In what seems to be, a plot ripped straight out of Breaking Bad, Drugs, alcohol, trafficking of people. There are people out there that absolutely know what happened.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Listen to paper ghosts, the Texas teen murders, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is the Ben and Ashley I, almost famous podcast with IHartRadio. Hey guys, so apparently our producers just, or you guys, just love it when I talk about Jonas. I'm just so casual with the name Jonas. I'm just like, oh, Jonas, Jonas. Everybody knows what you mean. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Well, last night, Jared and I got to do something fun. So I've been requested to talk about it. We went to the premiere of their new movie, a very Jonas Christmas movie. And it far exceeded expectations. Jared? Wasn't it just the most pleasant night of all time? I had so much fun last night. Everything about last night was actually.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Perfect. So we walk into the theater and the first person, the first two people we see in the theater are people we know. So it's already like starting off to like a fun vibe being like, oh my gosh, you're here. It was funny because so many people, we didn't know who the heck was going to be there except for Susie. But everybody who we ran into that we knew, they were like, oh my gosh, of course you're here. We all, we were all expecting you to be here. So I'm just glad that I'm like expected at Jonas events. And I'm just like so honored, Darren that like, I get, like, to be invited to those things and, like, to be able to just be part of that community and that fandom is just, it never gets old. And it's so much fun every single time. And last night was one of my favorite Jonas memories, truly, because start to finish, it was just a blast. Great energy, great vibes. Great movie. Guys, it comes out on November 14th on Disney Plus and Hulu. we are not like you'd think that they'd be paying us to me for me to be talking about this movie so
Starting point is 00:04:32 much but I just loved it yeah it was the movie for me the movie it was the movie for me um was surprisingly very funny and it's totally fine that he said surprising because I'm going to be as honest and objective as possible so because you're not objective no but that's quite all right because this movie was clearly made for Jonas Brothers fans. I mean, it was unapologetically for Jonas fans, but I'm glad they did that because it would have been far worse if they tried to do a Hallmark Christmas movie starring the Jonas Brothers as themselves, but not really dive into their relationship or be,
Starting point is 00:05:16 what's the word I'm looking for, a bigger version of themselves? like they lean into the characteristics that people know them as like Joe is the playboy Kevin's the boring one and Nick is like the ain't a one but but my is not supposed to be the boring one he's supposed to be like the one that people like the normal one that everybody makes fun the relatable one but they but in the movie they put they they they lean into the idea that he is quote unquote the boring one because they try to um but what my point in same the spotlights not on they literally say in the movie this is not a spoiler that the brothers say, oh, you're a cardboard cut out. Yeah, because like he doesn't, because he doesn't sing, right? No, because. And the whole thing is that, like, he wants to sing.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Yeah. So my point being, I love celebrities who are not afraid to lean into what people think about them and make fun of them. And they did that, you know, they didn't shy. It, it, they were just very self-aware, and there was a lot of funny moments in there as someone for myself who is aware of the Jonas, brothers, of course, and I know them pretty well. And, you know, with their personalities, of course, they're super talented and they make really good music. But in terms of who they are
Starting point is 00:06:30 as people in their relationship as being brothers, like I know a little bit about it. And so seeing them kind of interact in a way that heightens that and they didn't shy away from it. And they made fun of themselves and they made fun of their relationship. And it was, it was really great to see. Because I think anybody who sees celebrities make fun of themselves, it just makes them more endearing. And after watching the movie, I find the Jonas Brothers even more endearing than I did before. There was this one moment that he turns to me and goes, should we have a third boy? Oh, because they, there's this, I mean, again, not a spoiler. But of course, there's flashback scenes of them young, you know, with their parents at Christmas. And, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:13 it's great to see, because it's cool seeing where they are now, but seeing where they came from and their upbringing. So the movie itself, very funny. Again, surprising them saying that because I did not think I was going to be laughing. And I laughed pretty consistently throughout the entire movie. Now, listen, it's a Disney Plus movie. So like, don't, this is not Schindler's List. You know what I mean? This is not, this is not Shakespeare. But it's not meant to be, which is another thing that I really appreciate about the movie. It's an hour and 20 minutes. It flies by. He loves an hour and 20 minute movie. It's so refreshing because they're all so long these days. Yeah. I mean, if this movie is two and a half hours, what is going on?
