Welcome to episode number two of Arion the Brazilian Girl, Arion the Bad Girl, Arion the Good Girl?
We don't know. Feedback for the first installment was fantastic. Thank you very much.
We appreciate all the questions, all the comments, all the love, all the support.
I'm Ariel Hawani. That is the world-renowned, the often imitated, never duplicated, the internet darling, the one and only, Luciana Andrade of Curitiba, Brazil, now residing in Los Angeles.
And we are taping this right before she heads off to her bachelorette party.
Not only have I not received the save the date to the wedding, I didn't get the invite to the bachelorette.
How about that?
I'm not sure you
would love that it's eight girls i feel like it would be a fun time where are we going tulum
mexico is it fun i don't know i've never been is it good there god are you kidding me when is it
not fun in mexico yeah is it like a party town okay um are you nervous are you excited what are the rules for the bachelorette party by
the way is it like like can you do it are there rules no in what way i don't know like what you
and your fiance are by the way your fiance went to the same place okay so his rules are like no
strip clubs no making wait his rules his rules for you or your rules for him okay right right
what am i kidding right right can i tell you something crazy uh i had a bachelor party
obviously a long time ago 2008 how old are you how old am i yeah i'm 40
are you shocked just kidding did you think i was older or younger be honest
i'm just kidding it's okay you thought you were younger actually okay that's a nice thing i have
no wrinkles maybe it's the the canadian yeah or the middle eastern diet are you kosher kosher i
thank you for asking i used to be kosher, but I dropped it when I was traveling a lot.
It was too hard.
I was eating like grilled cheese.
You're no longer traveling.
What?
You're no longer traveling.
I know, but now I just.
Thank you very much.
Did you?
Yes, but I was exposed to shrimp and all this good stuff that I couldn't eat.
And now it's hard to go back.
Yeah.
But.
Shrimp's pretty good. It it is tremendous what else can you
not eat oh you can't have pig you can't have milk and meat at the same time like meaning dairy and
meat you can't have like a cheeseburger and and all the food has to be kosher right like the meat
has to be kosher has to be a special kind of food. It's very, it's very complicated, but the way it is, it's blessed. Anyway, bachelor party 2008. I'm
very nervous because, you know, my brothers are there. It's a little bit awkward. There's all
these people and we're, we're having a nice time, but it's all like building up to the Saturday
night part. And I'm kind of, you know, dreading the fact that i think like we're going to do something
sort of you know sexy you know what i mean if you and so they bring us to the room they bring me to
the room and they're all waiting and they hired like entertainment if you get what i'm saying
and guess what we're waiting we're waiting we're waiting she never showed up she's we're like 15 guys
he stood us up and they paid and she never showed up and i was praying where was it where was the
montreal where i'm from that's why why vegas it would be uh montreal is like the you know the
party capital of canada i don't know if you knew this about like they call it vegas north i've never been to montreal by the way oh my gosh i was just i just i just
i'm teasing no no no no no it's it's a great place by the way you should go in any way i've
been to canada once it was sorry my dog no it's okay listen it was edmonton that is not Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver
those are the top three
anyway I was praying please please please
don't show up and she didn't show up
and I was so happy
most people would be kind of bummed
they were all bummed I was thrilled
so I hope you have the same luck
better luck worse I don't know
I don't know what you're hoping for
actually don't for girls I mean it's what you're hoping for. Actually, no.
For girls, I mean, it's different.
I'm sure some girls have like a mayo stripper or like some funny thing going on.
I don't care. My friend, one of my, you know, my maid of honor asked me about the, you know, the little
guys thing, decoration stuff.
She's like, do you like that?
And I was like, not really.
It's just the little what? What is it it the little dicks stuff you know like oh like the little like toys
now weird i was younger maybe even now i'm like never mind she's like right it's the worst
tradition yes that is silly um all right rules yeah not not many rules i guess obviously just you know
not no cheating you know yes yeah um what happens in tulum doesn't necessarily stay in tulum
as they say yeah yeah yeah yeah i hope if you do anything better you know people in tulum right now
i mean you're fucked. I got sources.
He lives in fear, though.
He's so afraid of me.
Okay, yeah, as he should be.
So we answer questions.
You send them, sub stack, YouTube page.
We answered a bunch.
And Luciana did her homework.
I did not.
And it was a great first installment.
Let's go for round number two.
All right, here we go.
Max, great segment.
Love the idea. What comes to mind when you think of heartbreak and how has it shaped you looking back on it?
This can be romantic, sport, professional, personal, just the biggest gut punch you've
ever experienced. Thank you both. What comes to mind? I guess romantic heartbreaks. I don't have
that many heartbreaks. i don't think that
but we all have had some sort of bad relationships maybe not you but you know um and i guess those
those situations kind of shape you and make you learn what you don't want you know knowing knowing
what you don't want you you might not want what you want
you might not know what you want right right uh but knowing what you will not accept might be even
more important than anything because that prevents you from putting yourself in like weird situations
that you know you just can't stand and are toxic for you so i guess for me i had like
some bad relationships in the past that i i got to learn from it okay you know the the
to not do it and even be a better person you know because i'm sure i i've heard people in the past
not intentionally but i did it you know so i guess i i also learned how to be a better version of myself.
