The Black Market is an initiative created by 85 South Media to highlight, amplify, and showcase leaders, entrepreneurs, and educators from our community.
Starting point is 00:01:52 The show tapes monthly at our studio in Atlanta, Georgia. To submit you or your organization for a consideration, go to 85 south show.com backslash black market. Welcome back to the 85 South Show, Black Excellence, Spotlights. Look, man, I'm just going to be all way honest with y'all today. Y'all been giving me way too much credit. Everybody keep hitting me saying, Loz, this candle is so great. This candle is amazing. Oh, my God, Loz, you really was in your...
Starting point is 00:02:24 It's not me, okay? I'm just I'm just a comedian okay I don't make candles but my partner right here do and man let me tell you about good day since the candle smells so good you got to let
Starting point is 00:02:40 it sit around the house for about two days before you even light it this young man right here my man Jeremy right here no I want to introduce you to them like you kind of already know him because you
Starting point is 00:02:54 probably got one of of his candles at the crib. Bro, welcome back to the 85 South show, man. Thanks for having me. Thanks for having me. Welcome back, because you cold, bro. I want you to know that. Don't, like, keep working hard,
Starting point is 00:03:08 and then, like, people eventually tell you you cold. You cold right now, bro. Appreciate it. Man, give me some backstory. Tell them how all of this got started. Tell them what made you come up with the, you know, the fragrances and how we collabed on all this and just run it down to him, bro.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Gotcha, got you. Well, again, thanks for having me. So good day since Candle Company got started in 2018, end of 2018, so I would say 2019 as well in January. But it really was brought about because I had a legal situation I was going through between the years of 2014 and throughout 2017. And it just caused me to be down, mentally stressed and depressed. And I just needed an outlet. I was looking for an outlet of something I could look forward to and be positive. So a friend of mine had me in the gym.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I was doing that. And then I started doing research and found candles and started to find out how about their therapeutic and people were using for many different types of reasons. So YouTube, Google, bought me a candle starter kit, made some. It was in the kitchen like a scientist, a chemist, over the stove, just mixing fragrances, trying to figure out what the temperature was to get it right. Yeah, like that. Legally, though. Legally. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Yeah. figuring out how to make them. Figured out how to make them started with three or four cents. Did a pop-up shop two months later, so like 100 candles in four hours. And then a light bulb went off in my head like, damn. The dope is good. I could turn this into a business.
Starting point is 00:04:38 So started doing that. And was doing candles for about a year. You had posted something on Twitter about candles. I just took the initiative, hit you up like, hey, Lowe's, what's up? I got a black-owned candle company. Can I send you some? He was like, hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And one thing I want to shout to you out for is a lot of times influence those celebrities, whatever you want to call them. People think they just want stuff for free. But those said, send me every candle and let me know how much they are. So I really appreciate you for doing that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:08 And since then. On this road to riches and diamond rings. Yeah. Real niggas do real things. And since then, I just knew you was a stand-up solid guy. So we talked about doing a candle collab. I'm like, you ought to be dope if we do a collab. But the thing about that is, you ain't just do it
Starting point is 00:05:23 because you wanted to do a collab. You actually love candles. So I think you should tell them about how much you really, really fuck with candles. It's a strange obsession. You know, it's just, you come to my crib, it looked like I'm about to channel some spirits. I got 10 or 11 of them a little at a time.
Starting point is 00:05:38 It's just, it just set my mood and my tone and my ambiance, you know what I'm saying? I'm big on the vibes and, you know, just feeling good when you walk into a place. So when you walk into my spot, the lighting gonna be right, the sense gonna be right, you know, everything. fits the purpose like we got some lit right now you know because you come yep and we did our
Starting point is 00:05:58 collab we keep them lit all the time and that ain't no cap we just fuck with what you got going i know appreciate it so and we did our collab and um every time we make them we put them in stock we can't keep them in stock which is a good problem um so i started making candles we did to collab um COVID happened um which caused a lot of people to be at home but actually help my business because where you like candles at in your house so um 20 20 was a crazy year And I'm just appreciative and blessed to people all around the world, like with something I started,
Starting point is 00:06:28 took a negative and made a positive and had a product that's going all around the world. So I'm just appreciative and thankful to be here, man. Bro, I can tell you you really enjoying life. You got the little joker mustache hanging off the sides. Yes, I'm just doing whatever, man. The kid doesn't work it. I'm just doing whatever.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Letting the hair grow, moustache, whatever. It's going with the slow, man. When your niggins start growing his hair out and twisting on it, that's when the black man has really hit his pinnacle. He's about to change his life. Black women say when they cut their hair, they're about to change their life. When the niggins start growing his shit,
Starting point is 00:06:59 he's about to change his whole life, bro. Stay in your bag. Stay in your bag. Don't cut nothing. Don't line nothing up. You might grow a whole beard, bro. Just stay in that pocket, bro. Trust me.
