Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. I knew I wanted to obey and submit, but I didn't fully grasp for the rest of my life what that meant. For My Heart Podcasts and Rococo Punch, this is The Turning, River Road. In the woods of Minnesota, a cult leader married himself to 10 girls and forced them into a secret life of abuse. But in 2014, the youngest escaped. Listen to the Turning River Road. road on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Listen to Family Secrets Season 12 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Summer's here, and with the kids home and off to camp, it's easy for moms to get lost in the shuffle. On Good Mom's Bad Choices, we're making space to center ourselves with joy, rest, and pleasure. Take the kids to camp. You know what? It was expensive. But I was also thinking, if you have my kid, this is kind of priceless. Take her, feed her, make core memories.
Starting point is 00:02:25 I don't have to do anything. Main thing, I don't have to do anything. To hear this and more, listen to Good Mom's Bad Choices from Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. We're backstage with Beckwoods right now, Dreamville, 24, North Carolina, Raleigh, Man's, Brewerinay, Nath. We got Mandy from Horrible Decisions. Well, no, wait. Don't do that.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Don't do that. Just horrible decisions right now. Okay, okay. I just want to be politically correct. You know what I'm saying? And none other than B.Dade him himself. How y'all feeling it? I'm feeling good, man.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I love this set. It's like a studio apartment in New York, man. Is it so crazy? I love this. Two thousand a month. Without the fees. Without the fees. And no race.
Starting point is 00:03:11 We got the race. We got the race. How y'all feeling today at Tree Field? This is great. This is my fourth year in a row being here. Um, ran it to VD. Is that not crazy? Four years?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Four years in a row. Next year you perform. Don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that. I'd be hoping I could be on the stage, but Todd will be pushing people out the way. Like, yo, you're not the performer. Go off. Go off. But no, I love it here. Yeah, Dreamville, they do, they should do a podcast segment and they didn't like a stage. Yeah, that'd be lit. What's been going on though? What's going on? What's going on with you? Beat out? What's up? Everything's good, man. It's like my third or fourth Dreamville Fest. The first time I came, we interviewed J-Code after he performed.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Wow. You know what I said? That was a great moment. You and Elliot. Yeah, yeah, I saw it, yeah. You get a post-game interview, so that was fun. But, yeah, I'm enjoying it. Like, Dreamville Fest is, like, going to your high school reunion. Everybody's kind of cool, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:04 You know what I'm saying. For short, everyone here is so cool. Yeah, that's the cool kids. That's what we were saying. We don't feel like no fights going to pop off. It ain't going to be no shrew out. Because people are just you, like, you were fighting at a dream man, fair? No, no, they would judge you.
Starting point is 00:04:17 They were like, what the fuck? What are you doing? Absolutely. There's no violence there. There's no violence. It's all peace of love, man. But it's a great environment. everybody's drinking, some people doing drugs.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Yo, come down. No, it's like how to do drugs? No, it's the way he said drugs. He said it. You know what I mean? Well, we're rolling with backwood, so, you know, we'll roll up at any time, you know. Absolutely. And I will say, North Carolina is, is it, I don't know, but everybody has been smoking and drinking live?
Starting point is 00:04:46 It's great. It's lit. I like North Carolina. I think people know, though, when you have a festival like this, that's what to be expected. That's why it's outside. No, they took vape pins, right, walking through. Coming in, they were taking the vapes. That's what I love about North Carolina, man.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Like, the Southern hospitality is different because I'm from New York. You know, so people ask you questions. How you doing? How you doing? Regular questions, they're just to speak. Yeah. They smiling at you. An old lady came up to me and my friends and showed me her parlay for the game later on today.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I was like, any of y'all know about basketball? Yeah. She put $50 on DJ Burk. I was like, wow. Yeah. If it was a new lady, get the fuck out of here, man. But it was great. I love North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Now, speaking to Parley, you know, Nav got the sports show broken play, so he didn't want to get hit up. She should have been asked him. She's not right now. You don't know who to put. This shit looking ugly. It's looking ugly.
Starting point is 00:05:35 I like Yukon to take it all the way, though. You like Yukon? Okay. Yeah, I'm going with the white girl. There's a couple white girls. Don't do that. No, the white girl. Iowa.
Starting point is 00:05:44 You're talking about women basketball. Right. Okay. Wait. Is it Angel Reese? That's Miami Moore. Everybody's white on those scenes. My more is my white?
