Starting point is 00:00:41 I'm Lola Blanc and I'm Megan Elizabeth. We're the host of Trust Me, a podcast about cults, manipulation, and the psychology of belief. Each week we talk to fellow survivors, former believers, and experts to understand why people get pulled in and how they get out. Trust me, new episodes every Wednesday on Exactly Right. and wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different. What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club? Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story. Does anyone know what show they've come to see?
Starting point is 00:01:22 It's a story. It's about the scariest night of my life. This is Wisecrack, available now. Listen to Wisecrack. on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA. Right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. On the new podcast, America's Crime Lab, every case has a story to tell.
Starting point is 00:01:45 And the DNA holds the truth. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. This technology's already solving so many cases. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is the Ben and Ashley I, I Almost Famous Podcasts with IHart Radio. It's an almost famous podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:11 We are back in our homes, comfortable, happy, healthy, rested after a massive golden wedding that brought in a ton of viewers. We'll talk about that later. But Ashley, to kick us off today, getting to this golden wedding was special. special for everybody. It was in Palm Springs. I got a text from your husband that said that Ashley brought a tuna sandwich onto the plane. I really have no follow up other than I've never really ever been mad at you. I've never even really been upset with you. And I feel like for the first time, I was. I'm sorry, Ben. To be totally honest, didn't even realize when I was. I didn't even realize when I got it, that I was going on to a plane.
Starting point is 00:03:00 I just, I didn't connect. That sounds like an excuse my wife would use. Like, I wasn't thinking. I know it's a faux pa. I'm so sorry. I legitimately didn't even think about it until I pulled it out of the bag on the airplane. And I was like, oh, crap, it's tuna. My bad, but also, like, sorry, I have to eat it.
Starting point is 00:03:23 It's a four and a half hour flight. That's what I got. okay we're going to walk through this step by step one um jessica always uses or used to use the excuse i wasn't thinking okay but she did she bring it to you a sandwich on a plane well no but just in general like i would be like why did you do that and she's like i don't know i just wasn't thinking i was like that not thinking is not an excuse like that that's the opposite of an excuse to me um how bad was it like outside of your row i don't know like it smelled potent when I first took it out
Starting point is 00:04:02 and then I was like okay but how far is this really spreading I would probably just say like the person in front of me maybe the person behind me probably the person behind them they're all getting sick and you wondered why everybody was getting sick on this fight it's only like 15 minutes guys of eating I I don't think I don't have a problem if somebody brought tuna out on my plane I'd be like jealous I want tuna I just love tuna so much
Starting point is 00:04:26 Yeah. I don't think the smell grosses me out. Like, if somebody was cooking broccoli on my flight, that would be gross. Because you know when you cook broccoli and then you walk into your house a couple hours later and it just reeks. It smells like farts. Yeah. That smells like rotten, poopy. That smells like poohy. Tuna smells like tuna. Okay. According to the public opinion, 75,000. people voted 98% said it was a party fat where are you finding the stat not that I disagree I'm not saying this is the this is my poll that I took that said is this a party foul oh yeah and you were
Starting point is 00:05:09 one of the two percent that said it was actually I did I voted against myself because I was like oh if I was thinking I wouldn't have done it but I but then like I also like again I don't think I don't think I don't think I have an issue with somebody taking it too I'm just doing it out of like the kindness because some people react to it. like you. Okay. So we're going to close that chapter and just say that Ashley, never do it again.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Not appropriate for any flight. Why does the freaking sandwich place have tuna then at the... Don't blame this on now. This is on you. They want you needed before the flight. Yeah, this is on you. Then I got a phone call from my good friend Ashley, a very sweet phone call saying that she got me a gift for the holiday.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Okay. Let's be freaking frank here. I did not get you a gift. I was given as influencers do. We get sent things all the time that we don't ask for. We have no idea what's coming to our front step. I've never got this sent to me. I don't know why we did. But Jared apparently talks about poop sometimes on his podcast. And because of that, we've gotten a lot of poop wipes, like a lot of toilet, you know, bathroom wipes, which I always always. always appreciate those. But we also got this that Ben will tell you about now. And I just want to say that, like, yes, Ben, Ben's cute to make it sound like it was a Christmas gift, but no, it was a free gift that I just knew we weren't going to actually hook up. Yeah. It re-gifted and she thought of me, which is sweet. Ashley traveled with this. I want to be clear, to Palm Springs from Boston, in her carry-on. You know, on this podcast, one of the the number one things when it comes to speaking with your voice is you know you don't use potty jokes like this isn't something that people enjoy listening to however this is different to me because
Starting point is 00:07:07 I felt like it was thoughtful and I'm going to consider to think I'm going to continue to think it was thoughtful no matter what Ashley says she got me a bidet and this bidet is already hooked up it is functioning it is fantastic great what is it called again we'll give the brand a shout out since oh I don't know shoot uh I think it's called Tushy Tushy something. Tushy something. I'll look it up.