One time.
No, it's a great, I mean, that's a very mature answer.
God bless.
I was dating a girl in the summer of 1999.
And we started dating right before the summer.
And then she went to camp.
And then the whole summer, I'm writing her letters. And I'm looking at pictures of her.
And I'm kissing it before going to bed and all this stuff. And then the whole summer I'm writing her letters and I'm looking at pictures of her and I'm kissing it before going to bed
and all this stuff.
And then guess what?
After two months, we didn't see each other.
Didn't speak on the phone
because there's no phone summer camp,
you know, like sleep away camp.
They have that in Brazil sort of.
I grew up poor, Ariel.
I don't know what I'm talking about.
Well, it's a great thing.
It's big in the Jewish community.
She comes back on the day she comes back, she broke up with me.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
How cool.
Poor young Ariel.
Yeah.
Guess what?
We're married.
Touche.
Isn't that amazing?
But yes, it was a gut punch.
And then she, yeah.
Who went after who, I guess?
Well, my wife, we met in the seventh grade when we were 12. And she was obsessed with me. She
loved me. She was obsessed with me. And even in our yearbook, in the seventh grade yearbook,
like her friends, like we had this thing called last will and testament where everyone has to
leave you something. It's like this little thing. So say ariel hawani and they left you like what's your
favorite thing in the world as your as your last will and testament in our yearbook for her it they
wrote ah but i yeah but but i was a 12 13 year old boy who only cared about basketball and football
i didn't really care about girls. So my brother
and his older friends used to tell me all the time, this girl loves you. Why aren't you talking
to her? Why aren't you? And it was, she was very kind of open about it. And I wanted nothing to do
with it. Fast forward. You started this. What do you mean I started it? She liked you. Yes.
Didn't care. And then eventually the table. That's exactly what happened.
10th grade, I found out she was dating someone else.
And then all of a sudden the light went off in my head.
And then I got super jealous.
And then I tried to go after her for a year.
And then we did that thing.
Summer, start, blah, blah, blah.
She goes away, comes back, breaks my heart.
So I had something similar happening to me.
I was, I guess, fifth grade and I never really.
Fifth grade?
Yeah.
That's a little young.
We start young.
My son's in fifth grade.
Well, open your eyes.
Okay.
It's happening right now.
All right.
I was at fifth grade, wasn't even like paying attention to boys.
And then my neighbor was in fourth grade.
There was this boy in her class. And I think I saw him.
I was like, oh, he's kind of cute.
So I decided that I liked him.
And naturally he had to like me back.
Right.
And, you know, like those people that take the buses, you know,
the parents pay for them to like take the school bus, the jobs.
In Brazil, you have to pay for it.
I had to take the public bus.
So I wasn't in that crowd
and the bus would drop her off and then the boy saw every day and i was like in my house he would
like waste and me and never ever made a move wow sixth grade i'm already almost a woman or so i
thought so i moved on this boy poor thing He regretted never answering all my 12 letters that I wrote to him when I was
in fifth grade.
Does he look back?
Does he know, does he know who you are now?
Probably. I think I have him on Facebook.
I have a bunch of people that study with me.
I have a weird memory.
So in Brazil, when I was taking a test, you know, to go to college
in Brazil, it's you have to take a test similar to like LSAT. And you go straight to like,
medical school or law school, whatever, right? So I was taking the test for law school,
I go to the bathroom in a break. And see this girl and i said are you monique
yes and i said well we studied together on the first grade and after the minute i said that i was like well i now realize how awkward this is but you just have to understand that i have this
weird memory i do i remember people like first name and last name when i learned the name yeah
yeah sometimes people introduce themselves and i forget it because i'm not being paying attention to but yeah wow you'd be a good reporter with that in you know like your your
brain um anyway gilbert yo ariel and luciana congrats on the new segment how did y'all become
so close i'm not even sure if we are close and luciana what is your favorite and least favorite
part of being an octagon girl good luck and I hope this segment is fun and as successful as on the nose.
Much love from Casey Gilbert Hill.
How did we become so close,
Luciana?
We're virtual friends.
We're what?
We're virtual friends.
Yes.
Are we close?
I don't know if we're close.
I guess we're,
we're kind of,
we're getting closer.
You guys will be able to watch our friendship.
Just like blossom.
Awesome.
Yeah.
But I will say, I do believe, correct me if I'm wrong,
I'm not really sure how we met.
I think it was actually through Danny Rubenstein.
I was going to say it has to be through Danny Rubenstein.
He knows everybody.
He knows everybody.
But also...
Did you notice Invisible Game in LA one time?
Like LA Angels or something? Yes something yes yes but this is before
that um well actually maybe it was after I really think during the pandemic maybe I think you like
maybe you were kind of lonely a little bit and you're going through a little bit of a rough time
and I was offering some advice to you does any of this ring a bell yeah yes so maybe through that yeah maybe
doesn't seem like it i think we always like like chatted here and there but it wasn't
something like wow we're best friends right well i thought we were okay um
what uh what is your favorite and least favorite part about being an octagon girl
favorite part i guess the traveling right um getting to know different
places and and fans from uh just different backgrounds and cultures and watching epic
fights that's that's the positive part the not so good part is the criticism you know we've talked
about that in the other show where you you know, online people say whatever they want.