Starting point is 00:07:52 But the movie knows exactly what it is. And I appreciate that. And I love the movie because of it. You know how a lot of movies, especially comedies, I feel. I think that a perfect example is Elf. It's a Christmas movie as well. It's like strong, strong, strong, strong. The humor is just like on point, like, pachoo, pachoo, for like 45 to an hour. And then the last half an hour, it's just like, oh, and we get serious, you know? I was waiting for the moment where we got serious here, and we never did. And so it just was straight through fun. You never have that offbeat. And I guess at the end, it gets a little bit more emotional. Of course, there's a resolution. There's, you know, character arcs.
Starting point is 00:08:38 But the movie never overstays its welcome. Very well put. Yeah. It's just like, I never felt like, all right, let's wrap this thing up. It was just always like, it was a pleasant ride. I enjoyed it as someone who's obviously a surface level, Jonas Brothers fan. And so I think that's a compliment to the movie because it's not made for me. It's made for Ashley.
Starting point is 00:09:01 But I enjoyed it too. Exactly. And we had a friend there who's like a movie, he does movie reviews and he does movie interviews. He does it with really big celebrities. And I was like, what are you even doing here? And he was like, I mean, I was invited and it was fun. he's like this is not what I typically would talk about but I had a good time in there.
Starting point is 00:09:21 I also loved, yeah. So to go back to something that I do want to talk about with Jared, you said it was for me. But would you, and you would say that even if you're not a Jonas fan, should you watch it? I mean, did you find that there was too many inside jokes, too much that you needed to know? I mean, you have to be a Jonas Brothers fan to watch the show
Starting point is 00:09:41 or at least like, you know, decently know them. Like I do. Or even if you don't know them as well as I do, do i think you'll still find a lot of enjoyment in this movie but if you've never heard of the jonas brothers you're not going to like this movie they're also not listening to this podcast but no my point being is is is is that the movie is called a very jonas christmas and what i appreciate it is the title is not misleading at all like this is very much a jonas brothers christmas movie but to the film's credit like that's exactly what it is there's no misleading here there is no false
Starting point is 00:10:15 marketing like this is a Jonas Brothers Christmas movie. A few more things. Jared is the expert reviewer, but I just really want to emphasize it is so self-deprecating. It is tongue and cheek. It is very self-aware. They see one of my favorite things about it was that it made it seem like we, the fans, have inside jokes with them because all of their stereotypes they bring to the surface and they lean in on them. Like there was this one joke. that really stuck with me because I think about it all the time. And my friends and I, like my Jonas friends and I have a group chat and like we
Starting point is 00:10:53 one time talked about this. Joe did an ad for Botox, not actual Botox, like one of the other brands of Botulin and Toxin. And this was like a year ago and we were talking about how he didn't add for Botox. And they make fun of him for doing that in the movie. They're like, you say yes to every ad. And I'm like, this is the kind of. of humor that is straight up my alley it's very millennial based humor it's also like there's a lot of
Starting point is 00:11:21 parent humor in it basically like anyone who's in their age group you know mid 30s you are going to I think anybody in their mid 30s could enjoy this as well even if you're not a Jonas fan yeah again you have to be aware of the Jonas brothers you know but um yeah I think that what's great about it as well is they lean into the stereotypes uh of what people think about them they make fun of themselves they make fun of the stereotypes. And I, again, I just, I give the Jonas Brothers credit for doing that because it's very easy, especially for A-list celebrities like themselves, to not want to, you know, showcase more of the stereotypes of what people think about them.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Yeah, exactly. They leaned into it. It was so fun. That's what made it so good. That's what made it so good. They just, they, they had fun. They had a lot of fun. And what was cool as well as seeing their dynamic together, because, you know, it was.
