And welcome to the session of Ariel and Ade right here.
On the zone, the undisputed global home of boxing, my name of course Ariel Hawani.
Inside our beautiful New York City Uncrowned studio.
Look how nice it is outside.
The city on fire.
The Knicks in the Eastern Conference Final.
There is no better time than New York City in the spring.
And this is a very special show, my friends,
because in a bit we're gonna be joined
by the talk of the town across the pond.
The white rhino himself, Dave Allen, gonna join us
following his scintillating win over one Johnny Fischer
on Saturday at the copper box.
It's not the copper box again.
And it's even bigger because we have secured the services of the host,
one half of the critically acclaimed, extremely popular Ade and Gman program,
the one and only Ade Oladipo is here, my guy! Ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy All time? And the legend. Oh, by far, it's with some distance. What's the top three?
I would say Tupac, Nas, Biggie. It's gotta be Biggie.
Wow.
It's gotta be Biggie.
I thought you were gonna go maybe like Central C,
Buju Bantan, and like Dave.
Yeah.
And I walk like a champion.
Act like a champion.
Act like a champion.
That's a classic, by the way.
Ariel, you do throw me left sometimes.
Your knowledge of all things is crazy.
Bujubatan, legend, absolute legend.
Well, it's good to see you.
Thank you for joining us.
Thank you, sir.
I'm looking forward to talking to Dave Allen.
What a character he is.
Like a real workman-like character, someone that you can really get behind,
the everyman, if you will, what a moment he had on Saturday.
We have to talk about what's going on with Canelo and Crawford,
what days is happening, who's promoting it, where is it airing?
There's a lot of drama surrounding that card.
Jake Paul trying to get this Tank Davis fight.
What is going on with that?
What's going on with the KSI stuff as well?
Is Boots Ennis going to fight Tiafimo Lopez next?
And are they really doing a fight at a tennis stadium
in New York in July?
All that and more.
But let's go back to this past Saturday.
You were there, Copper Box Arena.
What a scene it was.
You know, when they first booked these two at A,
Johnny Fischer and Dave Allen.
Remember when they booked them,
it was for the December card in Riyadh.
They booked it, I think they announced it around October or so, and everyone was like,
this is a cupcake fight, this is not interesting, Johnny Fisher deserves a tougher test,
Alan's a journeyman, he's a gatekeeper, all this stuff.
And then a funny thing happened in December.
Fisher wins controversially, skin of his teeth, split decision.
People say, should they run it back? Should they not run it back?
And then all of a sudden they actually run it back.
This past Saturday, Dave Allen knocks him out in the fifth round.
Buzzer beater. And now everyone's saying, they ruined Johnny Fisher.
They pushed him too fast. Oh, isn't it crazy how it all works out?
You were there. What did you see?
Yeah, honestly, firstly, crazy atmosphere.
We've been lucky recently over here in the UK.
We've had some really sort of good fights or good atmospheres, but this one maybe topped
the lot in terms of smaller arenas.
I'm certainly not saying Ben Eubank.
In terms of the smaller sort of venues, both of them got an incredible reception.
And look, Dave Allen, as we're seeing here, just looked, I mean, physically, I mean, we'll
talk to him in a minute about it physically, maybe not, you know, maybe not AJ like, but he knows
how to box. He knows how to box. He knows he's level. He knows who he can be. He knows
who he can't be. He's always been very honest about it. And that finish body, body head
was watching it in real time. And I was like as close to ringside as you can get. It was an incredible finish.
He had a body body hook.
I mean he's 267 pounds and obviously he lands a little uppercut there just for just to make
sure that this is done.
He looked really good.
He looked really good.
And I almost felt like the fight in Saudi Arabia as you mentioned in December, I feel
that it was 60 to 70 percent of his capabilities. I think he only trained for five or six weeks. I spoke
to his trainer after Jamie Moore and Jamie was like, look, if they dare take the rematch,
go and have your Christmas, enjoy with your family, stay in relatively good shape and
we can have a 10 week camp. And if we have a 10 week gap, we got this kid. So they always
kind of felt like they wouldn't have the rematch because they felt like maybe Johnny Fish's team would be silly to want a rematch.
But if they did get a rematch, they'd have a full camp and they knew how good they were compared to Johnny Fish.
And I think we saw it plan out on Saturday.
And so where do you land on the debate, which is essentially Fisher was pushed too fast, too soon and or it was a mistake to book the rematch or
is it just possibly like yo he got beat you know it was a close fight back in
December and he got beat by a veteran who was just better on the night where
you cuz cuz everyone wants to in retrospect now make this some sort of
like indictment on Johnny or on matchroom they pushed him too fast all
this stuff more as opposed to maybe just saying like look lesson learned
He got beat now. We'll find out who he is. Does he come back or does this define him as a fighter ultimately though?
Where do you where do you sort of fall on that side of the debate? Is it is it the column air is at the column B?
You know everyone's playing Monday morning quarterback, right? Yeah, that's kind of what everyone's trying to do here, which is just rubbish. I've seen so many people, people that I respect in a game
saying, Oh, I should never have taken the rematch. And I'm like, well, one second, let
me just go back to your tweets from December when you were saying Dave Allen isn't ready
for this fight and Dave Allen should retire. All of a sudden now you're saying things like
Johnny shouldn't have fought him again. So I just, I am with it happened. These are two big boys, two guys that are touching 260 pounds,
that are throwing bombs. Someone's going to lose. And for this thing,
there's been a lot of critique about Eddie Hearn, um,
maybe not matchmaking correctly and maybe not putting these fighters in a
position where they win. We don't want that. Yes.
I want to see fights where I go in there and I don't know what's going to happen.
Not where Prospect gets to 25 and 0 having fought taxi drivers.
Put them in there and put them in there with good test and then we'll see what you're made
of and unfortunately Johnny Fisher wasn't able to do the job on Saturday but the heavyweight
division is full of people that have lost big time, have been written off and I mean
Daniel DuBois probably the biggest case have risen.
I'm not saying Johnny Fisher is going to become world champion, but give him time to grow.
It was a defeat.
He got the tactics wrong.
He got beat by a better man.
Let's see what he can do after he sort of heals up
and comes back.
We've talked about this in the past.
The likes of Eddie, damned if they do, damned if they don't.
If they booked the cupcake fights,
you're booking cupcake fights.
If there's knockouts like this that transpire,
oh my God, you don't
know how to build a prospect. You're putting him in two tough matchups too early on. It's
like, what do you want? I'll always take column B. Obviously there has to be a science to
it. Obviously you have to be somewhat strategic early on. But what do we ultimately want?
We want competitive fights. And it's interesting because now as a part of the deal as Dave Allen revealed he is now a matchroom fighter as a result of this I
think he now has a new two-fight deal with matchroom and so he scores that and
and it's a little bit awkward because it's very clear that matchroom wanted
Johnny Fisher to win back in December they wanted him to win on Saturday he's
their guy but that's just the way it goes and now all of a sudden you have
this sort of like rocky like character who has an incredible backstory who has overcome gambling
problems and alcohol problems and and his career seemed like it was going to just kind of fizzle
out a few years ago now all of a sudden he's the talk of the town and i'm actually in a weird way
if johnny fisher would have won a very close decision or another controversial
one, okay, now you'd say like this guy, like what do we make of him? But the way he handled
that loss on Saturday, I don't know if you saw some of the interviews in the locker room,
he's talking about his father owing $350,000, coming from nothing, all this stuff, like
now you want to root for him even more. Like these are the types of stories, everyone loves
a redemption story, a reclamation project,
and that's what he is.
So we're going to find out who Johnny Fisher is now, right?
We're going to find out if he can dust himself off,
rebuild himself into a better fighter,
or if this just comes down on his shoulders
and he is a never was.
We're going to find out,
but I'm actually more interested
in the story of Johnny Fisher now
than I was maybe five days ago.
Did the problem Matrim have with Johnny Fisher is he's a big ticket seller and
you don't normally get prospects that sell as many tickets as Johnny Fisher.
There were 8,000 in the copper box.
I would say 90% of that was his crowd.
So that crowd obeying for him to be stepped up and pushed up levels.
So Matt from always struggling against the pushback, he'd be like against the
tide, Like,
okay, we need to put him in with someone because he sells big tickets and we need to see where
this goes. They couldn't always kind of put him in with Journeyman. So, maybe they did
jump too soon, maybe, with Dave Ellum, but they almost had to risk it because again,
he's got a big fan base and they were talking big things, potentially a British title fighter
of the year two arena. But I love the Johnny Fischer story. I've sat with Johnny Fischer, I've met him so many times, we've spoken privately,
publicly. He's a great guy. He's a great, great guy. Honestly, he's never said, I'm
going to be world champion. He's never been outlandish in his actions or his talk. He
just wants to have a fight, whether it be English level, British level, European or
I dare say world level. So I'm fully behind his story because he's one of the good guys in this sport, which is full of a lot of bad guys. So I hate the
ridicule he's getting. He lost. He dared to run it back. He didn't need to, but he ran
it back. He could have said, you know what? Nope. We have, we, we beat Dave Allen. Let's
kind of circle away from him now. But it was like, okay, you know what? Let's do it again.
