sleep deprived but feeling so good about life it kind of feels like you're on a high i mean i'm not
one to partake in those types of i don't know um psychedelics yes but i do feel like uh i'm on some
kind of high perhaps the type of high that life could present to you if you're feeling good about
things and i'm certainly feeling good about a lot of things going on in this place down over there
in the control room all all over the place.
It feels like we are really all coming together as one.

They're going to be fighting January 18th and really kicking off a very busy January
in the world of combat sports, certainly in the world that we reside.
January 18th, you've got that fight.
You also have UFC 311.
January 25th, we found out yesterday that we are getting Eddie Alvarez versus Jeremy
Stevens, Knucklemania 5.
And we found out this morning, we're getting a huge Bellator title fight. Usman Nurmagomedov defending his Bellator
lightweight title against Paul Hughes. It's Dagestan versus Ireland one more time, part two.
And they should promote it as such, in my opinion. And I'm going to weigh in on that fight
in just a moment. Stick with me. Prior to Darren, Nikita Badarian, co-founder
of Most Valuable Promotions, after a massive, massive week, we told you about the numbers
yesterday, talked to him about the fight, and then what's next come 2025 for the promotion,
and then, of course, for the problem child, El Gallo, Jake Paul, who's next, what's next,
where is he fighting, what platform will he be fighting on. And before that,
we've got an interview that I've been trying to secure for about six months, ever since Gable
Steveson parted ways, somewhat shockingly and surprisingly, with WWE, I've been trying to get
him on the show. But there was a, you know, there was a period where he couldn't speak. Then he got
signed by the Buffalo Bills, my Buffalo Bills.
Then he left the Bills.
Then he was up in the air.
Then he was with Jon Jones.
And then just recently announced that he is going back to the University of Minnesota
one more time to try to win one more national championship.
And he's doing it again.
And it's a sign of the times because back in the day, you couldn't do something like
this.
He is capitalizing on it.
And we're going to get to talk to him in his very first interview since leaving WWE. Remember,
he was an NIL signing for World Wrestling Entertainment. A lot of promise, a lot of hype,
a lot of buzz attached to him. Showed up at WrestleMania, was on NXT, and then poof,
gone. So there's a lot to get to as far as Gable is concerned.
I just want to go back quickly to that January 25 nugget,
Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes.
I thought it was very interesting in the branding of the,
on the poster and in the press release,
I felt, here's the poster,
I feel like the Bellator branding is being minimized.
It's called Road to Dubai Champion Series.
There you see Bellator lightweight title fight.
You see Nurmagomedov versus Hughes.
Dagestan versus Ireland too.
They are promoting it as such.
I think it's smart. January 25th at the Coca-Cola Arena in beautiful Dubai.
You see the belt you take a closer look you look at the press release and it very much feels to me like bellator is
being phased out dubai department of economy and tourism and dubai sports council partner
with the pfl to position dub Dubai as a global hub for MMA.
That's the headline. Groundbreaking multi-year partnership includes Professional Fighters League
staging major annual global events dubbed, quote, Road to Dubai and developing future UAE
champion fighters. Dubai's first champion series world title fight or event will be held Saturday, January 25th at Coca-Cola Arena.
Headline by Usman versus Paul Hughes.
Dubai's first champion series world title event.
It's almost like champion series is the name of the promotion.
And I get what they're trying to do.
They're trying to position it as Champions League. You go further into the press release,
and you see the first of its kind partnership
will see MMA world champions
and the sport's biggest stars from the PFL
compete in title fights as Dubai
becomes a marquee destination for the best of MMA.
All other champion series events
will now be co-branded as Road to Dubai.
As each show culminates to the finale set in the new fight capital as part of PFL's commitment Champion Series events will now be co-branded as Road to Dubai.
As each show culminates to the finale set in the new Fight Capital,
as part of PFL's commitment to developing the sport of MMA in Dubai,
rising Emirati star fighters will now have a pathway to become future PFL champions.
No mention of Bellator in there.
Champion Series is mentioned.
It feels to me like Dubai is paying to call this Road to Dubai champion series,
and they're going to phase it out. Now, I reached out to sources within the PFL, asked them,
hey, what about the Bellator branding? They told me, stand by, more to come. Hey, what about where this is going to air? I noticed no mention of Max in the press release. Stand by, more to come. So these are in the sort of details.
And as they say, the devil is in said details. I think that's really interesting. Obviously,
it feels like the Bellator brand is kind of fizzling out. And what everyone wants
is for it to just be one promotion. Look, I understand why they keep the Bellator brand alive. They could
do deals outside of their UFC deal, excuse me, ESPN deal, no different than when UFC had a deal
with Spike and they bought WC and they put WC on Versus. And so they're now enjoying two revenue
streams when it comes to broadcasting.
That's huge. If you can get it, that's great. Not everyone can get that. You don't think
Matchroom would love to have another revenue stream when it comes to TV. Look at WWE. They've
got their Netflix deal. They've got their USA deal. They've got their CW deal. That's why they
break it all up. So I get why they do do it the roster isn't deep enough the roster isn't
it's just not talented enough to sustain that so off the jump we suspected okay one to two years i
think my prediction was two years but then come two years it would fizzle out let's see if it
fizzles out it certainly is not going to fizzle out come january because you do see bellator
lightweight title mentioned there but it seems like afterwards we may be moving towards a situation where it just becomes I don't know
what they're going to call a champion series they're going to try to do something where
Africa, Europe, America, Middle East all come together let's see let's see they have grandiose
plans I ultimately feel like the best fighting the best,
the biggest fight, meritocracy be damned. For PFL, just make the biggest fights. Make the fights
that have the biggest juice, the best storyline, the most heat. And this would be to me an
acknowledgement that they agree. Paul Hughes was signed to be a PFL fighter. He hasn't even gone
into the PFL season yet. He's fought once
in Bellator and once on a PFL pay-per-view, and now he's fighting for the Bellator lightweight
title. That to me is an acknowledgement that, hey, why waste time by putting him through a
whole ringer of a season, plus playoffs, plus championship, when we could put him in there
against a Bellator champion, and that's the biggest fight i mean i can't even tell you who the top dog right now is for the 155 division in uh in the pfl make the biggest fights
make the juiciest fights make the sexiest fights and they're doing that that feels like somewhat
of an indictment on their format which they believe so strongly in uh and some sort of
acknowledgement that yeah uh the fight game formula which is give the fans what they want, still works.

And I think that the rematch could be very different. And then you still have other great contenders like Almeida, who had just one setback. That would be an intriguing fight for Tom. Okay, so let me just address that. Yeah, sure. But like, I mean, come on. We saw John versus
Gan. Gan has to fight Volkov. You mentioned Volkov. There's just, I mean, there is those
two guys and there's a gigantic drop off. There are two fights left for John. Really? I mean,
there's really no argument here. It's Pereira and Aspinall.
Aspinall, Pereira. Those are the biggest fights. He could stick around forever and fight this guy,
that guy, this guy, that guy. But those are the two biggest fights. Those are gigantic fights and arguably way bigger than any fight since the second DC fight, if I'm being honest.
Bigger than Anthony Smith, bigger than Tiago Santos, bigger than Dominic Reyes. The gunfight
was huge. His comeback, his debut, Stipe was huge, obviously to a degree. Those two fights
are sexier, bigger, juicier, more intriguing than all of those combined. And that's no knock
on the other guys, but they're just not at the level right now. So not trying to be disrespectful.
There's just levels.

