what that meant.
For My Heart Podcasts and Rococo Punch, this is the turning, River Road. In the woods of
Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse.
But in 2014, the youngest escaped.

And if you look around, you can see I'm on B.M.F. now.
I literally got the whole family in here with me today, man.
Tell everybody hello, look, look, we got the mama, the son,
the low down ass daddy.
I'm that nigger in the alley.
I'm that brother when you need some stuff on some weed.
Hey man, look, you know, we love the show, man.
And y'all took America by storm and showed up
and gave us a classic, man.
So thank y'all for that.
Appreciate that.
How's everybody been?
I'm great, man.
I didn't know you'd be hanging out with your TV mom
and daddy in real life.
Yeah, we're about to go to Chuck E. Cheese.
But nah, man, I'm great, man.
I'm blessed.
Like, honestly, to be a part of a pilot that get picked up for a season and that you're
doing not just one, but two, three, four, right there, that's like giving birth to a
kid, but then the kid end up becoming an NBA player.
You know, that don't really happen.
It's really hard.
The TV process, you know, a lot of people don't realize how hard it is to get a show on air and
it becoming successful so to be a part of it with like OG's like you know what
I'm saying that's I couldn't ask for more man.
Do you even know how much TV experience you you've been around?
Yeah I googled it.
So what is it like having a young up-and-coming actor on a show with
y'all who's been doing amazing things? No, it's cool with me. He started out as a hard head, you know what I mean?
Like, you know what I mean? It's natural. You know you're young, you think you know everything. You know what I'm saying?
He used to be that way too. I knew him when. She was there. Funny little side story, when we did
play together on New York, Jitney, August Wilson's Jitney, and you know I was in my
I was mid early 20s you know what I mean. I used to come around strutting everything
like that and be talking to the girls, what's up mama, you know and she said, boy, you are so transparent. You hit him with the transparent.
I hit him with it.
I was like, ooh.
So yeah, I mean, so you know, when you see other brothers,
you guys, hey, let's try this a different way, y'all.
You know what I mean?
But nah, please, no.
We've had a good time.
We're having a great time working together.
And it's like a family.
It is a family.
You know what I mean?
All these years and all we've all been through we just have fun and just keep everybody
You know prayed up and loved up me and my brother was talking the other day
About how she found the little matchbook
How cheating has evolved
Everybody remember you went from the hand, you know what I'm
saying?
But I'm saying just like now somebody would literally have to pick your phone up and go
through it.
We was literally out here saving pieces of, saving evidence!
That is crazy.
But Charles he ain't a player like that, that's what I'm saying.
You know what I mean?
His player card has been gone.
You know what I'm saying? You know what I mean? His player card has been gone.
You know what I'm saying?
He's trying to reinvent the wheel.
You ain't got nothing, he ain't no game.
You know?
That's gold, man.
But I feel like all the characters are relatable
in that sense, man.
Cause everybody got their uncle who get caught
fucking up, been fucking up since the 60s, 70s, 80s.
He been fucked up in every era.
I got an uncle now who still got a flip phone
because he don't want all the information out there, man.
What can we look forward to?
What's coming next?
On this season?
Honestly, this season,
I think it's the most action-packed season ever before.
I feel like this season is like a Mission Impossible,
007 type, like the budget, it was just a lot larger.
So the things that we able to do was like the explosion.
I mean, you got, there's a-
It's explosions?
There's explosions, yeah.
I thought you like literally exploded.
Yeah.
Oh, we coming up.
Like, yeah.
We coming up.
Yeah, yeah, it's like that.
This season get like that. Yeah, that's what's up that this season get like that yeah
They put that money in there so you know everybody gotta have a little opportunity to look good right right?
Yeah, you know he's trying to get his double-o soul on
Black action hero
But you know that's his character got a whole lot of flesh,
so he is carrying over in the real life.
You see how he came in and he was like, yeah, I got it.
Exactly.
What are y'all looking forward to this year
at the BET Awards?
Cause you see like every year they try to take it
to another level, another level.
Is there anything y'all looking forward to this year?
I'm looking forward to us being there.
Why you going? Well, it'll be my first time actually that's not true I have been to the BET Awards before but I'm so looking forward to just
being there and that BMF will be a part of that and and I think it's so exciting to have something
that's for us and by us and I just feel really proud to be a part of it in that way.
I wanted to ask both of you two,
what are some of the secrets to success that you found
in your journey as a black actor and a black actress
to some of the keys to the longevity of the business?
I would say not giving your power away and trusting your own authentic journey
because it's very difficult in this business because it breeds insecurity
and you're always looking for your next job and it appears that you're waiting
for somebody to say you're okay you know know, waiting for somebody to validate you to give you a job and that
job equals your self-worth on some level, you know?
