This is an I-Heart podcast.
Let's start with a quick puzzle.
The answer is Ken Jennings' appearance on The Puzzler with A.J. Jacobs.
The question is, what is the most entertaining listening experience in podcast land?

It's another week of the Golden Bachelorette.
This week, we are here to break it down
with Ashley, Ashley.
Big week for the Golden Bachelor.
We get some emotion.
We get some honesty.
We get some transparency.
We get what I would call Jones' real big first hurdle of the journey so far.
Mm-hmm.
And we get some new love interests kind of sparking.
Thoughts take it away from the first part of this episode.
The first part.
Of course, they do their thing, their new preview of the big moment of the episode.
And that is Jones saying that she's not 100% ready for love in her life because John,
she's basically not over it is never going to be over and this was also a big tease in the
scene from the season it actually ended up being luckily not as big of a deal i think as they made
it seem like it could be in those in that big teaser so because she like gets kind of like
gets over it uh in this episode you know she moves on and i think this is going to be the only
time we this is going to be like the last time we hear her worry about this it's very early on
in the season if this was happening when there was two people left that's what they made it
seem like initially but this is definitely just i think one of those things that's true to her
that we need to understand about her that we can a lot of people can relate with about her
but this is not going to be something that stops her journey from continuing.
I think we know that for a fact.
Yeah.
Now, do we talk about the rest of the conversation that she had with the men there?
Or do we get there when we get there?
We'll get there when we get there.
Let's kick it off with this really fun scene where we see the guys interacting in the house.
I think this is right now one of the best parts of the Golden Show is seeing the men
and how they interact with each other.
They're supportive, they care for each other.
I don't know if they like it.
I don't know if they love doing Pascal's like laundry and cooking for him,
but they're doing it.
And I think that is such a really fun thing to watch.
Charles says it best.
It's summer, or I think Chalk actually said it.
It's summer camp.
This looks like summer camp.
And it's, I think it probably has a very unique vibe compared to even the Bachelorette.
Yeah.
Yeah. The guys are complaining about the lack of sleep that they have. And I've noticed that a lot of these dates are ending when it's still light outside. So I'm wondering if they are catering the timeline of the day to the older crowd. Because you and I were used to having dates that would absolutely go to 1 or 2 a.m. And Rose ceremonies that would go that late. But two of these dates ended during daylight.
they've had to cater this for these guys
I think it would make a lot of sense for them too
do they really want guys not
like being at their best
being grumpy
being tired not having any energy
and quite honestly the dates so far
have been fairly high intensity
I mean especially this first group date
during this season
there's like a lot of energy
that's got to put out in this
I appreciate the show
for recognizing
who they have and saying yeah you know what like let's take it easy on these guys i know i think
they're also taking it easy on joan i even thought that maybe one of these group dates
the group date was cut short because she was upset about her mom being at home and sick
i feel i feel really bad for her for having that way on her um during this episode but luckily
she ends up feeling her mom is back home feeling better so by the end of the episode okay but um
Yeah, let's talk about Pascal for a second because he's so funny in the opening segment when he's talking about, you know, not being used to doing any sort of chores around the house.
Really like taking care of himself to a certain degree.
And I'm thinking that he's just going to be this fun character, right?
And he's never going to be taken seriously by Joan.
And then I'm surprised to see that he has the first one-on-one of the week.
And I'm thinking, oh, okay.
So this is going to be, I think, the first golden episode in which somebody is eliminated on the date.
I just did not foresee them clicking.
And they did.
They had a great time.
I don't think that he's going to get super duper far, but enough to get through for this week and for her to just enjoy his company.
I was actually very, I was with you.
I don't know if I ever thought, oh, I just never go into a one-on-one thinking this guy's getting sent home or this girl's being sent him.
where this girl's means.
Really? I do all the time
and that I'm a wrong
at least 75% of the time.
My reasoning is I just don't think
it happens that much.
It doesn't. It's very rare
for it to happen. So I just never expect it
and if it does happen,
it typically feels like a very monumental moment.
