Hello and welcome to a special edition of the Ariel and Ade Boxing Show.
I'm Ariel Hawani, that's Ade Oladipo.
We are inside the Palladium right here in the heart of New York City, in the heart of Times
Square, the press conference for the big May 2nd card right
here in Times Square just wrapped up and usually we do this show from our New York City studio,
his London studio, but this time we thought, hey, the boxing has come to New York, let's
do it from the side of the press conference.
And so we are here and if you're wondering why we have an empty chair, well, we're leaving
this out for any of these special guests that are in attendance join us we are hearing that a certain golden boy is gonna join us
right off the top so stay tuned for that but for now it is so great to do the
show with you in person my friend you don't have to go across the pond I made this happen
you're right I was like well one second there's this as you say one of the
biggest most intriguing fight cards in America they're gonna do the presser
obviously the face of the zone's gotta be there.
And I was like, well, I need to be here with Ariel.
You've been saying this face of the zone thing for-
You know what, someone said it to me and I was like,
it's not true, but I'm gonna run with it.
I'm gonna run with it.
You've said it every time now.
Do I say it a lot?
Yeah.
Obviously I'm trying to just-
You have to let other people say it.
Can you say it?
Not say it, yeah, I've said it about you,
but when you say it, it hits a little differently.
The press conference did in fact just wrap up.
It was an interesting one, somewhat subdued.
I thought with the personalities involved that it would be perhaps a lot more electric.
Of course, the main event is Ryan Garcia versus Rolio Romero, co-main event or chief support
as you say overseas.
Devin Haney against Jose Ramirez and of course, Arnold Barbosa Jr. against Teofimo Lopez.
And so let us talk to the man who promotes a lot of those guys, the great Oscar de la
Hoya, golden boy himself.
Please welcome.
Welcome to our studio here, Oscar.
It's great to see you.
You're looking fantastic.
I feel great, man.
Yeah, I feel great.
It's really nice to be here in New York and I was going to, I wasn't going to get into
it a little bit more.
Yeah, yeah.
I had a speech written down, everything beautiful, but then these guys weren't really smacked on.
What did you make of that? It was somewhat subdued, right?
There's a lot of respect, but you know what? I actually like it because it's brewing. It's brewing. May 2nd is going to be a good one.
Ryan Garcia coming back, we need Ryan Garcia unboxing. We just do. a good one. I mean Ryan Garcia coming back. We need Ryan Garcia boxing
Amen, we just do that's it
And so I'm glad he's back you have three fighters on this card on this this very small
Three fight explosive card
Can I ask you about Ryan Garcia because when I watch him up there and I compare him to the guy in April of last
Year in Brooklyn, this is a completely different human being
He seems a lot more at peace like almost zen-like, if you will.
Can you describe the difference between him and almost a year ago?
Yeah, it's zen-like, exactly.
I think that Ryan Garcia had a lot to think about.
Not fighting, not training.
In between these fights, look, you reflect on your life.
You reflect on what you did in your past, and how can I get better,
how can I improve in certain areas.
He did a lot of work, and I'm happy for him.
I'm proud of him because it's not easy being a champion, not easy being a fighter at this
caliber carrying the sport of boxing on his back.
It's a lot of pressure.
So the fact that Ryan Garcia's back, he subdued
a bit, but I like that because man, once he comes out, once he comes out May 2nd, we're
going to see a beast.
Can I pick one little bone with this card? I want to see Garcia Haney too. I'm worried
that if something can happen, slip on the back. Why didn't we do Garcia Haney too on
May 2nd?
Well good question.
It's a good question but look, Devin Haney doesn't want to come back against Ryan Garcia
after he's knocked out.
It's not in the manual book of promoting fights or it's not enough in the fighters manual book you
know where where after you get knocked out you fight the same guy again but
you have to have an in-between fight to get your confidence back to to for Devin
to to make sure that he's okay you know because what if what if Ramirez pops him
with a shot and he wobbles and he gets knocked out. That can happen.
So I think that would be a disaster. It would be a disaster. I think that I think that Devon
wanted to test the waters against Ramirez thinking that Ramirez is not dangerous. But
guess what? He is dangerous. You know, they I think it was Dougie that kind of pointed
out the three superstars on the stage, right? Okay. He said Devin. He said Ryan
He said to female and I think that's fair. I look at Arnold Barbosa. Yeah, and I almost see an emerging superstar
Yeah, that's almost come through the shadows
Obviously was with top rank for a long time you guys took him and I've been lucky enough to finish his last two fights against
Jose Ramirez and Jack Cattrell you have a superstar there
Yeah, you have a superstar who I think could cause a bit of a problem to tellópez. You know that they have plans and then plans and then plans. I look
at Arnold Barboza and I'm like, you don't do a plan with Arnold Barboza in the room.
I feel like he's going to stop a lot of plans.
No, he's a fighter who is serious, a fighter who is taking care of business. You know,
when we started promoting him after Top Rank got him to a certain spot and couldn't get him that world title shot
We came back and said look we promised him. Hey, you're gonna fight this guy this guy that guy
You're gonna fight for a world title then we we we accomplished that in a short period of time
He's happy where he's at. He's his reflexes are on point. He's coming off a great win
Overseas taking that world title so his confidence levels are up
i think that
barbosa is the sleeper
on this card
i think barbosa can cause some damage i built i believe barbosa
can figure out
to feel female
uh... and and and and and and most likely pull out an upset. And it would be an upset because a lot of
people are picking Teofimo to win. So I think Barboza, yeah, he's the sleeper here. I think
Barboza is going to do some damage.
You've promoted so many big shows, right? I mean, you fought on so many big shows. I
mean, you are Mr. Golden Boy himself. When you hear Times Square, when you hear a ring
erected in Times Square
and then shutting down the biggest, I don't know, millions of people walking around, they're
going to shut that down on a Friday. What do you think when you hear that? Do you most
feel like that's impossible? Like when I heard it, I thought it was impossible.
I didn't think it was impossible because of Times Square being shut down for New Year's
Eve. So it's very possible to shut it down.
But a boxing event, how do we manage that?
How do we manage putting a ring in the middle of the street
in Times Square?
Obviously it takes a lot of influence,
it takes a lot of money.
And obviously Turkey El-Ashik is excellency,
made that happen with the city.
So thank you New York for making this happen.
Thank you Turkey El-Ashik. Thank you Turkey Lusik.
Thank you Salas Sports and Dr. Rakan.
But obviously the fighters are going to make this event
happen and talked about for many years to come.
When they step inside that ring and they fight
their heart off, okay off the fight fans
will will
will emerge the fights fans will come out and the masses
we're expecting half a million people
while watching
in times square to be incredible do you have any idea how this is all going to
work as far as ticket sales and things like that how how are they going to do
this it'll be it'll be uh... roped off for just a couple of hundred people
uh... but everything golden ticket yeah it's like a golden ticket and i'm i'm How are they going to do this? It will be roped off for just a couple of hundred people. Wow.
It's like a golden ticket.
Yeah, it's like a golden ticket.
I'm going to search for my golden ticket wherever I can.
Willy Wonka style.
Willy Wonka style, yeah.
Turkey Al-Ashik style.
The platinum ticket.
Can I ask you a question?
Because I do know you have to go.
The city is still buzzing over what transpired this past Saturday in Brooklyn just a few miles
from here with Tank Davis.
You've been in the sport for a very long time.
Can I ask your opinion on that controversy?
Should that have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a 10-8 record?
Should it have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a knockdown? Should it have been a knockdown? Should it have been a knockdown? Should with Tank Davis. You've been in the sport for a very long time.
Can I ask your opinion on that controversy?
Should that have been a knockdown?
Should it have been a 10-8 round?
Should he have been disqualified for the towel on his face?
What's your take on what transpired there?
Well, look, in any sport, you can take a timeout, right?
You can, in football, a timeout, basketball,
wait, oh my, I have something in my eye, timeout.
Not in boxing.
And there's three minutes for a reason.
There's a referee for a reason.
If you go by the rules and what the rules are in New York, then that should be a point
because he took a knee.
That should be an automatic point.
You go to your corner, you're taking time off and that should be an automatic point.
