Starting point is 00:00:00 Your first great love story is free when you sign up for a free 30-day trial at audible.ca slash Wondery. That's audible.combe, recorded live at Corolla 1 Studios with Adam Carolla and board-certified physician and addiction medicine specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky. You're listening to The Adam and Dr. Drew Show. Yeah, get it on. Scooby-dib-doo, yeah, Scooby-Doo, Scooby-Doo, and yab-dib-dib-doo. Yeah. All right. Feeling great.
Starting point is 00:00:37 I got stuff. Yeah. I don't know if you got stuff. I got stuff. What's your stuff first? Well. You're drinking stuff, first of all. Don't do it.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Just stuff in a thing that's shaken up with stuff in it, okay? I always high pause. I go, should I bring this in? Drew's going to say something. All right. Now. All right, stuff. All right.
Starting point is 00:01:00 I was doing this bit, and it's a new bit that the crowd. And by the way, how's your stand-up coming? I'm thinking a lot about it. I've got some ideas. Write stuff. I am right stuff. I am. Look, you've got a five-hour plane ride.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I know. That's when I plan to really do it. But Adam, here's the comedy. Yeah. Okay. Rodney's, by the way, New York City. That'll be Thursday. How long have I been under your tutelage?
Starting point is 00:01:31 Have I been under your thumb? 30 years. I had to look up how to make a joke. Yeah, I know. I had to look it up. I'd ask Rock. So Kat's going to do some stand-up. I'm going to do stand-up, and Drew's going to do five minutes.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Four minutes was the original. He's going to bust his hymen up there with four minutes to stand-up. I got some ideas. All right. Thinking a lot about it. None of them are great. That's the problem. Doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:01:57 But anyway. So, like I said, that'll be the late show at Rodney's in New York. I think I'm going to, okay, you'll see. We'll talk about it to the podcast. So anyway, I've been doing this new joke about, it's basically the Hoover Dam versus, you know, the Golden Gate Bridge. And it's fine. It's been working. It's nice.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Fine. But I didn't really, I was looking at kind of the Hoover Dam side of it took five years to build. But also, what I didn't realize is the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge project were both started like a year apart. They were very close to each other. Yes. And they both took about the same time to build. The Hoover Dam was five years and, you know, Golden Gate was four and a half. And it was like 31 and the other was 32.
Starting point is 00:02:54 But it was right in that same, you know. and if you lived somewhere in California, you would have stood to benefit quite a bit from those two projects, both basically started at the beginning of the 30s and ended in the middle of the 30s and then cut the ribbon, and you get your power,
Starting point is 00:03:18 and you get to cross to Tiburon. And you have Las Vegas, because you have water now. Right, right. So, okay. And then I thought, God, it was so easy back then. And we didn't have technology, obviously, like we have it, have now. Did you see what they did in China in two years?
Starting point is 00:03:38 Yeah, they built the world's tallest suspension bridge. And just to fuck with people, they put a restaurant at the top of it. Yes. Do you see that? I thought, oh, yeah, that's a nice, like, FU to the United States, I thought. Yeah, now. Two years. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:52 And then we can't do stuff. We don't have a train, we don't have a reservoir, we can't. By we, we mean California in particular. Yeah, yeah. But in general, but also in particular, California, I would guess sort of the blue or the state, the slower the process. In general, you can move things along faster and redder states because it's less regulated. But we can't really do anything anymore. And not because we're not capable.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Well, yes, not because... Look at Malibu. Malibu tells you all you need to know. What do you mean? We're capable of rebuilding. We shall not. Something you predicted in a hotel room. Oh, well, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I'm only picking on the word capable because, of course, there's men who can operate equipment and do things lickety-split. We can build a stadium in two and a half years if we need to. Yes. But if the ladies that run the government won't let the guys who run the steam shovels get to work, then we're not going to do anything. And that's kind of where we're at. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:00 And I don't know why it's acceptable. Most people just kind of live with it or something. I don't think most people know, understand. They don't really get what's going on. It's the same thing with homeless. They're like, we need housing. It's like, no, no, no. they're not if you keep focused there it's never going to change right and then you get
