Starting point is 00:02:46 You're listening to the Adam and Dr. Drew show. Yeah, get it on. Dr. Drew's Ford, Ford, Ford, Ford tough. It's built Ford tough. Ford tough. Remember commercials used to be like for dudes with pickup trucks and stuff? Before they were invented, before the trucks had love? Yeah, they're made with love. They're made with love.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Oh my God. I bring it up every 10 minutes, but it doesn't feel condescending to people when they have things like, you know, here at Wendy's Burgers, we're looking to hire all stars who are rock stars to be part of our unit and our elite staff, you know, and it's like- Fighting force. Yeah, you're- Our fighting force.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Yeah, you're flipping burgers and pushing a mop for minimum wage. It doesn't, you feel good, cause I called you a rock star. And it's like all this weird, over the top, sort of chick-purbly. You know what I mean? Where they're just like, you're just saying to every kid
Starting point is 00:04:07 like, oh man, you're awesome. That's awesome. You know what I mean? It's like, what's so awesome about everything? And, and no, but I mean, just sort of like when the proclamations, the proclamations are taking these sort of wild swings in that, like I said, when I drive here every day, I pass a sign on a lifeguard station in Malibu that says, you know, stop hate at the beach, you know, and it's like, there is no hate at the beach. So that's this sort of weird, dark, sort of this strange kind of, you know, he wants to take away women's basic right to make decisions about their lives. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:04:58 Like stuff like weird, dystopian, dark, fucked up, I don't even know what they're talking about stuff. And then on the other side, Jimmy John's is hiring rock stars only to work at their Arlita branch, making sandwiches. I feel like I haven't seen those signs in about six to 12 months. Is that my wishful thinking or no?
Starting point is 00:05:20 The sign in Malibu about, there's no room for hate at the beach. It's four months old That's just one that just one up Yeah. Yeah Now that makes sense Yeah, California, dude nobody know but what I'm saying is is yelling at everyone their rock star when they're fucking not and
Starting point is 00:05:41 Then stopping hate at the beach. It's like there's both these wild inaccurate swings that have nothing to do with reality there's no hate on the beach right so here's my question then what is gratifying about that you know I mean like you could you can get a million people together, and then for a million women, and you can do the Women's March, and then I could get up there and start screaming about taking away your rights to choose over your body and your health, and everyone would start screaming and going nuts,
Starting point is 00:06:19 but it doesn't mean anything. Right, so this is really interesting to me, because I'm reading this book about 1930s Germany and how the thing got swept into what it became. And there's an American sort of diplomat there. And early in the 1930s, he used the word hysteria to describe what was happening. And I thought, oh, that is the first time
Starting point is 00:06:46 I've seen that word used to describe what happened in Germany that led to the horrific government they had. And I thought, you know, maybe it's always hysterics that gets people into these extreme ideas that are just disconnected from reality. And they get whipped into these states that that are just disconnected from reality and they get whipped into these states that they can't seem to, I mean, COVID is the greatest example that
Starting point is 00:07:11 the question is what what the hell is it strictly our vulnerabilities and media gets going with it and we have social media that really amplifies it now? I think you have to have a predilection. media that really amplifies it now? I think you have to have a predilection. Well that's okay. I see. But hang on. Why so many people? Why so many with that? I'll tell you why. I'll tell you why. What will fight it off? Like what will be the antidote for it? Yeah that's the other way of asking it. Will be religion and hobbies, big time hobbies. Or hobbies, vocations, avocations, stuff involvement. Stuff meaningful involvement. Meaningful, things you make meaning with.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Yeah. Yeah, but they have to be engaged and they have to be meaningful and they have to be meaningful and they have to have some element that is sort of physical and I don't mean you know tough mudder challenge I just mean a mechanical physical tangible kind of side it can't be the idea ideas world you know and so when you are involved, but you know, let's just, let's just say for instance, you're ready. You ready, Drew?