Starting point is 00:12:14 clearly they have great chemistry, their brothers in real life. Their acting was like pretty good because I think it wasn't, it was really like not acting. That's what I mean. They have great chemistry. Like my favorite parts of the movie
Starting point is 00:12:26 are the three of them together. Yeah. You know, they all have separate storylines. And again, those all kind of fit into the overall story. But my favorite moments of the movie and I think the most enjoyment and the funniest parts of the movie are the three of them together,
Starting point is 00:12:42 just kind of making fun. of each other and it's it's fun to see okay friends real talk you are worth the wait we've all been there giving our energy to connections that didn't honor ours and watching friends do the same and honestly we all deserve better that's why bumble is built for intentional dating safety is such a big deal for us all especially when meeting new people and bumble gives you the peace of mind with options like photo and ID verification. That little extra step means you know the person you're talking to is who they say they are, with their real photos, and they are ready to show up authentically.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And once you feel safe, you can actually focus on what matters, finding someone who gets you. With shared interests, it's easy to see right away who vibes with your passions, whether that's true crime podcasts, yoga mornings, or weekend hikes. So take a pause, affirm your worth, and protect your peace. Bumble helps you create safe, meaningful connections, the kind that truly respect your boundaries, your energy, and your time. Thinking about dating again, take this as your sign.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Start your love story on Bumble. And she said, Johnny, the kids didn't come home last night. Along the central Texas plains, teens are dying, suicides that don't make sense, strange accidents, and brutal murders. In what seems to be, a plot ripped strange. straight out of Breaking Bad. Drugs, alcohol, trafficking of people. There are people out there that absolutely know what happened.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Listen to Paper Ghosts, the Texas Teen Murders, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What do you get when you mix 1950s Hollywood, a Cuban musician with a dream, and one of the most iconic sitcoms of all time? You get Desi Arnest, a trailblazer, a businessman, a husband, and maybe most importantly, the first Latino to break prime time wide open. I'm Wilmer Valderrama, and yes, I grew up watching him, probably just like you and millions of others. But for me, I saw myself in his story.
Starting point is 00:14:54 From plening canary cages to this night here in New York, it's a long ways. On the podcast starring Desi Arnaz and Wilmer Valderama, I'll take you in a journey to Desi's life. The moments it has overlap with mine, how he redefined American television, and what that meant for all of us watching from the sidelines, waiting for a face like hours on screen. This is the story of how one-man's spotlight lit the path for so many others and how we carry his legacy today. Listen to starring Desi Arnaz
Starting point is 00:15:23 and Wilmer Valderrama as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Robert Smith. This is Jacob Goldstein, and we used to host a show called Planet Money. And now we're back
Starting point is 00:15:36 making this new podcast called Business History about the best ideas and people and businesses in history. And some of the worst people, horrible ideas, and destructive companies in the history of business. Having a genius idea without a need for it is nothing. It's like not having it at all.
Starting point is 00:15:56 It's a very simple, elegant lesson. Make something people want. First episode, How Southwest Airlines Use Cheap Seats and Free Whiskey to fight its way into the airline business. The Most Texas Story ever. There's a lot of mavericks in that story. We're going to have mavericks on this show.
Starting point is 00:16:11 show. We'd have plenty of robber barons. So many robber barons. And you know what? They're not all bad. And we'll talk about some of the classic great moments of famous business geniuses, along with some of the darker moments that often get overlooked. Like Thomas Edison and the electric chair. Listen to business history on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What up y'all? It's your boy, Kevin on stage. I want to tell you about my new podcast called Not My Best Month. Talk to artists, athletes, entertainers, creators, friends, people I admire who had massive success
Starting point is 00:16:48 about their massive failures. What did they mess up on? What is their heartbreak? And what did they learn from it? I got judged horribly. The judges were like, you're trash. I don't know how you got on the show. Boo, somebody had tomatoes.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I'm kidding. But if they had tomatoes, they would have thrown the tomatoes. Let's be honest. We've all had those moments we'd rather forget. We bumped our head. We made a mistake. The deal fell through. We're embarrassed.
Starting point is 00:17:13 We failed. But this podcast is about that and how we made it through. So when they sat me down, they were kind of like, we got into the small talk. And they were just like, so what do you got? What? What ideas? And I was like, oh, no. What?
Starting point is 00:17:27 Check out Not My Best Moment with me, Kevin on stage, on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcast. Two more points that I want to make about the. movie itself. I'm so sorry for boring you guys to tears. But I went into it thinking it was going to be very like cheesy, original like Disney Channel movie, like Camp Rock. Like I thought it was just going to be like Camp Rock again. And of course Camp Rock was really fun when I was a teenager, but I don't at 37 want to see Camp Rock. I mean like I will watch it with Dawson and it'll be fun and nostalgic. But like I want this. I was so surprised that this was just a fun movie for my age and they're so smart about that and then my second point was that they they're
Starting point is 00:18:19 producers on it and I feel like you can really tell it's almost as if they like took the writers and they were like hey guys why don't you like follow us around to shadow us for a month to like see what our general chemistry is as brothers and like right around what you see yeah the movie is better than it should be and again that's a credit to everybody involved you know because when you see a very Jonas Christmas, you're like, this is going to be dumb. And it wasn't. It was not dumb at all. I didn't think it was dumb. Of course, you know, it's, you know, there. I was like, is this going to be a movie that I watch once? I'm like, okay, I'm done. No, I'm like, I'm excited to watch it all holiday season. Yeah. Again, if you're a Jonas Brothers fan, you will absolutely
Starting point is 00:18:59 adore this movie. There is new Christmas music in it by the Jonas Brothers. They're better in the movie even than you, if you hear the tracks. They're, they're good songs, catchy. They're catchy songs. They're Christmas songs. And also, again, they do a great job of leaning into the absurdity of them just starting to sing original Christmas music in this movie.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Like, they break the fourth wall a couple times and let the audience in on the joke while they're singing. And it's great. They just never take themselves too seriously. And I think, again, credit to them. Because not everybody does that. Thanks, baby. Like, I didn't like their roast.