Starting point is 00:05:24 uh jane fonda speaking to bill mar wanting more regulation oh yeah and her world that's her world so she wants more of this more government more regulation but um but also there's a kind of utility side of it which is the golden gate bridge was built or they started the project coming up on a hundred years ago, and we've gotten a lot of use out of that bad boy. And Hoover Dam coming up on a hundred years, and we got a lot of use out of it. You know, it's not a hypothetical thing. You know what I mean? It's not like... Let's even talk about the social aspects, jobs, and people are being elevated and lifted up and be able to buy cars and raise their family and send them to school. It's all because of that stuff. Right. Primarily, I'm not just
Starting point is 00:06:14 talking about the project itself. I'm talking about all the economic growth that came. with it. Yeah. I mean, everything good, but lots of people who elevate themselves to a position of power don't like that stuff. But think about it. What would the pushback be from the people that don't like it? Right now? Let's say I were to say, well, you know, the Las Vegas sprawling city now in San Francisco, they've got both sides of the bridge engaged in, you look at how the city has sprung up. I think what you would hear is, yeah, but the homeless, yeah, but the effect on the environment. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But also they would say something like, oh, you know, that that was native lands there that were. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, what, listen, what they want is,
Starting point is 00:07:02 is nothing. And I don't think, they kind of want destruction in a weird way. Yeah, nothing meets destruction, a kind of nihilism kind of thing, but you cannot say that out loud. So you just have to fight everything. But the people they claim to be fighting for are the ones that suffer the most from not doing these things. Yeah, I know, but that's not, it's no, nevermind to that. I mean, it's not, it's not their concern. And also they don't get that far down the road with it. Well, we'll refresh you with Bill Maher and Shane Fond. In case you didn't know what a crackpot she was and by the way the other thing about her which is insane
Starting point is 00:07:43 revered you know what I mean and I have to explain to women all the times oh Jane Paoh oh I love her I like no she's a fucking destructive idiot well and then my wife looks at and goes that's a half million dollars worth of face work and a $3,000 blouse right and
Starting point is 00:07:58 that's all cool for her that she gets that okay and Drew's just talking about Bill see that's how a joke works he doesn't like regulations well we live in a soup of toxic chemicals if we don't regulate it we're all going to die of cancer
Starting point is 00:08:15 that's true and he doesn't do anything there's also many regulations that aren't necessary that aren't I mean this you really don't believe that the state we live in California is lacking regulation there's over 300,000
Starting point is 00:08:30 regulations I mean I once well maybe they're needed they're not when I try to I put it in a garage door. I had to have three inspections. There should have been none. I should be allowed to change my garage door.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Are you kidding? Really, it was about a garage door? Absolutely. I'm sorry. Yeah, that is. No, you know this about California. No, I don't. No, she doesn't.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I'm sorry, I don't. You don't, you've never heard that California is overtaxed and over-regulated. That we are a one-party state where there's sort of no checks on that sort of extreme left-est. and that what do you think I don't for a minute consider California a state that is extreme leftist Wow
Starting point is 00:09:14 Not at all, not any way Well that shows where your politics That's not where mine are Not in any way, not at all Doesn't think any of that Yeah so anyway She's a delusional bitch Who many women look up to
Starting point is 00:09:30 Which is bad She's not a good example She's a crackpot or something. Whatever she is, she should be ignored because her opinion should be invalid because you just, I just heard 45 seconds her and go, okay, this bitch can't think. So I'm no longer going to come to her for answers on any subject because she can't think clearly. We need young people. Young people need to be brought into the world where they get to have fun, they get to reproduce.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Well, yeah. What I'm saying is it's not just a kind of hypothetical. If you get stuff done, you get a bridge and a dam or an airport or public transportation or light rail or bullet train. You get stuff you can use and then build for the people that she wants to support. Right. But I've really been thinking a lot about young people lately. Like I'm starting to see glimmers of hope Even in France as a woman named Maraisal Who I just listened to her over the weekend
Starting point is 00:10:40 I'm like oh shit this here we go Like she's like 25 years old It's just spitting fire I'm like yes okay And that's in a essentially socialist country So it's starting to peek up And weird they had a dream about it Where young people were casting out old people They were riding in some car
Starting point is 00:10:59 And in my dream they were just mocking the shit shit out of them, and they realized, oh, that's not enough. We have to drive them out of town. We just stand behind their car and get and mock the car and drive them out. I don't know that young people know how to build anything, though. That's kind of the problem. Well, did you see what Trump did with Harvard? You would love this.