Starting point is 00:08:31 I'm ready. Are you sitting down? I am actually sitting down. Okay. I still could fall out of my seat, but go ahead. Let's just say you took the average Santa Monica, West side, democratic, blown fucking pussies that I have to deal with in Hollywood all fucking day,
Starting point is 00:08:52 who think there's something wrong with me, by the way. But let's just say you took the full-blown puss on the West Side, right? The guy who had- No bias, no bias here. Tons of bracelets, the guy with all the bracelets, you know, it was like telling about his daughter's pronouns and shit like that. Right. The guy went all in on COVID. Right. Okay. Yeah. And you took that guy and his wife, who's like minded, living in Santa Monica, all down with every cause, hard for COVID and Black Lives Matter and everything else. Right.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Yeah. with every cause, hard for COVID and Black Lives Matter and everything else, right? Yeah. But this event, let's say COVID or Black Lives Matter or the election, Trump's beating Kamala Harris by four points and swing states or whatever, let's say that was all going down. And it was going down during a normal, what would be period for you.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Get up, drink your way too expensive coffee, read the New York Times, watch a little CNN. How'd you know? Do a little work from home, work on, talk to some of the creative directors from the board, hit the Pilates at noon, and so on and so forth. If that took place during that, if that took place during that, you know
Starting point is 00:10:06 If covid takes place during that You're all fucking in you're all that guy that puss on the west side and san monica is all in right? Yep but now Let's say covid hits And it's right in the middle of a major remod You and your like-minded wife are doing to your santa monica house, right? And the roof's off
Starting point is 00:10:31 And you guys are gonna have to stick, you know, you're eating off a hot plate because the kitchen is ripped up now And the cabinets are delayed by three weeks and they can't do the flooring until they do the cabinets and so on and so forth. Well, where's your thinking go now with COVID? I mean, you're thinking about it, but how involved are you? You know what I mean? Because you are talking to contractors during the day and you and your wife, when you have
Starting point is 00:11:03 your discussions at night, instead of reading the New York times and wringing your hands over COVID, you're now talking about the flooring contractor. Yes. Right. So you're sufficiently distracted. And now when you head down and you got the mini fridge and that's in the living room and the hot plate and the microwave, that's in the living room and the hot plate and the microwave, that's in the living room because the kitchen's been completely gutted and the fucking plumber's supposed to be there
Starting point is 00:11:31 to do the rough in because they have the inspector for the following day scheduled and the plumber cancels. He can't come in and do the rough in, but you already scheduled the inspection for the following day on the rough plumbing. Where's your mind? Sitting around worrying about women's right to choose and autonomy over their bodies, worrying about Trump and his Hitlerian tendencies,
Starting point is 00:11:58 worried about the end of democracy, or you just fucking need that plumber to get there to rough this shit in so you can get the fucking inspection signed off on so the drywallers who are coming on the third day could close the walls up. Where are you Drew? Where are you at? You're worried about the building. You're not going to be thinking about anything else. Okay. Especially when it affects you because the roof's off and the you know. Oh and it and supposed to rain this weekend Yeah, where's your head at ringing your hands over Kovat and yelling at people to pull up masks
Starting point is 00:12:30 Are you fucking worried about the rainstorm that's coming in Saturday? Yeah. Okay. So now imagine that time society People working on farms repairing equipment people working on farms, repairing equipment, harvesters, locusts, whatever, all of that, versus the opposite of that. People just sitting in a fucking cubicle all day in air conditioning and reading the New York Times. What are you gonna get?
Starting point is 00:12:57 You're gonna get fucking hysterics. Because it doesn't affect working people. It does not affect them at all. I study them. They don't care. They're not interested versus the others, the work from home crowd, right? So the more people you force into the cubicle,
Starting point is 00:13:18 the more hysterics you're gonna have. Now, it used to be also sort of divided down between women work and men work. Men are out working at logging camps and the women are at home. So they had a little more eye toward the hysteric. Now it's all just chick work and all chicks in the workplace and all hysteric and we're fucked.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Because then all the politicians do is go, what are the scared pussies with the bracelets that live in Santa Monica and their fucking like-minded bitchy ass wives want? They go, we'll just do whatever that is. What do they want with COVID? What do they want? They want everything closed down.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Why? Because they're not in the middle of a remod. Yeah. So that's what they want. All right, well then do what they want. Because I need their votes. Right. And that's where we end. That's how we end up here.