Starting point is 00:07:31 I'll look it up. I'll go that. Tishy bidet. It's just maybe Tushy, I think could be the brand here. Oh, that's the brand. It's called Tushy. Tushy.
Starting point is 00:07:39 The modern and sustainable bidet company. It is amazing. It is fantastic. Ashley, after so many years of doing this, obviously is a place of knowing me to where I would appreciate this and I would enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:07:54 um like i just want to say thank you and i also want to say it is impressive it is so impressive to me that you did put this in your carry on and fly across country with it um i would have loved for them to check your back i would have love for them to pull this out then you'd be like yeah i just i have to travel with my bidet because you could hook this up like the way it's set up is you could hook it up to your hotel room oh my god you could was the hook up that easy that's so easy it's so beautiful. It's so fantastic. It's made my life increasingly better. If you have not experienced this, a lot of the world is still using this technology. And the U.S. has forgotten it. And I feel like it's something we should bring back, something we should promote and push. And I'm thankful for
Starting point is 00:08:43 Ashley for doing this for me. That was another, so this is all starting the wedding now. So Ashley travels with a bidet and a tuna sandwich. Do you want to explain to people why I would think that you like of a day. I'm, I've always been a non, like, I've always been a shower. Yeah. No, I've always been a shower. Like, that's my thing is like, you use the restroom, you go to the shower. Yeah, but Ben, what we, we've heard about you.
Starting point is 00:09:06 And I don't know if we've ever even talked about it. Maybe it's been like very early on in the podcast, but like you're, I can't believe this is. I'm kind of anti-paper. Yeah, you like, don't use toilet paper. I'm like, I like this, I like, I like, I like to be supple. But, but why is, is how I'd, is how I'd, Sustainable or what do you mean supple?
Starting point is 00:09:25 Supple. What does that mean? Non-calist, untouched. Why? Some poops, a lot of poops require that you wipe. It's more natural. Well, yeah, I mean, things happen. But like you, I would prefer to clean myself with a bidet.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Which I'm just so glad that now you're not jumping in the shower after a poop, you are using this bidet. Like I, this is why I, got this and I said the only person I know who does this I'm not the only person who does this trust me no no the only person I know personally from stories that's going to appreciate this fully is Ben I get you know the influencer gifts all the time like they're great but sometimes you're just like I don't need this I don't I you know I wish I know somebody would love it and I had the opportunity to really pass it on this time so I was just about to see you
Starting point is 00:10:20 And make a man very happy. And his response in text was so funny. We were like, oh my goodness gracious, this is outstanding. Yeah, this is the best gift I've received in a long time. So Ashley continues to win on the way to the wedding. We make it to Palm Springs to this golden wedding. It is at the Lakeinta Resort, which you've seen on the show before. It's where they have to.
