Tech Over Tea - YouTube Has No Idea What Streamers Need | Solo
Episode Date: May 11, 2022Youtube keeps adding in these great ideas in theory for streamers and they keep doing it in an absolutely terrible way, all you need to do is copy & paste what Twitch is doing. ==========Support T...he Channel========== ► Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/brodierobertson ► Paypal: https://www.paypal.me/BrodieRobertsonVideo ► Amazon USA: https://amzn.to/3d5gykF ► Other Methods: https://cointr.ee/brodierobertson =========Video Platforms========== 🎥 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBq5p-xOla8xhnrbhu8AIAg =========Audio Release========= 🎵 RSS: https://anchor.fm/s/149fd51c/podcast/rss 🎵 Apple Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tech-over-tea/id1501727953 🎵 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3IfFpfzlLo7OPsEnl4gbdM 🎵 Google Podcast: https://www.google.com/podcasts?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8xNDlmZDUxYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw== 🎵 Anchor: https://anchor.fm/tech-over-tea ==========Social Media========== 🎤 Discord:https://discord.gg/PkMRVn9 🐦 Twitter: https://twitter.com/TechOverTeaShow 📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/techovertea/ 🌐 Mastodon:https://mastodon.social/web/accounts/1093345 ==========Credits========== 🎨 Channel Art: All my art has was created by Supercozman https://twitter.com/Supercozman https://www.instagram.com/supercozman_draws/ DISCLOSURE: Wherever possible I use referral links, which means if you click one of the links in this video or description and make a purchase we may receive a small commission or other compensation.

Good morning, good day, and good evening. I am, as always, your host, Brodie Robertson, and today we are back for episode 114 of Tech of a T.
And before I get into some of the housekeeping stuff, I want to talk about a topic that I wasn't planning to talk about today because it literally just happened like an hour ago.
YouTube finally is starting to add, slowly over time, more and more features that people who stream on their platform have been asking for, for a really, really, really long time.
So, YouTube finally is adding a way to raid. They're finally adding in raids.
I don't know why I can't find the link. Here we go. So, Twitch has this feature where you can go
and basically send your viewers over to another stream. This is a great feature.
It makes it really easy for someone to go and send their audience to a smaller creator or just one of their friends,
anyone on the platform.
Raiding is a great feature.
Now, raiding has been abused many times in the past.
There is this whole thing called a hate raid
where someone will either send a bunch of bot accounts
or they will send their audience that hates another person over to that channel and then just get them to be a bunch of assholes.
And obviously, you shouldn't be doing that.
And YouTube, I guess they're trying to counteract that.
But the way they are trying to counteract it basically makes the feature completely useless.
So the feature is going to be called Live Redirect because
YouTube isn't going to use the same name Twitch uses and you know Live Redirect is sort of a
it is a more friendly term for it and it's a more sort of descriptive term of what's being done. A
raid makes sense if you're in the Twitch culture already but if you don't know what raid means then
that it doesn't make any sense. This I totally understand anyone who's new to the platform would understand live redirect
So live redirect move your audience to the live stream or premiere of your choice, so you can't do it for VODs
But if the video is in premiere state that it can be done, which that's fine
I I don't really think it make any sense for VODs anyway, so I think yeah
I think live streamers premieres is probably the for VODs anyway, so I think... Yeah, I think live streaming premieres
is probably the best way that could be done.
So, hi, creators.
Today, we're introducing Live Redirect on YouTube,
a new feature that lets you send your audience
to the premiere or live stream.
We read that already.
With Live Redirect,
you can build excitement for an upcoming premiere
and help your fans spontaneously discover new creators.
You'll see in a bit why you can't do that
and show them some well-deserved love. Start by building out the list of channels that can redirect to you.
This is the first problem.
So we've added built-in features so you have control over who can redirect to your channel. I think that's fine.
Keep the default YouTube studio setting and any channel you're subscribed to can redirect to you as long as your
subscriptions are public or update
it to allow only live redirects from
specific channels that you have approved
this is the big problem
so unlike
Twitch's raid feature where
like here's what I like about Twitch
so I'm streaming and we get to
the end of a stream and then someone's gonna be
like hey Brody,
do you want to do a raid? I'll be like, you're not sure.
They'll be like, okay, let's go to Linux
tag and see who's streaming right now.
Not that. I actually
want to see the Linux tag itself.
Show me the tag.
How do I go to the tag? How does Twitch
work? Here we go.
Okay, no one's
streaming with the Linux tag right now, so ignore that. Let's
just say I go to the just chatting tag, or just chatting section. So someone would be like, okay,
hey, maybe go and send your audience over to Critical, because I'm sure Critical would really
care. But that's what rating is good for. It makes it very easy to let your audience sort of
pick and choose who you want to
send people over to.
But because there is this restriction where
either you
have to be subscribed to the person
you want to be raiding, which already is
one barrier to entry, but not that big of a barrier.
But they also have to be
subscribed to you, or
you have to be an approved person
to raid them, or to live redirect to them.
So, unless you both know each other already, or, yeah, unless you both know each other already,
maybe not know each other as in, like, friends or acquaintances, but at least are aware of each
other, you can't raid them. At all. Literally at all. I don't know what YouTube is thinking with
this feature because
Everybody replying to this when they post this over on Twitter and even a comment down the bottom here
Basically is saying how they could do this better
they can one thing I don't think having a
Approved list is a bad thing. I don't think that's bad. If you want to have an approved list, sure.
I don't think Twitch has that feature.
If they do, someone correct me.
But I don't think it's a bad idea as an option.
If you want to limit who can raid you.
Let's say you recently got doxxed or something.
You don't want to spread that around or whatever it is.
But there should also be a toggle to let anybody raid you.
And if you choose to have that,
then that is on you for enabling that toggle.
If someone decides to hate raid you,
if someone decides to do this or that,
then it's on you because you decided to make that choice.
Obviously, you could still go and report that person,
but you've at least made the conscious choice to accept that you might have
a bad experience depending on who decides to go and raid you. The other way this could be really
improved is by giving the creator a notification when someone decides to raid them. So I could be
streaming and then, let's say, Cyan or Ren decides they want to raid me.
It could then show a little pop-up saying,
hey, this person wants to raid you.
This person wants to live.
I'm going to say raid because I'm used to Twitch.
This person wants to raid you.
Do you accept it?
If you say no, it doesn't go through.
If you say yes, then they can do it.
I think that would completely eliminate any ability for it to be abused in that way.
Now, it could be abused in other ways.
Say, for example, if it didn't handle the notifications properly,
you could spin up a bunch of fake accounts and then just have a thousand people try to raid you.
That is one way it could be
abused but as for as for abusing you in the the way that twitch hate raids were working that would
completely eliminate that the problem i have with the way that youtube approaches anything related
to streaming is they they see what twitch is doing and then do it worse like that's the like youtube has so
much money if they wanted to they could become the best streaming platform overnight completely
destroy twitch and nobody would really care sure the hardcore twitch guys look oh i don't want to
go to youtube because youtube chat bad. Like, sure, whatever.
There's going to be plugins.
And like Ludwig is literally paying for a plugin to be made to fix the YouTube chat.
But the way that YouTube currently handles it is every time they take something from Twitch, whether it's memberships, whether it's emotes.
YouTube doesn't really have an emote culture. If you spare emotes,
like that is like in many cases a reason to get your messages deleted. Like that's just not the
way that YouTube's chat culture actually works. With memberships, you can't gift memberships.
I think I've talked about this before, but the way the YouTube
clipping system works is just objectively worse than Twitch's. So when you clip something on
Twitch, that becomes its own standalone VOD. So if that stream that it was connected to gets deleted,
that clip still exists. YouTube though, YouTube doesn't have a clip system.
YouTube has a clip system. What it is, is it's effectively a timestamp system. So if you post a,
actually, I think I can show you right now. I'm going to find, clips also work on streams that
are not currently going. So I'm going to go to, Let's go to Cyan's channel.
And let's just
find a stream. We'll go to the recent stream she
did. So,
there should be a clip button here. Here we go.
So there is this clip button here.
Oi, stop playing it.
Should we mute it?
So it creates this section where you can
select a set of timestamps, right?
But when I make this clip, it is directly connected to this stream.
So if this stream gets deleted, these timestamps were only relevant in this stream.
So it just doesn't matter anymore.
And there's just these little things.
The other thing with clips is there's no way little things like the other thing with with clips is
There's no way to actually find clips so this clip that I if I made this clip
This clip wouldn't be shown on Cyan's channel It wouldn't be on my channel in like a section where I can see my clips. It wouldn't be anywhere like that
It would just be this link and that is it. And it'd be like stored on the YouTube servers
somewhere, presumably connected to the channel in some way because it is directly connected to the video,
but not displayed to the user in any way.
Like what is YouTube doing? Like these are such basic features that should be there and I don't know how...
I really don't know how
it's taking them so long to actually get anything like this done it seems like
though YouTube is trying to slowly approach some things like this because
they are making like the they are making the YouTube gaming acquisitions where
they're bringing over fairly big Twitch streamers.
Like we had Ludwig come over.
Sykuno is coming over soon.
I think that's it for now for the new,
like for the relative new ones.
But I wouldn't be surprised if going like,
you know, a year or two from now,
if YouTube does keep trying to do what they're doing,
that they don't bring over more streamers. There's going to be some where
their content style just does not fit on YouTube whatsoever. So, like, anyone who is a React
streamer, like, xQc obviously does things more than just reacting, but a big part of his content at this point is reacting and on YouTube the YouTube content ID
system is exists unlike Twitch's where it's like Twitch's the way Twitch's works I don't really
understand it works on VODs but I don't believe it works on streams and that's why streamers
get away with so much stuff on YouTube because,
on Twitch, sorry, because if you just don't save your VODs,
you're just not going to get a strike.
There are different, I think if they go and manually,
if they go and manually strike it while it's happening,
that can be done, but I don't believe Twitch right now has automated tools.
I could be wrong about that, but I don't believe I am.
So,
streamers like that wouldn't
be able to really come over.
People who are, like, whose
content is very
centralized around
the
Twitch
chat system.
The way that Twitch communicates.
But I think that's sort of only a matter of time.
The reason why live streaming is weird on YouTube
is because YouTube chat is just YouTube comments
in a live format.
And as anybody who has made videos will tell you,
or anybody who has just read the YouTube comments,
some of the dumbest people
on the planet live in the YouTube comments. So taking that into a live format doesn't fix it.
It just makes it more annoying. So I think Twitch's chat culture is, it is one of the things
that Twitch really does have going for it. But I think if YouTube keeps doing what they're doing even if they're
just making the features worse I think there will come a time where YouTube is
just seen as the default streaming platform especially with is that actually
gonna happen though so there was a Bloomberg article like last week about
twitch changing their exclusivity and changing up their membership or their sub splits.
I don't know what the exclusivity is or if that's actually happening.
Some people are talking about it.
Wait, what is this?
Sykuno, who's now on YouTube,
concerned Twitch
exclusivity change could be really bad for
streamers. Why would it be bad for streamers?