So I thought the decision
uh...
was okay I think the decision was a draw was okay
the fight was an even fight it was a great fight I think Lamont Roach did a terrific job
and look
Gervonta Davis is a great fighter
he is a great fighter but he met his match Lamont Roach
so if I go by what happened
by the book right and
the rules then Lamont Roach should have won because a point should have been
taken off of Jervonta Davis but who knows what the Commission's gonna do
yeah let's see Oscar you're the man glad no clap backs here we don't want that
smoke no no no you guys were cool no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no week of boxing action Thursday golden boy we've got MVP on Friday in Toronto I
will scooch over by the way what about Sergio Pettis former Bellator and UFC
fighter fighting in a boxing match in India on Friday right here on Dazon
look at that one just sandwiched in between that is Sergio Pettis right
there coming to you live from India a little something for everyone all week long right here on the zone
Okay, let's talk more. There's all okay. Wait. I keep turning around. Mr. Garcia back there. You just don't know what's gonna happen
I mean when you have Ryan Garcia and Tia FEMA Lopez and Devin Haney together
Anything could happen. We need to get Ryan Garcia. He's standing right there. Is that Ryan?
Mr. Garcia come over here. Say hello to your friends, Ariel and Ade.
Yeah, we might get him over.
Your promoter. What did you make of...
Let's get into the press conference a little bit.
What did you... and you have a little hair here.
See, only I would do this for you, Ade.
I look out for you, unlike those Jezebels over in...
Where?
Where were you? In Belfast over the weekend?
I saw them taking shots at you. I'm not going to stand for it.
In fact, I'm not going to stand for it and I did want to mention that I was scrolling through social media
I guess it was almost like a
Week ago now. Yeah, you know, I I'm a foxhole kind of guy. Yeah, I if you're on my team
I think a bullet for you. I walk in front of a train
Because we had the clip is the car and there I said I'm like wait a second guys it I said I said
is that is that I I was like is that my guy out a I said to call you a you a with ron
rio I said I said look and then he slagged me off and said he never heard of me and you
said nothing you didn't have my back you didn't say that's my boy I didn't say that's my partner
no that's right I'm sure not i did i did but i think
i've already put in my will when it's time for me to go six feet under a
you're gonna be the guy to put me in the ground you can let me down one last
hot i mean that's how i felt that moment it got out of the river that's how i
got out of the moment i was so sorry for yourself
i mean you were you're pretty much campaigning for the show to now be the
the ad in and flat are absolutely not. That's what you were campaigning for. He could not
have enough money in the world. Here's the knife by the way. Here's the knife. Yeah here
it is. Couldn't have enough money in the world. I do apologize but it was actually interesting
to sit down with Carl. Yeah I bet. He's actually not a bad guy. Nah he's a great guy. He's
a great puncher. And he's so desperate for the Jake Paul fight. So desperate for it.
Thank you for saying that. He tried to say it would give the money to charity
I looked at him like yeah, which one shut up. Yeah, which one? Yeah, whatever human fund is. Yeah. Anyway, all is forgiven
I think you're very much. Thank you very much. I just know where we say this was um, yeah, what about it?
What about you know what I was I thought Dougie did a good job. Yes, see me and you mean you've both been there
Yeah, we know it's not easy. I just thought the fighters were going to go for a bit more. Like, Tierfemale went and I was
thinking, okay, is Devon going to go at Ryan? Is Devon going to go at Tierfemale? I was
like, come on, guys.
They were right there.
They were right there. They were talking.
Why do you think that happened that way? Why do you think it transpired this way?
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know either.
I'm so confused.
Was it the venue? I'm not sure. I have to say, I say this time this time again I came a little late because I was doing my show uptown 25 minutes away
So I was a little bit late. I mean the presser started late
So I didn't really miss much but my takeaway was there's some 200 to 300 and standing outside
Please standing out right as my kids and so I'll say this is a turkey or anyone watching
They were rabid they were going crazy they thought that I can help them. Yeah, I'm like guys
I'm gonna make a call. I'm gonna try to help you out
It's cold outside
Cued up to just get a glimpse of their heroes their superstars
I mean this place could have been jamming it was already good
Don't run the atmosphere was good, but it could have been something because then they picked their favorites
Of course the fighters elevate their energy. Absolutely. They start to get it and and and the fans egg them on we've seen this happen
Yeah, I don't know why they don't do this. I don't understand. We had it for the first you bank Ben presser
Yeah, I think that's about two to three hundred in there could have been more
I think the notice given to fans wasn't quite enough
I feel like you've got to let them in all the time every single presser has to have fans
I think so but apart from this I think it's a great fight. There's Ryan right there. He appears to be in great spirit. Where is he? Where he's literally right there
I can't I go say should I go try should I go run and gun and try to bring him on Ryan trouble
Come on. Are you he saw you?
He saw I guess he doesn't doesn't like me he doesn't mess with you. Huh? What do you think?
Shall go and get him. Are you and Tiafimo good? Me and Tiafimo? No. No we're not. Why? Why? Why? Because I feel like I'm a grown man of like 43,
gonna be 44 soon and I sometimes look at him as a kid that I just can't, I just want to speak to
and just shake and just say what's wrong with you? I think you're an incredible fighter. I think
as we saw today
He's got a great energy, and I feel like he's much needed in the sport
But I do feel like you can cross the line of yes
I think he crosses the line and it just needs telling off sure and you know he twit
Tweeting said Addy on a depot. You know let's let's catch up. Let's meet up whether we had a couple of words there
Oh, did you I didn't know about this. We did how'd it go?
Positive I think so, but I just don't know of this. We did, yeah. How'd it go?
Positive?
I think so, but I just don't know of him.
Yeah.
I just don't know of him.
But I think he's a great fighter.
And I'm trying to separate the two.
I think Tio Fimo Lopez, the fighter, is incredible.
Probably the best fighter on stage, if I'm honest with you.
But sometimes I think he crosses the line in self-promotion that he doesn't need to
do.
Well, he has been in a mood all day.
I saw him in Barbosa earlier in the day.
You saw that.
That was quite good. In the hallway. I think that's theosa earlier in the day. You saw that in the hallway.
I think that's the fight that's going to have the most heat attached to it. And what I think
is interesting about it, first of all, it replaces the Bacolà fight that I know you're
very upset about, but I think it was the right thing to do after the knockout loss. It comes
out of nowhere. There were no rumors of this. In fact, when Barbosa beat Cattarall, I think
some people thought that Tio Fimo wouldn't take the fight.
I thought Tio Fimo was going to vacate. Move up to 147. Right. All of a sudden, look, he's,
I don't want to say he's been forced or pushed into it, but the money on the on the table has
been so great. He's like, okay, let's do it. Why not? He's a New York guy. Yeah, makes a lot of
sense. But what I like about it so much is here's Barbosa who has felt for the longest time, like he
didn't get his chance that he wasn't getting promoted properly remember going into that first fight under the
Golden Boy umbrella
He was like top rank didn't do the job for me. They didn't push me. They didn't give me the opportunities
Now here he is with Golden Boy and he's undefeated and raising great
I know that Shawn McComb fight was controversial but a wins a win and look he's he's done the job very clearly in the in the
Next two fights and so here he is looking at Lopez and saying like you're a guy that got the opportunities. You got the fight at MSG. You got the fight
with top rank. You know, he's taking shots at top rank as well. There's a lot of heat.
There's a lot of meat on that bone.
Yeah, what I didn't agree with with Barboza, you know, like because Barboza's done it the
hard way doesn't necessarily mean that Tiafimo hasn't. You still got to beat Vasily Lomachenko.
You've still got to beat Josh Taylor. Sure. You still got to somehow overcome the defeat of Josh Cambulsus and rebuild again.
So they've both done it the hard way. It's like Tiofimo, there wasn't a red carpet,
you know, rolled out to him because he's an Olympian. He wasn't an Olympian.
He's done it the hard way as well.
But there's probably a little jealousy there.
There is.
That he was getting those big...
Yeah, and I think cause Barbosa's chased Tio.
Right.
