Kathy and Keith, come on. My favorite couple of friends, right? But you know what? There was a moment, if you guys remember, and Keith, you referenced this today.
Starting point is 00:03:35 You referenced when we all got together in February or whatever that was, January, February. Carmel. Carmel. And I was teasing you guys because you came in, you were late. I'm like, I think we got a love connection. And you guys have been this great friend connection. And it really resonated on the show. I mean, as a fan watching the show,
Starting point is 00:03:52 I should say this, as a fan of the two of you, because I've never really been a big Bachelor in Paradise watcher. I'm huge. Yeah, I know. I love it. I like Bachelor in Paradise the best. I know. You said it.
Starting point is 00:04:04 You love that it ends up being about love. But this year's whole season was really different, right? I mean, there was some twists in there, kind of some survivor-esque for lover money moments. I mean, there was a lot of, they threw the kitchen sink at this show this year. And for the first time ever, they had Goldens on. And you guys were there. how did you feel about that? Like you came into the situation.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I know that the two of you have always been good friends and you have a great friendship, but you immediately were providing counsel for these kids and it's just because you both couldn't just help yourselves, right? It was just like you're watching a hot mess. We're too quiet people. I mean, let's think about this. We each have three children.
Starting point is 00:04:39 We've raised three children each. I think we probably have opinions on how young adults should think, behave and act and make decisions. And so it kind of came to a second nature. Sure. I mean, out of all the Goldens, I think I have the youngest kids on everybody. So, you know, with everybody being 25 to 30-ish, whatever, I mean, it just was in my wheelhouse. I'd get along.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I'm hanging out with my kids' friends, you know. Yeah. So it was just easy just to get along. I know when to be quiet, no one to listen, no one to talk. And then they'd ask your opinions on some stuff. And one of the things, you know, we were sitting around when we first came in today. And Kathy, you were pretty emotional, getting back to get. with the cast. And I thought that was very sweet. And it was, you know, it really resonates
Starting point is 00:05:23 with what you said on the show, which was like, you know, I love these people. I love seeing love. Yeah. But you were like, I'm just so excited to be with them again. Yeah. For me, it wasn't about coming back. Well, first of all, I stayed out of the drama. So it was easy for me to come back. But it really was about seeing the youngans and seeing how their lives have developed and being so happy that so many of the relationships have taken off. Because as Keith and I have said, You know, for us, it's not about money at this chapter in our life. And in my life, it's about connection with people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:56 And both of us just forged these really close relationships with these young kids, and it was just so nice to see them again. We both keep in touch with different ones. Yeah, that's right. I love hearing that. And I had no idea how the show ended at all. And so when I would talk to them, I'd say, don't tell me. I don't want to know.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Oh, so you didn't want a spoiler or you didn't want to watch it. Spoiler or whatever. I mean, I talked to Alex probably out of most everybody there. And she started to say something like, no, no, stop. Don't tell me. Don't tell me. Yeah. Any big surprises for you guys today getting back together with your old castmates?
Starting point is 00:06:29 I mean, any relationships that you thought were going to make it that you were shocked to find out didn't? Or any that you feel like they told you that they're not together anymore and you're wishing they were? No. I didn't realize you had such a counseling type of relationship with Parisa. Me? I was shocked by that. Yeah. Not that you would have a counseling relationship with it because that's who you are as a nurturing person.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Right. But, you know, that you were basically, like she openly said, yeah, I told Kathy everything. Yeah, Parisa would come to me and, you know, she was stressed about the relationship with Brian and what he thought and was she doing the wrong thing. And honestly, that's why we talked about voting them off because Parisa particularly was really struggling. Yeah. with the emotion of being on the show in a relationship. And remember I said to you? Because I wasn't going to invite.
Starting point is 00:07:20 I didn't want to vote Brian off. Right. Well, I didn't either. And you came to me and said, no, you don't understand what Poresa is telling me in the background. Yeah. What they were going through. She was just really struggling with the environment and could they make it and what would it be like when they left? And so I said, you know, Parisa, she had told me she didn't care about the money.