And he got beat too much is made of prospects losing.
It's crazy.
I don't know.
It's one thing that we need to get rid of in the sport of boxing.
I thought we had, I know Turkey's done a great job in saying, okay, if you lose, no problem,
come back again.
So now it's the rebuild job and who, as you say, doesn't like a good rebuild job in a
sport of boxing.
We love it.
So I'm on the Johnny Fisher hype train.
I really want to see him back.
I love his fan base.
I'm a big fan of his dad as well.
I know you had him on the show a few months ago.
These two are great.
This was an immediate aftermath.
These two are good friends,
but sometimes you have to put that friendship aside
when it's good money to be made.
They both made good money.
Johnny Fisher's healthy, which was a worry
because you saw the paramedics jump into the ring
immediately, it was a big knockout, but he's fine and we go again.
That's all it is.
By the way, it's going to be really interesting to see how Matron books Johnny now and also Dave.
But you know, Johnny coming off the loss and how quickly they want him to come back.
And when I say quickly, I don't mean next month.
I think you can make a strong case for back into the year, early next year, after a knockout like that, at his age,
you want to be very, very careful.
You don't want to rush him.
He'll probably want to say, like, let me get back in there.
You need to be very careful now.
My favorite part of that whole scene wasn't the knockout.
The knockout was tremendous.
It's a highlight, real knockout.
It's the highlight of Dave Allen's career.
Did you notice?
No celebration.
In fact, he was telling everyone to chill out. And that's the kind of guy that he is, highlight of Dave Allen's career. Did you notice? No celebration.
In fact, he was telling everyone to chill out.
And that's the kind of guy that he is,
and it speaks to the friendship
that you were just talking about.
Extremely rare.
We were talking last week about their face-to-face
where they were kind of like digging at each other.
To have that type of two-fight series,
and the words being exchanged,
and one guy thinks he got robbed,
and everything that transpired back in December, and then to knock him out the way in which he did greatest moment of his career and to not go crazy
jump on the turnbuckle celebrate no one would have faulted him had he done that in that moment you
got to see who Dave Allen was remarkable indeed indeed that's the character of the man honestly
again this is someone that's been through everything in this sport again touted as a prospect a bit like Johnny Fisher
Got matched wrong early suffered some bad defeats as well. So he's been there
He knows exactly what Johnny fish was going through right now. Got a great team
Jamie Moore Nigel Travis great team and they were like that as well as watching them
I was looking I was right by their corner and I was looking at them as well as they were
Sort of seeing Johnny Fisher and they were very calm as well. They
weren't celebrating. It was a big moment for them. The whole team understand that, you
know, it gets serious in there. It was a big knockout. The paramedics were really on to
Johnny Fisher and you can celebrate after. You can go back and in a couple of days time,
you can go for a drink, you can do whatever you need to do. But in that moment you saw
the real Dave Allen and I'm happy that he's doing the rounds.
We're going to speak to him.
Everyone's now starting to see Dave and fingers crossed.
I think Dave's only 32, 33.
I think there's a couple of really big fights in there for Dave Allen.
Now that he knows where he is, he's got a good team.
He's a family man now.
He's had a couple of kids.
I think it's a new Dave Allen.
Hopefully he knows that as well and he can go on and make some good money in this sport
of boxing. Yeah. He is 33, 24, 7 and 2, has had his ups and downs.
I'll put you on the spot.
Who do you want to see him fight next?
There's a British title fight between David Adelaide and Jimmy TKV.
It's a fight obviously that happened about a month and a half ago, dubious end to it,
so they're running it back.
The winner of that fight, David Adelaide was ringside and he's always happy to play the bad guy. And Dave
Allen is certainly the people's champion. So it's got a perfect narrative to it as well.
So I think David Adelaide will beat Jimmy TAKV and then it's Adelaide versus Dave Allen
anywhere. It will do good numbers because I almost feel like Dave in that fight and
the reaction after is one over a lot of Johnny Fischer's fans.
So I almost feel like Johnny Fischer's fans and now Dave Allen fans.
So I think he's going to have a really good fan base next time he fights and I think and
I hope it's David Adelaide.
All right, so without further ado, let us say hello to the aforementioned White Rhino,
the pride of Don Castor, the man who we were just talking
about and singing his praises, not only for the knockout, but how he handled the knockout,
how he celebrated the one and only Dave Allen. Kind enough to join us on this Tuesday evening.
Dave, great to meet you. Thank you so much for doing this and congratulations on the
incredible win. I called it the greatest moment of your career. Is that a fair assessment?
I think it is, but would love to hear it from you.
Yeah, first of all, thanks for having me on.
Got the kids to bed, I'm worse for work.
Yeah.
Winner of my career,
I don't think you'd talk to the Lucas Brown fight
for me personally.
I'm from Doncaster, which is a little town up north, something like
a glamorous place.
And at 27, I headlined the biggest arena in the UK, being a guy that held the version
of the world title.
So for a kid at 27, and at 27, my life was pretty hectic and to headline the 0-2, a kid from a little village three
or four hours up north, I don't think I'll ever top it really.
I was really proud of that, really, really proud of it and I was happy with Saturday.
You know, it's really given me a springboard to finish my career and hopefully pick up
a belt and definitely have some stability financially and otherwise.
But the look is brown and I don't think I'll ever top it.
Okay, and that's fair.
And by the way, I always love how sort of brutally honest you are, especially from this
vantage point.
I was watching your video that you posted on your YouTube channel just about an hour
or so ago saying that you were tired of watching Peppa Pig with your kids. I've been there before, my friend. I've been there before.
I get it. Sometimes it gets a little tiresome. But you did say something that really caught
my attention there. You say you don't think you'll ever top that. You don't think you'll
ever top that moment. You're red hot now. You're the talk of the town. Why can't you
top it? Why can't you go into 3-4-5 fight
winning streak now and get back to the 0-2?
Well, first of all, Peppa's rude, I think.
You think so?
I think she's rude, yeah. She rubs me up the wrong way, to be honest. She irritates me
a little bit. And probably more importantly, yeah, it'd be nice to talk about. Yeah, it would be nice.
I just think when I was doing things in my 20s,
I was doing them even though it was against all odds really.
Like when I boxed Johnny Fish on Saturday,
if I hadn't met Johnny Fish on Saturday,
I'd have been heartbroken, you know.
Been boxing 17 years now, national amateur champion.
When I turned pro, at least locally,
everyone was like, this boy can, this boy can, you know, watch the world titles.
And that went down the wayside in my 20s.
I got a little bit lost, life kind of got in the way for me.
But at 33 now, I have a normal life.
I've got a family, I've got kids, I have stability,
I have world-class boxing coaches.
I should be beating Johnny Fischer. So I'm Um, I should be beating Johnny Fisher.
So I'm doing what I should be doing now.
Finally, at 33, I'm doing what I should be doing.
So, so yeah, if I win the British title, that would probably top
beating Lucas Brown, D02, you know, if I beat some other, if I beat some
really big names, that would, that would top it as well, but beating Johnny
Fisher for me didn't quite do that because
I expected to win Saturday.
And more so if I didn't win Saturday, I'd have been gutted.
I was adamant I was going to win.
Dave, I spoke to Darren after.
Darren Barker obviously, Darren trained you before and he said the motivation is what's
changed you now.
He said the talent was always there.
I think we all knew the talent was there.
And he said it's the kids.
He said you're no longer doing it for yourself anymore.
You're doing it for your kids, your family.
Has that been the big change in everything in getting to the gym?
What you're doing with Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis? Is it the kids? Is it,
is that, is it that simple?
Yeah, I think so. You know, I'm, I don't really do things for me. I'm not,
I'm like, I'm not interested. I always list my own devices. Before I met my missus,
I didn't even have a sofa, I didn't have a bed, I didn't have a kettle, I didn't have
anything. I just slept on the floor. I had a TV, I think I had a TV and two set e-cushions.
I'm not really a guy, I don't do things. I don't like doing things. I don't want to do
things. I'm not interested. I used to just, I can't believe how many years passed me by.
I met the kids and like I look at my kids and I love them, you know, I get emotional
thinking about them. So I just, uh, I want to give them nice things, you know, I've got no real
hard luck story. Me upbringing, you know, it wasn't,
you know, it definitely wasn't, you know,
it was a working class upbringing.
It wasn't, it was hard at times,
but there's no real hard luck stories
or nothing really to write on with that.
It was just hard.
But I don't want my kids to have a hard life.
I don't want them to go without, you know,
I want them to have everything. I want to have two stuff with them, to be honest. I don't want them to go without, you know, I want them to have everything.
I want to, I'm too stuck with them, to be honest.
