This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Why are we all so obsessed with romance?
On the Radio 831 podcast, join us, Sanjana Basker and Tyler McCall, as we unpack all the
trending tropes, fuzzy adaptations, book talk drama, and celebrity love stories with hot takes
and sharp guests.
Each episode digs into what these stories reveal about desire, fantasy, identity, and how we
love now.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be?
I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to futas to scheduling sex.
Wait, what sex?
Is it just me or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes?
They say we can't polish a turn, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter.
Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Gianna Maria Riva on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.
And now the Pod Meets Twirled podcast.
We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of the...
survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
Again, we are experts.

This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcasts with IHartRadio.
Hey guys, it's the Almost Famous Podcast.
It's producer Heather.
And I'm pretty excited because last week I got to do a Q&A with Ashley.
So today I get to do one with Ben and get to know Ben on a different level because that's what I was saying all about it with Ashley last week.
I was like, man, this has been so fun.
Now I need to do one with Ben.
So we put it up on our socials for you guys to ask some questions.
And we're going to dive into this.
So first one is from J. Gomez-O-7.
I like that handle.
They said, when will we see him back on our TV screens?
That's a great question.
I don't know.
One, I'd have to be asked.
Wait, Ben, I think you have something.
The I do show.
Yes, tell them about it.
So I am getting ready here.
Goodness, in like two weeks to leave to film a show I'm hosting that is called I
do.
And it's a wedding show.
I'm very excited for it.
It's destination weddings.
And so either Val Renewals or couples getting married in a destination, it's kind of their dream wedding where you're looking for couples who maybe wouldn't have this opportunity or are looking to get married kind of in a tight timeline.
We're going to follow their journey on planning this destination wedding, on their families joining them on what it takes, what it looks like in some of the most incredible places around the year.
US. So within this hemisphere. So we're getting ready to pack up and travel. I will be hosting that.
I do feel like that's a great fit for me. I do too. A question, is casting still open for this project?
Do you know? Yeah, it is. The first few locations have been filled. But if it goes well, we'll kind of just
keep this going throughout the year and do new locations and other locations. Well, let's put some stuff up on our
social. So if people are listening and this is for them. That'd be awesome. Yeah, let's do it.
We actually, tomorrow, I have my first call with the couples that are getting married. So I'm
going to Zoom with them and just meet them so that the weirdness of, hey, I'm hosting this show
and showing up to your wedding and you don't know me is gone. I'm hoping we build a little bit
of relationship beforehand. So yeah, let's post some stuff on our socials. I think that's cute.
I think it's cute.
You being on another, like, iteration of a love show to me does feel very apropos in a lot of ways.
Yeah.
You know, for me to be on TV, when it has to be right.
I'm not leaving my family for any, just any opportunity.
You know, there's some reality shows out there that I would definitely consider and probably
say yes to if I was asked just because of the commitment, the benefits of them, the kind of
the quality of them, I think. But for the most part, so much of my life is now spent
promoting other things outside of my own television career, which is great. I'd be so happy
about that, too. I love it. So I can't wait to see that. Next question is from Alexia.
They say, what book are you currently reading or the last book you read? Oh, goodness. That's a great
question, Alexia. Thank you for asking. I'm reading.
a lot right now. I'm listening and reading. So let me be clear. Because I walk my dog so much
and I usually strap my daughter onto the front of me to give Jess a little break. I'm listening
and then I also read. So not to be too weird here for anybody, I am committing this year to
read the Bible. And so that is one book that I am reading. It's been a bit since I've said,
okay, I'm going to actually sit down, plug through the chapters, investigate.
I just finished the Lonesome Dove series.
That was one of my favorite series I've ever dove into.
Wait, what's that about?
Who's it by?
It's an old Western series.
It talks about kind of follows two friends who navigate life together through the West,
their interactions with each other, with Native Americans,
with new communities and new towns,
with the bars.
It's great.
It's old.
It's kind of what inspired Taylor Sheridan to do all of his work.
So I dove into those.
I finished all of those lonesome dove
all the way to Streets of Laredo,
Comanche Moon.
I'm forgetting the fourth.
Now I'm doing Legends of the Fall,
mostly a classic because I feel like
not really like old old classic but by Jim Harrison because everybody talks about it.
But my favorite book as of recent that I read, never listened to read straight through.
It was called Theo of Golden.
I was going to say you told me about that when we were in Carmel and it's on my list.
And I saw it at a bookstore and I had to put it down because I was like, you have too many
on your TBR list, but you will get to it because Ben suggested it.
