The Adam and Dr. Drew Show - #1753 Wrestling With Nature

Episode Date: August 2, 2023

Adam and Drew debate social norms and social psychology today, mentioning certain evangelical methods of control we’re seeing in various circles of our society. Also, how controlling and confusing l...anguage can be exerted for specific control with examples of how they’ve changed over time, and what they may look like today. Starting point is 00:02:13 Should we do a little valve talk? I know that's on your mind. No, okay. Get into another episode. Thank you. Thank you, Drew. Oh, goodness. There's so much going on in the world i i didn't i don't know
Starting point is 00:02:26 what to make of anything anymore you know i just walk around kind of confused i'm i'm confused a lot too and i don't remember any of this confusion from the past so let's try to figure this out. You're always, I'm always, and I think you're always as well, trying to weigh not understanding what's going on in the state of confusion with, well, you're just old. So of course you're confused. I worry that that's what this is. Right, right. I was like, could it be every person in my age feels like this i maybe or maybe it's the amount of time that transpires since when you did sort of have a handle on things and how you feel later in life yeah i don't know i but i don't think it's us in age i think we're living in a time when we are asked to do and believe and go along with things that would have been
Starting point is 00:03:29 considered mathematically, spiritually and morally impossible 10 minutes ago. And now we're just told this is what we're doing. Yeah. You know what I mean? And then so you're sitting around and you're seeing a supreme court nominee in front of congress and some republican is saying uh can you tell me what a woman is it's like i'm not a biologist like now if you saw that tape when you were in high school you'd be like what do you mean you don't know? I can't answer that.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Like, I believe. Now, we can keep going down this path. But I don't know how much of it is an intentional construct to confound everyone and just cash in by a small number of people or people actually believe what's going on? People believe it and it's also the latter there in the sense that – I just sent Rob – you know who Rob Henderson is? He's a social psychologist from Cambridge. If you describe him, I might. He's an Asian kid who grew up with a lot of trauma, ended up going to the military. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:57 And ended up at Yale and became a philosopher. Yes. Just one thing after another. Just this very, very bright dude. And I sent him a page out of this Lennon biography I'm reading where Lennon describes using exactly what's going on today to just cow your enemies. Just get your way. Well, I think – could this be an apt description? every like caper movie i watched in the 70s or tv show they'd go into this you know hotel or some crowded area departments or something and set off the fire alarm yeah and they set the fire alarm off and people are like oh whoa what's going on everyone everyone everyone you know
Starting point is 00:05:42 so people are sort of chaotic meanwhile they're sliding in and stealing yeah everything because people are freaked out by the fire alarm yeah so is this what they're doing it it feels like that that's what it feels that's what that's what all of covid felt like to me like oh it's just gonna pull the fire alarm we're gonna confuse everybody we're gonna get them super anxious and worked up i'm gonna throw a rock at that beehive you know get them all agitated and running around then we're gonna slide in and we got a lot of rules and we're gonna get paid that's what it felt like it felt like that it did and to some extent it was that yes why the press was so collaborative in it was again the confusing that's the confusing part it was to me and by the way my profession was right well that's the whole thing like uh you know
Starting point is 00:06:34 jam us now referring to to women or men as birthing people and stuff like oh how did you get the scientists the doctors academics politicians well politicians i get cnn how did you get them all to go along on the retarded hayride reminds me so much of the opioid thing god it reminds me of that it was the exact same strategy even evangelists that got going they got the regulators they got the regulators. They got the professional society. So it's confusing. So the times, I don't know why, but I was driving in and I was thinking of autism. I've always said, Drew, for 20 some odd years, I always went language, language, language. Control.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Control. Because you're a mom. Control. My grandmother. Grandmother. Control the language. Correct. Control.
Starting point is 00:07:25 That's how it worked. And I used to say years, 25 years ago, you know, they'd say, I'd say, you blind? Seeing impaired. I'd go, so you can see something? Seeing impaired. I'd go, blind or not blind? Like, I wouldn't, I did not, did not go along. I did not go along with victim of rape because that turned into rape survivor.