My daughter's gonna be in a nightmare.
You know, when she gets a boyfriend,
when she's in the 40s, I feel sorry for him
because he's gonna be hard for them, you know.
So, so yeah, I just, yeah,
I just want to give them everything.
So I'm away in Manchester four days a week.
I'm training hard.
My diet needs a bit of
work to be honest.
But yeah, the kids, the kids really, my nan passed in a way really was the start of me
maturing really, my nan passed.
And my nan passed 10 years earlier, you know, my life would have been over.
But at 30, I'd already settled down a little bit. My life
was a bit more normal. And I always feel so guilty saying it, but my mum passing away
really was like, and it sounds horrible to say, but like, it changed me for the better
really. She passed away, changed me, matured me overnight, hardened me,
blown me out, but really showed me that.
You know, yeah, it's hard to put into words really, because it's not something I've ever had to put into words before.
But really, yeah, difficult for me to put into words right now, but yeah, I'm a man
now. I'm a man and I've got kids and I just want to go and do my best for them.
I think it's this type of raw emotion, Dave, and I think I speak for everyone here, and
this is the reason people get behind you. I was there, as you know, on Saturday and
you're walking out into what was Johnny
Fischer's crowd. And normally you'd expect a few boos and it wasn't there and you walked
out and it was cheers as well. Like you've almost sort of turned his fans to love you
as well, which I found fascinating. Are you surprised they took the rematch considering
that many people, I think most thought you won the first fight. Are you surprised they
didn't think, okay, we got away with that one. Let's kind of move on to something
else.
Yeah. You know, it's funny. I walked home, I walked home and I thought they're going
to boo me or they're not. And you know, people are like, people saw it was a nice game. And
I just think I'm a little twat, you know, like I'm a naughty little man. Do you know
what I mean? Like I'm, I'm just a naughty guy. Like I'm myself. Do you know what I mean?
I'm not an angel. Do you know what I mean? So, and I think that's why people like me really,
because I'm just a normal person. You know, I think I'm a good hearted fella, but I'm a little
twit as well. Do you know what I mean? I know I'll have a little dig here and there and do this and
have a laugh and whatever else. I'm one of the boys. I'm not an angel. I'm one of the boys. So,
and I think that's why people are taking to me and that's nice
But it turns the fight itself the rematch yeah, I told them myself I said the day after the first one I said Johnny I literally told one camera off camera said Johnny don't box me again next because
When I boxed me Saudi Arabia, I'd had six rounds of Fraser Clarke apart from that. I've not in a real fight for five years
So I boxed Johnny the first time. The first
three or four rounds were hard. My timing was off. It wasn't even off. It wasn't even
there. I got through the first three or four rounds being a tough old man who's got a
bit of experience. And then I got to him in five rounds and I shouldn't have been getting
to anybody in five rounds. I got myself, I was just fit. I was just fit and hard. I had a bit of experience. But the first fight did me in the world of good. As soon rounds I got myself I was just I was just fit I was just fit and I had a
bit of experience but the first fight in the world of good as soon as I got back in
the gym I thought why then turn around in the world of good I thought Johnny
Fisher cannot live with me and I got back in the gym February time I sparred
Pat Brown at about 22 stone near I put about three stone on three or four stone
on over Christmas and January because I'm an animal, that's what I do. And yeah, I spotted Pat Brown and I got back in the gym and I thought,
wow, I'm three, four stone overweight and I felt sharp as anything, felt really sharp.
And then fast forward to March, April and me, Jamie and Nigel said look Johnny Fisher he cannot even
compete with me and Saturday that was the case really. I felt, I do
feel I could have ended it in a round or two if I wanted to if I'd let my hands go
but I'm very cautious and safety first and I Went the rounds and waited till he was gone and took him out. It was
Don't if it's a nice fella and he will be a good fighter, but he's a real novice fighting someone who in me isn't a will be
But to beat me you have to be pretty good and he's not there yet
Why didn't you celebrate Dave? Why was your reaction what it was when you scored the knockout?
Well Johnny Fischer is my mate.
Like I do like him.
Someone I really admire him to be honest.
He's younger than me.
He's a really nice fella, you know.
Really nice fella.
He's like, yeah, he's like me,
but without that bit of devil in him.
Do you know what I mean?
Like he's a nice guy, you know.
So, but it wouldn't have mattered if it was Johnny F Fisher or someone else I didn't like. I would never celebrate. I walked to the
ring and on the way to the ring you know I could see his old man and his mom and his brothers and
sisters so when he goes down face first my first thoughts I put my arms in the air, raised my arms
looked over, saw he was a flat on his face and his mum and dad were watching and if it
was the other way around, you know my mum and dad were watching, I wouldn't want someone
running around celebrating till they know that I was alright. So Johnny Fisher isn't
making that but it's just a right and wrong thing really, I'm not going to celebrate while
he's down, I've got nothing against him and I'm not even a celebr and wrong thing really. I'm not gonna celebrate while he's down. I've got nothing against him and
I'm not even a celebratory guy anyway, really
You know, I'm not even I've not really celebrated since those exciting thing I've done. What's most exciting thing I've done since
I had a diet coke after the fight
I told it I had a bottle of diet coke. Did I eat anything? Didn't even eat anything.
Nothing.
I had a diet coke.
What did I do?
I had a diet coke, had about 6,000 pitchers in the hotel,
and I had a bath.
I couldn't even shower because I perforated my eardrums.
I had to have a shower.
Well, I did see a lovely photo
of you bringing the belt to your father,
and I love the description.
Had to go take the belt to see my dad. He watched the fight, bladdered in a snooker hall in Donny Town Centre some
man.
Yeah, my dad's, yeah, he's well known. My dad is a mad man, you know. He's mad. He's
crazy. You know, I'm my mother's son. I'm the child of my mum. I'm easy going. I'm a nice guy, chilled out.
Yeah, my dad's a lonely bin.
That's why he's not allowed to come to the boxing.
Yeah, why not?
He'd probably be scrapping me, Johnny Fish's dad.
I haven't got time for that.
That's what I'm just... Yeah.
And you laugh, yeah. People laugh when I say that,
but my dad's serious.
My dad would fight anybody.
He used to have an Instagram account called Dave Allen Fighting Man.
You know, he'd fight anybody, that man. yeah, he's mad, you know, so.
But me dad was a good fighter as well, he had a bunch of fights, I'm a pro boxer in England,
30 pro fights, never been stopped.
He was a good fighter, but he's still not safe to leave the house.
So he went to the snow crawling town, bladded he were.
A few people texted me to see his dad steaming down Silver Street, so.
You know, he enjoyed it, took the belt to him. blood anywhere. A few people text me to say your dad's steaming down Silver Street. So,
you know, he enjoyed it, took the belt to him. We have a mad relationship really. It's very,
it's a mad one, but he's my dad and I love him. So I was, I was happy to make him proud.
Dave, the weight, I've got to talk to you about the weight. Look, you fooled everyone because you still look flat on your feet. I mean, sorry, sort of on your toes. You look good.
So regardless of what the weight was, you got the job done.
What do you think is your best weight though, Dave?
If it was like the biggest fight of your life is coming up, what weight is Dave Allen?
No, it's difficult.
It's a difficult one to answer really, because you know, common sense says
like I should be a lot lighter.
I had a dexter body scan and they said to me
At 10% body fat I could do 17-73 because the first question was can I do a bridge your weight?
That was the first question I asked Wow
Which is 16-74 and he says you 17-73 and he was 13 pound cut whatever whatever it is
So it's a 17 stone three, okay.
So now for me personally, I watched David Price
at 17 stone three and I felt shocking.
Felt terrible, couldn't punch, no punch resistance.
I watched Lucas Brown at 17 six, but I think at 33,
I'm twice the size I was at 27.
If you look at Lennox Lewis in his early days,
you know, even in his mid to late 20s,
you look at him again in his mid to late 30s, he was twice the size.
You know, I think I've matured a lot.
It's difficult.
I weighed in 1813, but I weighed in 185 for the first fight.
When I had a belly for the first fight, and madly enough, if I had 0% body fat, I still
have a belly.
That's what I'm that guy like.
I've got an awful body.
I could have a handsome because my body's terrible. What a worse body. I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a body that's like, I've got a damn that guy like, I've got an awful body, I could have my hands on it because my body's terrible, what a worst body I've
ever seen, it's horrible, like it's just terrible, I don't even know how I've got kids, it's
horrible, my body is mad, but my perfect weight, I've sparred a lot of people and when I've
been heavy, I sparred one guy, Simon Valli, the Commonwealth Games
gold medalist back in the day and I'll never forget, it was years ago, I sparred him once,
I was big, I was really big and heavy and after the spar I said, Dave, seriously, you
hit so much harder with the weight on, you know, so and then as I've got a bit older,
I'm a bit more analytical and looking at stuff and thinking more and watching my fights and watching other heavyweights from this era and eras
gone by and I'm not fast of feet I'm not fast of foot I've got fast hands with
single punch but I don't throw combinations really I'm clever I'm clever. I'm really clever fighter, physically strong, heavy handed and tough.
