This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with IHeart Radio.
It's almost famous podcast, and we are here today to talk about a new show on Hulu with some of Bachelor Nation's favorites.
It's a list of people that will just make your heart smile.
The show is called Got to Get Out.
Fans got to know and love Susan Knowles, Demi Burnett, and Claire Crawley on our beloved Bachelor Nation shows over the years.
From starring on the very first seasons of the Golden Bachelor to being the Bachelorette to making Bachelor in Paradise history, these ladies are no stranger to the reality television stage.
And now they are back on our screens.
Hulu's new reality TV competition show got to get out.
The show premiered on Friday, April 11th.
According to deadline, the series Pits Reality TV Royals against reality TV rookies
who live under one roof and fight for a chance to win $1 million.
One million dollars, guys.
And Demi Claire and Susan are amongst, like Ben said, like TV royalty, reality TV
royalty Spencer Pratt, Val from Dancing with the Stars, Kim Zolziak and Amorosa. They're all competing
together for this million dollar prize. On the show, everyone has a chance to either stay together
in the house and split the money equally at the end or try to escape at any point and then
keep all the prize money for themselves. That is going to leave everybody back at the house
with nothing. However, the longer that they're in the house together, the greater
the prize money becomes. There's a clock and there's a button and you can keep watching the money
go up higher and higher. The show is out now. All episodes of Gotta Get Out are now streaming on Hulu.
So you got to go stream them. It is, as we said, reality television royalty along with some
reality TV rookies. Got to get out premiered April 11th on Hulu. It's streaming now.
and we have one of the stars with us today.
Demi, welcome back to Almost Famous.
Hi.
Thanks for having me.
This show is wild.
I just read through what this show is about.
How in the world did you say yes to it?
I wanted money.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And also, you should never turn down the opportunity to be on television.
I mean, we just had you on.
I don't know how many months ago it's been.
time flies when we're having so much fun here but back then you were kind of talking about
how you did desire to be back on television but you you know you also spoke about um kind of
your journey personally so when they approached you about coming on this show did you have any
hesitations of course like i think that um before like i do anything um that my first initial reaction
is always, no, I don't want to.
Like, I don't know.
Like, that sounds scary or, like, I would just much rather stay in my safe place at home
and, like, with my animals and, like, in my cozy little haven that I've built.
And no matter, like, how great it is, like, my first initial reaction is, I don't want to.
But then, of course, it's like, well, this is what we want.
This is what we love doing.
This is what we need to do also.
And so then it's,
like I can tell, like, my close people about it, so they get excited for me, so then I can start
to feel more excited. But, yeah, I mean, it's always like, I'm scared, but I'm going to do it
anyway. The animals mean so much to you. Where do they go during the process of filming?
I actually have someone who stays here, and she's known my dog since he was a puppy, so I just
have her stay in my apartment. That's going to feel good. Oh, yeah, it feels good knowing they're
in safe hands. Yeah.
Well, Demi, this show sounds wild.
It sounds exciting.
It obviously premiered April 11th, and we're here to talk about it today.
For anybody that is just saving up to watch this, to binge it, to do whatever they do on Hulu while they tune in, can you give them kind of a teaser to what this show is all about?
Yeah, I mean, I think that it's stupidly silly.
Like, it's stupid funny.
It's so funny.
I mean, I can't believe how funny it is.
I didn't know what to expect.
But it's a wonderful show.
It's so good.
Everyone that watches it loves it.
You can expect like some cliff hangers, like intense moments.
But luckily, for the cliff hangar, you get to binge it.
So you don't have to wait a week.
You can just watch the next episode.
It's good.
It's funny.
It's, I love it.
I don't know.
I think it's so good.
Have you, I mean, you've gone through and watched everything at this point, right?
Yes, yes, I have.
Yeah.
There's a lot to this kind of new world of reality television stars coming back on reality television, the veterans, the all stars, as that category I would throw you into.
But then also this show has the rookies, the ones that have never been a part of reality television.
Was that a different dynamic?
Did you kind of, could you sense the skill sets, the skillsets?
comfortability.
Well, yes.
