This shit gonna sound crazy, but 2020 been the longest goddamn year. It's been 2020 for about four goddamn years, you feel like that. I don't fuck with this shit at all. What that?
Starting point is 00:01:50 Man, none of the shit that happened in 2020. Yeah, this was, uh, this was one of them years. You don't recap. You don't recap this year, my nigga. Uh-uh. That shit ain't going to... Fort 2020. It ain't going to be what you're not going to be.
Starting point is 00:02:06 That's exactly what I'm saying. I'm ready to get this motherfucker on. I'm about it here, man. 20-21 doesn't show up. It's been out of way you asked me. Shit, what 20-21 going to do, though? Oh, as you said, 2020. 2000 and 20.
Starting point is 00:02:22 2000 and the year. Like a denser. Uh-uh, it's just an end. 2000 and. 2000 and 20 yeah okay that's what you're going with the decimal would have been 2000 point it's like you counting in Portuguese but you really wanted in decimal because that's a whole nother dimension I don't even want this shit to come back ever again in life no if it was like a 2000 point 20 you like yeah that
Starting point is 00:02:48 sound like a fucked up you remember the old news show 2020 yeah remember all they talked about was death and disaster that's it That's what the show was about, 2020, on this episode of 2020. Can I get one of them shirt? What? What? That's, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:08 We're gonna this small? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. That is just small. That's it. If anything, if I'm gonna get that up out of Twitter, I'd think that'd have been a high with me. You know what's that?
Starting point is 00:03:20 Hey, the eagle cat. I want one of them shucks. That's another thing about 2020. We ain't get to see none of the latest do they think. I'm talking about none of them. We missed sundress season, we missed pool party season, we missed day party season. They was out, they were just sick. I'm just saying you had to risk it.
Starting point is 00:03:36 It wasn't worth the risk this year. Yeah. Yeah. You can just be able to go outside and live. That's sundress, ooh. Seeing that sundress in between a booty cheek. Made me want to go on and pull her out of me. No, not.
Starting point is 00:03:51 It was like left cheek, boom, boom. Right cheek. Ooh. It was like left cheek. Boom, boom. Ooh, right you. Ooh, don't bite me. Ooh, slightly, ooh.
Starting point is 00:04:02 I want to take it priceless. Ooh, I want to shine brightly. Oh, let me go. I mic me. I miss when you're coming out of your soul. Man, whipin while you partying. And she had that big old ass with the sun dress look like two niggas argue.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Right behind her. Make a nigger want to hit the grinder. That's when you put your dick on the booty, then you do real circus while you grind me. Hey. Everywhere I go, I try to find her. I'm a freak looking for vagina, but I'm just looking. Some of these holes panties be cooking.
Starting point is 00:04:35 You gotta watch them. Ya. Cause they don't watch them. And you'll end up on the news telling everybody that you got it. Ooh, that you got it. You don't want to be him. Uh-uh. No.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Cause you're gonna have that bump on your lip and we're gonna see it y'all. There it go. There it goes. If it's a blow. If you ain't know. If you ain't know, you can't Cormacks on that death. Hey, y'all.
Starting point is 00:05:03 When that shit on your lip, everybody gonna peep that. Peep that, peep that. I'm gonna pass you to weep like, no, my, nigga, you can go ahead and keep that. Keep that, keep that, keep that. Don't peep it back. You're gonna smoke by yourself.
Starting point is 00:05:14 By yourself, by yourself. You try to smoke it on the right, but the bump right there on the motherfucking left. On the damn. Stop it. Stop it. Right now. Y.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Right now. Right now. A sun dress and it is just flopping. Flop it. Ooh, y'all. Drop it. Drop it. Damn, bitches flop it.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Flock it. Miss them sundress, man. These bitches used to wear them shit so often. Awful, y'all. Leave a nigga coughing. When you hit it from the back. The back. Bitch frying chicken and the sun dress, man,
Starting point is 00:05:43 and still don't know how to act. Don't know how to act, y'all. Damn, I miss that sundress. Sun dress, y'all. That was really my only reason. For going outside when the sun go down, I don't want to ride into old school. Old school, old school.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Trying to meet something that she wanna smoke. And hey, I hope she's so cool. So cool, so cool. Kicking it old school. Yo. Like a nigga beat doing. Man, I made a Mr. Summer. Cause all them is giving up to chewing.

Starting point is 00:08:54 I know the story was inspired, but we thought he had been dead. We thought he had been dead. Now, the Freeman had been old for a long time. But it was a movie in 1952. Morgan Freeman was old. That he was still old. I said, yad damn, man.
Starting point is 00:09:10 You didn't see the picture of Morgan Freeman in elementary school? That nigga would look like the PE teacher when he was in elementary school. Hello, my name is Morgan. I'm new here. I go to the school. I'm seven years old, I like to make cookies with my mother.