Obviously, the 70-30 split
you have your discussion about. Why would the exclusivity
be a bad thing?
Now Sykuno has voiced
his thoughts that the changes could be very bad for streamers.
However, he went against the grain, saying
the no exclusivity plans could also
be a problem. Sykuno disag the grain saying the no exclusivity plans could also be a problem.
Sykunu discredits
fans over Twitch exclusivity.
There were several changes in the report that were blasted by
Twitch viewers.
Sykunu claimed it was a bad
idea. It sounds good, but it's bad because
of what you get for exclusivity. A lot of
big streamers get special deals to stay on Twitch.
The thing is, no exclusivity means
they're not going to get those deals anymore
I don't think that's
necessarily the case
I think
I think that if Twitch wanted to
wanted to
um what's the word
wanted to
actually yeah no if they wanted to have
a specific contract
for some streamer that has exclusivity in
it i don't think there would be anything stopping them doing that but it would be changing the
default where the default right now or the default i guess it is still right now the default right
now is you are exclusive if you have a partnership on twitch it would be changing that to you don't
have an exclusivity, but if
we want to give you one and we'll offer you whatever it is they wanted to offer you, I think
there's no reason why they couldn't inherently do that. I don't, I really don't think, I don't think
there's any way you could argue that removing exclusivity is a bad thing. I do think there's
certainly, there is is there's an argument
to what saikano is saying here i just don't think that in reality it would play out like that like
twitch twitch has their own like twitch makes the rules they can change the rules that they want if
they want to make a contract for some individual person where the rules are different i'm sure they
could do that like if they wanted to have if they wanted to bring on someone who was going to only make,
you know,
kid friendly content,
for example,
even though Twitch itself doesn't have rules saying you have to make kid
friendly content.
I don't think there's any reason why they couldn't sign someone on with that
being the intention.
It could just be the terms of their contract and not anybody else's,
but maybe I'm wrong about that.
Maybe Twitch, for some reason, would be locked in this way
if they said they were going to do it for someone and not someone else.
I don't know.
But from my perspective of being a relatively small creator,
like my main channel is at like 31k subs.
My streams, when I do them, aren't massive.
I get like close to...
It's like 60 to 100 viewers generally is the range on the main channel.
Gaming channel, it's like 10 people.
So very tiny streamer.
From the small streamer perspective, from the small creator perspective,
there is no reason to ever have accepted Twitch's exclusivity.
As someone with a very small audience
what you want to do is be in front of as many people
who might like your content as is possible.
There's no point locking yourself down to one platform
especially when both YouTube and Twitch
when it comes to live streaming in particular
are really terrible for discoverability.
YouTube, what it has over Twitch for discoverability is VODs. The VOD system on YouTube
is objectively better and nobody can argue that. Sure, it is going to discriminate against certain
types of content, especially certain forms of political content,
covering certain events and things like that.
But when we are talking about, you know, middle-of-the-road content, like you're a gaming channel, you're a
you're a tech channel, things like that,
there's no argument that YouTube's VOD system is worse than Twitch's.
And the way you approach streaming on YouTube,
I think it requires also doing VODs.
I don't think there's any...
I know there are people who do this,
but if you're someone who is just starting out,
it's probably better off to be making VODs alongside your stream.
Not necessarily primarily doing VODs like I do,
but making VODs alongside your streams
as this is the way you're going to get people over to your channel
for when the streams start.
Because while...
While Twitch's discoverability for streams is bad,
because it's literally ordered by viewers
or recommended for you,
which doesn't really recommend stuff that you care about.
Like my recommended right now,
even though I've clicked on streams
and then clicked off a second later,
literally even reporting some of these streams
is all of the ASMR channels
who are using the VTuber tag like I've reported these channels
And they're still showing up in my recommended. That's not how your recommended system should be working whatsoever
So while Twitch's system of doing it is bad
YouTube's live system is very bad as well like
Just specifically live stuff,
it's...
Let's see. Do we have any VODs in here?
Here we go. So we have live
right now. Okay.
Why is there a recent stream section?
Why?
I don't really care about there being
upcoming streams. Also, what does
this have to do with any of the content that I watch?
Like, this is
uh, I,
ABS-CBN Entertainment.
Here's one, ABP
News, The Russia-Ukraine War.
Yeah, I definitely am going to watch that.
Here's one, uh,
I don't know what language that is in.
It's a language that I can't read,
though. Uh, like, none of these
streams that are here,
like, that are upcoming streams,
have anything to do with any of the content I watch.
Like, why is there sport content here?
So, all the way, there's one stream that maybe I would watch,
and it's a random VTuber.
Live Now Gaming, you have a random stream.
You have the one from Sykuno.
Maybe YouTube is listening to me, so that might work and then live now sports like why where's
the rest of it like like where is the rest of YouTube why is the live thing
also a channel like you can subscribe to live how is twitches- sorry, how is YouTube's live system worse than Twitch's? Like, I don't- I just
don't understand. I don't understand how you have so much money and how you have YouTube gaming.
You're clearly trying to build up game streaming on YouTube and it's still terrible and it's still
so bad and it's not-'s it doesn't like this section
doesn't seem to be showing any signs of getting better
streaming streaming is um yeah i just realized you couldn't see half the screen could you
well that's fine you could see there was a lot of stuff in here that just didn't matter. So also this bit. Why? Why is there a section for recent live streams?
It's the live section. I want to see shit that's live. Like how is that so complicated? Whatever.
Also oh the other thing that that YouTube doesn't do. So because you're scheduling a live event
it is like treated as a premiere effectively on your
channel but twitch when you go to someone's channel and they're live it shows you their
stream that's all you need to do so if i go to like i don't know let's go to a random channel
on twitch let's see let's uh go you know here we go so So here is Small Ant's channel. If I want to see Small Ant's stream,
I click on it, and the stream starts playing. That's all I need to do.
On YouTube, let's find someone who's streaming on YouTube.
So,
who is streaming right now? Oh, here we go, Ludwig is streaming.
So, if I want to go watch Ludwig's stream, you would think that maybe clicking on here would take you to the stream
well, no because
That's not how it works. There's going to be a stream on his profile and this isn't a thing that's here by default
I think he's actually gone and added this himself
So we click on that and then the stream starts like why do I need to do that?
Why is there not just like a page that is always going to the stream starts. Like, why do I need to do that? Why is there not just, like, a page that is always going to the stream?
Oh, also the other thing about this, because it's treated like a,
this is treated like a video, like, it's a watch link.
So there's no, like, you know, YouTube live page
where you can go to whatever stream is currently streaming.
Like, how, how?
Just, I don't, I just don't know how youtube is in this state with streaming
and i don't know i don't know i'm gonna talk about something else because youtube streaming
is just starting to annoy me so i want to talk about what we're gonna talk about let's talk about oh right so I've got
at this stage
three more streams
three more podcasts
including this episode in this house
so my move in date has been moved
ahead from the
1st of June to the
21st of May
my nose is itchy so that's
great every time I do a podcast To the 21st of May. My nose is itchy. So that's great.
Every time.
Every time I do a podcast.
Something has to go wrong.
So moving now on the 21st.
Very excited.
So get ready to not see this room.
After a short amount of time.
And what I'm probably going to do.
Is after I move.
Then I will be bringing.
I might bring a guest on before I move. But probably going to start is after I move, then I will be bringing, I might bring a guest on before
I move, but
probably gonna start again with that
after I do. Just cause things are
kind of a mess right now and
everything's kind of a mess right now
and I just, I just don't
wanna be in this house much longer and just
oh, it's a mess.
Uh.
I was fine with it for a while.
But now that I know the move out date.
And the move in date.
The new place is coming up very soon.
It's just like.
I can't deal with being here much longer.
Now that I know there is an escape.
Very shortly over the horizon.
Everything is coming crumbling down.
It's like.
Oh god. I hate this place, like, why is it the last, the last two places I've moved into has had a fucking crazy
person in it, uh, my, the, the last place I was in, uh, I think I talked about him on the podcast
a couple of times, there's a guy called Mark. Once again, it's the fucking landlord because he's always the landlord. You know, I
think I'm joining the communists.
Fuck the landlord. Fuck the
landlords. Anyway,
um,
every time it's the landlord
who's a crazy person, and because I'm
doing private rentals, usually you end up living with
the landlord, and
the main problem you get is
the people you end up living with are people that
forget they are they're like share housing forget that they are that they are like letting other
people live in their house so they sort of treat it like they are living by themselves and other
people happen to be there so you get people who just don't have any respect for anyone else's
space the fact that anybody else is sleeping at like reasonable times like you know you would
expect that at three in the morning for example you wouldn't blast a stereo basic stuff like that
or here every morning like using your stereo as an alarm at like 7 30 in the morning like that's
just stop.
There are more reasonable ways you can do this,
or the fact that, I've talked about this in a video about my new place,
and I think I mentioned on the stream, other than the podcast,
there's a TV literally outside my door.
Like, half a meter, like, can't see it.
Half a meter that way, there is a TV there.
And it's on basically all the time that she's here
and it's just
it just annoys me, it's just
horrible
like, it's not bad
like, for a day or a couple
of days, but like, a year
and two years, just like
it just slowly wears you down
it's like, it's like a wave
it's like a wave going up against a rock.
First, first year or so, you know, it's fine, you can deal with it, but over time,
it slowly wears it down, and eventually it comes fucking crumbling down, and everything falls
apart. That's where I'm at right now. So, hopefully it hasn't come across, like, too badly in my videos, I've tried to, like,
you know, tried to get as decent enough sleep as I can, and I've tried to, like, get myself in a
decent mindset to do the videos, but right now, what I need to do is just get out of this house,
like, that's, that's, that's what needs to be done, so that'll be happening soon and i'm very happy that it is um i did say i there was a video coming
out showing off the new house i forgot to record it when i said i was going to so that didn't end
up actually um happening when it did but i have recorded it now and i have edited it now so it's
also being queued up on youtube i believe by the time you guys see this,
this is what I said last time, but this
time the video actually exists. It has
been queued up on YouTube, so
it'll be coming out, um,
I think I've got it queued for, like,
maybe Friday
of this week? So
the Friday of the week before
you guys are seeing this. So go check out
the new place if you want to see what it's like.
It's very empty in the current state,
and it's going to be very empty over the time you guys are seeing this as well.
There's, like, all my junk on the floor, basically.
There's no bed in there because, you know, bed's still here.
No desk there, nothing like that.
But the 21st is when my parents are coming down to help me
move all the stuff over, because I don't have a ton of stuff, like, I could get a moving van, like, that
would do the job as well, but they were happy to help me out, and there's not really that much, like,
it's my bed, the monitors here, the TV, computer, all that stuff, and that's pretty much it.
The other thing I want to mention, um, for going too far into the house, like, all that stuff. And that's pretty much it. The other thing I want to mention
for going too far into the house
like I've done a couple of times,
I want to talk about something that happened
with the podcast, actually.
So very recently, the audio release hit a milestone.
