All right, everybody, as we barrel into month two of this government shutdown, we have officially hit the deadline in which SNAP benefits are essentially lost for almost 42 million Americans. I do want to point out certain states have their own contingency plan, so if you rely on SNAP

Starting point is 00:00:46 benefits, look up what your state is doing. A lot of them are deploying their own funds. But the large problem, the large national debate right now, is that the government actually had a contingency plan in the case of a government shutdown exactly like this one. But the Trump admin refuses to deploy those contingency funds, and now they're saying that they can't. They're just running away from it, and it's disgusting. A lot of people have a theory that the Trump admin wanted to cut these types of programs anyways, like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program,

Starting point is 00:01:17 and they're just using this as an excuse to essentially shirk their responsibilities, if that makes sense. But while this is happening, Trump and his entire administration are like trolling the American people. I almost can't believe what I'm seeing here. Before we dig into SNAP benefits running dry, before we dig into Trump's Halloween-themed party that is totally out of touch, can I just, am I being gaslit here? Donald Trump, while the government was shutting down, while people are losing their SNAP benefits,

Starting point is 00:01:44 42 million low-income Americans, 16 million of which are children, sorry. While this is happening, Trump posts, I renovated the Lincoln bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an Art Deco Green Tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln era. I did it in black and white, polished statuary marble. Well, whatever. Caroline Levitt then jumps in.

Starting point is 00:02:07 This is like from the boys. This is like from a movie where there's a sycophantic press secretary who will just suck up to anything they say, but it's not a movie. Caroline Levitt says, When I first learned a toilet like that existed in the White House, I was horrified. President Trump is making the people's house more elegant and beautiful for generations of Americans to come. You were horrified by a toilet in the White House?

Starting point is 00:02:30 Are we serious here? This was 21 hours ago. This was October 31st. While the government is shut down, number one, and while SNAP benefits are about to run out. Ron Filipkowski points out, hey, we're in a serious government shutdown. But instead of negotiating or doing any work, Trump posted several pictures of his White House bathroom remodel today. And now he posted this. It was about the construction that he's doing on the Kennedy Center.

Starting point is 00:02:56 Who cares? He is currently headed to Palm Beach for another golf weekend. That's what I want to talk about as well. Not only is Great Gatsby Party, but also the golf weekend that Donald Trump is hosting. Here's how states are stepping in.

Starting point is 00:03:23 Just a quick, high-level overview. this is very important. Beginning Saturday, some 42 million low-income Americans, including 16 million children, lost access to benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. A federal judge temporarily ordered the Trump admin to continue SNAP funding. The Trump admin says they just aren't able to. They don't know if it's legal. They don't know by what mechanism they'll do it. These are all lies they have the ability to. They were supposed to. Legally, they were supposed to. Another judge in Boston said that this attempt to suspend funding is unlawful, but they didn't immediately order that the program be funded.

Starting point is 00:03:58 Now, what's going on is a bunch of states have their own funding mechanisms. So Arizona is dedicating $1.8 million for a temporary fund. California, Colorado, Connecticut, go check your state. This is all really important stuff. I don't want to cause some sort of panic and have people think that they're screwed when certain states are deploying emergency contingency funds. Starting point is 00:04:25 People pointed out the immediate, not only hypocrisy, but lunacy of this, Gavin Newsome says, Donald Trump hosted a great gaspy party, while SNAP benefits were about to disappear for 42 million Americans. That is a sentence that distills this entire situation. He does not give a damn about you. Kyle Griffin then points out, and this is today. Hours after SNAP, WIC, head start, and other critical benefits expires. for millions of Americans, tens of millions, actually.

Starting point is 00:04:57 Donald Trump is arriving at his golf club in Florida. We're not making this up. Trump is at his golf club in Florida right now. Brooklyn Dad Defiant points out, say what you will about President Biden, but there was never a government shutdown under him, and he actually cut child poverty in half via the child tax credit,

Starting point is 00:05:16 and drastically reduced child hunger as well. Under Trump, snap being cut, food lines galore, just like there were food lines the first time. And he's also golfing today. We'll get to that more. Hayden says, objectively, it's unfathomable to comprehend how angry the right would be if Biden had posted this during a government shutdown referring to the marble bathroom

It's unfathomable to comprehend how angry the right would be if Biden had posted a marble bathroom that he had remodeled just hours before 42 million. million people lost access to these benefits. Take a listen to this clip from CNN. About 42 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program called SNAP to feed their families. Do we eat or do we pay rent?

Starting point is 00:06:08 For every meal at a food bank provides, the SNAP program provides nine. My mother over for Thanksgiving and I don't even know how I'm going to do that. There's no way I can afford a turkey. I'm just totally screwed. Snap Benefits is literally the lifeline that feeds us at the end of the month. It's critical to our home, to our refrigerator, to our table. I'm very concerned. I don't know what I'm going to do. These are the real stories of real Americans, real people in the states that aren't D.C. where Trump is. Well, that's not a state, sorry.

Starting point is 00:06:41 The states that aren't like New York where Trump has lived or his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The point is Trump is out of touch going from coast to coast in his rich places now. He's in the territory of D.C., and he's out of touch with the people who are literally struggling. He's posting things about his ballroom. He's at these, uh, and like bathroom renovations. Josh Shapiro points out, today in Pennsylvania, we won in court to force the Trump admin to use available money to fund SNAP, signed a disaster declaration to move $5 million in funding directly to Pennsylvania food banks. That's the mechanism I've been talking about where some states are supplementing the contingency funds with their own funds,

Starting point is 00:07:20 launched a private sector fundraising effort to help food banks meet demand with $1 million already raised. Leader, could you specifically name a Republican who you've called in recent days and describe what that conversation was like? Well, Mike Johnson and I have had maybe two brief conversations over the last week or so, but they're not serious. At the end of the day, understand, until Donald Trump tells them what to do, Republicans in the House and the Senate are going to be unwilling to, find a bipartisan path forward because Republicans, this version of the Republican Party in the

Starting point is 00:07:57 Congress, they don't work for the American people, they work for Donald Trump. He says jump, they say how high. They've been nothing more than a reckless rubber stamp for Donald Trump's extreme agenda consistently hurting their own constituents, which is what they're doing right now as it relates to their refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. When we know the five states that will be impacted the most are West Virginia, Wyoming, Alaska, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Those are the five states. The next five states are also in Republican-controlled hands. They could care less, and that's a shame. Very, very well said from leader Jeffries right there.