So for me to even think about like having low body fat so I could be sharp.
It makes no sense because that's not what I'm about.
So there's no way I can be boxing under 18 stone because it takes away my advantages.
Um, it's just going to make me a little bit sharper when I'm not a sharp guy
anyway, you know, so for me. my advantages and it's just gonna make me a little bit sharper and I'm not a sharp guy anyway
you know so for me I think anywhere between 18.5 and 18.13 the other day if I were ever 19.7
without taking the piss I mean I ate shit for this fight anyway my diet was probably
probably 50 50 good good and bad But
My weight for me isn't really a isn't really a huge factor
I don't think and the side of 18 5 are waiting first thing in the morning
We did a ceremonial way into a 18 5 in the morning
But I got weighed in the morning the same time this time and probably an 18 stone 7 18 7 8 so really it's only two or
three pound
differential really because I got weighed in four hours later.
So yeah, like people said my thing the other day,
certain YouTubers out there,
not even about the weight really.
People chat shit, they haven't got a clue
what they're talking about.
That's the top and bottom of it.
You know, not even the weight.
The weight wasn't even a factor.
The weight isn't a factor.
Eight pounds for a fellow walking, who walks factor. The weight isn't a factor. Eight pounds for a fellow who walks around at 22 stone
isn't a factor.
I can get weighed on a Friday morning at the gym.
I can have a mad weekend and I can go back to gym
Monday morning and I put on between 10 and 16 pounds.
So realistically eight pounds is different.
I didn't weigh at the same time.
It's mad really.
It's mad.
People, yeah, it's mad really. It's mad. People,
yeah, it's an experience and I know the crap. When I weighed at 1813,
didn't even give it a thought to be honest. It wasn't a worry at all.
Right. Hey, you look good. You look good. The gas tank looked good. So whatever the weight is, it's working for you. What next Dave? I hate when we have to ask that question, but you know
what it's like, you beat someone, it's always like, what's next? And I thought Jamie Ward
did a really good interview of you in the ring, sort of asking that question as well.
Is it the winner of David Adelaide, Jimmy TKV, British title fight, is that now the
aim, the goal?
You know, it's about levels as well really. Like Johnny Fisher, I'm not sure how good he's really so I'm not sure how good I am because
of that. You know I know I'm a good fighter I've sparred all the world champions I've boxed some
very good fighters I boxed very good I boxed Dylan White, Lewis Ortiz back to back and I had 10 amateur
fights I'd only got out the first round I think four times I had 10 pro fights I think I only got out of the first round, I think, four times. I had 10 profiles, I only got out of the first round six times.
And I watched Dylan White, took him 10 rounds.
Luis Ortiz took him seven.
I didn't train for Luis Ortiz, so the narrative that I've never been any good is completely
false, he's wrong.
I had a lot of natural talent and I was tough and strong.
I was always decent.
I'm never going to be a world-beater
because there's factors involved like I've got my arms are four inches long
and that's one shoulder to the end of my fingertips as well. I'm built like a
T-Rex. I'm slow and I don't hit that hard at the highest level so I'm never
gonna go to the very top and I'm alright with that. I accepted that a long time
ago. Of course I spied the U6 and in the Furies you know you get to see the
levels but um yeah I hold on to it if I can win a British title, a Commonwealth title,
push on for European titles you know beat some big faded names because in 100 years
time we're all dead anyway so when they look back and go oh Dave Allen beat him you don't
matter if you're 46, still beat him. Yeah, I have all kinds of aspirations and ambitions really.
The fact I missed Eddie Haynes six times today.
I missed him six times with six different ideas.
I followed him back on Instagram yesterday.
You haven't followed me?
I see that, yeah, first time.
You haven't followed me first.
Eddie, you haven't followed me yet?
And I thought you're cheeky, you are.
So I followed him back, yeah.
And after I boxed Fisher in Saudi, he goes and follows me.
And I thought, oh, I'm going to be a great player. I'm going to be a great player. I'm going to be a great player. I'm going to be. And I thought, you're cheeky, you are.
So I unfollowed him back, yeah?
And after I bought a fish from Saudi,
he goes and follows me again,
and I thought, yeah, I can see you,
but I ain't following you back.
But now, I was self-signed with him,
I thought I'd follow you back.
So I followed him back, sent him six ideas through,
he puts, he sends me laughing reactions back,
but I'm serious
he thinks I'm joking I ain't joking can he tell us those what are the six oh
loads of ideas I've got ideas coming out my ears I want to hear them want to hear
them you don't want to earn you'll laugh at me as well no no I won't we're
backing you on the plan is when the headline locally in September okay well I
don't want to wait till September because if I'm watching September
I'm thinking i'm not gonna go back to the gym
till mid july
So I said to edler I want to box. I want to box before september. Why wait?
There's a fellow called chris lovejoy was meant to box five years ago
Oh the big america guy the america guy
Meant to watch him years ago. he's 22-1-1.
And look, to be honest he ain't very good but that don't bother me to be honest.
So I thought well if I'm going to keep busy I'd love to box him.
Then we go Sheffield, defend the belt I've just won.
And at the end of the year if the British title is ready, like I say, I'd like to TKV,
love to box the winner.
And if not, I'd box anybody. Box anybody at that point, not bothered.
So, yeah, I've got all kinds of ideas. I'll box anybody though.
And people know that about me. Some people say, I'll box anybody.
I mean, I will box anybody. I've lost seven times.
There's not really much to lose at this point.
But I would like a couple of fights.
I think I'm still getting better and I still think I've only, I think I've had 21 rounds in six years, so.
Yeah, I think I can still get a little bit more out of myself.
So hopefully I'm given the chance
and Eddie will get another seven takes tomorrow.
Another fight today after that.
So he's either gonna follow me again
or he's gonna give me what I want.
So one or the other I'm up with.
Dave, what would you like to see Johnny Fisher do?
How does he navigate this point?
He has to improve.
He has to improve.
He didn't show any improvement from December till May, which is worrying for me.
And people said to me earlier, like, why?
Well, you're not his mate.
You say nice things about him.
I say that because I am his mate
There's a good guy, you know, really good fellow proper nice fellow really nice, you know
He's the kind of guy you'd leave your missus in the house with and you know, you're all right
His sound is a really really good blow to a proper blow
But like he ain't got no better since December
didn't learn a thing didn't learn anything gone backwards didn't learn anything and his confidence
was shattered I'd done him in the I'd done him in the uh in the build-up I'd done him done him yeah
because people think I'm daft yeah but I'm daft. I'm actually on the sly, quite intelligent.
Because I like daft and I tell jokes.
Listen, I'll be out playing games from December 21st.
Tell me the rematch might happen.
So I'll play in games straight away.
That doesn't mean I don't like it.
It means the game's the game.
I've got kids.
I'll do what I've got to do to beat her and it works.
I'll play in games from the get-go.
The rematch might happen, right, okay.
Plant a few seeds. Well, I'll tell them what I think they should be go. The rematch might happen, right, okay. Planted a few seeds.
Well, I was telling them what I think
they should be doing in the rematch even back then.
I was saying things that weren't true,
because I knew that's what I'm about.
I'm that guy, you know, I'm a survivor.
I grew up with sisters.
You have to survive in this game, you have to be smart.
So I worry for him,
because he didn't show any signs of improvement.
I think, I think there's loads of things I think,
there's loads of them, but he has to improve.
The kind of fellow he is, given the chance,
he will improve, you know, he will improve.
He has lots of raw attributes that he can,
that can be worked on, but he needs to do it, he needs to be matched properly.
You know, the first fight against me was understandable, everyone thought I was shot to bits
and I'll finish, so yeah let's box Dave Allen and chin him because no one's dropped him.
That's fine and I thought it was a good match for him as well because I'm not sure what I've
got left myself. The second time, whatever his idea of the rematch was, do you know what I mean? I'm not sure, I'm not sure that she's
still being involved in working with moving forward because the most, I told him, I even
told him myself. I even said don't do it again. If your opponent says don't box with me, even
though it's the biggest fight for them financially and otherwise, you probably should listen
to him really yeah I'm genuinely being a nice guy
even I was planting seeds if the rematch did happen because I had a feeling they
would push for it but I wanted to do well and I would help him if they ever
said to me look can you help us in any way can you any pointers come down to the
gym do some do some body sparring did better this better
I would love to because like people saying I you say this and that I
Say hasn't improved since the first fight. I said it was poorly over day and it comes from a place is like actual friendship
You know like you know when your mate goes out and he's wearing this way some mad outfit or like his elbow shit
I want to tell him.
You tell him, don't you? You tell him.
You don't let him go out looking like a dick, do you?
You say, oh, you're like an idiot.
What are you doing?