We finally hit over 10,000 views on the podcast,
which is kind of crazy. I think the video release,
this is including clips obviously, the video release is at like 76,000. So look at this graph
though. It's not a massive growth, but you can see there is a consistent growth week on week.
I like to mainly focus on where the bottom is.
Obviously, you've had like this one here where it went absolutely insane.
But you can see that consistently the bottom is always rising.
So I think, what is the bottom at now?
100 views in a week.
Which obviously is, you know, nothing crazy.
It's not like, hey, I'm quitting my job to become the fucking biggest podcast in the world. I'm going to get a, I'm going to get a
multi-million dollar deal from Spotify. But what it is, is consistent growth. And I think that's
really cool. I think this will pick up more as I, um, as I start to bring people back onto the, uh,
as I start to bring people back onto the podcast again.
Because when was the last time I had a guest?
104, that would be, I believe.
Yeah, 104.
Wow, that was a while ago.
That was a while ago. Jesus. Actually, what does my, uh, what do
some of my early ones have, first one has a lot of, wow, first one is a terrible podcast, I don't
know why anyone would go back and actually watch that, but I guess the thing is, like, even if your
first video, your first stream, first blog even, is terrible. There's always, it's always
going to be one of those ones that have a lot
of views just because of the fact that it's the
first one you did. People want to see
where you started, even if that
start was really bad. But
that's not what I was trying to get to.
Main thing I want to talk about is the fact that we have past
10,000 plays, which is cool.
Which is really cool.
I think. I think
the podcast...
Actually, how many subs does the podcast have
on YouTube? I know it passed
1,000 subs
not that long ago.
Like, maybe two months ago?
I think it's like 1,100?
What are we at? What is the exact
number?
1,129 as of may the 4th i yeah it also has enough um
watch hours where if i wanted to i could enable ads on it as well yeah but what would even work
out to be so you have 5k views a month. So if assuming every single person
was watching ads
I think that would end up being
like
$25 a month
so like you know I don't think
there's really even any point to enabling
the ads at this point. Oh I will
enable the ads at some point on the podcast
but at least right now
unless YouTube is
already injecting them, if they were already
injecting them then I would definitely go and enable them
just so I could like, you know, make
some money off of that but I don't think
that they are. So
for now at least, I'll
probably enable them maybe at like
2 or 3k subs
I would say or if like
it just takes off in the amount of views or anything like that.
But as it stands, um,
it's gonna continue doing what it is doing.
You know what I've been doing recently?
I have been playing a little game. A very little game actually. A very little game for a very little amount of money.
That game being Vampire Survivors. So, man, Vampire Survivors. For anyone who doesn't know
what it is, I'll give you a brief explanation. Let's see if we can find the Steam page.
This game is three US dollars. It is very cheap. It is effectively like a reverse bullet hell
rather than you know
a bullet hell is a game where you're trying to dodge
a bunch of bullets coming at you
in this game though
you are the bullet hell
you are just firing millions of projectiles
maybe not millions
hundreds of projectiles
and just tearing enemies apart around you
and it's a roguelite as well and just tearing enemies apart around you.
And it's a roguelite as well.
So, you know, you're going to get some builds that are crazy,
some builds that are really shit.
And the whole goal is to, at least the whole goal initially,
is to survive 30 minutes on any of the maps that are available.
There are later goals you get, uh one of them being killing death which isn't really achievable through typical means you have to like sort of exploit
the fuck out of the game um but when you kill death then you unlock death again you unlock him
as a character to play there are easier characters to get than that, like Gennaro, for example, who starts with an extra projectile.
You can
really scuff your build
though. If you don't end up
picking the right items, you can
lose pretty early. Not at the start,
but still
early enough where you're like, why?
Why have I lost?
And the
devs are very, very active as well.
I don't know when the last time they released an update was.
Let's see.
April 25th.
So we are definitely due for another update.
Oh, wait.
Are they doing every two weeks now?
If it's every two weeks, then there'll be probably an update a little bit later.
Let's see.
Yeah, it
seems like there was one week between those
to about ten
days between... Yeah, so we're getting close
to being due for another update.
Which, considering the game was
literally $4
Australian, $3 US,
the fact that they are
supporting it as much as they are
is insane.
I think I've put maybe
not that many hours. I think I've put maybe
like 10 hours into it. But for
a game that's $4?
Like,
a $4 game,
10 hours into it is just insane.
Now,
you could play this game without the wiki and, you know, try to make a build that makes sense.
But one of the things you want to aim to do is evolving your weapons.
And evolving weapons is done by getting them to their max level.
And also having certain items in your inventory,
in your weapon and item slots.
So you can have, I believe it's six weapons and six items,
at least typically.
There might be other ways to change that up.
So you might want to have something like,
let's say you start with the whip, for example,
which I believe the starting character
starts with, Antonio, so if you want to have the whip, for example, if you want to evolve this into
the bloody tier, you'd want to go and pick up the item, the hollow heart, then when you get to the
right level, you'll, the way you evolve items is by getting them from chests. So you'll kill something, it'll drop a chest,
and then you'll get the upgraded version.
And the reason why you want the evolved weapons
is because they're not just like slightly better.
They are just flat out insanely better.
So the Bloody Tear, for example,
when you hit things, you get a HP restore.
Now you typically can only have two whips. So two whips, one on either side of
your character, but there are characters that get bonus projectiles, there are
items to give you bonus projectiles like the duplicator. So I believe with one of the characters you can have like seven whips
around you and it becomes very difficult to die. Now you can't just, you don't just
have to have one evolved weapon. You can have as many as you can fit. So what I
there's there may be other strats you can take, but the most basic way to play the game is to fill up your weapon slots and evolve all the weapons.
So you might want to do something like have a whip.
Axes are always crazy. Axes get thrown into the air and then fall down and go through enemies.
The cross is basically a boomerang.
and go through enemies.
The cross is basically a boomerang.
And maybe you want to have something like the lightning ring,
which just causes lightning to randomly strike the ground.
The thing about the items you pick,
the items you pick, the weapons you pick,
they will synergize in different ways.
So there's a lot of micro- Sort of micro optimization you can do.
Even though this is a roguelike.
Like something like Dead Cells for example.
There are still builds you can make.
It's just.
Because the build in Vampire Survivors.
Is set whenever you pick an item.
You want to be.
You sort of want to.
Try to see into the future.
How you can adjust the build. depending on which items you get.
Like maybe you get up to your final weapon slot.
You have the whip, axe, cross.
What's that?
Whip, axe, cross.
You have lightning ring.
And maybe you have sand to water, but then something like the, the rune
trace could fit into your build. The fire one could fit in, maybe the magic one could fit in,
and you sort of have to judge based on the items you've picked up so far, what would ultimately
make the best choice. There are ways you can sort of, I know there are
ways later in the game you can re-roll the items you get. Before you have re-rolling, there are
ways to sort of, I guess, lengthen out how long until you get the next item. So, how many tries
you get to get the next item
so whenever you get an item to it's max level
it then gets taken out of the loot table
so if you
want to go and roll for something
you don't want to eliminate any items from the loot
table, you want to be trying to
slowly
every time you level up you get choices of new weapons
and items, so you want to
slowly be going through it
making sure nothing hits its max
and then when something does show up you actually want
then grab it and then you know
go back to what you were doing
I find this game a lot of fun
there's still a lot of stuff that I have not
seen in the game yet
like I've not seen the guns yet.
I don't even know where you get them.
Surviving 10 minutes and 15 minutes with Pugnala.
Have I unlocked Pugnala yet?
No, I haven't.
How do you unlock Pugnala?
Find and open the coffin in the mad forest.
Oh, right.
That's the other thing.
So some of the maps have side objectives you can do.
While the main objective is surviving for 30 minutes.
And then get murdered by death.
There are other things you might want to find.
So the stage 1.
I believe stage 1, stage 2.
Yeah stage 1, stage 2, stage 3.
All have coffins you can find.
And these coffins will give you different starting characters you can play as.
But then other ones might have a map that shows you where items are located.
I believe that one is located on the dairy plant.
So when you find the map, then you can see what items are actually located
on the map. You can see
exactly where they are.
You can see other things like that, where
drop items are and things like that.
Then there are also the bonus zones as well.
So you have the
Illumalis. I probably butchered that.
Green Acres and the Bone Zone. I have not played the Illmolis. I probably butchered that. Green Acres and
The Bone Zone. I've not played
The Bone Zone yet.
I think I've
unlocked it though.
Unlocked by unlocking
hype mode for three normal
stages. Yeah, I believe I have
unlocked it already.
Wait, no. I have to unlock this
one because I've
unlocked this. Yeah, because this is... Yeah, no, I have to unlock this one because I've...
Because I've unlocked this. Yeah, because this is...
Yeah, no, I've definitely unlocked
this one. I just forgot that it exists
basically. It's probably on the list
and I just didn't see it.
And these are used
for buying...
or used for getting more currency
to get the
permanent item, or permanent upgrades.
So between runs, you have the ability to go and spend your gold
on having a bit more starting health or a bit more damage and things like that,
or buying new characters whose characters also cost gold.
Yeah.
I don't know how many characters this game initially started with but at this stage
there's actually like a lot of them you can go through a lot of them you can go through
and some of them you will just literally never unlock unless you look at the wiki
like uh the missing number which used to be there as um used to be there by defeating death now you have to get it
through save editing also it has randomized stats because of course it
does why wouldn't it honestly this is just cool I highly recommend that if you
haven't played Vampire Survivors
and you've got a little bit of time you want to kill on a game,
it's definitely worth your time.
There's so much that I haven't touched yet,
but if you just get two hours of fun out of it,
two hours of fun for a four dollar game is
better value than you'd get going watching a movie.
That's the way that I look at it. If you get that insane amount of value then
it's clearly going to be a good use of your money. The only problem the Vampire Survivors has is
at least your first couple of runs, the first like five or ten minutes of the run are
Really boring so when you go back to having one weapon
You have two weapons and three weapons like three weapons starts to pick up a bit, but because there's no actual
Interaction with the weapons you're just moving around trying to dodge the enemies
I guess with the birds which have a range they hit in,
there is a bit of gameplay there, but basically the gameplay is you move around and that's it.
It is really boring when you don't really have a lot of flashing colors. The whole gameplay,
the whole excitement factor of the game is getting a bunch of crazy items from the chest
The whole excitement factor of the game is getting a bunch of crazy items from the chest
and doing big numbers.
Big numbers and big shiny colors.
That's the entire appeal of the game.
So when you don't have those things,
it does feel a tad bit slow.
There's not really any way that could be addressed, though.
And it does pick up fairly quickly.
Five minutes later,
especially when some of the first hordes come in,
stuff does start
to get pretty insane.
Actually,
one of the characters you unlock by defeating
the character.
That's cool. What do you actually start with?
The whole... Oh!
Holy Wand. It starts with? Oh, Holy Wand.
It starts with one of the evolved items.
Jesus Christ.
The player can unlock this character by defeating him in Gallo Tower.
32 to 40 tile sets down, not confirmed.
When approaching his location, the area surrounding the player gradually darkens until it becomes almost black.