Starting point is 00:14:07 So when people like me talk about it, it agitates whatever it is they're thinking or not thinking. And so then they tend to lash out against me. Yeah. How dare they. But what, so you've sort of alluded to the antidote, which is hobbies, avocations, or engagement. Yeah, you have to physically, you have to have stuff. And religion. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:37 But is that realistic? Either of those realistic in today's world. That's what worries me. It will be realistic for a percentage of society who understands it and it'll be impossible for everyone else. And that's where the divide will grow. I guess there's another way of going at it too, which is by somehow, and this is gonna be the hard part,
Starting point is 00:15:01 I don't know the how part, requiring honesty and integrity from press and leadership and people in power. You know what I mean? Would that be the other way to do it? We didn't have, we went through COVID, there was one person in the media who talked about fitness and losing weight and that was Bill Maher and he got screamed at. That's where we are with the press. Yeah, I. Listen I know the question is how do we get them I know where we are I know it well. No we don't get them to do anything we just ignore them. They get laughed at. That's getting them. It's the same thing. It's this right mocking and it's the same thing as saying well vote them out. Well
Starting point is 00:15:41 yeah yeah for sure but we have to make sure that happens. So speaking of voting, I haven't heard your take on Kamala Harris really, in terms of what you how you think this is going to go, what's going to happen. I mean, she's clearly going to be anointed and coronated and, and turned into Cleopatra. We talked last show about the fact that Biden may be going down faster than we know. And the 25th Amendment only takes one cabinet member and the vice president to activate. Do you know that? So we already have the vice president in a position where she might want to be the president, so it helped her get reelected.
Starting point is 00:16:32 All you need is one cabinet member to go, hey, this guy's not fit. All right. So Kamala Harris, because I listened to a retrospective of her on the Daily Wire, it was a three-parter and I suggested and narrates and it's interesting. She, you know, she's not African American. She's half African American and she's not half African American. She's Caribbean. So she's not even whatever they say and their mom's Indian. So she's not, she's Caribbean black, not African African black which I guess ultimately came from Africa right? Well look as long as we're doing the cradle of civilization argument then everyone's from Africa. No no no I understand but people were imported to the Caribbean for slavery right? Well yeah I mean I mean but her her ancestry is Caribbean I mean everybody's black I I don't know I would just call black. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I would just call everything. I don't know. If I was Caribbean and I kept being called African American, I don't think I would like it. Right, and the claim is the skin color, people that don't look like Adam, is what makes the difference. So why get into these arguments about gender?
Starting point is 00:17:42 All right, well let's not get mired. She's Indian. Her mom's Indian. She's an out-of-nation Indian. She's a Caribbean dad. Dad was like a radical professor, shocker over at Berkeley in the 70s or something like that. He split, mom raised her.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Raised a lot in Canada, I think, by the Indian mom, although she's half black. They're always the race of the dad who abandoned them, not the mom who stayed and raised them. Same with Obama. We've heard that years ago. I know. It's a real...
Starting point is 00:18:17 They always dislike the mom that did the work or the dad that did the work. The one that left is the one they love. Well, no, no, only if they're black. Well black well no i would argue that we heard a lot of that from you know oh my dad i love him my mom's such a b.i.g. no no you're missing the point society calls her african-american society calls society calls barack obama african--American his dad split. The dad split, the mom hung out and raised the child, and the left who loves strong moms gives no credit to the mom and gives the heritage to the dad
Starting point is 00:18:54 who abandoned the family. Yeah. That make sense to you, Drew? That makes sense to me. It does? Yeah. Why? It makes sense to me that what you've described
Starting point is 00:19:04 as what society does. Yeah, but? It makes sense to me that what you've described as what society does. Yeah, but why do they do that? Oh, because you get more, you get more traction. They need her to be black. Yeah. She's clearly half Indian and was raised in that culture by an Indian woman, but she's black. Okay. Okay. Take a quick break. Say the rest about Kamala right after this. All right, then I think went to a private school in Canada and blah blah blah, you know, all the hard scrabble, busing and segregation and stuff, not a big part of her world. But ended up in San Francisco and ended up hooking up with Willie Brown, who was the mayor of San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:19:52 She was 29, he was 60, and he was married and he went out with her, showed her around and got her cushy jobs on boards and got her into stuff and just you know It's just kind of a time when it's kind of like smoking, you know No, here's what I'm saying. Are you ready? Drew? I'm ready People smoke now they do smoke. There's a lot of celebrities who smoke, you know where they smoke They smoke in an alley outside of the club Crouched down behind a dumpster because they don't want people to see him or take pictures of them smoking, right? Barack obama smokes right right, but they used to just light up in the club, right in the airplane in there
Starting point is 00:20:35 Well what i'm saying is Yes, they did it out in the open now. They don't but it still goes on This is kind of willy brown just kind of going. Hey man I run San Francisco and I'm a pretty powerful player here in California politics and this is my girlfriend. And she's 29 and we're going out. People forget how the 70s was so fucked up.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Hey man, whatever you're into, man. I'm into this chick and I'm married and that's just me, man. What are you gonna say? Yeah, Kamala Harris was 14 in the 70s Drew. I'm just saying I'm just saying. You're saying what? The 70s gave us that. No, that's not what you said. You said it's the 70s. I know I know. Alright Drew, be more precise Would you? This is 1990 at this at this point. Is it? I thought that was like the mid 80s or something She was with him. I didn't realize. Kamala Harris is 29 years old. What do you think? She's 81 now?
