Starting point is 00:00:00 That's annoying. What? You're a muffler. You don't hear it? Oh, I don't even notice it. I usually drown it out with the radio. How's this? Oh, yeah, way better.
Starting point is 00:00:09 Save on insurance by switching to Bel Air Direct and use the money to fix your car. Bel Air Direct, insurance, simplified. Conditions apply. All right, I want to jump into this really unique beef between two pretty massive players in our political culture. Governor Gavin Newsom and Joe Rogan have been going back and forth for about a month now, maybe a bit longer. And I've been meeting to cover this, but I'm kind of glad I waited because it's all developed even more over this past week, mainly with Governor Newsom taking jabs at Joe Rogan, explaining that California is actually a beautiful state. California carries a lot of red states on its back, and Joe Rogan has taken a lot of jabs as well. But his were more done like a month ago.
Starting point is 00:00:51 He now refuses to even talk face to face with Gavin Newsom, which is where the problem lies. Joe Rogan is essentially running after running his mouth, and he's not willing to have this one-on-one conversation. So let's just run through where it all started and where it's all ended up, because Governor Newsom is, you know, directly saying Joe Rogan is too chicken to have me on his show. But let's go back to where it started. Joe Rogan said a few months back, this was in May. He said he refuses to have or to go on California Governor Gavin Newsom's new podcast. He said he would probably have me on, but I'm not interested. Have you been on Newsom's podcast yet?
Starting point is 00:01:29 I heard it's really good. He would probably have me on. I'm not interested. You know. I'd like to be asked. It's not like I'm opposed to talking to Democratic politicians. I'll talk to anybody. But that guy.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Yeah. No. I'm not interested. Yeah. You'll talk to anybody but that guy. I mean, you'll have on Trump right before the election and allow him to spread election for all lies. But something about Newsom is a step too far. apparently. Then, Governor Gavin Newsom's press account hops in and says,
Starting point is 00:02:03 Joe Rogan is a snack-sized podcaster who can't stop talking about me. Obsessed? Crush? No, thank you. But it's too scared to have me on and let his audience hear the truth. Just like Dozy Don, he often chickens out. I've never had any problems with the guy in which the mini hosts the best in life. I'll come on and will help save the show and it's plummeting the ratings Gavin Christopher Newsom. But then it continues to escalate. He talks directly about Joe Rogan, and he responds to Joe Rogan
Starting point is 00:02:33 and other criticizing Democrats on this podcast. Let me just point out, this beef is two-pronged. There's a few things, in my opinion, Governor Gavin Newsom is trying to achieve and that he's doing well. First of all, you actually want to get
Starting point is 00:02:46 on Joe Rogan's podcast. He should get on Joe Rogan's podcast because it's a massive platform and he can use that platform to give his side of the argument It would inevitably receive millions, tens of millions of views across the internet, right? Democrats need to be out there controlling the narrative, and that brings me on to point number two. If he can't get on Joe Rogan's podcast, which seems unlikely, then what you can do is drive attention based on the drama.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And that's what Governor Newsom is so good at, driving attention, then converting that attention to actual politics. For example, the Proposition 50 vote is happening very soon. People are voting on Prop 50 in California. By the way, if you're in Cali, please make sure to go vote yes on Prop 50. That allows California to push back against the Trump admin's election rigging. But either way, the reason why, in my opinion, Governor Newsom is starting this beef, it's not because he's actually sitting there seething at Joe Rogan. He's not sitting there like punching a Joe Rogan punching back.
Starting point is 00:03:45 He's drawing attention to his overall narrative. Let's watch this. I think there's a California derangement syndrome. And he's part of it. I mean, I think people are obsessed with focusing on what's wrong with the state and not what's right with the state. I mean, you have more scientists, engineers, more researchers, more Nobel laureates in the state than any other state in the nation. We're the fourth largest economy in the world, $4.1 trillion. We're the finest system of higher education that addresses the issue of equity, better than any other public education system in the world.
Starting point is 00:04:13 We dominate in every category. Name it. We're the biggest manufacturing state, biggest farming state, ranchers and hunting jobs, which is interesting. We dominate in AI and quantum and fusion in every key category, the quality of life here consistently. And you look at the top 10 cities in the United States, American consistently, the top five are identified in the state of California. And we invent the future. It happens here first, where America's coming in attraction. What I think doesn't attract people that tend to be on the spectrum of his politics is our diversity. We're the most diverse state in the world's most diverse.