Starting point is 00:19:37 They did their roast on Netflix. Remember years ago? It's like COVID era. I didn't see it. You and I, you did see it. You were like watching in the background and we were like, oh my gosh. I think I don't even finish it. I just, Jared and I just don't like roast in general.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I didn't like theirs. I did, we did not even watch Tom Brady's. I saw clips of it. But yeah, it just goes like, it's just some, some are funny. Some are not. Again, I think a roast overstays it's welcome a lot of times. If a roast was like 45 minutes and they had like with, not, even maybe but like you know people very important to that person's life making fun of them that's
Starting point is 00:20:13 very funny stuff i'm in but it's just like how long do these roast have to be and with this movie you know it's like an hour 20 minutes of a decent story and a lot of funny parts and good chemistry between the brothers that you're invested in and and then it's over and you're like you know what that was fun yeah all right well we we have a couple questions from our producer um and we will wrap this up i'm so sorry i didn't realize i was going to drag out this Jonas episode so long but huh it is a Jonas episode so she's saying did we get to talk to them at the after party we talked to Kevin and Danielle and they were just so sweet as always yeah they're so wonderful yeah it was really nice and um then my second the second question here is how would you rank this in your top
Starting point is 00:20:56 five Christmas movies it's something I did tell Kevin I go on the carpet we were asked it was kind of a weird question to be asked because I don't think the reporter realized that I I hadn't seen the movie yet. She was like, what would you pick? This or like your favorite Christmas movie? They said every other Christmas movie. So you'd have to either take away every other Christmas movie and keep a very Jonas Christmas
Starting point is 00:21:21 or get rid of a very Jonas Christmas and then you get to keep every other Christmas movie. And I was like, well, I'm going, my favorite Christmas movie is home alone and I haven't seen this. So like I'm obviously going to keep home alone. And of course, still going to keep home alone in the holiday because they're better movies.
Starting point is 00:21:42 They're just like absolutely timeless classics. But I will tell you, of the past 20 years, because the holiday came out almost 20 years ago, 19 years ago, this is my favorite and a very, since then. I just loved it so much. Yeah, there's a lot to love in the movie. Thank you. I say thank you. I am proud.
Starting point is 00:22:04 I am proud of my Jonas boys. and um yeah i think i think i think a lot of people are going to enjoy this movie i'm not saying it's going to get critically acclaimed i think people will say they're surprised though in reviews but i i i would say that i'm sure a lot of people reviewing this movie um you know movie critics uh i think a majority of them will say you know it was you know it was fun i think a lot of them are obviously gonna it yeah i mean what are they are they really going to take this seriously reviewing a Jonas movie? They might.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I mean, if you take it seriously, yeah, of course. They shouldn't. Even if they're taking it seriously, they should be like, oh, it's cool, much better than anticipated. And it gives some insight into the brother's relationship to things that you may not have known prior. Like, we know, because Ashley makes me aware of it. But, like, things with Kevin and how, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:55 his storyline goes throughout the movie of, like, things that he wants to present to his brothers, or, like, things with Nick about, like how Joe and Kevin's relationship is different than, you know, Nick and Joe and Kevin's relationship. So, like, there is some things in the movie that are really cool to see, like things that I was aware of. Again, that's why I was like, wow, I'm happy they leaned into it because not everybody would do
Starting point is 00:23:18 that. But if you're not aware of these things, you know, it's pretty interesting to be like, I didn't know that the brothers had this type of relationship. What about the cameos? Because there were a lot of them. There's a cameo, right? We won't spoil it, but there's a cameo. A big actor.