This is accompanied by the music changing, and symbols begin to appear and travel vertically in sine wave.
Do not miss him. You can easily miss him by continuing to go further down, and he simply won't follow you.
Oh, no.
That's kind of a mess.
Oh, I love that.
Also, the dog you can play as.
That's cool.
This is unlocked by
killing 3,000 dragon
shrimps, which is... Oh,
those guys in Gallo Tower.
Lovely.
Lovely.
What does it use?
It uses the Celestial Dusting. Does this evolve?
Does this evolve? Does this evolve?
I don't think...
No, it does not.
No.
There's a few weapons that don't evolve, like this
and the
Cherry Bomb.
Cherry Bomb is on the
character that gets bonus projectiles
every certain number of levels.
And... The Cherry Bomb is really bad at the start
because it doesn't actually explode every single time you throw one.
So if it doesn't explode, then it just hits something and it takes some damage.
When it does explode, they get a big AoE damage and also some knockback.
So when you get later on down, then you get a higher chance of them exploding,
and then if you go and merge, you go and also pick up your, the luck item, because you want to go and evolve
something like the cross, it makes it so it's basically a hundred percent of the time they explode,
and you're throwing out like seven of them. So by that point, it's kind of insane.
like seven of them. So by that point, it's kind of insane. There is a warning when you start the game though, because there is a lot of flashing colors and you know, that could be a bit of a
problem depending on, depending on who you are. I didn't think I'd keep talking about this game
for as long as I did, but you can probably tell that I do really enjoy the game. It has been distracting me from playing games like XIV as well though, so that is a slight problem.
It's too fun of a game. I'm like,
Do I want to do this or do I want to play other games? It's not like taking away from, you know,
actual things I need to do, but from my game time, there are other games I want to play,
but it's like.
But Vampire Survivors is just easy to throw on.
And easy to just like.
Spend a bunch of time playing it.
And it's a problem.
And I know that Ransom was telling me.
That he wouldn't actually uninstall the game.
Because he was playing it way too much.
Which I get the feeling.
I do get it.
But I'm just gonna
I don't know. I tend to play games and stop playing them
While they're still fun. I don't like I used to in the past like back when I didn't have
Like when I was a kid I didn't have the money to buy my own games
My parents would buy me like one game every quarter. Maybe they'd buy me a game for my birthday or something like that.
I wasn't getting all the new games.
And back then, I would play a game beyond the point where it was fun.
And I'm sure a lot of you guys have like the same feeling.
If you only got like two games a year,
you would play that game as much as possible.
You would play the game as much as speedrunner plays the game,
but without worrying about optimization. You're just finding ways to keep yourself entertained
with the game. But nowadays, when I do have the money to buy my own games, I typically
will play a game, it's going to be fun, and then while it is still a good experience in my mind,
I will then stop it. Like a game like Hades, for example. I think Hades is a great game.
stop it like a game like hades for example i think hades is a great game i also think that hades is a game that is desperately in need of content because it's a roguelite where you always run the same
stages every single time there are four of them four of them three of them
yeah four of them there are four of them
and when you've run them a hundred times
you're like, I don't really fucking care
where I am right now, I just want this to be done
sure, you can make the game harder
you can like, you have the
the heat level
which adjusts the way the gameplay works
but you're still always
seeing the same things over and over
and over again and you also
get to the point where you also start to like hyper optimize the game as well especially when
you start getting to like the the timed mode for example and you want to get stuff done as quickly
as possible and when you are hyper optimizing everything that's when a lot of the fun at least
for me i know some people enjoy like hyper optimization but at least for me that's when a lot of the fun, at least for me, I know some people enjoy hyper-optimization,
but at least for me, that's when all
the fun of a game starts to
fade away. That's why
I don't really get into like,
I've never really gotten to PvP in a Souls
game because it's everyone
hyper-optimizing. It's why
I don't play FPS games anymore
because back when I did,
I would hyper- hyper optimize everything and
it's just like it brings out a side of me that I'm not too fond of and it brings out a side of me
where I just I just don't want to play the game and that's just if you're in that mindset when
you're playing games you're just doing it wrong Unless you're doing it with the intention of making money,
if you're playing a game, it should be because you're enjoying the game. I don't think that's
that controversial a take. I think everybody is going to, you know, basically agree with what I'm
saying. Another game we've been playing, this one was on stream though, and I decided on this stream literally at the last second because it came out the day I started streaming again,
was the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe. If you don't know, the Stanley Parable is a really weird game.
So it's sort of like, it's a game about meta, it's like a meta game
I guess you'd say
it's a game about
how games are
I think is how you'd put it
I don't know, it's a strange game that you need to play
and there's this narrator that's always
going over the action you're doing
and at certain points of the game
the narrator
acknowledges the fact that this is a game,
tries to convince you that you shouldn't be doing that action or encourage you to do another one,
wants you to be their friend.
And it's one of those games that's really hard to play.
Oh, really hard to explain, sorry.
But Ultra Deluxe is basically the original game remade in...
I believe it's released in Unity now?
It used to be a Source game.
Remade in Unity, and also there's new content.
So, when you go through the game, I don't actually know what the trigger is to get to the new content.
I just happened to get there.
I think you maybe need to go through a couple of of a couple of the regular endings and then it just shows up
Which is an interesting way to do it. You could buy this game. Think it's a new game
I think like an hour into the game. It still doesn't show you
Obviously if you're taking over each you're running that's different. But if you like taking it slowly an hour into the game
you're still not gonna get the new content yet.
And then it's just like, hey, the way it shows you to be extra certain that new content is available,
this is something to do with Ultra Deluxe, is there is a giant fucking neon sign that says
new content here. You're not gonna miss it, you're absolutely certain about
where it is. And the way they do new content, like, I don't even want to really spoil everything
that's going on. I haven't played all of it yet, but the early new content, um...
One of the things is, it shows you some of the new mechanics the game can have.
There is a...
There is a jumping circle.
So you go to this jumping circle.
And there's a little counter there that says how many jumps are available.
There's 36 jumps.
If you jump 36 times, you can't jump anymore.
That's the content they
added. And it's sort of like just taking the
piss of adding
making a sequel, making an
expansion pack.
You ultimately end up going to this place
because the narrator realized that
this is shit content.
I'm going to make my own Stanley
Parable Ultra Deluxe.
It's going to be so much better.
And before you do that, you actually go and you go down like a memory lane of the original Stanley Parable.
So you go to this place.
It's the memory.
The memory something.
The memory.
I don't know what it's called.
The memory something or other.
Someone who's played Ultra Deluxe will tell you.
I don't know what it's called. The memory something or other. Someone who's played Ultra Lux will tell you.
And In this place you'll see like screenshots of the original development. You'll see some reviews
This is the big thing that focuses on. You'll see reviews for the game. There is this really nice GameSpot review
I believe there was a really nice. I want to say a really nice IGN review and once you've gone over that
one of the other side doors open
and the narrator's like wait
I don't remember what was back here
I build all this nice place but
there's like a thing there, okay
let's find out, and you realise
that it was all of the
negative Steam reviews and
there's this one
there's this one guy that is a focus in the Steam reviews.
I'll see if I can find what his name was.
I think it was like Cookie or something.
Cookie9.
Yes, Cookie9.
So, here we go.
I don't even know if this was a...
If this was a if this was
actually a real review, people are
sort of like questioning if it is, I don't know if anyone's actually
found the review
itself
the first two reviews can be
found on
okay, so some of the reviews
some of the reviews are
like faked for the game, that's no
fun, I thought they actually went and found
some like actual um actual terrible reviews but like the the review section a lot of it is focused
around this guy called cookie nine and the narrator gets like really really pissed about this guy
and just like every time he just remembers it's like fuck this cookie night. I hate this cookie nine guy like who is this?
I've literally fixed everything with this game
one of the things that he was asking for was for a skip button because the narrator is really really annoying and
The way that segment ends is you go to this room and there is a skip button
It's just a big button on the like a big button on the pedestal
and the narrator will go in this like is just a big button on the, uh, like, a big button on the pedestal.
And the narrator will go on this, like,
really long ramble, being like,
hey, this is, this is this,
and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Like, literally gets to the point where he's just literally saying nothing and just saying words.
And you just keep clicking the skip button,
and every time you do so, the narrator's like,
Stanley, Stanley, we just, you just skipped clicking the skip button and every time you do so the narrator's like stanley stanley we just you just skip like an hour like i've i've had to just wait here for an hour like what are you doing and then you click it again it's like a whole day has passed and the
room around you the room around you just like starts collapsing and the the there's a plant there the plant dies
there's a hole in the roof that forms and nature starts growing through it and then
and then uh further down like all the lights black out and everything is just dark and you
just do it again and eventually get to this point where the whole building has just fallen apart, basically.
And you can walk outside.
And it's really unclear what's happening.
You finally escape the office.
You start walking and then the game resets.
The game resets and then you're back inside.
You're back inside the office.
And it seems like nothing's really changed.
inside the office and it seems like nothing's really changed. But actually was this before that segment? I think this might have been... there was a bit before
that segment where the... yeah there was. So the narrator shows you off... shows off
some of the things that can actually be done... no it was after that segment. Yes it
was after that segment. So you go
through that, you go back to the office, everything seems like it normally is, and
you get to the section where there was new content here, and the narrator's like,
okay Stanley, I've actually made new content. I'm gonna show it to you, come
to this developer expo, and you start seeing some of the things that are going to happen in this new game.
And one of the main focuses is,
um,
on this bucket,
this,
uh,
this emotional support bucket.
And that's going,
and that ends up being like a bit for the next like three hours.
Every time you go into the office again,
um,
there'll be this emotional support bucket there.
And the narrator explains everything you're doing in like the base game
from the perspective of you also having a bucket.
So you were like, you find out that everyone in the office is being mind controlled.
And the narrator's like, hey, look, Stanley looks towards the bucket and the bucket says,
Stanley, everything's fine.
Then you realize, wait, it's just a bucket
it's one of those, as I said, it's one of those
games where it sounds
really fucking stupid, because it is
but it's one of those games that is
really hard to explain
what's going on, all I
can say is the original Stanley Parable
was incredible, there's a
reason why it got a lot of awards the year it came out, is the original Stanley Parable was incredible. There's a reason why it got a lot of awards
the year it came out, and the new
Stanley Parable is
more of the Stanley Parable.
Like, there's...
If you enjoyed the original
Stanley Parable, then
there's no reason why
I can see, at least, that you
wouldn't enjoy Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
I left a stupid comment on a Reddit post and it's got fucking 50 upvotes.
So there was this stupid post I saw where...
I thought it was interesting to see that over on r slash Windows,
there are currently 285 users out of 257,000 readers.
Meanwhile, on r slash Linux, it's 822 out of 746,559.
Like, wow, look, r slash Linux has more people in it.
I'm just like, yeah, because people don't care they use Windows.
Like, no one cares.
There's no one joins the r slash water subreddit.
Don't tell me there's an r slash water subreddit.
The point I'm getting at here is no one.
Yeah, okay.