Starting point is 00:11:20 He's requiring them to invest $500 million in a trade school. Oh, that's good. Yeah. So there's movement. It's just we need a wind. You need the sales need to fill. It's happening. It's little tiny glimmers, but it's not a full sale yet.
Starting point is 00:11:40 All right. Second subject for you, Drew. Let's talk about, I had a thought on the way here. You're almost having my thoughts. So there's a judge who got appointed by Biden, who's a female judge who just gave a light sentence to the guy who wanted to assassinate Kavanaugh. right yeah now so you kind of go okay what's going on here and they go well Biden judge you know pointed whatever they do that all time Biden Trump appointed Biden appointed sometimes it's consistent sometimes it isn't yeah it's probably more consistent on the left they're a little
Starting point is 00:12:18 more ideologs you know what I mean yes yes but it goes both ways but I was trying to you think about and the the shoot sorry they the would be a ass in is transitioning, right? By the way, everybody, every son would be a fool. Sorry, every father would be a fool not to tell their son. Listen, you ever go off to college, you get drunk and you tee-boned someone behind the wheel
Starting point is 00:12:49 and you kill that person. You're fucking transitioning that day because you're not going into a men's prison for six years. Not only that, you're going in front of the judge as a transgender woman. Right, right, much better. Right, right. So you literally begin the transition when you get your court appointed attorney.
Starting point is 00:13:07 You know what I mean? Like if I'm Mark Garguss, I would just tell every client of mine, you're transitioning. What would he say? Well, obviously, it's just going to happen now, more and more people, right? So now the female judge does not want this person transitioning in a male prison and then he pointed out Trump cut funding for the prison transitioning and is now sort of getting involved, is what I'm saying. So is that how she's using why he needs to be out of jail so he can complete his transition? She's basically factoring in transition a little fuck Trump because he took the money away and then not wanting this person to go to a male prison and blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:13:57 accomplished right so and so eight years for something that you know should pack 30 years and his stuff was pretty heinous in terms of his planning and things like that um also it's it's considered a i think a terrorist act because it's a political act but anyway all that being said now drew here's what i'm saying okay i have told you there is an issue with having women in charge of everything because she as a mother, you know, by the way, maybe she has a son that's this guy's age. You know what I mean? Her as a mother cannot stop getting emotionally involved with this procedure. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:14:40 She's fuck Trump. Is her son transition? I'm assuming everyone's son is transition. Her, I don't know. You can see if she has a son that's that age. I don't know. But the whole point, or a son. The whole point is, is first it's fuck you Trump, which is what we're living.
Starting point is 00:14:56 now. So if Trump said up is down, down it's up, you know, you'd go, fuck that guy. Yeah. You know, the sky is brown and the ground is blue. You'd go, go, fuck in. Yeah. So, so when you have, so you have, and here's what I'm going to say to you. Forget a judge. Let's just say you had a father umpire and a mother umpire. And the, son was pitching yeah who would be more likely to be less bias and could just call balls and strikes i think the son the dad the male of the partner you had to fuck that up but yes the dad yeah i think he'd have a higher likelihood of it now some dads would even call a tighter strike zone for the son like not wanting to give them any help at all or saying
Starting point is 00:15:56 you should have practiced harder or whatever it is. I don't think a woman would ever do that. I don't think a woman would ever do that. And that part of it may be good. Yeah. You know what I mean? But I also think she'd call a couple of strikes that were outside of the zone, right?