So it's only the same idea really.
So it needs to improve a lot drastically.
Because the other way of division is not something
to be messed about with, you know?
And I learned how to defend first.
And yeah, I got beat a few times because of it because I was safety first and I was very defensive.
And my output was low.
But I had never been on the canvas.
And I never will be seen on there.
And you need to learn how to box.
Dave, one last one and we'll let you go because I know it's getting late there.
You know, you're talking about...
And I will talk all night as well.
No, no, it's okay.
I love it.
I mean, that's why I urge people to check out the YouTube channel.
It's great raw insight into your mind.
You know, you talked about being a survivor.
If we would have spoke, you know, five years ago, 2020, you announced your retirement from
the sport.
You're going through a tough time.
And I would have told you that it would have turned out this way, that you'd work your
way back up, that you'd get an opportunity like this,
that you'd headline, that all of a sudden you'd be in demand,
that you'd be with Eddie, all this stuff.
Would you have believed me or would all of this have sounded too crazy?
You know what? I would have believed it. Yeah, I would have, yeah.
Because even though I am modest, and I'm modest because sometimes I have low confidence,
and I do have low confidence.
Sadly it was the first fight I've ever been into. I bought some genuine, I bought some terrible genuine as well.
I boxed people, I showed them my license to be honest. They were really bad.
But even then you're like, I've been able to talk myself into thinking I'm going to get beat somehow.
So I am pretty, I am low confident, but at the same time, while I'm low on confidence with my boxing and stuff,
I don't know, I just,
like I said, like, I've all, my life,
my life for the majority of it was a bit of a struggle,
like never had much, never did this and that,
but I just always found a way,
I always found a way to like, to have something that I know that makes any sense but like you know I
could I don't know I've always just been like one of them guys like you know
how you're at school and you're the big groupie getting trouble I've come out
of it smiling roses me like I was like guy like born lucky
get away I don't know what it is like just a lucky guy really always been lucky and it's better to
be lucky than anything else I think so I'm just a lucky guy really I've got great support and
and I did think I'd come back I did a post post, I think in 2021, I think, after I came back in the four rounder,
and I said I'll headline the O2 again.
And I believed it.
And I didn't know how I was gonna do it,
because I couldn't see how I could beat anybody any good.
But I still thought I'd do it.
I don't know, I don't really know.
Not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not good at much, but I'm not,
that's the thing with me, like,
I'm not really good at anything, but I'm good at doing things and maths.
And maths, all right, all right. I wasn't expecting that one, but...
I'm like a mathematician, genuinely a mathematician.
Wow, all right.
That's what I do, that's my secret trick. That's what I go to.
Like give me two numbers and I'm there, boom.
36 divided by 4. That's 9, but I'm there, boom. 36 divided by four.
That's nine, but I'm talking, I'm a high level guy.
I'm a high level guy.
Why?
Like that's something.
By the way, that was very quick.
That was very quick.
That was very quick.
I thought I was giving you a decimal on that.
I'm a maths guy, like genuinely,
mathematician levels of maths.
81 times two.
162. Yo, okay. Yeah, like no, no, I'm a serious maths guy 81 times 2. 162.
Yeah, like, no, I'm a serious maths guy, like, honestly.
364 divided by 6.
364 divided by 6?
60.75.
Alright, you're killing it.
It's a difficult question.
You're the man, Dave.
This was a great chat. Congratulations, all the best to you, and looking forward to throw you off. You're the man, Dave. No, this was a great chat.
Congratulations.
All the best to you and looking forward to what you do next.
And I think you can get back to the O2, all right?
Stop being so down on yourself and self-deprecating, although that's your charm.
I like that about you.
It's his charm.
I'm just going to say right now, we're going back to the O2.
Hell yeah.
All right.
There you go.
There you go.
I love it.
Thank you, Dave. Have a good night's rest. All the best. Cheers, Dave.
Thank you. Bye bye everyone. Bye bye. Bye bye. The one and only, the white rhino, Dave Allen.
Hey, was that correct? That maths? Was that correct? I don't know. I was just trying to stump him.
And 364 divided by six was, it was right at 60.75. Was it right guys? They're efforting. Well, let's do it.
Right.
Okay.
So he got it right.
He got it right.
Oh, wow.
Shout out.
Shout out to them.
We've been lucky to have a lot of great chats on this program.
That might've been my favorite one.
Yeah, that's, that's, that's what a character there's that I'm trying to think there's that
and the corner been one, they're both, both quite close.
But Dave's just incredible. No
airs and graces, just who he is. And that's why he's lovable. That's why people feel like
they can relate to him. I'll just put the kids away. People can relate to that kind
of stuff. You know what I mean?
He always looks disheveled. He always looks kind of like...
He always looks like he... Yeah.
Yeah.
You know his nickname is the Don Castor De La Hoya?
Man, that's a tremendous nickname
Around these parts. We just call him the white rhino. But yes, I did see that as well
Hey, let's stick with the heavyweight theme here and also with the theme of like how do you match?
Prospects we got Moses Atama fighting for the first time on the zone this Saturday on a Queensbury card headline by Josh Taylor and
Unfortunately some breaking news,
he will not break Mike Tyson's record,
because I have it right here.
Mike Tyson won his first world title at 20 years and 145 days old
with his second round KO victory over Trevor Burbeck in November of 1986.
Moses is currently 20 years and 11 days old as of today.
So to break the record,
Moses needs to fight for and win a world title
on or before May 21st, 2025.
That ain't gonna happen.
That ain't gonna happen.
All right?
So what do you, regardless of that,
do you like the way he's being booked?
I kind of felt like he lost a little momentum.
I would have never thought that he would
have his first fight in 2025 in late May. I thought we'd see him a little bit earlier
But there they obviously have something and everyone thinks that he's going to be the future certainly of the British boxing scene
And maybe just a heavyweight scene
You know all together
How do you feel about the way they're matching him up now?
Um, I like it. I think he's look Frank Warren has been known to match fighters correctly. He rarely gets it wrong
Most times nine out of ten Frank kind of gets it, right?
So I'm gonna kind of believe in what they're trying to do with him
I like the idea of him not breaking Mike Tyson's record. There was a talk sort of last year about okay
Let's just push for a wild title fight. Why are we doing this. There's no need to do this. He's a young prospect.
He's someone that I think will dominate the heavyweight division in years to come.
I hear so many sparring stories with him.
Guys that I know that have sparred him and have been honest about how that spar played
out and these are like known heavyweights.
I'm not going to mention names, Ariel, before you ask me to.
So he's really full of, honestly, he's really full of. It is a shame that there has been a gap since the Dempsey McKean
fight because that was an incredible performance, but let's see what you can do on Saturday.
He's almost now got someone to compare with cause Gassie have fought below gun who is
fighting on Saturday and stopped him. I think in the first round or the second round. So
let's see if you can better that. And then I'm hearing crazy names back in the 2025. I mean, that crazy name, that Boccoli's name has been mentioned.
You know, Martin Boccoli.
Is that too soon though? Is that too soon?
I don't know. I mean, they're going off how Boccoli looked last time out 300 pounds and
struggled. I fought to a draw against FAA Jaguars. They're probably thinking, let's
do it. I think it's too soon. But every time I say that people shut me down because everyone
thinks this guy is the real deal. Like they think he's ready to go now. I spoke to Garif
Davis, a friend of ours and he was like, I said, Garif, could he beat Joseph Parker right
now? He said, yes. What? He said, I said, okay, I said, could he be Daniel Dubois,
the current IBF-Hemingway Corps champion right now?
Garif was like, yes.
Wow.
I was going to suggest-
This is what people are saying.
I was going to ask you, how about Moses versus Dave Allen?
Moses is considered-
You're talking Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois.
He's like-
Yeah, no, he's crazy.
Yeah, 10 levels above.
You never know, right? You never know. Yeah, yeah. like, yeah, 10 levels above.
You never know, right?
You never know.
But Dave has this way, right?
I mean, one thing we haven't seen with Moses is him get hit on the chin.
We haven't seen it yet.
So I mean, it's all good.
He looks flashy, he's fast, he's got everything.
He's got the whole package.
But can he take a crack?
Dave, we know can take a crack.
I've seen Dave get cracked by the best punches in the world and not fold.
Can Moses?
But yeah, they'll be looking way past, and I mean, no disrespect to Dave Allen, but they'll
be looking way past Dave Allen.
Sounds like a next opponent.
Sounds like it.
All right.
That's this weekend.
Want to talk about a massive story that is still developing.
I mean, it could change in the next 10 minutes, and that is the saga that is Canelo versus
Crawford. And I say, I say saga, and it's not really fair to say that because up
until this point it's been pretty neat obviously like the making of the fight
it was on it was off who knows what was real what wasn't but once Canelo Alvarez
beat William Skull a couple weeks ago Crawford's in the ring everything's
good they announced it September 12th Las Vegas Allegiant Allegiant Stadium, Dana White, TKO promoting it.
