We have some breaking news.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegeseth, who was plucked straight off of Fox News by Donald Trump,
gave a speech early this morning summarizing Operation Midnight Hammer,
which is what they're calling the 14 bunker buster bombs, the two dozen Tomahawk missiles,
the military aircraft that flew over Iran and struck just last night.
This is Donald Trump pulling us closer to the brink of war as the Middle Eastern tensions rise.
Now, Pete Hegseth went on stage and was asked, were congressional leaders notified?
And this comes off the back of reports that claim top Democrats left in dark on Iran strike plans.
Again, it's a breakdown of coordination at the highest levels that follows the breakdown of coordination that happened over the past few weeks with Pete Hagset himself.
Just to start.
A Trump insider revealed that, quote, nobody is talking to Pete Hegseth as the Iran crisis spiraled.
Donald Trump doesn't trust Pete Heggseth.
Nobody there takes him seriously, which is an implicit acknowledgement that they appointed somebody,
they nominated somebody who is not qualified, who they just think can play cleanup on TV after the fact.
Again, nobody talked to him.
Tulsi Gabbard was also frozen out of the fold entirely.
So let's start off with this clip of Pete Heggseth being asked, when congressional leaders were notified.
Were they given any advance warning the attacks were coming?
And also, Mr. Secretary, when were congressional leaders notified how long before the attacks took place?
Sir, to your first question, you know, the risk has clearly been rising over the last few weeks in the region.
Based on that and not a particular awareness of this operation, we've made smart decisions to minimize the risk to U.S. forces in the region.
No, we get no advance warning.
No, sir.
They were notified after the planes were safely out.
We complied with the notification requirements of the War Powers Act.
After the attacks, they were notified.
They were immediately thereafter.
Notifying Congress after the bombs were dropped is not complying with the War Powers
Act, especially when you are only notifying specific Congress members.
This reads, top Democrats left in dark on Iran strikes.
have another Pete Heggseth clip to play, but I think it's really important to point out that
top Democrats on Capitol Hill say they weren't briefed in advance of the U.S. attack on Iran.
Democrats left Capitol Hill for the Juneteenth holiday recess without answers to what they said
were basic questions.
Now, the thing is, Republicans were briefed.
Representative Mike Johnson was briefed, but Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was given
what was described as a perfunctory notice shortly before Trump's announcement,
meaning after the strikes happened, he was notified, but their Republican counterparts were given advance notice.
So, Senator Mark Warner and Jim Hines, the top Democrats in the Senate and the House Intelligence panels weren't even briefed, but their Republican counterparts were.
A massive breakdown of communication.
It's just disgusting.
Before this next clip, I want to point out the obvious.
When Pete Higseth is saying that Democrats can't be noticed so the plans can't have.
happen safely, dude, you were the one that notified not only Jeffrey Goldberg, but your wife
and like your brother-in-law or whatever the hell in a signal group chat a few months back.
How does this dude not drown to death in his own irony?
The absolute raw irony of Pete Hagsas saying that, you know, you can't notify people,
you can't leak plans before they happened, you have to wait for the planes to be safely out.
This is gaslighting of the highest degree.
This is absolute gaslighting.
I mean, I'll play this clip in one second, but yeah, just to recap, just to recap, Pete Hexseth is notorious for leaking war plans in a signal group chat because he accidentally added an Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg.
It came out a month later.
He also had a group chat with his wife and his brother.
And in that group chat, he also leaked war plans about Houthi strikes before they happen.
So I don't want to hear anything from him.
Here, Pete Higsath is confronted about the intelligence.
Thanks. Thank you, Mr. Secretary. Concerning the justification for these strikes, in March, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released their threat assessment, concluding, quote, Iran is not building a nuclear weapon, and Khomeini has not authorized the nuclear programs he suspended in 2003, unquote. So what new intelligence does the U.S. have since then?
that the Iranians have changed their position on nuclear weapons.
And does this new intelligence come from U.S. sources and methods,
or are we getting this information from other countries?
Well, I would just simply say that the president's made it very clear.
He's looked at all of this, all of the intelligence, all the information,
and come to the conclusion that the Iranian nuclear program is a threat
and was willing to take this precision operation to neutralize that threat
in order to advance American national.
interests, reduce the Iranian nuclear program, and obviously collective self-defense of
ourselves and our allies. So he looked at all of it, understood the nature of the threat, and
took bold action I think the American people would expect in a commander-in-chief. That's all
we've got. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Now, here's the thing. Here's what I want to point
out. A new study done by the Institute for Science and International Security, which is an unbiased
institution showed that Iran began to enrich their uranium in 2011. It ramped up during Obama's
era, so Obama very intentionally cut a deal. Obama worked so hard to cut the JCPOA, which is a deal
that was implemented in January of 2016, signed in about 2015. What happened in 2018 is Trump
withdrew the U.S. from the deal. And what do you see? When I zoom out,
You see directly off the back of that, Iran begins to escalate.
And this red bar is the planned escalation over the next few months to years.
So if you're going to believe this, you know, nonpartisan institute called the Institute for Science and International Security that the Obama administration also used to, you know, justify their deal that they cut, then what you can rationally figure out is Trump doesn't know how to negotiate.
If this dude knew how to negotiate, he would either build off the top of Obama.
Obama's deal, not just, you know, shred Obama's deal, not touch it entirely.
It's absolutely disgusting.
Here is Pete Hegesat spending a significant portion of his opening, just praising Trump in a weird,
cult-like manner.
Full stop.
Thanks to President Trump's bold and visionary leadership and his commitment to peace through
strength, Iran's nuclear ambitions have been obliterated.
Many presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran's nuclear.
program and none could until President Trump.
You're wrong. Obama dealt the final blow to the nuclear program. Look at this chart.
Obama literally dealt the final blow through diplomacy, through wit. I have met President
Obama. We did the one hour off the record roundtable. Can't say what we talked about. But
during it, I realize that this dude knows how to facilitate a conversation. He knows how to use
diplomacy, he's not an idiot like Donald Trump. Look it. This is what Trump did. He gets into office.
He uproots the deal and then he causes this mess. He loves to be both the arsonist and the firefighter
at the same time, meaning he wants to set the fire and then also act like he's saving the day.
He's not saving the day. He did the same thing with tariffs. He started the fire, then act like
he saved the day when he made it worse. And we see that across every single sector. I'll leave it
there. If you appreciate the analysis that we do, make sure you drop a like. Make sure you