Starting point is 00:16:11 Possibly. Well, you just said the man would do it. So I don't think it's possible. No, no, no. She'd possibly call some things outside of the strike zone. Well, yeah, because you just said you'd think the guy would call a tighter game. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Yeah, okay. And I think most people would agree with that theory. Now, does, okay, does it make the mom bad? It's like, well, no, I mean, she loves her son. Makes her good person. And it makes her good person. Not a great empire. Well, it's not great to the guy who's batting.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Yeah. Because he's calling strikes outside the zone because they have great affection and love for the son. I would say not a good umpire. not a good umpire but does not mean wouldn't be a good mom correct okay so with that in mind isn't that what's happening here like there's too much well just the insanity the judges are not just umpires anymore right they have to they're factoring all this stuff in is we got a problem it's it's it's chick think and it's dude it's progressive dude think too but it is chick think and if you get enough of that in our society, then you're going to get some bad calls.
Starting point is 00:17:30 And there's going to be a problem. And I think that's kind of where we're at. At least that's what, to me, that's what California feels like. It just feels like that. It's like Karen Bass in the city council and how come no permits or nothing's getting rebuilt? Because of that, that's why. Yeah. They're just not.
Starting point is 00:17:50 And also, no interest. in it. That's the other thing, too. I was wanted to ask you about the Chinese buy-up of ocean-front property in Malibu. What are your thoughts on that? To me, it's like, of course. Of course they're going to do that. Uh-huh. Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean, I don't... You just look at yourself. Let's say you'd had that property for 30 years, and you had the ocean front, burned down because of their horrible management. And now the Coastal Commission,
Starting point is 00:18:21 the sewage system which is going to cost millions and millions of dollars to rebuild the place and the insurance is going to cover 40% let's say. Let's be generous. You're going to sell it. Yeah. And you're going to sell it the highest bidder. China? China. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Well, I mean, the other thing, too, is half those couples are in their 70s, you know what I mean? So they're not, they've got to rebuild any time in their lifetime. Yeah. Yeah, they'll sell it. I don't know. I've heard a lot of rumors, but I don't know all the... Tell us. No, no, I just mean I've heard about Chinese buying up those properties.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I don't know, but I can't tell you for certain if it's part of some sort of conspiracy. Or they're just kind of doing what you do, you know, what they do everywhere. Yeah. Just, you know, try to make a good investment. What a mess. Yeah. All right. It's funny.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I got somebody tweeted me from Gavin Newsom's office. where they put together a, it's so funny because if you drive as I do on a daily basis through the Palisades, you will see sporadic homes being rebuilt, very, but spread out, you know, few and far between blocks of scorched lots and then, and then that. You'll see that. But what they'll, what they'll, what, what they, what he did is they cut together a montage of homes being rebuilt, but it was just film this home. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:02 And then drive two blocks through scorched earth and then film the next one. So it has some illusion of all this progress being made. But the reality is, is it's sort of like saying, how much is in your safe? account, you go, $13, you go, okay, that doesn't sound like anything. And you go, yeah, but what if I do this? What if I just film every dollar? Bing, bing, bing, b, b, b, b, it'll feel like it's a lot. Oh, this is so ridiculous. Right. So they do a, they do a thing where they do this fast cut, go film everything that's being built, but don't show any vacant lots that aren't being built on and show it's going to look like a lot of progress. How did those get done even, given the environment?
Starting point is 00:20:48 By the way, when you have to cook your video, maybe you're not making as much progress as you should be making. What explains those sporadic? You know what I mean? There's got to be some weird explanation for even those. It is probably you cannot. I'm laughing because Karen Bass is such a dullard and has such a non-interest in this subject.
Starting point is 00:21:19 When she was sitting down, when she was with Trump, she goes, if you want to rebuild to the current size of your home, that's good. You can do that. But if you want to make your house more longer or taller, like she couldn't summon square footage, she didn't know the term square footage. You wonder why? Because she doesn't care. You don't give a fuck.
