So I'm going to do a phone interview with a little real.
Right quick.
That's him?
Hello?
Hello? Hello? Hello? Hello?
Yeah, Clay. We can do it.
Is he on the way?
85
Hello
What up, what up
Little Real, what's up, man
Welcome to the 85 South show
How you doing?
You're doing fine
What's good with you, Sam?
Man, you know I'm chilling
Just being Carlos and shit out here
Getting the podcast jumped off
My nigger
How you?
Oh shit
I'm doing good though, man
Hell yeah, man
Hey, congratulations on the Carmichael show
I see y'all just got
picked up again and shit the show is amazing you play a funny-ass character on there tell us about
that shit real tell us about that shit real i mean it's uh you know it's a dope-as show that
uh gerard created and you know he's the mad to mind behind everything man he's he's a workaholic
and it's just fun you know what i'm saying it's a literally fun it's a real fun show i mean
i don't want to sound corny about it but it's just dope shit i don't know yeah
So that's, I mean, I watched the show, and it actually looked like you having fun.
So that's what I was going to ask you.
Like, how did you and Gerard link up?
Was that one of your partners before, or y'all met up through the industry or what?
We met at the last factory, like, it was like six or seven years ago, something like that.
Maybe like something like that.
Yeah.
And he walked up to me on some fan shit.
Like, yo, I'm a big fan of your work.
And I'm like, who fuck is you?
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Because he was geeking about it.
It's kind of weird and shit.
He's like, oh, you're the motherfucker that I'm like, oh, you the motherfucker that keep mentioning.
and all these meetings.
Yeah.
So that should be, that shit weird to you.
You know, a lot of comedians are little real fans, my nigga.
Like, that shit be, it's still, like, weird to you when niggas be like, I'm a fan.
Well, now it's different because it's been a while, you know what I'm saying?
I've done more.
But at that time, you just had to literally be a comedy person.
You know, I mean, I only did, like, who got jokes and bad boys of comedy and all that.
It wasn't the resume I got now, you know what I'm saying?
But let's talk about that shit for a minute because, you know, I am also a who's got jokes
alumni.
Hey, but the shit that you did on your season, man,
I felt like that was a breaking point
in comedy. Like, you changed the way
niggas approached the whole
comedy shit. Like, your style was
so raw and original. I saw
your influence after that shit aired.
Nigger.
It's one of those
things where it's like,
and as a comedy fan, I can
look at it like there. Like, damn, I
awkwardly, like nobody
I ever know it unless you're a comedy person.
I better have some influence
and it's kind of weird
but it was like
it's kind of like how Bernie too
man like Bernie had this
like he helped change the game
when he was really killing it
you know what I'm saying
yeah
he was just the way he approached acting
you know
Bernie really
so I'm not to paying myself
to Bernie in them
but I mean I get like that raw shit
you know what I'm saying
but then somebody like
I mean not like that
but like somebody like you too
you know what I'm saying
like it's just interesting
I watch everything.
So I see when people start to like,
the raw you are,
the more influence you're going to have in comedy.
And I mean,
and that's the don't think about comics
that are themselves.
You know what I'm saying?
Like,
I'm myself,
but I don't,
you know,
I don't lie about nothing.
I tell my stories if I lose or not.
Yeah.
I feel like a lot of comedians
sit back and wait for other comedians
to take the chances
and then to be like,
okay,
now it's safe because somebody else
already did that shit.
And that ain't how you,
that's nothing.
innovative to me. It's not innovative. It won't make you stand out on anything. You know what I'm saying? And you end up chasing that person. You kind of, because you're waiting on them to do it, right? Yeah. You're chasing it and you're not, you can be on the same level if you be yourself. And I think that's one of the things I respect about like a Gerard and, you know, you want Hannah. It's a lot of comments I respect, you know, that don't even get looked at like that. Yeah.
It's just like they're just doing their own thing.
And I respect that, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
Let's talk about this for a minute.
You know, jokes and notes just reaching the clothes, man, and that's your home club.