Starting point is 00:10:45 But they quarantine there. So we have to see a lot of this resort. It is magnificent. We aren't getting paid to say that. It is a magnificent resort. It's really beautiful. It's well set up, and the rooms are incredible. The rooms are so nice.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And the scenery, I don't know why it's like my vision looks very HD without glasses. There's something about those mountains that surround it that are just like crystal clear, and it looks like you're on a Hollywood backdrop. It really does. It looks fake. And, I mean, in a sense, Palm Springs is fake because it's in the middle of the desert, and yet there's plants and greenery. So it is.
Starting point is 00:11:23 It looks very, like it very much looks fake when you're there, but it's a beautiful setting for this wedding. And what I appreciated and what I enjoyed, and you weren't able to be down there for most of it. But this was not like a closed off event, right? So the bar opens up that evening. And it's just dinner with most of the people from the wedding. The resort was not closed down.
Starting point is 00:11:50 so there was other guests in there. We had a huge table full of most of the people who were attending this wedding. Yeah, so nice. And Gary was even there. So he came in and hung out. It was interesting because I got the first conversation between him and Leslie.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Like with my eyes, they were talking. And it was very... No way. Oh, yeah. It was very weird to be so close to something like that. Or maybe it was Faith. It was Faith and Gary who were talking. uh kind of you know closing up any loose ends there wasn't i don't feel like a lot of loose ends there
Starting point is 00:12:26 but i was witnessing it and again it kind of brought me back to those memories that i you know when you're on the show and you're like i'm getting a front row seat that what so many people people are curious about like why is faith here why is leslie here are they on good terms is they're still you know pain involved and where they forced to come maybe and so i was getting a front row seat at these questions getting answers to them yeah you want to talk about them. It was fascinating. Yeah, we can. We can definitely talk about. We're going to have some interviews too coming out. You had some interviews with them. Did you talk to Leslie and Faith? We did. Yeah, we got to talk to Leslie in a faith. And, you know, really with Leslie, I was most intrigued
Starting point is 00:13:05 by, Ashley. So I was, I was kind of thrown off. You know, it was kind of the rumblings on this, at the side table that we were at during the bar scene when they were talking was, why is Leslie here? Like, not that she shouldn't be there. She wanted to. It felt. very forced. She did not want to be. But I felt like, okay, but the answer is she did. She didn't want to be. She was friends with Teresa. She said. And at the end of the day, she was celebrating their love story. And she was so thankful that they found love. And here's the other part. And she'll go into deeper detail during our interview with her. And it's definitely worth a listen. And this makes a lot of sense to me. Leslie wanted to be there. And I want to
Starting point is 00:13:44 make that clear. Okay. But that sounds to me like a PR response. No. And here's why. She explained it. She says as the runner-up, and you know this from your friends who are runner-ups and from the experience, you're very isolated. You're not the winner. You're not with the guy. But you're also, you've been on the show long enough where a lot of the other people have started to hang out already. If we're talking Bachelor and Bachelorette, maybe they're getting asked to go to Paradise and they're spending Paradise together. Or, you know, maybe they're going to dinners together. As the runner up, you're oftentimes kind of isolated and your view not only as like, oh, she made it so far, but you're not kind of welcome to that field of earlier like rejections. This is a pattern. It's a pattern. And she said that she's missed out on one too many times with her friends from the show. And she wanted to experience a weekend with her friends from the show in Palm Springs.
Starting point is 00:14:47 And again, she gets in the more detail on this. but I do believe after talking to her and after seeing her there, I think it was probably hard and maybe a little awkward at times. But I do fully believe that she wanted to be there and that she's glad she went. You can believe that and I will believe. You don't believe it. I believe that she was encouraged to be there, that it would be a good look for her to be there,
Starting point is 00:15:12 for her possibly becoming the next golden bachelorette, her and faith. and that's what I think. And I think that what you're saying was a nice little benefit of going. But if there was a no strings attached decision, she wouldn't have gone. Okay. Well, listen to the interview.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Hear it from her mouth. It's going to be probably, we'll put it out there pretty soon. You'll see it come across our thread. My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly. and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon.
