Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Aria Hawani Show!
The Aria Hawani Show is back in your life on this Tuesday, November 26, 2000.
And 24.
Hello again, everyone.
I gotta say, it's starting to feel good.
It's starting to feel just like old times, like an old glove, right?
Do you feel that too, Frank?
I do.
Look at that little subscribe thingy.
I thought we were going to put the...
No?
Ding!
Yeah.
Well, it's great to be here on a very rainy...
As you can see, I mean, I don't even need to tell you guys about the weather anymore, right?
It's just very rainy.
It's very doom and gloom outside.
But it's great inside and we're feeling good.
The vibes are high.
Massive win for
my New York Knicks on the road against the Denver Nuggets last night. I was staying up late to watch
the West Coast, or I should say maybe Midwest offering. And the greatest development in my
life at the moment is that my middle son, Walter, who is turning into the mini version of me each
and every day, refused to go to bed and wanted to stay up to watch the entire thing despite the fact that we were up
by like 30 points. It's all very exciting.
It's all very exciting. By the way, I just
noticed something.
GC. Oh, you know
what? Okay, my bad. I thought
you put this guy in there
instead of the turkey hat
but then I noticed the turkey hat is right there.
Let's get it together, man.
Yeah. Working through the kicks together, man. Yeah.
Working through the cakes, working through the cakes.
You know, hopefully everyone enjoyed yesterday's show and hopefully you realize that not only are we the number one show
for all things combat sports,
but also the number one show for all things financial as well.
Moicano wants money, you know, hit the road. I'd buy that for a dollar. Yeah. All kinds
of hot takes regarding the financial advice that was. And we wanted you guys to really pay attention
to the advice. So we picked the, you know, the most anticipated interview of the day to feature
it in. So I think it worked out well for everyone.
Wouldn't you say so, Frank?
1,000 pounds.
It was the perfect Yahoo Finance plug.
It was.
It was.
My only regret is that they didn't get Rampage.
Can you imagine if he was describing his diet on Yahoo Finance?
Some guy on Wall Street tuning in, hoping for financial advice,
and he gets Rampage Jackson. Yeah, my face is thinner because i've been yeah come on man it would have been
it might have been the end of us here at yahoo um or the beginning of something incredible or
the beginning rampage on yahoo finance as a regular guest yeah of all the guests that you
can you know potentially you know play with fire with on,
you know, a simulcast situation.
Yeah, he might be the guy.
He's high.
I don't think he's number one, but he's high up there.
Pretty freaking high.
I'm trying to think who'd be worse.
Yeah.
There's some I can, I don't want to,
I don't want to say names because they will be guests
and I don't want to cast aspersions, but yeah,
that was a moment.
That was a moment.
It was a moment. It was one of the great moments
in the history of the program as we continue
to, as they say in the business,
work through the kinks over here, work through the kinks.
Thumbs up to the chat, by the way. Thumbs up to the chat.
Thumbs up to everyone watching. We have a

on today's episode or tonight's episode
and talk about some big news that just broke,
actually courtesy of Dan Raphael,
about the much-rumored February 22nd
Riyadh season card.
So that is coming up today.
So we're going back to back.
We're playing two,
as the great Ernie Banks once said.
As far as this show is concerned, we do have a lot to discuss and a lot of people are stopping by.
Four guests in total.
Back into the show, King Rye, Ryan Garcia is going to be stopping by.
Ryan Garcia, who is fighting on December the 31st in a special bout under the Ryzen umbrella
it's actually co-promoted by FanMio
and Ryzen it's a boxing exhibition
between Ryan Garcia and
Rukayo Anpo

excluding Japan 153 pound bout with full boxing rules
implemented across eight two-minute rounds.
Ryan Garcia is going to take part in a press conference later today.
He'll stop by our program at around 3 o'clock to discuss this all first.
Prior to that, we are going to be joined by Brennan Loughnane,
who is headlining the PFL
championship card this Friday, Black Friday in Saudi Arabia. And they just announced about two
hours ago that elbows are going to be allowed for the, I believe, no, it's not I believe, it is. I
confirmed it actually with PFL first time in in the in the championship that uh elbows will be allowed in all
the championship ballots so that is very exciting stuff we'll talk to brandon lochnane about it
rosie perez the great rosie perez who of course was on the call for the netflix jake paul versus
mike tyson bout she will join us at two o'clock an honor to be joined by a hollywood legend of
course of white man can jump and do the right fame, as well as many, many, many other great films and TV shows.
And at around 1.15, we'll be joined by Platinum Mike Perry to talk about the Dirty Boxing debut and all things Platinum Perry.
A few, there you go.
There's the lineup.
A few items to discuss, though,
at the very top. There continues to be a ton of updates pertaining to the Conor McGregor story
that came to a head on Friday with the verdict that we talked about at length on yesterday's
program and on the crack on Friday. After yesterday's show, Connor actually posted a statement, which I haven't
checked if he has taken it down, but I thought it was an interesting one to share with all of you.
Here it is in case you missed it. People want to hear from me. I needed time. I know I made mistakes
six years ago. I should have never responded to her outreaches. I should have shut the party down.
I should have never stepped out on the woman
I love the most in the world.
That's all on me.
As much as I regret it,
everything that happened that night was consensual
and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath.
I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision.
So we were discussing that yesterday.
There's the answer.
I can't go back and I will move forward.
I am beyond grateful to my family,
friends and supporters all over the world who have
stayed by my side.
That's it.
No more getting back to the gym.
The fight game awaits.
That fight is one that we are waiting to see whether it materializes in 2025.
Dana White has said he will return in 2025.
That's one of the big questions.
That tweet is still up as of right now. It follows the decision by a jury in the high court last week that McGregor had assaulted hairstylist Nikita Hand, to whom he must now pay €248,000 in damages.
Proximo Spirits bought the whiskey brand from McGregor in 2021, but he continued to promote proper number 12 whiskey and proper number 12 apple whiskey on social media.
However, the company said today it was ending the association.
Here's the quote.
Since 2021, Proximo Spirits has been the 100% owner of Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey.
Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr. McGregor's name and likeness in the marketing of the brand.
That is a major development because he is most associated with proper number 12 and all things proper number 12, the apple whiskey and the actual whiskey itself.
Other grocery stores and convenience stores have announced that they are not going to be carrying the products as well. Super Value,
Sentra, Tesco, Mace carry out off-license, Cost Cutter, Super Value and Tesco are grocery stores
in the region. Sentra, Mace, Cost Cutter are convenience stores carry out an off-license,
which I guess is a type of place where you can get alcohol, I do believe. PT would
be great in a situation like this. But the point being, there are dominoes that are falling.
We spoke about the Hitman video game yesterday as well. So yeah, the story continues to develop.
Connor says he is going to appeal.
Let us see if that actually goes through.
I mentioned yesterday on the show that he has 28 days from the verdict.
And so here we go.
28 days.
The clock is ticking. 28 days from November the 22nd.
If my math is correct, eight days in November 20, that would be December 20th
would be the deadline if my math is correct. So let us see, it continues to develop. Yesterday,
also while we were live, Most Valuable Promotions posted a lengthy statement regarding the accusations that the Mike Tyson versus Jake
Paul fight was rigged. I want to read some of it. I will say I am surprised that this has come out.
Obviously, I'm not on the front lines and I'm not seeing everything that they are seeing and feeling,
but I am surprised that they addressed it. Here is the statement from Most Valuable Promotions regarding fictitious,
as they put it, claims that undermine the integrity of the Paul versus Tyson fight.
Following the wide circulation of incorrect and baseless claims that undermine the integrity of
the Paul versus Tyson event, MVP, Most Valuable Promotions would like to set the record straight
regarding the contractual agreements and the nature of the fight. Rigging a professional
boxing match is a federal crime in the United States of America.
Paul versus Tyson was a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, TDLR.
Both fighters in good faith performed to the best of their abilities.
With the goal of winning the fight, there were absolutely no restrictions, contractual or otherwise, around either fighter. Each boxer was able to use his full arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary would violate TDLR boxing rules. It continues.
Trash talk and speculation are common in sports and athletes and promoters need to tolerate
nonsensical commentary, jokes, and opinions. But suggesting anything other than the full effort
from these fighters is not only naive, but an insult to the work they put into their craft and to the sport itself.
I'll read this last paragraph here. The rest is online.
It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world's biggest streamer,
an organization that made its first foray into live professional sports with Paul versus Tyson,
would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition now i understand why
they would want to clear the air i think that this stuff is ludicrous i know it's cool to put
out videos i know it's cool to to make uh tiktoks and reels about this and conspiracies and he moved
his arm and whatnot uh i think it's quite simple. You saw
a 28-year-old fight a 58-year-old. The 28-year-old arguably lost the first round, maybe the second,
then started to dominate. Then by the last couple of rounds, very clear the fight was over
and took his foot off the gas. No different, in my opinion, than if the Buffalo Bills are up on the
New England Patriots in the fourth quarter, up by 30, they don't keep throwing the ball into the
end zone. They take their foot off the gas. The New York Knicks are up on the Denver Nuggets
by 25 in the last five minutes. They put in the bench warmers, they take their foot off the gas.
That is not ruining the sanctity of the
game that is not fixing a game that is not any sort of you know shadiness that's just sports
now in fighting we see this all the time i mean people were saying that canelo took his foot off
the gas uh against jaime munguia uh when he was up big back in may given the respect that he has
for munguia and they're both Mexican, et cetera, et cetera.
So I think people took that as, hey, this was fixed or, hey, there was a rule that, you know, he can't be knocked out or, hey, they had an agreement that it would go past the fifth or sixth.
I think it's all nonsense.
It's hogwash.
It's fueled by people maybe being upset that they bet on a knockout or bet on Tyson to win or just feeling like they were
robbed of some kind of moment that they had convinced themselves was going to happen. Not
a pay-per-view. I saw there was a class action lawsuit. Like, I don't even know what could you
even be suing for. It wasn't pay-per-view. It was part of your regular subscription. In any event,
they addressed it. I kind of thought, eh, do you really need to? Because this is the thing that keeps coming up. It came up in the Woodley fight. It came up in the Anderson fight. It came up in the Diaz fight. It comes up before the fight even happens with these, you know, with these Jake Paul fights. But in the end, they addressed it. And hopefully everyone at this point can move on, Can move on with life In a matter of moments
We are going to be joined by
Mike Perry
I did want to talk about
Dirty Boxing Championship
Because we talked about it yesterday
And how cool it looked
And how the debut was
It was positioned as some sort of
Like
You know, VIP event, which I thought
was quite smart. Black tie-ish, close to the public, close to the media, select clips put out
there. And there were some great moments. We talked about the Yoel Romero moment. We talked
about the Superman punch. Didn't really talk about the rules. So I just want to bring people up to speed on the rules before we bring Mike on.
And Mike is the face of the company and very instrumental in everything that they're doing.

there in July when they announced it to the world and was very intrigued. And then was very intrigued
when they announced that there will be an event that is closed off to the public and just kind of
disseminated via social media on Saturday evening. I think it
got a lot of attention and a lot of buzz and wanted to talk to the CEO of Dirty Boxing
Championship, the one and only Platinum Mike Perry. There he is. Hey, Mike, how are you?
What's up, Barry? I'm doing well. How are you doing, brother?
I'm doing great. Congratulations on the first event. I went through all the rules there, went through everything. Can't wait to talk to you about it all.
Before we get into the fun stuff, obviously around a month and a half or so ago, there was some not on the legal proceedings and if you wanted to talk about it or update your fan base and the public about what went down. Just small troubles, nothing too severe, and definitely moving forward, being much better.
I was just driving a little aggressively and got pulled over for it and was angry when they asked me to get out of the car and everything that ensued, you know, I gave an
apology for calling those guys out of their name. You know, I support the police and what they do.
You know, who's my mother or my wife going to call if I'm not there and they need some protection, you know. So I definitely support that.
And I already got a lot on my plate going on,
and it's just more that I have to do now in order to go through, you know.
Maybe people don't know about this, but when you lose your license
and then there's law side and then there's administrative side and I got some classes I got to do.
And, you know, just got to go through the details with everything.
And it's costing me a little bit of money.
And, you know, it was just it was a waste.
And, you know, got to be better. Moving forward and everything, I've got too much going on, too much on my plate,
and I need to stay focused, tunnel vision, handle my business as a professional.
There's no way you want to get bored.
You don't want to get bored and get
yourself in trouble. So stay out of trouble and, uh, follow the speed limit. Yes, sir. Uh, just
one other follow-up on this. Are there any other dates or, you know, any other sort of steps
timeline that is, uh, you know, coming up for you that you have to, that you have to, you know, you have to, you have to set aside set aside time to deal with this so that you are
free and clear to resume your life? I'm pretty good about just handling things as they come.
Every now and then, it seems like a couple things will happen on the same day and I might have to move one or two.
I do got to make some calls and move some things around because there are some things coming up in January that are not solidified yet.
And, you know, it's like, how long do we wait? We got to push everything to the last minute.
And you got to be prepared to just make sacrifices and do what you need to do and put things
in a priority order, what's most important.
And I just try to stack them all on the calendar and get them done one at a time.
When you talk about January, are you referring to Knucklemania 5?
Well, I would like to fight.
There's some interesting folks out there trying to make matchups and challenges and and uh bare knuckle has a good one on on the you know a good challenge for me and and um i would love to see that come to fruition um
i would love to get back in the ring and you you know, a bit of redemption.
Bare Knuckle is, I'm good at it, you know.
I'm tough.