Starting point is 00:07:52 Lots of, and I would go, what the fuck? What do you care? You were either raped or you're blind or you're raped by a blind guy. One or the other. What's this thing where you have to control all of it? It is in hyperspeed top gear right now. And I don't know why I was thinking about it, but some maybe Arizona congressman or something. I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:08:14 I mean, you can look it up. He got on the floor. And he obviously meant to say people of color, but he said colored people. Right. And everybody's upset. Now, I don't know that they're really upset i i'm always curious like are you really upset or is the first stop and the difference between people of color and colored people is the same difference between you saying i'm a rams fan
Starting point is 00:08:40 or a fan of the rams That's the difference, retards! Except for one of them's foreboding. You know what I mean? You can't say Rams fan. You must say fan of the Rams. You cannot say colored people. You must say people of color, which is the exact
Starting point is 00:09:00 same statement. It's exactly the same. And the idea that you're making this rule suggests that you're not upset over the use of the word color or colored it's that you would like to set up an obstacle course and watch everyone dance which is so odd but that's all that's all it can be, right? Yeah. Yeah. And then you can act very upset and have a big reaction, right? And then get more of your way. Is that what we're talking about?
Starting point is 00:09:35 You get power by doing that. So your daughter, who goes by Jennifer. If you called her Jen, she could then get upset, get angry, accuse you of, you know. Misnaming. Misnaming. And then when allowance came around, asked you to give more because what how she'd been slighted
Starting point is 00:10:07 because you'd shortened her name. Yeah. Isn't that what this is all about? It's how it works. It's how it works. Yeah. Here's the guy to make me laugh.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Well, Mr. Chairman, though, that was unbelievably inspiring. My amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve. Okay. It has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or black people or anybody can serve. Okay. It has nothing to do with color of your skin, any of that stuff. What we want to, what we want to preserve and maintain is the fact that our military does not
Starting point is 00:10:38 become a social experiment. We want the best of the best. We want to have standards that guide who's in what unit, what they do. And I'm going to tell you guys right now, the Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians, the North Koreans, they are not doing this because they want the strongest military possible. I hope my colleagues on the other side can understand what we're doing. Thank you so much. Mr. Spann. I'm asking to be recognized to have the words colored people. For what purposes, gentle lady, seek recognition? I'd like to be recognized to have the words colored people stricken from the record.
Starting point is 00:11:20 I find it offensive and very inappropriate. All right. So this is what, by the way, this is what he's mentioned about the Chinese military and the Russian military. This is exactly what they'd like us arguing about. Right. He's talking about a fighting force. We're talking about colored people versus people of color. Colored people versus people of color.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Find some from a different planet and try to, you explain to them why people of color is not only accepted, it's good, but if you say colored people, you're going to fight. Colored people has a history, to be fair, has a history. Yeah, but get rid of color then altogether. That's what I'm saying. We don't use the term Negro anymore or a version of it. It's just gone. I'm saying colored has its history. I don't know why people of color, I don't know why calling someone a server versus a waiter is any better.
Starting point is 00:12:27 It sounds like servant to me yeah i yeah yeah i don't i don't know i'm stewardess flight attendant you know what i mean this is the plan cockpit flight deck well it's got the word cock and pit in it i think that was the thing but um so not a perfect example this is just change for the sake of change but it's all there because you do enough people speak in front of a microphone enough they're going to screw up and say colored people versus people of color they're going to miss it's going to happen and then you can be waiting to pounce and pretend like that was something other than a flub. Yeah, that's the hard part. Well, also, they never do this part, too.
Starting point is 00:13:12 He said colored people and black people. What does that mean? I think he was thinking about brown and Indian, other people of color. He just said he misspoke. Yeah, he misspoke. and Indian, other people of color. He just said he misspoke. Yeah, he misspoke.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Because if you say and black people, then the thing, if you said, if you came up, all right, you're not supposed to say Eskimo anymore. I didn't know that, but good. Thank you for telling me. Well, every group has something you can't say if they've been around longer than 10 minutes. Right. Or maybe you can't say Indians. You have to say indigenous people. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Right. Right. Right. Which is confusing because there's indigenous people around the world. All right. Anyway, the point is this. If he said forget about colored people or people of color. If he said Eskimos and black people and whatever, you wouldn't think he was talking about black people because he said Eskimos.