Starting point is 00:07:09 I'm older than you. Got you. So, yeah, 2020 was crazy. And then Beyonce put him on her website in. Stop. Who? Beyonce. D.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Yeah. Oh, because there's one that worked at the radio station, too. I didn't know That's huge You're fucked around and got on-on-on It's crazy right Talk about blessed, thankful That's why that
Starting point is 00:07:33 Was the thankful candle That's one called thankful? I didn't get an address Oh, you dropped up, boy But shit, when I get it, I will And she'll get something every month But what happened was I don't even know she posted it
Starting point is 00:07:46 So you woke up, all this is going stupid Yeah, chilling One of my friends called Like, yeah, you know, Beyonce, put your candles on her website. And I'm like, stop playing. How the fuck did she find out about them? Send me the screenshot it, posted it, all that started going crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Bro, Beyonce in these streets. Exactly. She found out about a good day since from somewhere. Because she'd be in the streets like that. She probably was up your way. Get some wings one night. Went back for some extra mombo sauce and was like... Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:14 So you know about that mongoose sauce, huh? Yeah, everybody. Okay. Stop. Okay, okay. I kicked this fucking wrong. In 2020, a group of young woman in a tidy suburb of New York City found themselves in an AI-fueled nightmare.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Someone was posting photos. It was just me naked. Well, not me, but me with someone else's body parts on my body parts that looked exactly like my own. I wanted to throw up. I wanted to scream. It happened in Levittown, New York. But reporting the series took a series.
Starting point is 00:08:49 through the darkest corners of the internet and to the front lines of a global battle against deep fake pornography. This should be illegal, but what is this? This is a story about a technology that's moving faster than the law and about vigilantes trying to stem the tide. I'm Margie Murphy.

Starting point is 00:10:59 AXS.com Bro, I know she doesn't seen the podcast at least two times That's what's up She didn't see at least two episodes bro somebody sent us some clips Well I remain optimistic If she has and she will
Starting point is 00:11:15 Okay, bad so yeah we're gonna get us some Somebody out there if you're watching this you got her address, DM Good Day Sense or Loz, and we can get that address and send her some monthly. Nobody has her address. Shit, they can find it. It's the internet. We don't even, bro, if we could just get it, if we could just find her thick
Starting point is 00:11:30 cousin that they posted about three years ago, that's good enough for me. We got to get to the people that surround her. That's how we get to her. Can somebody at least tell, we could try to DM Solange a lot of times. That might work. That might work. Yeah. Somebody assistant, something like that. It got to be
Starting point is 00:11:46 a way. It's somebody that's at least braided her hair before but the one thing about it is like even if you worked with her before it takes so long for it to loop back around like i don't feel like there's a lot of people that really just knows bionette no question like people have seen her yeah but no no no no it not that mean maybe a handful maybe maybe yeah so the biance thing happened um in 2020 and i just been going ever since one thing about it is people love the candles so they love the candle names one But when they get them, they say they smell them through the box. And so when you got a good product, people keep coming back.
Starting point is 00:12:22 That need to be a candle. What? Smell it through the box. Smell it through the box. Yeah. A lot of people post and tag me, say, damn, I can smell it through the box. That need to be a joint. Somebody note that, write that down, smell it through the box.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Smell it through the box. Smell it through the box. Got you. Got you. So, I just been doing my things since then, man. And just keep going hard with it. Just trying to stay in my lane. A candle isn't the only thing.
Starting point is 00:12:46 isn't the only thing good day sense is going to be, but that's what we're doing right now. What's coming up? I just plan on expanding doing a lot of things. Right now we got the greetings card that we got, thankful for black love. It's spent off two candles, names thankful in black love. We just dropped some wax melts a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:13:02 We got light as candles. So the whole Good Day Sense brand. My motto actually is, every day is a good day because when I was going through what I was going through, I just always told myself, every day is a good day. And that's how I actually got the name Good Day Since Candle Company. Speak it. Because I'm like, every day is a good day.
Starting point is 00:13:20 So in college, I would tweet Good Monday, Good Tuesday, Good Wednesday. It's like my positive affirmation for me. And my friends Codon will tweet like Good Friday. So I got a Good Friday Candle. And so when I was thinking of a name of my business, I'm like, what's me? What do I believe in? I'm like, damn, good day. Good day since Candle Company.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And my motto is, every day is a good day. Because every day is a good day or some positive affirmation tip. But I also was saying, have a good day. And people say have a good day all the time. And when they say good day, since they have a good day, I'm thinking they're thinking about my candles. So when I say good day, they're like, damn, I do say have a good day to people that you meet. Or however you use the word good day. And this is a good day branch, the vibe.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Each candle name represents a different part of a good day. So we have thankful, Good Friday, passion, what you're passionate about. Black love, which is just self-explanatory. Hell yeah, you need some black love. Cuffing season on wine. So I think we had about nine cents now. So, yeah, man, I just want to keep doing my thing. You got to have 85 cents, bro.
Starting point is 00:14:21 85 cents. Yeah, I like that one too. 85. Get all the way up to 85. Yeah, damn, that'll be a lot. But I could do it. Yeah, well, real, I got some ideas for it. But yeah, that's why I'm at now with a good day since, man.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Yeah, that's dope as hell, man. Thank you, thank you. Keep doing your motherfucking thing. Keep doing your thing. So what can they check you out at? What can they find you? What can they place these? orders and all of that.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Well, you can find me on all social media, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram at Good Day Sense, Good Day Sense, S-C-E-N-T-S, on the website is good-day since.com. Feel free to buy candle for yourself, your girlfriend, baby mother, whoever. It's a lot of people in the world. And before I came on, somebody said that a lot of people love candles. And hell fucking, yeah, they do.
Starting point is 00:15:05 So come over to Good Day Sense and get some of these Good Day Sense candles, man. Okay, bro. Hey, there you have it. 85 South Show black excellence, good day since. My man, Jeremy, make sure you go and support black business. Stay black, be black, because you are black. You don't have no choice. We out of here.