Starting point is 00:04:51 democracy where a majority minority state, 27% of this state is foreign born. And that offends a lot of people. Very, very well said from Governor Gavin Newsom, he's really stepping up to the plate. And then Joe Rogan claims, if Newsom came on the podcast, he would likely just cook himself anyways. I mean, this is just pure cope, but this gives you another insight on how the beef progresses. Yeah, what is he coming on? He's talking some shit on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I know. It's like, you think that's going to work? like that's so stupid like okay to be fair Donald Trump talked a lot of shit about Joe Rogan on Twitter and it did work it worked he got on the show Joe Rogan ended up sucking up to him yeah what is he coming on he's talking some shit on Twitter I know it's a like you think that's gonna work like that's so stupid like this is such a bad look
Starting point is 00:05:40 it's such a bad choice there's a little desperation in it but it's just stupid it's like this is a bad strategy like I probably would have had him on yeah but now I'm like not what are you doing There is a fun version where you just do it and cook him, you know. He'll cook himself. I mean, that seems to be already happening. All you have to do is just ask them questions. Yeah, it's like, why are people leaving?
Starting point is 00:06:00 Why do you say this thing all the time where you rattle off all the good things about California? When everybody says something bad about California, it's like, number one in Fortune 500 companies, number one in higher education. It was all that shit before you were there. It was all that shit forever. It's because the weather's perfect, man. It has nothing to do with you. Really quickly. Have you ever asked yourself?
Starting point is 00:06:20 who's reading my email? Because with the current government's overreach, the NSA and FBI can legally monitor your messages and even buy your private data. It's true. Look it up. That's why I use proton mail to send and receive messages. They have end-to-end encryption, meaning nobody can read your emails but you. And they're based in Switzerland, outside of U.S. jurisdiction, meaning they're protected by actual privacy laws, like legitimate privacy laws. And it makes surveillance like Section 7. which allows the government to access any of your data without your knowledge. It makes that all completely powerless and just useless.
Starting point is 00:06:58 You now have your own privacy. If you're coming from Gmail, they have a tool that makes switching over basically just one or two clicks. It's the easiest way to protect yourself. So go to proton.me slash Adam. Click the top link in the description and sign up for a free account right now. Again, go to proton.combe slash Adam for a free account. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I mean, okay, there's a few directions I want to go here. So apparently, Governor Newsom listing off the good things about his state is not something that is effective. I mean, he's talking about this tweet where Governor Newsom says, Joe Rogan is too chicken to have me on his show and expose his listeners to the truth. So I'll put it here. California is the fourth largest economy in the world. Number one in manufacturing, number one in farming, number one in new business startups. number one for tech in VC investments, number one for Fortune 500 companies, number one in public higher education, not to mention it being the fourth largest economy in the world means a lot of states across the United States rely on California, not only its imports, but its broader economy.
Starting point is 00:08:01 The point that I'm trying to make here, and the point that Joe Rogan is missing, is that California is a behemoth of a state. It is its own country. It could be its own country. And when Republicans try to undermine it and call it a shithole that has been ruined by Democrats over the past few decades, all of the statistics show otherwise. So Joe Rogan then gets mad that Governor Newsom wants to, you know, the Governor Newsom wants to talk about the actual facts. Here's the incongruence. He'll have Trump on for three hours to spread lies about election fraud. But when Governor Newsom wants to come on and list off the facts, Joe Rogan acts like that's the craziest thing. ever heard. He's like, wait a minute. Newsom wants to come on and talk about a list of facts.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Governor Gavin Newsom then directly responds and says, balk, balk, like bach, at Joe Rogan. Then someone says, Rogan's saying he won't have Newsom on because he mocked him online when Trump did the exact same thing right before Rogan booked him. Trump literally said, like two months before the election, it would be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets booed the next time he enters the UFC ring. Trump, looking back at this, I think Trump, Trump was trying to instigate Rogan in the same way. Then Joe Rogan continues to talk about it. He's obviously thinking about it.
Starting point is 00:09:17 They don't have any faith in Gavin Newsom. Which is kind of funny because he wants to be president so bad. That's true what it looks like. You can't ruin a city and then go on to ruin a state and say, guys, that was just practice. Once I get it as a president, I'm going to fix it. I fix it all. I mean, it's so crazy, but he's such a great politician. I mean, he's so smooth.
Starting point is 00:09:38 I don't think so? No, no, I think he's terrible. How has he remained in power for so long? Because he has low competition. There's no one who's good is competing against him. There's no sincerity. I should say he's not a good point.