My head will hurt your hands and my hands will hurt your face, you know. And, you know, going through the rules of a boxing match like I did last time,
you know, and trying to redeem myself in the boxing ring when I've always been a different kind of fighter, you know and trying to redeem myself in the boxing ring when I've always been a different
kind of fighter you know if I've seen some things you know even Jorge Masvidal was saying you know
are we talking a real fight or are we talking we write all the rules down until you know if it's
a street matchup if it's a bar brawl I'll sign me up man put me in there and i'm ready to
get wild and and um i i want to redeem myself anyways in combat sports on on the side of
fighting as as i move on to promotership um you know so that i'm good on both sides of that and you know it was incredible seeing someone
like Yoel you know how is that guy 234 pounds we were like the same size and he's he's just so
solid and I think you know he's the age that Jake would like to try i think that's a that's a possible matchup
they should possibly make man with yoel romero versus jake paul and uh my my brother mi hermano
joey would uh put a whooping on jake for me so you know when when they came out and we're gonna
get to duty boxing but we just took a left turn here real quick uh when they came out with the uh the the knucklemania news i was like well mike
you are the face of bkfc you have to be on that card so is it basically down to there is an offer
on the table you just have to see if it's going to work out that you're going to be able to go
to philadelphia and could a is that accurate and b could i ask is there an opponent attached to this offer and uh could you tell us who it is
i cannot tell you because it doesn't seem you know like the he wants i don't know if he wants
to accept the challenge i don't know what's taking so long i i know david fellman wanted
to bring me to philadelphia for the first ever bare knuckle card in Philadelphia. He's been
wanting to bring it home and I know he would want to have me on the card, uh, being as I am the most
exciting bare knuckle fighter, uh, that people tend to tune in to watch. And, you know, um,
who knows if it'll be pushed.
You know, I possibly was going to fight before the end of the year.
That got pushed.
That was fine to me.
January sounded really good.
I would love to start the year off with a banger.
And, you know, depending on what happens, you know, I do have three fights left on my contract with Bare Knuckle.
I would love to fight those fights.
And 2025 might be an even bigger year for me,
as big as all the years have kept growing for me.
2025, Bare Knuckle, everything's been real quiet.
Nothing much has been said, but the fans know that i need to come back in there uh and so that would confirm
uh you have not been fired by bare knuckle right it's that's a funny little joke that we seem to
talk about every time i get on camera um you know do you guys think con Conor McGregor's done making money?
Because you need me in bare knuckle if we really want to make a splash.
All right.
That would confirm it.
Okay, so let's see what happens with January 25th. Now we go back to dirty boxing.
Like I said, I was there.
It was the night before the Jake Paul fight.
You made the announcement.
You had the press conference. You know, we had a bit of a hiatus,
so I've actually not had you on the show. I haven't had a chance to talk to you about all of
this since the summertime. And so could I ask, when did this idea start? Like, how did this all
come about? You being involved with dirty boxing, being the CEO. I know you've got Abe there. You've
got Adam Kovacs, formerly of Karate Combat. You've
got Kawa, Malky, and the other Malky. You got the whole FRM crew. How did this all, like,
what's the genesis of it all? We have a great squad put together. I believe this started a
couple years ago. I believe media was asking me such questions as, you know, if you weren't a fighter, what would you be doing or what would you want to do?
And I believe I said promoting. P platinum promotions, um, you know, to be the, a Dana white type of guy who's just living
his best life and gets to throw on the fights.
I've always loved going to the fights, you know, when I'm, when I'm there, I want to
get in on the action.
Um, but also just sit back and enjoying the action that the fighters are putting on
um the all the guys and girls gave me great respect uh at the show they were excited to perform
and you know uh i've had lots of interviews and and talks and and lots of questions kept coming
up in the past couple years.
You know, what would I be doing?
How would I do it?
What would I want to see if I was Dana White or if I was a promoter making a fight league?
And, you know, it was possible that things were going to be bare knuckle even. And, you know, I put the rules together. I thought as we had meetings with the team down in Malky's office in Miami, we put things together and I said it should be this way. I said, I think we'll get great fighters if we put small gloves on. We have a chance to reach a different audience and a different group of athletes as far as boxers themselves. They just put a little smaller glove on. They probably want to try it out, see how punching somebody like that would be um shit i went to russia
i saw it live you know and and they were boxing with four ounce mma gloves on and um i put these
ideas together you know i said uh with my mvp fight when i dropped him in the first round
i wanted to keep hitting him uh because he's so
tough and you know I didn't want to just let him back up I wanted to try to keep hitting him
and I thought that if we get a knock down with a good strike there should be a chance to follow to finish your fight.
Adding elbows to boxing also, this is just
such a treat for the fan base.
The way that the fights go,
all the action, the power punches, they're slipping and rolling and throwing big hooks.
And if they wobble their opponent and they're guarding too heavy, you can elbow straight through the guard, up the middle.
And if you drop them, you ground and pound them.
The kicks slow it down.
In my opinion, I think this has a real shot to be so popular.
I love the name and I love the concept.
And I actually, you know, I know some people were kind of upset on Saturday that it wasn't streaming live.
And I think that comes from a place of they wanted to consume it.
But I think it was kind of brilliant on two fronts.
It created an appetite for it it created
buzz and then once the clip started to come out the look of the event reminded me of like an old
1920s boxing warehouse smoker type vibe which i thought was super super cool and so could i ask
uh and we're seeing some of the highlights here and this is yoel uh you know picking up the huge
knockout win in the main event i'll ask you about him but just the idea of of putting it on closing it off to you
know a streaming platform to the public making it a sort of exclusive event what what went into that
and and then also the the look of it all what went into that how did you fall on this because i think you guys nailed it with how it came across you know we had a lot of good people in the building and um we were happy
to have them there you know we wish we could have invited everyone or streamed but it was a concept, and we needed to showcase to see if it works.
And I think it works.
And trust me, we want to share this with people.
But there are some things we have to tweak, and we only want to release the best.
And, you know, because all these people involved are, we're all for high quality.
You know what I mean?
Not quantity.
We don't want to just shove crap down your throats. We want to make a very quality product.
We were able to put on a good show, but there are some tweaks we need to make.
And we want to come back in 2025, early 2025, and have our first live stream show,
depending on how that works and who we're going to work with in order to do that. We are talking with some big names, big companies,
and we just want to deliver the best possible quality product
to the fan base so that we become a force to be reckoned with
and waiting until the last minute to announce our main event
uh because we knew we had such a quality name in the main event and and he performed
so greatly is exactly what we were looking for and um and every fight was better than the last you know the the whole night just kept
growing and growing and getting better and and more intense and more quality on the matchups and
i think our matchmakers did a great job uh who put and we had the old school boxing look, a street dirty boxing style. style uh we wanted to make it feel like we wanted it to show you know like the the smoky effects the
the nightclub style fight um you know just a a quick intensity of moments and and um
you know that's another thing i i believe i had a hand in coming up with the time frames of the fights and the matchups.
We stuck it at three-minute rounds, three three-minute rounds and five three-minute rounds for the main event.
And we're happy with what we got out of everything, but there are some adjustments we need to make, some things that we couldn't have known about until we put on the show, some additions we need to add as far as lighting, scale, how to make it more scalable you know just how to deliver it to the masses
by the way can i just say as an aside as someone uh who has the ugly habit of uh biting his nails
for his whole life i can't stop staring at your nails because they're so like perfect and long
i just want to bite them all off is that weird a little bit that is extremely weird that
you said you want to bite my nails i mean how do you keep them that long i mean that's just
are they are they are they ripe for a cutting or i have good good uh quality calcium okay my blood
and my bones and so my nails get long you know when they get longer than this i clip them down but then
they'll grow back out in a few days and it's nice if i ever have an itch i need to scratch or
uh want to scratch my wife's back or sure something like that you know they're just so
long and like perfect uh and if i get into a street fight I would Jag somebody's eye out
Would you fight with nails that long
Or do you have to cut them before
Remember my debut
Oh that's right yes
I didn't mean to do that
It wasn't on purpose
But it's so satisfying right
In boxing when you put your hand in the glove
The nails really dig in there
Oh geez
You can hold that glove real tight Yes When you put your hand in the glove, the nails really dig in there. Oh, geez.
You can hold that glove real tight.
Yes.
Okay, back to dirty boxing.
Do you think the next one will be available live to the public?
You know, yes, early next year.
I don't know.
You know, I don't know. I think it's a 50-50. It's a little more 60-40 right now.
60% yes, we're going public with it. We want to share it with the world.
At the same time, we got a lot of money coming to us for private endorsements um well uh private shows you know uh club tables uh uh owners events
and and things like that um depending on how we would use that to make money you know that's
that's the idea but i believe we want to definitely give it to the public or even offer a pay-per-view for the public.
I think it could be a very quality product that they would enjoy watching.
It's a very entertaining style of combat.
Yes. Oh my gosh, we saw a bunch of it.
And I'm just curious, florida commission sanctioned this absolutely um
shout out to the florida state athletic commission uh the referees did a great job in there protecting
the fighters and um you know the all the judges and and everyone who was involved we all had a
great time enjoying the show it was um it you know It made us feel a little special that it was a private event,
but we did share a ton with the public as far as social media goes.
They didn't get to necessarily watch it live.
We did speak about we were going to attempt to make a stream that night,
at least one of the fights.
And I was saying, you know, the main event would be the one to do it with.
But I don't think that was able to come through in time.
Everything kind of just happened so quick.
And then, you know, the world got to see it anyways.
We were happy to see a 47 year old yoel romero yeah looking
looking like he does what a tank he's he's a specimen i can let people know here's a little
plug that there's a behind the scenes docu-series called down and dirty that's live right now
i'm told on the dirty boxing championship youtube channel you guys have been putting out some great
stuff there so for those that want to see more of the behind the scenes, how this all went down and more footage from that night,
there are five episodes out right now. Season finale comes out on Friday with more behind the
scenes access from this past weekend's event. So that is the Dirty Boxing Championship YouTube
channel. You had a lot of luminaries there uh john jones ben rothwell
page van zandt jorrell miller uh must have been nice to have some of your fellow fighters and frm
clients in attendance you and john in particular i also saw uh you taking some body shots from ben
like scale of one to ten how hard was he going um you know that wasn't the first time me and ben were punching on each other
uh i believe i believe in joku was in the house too uh we got a lot of great
support from a lot of great people you know frm is very well connected
and uh we were happy to give them all a good show big ben always you know you see how when those punches he was pushing me with the
shots so heavy i mean but i was eating them shots and and i did it with him before and one of them
finally got through uh but i i tried to hit him a little harder this time and i and then i still
had work to do so i i shut that one down quickly. What's with all these heavyweights trying to fight me, man?
There's weight classes.
I guess it's just the Platinum Prairie name.
Yes, though.
Please go watch Down and Dirty on the Dirty Boxing Championship YouTube channel.
Down and Dirty is a great six-part series, I believe we put together, of of about 16 minute episodes of us building the show
uh prior to the release and and things like that we got roy jones jr on there um he's a part of the
company as well he he wasn't able to make it to the event but he'll definitely want to be at the
next one uh speaking at the next one
speaking of the next one i remember in july when you were talking about this you said that you
would compete on one of the cards um if things don't work out with knucklemania do you think
that your next fight will be under the dirty boxing umbrella that's that's a tough call um
i would i mean i would love to do my my know, get some things going with my bare knuckle contract, especially with all the fans talking about, you know, if I was fired or not.
Like, I need to, like, you guys bare knuckle, come to bat for your boy over here and get me a dang fight uh so i'm not out here looking silly
because we want to get these fights through on the contract and i want to put on entertaining
events for the fans i mean bare knuckle does have a spectacular uh je ne sais say, when, when, uh, I hit people in the jaw,
you know,
and I mean,
two minutes,
fast pace,
very exciting,
bare knuckle stuff.
I would love to do it.
But after watching dirty boxing,
I was very intrigued to want to join in on the action and get in the ring and
fight there as well.
You know?
So I think I'm just itching to get back in a camp get to training
full-time again you know I get it here and there I was going hard last week and then I think I got
sick I don't know but you know I had to take a couple days off and then all the business stuff
came through and I had a lot of things I needed to take care of, but I would love to get back full time twice a day in the gym and, and
have something to prepare, prepare for. I would just need, you know, just, just an opportunity
guys. Let's do it. And let's, uh, I want to showcase my skills to the world again.
By the way, being in that promoter slash CEO role, not just from like
a photo op standpoint, you know, it's fun to see you in between the fighters when they're facing
off, but just all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes when you're putting on an event,
now that it's come and gone, I can imagine it's very, very stressful and there's a lot to deal
with and it will only get more stressful as you continue to grow. Did you enjoy it? You've been now on both sides of the fence, right? Just the
fighter, you walk into the arena, you fight, you leave, you cash your check, but now you're doing
a lot more and there's a lot more to worry about. Did you enjoy that role? Yeah, I did. You know,
I think I was prepared for everything as it came. you know, I have, I have great help.
And, you know, if you tell me, uh, if you help me understand what needs to be done,
I can find a way to get it done. And, um, you know, once the show was there,
it was, and it was happening and it was all beautiful and coming together very nicely.
Um, everyone involved, all the fans all the
audience everyone was having a good time i was happy to see all the smiling faces of everyone
enjoying their night um and you know it did it was interesting because right after the event it
seemed like you you think there's going to be a halting point
or a breaking, a break point where you get to rest for a moment. And it was more work. It was
more work to do instantly. As soon as it was over, I had more work I needed to get done.