Also, what's the most interesting part to me is that most of the rookies,
their focus in the beginning, like, is that they want to stay the whole show.
So they're like, oh, I don't even want to try to steal the money yet because, you know,
we've only been here two days and there's 10 days.
Like, I want to make it as long as possible because they want to be on a show.
And I'm like, get me out of here right now.
Like the second that thing's at $100,000, I'm like, I want to go.
I want to go.
so yeah that's an interesting dynamic of like trying to get people to take these clues seriously
whenever they're still like they want to be on TV which is I get it I'm sure I would feel that way
too I did feel that way but yeah it's cute yeah they want to be on TV this is their moment and for
you you're like I've had my moments yes yes they're like this is my moment and I'm like
this is not network television yeah
December 29th,
1975, LaGuardia Airport.
The holiday rush, parents hauling luggage,
kids gripping their new Christmas toys.
Then, at 6.33 p.m., everything changed.
There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal.
Apparently, the explosion actually impelled.
metal, glad.
The injured were being loaded into ambulances, just a chaotic, chaotic scene.
In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged, and it was here to stay.
Terrorism.
Law and Order Criminal Justice System is back.
In Season 2, we're turning our focus to a threat that hides in plain sight.
That's harder to predict and even harder to stop.
Listen to the new season of Law and Order Criminal Justice System.

That sounds totally inappropriate.
Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor, and they're the same age.
It's even more likely that they're cheating.
He insists there's nothing between them.
I mean, do you believe him?
Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet.
So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not?

The U.S. Open is here, and on my podcast, Good Game with Sarah Spain, I'm breaking down the players from rising stars to legends chasing history, the predictions, well, we see a first time winner, and the pressure.
Billy Jean King says pressure is a privilege, you know.
Plus, the stories and events off the court, and of course the honey deuses, the signature cocktail of the U.S. Open.
The U.S. Open has gotten to be a very fancy, wonderfully experiential sporting event.
Listen, the whole aim is to be accessible and inclusive for all tennis fans, whether you play tennis or not.
Tennis is full of compelling stories of late.
Have you heard about Icon Venus Williams' recent wild card bids?
Or the young Canadian, Victoria Mboko, making a name for herself.

To hear this and more, listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain, an Iheart women's sports production in partnership with deep blue sports and entertainment on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports.
I don't write songs. God write songs. I take dictation. I didn't even know you've been a pastor
for over 10 years. I think culture is any space that you live in that develops you.
On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell,
Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business,
and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop.
This is like watching Michael Jackson talk about thoroughly before it happened.
Is there a particular moment where you realize just how instrumental music culture was to shaping all of our global ecosystem?
I was eight years old and the Motown 25 special came on and all the great Motown artists, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Diana Raw.
From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it.
Listen to Culture raises us on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
There's so much to this that kind of is intriguing to me.
One is this all-star cast that they put together.
We mentioned the contestants from Bachelor Nation.
We obviously know you best from Bachelor in Paradise and your time on The Bachelor,
along with Susan Knowles and Claire.
But then also you have the Spencer Pratt and the Omaroses
and all these others that are kind of coming on the show.
When you walked into the house,
I'm assuming you didn't know who the other cast members are going to be
until you met them or saw them when you first showed up.
What was your reaction like when you noticed some familiar faces?
When I saw Omarosa, I remember I ran and hid under the pool table out of excitement
and like, oh my gosh, I'm so scared to meet her.
Like, you know, I want her to like me.
But yeah, so that was really exciting.
I didn't ever watch the hills.
I wasn't allowed to watch that growing up.
So, like, I didn't know Spencer Pratt was.
But it was cool to learn about who they were, like, as I'm on the show and, like, kind of, I don't know, hear their stories, get to know them.
It was great.
Like, me and Omarosa became such good friends.
And, like, I never in a million years would, like, I dream of saying that, you know?
Like, she's one of the biggest reality TV icons ever.
And, you know, she calls me all the time now.
And, like, I crocheted her a little cute little teddy bear.
Like, you know, so I really, I'm so glad that I got to see them and see them in their element.
Also, Susan, my mother, like literally, the best.