Starting point is 00:07:41 Right. I don't care about the money. I'm not sure where Brian was. on that, but Preissa said she didn't care about the money. And I said, then you need to leave because if this is causing you stress, it's not a place for you to be. Yeah. No, I think that's great advice. I mean, you guys were great for that, though. I mean, it's kind of interesting. And Keith, we can speak candidly about this now. So when I first found out about the Golden's, I called Keith. And I go, Keith, don't take the bait. I don't think you should do this.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Remember? And he's like, what do you mean? I go, bud, I go, I just, these producers, man. Why didn't you call me? Well, because I knew you'd be fine. I was more worried about the guys, in all honesty. What I was, and I love Keith's personality, and it reminds me of me. And we got this kind of big, and my fear was that they were bait. Yeah, they think we're similar to Canadians. I was like, here's you and 10 years.
Starting point is 00:08:30 But I was concerned that the guys would go on there and they would edit the guys to look like creepy old men. That's what I was worried about. If I'm being frank. And so I was like, I even said to Keith, I'm like, dude, if you're going to do this, please don't take the bait. Because just keep in mind, it's a reality show. Cameras are running 100 miles an hour all the time. I'm like, watch your back, bro. Because I don't know these new producers.
Starting point is 00:08:51 I know the old ones, and they sure as hell would have done it. So my mindset was like, please, bud, just watch out for yourself. Because I love them so much and I love you so much. I just didn't want to, but I felt like the guys had more of a risk at looking bad. You know what I mean? They would just follow your eyes. The guys actually talked about it. They go, what happens if one of these young gals walks by in one of their bathing suits?
Starting point is 00:09:10 And, you know, they're just going to, they could even edit your eyes just going on. going like this, they can do anything. I mean, I would have been walking around like a zombie just looking straight ahead 24-7. You know, I don't even know what I would have done. But I was concerned that I'm so glad I was wrong. Yes. Like I was wrong about the Golden Bachelor, the Golden Bachelor, when they originally cast everyone. Because my fear, and I told you this, Kathy, was that they were going to do stunt casting.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yeah. Remember? And I was so glad they did age-appropriate casting. And then I was really happy with how the guys season worked out with Joan and all the guys at the cast. And then, so I've been wrong. Guys, I don't think it's ever. happened. But I've been wrong three times in a row time. Three strikes, baby. Three times. We love you, though. But I do think that most of the women thought, so I knew Keith, I knew most of the guys that
Starting point is 00:09:55 came before from my podcast on Golden Hour to doing eye-hard events. I knew most of them. And I love Keith. I love all the guys that were there, with a couple of exceptions. And so for me, I knew for myself, there wasn't going to be a love connection. But that didn't stop me from the experience because I honestly thought, you know, I'm a mom of three. And I felt like we could be of help to these young kids. And how many times did I say to you, I said to Keith, I don't want to leave. I feel like we have purpose here to help the young ones. And they felt like you did too. I remember that kind of powwow session that happened second to the last episode. And you guys and you were ready to go. And it was very touching. You were like,
Starting point is 00:10:40 I just want to go home. I want to see my kids. It was Bailey, Jess, and Jess actually voted for me to go home also. But she really meant, somebody had called me and they said, well, I think she was fake in the words. I go, no, and Alex, but all three of them, their words resonated with me. I knew they were being totally honest with me. And they said, no, we want you to stay. We, you know, we just, you know, they enjoyed our company.
Starting point is 00:11:03 They enjoyed the words that we would share. I mean, we really did. Honestly, I think Keith and I provided. sound wisdom with humor, counsel, and... And you're fun to hang out with. I mean, we had a blast every time we listened.
Starting point is 00:11:18 You know, you said, Keith, we knew when to listen. Well, he wanted me out of there. Oh, yeah, he said he's like, you're drinking him dry. When we left the bar night, Keith would say, wait, I need one to go.
Starting point is 00:11:27 And he would take it to his room. Smart man. Hi, my name is Enya Emanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect.