The only thing they didn't announce was the platform, but it seemed to be the worst kept secret that it was going to be on Netflix.
All's good. Here we go. One of the biggest fights of the past few years, right? Certainly here in America.
And then slowly but surely it starts to seem like okay, they haven't announced the platform there was this big Netflix upfront, which is a a
big event that
Networks broadcasters put on here in America to let advertisers know what's coming up
In in the in the next few months in the coming year
There was some talk that there was going to be an announcement that they were going to be there Canelo Crawford that Dana White was going to be there.
They were going to announce that it's going to Netflix to date all that stuff and more. It came and went. It didn't happen.
Then Turkey Al-Shaykh
announces that the fight is being moved from September 12th to September 13th, which was interesting because
Noce UFC, a pay-per-view event in Guadalajara is happening on September 13th the 12th and 13th made a lot more sense
Then he tweets out on Sunday that the promoter is going to be Sela
Sela is obviously the promotional arm of Riyadh season
But when they announced the TKO boxing deal Sela was a part of it as well
So does that mean that he goes a lot of questions a lot of unanswered questions at this point you know we've been led down a path and then a left
turn here and then a right turn here not really sure what to make of it all though
the one thing that does give me pause though are a to suggest that something
is going on is the day change right if they stayed on September 12th I would
say all right it's all gonna work out.
But going head to head with a UFC pay-per-view,
and this is supposed to be the first major event
promoted by Dana White, boxing event,
gives me a little bit of pause.
What do you make of what's transpired
over the last few days here regarding this fight?
Yeah, I think the first,
and probably the most important thing,
because there are a lot of fight fans
that are now starting to jump to conclusions
that maybe the fight doesn't even happen. And I'm
like, Oh, one second, I still believe the fight is going to happen. As you say, it's
the biggest fight, at least in America. One of the biggest fights in the last decade,
I think Canelo versus Crawford is always going to do big numbers and it's going to be a massive
event when it does happen. But I am starting to kind of see, okay, are there problems behind
the scenes that we're not aware of? As you, As you say, I mean, TKO was this big thing with Dana White, Nick Khan and Turkey.
All of a sudden, Turkey's announcing it's now going to be a seller, Riyadh season pay-per-view.
So like, okay, one second, where's TKO? I mean, I saw the photo as everyone did with
Dana White, Canelo and Crawford. So I assumed Dana White was the promoter like most
people have now it doesn't look like that's happening. I assumed it was going to happen at
the Raiders Stadium. I'm hearing that maybe won't happen as well. So there's clearly sort of things
that need to be ironed out behind the scenes. I always do wonder with big events like this,
did they just press the go button too soon before everything was finalized?
Out of excitement more than anything.
Okay, let's just, we'll press it and we'll figure things out.
And now all of a sudden, okay, maybe that wasn't figured out.
But I think the most important thing, the most important takeaway is that nothing has
changed with regards to Canelo versus Crawford.
I don't necessarily mind who the broadcaster is.
I don't really mind where it's going to take place and necessarily
what date.
I just want to see Canelo Crawford and I think that's the biggest takeaway still.
Well, how about this little curve ball from Eddie Herring?
Don't you dare tell me what.
Look, look, look.
He spoke to Marcos Viegas of Fight Hub TV last couple of days and they were talking
about this and all of a sudden threw out, I think a thought that no one had considered
following the William skull fight,
take a listen to this and we shall react.
The timing now, the age, that like, Canelo is amazing.
I mean, not just because of his ability
and what he's accomplished,
but the fact that he still has the desire
for those training camps and those fights,
but I just feel like that desire might
be fading a little bit.
Not because of his love for them but just because of age and like life.
Do you know what I mean?
Don't get me wrong, the Crawford fight will definitely get him up for it.
But I was actually watching that fight thinking I wouldn't be surprised if he retired and actually didn't fight Crawford because I don't think he'll want to lose to Crawford
a much smaller guy just because he's at the end of the road. But the fight's so big and
the money's so big, he's going to have to take it. I bet he retires after that fight.
Okay, so he says he retires. That's big in its own right, because remember he signed
that four fight deal with Turkey. That was part of the reason why he didn't go with Jake
Paul. But what he said prior to that was really alarming to me, retires before the Crawford
fight. Do you think this is a possibility?
There's definitely something there. I mean, if you're, if you are Canelo and you've ticked every single box, I mean, Canelo has
been doing this since he was 15 years of age, 15 years, has 19 years or so of boxing, 19
years of training camps, 19 years of having big fights.
I mean, he's been, he's been at the top of the food chain for the last, what, seven or
eight years, maybe
a decade.
So he's seen it, he's done everything he wanted to do.
I don't know how much this Crawford fight excites him.
Like seeing them in the ring together, sort of nose to nose in Saudi, I'm like, this is
big for Crawford, because Crawford hasn't had many of these enormous fights, right?
I mean, you can count on one hand how many big fights Crawford has I mean Canelo's had at least 20
Like Canelo's sold out the T-mobile arena. I can't think how many times he's had the big fight back home in Mexico
He's now did the fight in Saudi Arabia. So he's ticked that box of having a fight abroad
Cowboy Stadium
He's done it all right. He's done it. Oh, yeah exactly the Cowboy Stadium against Billy Joe Saunders. He's been um, he's become undisputed
He's been pound for pound number one for several years. He must have
Hundreds of millions in the bank. So yes, it's a big fight deal and a lot of money
He's making with Turkey, but he's got how much money do you need?
So I don't think that he walks away before this fight happens, right at the very least
He does this one and then maybe walks away
if it does end up on a massive platform and with the money involved and what this would
mean for the sport and for his legacy, like, I mean, that fight is in what, four months?
I can't imagine him walking away after all that. After everything that just went into
all of this, right? All the drama, the face off, all that.
What, what, what, okay. What's the biggest motivation? Removing money.
I know that's always the biggest motivation for fighters, but what's the secondary motivation to fight Crawford?
What is it? Is it legacy?
I mean, does beating Crawford increase his status in the all-time great pound for pound list?
By jumping up two weight classes?
The talk when this fight was being bandied about a couple years ago was he wasn't interested because he wouldn't get the credit, right?
He would be a bully. He'd be fighting a guy who's you know, several weight classes below him
So that's always been a thing, but you know, he's the one who coined the the payday phrase
so first and foremost, it would have to be the money payday payday and
Second of all, I mean, what's a bigger fight than this one out there for him at this point
That's why the last point that Eddie said is the one that I would subscribe to And second of all, I mean, what's a bigger fight than this one out there for him at this point?
That's why the last point that Eddie said
is the one that I would subscribe to the most,
which is, all right, do this one, win,
sail off into the sunset.
There's literally nothing else.
He's not gonna get the Bibl fight.
The Benavides fight has come and gone.
What are we doing?
I mean, you wanna do a Jake Paul fight?
I don't know if that will ever happen.
If he walks away with two fights left on the Riyadh season deal, they're not
gonna let him do that. So maybe this is the last one, but when he mentioned
retiring before, that coupled with all the stuff that's happening here, it's, I
guess, we thought it would just be smooth sailing, TKO, first show,
September 12, Friday, and
now the waters are a little choppy, which makes it fun to sit back and watch and see
how it all unfolds, but definitely did not see this coming after they were facing off
in that ring in the early hours of that Sunday morning in Riyadh.
Yeah, there has to be a stop button for Canelo.
Like whether it's his wife that tells him it, Eddie Reynoso that tells him it, people
that have been around him since the very beginning that have this honest conversation and say,
you know, dude, you know, you have slow to step, but the hunger is not as much as it
used to be the desire.
Maybe people that are in the training camp and say, okay, look, this is what you used
to do in the training camp.
This is what you do now in terms of numbers, right?
Running numbers, sparring numbers.
So that has to be an honest conversation that someone has to have with him and say, dude,
you're still very, very great.
You're an all time great, but you slipped a little bit.
And before you get caught by someone that wouldn't even lace your gloves a few years
ago, maybe it's time to walk.
And that person, by the way, isn't cool for them.
I'm not saying cool for them, I'm saying someone else. So maybe there is a conversation about
him walking away. Um, but I think it will be after a Crawford fight because after that,
and by the way, this applies to Crawford as well. It's not just the Kenyatta thing. It's
for both of them because there are no big, so what's, what's Crawford chasing? There,
there's no one out there for Crawford either. Likewise, no one for Kenado. So I think it could be the last fight that both of them have. And then
I guess there's a conversation with Turkey about the other fights on the deal, because the other
fights were names like Hamza Shiraz and maybe Chris Eubank Jr. I don't know if Kenado gets excited
for those fights. I don't know. This is a guy that's for Gennady Golovkin, Dimitri Bilvo, Floyd
Mayweather. I don't know if you get excited for Eub for Gennady Golovkin, Dimitri Bivol, Floyd Mayweather.