So I do want to read that.
I want to be clear, and I've kind of been upset about this, but I'm very happy for the author.
This is the author's only book that he's ever written. It's now one of, it's obviously a New York Times bestseller.
I think it's second or third on the modern sales chart and has been for months now.
I told people to read this like two years ago, like a year and a half ago.
I was, this is like one of the only things in my life, Heather, that I've been in front of and like trendy on.
So I take a lot of prives telling my wife the last week because she just finished it.
She didn't even listen to me when I told her to read it.
It took it like blowing up for her to read it.
I said, I want you to be no.
Like I know I'm not like the hippest dude in the world.
But I knew about this before anybody else.
And I want you to remember that when this, when everybody starts talking about and she said, you know, said, okay.
That's kind of how I felt about I read Hamnet two years ago.
Oh, yeah.
And then now it's a movie and everybody's talking about the movie.
and I guess it like really did well.
I attempted to watch the movie a couple weeks ago
and I had to turn it off halfway through.
I was like a little too much screaming
not to experience the screaming when you read the book.
Yeah.
But good book, sad story,
if anybody cares about that recommendation.
Okay, the next one is from Maria loves I Can Dream Center.
Maria, you send us so many great questions.
Thank you for that.
She says,
what do you love about Jess being a mom?
I mean goodness. You could get me going, going, going. I think to simplify it and not to say everything, because it's all wonderful and beautiful. I have seen my wife become so unselfish with her body, her time, her focus, and do it with such joy.
So it's cool for, I think what I mean by this, it's really fun for me to be inspired by Jessica
and see this joy that comes from caring for Winnie, playing with Winnie, loving on Winnie, and see it in person.
I think that's what, it inspires me to be a better dad.
And it inspires me, well, it encourages me that that kind of love.
love exists in the world. Like I know she loves me. She said, hey, let's do this thing for the rest of
our life together. That's cool. And I'm so grateful for it. But there is a like a sacredness and a
spiritualness to the love that a mom gives a child that words have a hard time encompassing.
But when you witness it daily moment by moment, it changes the perspective of life. And so yeah,
that's been really fun, I think.
And we just have a lot of fun together now with Winnie.
There's so much laughter and laying on the floor and playing with the stupidest little toys
and throwing balls at each other.
That's just been a lot of fun for me is it's taken, I don't know what I did before,
but it's taken away a lot of the sit on my phone or sit and watch TV or kind of that kind
thing because the joy comes from those moments where it's like, I don't want to miss this.
Yeah.
So as a mom, it's been fun to see us all kind of come together too.
I think that's great.
And I'm not a parent, but all I ever hear from parents is that it goes by so fast.
So it's good to know that you're just sitting and enjoying and embracing it.
Yeah.

Kristen asks,
Ben, do you plan to get any more tattoos in the future?
I don't plan on it, but I'm not.
against it. You know, my first tattoo, obviously, is a wild story where I was in college and
felt like it was something I wanted to do and I did it. And I never regretted it. It's great.
It's a Bible verse. Commit to the Lord, whatever you do and your plans will succeed.
I also got my ring tattooed on my finger. That was more medical because I was so scared to wear a ring.
And I wanted people to know I was married that I was like, I don't want my, you know, to have a ring on someone
it tattooed on.
Do you have a metal ring or do you have a rubber ring?
I have a metal ring that was given to me at the wedding that I wear like on date nights.
Okay.
And sometimes forget to even wear it on date nights.
Yeah.
Just loves when I wear it.
In fact, we have a date night tomorrow night and I need to remember to wear this.
She would love that.
That would be good for me.
But the tattoo on my side's big.
I don't know if you remember the story, Heather, but I got it done in college and had
it like drawn out and I brought it into the guy and I had it numbered on kind of how I wanted
the verse broken up like commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans to succeed. Proverbs 163
and I had it spaced out and I had the line number one, two, three, four on the side.
And then when I got home, it kind of wraps around my side here.
I have one that wraps around my side too.
Yeah.
And my buddy, my roommate said, let me see it.
And so I showed him, he goes, hey, there's no Proverbs 1634.
And I was like, what do you mean?
there's a proverb 1634 and he goes your tattoo says proverb 1634 and i freaked out and it did it said
proverb 1634 the guy had used that i don't know why he thought oh the line four he included it oh no
so now there's like this massive orthodox cross covering this four on my side it's it doesn't really
fit so yeah that's good oh no oh oh oh oh oh
So wait, did he do, he had to have done the temporary purple ink, like stamp on you that you checked in the mirror?
