claw. Now granted, Wilde also has some just like base game divisive stuff with the focus mode. So Monster Hunter, traditionally it's been very, especially for the heavier weapons, when you attack, you are very committed to that direction you're attacking. You typically outside of in the middle of combos cannot redirect yourself,

especially with the heavier weapons. Lighter weapons like dual blades, sword and shield, you have a bit more maneuverability. But if you are like committed to a big bong with a great sword, a big bong with a hammer, you're gonna bonk. And if you miss, sucks to suck. While you have focus mode where now you can actually aim yourself and like fully redirect these attacks, which do make the combat faster and more streamlined, again though, this is stuff that Montauntra has just never had. So it's already had that as like a fairly controversial thing. Weld introduced the clutch claw.

Sorry, Icebourne introduced the clutch claw. The clutch claw was a way to just grab onto any monster. Let me see if I can find a picture of it. Clutch claw. So, sorry, I keep saying Weld. Ice spawn introduced the clutch claw. This guy here. This was a way to automatically grab onto any single monster

and immediately start attacking them from it. The problem with the clutch claw is when it was added to... So when you bought the DLC, it was available in Baseworld, it trivialized basically everything because monsters in Baseworld were not designed around the Clutch Claw. And then in Ice Sporn, if you didn't use the Clutch Claw, basically, like, you were just cutting out a shitload of damage

because monsters had so much more health that the clutch claw basically felt required. In Wilds, M.H. Wilds, ascendance, what is it called? Boost? Boost Bracer. Yes, the boost bracer. Find the video of it.

Is this just the video? Is this other bullshit around it? Where's the video? Yeah, here's the video about the boost bracer. Boy. Is this it? Boost Bracer, you're going to demo it here? Should, okay.

It's basically, if you ever played DMC, it's the thing that, fucking What's his face gets, Virgil's Kid. And it's gonna be, it's not really clear how it's gonna be used for a lot of weapons. With the Great Sword, it's clearly used for like a sped-up, faster power move.

It's also being used for like dodging out of the way of enemy attacks. With the gun lance here, it's clearly used for like some big powerful combo. So it's not really clear how it's going to like integrate with the combat. But my concern is the same concern that a lot of people had with base world, where it's going to trivialize a lot of the base fights. Hopefully it doesn't feel as required to the game as the clutch claw did. Um, yeah, yeah. We'll see though, we'll see. I do hope also with Ascendants, they bring some sort of the monster hunting part of it back, rather than just being a monster fighter. I don't know, I don't know. Maybe that's just me. Maybe other people don't like this system and it was good to remove it. But, I don't know. I don't know. Either way, though, I think we will end it off there.