For the last three years. And I kind of get what Tio was saying. It's like,
well, dude, no disrespect. I'm chasing guys above me
I mean Tio's called out Jaron Ennis. He's called out Terrence Crawford
You're not looking, you know down if you like a Barboza
So now Barboza has been elevated because of a couple of good wins
Okay, you now I've got my attention
But I can understand why Tio's not looking at Barboza and let's be honest who was looking at Barboza
Prior to him signing up Golden Boy, not many. Yeah, you have the of 28, 29, I know, but no one really knew who he was.
All of a sudden, we know who he is now.
Now we have to give Golden Boy a lot of credit.
Yeah.
And also him for taking that fight in Manchester.
Crazy.
A lot of people probably don't take it and a lot of people probably don't think that
he gets a decision in Manchester.
As soon as it goes to the scorecards, I'm like, well done Barbosa, but this is Jack's
town.
It ain't going to happen.
It's a Jack's town, you're not getting it. And to be fair, everyone in Unison,
ringside was like, he deserves to win.
And you gotta give him credit.
I mean, to go to Saudi Arabia, beat Jose Ramirez,
someone he's looked up to for years,
all of a sudden you're almost fighting your,
not hero, but your icon, if you like.
And then all of a sudden you now go into
Jack Cattrall's backyard and beating him, incredible.
What about what I asked Oscar about?
And that's, you know this you've
been watching fight sports for a long time the best laid plans of Mice and Men always
go awry when you say okay these guys are gonna fight and then if they get by their opponents
they're gonna fight down the line it never goes according to plan. I don't understand
the role in the Diceing. I mean even this past weekend Tank never said the name of the
guy that he was planning on calling out I do have some thoughts on that we could get into it
But even afterwards he says nah now now I'm not gonna call him out
He had a plan it never goes according to plan
It always seems like when you put the cart before the horse when you try to lay it out two three fights
something goes awry and so
You know Garcia Haney Haney Garcia was so good
I kind of just wish, I disagree with him.
If I'm Haney and I want to prove that I'm the better guy, I go right back in there.
Why do you need the Ramirez fight?
Yeah, let's do it.
Let's get extensive drug testing.
Let's have a weight where if you come above your weight, the fight's off.
Devin Haney went into that with almost two hands tied behind his back the first fight
because of the weight class and obviously the Drug test I feel like right now is the best time to go straight in it and put all your rules and stipulations on the table
I think fighting Ramirez at one four seven is so risky for Devin Haley and to be fair right and find Broly for Ryan
That's risky as well, especially at welterweight. What are these guys doing? Who's taking the bigger risk in your opinion Devin?
You think so? I really do think so some people are saying Ramirez is kind of
done
Wait to see how Devin's recovered from that beating he took from Ryan. Yeah, and now you're moving up again
I think Devin's frame is a hundred hundred and ten percent a 140 guy him saying I can't make 140 for me
It's like wait, you've only made it once really and that was against Regis program
What do you mean? You can't make 140 is fine for 135 for about seven years, right?
So I look at Ramirez and that's a guy that's been at 140 for like a decade
He definitely can't make 140 and he's a big guy experienced boxer. I think devin's taking a big risk here
He's rolling the dice
I was thinking about this earlier who has more pressure on their shoulders coming off of that fight
In in april of 2024 in brooklyn is it Devin Haney who on the night lost, I know
you know in retrospect it doesn't get viewed as a loss but you know he got beat up that night
or is it Ryan Garcia who then pops afterwards but had a virtuoso performance against a guy that a
lot of people let's be honest thought he would lose against. My take on it is it's Haney because
the last time we saw him in action he did not look good he looked off he looked a step slow.
But did he not look good because he was fighting against a guy that was on PD?
This is always the argument.
You still have to get back on track you still have to remind everyone that you're that guy.
Yeah and he should have had a fight in between.
He should have had a fight six months later let's get in there against anybody just fight.
A Ramirez.
A Ramirez.
A Ramirez fight six months ago makes sense. So do you disagree? Do you think there's actually more pressure on Garza?
I think there's pressure on Ryan to look as good as he looked that night
I'm wanting to see the Ryan that I thought looked incredible
For several rounds against Devin Haney because if you don't see that Ryan people eyes because she was on PDs, right?
It's the kind of thing people are labeling that Connor Ben. But where's the punch power now Connor?
You know, let's see what you and we
haven't seen it so people are like okay the punch power was because of and I
feel like Ryan now was the speed and punch power because of substances. So I
feel like pressure could be on Ryan. Yeah I'm curious to see how he responds to it
all again. Do you like this version of Ryan? I think Ryan is top five biggest
superstars. You know he kind of got rattled a little bit.
I was like, oh yeah, more of that please. I don't like the nice Ryan. I like the chaos. I need a bit of both.
It's a nice bounce back. Last year was a little much. It was uncomfortable at times, right? The
stuff that he was saying all week, the behavior, showing up at the bottle, what was in it, who knows,
the aftermath. And then of course the social media stuff and the aftermath
Was extremely uncomfortable like it got worrisome. Yeah, so whatever is bringing him this piece. I like that
Yeah, of course. We want a little friction. I thought the friction would really be between him and Devin Haynes
I can't believe I can't believe they didn't say anything was nothing
It was not so much like those a gentleman's agreement as it went out on stage
Okay, we'll leave it alone this time because we've got opponents to face. I didn't understand it. I expected and
Again, I thought Dougie did a good job, but I would have stirred that pot
I mean come on Devon's right there Ryan's right now to stir that pot a little bit you got to what a weekend
This can shape up to be you've got this card on a Friday night in Times Square in May
Please weather gods hopefully no rain no nothing may in New York City could sometimes be a little dicey dicey
Then the following night in Riyadh canella returning
We're gonna have a press conference right here in New York on Thursday for that fight against William skull
He tries to become undisputed again
Hopefully leading up to the big match in in September against one Terrence Crawford
And there's some talk of a potential in a way fight in America on Sunday and and obviously look the week before is
Ben Ben Ben. Yes, so I mean for the next span of two weeks. It's incredible
You're talking you're talking stadium fights. You're talking fights here that I mean make no sense
So doesn't make sense to me. I still don't see how I saw like a drawing of it and it still didn't make sense to me
I was like, okay, they're gonna pull this off. Yes. Well, the one thing that Oscar said was like,
hey, you know, they close it down for Times Square.
The city does that.
Yeah.
This is a promoter essentially doing that, right?
It's a whole different ball game.
And the idea of roping off 200 fans,
I mean, like, but people just outside that rope
are gonna be there.
Like, they're gonna have to control this.
It's gonna be very interesting.
What are the ring walks gonna be like?
Are they gonna come?
I could see them coming in like through like a New York City taxi cab. You know what
I mean? And then they open it up like they come out of the plane in Riyadh with fury
news. Just a few months ago. I'm curious about all those little details. But you're right.
There could be a family from Norway walking out of the M&M store and being like, what's
going on over there? It's insane. Honestly, it's going to be elevated. That would be kind
of they've got to be. I feel like they've got to be elevated a little bit. Is the ring
going to have like a canopy thing on it? It has to have rain. What happens if it does
rain? Do they delay it? Is there a rain delay? What happens to the mat? You just you just
you double book the Barclays just in case. Everyone head over there. You can go to MSG.
MSG is a lot closer. MSG six minutes. Yeah. That is true. So we'll have a lot of time to talk about this. But this was a lot of fun and looking forward to the bar. You can go to MSG, MSG's a lot closer. MSG six months. Yeah, that is true.
So we'll have a lot of time to talk about this,
but this was a lot of fun and looking forward
to the press conference on Thursday here in New York.
It's fun when things are happening in New York.
By the way, speaking of press conferences,
we do have to talk about what transpired earlier today
in London, this was your kind of scene.
I was actually gonna be there.
In fact, I was asked by my great man, Chris Glamville,
who just got shot here, to go and present it.
I was like, I need to be in America.
I need to be there.
So I missed it.
Don't tell KSI and MAMS that.
Yeah, I think they know.
I think they're not too happy with me.
But I mean, what do I do?
I mean, it's difficult.
Do I go this or do I go there?
Well, ultimately you say it was an opportunity to do the show with me.
Exactly.
So I take so many different boxes.
Yes.
And so what did you make of this?
It was KSI versus Dylan Danis, March 29th over in Manchester once again, which has been
a huge success.