You gotta ask old people about an old story. I ain't, you don't know how gangster your people is unless they tell you. Like, I ain't know I had real gangsters in my family, bro. You gotta ask, you gotta talk to the ancestors.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Just ask them about the people before that ain't in no more. And you'd be like, oh, this shit add up. My uncle shot at the bouncer when he were young, bro. Yeah, everybody got that one infamous-ass family member that's been dead way before you was born, like just a random uncle that only your grandma knew. Yeah, that's our big brother. Starting point is 00:17:12 I fuck this shit, man. You know what? His price went down and down. When they first went to Walmart, they were 50. Then they went to 45. He said he wanted to make... He said he wanted to make his shoes available to everybody who wanted. Let's have a free foundation.

They do win more than the Falcons. You said that hell, run that back again? The Hawks catch the hate that the Falcon's supposed to get.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Falcons get their ass toe up every Sunday. And the next Sunday, we wake up energized to try to fuck with them again and they do the same shit. But you know what? I think we cut the faggers out more than we do the horse. We do. We do. By the time they get to the next game, man, we already do that. By the time they get to the next game, they already forgive it.
Starting point is 00:24:53 That's what I'm saying. We wake up. Every Sunday we give them a whole new chance. But they got to the season short. That's why I don't know. Not me. Yeah. I remember last week.
Starting point is 00:25:04 I remember the Super Bowl. No, don't do that, don't do that. No, I remember that? No, I remember two and eight three. Come on, come on. Shit, first time I ever cried about the game. Come on, dog. You cry.

Starting point is 00:25:34 But the nigg was in the house laughing. at me, bro. Because I was talking mad shit. I'm talking about it. Oh, so you wasn't in a friendly environment. No. And when they saw that the game just switched like that and he was just looking at me and I was just like, everything I ain't. I don't know why y'all looking at me like that. And they just, it was just tricking it all down. Everything was not all right. Caving into the couch. I was just getting deeper into the couch. And they just kept Oh, that's cold. They don't want to be there. No. I walked outside. You got it too. I walked outside realizing that we lost
Starting point is 00:26:05 fucking Super Bowl and I was swung on the white man. When we was up, when we was up. When we was up, 283, I was yelling at the... I went to three houses that day watching the Super Bowl game. The first house, I chuffed them all the way off. I'm cussing them all the way out.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Bitch, fucking everybody. Second house, fuck y'all too. By that third house. I was apologizing. I want to say, I really do want to send my condole. To everybody, I just been disobedient, too. Crete nigga, they're some sorry about my fucking, man.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Oh, man. Fuck that. Man. I don't see how they blew it. No, I know how they blew it, but it's not going to say, no. That whole situation just is like, that's what 2020 been like. Yup. Some bullshit.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Some bullshit. Just like now, now they're trying to send out a $600 stimulus. And they're sending it. No, they give it to you. Y'all shouldn't say nothing about two. They give me to you. They shouldn't say nothing about the two. Don't say nothing about the two of you're going to give us the six.
Starting point is 00:27:05 They sent it already. Some people got in their account already. How the fuck you're going to cut the check in hand? You got their lease in the $1,200 that you sent last. That's fucked up. You can't cut it there. You know what that equal to? What?
Starting point is 00:27:18 $1.35 a day. Show little. Muffle is getting paid $1.35 a day to feed a nigga in the miracle. Easily. That's fucked up. That's what they're going to give us. You only worth $1.35 a little bitch. And you out here asking for that $6,000 like you ain't got shit.

That sounds like a nigga in the back. It might have been, but it might have been one of them niggas that ain't a nigger. Like one of those lights in a nigga, you know. I don't want to lie to that to go down. I don't know why he's swinging the left,
Starting point is 00:58:07 how I'd be over there with the right. Like, you swing your left, I'm gonna go. Hit it with the left, I'm gonna go. Come on, left, nigga, ooh, man. Somebody gonna have to hit him with an upper left. We're gonna need somebody. This is all we got, right here, I got that. Imagine jumping in to helping nigger,

Starting point is 01:00:06 The nigga hit the ground. Hey man, once you get to be an adult man, you ain't supposed to hit the ground like that. Yeah, after 35, mm-hmm. That shit. First of all, your buttocks ain't supposed to hit that ground. Both of your butt cheek? No way.
Starting point is 01:00:19 Your butt talks. Once these two motherfuck, connect to the ground, look, you're losing. You are not losing the fight. You need to get up to me. Ain't a man. No fight from right now. Because right now, the only thing you're gonna be doing it.

If you hit me again, God damn it. I told you you made your punt, you jive turkey motherfucker. If I go home right now, I promise you I won't bother you no most up. You don't stop me for the 30th time.
Starting point is 01:02:01 You've made your point. I don't want nothing to do with you. And I'm going to tell others about you. To tell them, don't fuck with you ever again in life. That's the lesson I learned. If a baby is giggling in the back seat, they're probably happy. If a baby is crying in the back seat, they're probably hungry. But if a baby is sleeping in the back seat, will you remember they're even there?