They criticize parts of your body that you don't even know about.
Like, I remember when I first started, someone made a comment about my armpit.
I'm like, my armpit.
I wasn't.
I'm like, what?
Yeah.
I don't know how you guys do it. But I guess the criticism, because people will judge you for what you do, for what you wear, for what you say.
And when you don't say, oh, you're too skinny, you're too fat, you're too curvy, you're too tall.
There's always something.
And then there's that group that just criticize you for being a woman.
Right.
So, yeah, that's my mistake.
F them. Yeah. Will will what's up ariel and luciana i'm very happy moderator lewis is coming along for the ride so am i
i'll start one off with something hopefully you haven't spoken about at this point
what was your biggest personal reason to want to be a part of a show like this
well i'll go first since I approached you about
it. A few things come to mind. Number one, I really like interacting with the people. They
really like the segment that I do on my show on the nose. Number two, so basically like when I
left ESPN, I decided that I didn't want to work exclusively for one person. I wanted to basically turn my life,
my career into a pie and give a slice to this person, a slice to that person. I wanted to be
independent Helwani, independent Ariel. And I wanted to be able to do my own thing and just
work with multiple people and have the freedom. But one really important thing for me was to
resurrect my YouTube channel because I had it for a long time, but it was 10 years ago
since I last used it. And I wanted to start using the YouTube channel as a place where I got to do
other things like mainly, you know, non MMA things, non combat things to show people a different side
of me that I'm not just the MMA guy, right. So that has been the thing that I've been doing for
the past year and change. And when you were on, I liked the dynamic.
I thought it was good.
I thought it was fun.
And I'll be honest, I grew up listening to someone called Howard Stern.
Do you know who Howard Stern is?
No.
Oh, my God.
You've never heard of Howard Stern?
All right, guys.
Howard Stern is the greatest interviewer of my lifetime.
He's the greatest broadcaster in my opinion of my life
well first you're older than me by what and i'm born and raised in brazil so no but he's an icon
references are different do you know joselad is from brazil no i know but howard stern is like
world renowned anyway he's unbelievable you look him up and you'll see okay now the thing about
howard stern is uh actually in the 90s
there's a great movie called private parts you should watch it it's about his life um it's great
and i'm sure your fiance has heard of him and the movie but he was a very um you know he was very
risque he was very raunchy like he would talk to porn stars he would talk to people about sex on
the radio and he would get in trouble for this. But so when people think of Howard Stern, especially in the 90s, they think of that.
To me, he was like the best interviewer, the way he got people to break down and let their
guard down and all this stuff.
And he always had a sidekick who was a woman.
Robin was her name.
And I always thought that that was brilliant on his part because most male broadcasters
don't have a female sidekick, co-host, if you will, because for whatever reason, and
it doesn't allow them to bring a certain side of themselves out.
And so this is something I've always wanted, but I never really had a female co-host sidekick.
And I was like, you know what, let's give this a go.
So there's my long answer as to why I was interested in doing this.
I think it could be a lot of fun.
And I think this is the perfect
avenue for it yeah long answer indeed because i almost forgot wow no i'm trying to get all like
sentimental here um okay so i'll try not to give as long as I can. Oh, geez. Your answer last week on deforestation was 17 minutes long, I counted.
Well.
You're reading off a script, too.
It's a sensitive issue.
Yeah, sure, sure.
I guess it's trying something different, right?
I feel, you know, growing up with the background I had, my parents had the best of intentions, but I feel I didn't get exposed to all the things.
And I sense that I, it was almost as if I was, I had a schedule, right?
Like go to school, then, you know, go to college, then get a job, then find someone, get married, have kids kids like that thing and i guess part of me becoming a ring girl ring girl
was um a rebellious act on my part of like hey i'm doing this which is completely the completely
opposite of what everyone would expect of someone like me especially because i wasn't like oh a
model not i'm not saying i feel like the ring girls are not necessarily like top models,
like Victoria's Secret.
We're the girl next door.
Right.
Right.
So I guess it was it started like that.
Let me do different things each time.
And then losing my dad in 2020 kind of gave me this perception of, you know,
everything can happen and can end tomorrow,
because it was just like that, right? Like completely unexpected. And, and it made me
think about my own mortality. So I guess because I feel now that, hey, everything can end in a
second, in a heartbeat, maybe you should just be more adventurous. And of course, I still have to be responsible and pay bills and be a respectful person and
help my community and be a good citizen.
But ultimately, I guess it's someone calling me.
I don't know about you.
What a time to call.
Yes, it's doing something different.
And who knows what's going to come out of it.
But at least I'll get to say, hey, you know what?
I had a show at some point.
Yes.
Hopefully, if you don't decide to quit after two weeks.
We're going to be like so famous.
Oh, my God.
Can you imagine?