I hear a lot of people say that.
I mean, I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that
I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying that I'm not saying the show with me exactly so I take so many different boxes yes and so what did you make of this it was ksi versus dylan danis march 29th uh over in manchester once again which
has here we go here we go fight capital of the uk i mean do we have the sound because
the sound really uh accentuates the slap here listen to this if you can boom i just did
it for you it was loud it was loud as all heck and you were there back in Austin I
do believe and look at the melee afterwards where where Dan is through the the the cup
of coffee I think it was an ice coffee it was a nice coffee and he kind of
fruit it went over my jacket which I wasn't too happy about and so this was
the the get-back yeah this of course there has to be retribution and what's
happening over in the UK with these face-offs because last week it was the
eggs and then this I think
Inspiration from you banks slapping from what do we do here? It's pancake day. It kind of makes sense Did you know about that? Well got a big holiday pancakes huge international pancake? Yeah, it does nothing for me at all
Okay, more than American guys celebrate this some do some that's just a real deal
I'm not obsessed with American media in American nonsense
So I'm not obsessed with American media and American nonsense. What are pancakes an American thing?
I believe so.
I mean you guys seem to eat them for everything.
Breakfast, dinner, lunch, pancakes.
You guys call pancakes.
I feel like you have pancakes.
Not like...
No, just pancakes.
No, no, pancakes.
Slapjack?
No, just pancakes.
That's quite a good one.
So you think he really did that because it's international pancakes?
100%.
There wasn't some sort of deeper meaning no no no eggs
Oh, no, no no no I was trying to think like is a pancake a an insult in the UK
Okay, I mean yeah, I think you're overthinking. You're a short stack. I think you're overthinking
I think you just decided to slap him all of a sudden a fight that if I'm on his case
I don't look interested in yeah, I mean you spoken to me that look into now
He seems to be up for seems to be up for it's your level of interest out of ten. Yeah
Six and a half six and a half. Is that high?
I thought you would I think you're a company guy. I thought you'd say nine. Nah, you want to work the car
No, I will not be there but you just don't trouble anymore. I'm done. I'm done
But is it six and a half because of what happened today or were you just out of six and a half when this fight was
No, no, dude. It was a two. Okay. Wow, it was a two when it was announced
I was like just because Dylan Dennis doesn't turn up the things
I don't know where he's been my intrigue of Dylan Dennis kind of died after watching him fight Logan
Paul's like do you actually fight? Yeah, you know cuz he's at that kind of intrigue
It's mainly been associated with Conor McGregor, but I thought can this guy fight and I don't think he can box
But he can fight I will say this he can fight before he tries to come up double take double
They can grapple it can grapple, but can he box and can he fight?
Okay, he's only had two I think it was two MMA fights and I also felt like there was a period
When he used to tweet and it used to be like big news explosion. Yeah now it's kind of you know
He has a lie didn't he used to say things like if someone retweets this I'll give a thousand pounds
I'm like he's never given any money at all. He would delete it afterwards
He did say today that KSI and this was clearly a lie was feeding him the content in the in the buildup to the Logan fight the the content that has since gotten him sued.
He was asked, you know, how do we know you're going to turn up? How do we know response he has to show up because he's being sued
He needs the money and then he was trying to Dennis was trying to stir something between
Logan and KSI who of course were once enemies, but now business partner. Yeah friends saying they're not friends anymore
Who knows what's going on? He's good at it. Yeah, I will give him that he's good at it
But yeah, I think a six and a half if I'm working on it, maybe a nine. Okay
Well, that is easy ma'am's you want me to get to a six and a half. If I'm working on it, maybe a nine. Okay. Well, that is going down. Easy, ma'am.
You want me to get to a nine and just employ me?
Yes.
March 29th, right here on Dazon,
Dazon pay-per-view, the return of KSI.
I'm foaming at the mouth to get into this past weekend.
Oh, this is the big one.
Okay.
Now we've got the future stuff out of the way.
Let's get into the weekend.
Let's do this.
Let's get into Tank Davis versus Lamont Roach first.
Because what a day it was, really.
It was controversy at the beginning of the day in belfast
which is where you were and then we ended the day with controversy over at
barkley center in brooklyn and and that to me was the bigger once let's start
there
everyone thought
take was just gonna steamroll right through the mom roach i didn't think i
didn't i didn't you didn't i didn't well we're we're going to do that i said on
my video my youtube channel
and i said it was he said i'd said on my video my youtube channel. I said I said it receipts
I'm more than that go on my youtube channel. Everyone can I say it on our show at the Ola Depot YouTube?
Why did you say it on our show?
Did I not say I did maybe I think I did I said don't sleep on the moon roach
But I expected tank to win like every person did but I said don't sleep on the moon roach
He was coming up from 130, but let's be honest tank is a very small 135 er I think he weighed in at like one thirty three
point eight or something like that so the size was really not the factor it
was really that we think tank Davis is one of the best fighters in the world
and and I go back to how this fight started how the build-up started he never
seemed motivated never seemed switched on he never seemed like he was truly
invested in the matchup it just felt like a thing that he had to check off great
He's talking about the end of his career when that starts to happen it becomes alarming
He then reveals that he had another fight planned for this one and that he wanted to return quickly
What's that we get into it?
We are we giving him too many excuses you see what you're doing here
Yeah, you're giving him too many excuses and you're taking respect away. Not personally away. No, that's fair
That's a fair point almost giving him like oh you didn't really was it disinterested didn't want to be there one second
Maybe the guy right in front of him which is very good fair so you for that
I do think that okay, but you know why I say that because I was speaking to someone about this ever then I don't want
To play Monday morning quarterback. Yeah, that's a good one, but I do think we put so much
Respect on Gervonta Davis his name as in in you are the pound for pound face of boxing.
He's not fighting the top guys.
Do you know what I mean?
It's not like one week you beat Kishon Davis, then Vasily Lomachenko,
so obviously he's going to beat Lamon Roach.
He's not fighting the top dudes.
I haven't seen him fight a top guy for a long time.
When was the last top 135 pounder he fought?
Well, the Garcia fight was a big one, but he wasn't...
We know the issue with Ryan Garcia, putting a rehydration cap on it.
So as much as I think he's very very good, I can no longer think about it.
You need to show me it. And the only way I know it is by fighting the fellow top guys.
And so as you're seeing this unfold and I know what happened late over there in the UK, you're not surprised?
No no no. I'm saying all that, I expected him to knock him out.
You know why though? Because everyone seems to cause Gervonta a bit of problems, but then he just gets to you.
So I knew that Lamont was going to cause him a bit of problem, but then I expected Javonté to do what he's been doing for all of his career, which is knock you out eventually.
And it just didn't come.
It's a very close fight, and then we get to the ninth round. The ninth round that will be talked about for many many years to come and and what transpires is you know
The fight is going in I believe all three judges scored a 10-9 for Tank Davis. However, however
There's a there's a jab thrown a sort of like nondescript. Yeah non-powerful range find
Yes of anything, but then all of a sudden tank takes a knee and then all of a sudden
He appears to almost like tell referee Steve Willis, one of the
best in the game, one second, I need to go over there.
And then all of a sudden, his head trainer, Calvin Ford, takes out a towel and wipes his
face and Steve Willis says to him, like, that looked like a knockdown.
He begins to count and then he's like, no, no, no, I have something in my eye.
And then he stops counting, Steve Willis have something in my eye, and then he stops counting Steve Willis does and then the fight
Just resumes and so in the end
No point deduction. It's not scored a knockdown and in the end it ends up being a majority draw
But if that was a knockdown it ends up being a split decision win for Lamont Roach and a life-changing win
Oh, by the way, there's replay in New York
but since then the New York State Athletic Commission has says there was a malfunction of sorts. Oh there happens to be a
malfunction just that round nine. So they couldn't review it and see if his knee in fact did touch
the ground by the looks of the broadcast it looked like it touched the ground something is
awry and these are the things that make people look at boxing a little bit sideways. You know
you know the moments. You know what Gervonta said sort of post-fight, something in his eye.
The grease.
I actually believe that story.
That doesn't take away from the fact it was a 10-8 round.
I believe that something got in his eye.
I saw the jab and it was barely nothing.