How you feel about that, man?
That was, I mean, the truth of Mary's, you know, like my second mom.
You know what I'm saying?
I'm really close to Mary Lazy.
And she's been talking about it for a few months now, you know, and she had hit me up,
and we sat out and talked about it.
And I understand why she's doing it.
And it's just very interesting now because, you know,
that comedians, oh, man, Mary, we know, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But it's like, to me, and it's going to sound like that sound,
I guess I don't care, but the group that's been there now,
I don't think took advantage of the club like it should have been.
You know, it's a business, you know what I'm saying?
And if the comics are not pushing it, as much as she is,
like Mary fly people in to see us from those festivals,
some of these TV shows, all that stuff.
And most clubs don't do that, right?
Right.
So to not promote her club like that, you know, I think that's bogus.
Like, when I was there, I took full of energy jokes in those.
Straight up, that was my home court.
That's what I had, I became a beast there.
I promoted the mess out of the club.
How did it go to little bars and stuff like that?
Why deal with that?
When you got a club that's already established.
Yeah.
And it was just because she had structure.
You know, no idea if people don't like dealing with Ruth.
And, you know, I'm thankful to have came up in that club.
Mary taught me a lot about the business
and taught me a lot about being professional
in this business, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
But, you know, the cats kind of like just,
it was just on her.
Everybody had their hand out
and didn't want to grind it out.
Well, help out.
Get me to break down the Chicago landscape,
the comedy landscape for me, man.
For the people who are not familiar
with the Chicago comedy scene,
walk us through it real quick.
Well, it's different.
It was different at different times.
You know what I'm saying?
When I came up, you know,
It was all about being original, you know what I'm saying?
And I remember when I first started, you had like the B-Codes, the Dionne Coes, the D-Race, Jeff Bs, the Damon Williams.
It was a bunch of people, JD, and they were all go up on the same night.
So you had to go up.
Cory Hope, like, you had to go back to all these dudes.
Yeah.
And they all was different.
And all was rifted.
It just was a, it was a, it was a dope time, to be honest with you, because you had to get better.
You know what I mean?
You got to follow J.D.,
or they don't do?
And they're getting stuck.
People stopping at eight crimes.
Yeah, and you're naming comedians that actually write jokes.
You know what I mean?
Like, that was, like, everybody you named, like, those are real writers and shit like that.
I completely understand what you're talking about, having to go up after all that heat.
You know what I mean?
And Dionne Cole would fall through, and he's working on some shit for the special and everybody grinding.
Bro, Atlanta was the same way.
Exactly.
where Bruce was still like it was it was a
it might have just been comedy
I mean Chicago Atlanta New York
those are the prime places but if you think
about that time now who were the
you know what I mean you think about the
guys like a Toulay right
yeah or or
or talent that's that
group yeah and they all
rotated each other through Chicago Atlanta
New York you know what I'm saying? Yeah see
niggas don't know about that Atlanta shit
every nigga who was on
Comic View moved to Atlanta after
Comic View, niggas, so we went up after
171
Comic View veterans, nigger.
Every show that you've seen
some black comedians on, all them
niggas lived in Atlanta.
And that's real.
That's what happened. That's exactly what.
It was right for that Rickie Smiley yet.
Yeah, man.
At first, Ricky Smiley yet, everybody moved
dead.
It was cast that when he'd come home at the table.
Like, you know what it is.
Man, I see you about.
to jump out here in the movie game what's that like
that's dope I mean
I'm uh you know I'm in a horror
film you call get out
horror film you call get out
yeah I thought get out was written and directed
by Jordan Peele from Key & Pell
shout out to Key and Pill man I've been
seeing so many niggins trying to slick
hate on Key and Pill though what the
fuck is up with that real I don't know
I really don't because to be honest
with you they're going to be an intricate part
of putting comics
on the big screen
And they have been
You know, like
What Tiffany Hattis just did
The other movie they did
Shut out to Tiffany Haddish
Man, I love me to tell
She killed it
And they gave her a straight role
And they didn't give her a silly role
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah
Her character had to be more straight in that one
So then that opened up more doors
She just booked another movie
Called Girl's Trip
For Queen Latifah
Jada Pickett
Her and Regina Hall
That shit gonna be dope
That's crazy
Yeah
That's gonna be amazed
But that's what I'm saying
Like Jordan
Man, no dudes man
They are genius, especially Jordan.