Yes, it would be great.
I think we could.
And we'll take the show on the road and we'll do it in studio.
It's going to be fantastic.
Right?
Yes. This is the beginning of something great uh david hey ariel and luciana very happy to see you two collaborating and by the way i think what the beauty of this is if i may say
so myself i think people would never have expected this collaboration and that's what makes it
quite unique yeah just when they think they have yes just when they think they have all the answers
we change the questions that's you see uh no point beating around the bush so here are my questions
luciana did you have to get me no one wants to hear from you if you well they hear from me enough
uh did you have to get permission from the u to work with Ariel? Okay, not really.
So technically, I am an independent contractor, so I don't have to ask them, but I did it anyways.
Out of respect, I have a relationship with the company for almost nine years.
So I did ask Dana, and he was like, no, you can do whatever you want.
He did appreciate me asking but you know
they're super supportive and they have you asked him specifically yeah yeah i didn't know that
yeah they have been supportive of me and the other girls as well in yeah no they're they're just
great did he say why would you want to work with that scumbag or something like that or no
no he didn't say anything he was like whatever you want but he appreciated me asking i guess you know it's a nice thing to do yeah wow that actually warms
my heart maybe there's hope that we could be friends again maybe um you know maybe i'll be
i'll be the bridge you could imagine out of everyone who's tried and trust me people have
tried but yeah no but he's so nice i i know you know whatever yeah but i i have no no complaints
like the company always treated me with respect so yeah that that was a i guess my way of saying
hey you know what are your thoughts and they were totally fine so okay uh so i guess and number two
kind of you know you kind of answered it if if dana throws a stink these
are his words will you end this collaboration but i guess it's not going to be an issue no i don't
think so yeah all right um i'm happy to hear that that's actually the nicest thing i've heard all
day yeah good good i'm happy to deliver it and the you know can i be honest i think deep down
dana actually likes me.
I hope he does.
And maybe secretly you love him too.
You know what?
Maybe.
Maybe.
He's just, you know, it's a different kind of love.
Jackie.
Hello, Luciana and Ariel.
I'm a big believer in seminal moments. The one event in your life that seriously altered the trajectory of your ambitions and aspirations. I once believed I was going to enlist in the Army, or excuse me, the Marine Corps, until a professor took me aside
and encouraged me to pursue a career in publishing. I wonder for the two of you, what's one moment in
your lives that you can point to that seriously changed your fate, be it personally or professionally?
Much love, Jackie. I could go first if you want. I remember being in the ninth grade and I was reading a magazine called Sports Illustrated.
And it was a magazine that said, these are the best schools in America for X, Y, and Z.
And there was a little blurb that said Syracuse University was the best school for sports
broadcasting.
And a light went off in my head and I was like, wow, you could go to school to be a
sports broadcaster? That's incredible. And so I decided I told my parents, I'm going to go
to Syracuse University, I'm going to be a sports broadcaster. If I don't read that, maybe I come
across that information later in life. But I feel like that was a major turning point in my life.
Wow. That's nice. I think for me, it was moving to the US probably. Yeah. Because that's when things ultimately changed.
I decided to, hey, I'm going to be in the US for a vacation.
And things started happening.
And here I am now.
So I do believe that there's always that moment.
Do you think that's destiny?
Or you create your own path?
I believe there's a little bit of destiny. I believe there's a little bit of destiny.
I believe there's a little bit of luck.
I believe that the universe tends to reward good people.
So I believe that like karma is a thing.
Like if you put good out there, good comes back to you.
If you're just like a good human, it tends to attract.
So I am very superstitious.
I believe in all that, you know, freaky stuff.
I just, look at that.
How embarrassing is that, Luciana?
You're cutting off your library?
No, the screensaver came on.
Sam's Stone Library.
This is the most, this is top three most embarrassing.
This happened to me when I was at ESPN.
I was on SportsCenter live on TV, and the thing went off in back of me.
That's why I'm on it.
I'm like, hey, guys, this is my basement.
I might be in jail.
You will never know.
Is this your basement?
No, it's not a basement, actually.
It is my study room.
Okay.
Just that I would show it, but it's going to mess with my lighting.
No, it's okay.
No.
But I do have a lot of books on this side, some stuff on this side.
I got to get rid of this dresser.
This is stuff from my previous apartment.
Ah, you just like.
I have a makeup mirror right here that I never, ever used, but I refuse to throw it out.
Why am I such a worker?
Sentimental.
Sentimental.
No, it's because I feel like I'm going to use it.
That's what happens
like when you you're not poor you you you just get you get attached to things it's hard to to
to buy them so you don't want to give them away no i understand i understand um no soup for you
hi guys delighted this is a thing and luciana, you seem great. Here I am getting married later
this year and I'm shitting me jocks, as Connor would say. Ariel, I recall you saying before
you get nervous, tummy trouble before big moments. How do you curb this? The thoughts of 200 people
looking up at you during the ceremony gives me sleepless nights. Cheers, no soup for you.
To be honest, I wasn't nervous before. I
think what makes me nervous is like the attention that everyone coming up to you, you have to make
small talk, you have to say thank you very much. You have to, you know, like that is exhausting.