And I still have some work I need to get done. So, you know, more meetings, more talks, more video calls, more tele over, it gave us an avenue to see what we needed to tweak and how to make the most out of it and to drop it onto people so that they could enjoy it as well. So, you know, creating something that people want, you know, supply and demand,
uh, they're demanding it. We got to supply it. So now I got more work to do.
So, uh, it's, it's, it's very hard to always have, um, you know, just kind of a smooth ride,
smooth sailing, uh, part of the, the buzz on Saturday, I think, um, that worked in your
favor was the fact
that you put them out in these little clips it was closed off there was nothing really going on
in the world of combat sports on saturday night nothing really competing with you ufc was in the
morning and then in the immediate aftermath um karate combat gets involved and and so can i ask
you uh about this as much as you can speak on it? The president of karate combat, Asim Zaidi, saying that Anvar Boy Nasarov, who was involved in that fight with the Superman punch, signed with KC three weeks ago.
And I saw him and Malky, one of your managers at FRM and obviously a part of part of the dirty boxing team, really going at it back and forth all day on Saturday and Sunday. Um, is there any
sort of take on your side, um, of the fence as to what happened here? Is he telling the truth
and where do things stand? Oh, okay. Things with Anvar, you know, we tried to work with Asim. I spoke with him on the phone. He kept trying to close the door in my face as far as getting that fight done. He offered something that the commission would not agree to. I offered him percentages of the purse. I offered him money to allow them to go through
without a hitch, without all this animosity. And he has Anvar no fights, no money has been given to Anvar.
And all of the sudden, last minute, they want to say that he had a fight coming in February
when he had not been given a bout agreement or a contract for this fight.
He had not been offered a matchup,
but as soon as they found out that he was fighting for us, you know, they're, they're scared of us.
They've added elbows to their rule set, which is great, but they did that because we were coming
out with this sport. Um, and you know, they have an issue because our CEO is someone who used to, who built their
company. He built the company. They are doing anything they can because of money that is owed
to some of our business partners. And they, you know know they don't want to pay this money so
they're using any excuse they can build with this silly uh call out about because they're
you know if things go to court if lawyers do get involved then they don't want to have to pay, you know, over millions to, to the people,
the partners that we have on our side. And, you know, we, we were taking all the attention
and, you know, I thought it was funny because what do they have like over a million followers
and we're over here with 40,000 followers so make sure y'all go follow
dirty boxing official on instagram uh where you know he said things such as the more avenues for
fighters uh the better the more opportunities that they have the better uh then they try to lock
people down apparently and you know even the fan base was saying any exclusive contracts
outside of the ufc is absolutely ridiculous and um you know uh we went ahead we're not to be
pushed around and we have a lot of power people powerful people involved in creating dirty boxing and they
are all fans of combat sports and we wanted to give the fighters an avenue to perform and become
stars and i mean anbar has been fighting forever i believe his record is like 90 and 30 and um you know we were trying to give him a show to showcase his
skills and and the fight was great it was a great matchup and um you know it worked out so so i'm
not sure where it goes from here uh i believe there may be a public apology coming from their side. Oh, wow.
That's what I've heard.
Wow.
So essentially saying, we're backing off.
Yeah, you know, they had nothing to get attention from besides our show, and they weren't allowed to be there they they um there were some of their fighters were there in the audience and and i was hanging out with them and um you know it's i'm a fighter
myself so given given these guys the chance to be greater uh to showcase everything, all their talents and all the hard training that they do in a sport
that, you know, they want to compete in. That's what we're here for. And we want to deliver that
to the fan base so that they can enjoy the entertainment. All right. So let's see how that
transpires. I did want to ask you about a video that I also saw from Saturday.
I thought it was kind of joking you and Tristanistan ham but then it seemed like it went from zero to 100 real quick
was that legit was what was going on there between you two well he asked me for a face-off and then
he starts moving his head on me and then you know i'm i'm promoting the show so So as I pushed him back and I see that table that was behind him was
John Jones group table and, and ice bags group table. And, um, you know, I didn't want to throw
him on that table and mess up all the, all the, the setups that we had over there. So I, I stopped,
I paused, you know, you know, he wanted to make it a little aggressive face off. He's like, we can we do a face off? I'm like, OK, sure. I follow him on Instagram. I know Tristan Ham. That was my first time meeting him. But I've followed some of his stuff. He's an influencer fighter and and he's trying to break the grounds of influencer to being recognized as this true athlete, true fighter.
And, you know, I think I thought I thought he made a face during the video, the face off when when I was grabbing him where he was like, oh, he's kind of strong.
And, you know, I didn't want to rip my suit or nothing so i just
we kind of calmed it down abe was there he's with both of us and um you know we're just
we want to fight he wants to fight because he wants recognition and he wants to challenge himself
and you know to fight an influencer who has the followers, you know, he talked about even possible bare bare knuckle.
I don't know. And then bare knuckle shared it. Maybe they'd be interested in something like that.
That would be a 175. I would prefer a 185 pound matchup and bare knuckle as I just had a fight at 200 pounds not long ago. And, you know, I've performed
well at 185. So depending, you know, everybody wants to put all these things in the contract.
They want to meet here, meet there, and they want to make things harder for someone to be
able to compete. But I'm the name, I'm the face, I'm the show,
I'm the fight in the fight world. So, you know, let's meet up at some of my rules and my rules aren't rules. They're, they're more so less rules. I want less rules involved. I want less bullshit.
I'm going to show up and I'm a beat your ass on fight night. That's what I want to do so you know Tristan depending on who wants to make it
happen they know who to call first round management can handle all these cases uh I don't have to do
these things I don't have to talk about these things well I mean I could talk about them but
I don't have to like get on the con get on the phone about the contract, get to make it happen. I don't have to talk about the numbers.
My numbers are, you know, they can be found and you got to pay. So, you know, you want me to
perform, you're going to get an entertaining show out of it. And, you know, just brutality
at its finest, Platinum Mike Perry. We were just having a little fun there. And Tristan, you know just brutality at his finest platinum mike period we were just having a little fun there
and tristan you know he wanted to keep it pg-13 but i wanted to make it r so
um okay let's see how that plays out last topic because it is the first time that we speak since
july could i just ask you know some four months removed from the jake fight when you look back on it what do you wish you could
have done differently in that fight you know it's um you know there were some things, you know, like I wish I could have put on more weight, gotten over 200 pounds and cut.
I tried.
I tried so hard, but I also trained so hard that I just my weight just never went up i was staying right around that weight and i drank seven glasses of water before
i went and stepped on the scale just to be a couple pounds heavier like um some i saw a breakdown
video today where they were talking about you know some positive things i did in the fight and
uh you know stopping the force clinch from him and and and, you know, hearing your commentary during the fight like I needed to make it dirtier.
And there were times when I came all the way back and I was in the fight and my energy wasn't wasn't great because I was utilizing my energy and in certain areas to stay up on my feet.
I was top heavy because of the heavy weight.
My legs, I wish I would have ran some sprints.
I needed more time to get more road work in
and have my legs adjust to the top heavy weight that I added on
because I had never fought at such a big weight class.
You know, the first fight I've done in the last three, four years that I wasn't drug tested,
which was very interesting to me considering Jake Paul and everything he had coming up with
the Mike Tyson. You know, I stepped in and I got to step in for Mike Tyson.
And it's like,
whether I felt ready or not,
I've had other fights that I wasn't sure.
I didn't know if I was ready for,
and I fought my ass off anyways and,
and was able to get the wins.
And,
you know,
Jake did a good job.
He had his footwork.
He had his team.
He moved his legs.
Well, his, his legs were. He had his footwork. He had his team. He moved his legs well.
His legs were able to handle that body weight.
And then he goes from weighing in at 200 pounds and he weighs in at 226 for Mike Tyson, who Mike Tyson didn't get knocked down.
But we went the same amount of time.
I got stopped right there at 16 minutes.
And that was the longest fight i ever had in
my professional career and um you know the by the way sorry sorry to interrupt but no no no p test
no nothing no urine test well nothing there was no drug testing that happened in that fight which
i asked for i was like no i want them to drug. I want them to come to me and test me so that I know that they're testing him. But I've also,
you know, heard things like whatever he might be on in order to put on the weight. Cause you know,
he fought Nate Diaz. He fought, he fought Silva at 185 and somehow he's put on all this weight that maybe he's just eating but i'm eating like i eat and i
just couldn't gain weight and stay in shape at the same time and like it's not such a big guy and i
thought i could make it dirtier and and if i did you know i threw him on his head the ref was on me
or when i even when i broke the clinch and punched him in his ear, the refs,
like the back of the head, they're like, that was a clean shot, bro. That's clean fighter,
you know? And, you know, dirty boxing, Jake even said, you know, we do PFL and we do,
we maybe we do dirty boxing, a chance to punch him on the ground, uh, uh, a full MMA fight, a full fight, like, it's a different story, and I had the ability to
be in close with him, and, you know, in boxing, when you're in the clinch,
they're trying to shut that down right away, or Jake, you know, if he clinched me, he tried to
hold me, and I was really good at not letting him get that hold, but then there was times that I saw as we would break I just
didn't have the speed to take off with little flurry combinations um and you know or even
bare knuckle like there's just different styles of fighting and unfortunately I haven't been able to grasp success in boxing when I am quite the boxer and I train boxing at
the gym I spar and but then when I fight it's like I take the gloves off and or even MMA like
I used to knock people out cold in MMA and even sometimes I wouldn't have to follow up with ground and pound but putting my weight on
people and and he was the bigger heavier guy but I still handled his weight I walked him down no
matter what he hit me with I came forward I pressed the action and I just you know it was an
opportunity for me so whenever I felt like i needed more time
that was just never something that i could i i could never have called them and been like oh
you know what i'm just it turns out i'm not ready for this matchup uh no matter what fans have said
um oh i shouldn't have done it like I'd rather not be a pussy and do it
than be a pussy and not do it.
Like, I'm fighting this kid.
I'm going to fight him.
And it was short notice.
It was like less than four weeks
when they called me to make the replacement.
And I started trying to put on weight
and get in shape all at the same time like I just
needed more time but it was time I didn't have and you know he's not I saw him say something
about the better be calling him out and I'm like I responded to that and I'm like you know
you owe me I gave you recognition I built myself up over all these years of battles and the last three years of my undefeated streak.
And I put it all on the line against you in a short notice matchup.
Give me a full camp.
Give me smaller gloves.
Give me different.
Give me less rules.
Tell the ref to stay off my ass and let's fight all right well um perhaps
that comes down the line you have so much going on you've got uh dirty boxing congratulations on
the successful launch congratulations on everything that you have going on um we look forward to
hopefully seeing you back in january knucklemania 5 and perhaps he does grant you that rematch with Les Rules.
Always a pleasure, Mike.
Really appreciate it.
You're the man.
We'll talk to you very soon.
And again, congrats to you and the team.
Thank you, my brother.
I appreciate you.
And shout out to my sponsors.
You know, Young LA is big with the UFC and with combat sports,
and they big with me.
And shout out Bucked Up, man.
Get you some energy, dawg.
All right. There he is, Platinum Mike, man. Get you some energy, dawg. All right.
There he is.
Platinum Mike Perry.
The man, the myth, the legend.
Great stuff, as always, from him.
Covered a lot of ground there.
And we'll keep that conversation rolling now.
We have the great honor of welcoming to the program for the very first time, the first lady of boxing.
The great Teddy Atlas calls her the queen of boxing. In case you don't know,
Oscar and Golden Globe nominated actress for Fearless in 1993, multiple primetime and daytime
Emmy nominations across three different decades. Recently, she's been featured in season two of
Your Honor, before with Billy Crystal, which premiered in October, an Emmy nominated role
on The Flight
Attendant. My two personal favorites, of course, White Men Can't Jump and Do the Right Thing. She's
an absolute living legend, often imitated, never duplicated, and I had the great honor of working
with her about a week and a half or so ago on that Netflix Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson card.
We are talking right now to the one and only, the great Rosie Perez.
There she is.
Hello, Rosie.
How are you?
I'm good.
How are you?
I'm doing great.
Great to have you on.
It's a massive, massive honor.
You have a lot of fans in our control room right over there.
Everyone was very excited that you'd be on.
So thank you so much for this opportunity.
So let's talk because you have been in the boxing news.
Usually you're just a super fan, if you will. But now you are a part of the show. First things first,
how did the opportunity come about for you to be a part of the broadcast? And when you
found out about it, did you jump on it right away? Or did you did you think about it a little bit
because it was a role that you had never been in before? Well, initially, Netflix had called and asked me to be a fight, because I didn't want to participate in
just an exhibition. And, and so, you know, so I said yes to that. And then after I said yes,
they came back and said, we changed our mind. We would like for you to be ringside along with
Mauro and Maury Jones Jr. And I said, no way.
And they said, well, you know what?
Let's just test it out, see how it goes.
And so we did a dry one.
We watched a fight with the sound off and called the fight.
And I commentated.
And at first I was very, very nervous.
And then all of a sudden I just forgot about everything.
And I was just having a blast.
And they kept saying, please, please, please do this.
And it was a little hesitation, but then I said, okay.
And the hesitation came from, I respect the sport so much.
And I respect the people who do what they asked me to do.
You know, I respect everyone from Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, Roy Jr., Paulie Malignaggi, Tim Bradley, Andre Ward.
I could go on and on and on who have done this.
So, yeah, so that's how it came about.
And so it's one thing to do it, you know, kind of in a rehearsal setting like that with Mauro and Roy.
But you get there and it's AT&T Stadium and you see the size and scope of it all.