Jordan is so smart.
He's a great writer.
You know, he's really the mastermind of Kempiel.
But he's a genius, man.
You know, they got the Police Academy series, bro.
So if I was to me, you know, I wouldn't be talking crazy.
I feel you, my nigga.
And next time you hollet them, I'm out here, too.
They'll stay seen you.
So it's just all about making the right things where they can bring all of us together to one thing.
I'm in my first movie because of them.
I wasn't on a show or nothing like that.
Your entire identity has been fabricated. Your beloved brother goes missing without a trace.

Remember the Movie Pass era, where you could watch all the movies you wanted for just $9?
It made zero cents, and I could not stop thinking about it.
I'm Bridget Todd, host of the tech podcast, there are no girls on the internet.
On this new season, I'm talking to the innovators who are left out of the tech headlines,
like the visionary behind a movie pass, Black founder Stacey Spikes, who was pushed out of
movie pass, the company that he founded. His story is wild that it's currently the subject of a juicy
new HBO documentary. We dive into how culture connects us. When you go to France, or you go to
England, or you go to Hong Kong, those kids are wearing Jordans, they're wearing Kobe's shirt,
they're watching Black Panther. And the challenges of being a Black founder.
Close your eyes and tell me what a tech founder looks like. They're not going to describe someone who
looks like me and they're not going to describe someone who looks like you.
I created There Are No Girls on the Internet because the future belongs to all of us.

Yes, he was a drug dealer.
Yes, he was a confidential informant, but he wasn't shot on a street corner.
He wasn't shot in the middle of a drug deal.
He was shot in his house, unarmed.

Hey, real, my nigga Clayton. Clayton just walked in the studio.
What up, fam?
What up, what?
What's good, man.
Hey, man, I got to shout you out, man, because when I did my thing, this man tweeted me in the air.
he switched
off airplane mode
and sent out the tweet
he said he was in there
that was dope man
that's my dude man
I just wanted to holl at you
I just popped in here
but you know
you'd be doing your thing
but go ahead
I'm still listening
no no
hit me up
congrats to you man
you killed it
and you earned it
bro
you know it's not easy
it went last comic standing
man
nah
I was
hey
I mean it happened
and I'm just
I like to see
everybody up man
I remember when I seen
him at what you call
I seen him outside
I think it was a
comedy store in L.A.
Yeah
and shit felt like
a good little paid-in-full moment.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah, just to see everybody winning.
Look at the leather jacket.
This shit is fresh, son, this motherfucker got two chains on.
You know what I'm saying?
Word.
Yeah, that shit was a good little paid-in-full moment.
I fucking love it.
What's up, man?
Hey, let's get back to the movie shit real quick
because you say you got a horror movie coming out called Get Out.
I want to make sure everybody who listened to the show got all the details, man.
Go into that shit, real?
Yeah, it's a, it's a difficult.
I don't know, man.
I don't have to want to do that.
So, I almost think it's going to be a little controversial, I guess, but it's very
interesting.
Allison Williams is in a movie from Girls, who's an amazing actress, and she's killing
a gang.
And it's a dope.
It's one of those people I couldn't believe I, I mean, I wanted it really bad, too,
though.
It was a lot of cats.
I knew that.
So I'll just know it.
But you go on, you read a script.
You just go, you own it when I auditioned before, how quiet was in the world.
It was like a serious thing.
Yeah.
It was just quiet.
Yeah, man.
Tell us about the, I see the special doing good, man, relevant.
It's on Netflix now, man.
Amen.
You're celebrating that?
Dope.
I'm so proud of it, man.