And in a sense,
I don't want to,
it feels like coming like
when I was on the show,
if I was going to have a one-on-one
with somebody that had even the potential
to go home, especially early on,
it would be a waste of a one-on-one.
So I don't see that happening because wasting those one-on-ones,
especially on the Golden Show that's expedited already,
would feel very impactful and also just, like I said, a waste of time.
That's very interesting that you say that.
That's a strategy that, yeah, the lead should take into consideration.
Don't waste a one-on-one.
So this early, I just didn't think it.
But I was surprised to see him be the one to go.
I did not know what their connection would look like.
He's fun.
He's really fun.
He has a lot of energy.
The dude still's pretty ripped for being however old he is.
69 or something.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
He's one of the older guys.
Yeah.
And so they're on the date and it's like they go to the ultimate place for him, Vegas.
And it was very adorable.
You could tell he was like, thank you, Joan.
Thank you for picking me for this date.
Yeah.
The only part that I thought was a little weird.
I don't know.
Maybe it's just me.
Wayne Newton looking.
No, I love Wade Newton.
I love how he comes back.
Okay, he's been on many episodes before, right?
Yeah, he's been on many episodes.
His face is just timeless.
Was a little wild that they went to the Paris Hotel when Pascal's from France.
Like, it's like going, I guess to me it felt like a little bit.
He has to be looking at everything being like, this is hilarious.
that you're remaking this.
Definitely tongue and cheek.
But do you think that they really revolve the date planning around him?
Because normally the dates are really planned in advance.
They would have just been lucky to have their set have been agreed upon as being
the Paris Hotel and then end up casting a guy from Paris and then her liking him
enough to invite him to it?
Typically how, I mean, it worked back then.
I don't know if it still does today.
When you get started on the week, let's say the week starts on a Monday, just to keep it easy.
On Sunday evening, you'd meet with the producers, and you'd say, okay, what dates are this week?
And they'd be like, it's kickball.
And it's a trip to Vegas and going to the Paris Hotel.
And then maybe they wouldn't tell you everything, like the Wayne Newton thing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a surprise to Joan.
But they'd be like, you're going to go and you're going to get dressed up and you're going to have a really fancy dinner.
And they would tell you that at the beginning of the week, like, who do you want to bring on the one-on-one?
because it's, you know, obviously whoever doesn't go on the one one's going on a group day.
And you'd be like, she probably heard this and said Pascal will be perfect for this date to Vegas.
Yeah.
Like, I want to bring him.
And the Paris Hotel would have just been a coincidence.
Kind of.
She would have known that's where they were going.
So she probably said, this is too funny not to bring him.
Yeah, this would be funny.
And maybe she's like, I want to know if this is anything like Paris because maybe she's never been to Paris.
I don't know.
That's how it used to work.
you would just try to pick people
that you thought would enjoy the date
would find it fun
maybe that you knew a little bit about them
so that you could match a date
with what they cared about
or just somebody you haven't been on a date with
would also be another choice
but right now she has a lot of people
that she could choose.
She chose Pascal.
I thought it was great.
Their connection is deeper than I expected.