gentleman uh for about six months now and i understand there was a process and a lot was
going on in his life but I am thrilled
that he is finally here without further ado let us say hello to one of the greatest wrestlers in
the history of this great country the man going back to Minnesota for one more national championship
run my good friend Gable Steveson hello Gable how are you my man thank you for coming on
Harry I appreciate you how are you I am doing. I am so happy to be talking to you.
It has been a while that I've been hitting up your team, and I understand why the timing
wasn't right, but the timing appears to be tremendous now.
By the way, congratulations, and it was awesome seeing you a part of John Jones' camp and
at 309.
I actually, just for fun, wanted to just start there if I could.
How did you link up with John?
How did that all come about?
I've been on John for a few years now from Instagram.
And then as time went on, we just became more, more and more good friends.
And he reached out and was like, Hey, do you want to come to the camp last year before
he is, his shoulder got hurt.
And then this year he reached out again and was like, would you like to join?
And of course I would love to.
And so, yeah, there you are with the great Gordon Ryan.
So were you there for the entire training camp?
So I was bouncing back and forth just because I was going back to school at Minnesota.
So he told me just come as many times as you please.
And so I went a few times, a couple weeks at a time.
And then I took off with him to the fight.
And was this the first time that you were a part of a UFC him to the fight and and was this the first time that
you were a part of a ufc fight training camp yes it was the first time and crazy that's the first
time with one of the best ever yeah well no not even but not even one of the best ever the best
ever yeah and so the like the insight that you got into seeing how he prepares did it change
not to say that you had a negative opinion of him, but I'm sure your eyes were up like,
holy crap, this guy is next level, right?
Man, just beyond next level.
What a great training camp.
What a great team he has.
What a great human being John is too.
Just definitely one of a kind in all aspects.
And I was grateful that he chose me
out of all the wrestlers out there to come help him.
And we had a great time.
Is this going to be a thing moving forward?
Like, you know, if he fights next year, when he fights next year, do you think he'll be
back in there?
I would hope so.
I mean, I would hope he picks me, consistently picks me.
You know, he's got a great foundation going on already.
So no hard feelings if he doesn't.
But that's my guy and I would love to.
And in the back, like when he was warming up and all that, were you warming him up?
Were you a part of it?
Like, what was your role on fight night? My on fight night was just just uh we went to the
ring beforehand he just has a tradition and then before the fight i'm sitting down a stand with
with near his family and then he's in the back with all of his team and i'm just sitting watching
waiting for greatness okay and and just curious um being there at msg like to to feel that
atmosphere to feel that buzz,
you've been to some massive events, Olympics, obviously, national championships,
WrestleMania, et cetera, et cetera. How did that compare?
Oh, man, top of the line. MSG is definitely historical in so many ways. And you've got the
heavyweight showdown in New York City, what can go wrong? And so everything all right that night,
and just a one-of-a-kind experience. I've been to a lot great places i've been to a lot of events and that was definitely one of the top
ones love it um all right now we go back to april i remember i remember seeing you on the streets of
philadelphia i was walking there i was there for uh wrestlemania it was you and roman bravo young
and we caught up very briefly and obviously when you bump into someone uh you say hello how are you
and it's a very quick chat
But you don't really know what's going on in someone's life
I remember us talking about how things are going
In WWE, all good
See you later, see you soon
Literally a few weeks later
We find out you're leaving WWE
That you've parted ways with the company
And I will admit this was a shock
Because of how much they invested in you
The NIL deal, how they were building you up, the WrestleMania appearance, et cetera, et cetera.
And so I'd love to give you the opportunity because I do believe this is the first time that
you're really speaking about it all at length. For as long as you want, what happened? What
happened between you and WWE? When I got to WWE, everything was great and everything went great the whole time um
just it just wasn't the right time after I signed with WWE I tried to go back to wrestle and
you know you can't do consistently the one foot in one foot out of everything and
as later time going on it just wasn't the right thing and I wanted to keep wrestling and keep
going in that direction and WWE had a different direction and obviously it's no hard feelings
it's it's never bad blood I did see um Paul Levesque Triple H or Hunter whatever people call him nowadays at
the UFC event and we had a brief combo and everything was very civil and very nice and
it was great to see him and Stephanie backstage and everything is everything is good there's no
hard feelings on my end and they knew at the time that I wanted to keep being competitive and
it was just a little bump in the road and it happens. When did you start to feel
like maybe this wasn't the best fit right now? I'm really not sure, but I mean, just time build
up maybe, but at the end of the day, it just, it just wasn't the right time. And that's really all.
And could I ask, was it your decision to leave? Was it their decision
to part ways? Like how did it your decision to leave was it their decision to part ways like
how did it all come to that conclusion um just i'm not sure okay is that something you don't feel
comfortable talking about now we'll just leave it as we'll just leave it as everything's all good
there's no there's no tensions there's no animosity against anything and if the opportunity
definitely came around in the future and I would love to put
both feet back in and take off and go run with it. And I would love that. But business is always
going to be business. You got to take risks in your life. And some of the risks don't work. And
that one just didn't work. And there's no problems with me. I'm hands off. And time over time will
always come back around, hopefully. Do you regret going down that path?
No, I don't regret anything. I don't regret going down that path no i don't regret anything i don't regret going down that
path i don't regret playing for the buffalo bills i think i've had so many great experiences that it
was just an experience that you got to learn from and and understand the business in the right way
next time you come back and of course i i can't wait to ask you about the buffalo bills obviously
i'm a lifelong bills fan so i'm very curious about that experience. But just a few more on WWE.
Do you have any sort of, you know, disappointment?
Like when you look back, I wish I would have maybe done this or done that or maybe leaned up, you know, close to this person or took this advice.
Like when you look back on it, any disappointment?
Of course, there's going to be disappointment.
I feel like I could have done so much more in the business and I could have lasted a really long time.
But like I said, business is always going to be business and business doesn't stop for
anyone.
And it's not going to stop for me, especially even if I'm the Olympic champion.
So there's no problem with it.
I'm good to go.
I'm going through a college wrestling game and restarting everything and getting back
to where I was.
When you look at those photos there that we just showed, what are the emotions?
Like, do you look back with fondness? No, I look back and that's a great picture. I was in a
WrestleMania. I had a WrestleMania moment. There's so many people that are pro wrestling that have
never had a WrestleMania moment and are praying that they do. And I've had that moment and
pretty cool. And Chad Gable, thank you for that moment too. And I mean, like I said, there's no
problems for me. I would love to, if it came about again, it'll be cool. If not, the world
never stops spinning. So you're keeping the pro wrestling door open. You're not shutting it after
this experience. No, I would love to keep it open. If it's always there, anything I do, just keep it
open. If it doesn't work, maybe you can try again. Life's all about getting chances. And if you can
get the best chance possible in the future, take i was curious about one thing uh when they signed you
everyone was saying of course you're like you know once in a generation athlete you're an incredible
specimen but people were wondering how you would feel with the entertainment aspect of it all
because you're a little bit more you know quiet and reserved and not over the top like some others
when when you were going through nxt and Performance Center and going through all that stuff, how
did you feel on the microphone and being a quote unquote character, so to speak?
Definitely some getting used to, but as time went on, I did get used to the fact of who
I am.
And a lot of it is you got to be comfortable with yourself.
And if you're not comfortable with yourself, then things won't work.
And maybe there could have been a lot of things I could have done better. Yes. But I mean,
I feel like I'm really comfortable with myself and, um, just, there's really not much to say
on that part. So, um, when you left, uh, you were, you were relatively quiet and, and sometimes when
you're quiet and you don't, you know, do a bunch of interviews and try to put out your version of the story, people start running with different, you know, different versions of stories about what went wrong and all this stuff.
Could I ask first why you were quiet?
And second of all, when you start to read things online that may not be true, how does that feel internally?
I just didn't go online.
I mean, what's the point of going online after something bad happens?
So I stayed quiet just because the fact that there was no hard feelings when I did get let go.
And there's still no hard feelings now.
And I have nothing to say about the business because when I sat down with Vince and Nick Khan and Triple H, it was all love.
And that's when I first met them back in 2021.
And from there on, there was no problems.
I mean, I took it as a hit on the chin,
a humbling experience,
and you got to keep moving forward.
If you stick in and are bitter about something,
then there must have been a problem.
And there was no problems with me.
Sometimes in life when a separation is coming,
you can kind of see it coming
and you feel it coming.
Were you that way,
or was this a total shock? Maybe it was, it was probably definitely a build-up.
Did it come out of left field? Of course, but like I said, no problem. Okay, and so when you get that,
you know, notice, if you will, what do you do? Like, do you sit at home? Do you lick your wounds?
Like, what was that next week like, next two weeks like um that same day i'm back in practice i'm back in wrestling
practice like nothing ever happened so i mean like i mentioned before time doesn't stop for anybody
business doesn't stop for anybody and if you let it stop you then there's a problem so
just keep moving forward there was no like oh woe is me was me? I feel bad. I'm sad. Let me sit here. And
like none of that, there's, there's no element of that. Um, definitely some, maybe, um, maybe some
resentment of what if, I mean, what happened, what went wrong, but like I mentioned before,
I mean, nothing's ever going to stop. And I feel like I have a lot of talent to do a lot of great
things and I work hard. I'm dedicated and that wasn't going to be my closing door.
All right.
So then that happens.
It sort of simmers for a moment.
And then all of a sudden we start to get this NFL talk and it's like, oh, there's teams
interested.
And then it's you visiting teams.
And then it's eventually you signing this deal with the Buffalo Bills.
The initial talk of like teams interested and you visiting,
is that you and your team reaching out to NFL teams and saying,
hey, we're open for discussion for any kind of talks?
Or is them reach, are they reaching out to you guys saying,
have you thought of this?
Are you interested in this?
So there was a few that actually reached out to me right after that.
But there was also a few that reached out.
Buffalo reached out after the Olympics, which was kind of was also a few that reached out. Buffalo reached out
after the Olympics, which was kind of crazy. And I told them no, because I was going back to school
to wrestle in the WWE. But right after the latest WWE, I got out and Buffalo reached out and then a
few other teams reached out. So it was definitely a cool thing. Okay. Can I ask how many teams did
you actually meet with? I met with two teams. I met with the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins.
And did both of them offer you a deal?
Yes, both did.
And why did you choose the great Buffalo Bills? Why did you choose America's team?
I chose Buffalo just because I really like Sean McDermott and Brandon Bean and what the team has going on.
The team is 9-2 right now. They just beat the Chiefs.
Yeah.
Definitely.
And I knew it was going to be a hard experience going in with all the guys they have, like Vaughn Miller, Greg Russo, Ed Oliver, Daquan Jones, Dwayne Carter.
They have a stacked D-line room.
And it's showing because they're 9-2 and they just beat the best team in NFL right now, the Kansas City Chiefs.
So I knew what I signed up for and McDermott and Brandon Bean, the GM said, Hey, we'll give you the best chance. If
this is the place for you, then it's the place for you. If not, we'll give you some, we'll give
you the playing time to at least find another home. Okay. And so just to be clear, elementary
school, Pop Warner, high school, college, you had never played football before. I'd never played
football. The first time I tried on cleats was at the Buffalo i'd never played football the first time i
tried on cleats was at the buffalo bills trial and the first time i put on pads was at training
camp that's absurd man did you okay so like i said superhuman athlete but is there any part
of you when this process is happening like you know what did i just get myself into oh yeah most
definitely i i showed up and i just had no clue how to how to hit that because i was playing d
tackles i was at the nose and just reading reading blocks that the old line was going to
give was just such a hard thing and I feel as camp went on I definitely learned and adapted and
I wish I did have more time with Buffalo that would have been so great and I feel like it would
have put me in a lot better position to keep playing now but I mean I know what I signed up
for and I had a great time and one thing that maybe
the casual fan may not know is just how you know how thick how extensive those playbooks are right
like to learn everything and the codes and all that stuff how overwhelming was that just beyond
overwhelming I mean I had to start from I came three weeks late to OTAs and so I had to start
from scratch and so I had Matt Edwards the assistant D-line coach and Marcus helped the D-line coach helping me literally like know where to line up, how to
know, do I line up in a one, do I line up in a three or two eye? The words they say are just
everything in the hand signals that you got to adapt to. It was just, it was so overwhelming,
but as the camp went on, I definitely adapted well and figured out the meaning of what I was doing and the art of playing D-line.
In total, how long were you with the Bills for?
I was with the Bills from May 31st all the way to the last preseason game.
And so how long did it take for you to at least start to feel comfortable
with the lingo, with the jargon, on the field, wearing the cleats?
I would say towards the end of camp.
That's when I started really, really feeling comfortable
who I was on the football field and not having that confidence
to go out there and battle a center and a guard at the same time.
And it came along, and I really did wish I had more time.
It was such a good time.
I understand this may be a tough question to answer,
but I'll just ask it anyway.
Which news was more difficult to process?
Which were you more bummed by, the WWE release or the Bills release?
I'm not sure.
Maybe no answer.
I just wonder if it was the Bills one because I feel like you were just getting started
and you were liking it and you didn't get enough time to get your feet wet.
I just, I think they both got a certain sting to it and that's about it.
Fair enough.
Was there anyone in the locker room in the Bill's organization that like really
took you under their wing?
Took you under their wing.
Yeah, that's right.
Like Vaughn Miller, was it really?
Vaughn Miller, 100%.
The first time I showed up, I had a locker next to Vaughn.
Vaughn takes up two lockers because he's up I had a locker next to Vaughn Vaughn takes up
two lockers because he's got so much stuff and packages are getting sent to him but Vaughn
Miller definitely took me under his his wing and was like hey you're an athlete I believe in you
if if this is a spot for you this is a spot for you if it's not I'm gonna help you to get to where
you need to go also and Vaughn definitely played that big brother role for me and and try to get
me in the right direction that is great to hear sure um and you played in one game I played in three games
three games where you actually got on the field um that first one how nerve-wracking was it
very nerve-wracking just because it's a whole new thing that you're getting into and
it's it D-line is just like wrestling but everyone knows that
d-line um in wrestling you got seven minutes to sprint and hold off and go again in football you
got five seconds and it's a sprint you get the ball you don't get the ball and maybe it's your
fault maybe it's not your fault so i think the hardest part for me was knowing that if a ball
didn't come my way that i'm not at fault for missing it. You got to do your job. You got to know your role and you got to stay in your gap and,
and know just where to go at all times.