Starting point is 01:02:30 When you're distracted, stressed, or not usually the one who drives them, the chances of forgetting them in the back seat are much higher. It can happen to anyone. Parked cars get hot fast and can be deadly. So get in the habit of checking the back seat when you leave. The message from NHTSA and the ad council. Adventure should never come with a pause button. Remember the movie pass era, where you could watch all the movies you wanted for just $9?
Starting point is 01:02:56 It made zero cents and I could not stop thinking about it. I'm Bridget Todd, host of the tech podcast, there are no girls on the internet. On this new season, I'm talking to the innovators who are left out of the tech headlines, like the visionary behind a movie pass, Black founder Stacey Spikes, who was pushed out of Movie Pass, the company that he founded. His story is wild and it's currently the subject of a juicy new HBO documentary. We dive into how culture connects us. When you go to France, or you go to England, or you go to Hong Kong,
Starting point is 01:03:27 Those kids are wearing Jordans, they're wearing Kobe's shirt, they're watching Black Panther. And the challenges of being a Black founder. Close your eyes and tell me what a tech founder looks like. They're not going to describe someone who looks like me and they're not going to describe someone who looks like you. I created There Are No Girls on the Internet because the future belongs to all of us. Starting point is 01:58:07 How serious is youth vaping? Irreversible lung damage serious. One in 10 kids vape serious, which warrants a serious conversation from a serious parental figure, like yourself. Not the seriously know-at-all sports dad, or the seriously smart pot. It requires a serious conversation that is best had by you.
Starting point is 01:58:28 No, seriously, the best person to talk to your child about vaping is you. To start the conversation, visit talkaboutvaping.org. Brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Adventure should never come with a pause button. Remember the movie pass era, where you could watch all the movies you wanted for just $9? It made zero cents, and I could not stop thinking about it. I'm Bridget Todd, host of the tech podcast so there are no girls on the internet. On this new season, I'm talking to the innovators who are left out of the tech headlines.
Starting point is 01:58:57 Like the visionary behind a movie pass, Black founder Stacey Spikes, who was pushed out of Movie Pass, the company that he founded. His story is wild, and it's currently the subject of a juicy new HBO documentary. We dive into how culture connects us. When you go to France, or you go to England, or you go to Hong Kong, those kids are wearing Jordans, they're wearing Kobe's shirt, they're watching Black Panther. And the challenges of being a Black founder.
Starting point is 01:59:27 Close your eyes and tell me what a tech founder looks like. They're not going to describe someone who looks like me and they're not going to describe someone who looks like you. I created There Are No Girls on the Internet because the future belongs to all of us. Starting point is 02:00:20 Yes, he was a drug dealer. Yes, he was a confidential informant, but he wasn't shot on the street corner. He wasn't shot in the middle of a drug deal. He was shot in his house, unarmed. Pretty Private isn't just a podcast. It's your personal guide for turning storylines into lifelines. Starting point is 02:13:43 If y'all don't have a rugby team, you're not a real white school. If the soccer team ain't the best shit at the school, you're not a real white school. Lacrosse players get all the halls. Exactly. Don't want no white school. Give me black.

Starting point is 02:15:04 It's a whole different vibe, though, man, because I was doing this shit at a drive-in theater. We're dropping that shit to 2020 over with by the time, by the time you get to this part. When this drop, when this drop. By the time they get to this part. We drop it. We drop it. Drop it from the future right now.

Starting point is 02:16:30 But then I was like, once I realized that we had the shit set up and they can hear the shit in the car, it was gravy train from there. Right. Whole different experience, man. I want to do some more shit like that. Whatever safe. Yeah, like as soon as it get back, hot.
Starting point is 02:16:45 We gotta go back. So did they beep or something back to the ear? Like, you gotta do it, bro. What, it's some over there for me? How many of them over there? How many over there? Excuse me, I'm cold a little bit. You know how nigger talk when he cold.

Starting point is 02:18:50 Yeah, my boy. Yeah. I was just asking. You know, y'all of age. Huh? What? What? What you're trying to say, young blood?
Starting point is 02:19:00 No, I'm just like, I'm fucking with you. Say that shit again, Robbie. We hit you with a little. We hit your head with a left so fast. Say that shit again, Robbie. See how everybody boils up the question? I know it. One day we all...
Starting point is 02:19:19 We're leaving that shit in Twitter, Twitter, too. One day we all gonna be married. Yeah, one day. One day. I mean, because we're some great niggas. Right. And we're going to be some great husbands. That ain't something you're forced on somebody.
Starting point is 02:19:29 Especially when y'all will be together forever in life. Bitch, how, I know you want to take my life for help? Yeah, we need to be equally yoked. We both need to know. Yeah, because I'm at the age where I'm no more surprises. Right. I need to know how much time I got left to do the shit I need to do first. Right now.