Starting point is 00:05:51 Yukon. No. 20 years ago. Yeah, she was. At one point. At one point, yeah, yeah. You went throwback right. Wait, is Angel Reese out of it?
Starting point is 00:05:59 Yeah, she's out. They're out. Okay. She's at Dreamville Fest. Yeah. Oh, okay. They lost to the white girl. She lost to the white girl.
Starting point is 00:06:07 She's here, though. Yeah, shout at her. Anybody y'all looking forward to seeing perform tonight or this weekend. Oh, J-Co? For sure, J-C-C-C-O. I'm super excited. We came here on time for sexy Red. And what's crazy is, that bitch got hits.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Yeah, she didn't do. No, and she didn't. Can I tell y'all she had the nigger Gucci slides on stage and then then was uncomfortable and she kicked them off? She kicked them off. I didn't even see it with no shoes on. I was like, damn, did she ever wet shoes on same? You know what's crazy about sexy red?
Starting point is 00:06:36 Is that for all the rap girlies that are doing their thing and I love the rap girlies, she just seemed so authentic. She came on horrible decisions and she was so authentically hurt. I love me some sexy red. I'm like the poor. She is me when I was 17, 18. She ain't mean no more, but she's me. I live through her.
Starting point is 00:06:56 And I think that's why all the women love sexy red, because we all don't have a sexy red face. We did. We actually did. We all done had, like, you might be evolved now. You might be in your church girl era or your soft girl era. Y'all read out. It reminds.
Starting point is 00:07:10 It brings it out. It brings it out. It'd be like, okay, this reminds me when I were hanging out with the LK, S-R-T. That explains it. Because when you, like you said, she came on the Gucci slip, She was about to do some errands After you got to chill But no heels
Starting point is 00:07:28 And I just love it And it still was sexy And she's authentically her And then literally Hit after hit After hit She's not missing And the crowd
Starting point is 00:07:39 And they know what shit Yeah that's what I'm saying The crowd was really sing along I was saying I'm excited Only because I'm a 90s baby For Monica set and GZ set tomorrow Absolutely So them two I'm ready for
Starting point is 00:07:51 For sure I love me a good Atlanta moment You know who I want to see, too? Sizzah. I'm excited to see Sizzle. She's good. Yeah, I saw her tour, too. But she was here year one of Dreamville, I believe. Oh, she was, wow.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Yeah, she was actually on the other stage, but she was here either year one or year two. Yeah. Just got to see her at the SOS. Yeah, that was a crazy tour. That was amazing. Yeah. No, she was. In the air.
Starting point is 00:08:16 In the air. In the air. In the air. Where is how she's saying? Floating in the boat. No, but it's good to see that because you don't see a lot of artists take pride into their set and their stage presence and all that. So to see her, like you said,
Starting point is 00:08:27 floating in a boat across in the air, it was like, okay, you really care about your. Nah, she did. She did. So then, I think it's fair to say that we'll never see future at a Dreamville fest? I think they can't say never. No, never say never.
Starting point is 00:08:40 You think it's too soon? Yeah. But he allowed that shit to happen. I don't think that was Torres future, though. I think Jay Call and Future is still probably straight. You think so? I think it was a shot at the big three, though, no. After victory, I think we'll see it happen.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Yeah. I mean, listen, Jake, Jake Cole has a lot of juice. So I think if he puts a coal in, I think future will come through. Absolutely. And besides for the people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:03 The people want to see future. We do. You know what? And he just dropped, what, two albums in like a month? Yeah, like that's on the way. It's on the 12th week. No, like another one that's coming, right? We still don't trust you.
Starting point is 00:09:14 We still don't. Yeah, the steel is capitalized. Yeah. I don't trust. How could somebody earn your trust back in two, three, weeks anyway though like we still don't trust you guys so real quick once you once you don't trust somebody how do they gain your trust back how long does it take how long does it take time that what I'm saying two three weeks ain't long enough I feel like
Starting point is 00:09:35 you got to show consistent improvement for a good 90 days or six months oh 90 days 90 days I'm a forgiving person though that's like a clinical trial I don't hold no grudges okay I as long as you don't make the same mistake over and over and over again like I'm give you one mistake. And 90 days, do you even give a damn if they still trustee? Right.