I mean, I think especially when we get to the evening portion
I do think there is a connection
there. I do think he brings out a really lively side to her. And you know what? He, just like all these
people, he has a story to tell. And Joan, at this point, as a lead, you start to get really tired because
you're not emotionally, I think, trained to hear all of these stories back to back to back and
carry the weight of them. Like you want to care. You're basically a therapist. Yeah. And she's doing a
tremendous job at it. She's asking questions. You can tell she's engaged. As Charles says,
she's a great listener. She's really good at this role. And I think that's a really fun thing
to see her do. She made a comment to Gary, skipping forward a little bit, but she made a comment
to Gary. Gary, which Gary, because we had Bachelor Gary as well. Bachelor Gary, the former
Golden. She makes a comment to him that I thought was so untrue. She said, I'm not, I'm not good at giving
them responses back like you were i think she said something like filling up that extra space
afterwards like giving them what you know something to and i'm like that's so wrong jonah's doing
exactly that she might not even mean to but she's doing it just by being herself she must have thought
that she could elaborate and she was holding back and she was just giving them bits and not the whole
thing yeah well you know you just said that like you're feeling connection and stuff i have to admit
i'm not sure that i'm feeling romantic connection i am feeling connection like human being to human
I'm feeling that she appreciates these guys
but I don't feel like she's like
I want to jump one of these guys' bones
it may be just the way
your body language is as you get older
or just like how your demeanor is
as you get older
but I haven't picked up
on like a ton of romantic
attraction from her to the guys
I think it will come
I think the same thing would be said
about Gary's season for a lot of it
yeah
I think it's you know
at the initial
part of this. There's a lot happening. There's a lot of relationships to navigate. She doesn't know all these guys great, honestly yet. And I think as we get further along, and there is less people and there is more private time, then we'll see Joan and the guys maybe connect more physically. But even with Gary's season, it wasn't really until, in my memory, the fantasy suites were like, oh, they're getting it on. Like, we saw them in bed together. And they're making, you.
you know, innuendos about their time together.
Uh, I just think it's, I think it's a, it feels appropriate.
I think it would, it's maybe feels a little bit, uh, inappropriate to make those
physical connections too early on. Yeah.
That kind of goes back to what I was, yeah, it kind of goes back to what I was saying
last week about the kisses. I'm like, the kisses are like friendly. They don't feel like they're
hot. Just wait. Okay.
So anyway, we like the pasquile date.
He ends up Pascal.
He ends up getting the rose.
And he shares a story about how he came from nothing.
And now he lives life up.
He got the Cinderella date.
And he basically lives life like, and he basically kind of has a sort of Cinderella-like story.
His dad actually with a shoe.
Oh, my gosh.
Look at all these references.
His dad with a shoe before he moved to America fixed.
fixed as a shoe with a piece of cardboard.
And he was like, when you make enough money to buy your pair, you have this, live with this cardboard
shoe until you have enough money to buy your own.
I can't imagine all the things that he learned in that season of life.
His grit, his determination, his ability to ask for help, his ability to connect with
others it's really incredible to hear his story and then see where he's at today he's on national
television flying uh however they flew to Vegas um it was private was it private yeah it was private
good for them i never got a private jet i would love the private jet he said that he came to
america without speaking any english i wanted to know more about pascal for sure because i wanted to
know like how that evolution in america happened for him to be successful
businessman and I wanted to know about his previous relationship. I think he was married. He has a
son. So there's other things to uncover there. But I do like the fact that we've been getting
dates where it's like, no, I want more. I want more. But like not in a bad way. Like we're not
getting enough. But like their stories are so good that we want to hear, we want to learn more about
them. It's not a good feeling. Isn't that just such a good part of this show? Well, as they're on the
date, we get a flashback to Los Angeles where some of the guys have taken it into their hands to try to
help the men sleep better. That's a big storyline at the beginning of this episode is the men
aren't sleeping. A lot of that is because of the snoring, the shifting, the noises at night,
people getting up and moving around. I'm guessing if they're like most men and women in their 60s
that I know that somebody's waking up at 4 a.m. ready to go with the day and then they're sitting
there on the couch, probably wondering what in the world to do with themselves the next three hours
until the television crew shows up. There's just a lot of changes.
in their life right now.
Changes they haven't had experience in the last, you know, 50 years.
This is a big change to them.
So some of the men do go to the store to buy snuggies and blankets and eye masks and
earplugs.
All these things are just funny.
I think it's a good bit.
But I also find it to be very helpful, probably.
Ear plugs are the most helpful.
I could not have gotten any good sleep in the best.
Bachelor Mansion or a paradise or anything like that without earplugs and an eye mask.
Always had them.
Yeah. It's a smart thing to do. I remember sleeping with earplugs and I never sleep with
earplugs. I think it would be very, very important. We also see at this time a really sweet
scene with somebody that I've picked as one of my top guys from the beginning. And I want to
continue to remind you of this. The Charles and Guy scene. Yeah. Guy has always been up there
for me. You have doubted this and I'm going to still stick by it. You see this episode.
there's a couple things I want to point out to you about Guy.