You know what I mean?
Like, it's, I wanted to, you know what I wanted to do on the real talk to?
I just wanted to put pressure on other people to make dope special again.
You know, I think everybody kind of just was making special, but wasn't making it special.
You know what I'm saying?
Hey, you said that a special is supposed to be special.
Possible, man.
Yeah, what's you doing if it ain't special?
It's great.
His special is dope.
Like, I watched Dioro's the other day.
I'm like, this is special.
Hey, hey.
Hey.
Hey, what's the release date on the movie, Real?
We don't have a release date yet.
I think it's going to be out sometime like in this winter, man.
It's a horror for me.
They usually shoot them out fast.
So, like, November, December.
Because I actually got to go to New York
in a couple weeks to do some pickups.
That's what's up, man.
You're working on the follow-up, the relevant?
Yeah, I mean, I'm touring now just to work on that set again.
But I have another idea of a special I want to do again.
Like, I'm a big fan of Wabatown and the Parkers of the United States.
Hold on, hold up.
We're losing.
We're losing.
Where you at?
Be still.
Be still.
Be still.
stand by the window
stand by the window
you're playing too
I'm about to really hear that
we're playing
we know
for real
for real
stand by the window
we know
outside of here
all the Hispanics
in the pool
over here
they love
hey man
gonna give us an exclusive
do you have a title
that you made
that you might call
your follow up
we know we love
exclusive shit
for the 85 self show
I mean
I don't know
about a title
but the material
gonna be like you know
I recently
got some stuff as though
I wasn't going to ask you about that shit
but I was going to ask you about that shit
you know what I'm saying?
I mean you know
I guess it's some things I can't say
but honestly I was really surprised
I didn't think I was that favorite
that TMZ would
won't even make up a story about it
but I'm like
they made it up though
that's the key word you just said
Well, yeah, they over-exaggerated.
It made it sound like a road rage and all this stuff.
That's not what happened.
You didn't realize how famous you were, man.
I was waking up packing.
And I'm like, well, I don't know.
You're like, man, you know your old TMZ?
You're like, no, I'm not.
Yes, the fuck you are.
What?
I'm on my way to the airport.
Man, that shit was so funny trying to watch that little white lady's like
Little Rail.
It was weird, man.
I mean, it was, yeah.
But this is just advice from all of us, though, man.
We got to, you can't do the same things, man,
once you start moving up these levels, man.
You got to change your surroundings and see you around, too.
And that's the big lesson I learned.
I couldn't move around like I used to in Chicago.
You know what I'm saying?
It was kind of weird because it's the only time I felt at home.
I felt like I felt kind of uncomfortable
because I was getting way too much attention this last trip.
And it made me a little nervous.
Like, oh, damn.
You was trying to do the regular stop, though, huh?
You were still trying to do what I do.
Yeah, you can't do that no more.
No.
You got to do all the type of weird shit.
Walk a goose.
Get a goose on a leash.
Let them know.
I got to hang out at a resort in Chicago that don't leave.
Like, I want to come to me.
Straight massaging.
He wake up to his toes get massaged.
Hey, that's that life.
Hey, if you just, if you, I don't know how to fuck you just tuning in.
But this is my, hey, we got my nigga L'Rell on the line.
man we right here in 85 South show and he's a busy dude too
but that's what I'm saying though this my real
motherfucking partner man you know what I mean we didn't grind it out
when it wasn't no TV and shit
but niggas just had hopes and dreams yeah yeah right now
now niggas got groomed beard man hey real
we've been in the game for a minute ain't even funny to see
niggas get success and how they start changing
niggas go vegan and start drinking kale juice and
I mean, niggas only want to smoke see-through weed papers and shit.
Like, nigga ain't no way to smoke healthy weed.
What the fuck is wrong with you niggas with these little ass shirt?
It's rice paper.
Hey, niggas start doing a brunch.
Nigger.
You can tell when a nigga got a show.
He started wearing watches and all type of accessories and shit.
Real, you had a chakoutary board before?