I do believe that somehow grease got in his eye, but the idea of him creating his own
rules and saying, you know, I can stop, something's got my eye, I just want to quickly wipe it.
And Steve Willis, who's one of the most experienced
referees that we've got in the game right now deciding to choke in his
biggest moment is embarrassing this is all this is nothing to do with
Gervonta by the way this is all so so no this is all Steve Willis no because
Gervonta is okay count then and you think he wants you think you would have
been happy with that a guy doesn't matter it doesn't matter even if he's not happy what what's he gonna do in that moment the ring?
I love tank Davis, but in that moment he thought that he could dictate the rules
Yeah, and then and then Steve Willis has got a so no no in this squared circle. I am the boss and the leader
This is how it goes once you start counting. I
think Steve Willis is almost
Almost fearful of counting counting because it's
Javon Davis. If that is in fact the case and you know what I'd love to know but
the problem with this sport the problem with all combat sports is the referees
the judges there's no accountability whatsoever and and you guys were talking
about it after the Patti Donovan fight shout out to Tony Bellew he was the one
really banging that drum saying why do the promoters after the fight have to answer questions? Why does Eddie
Hearn have to answer for what happened there when he had nothing to do with it other than
put on the fight? Why do the trainers have to answer questions? Why does Andy Lee have
to answer questions? Why do the fighters have to answer questions? And yet it's the judges
of the referees who are usually the source of the most controversy, they get off.
But that's all sports.
No, that's not all sports.
That is the majority of sports.
In the NFL, in the NBA, yes, I cannot walk up to a referee afterwards and say, tell me
why you made that call.
However, there's something called a pool reporter.
And how it goes in those sports here in America is that one media member gets assigned the
opportunity to sit down with the official and get some sort of explanation as to why
they made those calls.
And so they'll come out with a sort of transcript of the last two minutes or of the controversial
moment and we get something, something. They're not holding a press conference, but at least
it's some kind of answer, some kind of thinking as to why.
Can we play Steve Willis for a second? What do you think Steve would have said if said
reporter had a chance? What's his reasoning to carry on?
I just need something to chew on.
So if he says, hey, from my vantage point, his need didn't actually touch the ground.
I would say Steve, you're lying because you started counting.
And that's my issue.
But this needs to happen.
This needs to happen.
And then, okay, by the way, why didn't you DQ him when you walked over to the corner
tanked it and got his face wiped off? That's a DQ. By the way, why didn you DQ him when you walked over to the corner tank did and got his face wiped off? Yeah, that's a DQ
Yeah, we know the way. Why didn't you consult with the we know the answer to all of these he choked
and look I'm with you you can't choke in that moment because you've
Ruined Lamon Roach and I think the worst thing for Steve is that if we did all this
If he did that sorry and then Givante knocks him out the next round
Probably won't be talking about it, right?
But the fact it was a draw and that that 10-8 then means the one road to the one is what's ruined it for Steve
He needs to be suspended
Ultimately needs to be reprimanded needs to be suspended something there needs to be some outcome to his mistake
Before we get to that point and perhaps that is the most just outcome
Historically when you appeal these types of decisions
Nothing happens. Nothing happens because the Commission doesn't want to go against the judges doesn't want to go
against their own officials. However, there is so much there in favor of a Lamont Roach
overturning of this and actually getting the win.
You know what I didn't like about Lamont Roach, sorry to cut across you. And Lamont is not
that guy. I think we've seen so many interviews where he's softly spoken. He's a nice quiet
guy. There should have been outrage. There
should have been outrage. If he had, I'm not just saying this because I work with
Mattrum, if he had Eddie Hearn as his promoter, Eddie Hearn's grabbing the mic
from everyone doing the interviews and is losing the plot. I think Lamont just kind of
accepted it. It's weird and in the post fights and afterwards now on Twitter he says
stuff. I'm like in that moment where he's you've got a mic you need
to go mad and say this is a disgrace. In his defense maybe he just doesn't understand it's all
happening so fast it was all so fresh so much adrenaline. But he knows a knockdown when he sees one
even he's like oh that's a knockdown yeah even he's got or his corner got a start screaming
oh that's a knockdown what you doing Steve what you doing it's a knockdown. Corner getting up on
the apron I mean there were so many things that went wrong and New York has still really not accounted for the fact.
Why was there a malfunction with your replay monitors?
And by the way, there's a PVC broadcast.
You can easily walk over to their monitor and see.
You know what I mean?
That's the worst thing.
That's the worst excuse I've ever heard in my life.
There's about 20.
Yeah.
We've been privy enough to be ringside and see.
There's about 20 monitors.
Yeah. It doesn't have to be that specific one
We all saw the replay of it. He decided to put one knee on the ground. It's a knockdown. It's a ten eight
It's that simple. It's actually this awful. It's an awful look and the worst part about it all
Yes, he was robbed of a potential win over one of the best fighters of all time and taking away that Oh
He's robbed of millions of dollars. Yeah, he gets that win if they do the rematch
He now could command so much more win if they do the rematch he
now could command so much more even if they do the rematch now he doesn't he doesn't have the
ability to command the same and not only that he's lost his moment yeah i mean what do you respect
he's more popular now we're talking about but thanks going to be fair to knock him out next
fight you think so absolutely it won't be 16 to 1 now what it won't be 16 to 1 but you still favor
tank sure that was he that was Lamon Roach's moment.
That was his Buster Douglas moment.
Steve Willis has lost for him.
Only Steve Willis.
And so you say that you believe it was Greece.
I do believe it.
You don't believe it was the punch or any type of danger that he was in.
What's crazy about it is it was almost a year to the day, I believe, like 364 days.
You could just say a year.
You don't have to go 364.
It was a year to the day when Amanda Serrano had the same problem in Puerto Rico last
year however the difference was she never actually made the walk and and tank Davis's
Supposed hair stylist has come out and said I did the hair on Wednesday. He cut weight. He made weight
He worked out. He did media why all of a sudden in the ninth round did it bother him?
Yeah, but it was it was barely a graze the jab. I again I I think Steve's got this wrong
But I do believe what Givante said. I don't know the sink about you want to I believe what he said
I think something got in his eye and he's you know
I'm not getting hit while something's in my eye and he just he just makes up the rules as he goes along
The great irony is his team put a rematch clause in the contract
For the off chance that he would win, excuse me, would lose.
Now it's a draw.
Now there's all this controversy.
Now everyone wants to see Lamont get his payback and it sounds like obviously Lamont is in
but Tank has said yes but it's not so definitive.
He seems as though, Tank's obviously, he seems to get drawn into social media beefs and I think he's
seen the back and forth with fans on social media and I think that's annoyed him so I think tank
will do the rematch it's a stain on his legacy if he doesn't rematch Lamont Roach right? Well it
depends who he fights next no no I think it should be next no no but if he you say that okay if he
announces Shakur Stevenson next that ain't happening no but he say he, okay, if he announces Shukur Stevenson next. That ain't happening. No, but you say he does. Yeah, sure.
If he announces, okay, you know, Kishan Loma.
If you, this is the thing.
If he announces those three, LeMond who?
There is LeMond who?
Aw man, LeMond deserves it.
You're trying to say if he announces Kishon Davis,
we're gonna say, oh, you're gonna be sent for LeMond?
Listen, I would love to see that,
but that has to happen next.
It has to happen next.
There needs to be some proper resolution to that.
Okay, so if Turkey can do Shakur Stevenson
We should wait for Shakur. Do you want a after Lamont Roche? Do you want a well?
Here's the thing he was asked about Shakur in the aftermath in the post by press conference
Was that the guy that you were going to call? I think that moment on Saturday. Yeah could get us to Shakur fight
Because now his backs against the wall against the wall more than it's ever been if someone comes up to you on the street
Right now it says who do you want to see Tank Davis
fight next?
Who's next?
Shakur Stevenson.
That's Lamont Roach.
What?
He got screwed.
So?
You're just going to sweep him under the rug.
No he can fight the winner.
Ah see this is what's wrong.
Why?
Because he's not a big star.
I want to see number one.
I want to see number one versus number two.
But things happen.
I've been waiting four years.
Four years and you expect me all of a sudden because Lamont Roach has come across that. No.