how much of a beast is coach McDermott?
Because you see him,
he's pretty built,
but I understand like he has a wrestling background as well,
right?
He does.
Yeah.

McDermott is beyond a beast.
He's,
he's one of a kind and he's led so many teams to do great things.

No. He tried
to get on the mat with me, but he just had excuse after excuse and i just and wow these times so wow if sean's listening to
this i i don't mean to throw you under the bus like that but it's you just you just kept dodging
and ducking i just i'm not sure why wow um by the way which team did you grow up like a fan of like
who's your team was it the vikings i really didn't have a fan of? Who's your team? Was it the Vikings?
I really didn't have a team, but I grew to like the Vikings from being in Minnesota.

So just curious, if it ends up being a Bill's Vikings Super Bowl, who are you rooting for?
I'm at the Rupert.
I'm still at home in Minnesota, so I'm not sure.
I might have to root for Buffalo.

leader and an incredible teammate any interactions with him yeah josh was definitely a leader josh um
he he definitely he definitely took a lot of players under his wing such as keon coleman
keon just showed up and and josh wrapped him under was like you're gonna be the best receiver
if you want to be and keon knowing if you know Keon Coleman, you know he wants to be the
best receiver out there. And Josh just led the team in so many ways and his energy and his presence
just brought a different vibe to everybody. And it made sure everybody wanted to win too. And as
we see now, the team is nine and two and they're winning and hopefully they can get through that
Super Bowl and then finally bring a ring back to Buffalo.

it um i remember when the wwe news came out and one of the things that was brought up was if this
would have come out maybe a few weeks prior uh it would have given you enough time to try out for the USA Wrestling
Olympic team which of course the Olympics happened late July early August was that disappointing
that the timing at least didn't allow you to go back to the Olympics to try to go back to back
um definitely disappointing but like we talked about before it was it was no hard feelings when it was going to happen, and I just have no problem with it.
Would I have loved to have gone to Paris and won my second gold medal?
Yes, of course.
That would have been a great thing, but no problems.
Did you watch the Olympics, or was it too difficult?
No, I watched it, and the American heavyweight mix in Paris, he did really well.
The guy beating the 2020 finals, he won the Olympics this year.
So it would have been cool to get another crack at him, but it's all good.
Just curious, like watching the atmosphere and how, you know, it was buzzing as opposed to Tokyo.
Was there any part of you that had a little bit of FOMO?
That part really gave me a lot of FOMO.
I wish I could have showed up and had that real experience because in 2021, I maybe had 30 people in the stands watching and I feel like I had a really
good finish for the crowd just to go crazy.
Yeah.
But I mean,
time goes on and I'm sad I missed it.
It just happens.

So part ways with,
with the Buffalo bills.