How were you feeling in the moments before you guys went live?
I was a nervous wreck.
I was hysterical.
I went into the arena and I saw the magnitude of the place.
And I was like, oh, my goodness, this is real.
And what had happened was that I was sitting next to Roy Jr.
And he said, you all right? I said, I'm a bit overwhelmed.
And he said, that's natural. I was like that, too, my first time.
And he says, don't worry, I got you. And I said, OK.
And Andre Ward had also given me some really great advice as well. And one of them was if you are ever in trouble or you start
to stutter or you don't know exactly what you want to say, just turn to Roy and say, Hey, Roy,
what do you think about that? And I did that throughout the broadcast too. Yeah, but I was
I was a nervous wreck. Did you enjoy it now Now that it's come and gone, did you have fun? I had a blast.
I really, really did.
I had so much fun.
And I couldn't believe how well I was after the nerves kind of settled down.
I just was really enjoying the moment.
And so, okay, so you say you have fun and you're in the moment and you're watching it all unfold.
Have you gone back and, you know, are you the type of person who critiques yourself?
Like, I have a hard time watching my show, listening to myself, and you're no stranger to being on camera.
And I'm assuming watching yourself in some capacity.
Do you have the stomach to do that?
Or is it just kind of one of those things, I did it and now I'm moving on?
I did it and I'm moving on.
Okay.
I do it,
you know,
roles that I take on as well.
People go,
Oh,
did you watch yourself?
Nope.
You know,
I might go to a premiere and sit and watch it,
but I won't watch it again.
Or I won't watch the rest of the series,
if you will.
And that's kind of why I like theater.
You know, You do it,
you go home, you get to do it again, but you don't have the opportunity to sit back and
watch yourself. It's just too much for me. Would you like to do more of this?
I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Half of me says, hell yeah. And the other half of me is like, slow down, girl. You know, so, you know, I think that if I had the opportunity, if I was so blessed to have another opportunity, I think I would take more time to really do it in a different way. I think I would be more myself. Okay. Well, I, there was moments
in the broadcast that I felt like I was more myself when, when the, you know, certain things
just came out at me. Like when I saw Tyson's bare ass, I was like, oh, come on. You know,
and it just came out, you know, stuff like that. I think that I would, I would be a contribution
on that level, you know? But, you know, it was fun and it was a dream come true.
Well, actually, it wasn't a dream come true. I never imagined I would be doing something like
this. So it was an opportunity that I just, it was unbelievable and I had a great time.
So if you could offer yourself a self-critique, if you will, it be just to be yourself um and to let your guard
down more does anything else come to mind i think it would be just to be myself and let my guard
down more and and not worry about expectations um and um i was pretty well prepared i knew i knew um
all the fighters outside of the youtube fighters i I knew their, their resume and I've seen their fights, you know, you know,
especially with Bruce Shushu Carrington and Mario Barrios and Ramos.
And of course Taylor Serrano.
So I was pretty prepared and I took it seriously.
But I think that I would just tell myself to just calm the hell down.
And also to, yeah, just be myself and have much more fun.
More fun than I had.
And so let us talk about Taylor Serrano.
Because, of course, you were kind of in the discussion in the aftermath.
Some people unhappy.
Some people, you know, everyone's weighing in.
And that comes with being a broadcaster, right? You're right there. You're the soundtrack to the
fight. Do you think the criticism of the broadcast for that particular fight is fair, is warranted?
What is your reaction to it?
Well, I didn't really look too much into the criticism of the fight.
I just basically tried to ignore it.
But me critiquing myself, I would say this, that when you're in that position, you have to be very careful what you say.
You know, your emotions are really, really high and you're in it and you have to be very careful what you say.
And there was one moment that I do regret in the Taylor-Serrano fight and because it came out wrong.
And if anybody jumped on me for that, that's fair.
And that was when I said, Katie Taylor will have an asterisk next to
her name because of these fights. And what I wanted to say was, it's going to be unfortunate
that people will have, you know, think of Katie Taylor with an asterisk by her name because of
the head butting and the rubbing and like that, and it's not fair. And so that I regret deeply because I have such great respect for Katie Taylor as a fighter.
And I think that I was just caught up in the emotion in the moment.
And that's what I mean about, you know, it's an on-the-job learning experience.
You know, I was talking to Timothy Bradley after the fight.
He said, oh, my God, I thought you did good. I said, really? And I told him how I regretted that. He goes,
it's all right. He said, my gosh, my first time I was horrible. And I was, I fell out laughing.
And he goes, everyone needs to offer you a little bit of grace there because you were on a worldwide
stage. You weren't just on a national televised fight. You're on the worldwide stage.
And he goes, and that's what happens sometimes. You get caught up in the moment.
So I would correct myself on that. I would think twice about saying stuff and how to say it to make
sure that I'm clear and it cannot be misconstrued because I'm sure it was. That just haunts me.
That statement just haunts me.
Well, it wouldn't be so hard on yourself. And the reason I asked was because I know you tweeted afterwards about it and not suggesting that it was something that overtook the fight,
but everyone has a take. And this particular fight is a very polarizing one because of the
scorecards and because of the aftermath. And I think everyone just wants to see a third one. The first 20 rounds that they've shared in the ring
have been incredible. Each one, you know, each round better than the last one. I'm assuming,
and correct me if I'm wrong, in the moment, and you said you didn't rewatch it, that you thought
Amanda won. Do you still feel that way? Because some boxers have come out and said, no, actually, I think Katie deserved the nod
as she got via the judges.
How do you feel about the scorecards now, a week and a half later?
I think with the point deducted, I would say it was closer to a draw.
I think it was closer to a draw.
And if a decision had to be be made I would have I would have
still given it to Amanda but I would not say that um it was a straight-up robbery I wouldn't say
that she wanted a landslide um you know Katie Taylor is a warrior but so is Amanda Serrano so
you know it it it's it's it's unfortunate.
And that's why I also said on the broadcast, because I didn't look at the online criticism of my statement.
I was listening to the boos for Katie Taylor.
And that's why I said, you know, she doesn't deserve that.
You know, people should give her respect.
She doesn't deserve the boos because it's not she's not making the decision.
It was the judges that made the decision, not Katie Taylor.
You know, and so if you're going to boo anything, boo the judges, don't boo the fighter.
You know, I mean, they're getting they're standing there getting punched in the face for a living.
You know, the worst thing we could do is do that is boo them in my opinion you know but i think i would have to play it back that would
maybe like next year i would look at it again you know after the fact but that's what i that's what
i thought what did you think i i thought it was supremely close in the moment uh i thought it was either going to be as you said a draw or
a uh an amanda win um in the moment i have since re-watched it and i could see how the judges um
got to the conclusion of a katie taylor uh decision victory obviously a decision but um
it's super close and i just i just honestly i want to see it again and there's a part of me
that feels like do we need to see it in three minute round form? Because there's been a couple of times where end of the first round,
you know, it looked like, it looked like Katie was on skates fifth round in the first fight.
It looked like she was rocked 10th round rock. And each one of those fights have been two minute
rounds. But then there's a part of me that feels like they're just so magical together.
I want to keep it as is. Also, I don't
even know if the three minutes helps Amanda and she's the one pushing for it because she's moving
up from essentially 126, which is her prime weight class to fight at 140, which doesn't get talked
about enough. She deserves so much credit for that. So there's a part of me that just feels
like if they do it one more time and I hope they do, we just keep it at, you know, two minute
rounds. How do you feel about that
would you like to see them if they have a trilogy go to the three minute rounds which is what Amanda
has been pushing for are you one of those who just kind of likes the magic yeah I was we were talking
about it I think with Roy and Andre before it's like there's just so much activity and so much
action in the two minutes why mess with it I don't know. Honestly, I really don't know. I know in UFC, right, it's the same for the women and the men.
Yeah, five-minute rounds for everyone.
Yeah, and I kind of respect that a lot.
And, you know, I respect UFC fighting.
You know, it's not on the level of my love for boxing.
My love for boxing is a little bit fanatical.
You know, but I really don't know because i am
not a fighter so i really can't say what would be more beneficial three minutes or two minute rounds
uh i do think it would add another interesting layer to the fight but ultimately i just want
to see the third fight we can agree on that right like before it's all said and done for the two of them, trilogy, yes? 100%. Ward Gotti.
Let's go.
Yeah.
I would love to see another one.
I really would.
I really, really would.
And the great byproduct of all this is that so many people,
millions upon millions of people got to watch them fight.
And everyone's afterwards talking about Taylor and Serrano,
maybe not household names to the casual sports fan prior to November 15th,
but now everyone knows them and talking about the cut and talking about the heart and the
determination. But of course, Jake and Mike were the main attraction. And in the aftermath,
everyone's still talking about it. In fact, at the beginning of the show, I read a statement
from MVP refuting the allegations that it was rigged, which I think are nonsense. Could I ask
now that it's over what what is your take
on what we saw there on that friday night between jake and mike with all due respect to
mike tyson because i have mad love for the man that was hard to watch that was really hard to
watch because the person that we saw in the weigh-in, the way he charged and smacked the hell out of Jake Paul and the clips of his training, he was not even him walking into the ring.
He just didn't seem like the same guy.
I don't know if the magnitude of the event took hold of him.
I don't know if he overtrained.
I don't know.
But he just did not look the same.
And I thought that, you know, that said, I thought his first round was really good.
It wasn't great, but it was really good. And I was just glad no one got knocked out,
specifically Mike Tyson. And I also was wondering why didn't Jake Paul tee off on him? If he had him, why didn't he tee off on him? It just didn't make any sense to me. So, I mean, you know, with the utmost respect to both of those fighters, it wasn't a great fight, sad to say. It just wasn't a great fight. And I thought it was going to be much more than it was.
But I have to say, at my age, I'm 60 years old,
what Mike Tyson did at 58 was amazing.
Yeah.
Amazing.
And I have to give him so much credit.
And Mike Tyson really doesn't care about what I think.
He doesn't care about what you think or anybody else for that matter. He wants to do what he wants to do and
he did it and he's satisfied with it. So at the end of the day, that's the only thing that counts
for him. In regards to Jake Paul, I don't know, because I don't know the man personally so but yeah yeah i just honestly you know and i and i i hate to be negative but it
just wasn't a great fight yeah and sometimes that happens uh fights don't deliver this isn't pro
wrestling you can't script them i don't feel like the fight was scripted my personal take is and i
would love your take there's different camps here right i think that jake was up and essentially
said you know what i'm up so much i'm taking on his soul. I don't want to knock him out. I like him and took his foot off the gas and carried him for the last couple of rounds. And I equated that to, you know, people said Canelo did the same with Munguia back in May. We see this in the NBA. Team is up 30. They put the bench warmers in and they just kind of take their
foot off the throat and that's what I think happened and I think people didn't like that
because the action kind of stopped and it didn't feel like like Jake was going for the jugular
which camp are you in because on on the Saturday after Dana White said nah that didn't happen Mike
was just too dangerous for him and he's using that as an excuse so there's all different kind
of takes out there what what is your theory as to what we saw the back end of the fight?
I don't know, because I saw Mike take his punches. He was able to take them. He was able to absorb
them. I mean, we've seen him knock out other fighters, you know, younger fighters than Mike
Tyson, you know, and he was able to take those punches. So who knows, you know,
the one thing that I would talk about, you know, I asked production and you were there.
I asked them, everyone thinks this is fake. Is it fake? Do we talk about that? Is this
a fake fight? I need to know. Because if if it was i wouldn't have participated in it
and they were like it's absolutely 100 real you know so that's all i can go on you know
i know people are out there saying now it was completely scripted so who knows
you had the best seat in the house you were right there you've seen a
gazillion fights what what is your take on that on that debate i thought it was real yeah i thought
it was real and and it was what aroy was saying is that mike's legs were not there i was just like
what the hell hopping like honestly like what the happened? Because he looked so great in training.
Just unbelievable.
He also looked, with all due respect to him, quite different and better when he fought Roy in that exhibition bout just four years ago, right?
That was a completely different guy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Completely different guy.
Yeah. So, I mean, it begs the question because I've heard some people too that said what
Dan White was alluding to that, you know, Mike took it easy on him.
It was, you know, so who knows?
Who knows?
This is crazy.
This might be talked about forever.
I swear to goodness.
Yeah.
And that's, I guess, part of the appeal.
He said to me afterwards in the ring i'd like to keep going but it seemed
in his statement the next day that he said i'm good i'm assuming based on what you said you don't
have interest in seeing him fight again no no no i i i love him and and if that's what he wants to
do i'll support him but you know he's got 20 million plus dollars.
You know, live your life, enjoy your life.
But, like I said, if that, I know Mike Tyson, if that's him enjoying and living his life, so be it.
Let him do it.
You know what I'm saying?
Let him do it.
What about the flip side of the coin, Jake Paul? Because now after this fight, you have Artur he doing? This is a real, real deadly, if you will, sport.
And you shouldn't take it lightly.
And he hasn't.
In regards to his training, he has taken it seriously.
But his opponents are not on the level of better BF.
You know, he could possibly get seriously hurt.
You know, Ryan Garcia, I mean, he's half Jake's size.
I don't know how that would go either.
But if he were to stand toe to toe to the current light heavyweight or heavyweight, I don't think he would fare well.
You know, and I don't know, like that would be difficult to watch as well. You know, so I don't think he would fare well, you know, and, and I don't know, like that would be difficult
to watch as well, you know? So I don't know. I don't know. That fight was at heavyweight. I think
he's best in the sort of cruiserweight territory. There has been some talk of, of Canelo Alvarez
fighting him at some point in 2025. Now that's a big jump as far as size is concerned, 168, 200.