Starting point is 00:21:31 Who's the smart one in this? Oh, look, she's 29, right? Okay. At this time. She's turning 60 in October, okay? She was born in 1964. In 1994, she was 30 got it so this would have to be 1993 not the 70s yeah all right don't make things difficult truth
Starting point is 00:21:52 got it all right she this is in the 90s and no one gives a shit and and Willie Brown's wife you know she knew her job hang back shut up, you know what I mean? So So and meanwhile, he's just walking around getting her cush gigs on You know boards and things like that because he's she's the girlfriend of the mayor You know and then later on she runs for DA She wins You know and then later on she runs for DA she wins She's pretty shitty because she's kind of she done it She did a few shitty things like there was a guy in prison maybe on death row
Starting point is 00:22:33 But maybe just in prison for life and she had the evidence to exonerate him, but she held it back Until like after the election or whatever like some pretty shitty, you know, had to toggle between tough on crime, but I don't want to arrest black guys for smoking weed, but I will if it'll get me elected. She's basically just a complete chameleon. I mean, you can say soulless, which is kind of the negative version of chameleon, and the chameleon's taken on
Starting point is 00:23:05 a kind of negative connotation. But it's really, she's just whatever, whenever, doesn't, you know, whatever she's got to be. You know what I mean? Like she was raised by an Indian woman, I think in the religion, with the culture. And when people go, the first African American, she never stops and goes, listen, my mom would take kind of offense to that. She's Indian, we ate curry-based food, this was our religion, and my dad really didn't raise us much. Is she Hindi?
Starting point is 00:23:38 Is that part of her religious thing? I don't know. Yeah, she, I mean, Byron can look it up or someone can look it up. But the point is, is she doesn't, she's whatever she's gotta be, wherever she's gotta be, to whoever she's gotta be in front of, she doesn't care.
Starting point is 00:23:51 She doesn't have a conviction, you know what I mean? The thing that's funny is, out of all the politicians I've seen come down the pike in the last 30 years, Trump has the most convictions. Now, literally now as well, but I mean, you go, he wants that border fucking shut down, man. Man, he wants that border shut down. And man, he wants the drill. He wants energy independence, and he wants the lower taxes,
Starting point is 00:24:25 or whatever that thing is, right? And he wants the embassy moved to Jerusalem or whatever. Now you can go, I disagree with all of his convictions, but I know who he is. I didn't really know who Hillary Clinton was, did you? She wants women to be empowered. Yeah. So they can have a seat at the table.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I don't know what Kamala Harris wants. Do you know what I mean? And I don't think she knows what she wants. And she doesn't. But here's the thing. She doesn't care what she wants. She wants to be elected. And so she wants whatever you want, is what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I'm with you on that. But I'm so unclear about who she is and what she wants. I start fantasizing, maybe she could do a good job. Maybe she's got some ideas. Maybe she'll step up a little bit. You know what I mean? Because it's that mysterious to me. Well, I mean, she's more progressive than Biden.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Is that true? Do we know that? Yes. OK. I see. I didn't even really even know that. She is. I know a lot of weird rhetoric that she uses, but it's all gobbledygook. No, she is more progressive and we would be... Well, let's think about this, hold on a second. She may be more progressive than Biden,
Starting point is 00:25:47 but Biden's, the people that actually were running Biden's presidency were more progressive than Biden. Right, right. You know what I mean? She was raised on Hinduism. I'm looking at my screen, because my screen has malfunctioned a little bit here because I touched something on it. There's like a little bit here because I touched something on
Starting point is 00:26:06 There's like a little speck of dust or hair on the screen and I was like I'm just gonna touch it knock it off and then it created a weird gray box on the screen because I touched it and I have No way for the gray box the weird flag gray box to go away that Amy's looking at because all I did was touch the screen That's that I made I and I thought about it. I was like should I touch this? gray box to go away that Emmy's looking at because all I did was touch the screen that I made and I thought about it. I was like, should I touch this? I was like, well, there's a piece of lint on it. I'm just going to take it off my finger. It created Emmy a weird gray box flag and it will not go away now because I touched it. But I also don't know what's in it for you as a screen. You know what I mean? Like here's the way to get a
Starting point is 00:26:43 box it'll never remove. Just touch it. Anyway, she was raised with Hinduism and Christianity. Kamala means lotus in Sanskrit. Because her parents divorced when she was seven, she also grew up in Oakland and Berkeley attending predominantly black churches. And by the way, who knows how much of anything on the internet's true.