Starting point is 00:15:56 This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy? That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them.
Starting point is 00:16:18 I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not? To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts. Also, Ashley, you know, after that evening, we kind of jump in then to the next day. which was pretty nonchalant. Played some golf with a bunch of the guys.
Starting point is 00:18:48 I don't, you kind of like hung out. I played with Jared and Tanner and Chris Siegfried and Jason Mezzanick and Adam Gottschalk and Joey, the next bachelor was able to join us. Dean and Wells were there as well. Yeah, let us know. What's Joey's vibes like?
Starting point is 00:19:02 I got to hang out with him pretty briefly. We talked about Sydney, who I got on his season. But that's really all I talked him about. What about? You know, Joey and I've been able to talk quite a few times now. And he's really great.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Dean actually, and I quote, said he's the first bachelor he's actually enjoyed hanging out with since Sean Lowe. Since Sean Lowe, wait. He did say that to me. That's funny. But Joey, Joey is, he was really fun to be around. He's a good golfer. He is very chill. Does not seem overwhelmed at all right now.
Starting point is 00:19:41 does not also seem like he's desiring more attention than what he's getting. He's getting a lot of attention, but he doesn't seem to be out there like searching for it necessarily. He definitely is a guy who wants to find somebody. I really believe that. I believe his life is in that place. I have nothing but positive things to say about Joey. And I also just think he's a good time, which hasn't always happened with bachelors that I've hung out with. I haven't been necessarily saying, oh, I'd love to kick it with you again.
Starting point is 00:20:13 If I'm in Joey's area when we have an event, Joey will definitely be somebody I want to hang out with, not only, you know, because he's a great time and he's a nice guy, but he's just kind of has that like, hey, I'm very thankful for this opportunity vibe, you know? Like, I don't, I don't look at this any differently than what it is. It's a great opportunity. And I've been asked to do something that is wild and unexpected. And I'm going to enjoy every moment I can. but I'm also probably going to be pretty stressed out because I took this very serious. I like him.
Starting point is 00:20:44 And I'm very excited for a season. Yeah, he's a cool vibe. He has a swag for sure. And he just seemed very comfortable, right? Yeah, definitely. Okay, so a question for you, actually. You had mentioned on a couple podcasts ago, you said, hey, during charity season,
Starting point is 00:21:06 you weren't, like, you thought he was an attractive, dude, but you weren't, like, blown away. He didn't, like, stand out to you necessarily. After being with him in person, stand out, not stand out. Yes, he's very hot. Yeah, he's good looking dad. He's very, very good looking. He looks, like I still say, on charity season, like, nice, sweet-looking guy, right?
Starting point is 00:21:28 Then when they brought him out on after the final rose, he looked like a total stud. And I was like, what kind of bachelor makeover did they give you? I think it's really all in the hair. and I that applies in person too looks great super super cute guy um but like I know you're gonna say best looking bachelor since blah blah blah and I you guys are all beautiful men well I appreciate that I mean he's a good looking guy I don't think we can take anything away um you know if you start quantifying good looks in in any situation it gets weird yeah so I'm not gonna rank you guys right now yeah please don't as far as my personal taste
Starting point is 00:22:06 goes, he is, I prefer his look to others. Others. I'm not going to say he's the hottest bachelor ever, but I'll say that he's, he's very handsome. If you were, if you were on his season, you'd be thrilled back in the day. Yeah. Yeah, I'd be like, okay, this is a guy that I would definitely, like, yes. Date. A couple, uh, quick hits from the wedding. Uh, Ashley, we get to see a great appearance of you just chowing down on national television moment of my life and not meaning to right i mean i think that's some people's speculation is that you saw the cameras you walked by and you're like i'm going to take a big bite of food absolutely not i was like eating and then i was like oh the camera cameras are there i love cameras and i was like and then it was like oh i totally just ate on camera
Starting point is 00:22:57 and i classic me yeah uh also you left uh the wedding fairly early um So did I. But here's a deal. The wedding started. Well, yeah, that's kind of why. We, the reception didn't. At 4 o'clock. Well, what do you mean? The wedding started at 4. But like, we left the reception at 9. We had to wake up at 5 a.m. Yeah. I mean, I was right behind you at 9.45. Really? Oh, 945. I had to wake up early to record these episodes. And so I was kind of like. And guys, I wasn't there because we had to get back for Dawson. I would have had to, because the time change and the floor. flight distance, it's just, it would have been a whole other night of me staying there. So thank you to Trista for taking care of my spot there. Okay, two more things, some quick hits. The wedding was set up like this, what we saw on national television, which was very live.
