You know how we do it, man. Now what I mean? Backwood backstage, man. You dig what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:02:22 You got D.C. Young Fly 85,000. You got the beautiful poor minds in the building. Let's love y'all. Hey, man, we got to be. a real legend in this motherfucker man. Coming straight out of South Carolina, this motherfucker, man. Yeah, yeah. Trapped Dickie, straight out of South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Yeah, man. Get what I said. Yeah. Yeah. Now, you know we're from the hood, man. You gotta explain the name, gang. Trapped Dickie is really my real name, though. My real name is Travis.
Starting point is 00:02:47 My last name is Dickie for real. Oh. Oh, okay. That made everybody like, whew. Yeah. People ain't almost. They're real name. We think my boy like trapping and dickies and stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Okay. Dang. That's the real name. authentic. I try to keep as smooth as possible. No care. Hey, man, you're down here at Dreamville, man. This is a big time festival, man. It's over almost, what, 20, 30,000 people out there, man. You get what I'm saying? Like, how I feel to be down here?
Starting point is 00:03:11 Man, it's feel good, especially when you from Carolina. You know, this is the big thing they talk about, though. So being from Carolina, this is my first festival. First time being on Dreamville. You know, this is where all the legends be at. Yes, sir. Me, sit down with legends talking to DC on flight. Boy, you're a legend, my boy.
Starting point is 00:03:23 You know what I said? Yes. So, can you tell us a little bit about your story? Because I know you have a little bit of a traumatic story, but you turned that around is inspiration for your music. Definitely. Like I said, I'm from Hartsville, South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Born and raised in Chirot. Right. You feel me, I've been through every obstacle. You feel me? The gunshot wounds to everything. That's how my eye like this. Got shot in the face. I graduated high school, though, for all the kids.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I graduated high school, you feel me? Got my diploma. For real, for real. Like I said, I came from the arm, the streets. My granddad really is a pastor. His son died at 17, which is my father. Oh, wow. So I just lived through the obstacle.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I live the lifestyle of what a lot of street niggies say they want to live. I hear that. So how did that big extra plug situation come about? Like, how did you fall in line with that? I was on my DC young flash shit. I just inbox this ass. He's like, Fort Whitney.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Fort Whitney. Oh, really. I got to say you there. That was up, yes. I tell you, bro, I just say, I seen you do it. I said, there ain't no damn way. I ain't fin to try it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:21 You know, inboxing companies. You don't have to know what happened. What did you say when you DM then? Fuck with me. My exact words. I got this song. It sounds like you can be on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:31 He ain't read it at first. I emboss him again. Boom, the eye went down. Oh, wow. That's amazing. So explain that process because, you know, a nigga might feel like a nigga tried him when he didn't read or when he read it or he might not respond in time because they don't understand how that shit go. Yeah, I read it.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I'm going to get back to you right quick. I'm from the country, so you got to think about it, man. I got like three phones. A bunch of people have called my phone, so I know the feeling of people calling your phone. You might see it. You might don't get to it right then and there. If you see it about two or three times, you're gonna know the okay. Okay, shout out of serious.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Yeah, yeah. Okay, let me take it matter. Because niggins don't understand. We do listen to your music. Right. That's why we don't really want y'all to send a lot, because we ain't got no trouble. We're like, man, let me see what he's talking about. But then when we actually hear something that's really good, bro, like, if you're a real nigga, bro, you're going to say something, bro.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Yeah. It's just in your nature to be like, hey, a little homie, keep doing your thing. Matter of fact, it ain't knocking me if I help you for real. No. Right. Yeah, no, it ain't even stopping nothing. It ain't stopping that, man. It's a blessing.