Because they don't ever freehand anything.
I don't remember.
I mean, I've never been to somebody that freehanded.
That's kind of crazy.
Yeah.
I don't remember necessarily kind of how it played out.
I know I did not know that it was 34 until I got home and showed my roommate.
Oh, crazy.
that's crazy.
If you were to get another one,
do you have an idea
of what it would be
or what it would reference?
Yeah, it would definitely be
Jessica and I've talked about
getting like a honey pot
for Winnie.
Does Jess have any tattoos?
Yeah.
She loves this,
she has this lady in town here
that does like the thin tattoos.
You know,
I'm talking about like very dainty,
very beautiful.
I wish I knew about it.
about those when I was getting them because that probably would have been a better choice for me
and some of them that I've gotten. Yeah. Yeah. So she has a couple. She has like an ode to her
grandfather. She had his hat, like tattooed on her wrist. She has her brothers and her got a matching
like tattoo together. She has some fun ones that she just gets, but they're all very dainty.
And you really wouldn't tell they're kind of all around her wrist areas. They're not, there's really
nowhere else.
Cool.
Well, interesting.
Jamie asks, after your season and the engagement was called off,
did any of the women from your season try to shoot their shot with you again?
No.
I think they said, hey, we got lucky when we weren't chosen.
Stop, Ben.
I actually am flabbergasted that you said no, because I feel like that is so common with
the dating shows, especially two in The Bachelor.
universe we see people not just in paradise but we see people get together with other people
you know after their time on the show you know look at pilot pete that's good point yeah he's had
he dated his whole season exactly yeah yeah that is actually impressive i haven't thought about that
but he has like dated a lot of the girls that were on his season at some point because i mean
he ended up with mattie right yes and then and then hannah
something was happening there and then back and forth with Kelly a handful of times.
Yeah, good for him. See, that's, that's a guy that the girls said, hey, I still want a shot with.
No, I never, I honestly didn't really, I can't remember even hearing from any of those girls until,
honestly, I got married and Jojo and my wife kind of connected about like mom stuff,
which was very sweet.
But I don't, other than Becca, like Tilly,
I haven't even really had any contact, I don't think.
Interesting.
Interesting.
Not what I would have guessed.
But you know what?
It might have to do with, I don't know, you weren't,
you went back to like real life, right?
You weren't like, you didn't move to L.A.
You didn't go on Paradise.
You know what I mean?
Like.
They saw the house that I was living in on,
happily ever after.
And they're like, wait.
Ben.
You had a house.
I mean, that's probably a step up than most contestants, for sure.
But anyways, you're being humble.
Okay.
No, I really didn't, though.
I can't remember.
I mean, it's been a while, right?
I don't think I, I think I could confidently say I didn't even go on a date outside of Caitlin during her season.
And then my season, I don't think I've even gone.
gone on a date with anybody from the Bachelor franchise outside of my time on the shows.
And after, now it's a follow-up question for me. I did this with Ashley too. I could be wrong there.
Don't like, I'm not like saying that. No, for sure. I can't remember though, but I don't think I did.
So in between meeting the love of your life, Jess, you're dating. You weren't on dating apps.
Like, how are you meeting women?
That's a good question.
I was on dating apps.
Oh, you were?
Which one?
Well, I actually don't think I was post-show.
Leading up to the show, I was on.
Post-show.
What were you doing?
Post-show.
I met somebody.
I dated a girl in between for a few months who was fantastic.
The problem was
she was so sweet.
I have nothing but amazing things to say about it.
The problem was she and I, like, we met very,
soon after the breakup. So at first it was this like, I'm, you know, a sad puppy. Like she saw me,
she saw me cry, which was like, which was not, it's never healthy for the sustaining of a
relationship. It was very unfair to her. But we, we kind of got through that chapter, which was
great. But there was still, for many months, there was that like poll of, I'm still hurt. I miss
this. Uh, what happened kind of stuff. And so we ended it, like, I believe,
because of that.
The really the true of, hey, it's not you, it's me.
Like, I'm not good and this is not healthy
and this is not going over great.
And then very soon after that ended,
I took about three months off, didn't date at all.
And I remember being in Vegas for the IHeart Fest
with, I think it was like Dean and Wells and Nick.
And they were all telling me you've got to message girls on Instagram.
You've got to date again, Ben.
It's been three months.
You've even gone on a date.
Like, go out there and date.
Have fun.
you're single and you're not getting younger.
And that's when I messaged Jess.
And she was it.
She was,
and so it was,
I was hurting at that point,
then after those three months of taking time away,
I think Lauren and Chris had like kind of announced their deal.