Then what are you thinking?
Like there's so many options on the table now.
And ultimately, we know what your decision is. You've announced you're going back to Minnesota
for one last year. And by the way, the video that they put out starring you, do you mind if we just
play it real quick? Because I thought it gave me chills, man. It was freaking incredible. For those

Why so long ago? You were still in WWE back then.
I was supposed to wrestle last year and I decided not to.
The timing wasn't right.
So we held that video this whole time. Wow. oh I did not know that that is incredible so when you watch
it what what is it what does it do to you it just gets me fired up it gets me fired up knowing that
I'm coming back to to what I'm used to I'm coming back to the to the University of Minnesota I'm
coming back to amateur wrestling and gonna make it a powerhouse and go out out there and dominate and put on a great show as I always do.
So going back to the original question, when you leave Buffalo, do you consider any NFL
deals or is it right away, I'm going back to Minnesota?
No, I actually waited.
After Buffalo, I waited maybe a month.
I had the Indianapolis Colts bring me out for a tryout.
I had the Indianapolis Colts bring me out for a tryout. I had the Ravens. The Ravens
were going to keep me, but they had a D-end get hurt the Sunday before I went to the tryout. So
I went on a Monday and then I flew home Monday too. So they had to compensate for a D-end.
And then just a few weeks ago, the New Orleans Saints reached out and they wanted to take me
for practice squad after a tryout. So still a cool opportunity. And if it prevails, maybe a futures deal with the team that I can
sign or stick with it. You never know. Okay. So you're still keeping that door open as well.
Yeah. I think that'd be really cool. When I tell you, I love playing for the Buffalo Bills and I
love playing football. It definitely brought a spark back into me that I didn't have for a long
time. And I was grateful for the opportunity. When do you make the decision? All right, 100%. I'm back in. I'm going back to
Minnesota. So when I was with Buffalo, we knew that I had a year of eligibility left. And so if
I did get cut from Buffalo, the chances of me wrestling were probably 99%, unless the 1% was
the football and it took me from there. So right after I got done with
Buffalo, I called my manager and I was like, Hey, I think we should wrestle. I think we should go
back to Minnesota. And he was all on board with this. So we had the wrestling solidified maybe
the day after Buffalo Bills, but I kept silent about it for maybe a month just because I wanted
to see if a team would take me to give me another chance. And so what, what has the reaction been like?
I know you did a press conference a couple of days ago and it's a gigantic
deal,
but back on campus,
do you feel like,
cause I noticed and correct me if I'm wrong,
some of the questions,
I think some of like the old guard may not like the fact that you're able to
do this.
Cause this is a sign of the new NCAA times,
which you guys should profit and you should get paid.
And it's absurd that for many,
many years athletes couldn't get paid. Do you feel like everyone's on board with
this? Or is there still some people saying like, oh, you know, you went to the NFL, you did WWE,
this shouldn't be a thing. I feel like a lot of people are probably saying this shouldn't be a
thing. But I think it's a great thing for me to go out there and reestablish who I was. And I think
it's a great thing for the University of Minnesotanesota also just to bring me back and and we can have that aura of being a powerhouse wrestling team we have a fantastic team right now
um six guys in the top 10 which is really unheard of for minnesota in the past few years is because
we've been on a downhill slope and so i think right now with me coming back coming back is
definitely going to bring that that swag back to the team and then that grit and then just the fashion of who we really are and who Minnesota wrestling really is.
Because is it going to be hard to compete with Penn State and Iowa and those guys right now?
Yes, of course.
But I think this is going to lead into something big.
And that's what I've always wanted to be for the University of Minnesota is just be something big for them so they can lead into the next people next next phase of people that come
in uh what are you guys ranked we're eight right now and and your first match correct me if i'm
wrong is it on sunday yes it is on sunday but i believe i'm gonna wrestle friday at north dakota
state also okay wow uh so you're right back in it and how do you feel like in it how's your great i
mean i never stepped out when i left in 2022 i never stepped off the mat i did
wrestle a couple freestyle matches in 2023 so it's been about a year and a year and a couple
months as i wrestled um but i feel great i feel ready bulking up for football and then cutting
it back off for wrestling it definitely helped me a lot and just it's going to be really good
i just can't i can't wait to wrestle you were somewhat
of a rookie in pro wrestling a rookie in nfl now you go back to where you're the king right like
this is your thing is it nice from a confidence and ego standpoint to know like yeah this is this
is my world there's no feeling out process here most definitely i think um wrestling heavyweight
wrestling needs needs a person like
me and i feel like this is the best time to do it especially in the ncaa they need a guy that's
going to go out there and dominate and show and get a lot of points and and get the crowd riled
up and i think that's what i bring and i just can't wait to showcase the new gable steves into
a lot of people i think it's also just great for the sport in the sense that like you know i'm aware
of of collegiate wrestling i've said i i i don sport in the sense that like, you know, I'm aware of collegiate wrestling.
I've said I don't have the bandwidth to follow it.
I know one current collegiate wrestler and it's you.
And so now I'm invested and I want to see if you can do it again and win another national championship and all that stuff.
So I think it only brings more attention and viewers and eyeballs and all that stuff to it. I am wondering, though, if you're considering trying to trying to make it to LA in 2028, because you missed out on Paris, is that part of the plan?
Yes. LA drives me a lot just because it's in the United States and what other, what other better
way to win the Olympics than to be in the United States? I mean, I'm not sure when the last time
the Olympics was in America, but this is definitely going to be a big thing, especially with it being in LA.
So many well-rounded people that are in LA,
so many, I just don't,
I don't even want to say the word famous people,
just the caliber of what LA brings to the United States is crazy.
And so I think being able to showcase
who Gable Steveson is in LA
is definitely going to be a big thing.
Yeah, the last summer games in the us 96 atlanta uh so yeah it has been quite some time um i am
hoping selfishly we get to see you in an mma cage and i heard john jones uh shower you with praise
in his post-fight press conference he said it's not if you will be a ufc champion one day it's
when you'll be a ufc champion and And so where does MMA fit into these plans?
Are you going to eventually try your hand at mixed martial arts?
I mean, I dipped and dabbed in MMA for a while now.
And after being in that camp with Jon Jones, that definitely put a major spark in me to go out there and do MMA.
Not sure of the promotion yet, but Jon definitely lit a fire under me and was like hey i think you
should go back to wrestling i think you should try mma we got a great team here with um in albuquerque
if you want to join us and it was it was just fascinating how i got into something so quick
and when i put on the gloves everything felt like home base and with the wrestling with the
the the boxing work with the jiu-jitsu I feel like I could be very good really quick.
And, you know, one of the things that people used to say about Brock, whether true or not,
is he doesn't like to get hit. John said you got a knee in the face and you just brushed it off.
And so what does it feel like to get hit? I mean, taking a knee is crazy. I mean,
everyone knows taking a knee is crazy, especially from John's own. So, I mean, we were just wrestling
around and I went to take a shot and
just the reaction time that he had especially at the age that he is is just fascinating I've never
seen it from any other guy you know I wrestled Brock Lesnar a few years ago and John was just
so much different and when I took that shot and took that knee I was like oh this is what it feels
like you hit and obviously it hurts we know that but just my first real hit is getting kneed in the face.
And it goes on ESPN, which is kind of funny.
By the way, who's stronger?
Like who's more powerful, Brock or John?

