It's the 10% happier podcast. I'm Dan Harris.
Happy Friday everybody, time for a bonus meditation. Our teacher du jour is Emily Horne and in this practice she's going to talk about something
she calls tuning your inner compass.
A little bit about Emily before we jump in here.
She's on the core team over at Buddhist Geeks, which integrates technology, culture, and meditation. She is authorized to teach meditation by the
Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society, and Insight LA, and she has been called
a power player of the mindfulness movement by Wired Magazine. Here we go now with Emily Horn.
Hi, this is Emily.
Without a good compass, it is hard to have a sense of direction.
Our inner world is much the same.
If we don't look inside ourselves,
it will be hard to know what we want and need.
This meditation will support you
in connecting to your motivation
and fine-tuning your aim in life.
You'll do this by asking a question
and then noticing what comes up.
Let's begin by settling into this moment a little bit more
by noticing your body and the environment you are in.
Feel the contact you have with the ground and sense the air on your skin. As you ask yourself the questions I'm about to lead you through,
simply notice what arises and allow it to pass,
like clouds passing in the sky.
The first question is a simple one, what is happening now?
Notice any thoughts that come up.
Allow your attention to gently rest with the words as you ask again. What is happening now? Now, I invite you to explore what your question is. Simply and gently ask,
what is calling for deeper exploration?
I'll give you a few moments. Feel your body and the environment you're in as you ask again, calling for deeper exploration. Sometimes when we ask an open-ended question, the thinking mind can get stirred up.
It can look like racing thoughts, stories of self-doubt, and trying to figure it out.
When that happens, can you soften?
What is calling for deeper exploration? If nothing has come to you right away, that's okay.
This practice may continue to work on you.
You've planted the seeds and started the process.
You're already on your way to discovering what you need.
Whenever you want to work with this practice of inquiry,
simply remember the body breathing. Sense the contact with the earth of inquiry. Simply remember the body breathing.
Sense the contact with the earth beneath you.
And ask a question.
Thank you for your dedication and practice.
Until next time, take good care.
Thank you, Emily.