But obviously Canelo is one of the best fighters in the world. Pound for pound,
he's an absolute legend. A, can I ask if you're interested in that? And B,
do you think that Canelo's incredible skill makes up for the size discrepancy?
I would say that Canelo's skills would make up for the discrepancies, but the size would be a factor.
It's just hard for me to comment on this because I have to tell you, I don't know if you know this, but I go to fights that are not televised.
I watch fights that nobody's talking about on Twitter where people go,
oh my God, I didn't even know this fight was on.
You know, because I love this sport and I respect this sport
and I see guys who come up the normal way
and take their time and take their knocks
and take their punches, you know,
and put in the hard, hard rounds.
And it's hard for me to see them not get the money opportunity, you know, even though that
they may be better than a Jake Paul. And then people say, well, then they should promote their
own fights. Well, maybe they're not as good as a businessman as Jake Paul. Jake Paul's an amazing business person.
He really, really is.
You know, as a promoter, do I want him to continue that?
100%.
Oh, sorry.
Did something, I think some audio got crossed there.
I'm sorry?
Do you still hear me?
I'm sorry.
I can't hear you.
Do you hear me now? Yes, I hear you. sorry. I can't hear you. Do you hear me now?
Yes, I hear you.
Okay.
I think something happened there, but you were going on about how great of a businessman
he is.
Yeah.
He's an amazing businessman.
He really, really is.
That's undeniable.
What he did for Amanda Serrano is incredible, and I give the man that respect.
I think that he should really be a major play in
this game because he knows how to put on a show and that's what it is right it's a it's a form
of entertainment and it's also prize fighting meaning you fight for money at the end of the
day that's why boxers get those big paid days and I just wish that you know it's just hard for me to
see like really great fighters like David Benavidez, which is coming up February 1st.
Yeah. Not have the big, big paydays.
You know what I'm saying? That he deserves and and so on and so forth.
And how long it took Terrence Crawford to get his big payday.
Thank God he's getting it now because it was well-deserved. It was long overdue.
So that part of me kind of goes, oh, you know.
But the other part of me says he's good for the sport because he knows how to promote a fight.
He really does.
And he puts eyes on a fight that would never be there, that wouldn't be there before.
So he's a very complicated, controversial figure.
I saw you bigging up Morel and Benavidez who are fighting on February 1st. That is a tremendous
fight. And there's a litany of great fights coming up. There's rumors that are coming out
today about the February 22nd card in Riyadh, which is absolutely positively stacked. Could I
ask, because I did also see you posted an emoji of the eyes like this
when word got out that Turkey Al Sheikh was buying Ring magazine.
How do you feel about their influence in boxing these days
and how much they are doing in the sport?
I'd rather not comment on that.
I don't like to mix politics and boxing, so I'd rather not comment on that okay i don't like politics in boxing so i'd rather not
comment on no and this is not political at all i just mean there are some people well the question
wasn't i'm saying i hear from some people saying i don't these are the fans i don't agree i don't
like having cards with eight great fights because now it's super stacked, but then there's four or five weeks of
nothing. You know what I mean? Like I think traditional boxing fans, like one massive main
event and some lesser fights, or maybe a main and co-main and some lesser fights. I come from the
UFC world where it's like super stacked from top to bottom. I say, give people these super stacked
cards. The one that's being discussed for February 22nd is not your traditional boxing card.
And the ones that they put on
aren't traditional boxing cards
because they're so stacked.
And so I was just wondering where you fell.
I wasn't talking about the politics
or the history there.
Do you like the super stacked cards
or do you like it more one massive main event,
solid co-main,
and then the rest are up and comers?
I like whatever.
I really do.
I mean, there's something to be said
about a super stacked card.
You know, give us the entertainment.
Like I said, I mean,
it doesn't matter to me, really.
Okay.
What is the most anticipated fight
for you in 2025?
David Benavidez fight.
Why is that?
Because I want his due. I want him to get his want his due I want him to get his due I really want him to get his due you know he has improved he has that undeniable power they they call him the
master he's been putting in the work he's put in the time he's been in this game long enough
he needs those big paydays you know what I mean and mean? And so I'm just really hoping he comes through on February 1st.
So that to me is the fight I'm looking forward to the most right now.
Would you say that we're never going to see Benavidez Canelo,
or are you still holding out hope that that's going to happen?
I don't think it's ever going to happen.
I really don't.
I just, in no disrespect
to Caleb Plant
because I was happy
that Caleb Plant
got that big payday
I really was
for him
you know
but
you know
if you're gonna give
Caleb Plant a shot
why don't you give
Benavidez a shot
so when he didn't
I was like
maybe this is never
gonna happen
you see
just from this
just from that
like one minute answer
how do people not walk
away being like, holy crap, Rosie's not just a fan, like an Uber fan, a hardcore fan.
You love this stuff.
And I did know that you go to the cards, you go to the theater at MSG, you go to the Ludabella
shows, Broadway boxing, all that stuff.
You've been watching boxing for, I don't know, maybe 20, 30 years, probably even more.
More. More.
More.
Your interview, by the way, with Mike for Interview Magazine was the best piece of content
leading up to that fight.
I don't even want to like, I don't even want to like summarize it because I don't think
it does it justice.
Obviously, he's very comfortable with you and you have a relationship, but it goes into
so many different places.
My only complaint is i
wish it was on camera like i wish i could was that done all over the phone or in person that was done
over zoom zoom it was so freaking good yeah but nobody's ever gonna see it because they edit it
you know um uh what happened with that is that they um gave me a list of questions and i probably
asked only two and i was driving myself crazy.
Like I was calling people like Chris Rock. What am I going to say? What am I going to say?
You know, and everything. And so I just, I just looked at the questions and as soon as
Mike came on, he goes, Hey buddy. And it was just so familiar. Like, okay, he's not taking this so seriously.
And let me just calm down.
And we just started going.
We just started going and chopping it up.
And I loved it.
And the reason why I allowed it to go the way it did is that the most exciting thing to me about boxing is outside of seeing a championship fight is the backstories. It's the story of the
fighters. It just means so much to me because you vote for them even more so. And it's so
interesting, you know, remember with HBO sports, they HBO boxing, they did it the best man.
Yes. 24 seven.
24 seven. They're the ones that started it. And then Showtime picked the best, man. Yes, 24-7. 24-7.
They're the ones that started it.
And then Showtime picked it up all access.
And the stuff that Mark Kriegel does for ESPN.
I love all that stuff.
I love it.
Because you want to get to know the people that you admire a little bit more.
And it means so much more when they get up off the canvas because you understand all they went through outside of the ring
just to get inside the ring.
And I just wanted to talk about really Mike 2.0 because I've seen him.
I've known him since the early 80s. And I've seen him rise and fall and then rise up again.
And it's just incredible to me.
And someone with a difficult background that I've had myself, I know how hard it is to get out of your own damn way.
It really is hard.
And I also know how sensitive Mike is and people don't really
talk about that and how spiritual he is and and um I didn't know about the toad yeah the toad is
the best part that that blew my mind that that I was like what are you talking about and then when
he tell told me that you know Kiki has done it, you know, I was like, what?
And that he's done it like 90 times. I was like, you're insane. You know, because I had a difficult
childhood because I came from abject poverty. I don't want anything to jeopardize my life.
I don't want anything to jeopardize what I've worked so hard for. Like someone invited me to go bungee jumping.
I was like, why?
And they were like, it's perfectly safe.
No, no, no.
Even if there's one in a million chance, I'm not taking it.
You know, I'm enjoying where I am right now.
I'm good.
You know?
And someone asked me, my friend Ramon Rodriguez asked me to like jump out of a plane, you know, that skydive.
Hell no.
Hell no. And to take a out of a plane, you know, that skydive. Hell no. Hell no.
And to take a toad?
Oh, it's.
It's a pretty disgusting.
You're going to like squeeze the pus out of the back of a toad.
And I kept, what I wanted to ask him and I didn't was what happened to the damn toad?
That poor toad.
Does it die after you squeeze all the shit out of this box?
Excuse me.
Sorry, my mic.
No, it's all good.
You know, you know, it's back back like what happens to the toad you know it is just it's insane that was just crazy to me
well i think that just uh piqued everyone's interest if they haven't read it doesn't matter
if the fight is over just type in interview magazine rosie perez mike tyson it's a phenomenal
read it really is about so many different things the toad stuff in Tyson. It's a phenomenal read. It really is about so many
different things, the Toad stuff in particular, but there's a lot there. Like I said, it was a
great honor to work with you that one night, to call you a colleague for one night only.
Perhaps we could do it again down the line. I thought you did a tremendous job, especially
on such a, very few people debut on a stage like that. So kudos to you. Well done. And I love your love of combat
sports and boxing in particular. So much respect. And thank you so much for the time here today. It
was great to have you on. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I really appreciate your
words too. And yeah, let's do it again. Let's do it again. Amen. Let's do it again. The great Rosie
Perez, kind enough to join us on this Tuesday afternoon.
Definitely go check that out.
Interview Magazine, they do great stuff.
And this chat was amazing.
It flowed. I wish we could have watched it, but it sort of kind of works in that format as well.
All right.
Let us move along now and say hello to our next guest.
So we'll go from the New York area, I presume, all the way to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this Friday, Black Friday.
We are getting the PFL Championship.
There are a litany of fights on this card.
At the very top, though, is the main event featuring the returning 145-pound champion,
not going back-to-back, but he won it a couple years ago,
and now he's looking to pick up his second million dollar check the pride of manchester the one and only brendan lock name going up against
timur kisriev and he is kind enough to join us from riyad right here and now it's a little late
over there so i appreciate the time very much brendan good to talk to you thank you for joining
us thank you for having me ariel always a pleasure uh we found out some breaking news just a couple
hours ago pertaining to this card, Brendan.
Elbows will be allowed
in the championship for the first time.
Did you know this as you were
preparing for the fight?
Yes, I did know this. I've been preparing
for the
last two months, actually, with elbows now, which has been
quite weird because for the last four years
I've not been able
to use one of my main
weapons growing up so elbows was a big weapon of mine before i got to the pfl and uh and now they've
just been introduced again just in the nick of time so i i'd imagine given the smile on your
face you're delighted by this news more violence ariel more violence let's go are you in the camp
of people who would like to just see pFL use elbows all the time for regular season, playoffs, and now the finals?
Are you one of those?
Well, here's the thing, right?
We talk about cuts, okay?
I get it.
They are back-to-back fights.
But, I mean, look at the knee that I delivered to Justin Gonzalez.
I mean, look at that cut.
It can happen from a head kick.
It can happen from knees.
It can happen from anything.
So, we might as well have to full reset all the way through okay so now here we are um looking to go and pick up a
second million dollar check uh difference this year as opposed to last year as you were trying
to go back to back uh what has been the difference for your success this year and and maybe it's as
simple as it's just hard to go back to back i don't know but just curious from your perspective
yeah the back-to-back thing is very difficult because if you think about it right you win it simple as it's just hard to go back to back i don't know but just curious from your perspective
yeah the back-to-back thing is very difficult because if you think about it right you win it in december and then you are essentially back in camp in january training for the next season and
i tell people this all the time to be a two-time pfl champion you have to win eight fights it's
not just like winning a belt and defending it so this is a really really difficult thing to win and to do it twice is pretty much unheard of and it'll put me in a
really elite category of people your thoughts on tamor maybe not um a household name but undefeated
supremely tough and another tough russian fighter what do you think of him great fighter comes from
a great gym from khabib's gym um obviously undefeated uh poses problems but
i believe that you know if you look at my last 10 opponents you look at his last 10 opponents i
believe my caliber is better than i thought so we'll see on friday is this um correct me if i'm
wrong have you been to have you been to saudi arabia you weren't on Arabia? Were you on that PFL card, the super card in February?
I don't think so, right?
No.
Yeah, so this is your first time in Saudi Arabia?
First time in Saudi.
What's your take on just everything that's going on there?
What kind of buzz is there?
Not done anything yet, to be honest.
I've just been in the room.
I've got a place in Dubai, so what I did, I flew from Thailand to get on the time zone,
stayed in my place in Dubai, and then came here Sunday.
And ever since then, I've pretty much been in the hotel, really.
Were you training in Thailand with Pyotr Yan?
I was.
I was in camp with Pyotr Yan.
And what a performance, Ariel.
Yeah.
So you guys were—OK, so he just fought, obviously, a few days ago.
What was it like training with him and could you expand?
What did you think of the performance?
So me and Peter have been training together now close to a decade really
from Tiger Muay Thai days.
And every time we both can come together,
it's always great energy and great vibes.
He's one of my favorite training partners in the world.
He's always full of energy
like myself and when you turn up to Tiger Boy Tai you'll see me and Peter running around
and uh you know it gave me confidence watching his performance uh because I watched him train
for that fight and you know we moved around a little and um he looked great he looked great
and I was just happy to see the old Peter back uh correct me if i'm wrong you have said uh this will be your last time competing in a pfl tournament is that accurate i mean i say
that every year ariel just just give me some normal fights give me one fight a year i don't
even know what it's like to have one or two fights a year anymore so that's an interesting um that's
an interesting stance because you know we're living in a day and age as as you probably know
there are a lot of bellator fighters who are openly complaining that they're not getting fights
and now here you are with an embarrassment of fights at your disposal uh i i i feel like saying
like be careful what you wish for right well i will say one thing right when um when i joined
the pfl my main reason for joining the pfl back in 2019 was the level of activity and now every
fighter says i want to be active i want to be active okay try four fights in seven months for
the last five years try that try that guys like they throw fights at you consecutive and it takes
a special human to win this thing and to do it twice is what motivates me every day what if
anything do you think about these tweets,
these complaints from the Bellator fighters about not getting fights?