Starting point is 00:23:32 big actor in the very first scene in the movie and um we were all taken aback and kind of starts you on the ride yeah we saw his name in the opening credits i didn't and then i was like he's i was like oh he makes a cameo in this movie and then it's just right right off the bat opening scene he's in it and you're like oh okay and then you know he's he's great in it it's a super funny cameo and then there's a cameo later in the movie by a not as well-known actor but someone you guys will know the pilot the pilot because i think they're keeping that one secret to Yeah, it's a funny cameo. She wasn't at the premiere.
Starting point is 00:24:05 You'll know who he is, and you're like, oh, I didn't know he was in this. And then the aunt, the epic aunt from Big Fat Greek Wedding, she is an Uber driver. That's so funny. But she's in the movie. Not that that's a spoiler by any stretch, but it's nice being like, oh, I didn't know she was in this movie. Oh, I didn't know that person was in this movie. So, yeah, there's some really good stuff in this movie for everybody to enjoy. Another treat from last night was the fact that we got to go to the book.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Plaza Hotel when it's all dressed up like Home Alone, too. Because that's where he stays in Home Alone, too. Beautiful, yes. The Plaza Hotel. It was so pretty. And Disney just went all out. It was a grand ballroom. I mean, like, this was such a production.
Starting point is 00:24:51 The food was amazing. It was the best wedding I've ever been to, was Hidars. Yeah, where they had it in the Plaza Hotel, this big ballroom, it was gorgeous, stunning. And the food was. really good and the drinks were great. Each one was themed. It was like a, I think each Jonas brother had his own drink. Probably. I saw them drinking mostly the espresso martinis at the pictures of it. Yeah. And there were three drinks. So I think one for Kevin, one for Nick and one for Joe. So it was cool. You know, everything was themed and it was Christmas and the movie was fun and funny and everybody
Starting point is 00:25:24 was in a good mood. And, you know, the guest list. I mean, like, it was just so fun. Everybody was just great energy. Well, I think, again, there is a community. you always say. Yeah, I always say if everybody was a Jonas Brothers fan, there would be peace on earth. Because, you know, if you go to a Jonas Brothers concert or you go to an event like this, uh, there is just so much happiness and enthusiasm, which I love. Of course, I love being a part of it. Oh, thanks, babe. And I just love having you there for it. It's so nice that I can do this still married with kids. Of course. I would never take your dreams away from you. Thank you. And finally, Jared is, um, die hard a Christmas movie. I'm in the minority on this one. I, no.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I don't think it's, I mean, no. That's like, I think Catch Me If You Can is like the exact same thing. Because Catch Me If You Can has an ongoing theme of Christmas, but like you wouldn't consider it a Christmas movie. I defined a Christmas movie by I only want to watch it during the holiday season. Yeah. I could watch Die Hard in July. Yeah. And enjoy it just as much as I would in December.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Just as much because I think I would prefer Catch Me If You Can in the winter, but. Sure. But you would never, would you watch Homealiener. alone in May? No, I wouldn't allow myself to do that. Would you watch Catch Me If You Can in May? Yeah, I could do that. That's the difference for me, for my definition, of a Christmas movie.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I also think that Gremlins is a Christmas movie, too. Hence why I had Dawson watch it today. Yeah, I haven't seen it in so long. I wouldn't really watch it any other time. It is very Christmas-based, the entire setting. Definitely very Christmas-based. Is it Halloween? It's kind of like the Nightmare Before Christmas.
Starting point is 00:26:58 It can go from Halloween to Christmas. Yeah. all right and there's it that's it that's it uh thanks guys for listening to that and thank you for letting us uh thank you for letting me ramble about my my my my passion so I've you know what Jared has passion so similar yeah that yeah that we just respect these things about us yeah all right we love you guys thank you so much until next time I've been Ashley oh I've been Jared I'm new to this follow the Ben and Ashley I almost famous podcast on iHeart radio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
Starting point is 00:27:33 On an all new episode of IHard Radio's Las Culturistas, Jennifer Lawrence is dishing. Jennifer Lawrence. Let's go. From her hilariously awkward run-ins with A-Lister's. I don't know what I was expecting, but he was just like, nice to meet you. To her unfiltered take on beauty treatments.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I'm so upset I think the Botox before that. And a jaw-dropping reveal you won't see coming. I don't know if I can announce this, but I'm just going to. Open your free IHeard Radio app. Search Loss. and listen to the full podcast now. What up, y'all? It's your boy, Kevin on stage.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I want to tell you about my new podcast called Not My Best Moment, where I talk to artists, athletes, entertainers, creators, friends, people I admire who have had massive success about their massive failures.