She was my safety blanket in there, for sure.
She took care of me.
She made sure that I ate because I need that, because, like, especially when I'm, like, around a bunch of so many people and I'm so anxious, like, I'm so scared to do anything.
And, like, I will just not even realize that I didn't eat because I was just scared the whole time.
time. And so like she'll make me a plate or like make a plate big enough for both of us so I could
eat with her. Stuff like that is like so big for me. I don't even know what your question was.
I'm just rambling. No, you answered it perfectly. And it actually leads me to do a question I
never thought about asking, but I'm super curious for you personally. I feel like I remember
and I could this could just be a dream that I had. I don't know. I feel like I remember you saying
during our time on Almost Famous
when we interviewed you about
your life and your victories
and your struggles and just kind of
catching up on everything
that had happened to you since your time
on The Bachelor, that you would mention
that you felt like most comfortable
when you're on a TV show.
That like you felt this different level
of purpose or comfort or whatever you want to describe it
when the cameras were around.
It's so I feel that way still.
when I do stuff for The Bachelor, like when it's my turf,
not when I'm with reality TV star legends who might be, like, annoyed by my behavior,
who don't necessarily encourage all the demiisms.
Whereas when I'm filming for Demi and everyone's pro Demi,
that's when I feel the most comfortable best time of my life.
But I do not feel the most comfortable when I'm competing with, like, other people for airtime
or just personality-wise.
No, that for me is hard.
It's hard for me to exist as myself
because I'm like,
I don't know what's going to get
what reaction from the person
and like I don't want to be yelled out.
I hate being like yelled out or scolded.
Like that just makes me fired up.
So stuff like that.
But yeah, I do love,
I love it when I'm phrased
when I'm in front of the camera,
but not when other people don't like my antics.
And it's even when I was on The Bachelor, they would silently not like them.
You know, I didn't know that they didn't like them.
But on this show, I knew.
Yeah, I mean, and it had to help then to have Susan there, somebody that is such a comforting person.
Who lets me be myself and who isn't judging me?
Because, like, I mean, I get it.
Like, I got really stressed out halfway through and I had to start carrying around my emotional support bunny that I just needed him with me because I had to stop wearing
my loop earplugs because I need to hear people whispering.
I was just very anxious anyway.
Like Susan and Omarosa just supported the hell out of me in that bunny.
Like Omarosa was bringing me carrots for my bunny.
Can you imagine?
Like this villain, this reality TV villain and she's playing with me and my bunny
because she knows that it makes me happy.
And she knows like I'm kind of maybe sitting by myself or something.
Like she's just taking care of me.
So yeah, I could be myself with Omarosa and with Susan.
but you know and the show is totally not about drama at all so you don't see any of this drama
the show is very lighthearted and very positive and I think it's a great thing because it'll
encourage you know if there's another season people will want to go on it because they won't
worry about getting canceled yeah because let me tell you we all did some very cancelable
things in that house at one point or another that's amazing I mean that that is a place to
that environment does bring a level of comfort so you just kind of mention it
But comparing this, well, first off, let me ask,
have you done any other spinoff shows,
like reality television shows post-batchelor world that I'm, like, not thinking of?
No, not ones where I went and, like, stayed and stuff.
No, I did, like, celebrity dating game,
and then I hosted Bachelor stuff.
But no, no, I don't think so.
I hope not.
So you were, like, a rookie in a lot of ways, too, to the kind of this new world.
I did do WWE, but that's completely different.
That was completely different.
Yeah.
No, this is like a different environment.
you're staying there, there's a whole new goal in mind, there's a new group of people.
And so you're in a sense of rookie walking into this, not knowing how you're going to react
or what to expect.
So if for listeners out there and future viewers of got to get out, how was the filming process
different than The Bachelor for you?
So different because, I mean, I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about this.
I mean, I'm sure that they will tell you if I'm not, or like, they'll fix it.
We'll make this right.
But, like, okay, so on The Bachelor,
say you, like, get into a fight with someone
and then you walk away,
there's a producer chasing after you being like,
oh my gosh, that girl was such a bitch.
Like, she was so in the wrong.