I don't know if you get excited for Eubanks Shires at this stage of your career. So I
think it could be a case of both sort of sell off into the sunset with loads of money and
let us argue about where they are in the pantheon of great fighters.
Well, we hope that fight happens in September. And dare I say we hope that we get to see
Tifimo Lopez versus Butz Ennis in in August because all of a sudden this is starting to feel like a real thing, a real, real thing.
Because there was a press conference last week to announce their July 12 card in New York. Louis Armstrong Stadium, that's the card headlined by Shakur Stevenson versus Williams Apeyda, Hamza Shiraz on there as well against Edgar Berlanga. And then all
of a sudden, Turkey calls in and says like, we want Tio Fimo versus Boots. And then Tio Fimo Lopez
gets on social media not that long ago and said, I just wanted to get on here and let y'all know,
man, it's happening. This fight is happening. Crazy Fimo is happening, bro. Tio Fimo is happening.
147 pound King, we're coming for him. is this really happening is this happening Lopez versus boots at 147 and I
Presume you're interested because I sure as hell I very no very very I mean look
I don't necessarily like people jumping up weight classes just for the sake of jumping up in weight class
But the fact is there are no real obvious opponents for TFEMO at 140.
There aren't let's be honest. So what's he staying there for? He is a good sized 140.
I never thought he was the biggest 140. Bear in mind he used to fight 135. My worry for TFEMO is
that there's no rehydration clause with the IBF situation now for Boots. Boots will be considerably
bigger than Tio Fimo and Boots last time out looked fantastic against Dani Onis. So I'd
make Boots a big favourite but I mean every time Tio's backspin against the wall where
he's not been the favourite, he's found a way to win. I mean I didn't have him as a
wide favourite against Barbosa when he made that look easy. I didn't have a favorite against Vitsily Nemechenko.
He beat him.
I didn't have him a favorite against Josh Taylor.
He beat him.
So he seems to find a way and Tio's hot right now.
Turkey seems to like Tio quite a lot.
And if your boots as well, what you doing?
I mean, you're not going to fight Brian Norman because he's got to fight in Asia.
You're not fighting Barrios because he's fighting, I still can't believe I'm going to say it, Manny Pacquiao.
And then what? You're going to go to 154? Is that at 147?
It's a big money fight. Boots wants the big money fight.
Tio's a great fight. I think it's one that I would like to see happen next.
Pete It's brilliant. It's the type of opponent that Boots has been searching for,
big name opponent who will sell the fight, who will promote it.
Tio It's the type of challenge that Tiofimo has been searching for a big name opponent who will sell the fight, who will promote it. It's the type of challenge that Tiafimo has been searching for.
It's a match made in heaven.
It's the type of fight that we want from both of them, you know, despite the fact that Tiafimo
is moving up to 147 pounds.
And by the way, Boots has hinted that he wants to move up to 154.
Here they are meeting at 147.
So that fight hopefully happens.
What do we make of all this Jake Paul KSI stuff?
Over the last few days, we've seen Nekisa Bedarian
and Mams Taylor going back and forth, back and forth.
Do they not realize that this is what turned them off
from the traditional side of boxing, right?
The negotiation.
Jake telling me yesterday that this has now lasted longer
than the Pacquiao Mayweather saga,
those public
negotiations and so they've gone back and forth with tweets and whatnot.
The silver lining for me in all of this is I feel like they're talking and I feel like
they're getting closer because it was once a time where no one was talking and obviously
that's a bad side.
This feels like there's some engagement happening.
Do you feel like we are getting closer to this fight? Do you care at this point to see this fight?
No, no, I care. I care. I do care. Obviously, look, I spent time in the Misfits world. I
know KSI, I know Jake. I mean, both of them have done fantastic in what they're doing,
their brands. And you mentioned something interesting there. You said this saga has
been going on, if not longer than the Manny Pacquiao Floyd Melvin saga. That saga, yes, went on long, but that saga became the biggest selling fight
we've ever seen. I'm not saying this will do it, but this will do incredible numbers. Sometimes
you have to tease us a little bit and don't get me wrong, these guys have teased us a bit too long,
but all of a sudden now I'd be fully involved. My only worry for KSI is I think Jake's now gone so much better.
I do have him as a massive favorite and not just so much better, so much bigger.
Like Jake now is a big boy.
When these guys were talking about fighting sort of two, three years ago, I was like,
okay, maybe a 185 catch weight.
I don't think Jake can make 185 pounds.
He's thick, he's solid.
So KSI is going to be severely undersized
there. So I think if they are talking, I think that's probably a lot of where the talk is
going. Like, okay, what size are we going to fight at? But yeah, this fight needs to
happen. It's a, it's a huge, I'm telling you now, again, people ain't going to like this.
This is, this is in pay per view numbers, This will do bigger than Canelo Crawford in the UK
Case I isn't as big in in America as he is in the UK in the UK definitely in the UK
I don't know about in the States
Canel Crawford way bigger in the States way bigger. Okay, wait in the UK
That's why I've actually always thought like this fight could go to Tottenham Hotspur or Wembley
Big venue here, but not like a football stadium. You know what I mean? Not a Legion Stadium or somewhere like that
It could do a big venue over here. It's over here. It's a football stadium. Yeah
Like comfort, but I don't know if Jake wants to do that
But they're talking they're flirting he's coming back June 28th
I am concerned we saw KSI at the Times Square card, his hand is still messed up and he was at the Misfits event this past weekend talking
about potentially needing surgery on the hand, so I'm not really sure how that all plays
out. You know, Jake is talking about a lot of big names after Chavez Jr. if he gets by
him. He's talked about Tank Davis, he's talked about Anthony Joshua, he said Alexander Usyk
wants to fight him in MMA. But honestly, after this weekend, the Darren Till fight has become very interesting
to me. Darren Till disposing of Darren Stewart, you know, I know he's not traditional in the
way he fights, but he's a big boy. And I don't know, I feel like it would be quite the scene
them fighting. I'm still not sure about the long black socks, but it's a look.
Yeah, yeah.
And I mean, Darren Till is known, right?
I mean, he's known to the US market because of the UFC run.
He will sell the fight.
I mean, I guess with Jake as well, you're always thinking of, okay, who can sell this
with me at the presser?
And we know Darren Till can do that.
Darren Till will say whatever he wants to say.
I mean, this guy has no filter and he will put on an entertaining fight. This is a risky fight.
We want to see, I think the thing about Jake, everyone's been screaming for Jake to fight someone relatively young, right?
I mean, that's always the go-to when it comes to kind of critiquing Jake, although he does fight young people.
For some reason, people always seem to think he only fights people that are 40 and above, which isn't necessarily true.
Darren Till certainly ticks that box, right?
I mean he's a young guy, I mean the footage there showed he's still athletic.
That wasn't his best performance, but again that was against a former UFC guy.
So I like it.
I mean if they're not going to get anyone in the ring next that they want to, i.e.
Gervonta and certainly not AJ and not KSI. I think Darren
Till's a perfect next opponent even when he gets past Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I think it's
a great idea.
What do you think of Jake Paul versus Tank Davis 195 exhibition about?
What are we doing?
What are we doing?
You don't like that?
I mean, absolutely not. No. No. Can you, I can't even imagine, as soon as I saw this,
I was watching your interview. I was like, I couldn't even picture what Tank would look
like at 195.
I wonder what he walks around at.
What is he, 5'4, 5'5?
Yeah.
I mean, is he supposed to be 200 pounds at 5'4?
Yeah.
I don't know what he walks around at, but 195, I was surprised to hear that.
So let's see.
He probably walks around max 160, max 160.
Maybe there's just a gap and that's why it would have to be an exhibition bout.
He has to fight Lamont Roach again.
If he loses to Lamont Roach, and I know that's a crazy thing to say, but you know what happened
just a couple of months ago, that fight would go up in smoke.
And if there's one thing I think we all learned from, uh, from boxing over the last few months,
don't count the chickens before they hatch. Anytime it seems like there's another one waiting on the other side of a fight,
something crazy happens along the way.
By the way, that July 12th card, it's looking pretty good and I'm very excited to see an event
at one of these tennis stadiums. So that's where the the US Open is held.
The main stadium is Arthur Ashe Stadium. The secondary stadium, which is a little
bit smaller, is Louis Armstrong. That's Louis Armstrong. I went to see a pro
wrestling event at Arthur Ashe. It's configured pretty much the same. You've
been to tennis events and you see like the the seats kind of go down and
there's not a lot of space on the floor, so to speak.
So it makes it very intimate
and it feels like the fans are over the competitors.
I think this is a brilliant venue.
I like this more, they were talking about Central Park
or trying to like, you know, do an event
like they did in Times Square
where you're just trying to like insert something
into an area.
This to me makes a lot more sense.
It's unique, it's different, but it's a proper stadium. This is the AI rendering.
You'll see there like there's not a lot of space on the floor, so it all kind of comes down into the ring.