Yes, that is exhausting to me. But I mean, I get way more nervous doing like shows and interviews
and things of that nature. Are you nervous before? When uh your what do okay can i ask when is the wedding when is the day july uh i'm not nervous about
july what uh fifth july 8th birthday it's a great time he's working hard for them i told you you're
invited well it felt like a bit of a token invite if i'm being honest no i mean it's happening
where i'm working on this friendship we're working on it we're working on it um are you nervous
no no but i i told you like i'm i'm kind of a of an i'm an extrovert so i don't get nervous of
i work as a ring girl i've sure with a bikini so I don't get nervous about everything.
I feel like, for example, the show that I was a part of where I had to translate for Charles, I didn't know what to expect.
It's hard to predict what a person is going to say.
And obviously, I did mess at some point.
I'm not a professional translator.
So that makes me more nervous because there's no way of me preparing for that.
A wedding, I guess, I guess the way I see is all the people that I love, that love me back will be there.
So think about this.
Usually the moments where you get everyone together, people that love you, it's when you you're born but you're too little to know
that right then i'm sure you have birthdays and things like that but the life it's usually a
wedding right and then it's your funeral which is so sad because you're not there anymore so
you really have to enjoy that moment so i guess the way i see is i'm i'm gonna try to make the best of it all the people that i
love is here and happy for me for this moment so sure i don't want to mess with all my pictures
and have like weird faces like right like i'm gonna cry and then like what pictures am i gonna
print if sure sure you know so that's my nervousness i don't want to mess with the pictures with the videos okay i
do i i'm not nervous about walking down the aisle and you know no were you nervous are you ready
no no no it's just like you're kind of nervous about like getting it on getting on with it but
um just have fun man maybe you're nervous about things going well will people like the food no i didn't care
i'll tell you what i hated being engaged i liked i like being married i like dating i didn't like
engagement it's a little gray area why is that well no it's just like the planning the this or
that like all this not help with the planning because a lot of men don't know but maybe in retrospect i
should have yeah so in my case he helps a lot sometimes i wish he wouldn't oh geez just kidding
just kidding very helpful like every zoom call he's there oh my gosh but ultimately he says that
you know do what you want but I guess he's just super excited.
He's super excited about the wedding.
So that's kind of cute.
Yeah, as he should be.
Charlie, I'm excited for this new segment.
Thank you.
My question for you guys is, doing what you love is always encouraged.
And I love sports journalism.
However, the outlook and money to be made in the industry is certainly discouraging.
So the question I have is, at what point is following your dream not the right choice for journalism or in general? Thank
you, Chaz. So I'll just say, like, when I had a job, and I was working at Spike TV, which used
to be the home of the UFC. So I was working in TV production when I graduated. And I was like,
oh, wow, this is like behind the camera. So I thought to myself,
Spike TV is the best place for me to work because I was a huge UFC fan and they were the home of
the UFC. But then I got to Spike TV in September of 2007 and I realized they don't actually produce
any of the events. It was the UFC that was producing the events. So there was nothing
creative about the job. So after one week, I decided to quit. And they got very mad at me. And they said it was the biggest mistake of my
life and that I would regret it. And I was unprofessional, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And I stuck to my guns. And I created a website. And I said, all right, I'm going to give myself
six months to get noticed. And every morning, I'm going to post an interview with a fighter.
And I'm going to show people via this website that I can interview fighters better than anyone. And so I gave myself this hard
deadline and if I, it was October 2007 to April 1st, 2008. And if I didn't get a job by April 1st,
I was going to go back to TV production and that dream would be over. So I think it's important to
give yourself like a deadline, timeline, and not to let it linger,
because if you let it linger, like you're just kind of floating in the air, and you're not going
to accomplish anything. That way, you can stay true to yourself, you can hold yourself accountable,
and see how it turns out.
Good answer.
Thank you. What about you?
I think if the unknown disturbs you more than it excites you, then it's probably a mistake.
If you look at
every successful person out there, they're usually, unless they're pretty lucky and wealthy,
their stories started with a lot of struggles. So it's how they struggle and they had to keep going.
And if you're going to give up, then maybe you're not going to get there. So I guess it's how much do you want it, right? Yeah.
You have to be, you need to be excited about something.
If you're constantly afraid of not making it, then maybe that's where the mistake, you know, lands.
Very wise.
Juan, Luciana and Ariel, do you ever have conflicted feelings about using social media and the way they sell our personal data?
I don't use social media for my work with the exception of LinkedIn, unlike both of
you do.
At the same time, it's a great way to stay in touch with friends, especially those far
away.
I've been using Be Real, and it's just photos, no ads.
I've never heard of Be Real.
Have you?
No.
All right.
But then, if they have no no ads are they making money on
analyzing the pictures we post curious if you ever think about this and even sharing too much
personal or professional on social media what do you think i think about it all the time if you
look at my social media i'm very inconsistent i post and then i don't post for like six months
or three months at a time i post a lot stories, but usually the animals that I have around the house.