Starting point is 00:09:57 At that point I'm over it. Yeah, you got it. You got it. But I'll tell you what I'm looking forward to and seeing 50 cent, man. Because he just came off that crazy tour. When she does what talking about hits, I think we forget he has hits.
Starting point is 00:10:07 And also those mixtape cuts. So I'm hoping he performs those tonight. You know, you just had that crazy tour last year. He did a whole, like, international tour. Yeah, he did the whole planet, you know? I will say that did upset me, and I'm just going to be honest. Why is that?
Starting point is 00:10:20 Because Chris Brown is. one of the best performers that I've ever seen live and so to switch up Chris Brown with 50 and then Money Long with Huncho, mind you, Huncho, fine. Oh, Huncho?
Starting point is 00:10:35 Huncho, yeah, he's going to be in. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. I don't know what he sounds like, but he's fine. He is, he is. I double tap every time. No, he got some good. He got some good. That man is gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:10:45 He got some good. He got some hits too. But it's like you removed two R&B artists and you mix it with hip hop. But we'll see. I'm not going to lie, mini men, I feel like mini men, which debt pump me? I want to see, I'm excited. I want to hear 21 questions. Of course that's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:11:00 I don't want to hear the quarters drop. You want 21 questions over? What is y'all's favorite 50 record? Mine is 21 questions for sure. It's probably a mixtape cut, so I would have to. Of course, we not. It just depends on the day, you know. Which one?
Starting point is 00:11:14 But I would go maybe called 50 balls of pleasure. It's from his early mixtape days. So it's like one of my favorites. And he is going to. He's definitely not performing it. He's not performing it. What's one of my favorites? What's your favorite 50 record?
Starting point is 00:11:27 I don't know, man. If he dropped this a big, rich town, I don't know. That's my shit, too, no. Come on the man. I'm the man. I'm the man. Oh, we wrote to me. No, with Chris Brown.
Starting point is 00:11:39 That was with Chris Brown. Bitch, I'm the man. Bitch on the man. I'm the man. I'm the man. Yeah, that's a good joint. No, I want many men. I want many men.
Starting point is 00:11:47 I'm going to become like, I'm going to feel like, motherfuckers out here trying to kill me. Oh, wait a minute. Yeah, for sure. Mind you, mini men came out when I was in middle school. Right, right, I know. That's how I feel about Jeasy, though.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Gizi made me feel like I'm in the trap. Oh, yeah. My baby mama busing, knocking at the door, the fed's about to kick in. Like, I just feel like I really got street cred when I listen to Jesus. And I know Jeezy's having that show in Atlanta on the 11th. Yeah. Like the B-side fan favorite show.
Starting point is 00:12:12 So, I don't know. Are you going for that? I might have to take the Greyhound out there. Not a Greyhound. It's going to take you three weeks to get there. You better start now. I got to start out. I got to go.
Starting point is 00:12:23 So, yeah, I'm a big GZ fan. I'm definitely looking forward to this. Same, I just got to see him. He has a residency at Drey's in Vegas. Oh, wow. Oh, I didn't know that. Literally just saw him. Maybe moving around.
Starting point is 00:12:31 And you. So I was nominated at the Avian Awards, but he had his residency that night. And I was like, I'm slanging. I don't know what dope. I don't even know what really dope is. I'm dope, but I don't know what dope is, but I was slanging it that night.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Yeah. When GZ get on stage, it's amazing. See, you feel like you'd be slaying. the Jeezy make me feel like I'm cooking it. I don't know the measurements to that shit, but I'm in there like I'm in there rocking up some. You are, where are you from?
Starting point is 00:12:57 I'm from Atlanta. We're from Atlanta. But you, you up north. Yeah, from Queens, born and raised. So how do you, how do you resonate with like a Gizi?
Starting point is 00:13:04 Like the down south artist? It took some time getting used to at first. Because when GZE first emerged, it was like post 50 cent era, that G. That G. You had the tank top on? So when he came.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Oh, yeah, the white beters? The white beater? Yeah, the most greener. The most greener. be the dick band on the big man. The G-Unit Boops. I was G-U-Nit-Out. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:26 So it took some getting used to, but eventually I was like, yo, I had a T-shirt. I was Jeez-Ey. I was Team Snow. Yeah. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:32 I'm a big Jeezy fan, man. It's crazy because in Florida, they, banned them Snowman shirts. I know, they literally said it was like gang-affiliated. Really? They bent.