Between now and 2028, do you have an MMA fight?
I do not have an MMA fight.
I do have a path that can lead me to somewhere great.
And so we are discussing it and I think it'll be a really good path for me to get out there
and showcase who I am. I'm going to take some time and make sure everything is 100% ready and
make sure that I am physically capable of being who I am, which I know I am, but you just know
it's going to take time like every other thing. I'm just curious, did you happen to see a fellow national champion
Bo Nickel in action on Saturday? And if so, your reaction to people chanting overrated and booing
him when, you know, here's a guy going to the fight, six pro fights, didn't use any wrestling
in the fight and just beat a veteran 30 to 27. Let's talk about how Bo Nickel actually used no wrestling to beat a veteran like Paul Craig.
And I actually, I like Paul Craig and I think he's a really good fighter.
And I think he's been in the game for so long that the respect level is there for him.
And Bo gave him so much great respect and they both did back and forth.
But we can also talk about how the three-time national champ, two-time Dan Hyde trophy winner,
an Olympic alternate used zero wrestling on a UFC veteran is crazy.
So with only six fights in, I mean, I just think if people don't read between the lines of that,
then something must be wrong.
And I think Bo did a great job.
He did his thing.
And as long as you come out with your hand raised, that's all that matters.
Just curious, I think I saw you with Daniel Cormierier you took a photo with him maybe went out for dinner or
something like that did you talk to him about these plans i haven't i actually have not i didn't
go to that dinner oh i thought i saw a photo with you guys together with dave martin am i crazy
no i wasn't i wasn't in there because i was at a i was at a scheduled practice with uh john john
okay so maybe so i did see rob Robbie Lawler there and those guys,
so I'm imagining this.
I do have a vision, a dream of you and DC for some reason.
You're sort of similar build training together. And I know that might be weird with the John Jones relationship,
so probably that dream is not going to come to fruition.

um obviously everything got caught up in the moment there conor mcgregor was there they had
a great kind of a passing of the torch moment that night but i think you've got to do it like
where else do you put him after the aj mckee? I feel like it's nearly the same conversation we're going to have again.
Before the AJ McKee fight, we had so many people saying, oh, who is this guy?
This guy is just another can.
He's another Irish Conor McGregor wannabe.
He is not that guy.
He is a very different guy.
He has his own story.
He already had countless departures from the sport due to injury and different situations like that.
I think he needs
to make haywell the sunshines and i think he's very very excited about getting what he wants
which was always usman amagomedov i do wonder he wins this fight let's just say he wins this fight
does he still go into the pfl tournament this is where it gets tricky right yes yeah because i
always thought that was a weird way to look at it from Paul's point of view. Like, I'm going to go in and take out the biggest names and then put myself into the tournament.
I know Brendan Loughnane's back in the final next weekend, but he's the guy who talks about it the most.
The toll that those tournaments take on your body.
It might be the most pure sport avenue you can go in MMA because of the way it is, right?
Like because you're just taking on these guys, it's a knockout style tournament.
I think that's, I think, I think he will certainly view it in a different light.
If he beats Usman, if he gets that belt, all of a sudden he might be going,
I'm really going to have to fight four times.
You know, I'm going to have to do all this, like no recovery time for my body between every fight.
And I think a lot of people,
before they go into the PFL tournament,
they think about that and they go,
you know, that's great.
I won't have to worry about getting a fight
or pursuing fights
because I'm going to know
when I'm going to fight all the time.
It's a very different story
when you're actually doing it.
You know, Lachnane is a guy known for his durability.
He's been around donkeys years.
And look, he's climbed the ladder again.
But for him to be saying second time around, like, this is hellish.
Like, I don't know if I can handle this.
It's not only physically exhausting, it's mentally exhausting.
You have no time off.
You're just doing a straight sprint for a year.
I think he will certainly look at that differently should he have the belt wrapped around his waist in January.
I'm assuming Usman is the favorite going into
this fight.
I mean, I'm just assuming given his dominance
and that he's the champion and whatnot, puzzles.
But if you could tell us, like, do you fancy

That's going to be a bigger test for Paul.

now into that promotion they have such a strong uk presence the problem with bellator and pfl in
ireland was it was all just spg guys and a lot of the time people were like, these aren't like, you know,
obviously there was the exceptions with the likes of Sinead fighting
Cyborg, Peter Quealy fighting Pitbull.
Like there was a lot of competitive fights, but for the most part,
people were like these, these SPG guys aren't being put in real fights.
Paul, he might've got a bit of a soft launch with his debut in Dublin,
but from there he goes from AJ McKee to Usman Amagamadov.
That is massive. And it's, it's sending a message to the rest of the people in the UK with his debut in dublin but from there he goes from aj mckee to usman amaga madoff that is
massive and it's it's sending a message to the rest of the people in the uk and orland that this
is a viable option outside of the ufc just to prove that i am so extremely generous with my
compliments can i just say to frank especially that the difference in the way in which pt sounds

There is a drift there from the scene,

So I think Paul will be huge
and Ian will be huge.
I'd say Ian takes that
because just the situation he's in with Shavkat.
But Paul, honestly, massive.

Quite historic stuff emanating from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

It's great to have you.
Let me go through some of the facts and figures here, the actual facts, if I may, and congratulate
you and the team on, as I said, a historic night.
Correct me if I'm wrong with any of these.
$18.1 million gate, a little over 72,300 fans in attendance at AT&T Stadium.
It is the biggest gate for any boxing or MMA event outside the city of Las Vegas.
It is the ninth highest combat sports gate ever in U.S. history and set a record as the
highest grossing gate at AT&T Stadium for a combat sports event. Prior to that, we had Canelo Alvarez
fighting at AT&T Stadium, his gate, 9 million. As for the actual viewing numbers, 65 million live
concurrent streams on Netflix, most streamed global sporting event ever. Katie Taylor and
Amanda Serrano, the most watched professional women's sports event in US history. 38 million
concurrent streams for the main event alone. And one big number, of course, 108 million live
viewers globally from the opening to closing bell and continued throughout the weekend with an estimated AMA,
which stands for average minute audience of 125 million, 74 million. Watch Taylor Serrano. I could
go on and on, but those seem to be the big numbers. Am I missing a significant one?
You missed two big ones. One of them is, and that number is right behind me, 56% of the households at midnight to 1 a.m. Eastern, so 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Pacific who had TVs on, were watching Paul versus Tyson.
So one out of every two homes that had TVs on was watching this event, which is pretty amazing. It reminds me of the days of Globo in Brazil on broadcast TV
when Anderson Silva would fight and there will be that kind of market share.
Secondly, we broke the record for commercial pay-per-view distribution. So that's bars and
restaurants paying to show this event because they can't use just a residential Netflix account.
Previous record was held by Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
Now that record is owned by Paul Tyson, Taylor Serrano too.
Obviously you believed in the fight. Obviously you had high expectations, lofty expectations,
but truthfully, have these numbers exceeded your expectations? Are you blown away by these types?
This is, you know, in a day and age where you have so many streaming platforms and everything
is so splintered in the internet and second screen experiences, to see the world come together
and watch one singular event broadcast, very rare in 2024, as you know, are you surprised by any of
these numbers? So going into it, we had two, I had two main goals, which I spoke about several times internally and then in a couple of interviews that I did.
Goal number one was to break the U.S. streaming record for any form of content.
The record was made earlier this year on Peacock for an NFL playoff game.
That was 23 million concurrent streams. The second goal
was to have the most viewed women's sporting event in U.S. history. The record held was
Women's World Cup, I think 1999 on Fox broadcast television. And so I was confident we would
exceed those numbers. And we did. i think the scale at which we exceeded them
is is beyond what i expected and obviously i'm very happy with the outcome as is everyone at mvp
as are the fighters as is netflix um when when you and and netflix first spoke about this was it more
um a question of you pitching the idea of Jake versus Mike on Netflix?
Or was it Netflix saying, hey, we like the idea of Jake, but we need a dance partner that is big enough for Netflix.
And so what about Mike Tyson?
Like, you know, what came first?
It was definitely us giving them a list of different names and Mike Tyson being one of those names. deal with behind as i've been on record with mvp and jake paul being the first ever live professional
sporting event on netflix with an opponent to be agreed agreed upon and we had several names within
that list obviously there were the uh the streaming the buffering issues is that a gift and a curse
how do you process that how do you digest that because on the one hand it's it's a byproduct of
all these people trying to watch at the
same time.
But on the other hand, you want everyone to watch the event and that becomes a story on
Saturday morning.
So when you are hearing about it in real time and when you are processing it after the fact,
how are you digesting that information?
I think first and foremost, we broke the internet.
We did something that has never been done before.
The record for streaming in the US was 23 million concurrence, right? We blew past that.
So Netflix has shown that it has an ability to do things that no other media platform has done
before. Secondly, Netflix is always advancing the boundaries of content consumption. They've
been doing that for many years. And this was another example of that. They did a better job, Ariel, than any media partner that I've ever seen in
promoting this event, both in their own channels and in terms of third-party marketing spend.
It was a tremendous execution of bringing attention, eyeballs, and awareness to one specific live event.
And they deserve all the credit in the world. And the biggest credit that anyone can get who's a
public company is how their stock price acts after such a monumental moment for their company. And
as you will see, as has been discussed by many financial analysts, their stock is up meaningfully since last Friday night.
So investors loved what they saw.
So many takes in the aftermath.
I would love to ask you your opinion.
I mean, we can't address all of them,
but people have been critical.
Black eye for boxing, this was not great.
Shame on you, how dare you.
That negative stuff that you've seen afterwards,
what is your overall take on all of this stuff
that you've heard from people is your overall take on all this stuff that you've
heard from people in the general sports world in the just general world and of course in the
boxing world look if you don't see how this was the greatest moment in boxing history for the past
20 30 years then you're not a brand builder and you're not someone who's
focused on the growth of the sport long-term. And you're stuck in this little small niche
corner of sports called boxing that exists. More people got to witness this sport than they have
since the days of Muhammad Ali. There was a card that offered something for every single type of
consumer.
And one of our biggest objectives, as you know, going in was to give women the platform that they deserved.
And did Amanda Serrano and Katie deliver or did they deliver?
I mean, there's little girls I see videos of now putting on boxing gloves and saying, I'm going to be Katie Taylor.
I'm going to be Amanda Serrano.
I think we did a huge service to the sport of boxing. Netflix did a massive service to the sport of boxing by giving it the
exposure, giving it the engagement, giving it the conversation. So six different generations
were talking about this, but Generation Alpha was engaged in our sport. And even if 1% of those kids hang out and become boxing fans and some of them actually pick up boxing gloves, that's a massive win.
And if you're going to say, well, the fight wasn't the greatest fight.
You know what?
There's lots of fights that aren't the greatest fights.
There's lots of games that are blowouts.
There's lots of baseball games that are lopsided.
There's tennis matches where somebody wins three sets to none,
six love, six love, six love.
It wasn't about that one specific fight.
It's about what the event was for the sport.
Even with that fight, I'm extremely, extremely ecstatic
with the performance that Mike and Jake put on.
And I say that from different angles.
Mike was 58 years old going back into the ring. And as you know, many of your peers,
many boxing professionals, many MMA professionals actually said Mike's going to kill Jake Paul,
right? Many of them, Francis Nganou, Lennox Lewis, Daniel Cormier. I can go down a list of like,
you know, name after name of someone that said he's going to catch
him, he's going to kill him. Lennox Lutens actually was on record saying he's scared for
Jake Paul. Jake Paul is going to get hurt. This is not fair. Flip side, there was many people that
said Jake Paul is too young and he's going to annihilate Mike Tyson. Imagine being 27 years old
in your fourth year as a professional with no amateur experience
and you're walking into a stadium with 72 000 people and you're cool you're calm you're composed
and you perform perform under those bright lights against the baddest man on the planet who just
slapped you the day before in front of the whole world to see. And you became a meme overnight because of that slap.
I am beyond proud of what Jake did that night in the ring.
I mean, he showed that he has truly arrived
in the sport of boxing from my perspective.
And he countered anything that Mike Tyson could do
in terms of being able to actually reach
and connect with Jake.
What did you think of the fight?
I thought it was, as I expected it to be,
that early on Mike was very dangerous,
and as it went on, his stamina would lessen,
even though there were two-minute rounds,
and Jake would have an opportunity to win on points.
In the post-fight press conference,
Jake essentially said that he kind of, you know,
took his foot off the gas, right?
Because he felt like, you know, the job was done
and he didn't want to hurt Mike even more.
Did you get that sense as you were watching it live?
No, I actually think Jon Jones gave the best explanation.
I don't know if you saw that or not at his press conference post.
Tell us.
UFC had a fight the night after that I'm sure you covered well.
But he actually said the right thing.
Jake stopped taking risks because he didn't want to be the recipient of a massive punch from Mike Tyson that could end his night.