He got an early rose that I think will stand out later on in the season.
But the Charles and Guy scene is a really special scene because Charles and Guy are sitting
on the couch. Guy is obviously an ER doctor speaking with Charles about how his wife has passed
away. Charles explains the story and we've loved Charles. Charles is a main character. He will be
a main character for the rest of the season until he is either let go or he is with Joan at the
He is a sweet man.
He is loving these moments so much.
But he sees an opportunity to ask a doctor about his wife and this question that he's been
holding on to, this question of what else could I have done in the moment of my wife's
brain aneurysm?
And he says, why was their blood coming out of her mouth?
And for me, these are the special moments of the show.
I don't know what Charles's surroundings are like when he goes back home.
I don't know his friendships back home.
I don't know what his family dynamics necessarily.
I don't know if he's ever felt comfortable enough to take the time to ask somebody
that would be in the know, why was my wife's mouth bleeding when she fell?
He obviously hadn't ever.
So he asked Guy and Guy tells him, and truth and honesty, hey, I bet she bit her tongue
when she fell.
That's probably not something that Charles wanted to hear.
But what it did do was Guy followed that up with, like, you need to stop asking yourself
what you could have done.
And I think for, hopefully for Charles, that was a pivotal moment.
moment. So many of us that come off this show have those moments that are pivotal to us. They stand out to us as they change the course or direction of our lives from that point forward. We come into it with all this stuff. These guys definitely come into it with a lot of stuff and a lot of years of stuff. And this show, because it slows us down, because it takes away distraction, because it takes away all the things that we're used to in our daily lives. Every once in a while, there's a moment that says, no, things will never be the same. And I think this might be one of those moments for Charles.
basically admits to that he's like i will not i will be leaving here basically feeling a little bit more
closure a little bit better about life um maybe being able to move on a little bit more it was really
really special i have like nothing else to say other than like i'm just really happy for him for
for feeling better in any way he's just the cutest little man he's so cute he's a great guy
and he's doing so well so far this season.
So that is example number one of guy standing up to support somebody else, okay?
Okay, sure.
I mean, certainly it was Charles shining through all this.
If there's a standout, if we're arguing this,
Charles is the one who's the main character here, but okay.
I'm not saying who stood out more at all.
But he had a heroic moment in helping.
Sure.
And I just want to give you that example.
And then I'll give you example number two later on in this episode.
Okay.
Have you ever wished for a change but weren't sure how to make it?

Attention passengers, the pilot is having an emergency and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane.
Think you could do it?
It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control.
And they're saying like, okay, pull this, do this, pull that, turn this.
It's just, I can do it my eyes close.

The group date comes up next.
The guys are going to be playing kickball.
They think they're going to be playing flag football because Eric Dickerson and
Andre Reed show up to the football field to give these guys a little pep doc, to teach these guys a lesson.
I'm thinking in my mind, please don't make them play flag football.
There's so many cutting.
There's so much sprinting.
There's so much opportunity for pain.
I am worried at this point
that these men are going to be stepping
onto a football field against each other
Well, they don't
They play a kickball game
Charles has never played a kickball game
Which adds to him being just the most endearing
And it's
Sponsored by Quakerotes
And the imagery is everywhere
I want to know how much they paid them for this episode
I think it's hilarious
I think it is the perfect
The integration partnership, yeah
Yeah, because they're talking about it being, well, it was protein, right?
But when you think about oatmeal, oftentimes you think about fiber.
And when you think about fiber, you often think about older people.
But we should all be having lots of fiber.
Anyway.
I love Keese, like, little commercial, because I know they had him do this.
So they're like, hey, can you say this line first?
He's like, oh, wake up in the morning with Quaker Oaks.
Yum.
And I'm just like, that's, like, this is hilarious.
Like, I cannot believe they're making these dudes do this.
but I love it and it's a great integration.
It is. It's great.
It's so funny and obvious that it's, that we're like, yes, go for it.