What the fuck is that?
You had a chakotery board?
Oh, man.
Hey, tell these motherfuckers they ain't living unless they give them a little for chakoterie board.
Real, this nina, Clayton, he won.
the last coming standing.
Now he'd think he's supposed to have
a whole goddamn carafe of orange juice
all the time.
Sniggas at A-hop ordering caraps.
Al-a-carts and shit.
You know what I mean?
Everywhere we go is a buffet now.
Oh, man.
That is hilarious.
But that's good.
But that's success.
I'm going to say this.
It's exciting to see
like billboards
and commercials and stuff
and you see people you grind it with.
People that you really know.
Who you really know.
Who you saw in that circle,
who you saw at that lounge.
This is going beyond comedy.
This ain't even just hating.
Just like motherfuckers be happy for all motherfuckers getting it.
Yeah, man.
I feel get excited for people like Kanye and stuff like that.
Like I'm one of people where, like, I just be excited.
I think that's why I'm, you know, which is why with me I got to control my niceness.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
I was in my crazy situation again.
That's funny as hell, though, real.
Because I was just about, you still fuck with Kanye, even if you, even now.
After the classic incidents you had with Kanye Bodyguard,
that joke was one of my favorite little real jokes.
But you know, they had to fire that dude.
They had, because he did it again.
Hold up, real.
For the people who don't know, just briefly,
you got one of the Kanye bodyguards fired?
Hold up, bro.
That's the headline.
Let's talk about that shit for a minute.
No, no, no, no, no.
No, real to get a fire.
This podcast shit right here, real.
This is the type of shit that make podcasts go viral.
We're thirsty for anything.
He had to have three more beatups before they let that dude over.
He got beat up.
Oh, he should have been fine.
No, no, no, no, no.
He tried to get three more people to business.
Oh, okay.
He was, he had an attitude problem, man.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like, you can't be a bodyguard with attitude, bro.
You got to, you got some type of, like, patient.
Like, Kevin Hart got the best bodyguards, not to say anybody has.
Be quite out of his security is top-notch.
They cool, you know, but they could tell if something happened,
they're going to be breaking neck.
They don't fuck around.
Yeah.
Right.
Intimid.
They're like two CIA agents, you know what I'm saying?
like they blend in that's what you
they got the shit in their ear it ain't connected
to nothing but it's in their ear
nigga I was at the BET Awards
this weekend Floyd Mayweather
bodyguard got a motherfucking bodyguard
I was like these niggas got
protection for the protection
it was a big nigger
standing to a little nigga next door
I was like that's his bodyguard
god damn
there would be no breaches
in that security
oh bad
that's it but you got to do that stuff
though. Once again, it was one of those things
like, and I never wanted to
do that type of thing, but you, you know, I got to
have at least one person with me, you know what I'm saying?
Especially at the career.
I'm like, come on, man, I ain't got to do that.
Right. Hey, man, but see, you're doing
some flash shit on Instagram, man.
You got your own private plane. You'll be
flying private jets and shit.
They're funny, the private jet
pitch is funny to everybody, but it was
a jet just sit-in-air. And they were
just, you weren't he supposed to be on it.
No, they were, no, they were pitching it to me.
pitching it, like the guy was showing me
and said, you know, if you ever need a service. I was actually
getting an award at night from the Urban League.
And it was just a jet there. They just, you know,
they told me what the jet does and how much it would cost
or stuff like that. So, I mean, that private jet thing
could come soon. I think so.
That's what so. How much?
Just how much if I wanted to go, like, just down the street?
It depends on where you go. Oh, I see, down the street.
Like, like, from Birmingham, from Atlanta. I ain't trying to go
real far. I just want...
That sounds like about four, five hundred hours.
4,500
If you cool with the nigga
It'd be like 10,000 probably
10,000 to go all right
Nick you might as well drive my nigga
I am
Hey Lil real
Do me a favor man
Shout out your social media

They ain't going to just let some little black comedians.
They end up with him like to do a little way to get the bull.