Starting point is 00:12:14 They're waiting for the unprotected. I'm Dr. Leslie, forensic psychologist. I advocate for safety and awareness of predators while wearing pink. When you were described to me as a forensic psychologist, I was like snooze. We ended up talking for hours, and I was like, this girl is my best friend. This is a podcast where I cut through the noise with sarcasm, satire, and hard truths. I'm not going to fake it and force it for me. Would you force an orgasm?
Starting point is 00:12:39 Because that's like a different layer. The car accident you didn't want to see but couldn't turn away from. In this episode, I discussed personal safety and self-defense, tools, instincts, and strategies to protect yourself and your loved ones in everyday life and high-risk situations. So the whole point, Keith wanted to go home, it's because he wanted to go camping with his daughters, right? And then like 17 episodes later,
Starting point is 00:15:50 you're on the parliament of the paradise. I'm like, when the hell are they going to let this guy go home? Did you ever get to go camping with the kids? Yeah, but not until July. So I hadn't waited a couple months. I got home to the trip. But I came back and, You know, they at least let me call my daughter to say, hey, I'm not going to be home.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Can you get, you know, call this guy, call, do this. She ended up not, she did her own thing. But, yeah, we've got camping, and it's, it's all good. Nah, that's awesome. It just all hit me at once. One, the show's a grind. Oh, yeah. Well, you're filming 24-7.
Starting point is 00:16:24 And then you guys are in the heat of Costa Rica, although you did have air-conditioning rooms, which was nicer than years in the past. 90-plus degrees out, 90-plus percent humidity. Wait, I'm just going to say. say, one of us had to have a hair dryer on his shirt 24-7. The other one of us was like, it's not hot out here. What's the problem? You're good with heat, aren't you? I live in Texas.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I look at saying, how hot is. I'm like, uh, not really. It's not that bad. Texas is that dry heat, too. Yeah, I know. My shirt one episode during my watch party, they're like, wow, what's that? And then the roast ceremony, they're like, how did it dry? I'm like, why the roast ceremony was like 30 minutes.
Starting point is 00:17:01 They were ironing out my sweat. The shirt will never be the same. No. So one of the big things that happened, obviously, that really changed the direction of the show was when April gave the flower to Jonathan. Yeah. Right? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:16 And I know I talked to Keith about it before. Kathy, you and I've talked about it too. I'd love for you to share with our listeners, you know, basically what you thought of that moment. And, you know, did you say anything to Jonathan afterwards? Obviously, it wasn't his fault, but it was like, you know, were you kind of like, Like, what do you do? Well, to be honest, which I was him, I had talked with April before, and that was not the plan, but I know April.
Starting point is 00:17:45 And there was this little glint in her eye, and I thought, oh, no, she's going to go rogue. She's going rogue. Because April loves a good TV moment. Yeah. And so, honestly, I wasn't surprised. You weren't. She was going to give the Rose to Jack. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Is that Captain Jack? No, God, no, that's Captain Jack. You know, Kevin Cam is one and Jack's the other. Okay. And I interview Jack. I like Jack. Yeah. Ken and Ball Jack.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Yes. So she was going to give to Jack and, you know, she'd had a make-out moment with Jack. And then she found out that Jack had had a date with someone that she didn't, you know, it was a Michigan. But Jack thought for sure he was getting the role. One thousand percent. He said she even said, I'm giving you the real. Yes. But that was an effed up row ceremony for the Golden's.
Starting point is 00:18:32 That was the most drama I saw. I'm throwing Gary kind of under the bus on this one because Natasha, he went off and Natasha talked to him. Yeah. And he flirted. Instead of being honest and saying, hey, I don't have an interest, he flirted with her. So then during the rose ceremony, she gives him the rose. And Leslie was already to give the rose to Gary.