Keep being creative like this.
All right.
They are, of course, going to play a game and whoever wins is going to have the extra time with Joan at the end.
It is the not mark team that wins.
It's the blue team that wins.
The blue team, the not mark team.
Because Mark didn't have any moments in this episode.
It was shocking.
I didn't even notice that.
You didn't?
Stop.
Okay, so they have a mini cocktail party with the blue team.
Notable moments, of course, is that Charles talks to Joan about his wife's passing
and how Guy was able to give him that closure.
And then Gil, Gil is here.
And Gil talks to her.
about how he adopted a daughter.
And she's only about to be 17.
So, like, yeah, he's, like, still in the midst of really raising her and she's at home.
And we know that Gil is the guy that had a restraining order put on him
between the time of the background check and casting weekend to the show starting to film.
And they said that they were going to cut down on his scenes.
I wonder how much of a role he really did play if this is cutting down the scenes.
he gets the group day rose he does which means he's around for one more week uh i i don't know have
we had any follow-up information from that really it was just that a woman was complaining
filed the restraint because he just wouldn't stop calling texting and like basically showing up
at her house gill is definitely at this point a main character he is on the show he's getting
first impression roses he's reading date cards he he's definitely around uh
And I don't know.
I mean, I guess from the show's perspective, how do you cut out somebody reading a date card?
And then also, how do you cut out somebody getting a group day rose?
You can't do that.
You definitely can't do that.
You have to show those and you have to show why.
And so maybe they've cut out as much as they can at this point.
I think they cut out some of their conversation because I felt like her conversation with Charles and Gary was more qualifying for a group day rose.
I think there was more substance that she had with the Gill conversation.
Gary was so sweet during this group date,
this group date cocktail party because he asked Joan for her mom's name
after she opened up to him about the fact that she wasn't feeling well at home.
And then he said that he was going to pray for her.
And they talked about,
they bonded over the power of prayer.
And then Gary shows up later in the week with a written framed,
prayer for her mom
it was so sweet
I was like
this is this this is so special
just because we have no clue
how this ends
there's so many guys
from this season
that will have no problem
finding a partner
if they want one
after this thing's done
Gary being one of those
yeah
I think Jonathan being one those
right Jonathan's emotional
we'll talk about that
but Charles goodness
like there's so many
guys here that I'm like there's all these people watching going you need to date my mom like you
need to date my mom please date my mom and Gary consistently now has been every week like I want to
know more about him I want him to have a one-on-one because there is a um an aura uh some there's his energy
I don't use that term very often I know what that fully means but like his his presence
is one that just makes you go, this is a guy I need to be around personally, and that I want
anybody else to be around. He just has that factor. He cares. He's a good person to talk to.
Yeah, he's so sweet. You did mention that, you know, Joan does get the phone call, that her mom
is sick, that Joan is very distraught about this. She's anxious about it. It's on her mind.
That is a very hard thing to do when you're on this show, because you're
leaving it up to a producer to keep in contact. And I'm guessing at this point, I think Joan even
says it. Joan is her mom's main caregiver. And so as a result, the main caregiver is gone. Who's
answering the questions on Joan's behalf? I love Joan's passion for her family. It's obvious, right?
I mean, at this point, if her mom was to say, Joan, you need to come home, I think Joan drops everything
and comes home without a question. I don't even think it's an issue with her. I was just hoping
that like two seasons
in a row for Joan
Joan wouldn't have to leave early
I mean it would be hard
she's our bachelorette
like it'd be hard for her to leave
the show would obviously pause
for her to leave
but I was just going
can Joan catch a break here
I know exactly
go through this thing
without something else
under her mind
I know so it was so relieving to hear
later in the week
that she was okay
definitely
or she was improving
this brings up the big moment
at the mansion
so as this group date is winding
to a close. As you mentioned, Gil does get the rose. We get to see then, um, kind of the
after effects of the kickball game. Luckily, nobody got seriously hurt. I thought it was awesome to
watch. I thought these guys did a great job. Uh, we see massages going on. Uh, we also see this moment,
which brings me to my moment with Guy where Captain Kim is writing a song for Joan. Oh,
this is the other moment. Ben, you're right. Guy really pulled through.