Starting point is 00:23:56 I don't know necessarily. Here's some questions that I've been getting. I don't know how they did the commercial breaks because the wedding itself, the ceremony was very smooth and never had a break. once it got started. Where were you? Yes, it did. Like, once they, once Susan started, there was never like an awkward pause.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I think there were certain parts. I have to watch, I didn't watch it live yet. I think that, you mean once the actual ceremony started? I think they may have fate. It could have been, like, why even say anything? I should just watch it back, but I don't know how. Hulu's going to break that out. What I'm saying, Ashley, is, like, for people watching on television, my dad included,
Starting point is 00:24:43 which does not watch a lot of The Bachelor show, but he watched this. He goes, I was frustrated because, like, they would start the vows, and then they'd be like, after the break, Teresa's vows. And I'll be like, that was not how it played out. It was very smooth. It was not awkward there. They did not pause in between, like, their vows. Okay, no.
Starting point is 00:25:01 So I'm assuming that they just went without a commercial break in that stretch. no they did have a commercial break what i'm saying is they did but it was not it was not like when we were there it was smooth there was never a break once it started but you're saying there was a break on tv there was a break so there must have been a part that they just added in the ceremony that they were just like we're not going to televise this part sure that's been a fine way to do it i just wanted to give our listeners some peace of mind because they were frustrated i think with the amount of commercials and how awkward that must have been for Gary and Teresa, and I wanted to let them know
Starting point is 00:25:39 that it was not awkward when you were there because there was never a break in the ceremony. In the ceremony. But let's be really honest, it was a little awkward that there was a break during the like processional. Definitely. Oh, 100%. But that was the only part.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Yeah. Which... The ceremony itself was beautiful. Susan absolutely killed it. I mean, just absolutely was a... amazing. Gary and Teresa, there was a lot of love in the air. I did get teary-eyed when the daughters made this statement. You know, the world sees you as the first golden bachelor, but we still just see you as dad. And you could see this thing on Gary's face of almost like, I've done it. Like,
Starting point is 00:26:21 it's done. And I did exactly what I wanted to do, right? I found love. And I stayed true to who I was. Favorite part of the wedding, Ashley. For me? I think honestly, like, just watching you wait is that awful you're I'm supposed obviously seeing the lovely bride and groom get married and be so emotional that's awesome
Starting point is 00:26:46 but I also just loved watching Ben who had this king chair on the aisle and like everybody else is all like shoulder to shoulder on these couches and then we just like see the golden bachelor himself get like this prime seat I did have like a king chair
Starting point is 00:27:03 I was feeling real cool Yeah, and I just like seeing you in like that hilarious element. It was fantastic. When I sat down and I had my own chair, I was thrilled. I mean, it does. You need small moments in life these days to make you feel more important than you are. And I did feel pretty important there. You are always like so insecure about your place in like this bachelor world.
Starting point is 00:27:25 And I was like having him have the king chair just, it gives him some security for once. I might get invited back. They gave that to you after all. you're complaining about having not been part of the season. After the ceremony then, we had a great reception with the Dan Band, who I really couldn't figure out what was going on there. Well, let's explain the Dan Band for a second.