So, yeah, if you watch the Social Dilemma, the documentary, it makes you want to burn all the electronics and go live in a cave.
And I feel at this point, if you own a smartphone, you basically already sold your life the artificial intelligence
so advanced right now that basically we're having a conversation i say oh i need to buy a wine glass
and then next day or same the next hour i start getting ads about wine glass it's crazy you know
that's how it works so even though i don't know, this be real, I'm sure whenever you sign, the small print, the fine print, when you agree with the terms, there's something that they spy on your text messages, whatever.
At this point, I feel the AI knows better than ourselves than we will ever know.
So it's tricky.
There are studies about connecting unhappiness to social media usage.
Because think about it.
You see people, everybody's so beautiful, everybody's so happy.
And you get a sense that, oh, my God, I don't look like that.
The filters mess you up so bad.
I try not to use them because of that.
And you get a feeling that, oh, I'm not, my life is not as fun as Ariel's, you know,
then you get, you feel unhappy and it's just, it's, it's this never ending cycle. So especially for young kids, right?
For teenagers.
So I, I try not to use it as much.
Of course I use my phone.
It's so hard to break the cycle right now because everything is so digital.
Like you go to store sometimes, depending on the store, they are not even accepting cash anymore.
Right.
Oh, you know, if you don't have your car, you use your pay.
And yeah, I do.
I do have internal conflicts about it, but it's it's really hard to to break.
And unless you leave like a farmland and survive of, you know, you plant your stuff and you don't depend on anything.
It's just really hard to to not be involved with anything.
Even LinkedIn is still a social network. Right.
Your clicks, they see your interests if your your search engine right you
you look for you know flies to italy tomorrow then google whatever communicate and then the
the prices go up the more you click they keep going up and you're like why are you doing this
to me the algorithm yeah by the way do you not have a phone case i broke my phone wow look at this
but wait you don't have a case everybody says that i like to what's the point of having such a
free pretty phone if i can show it off but well that's the point what just happened
look at it look at this whoa what was that i didn't even press anything it's
crazy this apple watch oh my god what did you say here's what i found wow
she's trying to send you a new phone sketchy yeah you deserve time for a change i made a
fun of me i guess i posted a picture stories or something the person wrote time for a change i made a fun of me i guess i posted a picture stories or something and the
person wrote time for a new phone yes i just didn't have the time it wasn't me my fiance
dropped it oh it's his fault when we were in rio accidentally obviously then i guess that says a
lot about me and my procrastination because that was in January. Now in March, almost April.
All right. King Tyler. Hola, Luciana. Bienvenido a nosa comunidad. That means welcome to our
community. Hello, Ariel. One question for each of you. Luciana, Ariel has often spoken about his
social anxiety and confidence issues. How do you have the confidence to take on such a public facing role?
What advice do you have for nerves before big moments that will be seen by millions? I mean,
I feel like you kind of answered this a little bit. You just don't get nervous, right? Like
you're just that. I don't get nervous, but also I'm all about faking it until you make it.
I remember when I was in college one time, I would, you know, I had an internship work all day and then law
school was at night. So I went there, forgot, completely forgot, mess up with the dates. I had
an important presentation, group presentation that day. And I'm like, God damn it. I didn't prepare.
So I panicked, memorized two paragraphs of the thing in like, I don't know, five minutes or so
less than that. And then i went there said
those paragraphs while walking like with this confidence you know and then after that i would
just i was just blabbing and then later on my colleagues said oh you did so well and i was like
what in the hell so anyways even because i do have bad days you you know, I traveling every time I go to Vegas, I feel like
the water, there's something diet, whatever. I feel so bloated, my face, whatever. So even though
I'm not feeling at my best, I walk around as if I'm Giselle Bündchen and I have no cellulite.
Yes. Who cares? You know, if you let it get to you you then you're just gonna like sink amen so that's what i do
fake it until you make it no one's gonna we think people are no are paying attention so much
attention to us but in reality we're all like self-conscious about what's you know what where
are people gonna think and at the time, everybody is thinking about themselves.
And so stop stressing, just, just do it.
No one cares.
No one cares.
He also asks Ariel, Ariel, Luciana mentioned that she would like to break into broadcasting.
She's very well positioned given that she already is working for the UFC and her name
is known.
What advice do you have for her to start breaking into the broadcasting world?
Thank you both boa sorte a voce good luck to you okay uh do you want to break into broadcasting
i would love that i just feel and that's a little insecurity you see i have it too
because you know let's let's say it's a broadcasting in u.s that means in english
english is my second language that means i have an accent that means it's broadcasting in the U.S. That means in English. English is my second language.
That means I have an accent.
That means it's not perfect.
That means, you know, my thought process is different.
I have to translate things sometimes in my brain.
And that doesn't come with the same speed that, you know.
Right.
Yeah, I have.
So I would love to do that. But I know, I'm well aware that I'm not in the same level that people like you and others, you know.
Yeah, but this is it. This is your foray. I know you've dabbled a little bit here and there, but nothing, no opportunity like this. I mean, this is the big leagues. This Zoom thing with me is the big leagues. So, and I mean, and the amount of money that you're making off this is nuts
it's crazy oh my god speaking about it so out there yes oh yes anyone let us know uh they're
gonna come in or email or how how do people reach out nowadays i guess if they want to sponsor us
they slide in the dms which i'm sure I'm sure your DMS are a mess.