Very smart on Jake's part.
There was no reason to take a risk and end up flatlined.
And that can happen any moment in this sport, as you know.
When you heard in the buildup to this fight, people saying, oh my God, you're sending good
old Mike Tyson out to slaughter at 58.
How dare you?
You should be ashamed of yourself.
When you heard that, I'm just wondering how you processed it and then are processing now
people saying, well, why didn't you kill Mike Tyson?
Why didn't you knock out Mike Tyson?
Because it does sort of feel, if I'm'm being honest that the same people who are saying that today were the same ones saying
shame on you for stepping in there with him because you're going to kill the man
look i think i said this to you on your show when i you know when i was on there i forget when it was
um july age was the equalizer here for me. Right. There was a significant experience gap between these two men.
Mike said it himself.
He has more amateur fights than Jake has pro fights.
And I always felt like it was not going to be someone on the Jake side just obliterating Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson is a big, strong man.
If you've stood next to him and shook his hand,
one hand of his is two hands of Jake's, right? Like his neck is extremely thick. Like he's just,
he's built like a warrior. And he's been built that way since he was 13. Look at the picture of Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson at age 13. So I always viewed this as a fairly even fight in many
ways, given where Jake's experience level
is. I mean, I know, you know, Jake wants to be a champion and I believe he will be, and I believe
he'll be a champion sooner than people expect. But Mike Tyson is one of the greatest boxers of all
time. And he's going in there and is in his 12th fight against him, four years experience, Tony,
Tony blue or whatever, whatever his last name name is i'm not sure how to pronounce his
last name bell you tell you look at who he fought in his 12th fight he fought a guy that was 9 and
21 in front of nobody nobody cared nobody watched and that guy he fought ended his career at 10 and
28 is that a tougher fight or is fighting mike tyson who yes is 58 but you're you're jake paul
a tougher fight,
under the big lights,
on the biggest streaming moment in history of sports. Like, it's not even on the same playing field.
So I don't...
The only thing that bothers me
is the continued kind of narrative
and people saying the fight was rigged.
I saw something from Michael Irwin.
Irwin? Irwin? Irwin, the football was rigged. I saw something from Michael Irwin. Irwin?
Irwin, the football player.
He was on the broadcast.
He actually sat there with Jerry Jones.
I saw something this week where he's like,
I saw the contract and Mike couldn't throw an uppercut.
I'm concerned that there's a
CTE problem there for Michael
Irwin because how would you see the contract to begin with that?
You know, Mike Tyson could throw an uppercut. I mean, it's just it's beyond lunacy and the realm of like just reality of life.
This was a regulated professional bout by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation,
the Texas Athletic Commission. And we were partners with Netflix, the biggest media
company in the world, who's a public company. And for anyone to suggest that this was in any way
a rigged fight, they're either dumb or they're looking for attention. And I get it, like putting
up posts that, oh, proof it was rigged. This was rigged. That gets you good engagement. And a lot of people
comment and a lot of people like, and a lot of people share and we're in an attention economy.
People say outlandish things to, to, to bring awareness to themselves, but
it's, it's a sad state of society that that's, that's where people want to spend their time.
On Saturday, Mike Tyson posted something saying, you know, I've been through all these health issues.
I'm just happy I went eight rounds in front of my kids.
I'm so happy.
Was any part of you considering AVH but what happened in May to his health, you know, on that plane?
Were you concerned for him?
And did you know all that stuff that he was talking about?
That sentiment that was shared with him by him on that post was never shared with us, right?
We have the doctor's reports.
We have the conversations with the doctors.
That was never that was something that we thought about that he was, you know, close to losing his life or whatever it was that he said in the post.
I appreciate, you know, there was a lot of emotion leading up to that event.
And I appreciate the next day him reflecting on what he
went through, but I can unequivocally say every single report we had from his team, every
conversation we had with his doctors were nothing other than he is 100% going to be able to compete
starting at the end of August, early September. In the post-fight interview, he told me,
yeah, I think I will fight again. And then he made the joke about Logan. And I don't know if
the whole thing is a joke, but can I just ask you, do you have any interest in seeing Mike Tyson
fight again? It's not really my place to say that. I do believe that Mike Tyson has decided that
he's had a great career and he's going to focus on his entrepreneurial activities.
But I can't speak for him or Kiki or Mike's team
in terms of what they want to do next.
Okay.
And we will get to Katie and Amanda,
but I just want to continue with the Jake theme here.
And so now one of the big questions is,
all right, who's next?
And there's a litany of options.
And so I'll just ask the very straightforward question.
Do you know who his next opponent is yet?
We do not.
But what I do know is Jake is the face of boxing,
no matter what anyone wants to tell you.
Okay.
And he may not be the face of boxing
from being the most advanced boxer at this point in time,
but the heavyweight champ of the world is calling him out.
Artur Beterbiev, who's one of the pound-for-pound greats,
is calling him out.
Gervonta Davis is calling him out.
Ryan Garcia is calling him out, right?
Like Francis Ngannou, who Jake has supported time and time again,
is putting up tweets talking about, I want to slap Jake Paul.
Again, people want attention and engagement.
I get it.
That one actually, you know, didn't really sit well with Jake,
given how vocal Jake has been in supporting Francis.
But there's no shortage of options of what Jake can do at the big level and also at just like continuing to legitimize himself.
People forget like he fought a 17 and two Ryan Borland.
That's a legit like fight for someone at Jake's level.
The difference was Jake ended that dude in the first round and that guy wasn't ready for the moment.
Just like I said, Jake was ready for the moment with Mike Tyson.
But many people are not ready for those moment. Just like I said, Jake was ready for the moment with Mike Tyson, but many people
are not ready for those moments. So we're going to continue to focus on building his career to
gain the right experiences, to obtain his ultimate goal, which is being a world champion. And we're
also going to continue to do massive one-off events that capture the imagination of what's
possible. Is there a front runner at the moment?
I wouldn't say there's a front runner. There's multiple discussions happening.
Is there a short list?
Yes, there is a short list. Yes, Ariel.
Who is on the short list?
Not you or me.
Okay, perfect. Can you tell us any names?
No.
Okay.
I cannot tell you any names, but what I can tell you is Jake Paul's focus is on boxing. Jake Paul
focuses on building most valuable promotions, focusing on women's boxing, focusing on young
prospects, and focusing on his own career. And this past Friday, our company's three years and
three months old, Jake Paul helped put on one of
the biggest sporting events in history. An event that, to be honest, UFC hasn't had that size of
an event and it's been in inception for 30 plus years. So we feel really good about where he's at
professionally as a fighter and where the company is at in its maturation process.
I'll keep poking just a little bit if i can he did
talk a lot about canelo and i've said that i wouldn't be surprised as recently as yesterday
uh that on on our new show ariel and ade on the zone i said uh i think it's a real thing
is it possible that jake paul fights canelo alvarez what did ade say uh what did he say
about that he thought it was a a bit of a crazy statement on my part and and
didn't think that jake would want to go down that path um yeah so that's the i saw that that's the
only clip i saw ah come on thanks a lot i heard it i saw that on social media i think you guys
clipped that out yeah i was just shocked to say that jake paul wouldn't want that jake paul who
like in his fourth fight fought a UFC champion in Tyron Woodley,
who choked out Darren Till, right?
Tyron Woodley.
Jake Paul, who fought Anderson Silva, who beat Chavez Jr.
Jake Paul, who just got in there with the king of violence on four weeks' notice
when everyone said this is a dangerous fight.
You really think jake
paul's afraid to get in there with canelo alvarez like that's just that's that's shocking to me that
ade said that because obviously he doesn't know jake paul the slightest could i ask you though
2025 is it a possibility canelo versus jake paul absolutely is it possible that canelo's his next
fight not sure okay but it's a thing this is not like pie in the sky this is this is as real as Absolutely. Is it possible that Canelo's his next fight?
Not sure.
Okay, but it's a thing.
This is not like pie in the sky.
This is as real as ever.
I think, look, we just put on the biggest event since the advent of cable for the combat sports, right?
And so no matter what fighter you are, you have to look at that and say, that's a pretty special moment. That's a pretty special platform. Jake Paul doesn't need Canelo from a financial perspective, nor from like a belt perspective, because they're not going to fight for the belts that Canelo holds, right? If they were to fight. Canelo certainly doesn't need Jake Paul to make money either. So for me, if that fight was to happen, it has to be more than that.
It has to be a desire to once again, have the world stop and pay attention to this beautiful sport of boxing, have the world look at it and say, wow, boxing is really back and really bring
other fighters into the fold there to help bring exposure to the sport. We just did with our event
last Friday night. So I think the hurdle
isn't going to be money. There's so much money in that fight. The hurdle is both sides understanding
why they're really doing it if they end up doing it. Do you have a choice? You don't have to reveal
the choice, but in your mind, do you have someone who you'd like for Jake to fight next?
No, I mean, there's several names that we're looking at. I think it comes back to, as I said,
is it helping him on his path to become world champion?
Is it helping us kind of disrupt boxing further?
Is it just another massive moment for sports?
Those are all the different variables that go into our considerations.
When do you expect him to fight again?
Anywhere from March to May would be the next fight and is there a chance that it is back
on netflix is that a possibility i mean if listen i i think i said to everyone going in um if i'm
netflix i wouldn't do anything other than do this fight and then reassess. And if I'm Netflix now, I've reassessed and said, wow, that was extremely successful, beyond successful.
So I would hope there's definitely a chance, yes,
of doing another fight or two or three
or many more on Netflix.
Okay, and just two more if I may.
Do you have any idea if Canelo is interested
right now in fighting him?
I can't speak to that.
Okay.
There was a clip yesterday.
Jake was on Impulsive with his brother Logan and people were talking about the friction there I can't speak to that. friction than the one yesterday when they were going back and forth about, you know, him being at the event and not giving me props and whatnot. All to ask,
is there a chance Logan could be on the docket for him in 2025?
I think maybe that's something that Logan would like to happen, right? You know, Jake,
Jake for the first time is probably ahead of his brother in terms of reach, in terms of awareness, in terms of popularity, in terms of engagement.
And I think from a Logan perspective, who's ultra competitive, there is that tension.
There is that my baby brother's taking over and I need to teach him a lesson.
Oh, my.
I wouldn't be surprised if that came into fruition at all.
How do you feel about that, brother versus brother?
I have a very different relationship with my brother growing up than they do. Obviously,
myself and my brother have never been as successful as they were at age 16, 18, 22. So I
can't speak to that dynamic. I mean, these are two of the greatest
marketers, entrepreneurs, businessmen the world has ever seen underneath the age of 30, right?
Like you can't deny what these guys have done. Jake is 27, Logan is 28. Then multiple businesses
that they've built at this age. I, you know,
I can't speak to my relationship with my brother versus who these guys are.
They,
they've exceeded all boundaries of what brotherhood is and what success is.
Do you know if Jake's interested?
I think,
listen,
Jake,
Jake will have to get to a place where he feels like he has to do it,
uh,
to, to set things right.
I'm not sure.
I haven't had a discussion with him.
While I saw a clip out of your episode, I haven't seen the clip out of Paul's.