I mean, I can only give you my experience.
My experience has been non-stop activity.
Like, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight.
So from my experience with the PFL,
I mean, I came here at 19-2.
I'm now 30-5 aerial.
Wow.
So I've had five games.
Do you think it's time, though, perhaps in 2025,
that they just merge the two brands?
I'd like to see that.
I'd like to see that.
But can I just add that I fought three Bellator fighters so far this year,
and I am three and all this year.
I'm about to fight my fourth Bellator fighter,
about to go four and all against Bellator. fair enough i i do like that storyline every car that you've
competed on timor has been there any interactions with him no i mean it's uh obviously there's a
massive language barrier for a start but they always seem like nice respectful fellas and
listen there we're all just chasing one goal we're all just chasing one goal. We're all chasing that belt.
You know, we're all chasing the big bag.
And, you know, it's never personal with these guys.
There is a lot of, I would say,
Manchester flavour on this card.
Yourself, Lewis McGrillin,
and of course, Dakota Ditcheva.
I may be forgetting about one or two, but those seem to be the top three.
Could I ask your thoughts on what Dakota has done in particular during this season? Because I think a lot of
people thought, all right, you know, she's the poster woman, if you will, for what PFL is trying
to do. And she continues to surprise people. This by far her toughest test against Tyler Santos.
But I think she's starting to open up a lot of eyes
and make a lot of non-believers into believers I am a huge fan of Dakota Ditchie I've known her
a team a family for yeah over a decade again um she comes from a fighting family I always knew
she was going to be a superstar she's got a grappling in check now and you know she walks
to walk and she talks and talks she finishes people and the manchester are carrying the pfl at the minute he's lewis and dakota knockout after
knockout you know we talk well and yeah manchester on the map tell them ariel i love it no i love
everything about it um and uh a fellow i always screw this up mancunian is it mancunian uh
mancunian yes i know sometimes i say mancurian but that's that's. Mancunian? Is it Mancunian? Mancunian, yes. Sometimes I say
Mancurian, but that's inaccurate.
Mancunian.
A fellow Mancunian we just found out
is returning to action in January,
but I'm wondering where your allegiances lie.
It's Tommy Fury of Manchester
against your boy Darren Till of Liverpool.
So how do you
decide where to
root in that one
I'm so glad you brought this up because I actually won credit for fixing yours and
Darren's relationship I believe I patched it all up on the right Ariel wow wow wow tell us tell us
tell us can you uh jog my memory when I came in yes and I was like listen Ariel you know how Darren
gets from time to time can we just let this one slide did I know Ariel you did you did you did and look at us now now now he's a constant on the show once again
going for runs in the middle of the interview he just delivered one of the greatest ariel
hawaii interviews of all time yes or no it was magic yes it was magic it was it was great it's
great to have him back it's great to see him competing uh i know tommy as well and how great
is this for darren like watching john fury and
darren tiller is one of the greatest things i've seen on tv and you know what darren's no push over
you know john and tommy and tyson they're intimidating guys but darren ain't intimidating
but i know what it's making for great tv it's a it's a wild scene and he did say that you know i
was all by myself they come you know eight ten deep did say that, you know, I was all by myself. They come, you know, 8, 10 deep.
And I suggested, you know, you need to bring some boys for fight week.
Are you willing to offer up your services?
Because it is in Manchester.
I know Dubai is mostly home these days for you.
But that's right.
You know, that's your stomping ground there.
So would you show up to support the liver puddly in Darren Till?
Listen, Darren is my boy through through my brother
I covered I cornered him in his last fight against Rikas um and you know I don't think there's going
to be another fight now that I don't corner Darren because I just love being there for him
and you know I just think this fight here in particular it's his first fight back after a
long hiatus and I just think it's going to be incredible. The Manchester Arena, Manc versus Scalzo, Tommy.
It's just got the storyline on it, Ariel.
Oh, it's fantastic.
I think it's a great matchup and the buzz is building
and it sounds like they sold a bunch of tickets.
As you know, the MMA fighters haven't done great against the boxers.
What would you like to see from Darren?
What's the key to success here?
Darren, it's just great to see him back in the gym,
back in good spirits, you know,
around Liam Smith and Callum Smith and Dennis McCann
and all the best boxers around that area.
And it's just great to see him getting up in the morning,
going for runs.
And like you say, FaceTiming us on runs.
Like, I've not seen that for a while.
It's just nice to see him back in the gym,
back training, back healthy, back in a good mindset.
And, I mean, what a fight, Tommy Fury.
Like, it just caught me off guard, really.
I didn't really expect it.
But then when he told me, I was like, wow,
that is actually the perfect matchup to come back to.
You impressed with Tommy as a boxer?
I am.
I'm not going to lie.
Tommy can box.
I know people have sparred him.
One of my coaches has sparred him.
I know people have held pads for him.
He's from the same area as me.
And make no mistake about it, Tommy can box.
Yeah, people, I think, based on his opponents,
maybe don't want to give him that type of credit.
But it seems like he's kind of just going down the influencer route for now.
Do you like that for him?
Do you think that's smart?
Or would you like him to go down the more traditional route well here's the thing he comes from a fighting
family the Fiori's are fighting family like he grew up fighting like never forget that he's got
Fiori blood in him and you know even Huey Fiori uh obviously Tyson and then all the brothers can
box so um you know he's no slouch and i've seen him in the past like
i say i know his sparring partners and that and it's just it would be nice to see tommy fiora
like go down the british english commonwealth route um but why would you turn down this sort
of money like there's no money in that route you'd obviously take the big bags which he's doing
um back to your situation.
You mentioned, you know, you always say that you're not going to be too keen on fighting in the tournament.
It takes a toll on your body.
I'm assuming this isn't your last fight on the PFL contract.
So if you're not a part of the PFL tournament, what do you do?
I mean, some crossover fights would be nice.
I mean, there's some big fights out there, right?
I mean, like I say, Bellator has come over and acquired a massive featherweight division with some great talent in there.
Okay.
Who tickles your fancy?
Who's on the top of the list?
I mean, obviously the champion.
You've got to look at the champion.
You know, Pitbull.
Who wouldn't want to see Brendan versus Pitbull?
Yeah, that would be incredible.
What a fight.
I mean, let's get Friday out of the way.
Let me secure my belt.
Let me secure my belt, and then we can have that conversation.
Well, that's the type of fight I would love.
I think you made, speaking of turning non-believers into believers,
you did just that when you beat Bubba Jenkins.
Because a lot of people said, oh, the wrestling is going to be the Achilles heel,
if you will.
Sort of, I know it's not the exact same,
but to more, we know what he likes to do.
And so would you say this is your toughest test so far
in the PFL tournaments, given how dominant he is?
Or would you disagree with that?
I mean, I fought another one of his teammates
in the Mowid Habalaya.
He's 21 and all,
so I'm no stranger to this style.
I fought wrestlers throughout my whole career.
The PFLers, you know,
I fought Chris Wade and Tyler Diamond
and Mavlid and Bubba.
Most people at a fight tried to take me down,
so I'm kind of used to this style.
Obviously, he's very good.
He's undefeated.
He's not tasted defeat, but if you look at our last 10 opponents back to back you know mine are much
higher caliber um so i'm not saying he isn't that guy but we'll find out on friday yes we will um
and and you know there's there's a ton of fights on this card and and perhaps you know you are the
you are the main event uh do you like when you, like the Chris Wade,
I remember when we did the, you know, the face-off,
there was some heat there.
Here, as you said, he doesn't really speak English,
so there's no heat.
Do you prefer when there's friction, when there's heat,
or would you rather just kind of it be very civil
and respectful professional?
I think Wade was the only beef I've ever had,
like really in MMA terms.
That was real and it was fun.
That was good times.
But it was, you know, last time I fought for this belt,
I fought for Bojenkin to I-class as a friend of mine.
So that was a strange one.
And now this, you know, this guy, like I say, can't speak English,
seems like a nice guy.
Team seem like good people.
So it's just another day at the office.
I'm just curious do
you have any kind of relationship with muhammad mukayev another mancunian muhammad mukayev is my
boy i can't believe you don't know this okay forgive me uh how is he your boy how would you
why would you classify him are you training partners yeah i'm gonna send you the picture
from when muhammad first started training and they like like the picture of me and him together is crazy i'm gonna send it up okay so could i ask
what you make of what happened to him no longer in the ufc now i mean you know he did get the
short straw on that one um but i believe he'll come back stronger from it i'm glad he took a
fight and might i add that's not an easy fight that he's taken most people when
they get told just have one win and come back you know they would pick an easier fight it's a tough
opponent so you know i think he knows what he's doing and i think uh this will be good for him
long term yeah he's fighting in brave now uh i was trying to pull up the uh name of the opponent
it is uh luthando bico at brave cf91 um so he's gonna have to work his way back
up uh would you like to see him work his way back up to the ufc or are you in the camp of to hell
with them go make money elsewhere i just think that this is prize fighting and you've got to
make as much money as you can while you can and And, you know, if he's making that bag at Brave,
make the bag, Mohamed.
You know, he's been in the UFC now for a long time.
And it's about feeding your family.
And you can't forget that sometimes.
I was surprised that PFL didn't sign him.
I know he's primarily 125, but maybe move up to 35 and he can fight in that division.
Yeah, I don't know what's happening with this Brave deal,
whether he's multiple fights,
but I know that he's very in at Brave.
He's had a lot of fights at Brave.
He's probably getting looked after at Brave very well, and he's in with the owners and stuff.
So, I mean, he's got a bit of a home there.
He seemed like a natural fit after the UFC.
So let's see how it all pans out for Mohamed.
But can I just say he's one of the nicest guys there, one of the most humble guys that you could possibly meet in this sport and
i want nothing but the best for him by the way uh not sure if you saw earlier this month uh
randy couture saying that you and mike chandler are are two of the biggest stars of this generation
in mma how about hearing that from the natural wow i'm glad you brought that up i mean i remember
waking up in the morning and someone tagged me in it and i was like randy the natural couture who i used to grow up watching as a kid has just said
that about me online like i had to watch it about 50 times and pinch myself a few times i know he
commentates on the pfl and you know i've met randy a bunch of times but to come out with such a
statement like that it was it was an incredible moment for me.
Yeah, I mean, that is a tremendous praise.
That's in an interview with BloodyElbow.com.
You can see it if you just type in Bloody Elbow and Brendan Loughnane.
Incredible praise and, dare I say, well-deserved and earned as well.
Looking forward to seeing you back in there, looking to get your second million-dollar check.
Always a pleasure, Brendan.
Really, always enjoy talking to you and wish you nothing but the best come Friday. Thank you.
Thank you very much. All right, cheers. There he is.
The great Brendan Loughnane joining
us. He will be headlining
that show on
Friday. You can catch it all
on ESPN+.
And no pay-per-view this time, worth noting.
It's not on pay-per-view.
It is not behind
the paywall. It is just with your ESPN Plus subscription,
which I think is tremendous.
In total, by the way, 16 fights.
That's a sort of artist series, if you will, poster.
There's a lot there.
I think the first fight kicks off 9.30 in the morning
on Black Friday. So while you're having
your, if you're here in the United States,
while you're having your
Thanksgiving
leftover sandwich.
I feel like GC's a big
leftover sandwich guy. Massive.
You love that, right? Everything.
Cold turkey or warmed up turkey?
I usually warm it up. Crack a couple
eggs, have it in the morning though. 9.30am
first fight of the night. You love that.
I don't. Wait,
crack a couple eggs on the turkey?
Make it a breakfast sandwich, man. Oh, wow.
I don't like cold. What, turkey
can't go with eggs?
Come on. Yeah, I don't
like cold turkey. I don't like cold chicken.
I don't like any of that. Alright, so let's heat it up.
Yeah, alright, alright. With egg on top. Not even like a cold cut let's make it a let's make it a breakfast
sandwich man come on okay okay fine fine fine um well there you have it there you have it um all
right uh very very excited to talk to our next guest been a while since we've had him on the
program and he is very much in the news he is going to return to action on monday december 30th
at 9 p.m eastern Eastern here in the United States.
It will be live from Tokyo, Japan, co-promoted by FanMio and Ryzen.
It's a boxing exhibition bout featuring one of the biggest stars in boxing, King Ryan Garcia,
going up against Rukayo Anpo, who went up against the one and only Manny Pacquiao very recently. It's available globally via FanMio pay-per-view, excluding Japan.
And for those wondering, contested at 153 pounds.
Full boxing rules implemented across eight two-minute rounds.
Without further ado, let us say hello once again to the one and only Ryan Garcia.
There he is.
Hey, Ryan.
How are you?
I'm good. It's good to see you.. You appear to be in good spirits, healthy. How are you? I'm good. I'm good. Doing
good. Excited for this event and excited to be on your show. So thank you, my man. I appreciate it.
How did this all come about? How did this opportunity come about? So I was invited by Ryzen to watch the Manny Pacquiao fight.
And, you know, I love Manny Pacquiao. I've always been a big fan of him.
So I went out there to Japan and seen the event. The event was amazing.