It was real love, right?
Like you're like, okay, this is done, done.
We're good.
And then I was trying to figure stuff out.
I went on winter games.
That obviously didn't go great for me.
And then when I,
had my first date with Jess.
I am not kidding.
It was like, oh, I don't miss any.
Like, this is it.
This is all I want.
Yeah.
And so there wasn't like a lot of dating in between.
I, and I'm glad.
I think I could have had a lot of fun, like going out and dates and doing that.
But I'm kind of close.
I don't think you missed anything.
I don't think I didn't think so.
Okay.
Good to know.
Victoria asks, if you were to build the perfect sandwich, what's in it?
That's great. Well, thank you, Victoria, for the wild question.
It's got to be, for me, I'm really a big, like, French dip fan.
So that's kind of my perfect sandwich with horseradish, little provolone or Swiss, a good prime rib.
You dip it. Love it.
But outside of that, if I was, like, going to a deli, the base of this would be a, some type of, like, baguette,
like French bread would be great with ham, like good ham.
Not a big deli meat person in this house.
Read too many weird things on it.
So big, like good deli meat person, like fresh cut,
pepper jack cheese, djean mustard and hot sauce,
great combination with a little mayo, lettuce, pickle, onion, tomato.
That's probably my perfect sandwich.
Toasted.
Like I want the baguette at least warm.
I was going to ask if you're a toasted or unt toasted sandwich person.
A little good Panini too.
Nice.
I think one of the best sandwiches I ever had was when I went to Paris a couple of years ago.
And I just landed.
And it was super early in the morning.
I just went to a place around the corner from my hotel.
And I got, it was like turkey on a baguette with pickles and butter.
They put butter.
on the sandwiches there.
It's not like a big mayonnaise mustard place.
And I was thinking butter, turkey pickles.
I think maybe cheese was on there.
I was like, I don't know about this.
It was fantastic.
It's all fantastic.
The food I had obviously,
simple food, but also some of the best food I ever had was in Paris.
Adventure.
It's in Toronto with flights and hotel.

Nicole Millway asks,
if you could change anything
about your season,
what would you change?
Seasons, they say.
Seasons.
Yeah, not just your bachelor season.
The Bachelorette season, there wouldn't be a lot I would change.
There was great guys on it.
I made some really good friendships.
Some I'm still in contact with today.
But I really enjoyed the people that I felt like I had time to invest into, like the
Shambuse and the Tanners and the Jarrids and the Ben Zorns and Joe Bailey.
Josh Albers.
Those were just good, good dudes.
I'm missing people.
But there was a lot of good moments.
And then obviously getting to know Caitlin was so great.
My bachelor season,
I don't know if there's a lot I would change.
It's not the no regret stuff.
I did the best I could.
I would have probably tried to take like a parasite cleanse
before the season started.
So I wasn't sick the whole time.
I felt awful.
If only you knew, though,
Like you didn't know you had a fair say.
I know.
I would definitely not share.
You know, there's a level of me, I've said it publicly.
I don't even know how to make sense of it.
The double I love yous would, I would have been wiser in my communication and what I said and didn't say.
But I, it is how I, like, I think I felt.
And so I said what I was feeling, which is the only way you can make it through.
that process and figure out what it is at the end. It was leading me, obviously, to neither of them
who moved on to amazing dudes and have families, and that's great. And so maybe it was all,
it all worked out exactly how it should. But I do think it added a little bit of confusion.
And it felt, I think when I talk about it today, it felt a little bit manipulative because I
think I was doing it more for myself, wanting both of them to know, hey, I really care about you.
This isn't going to work out, like, for both of us, all of us.
But I want you to know how meaningful you are to me.
I think I was doing that more for myself than I was for them.
And I don't think at the time I was wise enough to decipher who I was actually doing it for.
I think you're being hard on yourself.
I don't think that that was manipulative.
That wouldn't be the word I would use.
I feel like...
Leading on?
No, I feel like if I remember correctly,
watching it, your face being so shocked yourself when you said it that I think you're just,
you can't negate that you're wrapped up in this bubble and you're living in a real life
rom-com where you're the star. It's like, that's got to be so jarring and crazy for anybody.
And you're just like in the moment being like, yeah, this is amazing. I just want to share
And I don't know if we've talked about your love language and if it's words of affirmation,
but if it is, I mean, I can't blame you for just like affirming how you're feeling to the people that you're spending time with, you know?
I think that was my thought, was I'm affirming how I'm feeling.