And so I think that really honoring and loving yourself and knowing, trusting your own journey
and what your art is about and just not giving away your power to
everyone I think is really important. You listen? I am. I'm taking notes. You know I think that we have to
first we have to like ask ourselves what does success really mean? How do you
define the success? How does one define success? I think for some people success
might be celebrity. For some people success might be money, visibility,
things of that nature.
I think for myself, I define success by the opportunities and just really working.
You know what I mean?
You know, it's like when I started out I said I want to be the next Denzel, I want to be
the next Fishbur or something like that.
Now it's just I want the next job.
You know what I mean?
Because you put it in its proper perspective, you know, for me.
Now I got a wife, now I have kids, and now everything is about them.
So success has just been the opportunity and the ability just to continue to have a job.
You know, when we're in this business, it is, people have to look at it, it's about
pension and health at the end of the day.
And can you take care of your basic critical needs?
And so for me, that's what success is.
How you get it, how you attain it,
that varies from day to day, from year to year.
How I approached it 10, 15 years ago
was different than how I approach it now.
As McColl said, I have less insecurity,
but I have, because I have more patience.
You know what I mean?
So I'm not looking for somebody to really validate me.
I know the opportunities will come and
You know, that's how that's how it's always that's how it's been for me, you know
She get to be on your ass a lot. She'd be wearing my ass
You know I'm saying it is fun though, cuz you know, we know each other we go so far back
We really have a fun. We have a we have a lot of fun talking shit
You know I'm saying it's just saying she'll wear me out, she'll say, I'm sorry.
She'll be putting all that into it.
Like, yeah.
She get down.
No, she get down, you know, yeah.
I'll be like, you mad at me for real?
No, we definitely had those moments this season
where there's some things that, you know,
Lucille is going in a whole different direction
and there's some things that are very surprising about her character that you don't you
wouldn't expect and some things weren't always really nice that she says and and
and I had to say some real bad stuff to him sometimes and it was like oh my gosh
like I did feel like are you okay or I'm so sorry why would I say that?
Why would Lucille do that?
I wouldn't do that.
But once I kinda got into that whole thing.
You get used to it. Right.
Now you can say some terrible shit.
I was like, yeah, let me get in it.
Hey, wait a minute.
Yeah, but put my foot in your hand.
But that's gotta be therapeutic though,
just to be able to get some of that aggression
and some of those emotions out.
You know, even if it's just on camera,
sometimes you wanna say some terrible shit and you can't.
Right.
And then you get the chance to say it
and it just feels so good.
You be like.
Yeah.
That's why we do what we do.
Exactly.
Because we get to express,
unexpressed emotions in real life.
It's therapy.
Right.
I just recently did a feature
and I got to play a terrible motherfucker
and it feels great
Cuz it's like after I was doing I was like man. I just feel good
Got all the neck. I got all the negativity out of my body for the rest of the year exercise a demon
I really appreciate y'all
And showing us some love let them know when the new season is coming and how they can keep up with y'all and everything in between all that.
All right, yeah, the new season just dropped yesterday, June 6th.
Come on!
You guys can watch it on the streaming on the Stars app, on TV, on the Stars channel.
I believe this is Stars, right?
Yeah, Stars, yep.
Yeah, on the Stars channel.
Yeah, yeah, and then the streaming service.
But yeah, I'm looking forward to all y'all feedback.
We actually do watch the videos, the memes and all the impersonation of mom and
pops oh yeah like we watch that and we actually got a we have a blast coming
keep it coming actually no I haven't met him yet but I talked to him on the
phone and FaceTime FaceTime yeah oh yeah, and episode two I directed yours truly.
You know what it be.
So you know what it be.
You know, doing directing thing.
And so yeah, excited to get your feedback.
And so just check us out.
Yeah.
We're most definitely going to check y'all out.
I like to watch them like in order and then I like to just watch random episodes.
Oh, oh, shit.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
Because I feel like as black people,
we gotta support everything black.
So I make sure it's black people on my TV 100%.
I'm not bullshitting.
I believe you.
I watch black people all day, all day long.
Just, I just need to see us.
I heard that. That's right.
Yeah. It's just there's a wallpaper in the house.
That's why I got it. It's muted.
Yeah, sometimes I just turn on in the house is muted. Yeah, sometimes.
I just turn on a black show and go back downstairs.
That's what I wanted you to say.
We need the ratings.
I got excited.
I was like, oh, they're letting us blow up shit.
We usually just have enough shit to make the shit,
but then we get to blow up shit and tab shit.
I get really excited.
Right, right, right.
Right.
Hey man, I thank y'all man.
BET Awards 2025, BMF, the whole family.
I'm playing the drunk uncle in season four.
Don't tell me shit.
Charles had a brother that came up from Atlanta.
Nah, too good.
Yeah.
Oh man.