Starting point is 00:27:06 But the point is, she's whatever, whenever. Look, she didn't, Willie Brown was a fat, balding 60-year-old dude. She was a hot 29-year-old, but she needed stuff from Willie Brown. So she hung out with Willie Brown. And Willie Brown provided a lot of stuff, opened a lot of doors and helped out a lot with her political career, which she needed. And then at a certain point,
Starting point is 00:27:34 Willie Brown's wife had probably had enough and so they went their separate ways. But he wanted something, she wanted something. Was she attracted to Willie Brown? Did she love Willie Brown? Did she see Willie Brown from across the room? Would she have dated Willie Brown if he was a cab driver and not such a power player in California politics? I would assume no, but we don't know. That's my whole point. We have no idea. Montell about her too, right? Yeah. He dated her for a while, yes? Yes. And did you learn anything?
Starting point is 00:28:08 No, he didn't want to say anything about her, which is also a thing where there's people that people don't want to talk about, which is not a good reflection on them. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, but if it were really bad, I think people can't hold themselves back, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, but if it were really bad, I think people can't hold themselves back, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:28:28 No, when it's really bad, they speak in rhymes, in riddles, you know? It's true. Kamala, Kamala's Kamala, they say the name twice. How's Kamala Harris? Kamala, she's Kamala, you know. She's gonna do what she's gonna do. I love her. I love her. They always do this weird thing. Kind of reminds me of my mom never doing anything for her kids but then explaining there's great love. They hop. You know what
Starting point is 00:28:59 I mean? So what they don't do is if you said to me, like, oh, what kind of guy is Jimmy? I wouldn't go, I love Jimmy, I love him. There's great love. I'd go, no, he's a real generous guy. He does things for people. He always has time for people. You don't go right to love. Love is where you go,
Starting point is 00:29:21 love is what you say after you molested your kid, now your kid's an adult, and you go, but that was great love, you know, but I always loved you. You know what I mean, like love, you know, that always, when you really into somebody, when you think somebody's unique and special, you know, when people bring up, you know, Nick Santor or something, I go, that guy's sharp.
Starting point is 00:29:42 He's a sharp guy, and that guy's smart. You know what I mean? He knows how to get things done. Whatever, whomever, or not. You could bring up other people in my life and you wouldn't get that kind of glowing review. But what I'm saying is, you don't really get the, I don't really wanna talk about that person
Starting point is 00:30:02 that's never a great review. Right, right. You know? Listen, she's a climber. She was with Willie Brown because she needed to be with Willie Brown and Montel was very popular and could take her to all the parties
Starting point is 00:30:17 and she was with Montel because Montel could do something for her, I'm sure. And I don't know who she is. I don't know that you know. I don't know that anyone knows who she is. I've never heard her say anything other than talking about how great it would be to have electric buses and school buses.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Or what has been doesn't have to be what was. Yeah, but she also just says stuff like, she'll go like, imagine how great it would be to get trucks to be electric so that bread and milk and groceries could be delivered. Okay, yes with the electric fucking truck. I got it. Move on. Move the fuck on.
Starting point is 00:31:02 We're do I did the truck math. I'm way ahead with you on the truck and school buses so that children could get what they're going to and Electric school buses instead of school buses with diesel these kids would write could you imagine?