Starting point is 00:14:16 So he said and black people. Yeah. So then colored wasn't what he was thinking. Right. He was thinking about other colors. Yeah. But here's the whole point. Let's shut down this discussion about our military
Starting point is 00:14:29 and start squabbling about nothing. Okay. You know, back to these sort of interesting topics, I learned something about the surgeries, the bottom surgeries that they're doing for trans, male to female, something I had not contemplated but uh i was watching an interview male to female male to female is is is that where the lion's share of
Starting point is 00:14:54 it is going these days i don't know where we're at there's a lot of penises being constructed from arms and legs a lot i think you're just thinking about sports yeah maybe sorry so and we've seen one in 90 day fiance it seemed to work pretty good right that kid i'm talking about the english or the italian girl no no no the the um i don't know what he is but that kid that went down to columbia he's a male he's a bull oh yes yes they're very small one yeah yeah he's a male. Oh, yes. The very small one. Yeah, yeah. He was a female to male and has a fully constructed penis. He still won't be winning any male competitions. And she doesn't. She seems like, oh, cool.
Starting point is 00:15:32 It seems to work. That's good. And anyway, something I was not aware of, that if you take pubertal blockers, puberty blockers, you don't, the penis and the testes don't enlarge. And so they don't have enough tissue to work with to do the bottom surgeries if you want to get rid of the penis and make a vagina.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Isn't that interesting? Yeah. I mean, they work with it. They apparently have things they do. They actually have to go inside the abdomen and create the vagina out of the peritoneum, which to me is like, oh, my God, it's a huge operation. Where do these surgeons even come from? That's so insane to me.
Starting point is 00:16:15 It sounds insane. There was this one guy I've been interviewed. He does them all day long. Oregon, in Oregon. I'm sure that interview is available. I just couldn't imagine that showing up to work and doing that. Now, there's a lot more buyer's regret than in the past, I think, or remorse about the people that switched over.
Starting point is 00:16:42 But he wouldn't see it, right? No. remorse about the people that switched over. But he wouldn't see it, right? He's just busy doing the surgery. But my argument would be, Drew, but you can help me with this. It reminds me of the attorneys that are fighting to keep people on the street who are killing them by keeping them from care. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:00 Okay. Right. Okay. Back in the day when we would discuss this subject, you had to be under the supervision of a psychiatrist or psychologist for one year before you transition. You had to live as that sex. And there were some hurdles. That gender, rather. Yes. Well, you had to have therapy for a period of time. You had to have the diagnosis, and then they would have you live as that gender for, I think, a year. So what happened to those barriers to entry? Didn't they used to exist?
Starting point is 00:17:36 They used to exist. I mean, I don't – all right. They were felt to be unnecessary. Really? I disagree with that um now these weren't protocols that were in regulated per se i think it was more of a oh i'll put it to you this way before you got your bariatric surgery back in the day, you just couldn't lose that weight. You know?
Starting point is 00:18:10 Yeah. Doctors would say, you know what? Let's try some diet and exercise. They'd require them to lose some weight first. Right. Let's get it down to some optimal something. Let's work on this and or then see maybe we don't need the surgery at all. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:27 But if you can transform this with diet and exercise. Correct. I don't know that that's happening anymore. Not at all. They're going right for the scalpel, right? Except they were doing that. And then they discovered lots of downsides to that. Maybe it isn't so easy.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Maybe it didn't cure everything. What do you mean they were doing it? They were doing it with that degree of speed right to surgery. And people were getting fucked up. Oh, well, no. They were telling diet and exercise. And then they went right to the knife. And now they're slowing down.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Right. And now we have a Zambic and that's the end of it. Now there's no more surgeries. And people are living with dumping syndromes and horrible, all kinds of horrible stuff. Esophagy, reflux. What do you mean? With Ozambic? Or after the surgery?
Starting point is 00:19:14 They're left with all this stuff from having their plumbing reconstructed. Surgery is massive, people. Surgery is a huge deal. I won't even get my shoulders repaired i've been waiting for five years because it's such a big deal to have your body worked on that so would we could we kind of say that the gastric bypass and the gender change the fucking top surgery bottom surgery is it starting to kind of go are they following the same trajectories
Starting point is 00:19:51 meaning okay I mean and now the gender reassignment surgery is behind by some number of years but behind what I'm sorry I'm not getting it following the same trajectory as the gastric bypass. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:05 Yes. In that, just for the audience and maybe for Drew, started off by saying, I'm fat and I want to undergo a surgery procedure. And the doctor back in the day would go, well, you know what? Let's try some exercise and something. And if that doesn't work,
Starting point is 00:20:23 then we can come back and revisit this uh with the gender alterations it would be talk to a therapist live as a woman or live as a man let's make sure and after a year's time of doing this then i'll get the scalpel out all right and then it fast forwarded to you want to get gastric bypass. What day is it? Monday. See you on Wednesday. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Okay. And you want to become a chick. You want to become a dude. I'll see you Wednesday. Yeah. Now the gastric bypass, lots of complications. Priscilla, not Priscilla Presley. I know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Priscilla Presley's daughter. Yeah, I know. I know we're both whiffing on her name. Damn. Damn. I know. And by the way, though. But there's so much more I know to her that you whiff on.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Yeah, for sure. But by the way, when it comes to Presley, that whole story is incomplete. Incomplete. There's a lot missing. We'll get into that in a second. But, oh, we need to take a, what the fuck is, not Priscilla Presley, but.