Starting point is 00:27:46 So they're in wedding crasters, the hangover and old school. You know, they're always known for kind of their funny appearances. But it didn't feel like, I think they were live. But I didn't understand what was happening. because it wasn't like they were actually singing
Starting point is 00:28:06 and then they were done. Yeah, there was a blip in the radar. I was chatting. I didn't even notice. The only reason I noticed is because I wanted to dance. I mean, that's what weddings are all about. And you couldn't dance to them. Like, it was like I didn't exactly understand what was happening.
Starting point is 00:28:28 So, you know, I pulled Leslie out on the dance floor and the show is like, you know, kind of over the intercom or maybe a producer said to me, I don't know, they're like, okay, we're dance parties getting started. I was like, I'm out there. And there was no music playing, but people kind of were dancing. And I think that's what they showed on TV was me like dancing to like some like Dan band music that wasn't really playing. Oh, did they put it over?
Starting point is 00:28:54 Yeah, they put like the Golden Bachelor theme over it to make, probably to make it look less awkward for me because I was dancing to nothing. I thought the dance party was starting. And like 20 seconds that I was in, I was like, Leslie's told me, she looked at me, she goes, there's no music playing. I was like, you're right. There's no music playing. I'm just dancing. This is just proof that at weddings, which I am not a dancer. I do not like today. I don't enjoy it. Guys, what I enjoy at weddings is sitting next to some of my lady friends and just sitting at the table and chatting. Just because I don't like dancing doesn't mean I'm not going to have fun. It's just I'm not a dancer. And this is just proof that I had, I was not going to listen to them when they told
Starting point is 00:29:35 me to dance because I didn't even know that unfolded that you were dancing to nothing. All I know is that you had some viral moments with Caitlin and you looked like you were having a great time and you were definitely on some, you were hearing some beat in your head because I saw some, um, like some little videos with overlay that said something like when you find your, your ex on the dance floor because it's sweet how you and Caitlin obviously have a nice friendship and it's like once upon the time you did have a fantasy suite too. Yeah. We've always been friends though. Let's be clear. I knew my role in that season. And it was definitely in the friend zone. I was like a safety net to come to when things got too dramatic during that season. Caitlin and I were always be friends.
Starting point is 00:30:20 I mean, I think Caitlin is one of the most interesting, caring people I've ever met. And, you know what? Like, if we're honest here, this wedding was a little awkward for her. We should totally bring this up. Yeah. I mean, you had, coming off of last week's rumors and kind of like New Year's pictures, you had Tasia and Caitlin in the same room, which, you know, we kind of hinted at desiring. I actually the time did not know that Tasha was going to be at the wedding.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I knew that she was invited, but I was feeling, like, in the lead-up of that week, that one of them might just be like, you know, I decided not to come. Don't need that camera, that FaceTime, right? I don't need you to, like, flash to my face, then flashed to Caitlin's face. And in my podcast leading up to the wedding, I was asking, like, all the people I was interviewing, are we going to see some drama between this? Are they going to do the whole split screen type thing between the two of them? They did not create any drama at this wedding, which is kind of what my gut said they weren't going to.
Starting point is 00:31:34 My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious. Well, wait a minute, Sam, maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit. Well, Dakota, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This person writes, my boyfriend has been hanging out with his young professor a lot. He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her. Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone. Now, hold up. Isn't that against school policy?
Starting point is 00:31:58 That sounds totally inappropriate. Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor and they're the same age. And it's even more likely that they're cheating. He insists there's nothing between them. I mean, do you believe him? Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him because he now wants them both to meet. So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend, really cheated with his professor or not.
Starting point is 00:32:18 To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, my name is Enya Umanzor. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. What would you do if one bad decision forced you to choose between a maximum security prison or the most brutal boot camp designed to be hell on earth?