Yes he has. What are you talking about? That's all fair.
Lamont on this end. Camera, camera, put a pan on me please.
Nah.
I'm sorry Lamont. This isn't against you. I love you.
This is bad.
And you deserve your opportunity.
This is a black eye on the court.
But Gers Stevenson has been waiting for four years.
Nah. Lamont Roach had his moment robbed from him. He had millions of dollars robbed from him.
And in the immediate aftermath of the fight right before they
Announce the scorecards bad what a tank say to him. You're not gonna get you ain't gonna win
I'm gonna get this you want this. Okay, so what you want to see you want to see Lamont versus?
Javante one thousand Shakur versus Javante right now. Yeah. Yes hundred percent one thousand percent
See I'm for the everyman
I'm for the everyman and I want good guy Lamont Roach to get his due and I
say don't do it in Brooklyn because clearly as you can say overseas, New York had a mayor,
New York had a mayor on Saturday. You got to do it in the DMV. This fight should have
always been in either Washington DC or Baltimore. They're both from that area. Bring it over
there.
Oh, the atmosphere in that arena.
Do it, do it. You know what? Do it at like where the like where the where the where the commanders play FedEx do it outside in the summer
It's now that isn't it's now big like that now. It's like a turf war now
It's that was a big deal this guy got screwed
You know it is for me you know it is it's very similar to what you said about
Waiting for Ryan and Devon, but we keep we continue to keep on rolling the dice
We've been rolling the dice about Shakur and
continue to keep on rolling the dice. We've been rolling the dice about Shakur and Gervonta for too long and I feel like something's gonna happen. It could be
Shakur's hands, it could be Gervonta losing, it could be Gervonta walking away from
the sport. If it's right in front of you and somehow Turkey can get that one
across the line. Well he ain't working with Tank Davis. It doesn't seem like that's happening.
We didn't think Canelo was gonna work with Turkey and all of a sudden.
Tank seems very, he's making it personal. Yeah. Canelo didn't quite do
that to the same degree. He did say in the post-fire press conference, I had someone
that I was going to call out and then someone asked him, someone asked him Shakur and he
said, no, someone who came into my locker room, but all the sluice don't know who came
into his locker room. Some people do. There's only one name that people are bringing up.
Don't you dare. There's only one. I don't have time for this. There's only one name
that people are bringing up. I don't have time for this. And you know who it is. I do
know who it is. I'm having Jake Paul. El Gallo. El Gallo de Dorado. El Gallo. Is this? You
know, you know, I will say, you know, I will say, yeah, if I'm Jake Paul and... Jake Paul cruiserweight? Yeah, against a Javonte 150.
Okay, yeah, sure.
150, eatin' a bit.
If I'm Jake Paul and the Jake Paul Canelo fight
was taken from me like that,
the only way to go bigger is Javonte Jake Paul.
Is Tank Jake Paul bigger than Canelo Jake Paul?
No, is it bigger than Canelo Crawford
is the thing I'm gettin' at here. Is it bigger? Could it one up Canelo Crawford is the thing I'm getting at here. Okay, is it bigger?
Could it one up? Yeah, Canelo Crawford Jake Paul versus Javante. How would that even work though? No
Jake when terms of weight. Yeah, Jake Paul would have to make
one
That have to agree on like a 180 catch weight and Javante can you can be under 180 sure
I mean we saw it with Logan and Floyd and by the way before this I you don't have any computer I know they're they're probably mad but he said it
go back to the press conference he said the guy came in my locker room but I'm not going to do it
now which is probably the best thing to do in that moment but it seemed like if you kind of connect
all the dots and oh by the way on Saturday morning Jake's all of a sudden what the commission showed up boxing over here is crazy in America and
Commissions seem to do whatever they want to do with a commission allow a 200 pounder fight a 135
It would have to be like it what was Logan Floyd yeah, no, it was a huge difference
There's a big difference that was that was an exhibition Oh exhibition. So that's what it would have crazy
I can't believe we've been talking about this but but is it not that's the one that seems like what I was
I agree. Jake was there and Nikita was there Amanda Serrano was there Jake doesn't just show up to these fights
Yeah tweeting about him saying I could beat him up earlier in the day. So that and and there is I
Hate to say it. Well, if you go back to
last week's program, I did say there's only two guys at boxing who don't seem to be aligned
with Turkey. Yeah. It's Jacob Tank. And that's why it's possible that they say to each other,
let's do our thing. And let's not forget, Tank dislikes Crawford a lot. Yeah. So it's
almost like, okay, let's go straight at them. And Jacob is he dislikes Canelo. So it's like, okay, let's ask, tag team up.
Again, you like your better tag team,
let's tag team up against those.
What is the bigger, if this was, if it was made tomorrow,
Yeah. Yeah.
Canelo Crawford, Javante Jake Paul,
which one does the bigger number?
I don't know, man. I don't know.
I mean, Jake is playing with a different set of cards
because he, you know, like I say,
I always say my kids know who Jake Paul is
They don't know who I think I think you do know then I think you just don't want to say I think you do know
I have no problem saying it. I mean, it's probably Jake Jake
Yeah, that's bigger now now the hard cores will get mad about this. I'm a hardcore. I'm just giving you facts
I'm a hard we're talking about
this country and it's fascination with influencers and
I mean your country as well. But you know, it's just, I just don't know how it all works
out. And by the way, maybe it doesn't happen now. Maybe it's again, as we were talking
about earlier with Garcia, maybe that was the plan. And now all of a sudden tank says,
you know what guys, thank you. That was a fun idea, but I need to go settle the score
with this guy. I need to get back on track
I do wonder as well and this could be the good sort of shining light here for tank
Considering everything you said about he wanted to walk away from the sport the disinterest
I almost feel like he's lost a bit with Leonard LB and Floyd not being there
I was they do the heavy lifting when it comes to talking
I do wonder this now puts him back on that path of okay. Let's do this. Let me turn him
Let me turn back to that guy. It's a good point because he's not been that guy for a couple of years
I'd say this extends things for me. Yeah, as someone said, are you still planning on retiring?
He's like, nah, probably not and let's be honest. I didn't really believe him, right? He's so young. He's like in his early 30s
Yeah, but he's got hundreds of millions in the bank
I know but every boxer says they're gonna retire Floyd said he was gonna retire and he still turned up the fight. Still fighting now. John Gotti the third. Still wants to fight now. Yeah. Yeah.
So I didn't necessarily believe him but I do think it gives him a little extra motivation. Oh you guys
think I'm done. Oh you guys think that I was going to lose to this guy Lamont Roach? Come on now.
That wasn't gonna happen. So let's see. New York is weighing in on it. We'll see if they
right the wrong. I think they should. New York right the wrong? Yeah, write the wrong. You don't think it happens?
Listen. What New York? You said the tapes stop working
around nine. Reputations are at stake here.
New York State Athletic Commission are not writing no wrong here. Let's be very frank
about this. That would be disappointing.
The only person that's going to be able to write the wrong here is Yvontae Davis and
Al Hayman. They're the only ones that are going to be able to say, let's do it again.
Let's do it again. No one else has the power to do anything here because tank was I'm not finding New York by it doesn't fight
you that much yeah okay I'm gonna go Baltimore I'm gonna go wherever I'm
gonna go I'll take this Givante tank circus to somewhere else and you guys
won't have any money because I fill up the Barclays so if you guys do I tell
you or we don't find the Barclays and let's be honest no fights happen in New
York anyway so New York is gonna do absolutely everything in their power to make sure that tank stays and fights here
So it basically means do what tank does second biggest gate in New York
History, I hate that I hate that you know I hate that you hate that gate thing why why it just means you're charging extra
Money 100% charge extra money and good fans can't get in but by the way tank Davis commands that that's how big of a star
He is and he's not even from here so tanks original's original fan that may be paying small shillings to watch him. Listen
I'm not backing it. You seem to be backing it. No I'm just saying. Every time you keep referencing
the gate you keep doing this. Yeah why don't you guys reference the gate? Because we don't do it
because it means that we are boxing, let's be honest, is a sport for you know the lower class
or the middle class. Definitely not the upper class. It's never been that. So I think once you
start referencing the gate you're almost trying to show it's now a sport for the middle class. Definitely not the upper class. It's never been that. So I think once you start referencing the gate, you're almost trying to show it's now
a sport for the upper class. And you can charge a thousand pounds where you want to get your
average Joe in. That 50 quid ticket, 50 pound ticket. Where the Barclays seem to be charging
a thousand dollar tickets. It's a disgrace.