I'm still holding on to the dream of Jake.
Let me tell you what I don't appreciate, though, actually. I don't appreciate you not doing the MVP face-to-face sit-down interview with Katie, Amanda, Jake, and Mike.
And I know why you didn't do it.
And I respect that.
But I still think, like, massive missed opportunity for you and for us.
But, you know, I do appreciate that you refuse to be paid by anyone other than the network.
And in this scenario, MVP face-to-face
wasn't something that Netflix was involved in. It was a straight MVP production, MVP expense,
and that's why Netflix wasn't involved with you on it. But we did miss you on it, and I hope in
future the face-to-face is owned by the media partner so you can actually go back to your role
of moderating those things because I think you do a great job. Thank you. I do love doing those, but I just,
I always made a promise after 2016, I would never get paid by a promoter. That's no disrespect to
you. I appreciate the offer and you know how much I adore Katie and Amanda. And that to me is an
honor. Getting to do the first one was an honor. But Cameron was like, why isn't Ariel doing this?
I said, because Ariel refused to get paid by us. He's like, he doesn't like money. I said, but, uh, I was like, why isn't Ariel doing this? I said, cause Ariel refused to get paid by us.
He's like, he doesn't like money.
I said, no, he never gets paid by us.
He gets paid by his own or Netflix or Showtime.
And they're not paying for this.
The shame is I get accused of getting paid by you guys,
but I don't actually get paid by you guys.
So I'm like losing out on both ends.
It's a, it's a real shitty situation.
Shout out to Cameron though.
I thought he did a great job, um, you know,
for his first time doing something like that.
Uh, one last one, if I may, on this particular subject, I'm still holding out the,
the, the, the hope and dream of Jake KSI. And I know he has said a lot of things as well. And I
know maybe they're going in completely different directions, but is there any chance of that in
2025? I don't, I don't see it right now. I just think, you know, Jake just weighed in at 227 pounds and he wants to be a cruiserweight
champion.
And that's,
that's where the focus is.
And I think the,
you know,
they have a,
they have a great like vocal fan base online and,
you know,
we wish them nothing but success and continued,
you know,
continued prosperity in terms of what they're doing and hitting that specific demographic of entertainment.
We're building a boxing platform that's very focused on women's boxing, focused on young athletes, and letting Jake kind of run the front end of that spear.
And that's really what our focus is on
katie and amanda katie taylor and amanda serrano are reaching gaudy ward like territory in that
every single round they compete in a lot more people watched katie and amanda and then watch
gaudy board yeah of course yes absolutely i just mean 20 rounds each one better than the previous
one incredible stuff incredible drama. Obviously,
your fight, Amanda Serrano, falls short once again. Super close fight. A lot of people were
upset about it. I'm sure you've watched it back. How do you feel about the scoring? Who do you
think won? So when I watched it in person, and we're watching from a specific angle, right?
Every person who's watching it in the the in the stadium i thought it was a
very close fight but i thought amanda should have should have won given the headbutts uh when i
watched it at home and got to appreciate the punch stats as well and see the round by round judging
i thought given the point deduction amanda should have won like more clearly than when I was there.
Right.
I actually remember coming into the ring and you asked me,
what did you,
what did I think?
And I said,
I think they're going to give it to Katie unless,
you know,
the,
the,
they actually make an adjustment for the points that's appropriate.
But when I watched it back,
I definitely feel like Amanda won,
but she did win Ariel.
It doesn't matter.
Like who cares?
Okay, she took a loss on her record.
In the world of mixed martial arts, the beauty of UFC is as long as you put on a valiant performance and people are excited, they're rearing back to come and watch you again.
And in this instance, of course, the public perception was Amanda won.
Of course, every celebrity in the world that was watching that was meaningful tweeted out public perception was Amanda won. Of course, every celebrity in the
world that was watching that was meaningful, tweeted out or posted that Amanda won. Of course,
if you look at all the online journalism around it outside of Ireland, Amanda won. Even if you
look at ESPN's rankings today that they came out with, they actually say Amanda won. It's an error,
I'm sure, but it has Katie winning and it has Amanda winning.
And that's an error of someone actually thinking and typing something different than they should
be. But my point to you is, I'm not at all upset by the outcome of it in terms of the decision.
It's okay. And it now just sets up Amanda Serrano for something even bigger after this.
I don't know if there's anything bigger than a trilogy. And I asked Eddie about it yesterday.
And maybe it's if there's another Netflix card, but I'm just wondering, do you think that's
possible? It felt to me like they couldn't have been further apart before this fight was made.
Like, let's say there was no Tyson Netflix fight. It felt like she was fighting at 126, three-minute rounds,
and Katie was doing her thing at 140.
But then all of a sudden this happens, and it's big enough for them.
Do you foresee a trilogy down the line in the not-too-distant future?
Plus, let's be honest, Katie probably doesn't have many fights left.
Neither does Amanda.
That was her 51st pro fight.
Amanda's 36, just turned 36.
I don't know when Katie turns 39.
So different kind of age in terms of where they are in terms of their retirement, I guess, thought process.