Starting point is 00:33:04 Unfortunately for Mark Lombardo, this was the choice he faced. He said, you are a number, a New York State number, and we own you. Shock incarceration. also known as boot camps, are short-term, highly regimented correctional programs that mimic military basic training. These programs aim to provide a shock of prison life, emphasizing strict discipline, physical training,
Starting point is 00:33:29 hard labor, and rehabilitation programs. Mark had one chance to complete this program and had no idea of the hell awaiting him the next six months. The first night was so overwhelming, and you don't know who's next to you. And we didn't know what to expect in the morning. Nobody tells you anything. Listen to shock incarceration on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Hola, it's Honey German, and my podcast, Grasasas Come Again, is back. This season, we're going even deeper into the world of music and entertainment with raw and honest conversations with some of your favorite Latin artists and celebrities. You didn't have to audition? No, I didn't audition. I haven't auditioned in, like, over 25 years. Oh, wow. That's some real G-talk right there. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:15 We've got some of the biggest actors, musicians, content creators, and culture shifters sharing their real stories of failure and success. I feel like this is my destiny. You were destined to be a start. We talk all about what's viral and trending with a little bit of chisement, a lot of laughs, and those amazing vivas you've come to expect.
Starting point is 00:34:35 And of course, we'll explore deeper topics dealing with identity, struggles, and all the issues affecting our Latin community. You feel like you get a little whitewash because you have to do the code switching? I won't say whitewash because at the end of the day, you know, I'm me. Yeah. But the whole pretending and code, you know, it takes a toll on you. Listen to the new season of Grasas Has Come Again as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:35:06 I saw that they were actually sitting at your dinner table and I. Yeah, I was between the table. two of them. I legitimately told, like, Caitlin, and I think I've told Chachishu. I talked to them both. I like them both. They're both friends of mine.
Starting point is 00:35:20 I was just, of course, me too. I was like, you know what? My theory is that, like, at this age and place that we are, and there's so many people here, if you don't want to say hi to someone, you don't have to say hi to someone. Just, you know, walk on by. And then I said, they're placed the same dinner table in the non-televised reception. Tell me about that. So after the reception that people saw on TV and when that was over, they did have a non-televised reception, which was beautiful and so much fun.
Starting point is 00:35:53 I mean, it was really a big party. And it felt like any other wedding you've ever been at, there were not cameras other than, you know, kind of the wedding cameras and cell phones. There was an incredible band that, you know, played and kept the music going all night. great dancing great drink incredible food but yeah everybody sat at tables assigned seats and wells and i kind of were sitting next to each other uh you had your place like you had a marker and where you're sitting and i was sitting it just ended up being katelyn was on my left wells was then one seat over from her um and then tasha or it was Ellen from the golden bachelor and then tasha uh to my right they you know i just think they did exactly what you
Starting point is 00:36:40 I think the philosophy is, hey, there's a lot of rumors up in the air. I don't think we're going to clear it up tonight at a wedding. And so there wasn't a lot of conversing, which is probably fair. And so there was no drama, which is also very fair. The only drama of the evening was the fact that Braden and Christina got engaged at a wedding. We love, love here, celebrate love. But I never knew you could do that. Like when you're at somebody else's wedding, can you get engaged?
Starting point is 00:37:13 When the I-Heart team texted us about this and like whether it was appropriate or not, because it happened at a bachelor wedding, I didn't even think twice about it. I was like, of course that's going to happen. Like if there was a proposal on the table, one to be had, I'm pretty sure it would be encouraged. And I guess outside of the bachelor world, that would be the worst thing ever. But I think it's totally fine. fine here. I don't think that Christina and Brayden are going to overshadow the couple. No. And it was in such a separate environment that it never kind of crossed over. And it
Starting point is 00:37:50 wasn't like people were celebrating the two of them at the reception. I said at one point Braden walked up and I was like, hey man, you're engaged. Like, congrats. That's a big deal. Like if Leslie got engaged or like Faith got engaged, like okay, but it seemed like a little bit of separate worlds. Yeah. It was in like a countdown section of the episode as well. You know, It just seemed like a Bachelor reunion show at that point. In any other world, this is totally inappropriate. In this world, it just feels like it fits. Now, why did the show want this?