Starting point is 00:21:32 The daughter. Lisa Marie. Lisa Marie Presley. It was the two names. I think it was the two names that fucked us up. So just to finish. So now they're holding off. They're slowing down on it.
Starting point is 00:21:45 You can't just rush in and get your gut readjusted. There's going to be side effects. Now we're also in the gender reassignment surgery just hitting the point where sane people are starting to speak up and go, whoa, whoa, whoa, this is too much, too fast, too early, too often. In certain areas. And too permanent. Here and there. Starting to.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Here and there, yes. Yes, it will get, the pendulum shall swing further. But I'm saying trajectory-wise, it's following the same arc, but the gender reassignment surgery is a decade behind in terms of the arc. All right, we'll take a quick break. Be right back after this. Download the free Angie mobile app today or visit Angie.com. Again, that is Angie, A-N-G-I.com. All right. So, Drew, Lisa Marie Presley. So, I always think about you because it was a bowel obstruction corner report. You know, bowel obstruction is kind of weird. Why are you walking around with a bowel obstruction corner report, you know, bowel obstruction. It's kind of weird.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Why are you walking around with a bowel obstruction without pain? Bowel obstruction means what? It means the most common cause is there's some scarring from previous surgery and the small bowel twists around that and cuts off its supply, blood supply essentially, and dies. And is it, would you not go to the bathroom for a long period of time? It's not even so much constipation, but pain and abdominal swelling and stuff. Right. And if you had dead bowel from a gastric bypass, what about the fact that she was on so much opiates that she couldn't feel the pain or maybe had some motility problem from the
Starting point is 00:24:05 opiates well they i was watching the news and it was like well she was on a prescription drug which was for people that had opioid addiction so suboxone then or some version of it i didn't recognize that name but it was some version of that right so didn't recognize that name, but it was a version of that. So there was, and then there were like, and therapeutic amounts of opioids. Oh boy. Which is like,
Starting point is 00:24:34 oh boy. Not sure what that meant. That's no bueno. And then somebody said, well, maybe the, they sort of suggested that the opioids were from another procedure. Like she just had another procedure? I guess.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I mean, it was all – I was thinking of you the whole time. That does happen. When they have a procedure, you do put opiates on top of the Suboxone. Right. That happens. But valve structure? It's just – what? It's something – it's so odd.
Starting point is 00:25:06 And to have feet of that small bowel? What happened? That is a description of sort of what was happening, but not the diagnosis. You know what I mean? There's something underneath that. What do you think? I cannot figure it out. It's just a very odd situation.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Like, how did the blood supply get cut off to large areas of her bowel? How? Well, she had the bypass. Yeah, but again, the bypass. And also, listen. And why did she have gastric bypass? She didn't strike me as an obese person. Look, one, at some point in her career, you could have said, she looks a little chubby in the face or some version of that,
Starting point is 00:25:56 but no reason to get surgery. I wonder, you talk about the Ozempic and stuff like that. I wonder, you talk about the Ozempic and stuff like that. Yeah. My fear with everybody is this sort of easy way out, kind of, I'll get on the Ozempic and whatever. And my thing, I'll get liposuction, I'll get, you know, whatever. My thing is always like, be careful. What you're dealing with here is aladdin's lamp don't you know what i'm saying and every story in the bible you know i wish to be the most powerful it doesn't work diet and exercise works that's it don't start
Starting point is 00:26:42 fucking around everybody you're really fucking rolling the dice there are no free lunches in nature you know who you learn that from you yeah you are fucking rolling the dice and here's the bigger problem yeah it isn't even if it works perfectly yeah it's like you don't know what this path of i have a magical genie that'll exercise for me yeah how's that work that genie does all the exercise i don't want to do and then i get all the benefit when i go to the beach don't do it yeah it's sound by the way this i'm nine year olds thing yeah it sounds fantastic don't do it you're missing the second part of it which is having dominion over yourself having done it so to speak yes and uh it's the brain of the
Starting point is 00:27:32 vat story goes right to that but but the fact is that i i don't object to giving things a jump start but it's not the answer. I don't mind. Like the gastric bypass was going to cure obesity. No, no, no, no, no. These are adjuncts. These are things that get things going and be useful. You've had trouble getting started. You start with the Ozempic, fine, and then you're going to have to really pay attention.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Right. Not gain it back, start exercising, do all those things, or you will. What do you think the long-term Ozempic effect is going to be? I don't. Well. I'll tell you what it's going to be for sure. What? People's minds weakened.
