This is an IHeart podcast.
It's Black Business Month, and Money and Wealth podcast with John Hope Bryant is tapping in.
I'm breaking down how to build wealth, create opportunities, and move from surviving to thriving.
It's time to talk about ownership, equity, and everything in between.
Black and brown communities have historically been lasting lives.
Let me just say this.
AI is moving faster than civil rights legislation ever did.
Listen to Money and Wealth from the Black Effect Podcast Network on iOS.
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Get fired up, y'all.
Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway.
We just welcomed one of my favorite people, an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show.
And we had a blast.
Take a listen.
Sue and I were, like, riding the lime bikes the other day, and we're like, we're like,
people ride bikes because it's fun.
We got more incredible guests like Megan in store, plus news of the day and more.
So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Brought to you by Novartis, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports Network.
I'm Noah and I'm 13, and I started this podcast because honestly adults don't ask the right questions.
Now you know with Noah de Barroso is a show about influence.
Who's got it, how they use it, and what it means for the rest of you.
It's not the news.
It's what the news should be if someone Gen Z or Gen Alpha made it.
politics is wild and I'm definitely not here
to payment but I'm here to make sense of it
listen to Now You Know with Noah de Barroso
on the Iheart radio app
Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast
Summer's here and with the kids home and off to camp
it's easy for moms to get lost in the shuffle
on good mom's bad choices we're making space
to center ourselves with joy, rest and pleasure
take the kids to camp
you know what it was expensive
but I was also thinking you have my kid
This is kind of priceless.
Take her, feed her, make core memories.
I don't have to do anything.
Main thing, I don't have to do anything.
To hear this and more, listen to Good Mom's Bad Choices from Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Hey, man, welcome back to the 85 South Show.
We are live here at the 2025 BET Award Nave.
Now look here, we don't always get the...
talk to women of this caliber.
Oh, man.
Look,
what's that?
I feel,
you called it.
I feel like the black
Johnny Carson
up over here.
What?
I don't even,
Mandee, we got some
movie star ladies to hear
with us today.
We got some movies
we got some movies.
I'm hoping to do some movies.
The force substance.
Now, but see like in the black community,
like once you're on TV, you're in movies.
Yeah.
They call it a movie.
Whatever come on TV?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
The same way, if you were soap operas, it's a story.
If you got to turn your TV on,
oh, then you're a movie star.
Indeed.
So we definitely got some movie star ladies in here.
I love it now.
They got a new show that's out.
Ladies and gentlemen,
could you do me a favor?
I can't.
Because I want them to hear you say it
because they're going to think I'm lying.
Come on now.
Please, just pick any camera that you want to.
And tell them who we got,
because this is a flex for me.
Well, my name is Latoya Lekyllis.
And I'm Kadeen Andrea.
And he walked on.
And he is no longer with us.
He is currently walked off of him.
And he's back.
It's a rap.
He's back.
The divorce sisters.
I don't have no industry questions.
How are y'all been?
I like that.
See, I like that.
I like that.
We did you get to chit-chat, Kiki.
We just had some food.
We've been starving.
Oh, yeah, y'all was happy about that.
The whole time.
Y'all been here an hour when y'all talked about the food.
I know.
And to do that around me, like, I'm like, damn.
I'm happy.
to talk to these ladies after they ate because I know they're happy now we're happy
we got them when they're in their element that's that's a fact catch me before I get sleepy
though now ladies respectfully y'all in here fine a F thank you thank you thank you
you know what I'm saying look just that y'all that ain't like we put lotion on yeah
we're trying to glistening whatnot no lotion on yeah y'all got a new show out we sure we do
How is it going?
How was it working with all the ladies and putting these stories together?
Listen, it's been an amazing ride so far.
We had our premiere last night.
Mr. Taliberry, you know, came and graced us with his presence.
Oh, yeah.
Billion dollars in the business.
Listen, you want to be next to that.
Yeah, for sure.
That's the kind of energy you want.
But it's, you know, working alongside him and the cast, it is very clear why he is in the position that he's in.
I mean, giving people opportunities.
I think he said last night,
that between all of the shows and stuff that he's done,
he's made more black millionaires than a little bit.
And that's a flex.
You know what I'm saying?
And a couple more.
I pray God blesses him to do that.
Divorce brothers.
I ain't even been married.
I made divorced brothers.
The way I want to roll on this flow.
Let's go.
Do it.
I ain't even been married.
I ain't thinking about being married.