No, there is. There is an r slash water subreddit has 32 000 members let's go to r slash
coke like no one is there a coke there's not there's actually not an r slash coke well um
take i take back what i said no one cares about the boring thing the default thing that is just there. Windows is
what people expect to be on a computer.
So why would people
like, the fact there's 257,000
people there is surprising. I wouldn't be surprised
if it's like mainly Windows news
and full of developers.
But most people who use Windows
don't care they're using Windows. They just use Windows
because they use Windows.
But if you're using Linux,
even if you're
buying a system that has Linux
pre-installed, every
single person, except those people
who have their stupid
kid or their stupid grandson or whatever
go and install
Linux on their system, use
Linux because
they chose to use Linux. Nobody because Linux is something
is something you have to go out of your way to use. Nobody that is using Linux is using Linux
by chance. They are only using it because they chose to. So the fact that more people are on
the r slash Linux subreddit is not a surprise and shouldn't be a surprise to literally anyone.
But, you know, people like to make these really stupid posts because it seems like a good way to get upvotes.
Because everybody on, uh, everybody on Reddit is just constantly farming for upvotes because that's,
that's all this platform is. You get your, you get your upcomings. They don't mean anything.
Maybe you'll get an award. Maybe you get some Reddit gold. I don't even know what Reddit gold does, to be honest. Is it just a thing that you can just award to other people? I don't know.
You can buy coins?
I don't know what the coins do.
What? Actually, you know what?
We're going to find out right now.
What do Reddit coins actually do?
Reddit coins.
Are they literally just a way
to say that someone had a good post?
Coins are a virtual good you can use to award exemplary posts or comments.
Why do you have white text and a white background?
Support Reddit and encourage your favorite contributors to keep making Reddit better.
Support Reddit and encourage your favorite contributors to keep making Reddit better.
Yeah, it's just a way to donate to Reddit.
And give someone an award that means nothing.
I kind of want to see Reddit go down the crypto route. Like, they could very easily make a Reddit coin.
It would be hilarious.
And people would...
There would be this hilarious split.
Where you have the hardcore crypto guys
being like this is incredible
Reddit is embracing crypto
and then everybody else
being like
Reddit is fucking dead
Reddit is embracing crypto
make it happen, Reddit do it
I know that no one from Reddit
is listening to this,
but if someone happens to be who is in a high up position,
make it happen.
It would be the funniest thing.
Even if it's just like a...
Even if it's just a April Fool's joke.
If it's in...
Rather than doing another version of r slash place
you do a reddit coin, you do an actual
reddit crypto
I want it, I want it
I don't want it because I want it, I want it because it would be
fucking stupid and people would hate it
and the outrage, whether it's just on
the reddit outrage and the twitter
outrage and all of the outrage
it would be great
speaking of things that are possibly great,
but I don't really know because I haven't used them yet,
is Mozilla Firefox 100 is finally released.
And it is not exciting.
Imagine having a hundredth release of your application,
and the features it gets are...
Features.
So, what do we have?
Not all of these features are obviously going to be on Linux.
We now support captions slash subtitles display on YouTube, Prime Video, and Netflix videos you watch in picture-in-picture.
Yay. You can use subtitles in picture-in-picture. Yay.
You can use subtitles in picture-in-picture mode.
You're crazy.
So, so insane.
Picture-in-picture now supports video captions on sites that use WebVTT,
like Coursera and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Oh, big, big new feature.
On the first run after install, Firefox
detects when its language does not match the operating
system language and offers the user
a choice between the two languages. That's
actually kind of nice. Not really that exciting.
Firefox spellcheck
now supports spelling in multiple languages.
Cool. HDR
video on Firefox.
Obviously with HDR screens with no need to flip any preferences
to turn on HDR video. That's actually good. So it automatically handles that for you. Really good
feature. Hardware accelerated AV1 video coding is now enabled on Windows. Cool. Video overlay
is on Windows for Intel GPUs. Improved fairness
between painting and handling other events.
This noticeably improves performance
of the volume slider on
Twitch. What?
Wait.
Oh.
What?
Okay, I
didn't even know that was a problem.
Credit card autofill now supported in the United Kingdom.
I don't like storing my credit card details in my browser.
I'm one of those...
I am the biggest boomer when it comes to, like,
autofilling, like, my credit card.
I will manually type it out every single time.
Is it slower? Yes, absolutely, but
I'm gonna just do that. Uh, scroll bars on Linux and Windows 11 won't take space by default.
On Linux, I believe they are now, um, GTK scroll bars, which is cool. Uh, Firefox now ignores
less restricted referral policies, including unsafe URL, no referral and downgrade, and nothing that exciting.
Uh, yeah, this is, this is, this is the big, the big 1-0-0, the, the big Firefox 100, which is not ex- just not exciting at all.
Like, I'm, you would think that there would be, like, some big new feature, some crazy new thing you would do on version 100.
There's only going to be one version 100.
Granted, when I did episode 100 of this podcast, nothing special happened,
so I guess they're taking my approach.
The only reason to keep Firehawks installed is to check the latest version
still crashes on Sway reload.
What?
Okay, I didn't know it crashes on Sway Reload. What? Okay. I didn't know it crashes
with Sway.
No thanks. I'm going to use Firefox since they removed support
for Ulsa.
I know I can use hacks like
Apulse or Compile from Source.
What year are you
living in?
What?
What?
What year are you living in that you don't have...
That you are just using ULSA audio?
Like, sure, obviously, ULSA is the audio sound system used at the kernel level.
ULSA is the audio sound system used at the kernel level.
But most people don't use ULSA for their data usage.
They just let it run in the kernel and then use something at a higher level.
What is this?
Holo ISO Steam 3.0 ISO release.
Is this an official ISO?
What is this?
Steam... Wait, what is this?
Steam OS 3 Holo Arch ISO configuration.
What is this?
This project attempts to bring Steam Deck's
Holo OS
into...
Wait, have they changed?
What?
This project
attempts to bring Steam Deck's Holo OS
into a generic installable format
close to official Steam OS
experience. What the hell is
Holo OS?
Isn't that the name that you're using?
HoloOS.
I think that's just really weird phrasing.
I think they're saying that HoloOS
is a generic version of SteamOS.
I think that's what they're saying.
I don't think there is a...
There is actually a generic ISO at this point.
Like, for the actual release of SteamOS,
not this third-party ISO.
I know there is a recovery image,
but I don't think there is an actual ISO just yet.
Yeah, there is this Steam Deck image,
and that's all I'm seeing.
I've tried to use it on VirtualBox.
I know some people have got it to work,
but it requires, like, a lot more tweaking
than just, like, a regular ISO for, like, you know,
Arch or Ubuntu or anything like that.
And I just haven't really cared enough
to go through the process of trying to fix it
and trying to get it to actually
work properly.
Wait.
Hold the fuck up.
Persona 4 Golden is now verified
on Steam Deck?
No shot.
That game used to be busted
on Linux.
Steam...
Oh, wait, no.
We'll go to ProtonDB.
I know they have lists of verified games.
Persona 4 Golden.
I've been meaning to play Persona 4 Golden,
but I've been waiting for it to become a better experience.
I know it just didn't play super nicely on certain configurations.
This guy is still having problems.
But yeah, it's actually verified on Steam Deck.
Wow.
This game's first setup requires an active internet...
Does it?
I didn't know that. First setup requires an active internet... Does it? I didn't know that.
First setup requires
an active internet connection.
Huh.
Huh. I don't think Strikers
is fixed. Um, granted
I have Strikers on PS4 now
because I want to actually play
the game at some point.
Sonar 5 Strikers is bronze.
Ooh! So you can actually, you can potentially play the game to some extent, maybe?
It seems like it's still, uh, this guy, oh this guy got it to work.
Yeah, there's some people who've been getting it to work, wow.
Oh, this guy got it to work.
Yeah, there's some people who've been getting it to work.
Wow.
Oh, oh, these are Steam Deck... Oh, that's stupid.
Why have you done this?
Wait, they show the PC reports and the Steam Deck reports in the same page.
Is that just because it's small?
No, that's the way it's actually being done now.
That's just confusing.
I don't care about Steam Deck reports.
Can I just have, like like a tab here or something
or like some way to disable
on my profile that would be nice
but yeah people actually have been
getting it to work recently
that's cool
as I said though I bought it on console
because I don't want to fucking wait
yes
speaking of waiting,
you're probably going to have
to wait a bit more longer, a bit more longer,
a bit longer for the new
Intel GPUs.
So, they were initially
supposed to be coming out.
I think they're supposed to be out
by now, if I remember correctly.
So,
what Intel is saying is they'll be coming out at some point
during Q2. So what that ends up being, we'll have to see. And how fast they'll end up being,
end up being. I'm really curious. So, I don't know what the Linux support is going to be like.
What I do know is that Intel currently has GPU drivers on Linux for its integrated GPUs and they're good drivers. Granted they are for, you know, not very fast GPUs, but I am not particularly worried about seeing support, maybe not day one,
but maybe within like a week or so of launch. And I probably am not going to buy them or buy one on day one unless it's some
like insane performance and it does work well on Linux just because you know it's a new skew
that Intel is getting into it is a GPU which I've done before but but it's discreet. So I'd want to see like stability testing.
I'd want to see maybe even waiting for a second generation.
I'm probably going to stay with AMD for this round.
And then if Intel decides to keep this going and actually make it good,
we'll see what happens with a second generation of ARC GPUs.
Or maybe I'll buy an ARK
GPU near the end of its
life cycle or something like that
if I don't buy an AMD GPU sometime
at the end of this year.
The new AMD, I think
both AMD and Nvidia
are supposed to be coming out
the end of this year, early next year at this stage.
But obviously, you know, with dates being still relatively far out,
it's hard to say exactly when it's going to happen.
Things we can say are going to happen, though,
are the way that gaming companies and tech companies
like to name their stuff.
So AMD has their new line of CPUs coming out in 2023
and they might be good, they might be bad.
Hey, I don't really know yet.
What I want to talk about though is just the fucking names.
So the Enthusiast desktop line,
this is going to be the Raphael line.
This is Zen 4 DDR5, which is going to be very expensive. I actually
don't know DDR5 prices
how much more expensive it is right now.
I'll check in just a moment.
The Extreme Laptop. This is like
your gaming laptops.
This is the Dragon
Range, which is actually a really cool name.
The Dragon Range
CPUs. And then the Thin and Light
is the Phoenix CPUs. Like then the Thin and Light is the
Phoenix CPUs, like,
what are these names? Like,
AMD has always been
like this. I think my first,
I want to say my
first, yeah, my first AMD
CPU was a, uh,
an FX, I think
it might have been an 8350, actually.
It is a pile driver
CPU, which was the
successor to the bulldozer
CPUs
I like that
AMD's naming is a lot more
gamery than Intel's, where it's like
you had like
Sandy Bridge and Ivy
Bridge and Haswell
and Skylake and fucking Ice Lake.
Is Ice Lake one? I want to say that Ice Lake is one.
AMD has always been gaming. Obviously this is for like their...