So I don't know how you like,
are they a mess?
I would imagine.
Not really.
People were always,
I mean,
I'm,
I'm in a relationship now,
but even before that,
people were always so kind to me.
I talk about the hate,
but that's,
you know,
usually at the UFC page or people are kind, right. But people are kind to me.
Okay.
Yeah.
Good to know.
King Zalo, Ariel and the Bad Girl, hope all is well.
Congratulations to both of you on this very exciting new journey.
I have a complex inquiry.
I'm a law student from the island of Puerto Rico,
currently in my third year final semester.
As you might know or might not,
opportunities to mix MMA and law in Puerto Rico
are quite limited, I would imagine. I've tried to reach out to many managers, teams, etc. about
potentially finding a role that would help me find this opportunity, but nothing has come in as of
yet. All my Hail Mary emails have been ignored thus far. I guess my question would be, what piece
of advice would you give to someone looking to join the MMA world through law? What steps should
I take in order to try and make this possible?
Maybe the bad girl can help a little more with this one.
Knowing she's in the process of taking slash passing the bar exam,
I would just love a chance, but I'm having a hard time finding it.
Cheers and thanks to you both.
Golly, this is a tough one.
I'd love to know the answer.
I guess I was thinking here, Puerto Rico is technically U.S. territory, right?
Yeah.
I wonder if does that mean he can take the bar anywhere?
Is it an ABA-approved university?
Like, how does that work?
I guess I don't know well enough.
But let's say he's able to take the bar anywhere.
That gives him so many options.
There are companies i guess i would reach out to a sports entertainment attorney it's it's kind of unclear because does he want to work for a
company like ufc and be in-house does he want to be a uh sports entertainment attorney that means
he would represent the athletes i i guess i didn't it's you know what
here's the thing that i would tell him you don't have to be a lawyer to be an mma manager yeah you
don't yeah that's true actually if you're a big mma fan there's no there's no barrier of entry
really i guess it all depends on what exactly he wants to do because he does wants to let's say oh
i want to draft contracts you kind of do need to be an attorney, right?
If you want to be a manager, then no.
Sure, yeah, you don't have to.
It's good that you know the law.
To a degree.
I would use LinkedIn
and reach out to some sports entertainment attorneys.
The good thing is that he's in Puerto Rico,
but a lot of people have been working remote.
So maybe there is a chance, but it's hard, I guess.
Look at the companies, the type of job they would like to have.
Reach out to some people on LinkedIn.
Ask, hey, what are your recommendations?
Can you be my mentor?
Can you help me out?
I think you need to be craftier than that.
I think that what most people do is you have to find one guy.
You have to find a fighter.
And then you have to convince that fighter to hire you as your manager.
Every manager in MMA that I know of, they started with one guy.
And then that guy wants to be a manager, right?
Yeah.
Isn't that what he said he wanted to do?
I don't know.
I didn't quite understand.
I got a feeling that he wants to work with law and MMA.
So, yeah.
Anyway, God bless you.
Good luck to you.
Yes.
Alex, on Monday, prior to going with my fiance to pick up our wedding bands, I was watching the MMA Hour and it occurred to me you don't wear a ring.
I think he's talking to me.
Is there a reason as to why?
Yes, that is right.
No ring.
Do you want to know why? You lost it? I guess you do want to me. Is there a reason as to why? Yes, that is right. No ring. Do you want to know why?
I guess you do want to know.
No.
I have never worn jewelry.
I don't have a watch.
I don't have a necklace.
I got nothing.
I've never been to jewelry.
Don't have earrings, nose ring, tongue ring, nothing.
And I wore the wedding ring for one week.
And it felt like it weighed 100 a weight a hundred pounds and it
was bothering me and i just said do i have like what do i need to wear this for why do i need to
show the world in no other decision that we make in life do i need to tell the world constantly
24 7 that i have made this decision why do i need to tell you guys i'm good she knows i'm good she
like us and she didn't care and so was it. How would you feel about this?
Personal decision. I mean, I feel like every time...
If your husband-to-be said, I don't want to wear my wedding ring.
I mean, I want him to be comfortable, but I feel like he's the type that wants to wear the ring.
So it's hard. I know some that they they don't like wearing the gold
or you know the jewelry they buy the the flexible ones the the workout is whatever it's called
and it works for them so maybe yeah yeah listen i know there are some people out there that don't
wear it for other reasons i hope everyone believes that I'm not that guy.
I just don't really, I don't know.
I didn't feel comfortable.
I have a feeling that it's funny.
The way we get engaged in Brazil is different.
No one has the money to buy diamonds, for example.
So when you get engaged, it's a gold band.
And we both wear it, but on the right hand.
So you can see if a girl is engaged or a guy is engaged you know that they're engaged because it's on the right hand
then when they get married they they move it to the to the left but i always got the vibe that
when a girl is engaged when men tend to be respectful to it. But women are not, at least in Brazil.