Starting point is 00:13:41 What? You can wear them to school. You could not wear them to school. You could not wear snowmen shirts to school. What if you just like Christmas? That's why he came out with Can't ban a snowman. I did not know if you all experienced that too. Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Maybe that's not in our school first. Yeah. That's crazy. That reached down to Florida because we couldn't wear snowman shirts to school. That's why he came out with King Band of Snowman. Oh, wow. 20 years later. Here we all. Hey, baby, I need a snowman shirt for tomorrow then.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Yeah. Hey, backwoods, make it happen. A backwoods and a snowman. A bagwoods and snowman shirt, no for sure. Make the private cipher complete. Backwoods for Snowman. shirt love it yeah no but what y'all got going on i know you got a new podcast coming up you're working on a couple things i am i am give us some exclusives so not exclusives y'all already know
Starting point is 00:14:30 uh it one shit ain't coming back um don't do that don't do that be that i'm not doing anything um but i'll be at black effect festival in Atlanta for sure for sure at the end of the month will y'all be there as well or no yeah i'm sorry okay and then uh together lamb fest Dallas we're headlining the podcast stage how y'all let me ask you this though how y'all end some shit and then still like we're still gonna show up like are y'all? I ended the other pod me and horrible we're almost eight years now
Starting point is 00:15:01 wow okay we've almost tough it off for that we're almost eight years now so um see the thing is was a great run for three DESE um but yeah we're doing together Lamb Fest um we got a show in London
Starting point is 00:15:17 coming up I'm excited. We're writing a book with Charlemagne. Really excited about that. And then I have periods of dropping. I also have an animated series coming out. Oh, yeah, I saw that. That's super dumb.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I'm not getting a cartoon. I ain't going to hold you. Y'all hear my voice. In five years, I don't want to talk. I just want y'all to know who I am. And I can just walk around and be like a white woman. I'm trying to sell everything to the white man and make a whole bunch of millions. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:43 So, yeah. Where are you going on? Hold on. What's going on with right right now? right what's the because um podcast land i don't know if everybody knows i want to ask you iRL don't exist anymore yeah and so when is y'all's next interview what you doing with yeah right our podcast we're coming back we're looking for a new home we got some uh things on the table you know i don't want to count my chicks before they hatch for i'm really upset y'all dropped a clip of that
Starting point is 00:16:08 two chains interview but i can't find the oh yeah yeah why did y'all do that so i logistically it was just a parenting company thing you know i mean because the company and he dissolved so we have a new situation we're re-uploading all the new interviews so they're going to be available um within the next couple of weeks so but specifically the two chains no and i was waiting because i'm like this is new he's at candy land yeah we went to candy land two chains and and shout at sunny digital they're like owners in the new strip club in Atlanta and so when i saw that y'all interviewed him at candy land i said this is recent yeah yeah saw the clip couldn't find it anywhere i said beat i elli what where the fuck is this
Starting point is 00:16:45 Yeah, it was a politic thing, so we want to re-upload it. It's going to be available within the next maybe a couple of days. And, yeah, we're going to get it popping again. I love it. I'm going to look out for that. Maybe it had beef, like, she wanted to ask you that from the gig. Like, she didn't want to ask you. What the fuck is the full?
Starting point is 00:17:01 By the way, I just want a shout out to two chains because one of my favorite, favorite, favorite fucking shows is most expensive. Yeah, most expensive. That was on Vice and then got bought out by GQ. I want it back. Yeah. I need him being ignorant with all the expensive shit. I love to. Don't we all want to do some expensive shit?
Starting point is 00:17:19 Some ignorant existence. I'd be willing to do ignorant. You live to see it, too. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. No, but what I was about to say? Nothing. I was about to ask you something. Girl, I'm about to go try to hollet.
Starting point is 00:17:32 There's some fine little motherfuckers here. Shout us to Dreambill. How many drinks you had, Manny? We live right now. We live right now. I'm rolling up with Beckwood. As you drinking, we're feeling good. We're feeling great.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Look, there we go. Well, y'all, this has been another episode of the back. No, we're chilling. We're chilling. I told you all she wanted to ask was BDOT. That's what she was that's right. You're chilling up in the dog. I said, what Bidda.
