New episodes will drop every Friday. I like it a lot. And folks on my team are also really, really big fans. If you haven't seen it, it starts Jason Sadekis as a guy
Starting point is 00:01:32 named Ted Lasso who's a football coach based in the US. But the conceit of the show is that he gets called over to the UK to coach a soccer team, even though he knows nothing about soccer. And the reason he's really able to keep his head above water and actually succeed is that he deploys the tried and true tactic of being a high quality human being. In other words, he's very, very nice. So the question for all of us is, how can Ted and how can you remember to be kind when you're under a lot of pressure? Just as in sports, the answer is, of course, practice.
Starting point is 00:02:01 And to that end, 10% happier has created a free pack of meditations to help you cultivate kindness in your everyday life. Take a few moments to do whatever helps you to shift gears.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I usually like to look around the room, orienting to my surroundings. You might want to take a few deep breaths, relaxing your jaw and your shoulders. And whenever you're ready, go ahead and let your eyes close or let your gaze be soft. Feel your body sitting and breathing. In this session, we'll experiment with some different ways to find a genuine sense of kindness for oneself and for others. Approaching relationships with some warmth and care can go a long way to work through a rough patch and bring us together. It's not always easy to find, so it's helpful to have some reliable ways to get back to a
Starting point is 00:04:10 baseline of goodwill. As you tune into the breath, see if you can get a sense of its natural rhythm. Our life depends on it, so each in-breath is like a little gift. Each out-breath brings some ease and relaxation. Check this out and see if you can sense the simple kindness of allowing your body to breathe quietly. Next, let's use our imagination to bring up the sense of care and goodwill. I'm not talking about some rare, special state here, just that ordinary, simple sense of kindness. I invite you to think of a good friend. Someone you enjoy spending time with who it's easy to be around. Go ahead and let that person come to mind. You might even get an image of them.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Imagine them smiling at you, really looking right at you. Now, notice how you feel. What's it like to think of this person? As you reflect, you might notice some warmth in the center of your chest, or a pleasant Let yourself really take it in. Let it nourish you. When you're ready, you can let your eyes open. Bring your attention back into the room and the space around you. Thanks for joining me. Thank you, Orin, and we'll see you right back here on Monday for a brand new episode with Dr. Cristiana Wolf. We're going to talk about managing pain, in meditation, and in your life. [♪ OUTRO MUSIC PLAYING [♪ Hey, hey, prime members.

What does happiness really mean? How do I get the most out of my time here on Earth?
Starting point is 00:08:21 And what really is the best cereal? These are the questions I seek to resolve on my weekly podcast, Life is Short, with Justin Long. If you're looking for the answer to deep philosophical questions like, what is the meaning of life? I can't really help you. But I do believe that we really enrich our experience here by learning from others. And that's why in each episode, I like to talk with actors, musicians, artists, scientists, and many more types of people about how they get the most out of life.
Starting point is 00:08:49 We explore how they felt during the highs. And sometimes more importantly, the lows of their careers. We discuss how they've been able to stay happy during some of the harder times. But if I'm being honest, it's mostly just fun chats between friends about the important stuff. Like if you had a sandwich named after you, what would be on it? Follow Life is short wherever you get your podcasts.