do everything possible to make that happen and guarantee them the biggest payday in women's
combat sports history. That's, you know, the gold standard of women's combat sports is Ronda Rousey.
She sold 56,000 tickets by herself in Australia against Holly Holm, who was fairly
unheralded before she knocked out Ronda, right? And I think finally, Amanda has reached that point,
as has Katie to a certain extent, but Amanda's US-based, which is a much bigger market.
And so if they want to do it, Jake and I will do everything in
our power to make it happen. Lots of feathers in your collective caps. If you could get the
Croke Park one done, I think that would be a massive one. I know you're not Katie's promoter,
but is there any part of you that would like to check that one off the list as well?
If Amanda is open to it, we will do everything we can jake has already promised that he would
reach out to president trump to help with that like one of the things we heard many times is
the security costs are just too high we don't care about the costs we want to do disruptive
mega events and that would certainly be that but i could i could imagine amanda saying
why do you want me to go into the lion's den in front of whatever capacity is there 70 80 000
people how does that set me up for success and so if that's her perspective i fully understand it
and we you know we as i said work with katie and amanda to get to the right outcome i mean
we had a great experience with Katie and her team.
They were tremendous to work with every step of the way.
Katie is the lady of ladies, just like Amanda is.
And Katie's team was responsive, was honest, was like just perfect in every step of this
process.
So we hope we get to work with them again.
And just for the record, Brian Peters, her manager, went out of his way to tell me the
same thing about how you guys treated them and that he was really impressed with the whole week.
That does lead to the friction maybe between you and Eddie. I have to be honest, when I was
interviewing Katie, I wasn't all there focused on her because out of the corner of my eye,

Your take on what transpired and any regret in the aftermath?
I think my only regret is giving Katie Taylor the option
to have Eddie Hearn in the ring.
We don't have promoters in the ring.
We don't walk with our fighters.
We don't sit and take their moment in the ring
ahead of the fight.
Just a different philosophy, right?
Very, very different philosophy.
But when it got to fight day,
I said to my team,
because Matt Shroom had reached out
at least a hundred times around Eddie Hearn
having access to the ring,
that if Katie wants
Eddie in the ring, just let me know. And I didn't get a message from Katie, but I got a message from
Brian saying Katie would like it. And within, I think 30 seconds, I said, absolutely no problem.
Having seen how he behaved in the ring, I kind of wish I didn't do that, but end of the day, we're about the fighters.
And if that made Katie happy, great. I think what's really telling is if you go to the match
room, social media handles post fight, they didn't post Katie Taylor. They posted, um, the one 26
fighter that they have from sky Nicholson that's who they posted how is that possible like
why are you positioning her against amanda versus celebrating katie's massive moment
that's a very different philosophy than we how we think about it
and so does any of this do you think get in the way of it do you understand what i'm saying there
like how does her promotion not recognize her massive victory on the biggest women's event in history ever?

But instead you're positioning this fighter who's never sold a ticket in her life, hasn't headlined an event in her life, hasn't fought in her home country once.

I've seen Boots Ennis talk about, oh, I don't need to talk now because Eddie Hearn does the talking for me. That's the wrong way to look at it because no one is paying Eddie Hearn to watch you for you to fight because Eddie Hearn says X, Y, or Z. No one. You have to build yourself. You have to
sell yourself. You have to make fans connect with you as an athlete and want to spend their time,
attention, and pocket dollars on you. That's how you need to be. We as the brand behind you need
to do a great job of positioning you, marketing you, putting you in the right place, telling
engaging stories, constantly pushing you on social media, which is the most important form of communication in the
world today.
But the fighter has to do their part and MVP is all about the fighter.
Last thing on this fight, I just want to get your take on it because a lot of people were
mad that Jordan Maldonado said that she was leading with the head, that she was fighting
dirty.
I know Amanda has since sort of apologized for saying that in her post
afterwards that she had the utmost respect and whatnot.
Do you feel after watching it on TV that this was a calculated effort on,
on Katie's part to lead with the head to head,
but to cut her open?
Absolutely a calculated effort to use her head to her advantage.
Absolutely not a calculated effort to cut amanda serrano those are two
different things right at the end of that first round katie was stunned by an amanda punch
everyone saw it it's on you know 100 and 125 million have watched the overall event 74 million
have watched that fight everyone saw that i think think she adjusted her strategy and did so effectively.
But of course, there was a lot of headbutts as a result of that strategy. And one of those headbutts
led to one of the gnarliest cuts you've seen in women's boxing, right? And I think if they would
have called the fight in round five or six, I think Amanda would have won. But Amanda's a warrior,
and she wasn't stopping.
And Katie continued to target the cut, which I don't think is being dirty.
I think of that as being tactically smart, right?

So West Village is incredible.

It's an amazing, I love the magic of TV and the history of TV and, you know, the NBC Nightly News and SNL and The Tonight Show. And
I love all that stuff. And I tend to romanticize about those like 50s and 60s,
you know, that era of TV. And it's a great time. So if that's open, if that's available,
I highly recommend it as well. And then you could go to the Upper East and the Upper West,
but now it's a little bit more suburban, if you will.

I would say that there are more interesting names