Starting point is 02:19:49 How much time? I'm just saying. I'm like, I just need a little more time to do what I'm doing. Not that I'm doing some shit with a bunch of motherfuckers. Who said you got to start doing that? I got so much shit in my life that I need to get yourself together. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 02:20:02 And there's a few more shit I need to just do by myself. A few more things. A few more things I just need to do by myself. What you're trying to do by yourself? Hey, hey, hey, this is not the place for that. You can move better when you ain't got nobody trying to control you. No, it ain't about the control. It's just in some shit that you just want to do by yourself.
Starting point is 02:20:22 I feel you on that. Who knows? I might want to goddamn jump on the plane and just go to a motherfucker and my favorite spot. What's your favorite spot? Where are you going to go? I can't tell you. I can't tell you my favorite spot. Come a motherfucker all the way, you know what I'm about that?
Starting point is 02:20:37 What if I just need to go out there and just look at some water and be like? I give them the... Yeah. You confuse people when you say shit like that. Travel. You say, I got a few more things I need to do by myself. Like what? Fuck some holes.
Starting point is 02:20:53 No, live some more life. Maybe a nigga want to hold a sloth in the rainforest, man. Maybe a nigga want to zip land. Maybe a nigga want to see the rainforest. And Ben want to see it. And you don't want to see it with nobody else. You just want to see that shit.
Starting point is 02:21:10 You got to see that shit first. Because you said you was going to do it. And when you had the vision of seeing it, wasn't nobody else there. This music is inspirational right here. It's not. This shit makes me want to build a beer me. It's a much shit.
Starting point is 02:21:21 It makes me want to build a mix. and beat my cross town rival. I want to fight. This is the part where the words come in. Heart on fire, no one can change it. You can do anything you put your mind to. Live your life on the edge, my friend. Another level we're gonna go to.
Starting point is 02:22:05 That's it right now. If you put your life on the line and make it reach a sacrifice and got to take it to another. There's gonna be some weird shit that's come out of nowhere. We kill Santa Claus. I said we killed Santa Claus. We killed Santa Claus.
Starting point is 02:22:32 We killed Santa Claus. Santa Claus was a warrior. We killed Santa Claus. Yeah, man. No kiss for you, no kiss for you. But just like my boy said, man, we got movies. DVDs, comedy shit coming. Come on, man, more than a little bit.
Starting point is 02:22:55 We got some more dope-ass apparel. People have been fucking with this shirt trying to figure out where they can get it. We don't even know if we're going to sell y'all this shirt, man. Who won't the shirt? Man, a lot of motherfuckers hit me about this shirt, man. They don't never ask y'all the annoying shit they ask me. I'm about to stop talking to everybody.
Starting point is 02:23:15 Talk to them. Nah, man, they'd be asking me too. That's your job. Is it? Ain't it? Is it? It's not. But is it, man?
Starting point is 02:23:25 Why it ain't? Because it's strange, bro. I'll be seeing strange shit. This girl sent me a tweet. She said, I woke up this morning, and I was thinking, y'all should get Jay Cole on the show. I'm saying, son, that was your thought this morning when you woke up. That was it?
Starting point is 02:23:44 That was all you was thinking about. He ain't thinking about nothing else. Nothing else. Jay Cole. Jay Cole. You need to get them on the show too. She woke them up and thought that shit. We gotta get Jay Cole.
Starting point is 02:23:54 It's a long list of people we gotta get them. There's a lot of people we gotta get booed. Y'all ain't gotta do shit. The dope shit is that you're able to do shit. Because you ain't had to do shit and you made it motherfuck with the bull. That's what I'd have noticed. People fucked with it because it was the one place
Starting point is 02:24:08 they could actually go. Right. In 2020, we don't know where to go. People ain't realize that and that was the sleeper that was the keeper. Yeah. I'm about to start bringing everybody to the trip. Me too.
Starting point is 02:24:20 Why not? I'm bringing my brother up here. Bring it. You're gonna play the drum? Yeah. Please do. I'm bringing the brother. Man, I just want you to listen.

We've got a very special guest in here with us. Today we got Reverend Raphael Warnock. Good to be here with you. Thank you for joining the 85 South show
Starting point is 02:28:48 so we can get this campaign going, man. I think you've got one of the funniest political commercials right now. When you're walking a dog, I don't know who wrote that, man. But the comedian in me loves that commercial, man. Most busy. Yeah, you had a fan before you even jumped on hell. I'm definitely voting for buddy, man.