Starting point is 00:21:46 They're like, if you want to give your house more biggerer and more tallerer with stuff in there, then you could do, but then that's another. So basically, if you had five or six thousand square feet and it burnt down, you could rebuild to five or six thousand square feet. But if you had two thousand square feet, you go, all right, we're burnt down. I want to build back 4,000 square feet. Now that's a different story. I think those people are people that had permits and built the home within like five years. And now we're just literally just going, we're just going to put back exactly what was there. Same, same.
Starting point is 00:22:29 There you go. Boom, focus. Pooh, comes into focus. Yeah, I mean, because you had a plan check and approval and engineering, it's all done. Yeah. We're just like, it's like somebody. It hasn't expired yet. I get it.
Starting point is 00:22:41 some i think that's what that makes sense yeah because otherwise it's like what do these right but the thing about newsome and his crowd is i'm out basically covering the malibu and then i say there's nothing going up here in malibu and then they come back with a montage of not malibu right which is that they cooked to go see you're wrong and i'm like well it's how newsweek answer There's, you know, my articles on Adam and COVID, you know, it's like, you can't fucking cherry picks up. And by the way, you're not making, I said Malibu's not being rebuilt. Show me montage of stuff being built in Malibu. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:23:24 You can't. But you can go three miles away and find a montage and put together a montage of shit being built that's not in Malibu. Yeah. Okay. Beautiful. You've made your point, or are you lying in sort of cooking your books here? Which is weird, right? Well, not weird, but what are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:23:44 What else are going to do? I guess. All right, quick break, right back after this. Starting point is 00:26:19 And we have to really focus, I think. Well, we're going to have to go back to the farm. I mean, that's all we got. They got to go back to the farm. They've got to go to boot camp. Well, boot camp, maybe. They got to, you know, get up at 6 in the morning and till some soil. and it just there's a thing and I'm I'm telling you I see it with adults I see it with young people
Starting point is 00:26:45 I see it with everybody there's an engagement issue there's a lack of engagement in life you mean yeah I you cannot digitally you know you're not engaged with an avatar you need to be engaged with a hammer and crocheting needles in a monkey wrench. You know what I mean? Like you need to have stuff and do stuff. You need to do stuff. And it doesn't, like I said, it can be the ritual just washing your car every Saturday. It doesn't mean it's not, you know, it's sort of the grubhubization of the world.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Like I said, when I saw that Taco Bell coming to. my house on a Saturday morning. I was like, what the fuck is this? You know? And by the way, I don't have Grubhub. I don't want it. I, if I order a pizza, I go get the pizza. Like, I just go get it.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Well, why are you doing it? I don't know. It's part of what I do. It's like saying, I drive a stick shift. You know what I mean? Like, why? I don't know. First of all, what are you doing that's so fucking important that you can't be dragged away to go get a
Starting point is 00:28:03 pizza? You're just watching TV. Right. So I just, I mean, I'm not, I'm not better than people. What I am is I understand that there's inherent risk to things. And the, the, having folks drop off fast food is just not a good habit to get into. You're so annoying, Adam. I know.
Starting point is 00:28:26 It's annoying. And I don't, again, I get that. There's services for everything, but I would ask that, I would ask that you forego a lot of that stuff. You know what it is? I'll tell you what. Get a good fountain pen and start writing things out longhand. Why? Why?

And the opening sequence, the doctor, surgeon that the whole series is about, is giving a eulogy. And he goes, you know, today it's turn to the 20th century, and a child born today can expect to live to the age of 47.
Starting point is 00:29:19 All right. And the guy, I was talking to turned to me and went, and yet by 30, they would accomplish so much. Right. Most of the people that he wrote the Constitution and Descartes. And these people were like, and I thought to myself, Well, we built the Golden Gate Bridge in four and a half years. Like, we moved faster back then. But all we had probably in the era that we were discussing was like an oil lamp and that's it.
Starting point is 00:29:44 There's no TV, no radio. You just had to do stuff. You had to read. You had to write. You had to think about things. And that's what we did. Yep. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Tomorrow night, Rodney's New York City. Popping the hymen of Drumman over there doing a stand-up four minutes. Cat Tim's too. Live pod, too, as well.