Starting point is 00:38:22 I don't know. Like, I don't know why they can, like, here's my take on the Golden Bachelor. And then we'll get into some of the headlines here. My take on the Golden Bachelor is people liked it because of the authenticity, kind of the lack of bachelorness to it. Like, it wasn't tacky. it wasn't overblown it wasn't dramatic there's a genuineness there's an authenticity there was a kind of a cleanness to it like it was like uh it was almost put on a pedestal where it was protected
Starting point is 00:38:51 and i do feel like this wedding at times uh felt too bachelor-esque to me like it could have just been a beautiful ceremony and the show would have done great but i do feel like the show needs to be smart when it comes to what they allow to enter into their golden bachelor show because you don't want to diminish the value and the realness of that show yet. I mean, they've, you know, it's a, it's a very fine line. And, um, and I do. I think the golden bachelor and bachelorette can be that show that you watch for like inspiration, uh, for emotion, for true story. And it doesn't need the other stuff added in. And you thought that this made it borderline?
Starting point is 00:39:38 I think it made it borderline. Yeah, I do. I do. I think it made it borderline. I mean, again, I'm very happy. Braden and Christina were a beautiful couple, and they seem very excited to be together and engaged, and they are both very happy.
Starting point is 00:39:53 And I don't want to take that away from them. Like, this is a great moment for them. And I know there were reasons why they probably did it on television. There's incentives not to get paid, but Neil Lane was there. So who knows where that ring came from? I'm pretty sure they got Neil Lane rang. which that's nice.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Yeah, that's a nice thing. And I understand, you know, why you'd be like, yeah, let's just go ahead and do it on TV and get to Neil Lane Ring and right off into the sunset. I get that. And I'm not mad at him for it. I just think the show in it's, in general, needs to be protective of this new kind of franchise
Starting point is 00:40:32 that they're spinning off because I think it has a lot of potential and you don't want to cheapen it, I guess is my point. Maybe people will disagree with me, but I just, I don't, I want the golden to always be that show that we watch and learn from and not watch and maybe go, oh, yeah, that crazy Bachelor stuff. Like, they're dressed up in wedding dresses again and they're running through the feet. Like, I don't want that. Yeah. I want that to be taken away here.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Yeah. On another note, funny, because Braden wanted to make sure that her nails were done. so he was like, why don't we go the spot together and we'll both get our nails done and I'll get my, I'll get a manicure for the first time. And she was all like, I don't know. Like, I think I'm okay. Like, he needed to drag her to the spa. So, I'm really cute.
Starting point is 00:41:24 And it was also the week before they moved to Nashville. He got a job in Nashville so he could be, obviously they're moving to her because she is a daughter. Yeah. Well, long story short, I had a lot of fun at the wedding. The after reception was my favorite part. Everybody let loose. Everybody had a good time. There was incredible dancing again.
Starting point is 00:41:49 There was very little drama. I'm very thankful that this reunion of sorts, Trista said it a lot during our interviews. She's always very thankful for these get-togethers again because they are, the reunions. and they're places for us to kind of regroup and be in person with each other. And we get to catch up on what's going on in each other lives. We get to have fun together. We get to be friends again. And we don't just have to read about each other in the headlines.
Starting point is 00:42:19 And that's oftentimes how we keep up with our friends is there's so many of us and there's so many things going on that it's hard to stay focused. This wedding was not only a beautiful ceremony to celebrate Gary and Teresa and, goodness, gracious congratulations to the two of them like it was awesome and they're married now and this show worked and we have our first successful couple coming from the golden bachelor or bachelorette um but we do have to talk about headlines that's going to happen in a separate episode uh so let's take a break here so until we talked about so until we get into headlines i've been ben i've been ashley see yeah follow the ben and ashley i almost