I think it's actually a brilliant idea.
It's fantastic. I mean everyone is going to have a perfect vantage point.
There's no bad seat in the house and
it surprises me actually considering sort of again different venues that boxing has
gone to in recent years why they've never been a fight at a tennis court. Especially
over here as well like Wimbledon.
Yeah, never?
No, never and Wimbledon's probably used what? One month a year.
Right.
So why not use it? I mean surely even even yet maybe, but surely even rent would be cheap for it because it's never used. It's not used for anything else. So I think it's a great idea. It has a roof as well. Am I right? Did I see a roof? No, no, no.
To the best retractable roof. To the best of my knowledge, no, but I could be wrong about that.
Okay, I thought I saw a retractable roof. If there is a roof great if not then look it's July So the weather should be good and it's a fantastic fight card. Honestly. It's one of the best fight cards of the year again
Two main events that's what they're selling it as and then you've got a Puerto Pueblo versus a real Matias on that card as well
David Morel who was fantastic against David Benavides is back. It's a really really good fight card
Intriguing fight card as well. I feel
like there could be a couple of upsets on this one as well. So I'm with you. I'm happy
it's not Central Park because logistically it would have been just a bit too much. Why
are we doing that when we've got great venues? And I think this is a great idea. It's a great
venue.
Okay. I stand corrected. It does have a retractable roof. So good eye on your part. Good eye.
I only go to Arthur Ashe. That's the main venue.
I know. I know. I know. I know. I know you don't do small things. I know you don't do
small stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Pay for those tickets. Hard earned money. No way. No way. Did you
pay for my life? God is my witness. Don't do this. You're going to collapse. Don't do
this. 1000%, 1000%. I am NOT at that level
January against the Pelicans perhaps
May against Boston game six no chance
I am NOT I am NOT there one day one day
But now that those tickets are reserved for the likes of Timothy Chalamet and bad bunny and action Bronson and stiller
likely and all those guys fat Joe fat Joe
Was fat Joe wearing by the way?
Did you see that? I don't know. He had like this, I don't even know. I don't know about
what is that look. I can't even describe it. Okay. Is that a look or is that like, is he
covering? It's his look. I mean, it's his look. I mean, the look can deceive me. I think
it deceived Bronson as well, who just kind of just went past him. Yeah. Yeah, he did.
Like what is it? Yeah. Little red Versace riding hood. Like what's happening here?
Careful, careful. He's New York royalty. I know, I know, I know. Make it out of your studio.
I just don't know what the look is. I just don't know what the look is. I was
confused by it. At first I thought it was like a 75 year old grandma from Poland
and I was like, holy shit, it's a fat Joe. Wow, crazy. Amazing, amazing stuff. All right. We've got a very busy weekend of fighting right here on Dazone. We know
about a Friday and Saturday card, which I'll remind you about in a moment, but I did want to
highlight a great cause that is happening this Thursday, May 22nd. It's a card that will air
right here on Dazone. It's by 555 Media and the card is entitled,
Championing Mental Health, a night of boxing. Tickets on sale now
in Hollywood, California and they're putting together this card.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, Adé. And so this is for a great cause and I
love the fact that it's airing right here on Dzone. Some great young
talent, some local talent on the card. on them I shall be watching and supporting this Thursday on Friday we've got a by
the way which one are you going to are you going to this card Friday or are you
going to the very card on Saturday back and don't cast her on Friday I'm going
to the Queens be card on Saturday but there's a lot of people on that Saturday
card we're thinking of driving down to this one just to watch it and then driving back up. It's about, I think about a two and a half
hour drive so I might be part of that gang as well that goes and watches that and then obviously on
the Saturday to do this. What a time man you guys have so many cards to go to we get nothing. It's
crazy. And this is Saturday. I mean this one I, at the Hydro Arena, SSE Arena in Scotland, Scotland doesn't get many big fights.
Obviously, I mean, Josh Tate has been the guy before Josh Tate was Ricky Burns.
There have been some, you know, some good Scottish fighters in recent years,
like Lee McGregor is on the poster.
A good one. But in terms of filling out the arena, there hasn't been that many stars.
So hence why we've not had many big fights in Scotland.
So they've been waiting.
This is going to be a really loud, fights in Scotland. So they've been waiting and this is gonna be a really loud busy noisy crowd because
they've been desperate they've been jealous they've been seeing fights in
Manchester and in London and in Belfast they're like what about us? You get it on Saturday.
Yeah Josh Taylor is always a great scene Moses is going to be on that card as
well, Moses Talma. So to me he is must-see TV and don't blink because
his fights generally don't last very long. All right, speaking of which, time now for everyone's
favorite second one of the week. It is time for our parting shot presented by no one. No, they've
come and gone. We were on a run. We're one second away. We're final destination. It's over. It's
in cinemas now. It's already out. They don't need us. They want an extra push. They don't want an
extra push. They don't need us. But we do hope that everyone goes out and watches it some
great finishes over the weekend what do you what do you think any guess if it's
not Dave Allen I'm walking away Dave Allen
George Litter no no no oh oh what do you think what do you think I am going
to go with Dave Allen I mean that that body body head has to be.
It's an obvious one and of course we go all the way to Brazil down south to Brazil
where Antonio Ogerio Nogueira the former pride of UFC.
Great look at this it gets an influencer. The influencer's name Fabio Marquez aka
Tara Lafelas. He fought him he came out of retirement at 48 years young
to fight the viral fitness influencer.
I'll just call Fabio.
Why would anyone pick Noguera?
And knocked him.
Isn't that crazy that is?
Can we see it one more time?
One more time.
I just want to see that again.
Little Nog.
Bold spot and all.
Bang!
Left hand from hell.
I know, you know, dude,
it actually looks in good shape for me. Yeah, he does know, you know, dude, it actually looks in good shape.
Yeah, he does.
He does, shout out.
It actually looks in good shape.
I can't believe anyone would even pick him.
Like, is this guy crazy?
This Fabio Tabla fellow, is he crazy?
He looks fantastic.
Come on, it should have been Dave Allen.
But it's a good spot, I'll give you that.
I know you like to be a bit niche.
It's a good spot, but it should have been Dave Allen.
I appreciate that. He looks great, but not as good as my favorite fighter in yours.
This is the real parting shot. Have you seen how Christian M. Billy looks these days?
Have you seen Christian M. Billy? I mean, look at this guy.
Oh my God.
Look at this guy. You wish you had abs like that.
That is insane.
Returning to 27. You know, it's late over here. I was going to eat, but I'm not eating now. You can't. You can't after that. That is insane. Returning to 27. You know it's late over here I was
gonna eat but I'm not eating now. You can't. You can't after that. What's that caption say?
I might just do some abs. What was that caption? Every drop of sweat is another brick in the wall of your
success. Oh my lord. Oh my I am teaming. That is getting on my wall. By the way, you know why Canel's retiring?
Because of that, because of those abs right there.
I mean, exhibit A.
Yeah.
I love that guy.
Can we put it up again?
Can we see it?
Can I see it one more time?
Like his waist must be like 26, there's nothing there.
Crazy.
It's one of the all time great weights.
Look at the shoulders to waist.
Look at that, he's got big thighs.
You know what?
This is a ridiculous shape. Is he boxing or going on the Mr. Olympia stage? Look at the shoulders to waist. Look at that. He's got big thighs. You know what? This is a ridiculous shape.
Is he boxing or going on the Mr. Olympia stage?
Look at this.
Or Love Island.
Yeah. Yeah.
He has a career.
Too hot to handle?
No.
All right, here we go.
It comes out.
All the TV you're really watching.
We're coming out now.
He returns action June 27th, top ranked card.
And he looks tremendous as always. That's my now. He returns to action June 27th, top ranked card. And he looks tremendous, as always.
That's my guy.
All right. We're out of time, Adé.
Great show, as always.
Thank you very much to Dave Allen.
How about Dave Allen? What a guy.
And go check out his YouTube channel.
A lot of great stuff.
Very raw, unfiltered.
But there's one video where he's legit driving like this.
It's very uncomfortable because he's holding it up.
Are you reporting him to the police?
No, it's on his YouTube channel.
All you got to do is look at his YouTube channel.
How do you know who's doing that?
How do you know who's doing that?
I mean, it's very clear.
It's very clear from the video.
20,000 subs, shout out to him.
Shout out to him for the big win.
And shout out to Johnny Fisher.
A lot of people probably jumping off that bandwagon.
A year ago, he's knocking people out.
Don't regret it. Don't regret it. And he's he's knocking people out. Never regret it, never regret it.
And he's a good guy. The way he handled it, post fight interview.
Only have love for Johnny Fischer and his family.
Alright, we're out of time. Thank you so much, Adé.
Thanks to all of you for your support. We appreciate you all very much.
Huge weekend, loaded weekend of boxing right here on Dzone.
We'll be back next week to talk about it all. Good night. Thanks for watching!