Starting point is 00:05:31 It's a blessing. So I feel like he did that. One of my biggest songs of my career was like a blessing forever. Talk your talk. Now, coming from a small city in South Carolina, you know, I got family in Chirot. The gayness. I know y'all are hearing this. They like, that's my cubs, real talk.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Like, explain, bro, like not getting that recognition to finally getting that recognition and just stand down because you never know where it may lead you. Like I said, man, where I'm from in Chirot, it's only one Walmart in the county. It was like, and all the stores. Y'all still call them super similar. You feel, super similar. All the gas stations closed at 12. Right.
Starting point is 00:06:07 It ain't, you, it ain't nowhere to go. You're outside at 1.30. Boy, you're up to no good. You're up to no good, you know what I'm saying? So it's like, I can't even lie to it. It's like a blessing, though, man. It's really a blessing coming from where I come from. It ain't nothing but like 4,000 people.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Oh, wow. So it's like, I take the same intervention, same middle. Everything. All the schools. Ain't no going to new high school. You might have one builder and raised the kids. It's the same high school. One high school, you feel what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:06:28 One high school, one elementary, you know what I'm saying? So everybody know everybody knows everybody. So, you know, you got to be humble, you got to take it in. You got to, for real, because it can be gone in a split second. Right, yeah. I get that being from, because I'm from a small town, too. Do you feel a lot of support from your city? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Like, the mayor knows me. Everybody comes through. She's how crazy when the mayor knows you know. Yeah, I know the mayor. Hey, I know the city. Yeah, yeah, the mayor knew of the city. Yeah, yeah. Now, I've been doing for the city, though, like, before I was.
Starting point is 00:06:57 big and rapping though like donate to the schools buy the shoes and stuff like that you feel me like by the school basketball shoes or me and my partner buy the football jerse for schools and stuff like that see people don't understand like they give the kids hope bro they get the kids understanding that somebody is supporting your dream supporting your success and where you want to go because a lot of people don't understand that when they feel like they ain't got nobody they don't really want to put forth an alpha until they real dream yeah like i said I ain't want to be known for just messing up the community. I always want to give back to the community.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Now, you know this, but this couch right here is real. I want to say, we speak things into fruition right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just like you just DM, Big X, and he's like, shit, I'm the largest, pull it up. I ain't. Who else do you see yourself collaborating with? Outcast, outcast.
Starting point is 00:07:52 I'm trying hard to get something like that. I'm trying to get something like that. trying to get the Outkast feature. I'm really trying to get. I don't care if Andre played a flute. That's what I say. I don't care if you play the flute. I don't care if we play the flute.
Starting point is 00:08:03 I just needed to say Andre 3,000 on here. Yes, sir. That's all I need. So could you tell us a little bit about your new project, Trappadai? Oh, yeah. Trappadai was really one of the first projects I dropped coming back into the rap industry, like the rap game. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:18 So it was like, actually, Sean Cotton helped me redrop it to get more noticeable, like to get it noticeable. Say cheese. Shout out, say cheese. Shout out, say cheese. He helped me out a lot. But on Trappie, that was like one of my first tapes coming into the rock game. The old trap, the discreet trap.
Starting point is 00:08:34 It was fun doing it, real for real. Man, we, we know. Okay, so what are we going to do? We have a little wheel of fun right here, okay? Okay, okay. So I'm gonna spin it for you and whatever. I ain't on freak shit on that I got. Nah, I ain't half for the freaky shit.
Starting point is 00:08:48 No, you're too hot for the freaky shit. You're too hot for the freaky shit. Let's see. Let's see what we love. Oh, okay, Jay Cole. Boom, that's crazy. What's your favorite, favorite Jay Cole song or lyric or whatever? Jesus.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Oh, that's crazy. I got so many, though, man. I don't know, because the new ones he just dropped, the old ones. Mm-hmm. It's a lot, now. That's a large catalog. That's a large catalog to put it in. And it's on a spot.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Right. Yep, you're on the spot, nigga, three. I'm trying to think. I'm trying to thank. I'm gonna say it. Hey, me. Nah, nah, cause I'm gonna wanna be like, that's a favorite song by Jay Cole, you know what I'm gonna do the one where he did with Cam Ron, the last one.