Baby daddy.
We need a show.
Not the baby daddy.
Baby daddy.
We're struggling too.
We got to start.
Baby, Dad, is that shit?
Look, I watch.
I swear God I watch.
Every story deserves to be told.
Every story deserves to be told.
Every story deserves to be told.
Protect this queen at all costs.
Come on now.
I love it.
Yes.
Catch us up.
What's been going on?
Who, what hasn't been going on?
Career wise.
We have been working hard to promote this show.
By the way, the show actually premieres on BET Plus, June 10th.
But you will get a sneak preview immediately following the BETT Awards.
So you've got to watch the awards to get that.
You got to watch the awards.
You got to watch.
And more importantly, you've got to get your subscription.
Okay.
Can we get a little run down?
A little synopsis.
I mean, you know what?
I will say this, because we saw the premiere for the first time last night,
and I will say the first episode, you're going to get to know our characters.
You're going to get like a little sneak peek into our life.
And then at the end, it's like a little bit of, um.
Right.
A little griff hangar.
Right.
Because baby, when it gets to episode, too, yeah.
You absolutely get that.
Oh, it's spicy.
It is.
It's spicy.
Mm-hmm.
singing in the
I am not
thank you god
see and there's nothing wrong with it
when I tell you I've done movies where I've had
the singing role and that's fine but I love
keeping them separate like I don't
want to I don't want people to feel like oh she
got casted because she can sing
I wanted to be because don't put me in no box
don't put me in no box bro
and I'm and you know you're mad that you put the bro
after that okay I mean back in the days
we had to do it all you had to be able to sing
they do car wheels flips and cap that part
Okay, all the things.
And now, you know, it's a thing of, well, she's known as a singer.
She really isn't a legit actress or she's the, it's like, we have to be able to do it all.
You know what?
It's funny you say that, having to have the division between knowing how to sing and act.
Because for me, people are asking me, well, why are you going as Cadeen Andrea and not Cadeen Ellis, which most people know me for?
But I think most people have been introduced to me in this space, meaning the public space, being a wife and mom.
You know, my husband and I have in our podcast, Dead Ass, which is now Ellis Ever After, writing our book.
So I wanted to distinguish the two.
I wanted people to know there's Cadeen, the wife and mom, and the social media presence,
but there's also Cadeen who went to school for acting and performance.
And this is something that I've wanted to do my whole life.
And I have the opportunity.
Indeed.
Which character, like, introduce us to your character on the show.
Oh, for sure.
So my character, her name is Geneva, Washington.
She is married.
I don't know if I should say happily married.
We'll see.
She married, sometimes you just be used to be used it.
It's good days and bad days.
That's how it is.
Sometimes you divorce and remarried within the same marriage a couple times, you know.
She has a daughter who's five years old.
She's an attorney.
And I want to say of all of the sisters in the group, she's the one who's always presenting that she has it together.
But deep down inside, she doesn't want to acknowledge that she doesn't.
So we'll see.
I got an auntie like that.
When you say, I said, that's my auntie right now.
But that's the whole point.
Because within these shows, people feel like sometimes, oh, these stories.
are so outlandish no no you know somebody you can relate to a character like
there are people out here who are living these stories facts
come on Rashida tell them about tell them about you all know about Shita come on
tell us about she that name alone let me know she she she doesn't see now the hair
couldn't make sense yeah the hair not hair coming what you mean with the name
it's saying Rashida it is giving Rashida very much given you know funny
quick story yes so she had gotten her hair braided the night before
She was supposed to film.
Stayed up for five or six hours.
And she didn't sleep before we were supposed to film that short day.
And she came to set and she was like, I don't feel like this hair is Rashida.
So we were like, well, girl, you just got your hair braided for about seven hours.
What you're about to do?
She said, take him out.
They gave me 45 minutes to get all her braids out.
To cut all of my braids out and be done and to set.
Ready to roll.
I was dead.
That's how you know there's some money on that set.
Come on now.
Hey, but it ain't to be wasted.
Mr. Perry, don't play that.