So many people went and tuned in. So, you know, they have a huge boxing culture there and then i've seen this dude
uh way bigger than manny pacquiao and way younger just being or trying to beat up on him
uh and just going like haymakers the whole fight and just just being you know obnoxious in the ring
and i was like oh my god dude like they give me a chance i'll knock this dude out and uh and then
i guess the talk started there uh and yeah that kind of
intrigued me to go because uh he was trying to beat up on Manny Pacquiao I love Manny Pacquiao
and that's basically what happened okay so you're doing it for the honor of the legend Manny Pacquiao
exactly I'm tired of these you know super young guys beating up on these six-year-olds
it's really pissing me off okay uh and I I'm going to ask you more about that sentiment, but just curious, 153, is this a sign that
maybe your days of competing at 140, even maybe 147 are over?
Like, you know, 153 is in a real weight class.
It's 154.
But is this a sign of things to come?
No, I'll probably be at the 140, 147 range in my boxing career.
I think we did 153 because he couldn't go too low.
I think something like that.
And I think this was the highest I was willing to go.
Okay.
We got to.
And why eight two-minute rounds?
Why eight?
Because it's an exhibition.
I currently can't fight in an actual boxing rule set. This needs to be an exhibition, so that's what it is.
And obviously that is stemming from what happened in the aftermath of the Devin Haney fight, the suspension and whatnot.
I'm assuming at this point you're just going to ride it out. You're just going to ride out the suspension. You're free and clear come end of April, right?
Yeah.
I mean, there's really no other option at this point.
So for me, you just got to wait it out.
Obviously, I think that it's bullcrap.
You know, I'm not going to cuss right now, but definitely it's bullcrap.
And I just got to accept what the New York State Commission said.
And that's it.
That was a wild time.
That was a wild week, a wild aftermath.
Looking back on all of that, do you wish you would have handled things differently?
Do you wish you could have corrected some things?
It seems like you're a lot less in the limelight these days.
And there's a lot less, quote unquote, like drama surrounding you much different guy than back in april what is your
perspective on how it all went down uh you know you know just gotta look back and think uh
like maybe i could have i don't know i mean as far as like the fight could have probably
taken it a little bit more serious um as as, you know, everything that happened after.
And I was going through a hard time in my life. And I just, you know, I'm thankful that I got through that that moment in my life and I'm much more calm.
And I think that's the way I want to live. Not so much, you know, craziness in my life.'s not good for me so for me this is a much more
balanced part of my life for sure do you is is life better now do you feel like you're in a
better place yeah for sure i think that um i'm every day you know i'm getting uh through it and
i'm feeling you know much more positive and uh and uh living that type of life you know
it's only one way street and that's to destruction you know obviously you've seen some of the stuff
after the fight so um for me like i said this is the life that i always wanted to live and just
more calm just more focused and uh ready to be the best fighter i could possibly be you you did
say in the aftermath that you were going to go get some help you were going to go to rehab did you do all that
oh yeah you know i'm just currently working with my team to uh just you know become more
healthier mentally physically so uh yeah that's uh kind of the steps we took uh a lot of the times
you know i didn't want it hey you know, I mean, when you're, when you're
living at that high, you don't want to, you don't want to, you know, take a step back. So for me,
I find my team on that a lot, but, uh, recently, you know, we made efforts to, to get better.
Love that. Well, what do you think was like the, the turning point for you,
like the final straw in order to actually start listening to your team's advice?
Uh, just kind of, you know, seeing, you know, how it was affecting everybody around me.
I didn't see it at the point at the time because, you know, I was going through whatever I was
going through, but it just, it was one thing after another.
It would damage anybody, honestly, you know, from the P thing and my mom getting cancer and, uh, all the
other things that were going through my life, you know, I was going through divorce at the time as
well. So it was a lot of things at one time. And honestly it did, it did crack me for a little bit,
but, um, like I said, I had a good team and we got back to where we're at now. And, uh, I'm just
happy to be back in the ring and giving a great event in Japan.
I was sorry to hear about your mom. And I know you posted about her having surgery recently.
How is she doing? And obviously wishing our best to her. Is there an update on her health?
Oh, yeah, she's doing much better now. She had her surgery and she went through her
radiation and things are looking good, you know, but obviously in like cancer, it takes some time to see if it'll come back.
But as of right now, she's cancer free and I'm very happy.
Okay. Wishing her the absolute best.
Do you think, so April is rapidly approaching.
It's crazy how quickly time flies.
Will this be the only, you know know exhibition bout that you partake in before
you're free and clear you know uh i don't think so hopefully i could get one more in
i'm addicted to fighting to be honest so uh for me i hopefully to get into the ring uh before
april one more time um and uh do something big hopefully an even bigger exhibition you never know like i'm willing
to go up and wait so whoever wants it would that be something with ryzen and famio or somewhere else
uh like i said i uh i'm open to doing another event with ryzen and famio they're great companies uh i thank them for this opportunity uh and uh
you know we don't know we could be with you know we could be against jake paul we don't know okay
so so when you say let's let's talk about that i did see you say all right i'm gonna get rid of
this guy for wanting to beat up uh manny and then you said i want jake i i thought you and jake were
cool where do things stand now?
I know we're cool.
We're cool for sure.
But, you know, he was trying to beat up on Uncle Mike.
You know, like I said, the same way I feel about Manny Pacquiao, same way I feel about this.
We said we would run it one day.
I mean, I started, you know, he came to my gym a long time ago in Victorville.
Then he came to visit me with the Canal Cam.
This was before he boxed.
So I kind of like gave birth to his boxing career.
So I'm here to end it.
That's it.
What would be, in your opinion,
like the most fair weight for this fight?
If I fought Jake, probably like 185.
You think you'd be comfortable at 85?
100%.
What are you right now?
Me? I'm like 165, 170.
Damn. I mean, that's still like 20 to 15 pounds more.
I know. I would have to eat a lot.
Yeah.
But I'm going to do it.
What did you think of the Jake-Mike fight?
Honestly, it was probably what was expected. expected you know mike's a little up in
age he didn't have his balance correct um and it did seem like jake wasn't really doing his
at his fullest abilities but uh like i said it was all right um it was what was expected
since you put out that tweet has anyone reached out to you from his team to see if you're interested in this oh i i really think they generally think that i'm
probably too small but like i said i think my i think skills pay the bills you see floyd
when he fought logan logan was you know way way bigger than him so um i feel like we do the same
thing you know i mean given your your stardom and his stardom, obviously,
Jake versus Ryan is a gigantic fight.
Huge. It would be huge.
And I see it everywhere.
Everywhere I go, people are asking me to fight Jake Paul,
which I got to give people what they want.
That's what I'm used to doing.
How do you think it goes?
I mean, if Jake fights the way he fought
with mike i i generally believe i would knock him out within four or five rounds okay wow
be honest maybe less yes um and and so i mean at that point you could just wait till
april to make this into a non-exhibition bout right yeah i mean if that's
my first fight back that's what go to boy wants and the team wants that would be amazing okay uh i
i will say though i i really do think that you versus devin the rematch is just massive mammoth
given everything that has happened what is your interest level on that i still have that uh it kind of you know it's a little bit personal now you know he sued me
that's crazy you know he sued me after the fight that's a real legitimate lawsuit that i'm going
through um also uh just what his dad's going around saying and all that yeah this fight i
think the rematch would be huge you know they they think that i cheated they think that they would win um if there's no offspring in my system
which again i don't even know how i got there but if they feel that way let's run it again and i
probably i'm gonna do them worse because i didn't even train for the fight so you didn't train for
the fight well not at the fullest abilities i could have. You know, I kind of was just crashing out.
But now I'm focused, and I'm going to whip him even worse this time, to be honest.
Where does the lawsuit currently stand?
I don't know.
I think that I got served, and that was the last thing i got so i don't know where
it stands but that that was that was the last moment uh of the you know the lawsuit was i got
served at my house that devin haney suing you for this and that and and to the best of your
knowledge what exactly is he suing you for uh battery oh wow battery uh and i don't know i think it was battery and some other stuff but
the only thing i remembered was battery okay um and just curious did you have to pay the fine
and the bet and all that stuff everything i paid all that money to him and uh yeah like i said
just couldn't accept the loss um in a perfect world
for you where and when does this rematch take place i i don't care where it's at to be honest
i'm just here to prove that that was easy work i'm gonna do it again so do you think it happens
in 2025 if he wants it i mean that's him you know he hasn't even attempted to get back in the ring
uh he's not even suspended so i don't know here he is are you surprised he hasn't got back in the
ring yeah i mean i would want to you know get you know get going again and and trying to get my you
know confidence back after that type of loss um i would want to get you know right back in the ring and get it
going again but i guess some fighters are different um if you were to choose at the top like jake paul
fight mega fight aside would he be at the top of of the list as far as like the return fight for you
yeah him teofimo lopez i'm looking for some big fights. I'm not looking to fight just anybody.
I love to fight the best fights, and I've showed it throughout my career.
And that's what I'm going to continue to do and look for.
You versus Lopez is huge.
What about a tank rematch?
I've seen you guys talk online as well.
Oh, yeah, that's cool.
Like I said, I want to fight the best,
and hopefully that me and tank could do
it in the right weight at 140 uh i could i'd go down one not go down but i'll fight him at 140
if he could move up and i think that's probably the the best fight that we could do unlike last
time which was at you know 135 136 actually which i there's no way i could have made right but i
and no rehydration clause right patient clause everything just the way it should be do you have
regrets agreeing to that like do you lament that does it bother you that you agree to all that
i hate losing you know and it's something that i wish i could run back when i feel my healthiest and my strongest
um i think i was a little too eager to make the fight and uh but then again if you look at it it
kind of inspired other boxers to get in the ring and and produce big major fights so to be honest
everything played out uh i guess how it was always meant to be but uh the rematch is something i
really really want.
And hopefully I'll get one day.
One that piqued my interest recently because you tweeted about it,
you versus Boots Ennis.
What did you think of his performance a couple of weeks ago?
He got hit with that left hook about a thousand times. And I think that his defense is, I think he's a little overrated.
I would probably keep it simple. I think he's a little overrated. I would probably keep it simple.
I think he's a little overrated.
And I think that somebody with my talent, I think I could beat him.
He is obviously a matchroom guy.
Would you like to work a fight with a matchroom fighter again?
Do you have any issues with Eddie and the crew over there?
No, I don't got no issues.
I think that, you know, my dad and him, I guess, got into it a little bit after the death.
That was crazy.
But I don't care.
I'll speed up on another one of his fighters.
I don't think he always thinks that his fighters are going to beat me.
And I guess that's how he has to feel.
But, you know, I'm willing to whip one of his fighters again.
Where do things stand between you and Oscar and Golden Boy?
Oh, we're good.
I think they're, you know, we're all working together as a team to, you know, better my career.
So everything right there is going great.
So you're happy with the relationship?
Yeah, I don't see no problems
okay great uh because eric gomez said recently that he thinks you'll come back at 154
and so i was just curious are you interested in 54 or do you think that 47 40 is best for you right
now you know wherever the best fights are to be honest uh i feel like i could fluctuate my weight
pretty easily you know um from 154 to all the way down to 140 to be honest feel like i could fluctuate my weight pretty easily you know um from 154 all the way
down to 140 to be honest i think i could probably do 140 obviously being the hardest but for the
right fight i feel like i could get down to 140 i saw you at the sphere for that ufc card the
nocho ufc card you uh had a photo with alex perera and john jones and a lot of people were
wondering like oh man r Ryan and Jon Jones,
they're going to tear up Las Vegas.
Did you guys hang out afterwards
or was it just the photo op?
No, it was just a photo op.
You know, like Jon is a different man nowadays.
And at that time I was slowing everything down as well.
So we did not get into it,
but we did sing my song together.
So that was cool.
I love that.
What did you think of the show, of whole production i thought it was cool i mean you had uh you had like it was a
little confusing though like i mean it was hard to like focus on the fights to be honest there's so
much going on uh sean o'malley he didn't fight his best at night i was a little disappointed
that i was i was wanting to see like you know a classic sean o'malley knockout i didn't fight his best at night. I was a little disappointed in that. I was wanting to see a classic Sean O'Malley knockout.
I didn't get it.
But other than that, it was a great event.
Okay.
You two have had a back and forth as well.
Is that something you're still interested in or after that no more?
No, I'm interested in it.
He could make a run back.
I think he's a big star regardless.
I think he looked off that night. I don't know what was up with him but he did not have his his usual explosiveness and you know
and agility so i think uh maybe now that you know a couple fights you know he wins that we can run
it again uh there has been also some talk of you fighting in dubai in january is there any
merit to that uh possibly uh we were in talks to fight somebody in dubai uh but i don't know where
right now yeah jabber uh yeah i don't know where that's at anymore so we have to see okay and and
so basically as long as these are exhibitions no commission can tell you not to do it, right?
I think they, uh, we talked to them about it. We, uh, we spoke to them and, uh, they did give the clearance that I could fight an exhibition. So that's.
Okay. And, and, uh, that, that event that you saw Manny fight in, um, against your opponent on December 31st in Japan, was that your first time watching a fight in Japan?
Yeah, that was the first time.