Starting point is 00:28:13 Yeah. Yeah. Because they're taking a pill. Yeah, yeah. For something they need to control. There is that. I worry about sort of protein loss. It's so rapid, this loss, that it's not good loss.
Starting point is 00:28:26 It gets things going for people that really have a problem, but you've got to get that diet right as you go the rest of the way or you'll be wasted in lots of different ways. All right. The guys that are trans, speaking of trans males or transitioning, don't you guys have a story for us? I do. So I have a motivational speaker,
Starting point is 00:28:49 stress management coach, and social influencer who has transitioned and has gone viral talking about his lonely life as a man post-transition. We have a video here that we can show you of his ordeals as a man. Man, hire more. Okay.
Starting point is 00:29:04 So this was a woman yeah now nobody told me how it worked pretty good yeah it looks great a man is at closer friendships with random women i met in the bathroom before i transitioned at clubs because of how open women are than I've had in my eight years of transitioning. Because women are just so much more vulnerable and deep than men. But to have known, and I think a lot of trans men feel this, is we knew what death felt like before we transitioned. We knew what it felt like to have people want to hug us. And to have people want to talk to us and to have a community.
Starting point is 00:29:56 And then you transition and you're just a guy walking down the street that people cross the street so that they're not near you. Who does that? And friendships are so much harder to build. I don't like that. And people are colder. so much harder to build. And people are colder. What's hard is none of this invalidates how real and raw women and people who are in marginalized groups
Starting point is 00:30:12 feel about cis white men. All of that's valid. Here's the questions. Questions are, I never thought about, yeah, you're telling a bunch of people to transition, but they're not going to brain transplant. Right, right. They're thinking like a woman.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Well, not only that. Yeah, I know. I've heard a lot of that kind of thinking, too. Like that guy in the 90 Day Fiance we were talking about, there were some things he was doing. I thought, oh, that's a woman. That's how a woman's brains work. Even though he identifies as a man, some of the things he was doing with his sister and stuff,
Starting point is 00:30:46 oh, that's two sisters fighting. That's what that was. That was the first thing that came out of my mouth when we were watching. I was like, that's two sisters going at it. Right? Isn't that interesting? And yet he's much like this guy. He's a very, I don't want to say convincing, I mean thoroughly male individual.
Starting point is 00:31:02 But there's a part that nobody talks about jordan peterson talks a bit about him is that men grow up from them certainly from the moment they hit puberty on with the constant threat of violence from other men we're always aggressive towards when now we play with it you know it becomes a form of rough and tumble play, and we use sports and stuff. But the potential for being aggressed against is always there. And that's what he's talking about. That's why you're alone. You're a lone wolf.
Starting point is 00:31:39 You have to build the sort of collaborations with other men. But that's not the way women build relationships. Right. Not at all. No. So this is going to be an ongoing thing. It's interesting. If you transition. Maybe they'll help us talk more realistically
Starting point is 00:31:57 about the differences between male and female brains or relating or whatever the hell you want to call it. Well, I mean, first off, we already had Eric Garcetti and Gavin Newsom and dudes who did transition, not physically, but mentally became women in terms of thought. Most everyone who's involved with policy in Los Angeles, whether you have a penis or a vagine, thinks like a woman. Yes?
Starting point is 00:32:23 Yes. Okay. So they've transitioned. know i mean they were already different kinds of transitions there yeah yes more males as i've said many times more males in this country wear bracelets than eat stew that's a big problem how do you hunger handle a hungry man the man handler no one knows what the fuck we're talking about i i don't know why i'm like obsessed every time i see eric adams make a speech and he's standing there talking about crime or whatever the