And I know one of you aren't going to be here after tomorrow.
And one of you, since you aren't, I want you to know that I cared that this wasn't fake, that this wasn't drawn out, that this wasn't anything.
less than amazing for me.
I just wish back then I would have had the wisdom to take a second and be like, okay, but
who, how is this going to impact them?
However, for the sake of, um, the experience, I do think it was good for Jojo because she
became the bachelorette and she had that.
Oh, yeah.
She met her husband.
Yeah.
So like at the end of the day, so I'm saying there isn't a lot I would change because I
did the best I could.
It wasn't going to be perfect.
It was just as good as it could get.
And the one thing I would say that I'm very proud of is that I stayed very, like, it was very real to me.
There was an intention behind getting to know the women, being thankful that they were there, giving up their time to try to make this work, knowing what they left behind probably.
And I'm glad that because I can look back today and be like, that wasn't just a wasted year of my life.
that was like a very transformative year of my life that was that felt serious even though it's
in this goofy environment.
Yeah.
Okay.
Our last question is from Sarah.
And she says, since becoming a dad, what has been the hardest or most unexpected thing
you've had to face?
When he's a dream, honestly.
I think it's the lack of one-on-one time, Jessica and I have.
with energy.
So I take care of Winnie right up until bedtime while Jessica gets ready for bed.
And I get ready for bed like before I take care of Winnie.
And so we're kind of like two ships, you know, in the night at times.
And so that's where we're implementing date nights.
I think that's been hard because there's days that go by where I'm like, hey, I haven't
got to catch up with my wife.
And I think she feels the same way.
I would also say more and more now, it's my time away. It's hard. And that even means I used to go to the gym every morning from 645 and get home about 815. Well, that's hard today because when he wakes up at 630 and then Jessica, what am I going to do? Be like, hey, hon, have fun, you know, doing all this stuff in the morning by yourself. And then we get our day started and that would mean I wouldn't get to hang out with Jess or Winnie. And so I had to- I think our list of,
also don't understand how much you travel.
Like, Ben, I work with a lot of talent, like actors and actresses.
And I think Ben probably outflies them in an average year.
Like, Ben is always on a flight and doing stuff.
And it's, they're quick.
You usually are very quick.
You're in and out when it comes to your work stuff.
But I don't think that people understand probably the length of how much you travel.
throughout a year.
And that gets harder.
Yeah.
Not because my wife makes hard.
Goodest gracious.
She's so forgiving of it.
The problem is I get really sad now, especially in a hotel room alone at night.
I get really sad.
So I have tried to make trips quicker.
I do fly a lot.
I think last year I clocked 115 flights.
Like, that's a lot of flights.
It's crazy.
I actually,
telling you, I work with a lot of people and Ben is flying a lot more than most people that I work
with. Okay. Wait, I lied. We have one more question. Okay. From Trisha, they said, would you rather
eat every meal with your feet and not use your hands? This sounds like the person asking me for
feet picks on cameo. Maybe this is them. Come on, Trisha. Eat every meal with your feet and not use
your hands or would you rather announce every time you walked into a room or a facility. Hi, Bachelor
Ben Higgins is here. Oh, feet for sure. Feet for sure. That's in public places too. Ben's feet
up holding the fork? It's a good question though. That sounds like a question I would have asked
like when I was dating to keep things interesting, a question like that. But I, I'm not ashamed by any means of
The Bachelor. I'd love to talk about it. I would talk about all aspects of it at any moment,
at any time. But when people don't know me from the show, it is the last thing I want to tell
them. It is not like a, the biggest compliment I've gotten, and I get a lot, is when I have
a business meeting or whatever, and I get home and I get an email being like, hey, you didn't
tell me you were on The Bachelor, and we were just met for two days. I'm like, well, that wasn't,
you didn't ask.
So, no, I would much rather you with my feet.
That's hilarious.
Okay, Ben, well, similar to Ashley last week,
I feel like I've gotten to know you a lot better this week through these questions.
So thanks so much.
Can I just add I've got long toes?
And so there's a part of me that says I could actually do this.
I don't want to see it personally.
I don't want to see it happen because I feel like that would be jarring.
have very long legs. I just feel like your leg being up like this and your foot grabbing a fork
would just be very difficult for anybody, but also for you because you're super tall. This has been
great, though. Everybody, please keep sending in your questions and stuff for Ben and Ashley. We will
continue to do these episodes because I find them fascinating and I think you guys do too. So thanks,
Ben. Appreciate it. Hey, happy to be here. We'll talk to you soon. Bye.