Starting point is 02:29:09 Well, it's good to be here with you. Look, this is an important moment in our country. And it's a drama being played out in Georgia. Who would have imagined that when the dust settled on November 3rd, there would be two runoffs in the country, and both would be in Georgia, and that these two races would define and decide the balance of the Senate, and thus the direction of the country, the work that we're able to do in the coming months and years, whether we'll be able to make progress on health care, on jobs, on justice, on voting rights, on criminal justice reform, a whole range of
Starting point is 02:29:50 issues. And I'm deeply honored to be running. Let me ask you this. Yes. My first question, though, is like, as a black man, what makes you want to be in the Senate? Oh, listen, I love our, well, I love our country. And I am an example and an iteration of the American dream. You're looking at somebody who grew up in public housing. I was one of 12 children in my family. I'm number 11. Clearly, my folks read that verse that says,
Starting point is 02:30:24 be fruitful and multiply. I'm the first college graduate in my family. I got there through grit, hard work, and determination. But that alone doesn't put me in the seat now, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dr. King served now running for a high federal office. How did I get there through personal responsibility, hard work, and grit, but also somebody gave me some Pell Grants.
Starting point is 02:30:51 There you go. Some low-interest student loans. In other words, I had a path to a more prosperous and productive life. I'm running now because it's harder for kids growing up and their families in situations in neighborhoods like the one I grew up in. It's harder now for kids than it was for me. And so I want to create an opportunity. I've been hearing a lot of talk about student loan forgiveness.
Starting point is 02:31:21 You think that is real? Is that just a talking point that's hot at the moment? We absolutely have got to get student loan, student debt under control in this country. I said I would not be sitting here. You know, I often say I went to Morehouse College on a full faith scholarship. That means I didn't have no money for the first semester. I wanted to be there.
Starting point is 02:31:45 I wanted to be a Dr. King's school where he went. And I was able to graduate through Pell Grants and low-interest student loans. And when I came out of school, I'm like kids today, after four degrees, our two other master's degrees on a PhD, I didn't have the kind of mounting debt that kids have now. I had some, but not like what they're carrying now. Our young people have a mortgage before they have a mortgage. Right. And so, and that's a drag not just on them personally.
Starting point is 02:32:21 It's a drag on the economy. I think part of the path to stimulating our economy is we've got to address the mounting student loan debt, which has now surpassed credit card debt and auto loans. We can do better than that. It's not an act of charity. I think it's an act of common sense to get student debt under control. And it's something I will absolutely be committed to in the Senate. I had a question following that.
Starting point is 02:32:49 I went to an HBCU and also had a bunch of student loan debt. So my question to you is, if you are to win, do you feel it's important to, you know, direct young kids to get that type of debt? Or do you think that it's more important to instill programming and different types of options for children to be able to come out of high school or wherever they want to go to be able to have something
Starting point is 02:33:16 that offsets them having to go into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to get an education that's not guaranteeing jobs these days. Yeah. Well, you know, I said I'm a product of Pell Grants and low-interest student loans. And so part of what I'm committed to doing as a United States Senate is strengthening our Pell Grant program
Starting point is 02:33:36 so that kids would have less debt. And then at the same time, you mentioned HBCUs. I'm an HBCU graduate as well, and we've got an HBCU graduate now who after John and John Ossoff and I are elected to the Senate, Kamala Harris, graduate of Howard University, will be the deciding vote on a number of these issues. We've got to strengthen our HBCUs
Starting point is 02:34:01 and our small community colleges because they are the pipeline that creates opportunity, especially for young people coming from struggling and working-class families. Why do you think that younger voters aren't interested in political election? I obviously think that's a myth. We saw record youth turnout here in Georgia
Starting point is 02:34:31 for this election. People are very focused on the issue. And I think that young people get a bad rap, honestly. I think young people vote actually the way everybody else votes. Young people, people in general, voters don't vote for politicians. They vote for themselves. They have to hear their own story and their own issues in the conversation. And if you're not talking about me, then maybe I won't answer. So you need to be talking about me. And so I'm saying to the young voters all across Georgia that I know what it's like to grow up in the hood, if you will. I know what I'm also a head start baby where you're
Starting point is 02:35:19 working with kids when preschool age and stimulating their little brains at that point where your brain is growing and developing. I'm a product of upward bound, which is a program that gets high school students who would be the first college graduate in their family. ready to go to college. All of those are federal programs. I'm the beneficiary of it. And now I'm getting, in the U.S. Senate, I would get a chance to craft federal policy. And so what we've got to do is we've got to talk about the things that young people care about. I think they want opportunity. They want, we got to get the student debt crisis under control. It may seem like a strange thing for passage to say. We got to, we got to decontent.
Starting point is 02:36:04 criminalized cannabis and because I come from communities where the enforcement has done as much, if not more damage to those communities decimating and devastating those communities than the drug itself. We've got to deal with criminal justice reform in this country. What is that what does that mean to you? Criminal justice reform. Like we understand the criminal justice reform, but we're trying to get we're trying to get like before that so to keep the cops out of our neighborhoods so we don't need criminal justice reform we're trying to stay away from the system altogether what you say like we like we're in a system that targets us is black men and black people black and brown people
Starting point is 02:36:52 so before we even get to criminal justice reform i feel like something needs to happen before you're actually in the criminal justice system well i'm a product of the things that need to happen before you end the system. Exactly. That's my point. Right. So I agree that we need fewer prisons and more preschools. We need to create opportunity.