Starting point is 00:18:52 And then all of a sudden, she had to think on her feet, like, what am I doing? So she gave a rose to Captain Kim. And then wait. And then wait, Leslie said to me, she didn't like him. And she said, I don't know, I didn't want to give the rose. him, I should have given it to C.K. Yeah. And so... I love C.K.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I adore him. Yeah, he's such a nice guy. And CK. And this guy here are my two guys. They are the sweetest of the guys. Yeah. And so, but, you know, the wheel was in motion. Yeah. And she gave it to Jonathan and C.K. went home and that set a whole... Yeah, it was almost like
Starting point is 00:19:28 Domino started falling. Yeah. Because then it screwed up, however, the producers probably had the men and women I said, okay, I'm going to really back up and give you the real truth. We're all sitting in the bedroom, and all of us golden girls are sitting in my room, and Leslie's saying, you know, I want to give the rose to Keith, and Natasha says, well, I want to give... To bury me. Sorry, my mind. I only advise for you.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Okay. So, so Leslie said, I'm going to give the rose. I want to give the rose to Gary. And Natasha said, well, I want to give the rose to Gary. And I looked up at the camera in the bedroom. I said, well, you just solved a problem for the producers. Because Natasha, you're going to be giving the rose first. So Leslie, figure it out.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Well, they didn't believe me. Show enough. Yeah. That's exactly what happened. All you got to do is be aware, and you're always very aware. So anyway, I think what happened was Gary didn't really pay Natasha any, never mind the next day. And it just said in motion this. You know, Natasha was upset.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Yeah. And then, and fast forward, then Nancy comes. That sort of sets everything up to. Well, and, you know, he's told Nancy he's only there for her. Right. And Nancy thinks she's getting the rose. And then he gives it to laugh. You know, you just cannot trust a man over 60.
Starting point is 00:20:52 What can I say? Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzoor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. Starting point is 00:25:09 You know, you said something earlier tonight I loved. You said there's lots of types of love. And you looked at your buddy Keith and you're like, and I love you. And I love your guy's friendship. I've always loved it. So one of the things I wanted to ask you about. So a lot of buzz and it came up. earlier today about Kat, possibly having a secret boyfriend and an iPad or something like that.
Starting point is 00:25:34 And there's been a lot of drama about that. And it came up and it seemed pretty aggressive in the earlier conversations. Did you hear those rumors on the show? And did you see anything that? I didn't hear those. So I was clueless to all that. I saw nothing, but I heard the rumor from Sean, you know, on the show. But, you know, I'm not.
Starting point is 00:25:55 So you didn't even hear it until Sean, the Parliament of Paradise showed out. Right. And here's the thing. We are of a certain age, and we know better. I'm speaking about both of us. We know better than to get, you know, dig into that and wrapped up in that. And so literally, I just literally said, I'm walking away from that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:15 I mean, I just want to know part of that. I wish, you know, it's probably, you know, how they wanted it to happen, but they should have just taken it off the side and talked to it off the side. Yeah. And that's what I said. That would have been the mature thing to do. That's not good. That's not good for the show.
Starting point is 00:26:30 The part of that where I really agree with you, and I actually brought it up to Sean earlier because I knew I wasn't going to get to interview him. But I go, you know, I said, it's interesting when you walk off the show and say, we're going to take ourselves out so we can maintain our integrity. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:45 And as you go out, you're like scorched earth. Yeah. The opposite of maintaining integrity, right? And by the way, you better watch you cross me because I'm coming for you. It's like, that's not integrity. Yeah. You know, it's like, but I get it.
Starting point is 00:26:55 the dude's good TV, and so I get that part. Kathy, you said something tonight that just cracked me up when she said, shocker. I know, no surprise, but I like took notes because I was loving it. You go, Sean said, you know, we were the strongest couple there. And you said, well, you know, and he goes, well, I don't think you know what you're talking about. And you go, they're engaged in case you missed it, which I just started laughing. I'm like, oh, my God, probably not supposed to live. I mean, seriously, I'm not trying to be funny.