This is like their... They're marketing these as gaming CPUs, but
they don't really have a non-gaming set of CPUs.
as gaming CPUs, but they don't really have a non-gaming set of CPUs.
Yeah, there is the ones that don't have like, you know, built-in GPUs, but even then, a lot of these probably won't. Like, the absolute highest end of the Raphael CPUs probably won't
either. Obviously, the names don't really matter. It matters what they can actually do. But we'll have to see what
that is going to be like when it actually
does happen. I do want to see
what
DDR5 prices are like
right now. I can't believe we're
on DDR5 already. I remember
a few years back, it seems,
where DDR3
was...
DDR3 was the thing that everybody was using.
Now DDR3 is at the bottom of the list.
So let's find DDR4 prices
and go with a couple of different ranges.
So price low to high.
One stick of 8 gig is $45.
Okay.
Uh, two sticks of six, uh, two sticks of eight is 95.
That's kind of crazy.
You can get 16 gigs for $95 though.
Uh, let's, this site has really bad sorting.
Uh, let's find 32 gigs.
really bad sorting.
Let's find 32 gigs.
So,
32 gigs, 2x16, $180.
And let's try 64 gig.
$400, 2x32.
Okay. Let's have a look at
DDR5 prices
then. So,
I'll go sort by price low to high.
Lowest tier.
Lowest tier is 32GB.
For $380.
So you can't even get 8GB and 16GB kits.
At least in Australia.
Maybe you can elsewhere.
But at least here
this is the minimum I'm seeing
so
32 gig over here
just double checking the price
um I think that's the price
of the 64 gig
32 gigabyte
yeah it's roughly double the price
okay so
the
64 gigabyte then if we can even get 64 gig... $800!
Yeah, it's about double the price right now. 5200 megahertz? 6400 megahertz? Wait, when did RAM speed get so high?
When did this happen?
I didn't even realize this had happened.
Wow, okay.
I think I'm running like... Yeah, I think I'm running like maybe 3,000 megahertz?
What the fuck?
DDR5 is a big jump then, wow!
That's- that's- that's crazy. I don't know what it would be like in um,
real world performance. Obviously if you go with like memory benchmarks, you can
like build situations where your megahertz does actually matter, but
real world performance is ultimately
what would be the most
important thing to consider.
And
obviously you need CPUs that
do benefit
from a higher speed
RAM.
But I'm probably going to
keep a hold of this CPU for a bit
until RAM prices become sensible.
Every time there is a new type of RAM,
it's always this ridiculous price.
I remember when DDR4 wasn't as bad
because there wasn't the part shortage at the time.
But DDR4, when it first came out, I think it still was double the price of DDR3.
But double the price was $400 instead of $200, for example.
Not like fucking $800.
$800 is more than I'd want to spend on my new GPU.
Actually, on that note, while we're on the topic of PC hardware,
there was this article that came out from the Intel CEO,
or this comment from the Intel CEO,
who says he thinks the chip shortage will last into 2024,
which is kind of interesting, and it sort of, it sort of goes against one of the theories that
Linus had, which is sort of playing out in Australia as well, but anyway, um, think 6th
semiconductor shortage will last in
2024. This will have
knock-on effect in the gaming space. The CPU
prices stay elevated.
That's part of the reason
we believe the overall semiconductor
blah blah blah.
Oh, this is a really short article.
Yeah, so,
the earlier estimates were in 2023.
Now it's in 2024, which I don't know when it's going to happen.
What I do know, though, is at least at this very moment, shit got very cheap.
So not very cheap, like cheap relative.
We go to the AMD line.
not very cheap, like cheap relative.
We go to the AMD line.
So the ARC
GPUs were supposed to come out
around now, but they
didn't because they got delayed.
So
this has led
to both AMD and
Intel massively
jacking up their production.
Turns out when you up your production even in a chip
shortage, prices come down. So about a month ago, this was $650. Now it is $550, which is more than
I want to pay. Normally $730 is not even like, that's just stupid. This is more than I want to pay,
but it's coming down,
and it's going to go back up
because they massively upped the production,
and we are at where we're at now.
The same thing is happening in certain places in the EU as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's happening on American markets.
Here we go.
Here's another one.
The 6700 XT.
I don't know when the last time it was at 1249 was.
I think though.
About a month ago it was over 1000.
Obviously high end is still just.
Genuinely stupid.
But high end is always stupid.
So. still just genuinely stupid but high end is always stupid um so we'll have to see what sort of effect this has going on into the future what i do know is the part shortage does seem at least from the
consumer perspective does seem like it's basically over, obviously prices are still jacked up,
but unlike the early days,
you're not
having trouble finding
hardware. Right now, prices are expensive,
but most things are in
stock. That's the difference.
And that's, I think, what's really confusing a lot of
people. Because it doesn't seem
like there is a part shortage,
a chip shortage when i right now
can buy like 10 gpus are they expensive gpus of course they are without a doubt but pretty much
anything i want to buy even if some of them i did that backwards. Even if some, like, some SKUs are, or some, uh, some products in a SKU are
out of stock, there's always, like, at least one thing. Like, this one's out of stock, but
you could buy this one for the same price. Or this one's out of stock, and this one's out of stock,
but you could buy this one. Um, 36 TI, 36 ti i think is in the in the range of mining
cards still so that's why a lot of those are out of stock um but like yeah it just it looks weird
from a consumer perspective and this is why there's a lot of people that are saying that
the tech companies are just scalping at this point because it looks like they're just scalping if i can buy a gpu why are the prices still so high like
why is it like that obviously there are supply chain issues that still do exist
but they have been alleviated to some extent and i have a feeling that Linus' theory may be correct,
that some of these supply chain issues may have been a bit overblown,
or may not have been overblown in the early days,
but have been overblown in the recent months.
It seems like there's no trouble at this point to get the parts out if you want to get them out. It seems awfully suspicious that at the original release date of the Arc GPUs,
that everyone else's GPUs suddenly become cheaper. Like that just seems odd.
And oh my camera just completely... What a frame to die on.
What an insane frame to die on.
I'm going to stop the recording for a second.
But, yeah, it does seem suspicious,
at least to some people.
So, I didn't have to reset my camera there.
I unplugged my cam link and replugged it in. So, I don't know what caused that.
Is my cam link overheating? It doesn't feel like it's that hot. Maybe there's an issue with the
cam link. I think what's probably for the best is, I've been wanting to do this for a while,
just hadn't got around to it, but that gives me a good enough reason to do so, I should probably replace all the cables in the line, so replace
the, I've got like a USB extender cable that like, because the Cam Link, it's sort of shaped like a
thumb drive, but a really fat thumb drive, um, I should replace the USB extender cable. I should also replace the HDMI to mini HDMI. What's it called?
Mini? I think it's mini HDMI. Is there a micro HDMI? The smaller HDMI connector. HDMI mini, yes.
Um, yeah, replace that as well and hopefully that alleviates the issue. Because earlier I've been having the flickering that I've had every so often.
I know it can't be the camera itself,
because if I unplug and replug it,
but not the camera itself,
then it shouldn't...
Yeah, there shouldn't be any reason how that could be the camera.
I think.
Maybe.
And if that doesn't work.
Then my next step.
I guess would be replacing the cam link.
Which I don't want to do.
How much is a cam link right now?
Cam link.
Amazon.
They are.
$180. How much did I pay for a cam link?
Oh, okay, maybe not that much.
Okay.
I thought I paid way less for it.
I paid $160.
Okay, so it actually wasn't that crazy.
Ignore me!
I'm freaking out over a price that doesn't matter.
It's like $10 more expensive. Yes, it's expensive, but... Ignore me. I'm freaking out over a price that doesn't matter.
It's like $10 more expensive.
Yes, it's expensive, but only $10 more expensive.
Things that would... Considering...
Things that would not be that expensive are buying an actual controller.
But instead of doing that, you could do this.
So, there is this controller that was released by Fisher Price.
This is like, it's the toy
controller. You can give it to
your little sibling
and they can play with that controller
rather than trying to play with the controller
actually connected to your system.
This is something I would do with my little sister
back when we were really young.
I would be playing on the PS2, I would give her the second
controller and she would just press buttons
on the controller. This is basically that
but in like a more toy format.
And this guy
decided to turn it into
like an actual functional controller.
And played Elden Ring
with it.
I'm going to mute that sound.
It's stupid. Here we go. It'll go up to where it sound. It's stupid.
Here we go.
It'll go up to where it's actually showing the gameplay.
Here it is.
Also, he's retained all of the sound effects
and everything the controller can do.
So it's a really annoying controller.
And you can fully play the game.
It is missing a thumbstick, though, which is a slight issue.
So there is this switch here and what that switch is gonna do is
turn this thumbstick into being the right thumbstick so you can't actually turn the camera and move at the same time.
But hey, you gotta gotta make some sacrifices. Also, it changes some of the face buttons as
well. I think this adds like a start and a select button as well, because there's not actually a
start and select button on here. It's such a bad idea, but I love it. I love it nonetheless,
and it sings to you. Why anyone would do this is beyond me but i respect the engineering i respect the engineering
people who like this is what happens when you give a uh when you give a youtuber a degree
like this is what happens when when you actually go through school and then you're like hey fuck that i want to fuck getting a real job i want to i want to make videos on the internet you just do stupid shit
i kind of wish i actually had some some electro engineering knowledge because i
like it seems like one of those things that i would, um, I would very much engross myself with.
I, it wouldn't be, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to, like, do that in my spare time,
you know, not playing, um, Vampire Survivors and FFXIV, actually use my time for, you know,
something productive outside of my very slow, um, very slow Japanese study,
which is still going, as I said, very slowly, though.
And it's not going to go any faster.
No matter what I do, it is not going to happen any faster.
But speaking of things that won't happen any faster,
I've been doing this podcast
for a while today and you know
what that means? It's time to
talk about some Final Fantasy 14
I'm not going to talk about something
that I did, I want to talk about
a weapon design contest that happened
because some of these
weapon designs are genuinely
incredible
so this happened about 6 days ago now, well the results were
released six days ago, but the weapon design contest, I don't actually know what happened.
Basically they went to the community and said design weapons and if you design them the winners
will make it into the game and I think the designers might also get some sort of reward as
well. But let's see what the weapons they have are. So first off are the Paladin weapons. So every
single job has two weapons. There are some that are missing. I think the yeah, so the weapon design
contest must have started before Reaper and Saber were released. So there's going to be another contest for those ones.
But this is the first
Paladin weapon. This is
a...
I know
those kanji, but I'm not sure
what it's saying here. And that really
bothers me. Let me go
to Jishou.
Let's find
the translation of the name. Some of the names
are in English. Some of them are not.
Do I recognize these kanji?
Uh, yoru no
yoru no umi.
Uh,
ocean
night, I guess.
The ocean of nights, I guess
you would call it.
Um,
it's a pretty cool looking sword.
So for anyone just listening, it's this...
It's got this hilt that is like the night sky.
Oh, not the hilt.
It's got this blade, sorry.
This blade that is basically like the night sky.
And it's got this...
This...