Starting point is 02:37:20 The United States of America is 4% of the world's population. We warehouse 25% of the world's prisoners. No other nation comes close. Not even close to the number of people we have in prison. the percentage of our population that's in prison.
Starting point is 02:37:38 We've got a greater percentage of black people in prison than did South Africa at the height of apartheid. And much of this is driven by the so-called war on drugs that too often has been a war on black and brown communities. Most of these folk are, many of these folk are there for nonviolent drug-related offenses. And, you know, people are talking about that now that we're dealing with an opioid crisis where we're seeing
Starting point is 02:38:09 the same kind of thing that played out with crack and black and brown communities in the 80s and the 90s now we're seeing this opioid epidemic in largely white rule and suburban areas. This is why we've got to build a multiracial coalition committed to ending mass incarceration and reimagining the kind of society, the kind of great society that we can actually create. And I think we saw a glimpse of that this summer in the wake of the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, Brianna Taylor.
Starting point is 02:38:47 We saw a multiracial coalition of conscience pouring out into our American streets saying that we can do better than this. We've got to channel that energy to the ballot box. and then from the ballot box to engagement and activism in the days ahead. I want to ask you.
Starting point is 02:39:05 I got one out with you. What are you going to ensure that you're just not another face that looks like us that gets elected that forgets about the people that elected? Because I'm a free man. You know, I...
Starting point is 02:39:20 Best answer. I'm not, you know, I'm running for a high federal office, but I say honestly. I'm not in love with politics. I'm in love with humanity. I'm in love with justice. And the reason why nothing gets done, and I share your frustration, nothing gets done so often, because what we've done is we've created a class of professional politicians. And their primary focus is making sure they get reelected. Of course, you know, if you serve in office, you want to get reelected. But we have a class of professional politicians.
Starting point is 02:39:56 politicians who are so focused on the next election that they're not focused on the next generation. I think we've forgotten in the course of this that there is this great tradition also that's part of our American story. And that is that we are a citizen democracy. We are a representative democracy. This idea that you send ordinary citizens, preachers, teachers, teachers, business owners, folks who run not for profits, folks who are actually connected into the community, you send citizens like you to represent you in office. And we've been sending professional politicians.
Starting point is 02:40:40 The politics has been about the politicians. And so nothing gets done. And then there's so much corruption that goes on that someone else owns the politics. And so I'm running for the U.S. Senate, but I'm still a pastor. I'm someone who's connected to the community, the heartbeat of the community,
Starting point is 02:41:01 and I am determined that I'm not going to spend all of my time just talking to politicians for fear that I might actually become one. I tend to be a public servant. That's the piggyback right off of what he said. I don't know if you can see in the background, but I got Marion Burry, a painting of Mary. I'm from Washington, D.C.,
Starting point is 02:41:23 and this is, in my opinion, the greatest politician ever because of the things that he did for our community growing up. And one of the things that I loved about Marion Barry is that he actually made promises that he kept. So my question to you is a lot of times, you know, politicians, they, like he says, say things and then forget about the people who elect them. But one of the things that I like to do is to have the people that I vote for, give the people something that they're going to be able to. to know and guarantee is going to happen
Starting point is 02:41:54 should you be elected because people have already voted so you've got to motivate them to get back out to the polls again. So what are you going to do for people specifically? Something specific that Reverend Warnock can guarantee the people who are going to go cast their ballot for him.
Starting point is 02:42:10 Yeah, let me tell you and I need the folks to hear me very clearly here. If the concern is that nothing is going to happen, let me tell you what will guarantee that nothing happens. If we don't win
Starting point is 02:42:25 these two Senate seats, absolutely nothing will happen. Because Mitch McConnell will be in control of the Senate. He is a terrible person. And he will do to President Biden and Vice President Harris, the same thing he did to President Obama.
Starting point is 02:42:42 He will engage in a shameless campaign of obstruction. They're talking about divided. government won't be divided government. It will be paralyzed government, dysfunctional government. They will block everything that we try to do.
Starting point is 02:43:00 And so if people are concerned that nothing is going to happen, the best response to that is to get back out and vote in this runoff. Because if we don't win these Senate seats, absolutely nothing will happen. You can be certain of that. But if I win this seat and John Ossoff wins his seat, we will be 50-50, which means effectively we will control the Senate.
Starting point is 02:43:25 Kamala Harris, a great graduate of an HBCU, Howard University. You all make a market that a Morehouse man said something nice about Howard, I think, twice on this podcast. Exactly. She'll be the deciding vote. And what that means is, number one, we can get this virus under control, stop playing games, have a national coordinated strategy. it is disproportionately killing black and brown communities. We can get COVID relief that centers the pain and the concerns of workers and small businesses.