You didn't do anything.
Like, you know, she deserves for you to yell at her again, blah, blah.
You have someone validating you,
comforting you,
and also, like, milking you in an interview after it
and being there for you.
On this show, you get into a fight with someone,
no production.
nobody comes up to you nobody does anything we do it completely differently like the interviews
completely different just an hour a day 30 minutes for half us 30 minutes for they'll have get all
our interviews done and that was it and then the rest of the time there's no production there's no
producer even the room they're hiding they're like in the other rooms in the mansion all watching us
they're like hiding behind a curtain or something like they're there they'll come out to explain
the games and stuff to you, but there's no
like, I need a producer to talk.
Like, I mean, you can talk to them absolutely, but not
like the way that, like, you can't talk to them about the game
and stuff. Like, it's not, like, zero
producer involvement, zero, like,
like when I would get into something with someone or I would
feel upset, like, I would go to the bathtub. I would just go
the bathtub because I could be alone in there and I could be
regulating in a warm body of water and I could just
relax. Or even sometimes when it was empty, I would sit in there
because I could just get away from everyone.
But because there's, there is no, you know, I had to fix it myself.
I can't bring down these other castmates with me because I, I, you know, they're,
Susan's too busy having fun.
So I got to, I got to figure this out myself, which normally I could have figured it out
with the producer and felt better because the producer's baby so much on the bachelor.
Let me tell you, oh, I miss it.
They babyed me so much.
Like, I mean, and they still, like, got to get out.
you still feel like luxury like you're still baby to an extent it's just not like you know the
bachelor's just it's the greatest it's something we've talked about kind of as the bachelor takes this
new leap and i don't want to get into it too much but they take this new leap into this whole new season
of different production and different team members you know the concept of less production kind of
that less influence did you feel like it was helpful for the the story arc of the
show to have less kind of producer involvement, or do you think having more kind of micromanagement
production every day was something that's better for the show?
I think that it's not a clear answer.
I think maybe like a little bit of both is true.
I think that it would like our show, if you took all the footage and looked at it, you
would be able to prove like you don't need producer involvement because these people are
going to do it themselves.
They're going to find a way because there was, I mean, this show could have been a
a villainous show.
Like, we all were yelling at each other.
I mean, we're all acting insane at some points.
We're, you know, this is a lot of money.
And we're all not getting along.
But it came out, like, with all of our, like, best, funniest moments,
which help us all feel happy about the, you know, experience and, like,
love each other more and, et cetera.
But I do think that there was times where, I mean,
there was times where Omarosa was orchestrating.
She was producing stuff, like Doodles and Athena's date.
That's because Omarosa is a.
pro and she knows that to make a television sometimes you need to produce some things so she's like
why don't we set up a date for you guys like let's have a date so when you have the veterans or whatever
the reality tv veterans we know how it works and we'll make our own moments we'll make we'll produce
our own things essentially because we want air time and if you have a brain and you watch reality
tv you can see like what's going to get you air time especially if you reflect on your past seasons
or past whatever
Let's dive into the show a little bit
Got to get out again
Is on Hulu
Every episode is there
It premiered April 11th
You went into this thing
And you said at the beginning
I said why did you do it
And you like I need the money
I want the money
I guess was what you said
Did you think you could win this
When you walked into that house
I mean like no
Like I always just think no
Like there's not a chance
But I'm like maybe
I there always could be a chance so yeah I but I also I like to I set the bar as low as possible I expect the worst because then anything else is better so every time I go into a situation I expect the worst out of it like I'm gonna no one's gonna want to work with me and I'm gonna be isolated I'm expecting so when that happens because it does happen to me I'm okay because it's like I already knew that this would happen so I'm not like having a mental breakdown or blah blah I'm just like
well, I under, it makes sense.
I don't have any exit strategies.
Why would they want to work with me?

I was eight years old, and the Motown 25 special came on.
And all the great Motown artists, Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Diana Raw.
From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the source.
of the music and the purpose that drives it.
Listen to Culture raises us on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
podcasts.
You're the type of person also, though.
You have low expectations for your own performance.