You have to see every time holds a parade.
It's a disgrace. Parade, yeah. I saw Steven Espinoza tweet it. I'm like, oh, Espinoza's
come out of his little hole, hasn't he? Oh, look at the gate. Look at the it. I'm like, oh Espinoza's come out of these little holes, isn't he? Oh look at the gate
Look at the gate. I'm like, well he works he works for PBC
Okay, so that was the ninth round the ninth round had some controversy attached to it
Let's talk about the eighth round over in Belfast. What a fight. What a fight. What a fight. Patty Donovan, Lewis Crocker
What an atmosphere. Oh my god. That was the thing, man. My word. Again, those crowds in the UK,
those crowds in Ireland, those crowds in England.
I mean, and then you have like a turf war, right?
You have Limerick versus Belfast.
You've got a story there.
You've got a history there.
And these two guys delivered.
And again, I hate to say it,
refereeing comes into play.
I thought, not to compare Steve Willis
and put them, whoever kind of messed up higher, but I don't think I thought not to compare Steve Willis and put them river kind of messed up higher
But I don't think this was as bad as Steve Willis. I think no. No, I don't really I don't I really don't know
I don't know. I got Marks McDonald had a
Great Tony Bellew. He had an absolute maybe a monster called him Howard Foster
I think one job. Um, I think fourth round right here
See that see the point deductions for the headbutts.
And what is that? First of all, he's like shrugging his shoulders like what me worry
and he's saying hey don't lead with the head. They were both leading with the head.
You can see on here clearly, Patty Donovan is leading more. He's coming in. He's coming
in more.
Alright.
I don't mind the point deduction for Patty here. And there was an elbow which I thought
was really naughty as well from Patty. I do mind however.
There's the elbow. There you see. And that's a big one. That was a big one. That's a big elbow. But the was really naughty as well from Paddy. I do mind, however. There's the elbow.
There you see.
And that's a big one.
That was a big one.
That's a big elbow.
But the headbutts I didn't agree with.
Okay.
Here's the eighth round.
Here's the moment in question.
They're going toe to toe.
They're slugging away.
Again, this is the second point deduction, right?
And this is after another headbutt.
And this is the final moments of that eighth round.
This back and forth.
This was amazing.
But look how far the referee Marcus McDonnell is. He look how far the referee Marcus McDonald is he's not even in the
frame there he's not even the frame if you hear the audio it's very clearly
after the bell so Marcus McDonald not being in range to stop it yes the reason
Patty Donovan says okay let's keep fighting after the bill wait no when
there was actually giving me permission to keep when there's action like that a
referee has to be almost in the middle of the action he almost has to be willing to get hit. Okay. Okay, so we blame him for that
I agree with you. I'm blaming him for not being there
Yes
Are we blaming him for disqualifying Patty Donovan for knocking out his opponent for punching after the bell?
Well, the big question is and I believe Eddie Hearns said this in the aftermath on the great program
small talk hosted by Charlie Parsons and
saying it was great on the weekend because I was in attendance.
Absolutely, you and Tony did a great job,
but I think it was on that show,
or it might have been on a different platform.
Eddie said, was he disqualified
because of the sum of all the fouls,
or was he disqualified because of that one foul,
that one egregious moment?
Again, we don't know,
because Marcus hasn't said a thing.
I think he was disqualified for that one moment
It was that one moment. I actually would feel better about it
If he says some of all possible headbutts thrown out an elbow and now you hit him after the bell that's three strikes
And you're out so we feel better about it
Tony on that show actually said what maybe should have happened and he was like what should have happened is Lewis Crocker's given
As much time as possible. I think the max is five minutes, but sometimes referees go over, who's counting.
You take another point from Patty Donovan, and then the fight continues.
But would he have recovered in that five minutes to continue?
He was on oxygen in the corner, so I don't think he would have.
But I think that's what you do.
Was that a bit performative there with the oxygen?
I mean, it didn't even seem like he wanted the oxygen, if I'm being honest.
I like Lewis Croc. It didn't seem like he wanted to be in the ring
Oh really? I felt like yeah, no no no from the jump. Okay. I started to get really got it
I think once you know, you know as a boxer the guys just maybe little levels above and I thought he star was all wrong
It's not the Lewis crocker that I've been watching for years
He seemed to be almost fearful what was coming back from the very first round
It was very reminiscent of AJ Dubois actually, where you're a bit surprised,
why is AJ letting Dubois bully him like that?
Come on, AJ.
It was a bit like that.
So I think he got it all wrong,
and I think he just decided,
this ain't working, let's get out of here.
Interesting.
So he was looking for a way out.
I think he was trying to,
I saw Billy Nelson a couple of times stand on the ropes
and say, ref, another point or maybe more.
And I just felt like um it just wasn't
going his way and let's live for another day look he tried to swing to the end I think
we saw that in that little clip there but I just felt like there was only one winner in that fight
like Patti Donovan was on his way to a career best performance and the right to fight Jaron
Ennis or Stani Onis and he looks like a star he's got the look and got everything
going great trainer Andy Lee the man yeah here's the thing that was a an IBF
final eliminator IBF has the power to say no we need to run this back right
and I think Billy Nelson and and and Lewis Crocker are hoping it sounds to me
like they're like nah screw that Billy Nelson's come out and I think you've
done something for ring magazine so no no we're moving on moving on We're moving on. We got a world title shot. I don't
like that. I hate it. I don't like that. Sort of to the same you know to the same point
that I was making with Tank we need to right the wrong. Yeah. And they were losing that
fight. Yeah. Right? They were losing that fight. Now it was very clearly after the bell
but I really do believe that in those moments the referee has to get in there because is
as he's swinging away as they're in the pocket there and I will say this it's emotional the crowd is going crazy
could he even hear no he could I'm trying to give him an excuse you could
probably yeah I think so and Tony said it and Tony's the fighter of us right
yeah he said it once you're swinging away like that you will keep on swinging
till referee jumps in right sometimes you're not even conscious of a bell
going so maybe you've got a point but it was after the bell should have been disqualified maybe because the guys knocked out yes so I
can understand why Marcus McDonald said okay look he's knocked out can't give
you the win this is it yeah he's seeing him on the floor I can't give you the
win because you've him after the boat is Apple what was supposed to do so you
can kind of that's why I said it's not as bad from comparing Steve Willis and
Marcus McDonald I mean it's six in bad from comparing Steve Willis and Marcus McDonald
I mean, it's six in in one half dozen the other it was a wild scene because initially
Patty thinks he won the fight and then he's down on his knees crying dude and
What what the cameras didn't pan to yes, let's just say the crowd weren't happy
Really because it felt like a very pro because he had there was but I feel like fans
Eventually, they might boo you going in but
you get their respect going out.
Interesting.
And I almost felt like they booed Paddy going in or the majority but because of his performance
so when ultimately I know there's a Belfast Limerick split there but they're Irish and
I think they showed their respect to Paddy like you should have won this and so yeah
Paddy's fans and he had a few Crocker fans and they were kind of verbose at each other
and I was like oh this is getting heated in here
but they have to run it back. If I'm Lewis Crocker I heel up and I say to Billy
Nelson okay can we scrap the idea of how you trained me for this fight and just
train me the way I got this fight. I was unbeaten in the lead-up to this because
I used to fight one way all of a sudden you've decided to try and change that
and make me fight another way no no no let me fight in my way if i lose i lose but we go out swinging i love this little uh
rivalry maybe is a strong word but a week prior you have parker bacoli lee nelson the next week
you have this situation kind of two nil down isn't it yeah two nil and you know well sort of nice
too definitely two nil it's interesting that you're saying that you want him to run it back but you say to tank screw no no no no no no no no no
just tuning in right now what's the difference understand the context of
what you just said what do you mean but I said screw Lamon Roach yeah Shaco
Stevenson only only if Shaco not Keishon not Jake maybe Keishon as well. Certainly not Jake. Why such disdain? You don't want to Jake Paul,
Javonte, David. Sounded like you did earlier. No, not at all. No, I'm just asking which is bigger. I don't want to see
Jake Paul fight Javonte. I'd rather see Jake Paul fight Carl Froch. Oh stop it with this.