New Year's Eve, I don't know if you know this, is historically like the biggest night of fighting
in Japan. Like there was once a time 50, 60 million people are watching these on broadcast
television. And the promoter of Ryzen, a gentleman named Sakakibara, was the one who put on these
events for Pride Fighting Championship. So this is a really massive deal that you're fighting on this card i'm sure you know some of this but like
this is huge like especially in the mma world um it's it's really like a very prestigious
and massive honor to be involved in one of these shows wow wow no i didn't know the significance
of it so that even makes it even more exciting um yeah the the the
president of rising is actually here right now so oh he's a legend yeah he is a legend i met him in
japan so uh this is gonna be a big event i didn't know how big it was i'm like i walk in i'm like
yo this is like me fighting on showtime like i'm walking into beverly hilton and there's you know it's like when i was fighting
tank i'm like oh damn okay some legit stuff i better lock in yes uh initially were you just
kind of viewing it as an exhibition and now now your feelings have changed yeah i could feel like
more of a pressure of a fight to be honest yeah at first okay like little exhibition okay a couple
cameras maybe you know
maybe some people will know that i'm doing it but now everybody knows i'm fighting and i'm like oh
damn okay i better look sharp yo saitama super arena like that is a historic gigantic venue like
that's in many respects their version of of msg for fighting um this is this is a really i'm not
trying to add pressure but i want you to recognize i'm I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No, I'm just telling you,
this is actually really, really cool and a really big deal.
Yeah. Yeah. Uh, yeah, no. Uh, no, well I have a, I have a plugin real quick.
Go ahead. Plug it away.
You know, we are fighting on FAMIO pay-per-view December 30th.
You could buy it to watch me fight in Japan, one of the biggest nights.
So I'm kind of piggybacking off what you were saying, how huge it is.
I want everybody to get to witness it.
Yes.
And before I let you go, can I just say, I don't know if you remember when you were in my studio here in March, I think, to kick off the Haney promotion.
The man I'm speaking to right now is a completely different person.
Yes, sir.
You look different.
Your face is different.
Your voice is different.
Your demeanor is different.
Some people say they've changed.
And, you know, obviously we're just talking over Zoom.
But I can sense it.
I can feel it.
So whatever you are doing seems to be really working. Appreciate that, Eero. Yes. Thank you. I've been working hard. So I do appreciate that.
The dark clouds are behind you. Yes. Right there. I see them. I see them in the distance.
I see them back there. I appreciate you. Yeah, man. A pleasure as always. Good luck with the press conference later today.
It kicks off in just a few minutes over in LA.
And good luck on New Year's Eve in Japan.
We'll be watching and can't wait to see you fighting on such a big stage out there.
Let's get it.
Thank you.
All right.
Thank you, Ryan.
All the best.
There he is.
Ryan Garcia joining us from Los Angeles.
That press conference going down later today. And again, it is a boxing exhibition featuring Ryan Garcia and Rukaya Anpo,
the man who fought and beat Manny Pacquiao in a similar type of fight recently under the RIZIN umbrella.
Co-promoted by FANMEO and RIZIN, Monday, December 30th at 9 p.m. Eastern here in the United States,
6 p.m. Pacific Pacific Live from Tokyo, available
Globally via FanMio Pay-Per-View
That's everywhere around the world except
Japan, it's on
Broadcast television over there
Because those Rizin events are gigantic and
Once again, 153 pounds
Full boxing rules, 8 two
Minute rounds, there it is
The event going down at 4pm, we'll be
Off the air here
As we get set for the Ariel and Ade show.
And perhaps we will talk.
By the way, I like that poster.
That's a nice looking.
I know it's not a poster like a traditional poster.
It's more for the press event.
But that's a nice looking graphic.
And it goes down.
Yeah, look at that.
It goes down at 4 p.m. Eastern.
So in about 43 minutes from now in L.A.,
guys, we've talked to Ryan a lot.
That was not the Ryan that was in our studio back in March, right?
Not even remotely the same.
Dramatically different.
Yeah.
Like you could see it on his face.
You can see it.
You can hear it.
Yeah.
On his face, the way he talked,
the demeanor that he had, everything was different.
Him versus
Devin Haney, too.
If you get a sober locked-in
Ryan Garcia against Devin Haney, that's going to be
something, man. Also, he said he doesn't care where
it happens. Let's have it happen in New York again.
I want to go to that. The first one was insane.
The first one was insane.
That has to be the fight, although...
Does it? I'll watch any of them.
Do you feel like there's any merit? Yes, absolutely. T.O. Tank. Do you feel like there's any merit yes absolutely to uh
i'm in tank but do you feel like there's any merit to the jake thing to him versus jake yeah
he is too that's just silly he's too small for for jake he doesn't seem to mind
so i'll eat a lot i mean we did see floyd versus logan and that's essentially an exhibition and
something that i don't think anybody was expecting.
I know Logan claims he won that fight.
That's not what I'm after.
And I don't think boxing fans are after that.
Nor do I think Jake Paul is particularly after that at this point.
Yeah, I don't think Jake Paul wants to fight Ryan Garcia.
I think Ryan Garcia is a big enough name that you can sell that, right?
Ryan Garcia and Jake Paul is two huge names in both boxing and outside
they have influence they are they are people that are notable but like as a competitive fight he's
he's not that size he's just not jake's size yeah man i like i i'm not signing up for it but
i'm not putting anything past anyone at this point i'd watch it and a lot of people would watch it
and i think it would even the playing field, right?
I think it would be much like with this Mike Tyson thing.
The reason it's happening is because of Mike's age, right?
Because if it wasn't, if they were equal in age,
then Mike Tyson would rip Jake Paul's head off.
The same applies here.
If they were equal in size,
Ryan Garcia is just significantly better boxer,
is just a more technical and sound boxer.
Because of the size difference it
becomes a little more compelling i still am not like all the way there i'd much rather see ryan
garcia against devin haney or tank or tiafimo but jake paul like he's he's running out of names that
can that can match him on the marquee ryan garcia is a name that could match him on the marquee Ryan Garcia is a name that could match him on the marquee The first fight back has to be
Devin Haley
It has to be
I'm just happy
That was an insane period
The aftermath crazier than the
Well the build up was
The build up was pretty crazy too man
But the aftermath was nuts
Some of the things that he said
It seemed like a young man spiraling out of control and you know
not to make excuses for him i'm not um when you do find out about his mother in the aftermath and
you find out about the divorce and you find out about you know the stuff that he was dealing with
uh it it and and about his mental health that he has talked about in the past um you know it all kind of adds up but he has to
take ownership and i think he has to a degree i mean it was a shit storm of epic proportions like
truly from the the pd stuff to the to the to some of the comments online yeah to i mean the behavior
to i mean everything was just was a lot it like every day, how can this get worse, right?
I think his removal of himself from the limelight and the person that we spoke to today is a sign that he has taken that seriously and taken to heart kind of the feedback around that and what happened there.
He's not, you know, he's not in the news every day because of these things.
Is he even on, I guess he is on Twitter, right?
Because he tweeted about Jake.
Yeah, but he hasn't been tweeting.
Not the storm.
Not even like 5% of what he was tweeting back in April and May.
Instagram too.
It was like a time where he was like posting some.
It just looks like a different guy and sounds like a different guy.
Yeah, it seems like a dude who's gotten clean and is on the right path right now.
Perhaps this is something we could talk to Adi about at 5 o'clock.
Shout out. Yeah.
Alex Adi. Yeah.
Thanks for confirming to Adi what time it actually
starts. Why? Is he
unclear? He's got it now.
Was he asking about Ariel Alex Adi or was he asking
about Ariel on OneEast?
Maybe that's what he was doing, yeah. I thought he was asking about our show.
Now you're talking about, by the way, you're talking about
an internal text conversation.
Like no one other than the five of us knows about.
Internal secret text conversation.
Oh, I forgot it was type secret.
Sorry about that.
Hey, how about our new water bottle here?
I can't quite see what the text says.
It says who me.
You offered that one to me.
Very nice.
You can get it right now over at ariahomani.com.
Yeah, you can shop official merchandise.
Speaking of merch, a fan came up with a great idea,
obviously not enough time this year,
but a limited edition tracksuit for St. Stephen's Day.
So we can all have matching tracksuits,
and the fans can as well.
For 2025 St. Stephen's Day, that's going to have to happen.
By the way, I do believe Someone had reached out to you
About this no? Yeah
Is there anything you can share? We'll see
Okay. Sizes have been given
But someone reached out to make you
A tracksuit
No no no not make me a tracksuit
To gift me a tracksuit I looked up the ones
That Alex Pereira has and
Well they are not cheap
Especially the one he was wearing over in Korea,
the non-Shama one.
The Shama ones,
he only sold autographed ones.
They were obviously sold out.
The white one
that he was wearing in Korea
was like $450.
I can't do that
just for St. Stephen's Day,
but I got something cooking up.
What did you do?
To try and compete
with the great P.T. Carroll.
Wow.
We got some pictures
of his older ones.
I mean,
look at those.
I mean,
oh my God, look at this. I didn't realize we at this i didn't realize we had the white high tops too that looks like a proper saint stephens day right there look at rich
those that's from the is that from the account pics that go hard
yes it is that is from the account internet hall of fame that's just pz rocking the track suit i
sort of feel like
Maybe for the award show
Or our last show of the year
Maybe that's too soon
Matching tracksuits?
Well we
I mean
I think we just all need to rock
Tracksuits on the air
I'm down
I don't have one
And I'm not getting one
Oh alright
Wow
Jeez
Okay
Jeez man
Some fun you are
Even if I got you one for free?
Alright now we can talk
I said hard out 320
No you didn't
When did you say this
3 and a half minutes late
I legit said hard out 320
Hard out
Time out you said this
Who did you say this to
Someone was there
You said 330
The room is the room is the
room is confirming that this never happened like a hard out would mean that like we go off the air
at 320 whether you're done or not wait wait so the goal was 330 by the way no no no when i say
hard out it doesn't mean like close the lights on me at that's hard out that's what that's what a
hard out means that's what a hard out i just i mean i'm efforting to get that mark that's soft
out that means the softest out
I'm going to try and be out by 320
Is what you're actually saying
Also you said this
A hard out back in the ESPN radio days
The commercials literally
We would just go straight to a commercial
The amount of times that hosts just got
Talked over by the commercials
Oh trust me I did it
320
You have to kill the mic
You have no other choice
We're switching to the finance
At 320
Yeah yeah
That's where we're going to start doing the hard out
As we switch to finance They're going to start doing the hard out is we switch to finance.
They're going to start talking about it.
You just have to wait.
By the way, my greatest memory of ESPN Radio,
when they say hard out, it is hard out.
And it was usually the second block, I think, is a hard out.
So it's like 12 minutes.
Going into the bottom of the hour.
Or something.
And listen, far be it for me to throw anyone under the bus, but I did book a guest.
You shouldn't book a guest in one of those hard out blocks because it's only like seven, eight minutes.
Well, I didn't realize that.
I come from this world where we could go as long as we want.
I book Steve-O in a hard out block and they just ended it.
Like he just, he wouldn't stop.
And it just, it was like. The wouldn't stop And it just It was like
The computer is literally
Programmed to fire
At a certain time
There's no choice
It was a nightmare
I was so embarrassed
One time I was working
In Levitar
And they had Bill Walton on
And they just
Asked us to pot him down
We just turned the
The volume down on him
He just kept talking
Throughout the entire
Commercial break
And then when we came back
We just potted him back up
And he was none the wiser
Wow
Oh no way
How long was that break?
It was like a four-minute break, and he just kept talking through the entire thing.
Legend.
Rest in peace, bro.
Rest in peace, Bill Walton.
By the way, Steve-O could probably give him a run for his money.
I know, yeah.
You got to be careful with that.
Got to have the hard outs.
320.
Just five and a half.
Here it is.
Arlen Ade live on the DAZN boxing YouTube channel, also the DAZN app.
We're going to have George Kambosis Jr. on to talk about his decision to sign with Matchroom.
But we have a lot to talk about regarding Ryan Garcia, regarding February 22nd, regarding Sonny Edwards versus Galalia Fai.
A massive domestic dust-up going on this weekend in the UK.
Regarding perhaps a little Misffits supercard over in Qatar. So there's a lot to get to. There's a lot to discuss. I'll be doing it
with the great Adi Oladipo at 5 p.m. Eastern. So more of us to come. For now, though,
for this particular show, we do have to say goodbye. Yeah.
That's right.
Look at that merch.
Tomorrow we're back, and arielhawani.substack.com is where you can hit us with questions.
We'll be answering those.
And I can also let you know, there you have it on the nose,
that a guest that has been requested is finally going to join us.
First time on the program, Brian Battle is going to join us.
I'm really looking forward to that.
He is a great character.
And Iron Mike Chandler is going to join us coming up.
Did you think I was saying Tyson?
Yeah.
Oh, sorry, sorry.
He'll join us to talk about the fight against Charles Oliveira.
Last stop before Thanksgiving again.
No boys in the back.
No crack.
You guys want to come in on a Thursday?
I'm happy to have you.
Yeah, I'll come in on a Thursday, but I won't come in on Thanksgiving.
Oh, all right.
Well played.
How are you feeling, by the way?
We're getting there.
Did the Tylenol cold kick in? I haven't taken it yet.
You don't believe. It's not that I don't
believe, man. I don't want to OD
on the
S of tough of me.
You were like,
I mean, look, it's been in my bag for a minute, but it
expires in a month. And you were like,
I'm going to go buy my own. I was a little offended.
I feel like if I bought a new one, it would expire in like four years.
So how long has it been sitting in the bag?
Oh, wow. Okay. I was a little offended. I feel like if I bought a new one, it would expire in like four years. So how long has it been sitting in the back? Oh, wow.
Wow. Okay.
I see you. Thank you very
much to all our guests today. Tremendous show.
Ryan Garcia, Brendan Locknane,
Rosie Perez, and
Platinum Mike Perry.
Thumbs up to the chat. Thanks to all of you.
Thanks to all of them.
Back on Wednesday, same time, same place.
Peace. thanks to all of them back on Wednesday stay tight boys till the end peace I'm out of here
