So we do an extra nugget.
Yes.
We have a little extra slice.
We have a show and tell.
You have something hidden up your shirt.
I certainly do.
Okay.
It's a piercing.
So something that brings you joy.
Please reveal all.
Greg.
Oh, it's a carving.
It's a carving of a deer.
It's beautiful.
It's not beautiful.
It is.
The whole point is.
No, no, it is.
That it's a tremendously.
Bad piece of carving.
It's very heavy.
It's very heavy.
Story is...
It is lovely.
Look how smooth it is.
It looks like the deer is vomiting.
It is vomiting.
We call it the vomiting deer.
Our son, Tindi Abwa, who's Rwandan,
when he was probably 17 or 18,
went to see a mate in Dublin.
And there was a market,
and there was obviously an African trader there.
And Tins bought this.
I think the first thing he probably ever bought
and gave it to us as a Christmas present.
And we were just, we were so touched, we were so delighted, we couldn't believe it.
Oh God, things, that's just the, it's glorious.
Oh, thank you so much.
Oh, we're so beautiful.
La la la la.
Within a few years, he realized, and again, it's very fascinating, people from a whole other place,
realizing the nuances of the place they now found themselves living.
that we were lying.
Oh no!
It is absolutely horrific.
Sorry, just keep it still for a moment.
I'm taking it in.
So this is a deer...
This is a carved deer.
Deer, and it's chewing the top of a plon.
It's an African car.
No, the reason it's chewing that
is because I think the man who made it,
or the lady who made it,
thought that if there wasn't a very good heavy support here,
the legs would break.
It's one piece of wood.
Yes, it's one piece of wood.
But look, it really does look like the deer's vomiting, doesn't it?
No, actually, I quite like it.
Okay, you quite like it.
I quite like it.
But the glory of it is that, okay, if were Dame Mrs. Wise to be here,
she would say he's a fool, it is gorgeous because Tindy gave it to her.
And all of these reasons.
But Tins found out a few years later that we just thought it was quite ghastly.
as a result
it was either smuggled
into various pieces of luggage
or photographs of it
were smuggled into various pieces of luggage
because we'd travel a lot with our work
for many years
and it would always make us giggle
we'd be unpacking it but I mean this is quite a heavy thing
It is heavy! I think I probably only put it
in one of M's bags when she was going to America
you know, hold all bag and she did her
of course top gag
and then after that it was just
I think a Polaroid photograph of it
would just be slipped into things.
And of course, and you just giggle and you giggle.
We will never, ever get rid of this.
I'd always said it was going to go on the fire,
but we will never get rid of this
because it just is invested in so much.
It's about Tindy, it's about our ideas of what beauty is.
It's about the great, about the politess.
You're always going to say, anyone gives you something.
Oh God, thank you. That's so lovely.
But Tins now just giggles because he knows that we're being polite
with it. But it also brings you joy
because of the gags that
it brought. It's been a top
I mean the life that this
has had has been sensational
so long made at last
brings me great joy.