What do you call it? guard yeah the guard it's this
really like extravagantly designed gold handle and there's gold accents all over the swords and
it really looks like a paladin weapon this there's a lot of weapons in this game we where the paladin
weapons don't really look very paladiny i i guess it's not a good way to put it.
They look more like knight weapons is what I'm trying to get at.
They're like, it's a sword and a shield.
But when you think of paladin, you think of like, you think of a holy person.
You think of gold.
You definitely associate gold with a paladin.
You definitely associate gold with a paladin.
The Heavensward Knights do definitely get close to that aesthetic.
But this is an aesthetic that is sort of, at least from what I have seen,
is sort of desperately needs to be addressed.
But not every weapon is as serious.
Here is a sword and a shield,
which has the sword being a ladle.
I think it's a ladle.
Yes, ladle.
And then the shield is a pan.
A pan is a pot lid.
It's a pot lid, sorry.
With a bunch of cute character designs on it.
So, I'm not a big fan of this one, I'm not a big fan of this one.
I'm not a big fan of this one,
but I also like my characters to look cool rather than, you know, what this is.
But I'm sure for someone who wants to do a more,
what would you call it, like a cosplay build,
you want to play a paladin,
but you want to do like a chef cosplay,
for example. This would be a
good one to go with.
But my personal
aesthetics, I would probably go with
the first one.
This is the... So the second one
is the...
My god, don't give me
Katakana. This is
the...
You know what? We're going to just stick it into Google Translate
and just get it to read it out directly.
There you go.
Mandra's Kitchen Knight.
The entire thing is just Katakana.
Beautiful.
The Warrior Weapons.
This is where they start getting, like, really cool.
And it's hard to decide my favourite.
So the Warrior...
The first Warrior We weapon is this,
it's like a, it's like a chainsaw blade, but in a circle. It's like a circle blade.
It looks so different from every other warrior weapon in the game. It's got this like, got a, I guess a lever here that you would use
to turn the blade on. It's, I don't, yeah, it's, it's just like, it kind of feels more of the like
machinist, um, the machinist aesthetic, but if the machinist used an axe instead, I think it's a good
way to put it. And then we have this one which is a
this is the Bombfish Basher
which is basically a pufferfish
attached to a stick.
This one looks really cool.
The first warrior one looks
super cool.
But I do like the idea of a pufferfish
hammer.
I don't know which is my
favorite to be honest.
I hope that these would both be dieable.
This one would look really cool in like a
red or something like
that. And if this was dieable,
if you could change the blade colour,
but not the actual, um,
not the
chain colour. So like the
red blades here, I think, if you could make that
like blue or something
would be really cool. But judging by the way that 14 usually does its dying system,
probably wouldn't happen. So I'm going to say I like the first one more. Next one we have
is the Dark Knight. The first Dark Knight one, I don't...
I don't know how I feel about
the aesthetic going on here.
I really like this blade.
Like, the blade with this cutout
in the middle, this really
wide blade,
this, like, jagged points
on the end, all looks really cool.
And then it sort of...
It just devolves into this it seems like
it seems like two weapons put together like this this guard here and this i guess fire the
it just doesn't really fit in my mind i'm not a big fan of this weapon the uh the next one though
The next one though, this is like... It's...
It's one of those weapons that if you gave it to a samurai would make sense.
It's basically like a giant...
A giant katana blade.
I'm sure this weapon actually has like an actual name.
But it's a giant katana blade with like cherry blossoms on it.
It's got this pink hilt.
It's got this like flowery guard.
This one's definitely my favorite of the two.
Without a doubt.
I don't know.
I don't know what I would use as my like gear.
If I was using this weapon.
Maybe a more.
Maybe you'd want to go with like a more samurai aesthetic.
I think that could work. So you want to have like um... you want to use like a Yukata or a Hakama and use that instead. Or you
could have um... you could go for a more like a regular armor build, but have the armor be pink
instead. I think both of those would work pretty well.
Next up, we have the Gunbreaker. This is the Cerberus Fang, which looks really similar to
some of the weapons that I saw in Ruby. This is just a traditionally good Gunbreaker weapon. I
don't really know where the Cerberus comes into it, but it's just a Gunbreaker weapon. I don't really know where the Cerberus comes into it.
But it's just a gunbreaker
weapon. It looks cool, but
it doesn't look as
standout-ish
with
the other gunbreaker weapons
that exist. This one is
the...
What was this one? The
Summon or... Um... Ah, the Summon or Gunbreaker the what was this one the the summer nor
um at the summer nor gambolero the other shark sword that's what it was it is a
it's a shark sword I don't think we've had a shark sword in the game I think I
can't think of one at least and it's actually got like a shark aesthetic going on here
So like you have this eye it looks like an eye here and then the blade inside of it of these two
I would say this one is definitely more exciting this one
I can probably point to like ten other weapons of the game that just look fairly similar
Next up is the monk. I'm never I've never really been a fan of
monk weapons, but this has got like a Chinese dragon aesthetic to it.
It's the dragon's beard. A dragon's beard. The dragon's beard fists.
If you could dye this and get rid of the gold, I think it would look cool.
It looks cool as it is, but just not with the gear that I would typically wear.
cool. It looks cool as it is, but just not with the gear that I would typically
wear. I think this
also, when you have it
drawn, it has like
these floating
heart-shaped
fire blade
thingies? I don't know
what you'd call them. But they look pretty
dope. I think they're cool.
And then you gotta have a joke one, which
is the Major General's Jaws,
which is, you can go around punching
people with shark plushies.
And
this is cool.
This is super cool, but
I wanna do this. I wanna go around
and punch people with shark plushies.
I think everybody
is just gonna be like, yeah, that's
a great weapon.
The Dragoon ones are just...
I don't really care about Dragoon weapons.
Like, not really.
But you can go around fighting people with a cat toy,
which is the one that most people are probably going to use.
This one just looks like a spear.
It looks like a cool spear, but it just looks like a spear.
It's sort of got the same gunbreaker problem.
Where it's like, yeah, I've seen spears in the game that look kind of similar to this.
It's not a bad looking spear by any means.
But it's just a spear.
So like, I like this one more.
Ninja weapons.
We have this one.
Which I don't know how to read.
I don't know this kanji either.
Let's find out what the name is.
Didn't.
Oh there we go.
I thought it didn't paste it.
Or didn't copy it.
Sorry.
The.
So it means endure rap street. I thought he didn't paste it. Or didn't copy it, sorry. The...
So it means Endure Rap Street.
I don't know how you'd actually read this, though.
So this is a very Japanese-inspired blade.
We're going with the same...
Not as extreme as the Cherry Blossom blade from before.
But this one clearly has certain Cherry Blossom aesthetics from before, but this one clearly has certain Cherry
Blossom aesthetics to it. It's a shiny weapon. It's got Cherry Blossoms floating off of it.
I feel like there might be other knives that look similar, but it's just a cool looking knife,
and making a shiny weapon, most of the weapons in here don't actually have particle effects. I
think this one does. I think this one does?
Yeah, this one does. Okay. You know what? I changed my mind. This weapon actually looks pretty cool because of the particle effects, but
this is just a cool knife. This one is more of a...
Oh, that's actually cool. So one of them is a knife, the other is a fork.
Oh, that's actually pretty neat. I don't think there's a weapon in the game at all like this
also it's got a um
fuck what are they called
um
I don't know what those guys are called
it's got a little character on the top as well
which also is nice
I think from a
you wanna RP as cool ninja
character this is obviously better
but I wouldn't be surprised if the knife and fork ends up From a you wanna RP as cool ninja character. This is obviously better.
But I wouldn't be surprised if the knife and fork ends up being the one that is more popular in the game itself.
Next is the samurai.
So we have traditional samurai weapon.
This is just...
It's a katana. Like... What do I say about it? it's a katana like what what do i say about it it's a katana
they all they all look the same you do get you do get like two katanas which is cool but like
they're both just katanas what do i say about this one though the lavender Lavender Bloom is an umbrella katana.
I don't think there's one of those in the game at this point.
So when the scabbard for it is an umbrella,
and you bring the sword out of the umbrella, it just looks cool.
I like it. Hidden blades are cool.
And they actually made a 3D model for it. That's cool.
I don't think any of the others did. I think the rest
of them were just, they
drew it, and we'll leave it up
to SE to implement it in the game.
But obviously SE would make their own stuff, but this
gives sort of like a
sort of like a baseline to work
with. The bard
weapons. So we have this
bow that is very flowery. There's like a lot
of like leaves growing off it. There's a bird
on it. It's just overall
good looking bow.
It's just good looking bow.
I don't like a lot of the
bows in the game. A lot of the bard bows
are really big.
Like a lot of them have like harps
built into them. I get it. It's a bard.
The bard is a character that's like
a musical character as well, but
I kind of like my bows just
being bows.
The next...
I hadn't actually seen this one. So this one
is just a tree branch,
but with a squirrel on it.
And it looks cute. There's also a nut on it.
Oh, so a squirrel's there, because the squirrel's trying to get to the nut.
Uh, the...
The... The...
The arrow...
The arrow holder...
The quiver.
The quiver is basically like a...
It's a bit of bark that's been hollowed out
and it's got some leaves on it.
Fuck, this is a tough one, actually.
I think
this one dyed could look really,
really cool. Especially if the dyeing worked well
oh I don't know which one I like more I think I would end up running the the first one but I can
totally respect anyone and I feel like this one would be more popular uh, the squirrel one, um, okay, so the machinist, we have this pretty cool looking
sword, a sword, pretty cool looking gun, and rather than being a metal finish, it's a ceramic finish,
I think that's what makes it stand out, it's got these gold, these gold accents to it as well,
it's a cool looking sword overall, but the fact that it's a ceramic finish
I feel like would make it stand out compared to a lot of the weapons in this game.
But we also have this one, which is my favorite.
This is a gun hidden in a bouquet of flowers. Bokeh? Bouquet? However you want to say it.
It's just a cool looking sword. Cool looking gun. It's just a cool looking sword. I keep thinking sword.
Cool looking gun.
It's just a cool looking gun.
I would probably use this, especially if you could dye the flowers.
If when you dye this, the flowers change colour,
you could have like blue flowers, green flowers,
fucking black flowers.
This is the better one, without a doubt.
But I think this is also cool looking as well.
Next.
The Dancer weapons are my favourite.
So a lot of the Dancer weapons.
Because the Dancer is like a ranged character.
That throws out these.
I don't know what they're called.
It throws out these discs.
A lot of the weapons are just like disc weapons.
This one is a sword. I keep saying sword accidentally,
but this one is actually a sword. So you have obviously the disc like the dancers use,
but there is this blade coming out the top as well. So it looks like they could be in... they
could fight in close combat if they really wanted to. And it's this nice ice color as well.
I just like this one.
I just think this one...
I don't know how it would die.
I feel like it would get like a shoe to it if it died.
I think a red dye to it could look pretty cool though.
I think it could work actually quite well.
What was the other dancer weapon?
Oh, okay. The other dancer weapon? Oh, okay.
The other dancer weapon is like an actual dancer weapon.
So this is a bunch of torches.