They said you got four to five
And this is first day
So I ain't want no problem
I ain't want to trouble
No for sure
So I got it done
I had about three or four people
In my head cut these braids out
Yep sure did
And then you know
They did me a little washing go
Waved her up
Put on my suit
But that just explains how you felt
Like the character
Then resonate
Because of the hair
So they just show you
You like this ain't it
That's commitment
Exactly
We all spent time
Building our characters
Period
And I felt like Rashida
She was sharp
She was sharp
She was edgy
I didn't want her
sometimes first ladies can be seen
as like soft
and they all you know
they don't they don't get to
say how they feel all the time because
they're living in their husband's shadow
everything is about the pastor of the church
by the way Rashida is the first lady
to Pastor Jeff
are you the pastor wife? I am
you're probably doing some diabolical
low now. It's not no diabolical
treacherous things. It's not treacherous
actually Rashida
holds everybody in the group accountable
it's all about being true to yourself telling the truth because I say I'm how many times do we count
did I say are you telling the truth in the script I say that I think that's every other line
because I want to make people make sure that my girls are being honest about what's going on being
honest with themselves was that in the script oh no that was in the script okay okay that was in the script
often and I would have to go to her as Geneva yes be like girl I'm in lay my burdens down
and you tell me what to do sis and that's where the sisterhood comes into it
You're in the church, too?
I'm church-adjacent.
No, I'm praying for her down at the church, because she got a lot going on.
I got a toe.
She got things going on.
By the way, Rashida got things going on.
But, you know, First Lady's got to be on all the time.
Most of the time, it's a front to make it seem like things are all going well,
and we're keeping the faith, and we're walking with the Lord.
Because that resonates on the pastor.
They're like, home.
The house ain't handling their business at home.
Exactly.
But deep down, and behind closed doors, they're going to,
through it you know what I mean so I'm glad that people get to see the other and me being a
minister's kid like people need to see that these people are human beings regardless of what
they're calling is they're still human and they still have a life outside of work that's a job
actually you absolutely I don't think people see it as that no they see people as that you know
expect you to be superhuman right and they're not so it's just we're giving a reel on
I ain't gonna lie, I'm watching.
You should.
Y'all got a lot there.
I want to watch baby daddies.
Can we watch it?
Or is this for the winner?
We got to get a BET Plus subscription.
It's for everybody.
Get this subscription.
BET plus.
Start the group chat so y'all can talk about each episode.
You know what I'm saying?
No, I think you're going to go on a little too far now.
We can't have.
We can't have too many men in the group chat talking about.
Talking about divorce sisters.
Talk about divorce sisters.
Now, Nav, we're going to watch it, and then we're going to do online reaction.
We're going to go live.
We're going to go live.
That's even better
I watch that
Yeah
We want to hear y'all recap
Oh you gotta stay tuned
Did you see what Rashida did
I can see it now
I knew it
You're on to something
You're on to something
I like it
I like it
I love that

And you pop this.
Pop your shit.

Miss fashionista herself.
Miss what, okay.
She couldn't wait.
Do I need to read my tag?
Oh, no.
You just tell them you freestyling.
okay it's about the brand it's about the it's about the how you put that shit on it's giving a little
trench uh-huh yeah I'm saying that yeah you know you gotta show up to your man with a little
trench on do what past the wife now oh at pastor wife show up in her trench she better she better
what the what the word say about the bed about the marital bed huh whatever go on in there
ain't nobody big exactly she better come in a trench she better turn it up just because you
have passed his wife don't mean you can't be in sexy that part thank you
house the wife you was something else you was a regular woman i was her friend and she got all
my secrets because we 20 years plus he laughed about it when we were when we were filming we were
like there's rachita and geneva and then there's sheida she no sheiva so neva so you know
she know she no she no college college sheena okay for sure you know we have some skeletons
in the closet a bit i mean we was young what we got on the foot on the feet we got a little clear
wedge that um yeah we got it's giving comfy
It's giving coffee.
Classy, comfy.
It was really about the feet.
It was really about the toe polish and the trench.
Listen.
When have you ever seen the trench short set, though?
That part.
Okay.
It's a moment.
I love it.
And it got pocket.

A little 14 camera going to have a little couple crosses.
You know, a little couple crosses and stuff to make it sexy on the leg, you know, for a moment.
When you cross, it's supposed to be a moment.
You see what I'm saying?
So there we go.
I love it.
And don't forget the Chanel earring.
Oh.
How can she do that?
Yeah.
Never forget.
With a walk.
And you know, and I forgot my necklace today.
So my sister said, you could borrow one of mine.
I did.
You got to have a hearing bone in your purse.
Period.
In your pocketbook.
Come on now.
You can tell y'all resonate off camera like y'all really.

So we appreciate y'all coming through.
We appreciate y'all telling us what the fuck y'all got going on.