Starting point is 00:17:59 I'm going to hollet y'all later. I'm glad it's coming soon. I love what y'all are doing. Yeah, we'll be back real soon with the Venge. No, but both of y'all have been in the, like, personality and podcast space for a minute now. You know, so many people, it doesn't took over now. It's like the new thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:14 What's some advice y'all would give to people? People who, like, trying to navigate, just starting out. Maybe they're on first season of their show. They just not getting into space. I would say just be consistent with it. That's it. Because a lot of times people, they start, they stop, they start, you know, just be consistent with it. Whether you get, you know, two views today, you get 20 the next week.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Yeah. Just be consistent. Things will come. Yeah. Be patient. Be patient. Be patient. And get your paperwork right.
Starting point is 00:18:39 That too. All shit. Up front. Get it. Even if they're your friend. Oh, boy. Figure it out. Don't do that.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Don't do that, don't do that, don't do that, be that. Do you feel like you should do business with friends? Never. I would never suggest it again in life. It's hard. Definitely not 50-50, but if you know someone is strong and something, hire them as an independent contractor and pay them for their services. But the partnership thing gets a little tricky.
Starting point is 00:19:10 And I just think none of us really know each other's work style. it comes to this. And we are all still, if you're asking about podcasts, we're all still creating the blueprint to it. Yeah. This is still like, this is still like 10 to 15 years new, itch. Yeah. And so.
Starting point is 00:19:28 But that's big, though. We've seen the bubble kind of happen right now where we were all making a lot of money. Right now, the podcast bubble is kind of bursted a little bit. But it's like, okay, it's really building a fan base and, you know, having people like what you have to, what you have to offer. Like, BDOT's questions is not going to be my question. Absolutely. Yeah, everybody's.
Starting point is 00:19:47 You know, he's going to be like, tell me about the process. I'm going to be like, which city has the best host? And I might ask that too. Both are you. Right, right. He just being in interview at Candy Lane. Yeah. With who?
Starting point is 00:19:59 And he just did an interview at Candy Land. Yeah. There you go. Yeah. But also, they are in authentic to who you are. I think that's what you're saying. Be authentic to who you are as a personality and then you'll get that fan base. And they'll rock what you no matter where you are.
Starting point is 00:20:12 But not only that, having a tough skin, that would be my, my, my, BDOT drops these lists every motherfucking year that are trash And they hate it Yeah, I don't be rocking with your list either I don't be rocking, no, I feel like I'd be wondering, I'd be like, how the fuck you leave such a sit off of that hard
Starting point is 00:20:27 I think I do it too You got to do, yes you do Keep the real list To tell the truth Tell the truth you do I'm telling the truth you put in. How's up, Gail, Gail Bean over there That's my sis
Starting point is 00:20:37 We gotta get a step in the trap We got to get a step in the trap In the trap Matter of fact, Gayle can probably sit in for me since y'all about to interrogate me No, no, no, we ain't done talking to you. Yeah, we're going to get you when you come back. Girls are so fine, girl so lit.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Ah. You know it's serious when we start reping our Zodias time. It's like Aries in the motherfucking building. Libra. Uh-huh. ATL in the building. Oh, yeah. That's a look on them.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yeah. That looked on you. We're going to say that. That ain't. idiot shit I feel like you'd be trying to you be triggering people with them I do an inventory every year
Starting point is 00:21:24 I take a take notes since January 1st and then December 31st I you know I try to figure out who's doing what I want to see your notes throughout the year You want to see one notes throughout the year? We got to it's giving cap What's on the list so far? Right now I'll tell you if someone
Starting point is 00:21:37 If you would have asked me who's like the best rapper What's on the right so far? I got J.I.D he's doing this thing Okay I think J.I. He's going to be here this weekend best rapper on the planet today. Okay. Okay. And he's an Atlanta guy. He is. He is.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Of course, School Boy Q. He's put his numbers up. I like Benny the Butcher. He had a great album this year. Who else? J. Cole, just dropped this new EP. Absolutely. How you feel about that? I like it. I like it. I'm still digesting it, but I like what I hear. You know,
Starting point is 00:22:06 so everyone's doing their thing, you know what I mean? I like it. Crocodile Tears is one of my favorite. Crocodile Tears, 2001 is my favorite. Pie. And I love that. He don't brought in all them T-D-E niggas. Hey, I love a little petty. Like, a little petty rap beat. Of course, man.