Starting point is 00:27:23 There's fact and fiction. The facts are they're engaged. The facts are Sean and Alicia are not together. So let me do the math on this. You've got to have an engaged couple and you have a couple who the woman's living in California and he's living in Tampa, Florida, and they're not together. I don't know. I win.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Yeah, yeah. I think facts are facts. There's nothing we can do about it. All right. So last couple questions I got for you guys. So Keith, I want to talk about this one more time because I just love your girl dad. I love how much you love your daughters. You're there in paradise. Everyone starts looking at the tail end especially. I noticed the last two episodes especially, it was everyone was really
Starting point is 00:28:07 looking to you guys for guidance. They were all kind of coming off the rails. Did you feel like at one point were you kind of like, man, I didn't realize having three girls would prepare me so well for being in Bachelor in Paradise. I don't know if it was, I didn't think of it that way. It was, you know, everybody already had their ideas of how they wanted to vote. And I just knew that I wanted to stay true to who I was and what Bachelor in Paradise was. So that's all I wanted to. Alicia and Sean had sat down with this. By the way, I'll hire Sean.
Starting point is 00:28:38 God, he turned my words around on me. I was like, dude, you were good. That's not what I said. That I'll hire you. You're a great sales guy. You might be a good lobby. Yeah, well, he said that's what he wanted to do. So, no, but it was, you know, I wanted to stay true, and that's what I just tried to project to the people there.
Starting point is 00:28:57 I think the one thing that kind of threw people off, though, is when I said, I wanted to go home, but then when they asked me, well, who'd you vote for? And I said, well, I voted, I didn't vote for me. I voted for Jonathan. And then I went to Kathy, I think even that day, and I said, I think it's going to be a tie. I kind of, I started counting the votes. I said, we may have a chance here. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Yeah. And so, of course, the way editing works, I'm like, you know, you know, you know, so. you wanted to go home, we're there, people like, what the hell? Right. But I just want to say one thing about Keith, I think one of the reasons we were so successful and use whatever term you want. We stayed a long time because we were true to ourselves. We genuinely like each other and we respect each other.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And I think when I was struggling, Keith was there for me. And when he was struggling, I was there for him. And I think the young and saw that. And so to me, and I think to us, being a good model, you know, not making out in the pool for the cameras, we were true to who we are. Yeah. And I stand by that. Yeah. And I agree.
Starting point is 00:30:03 And I think that I hope that Bachelor Nation sees that. Oh, they do. That being who we are. I mean, I stayed on my, on Joan's season. I stayed until right before hometowns. Yeah. And I think Joan and I knew there was no connection. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:19 No, Tristan and I were the same way. right before hometowns, too. Wait, I just want to get this straight. No connection with Joan. No connection with me. Exactly what are you looking for? She's got a really good point there, Keith. I'm still looking.
Starting point is 00:30:31 And I'll know when it happens, it's going to be out there for me. I want to say this. You stayed around so long for the exact reasons that Kathy said, but I think one more thing that I love about the both of you is that kindness counts. Yes. And you guys were kind and you listened. We are kind. You're very kind people.
Starting point is 00:30:46 You're beautiful people. I love you both so much. So glad we become such good friends. I love watching you guys on the show. And I just think that what you guys brought to the show was so needed, especially with the format wobbling all over the place. I mean, we didn't know what the hell I was watching half the time. But the one thing that I couldn't watch where you guys were kind of like the moral compass of the show,
Starting point is 00:31:04 which I thought was a great role for both of you. I'm not even trying to brag or put the Golden's higher, but the show was kind of slow those first couple episodes. I was like, where's this going? I didn't have enough of it. And then I saw the Golden's come. and even that first episode. But then by the fourth, fifth,
Starting point is 00:31:22 I was like, okay, now they were starting to build the stories and figuring it out. It got so good. But you know why I think that is? I think that we, you and I, as Goldens, are being who we are. We're genuine in front of the camera, behind the camera. I think the youngans sometimes were thinking,
Starting point is 00:31:42 how will this play? Right. What'll look good. You and I were just like we were who we were. And I think that resonated with the audience. Well, you two are clearly fan favorites. You always have been since you were introduced to both of us or all of us on both your respective shows. You're my favorites.
Starting point is 00:32:00 So I'm so glad you guys came in. Oh, God bless you, buddy. I love you. I like candy. I may say that I love Canyon more. I understand. But I love you. I love you too.