Starting point is 02:44:03 We can get this vaccine distributed safely and efficiently. It means that we can make sure that we strengthen the Affordable Care Act rather than trying to destroy the Affordable Care Act, which is what they want to do. I mean, they've literally had dozens of votes to destroy the Affordable Care Act. And it means that people with pre-existing conditions, and here's one of those words you're here in politics, pre-existing conditions, pre-existing conditions. What are we talking about? I'm talking about your auntie who has diabetes. I'm talking about you or the person in your family who has hypertension.
Starting point is 02:44:40 I'm talking about the person who is a cancer survivor or a COVID survivor. I'm talking about the young person, the child who has asthma. All of those are preexisting conditions. And if they have their way, the insurance companies would absolutely be able to deny you coverage. And so your health care is on the ballot. COVID relief is on the ballot. Jobs are on the ballot. We keep calling the folks we've been ignoring and diminishing essential workers.
Starting point is 02:45:16 to pay them an essential wage, provide them essential benefits, and voting rights finally is on the ballot. You know, they passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act in the House, and it's important because the Supreme Court gutted Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act in 2013 told the Congress to fix it. They finally passed something in the House on 2019. Where is that sitting right now? is sitting in a graveyard called Mitch McConnell's desk.
Starting point is 02:45:47 He won't even put it up for a vote. Even as he was praising John Lewis after he died, he is literally trying to kill the man's life's work. Send us to the Senate. Give us the majority we need so that we can get progress on health care, on jobs, on justice. I'll tell you one thing.
Starting point is 02:46:10 You got one of the dopest names I've ever heard in my life, Warnock. And I love how you leave the Reverend on that. I know, Reverend Warnock. That sounds like an Xbox game. Like you got one of the dopest names. You know, it's just, that sounds amazing. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 02:46:27 When I heard it, I was like, Warnock. That sounds like somebody don't play no game. So hopefully, you know, this will help people get, you know, motivated to get back out to the polls because I know it's probably a very difficult task to get people to get back out and vote after all of the, you know, the stress and strain this previous election. So hopefully this will help people and motivate people to get back
Starting point is 02:46:48 out to the polls and help Reverend Warnock get in the Senate because I- Let me ask him something. You know, I'm a Reverend too. Yes, sir. He also is a reverend. You don't know. I'm ordained minister myself. So I wanted to ask you, how is everything over there Ebenezer Baptist? Is anything coming up in the community? You know, that's a historically black church. So we want to make sure that you got everything you need as far as community resources over there, whatever you got going on with your campaign. Is there anything coming up around, you know, the church community over there? You know, as far as with the election and all that.
Starting point is 02:47:21 Well, you know that the church's website, there's always something going on at Ebenezer. Right. And look, we're the spiritual home of Martin de Kane Jr. and John Lewis, but we have never rested on the laurels of our historic achievement. We're not one of those churches as, you know, always glad to say we're a historic church. The question is, what are you going to do with all of that power? People know who you are because of the work of Dr. King. The question that I've always asked myself, and I've been there 15 years now, is what are you going to do with it? And so we've tried to use that influence
Starting point is 02:47:57 to push on health care reform to make sure we have affordable health care. My church raises money to bail poor people out of jail who are there, not because they're dangerous, but because they can't afford the bail money. We've been pushing on bail reform. We had the first one-stop shop where we were expunging the criminal arrest records of people who've been arrested, never been convicted of anything, but they can't get housing, can't get a job because they have an arrest record. This is the work that I've been doing. We built a community center in the height of the recession. I was so proud because Ebenezer might be a famous church, but we're not a rich church.
Starting point is 02:48:43 I wish we had the money to go along with our historic renown. We'd have resources enough to do anything, but we don't. But with the resources we have and with our partners, I was so proud that we had cranes going up in the air, building a community center, multi-million dollar community center, in the middle of the Great Recession. And in that center, we put a job center,
Starting point is 02:49:07 we put a financial literacy center, whose job it was to teach people how to improve their credit, how to move from being renters to homeowners, and how to start a business. This is the work that we do. We've registered voters. We do it on Sunday morning.
Starting point is 02:49:29 And so my run for the Senate is a continuation of my life commitment to work. I've never thought that my influence stops at the church door. That's where it starts. And that's why I'm running for the U.S. Senate. Man, that's beautiful. I love to hear that because I always say that there's not enough programs in our communities that give guys who are influential motivation to stay out of the trouble that got them, you know,
Starting point is 02:49:52 put in jail and put in prison and all of that. So if you've already done that, I can just say that, you know, I hope people see this and get out and vote for you because we need a whole lot more that all across, not just Georgia, but just whole country, man. So salutes you to set in that example. We have been a war knock. River. And just know, we don't write out, Reverend Warnock,
Starting point is 02:50:13 we got to meet me and Carlos going to write your a bell bondsman show, and that's going to be the doziest show on TV. Biblical bell bonds by Reverend Raphael Warnock. I like it. Clean up churches that ain't doing right. That would be dope. I was going to ask you about this since you come from a huge family, a 12 kid.