Starting point is 00:09:47 I should say he's smooth. I mean, he's a good bullshit artist. Yeah, that's what I mean. But it's like what the things that he says when he gets confronted with the highest this and the highest that, everybody's leaving. You have the highest unemployment.
Starting point is 00:10:00 You have the highest homelessness. Look what the name with Hollywood. I hate this. I just hate the sphere that we're in where Joe Rogan, who has this massive platform, calls out Governor Newsom for being too slick in exaggerating with hyperbole.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Every sentence Trump has said over the past 10 years is structured in such a way that he's like selling the American people. We've never seen anything at this size, at this scale. No one's ever seen anything like this. No one's actually ever done this before. Everything Trump says is hyperbolic
Starting point is 00:10:31 and is exaggeratory and is like a sales pitch. Newsom is trying to do his own version of politics. You know, like, just to be 100% real, two years ago, I actually thought Newsom was a bit too slick for me, too. I thought, you know, he's a good politician, I agree with him on a lot, but he just represents the elite of California with slick back hair. It wasn't anything personal. I was just, I didn't know if you'd be a good candidate. But he's won me over, because I see that he is a fighter.
Starting point is 00:10:58 He will fight for the American people, fight for the people of his state, and I happen to align with him on a lot of his core values of liberalism and equality and equity and democracy. But to continue, Joe Rogan is obviously coping here. Kind of reminds me of like a huffing, puffing, jealous kid who's like, yeah, there's just no competition. You know, if you were to get me on that stage, get me on that stage, and I'll show Newsom what it's actually like. Like, okay, buddy, here is Newsome continuing to explain how great California is. By the way, California has its problems. I just spent seven days in California for my Jubilee Surrounded shoots, and I loved it. It was such a nice area.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Of course, when you're in a populated place, like L.A., there's going to be more homeless people or a slightly more crime, which I saw over the seven days I was there. But that's just as a function of it being crowded. L.A. is overall, very, very beautiful. But this says, the reason Republicans attack California and why Joe Rogan is scared to have the governor on his show is this. California is showing a better path forward as possible. He says, $11.1.1.20 per hour minimum wage for fast food work. workers, $25 an hour minimum wage for health care workers, universal pre-K, free school meals for all, 600,000 new apprenticeship programs, sorry, apprenticeship programs, largest volunteer
Starting point is 00:12:16 service program in the country, universal health care, improved test scores across the state. Let's check out this. The point, though, which is what your critics would say, and obviously he's one of them, is that they feel like you haven't done that great a job in California, that housing affordability is a huge issue. highest gas prices we've got it's more expensive to live here than anywhere else and that's been the case and they they blame your policies for that okay we've gone from the six large economy since I got here to the four the to the fourth
Starting point is 00:12:45 large economy have huge problems with income inequality and we had we were number three and the number of Fortune 500 companies here we're now number one with 58 Fortune 500 companies we dominate in AI number one in factory jobs a number one in two-way trade direct foreign investment we're 4.1 trillion economy I'm not done the most significant housing reforms in U.S. history. We've just passed some of the most consequential housing reforms. You saw we had lower our unsheltered homeless rate. You just lifted off the grievances. I'm going to list off the particulars in response. We're finally seeing real progress on homelessness.
Starting point is 00:13:17 These are decades going. You saw Arnold Schwarzener. We had peak homelessness under Arnold in 2004. So you're absolutely right. Decades and decades, we have failed on the issue of housing affordability. It explains more things and more ways on more days. what's wrong with the state. The biggest problem in the state, right? I like how he threw in a little job at Arnold. Arnold Schwarzenegger has refused, I believe, to endorse the Proposition 50 vote that I referenced earlier, which you should vote yes on if you're in California.
Starting point is 00:13:45 So I like how to do some how to throw that in there. And we have made major progress on fundamental reforms, moving from a NIMBY mindset to a YIMBY mindset, housing accountability units. We're suing cities that are not producing enough housing. We're flooding the zones in terms of new zoning reforms. reforms, land use reforms, and we've empowered now local communities in a way that we haven't in the past. So those are legit critiques. Those are my own critiques of my own state. But again, my state of mind is let's dialogue with these things. He doesn't want to have those dialogues.
Starting point is 00:14:16 He wants to have a one-way conversation. And I totally understand it, and we've moved on. Okay. But you understand how... Okay, I'm going to leave it there.