Now you've lost all credibility. Really? You want to see him fight an old man? Sorry, he fought a 57 year old.
I was digging it up for that. I was digging it up for that I was digging it up for that hey we spoke about them during my ear 10 minutes we got fireman
yeah we spoke about the egg slap very quickly did we speak about Connor Ben
on Chris Eubanks I feel like we literally had a show did we do Dylan
Dennis that we had a show right after you were in a hotel room you don't
remember oh yeah we did a whole like press resident yeah well there was the
other person that we didn't talk about I thought it was great You know, I wanted on the field so bad bench alone thing and she'll only a scared thing
Yeah, yeah, and he got a bit scared as well. Yeah, I would pray into God Chris
You bank senior was gonna come in. I was I don't if you saw me looking over like that's pro
I'm gonna go in and go straight for Nigel take all my money out of this that would have been like I think it happens
at any point
Yeah Surely we surely if you see money or just that would have been like it happens at any point yeah surely we
surely if you see your nemesis attacking your son yeah surely even you've got to
put away that semi bit of little I don't know distaste between you and your son
and say you're not got Nigel no yeah you don't put your you don't put your hands
on my son I mean it's it's being talked about. I saw all the back pages, I've seen all the talk
sports stuff, everyone talking about the slap heard around the world.
It's the greatest. It's the, it's, and it's so out of character from you, it's perfect.
Well let me just say this, we've all called it an egg slap. This was an egg slap. It's
very clearly multiple eggs.
You think it was two?
Oh I think it might have been more. Look how much yolk is in there. We're counting yolk. Oh my god.
We could have just done a big egg. And also the sound. No, there's no way. Let me tell you.
Multiple. Being on the stage, the rage from Conor Ben, I felt it. I was like, you know,
like some people are like, hold me back, hold me back. And they can't, he was 100% trying to
get through those. If it was average normal human beings,
not 20 stones, he's getting through.
And he's going straight for Eubanks, and there's no fight.
Like, I've never seen someone with that rage before.
Well, I have to say, I have a lot of love
for both Conor Ben and Chris Eubank.
That might have been one of the greatest weeks of media
that any fighter has had in a very long time.
The way Chris Eubank was up there, in particular on Thursday, the way he was playing Eddie
Hearn, who we rarely see flustered, frustrated, interrupting him, telling him you're not going
to speak. The way he speaks with that cadence, he's
exotical, he's cerebral, he's intelligent, he was on fire.
And I couldn't get enough of the content.
I was searching for more.
I was telling me like, live by the egg, die by the egg.
And I was thinking, because you know, as you're hosting those things, I was thinking, okay,
do I interrupt?
I was like, no, this is perfect.
Let him cook.
Let him cook.
Yes.
I was like, oh, because it was literally him against free.
Because Benchelon wasn't doing anything.
And obviously, he actually was pretty good.
It was okay on Thursday. Yeah, he was holding his own. And his trainer wasn't doing anything and obviously he was okay on Thursday. Yeah,
he was holding his own. His trainer wasn't saying anything at all. So you had Nigel,
Eddie and Connor against Chris and he was just 10-7 all of them. This is insane. I mean,
look, he had him on the ropes and he was bringing out stuff and it's one thing to talk like
that and to talk so slowly and so methodically and then going after Eddie
Who let's be honest has the greatest gift of gab of all right?
He's the best talker of them all and he clearly had him flustered. He very much had him flustered
I thought he was phenomenal and then even afterwards. He's being interviewed
I think by the BBC and they're like who put you up to it. He's like me me myself and I
And you know the thing about Eddie what made me me laugh? Because obviously in the first presser,
he said to Eddie, you're not talking.
So I was like, please in the second presser,
because I need Eddie to say something
because it gives you a good two, three minutes build.
And then it makes me then sort of rethink
about what I'm gonna say.
Eddie starts talking in the second presser.
I'm like, oh, he's allowing Eddie to speak.
He literally waits 15 seconds.
Then it's like, Eddie, you're not speaking again.
I'm like, this is gold yeah now he's great i just
wish we saw more of it we've had a little bit from Chris obviously his dad's been the speaker
and Chris has almost been in the background now that Chris senior is not there and he doesn't
really get on with any promoter i know Ben Shalom's there now yeah but that might be gone tomorrow
he's now having to do it himself he's a lone wolf he is a lone wolf that's happy to attack every bit
of meat but prey he gets.
But guess what? He might be more popular now than ever. Because I saw the reaction. He
is, to steal a term from the world of pro wrestling, he is an ultimate babyface now
because he's going after Eddie, who's polarizing, he's going after Connor who for whatever reason-
Did you see the way he said he thinks he's hated? I was like, you're not.
No, but you know what? That's the brilliance. Because you say that and people say, no no
no, we love you. We got your back. I like the idea of, well, the 50,000 for everyone that was going to That's the brilliance. Because you say that and people say, people say, no, no, no, we love you.
We got your back.
I like what the idea of, well, the 50,000
for everyone that was gonna fight on the undercard.
Brilliant, another baby face move.
Yeah, let's see if he pays it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I wanna find out who the fighter's at.
I saw, Ellie Stotney was like,
Oh, is she?
Yeah, she's like, where do I send my employees?
Where do I send, I love it.
I loved everything that he did.
It was phenomenal stuff.
You know, usually when we do this program,
we have a parting shot to end the day.
I didn't really tell the crew here on location
We need our parting shot and so I say we go back to the the pancake
Should that be the parting shot the pancake or the egg? No, but it was Tuesday. The pancake was today
Can we get the pancake one last pancake? Can we get the pancake? Okay parting shot? Okay one last time KSI
Dylan Dennis in case you missed it. He definitely not coming to this one much. We know
Can I not convince you can Can I not convince you?
I have not been asked but here we are
KSI, JJ as we like to call him
No no we don't call him JJ, we call him KSI
Take a listen, take a listen, take a listen
OOOH! Actually you do hear it!
That's loud!
You know what, that's, I can see why I didn't react to it
That's a proper slap
That is a proper slap, that's actually rude
And shout out to our good friend Olivia. You know like, slaps are like, slaps seem to be
allowed on Punches On aren't they? Like slaps seem to be the thing. They ain't
a white. Oh wow.
You see? Good plug for that.
That certainly wasn't a plug. Another plug. There's a lot of action coming
to Dzone this week. We mentioned Sergio Pettis fighting in India there's a golden boy card on Thursday and a big one that I'm looking forward to most
valuable prospects on Friday.
Can I just say Eric Furniss on top of his dome I thought this was going to come up on
your screen you're so professional you're doing this just off the top.
Listen.
Wow.
I just do my thing I cannot wait for that card in Toronto why Lucas body returning he
had the knockout of the year last year.
Okay you're sharing off a bit too much all right Tamar Tibo the Canadian Olympian who
went one and oh in her pro debut she won a pro debut under the MVP I know this is in
Canada he sent all these sign her and now she's looking to go to Canada hey shout out
to Dan Canobio and Wade Plam they'll be on the call as well on Friday wait wait yes that's
tough wait yeah wow okay I could go on and on, but they're, yeah, they're wrapping us up. It's time.
I don't know why we have to, I always wonder why we got to stop.
We got to go. There's another press conference, by the way, happening here in New York City
on Thursday. Are you going to be there?
Canelo versus Williamsville for the IBF title. I don't know. Stop asking me these questions.
God damn it. We got to go. For Adeola Depot I'm Ariel Hawhani
there's Times Square by the way if you like this program watch us each and
every week around this time it's called we might do one on Thursday we might do
one on Thursday probably not I do one at a show not podcast we might do one on
Thursday why did Todd call it a podcast like a slight that was it a slight big
yeah I felt it and that's unacceptable. Anyway, he's gonna
be on my show tomorrow in studio. I don't know. Are you paying me? Are you paying me?
No. Okay. Anyway, good night from Times Square. Thanks for watching.