I also would assume, though, from getting to know you a little bit, you don't have a lot of
expectations for others in terms of negative expectations for them.
you're not a judgmental person
and so when you walked in the house
you see the cast members
especially the ones you recognized
who surprised you the most
when you know the final day happened
on who you like the best
outside of Susan and Omarosa
because you've already mentioned them
and you love them and they're great
we put them on a pedestal
we knew they would be there
who else kind of surprised you the most
for how you got along with them
and how you kind of function with them
in the house well like a spoiler alert i mean she leaves early cynthia leaves early but when
cynthia was there um me and cynthia bailey i had a great relationship with her because she was
always watching the button and the button was right outside my bedroom so i was constantly just talking to her
and i gave her a little bear too that i made for her so i really got along with her and i really
she was a very like calming presence for me in the house too she was everyone else is acting and saying
and she's being normal in a human being, and it's awesome.
And also, there, someone who was a reality TV rookie, Shane, he's the MMA fighter.
I really, really like that guy.
I think he's with a girl, Lindsay, from the show.
They're still together now.
And they're wonderful.
I love them both.
I love them both.
Did they come on to the show together?
No.
I know.
A real life romance.
I know.
I know.
And so I think that I really like them.
I just think Shane is just a great guy.
And I think Lindsay's, I mean, she's super model.
She's perfect.
And she's Miss Earth.
She's wonderful.
They're great.
You know, celebrities, Val.
You know, I love Val.
Val's like family to me now in a weird way.
We all kind of our family in a weird way.
But like, I grew very close to Val.
was there anybody you didn't like
yeah but I
we're not supposed to talk bad about our cast
Bates oh
I'm not a huge I'm not listen
okay Spencer Pratt America's
sweetheart all right
is that what we call him
that's what he is now he's America's sweetheart right now
and he's in and he deserves every good
thing coming to him right now
Heidi
stunning icon legend
but me and Spencer we don't get along
too well for too long
I don't think that's saying anything bad about your castmates.
I just think it's saying, hey, you two aren't seeing eye to eye.
Who knows who's right and wrong?
You just aren't, you know, making it work.
And that's okay.
That's life.
That's what I say all the time.
It's okay.
It's okay not to like people.
Like if you watch the show, you'll see at one point he's in my hiding in my room.
And I say, not my room, not in my room.
Because he was hiding in there as I was talking about him.
And then I found him in there.
And I'm like, you've got to be kidding me.
Oh, that's good.
See, this is why people need to watch this show.
These moments.
There's so many moments.
Unbelievably funny.
Unbelievably funny.
And, like, oh, my gosh, a lot of the time it's Susan.
It's Susan.
She's just kind of a clown.
She just always is making people laugh, bringing a joy.
She's still to this day, I've probably hung out with Susan ten times.
I don't think I've ever stayed up later than her.
I think she consistently parties harder than anybody else every time.
We couldn't party in the house
if she was out early every night.
It was a dry house.
Really?
Yeah.
It worked out well for me
because, you know, I don't drink anymore.
Yeah, I was going to say that's,
but for some, that's like kind of like
the way that calmed down at the end of the day.
Yeah, I mean, I know that some people wanted it.
And it's like sometimes, you know,
I thought maybe it was time necessary for reality TV.
But no, this show, I'm, it's just proof that you don't,
you don't need the producers, you don't need the alcohol.
you just need to lock people up in a house together.
And also, like, no elimination.
So, like, you're not forced to leave.
Like, you're not, like, worried about getting cut.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
So, like, everyone's acting up because they don't care if you like them or not.
Yeah, they're themselves.
Like, there is no alliances really even need to be built, right?
Or they're built quickly because you got to figure out, like, if somebody, if you have
an exit strategy, somebody else has an exit strategy, but not everyone does.
So, like, your bestie that your partner might not have one.
so you need to team up with somebody else who you normally wouldn't work with.
Well, then how, like, describe the energy in the house then?
Like, without any alcohol, without any eliminations, with rookies and all stars in a mansion,
what was the energy like in the house, kind of if you can from day one and then when you finally
left, like, did that energy change at all?
Yes.
