Starting point is 00:00:17 Extra Friday nugget of joy. And there's somebody who brings in joy and brings in food. Real healthy, unprocess your diet with easy everyday recipes, Melissa Hemsley. Your book is a reason to be joyful. What is your thing that brings you joy that you've brought in? Let me rummage around in my bag. I love that I don't know. So in my head...
Starting point is 00:00:42 What are you thinking, Gabby? I'm thinking it's food-based. or baby summer base. Oh, really? Ed is hope now, Ed, who if you listened to the podcast on Tuesday, you'll know that Ed loves cauliflower. He's probably hoping that it's cauliflower. No, there is a jar.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Well, there could be cauliflower in it. Right. Well, they are both for you, Gabby, but maybe you'll have to share a little bit with Ed. But these are things that bring you joy. These are things that bring me joy. Now, let me tell you why. It's got my name on the top.
Starting point is 00:01:09 It's got your name on it. And they're reusable jars, which I knew like. So this morning, I was sat, I live in North London on a row of terrace houses, and I've got a little paved stone garden. And I got out my bird feeder, which I couldn't bring. So I've got like three little things that are all intertwined. If you don't mind me saying, I wanted to bring a bird feeder because the birds bring me such a huge amount of joy. And my dear departed dad, I found a little notebook he kept in the last days of his illness.
Starting point is 00:01:37 And he was noting down the different birds, because he was sort of bedbound, writing down the different birds that were passing his window. And on one of them... I can hear a buzzing. Is that your fan? Can you hear a buzzing? Oh my God, I turned my fan on when I went in. God, you've got good.
Starting point is 00:01:56 I'm so pleased we've got such good hearing. Oh, I don't need to go for a hearing test yet. Oh, Gabby, I'm sorry. As I was reaching for the things that they enjoy. A fan. Yeah, love it. Keep it in. Yes, bird feeders.
Starting point is 00:02:07 In bed found, in bed bound, he kept a little notebook and he was saying which birds were passing his way because, you know, bless him, he was towards the end and birds are great for everyone. And he just wrote under one of the days. So it was, you know, the date was there and it said, he wrote down all the birds that had come by. Not that many.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I mean, it was only in Kingston. It wasn't in the depths of the countryside. It's just in suburbia. And he wrote, this bird came and this bird and this bird. And then he wrote, today has been a great day. And I know, isn't that lovely? And I have always, whenever I see a Robin, I go, Hello Mr. Robin.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Hello, Dad. My dad was a huge fan of Kingfisher's. My best friends, they always buy me like little Kingfisher thing in me juggies, which I never thought I'd be like a collector of stuff. But it's sweet. I love it. So the birds, this is not bird food. It looks like bird food.
Starting point is 00:02:53 But I love my birds, so I get them seeds and nuts. And then I thought to myself, what can I bring you? That's a little snackette that would bring me joy to make it and bring you joy to eat it, especially because I know you're busy. So I wanted to bring you a snackette. I knew you'd like that they'd be in reusable jars.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I love this. And they've got. seeds and nuts in it that I have spiced with a bit of paprika and salt and then I've added a tiny dash of maple syrup because then it's salty spiced and a tiny bit sweet she's going in I'm going in and then Ed you have to come in you hopefully will taste rosemary and that rosemary comes from a rosemary plant in my garden next to the bird feeder and so it's got my things that bring me joy are me making you something the fact that um uh I was laughing because I've got literally a massive jar of of bird food that kind of looks like what I've brought you and then the rosemary because rosemary is really good for mental health allegedly and if you look through like homeopathy and
Starting point is 00:03:48 herbal books from traditional books they will say give people rosemary for their brain, their mood, their mental health and I just thought you'd love the fragrance of it and it feels like a right old British I'm going in again. What do you think has it clustered together talk us through what's what you can see

Starting point is 00:04:34 Basically whatever nuts I had But you could do seeds too if there was any nut allergy. He's intrigued. I can see his face. So what will we go? Oh, Ed's nuts. It's basically like delicious grown-up bird food. But I would see this in a bar. I could imagine people having a little gin and tonic or a virgin bloody Mary.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Come on. Is that good? Come on. I've never eaten the whole jar. Smoked paprika, salt and then don't forget the tiny dash of maple syrup. I recorded it so you can watch it. And it bubbles away at the end. The maple syrup bubbles off.
Starting point is 00:05:06 you could play around with this. People could grate in cheese. They could do a sweet version with cinnamon. We're laughing. This is so good. They're very happy. You know you brought two jars. Can I give Edward? Please do. That's your little jar.