Really?
Yeah.
It's kind of like, oh, if he's taken, that means there's something good about him.
What is it?
Wow.
Yeah.
But women are a little more mischievous. I always have the vibe that women pay more attention when a guy is thinking which is so weird it is weird
that's my perception okay well yeah uh here's the last one from aaron dear miss andrej and mr helwani
wow so formal my question to both of you is how do you politely tell your partner that they take up
far too much space in the bed i've told my partner several times that she has plenty of space and she consistently needs more,
thus affording me less.
Do I suffer on or do I stand or lay my ground?
Very excited for this segment
and fair play to Luciana
on the translating job on the MAR.
Hope to see you both on there again soon.
Respect from Ireland.
First of all,
hope to see you both on there again soon.
You're seeing us on this.
So what's the difference?
In any event, how do you politely tell your partner they're taking seeing us on this. So what's the difference? In any event,
how do you politely tell your partner they're taking up too much space? Do you have this issue?
I feel a lot of couples do. And it's funny because when I saw that question, I had to
double check it was my fiance. Oh my gosh. Could you imagine? We've had these conversations a couple
of times. It's funny. A guy is bigger than a girl. So he thinks that he's entitled to have
more space in the bed. And I'm thinking, why?
You know, half and half equal rights.
Sure.
But I have a tech.
I mean, first off, you should talk to your partner and basically say, hey, this has been bothering me.
And here's why.
Make sure they understand it.
But I have a technique.
Okay.
I'm going to learn about it.
We go to bed usually around the same time, but I lay a technique. Okay. I'm going to learn about it. When you go to bed, usually around the same time, but I lay down before he does.
Cause I have a small, a smaller pillow.
That's, that's what it is.
I have a neck pillow that is smaller than he uses.
So he thinks that that gives me more space, but actually it's still the same, you know,
same space.
I need half of the bed whatever so i lay down and i kind of like position
myself strategically that way i'm already there you can't just cross the borders here you know
but i guess if you can do that then maybe just buy a bigger bed you could buy a bigger bed but
i feel like there's a negative connotation attached to this question you you say or this guy says and you even say like oh they're they're asking for more space
but maybe they just want to cuddle maybe they just want to be closer
oh all right wow do you like cuddling sure why not all night not all night then you go to your
separate ways yeah but that's the thing when you go separate ways there's always someone invading your your your country your territory i'm a deep sleeper she isn't and i the only issue is i tend to take
the covers you should ask her yes yes also says i snore and stuff it's a whole thing but uh i just
feel like look maybe the answer is the the bigger bed but um i would take it as a positive they
want to be closer yeah yeah also i'm a big fan of our kids sleeping in our bed you are yes i love it
oh my god my dream is like all five of us at the same time i love that god you need a huge bed then
i love it no i like being all like when my daughter comes in, it's the best.
She has the Jimmy legs. You know the Jimmy legs? Kicking all the time. She likes to put her like her toe in my belly button. It's bizarre, but it's great.
Enjoy it. I used to do that to my dad too. Dad loved that. I remember my mom was like,
stop moving.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
They get too hot. And then as a kid,, stop moving. Yes, yes, yes, yes. They get too hot.
And then as a kid,
you were like,
okay,
now I'm cold again.
Yes,
yes.
I love it.
All right.
Well,
good luck to you.
That was it for the questions.
Thank you to everyone for sending in,
please in the comments,
subscribe,
all that stuff.
We're going to do a lot more of these unless,
you know,
Luciana gets the call to end it.
They're supportive. I know. Yeah, sure, unless, you know, Luciana gets the call to end it. Wow.
They're supportive.
I know.
Yeah, sure, sure, sure.
Very supportive.
Good luck.
Don't do anything I wouldn't do.
What is it?
No, I said, well, that's pretty much everything.
But, you know, don't get too.
What would you do?
Not much.
Order room service, watch, you know, TV in the hotel room.
But good luck in Tulum, right?
Yes.
Will you see each other there?
Is that weird?
No.
It's different weeks.
Oh, it's different weeks.
Okay, got it.
He's there now.
He's there right now.
It's all the spies out there.
Yes.
Why the same spot?
I mean, we love tropical places. Okay. sisters are in brazil it's too complicated i
didn't want to go to miami i've i've lived there before i go it's all the time so it was hawaii is
too far you know e-business too expensive too far whatever so we decided you know cabo i've been in
a million times so i i wanted to do tulum He wanted to do Tulum too. We settled on different weekends.
It makes it even.
Same hotel?
Same hotel.
Golly.
You guys are something.
All the same.
All the same.
No one will get to complain.
At least it's separate weekends.
We're not doing joint thing.
Yeah, that's weird.
It's fun because it's good because then he'll come back Sunday.
I'm sure he'll be like so freaking sick and hangover.
And he'll get to tell me like, don't go to this place.
Actually, it wasn't that cool.
Okay.
Yeah.
Works out for you.
Yeah.
Good luck to you.
Great job.
I'll talk to you next week.
Safe travels.
All right.
Thank you guys.
Thanks everyone.