It's just a bunch of torches.
And it spins and fire wheels.
And I like this one.
I do prefer the blade.
But dancing around with like a bunch of torches in your hand, I do like
it.
I do definitely really like it.
What was the next one?
Next is the Black Mage.
The Black Mage is a lantern, and the lantern is blue.
Oooh. That's cool looking. lantern, and the lantern is blue. Ooh!
That's cool looking. It's very thin
stuff, which
you take it or leave it,
but... Wait, this
would be black mage and white mage?
Ooh!
Ooh! That looks
not... I do like that.
The next one is a bunch of teacups on a staff with, like, the staff is a giant spoon.
This goes in the same category as the paladin weapon from earlier, where...
You know, for someone running around with that one, it would look pretty cool.
But, like, for me, I'm not a super fan of it.
Next one.
Scholar weapon.
The books.
There's only so much you can do to make a book look cool.
So.
We have this book here that's got a lot of gold accents.
It's got this bird on the top of it as well.
It's a book.
That's the one thing I don't like about playing Summoner.
All of the weapons just...
They look pretty boring.
They're not that exciting, to be completely honest.
But this one is more of like an adventurer book.
So we have this leather-bound book.
I think there is already a similar-looking book in the game.
Not like a book you can equip,
but similar-looking assets in the game already.
But this one's got a carbuncle little, I guess, amulet thingy on it.
It's got the different Grand Company seals on it.
It's got a phoenix feather to write with.
This is definitely my preferred one.
And it fits in perfectly with a lot of outfits already. Like it doesn't really stand out.
It looks like it's just a book. So when you like bring it out as a weapon,
it works pretty well.
Red mage. Red mage has a staff and it's little like floating thing.
This is... we've got this like yellow staff here with...
I don't know what the... the aesthetic here is supposed to be. There's some sort of like head here.
I don't know what the head is actually intended to be.
I do like fire. Fire is cool. I think the fire is too yellow, but I think,
I think this could look pretty cool. Um, but you got to have your joke weapon. This is the,
okay. Of the two that are here, I think this one looks, I think this one looks okay.
I think the fire needs to be either blue or you go hardcore with the red
aesthetic and make it like a deep red flame which I think would look nice. But
then you gotta have the joke one which is fighting with an umbrella and you
could dye it red so you can have a... you could have your red umbrella and then like a little floating dude who like... Oh, man.
Of these two,
I would probably use this one,
but if this one here got reworked
to be a more red flame
or a...
Or more orange flame
as opposed to yellow.
I'm no big fan of yellow.
That's my big problem.
Yellow is just my least favorite color.
With a more orange flame here, that one would be my favorite.
How many more do we have?
Oh my god, there's so much more.
Oh no, those are the...
Okay, those ones are a lot of the second place and honorable
mentions. Next
one is the Blue Mage. We have
another umbrella. There seems to be
an umbrella aesthetic going on here.
I don't know why there are so many umbrellas,
but I'll take it. And
then there's also a Blue Mage cane.
Both look pretty cool.
I don't play blue mage though.
So like.
Yeah.
And then.
For some reason.
White mage is at the end.
But these would also be.
Black mage stuff as well.
I didn't realize that.
So we have this crescent moon stuff.
With this. I guess tree branch
aesthetic as well? So it's like a tree... Oh I didn't notice that there's a rabbit in
there as well! So there's a rabbit sitting on the crescent moon attached to
a tree branch with a flower at the bottom. That's actually pretty cool.
And then obviously you've got to have another food one,
which is a giant
fork
with a bit of cake on the end.
We have some other books here.
We have the
Codex of
the Lost Pallet.
This is a very unique looking book.
Most of the books in the game look like books.
Like, you know, you open them, it looks like a book.
But you don't have to have it be a book.
Like, there are other things you can fit into the book format
that would look pretty cool.
This is more of a, like a color palette.
A painter's...
What do you call it?
The color...
Is it a swatch?
Color...
Yeah, color swatch.
It's like a painter's color swatch.
Which obviously doesn't fit the general aesthetic of the job.
But it's a nice change from,
hey, look, it's a book.
Hey, look, it's a book.
Another book, another book, another book.
And, ah, here we go.
We have the last of the books.
This is very much a scholar aesthetic.
So these are both the fairies that you can summon
while playing the scholar. The only problem with this one, it's very very
bright. The problem with anything that is very bright like this is it's very hard
to fit in other aesthetics. Like if you want to use this with any sort of gear
that is not specifically designed around this
weapon, it is going to stand out.
Plus there is not many items in the game that get this bright.
So even then trying to match it would be pretty hard.
I think if the colours were toned down a bit, it would destroy the feel that's going on
here, but I wouldn't use this.
So of the books, I'd probably use the Color Swatch or the Leatherbound book here.
I think both those probably look the best, at least to my eyes.
I think lastly, lastly, yes, lastly is the Astrologian.
So they fight with globes, with their Astrologian orbs.
So this one is like a star globe with, you've got like telescopes
and other reading material, like measurement reading material
coming off of it.
And on the globe, there is star signs.
That's cool.
Not star signs.
Constellations.
That one.
Constellations.
That one looks really cool.
It's also got, like, subtle lighting on it as well.
And it does have a gold aesthetic.
Like, a lot of the things in this contest seem to have a gold aesthetic.
But I think it's muted enough where I would probably run this.
And then the last one.
The last one is very different.
So the last one doesn't look like any of the other globes in the game.
It is a snow globe.
How there wasn't a snow globe before confuses me. Huh. Like, this is what I mean by keeping it within the fit of the job,
but breaking the aesthetic. Like, the color swatch looks different. The snow globe looks different.
There are probably some really cool ones in the finalists as well
but we're not going to go through all of them
I'm going to scroll through and see if I find anything
oh why did this one
not make it
this is one of the axes
this is like a
it's a tree axe
a wooden axe
with the axe blade
being this flower
aesthetic.
Man, why didn't that
make it? Also, there's some
hammers in here for the, um,
there's a hammer in here for the
warrior as well.
Any other cool ones for the, any
of them?
Some of, ooh.
Oh, why didn't this make it?
Okay, I guess I think I know why
it didn't make it, because the
shark one made it.
You could also go around punching people with a cat.
If
the shark one wasn't there,
that would have definitely made it.
I can see
the, um, I can see the
Rock Lee fans. I can see the Rock Lee fans
I can see the Rock Lee fans
wanted this one
it's a very basic weapon
it's just the hand being wrapped in
in tape
but
I would probably run that to be honest
it's the most
basic monk weapon in the entire game, but it does
look pretty dope.
Some of the Dragoon
weapons, I think, look better
than the ones that were selected, to be honest.
This person just learnt
what contrasting colours were.
Let's make it blue and orange.
Because contrasting colours always look good, right?
Right?
Well, no.
Wait, is this a rabbit?
What is this?
It is a rabbit holding a carrot as a ninja weapon.
I like that one, but...
Yeah, I just like that one, to be honest.
Samurai?
They're a thing...
Is this just a flame katana?
This is just a flame katana.
Okay.
Why did no one want to give the samurai a lightsaber?
Like, actually, why not a lightsaber?
Break out your aesthetic, damn it.
Everyone else did.
Anything else?
Ooh!
One of the dancer weapons was going to be a rose.
Ooh!
I kind of wish that one made it now.
Wow.
What is this one?
Why didn't this one make it?
This is one of the, um...
The Black Mage and Conjurer ones.
So it's like a...
It's a black staff with some blue accents.
But for the top of the staff...
I'm guessing that's like a...
A black hole.
How would you explain that in lore?
Doesn't matter.
Doesn't...
Don't worry about it whatsoever.
Oh, there's another painter one here for the summoner.
I think I prefer the other one.
But this one definitely...
No, I definitely prefer this one.
This is so much better.
It's a lot more going on also. You've got the
the symbol here that you see a lot in the game I
Think I prefer this one. I'm kind of sad the other one made it through
Anything else in here blue mages are all blue mage stuff wait do blue mages not have a moogle wand
Every other job has a moogle weapon, why did...
Okay, I didn't realize that. Actually, maybe some of the new ones don't.
Uh, one of the scholar weapons, there is a book here that is surrounded by an octopus, so I guess you would have like found this under the ocean.
an octopus, so I guess you would have like found this under the ocean.
Wait, not the cover, it's just like a bunch of a bunch of octa- so on the um the page itself, just a bunch of octopus ink. I actually do like that one, that's actually pretty cool.
Um, one of the astrologian ones here is a lightning sphere. Oh no, it's not a lightning
sphere, it's a bright sphere. It looked like lightning in the smaller image.
Yeah. Um...
Ooh, there is a...
Is this a fishbowl?
What is this? Yeah, it's like a
fishbowl sort of thing. That's cool.
And then the
last one...
Ooh!
Ooh!
That's a cool
Astrologian weapon.
Man, I'm kind of sad
some of these ones didn't make their way through.
So the rewards you actually got.
The grand prize.
Implementation of the winner's design in the game.
I am excited to see these weapons come out.
I hope that I can put them into my armor.
Not my glamour dresser.
Because I don't want to fucking fill it up more.
And you also get the fashion accessory.
Great Parasurpent.
Which is an umbrella.
Also a set of the following in-game items.
The blue bird earring,
the scarf of wondrous wits,
the mandragora...
Oh, that's what they were called, mandragoras.
The mandragora choker,
the aramon choker.
Ooh, that's a cool barding.
The gale cap,
which is a gale Cat Cap.
And also.
Oh you get a hairstyle.
The Strife hairstyle.
That's neat.
That's neat.
I wouldn't change that hairstyle.
But I'm sure some people like that hairstyle.
Nice.
Really nice.
I'm excited to see these weapons actually make their way into the game i don't know how they're going to give them to the player maybe an event or maybe they'll put
them in a raid or something i hope they don't put them in or put them in a fucking end walker
raid or something so i don't get them for absolutely ages and everybody around me already
has them i think it could be cool to make them PvP weapons.
That would be really neat and it would bother a lot of people who don't like PvP, but
that's their problem, isn't it? Apparently we've been going for two hours already, so
I guess we're going to end there, even though I didn't cover most of the things I wanted to cover.
To be fair, it's going to make Ransom's job easier because there
is less notes to take about
how many times I change topics.
So,
yeah.
Also, there's not going to be like
20 different splits
on when I jump between different things.
I think I spent like half an hour talking
about the, uh,
half an hour talking about the weapon designs.
So, yeah.
It's going to be fun trying to find clips to talk about that aren't literally a quarter of the show.
But that's a future problem.
And now a problem is signing off the show.
So, thank you guys for watching.
As always, I have been Brodie Robinson.

yeah we'll see how that goes
I don't expect it to go very well but maybe it will Neither of us have ever played Jump King. So, yeah, we'll see how that goes.
I don't expect it to go very well.
But maybe it will.
Maybe I'm just like a Jump King god and I have no idea about it.
But knowing my luck, I'm going to get stuck in the first area for like five hours.
Podcast is available as an audio release. As I mentioned earlier, plus 10K views, which is great.
Thank you to all the guys