in this episode
he has been pulling through
you just haven't noticed it he's so under the radar
with his little moments
but Captain Kim
obviously cares a lot about music he's saying at the beginning
he's writing a song for Joan now
I was with the guys
when I saw Captain Kim doing this
and then almost pushing it on the guys to do with him
like hey this is my idea we're going to do that
there's no question of do you guys want to do this
would this be a good idea for you who's in who's out
it was, we're going to do this.
This is going to be great.
Everybody come to the living room.
Everybody do this song.
Eyes with the guys.
And I was like, I wouldn't want to do that.
Like, this doesn't feel like me.
It reminds me of when the guys were singing that song to Jojo during her season.
And it was the corniest thing of all time.
And then Chad was like, I'm not singing about the girl that I just met.
Yeah.
Well, and like, I don't have any game.
but singing to a girl would definitely be like lowering my game like it's just like
for any game I do have singing is not something that I impresses anybody nor do I feel comfortable
doing it dancing on the other hand Penn's dancing will win you over sexually yeah yeah you can
get any you just ask Jess when I come in and see my hips she goes let's go um and so it is
it was it was an awkward thing to request I get where the guys did
it. I do think Gary did a tremendous job again of, because they could have just said,
Kim, we're not doing this. Like, this is stupid. Like, we don't feel comfortable doing this.
I, you noticed Gary's maturity, also his wisdom and his ability to negotiate in this moment where
he tells Captain Kim, hey, this is a song you wrote for her. This isn't a song I wrote for her.
You should be the one singing as to her, mostly in a nice way telling Captain Kim,
hey, dude, not in for this. This isn't my thing.
But one guy does stand out and do it with Captain Kim.
One guy out of all of them.
One guy falls in the sword for everybody else.
And for this person who's obviously cared a lot about this song, it's guy.
Yeah, it was very sweet.
Very sweet.
I don't know how, we don't know how it went down that he decided to do it with him, but he did it.
And it was super kind because the way that Kim,
wrote that song, he couldn't exactly deliver it without another man next to him.
No.

so second moment where guy does something for somebody else and i just think this dude's around
a while i see it happening ashley i'm sticking with it well uh let's transition into the final
one-on-one of the episode because we kind of jumped ahead there with the singing um we see the group
dates get obviously told and we obviously at that point know that jonathan's going to get the one-on-one
we see a motion out of Jonathan leading up to this one-on-one.
Ashley, what were your thoughts on it?
Okay, yeah, so Jonathan is really nervous because he said that he was,
because he knows that a one-on-one date is going to put a lot of pressure on him
that he's going to have to open up, reveal himself,
and he was kind of hoping for the group date so he can kind of like hold back a little bit.
And I totally related to this.
The first few weeks of the bachelor season,
I didn't really want to have a one-on-one either.
because I just was like, oh, spotlight on me, me having to be vulnerable.
I'm so not ready for this.
Let me at least warm up to this guy.
And really, I almost felt that sense every single week because like not only is it
your first real first date with somebody, it's a very long date.
It's like a nine hour first date.
It's also on camera.
So it is very, there's more pressure on that date than really any other date you've probably
ever been on so i totally understand why he's so nervous they go horseback riding and joan basically
is talking about how she feels like she's not being vulnerable enough with jonathan with the men
in the background of this date she never addresses it to him she says that she feels like she's
always been the caretaker she's always had to like you know have the strong front and now she's
going to have to, you know, at some point she's going to have to let go on this. But she's noticing
things around her. She's noticing these hawks are flying around on her date. And the hawk is what
her family thought was like kind of the symbol for her husband because her kids were seeing
hawks around them when, um, right after he passed. So I'm thinking like, there was a turn of
events when she said like we're seeing hawks and I'm thinking about my husband.