So day one, it was very excited, like, especially like these rookies.
They're so pumped to be on TV.
They're like the cameras, the mics.
Everyone's so excited.
That probably lasted for a couple days until someone escaped, which a spoiler alert.
And when that happened, everybody locked in.
And like, for a few days, it was terror in the house.
Like, everyone was on edge, mad, fighting, pissed off because I think that someone escaped is what happened.
And also, I guess there was like a rock star energy drink sponsorship because you got all these rock star energy drinks.
These people are going nuts.
Susan's doing cartwheels.
She drank this rock star and she's doing cartwheels.
People are screaming.
I didn't drink one because I'm like, I know that's not going to be good for me.
I've already got anxiety.
And so once everyone stopped drinking rock stars and everyone stop being mad, like the towards the end, they start doing more stuff to the house.
Like, boarding up the windows and stuff like that.
and the money is getting higher.
So it's, everyone is so intense.
Like everyone's running around constantly.
I mean, this is, I'm not kidding you,
at least every five minutes you hear,
where's Rashad?
Where's Rashad?
Because Rashad's the fastest one.
And so everyone thinks Rashad's going to escape.
So like every five minutes,
everyone's got to find eyes on Rashad.
Who sees Rashad?
Anyone got eyes on Rashad.
Where's he at?
Um,
and we're literally like this,
like this frantic running around,
this fall.
following each other. Like people we hadn't talked to the whole time hardly. I'm following them
shamelessly everywhere they go to make sure they're not escaping. Like it was crazy defense. It was,
we were all freaking out the whole time. Like there was not a second of relaxing that day. It was fun,
though. Like we were all, anytime we get the button on someone, we're like screaming at the
top of our lungs. Like it was, it was great. I mean, how do you have any privacy then? If that's the
kind of energy that's existing, say you got to go to the bathroom and you want to take a good
10 minutes to relax, were there people looking for you?
Yeah, there's actually a point on the show where Spencer's like,
Demi, because I'm in the bathroom, he's like,
Demi, can you come watch the button?
And I'm like, I'm in the bath.
Sorry.
It doesn't show it on the show, but like in the house that I was a huge, huge suspicion.
And everyone thought that I was doing something, especially this one night,
no one could find me.
And after this night, like people just were so suspicious of me.
The whole time I was in the bathtub.
Like that was where I was
No one ever checked
And anytime after that
Like say I would go to the bathroom
And I'd be gone for a little too long
I'm pooping
And then I come back
And everyone's like
Oh my God, there you are
Oh my God we thought you were gone
Look like it was the worst nightmare for me
I don't want people know me
I've never had an exit strategy
This whole time okay
I'm not the one to worry about
Not me
But it would have worked out
If I did have one
Yeah. I mean, okay. So as we close up here, got to get out is a show that you're encouraging everybody to watch that you're saying it's a fun energy. It's a funny show. It's lighthearted. Their drama is not to focus. There is still some drama though. Like there is actually like this really juicy relationship drama in there that like I didn't even know how bad it was like how like crazy they got. Like oh my gosh. So that was that was very interesting. That was tea. That was that was tea for me to see. That's fun to see. That's fun to see. That's fun.
when you're on reality television, you're like, I'm getting to witness something in person
that people are going to love to watch back when it airs. Oh, Demi, what a good person to have
on this show. I cannot think of a better All-Star than Demi coming on, got to get it out,
or got to get out. Demi, if they ask you again, it's always a marker for the show and how you feel
about it. If they ask you again to come back, if they're doing a second season, they're like,
hey, let's bring back some actual veterans from this show.
Would you say yes?
Absolutely.
Yeah, I think that it's, it was wonderful.
The people are wonderful, that the production team's wonderful.
It's fun.
I still love doing reality TV, even if it's like,
I'm uncomfortable doing it because my castmates,
I'm scared of them.
But like, I still love that I don't have any responsibilities except for whatever I'm
supposed to be doing on that show.
and I love the process.
I love being mic'd up.
I don't know.
It's just like the whole process of it.
I'm so in awe of it all and I love it.
I think that I would always say yes to like most reality shows.
Most.
