I'm Dan Harris.
Hey, as many of you know, all week on the show, we've been talking about a huge issue,
the very human tendency to be dissatisfied with our bodies, to compare ourselves to other
people on Instagram, to obsess over food, etc.
As the week has progressed, you may have noticed we've gotten increasingly practical about
how to deal with this issue, and that practicality trend culminates in today's bonus meditation.
Instead of scanning your body all the time for imperfections,
we're gonna teach you how to scan
with some degree of gratitude.
Just to say, if you're like me and have a resistance
to anything that might feel forced or maybe a little gooey,
I will give you the advice that I wish somebody
had given to me many years ago,
which is to get over yourself.
The science very strongly suggests that techniques like the one you're about to learn
actually do work, or in the words of one meditation teacher.
If you can't be cheesy, you can't be free.
Our teacher today is Anushka Fernandipoli. She works as an organizational consultant and
leadership coach. She's practiced meditation for more than 25 years, including four years in full-time intensive training in
monasteries and retreat centers in the US, India, and Sri Lanka. And I do want to say that although
we're wrapping up the anti-diet series here on the podcast this week, there's a lot happening
over on the 10% happier app. The anti-diet challenge featuring the intuitive eating
expert, Christy Harrison, kicks off on Monday, December 6th. You may have heard me mention this
before, but the approach that Christy teaches in the challenge has made a huge difference in my life.

Okay, over now to Anushka.
Hi, this is Anushka.
Today we're going to practice gratitude towards our own body.
So, we'll take some time to appreciate this body and the things that are working that
we might take for granted.
Often, we overlook how things are going, and only focus or obsess over those things
that are problems.
So take a moment first to just notice the body.
As we're sitting or lying here, settle into a comfortable posture, you can keep your
eyes open or closed.
You can feel the whole body.
And just take a moment to appreciate our aliveness.
It's something we might take for granted, but that's not a given. You can take a moment to bring the attention to the head, to the face. that work. Whether it's sight or smell or taste or hearing, thinking,, you can feel gratitude.
You can shift the attention to the torso. So many aspects of the body, the lungs breathing, the heart pumping, stomach digesting.
All of this happening without our intentional effort. You can have gratitude for the body and the legs, so the limbs that move that help us to reach things to walk around.
Including our hands, our feet. So just having gratitude with our ability to do what we can do, feeling the body as a whole again.
Again, feel grateful for our aliveness, sense of mystery for how all this works.
Get all gratitude for the body. When you're ready, you can open your eyes.
Reconnect to the space around you if your eyes were closed.
You can continue with your day from the space of gratitude.
So, thank you.
Until the next time.
Thank you, Anushka. And we'll be back here on Monday for a brand new episode about one very powerful aid
for habit formation and behavior change which is very tricky for a lot of us. So that's coming up on Monday.
My guest is Richard Thaler, author of a book called Nudge. We'll see you then.

Celebrity feuds are high stakes.
You never know if you're just gonna end up on page six
or Du Moir or in court.
I'm Matt Bellissi.
And I'm Sydney Battle,
and we're the host of Wondery's new podcast, Dis and Tell, where each episode we unpack a different iconic celebrity feud.
From the build up, why it happened, and the repercussions.
What does our obsession with these feuds say about us?
The first season is packed with some pretty messy pop culture drama, but none is drawn out in personal as Britney and Jamie Lin spears.
When Britney's fans form the free Britney movement dedicated to fraying her from the infamous
conservatorship, Jamie Lynn's lack of public support, it angered some fans, a lot of them.
It's a story of two young women who had their choices taken away from them by their controlling
parents, but took their anger out on each other.
And it's about a movement to save a superstar, which set its sights upon anyone who failed
to fight for
Brittany.

We'll talk about what went right and wrong.
What would we do differently?
And the next time you step on yet another stray Lego
in the middle of the night, you'll feel less alone.
