So for our extra nugget of joy, our show and tell, as we call it.
Lovely, Jake, what is the thing that brings you most joy?
Or things?
Yeah, I live between London and New Orleans and both places.
And in both of my, you know, my house in New Orleans, my apartment here, I have a shrine.
And my one in New Orleans is for David Bowie.
and my shrine here is now to my dog
who passed away a couple months ago
Oh, I'm sorry
Thank you, no, it was his time
And what was his name?
Toby
Oh, Toby
Little Border Terrier, he's 15 and a half
But I
I get candles from New Orleans
You know, we've got these great sort of voodoo apothecaries down there
One of my best friends kind of runs the main
Voodoo shop there
So I get candles and incense
and, you know, rope incense.
And I light everything up.
And just watch it go.
Just light all the candles.
Get all the smoke going.
And put on some Bowie and sit there and watch it.
And usually we'll have a conversation with Bowie or my dog.
I don't know if that sounds strange.
No, it doesn't at all.
But that brings me joy.
And I love having those shrines.
And they sort of grow over the years.
years too once you sort of start them.
How big are the shrines?
Not massive, but my Bowie Shrine is multiple levels now.
And yeah, you just start putting more photos up, more candles, more...
And does it bring you comfort?
It does, yeah, it does.
And it's nice to have a ritual, even if it's just a couple times a week.
We would go to it and light it up and watch it go, smell it.
And tell me about Toby.
Toby, I had since he was about...
you know, eight weeks old, border terrier.
Did he travel with you?
Did he fly with you?
He would travel with me some, but I brought him over here for the last year of his life.
So we had a great last year together.
He was just my best friend in the whole wide world.
I miss him terribly, but I think about him all the time.
He was just, he was an amazing dog.
He was my, you know, he was almost my buffer.
I sort of, he's like a balm.
And it's tough when they're gone.
I talk to him still.
Sometimes I'll just talk to his photos when I'm getting ready to leave the house or whatever.
Because it's funny, his last few years he was there, he was deaf.
But I still would just talk to him.
Oh, you talk to deaf, Toby.
Do you know what?
I need to see a picture of Toby.
Have you got one on your phone?
I do.
It's right.
Right, let's get a picture of Toby.
Need to see a picture of Toby.
Oh, there he is.
Oh, look at him.
Oh, my goodness.
He's so cute.
He was a very handsome, handsome, handsome, handsome porter terrier.
That photograph of him looking around the corner at you.
That's what he's still doing.
He's keeping his eye on you.
Yeah, I just, the joy he brought me in my life is, you know, it was amazing.
And it was just such a great relationship.
And I can't wait to have my next.
sweet dog friend.
Are you going to get another dog?
Absolutely.
But I just, it's hard right now because I'm single and working like I am at the moment.
It's going to be really hard to raise a puppy.
I feel like a puppy.
You sort of have to have a partner to raise a puppy with.
Well, you could, no, but you're coming to live with us because I want to take you home and that's it.
And we can, we go to puppy.
We can do it all together.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
My husband, my two daughters, it'll be fine.
That'll be fun.
We'll be singing musical theater around the house.
Amazing.
Okay, perfect.
Sorted.
Jake, thank you.
Thank you.