Starting point is 02:50:37 Is there anything specific in your platform for the black people? like families or single mothers or, you know, people, I want to say like non-conventional households. That's what I think that might be the best way to put it. It's like, what's, what's in your platform that's going to be able to help some of these families that are struggling through times right now? Well, I mean, mine is a public policy focus that centers the concerns of ordinary people, working families. And that includes families led, you know, where you've got single parents, all kinds of families. And, I mean, that's what I've tried to do as a pastor.
Starting point is 02:51:21 That's what I'll do in the U.S. Senate. We've got to provide people part of the infrastructure that we need to build. And so one of the things that we didn't talk about, and maybe I'll come back and talk about it on another occasion, is our need for investment in the infrastructure of our country. That we need to repair our bridges, roads. We need high-speed rail. We need green infrastructure, green jobs that focus on green energy.
Starting point is 02:51:56 But part of the infrastructure that we need to build also is child care infrastructure. You know, sad news for all of us on this. podcast, we might think we're pretty smart. We'll never be as brilliant as we were between ages of zero and four. That's really when it's happening. Your brain is literally growing. And the science shows that if you, the parts of the brain that you don't engage during that time actually atrophy. So your life is being set in ways that are just, that are formative between ages of zero and four. And so as a head start baby, another good fellow. program. You know, it's so important that we provide child care infrastructure so that while
Starting point is 02:52:42 parents are going to work, going to school, their kids are not simply being left with a babysitter, but being left where in a place and with well-trained, well-paid professionals who are making sure that those neurons while they're firing, when you can really learn language and languages that they're being engaged verbally and otherwise. That's how you answer the issue around our massive, that's part of the answer, to our massive criminal, our massive carcels system. Part of what we've got to do is we've got to invest
Starting point is 02:53:22 on those kinds of things on the front end rather than trying to repair people on the back end. that's good but wherever more than I really really appreciate you coming on I know I'm saying it's early for a lot of folks but you're already up doing the work this necessary man so salute to you for that
Starting point is 02:53:43 and like I said I hope this really helps motivate people to get back out in the polls and get this done because this is a pivotal point you know what I mean it's like all eyes are on Georgia right now it's amazing so you know what I mean I hope that this helps the people understand the importance of getting out
Starting point is 02:53:59 and voting again and getting you and what did you say the gentleman's name was Osloh? John Osloff. John Osloff. Yeah, getting you guys in the Senate so we can really get some things done and you know it doesn't look like you have a problem with being held accountable man.
Starting point is 02:54:17 So that's very, you know, motivational for young guys like us who, you know, need that type of motivation. Of course I don't have, look, man. I'm the pastor of a Baptist church. Of course, I can be held, I got a deacon boy. You ever been there? The first mother's going to ask some hard questions.
Starting point is 02:54:37 Yeah, I'm talking about the mother's boy. That's even more. Well, look, Rev, I just want to make sure that you drop all your, like all your platforms where people can catch up with you and be a part of this movement. Like, is there any way they can contact you via Facebook or social media or website or, you know, what's the best way to keep up of what you have going on? Glad you asked.
Starting point is 02:54:58 Please go to Warnock for Georgia.com. Warnock for Georgia.com. You can give, you can volunteer, and you don't even have to leave your state. If you don't live in Georgia, you can still volunteer for my campaign. You know, everybody's asking, you know, there are a lot of folks who are excited about,
Starting point is 02:55:19 and I'm glad about what's going on in Georgia and they want to come here. We're not encouraging a lot of people to come here in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic. we've got boots on the ground, but you can volunteer digitally. So if you're thinking about taking that Gladys Night, Midnight train to Georgia, take a virtual train to Georgia. Go to my website and there you can volunteer right from where you are. And you can text and send postcards to the people in Georgia reminding them that early voting starts December 14th and election day is January 5th.
Starting point is 02:55:54 well just know we will always extend that platform to you whatever you have going on we look forward to working with you on some of these community projects in the future definitely going to stop by ebeneez of baptist church and get into the job saying whatever we can do even outside of this election and runoff man i just feel like you you're one of those brothers that definitely have a head a level head on the shoulder that's doing good work in the community and we will definitely be reaching out to do some more things in the future. Great. Come on back. Keep the faith, everybody. All right, man. Thank you. We appreciate it. Reverend Warnock. Thanks, man. All right, y'all. Let me reset. Actually, the Breakfast Club is probably about
Starting point is 02:56:41 45 minutes, but y'all killed that, man. 45 minutes? No, I'm sorry. It starts at 9.45. So I said that wrong. I apologize. So let me find a link. That might be a separate link. Yeah, I think it is. Did you send it? You probably got to go out of this. Yeah.