I thought she was going to say
this isn't him bringing Jonathan to me
I thought it was going to be like this touching
spiritual thing
but actually it was
she interpreted it differently
she interpreted it like it's time for me
to like kind of let go and be vulnerable
it's a big moment for Joan
and I think it's a big moment for the rest of the season
she I think at this point in time
had a lot of questions about what
her role was here and how she was going to do it well and maybe as you mentioned the beginning
you're early on in this process she might be asking herself are any of these guys really for me
like none of these guys are making me feel anything close yet to what my late husband made me
feel i was expecting her to feel that though with jonathan and she didn't say anything like
of the sort she didn't she didn't and this date i do think maybe came about maybe a little early for
Jonathan. I think Jonathan, he felt like he was enjoying his time. He was crushing it at the house. He's
really doing well with Joan. As you mentioned, this is a big moment. You got a one-on-one. It's not
make-or-break, but it is definitely a make-or-go-home. And Jonathan says something that I'm worried
I'm going to leave here alone again, because once I leave here, I'm going to be a loan. This is a very
vulnerable moment for Jonathan.
I think we're getting a glimpse into this really
handsome, really confident,
fun guy and we're seeing
what his insecurity is, which is
this loneliness thing he has going on.
Again, I will say this.
If Jonathan were to go home from this one-on-one,
which he didn't, he would have no problem
looking into his DMs and seeing a bunch of people
say, you should date my mom.
He might have no problem becoming the next
golden bachelor. I still think that that's
reserved for Mark but holy moly is Jonathan a close second there now listen um Jonathan is not
just worried about what you said he's also about you know being alone after all this he's worried
about being surprised by the dumping because he was surprised by his wife just turning to him
one morning completely out of the blue and saying I want a divorce good point so um okay then Gary well
we already talked about how she said
down with the guys before the cocktail party and says like, you know, I need to like really just be
myself and let down this curtain with you guys. Gary comes here to give her a little pep talk
about all that. I think it really was helpful. Sometimes I feel like these cameos from past
contestants, you know, sometimes they're trivial. But this one, I actually felt like she really
needed it and it was cathartic. I think it's a good moment for Joan. And it's also a good
reminder of where she came from and that if gary can do it she can do it too and i think it was a
great moment for her to move forward uh it takes us to the very end of the episode where we have a few
guys going home um Greg k k and kim are sent home any kind of surprises there no i thought
kim was going to get sent home song or not just didn't vibe that and the biggest shocker
towards the end of the episode for me is just, as always, scenes from the next episode
because it really looks like Chalk is going home.
And Ben, we talked about Chalk and what a frontrunner we thought he was last week.
And damn, I really, I left this episode thinking that he might be definitely, like,
yeah, that he might be top three.
And then he leaves.
And it's kind of almost reminiscent of Joan leaving on Gary's season.
because I think Joan could have gone basically that far as well.
Yeah.
Do you think it happens next episode, though?
Yeah, they make it seem like it's next episode.
And I don't think he would leave on his own unless it is also a family matter.
So we'll see.
There's one part of the Gary Bachelor combo that I do want to mention that I thought was significant.
He said, she said together, that they're not looking for partners that they had.
They're not looking for replacements.
They're looking for like almost a totally different person
because they're in such different places of their life now at this age
because they're not going to be raising kids with them.
You know,
they're not going to be going through their career with them.
Yeah.
You can't find a replacement for the person of your past.
But you can find something new.
And that's what we hope for Joan as she continues on with her journey.
All right.
To close out here, Ashley,
I need your top three after this week.
well can I put chalk in it
yeah you can put whoever you want who's still there
well I guess I wouldn't be very good
at predicting things
if I said chalk would be in the top three
since they're basically telling us he's not going to be there
okay I'm going to still say John
Mark and
Keith
okay I'm going
Mark Jonathan
yeah I said John yeah I meant Jonathan
by the way.
I said John.
Mark, Jonathan, and Guy.
Guy's going to stick into it for me.
He's writing this to the end.
If I was a betting man,
which sometimes I am in Vegas,
I would put money on Guy.
The odds have to be fantastic.
Hey, until next week,
